The Stanford Prison Experiment And The Milgram Experiment
Introduction
Ethical guidelines are the frameworks and standards that govern psychologists in conducting a morally
justified research to respect the rights of the participants. Since the researchers are responsible for the
welfare of the participants, it is vital for them to act in accordance with a specific strict code of ethics
and moral principles. One of the common ethical framework used in many psychological studies is
IVCARD where I stands for Informed Consent, V equals Voluntary Participation, C is Confidentiality,
A being Accurate Reporting, R is Right To Withdraw and D as Do No Harm. Although there are few
disadvantages of these strict ethical guidelines, the advantages outweigh them. This is evident from
two of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when they conducted their experiments they did not breach any ethical guidelines since they
did not exist (Matta, 2014). Hence, to protect the welfare, rights, dignity, and mental health of the
participants, strict ethical guidelines were introduced in psychological experiments which have
positively influenced the field of psychology. Also, due to ethical frameworks, people are viewed as
participants of a study instead of subjects in an experiment. They also make psychological
experiments more reputable, leading to an increase in the willingness of participation by people as
their safety is ensured. The increased willingness of participation is beneficial in order to discover
more about human behaviour, the effectiveness of treatment, mechanisms of a psychiatric disorder etc.
Disadvantages of Ethical Guidelines
Although ethical guidelines were designed to help psychologists to conduct morally justified studies
and avoid ethical dilemmas, these enforceable guidelines restrict the scope of research. Despite the
fact that Zimbardo s and Milgram s experiments were highly unethical, they provided valuable data
about situational attribution. Similar experiments conducted in past, which are

Metropolitan Museum Of Art
For this assignment, I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This museum has
many magnificent pieces of art from all over the world. It also offers many programs for students of
all ages and for all different types of educational experiences. There are many ideas and ways that a
trip to this museum can be incorporated in a global history classroom. The Metropolitan Museum of
Art offers many programs for students from Kindergarten to High School. The museum offers courses
for students and adults that study and examine art in different time periods. They are taught by
specialists and each sessions examines a specific geographic area. They also offer workshops for teens

The Metropolitan Museum of Art displays a beautiful display of Ancient Egyptian art. I can use
differentiated instruction while allowing my students to analyze art from different time periods. As a
teacher I can try to incorporate a field trip to this museum as it will be beneficial for all types of
learners. A field trip to this museum would be great for middle school and high school students.
Before the trip, I can provide my students with information about the time period in which we are
studying. This may include a power point and reading from our class textbook. I can also show a
video which gives insight to the time period and art. I can also provide them with a list of key terms to
understand that will help them during our museum trip. I would also provide a list of questions that
can serve as a guide during our visit to the museum. Visiting the museum will be beneficial to
auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners. For auditory learners there are guided tours where you can
listen to information about the artwork as well as read the information on the piece of artwork. For
visual learners viewing and analyzing the art can help them learn about the time period. It will also
benefit kinesthetic learners who get a hands on approach to learning more about a time period. I would
ask all students to take notes on the trip and write down the names of the art they were most impressed

Oskar Schindler Outline
Oskar Schindler
Mackenzie Britain
English
World War Ⅱwas one of the most gruesome wars ever to be fought. Millions of lives were lost. People
lost families, homes, and just pretty much everything. Oskar Schindler saved many lives during World
War Ⅱ. He brought hope for the Jews.
April 8, 1908, Schindler was born in Zwittau, Austria Hungary. He was a catholic man who grew up in
a very wealthy family. Over the years he became a salesman and married Emilie Schindler. He was the
type of man that loved to make money, and he did by joining the SS on his way to Poland. He seemed
like any other normal man, making his wealth.
December 1939, Oskar changed his mind, he had a plan to help the Jews while he was in the Nazi
party. He said, If you saw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He employed Jewish workers to make sure that they were safe from the other camps. If he saw skill in
them, that s how he knew they were worthy. Schindler would spend every dime to make sure that his
worker got more than what the Jews at other camps received.
The Holocaust escalated, beating and killing Jews every day. Schindler invested money into his own
camp where Jews were sent and he would pay the nazi party off. He made sure that they were fed, not
beaten and had something to call home. Schindler would arrange a list of 900 Jews to work for him.
He referred to them as his children. He created this camp so he could save many. He thought that it
was wrong of one man to kill another. Oscar had a soft heart for the Jews. Others did not agree with
this such as his fellow generals. Many Jews thought he was the true hero. He gave them hope and
somewhere to call home.
August, 1939, Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin signed the German Soviet Nonaggression Pact which
cause the allies to worry. Hitler planned to invade Poland and he got his wish on September 1, 1939
from the west. Only two days later, France and Great Britain declared war on Germany. On the 17, the

What Are The Two Important Quotes From Huckleberry Finn
Peter would dive through the air, and catch Michael just before he could strike the sea, and it was
lovely the way he did it; but he always waited till the last moment, and you felt it was his cleverness
that interested him and not the saving of human life. (pg.46).
Context:
Wendy narrated this event when her brothers and Peter were flying over a ocean. Wendy said the
quote after Peter flew down to get Michael who has fallen asleep while flying and almost hit the water.

Commentary:
This quote really sums up humans flaws and sins. No matter what time period, humans have always
been selfish and yet wanting. Even though the statement expressed those qualities as what children do,
but all humans of all ages can be held accountable for being like what was said in the quote. Everyday
we can see people being self centered, egocentric, and yet they still want people to love them and care
for them. In Peter Pan you can see these traits many times through out the story.

Identifying an Unknown Solid Using Melting Point and Mixed Melting Point Data
Shultz, Joshua T.

Results
The experimenters inserted a capillary tube containing approximately 2 to 3 mm of benzoic acid into a
manual Mel Temp melting point apparatus. With the Mel Temp dial set between 3 and 4, the
temperature increased at a steady rate of approximately 2° C per minute from a plateau set at 90° C.
The first appearance of liquid occurred at 119° C, and the benzoic acid completely melted by 122° C
giving a melting point range of 119° C to 122° C for benzoic acid. Repeating the procedure for 2
naphthol returned a melting point range of 118° C to 123° C. Next, a 1:1 mixture of benzoic acid and

Discussion
A pure organic compound melts or freezes fairly sharply over a specific temperature range called its
melting point. This physical constant can help identify a substance. Generally, any impurity added to a
pure substance will lower its observed melting point and increase the range over which melting
occurs. Therefore, when two pure organic substances possess a similar melting point, a mixture
containing both substances will often melt at a lower temperature and over a broader range.
Conversely, if a mixture of a known and unknown substance actually contains a single substance, the
melting point of the mixture will not deviate from the melting point of the known.
Davis (1913) demonstrated that pairs of substances with similar melting points melted at lower
temperatures and over broader melting ranges when mixed. Since the separation and purification of a
compound from food or excretions often leaves toxicologists with very little material to examine,
Davis (1913) recommended the use of melting point and mixed melting point data for

Essay on The Unique Art Produced During the Renaissance
The renaissance or rebirth was a cultural awakening which spanned from the fourteenth to sixteenth
century. A growing interest in humanist traits and classical ideas heavily influenced the art during the
renaissance. A growing community of artists provided much needed competition for their profession.
The renaissance introduced many different and modern ideas but also remained obedient to classical
belief. The unique art of the renaissance spread throughout Europe. Northern European art differed
tremendously from Italian art. Art during the early renaissance time period was mostly commissioned
by wealthy and powerful families. Ruling families were accepted by the average public. These
families commissioned various and lavish artworks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This unique blending of fresh ideas and rejuvenating classical ideas defined Masaccio s artwork and
more importantly the art of the early renaissance. The high renaissance time period introduced the
world to arguably its best artists. Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Titian ruled the
grand community of artists at the time. Da Vinci and Michelangelo further succeeded because of their
versatility. The high renaissance was marked by rival city states and a continued trend of lavish
spenders. Religious and political leaders spent great quantity of money to have their chapels, or any
setting appear better than their rivals. Michelangelo s artwork dominates over any other in the Sistine
chapel. The Sistine chapel is the ideal place of where new popes are elected. Michelangelo brought
along his love for sculpting in his paintings. There are about three hundred figures on the Sistine
Chapel s ceiling, and no two appear the same. Michelangelo s artwork has an enormous variety of
expression. Arguably Michelangelo s best painting; The Creation of Adam perfectly represents his
ideas. God is shown flying through the sky; while Adam is bound to the earth. Beneath the Lord s left
arm appears to be Eve, waiting to be born. The viewer s eye follows the entire arm motion perfectly,
which ends up pointing at Christ s child face. Michelangelo s figures differ greatly from Leonardo Da
Vinci s formal poses and gestures. Michelangelo s figures include

Over the last 30 plus years, Human Resources Department has evolved from the people who
conducted all administration duties like the keeper of the records in the filing cabinets to the backbone
of an organization. Human resources management can be defined as that part of management
concerned with: All the decisions, strategies, factors, principles, operations, practices, functions,
activities and methods related to the management of people as employees in any type of organization
(Mahapatro, 2010). The changes to Human Resources management has been beneficial to everyone
within an organization. As technology advances so do Human Resources as it takes on different roles
and advancements like Human Resources Information Systems. Human Resources Information
System (HRIS) is a system used to acquire, store, manipulate, analyze, retrieve, and distribute
information related to the company s human resources department. From the Human Resource
manager s viewpoint, an HRIS can be used to support decision making, to avoid lawsuits, to help
evaluate programs or company policies, and to assist in daily operating procedures in the organization.

The Equal Pay Act Essay
One problem that Americans are facing is the inequality between men and women, whether it is in
everyday life or in a professional atmosphere. One step that has been taken toward equality was
introduced with the Equal Pay Act of 1963, signed by President John F. Kennedy. This law was the
first affecting the amount of job opportunities available for women and allowing them to work in
traditionally male dominated fields. On the outside, this would sound like a solution where nothing
could possibly go wrong, but it is not.
There are nearly as many women as there are men working, yet, as it was discovered in 2011, on
average, a woman will only earn seventy seven cents for every dollar that a man earns. Women owned

Banks, from the 1964 Disney Movie Mary Poppins, who was neglectful toward her children on her
journey for her rights.
Feminism is a living word. There can never truly be a one set definition for the word as the term has
often shifted meanings to correspond to the time period. Feminists fight for the rights that men have
under the United States Constitution and to have the right to not be discriminated against. Any action
against any woman, intentional or not, goes against the principles that many women and men stand
for.
The quest for equal rights is usually put into two different waves: the first wave being considered
women s suffrage and the second being the equal right movement. One big uprising in feminism
happened alongside the abolitionist movement. Many women started to realize that, as they were
fighting to get African Americans out of their version of perdition at the hands of their slave owners,
that they themselves were slaves to the will of the men in society. Since many women petitioned for
antislavery, the Congress in session at the time put forth the gag rule, which placed many of these
petitions off to the side for consideration.
The feminist movement that is more recognized was started by Betty Friedan. She was the author of
The Feminine Mystique, a book that called for many women to enrich themselves from the unnamed
problem that left

The Effects Of Energy Subsidies On The Consumer, The...
Abstract Subsidies are one of the most powerful policy tools in the hands of the government. They
have been used for decades to achieve a range of economic, social and environmental objectives.
Indeed, one of the most important and challenging responsibilities of a government is allocating
financial resources to achieve public good. This paper analyses the effects of energy subsidies on the
consumer, the economy and the energy industry. Energy subsidies are any government actions that
support the cost of energy production in terms of reduction in prices paid by consumers and increase
in revenues to energy producers (World Bank, 2010). These investments aim to improve energy access
by making prices more affordable, shielding domestic consumers from international price volatility
and supporting energy intensive industries (The International Institute for sustainable development,
2012). In practice, energy subsidies come in different forms. (The IEA, 2002) and (UNEP, 2008)
identify the following typical mechanisms by which governments support the production and
consumption of energy: Direct financial transfers: grants to consumers, grants to producers, low
interest or preferential loans and government loan guarantees; Preferential tax treatment: tax credits,
tax rebates, exemptions on royalties, duties or tariffs, reduced tax rates, deferred tax liabilities and
accelerated depreciation on energy supply equipment; Trade restrictions: tariffs, tariff rate import
quotas

Discrimination and Misrepresentation of Minority Races in Film
Racists often believe that alternative races are inferior. Stuart Hall, an expert in the field of cultural
studies who is also interested in media studies, believes that it is difficult to completely eliminate race
as a floating signifier because it is impossible to remove the obvious physical differences of distinct
races. These distinctions are made increasingly aware by filmmakers to their audiences in such films
as West Side Story, Birth of a Nation, Gringo in Mananaland, and the Four Horsemen of the
Apocalypse. Even when films were silent movies, The technology of film entertainment was so

Greaser was used to refer to Mexicans who supposedly had used grease to comb their hair, but soon it
spread to incorporate other Hispanic groups as well. Racial epithets were commonly used and
construed into the plots of films, and minority racial groups tended to be increase the profit in film
sales (Keller 13). These epithets were reinforced to define a characteristic style of stereotyping by
playing on the attitudes that predominated among Anglo filmmakers and their white audiences (Keller
14).
Two particular silent films both exemplify how stereotypes have played on racist Anglo American
attitudes: the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Birth of a Nation. The Four Horsemen of the
Apocalypse, shows how minority groups are kept as subjects to Anglos. For example, several camera
shots showed how this was thought to be true. A monkey, to which African Americans have been
commonly referred then and even now, is shown climbing a stick, and a white bird is perched at the
peak of the stick, pecking at the monkey to keep him from climbing up the stick. This scene has
several intentions. For one, it depicts how Anglo Americans do not and will not accept the coming up
of racial inferiors , or rather they will do everything in their power to keep blacks down or keep them
from climbing the social ladder to equality. As Stuart Hall had mentioned, there will always exist

All Out War
Within war torn Europe, prior to World War II, various sentiments from World War I were still being
held not only by the governments of Europe but the citizens within them. These sentiments caused
Germany, led by Adolf Hitler, to bully the rest of Europe into submission so that he could build his
military up and unleash war like never before. Hitler used foreign policy to complete his plans to
destroy the Versailles treaty, rule and colonize the rest of Europe, and exterminate all racial inferiors;
such as Jews. Peace and trust between countries also began to wither from discrete pacts being signed
in fear of the Germans. The annexation of Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia also was a significant
event prior to an all out war. War was finally unleashed by Hitler when the Polish, British, and French
denied him access to Danzig and railways throughout Poland. All these events combined would
explain how World War II erupted in Europe. For example, this all out war in Europe was first derived

Czechoslovakia played a huge role in Hitler s plans for domination. By forcing the annexation of

führer would have attacked Czechoslovakia. But the Czech border defenses, built on the model of the
French Maginot Line, were formidable (Perry, 797) From this quote the reader can see the mistake the
Czechs made when annexing Sudetenland. Similarly, Hitler tried to bully the Polish into giving up
their prized port of Danzig and exclusive railway access to East Prussia. However, Britain, France,
and the Soviet Union anticipated this from Germany and were in the works of creating a pact to

Social Class Reflection Paper
Before this class I always viewed sport as a sanctuary for everyone regardless of their race, social
class, and gender as something they can do together. That once everyone was on the field or at the
game, we were all the same. I believed that it was an activity that did not have a political influence
and it was purely for entertainment. While I still believe some of that is true, this class has challenged
my view point by forcing me to view sports through a different lens. As students, we tend to look at
everyday activities through our personal experiences and assume that everyone else around us is
experiencing them the same way. We tend to overlook the truth because we are uncomfortable
admitting that things such as discrimination, and sexism still happen in today s world.
More specifically, I was challenged to look at my life experiences in three different categories. These
categories include the effect of neoliberalism on today s society, my social class, and my race.
Through these three categories, I was able to pull out the differences between my own life and the
lives of others. By viewing the same experience through another person s eyes, I noticed the extreme
differences that they are going through because of the influence from society.
In the following paper, I will mention how the effect of neoliberalism has influenced the way myself
and others view and experience a sporting experience, how my social class standing has structured
what sports I had access to and

Women In Sociological Research
Society has its way of creating and enforcing its own norms. Once society creates an impact, it can be
difficult to dispute. Women are seen and made into shopaholics by the media, and they use a lot of
their resources to broadcast their messages to women. However in my research, I found a glimpse of
something different. In Kohl s online website, it shows that they actually have more inventory for men
than they do for women. This may be a slim margin of 1000 items but it disputes the popular options
on clothing being catered towards women. The messages of shopping may be broadcasted for women
but they are not only for women. In society, each gender has roles they are made to fit into, which is a
functionalist perspective. These clothes have

the things that were make believe. King Arthur was portrayed in many different aspects especially
through literature and history. King Arthur was portrayed throughout history and was well known. He
was a Celtic leader, and he was a warrior of Roman affiliation who led British military against the
Saxon (BBC News). Scholars believe Ambrosius Aurelianus, who was a war hero, he was the real
Arthur. Michael Wood believes King Arthur was a heroic figure from the Celtic tribe. Others thought
Lucius Artorius Castus who was a Roman commander may have been Arthur (King Arthur and
Camelot). The Empire withdrew and the last remaining militia had been sent to the Continent as a fail
to go to war with Rome. The people of Britain were now left open to attack from all sides, and their
way of life crumbled. The earliest legends of Arthur say that he was a military commander who helped
to organize the British, and led successful battles against the invaders (King Arthur: An Introduction).

The Evolution Of Tattoos Essay
The Evolution of Tattoos They re what you see on your friends, family and people walking on the
streets. This growing debate on tattoos brings me to the point of the evolution of tattoos. Tattoos were
once believed to be a risky trend and are now becoming more of the norm. As we know it tattoos are
not as unusual as they once were. There are many different reasons behind why people get tattoos, for
example personal losses, symbolism, or just the concept of it being art. Most believe tattooing is just
another medium of art and it should be respected along with the tattoo artist who give them. A lot of
people differ in opinion behind what, where, and how people should get their tattoos. A strong topic to

So tattoos were used in a symbolic manner. As seen on television, movies about old Egyptian times
embrace their characters with tattoos all over their bodies. But it seems as if in reality old Egyptians
used tattoos as rituals for the gods to help them get something they wanted. The word tattoo comes
from the Polynesian word ta which means to strike something and the Tahitian word tatau which
means to mark something (DBoom). Both ways of saying it make sence and still do explain how
modern day tattoos are done. In 1991 a mummie called Otzi the Ice Man was found in a mountain
range between Italy and Austria, this mummie had to be 5000 years old. The mummie consisted of 57
tattoos around the knees, kidneys, and the ankles. All the tattoos were either vertical or parallel lines
and most likely had to do with therapeutic reasons. The supposed reasoning behind the tattoos were
some sort of treatment for arthritis. Compared to now and the past, the past usage for tattoos usually
had to do with some symbolic reasoning. The Scythians were an ancient people whose graves were
found in the Altai mountains of Southern Siberia. The graves were made of solid ice so the corpses
were preserved very well (MSU). These corpses had tattoos on them of totems and game animals.
These tattoos were symbolic because the game animals let us know that the Scythians liked to hunt.

Bathroom Accessories For Kids
Bathroom Accessories for Kids
Why do many moms and dads feel that they are punishing their children by sending them into the
bathroom and why do kids resist being sent to bathrooms as much as eating their spinach? Many
parents who have successfully reversed this behavior in their children believe they know the answer

bathroom accessories for kidsChildren love to play, yet even the most luxurious of bathrooms,
decorated in adult tastes, offer little to a child s imagination and desire for fun. They aren t attracted to
mom and dad s tasteful sense of style. The cold, vacant and non stimulating room feels more like a

have dedicated bath toys that you rotate in and out, so that each bath time is a little more exciting, with

mesh bags with suction cups that adhere to the wall. When dry, put one bag away and pull out another
toy bag to keep things exciting and sanitary.

Could A Machine Be Conscious
1 Could a machine be conscious? This question is often dismissed as simple by those that would say
yes in response. The usual claim made by the pro camp is that man is a biological machine and is
conscious, ergo, a machine is conscious. If we, humans, are truly biological machines and we are at
the same time conscious then I would agree that yes, categorically, a machine could be conscious. But
is it really that simple? I contend that it is a more difficult problem but not that it is a complicated one,
merely one of ambiguity which, once resolved, leads the contemplator to the same conclusion as I do
that in fact, no, a machine could not be conscious. I propose that those who argue the yes case that a
machine can be conscious are, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are all actions definable in their own right, which, I contend need not be sub categories of, or
allocated to the definition of consciousness and, unlike the hard problem of consciousness which we
will come to shortly, they can be explained by science in a physical context and therefore be
impersonated by machinery. They have physical qualities which are an important distinction in the 3
concept of Artificial Intelligence which claims the ability of machines to achieve consciousness,
arising in theory out of intelligence. The most prominent example of the concept of a machine being
intelligent in the manner of this so called consciousness is the Turing test (Turing, 1950) which, rather
tellingly, was originally called the Imitation Game . The test was designed to see if a machine could
fool a human into thinking it was itself another human, and although somewhat successful with Eliza
(Weizenbaum 1976), the premise was quickly, and I opine correctly, attacked by Searle (1980:417 57)
in his Chinese Room thought experiment, proving that a machine can simulate communication
without understanding and is therefore not thinking in the way humans, or perhaps other living things
do. Humans exhibit the ability to pass tests without understanding the material and, I contend, this is
what a machine simulates, the function of memory, not intelligence. Even if it could fool a

Sex Trafficking And Child Prostitution Summary
In regards to their essay on sex trafficking and child prostitution, Kristof and WuDunn note their
successful and failed efforts to help these women. Each time they interviewed a woman, they bought
her from the brothel owner and aimed to set her up for economic success outside of forced
prostitution. However, one girl quickly and willingly returned to the brothel due to her drug
dependence (where she obtained the addiction from being forced to take drugs in order oblige her
customers). Kristof and WuDunn indicated, that in order to effectively help women, advocates need to
focus on prevention, through education, empowerment to give women a voice, and putting brothels
out of business. Prajwala s model is effective for those already in the

Road To El Dorado Analysis
Road to El Dorado
The movie I watched was the Road to El Dorado. The directors of this movie are Eric Bibo Bergeron,
Don Paul, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Will Finn, and David Silverman. The top three actors of this film are
Kevin Kline as Tulio, Kenneth Branagh as Miguel, and Rosie Perez who plays the voice of Chel. Road
to El Dorado was produced in 2000 by Dreamworks Animation. It includes subtitles and is in color.
The movie is also now available to watch on Netflix which is where I watched it. Two con artist Tulio
and Miguel leave Spain as stowaways on Cortes s ship in 1519 that is headed to Mexico with a special
map. The map is supposed to lead to a city of gold, but when they reach the city things aren t what
they expect. While the two convince the people that they are gods they meet a girl name Chel who
knows their true identity and helps with with their con for a share of their gold. However, Chel
becomes more than an accomplice to Tulio, and Miguel is, you know, Miguel. Then things start to get
messy when Tzekel Kan tries to expose who the are to the people of El Dorado. As the men try to stop
him by impressing the crowd they also ask if the people can build them a boat home. Things work out

Whistleblowing Case
The Whistleblowing Case Studies There are various cases about whistleblowing, one of them is the
case of Motorola CFO, Paul Liska.1 He has been fired after giving a presentation. In the presentation,
Liska pointed out to Motorola directors that the cell phone unit, Mobile Devices, missed its sales
projection for the preceding three months. Liska intended to attack Sanjay Jha, the head of Motorola s
cell phone division, by doing the presentation at the board meeting. The whistleblowing occurred
because Liska and Jha did not get along well, and Liska tried to save the situation with an attack on
Jha. Liska objected to Jha s hiring, his compensation package and the co CEO agreement. Liska s

In my opinion, this is not just a personality clash and more of different views towards the development
of the company in the future. He could just keep quiet but his professionalism made him to do the
other way round. Circumstances of When Whistleblowing Is Ethically Justifiable When we talk about
whistleblowing and loyalty to a firm, we need to ask a number of questions: Do engineers have a duty
of loyalty to their organizations? If so, engineers have a duty to act to the best interest of the firm, then
is whistleblowing ever ethically justifiable? Always, people treat loyalty as a virtue. We were taught
from young to be loyal to our friends, family and our country. However, in the case of loyalty to a
firm, it could be a little different. Loyalty to a corporation is more on dedication and devotion to the
development of the firm. Based on that, we can say that if the whistle blowing is for the good cause to
the company s future, we may not say it is ethically wrong or the person is not loyal. For example, if
your boss ask you to ignore some flaws or wrongdoings in a company project, you know the severe
consequences for not solving those problems, then it is your duty to whistle blowing, because you are
responsible to the company s future and the society, you are loyal to the objective of the company not
to a wrongdoing person. Another thing about ethically justifiable whistle blowing is safety. We need to
admit that safety is an incontrovertible

The Cold War And The Soviet Union
The Cold War was a state of political hostility between the U.S and the Soviet bloc, the most powerful
nations in the world. The two countries fought together as allies in World War II but toward the end of
the War the two nations competing ideologies and visions of the post War prevented them from
working together. The Cold War was by far the biggest threat to human existence the world has ever
seen, although their was never any declaration of War between the two competing nations, the Soviet
Union and the United States both had weapons of mass destruction, that was capable of destroying
human life as we know today. From the end of World War II up until the collapse of the Soviet Union
the two nations competed in expanding their spheres of influence throughout the world. By 1960
Communism had maintained a high degree of focus, coordination, discipline, and strategic coherence
in spreading its ideologies throughout the world, the West seemed to be quite the opposite. In
discussing the Cold War throughout this period, you will catch a glimpse of the various events that put
the united states and the West on the defensive against communism. At the end of World War II Stalin

Germany. In creating this buffer zone the Soviet Union created Communist friendly governments
throughout Eastern Europe. The spread of Communism in Eastern Europe created a division between

Is Clara Barton A True Hero
Arthur Ashe once said, True heroism is not the urge to surpass others at whatever cost, but the urge to
serve others at whatever cost. Someone who stays strong in their heart and shows selflessness towards
others even though he or she could be in the risk of personal risk and danger is what makes a true
hero. Anyone could be recognized and admired as a hero if they could, but there s a big gap in front of
that because it adds on with the hero showing compassion in spite of the obstacles that they are faced
with. It could make someone more heroic than he or she ever was by just showing selflessness to
others. Clara Barton put herself in danger to treat the wounded during the Civil War and not only that,
but she founded what is known today the American Red Cross (History.com). Harriet Tubman helped
many slaves to freedom in the north, also placing herself in peril. (History.com). Florence Nightingale,
who was a nursing innovator did the similar as Clara Barton, but during the Crimean War
(History.com Biography.com). All of these women stressed the idea of helping others before they did
so for themselves, but that took bravery to do so. Whether the challenges that a hero has to endure, a
true hero puts others before themselves no matter what the position he or she is set in.
To begin with, Clara Barton was not only the founder of the American Red Cross, a relief to those hurt
in war or natural disasters, but someone who was admired as a hero to many people in the past and

Feminist Theory On Sexual Violence
According to Beck and Harrison (2007), about 60,500 inmates housed in state and federal facilities
reported having at least one or more experiences as a victim of sexual violence. Research conducted
by D Alessio, Flexon, and Stolzenburg (2012), was used to determine if the use of conjugal visitation
in state prisons had an effect on the number of sexual violent acts committed in prisons. D Alessio et
al. (2012) used feminist theory and sexual gratification theory to attempt to explain the cause of sexual
violence in their research. Feminist theory argues that individuals who commit sexually violent acts
such as rape do so because of their strong need to feel like they can control someone, feel powerful or
dominant (D Alessio et al. 2012). According to D Alessio et al. (2012), feminist theory can be used to
explain many sexual violent crimes such as, different types of rape, sexual victimization in the
military, and college campus sexual assaults. D Alessio et al. (2012), states that this theory derives
from the idea that men are dominant, and sexual violence is a result of the induvial needing to
showcase their dominance on someone who they believe to be vulnerable. Traditions that hold men to
be dominant promote rape myths which are based on stereotypes that shift the blame of rape from the
offender to the victim. According to D Alessio et al. (2012), sexual gratification theory argues that the
offender commits sexual violent acts in order to satisfy their sexual needs.

Agricultural Production And Its Effect On People s...
1. Introduction
Subsidy is known as the payments or money given to individuals, firms or organisations by the
government, in order to help them financially. In this essay, it will be discussed that, three main
reasons for a government to subsidise a product, in terms of ensuring local output, improving people s
health, and helping low income families. However, issues will be bought while granting subsidies,
therefore, two cautions will also be suggested regarding the problem of inefficiency and damages to
foreign producers who are not receiving subsidies.
2. Reasons for a government to subsidise a product
2.1 To ensure local output
One of the reasons for a government to give subsidies is to ensure local output. Government will give
out subsidies to local sectors, like farms and small businesses, helping them to set up or to continue
their production. Although there are always imported goods from other countries, they cannot be fully
relied on. Take agricultural production as an example, China

Human Trafficking Speech
No one shall be held in slavery or servitude , these are the words from the International Human Bill of
Rights that are supposed to protect us. However, that is not exactly the case. All around the world
there is illegal practices that involves a modern form of slavery, this form of slavery can not be easily
abolished, it often involves the practice of human trafficking. Human trafficking is the illegal practice
of transporting a person from one place to another, typically for a form of forced labor, it goes against
the words in the International Human Bill of Rights. There is human trafficking all around the world,
but the rate is higher in impoverished places such as Bangladesh, Brazil and Haiti. Human trafficking
occurs because of unstable political climates, families economically disadvantaged, and being stuck in
debt that is ever growing which one can not pay with money. Unstable political climates are catalyst
for human trafficking. The conditions of the political system are tied to the government and the
security in which the country has. In the article Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls , it states it is
easier to recruit and transport women, bribe officials and forge passports and other travel documents
(Deshpande, Neha A., and Nawal M. Nour). If the government is not tight or well developed the
chances of sneaking immigrants in is much higher, this means it is easier to use them and force them

This kind of growth doesn t happen without displacing land, people, animals, etc. Land based
resources, people s culture and historical symbols are often the victims of tourism development in
Hawaii. Many of the major resorts have been built on culturally significant sites. Construction of
tourist related businesses have played a huge part in the destruction of ancient Hawaiian burial
grounds, archaeological historic sites and sacred places. In fact, on the island of Kauai, a well known
ancient Hawaiian burial ground was excavated to make room for a huge condominium resort project.
Out of 22 acres of sacred burial grounds, only a one acre parcel was left, and human remains were
displaced and moved to make room for the project. This was devastating to the native Hawaiians who
had loved ones buried there for centuries, but seemed to be insignificant to the tourism industry that
seemed only to be worried about their new project and making money. Hundreds of other cultural and
historic sites have been bulldozed to make way for hotels and golf course developments without
regard for the environmental effects of their actions. In addition to disrupting the environment with
huge new buildings, many other sites such as ancient temples, house sites, fishing shrines, ceremonial
platforms and agricultural have been turned into tourist attractions and have been misused, abused and

The Swiss Reformation
Despite the initial successes of the Reformation in the strongest and most populous parts of the
Confederation, the Catholics mobilised their forces to strike back. Secular authorities in the Catholic
areas took over many of the rolis of the bishops in such matters as justice and finance, and in some
cases even the appointment of priests.
Following the examples of the Reformers, the Catholics also built schools, which were run by the
Jesuits. A great contribution to the Catholic renewal in Switzerland was made by Cardinal Carlo
Borromeo. He set up the collegium Helveticum in Milian in 1579 to train Swiss clergy. Borromeo was
canonised in 1610 and is regarded as the patron saint of Catholic Switzerland.
The Catholics also won back some territory. Some of the common lordships readopted Catholicism
after their victory at Kappel in 1531. In 1567 Bern gave Chablais and the Pays de Gex back to Savoy
after the intervention of the Catholic Cantons. However, other regions remained Protestant despite
great pressure. These included the Toggenburg, although it belonged to the St. Gallen monastery. In
some Cantons people were able to freely choose their own faith. Glarus stayed confessional and
Appenzell split in 1597 into Catholic Inner Rhodes and Protestant Outer Rhodes.
Before the Swiss Reformation, in 1499 an attempt of the German emperor to bind the diverging
territories of the empire more tightly to the crown resulted in the so called Swabian War, the emperor

At times, sections of dialogue are lifted directly from the books pages. More importantly, however,
Paton s themes are brought home with devastating, deep impact through a production that captures the
book s essence as close as it recounts the narrative. There isn t a false note in Cry, The Beloved
Country. Every scene in the film is perfectly executed with great composition.
Cry, The Beloved Country is the first movie about racial relations in South Africa I personally have
seen which trusts the viewer s intelligence enough not to set up one or more characters as a straw man
to represent everything evil about apartheid. Technically, the time period of the movie predates the
formal institutionalization of apartheid, but I still think the point s valid. Based on Alan Paton s 1946
novel, this film gives us a loving but painful look at a society headed toward increasing division and
violence. James Earl Jones and Richard Harris give great performances as fathers who are tested by
the unhappy fates of their respective sons. When these two have their first major scene together, we
can t help but feel compassion over the emotion involved. And later, when they eye each other while
taking refuge from a storm in a leaky church, they become an picture for two different and wary tribes
sharing a common home. The meat of Cry, the Beloved Country concerns how events in the wake of

Poe s Life In The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe

Virginia for most of his life with his adoptive parents. Due to his adoptive mother s love, Poe received
the best education money could buy. This lead him to show great promise as a writer. In one of Poe s
most well known poems, Annabel Lee , he talks about losing the love of his life. He claims that angels
were jealous of their perfect love, so they took her away from him. Poe wrote that nothing can ever
break their love for each other. In Poe s famous poem, The Raven , he speaks of a man, whose hopes
of his long lost love returning have vanished. He was a sad man until a Raven perched on his window

Superego In Lord Of The Flies Essay
Frued s theory of the human psyche is that it is made up of three parts: the id, ego, and superego.
These three parts are represented in the realistic novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Set on a
tropical island during World War II, the novel begins when schools boys from Great Britain are being
flown to safety and their plane is shot down. No adults survive, and the boys are left to govern
themselves and get rescued. In the novel Jack represents the id, Piggy and Simon the superego, and
Ralph the ego.
In Lord of the Flies Jack represents the id. The id is the primitive and instinctive part of the

after he is chosen. He also is influenced by Simon, Piggy, and Jack. He listens to the superego when
Piggy tells him to blow the conch in the beginning and listens to the id when he Ralph feasts with Jack

West Nile Virus Is A Mosquito Borne Virus
West Nile virus is a mosquito borne virus. The agent of West Nile is described as being a mosquito
borne enveloped positive strand RNA virus that emerged in 1999 in North America, specifically in
New York City (Public/Publisher Medline, 2015). Since its spread to North America it has continued
to spread throughout the United States and even places such as Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
However, its first emergence was in 1937 in Uganda (Medline Plus, 2014). According to Pub Med,
there are now more than 41,000 clinical cases of West Nile virus which also includes 1700 fatalities.
Moreover there is an estimation of 3 million people in the United States that have been infected since
last year (Pub Med, 2015). West Nile virus is spread when a mosquito bites an infected bird and also
bites a person after being infected (Medline Plus, 2014). This transmission can be found in Figure 1 of
page 6. However, there are no symptoms in most people that are infected with West Nile virus.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most people, around 70% 80% do not
develop any symptoms at all (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Despite those
statistics, that is not always the case. Some infected people experience febrile illness. For example,
about 1 in 5 people with West Nile virus will contract a fever and feel symptoms such as headaches,
body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash, etc. (CDC, 2015). Despite those symptoms,

Assistive Technology In The Classroom
To find out about the assistive technology offered in my district I contacted special education
specialist Courtney Idle. Courtney has been working in the special education field for over six years
now. She finds her students to benefit from the use of technology in the classroom. She believes
technology helps make the curriculum more comprehensible for her students. She also states that her
students are able to participate more in her classroom. The benefit of inclusion is formed from
assistive technology.
When interviewing Courtney I asked about the different options of assistive devices or services
available in our district for students with or without disabilities. She replied with iPads, chromebooks,
laptops, scribes, magnifiers, cell phones, text to speech, speech to text. All of the devices listed I
personally believe can be very beneficial in the classroom and can help ... Show more content on

Assistive technology can help alter the way students with disabilities learn in the classroom and how
their work is completed. Educators can also benefit from technology by creating individualized lesson
plans and learning about the different apps that could help their students. According to the reading
Teachers will need increased skills to select appropriate software, effectively integrate technology into
the curriculum, and devise ways of assessing student work based on potentially complex individual
and group projects (PCAST,1997). The book also states that assistive technology will continue to
impact the emergence and refinement of instruction that involves the use of instructional and assistive
technology to improve educational outcomes attained by students with disabilities (p221,2003).
Assistive technology in the classroom has allowed for students frustration levels to become lowered
and allows these individuals to reach their strengths while modifying their work in order to reach

Strategies for Alleviating the Gang Crime Problem Essay
Introduction
The definition of a gang crime by the law enforcement officials takes two dimensions but they employ
one of the definitions in order to measure and tackle this problem in the society. The first definition
considers gang related all crimes committed by individuals who belong to a particular gang without
regard to the circumstances surrounding such crimes or the nature of the offense. This therefore is a
member based definition of gang crime. Another but more restrictive definition is that a gang crime is
committed if and when such occurs as part of the function of a gang or for the benefit of the gang and
therefore is strictly gang motivated. Based on the evidence that gang motivated crimes constitute more
than half of gang ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peer groups are unorganized and small groups of individuals who have a common background and
share the same space. Their involvement in crime is not at any significant level and therefore its
influence on the identity of the group is not important. Peer groups are the lowest level of gangs. The
intermediate level is comprised of more organized groups of young people in the streets whose motive
of participating in criminal activities is strongly attached to the identity of the group so that the groups
assign themselves names. This level therefore is made up of gangs.
Finally, there are the organized criminal groups whose motive of committing crimes is for personal
gains and this may likely be their main occupation. These organized criminal groups base their
operations in the illegal market place(le.ac.uk, n.d).Gang crime is an issue of concern which touches
many aspects of a society. Not only is it a social problem but also a political as well as an
economically related issue. The most affected are the young people who have increasingly joined
gangs due to many factors personal, familial or social. This case study will discuss this topic in
relation to the different findings on the trends, causes and the responses to alleviate gang crime.

The Murder Of Thomas Becket
Alexandria Thompson
Murder of Sir Thomas Becket
3/27/2017
Dr. Kauffman
The Murder of Thomas Becket
The murder of Thomas Becket was the result of a long and bitter dispute between both Becket and
King Henry. Becket was serving as Archbishop of Canterbury, and his murder on the altar steps of
Canterbury cathedral caused a political frenzy to occur and spread throughout Europe. Becket s death
occurred because of the rash actions of four soldiers who misinterpreted an upset kings wishes. King
Henry II, was demonstrating the crowns power over the church of England by proposing the
Constitutions of Clarendon, he had divine right over the church and was in the right to attempt to
discipline ecclesiastical criminals.
King Henry, attempted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This way the king could hold the church to a standard of justice. The church saw this as an insult that
they could not handle their own matters.
Because of Becket s opposition, King Henry saw this as a slap in the face since he was the one who
appointed Becket. Becket who was once his friend had now reformed to side with the church only.
Becket rebelled against Henry by reprimanding the King, publically by calling him a sinner and
refusing to allow the silver cross to hang while in his presence. Becket rebelled in petty manners
which invoked anger in King Henry. Henry was known for his anger towards Becket, as King he was
exerting his power and the church was in constant opposition.
This famous dispute between the two leading figures of England can be detected in the letters of King
Henry and Sir Thomas Becket, King Henry felt betrayed/angered by the actions of Becket and his
view that the church was of higher power. King Henry wrote to the French King and explained how
Becket was a traitor and how he was ashamed of his behavior towards the crown.
In Becket s letter to one of the bishops he says that King Henry, is detestable and should be revoked of
dean status of the church (Pfaff 1971). With animosity like this arising between the two men a power
struggle was bound to occur leading to the ultimate demise of Sir Thomas Beckett. Becket desired for
the church to rule in supreme without question from the monarchy.
King Henry was the ruler of

Cultural Culture In Kuwait
Introduction
The term culture is one of those words that we use routinely, but what is it exactly? Basically, culture
is the multipart overall of a society which includes everything that gives a society an identity. Culture
may consist of customs, languages, and religion beliefs amid other characteristics that are ordinary to
people of a nation/region. What is predominantly interesting about cultures is that each culture, no
matter where it is located, shares at least five basic characteristics. However, every culture has its own
distinct characteristics that differentiate it from the others. One of such cultures is the Kuwait culture.
This culture awareness essay will attempt to emphasis on cultural aspects of the people of Kuwait
while drawing your attention to the social culture annalists of Kuwait nation/region s physical
geography, current and passed military conflicts and their impact on the society, weather, and civil
concern.
The Kuwaiti culture is dominant in Kuwait where the people originate. They were primary drawn to
the Kuwait Bay region because of the resources from the sea, and majority of the population still lives
within a short distance of the first coastal colonies. Kuwait exists in the middle east which borders the
Persian Gulf, sandwiched between Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Kuwait have a unique culture since the
country was never colonized. Kuwaitis therefore have been left to manage their affairs among
themselves as they see if and develop their unique

Additionally, Arthur Miller shows the problems of those people who are not able to adapt to the

outdated rules and be concentrated on the current demands of society. Additionally, Arthur Miller is
trying to help the audience to keep pace with modern trends and in different spheres of life by
stressing the indifference of the cruel world to their problems and inefficiency of the outdated rules

Shelagh Delany decides to show the life of the family, where poor relationships of mother (Helen) and
daughter (Jo) spoil their lives. The most challenging moment in this play is that such a situation in
family life is common. Generation gap and differences in their attitude to life are the core factors
affecting their peaceful communication. To raise the problem of a constantly changing environment,
the author describes the situation, where Helen, a gipsy soul, is always moving to a new flat, her
daughter Jo has no opportunity to normally study in any school for a long time (Delany 9).
Consequently, Jo has no internal forces to resist and chooses to go with the stream. Although school is
a very important social institution that can grant people success in their lives, Jo is ready to sacrifice
her successful future just to live away from her egocentric mother. Moreover, the dramatist reveals a
wide range of discriminations and prejudices existing in the real world. In her efforts to escape from
her problems, Jo finds the black boyfriend who helps her forget about her poor existence and feel
happiness. Jo has no prejudices concerning the color of her boyfriend s skin because he appears to be
friendlier and caring than her narcissistic mother. However, the Boy has certain concerns about the
attitude of Helen to his appearance and Jo needs to persuade him that her opinion is not important for

The Stanford Prison Experiment And The Milgram Experiment Introduction Ethical guidelines are the frameworks and standards that govern psychologists in conducting a morally justified research to respect the rights of the participants. Since the researchers are responsible for the welfare of the participants, it is vital for them to act in accordance with a specific strict code of ethics and moral principles. One of the common ethical framework used in many psychological studies is IVCARD where I stands for Informed Consent, V equals Voluntary Participation, C is Confidentiality, A being Accurate Reporting, R is Right To Withdraw and D as Do No Harm. However, when they conducted their experiments they did not breach any ethical guidelines since they did not exist (Matta, 2014). Hence, to protect the welfare, rights, dignity, and mental health of the participants, strict ethical guidelines were introduced in psychological experiments which have positively influenced the field of psychology. Also, due to ethical frameworks, people are viewed as participants of a study instead of subjects in an experiment. They also make psychological experiments more reputable, leading to an increase in the willingness of participation by people as their safety is ensured. The increased willingness of participation is beneficial in order to discover more about human behaviour, the effectiveness of treatment, mechanisms of a psychiatric disorder etc. Disadvantages of Ethical Guidelines Although ethical guidelines were designed to help psychologists to conduct morally justified studies and avoid ethical dilemmas, these enforceable guidelines restrict the scope of research. Despite the fact that Zimbardo s and Milgram s experiments were highly unethical, they provided valuable data about situational attribution. Similar experiments conducted in past, which are ... People lost families, homes, and just pretty much everything. Oskar Schindler saved many lives during World War Ⅱ. He brought hope for the Jews. April 8, 1908, Schindler was born in Zwittau, Austria Hungary. He was a catholic man who grew up in a very wealthy family. Over the years he became a salesman and married Emilie Schindler. He was the type of man that loved to make money, and he did by joining the SS on his way to Poland. He seemed like any other normal man, making his wealth. Schindler invested money into his own camp where Jews were sent and he would pay the nazi party off. He made sure that they were fed, not beaten and had something to call home. Schindler would arrange a list of 900 Jews to work for him. He referred to them as his children. He created this camp so he could save many. He thought that it was wrong of one man to kill another. Oscar had a soft heart for the Jews. Others did not agree with this such as his fellow generals. Many Jews thought he was the true hero. He gave them hope and somewhere to call home. This physical constant can help identify a substance. Generally, any impurity added to a pure substance will lower its observed melting point and increase the range over which melting occurs. Therefore, when two pure organic substances possess a similar melting point, a mixture containing both substances will often melt at a lower temperature and over a broader range. Conversely, if a mixture of a known and unknown substance actually contains a single substance, the melting point of the mixture will not deviate from the melting point of the known. Davis (1913) demonstrated that pairs of substances with similar melting points melted at lower temperatures and over broader melting ranges when mixed. Since the separation and purification of a compound from food or excretions often leaves toxicologists with very little material to examine, Davis (1913) recommended the use of melting point and mixed melting point data for

Da Vinci and Michelangelo further succeeded because of their versatility. The high renaissance was marked by rival city states and a continued trend of lavish spenders. Religious and political leaders spent great quantity of money to have their chapels, or any setting appear better than their rivals. Michelangelo s artwork dominates over any other in the Sistine chapel. The Sistine chapel is the ideal place of where new popes are elected. One step that has been taken toward equality was introduced with the Equal Pay Act of 1963, signed by President John F. Kennedy. This law was the first affecting the amount of job opportunities available for women and allowing them to work in traditionally male dominated fields. On the outside, this would sound like a solution where nothing could possibly go wrong, but it is not. Feminists fight for the rights that men have under the United States Constitution and to have the right to not be discriminated against. Any action against any woman, intentional or not, goes against the principles that many women and men stand for. The quest for equal rights is usually put into two different waves: the first wave being considered women s suffrage and the second being the equal right movement. One big uprising in feminism happened alongside the abolitionist movement. Many women started to realize that, as they were fighting to get African Americans out of their version of perdition at the hands of their slave owners, that they themselves were slaves to the will of the men in society. Since many women petitioned for antislavery, the Congress in session at the time put forth the gag rule, which placed many of these petitions off to the side for consideration. They have been used for decades to achieve a range of economic, social and environmental objectives. Indeed, one of the most important and challenging responsibilities of a government is allocating financial resources to achieve public good. This paper analyses the effects of energy subsidies on the consumer, the economy and the energy industry. Energy subsidies are any government actions that support the cost of energy production in terms of reduction in prices paid by consumers and increase in revenues to energy producers (World Bank, 2010). These investments aim to improve energy access by making prices more affordable, shielding domestic consumers from international price volatility and supporting energy intensive industries (The International Institute for sustainable development, 2012). In practice, energy subsidies come in different forms. (The IEA, 2002) and (UNEP, 2008) identify the following typical mechanisms by which governments support the production and consumption of energy: Direct financial transfers: grants to consumers, grants to producers, low interest or preferential loans and government loan guarantees; Preferential tax treatment: tax credits, tax rebates, exemptions on royalties, duties or tariffs, reduced tax rates, deferred tax liabilities and accelerated depreciation on energy supply equipment; Trade restrictions: tariffs, tariff rate import quotas ... These epithets were reinforced to define a characteristic style of stereotyping by playing on the attitudes that predominated among Anglo filmmakers and their white audiences (Keller 14). Two particular silent films both exemplify how stereotypes have played on racist Anglo American attitudes: the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Birth of a Nation. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, shows how minority groups are kept as subjects to Anglos. For example, several camera shots showed how this was thought to be true. Hitler used foreign policy to complete his plans to destroy the Versailles treaty, rule and colonize the rest of Europe, and exterminate all racial inferiors; such as Jews. Peace and trust between countries also began to wither from discrete pacts being signed in fear of the Germans. The annexation of Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia also was a significant event prior to an all out war. That once everyone was on the field or at the game, we were all the same. I believed that it was an activity that did not have a political influence and it was purely for entertainment. While I still believe some of that is true, this class has challenged my view point by forcing me to view sports through a different lens. As students, we tend to look at everyday activities through our personal experiences and assume that everyone else around us is experiencing them the same way. We tend to overlook the truth because we are uncomfortable admitting that things such as discrimination, and sexism still happen in today s world. More specifically, I was challenged to look at my life experiences in three different categories. These categories include the effect of neoliberalism on today s society, my social class, and my race. Through these three categories, I was able to pull out the differences between my own life and the lives of others. By viewing the same experience through another person s eyes, I noticed the extreme differences that they are going through because of the influence from society. I contend that it is a more difficult problem but not that it is a complicated one, merely one of ambiguity which, once resolved, leads the contemplator to the same conclusion as I do that in fact, no, a machine could not be conscious. Circumstances of When Whistleblowing Is Ethically Justifiable When we talk about whistleblowing and loyalty to a firm, we need to ask a number of questions: Do engineers have a duty of loyalty to their organizations? If so, engineers have a duty to act to the best interest of the firm, then is whistleblowing ever ethically justifiable? Always, people treat loyalty as a virtue. We were taught from young to be loyal to our friends, family and our country. However, in the case of loyalty to a firm, it could be a little different. Loyalty to a corporation is more on dedication and devotion to the development of the firm. Based on that, we can say that if the whistle blowing is for the good cause to the company s future, we may not say it is ethically wrong or the person is not loyal. For example, if your boss ask you to ignore some flaws or wrongdoings in a company project, you know the severe consequences for not solving those problems, then it is your duty to whistle blowing, because you are responsible to the company s future and the society, you are loyal to the objective of the company not to a wrongdoing person. The two countries fought together as allies in World War II but toward the end of the War the two nations competing ideologies and visions of the post War prevented them from working together. The Cold War was by far the biggest threat to human existence the world has ever seen, although their was never any declaration of War between the two competing nations, the Soviet Union and the United States both had weapons of mass destruction, that was capable of destroying human life as we know today. From the end of World War II up until the collapse of the Soviet Union the two nations competed in expanding their spheres of influence throughout the world. By 1960 Communism had maintained a high degree of focus, coordination, discipline, and strategic coherence in spreading its ideologies throughout the world, the West seemed to be quite the opposite. • 29. Is Clara Barton A True Hero Arthur Ashe once said, True heroism is not the urge to surpass others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost. Someone who stays strong in their heart and shows selflessness towards others even though he or she could be in the risk of personal risk and danger is what makes a true hero. Anyone could be recognized and admired as a hero if they could, but there s a big gap in front of that because it adds on with the hero showing compassion in spite of the obstacles that they are faced with. It could make someone more heroic than he or she ever was by just showing selflessness to others. Clara Barton put herself in danger to treat the wounded during the Civil War and not only that, but she founded what is known today the American Red Cross (History.com). Harriet Tubman helped many slaves to freedom in the north, also placing herself in peril. (History.com). Florence Nightingale, who was a nursing innovator did the similar as Clara Barton, but during the Crimean War (History.com Biography.com). All of these women stressed the idea of helping others before they did so for themselves, but that took bravery to do so. Whether the challenges that a hero has to endure, a true hero puts others before themselves no matter what the position he or she is set in. • 30. Feminist Theory On Sexual Violence According to Beck and Harrison (2007), about 60,500 inmates housed in state and federal facilities reported having at least one or more experiences as a victim of sexual violence. Research conducted by D Alessio, Flexon, and Stolzenburg (2012), was used to determine if the use of conjugal visitation in state prisons had an effect on the number of sexual violent acts committed in prisons. D Alessio et al. (2012) used feminist theory and sexual gratification theory to attempt to explain the cause of sexual violence in their research. Feminist theory argues that individuals who commit sexually violent acts such as rape do so because of their strong need to feel like they can control someone, feel powerful or dominant (D Alessio et al. 2012). According to D Alessio et al. (2012), feminist theory can be used to explain many sexual violent crimes such as, different types of rape, sexual victimization in the military, and college campus sexual assaults. D Alessio et al. (2012), states that this theory derives from the idea that men are dominant, and sexual violence is a result of the induvial needing to showcase their dominance on someone who they believe to be vulnerable. Traditions that hold men to be dominant promote rape myths which are based on stereotypes that shift the blame of rape from the offender to the victim. According to D Alessio et al. (2012), sexual gratification theory argues that the offender commits sexual violent acts in order to satisfy their sexual needs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Swiss Reformation Despite the initial successes of the Reformation in the strongest and most populous parts of the Confederation, the Catholics mobilised their forces to strike back. Secular authorities in the Catholic areas took over many of the rolis of the bishops in such matters as justice and finance, and in some cases even the appointment of priests. Following the examples of the Reformers, the Catholics also built schools, which were run by the Jesuits. A great contribution to the Catholic renewal in Switzerland was made by Cardinal Carlo Borromeo. He set up the collegium Helveticum in Milian in 1579 to train Swiss clergy. Borromeo was canonised in 1610 and is regarded as the patron saint of Catholic Switzerland. The Catholics also won back some territory. Some of the common lordships readopted Catholicism after their victory at Kappel in 1531. In 1567 Bern gave Chablais and the Pays de Gex back to Savoy after the intervention of the Catholic Cantons. However, other regions remained Protestant despite great pressure. These included the Toggenburg, although it belonged to the St. Gallen monastery. In some Cantons people were able to freely choose their own faith. Glarus stayed confessional and Appenzell split in 1597 into Catholic Inner Rhodes and Protestant Outer Rhodes. Cry, The Beloved Country is the first movie about racial relations in South Africa I personally have seen which trusts the viewer s intelligence enough not to set up one or more characters as a straw man to represent everything evil about apartheid.
