The Issue Of Affirmative Action Essay
Martin Luther King, in his I Have a Dream Speech, states I look to a day when people will not be
judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character for this reason affirmative
action in higher education admission should be altered for it creates a perpetually racial preference
in admission.
Affirmative action is controversial due it s issue of whether the generation of today should pay for
the past injustices done to certain ethnicities. It questions the constitutionality of its existence and
whether it perpetuates racial discrimination. Although affirmative action is a great start in
promoting diversity and exposing diverse perspectives in an educational field, it s time to realize
its modern predicaments and visualize how to better progress in terms of admission for the future
of the diversified generations of America. Thus it is vital to address reasons why it should not be
prolonged in order to create better opportunities to those who are at a disadvantaged.
The dilemma of affirmative action is defining equal opportunities especially to those ethnicity who
were historically wronged. The famous U.S landmark case Regents of the University of California
v. Bakke (1978), in which Allan Bakke, a white man, was twice rejected to University of California
Medical School at Davis, ruled that racial quotas violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th
Amendment , however race can serve a part as one of an admission criteria. Today California has

Heros in Heart of Dakness
Sharlyce Jones English 1301 November 22, 2012 Research Paper Word Count: Is there just One
hero in Joesph Conrad s Heart of Darkness? In the story Heart of Darkness there are a series of
characters, but two particular men stand out; Marlow and Kurtz. Who is the hero; Marlow or
Kurtz? Clearly both Marlow and Kurtz are the protagonists of the story; however, protagonist and
hero are not always synonymous. Marlow is the hero in the traditional sense of the word, while
Kurtz is the more modern hero, often referred to as the anti hero. Does it really matter the
background of a person to determine whether they are a hero or not? Throughout this paper I will

The Importance Of Music On Music
Studies have shown that music helps improve memory, increase focus, helps you become more
creative, reduces stress, increases your IQ, and stimulates both left and right brain while studying.
Music has been proven scientifically to have beneficial effects on mental development. The Dana
Foundation studied the impact of listening to musicwhile taking a test and the scores improved
when students were listening to music. While music can help you focus it can also impact and
regulate your mood and the best mood to take a test in is a relaxed mood. The four music types
we are doing our project on are classical, rock, country, and pop. Studies have shown that Baroque
music is the best for stimulating learning, research and work. Baroque music is a type of classical
musicand is known as the best music to listen to when learning and working as said before. The
most important is the type of noise and music. We have found that music you enjoy listening to
increases focus and music you don t enjoy listening to impedes focus.
The first type of music that we researched is classical music. We found that people who listen to
classical music have a high self esteem and can focus more when testing at any time. Classical
music is known for helping you calm down and relax your nerves while it also helps you focus.
We have two attention systems that are the complete opposite of each other. One is called the
conscious side and it helps us direct our focus towards things such as tests,

What Does The Tyger Mean
An Analysis of William Blake s The Tyger William Blake is known for two collections of poems,
those collections are Songs of Innocence (1789) and it was added onto with Songs of Experience
(1794). It is from those collections that he draws out his innermost thoughts on life often looking at
a being of God or the very human existence. In his poem The Tygerhe used numerous literary
devices that center on divine creation ultimately putting beauty and destruction hand in hand, it
does this through the lens of a Romantic Era poet. To first understand the poem by Blake it must
first be dissected. The first stanza had a set of word choice that gave a question that was
expanded upon by each stanza following the first. This question was: What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry? (lines 3 4). It is from that moment that the poem eludes to a
being above through the use of the word immortal , and considering the others works done by
Blake it can be assured that this being that is eluded to as a crafter is God. The word choice gave
way to another intriguing piece of evidence for Romanticism and that was the use of the words
fearful and symmetry together. Symmetry in art forms beauty. It is said that the more... Show more

This stanza was vaguer than the stanzas previously because it refers to a more broad choice of
words, however two words add substance to the thesis and they are the use of shoulder in line 9,
and the use of dread in line 12. The shoulder reference refers to the strength and symbol of strength
and muscle needed to build something so beautiful and so deadly. The dread reference points out
the unknown or fear building in what is unknown which points towards the idea that Blake was
putting fear and beauty together as one in this

Information Has Become An Invaluable Resource
Information has become an invaluable resource. In modern society, it is necessary to be able to
send and receive data quickly in order to keep up with the rest of the world. With so much
technology at our fingertips, it is almost unheard of for someone to be without a device that can
connect the Internet. The technology that allows these devices to communicate with one another is
known as the Internetof Things. Because of this concept, people are now able to exchange
information faster than ever before. The idea of machines being able to communicate with each
other has been around since the early 1800s. The telegraph, invented in the 1830s, became the first

IoT Analytics https://iot analytics.com/top 10 iot project application areas q3 2016/ One of the
most significant applications of IoT in society involves the media and entertainment industry. In
2014, the industry was the third fastest growing in terms of devices with IoT connections,
according to a report by Verizon Communications. More and more consumers are using devices
that can connect to the Internet, and are therefore being exposed to the content put out by
businesses. Because the industry already has most of the resources necessary to implement IoT,
businesses can gain valuable information on their customers. Businesses can use this data and
analyze it in order to deliver their advertisements in a way that is more tailored to the consumer.
Using a customer s location, behaviors, preferences, and demographics helps businesses
personalize this content so that the advertisement will be more likely to gain the viewer s interest.
With all the digital and mobile devices being used, the IoT has plenty of room to grow in this
industry. (EMarketer)
In addition to media and entertainment, the Internet of Things is also helping to improve the
transportation and logistics industry. It is crucial for businesses to have current, updated data on

The Photograph As Fine Art By Graham Clarke
Graham Clarke, in his book The Photograph as Fine Art , states that photography can be
considered as fine art ; which is a statement that I entirely agree with. People all over the world
take photos everyday, so why is someone considered an artist while the other is just a person taking
photographs? A lot of characteristics differentiate an artist from a hobbyist or a memory collector,
such as the ability to properly execute his artistic visions and capture them in an photograph.
Another characteristic is how he chooses to structure his photograph and how he positions the
objects inside the frame. Artists observe their surroundings in a different way and capture moments
in creative and beautiful photographs. There is a major difference between a snapshot and a
photograph. A snapshot captures a moment in time; a photograph captures the emotions, feelings,
and beauty from that moment in time 1.
When straight photography came out in the early 20th century, it was a revolutionary approach to
taking photographs that justly gave photography its own place in the world of art and far away
from paintings. Straight photography encourages the purity of tone and vision and is strongly
against any manipulation done to the photos after taking it.
As Graham describes its approach in saying: Speaking against manipulation, as such, it distinguishes
photography from painting as a unique medium in its own right with its own unique possibilities 2.

Comparing Checks And Balances Of The Executive And A Prime...
President is elected by the voters, while the head of state in a parliament generally Prime
Minister is elected by the legislature. The difference seems small, but it ends up making a world
of difference. The US prides itself on separation of powers the legislature makes the laws, and the
executive executes them. They provide checks and balances on each other, ensuring that neither
one gets too powerful. Either one can work, though. There are many countries with parliaments,
and the executive doesn t run away with power. The parliament itself is still subject to the checks
of the voters: voters unhappy with the performance of the executive will take it out on the
executive s party. That even gives an opportunity for a third party to arise, for voters who don t
want to switch to the opposite party. The next executive is chosen in the parliament based on
negotiations between the third party and the two major parties. That s happening in the UK right
now, where the Liberal Democratic party is in an unlikely coalition with the Conservative party,
after voters abandoned an unpopular Labor Party. The LibDems are still much smaller, but very
potent as kingmakers. (And about to be hammered themselves, next time it comes around.)... Show

The split control of the legislature and the executive in the US has led to complete gridlock, leaving
voters unhappy with the executive and livid about the legislature. There are a million variants to

Fruit Fly Research Paper
Three Point Test Cross and Gene Mapping in Drosophila Melanogaster
Many traits incorporated into the design of the Drosophila, commonly known as the fruit fly, make
it an optimal specimen for scientific research. Their short life cycle, averaging between twelve and
fourteen days, and ability to be easily manipulated through controlled mating allows scientist the
opportunity to create large sample sizes with great ease. Although these tiny creatures have been
around since the days of ancient Greece, they were not thrown into the scientific spot light until Dr.
Thomas Hunt Morgan, an embryologist at Columbia University in New York, incorporated them
into his study on sex limited inheritance. By isolating mutant flies and performing test crosses he
was able to determine that genes were in fact located on chromosomes and therefore, create a
deeper understanding of heredity. In 1910 he discovered a white eyed variant that became the fuel
behind the new field of genetics. Throughout the following years, Morgan and his contemporaries
established the foundations of classical genetics, leading to a Nobel Prize for Morgan in 1933.
Linkage, in terms of genetic importance, consists of the capability of genes to be inherited together
when they are located together on a single chromosome. A technique associated with linkage is
genetic mapping. This scientific process has been used to located genes that, when they react
together, can cause medical conditions such as heart disease and

Abstract
This paper analyses the human activities that lead towards global climatic changes. It establishes
the thought that human behavior and activities that are the major cause of global climatic changes,
therefore, human beings shall alter their lifestyles in order to put a stop at the global climatic
changes.
Global Climatic Changes
Introduction
Global climatic change can be defined as a long term shift in the overall and average climatic
conditions. It is quite evident from various statistics that there has been a significant change in the
global climate. The end of the 20th and the 21st century have witnessed some of the warmest
periods of the globe. The temperature recorded during this period was reported to be highest when
compared with the instrumental temperature records. The evident shifts in the Global climate
started in the mid of the 19th century and after that the global climate kept on getting worse with
the passage of time. (Unknown, 2007)
Human behavior and activities trigger climatic changes in a significant manner. These activities
cause the climate of the globe to change by altering the energy balance of the earth. The major threat
to the global climate is the burning of fossil fuels. These fuels, when burnt, produce Carbon dioxide
and other green house gases and aerosols which are great threats to the atmosphere. These gases
alter the solar radiations,

Ban On Weapons And War Machinery That Were Controlled By...
In July 28, 2015, a letter was addressed at the International Joint Conference on Artificial
Intelligence at Argentina that petitioned for a ban on weapons and war machinery that were
controlled by artificial intelligence. Its rapidly increasing research and growth posed a threat to the
safety of humanity and its beneficial value. The letter openly stated that technology had reached a
point where the creation of autonomous machines would be reachable in a matter of years. Letting
the development continue could possibly result in the mass production of these weapons and
accessible to all kinds of civilians and malicious forces such as terrorists and dictators. Thus, the

However, these machines have been given an increasing amount of freedom such as a 24/7
watch for intruders, unlike humans, and the ability to shoot at their own will. The topic of
giving these machines a certain degree of freedom and moral value has been a subject of
controversy. Should machines be given free will beyond human control? Many researches and
philosophers like Patrick Lin spoke against the issue of the letter, saying that it is a useful letter
of awareness, but nobody can predict whether robots will gain full autonomy in the future. (Lin
qtd. in Knight Par.8) While the idea of preserving human lives, the danger of robots given their
free will could result in more than the deaths of the adversary, but also innocent civilians. The
liberty of the robots will make them persons and not necessarily comply with our demands, since
their freedom is superior to our control. In what follows, I will argue that war robots are not
persons and should not be given a higher level of autonomy and moral value and that humans
should keep them under control. Robots reduce the need for humans in combat and therefore save
the lives of soldiers, sailors and pilots. What parent would send their child into a war zone if a
robot could do the job instead? (Parkin Par. 8) Certainly, human lives are fragile and are not finite,
but one must not forget to consider

Walmart s approach means frequent, informal cooperation among stores, distribution centres and
suppliers and less centralized control. The company s supply chain allowed consumers to
effectively pull merchandise to stores rather than having the company push goods onto shelves by
tracking customer purchases and demand. Through the use of universal product codes,
implementation of Retail links at the store, use of RFIDs and smart tags, suppliers and
manufacturers within the supply chain synchronize their demand forecaste under a collaborative
planning, forecasting and replenishment scheme, and every link in the chain was connected
through technology that includes a central database, store level point of sale systems, and a satellite
network. As per report, there was a 16% reduction in out of stocks with the use of RFIDs and
pointed out that the products using an electronic product code were replenished three times as fast
as items that only used bar code technology. These strategies have made Walmart to be the
dominant force over other competitors with information and technology helping its supply chain

Literary Explication Of Shakespeare s Sonnet 130
Literary Explication When thinking of a love poem, one thinks of a clichГ© description of the
speaker s lover or maybe is an imaginative portrayal of love in a general sense. Love poems
always have an exaggerating characteristic when describing something or someone. Sonnet 130 by
William Shakespeare, is a parody of love poetry; love is not always like it is illustrated in others
contemporaries poems. The author of this sonnet uses the traditional English sonnet form,
containing fourteen lines, written in iambic pentameter, and has an ABABCDCDEFEFGG rhyme
scheme. The sonnet s form is part of the parody because usually love sonnets writers use traditional
sonnet forms, an example for this is Francesco Petrarch that is well known for his love sonnets
written in Italian sonnet form. Shakespeare makes the contradiction between a traditional sonnet
form and a non traditional content of the sonnet. The content of this sonnet, a decretory description
of the speaker s lover, is very opposite to a traditional love poem s content. In the first three
quatrains of Sonnet 130 , the speaker compares his mistress with various thing and tells us how she
doesn t measures up to them. In the last couplet the speaker changes... Show more content on

Love poets seem to obsess with woman s appearances, but Shakespeare mange to poke on that
obsession, making this poem kind of a wakeup call on our image of beauty. As the speaker lightly
mocks traditional poems and beauty images, he turns the theme to an illustration of true love,
ending the poem on a sweet note. By turning the theme he goes from the person who he is
mocking other poets to the poet he has mocked all along. This couplet also sends the message that

the existence of an alien life, 5 min ago the people of earth believe that aliens existed. Many
individuals around the world have reportedly been contacted by extra terrestrial beings. They

individuals report that extra terrestrials are visiting the Earth because they are interested in

The report concludes that the CIA was very interested in the UFO problem until the early 1950s,
but since has paid little attention to it. Over half of all UFO reports from the late 1950 s through
the 1960 s were accounted for by manned reconnaissance flights (namely the U 2) over the United
States. This led the Air Force to make misleading and deceptive statements to the public in order to
allay public fears and to protect an extraordinarily sensitive national security project. While perhaps
justified, this deception added fuel to the later conspiracy theories and the cover up controversy of

Imagine if you were walking down the aisle on your wedding day which is meant to be the best

waiting all your life is just practically handed to you and isn t even what you wanted or who you
wanted to be with. Well, this is actually how some people s lives happen for them. Such as they
have no say in who they marry because their parents are in control of it all. In Romeo and Juliet
this is the same situation that Juliet and Paris went through in the story. Like how Juliet s parents
wanted her to marry Paris at the age of fourteen. Juliet s family was for arranging marriage since
they were arranged when they got married, but on the other hand Juliet was very against the
whole idea of marrying at fourteen, especially since she was very in love with Romeo even though

This is a big deal when things are arranged for people even though some people don t see it. For

have severe endings leading to death. In like manner Arango also stated that, Officials are
alarmed by what they described as a worsening epidemic of suicides, particularly among young
women tormented by being forced to marry to young, to someone they do not love . So even
though some people do realize the amount of stress put on people it is still necessary that

Jimmy Carter s Foreign Policy Analysis
Before Jimmy Carter, President Gerald Ford had taken over the country in August of 1974 when
President Nixon had resigned the same year. As the first unelected president in United States
history, Ford offered an inflation to those who struggled with the economy and issued amnesty to
Vietnam draft dodgers. Pardon was given along with conditions to serve two years and pledge their
allegiance to the United States. But there had been economical issues and the energy crisis had
taken place. When Carter was running for president as a Democrat in 1976, a close race resulted
in 55% of electoral votes and 50% of popular vote. Then later in 1980 when running for a second

Energy Administration and other energy related government programs into a single cabinet level

when, the United States started the Manhattan Project to develop the atomic bomb. It was under
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers supervision and then after the war in 1946, the Atomic Energy
Commission was created to control the progression of the project. It created structure in order to

Evaluation of Various Numerical Methods for Option Pricing...
In finance, a derivative is a financial instrument whose value is derived from one or more
underlying assets. An option is a contract which gives the owner the right, but not the obligation,
to buy or sell the asset at a specified strike price at the specified date. The derivative itself is just a
contract between two or more parties. Its value is determined by fluctuations in the value of the
underlying asset. This price is chosen so that the value of the contract to both sides is zero at the
outset, which means that the price is fair, so neither party is taking advantage of the other. Hence,
numerical methods are needed for pricing optionsin cases where analytic solutions are either
unavailable or not easily computable. The subject of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This method is widely used as it is able to handle a variety of conditions. Finite difference methods
were first applied to option pricing by Eduardo Schwartz in1977. In general, finite difference
methods are used to price options by approximating the differential equation that describes how the
option price moves over time by a set of difference equations. This method arises since the option
value can be modeled by partial differential equations, such as the Black Scholes PDE. This
approach has the same level of complexity tree methods. The application of Monte Carlo method
to option pricing was by Phelim Boyle in 1977. In terms of theory, Monte Carlo valuation relies on
risk neutral valuation. The technique is to generate several thousand possible random price paths
for the underlying asset and via simulation, and to calculate the average payoff of each path. This
approach is particularly useful in the valuation of options with complicated features, which would
be difficult to value through straightforward Black Scholes style or tree model. ( reference [3]
Valuation of Options)
Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. The comparison of accuracy and
consistence are presented and suitable method for each situation is discussed.
Then the report briefly goes through some exotic options and implements the numerical solutions
with binomial tree method. These options, includes American option which can be exercised any

Abbie Hoffman Counterculture Movement Essay
Plan of Investigation In the 60s and 70s, many people in the United States began realizing that
what the government was doing was wrong. They began creating their own views and beliefs on
situations such as civil rights and the Vietnam War. Out of this new sense of individualism, known
as the counter culture movement, protests and anti Establishment groups were formed. These
people believed society was going downhill and needed to be changed. One of the most prominent
and well known protesters of this time was a man named Abbie Hoffman. The topic of
investigation will be Hoffman and his efforts during this counterculture movement. A description
of the movement will be given, as well as a summary of Hoffman s efforts within the movement
from several book sources, an entry in the American Sociological Review, and a newspaper and
magazine article during the times the movement was occurring. The two sources that will be
evaluated are a college paper by Hannah Fink entitled The Counterculture Movement and a book by

Essay On The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
Week Three Essay: The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire On March twenty fifth, in the year nineteen
hundred and eleven, over one hundred and forty workers lost their lives in the deadliest factory fire
in American history, when a fire destroyed the Asch Building which housed the Triangle Waist
Company, a clothing manufacture in lower Manhattan, New York City, New York (osha.gov, 2011).
The fire killed mostly young women, some of them as young as fifteen, who were paid only six
dollars a week at that time, and were expected to work over thirteen hours a day, up to seven days a
week (aflcio.org, 2017). The fire caused some major reforms and outcry for changes in, which can

This commission helped usher in much needed changes on the labor side, which after a few
years developed into the New York State Department of Labor (aflcio.org, 2017). The fire also
helped fire departments not only in New York City, but all over the Nation at that time, make
changes to how they operate. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), which was
founded in eighteen ninety six, declared at its annual meeting right after the fire, to all
departments nation wide, how important fire drills were to life safety (Teague Farr, 2009). A few
years later the NFPA formed the Committee on Safety to Life to help with fire codes, regulations
and departments. Several years after its development, they adopted revised specifications to fire
escapes, and worked on specific regulations to exits to buildings and the Building Exit Codes
(Teague Farr, 2009). All of their work helped bring items like fire drills, egress from buildings,
sprinklers, fire escapes, and other building code changes. Fire Departments all over the Nation
were also helped and their eagerness to improve and update their equipment to meet the needs of a

The Pros And Cons Of Fuzzy Logic
As mentioned in the previous section of this chapter trend analysis, analyze just changes in the past
years in electricity demand and utilize it to predict future electricity demand, but there is no process
to explain why these changes happened. End users and behavior of end user are not important in
this model. But in end use method of forecasting, statistical information related to customers along
with amount of change act as the basis for the forecast.
While in Economical methods, the results are estimated upon the relationship between dependent
variables and factors that influence electricity consumption. Time series and least square method
are used to estimate the relationship. Comparison of these three parametric model shows that ...

2.3Factors Affecting Accurate Demand Forecast
The operation of electricity system is strongly influenced by the accuracy of demand forecast as
economy and control of electric power system is quite sensitive to forecasting errors [44 45]. The
four important factors affecting load forecast are:
I.Weather conditions Electricity demand has a strong correlation to weather. To develop an efficient
and accurate demand forecasting model for electricity much effort has been put to find a
relationship between the weather and the demand of electricity. The change in comforts of
customer due to change in weather conditions resulting in usage of appliances likes air conditioner,
space heater and water heater. It also includes use of agricultural appliances for irrigation. The
pattern of demand differs greatly in the areas with large meteorological difference during summer
and winter. Dry and wet temperature, humidity, dew point, wind speed, wind direction, sunshine
and amount of precipitation are common weather parameters that influence electricity demand.
Among the weather variables listed above, two composite weather variable functions, the cooling
degree days and heating degree days are broadly used by utility

New asphalt pavement should have sealant applied within the first year following installation.
Depending on traffic volume and vehicle weights, sealant will need to be applied every two or
three years to ensure maximum protection. Sealcoating guards against sun damage as well as
damage caused by petroleum based automotive fluids. It also revitalizes the color of asphalt that
has faded.
Have any breaks in the pavement repaired quickly. Cracks, deep cuts and potholes can let water
drain beneath the pavement and erode the foundation. Once the foundation has become eroded and
unstable, the pavement loses its ability to flex under load and extensive cracking can occur.
Make parking lots safer and more attractive by having fresh paint applied to mark parking spaces,
crosswalks, loading zones, travel directions, exits, handicapped parking spaces and fire lanes.
If an aging pavement has become unsightly, check to see if it can be salvaged with an overlay
before committing to a total replacement. If the foundation is stable, it might be cost effective to
choose an overlay, which is a course of asphalt applied to existing pavement.

Lamb To The Slaughter By Roald Dahl And My Chivalric Fiasco
Writers throughout time have taken it upon themselves to pen the injustices around them and hone
their artistic skills to document and expose acts of injustice, intending to spark change, debate, and
reform. Roald Dahl and George Saunders, two renowned authors, tackle the same responsibility in
their works, in the hopes of critiquing society and its distasteful, unsavory elements. The short
stories Lamb to the Slaughter , written by Roald Dahl, and My Chivalric Fiasco , written by George
Saunders, utilize satire and stylistic techniques to critique society and outline their perspectives
on the world around them. Roald Dahl s Lamb to the Slaughter utilizes satire and humor to
critique domesticity and the life of a housewife. His use of detail and perspective allows us to
view the eager, submissive, and anxious housewife, Mary Maloney. These traits are evident
when she glanced at the clock again and again, waiting for her husband, she merely wanted to
satisfy herself that each minute that went by made it nearer to the time when he would come
home (Dahl 1). The exaggeration and descriptive imagery humorously depicts Mary Maloney as
a submissive housewife, eager to please her husband in any way. The story satirizes domesticity
by portraying an obsessive wife, Mary, who sits like a dog waiting to greet her husband at the
door, fetching a drink for him like a toy, crying I ll get it as she jumps out of her chair, and gazing
at him all the time with large, puzzled

Healthcare Malpractice Medical Malpractice occurs when a healthcare professional provides

order to demonstrate medical malpractice, the plaintiff patient has the responsibility of the burden
of proof. The plaintiff patient must prove a preponderance of evidence, or clear concise evidence of
malpractice by supplying four elements of proof. First the plaintiff must show that the provider

The three most common reasons for this are: 1.The employer is responsible for the quality of care
at their facility, 2. The employer earns revenue from the negligent individual and, 3. The employer
is more finically and economically endowed, usually through liability insurance to afford the cost.
There are however a couple of exceptions to vicarious liability. One such exclusion is the intentional
misconduct of one patient toward another patient. In this situation the employer or employee had
no contribution to the situation. Another exceptions that would apply would be in regard to
independent contractors and, or their staff. They are not considered employees of the facility and

Apparent Agency is a term used to describe the inability of a patient to distinguish the contractor
from a regular healthcare worker of the facility. In this situation, the employer can still be held
vicariously liable if there were no efforts to differentiate them from their own employees. An
employer can also be held directly liable for an employee or contractors conduct under the legal
concept of negligent selection and retention. This happens when the employer should have either
ejected the individual for employment, carried out remediation for deficiencies, or discharged the
individual from employment; this creates primary employer

Since the income tax, tariffs have not been a major source of revenue for the United States

Clay s system that it became synonymous with it. In Clay s economic system, Protective Tariffs
were key and served a dual purpose. They protected private industries from foreign competition
and provided revenue for internal improvement projects. In turn, projects such as canal and road

cheap credit and a uniform currency. Clay believed this system would create a sound economy and
was the responsibility of the government to promote it. The problem for Henry Clay was the

The Changing Role of Organizational Performance Measurement System
How to create and measure organizational performance measurement system has been a persistent
source of debate. Traditionally, organizational performance managementsystem included measuring
financial ratios, such as return on investments, cash flows, and cost of sales.
Figure one below depicts traditional performance indicators, focused mostly on financial measures.

In the recent years the focus has been on measuring non financial ratios, such as quality, customer

Correspondences By Charles Baudelaire
Enlightenment philosopher John Locke once said, Let us then suppose the mind to be, as we say,
white paper void of all characters, without any ideas. How comes it to be furnished? ... To this I
answer, in one word, from EXPERIENCE (Locke, 1689). Locke described how the human mind is
initially a blank slate that is flourished with knowledge and sensory experiences. Within the past
few centuries, the idea of grasping knowledge and experience from the natural world has gradually
lost its appeal. In the poems, Correspondences, by Charles Baudelaire, and 273, by Emily
Dickinson, critical differences between both authors are exemplified through the use of language
and personification. The similarities reside within the common theme of appreciating the natural
world because one s experience with natureis ultimately subjective. Nevertheless, both poems
motivate readers to pay more attention to nature because it will help them learn more about their
individuality and perception. Although both Dickinson and Baudelaire write to motivate readers to
appreciate nature, Baudelaire uses personification to convey the symbolism of nature. In,
Correspondances, Baudelaire begins the poem personifying nature as a temple that can
communicate with us. He says, The pillars of nature s temple are alive/ and sometimes yield
perplexing messages (1 2). This personification is significant because nature is not talking with us,
but figuratively it is telling us something about ourselves that

A Brief Note On X Ray Vision Goggles
Abstract
MRI s today are the solution to X Rays by having radio waves go back and forth transmitting
signals that allow Doctors to see inside the human body. There are not many downsides of MRI
s, however MRI s do not fit in the average waiting room by being circular tube like machines that
take about 1 hour to produce a clear image of a patient s problem. MRI s are great when it comes
to mental disabilities but when it comes to broken bones, it is too time consuming to wait in the
machine for an hour to find out about a torn ligament or broken bone in a patient s body. A new
vision will take away the harmless effects of an MRI but also have it for every day needs in a
doctor s office. X Ray Vision goggles would allow a doctor to see a patient s broken bone or
ligaments without effects of X rays. Present Technology
Wilhelm Rontgen, a German physicist, had multiple experiments in 1895 he and found a type of
radiation which he labelled as the letter X, because he did not know what it was. His X rays were
soon discovered by Doctors which primarily used them to look inside the human body. One original
component that has not changed since has been how they are developed and made.
X Ray s are used to generate pictures that show the inside of the human body such as finding
broken bones. In Otto Zhou of the University of North Carolina, Dr Zhou and his colleagues are

The Resilience Factor is mainly targeted at working class Western culture, whereas the research
of Maggie Zraly and her colleagues focuses on the vastly different people of Rwanda, who
experienced a tremendously dissimilar adversity from what most people reading The Resilience
Factor have or will face. However, this sharp contrast also allows us to see the universality of
resilience in all of humanity, independent of culture, geography, or values. Kwihangana, the
Rwandan process of drawing strength from within oneself, bears a striking resemblance to one
of the techniques of putting it in perspective, in which you tell yourself that you can deal with an
adversity, that you do have the strength to overcome (Reivich and ShattГ© 208). The process of
ABC ing adversities also includes the essential aspect of identifying and accepting an adversity
for what it is, closely related to gukomeza ubuzima, which allows Rwandans to do the same by
accepting struggle and continuing to fight. Finally, the practice kwongera kubaho, which forces
Rwandans to acknowledge their existential being, is closely related to part of The Resilience
Factor s conclusion, which highlights the existential paradox of mortality. This paradox is what
makes time precious, as we contemplate the risk of taking action while we only have one life to
live (309). This relates to our resilience in that we must balance the fear of failure and pain while
taking the right risks to thrive. This balance may not lay directly in The Resilience Factor, the book

Risk Assessment of Terrorism
Introduction A risk assessment happens to be a crucial element in recognizing mitigation measures.
It comprise of evaluating capability, cause, chance, and targeting. Assessing threats accurately is a
challenge for many countries. In most instances, attaching concerns to tangible and prospective
threats to a country security that is mostly open to policy makers remains a problem. Even agencies
that are generously and of highly, superior intelligence struggles to plan logical and well timed
threat assessments across the security scale. Risk assessment Terrorism is a main challenge to
assess the threats associated with the issue. The act comprise of unstructured associations of
extremely mobile individuals, whose objectives are nearly impractical to weigh without access to
consistent and appropriate human intelligence as terrorist groups remain indefinable. Nevertheless,
assessing the threats from terrorist in the recent years is a significant preoccupation for security
agencies found in the Western countries. Faced with the common, destructive nurture related to
international terrorism common in the contemporary world, evaluating the degree and the threat
scope is critical (Zanders et al 2000). This makes selection of threats to help choose appropriate
measures to defend the state interests, which is a main concentration for political leaders in
Western countries. The fear that many terrorists resorts to usage of mass destruction weapons is
nothing unusual. The range of

Policy Debate was the first debate established in the National Verbalization and Debate Sodality. In
Policy Debate there are two teams in a room: The Affirmative Team and the Negative Team. This
commenced the base affirmative versus negative in Lincoln Douglas. Two people are on each team
just as most debates are. Three variants of verbalizations (Constructives, Cross Examinations and

Constructive, withal kenned as the 1NC, is presented (this is identically tantamount thing as the
affirmative constructive except conspicuously for the negative side), and the 1NC is Cross

Sub Saharan Patriarchy Essay
According to books like the Bible women and even in some societies today, women are normally
seen as inferior to men and quite weak to handle rigorous tasks like governance among others.
Hence the ratio of Sub Saharan male and female representation and participation in decision making
structures are greatly imbalanced, men are often favored in these structures. This phenomenon is
not unique to Sub Saharan African countries but also occurs in first world countries where women
are less represented in parliament. What is patriarchy? a system of social structures and practices in
which men dominate, oppress and exploit women (Walby,1990). (Kamla,1993) agrees with Walby s
assertion; patriarchy is constructed on a system of power relations which are hierarchical and
unequal where men control women s production, reproduction, and sexuality. It imposes
masculinity and femininity character stereotypes in a society which strengthen the iniquitous
power relations between men and women. (Ashenafi, 2009) asserts that the patriarchal system

Modern America and the Diminishing Individual
In his essay Modern America and the Diminishing Individual , Peter Cooper talks about how
today there is an absence of genuine compassion for one another. Copper opens his essay by
stating The impudence, indifference, self centeredness, evidenced by some Americans are
symptomatic of contemporary national malaise (70). Which basically means that our attitude for

Today you would be lucky to even know your neighbors names. The term love thy neighbor as
you love yourself is not really relevant anymore. Why? You see in today s society we only feel
the need to associate ourselves with people that can potentially help us. We are so focused on what
we can get out of people that we no longer value each other.
We have become so self indulgent that it has this have become the norm, so much that for us we
are unaware of when we are doing it. Recently my Uncle called me and asked me how I was
doing, as we further ventured into our conversation, he asked me if I could ask my coach to let
him rent the gym. Although he called me, he really did not want to know how I was he wanted
me to do a favor for him. He only asked how I was doing because it was the polite thing to do.

to use you for things rather than to see how you are doing, and getting to know you. Often times
we are victims of this, we do things like this unconsciously, and we use people rather than building

selfish motives and are blind to the fact that we are actually doing it.
We have

  • 2. The Issue Of Affirmative Action Essay Martin Luther King, in his I Have a Dream Speech, states I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character for this reason affirmative action in higher education admission should be altered for it creates a perpetually racial preference in admission. Affirmative action is controversial due it s issue of whether the generation of today should pay for the past injustices done to certain ethnicities. It questions the constitutionality of its existence and whether it perpetuates racial discrimination. Although affirmative action is a great start in promoting diversity and exposing diverse perspectives in an educational field, it s time to realize its modern predicaments and visualize how to better progress in terms of admission for the future of the diversified generations of America. Thus it is vital to address reasons why it should not be prolonged in order to create better opportunities to those who are at a disadvantaged. The dilemma of affirmative action is defining equal opportunities especially to those ethnicity who were historically wronged. The famous U.S landmark case Regents of the University of California v. Bakke (1978), in which Allan Bakke, a white man, was twice rejected to University of California Medical School at Davis, ruled that racial quotas violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment , however race can serve a part as one of an admission criteria. The Importance Of Music On Music Studies have shown that music helps improve memory, increase focus, helps you become more creative, reduces stress, increases your IQ, and stimulates both left and right brain while studying. Music has been proven scientifically to have beneficial effects on mental development. The Dana Foundation studied the impact of listening to musicwhile taking a test and the scores improved when students were listening to music. What Does The Tyger Mean An Analysis of William Blake s The Tyger William Blake is known for two collections of poems, those collections are Songs of Innocence (1789) and it was added onto with Songs of Experience (1794). It is from those collections that he draws out his innermost thoughts on life often looking at a being of God or the very human existence. In his poem The Tygerhe used numerous literary devices that center on divine creation ultimately putting beauty and destruction hand in hand, it does this through the lens of a Romantic Era poet. To first understand the poem by Blake it must first be dissected. The first stanza had a set of word choice that gave a question that was expanded upon by each stanza following the first. This question was: What immortal hand or eye, Could frame thy fearful symmetry? (lines 3 4). The dread reference points out the unknown or fear building in what is unknown which points towards the idea that Blake was putting fear and beauty together as one in this ... IoT Applications in 2016 IoT Analytics https://iot analytics.com/top 10 iot project application areas q3 2016/ One of the most significant applications of IoT in society involves the media and entertainment industry. In 2014, the industry was the third fastest growing in terms of devices with IoT connections, according to a report by Verizon Communications. More and more consumers are using devices that can connect to the Internet, and are therefore being exposed to the content put out by businesses. Because the industry already has most of the resources necessary to implement IoT, businesses can gain valuable information on their customers. Businesses can use this data and analyze it in order to deliver their advertisements in a way that is more tailored to the consumer. • 7. The Photograph As Fine Art By Graham Clarke Graham Clarke, in his book The Photograph as Fine Art , states that photography can be considered as fine art ; which is a statement that I entirely agree with. People all over the world take photos everyday, so why is someone considered an artist while the other is just a person taking photographs? A lot of characteristics differentiate an artist from a hobbyist or a memory collector, such as the ability to properly execute his artistic visions and capture them in an photograph. Another characteristic is how he chooses to structure his photograph and how he positions the objects inside the frame. Artists observe their surroundings in a different way and capture moments in creative and beautiful photographs. There is a major difference between a snapshot and a photograph. A snapshot captures a moment in time; a photograph captures the emotions, feelings, and beauty from that moment in time 1. When straight photography came out in the early 20th century, it was a revolutionary approach to taking photographs that justly gave photography its own place in the world of art and far away from paintings. Straight photography encourages the purity of tone and vision and is strongly against any manipulation done to the photos after taking it. As Graham describes its approach in saying: Speaking against manipulation, as such, it distinguishes photography from painting as a unique medium in its own right with its own unique possibilities 2. • 8. Comparing Checks And Balances Of The Executive And A Prime... President is elected by the voters, while the head of state in a parliament generally Prime Minister is elected by the legislature. The difference seems small, but it ends up making a world of difference. The US prides itself on separation of powers the legislature makes the laws, and the executive executes them. They provide checks and balances on each other, ensuring that neither one gets too powerful. Either one can work, though. There are many countries with parliaments, and the executive doesn t run away with power. The parliament itself is still subject to the checks of the voters: voters unhappy with the performance of the executive will take it out on the executive s party. That even gives an opportunity for a third party to arise, for voters who don t want to switch to the opposite party. The next executive is chosen in the parliament based on negotiations between the third party and the two major parties. That s happening in the UK right now, where the Liberal Democratic party is in an unlikely coalition with the Conservative party, after voters abandoned an unpopular Labor Party. The LibDems are still much smaller, but very potent as kingmakers. (And about to be hammered themselves, next time it comes around.)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Fruit Fly Research Paper Three Point Test Cross and Gene Mapping in Drosophila Melanogaster Many traits incorporated into the design of the Drosophila, commonly known as the fruit fly, make it an optimal specimen for scientific research. Their short life cycle, averaging between twelve and fourteen days, and ability to be easily manipulated through controlled mating allows scientist the opportunity to create large sample sizes with great ease. Although these tiny creatures have been around since the days of ancient Greece, they were not thrown into the scientific spot light until Dr. Thomas Hunt Morgan, an embryologist at Columbia University in New York, incorporated them into his study on sex limited inheritance. By isolating mutant flies and performing test crosses he was able to determine that genes were in fact located on chromosomes and therefore, create a deeper understanding of heredity. In 1910 he discovered a white eyed variant that became the fuel behind the new field of genetics. Throughout the following years, Morgan and his contemporaries established the foundations of classical genetics, leading to a Nobel Prize for Morgan in 1933. Linkage, in terms of genetic importance, consists of the capability of genes to be inherited together when they are located together on a single chromosome. A technique associated with linkage is genetic mapping. This scientific process has been used to located genes that, when they react together, can cause medical conditions such as heart disease and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

RUNNING HEAD: Global Climatic Changes Global Climatic Changes Student Name University Name Abstract This paper analyses the human activities that lead towards global climatic changes. It establishes the thought that human behavior and activities that are the major cause of global climatic changes, therefore, human beings shall alter their lifestyles in order to put a stop at the global climatic changes. Global Climatic Changes Introduction Global climatic change can be defined as a long term shift in the overall and average climatic conditions. It is quite evident from various statistics that there has been a significant change in the global climate. The end of the 20th and the 21st century have witnessed some of the warmest periods of the globe. The temperature recorded during this period was reported to be highest when compared with the instrumental temperature records. The evident shifts in the Global climate started in the mid of the 19th century and after that the global climate kept on getting worse with the passage of time. (Unknown, 2007) Human behavior and activities trigger climatic changes in a significant manner. These activities cause the climate of the globe to change by altering the energy balance of the earth. The major threat to the global climate is the burning of fossil fuels. These fuels, when burnt, produce Carbon dioxide and other green house gases and aerosols which are great threats to the atmosphere. These gases alter the solar radiations, ... In July 28, 2015, a letter was addressed at the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence at Argentina that petitioned for a ban on weapons and war machinery that were controlled by artificial intelligence. Its rapidly increasing research and growth posed a threat to the safety of humanity and its beneficial value. The letter openly stated that technology had reached a point where the creation of autonomous machines would be reachable in a matter of years. The topic of giving these machines a certain degree of freedom and moral value has been a subject of controversy. Should machines be given free will beyond human control? Many researches and philosophers like Patrick Lin spoke against the issue of the letter, saying that it is a useful letter of awareness, but nobody can predict whether robots will gain full autonomy in the future. (Lin qtd. in Knight Par.8) While the idea of preserving human lives, the danger of robots given their free will could result in more than the deaths of the adversary, but also innocent civilians. The liberty of the robots will make them persons and not necessarily comply with our demands, since their freedom is superior to our control. In what follows, I will argue that war robots are not persons and should not be given a higher level of autonomy and moral value and that humans should keep them under control. Robots reduce the need for humans in combat and therefore save the lives of soldiers, sailors and pilots. What parent would send their child into a war zone if a robot could do the job instead? • 13. Literary Explication Of Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 Literary Explication When thinking of a love poem, one thinks of a clichГ© description of the speaker s lover or maybe is an imaginative portrayal of love in a general sense. Love poems always have an exaggerating characteristic when describing something or someone. Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare, is a parody of love poetry; love is not always like it is illustrated in others contemporaries poems. The author of this sonnet uses the traditional English sonnet form, containing fourteen lines, written in iambic pentameter, and has an ABABCDCDEFEFGG rhyme scheme. The sonnet s form is part of the parody because usually love sonnets writers use traditional sonnet forms, an example for this is Francesco Petrarch that is well known for his love sonnets written in Italian sonnet form. Shakespeare makes the contradiction between a traditional sonnet form and a non traditional content of the sonnet. The content of this sonnet, a decretory description of the speaker s lover, is very opposite to a traditional love poem s content. An option is a contract which gives the owner the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the asset at a specified strike price at the specified date. The derivative itself is just a contract between two or more parties. Its value is determined by fluctuations in the value of the underlying asset. This price is chosen so that the value of the contract to both sides is zero at the outset, which means that the price is fair, so neither party is taking advantage of the other. Hence, numerical methods are needed for pricing optionsin cases where analytic solutions are either unavailable or not easily computable. The subject of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This method is widely used as it is able to handle a variety of conditions. Finite difference methods were first applied to option pricing by Eduardo Schwartz in1977. In general, finite difference methods are used to price options by approximating the differential equation that describes how the option price moves over time by a set of difference equations. This method arises since the option value can be modeled by partial differential equations, such as the Black Scholes PDE. This approach has the same level of complexity tree methods. The application of Monte Carlo method to option pricing was by Phelim Boyle in 1977. In terms of theory, Monte Carlo valuation relies on risk neutral valuation. The technique is to generate several thousand possible random price paths for the underlying asset and via simulation, and to calculate the average payoff of each path. This approach is particularly useful in the valuation of options with complicated features, which would be difficult to value through straightforward Black Scholes style or tree model. In August 1962 the Soviet union climbed a higher rung with the Nikolaev popovich expedition.while orbiting the earth, the twin Vostoks were so precisely targeted that they came with them in Astounding. 3 miles of each other. This was the skill needed to accurately join the lunar module with the spacecraft after astronauts had walked in the moon. Again the faithful words of Kennedy rang out through the TV stations and newspapers of America. The eyes of the world look into space to the moon and to the planets beyond we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest. The first landing would be hardly less significant if disaster should overtake the expedition and prevent the safe return of any or all the crewmen. Others would follow and return alive. The media exposed the space race to national attention. Kennedy had said it. A man would walk on the moon before this decade was over, and James E. Webb, Space Agency Director, responded, I happen to think we will make the lunar landing and return before they do. But, the Americans weren t as far behind as they appeared. Sure Russia, had the technology to connect two spacecrafts of equal masses while in orbit, but the U.S. first discovered the magic of attaching spacecrafts of different sizes, which was more realistic. For this reason, they sold and generated controversies in the United States. However, there was a time in America s history when tariffs generated enough controversy to almost insight a civil war. In the U.S. senate, in February 1832, Kentucky Senator Henry Clay gave a speech called In defense of the American System. Henry Clay s American System included a protective tariff, a national bank, and federally funded internal improvements. In the speech, Clay defined the most important part of the American system. Henry Clay stated, ...The policy we have been considering ought to be continued to be regarded as the genuine American System. The policy Clay was speaking of was the Protective Tariff. The tariff was so important to Clay s system that it became synonymous with it. In Clay s economic system, Protective Tariffs were key and served a dual purpose. They protected private industries from foreign competition and provided revenue for internal improvement projects. In turn, projects such as canal and road building produce needed jobs and improved the nation s infrastructure. A national bank provided cheap credit and a uniform currency. • 32. Correspondences By Charles Baudelaire Enlightenment philosopher John Locke once said, Let us then suppose the mind to be, as we say, white paper void of all characters, without any ideas. How comes it to be furnished? ... To this I answer, in one word, from EXPERIENCE (Locke, 1689). Locke described how the human mind is initially a blank slate that is flourished with knowledge and sensory experiences. Within the past few centuries, the idea of grasping knowledge and experience from the natural world has gradually lost its appeal. In the poems, Correspondences, by Charles Baudelaire, and 273, by Emily Dickinson, critical differences between both authors are exemplified through the use of language and personification. The similarities reside within the common theme of appreciating the natural world because one s experience with natureis ultimately subjective. Nevertheless, both poems motivate readers to pay more attention to nature because it will help them learn more about their individuality and perception. Although both Dickinson and Baudelaire write to motivate readers to appreciate nature, Baudelaire uses personification to convey the symbolism of nature. In, Correspondances, Baudelaire begins the poem personifying nature as a temple that can communicate with us. He says, The pillars of nature s temple are alive/ and sometimes yield perplexing messages (1 2). This personification is significant because nature is not talking with us, but figuratively it is telling us something about ourselves that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. A Brief Note On X Ray Vision Goggles Abstract MRI s today are the solution to X Rays by having radio waves go back and forth transmitting signals that allow Doctors to see inside the human body. There are not many downsides of MRI s, however MRI s do not fit in the average waiting room by being circular tube like machines that take about 1 hour to produce a clear image of a patient s problem. MRI s are great when it comes to mental disabilities but when it comes to broken bones, it is too time consuming to wait in the machine for an hour to find out about a torn ligament or broken bone in a patient s body. A new vision will take away the harmless effects of an MRI but also have it for every day needs in a doctor s office. X Ray Vision goggles would allow a doctor to see a patient s broken bone or ligaments without effects of X rays. Present Technology Wilhelm Rontgen, a German physicist, had multiple experiments in 1895 he and found a type of radiation which he labelled as the letter X, because he did not know what it was. His X rays were soon discovered by Doctors which primarily used them to look inside the human body. One original component that has not changed since has been how they are developed and made. X Ray s are used to generate pictures that show the inside of the human body such as finding broken bones. The Resilience Factor is mainly targeted at working class Western culture, whereas the research of Maggie Zraly and her colleagues focuses on the vastly different people of Rwanda, who experienced a tremendously dissimilar adversity from what most people reading The Resilience Factor have or will face. However, this sharp contrast also allows us to see the universality of resilience in all of humanity, independent of culture, geography, or values. Kwihangana, the Rwandan process of drawing strength from within oneself, bears a striking resemblance to one of the techniques of putting it in perspective, in which you tell yourself that you can deal with an adversity, that you do have the strength to overcome (Reivich and ShattГ© 208). The process of ABC ing adversities also includes the essential aspect of identifying and accepting an adversity for what it is, closely related to gukomeza ubuzima, which allows Rwandans to do the same by accepting struggle and continuing to fight. Finally, the practice kwongera kubaho, which forces Rwandans to acknowledge their existential being, is closely related to part of The Resilience Factor s conclusion, which highlights the existential paradox of mortality. This paradox is what makes time precious, as we contemplate the risk of taking action while we only have one life to live (309). This relates to our resilience in that we must balance the fear of failure and pain while taking the right risks to thrive. This balance may not lay directly in The Resilience Factor, the book can help us find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
