Q4. WHO WOULD BE THE
AUDIENCE FOR YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT?
AGE RATING OF THE FILM
 The age rating of this film comfortably sits on 15. This is because what I
have noticed is that due to the fact that we use profanity and real
replicas of guns and drugs show that it will definitely will not be
suitable for the age ratings of PG, U, 12. After conducting some
research into the BBFC we may have had some controversy when
displaying drugs in the film. This is because it varies whether we
promote the feelings we get from drugs and whether we have
instructed the audience on how to take drugs. All off the above have
not been shown or mentioned in the film
USES OF GRATIFICATION
 This will be cover:
 Personal Identities
 Personal Relationship
 Escapism
 Information/Surveillance
PERSONAL IDENTITIES
 Depending on who you are and what you have been through, certain
people may view this opening sequence negatively or positively.
Someone who is relatable to these sensitive topics may find it that
someone has finally picked up on one of the3 problems that they are
facing in their neighbourhood’s whereas other people may see it as
viewing the things as something bad and even end up stigmatizing a
certain ethnic group or age based on what they have gathered. For
example, people may sympathise for the person undergoing the mental
issues whereas someone who saw the gun in a teenagers hands might
not favour his side and make negative inferences from it.
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP
 This can also have an impact to certain people in the audience because
people come from different classes and ethnicities however they may
share the same common issues that people are facing in the opening
sequence. For example, we have the issue of mental health that doesn’t
only lie in the working class and the issues that face. Middle class and
even upper class pupil may know or have someone who is going under
these issues.
ESCAPISM
 This could be used as a escapism because the things that are
happening in this world is that it’s a world that has crime and is full of
action which is not included in our every day lifestyles, whereas the
characters in this opening sequence are living a more over the top
lifestyles. In comparison to most peoples life, they do not undergo all
the issues and live “life on the edge”.
INFORMATION
 Since this opening sequence is quite realistic and has taken real life
instances and issues and put it inside a two minute clip. People who are
not familiar with the real issues that happen in London are now able to
see the truth. Although it is not 100% valid, there are elements of truth
inside. Citizens of Britain who are middle class or even upper class not
know what actually happens so the may want to see what is going on
and get information from it. This opening sequence does help get a
snapshot of current society and shows what happens around.
DEMOGRAPHICS
 The demographics that I will be covering are:
 Age
 Gender
 Ethnicity
 Regionalism
 Social Status
AGE
 Preferably, this film will be aimed and targeted for people who are
young. This will range between the ages of 15-18 years old. This is
because the actors that are in the film are young and the audience
could also be able to relate to them. Furthermore, this may also stretch
to people who are older most likely to be in their mid 30’is because
they may want to see the difference between how youths are socialised
now and before.
GENDER
 Although the main characters are male we do get a glimpse of the role
of the female character which shows that this film is not completely
centred around boys. This will be able to reach the audience of both
boys and girls because of the morals that they are going to bring off.
They also play an important role in the society in the film as that
teenage boys have come to the age where they begin to find love and
girls do have a big impact on boys lives which could be for the good
and the bad but in this instance the girl is used to keep him out of
trouble.
ETHNICITY
 Even though the characters in the opening sequence are black and we
do get to see our first white character in the background, this film will
be targeted for all types of ethnicities to watch. This is because the
places that it is set in is diverse and has a range of different people
races inside which allows it to reach most but some of the situations
that are placed in this opening sequence may not relate to all social
groups.
REGIONALISM
 This film will mainly target the people in the UK due to the language
and dialogue that happens but other people especially in the United
States are similar when it comes to the urban settings they can also to
relate to the things that’s happening. Also this will also benefit the
major cities in Britain such as London, Birmingham and Manchester.
SOCIAL STATUS
 The intended audience for this opening sequence has may be directed
at the people who may be working class because this film is the most
relatable to them and can show the audience some morals and may
potentially enlighten them to not fall under the same deprivation the
characters in the film are going through. For example, through
economic needs, social needs, and social solidarity.
