2. To decide a target audience we looked at how the films we researched
were rated and we decided upon a 15 rating overall. Also we made it a 15
because there are scenes of violence and death which younger viewers
would find upsetting. We didn’t make our opening an 18 as the issues in
the opening aren’t overly explicit scenes and the character that dies is a
man which is allowed to be shown in 15 rated films. The actual age
ranges we were trying to cater for were late teens to middle age so a 15
rating would suit that.
As psychological thrillers don’t tend to attract one gender over another
we tried to make our opening suitable for both males and females to
enjoy.
3. In our piece there is one male and one female. The female is in her mid to late
teens to represent the younger side of our target audience and also other
females, to hopefully allow some people to relate to her and attracting more
teens to watch the film. Also having a female lead goes against what we saw in
the films we researched where they mostly had male leads. She is also wearing
clothes that normally younger people would wear, therefore making her even
more relatable.
The man shows the older side of our demographic and he also shows that more
mature people can enjoy the film as well as teenagers. He is wearing a suit
which even further shows that he is older.
4. We didn’t have many props in our piece but the main one was the gun.
During research we found that men are generally more interested in
action and violence than women. Therefore heavily featuring the gun
throughout would attract more males to watching our film.
The teenage girl doesn’t have a prop to attract female audiences but her
appearance (costume and makeup) does appeal to younger people like
the man’s suit appeals to an older audience as they are more likelyto
wear suits that younger people.
