How did you attract/address your audience?
When discussing the genre and themes of my film, it was obvious that the audience should be older
teenage males and young men. In order to adhere to this, I chose to use a young adult male actor. As
he is also the only actor featured throughout the beginning of the sequence, the audience are able
to establish a connection and relate to him almost immediately due to there being no other
distractions surrounding him.
The costume that the main character (Jack) wears allows the audience to understand his type of
personality and also the genre of the film. As Jack wears an all-in-one brightly coloured suit with the
cookie monster printed all over it, this shows the comedy aspect to the film and helps the audience
to envision the antics from the previous night. However I purposely did not feature any footage from
the night before as it allows the audience to use their imagination and fill in the gaps with how they
would like to think the night went. The costume jack wears is crucial as immediately you can see he
is immature and doesn’t take life too seriously which is all part of his attitude towards life.
I didn’t choose a female for the main character because the common ideology of male teens/young
adults is them being immature, troublesome and just being generally lazy. So in order to adhere to
this, it made much more sense to use a male as I didn’t want the audience to be surprised in anyway
as this could then lead to a break it continuity.
I think the class audience for my film is the lower/middle class as they are the ones who are able to
relate most as they can see similarities between themselves and the actor. The lower class relates to
those who are unemployed or with low paying wage jobs and the main character in my films falls
into this category. However as jack does have a back up source of income from his parents, this
would make his social surroundings middle class. Because of this, middle class people may also be
able to relate well to him, and they are the ones who fall into the category of people with a
disposable income.
Overall, with all of these aspects taken into consideration, it is pretty clear how I attracted and
addressed the targeted audience and why my media product would be of interest to them.
