Introduction
PWM rectifier is
an AC to DC power converter, that is
implemented using forced commutated
power electronic semiconductor
switches.
Conventional PWM converters are used
for wind turbines that have a permanent-
magnet alternator.
Features of PWM Rectifier
 Bi-directional power flow,
 Nearly sinusoidal input current,
 Regulation of input power factor to unity,
 Low harmonic distortion of line current (below5%),
 Adjustment and stabilization of DC link voltage (or
current),
 Reduced capacitor (or inductor) size due to the
continuous current,
 Properly operated under line voltage distortion and Line
frequency variations

Simulink Model
Type of PWM Rectifiers
Current rectifiers
 The main advantage is that the rectified
voltage is regulated from zero.
 They are suitable for work with DC loads
(DC motors, current inverters).
Voltage rectifiers
 The rectified voltage on the output is
smoother than the output voltage of the
current type rectifier.
Advantages
Its used to reduce of higher order
harmonics.
It also makes it possible to control
the magnitude of the output
voltage.
Applications
Used as an input rectifier for an indirect
frequency converter.
It is useful mainly in traction.
 It can be used as an active filter.
Future Scope
 New recommendations and future standards
have increased the interest in power factor
correction circuits and there are multiple
solutions to make line current is sinusoidal.
 Future PWM rectifier will be of reduced input
harmonics and improved power factor.
