High Gain Interleaved Cuk Converter with Phase Shifted PWMtheijes
DC-DC converters with ripple on input source current inject harmonics to the power system which in turn cause harmful to other connected devices. These converters with high efficiency and low input current ripple are essential in most common applications. Cuk converter provide reduction in the ripple of input and output current compared to other traditional converters which can be used for either step up or step down applications. Generally, a conventional cuk converter in continuous conduction mode brings in large current ripple on input side which in turn injects harmonics to the source. This undesirable input current ripple is mitigated by employing the interleaved cuk converter (ICC). Simulation results of ICC shows that the input ripple current has been reduced significantly from 7.5A to 1A compared to conventional cuk converter. The energy-transfer-capacitor in basic cuk converters is splitted into two capacitors. The rectifier diode is replaced by two diodes that form with the two capacitors a switched-capacitor circuit, which appears connected between the input and output inductances of the original converter. A hybrid circuit, presenting a higher DC voltage ratio than the classical Cuk circuit can be obtained. A high gain interleaved cuk converter is designed and simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK for 40V with an input of 20V.

This paper analyzes the behaviour of a Voltage Source Converter Based HVDC system under DC pole to ground fault & AC faults for 2-level VSC-HVDC & 12-pulse VSC-HVDC system in order to better understand the system under such faults. DC line faults on HVDC systems utilising Voltage Source Converters (VSC) are a major issue for HVDC systems in which complete isolation of the faulted system is not a viable option. The occurrence of pole-to-ground faults on DC link is the most common fault in HVDC system. It was observed that with the occurrence of DC pole to ground faults leads to substantial over current in the AC grid system which may lead to damage of the converter valve. Simulation of 2-level VSC-HVDC under AC fault is carried out. The fault current magnitude is attempted with the mathematical analysis & which was found to be the same as the simulated result. This paper also compares the performance of the conventional 12-pulse (CSC) HVDC system with the PWM based 2-level VSC-HVDC & 12-pulse VSC-HVDC system.
Three Phase Single Stage Isolated Cuk based PFC ConverterAsoka Technologies
In this paper, analysis and design of a three phase isolated Cuk based power factor correction (PFC) converter has been proposed. The proposed converter is operated in discontinuous output inductor current mode (DOICM) to achieve PFC at ac input. This avoids the inner current control loop which further eliminates the sensing of current. This makes the system more reliable and robust. The converter requires only one simple voltage control loop for output voltage regulation and all the power switches are driven by the same gate signal which simplifies the gate driver circuit. The detailed operation of the converter and design calculations are presented. And also a small signal model of the converter by using CIECE approach is presented to aid the controller design. The experimental results from a 2-kW laboratory prototype with 208-V line-to-line input voltage, 400-V output voltage are presented to confirm the operation of the proposed converter. An input power factor of 0.999, an input current total harmonic distortion of as low as 4.06% and a high conversion efficiency of 95.1% are achieved from laboratory prototype.
This paper presents an analysis of virtual-flux direct power control (VFDPC) technique for the three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) ac-dc converter. The proposed VFDPC is developed by assuming the grid voltage and converter line filters quantities are related to a virtual three-phase ac motor. The controller works with less number of sensors by eliminating the voltage sensors used for measuring the three-phase grid voltage. The grid virtual flux which is proportional to the grid voltage will be estimated from the information of converter switching states, line current, and dc-link output voltage. Several analyses are performed in order to study the steady state and dynamic performance of the converter, particularly during the load and DC voltage output reference variations. The proportional integral (PI) controller at the outer voltage control loop of VFDPC is tuned properly and the entire PWM ac-dc converter system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to ensure the dc output voltage follow the desired output voltage under steady state and dynamic conditions. Ac-dc converter utilizing the proposed VFDPC is able to generate three-phase input current waveforms that are almost sinusoidal with low harmonics contents which is less than 5% and near unity power factor (pf) operation.
This paper proposes the use of Embedded EZ-source
inverter system (EZSI) as a single stage power conversion
concept for adjustable speed drives (ASD) in photovoltaic
applications. Open loop and closed loop control strategy of
EZSI system are proposed. EZSI produces the same voltage
gain as Z-source inverter (ZSI) but due to the DC sources
embedded within the X- shaped impedance network, it has
the added advantage of inherent source filtering capability
and also reduced capacitor sizing. This is attained without
any extra passive filters. By controlling the shoot-through
duty ratio and modulation index, EZSI system can produce
any desired AC output voltage even greater than DC rail
voltage and it also provides ride-through capability under
voltage sag. These advantages are more significant for
adjustable speed drive (ASD) applications in order to regulate
the speed. The operational analysis, control strategy and
simulation results exemplify that an EZSI is the most
promising technique for renewable energy applications in
order to reduce the overall system complexity and thereby
improving the inverter efficiency.

Power Quality Improvement Using Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter Based D...IJERA Editor
Cascaded multilevel configuration of the inverter has the advantage of its simplicity and modularity over the
configurations of the diode-clamped and flying capacitor multilevel inverters. This paper presents a threephase,
five-level and seven level cascaded multilevel voltage source inverter based active filter for power line
conditioning to improve power quality in the distribution network. The DSTATCOM helps to improve the
power factor and eliminate the Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) drawn from a Non-Liner Diode Rectifier
Load (NLDRL). The compensation process is based on concept of p-q theory. A CHB Inverter is considered for
shunt compensation of a 11 kV distribution system. Finally a level shifted PWM (LSPWM) and phase shifted
PWM (PSPWM) techniques are adopted to investigate the performance of CHB Inverter. The results are
obtained through Matlab/Simulink software package.
This paper introduces the modelling of a novel three phase AC-AC converter with indirect use of a capacitor as DC voltage link. The proposed converter has high efficiency because it uses Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) technique at both rectificier and inverter stages to operate the pulse width modulation in IGBT switches. The novel converter is equipped with a power factor control to shape the rectifier input current waveform to be sinusoidal and to be in phase with the input voltage. To keep the DC voltage stable, the converter utilizes PI controllers. Simulations are conducted for output voltage from 120 to 300 Volts with output frequency ranging from 30 Hz to 60 Hz. The simulation results show that the converter is able to maintain stable the DC voltage and current. Furthermore, the model demonstrates the benefits of proposed converter in terms of acquiring high input power factor and sinusoidal current waveform at the output side of the inverter.
