United States Dollar
Lufthansa
Lufthansa
Lufthansa
In January 1985, a German company that uses Deutschmarks made a large purchase from a U.S.
company that uses U.S. dollars, and needed to evaluate the best hedging alternatives to secure the least
possible cost. The Chairman of Lufthansa, Herr Heinz Ruhnau, purchased twenty 737 jets from
Boeing. The total purchase price was $500,000,000, which was payable in U.S. dollars on delivery of
the aircrafts in one year.
Chairman Ruhnau chose a partial cover by hedging 50% of the exposure with forward contracts,
which was $250 million at the one year forward rate of DM3.2/$. He left the remaining 50% ($250
million) uncovered.
Due to this decision, Lufthansa paid DM225,000,000 more than if Ruhnau would have ... Show more

This steady rise showed the U.S. dollar was strong and would steadily increase or fluctuate around at a
similar number.
Scenario 3: The U.S. dollar may decrease
Even though Ruhnau and many others expected the U.S. dollar to decrease, there was no way of
knowing with absolute certainty that would come to fruition and how much it would actually fall.
Ruhnau needed to make a decision with the information he had.
Forecasting
There are various forecasting techniques, which include the Efficient Markets Approach, the
Fundamental Approach, and the Technical Approach. Even if Ruhnau researched and followed these
methods, they would still not predict with certainty the future U.S. dollar rate. They would either
confirm or counter his expectations and he would need to make a decision without being able to
accurately predict the future exchange rate. There are also other factors that could dramatically affect
the U.S. dollar or German Deutschmark, such as unexpected events which could make significant
impacts in appreciation or depreciation.
Necessity, Timing, and Purchase Price
In the 1980 s, Lufthansa increased the number of non stop connections and more dense route networks
(History). The aircraft purchase could have been necessary at this time because the aircrafts could be
used for expansion or growth. Potential sales from expansion opportunities of adding new flight
routes, additional flight time options, or other additional uses would be a

Ancient Egyptian Tombs
Abstract Studying ancient Egyptian tombs have long been an important source of information
regarding many aspects of Egyptian religion. Walls of New Kingdom tombs are often decorated with
plenty of painted religious scenes. While they were primarily private structures containing images
selected by the person who expected to be housed there for eternity, the funerary monuments also
reflect religious beliefs. While numerous researches focused on many of the religious scenes depicted
on the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs, no one focused on the knife holders scenes. Hence, the current
study focused on knife holders scenes depicted on the walls of both royal and private tombs dating
back to the New Kingdom at Thebes. The current study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Cleanliness And Cleanliness
Fourteen days into your cohabitating household joy, you may find that your accomplice s inclination
for leaving toothpaste spots in the sink each morning drives you up the wall.
They requested that each cohabitating respondent uncover on the off chance that they had solid
inclinations about certain home propensities the thought being that if more individuals have a solid
inclination about a propensity, it will probably motivate a contention between accomplices.
The main inclination is shutting the blinds and shades around evening time 85 percent of respondents
said that an accomplice s contradiction would be a major issue.
Home Advisor s study likewise uncovered more around one unavoidable issue that presumably
entered your thoughts in the event that you live with your accomplice: Is it men or ladies who tend to
be more clean?
More ladies said that they were disturbed by mess and unkempt things.
Men win the kitchen fight: Men will probably clean their grimy dishes immediately in the wake of
utilizing them.
To take in more about the outcomes, including geographic breakdowns of latrine seat and indoor
regulator inclinations, look at the full investigation on Home Advisor.

With regards to office cleanliness, men are frequently the ones blamed for having poor cleanliness and

Should Retail Investors Invest in Index Tracker Funds...
SHOULD RETAIL INVESTORS INVEST IN INDEX TRACKER FUNDS RATHER THAN
ACTIVELY MANAGED FUNDS?
Introduction:
This essay sets out to know which type of investment fund is better for a retail investor. By this, we
will consider the meaning and operations of an index tracker fund, as well as that of the actively
managed funds. Furthermore, identify the advantages of index tracker funds over actively managed
funds and draw conclusions in relation to the topic above.
What is an index? An index is a group of securities which gives reports of variations in the activities
of a stock market. For instance, these reports could be changes in monthly or annual returns or prices,
usually recorded in percentage. Index tracker fund managers track ... Show more content on

While in replication, index managers use the exact percentage which is in the target index. [Lionel

Actively managed (operations, advantages/disadvantages):
On the other hand, some portfolios do not represent a shareholders profit in a market. Such portfolios
are not based on market capitalization. Their aim is to give a different result from what the market has.
This is known as the actively managed fund strategy. Unlike the index tracker funds, the actively
managed fund manager is actively involved in the market. They may be able to detect when stocks are
over priced or under priced, hence, they may be able to pick out those stocks which yield the highest
dividends and invest in them. [Monevator the investor (2008)].
Actively managed fund managers believe their strategy produces greater performance compared to the
benchmark value (market value). Be that as it may, actively managed funds have risks because their
approach is regarded as gambling. This is because they buy stocks which they believe are undervalued
and sell stocks which are overvalued. The undervalued stocks may either yield higher returns, or,
those stocks may be underperforming stocks which will lead to loss. So therefore investing in an
actively managed fund is more or less like gambling with your resources, and so, the quality of your
outcome is based on such

No On Traveling To Mars
Since the beginning of time, people have been curious, and are always trying to explore. But now it is
2017, and we have to understand what we should do and what we shouldn t do. People today have a
good idea about the hazards of space travel and know the consequences space travel can have for
people. And after considering Andy Weir s statement regarding travel to Mars, I am of the opinion that
we as a nation should not fund a manned mission to Mars in the near future because it will be very
expensive, we have a larger need to explore places here on Earth, and it purposes a large danger to the
people traveling in space.
First, trying to fund a manned mission to Mars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

spinal fluid stops circulating. On voyages of more than a year, that could lead to blindness or

In conclusion, traveling to Mars may seem like a great idea, but it really isn t. After considering Andy

Power And Authority In Lord Of The Flies
Power and Authority shows, how those in charge act when having access to power. Golding s book
Lord of The Flies provides and analyzes. A well off theory of power and authority, in situations of
abuse of power; and how it influences one s moral actions. According to They differ.com , Power is
the personal ability of a person to control or influence other. Power does not come with rank or
designation; a person is either powerful or not. Authority is formal right to take decisions or making
commands. Authority refers to legitimacy and the justification, to exercise that power conformity to
law rules.

Noise in Electronic Communications Systems
An additive noise is characteristic of almost all communication systems. This additive noise typically
arises from thermal noise generated by random motion of electrons in the conductors comprising the
receiver. In a communication system the thermal noise having the greatest effect on system
performance is generated at and before the first stage of amplification. This point in a communication
system is where the desired signal takes the lowest power level and consequently the thermal noise
has the greatest impact on the performance. This characteristic is discussed in more detail in Chapter
10. This chapter s goal is to introduce the mathematical techniques used by communication system
engineers to characterize and predict the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It turns out that W(t) is accurately characterized as a stationary, Gaussian, and white random process.
Consequently, our first task is to define a random process (Section 9.1). The exposition of the
characteristics of a Gaussian random process (Section 9.2) and a stationary Gaussian random process
(Section 9.3) then will follow. A brief discussion of the characteristics of thermal noise is then
followed by an analysis of stationary random processes From this point forward in the text the
experimental outcome index will be dropped and random processes will be represented as N(t).
EXAMPLE 9.1 A particular random process is defined as N(t) = U exp[−|t|] + V (9.1) where U and V
are independent random variables. It is clear that with each sample value of the random variables U(ω)
and V (ω) there will be a time function N(t, ω). This example of a random process is not typical of a
noise process produced in real communication systems but it is an example process that proves
insightful as we develop tools to characterize noise in communications. EXAMPLE 9.2 A noise
generator and a lowpass filter are implemented in Matlab with a sample rate of 22,050 kHz. Recall
each time Matlab is run this is equivalent to a different experiment outcome, i.e., a different ω. A
sample path of the input noise to the filter, W(t), and a sample path at the output of the filter, N(t), is
shown in Figure 9.3 for a filter with a bandwidth of 2.5 kHz. It is

Golden State Warriors Research Papers
In the era of hot takes, comment sections and social media outbursts being used as methods to gain
attention, I can say from the bottom of my heart that none of those are the reasons I present my against
the grain opinion of the Golden State Warriors. If I m about to come off as a bitter Cleveland Cavaliers
fan (I am), then so be it. I m not so blinded by my love for Cleveland sports teams that I can t admit:
The Golden State Warriors are the best team in the NBA right now. That doesn t mean I can t hate

It became abundantly clear that I hated the Warriors more than Merril Hoge hates Johnny Manziel.
Because Steph Curry and Klay Thompson (not the entire Warriors team) are fun to watch, I think
Golden State is getting a hate pass. Is a hate pass a thing? A little more than a week ago, the
Milwaukee Bucks snapped Golden State s 28 game regular season win streak. As I basked in the tiny
moral victory, during a regular season in which the Cavs could finish .500 and I wouldn t care as long
as they were healthy, the Warriors whined like school children during a middle school recess touch
football game after the loss. The Warriors were upset with the Bucks celebration after Milwaukee
ended Golden State s record streak. Boohoo. The Warriors want to talk about winning with grace? Try
losing with grace. Regarding Curry, I ve never done a 180 degree turn on a player like I have with
Steph Curry. Davidson Steph Curry I loved that guy. He was an underdog and someone I could root
for. His play in two consecutive NCAA Tournaments was some of the most fun I ve had watching

Gout Is A Complex Metabolic Disease
Gout is a complex metabolic disease that presents itself in a form of arthritis that causes unexpected,
severe attacks of pain. In addition, men are more likely to get gout, but women become increasingly
susceptible to gout after menopause (Mayo Clinic Staff, n.d.). Generally, gout affects one joint at a
time and causes tenderness, redness, warmth, and swelling of the joint. However, it can be in several
joints. The big toe is most often affected, but gout can also affect other joints in the leg such as the
knee, ankle and foot and less often, the hand, wrist, fingers and elbow ( Arthritis and Gout, n.d.). An
attack of gout can occur suddenly, often waking you up in the middle of the night with the sensation
that the big toe is on fire. In fact, the joint is so tender that the mere weight of the sheet upon the
affected joint may seem intolerable. The prevalence of gout appears to be increasing. It is currently
estimated to affect over 6 million Americans (Shiel, Jr., M.D., FACP, FACR, 2015). There are three
different types of medical appearances of gout that vary in symptoms and treatment, they being
hyperuricemia, acute gout, and tophus gout. Hyperuricemia is an overproduction of uric acid and is
seen in the beginning stage of gout. In addition, peak incidences occur in patients 30 to 50 years old.
Patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia do not require treatment, but efforts should be made to
lower their urate levels by encouraging them to make changes in

The plot unfolds in Cartagena in the early twentieth century, at which time the signs of falling in love
could be confused with the symptoms of cholera. This love story of cholera takes place in a town in

cholera had wrought havoc on the health of the villagers, that terrible disease had caused many deaths
and anger was confused with the problems of love and sentiment. At the beginning of the work, it

Net Neutrality Rules
Net Neutrality Laws Investigation
Net neutrality became a big topic of debate in the United States last year. Net neutrality is the idea that
internet service providers (ISP s) should be giving access to all web traffic equally, without blocking
access or favouring certain websites. In the first quarter of 2014, the FCC began to propose rules that
would allow ISP s to have control over their consumers access, basically going against net neutrality.
After being ruled out, ISP s pleaded for the court to reappeal the case, which ended up ruling in favour
of the rules by the FCC. This issue is interesting to look at for the ways in which the media reports it,
because the majority of people are for equally accessed web traffic, but the media needs ... Show more

This article was written after the issue of net neutrality laws had been explored in court and ruled. This
is important to the piece because some biased could be skewed towards the law that has been passed.
This article does include the use of one visual. It is an image of the FCC chairman Tom Wheeler
during a net neutrality hearing. This may impact the reader in a way that veers them for or against the
FCC. People make a first impression within mere seconds of seeing someone. Depending on an
individual s response to seeing Tom Wheeler, the reader might make assumptions that cause them to
be for or against the topic before even beginning to read the article. Although this article does take
effect of a visual that may or may not show biased towards or against the topic at hand, it also uses a
serious tone. Not much biasedness can be seen throughout this article. It seems as though the author
has done his best job towards not giving any personal view on the topic and just presenting
information on the topic. It can however be noted that the tone of the article makes it seem as though
the topic is of great importance, using sentences such as The Federal Communications Commission s

Catholic Churches In The Middle Ages
Every king, queen, knight, serf, and soldier lived and died under the influence of the Catholic faith.
The Catholic Churches in Rome played a huge part in the Middle Ages because Catholic Churches
were the only churches in Europe during that period of time, they had large amounts of help from the
Popes, Bishops, Saints, and the Cardinals, as well as the formal structure of the church.
The Bishops and Archbishops were crucial part of the church. They were church leaders and they sat
on the king s council to make important decisions for their empire. The Bishops and Archbishops were
next only to the Cardinals, who would assist the Pope with a variety of needs. They were the sole
caretakers of everything related to the Roman Catholic Church. ... Show more content on

Separation Of Church And State
Separation of Church and State
The United States of America has its history written in religion. Religion and government are
important topics in almost every citizen s daily life. The act of extrication religion and politics has
been a complicated topic for many years. Because the United States of America has so many roots in
religion, many political figures prey on the religious beliefs in their civil duties as a public servant.
According to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, Throughout the nation s history, political
and social movements from abortion to women s suffrage to civil rights have drawn upon religious
institutions for moral authority, inspirational leadership and organizational muscle. The United States
has a long standing tradition of separating church and state but almost all politicians run on a
campaign that encompasses many religious ideals. According to Pew recent elections more than ever
have had religion deeply woven into the fabrics of politics. Religion has found its way into almost all
of the fabrics of our lives and has been leaking its way into one thing that was originally supposed to
be kept separate. This controversy even dates back to twenty three B.C and can be found deep in the
roots of the Roman Empire, can be found in the constitution, but for America to be a Land of the Free
, the practice of church and state intermingling must stop.
The idea of Church and State has roots dating thousands of years ago. The first

Electromyography
Electromyography (EMG) is a way of measuring muscle electrical activity and use it in medical
diagnoses which refers to muscle performance. The electric activity generated during muscle
activation, known as the myoelectric signal, is generated from small electrical currents generated by
the exchange of ions across the muscle membranes and detected with the help of surface electrodes
[1]. EMG make us generate force, create movements and allow us to do countless other functions
through which we can interact with the world around us. The EMG is a bioelectric signal which has,
over the years, developed a vast range of applications. Clinically, EMG is being used as diagnostic

While learning more and more about the American empire, I have come to a few conclusions, that
when the American empire makes a move it is carefully thought out and it so perfectly always ends up
the way they want. No matter the outcome it will always work out in their favor if they have military
force and control in business affairs. Also, the American empire does the same things repeatedly.
The United states tend to get involved in global affairs. Becoming almost a Hero for foreign counties

These two major changes alone are enough to make the Cubans want their own independent because
the smothering would have just been too much. I believe annexing Cuba would have been better for
America but not so great for the Cuban people. If the American empire already made deals and got
their agreements met they should have completely pulled out of Cuba to let the Cuba people do as
they wish. If the American empire would have done that Cuba would have had nothing negative to say
about America. They would be required to go to war with Spain. per president Theodore Roosevelt
this is a natural sugar and tobacco country and as we must, in any case, control its destinies, and will
probably soon own it. America was draining Cuba. However, if America would have annexed Cuba,
the Cuban people would have a lot of help with American education, public health and jobs. I believe
America could have made up their minds faster. If America wanted to help Cuba, they could have
done things for the Cubans that they need help with. Not just build a base and close trade with other
countries then leave and do nothing for the people of Cuba. It s like

Analysis Of The White Porch By Cathy Song
The poem The White Porch by Cathy Song is an illustration of maturity and coming of age. There is
an innocent tone to the beginning of the poem with sensual undertones as the writing progress s. In the
poem, a woman is reminiscing about her young womanhood as she sits on her porch awaiting her
presumed lover. Song creates the character of the woman to be of a homemaker, describing her duties
taking care of laundry, having a cake in the oven and snapping beans in her lap. Through the
visualization that Song creates it is assumed that the woman is pregnant, and as she is waiting for her
husband she thinks back to the things she herself used to do when she was younger with her own
mother. She is reflecting on the way her mother raised her thinking about how she wants to raise her
own child. The speaker admits to sneaking in her lover late at night behind her mother s back, but does
not seem to feel remorseful because all her decisions led to where she is in her life now. Cathy Songs
poem The White Porch portrays the transition of a girl into a woman using symbolism, imagery and
simile.
The use of symbolism is one of the main literary elements used in this poem. The speaker s long hair
is used as a representation of sexuality. Women are often viewed to be more desirable with longer hair.
Long hair it is also used to validate femininity and in earlier years also represented social status.
Throughout history, hair has been worn in a variety of ways often determined by the

The Florida Everglades Essay examples
THE EVERGLADES: RIVER OF GRASS
The Everglades, also known as the River of Grass, is one of South Florida s most treasured areas. It is
an area still full of wonder and mystery. The Everglades is lined with a specific type of limestone
bedrock formed by tiny organisms called byrozoans. These animals, though not related to coral, act
like coral by extracting dissolved limestone from the sea water around them and using it to construct
protective chambers in which to live. They then attach to various kinds of sea grasses on the ocean
floor and coat them as well. Individual chambers combine together to form rock like structures. Over
thousands of years, when South Florida was completely submerged, a vast amount of this limestone ...

Another important piece of the Everglades puzzle is periphyton (a cyanobacteria or algae) that
provides the basis for the Everglades food chain and helps purify the water. Periphyton provides both
food and oxygen for the aquatic ecosystem. Just like alligator holes, periphyton is also important
during the dry season because of their ability to retain water.
One hundred years ago the Everglades covered close to 4 million acres between Lake Okeechobee and
the Gulf of Mexico. Billions of gallons of water flowed into the Everglades. The population of the
East coast of Florida was 23,000. This was partially due to a lack of suitable land for housing because
of periodic flooding and the threat of hurricanes. When Florida was first becoming settled there were
many attempts by settlers to make the area more hospitable. Most of these attempts failed. It was after
two devastating hurricanes (1926 and 1928) that the Federal government had the US Army Corps of
Engineers create a system of canals, levies, and dikes to further development of that area. They
diverted much of the normal southward flow of water eastward. This allowed 1.3 million acres to be
developed. It also left 2 million acres for the Everglades National Park and water conservation areas. 1
million acres was left for agricultural use (Everglades Agricultural

The Rationality of an Irrational Mind
Introduction:
In written history, morality was first presented from the very first form of writing in Mesopotamia
where records were kept on clay tablets. From then, civilizations after civilization, moral texts were
kept in the form of the Code of Hammurabi, the Hindu Vedas, and the Bible. The list continues as
morality has spanned the entire history of philosophy. These texts all held inquiries into the nature and
origins of good persons and good societies (Haidt).
Today, social psychologist and other psychologist who study ethics and morals continue to try and

The Stories Of Isabel Allende
Isabel Allende was conceived on August 2, 1942, in Lima, Peru, to Tomás and Francisca Allende.
Isabel Allende is the goddaughter of Salvador Allende, the primary communist leader of Chile who
was her dad s cousin. Allende s dad was an ambassador and forsook the family when Allende was only
two years. Allende, her kin, and mom at that point moved in with her granddad in Chile. Allende
recollects herself as an insubordinate tyke amid those years living with her granddad. We lived in a
rich house with no cash, (Allende, Telegraph). My granddad would pay for what was vital yet my
mom did not have the money to get us a frozen yogurt. I needed to resemble my granddad in light of
the fact that my mom had a frightful life and he had every one of the benefits and the power and the
flexibility and the auto I believe that was the minute I began to defy all male expert: the police, the
congregation, everything. (Allende, Telegraph). This engaging state of mind that Allende has is
appeared in a large portion of her abstract work, for example, The Stories of Eva Luna, House of
Spirits, and Eva Luna. Allende experienced childhood in a climate where ladies were mediocre
compared to men and this is the reason Allende composes stories where the lady is solid and free. To
numerous perusers, Allende seems to be a women s activist and engaging creator in light of the fact
that the majority of Allende s work is about how ladies can prevail without the need of a man yet don t

The Creation Of The World Bank
The creation of The World Bank was an attempt to remedy the wealth disparities facing African
nations, and open new markets for international trade. Africa s economic stagnation calls for a shift in
paradigm, leaning towards sustained economic growth. It is only through the sustained growth of
these economies that the World Bank can claim success. This essay will assess the meaning of failed
development, effects of trade liberalization and the impact that multi national corporations have had
on African countries. Imposing neo liberalism on African nations has led to a lack of sustainable
development due to its ability to proliferate complex interdependency and exploitation. Failure in
development is a lack of sustained periods of economic growth and stability, and an increased
dependence on foreign aid. For example, forty five per cent of people in Sub Saharan Africa still
continue to live in poverty (About Sub Saharan Africa). Secondly, the inability to meet eight of the
Millennium Development Goals constitutes a failure in promoting development within the last fifteen
years (The Millennium Development Goals 2014). Furthermore, World Bank prescriptions have not
promoted sustained growth independent of foreign involvement by [raising] Southern output (Mosley
1949). The World Bank s measured ability to trigger sustained growth in developing countries has

Human Sexuality And Sexual Orientation
Few aspects of human behavior excite as much interest and controversy as sexual orientation. In
cultures and societies today, as well as in the past, there is usually an emphasis on a specific
orientation as a norm, and typically heterosexuality is perceived as such. This in turn generates a wide
range of reaction to homosexuality, from its being seen as unnatural in moral terms, to ideas of it as
threatening the stability of a culture. In recent years, however, new perspectives are emerging which
strongly support that sexual orientation is by no means so easily defined, and that, when social
parameters on sexual behaviors are set aside, the reality is that most people are not strictly
heterosexual or homosexual. In the following, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Europe and the Americas, certainly, centuries of Christianity as the dominant faith have vastly
influenced thinking based on the conviction that homosexuality is both unnatural and sinful. This is,
moreover, true of all Christian denominations, from the Roman Catholic to the Anglican and
Episcopalian. Both in past eras and modern times, for example, Anglican and Protestant scholars
consistently cite homosexuality as an aberration and a violation of God s will. It is held as an
orientation that dangerously threatens orthodoxy by ignoring the tenets of the Bible (Sachs, 2009, p.
20). Not surprisingly, Roman Catholic views are at least equally as strong, and what has long
developed in Western cultures is a widespread social condemnation of homosexuality which, as faith
provides a groundwork for civil and legal matters, then become embedded in the societies. In plain
terms, there has been an historic and consistent rejection of homosexuality as deviant, contrary to
Christian morality, and unhealthy for both individual and society. The above considered, it then cannot
be overstated how faith based thinking has greatly influenced social customs and virtually dictated
cultural imperatives regarding sexual orientation. It is in fact arguable that many who denounce
homosexuality are by no means devoutly religious; rather, the sheer force of mainstream

Abstract
Albert Bandura is one of the pioneers in the study of human development. His biographical
background lays a good foundation for the basis of his work as a psychologist. His social cognitive
theory will be examined in detail to highlight the effect that environment has on behavior. There are
four basic features to the theory introduced by Bandura that will be discussed; (1) observational
learning, (2) self regulation, (3) self efficacy, and (4) reciprocal determinism. All four features
combined will prove to offer a keen insight into the environmental aspect of our behavior.

Sects Vs Cults
There are different types of groups that you can branch off of your religion, there are sects and cults. A
sect is a group of people with some different religious beliefs from the group larger to where they
actually belong, like a Church. A Cult is usually a small group of people who have religious beliefs
and practices observed by others as bizarre. A cult is founded by a powerful leader also known as a
charismatic. Sects have a high degree of pressure with the surrounding society unlike churches.
Sect determines from the Latin word secta which is characterized as school of thought . It too comes
from the English dialect from the Old French secte which is alluded to as a particular framework of
convictions. While a cult is a completely different interpretation. Cult comes from a Latin word cultus
which implies labor, adore, veneration, or culture . It too entered the English dialect through the

Fifth through eighth beat repeat previous four mirroring the direction, leader does what the follower
did and vice versa
Now let s find the center of mass in the x direction at the pause in this step.
The equation for the center of mass in the x direction is xcm=(Mx1+ mx2)/(M+m) where M is the
mass of the leader, m is the mass of the follower, x1 is the position of the leader, and x2 is the position
of the follower.
Turn
The turn starts off with the follower and the leader side by side and hands crossed. The leader pulls the
follower so that she is facing him.
Let us find the amount of work done by the system when defining the dancers as particles. The
diameter will be defined as the length from the outer edge of one dancer to the outer edge of the other
dancer. M will stand for the leader s mass and m will be used for the follower s mass. w will be the
angular velocity, I will be the moment of inertia, and r is radius.
To find the work you must subtract the intial kinetic energy from the final kinetic energy. The equation
for rotational kinetic energy is: Iw2. The equation for the moment of inertia for particles is: (M+m)r2
So calculating this gives you:{[(M+m)final radius2]final w2}

The Life Of Ancient Egyptian Religion
The concept of the eternal life in traditional Egypt is associated with the sun that always rose up to
give renewal and vigor on a daily basis. Ancient Egyptians considered the afterlife as an ideal
dimension in its peace, delight, and bliss. There were no hardships, rivalry or any negative emotions in
the spiritual realm. The dimension was referred to commonly as the Field of Offerings or the Field of
Rushes. The heavenly place was complete with its own version of the river Nile and was composed of
two fields. The Egyptians society saw it possible to attain the peace given in the afterlife if they led an
earthly religious life. The next life was eternal in nature. Ancient Egyptians employed two religious
criteria to structure their belief in the afterlife. The beliefs were centered on godly myths and the
spiritual connection between the body and the soul. One of the major elements in traditional Egyptian
religion was their worship and belief in a variety of gods and goddesses. Each of the deities had their
particular power, relevance and function in the ancient religion. The spirit world was associated with
the god Ra, who was the deity with the duty of ruling the dimension. According to McKay, Ra was
responsible for choosing individuals who were eligible for traveling in his boat across the spirit river
Nile into the land of the two fields . According to the religion, only Pharaohs had automatic passage to
Ra s boat ride into the land of the two fields. God Osiris, one

Motherhood
The story To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee takes place in a fictional town of Maycomb,
Alabama, this is based on Lee s hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. In the story Calpurnia is the
maid for the Finch family, because in the 1930 s it was still common for negroes to work as house
servants for low pay and little respect. Calpurnia is the only present female figure in the Finch
household, which in a sense makes her the mother to Scout and Jem. Atticus and Calpurnia are both
parents to the children, but Calpurnia is more of a stickler especially since she has already had
children of her own. Cal embraces her second motherhood to do the best possible job at hoping she
can make a difference in their lives which was not present with her biological children. In the story
Scout and Calpurnia share many parallels with a mother and daughter. For instance, She was always
ordering me out of the kitchen, asking me why I couldn t behave as well as Jem when she knew he
was older, and calling me home when I wasn t ready to come (Lee 6). This shares many similarities
with the epic battles that mothers and children face through raising their children and growing up,

Geroge Orwell Essay
Geroge Orwell
One of the things Orwell bequeathed us was the adjective Orwellian .... It is a frightening word,
generally applied to a society organized to crush and dehumanize the individual, sometimes signifying
the alienation of that individual if he dares to rebel (Lewis 13). George Orwell, the pseudonym for
Eric Arthur Blair, depicted the importance of the individual in society and the danger of too much
community in his literature. Through his personal experiences, however, he explored the ideas of
socialism and was torn between the individual and community ideals. In his literature and his past,
Orwell spoke against movements that remove the individual, but still emphasized the importance of
community. Thus, he advocated a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He enjoyed the idea that everybody was equal, but he still showed resentment towards it. His inner
conflict between these two ideas and his experiences as a member in the Spanish Civil War caused
him to choose a median between the community ideals which he saw and the individual ideals which
he missed: I have seen wonderful things and at last really believe in socialism, which I never did
before (qtd. in Chen).
With the start of World War II, George Orwell began his fight against Nazism, fascism, and
communism. In the eyes of many, communism became interchangeable with socialism, and he
criticized writers of his time that were in support of Stalin and his socialist movement: Why should
writers be attracted by a form of Socialism that makes mental honesty impossible (qtd. in Lewis 76)?
In an attempt to pacify the radical communist movements and change imperialism, he spoke of a third
method to reform the British Empire a middle ground that would create a socialist community in
Britain. John Newsinger wrote, [He had a] call for a new socialist movement that would reject both
Communist style revolution and Labour Party reformism in favour of a third way to socialism, a third
way that he continued to call revolutionary but that was adapted to modern conditions (qtd. in Chen).
Through this, one can see that Orwell wanted to avoid such movements as communism, which
attempted to obtain control over the individual, and yet he had a need to preserve the

The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Tom Ripley is a talented imitator, it seems the only person Tom cannot quite comprehend is himself.
Ripley isolates himself from people by being non isolated, he finds himself in very social situations,
yet he does not quite understand how one should be in social interactions. However people find
themselves attracted to him because he is so great at acting and reading people and learning how to
manipulate them into believing that he is not actually socially alienated, he somehow becomes the life

his characters that he was putting on. In the film it starts with him playing the piano at a wedding

character from Princeton. Tom had been very friendly last summer with a Princeton junior who had
talked of nothing but Princeton, so that Tom had finally pumped him for more and more, foreseeing a
time when he might be able to use the information (Highsmith, 21). Ripley was always remembering
information from different people he met assuming that if need be he could pull out that information
in sticky situations. One thing about Tom Ripley was that he found himself in sticky situations more
often then some, this left him feeling paranoid that people were after him at all times. This is no way
to live life, especially when the way you want to live your life is behind the curtains.

New York City Draft Riots
On July 13, 1863, the streets of New York City were ablaze. People ran rampant without a care of the
well being of anyone else; mutilating bodies, robbing people, and setting buildings on fire. Children
were rushed to safety from the bloodthirsty mobs. These were the New York City Draft Riots of 1863,
and colored and rich people weren t safe from the protests that the poor and working class had against
the highly controversial draft (Bernstein 34). These violent riots had to be stopped, and someone had
to come up with an idea to put the crowds at rest. The New York City Draft Riots of 1863 were
stopped when the Union government decided to compromise by stopping the draft and not receiving
more troops for the civil war.
The Draft Riots began on July 13 of 1863 and lasted for five days (Amato and Meisel). The civil war
was taking place and the Battle of Gettysburg was ending. Hopes for a Union victory were
skyrocketing like never before and the brave soldiers were heading home. Slavery also seemed to only
be a temporary thing, with so many African Americans arriving free into the north (Lighthizer). Many
things had gone wrong in the past, including battles and race issues. The future seemed so bright for
nearly everyone in New York City, and something seemed so clear; things were finally getting better
for so many people. Unfortunately for the happy people, it wouldn t remain that way for long.
Racism, fuelled by anger, during that time was at a towering peak. African

Technology In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark
Are we the monsters of our own making? Does our development of technology outway our ability to
maintain it or deal with its consequences?
In the 2st century humanity relies on technology and medicine too much. Our lives can t be imagined
without it, it has become a part of our everyday lives. But what is enough or too much? Taking a pill
of vitamin C every day or taking 10 vitamins and supplements of every kind every morning?
Checking your emails once a day or waking up and reaching for your smartphone immediately? Do
we still have the control or does it control us?
Technology is part of our lives; or is our life, and it has too much of an effect on everything. The
internet started out as an amazing experiment, now it became this enormous ... Show more content on

Kurt Vonnegut s novel, the Fortitude is almost a grotesque parody of modern medicine, where an old
lady s head is attached to machines, her organs are controlled by machines, her limbs are controlled by
machines, even her mood is controlled by Dr. Frankenstein, her doctor. The doctor s name itself can be
viewed as a foreshadowing of his character, there is a comparison between him and his namesake,
referring either to that he is a modern monster, controlling an old lady, not giving her the option to
make decisions about her own life the arm are designed so she can t possibly point a gun at herself or
get poison to her lips, no matter how she tries , or to that he created a monster, this lady who is not
living in the real meaning of the word, she has no control over her body. This novel gives a real image
of the power of modern medicine, the idea that the patient is not in

Yusef Komunyakaa Memorial
What is the monument really reflecting?
In the poem facing it by Yusef Komunyakaa memorial may be more impacting than the monument
itself. The memorial was designed by Maya Lin a student at Yale. She called the design the
architecture of design. This memorial anticipated an effect on the veterans everywhere, and had a
unique impact on the poet Yusef Komunyakaa himself. He found his first introduction to poems
through his grandparents reading the old testimate, which sparked his interest for poetry. Later, he
served in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970 as newspaper editor. A year after that the memorial was
built, and he confronted his feelings along with the legacy of the Vietnam War and how race plays a
big role into the war. As racism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the poet is trying to keep composure and solid by reminding himself that he is stone takes a turn to
the idea that he doesn t want to be reminded that he is mortal or fragile, weak. Instead he feels as if he
is trapped inside the memorial and can t escape he is not only seeing the present but seeing the past.
We can see that yusefs first visit to the memorial was obviously a tragedy for his emotions. Each of the
names revealed in the memorial signify all the piesces that summed up his experience in the war. in
the memorial I turn this way the stone lets me go. I turn that way I m inside the Vietnam Veterans

Analysis Of Jane Hirshfield s Poem Tree
Jane Hirshfield connects to nature at her home in Marin County, California this is where she gets her
inspiration for her poems. Hirshfield published Tree in 2000 as a free verse poem, divided into 4
stanzas and 4 sentences to convey the nature world. The poem represents a young redwood (line 2)
growing near a house, near a kitchen window. The redwood is already scraping against the window
frame of the house, reminding the reader of the foolish (line 1) idea of letting it grow there. Humans
were created to be one with nature, but as they evolved as a species, they were obligated to choose
between the materialistic world or the world of nature. Hirshfield writes this poem in second person to
give life to the poem so that the poem speaks to the reader. The poem starts by accusing the reader of
letting the redwood grow near the house. It is foolish (line 1) lets the reader know that nature should
not be growing this close to your home. Hirshfield takes the liberty to talk straight to the reader
through the speaker in telling them that it is nonsense to let nature be so close to a material object such
as a house. The reader can visually see a young redwood// grow next to a house (line 2, 3). The tree
starts to symbolize the beauty of nature growing against the materialistic world. A new sentence leads
into the second stanza to introduce a new idea; it shifts the attention of the poem from the imagery of
the redwood growing against the house to the shortness of the

Universities Can Best Be Viewed As Corporations
Universities can best be viewed as corporations. Corporations are simply businesses. The only reason
for a business to exist is to make a profit. In order to make a profit, universities sell a variety of
degrees to students. Students desire a degree because they want the credentials that will help them get
ahead (Edmundson). In some cases, students want that certificate that will give them access to Wall
Street, or entrance into law or medical or business school (Edmundson). The students desire for
power, money, and success drive them to attend college. The students have an abundance of
universities to choose from. In order for the universities to earn money, they must use techniques to
attract students. This can be accomplished in a few ways. Advertising is one approach that allows the
universities to manipulate students into believing their school is the best. Eastern Michigan University
has achieved these manipulation techniques in their ad. The ad has three main features. On the left
side, there is a picture of a young female smiling. This picture of the young female covers half of the
ad. The left side features three text boxes. The first text box is dark green with white text and covers
three fourths of the second half. The text includes information about degrees offered, student to
professor ratio, student organizations, percentage of students who find a job after graduation, and a
website and phone number to contact Eastern Michigan University. The second text

Los Alamos Interview Essay
Beginning in 1943, the hilltop mesa of Los Alamos began its transformation from a quiet landscape
for homesteaders and Ashley Pounds boy school, into a bustling community for the Manhattan
Project. Resident of Los Alamos County for seventy one and a half years Roger Rasmussen can attest
to the transformations, changes, and what life was life was like in Los Alamos as the small laboratory
grew into the thriving community that we know today. Born in North Central Mason City, Iowa Roger
and his family would live here until he was six years old. Upon, turning six many changes began to
take place in Roger s life. The moving from Iowa to Illinois would prove to be a pivotal change in
Roger s life as his father, who worked in engineering, would be transferred by the company that he
was working for. Shortly after arriving in Illinois his family would move to Chicago. It was here
during his high school days that he would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had a good idea of what was going on, he said in relation to the Manhattan Project. The idea of the

future wife, Jane who worked with the Women s Army Corp (WAC). Jane had been assigned to Los
Alamos to work with telephone communications. I was 24, a buddy of mine told her that I was
married, I had to really work hard after that to get her attention, but I met Jane out in the street, that s
where we courted as well, there was no other place to go. In 1945, Roger and Jane married and went
to work on creating a family together. After the conclusion of the Manhattan Project, how to handle
the laboratory s future became an important question. That s when Bradbury went into high gear,
Roger stated, which he followed by
saying, I left the army in 46 , I was discharged at Fort Bliss, I came back the same day. Requested by
the laboratory to do so, Roger returned to Los

Body Dysmorphic Disorder Analysis
The popular conception of anorexia involves glamorous celebrities and supermodels, teen girls and
magazines, and is nothing like the reality of hospitals, hair loss, and, oftentimes, death. Anorexia
nervosa is the deadliest of all psychiatric illnesses and cuts across racial, age, and gender backgrounds.
The image of the white teen girl munching on ice cubes is only part of the picture of a serious,
complex, and very misunderstood disorder. When I was in high school, my best friend Kylie* changed
drastically. Her sense of style shifted and she started wearing brightly colored sweatshirts and hair
extensions. She also got her driver s license before the rest of us and would get lunch off campus,
bringing my friends and I back milkshakes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This notion, however, has been viewed as more antiquated in recent years, and the etiological
perception of the disorder has become a lot more nuanced. An individual s environment and social
status are perhaps more revealing risk factors than race and gender themselves. Social communities
that value thinness, such as career fields like modeling and wrestling, are specific causal factors. Peer
and family influences also contribute a great deal to disordered eating patterns. A mother obsessed
with beauty can enforce a social expectation for thinness even more completely. Changing standards
of beauty, from a Rubenesque Venus to a waifish Twiggy, have also been cited as causal factors. The
idea that society causes anorexia is powerful, but much to simplistic to fully explain the steady
increase in cases of anorexia throughout the 20th

  • 2. United States Dollar Lufthansa Lufthansa Lufthansa In January 1985, a German company that uses Deutschmarks made a large purchase from a U.S. company that uses U.S. dollars, and needed to evaluate the best hedging alternatives to secure the least possible cost. The Chairman of Lufthansa, Herr Heinz Ruhnau, purchased twenty 737 jets from Boeing. The total purchase price was $500,000,000, which was payable in U.S. dollars on delivery of the aircrafts in one year. Chairman Ruhnau chose a partial cover by hedging 50% of the exposure with forward contracts, which was $250 million at the one year forward rate of DM3.2/$. He left the remaining 50% ($250 million) uncovered. Due to this decision, Lufthansa paid DM225,000,000 more than if Ruhnau would have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This steady rise showed the U.S. dollar was strong and would steadily increase or fluctuate around at a similar number. Scenario 3: The U.S. dollar may decrease Even though Ruhnau and many others expected the U.S. dollar to decrease, there was no way of knowing with absolute certainty that would come to fruition and how much it would actually fall. Ruhnau needed to make a decision with the information he had. Forecasting There are various forecasting techniques, which include the Efficient Markets Approach, the Fundamental Approach, and the Technical Approach. Even if Ruhnau researched and followed these methods, they would still not predict with certainty the future U.S. dollar rate. They would either confirm or counter his expectations and he would need to make a decision without being able to accurately predict the future exchange rate. There are also other factors that could dramatically affect the U.S. dollar or German Deutschmark, such as unexpected events which could make significant impacts in appreciation or depreciation. Necessity, Timing, and Purchase Price In the 1980 s, Lufthansa increased the number of non stop connections and more dense route networks (History). The aircraft purchase could have been necessary at this time because the aircrafts could be used for expansion or growth. Walls of New Kingdom tombs are often decorated with plenty of painted religious scenes. Such portfolios are not based on market capitalization. Their aim is to give a different result from what the market has. This is known as the actively managed fund strategy. They may be able to detect when stocks are over priced or under priced, hence, they may be able to pick out those stocks which yield the highest dividends and invest in them. [Monevator the investor (2008)]. Actively managed fund managers believe their strategy produces greater performance compared to the benchmark value (market value). Be that as it may, actively managed funds have risks because their approach is regarded as gambling. This is because they buy stocks which they believe are undervalued and sell stocks which are overvalued. The undervalued stocks may either yield higher returns, or, those stocks may be underperforming stocks which will lead to loss. This additive noise typically arises from thermal noise generated by random motion of electrons in the conductors comprising the receiver. In a communication system the thermal noise having the greatest effect on system performance is generated at and before the first stage of amplification. This point in a communication system is where the desired signal takes the lowest power level and consequently the thermal noise has the greatest impact on the performance. This characteristic is discussed in more detail in Chapter 10. It turns out that W(t) is accurately characterized as a stationary, Gaussian, and white random process. Consequently, our first task is to define a random process (Section 9.1). The exposition of the characteristics of a Gaussian random process (Section 9.2) and a stationary Gaussian random process (Section 9.3) then will follow. A brief discussion of the characteristics of thermal noise is then followed by an analysis of stationary random processes From this point forward in the text the experimental outcome index will be dropped and random processes will be represented as N(t). EXAMPLE 9.1 A particular random process is defined as N(t) = U exp[−|t|] + V (9.1) where U and V are independent random variables. It is clear that with each sample value of the random variables U(ω) and V (ω) there will be a time function N(t, ω). This example of a random process is not typical of a noise process produced in real communication systems but it is an example process that proves insightful as we develop tools to characterize noise in communications. In addition, men are more likely to get gout, but women become increasingly susceptible to gout after menopause (Mayo Clinic Staff, n.d.). Generally, gout affects one joint at a time and causes tenderness, redness, warmth, and swelling of the joint. However, it can be in several joints. The big toe is most often affected, but gout can also affect other joints in the leg such as the knee, ankle and foot and less often, the hand, wrist, fingers and elbow ( Arthritis and Gout, n.d.). An attack of gout can occur suddenly, often waking you up in the middle of the night with the sensation that the big toe is on fire. In fact, the joint is so tender that the mere weight of the sheet upon the affected joint may seem intolerable. The prevalence of gout appears to be increasing. It is currently estimated to affect over 6 million Americans (Shiel, Jr., M.D., FACP, FACR, 2015). There are three different types of medical appearances of gout that vary in symptoms and treatment, they being hyperuricemia, acute gout, and tophus gout. Periphyton provides both food and oxygen for the aquatic ecosystem. Just like alligator holes, periphyton is also important during the dry season because of their ability to retain water. One hundred years ago the Everglades covered close to 4 million acres between Lake Okeechobee and the Gulf of Mexico. Billions of gallons of water flowed into the Everglades. The population of the East coast of Florida was 23,000. This was partially due to a lack of suitable land for housing because of periodic flooding and the threat of hurricanes. When Florida was first becoming settled there were many attempts by settlers to make the area more hospitable. Most of these attempts failed. It was after two devastating hurricanes (1926 and 1928) that the Federal government had the US Army Corps of Engineers create a system of canals, levies, and dikes to further development of that area. They diverted much of the normal southward flow of water eastward. This allowed 1.3 million acres to be developed. It also left 2 million acres for the Everglades National Park and water conservation areas. 1 million acres was left for agricultural use (Everglades Agricultural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Africa s economic stagnation calls for a shift in paradigm, leaning towards sustained economic growth. It is only through the sustained growth of these economies that the World Bank can claim success. This essay will assess the meaning of failed development, effects of trade liberalization and the impact that multi national corporations have had on African countries. Imposing neo liberalism on African nations has led to a lack of sustainable development due to its ability to proliferate complex interdependency and exploitation. Failure in development is a lack of sustained periods of economic growth and stability, and an increased dependence on foreign aid. For example, forty five per cent of people in Sub Saharan Africa still continue to live in poverty (About Sub Saharan Africa). Secondly, the inability to meet eight of the Millennium Development Goals constitutes a failure in promoting development within the last fifteen years (The Millennium Development Goals 2014). In cultures and societies today, as well as in the past, there is usually an emphasis on a specific orientation as a norm, and typically heterosexuality is perceived as such. This in turn generates a wide range of reaction to homosexuality, from its being seen as unnatural in moral terms, to ideas of it as threatening the stability of a culture. In recent years, however, new perspectives are emerging which strongly support that sexual orientation is by no means so easily defined, and that, when social parameters on sexual behaviors are set aside, the reality is that most people are not strictly heterosexual or homosexual. In the following, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Europe and the Americas, certainly, centuries of Christianity as the dominant faith have vastly influenced thinking based on the conviction that homosexuality is both unnatural and sinful. This is, moreover, true of all Christian denominations, from the Roman Catholic to the Anglican and Episcopalian. Both in past eras and modern times, for example, Anglican and Protestant scholars consistently cite homosexuality as an aberration and a violation of God s will. It is held as an orientation that dangerously threatens orthodoxy by ignoring the tenets of the Bible (Sachs, 2009, p. 20). Not surprisingly, Roman Catholic views are at least equally as strong, and what has long developed in Western cultures is a widespread social condemnation of homosexuality which, as faith provides a groundwork for civil and legal matters, then become embedded in the societies. In plain terms, there has been an historic and consistent rejection of homosexuality as deviant, contrary to Christian morality, and unhealthy for both individual and society. The above considered, it then cannot be overstated how faith based thinking has greatly influenced social customs and virtually dictated cultural imperatives regarding sexual orientation. Ancient Egyptians considered the afterlife as an ideal dimension in its peace, delight, and bliss. There were no hardships, rivalry or any negative emotions in the spiritual realm. The dimension was referred to commonly as the Field of Offerings or the Field of Rushes. The heavenly place was complete with its own version of the river Nile and was composed of two fields. The Egyptians society saw it possible to attain the peace given in the afterlife if they led an earthly religious life. The next life was eternal in nature. Ancient Egyptians employed two religious criteria to structure their belief in the afterlife. The beliefs were centered on godly myths and the spiritual connection between the body and the soul. One of the major elements in traditional Egyptian religion was their worship and belief in a variety of gods and goddesses. Each of the deities had their particular power, relevance and function in the ancient religion. In the story Calpurnia is the maid for the Finch family, because in the 1930 s it was still common for negroes to work as house servants for low pay and little respect. Calpurnia is the only present female figure in the Finch household, which in a sense makes her the mother to Scout and Jem. With the start of World War II, George Orwell began his fight against Nazism, fascism, and communism. In the eyes of many, communism became interchangeable with socialism, and he criticized writers of his time that were in support of Stalin and his socialist movement: Why should writers be attracted by a form of Socialism that makes mental honesty impossible (qtd. in Lewis 76)? In an attempt to pacify the radical communist movements and change imperialism, he spoke of a third method to reform the British Empire a middle ground that would create a socialist community in Britain. John Newsinger wrote, [He had a] call for a new socialist movement that would reject both Communist style revolution and Labour Party reformism in favour of a third way to socialism, a third way that he continued to call revolutionary but that was adapted to modern conditions (qtd. in Chen). However people find themselves attracted to him because he is so great at acting and reading people and learning how to manipulate them into believing that he is not actually socially alienated, he somehow becomes the life of the party. Tom had been very friendly last summer with a Princeton junior who had talked of nothing but Princeton, so that Tom had finally pumped him for more and more, foreseeing a time when he might be able to use the information (Highsmith, 21). The memorial was designed by Maya Lin a student at Yale. She called the design the architecture of design. This memorial anticipated an effect on the veterans everywhere, and had a unique impact on the poet Yusef Komunyakaa himself. He found his first introduction to poems through his grandparents reading the old testimate, which sparked his interest for poetry. Later, he served in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970 as newspaper editor. • 50. Analysis Of Jane Hirshfield s Poem Tree Jane Hirshfield connects to nature at her home in Marin County, California this is where she gets her inspiration for her poems. Hirshfield published Tree in 2000 as a free verse poem, divided into 4 stanzas and 4 sentences to convey the nature world. The poem represents a young redwood (line 2) growing near a house, near a kitchen window. The redwood is already scraping against the window frame of the house, reminding the reader of the foolish (line 1) idea of letting it grow there. Humans were created to be one with nature, but as they evolved as a species, they were obligated to choose between the materialistic world or the world of nature. Hirshfield writes this poem in second person to give life to the poem so that the poem speaks to the reader. The poem starts by accusing the reader of letting the redwood grow near the house. It is foolish (line 1) lets the reader know that nature should not be growing this close to your home. Hirshfield takes the liberty to talk straight to the reader through the speaker in telling them that it is nonsense to let nature be so close to a material object such as a house. The reader can visually see a young redwood// grow next to a house (line 2, 3). The tree starts to symbolize the beauty of nature growing against the materialistic world. A new sentence leads into the second stanza to introduce a new idea; it shifts the attention of the poem from the imagery of the redwood growing against the house to the shortness of the ... • 51. Universities Can Best Be Viewed As Corporations Universities can best be viewed as corporations. Corporations are simply businesses. The only reason for a business to exist is to make a profit. In order to make a profit, universities sell a variety of degrees to students. Students desire a degree because they want the credentials that will help them get ahead (Edmundson). In some cases, students want that certificate that will give them access to Wall Street, or entrance into law or medical or business school (Edmundson). The students desire for power, money, and success drive them to attend college. The students have an abundance of universities to choose from. In order for the universities to earn money, they must use techniques to attract students. This can be accomplished in a few ways. Advertising is one approach that allows the universities to manipulate students into believing their school is the best. Eastern Michigan University has achieved these manipulation techniques in their ad. The ad has three main features. On the left side, there is a picture of a young female smiling. This picture of the young female covers half of the ad. The left side features three text boxes. The first text box is dark green with white text and covers three fourths of the second half. The text includes information about degrees offered, student to professor ratio, student organizations, percentage of students who find a job after graduation, and a website and phone number to contact Eastern Michigan University. The second text ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Body Dysmorphic Disorder Analysis The popular conception of anorexia involves glamorous celebrities and supermodels, teen girls and magazines, and is nothing like the reality of hospitals, hair loss, and, oftentimes, death. Anorexia nervosa is the deadliest of all psychiatric illnesses and cuts across racial, age, and gender backgrounds. The image of the white teen girl munching on ice cubes is only part of the picture of a serious, complex, and very misunderstood disorder. When I was in high school, my best friend Kylie* changed drastically. Her sense of style shifted and she started wearing brightly colored sweatshirts and hair extensions. She also got her driver s license before the rest of us and would get lunch off campus, bringing my friends and I back milkshakes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This notion, however, has been viewed as more antiquated in recent years, and the etiological perception of the disorder has become a lot more nuanced. An individual s environment and social status are perhaps more revealing risk factors than race and gender themselves. Social communities that value thinness, such as career fields like modeling and wrestling, are specific causal factors. Peer and family influences also contribute a great deal to disordered eating patterns. A mother obsessed with beauty can enforce a social expectation for thinness even more completely. Changing standards of beauty, from a Rubenesque Venus to a waifish Twiggy, have also been cited as causal factors. The idea that society causes anorexia is powerful, but much to simplistic to fully explain the steady increase in cases of anorexia throughout the 20th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
