Villa Rica Christian Church
On the fifth of February, I went to my church, Villa Rica Christian Church. In my church, there is a
nursery for kids ranging from birth to two. The first toy was a rectangular box that has shaped holes
on the lid. On the lid, there are four shapes triangle, square, star, and circle. The second toy, is a panel
with four different popups of Sesame Street characters. To trigger the popup, a kid has to either turn,
press, or push a button. The third toy is a child like abacus with five rows of beads that vary by colors
red, yellow, blue, green, and orange.
In the nursery, I examined toys aimed at the sensorimotor stage of cognitive development. This stage
includes actions based on reflexes and the transition to actions based on intentions. Actions that are
satisfying are repeated by the child through a process called primary circular reactions. Soon after this
first stage, the child moves on to the secondary circular reactions or actions that have an effect on the
environment. After experiencing both of these kind of reactions, the child then advances into more
intentional actions. The child begins to have goal directed behavior and curiosity which leads to
experimenting. Lastly, the child will begin to understand symbolic problem solving and object
permanence.
The first toy has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, toys that are too difficult for the child to solve or understand may cause frustration. This
frustration may motivate some kids to continue or cause the majority to abandon the toy. Most
importantly, toys need to provide an avenue through which the child can become exposed or practice
the skills in their stage of development. For kids ranging from birth to two, toys need to help them
practice primary, secondary, and tertiary circular reactions, as well as goal directed behavior and
eventually object

Private Property In John Locke s Social Contract
In his social contract, Locke also specified the purpose of a legitimate government and clarified how a
legitimate government can exercise authority. Aside from providing security and addressing
inconveniences found in the state of nature, Locke argued that the purpose of government is to protect
people s private property. Property is a profound component of Locke s social contract as it is tangible
and gives people more autonomy over their lives. According to
Locke, property becomes private once man adds his labor to public property. As the man improved the
public property in some manner, he can officially lay his claim to it. Owning property allows people to
improve their living conditions and can empower strong economic actors. Locke

Foreign Exchange Risk Management
REVIEW 1 The survey of foreign currency risk awareness and management practices in Tanzania
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Foreign exchange risk management
Foreign currency exchange risk is the additional riskiness or varience of a firm s cash flows that may
be attributed to currency fluctuations (Giddy, 1977, Brigham and Ehrhardt, 2005). Normally, foreign
currency risk exists in three forms; translation, transaction and economic exposures.
Foreign currency risk management involves taking decisions which aim at minimizing or eliminating
the negative effects of currency fluctuations on balance sheet and income statement values, a firm s
receipts and payments arising out of current transactions, and on long term future cash flows of a firm.

Using a unique set of data containing complete foreign currency spot and derivatives positions of
Korean exporting firms, we empirically find that currency position squaring firms have significantly
higher firm value. We also find evidence that these firms time the currency market when they manage
their currency cash position. Meanwhile, firms time the credit market when they determine the use of
foreign currency debts. Strikingly, firms still time the market even when they conduct derivatives
hedging and synthetic hedging. Our findings are consistent with the market timing theory of capital
structure.
The second essay examines what determines banks‟ exposure to foreign currency risks, their
management of these risks, and the relationship to the probability of bank failures. Using a unique
data set of Korean banks with detailed information on their foreign currency risk exposures and
hedging positions, we find that banks‟ foreign currency position mismatches, maturity mismatches,
and debt roll over risks are significantly attributed to their dollar carry lending strategy, which is
stimulated by market timing of corporate firms, short maturity dollar borrowings, real estate market
booms, and dollar interest rate tightening. We also find that banks‟ foreign currency exposures
significantly increase their financial distress likelihood through dollar carry

Research Paper On Woodman s Surfing
It all started in 2002 when Nick Woodman he wanted to capture his adventures while he went on his
surf trip around the coasts of Australia and Indonesia. He realized that there are no cameras that could
capture everything, especially the moments while he was surfing. When the pictures are taken ashore,
the barrels look different then they look when you are in the middle of one. He desire for a camera that
could capture the professional, undiscovered footage that makes you feel like a HERO. Therefore he
developed a wristband holding the waterproof camera against his arm so he could videotape himself
while he was surfing and share his surfing exploits with his friends. The initial motive of this
invention was created only for personal use for Woodman s traveling. However, when Woodman
returned to California with the seed of an idea, he realized that many surfers would actually appreciate
this invention and it was conclusively a good business opportunity. Woodman was for two years
visiting trade shows, looking for the right supplier that would be able to design a camera he desired.

Case Study Patient Referral
Patient Referral Case Study The referral of a patient to care outside of your practice is an importance
decision for a primary care manager (PCM) in the care of their beneficiaries. The referral decision
must include not only whether that patient would be best since by a specialist, but by which specialist
(Kinchen, Cooper et al. 2004) the beneficiary would best benefit. In order to ensure the best care from
the specialist effective patient information must be exchanged between care providers in a timely
manner. Health Information Exchange (HIE), which is also known as Summary of Care , is an
objective that is required for eligible professionals (EPs), eligible hospitals and critical access
hospitals (CAHs) that are taking part of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program from
2015 until 2017 under Meaningful Use Stage 2 (MU2). The objective contains one required measure
for participation in the program. The measure is: certified EHR technology (CEHRT) must be used to
create a summary of care record which is to be used transmit care information between entities
involved in the care of the patient referred (Services 2016). The items that must be included in the
Summary of Care documents, provided the referring provider knows the information, are shown in
Table 1 (Mostashari 2012, Services 2016). Currently the standard format that has been adopted for
Summary of Care documents follows Consolidated Clinical Document Architecture (C CDA)
guidelines.

Chuck Klosterman My Zombies Myself Summary
The article My Zombie, Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead, written by Chuck
Klosterman, discusses the reasons behind zombies becoming so popular. Klosterman writes that rise of
popularity of zombies is different than that of vampires. He states that most monsters are initially
created as representations of fear. Similar to that of Frankenstein or vampires, Klosterman explains
that zombies could be viewed in the same light; however, zombies are better explained as an allegory
for our day to day existence. Rather than some innate fear, Klosterman highlights this fact to be why
zombies have risen to such high popularity. Klosterman proposes that he knows why the interest in
zombies has grown so much. He attributes this to zombies being very easy to kill, come in large
quantities, and have no depth of character. Klosterman s explanation for such intrigue in zombies is
their parallel to our day to day existence. He relates zombies to many real life activities, like going
through a weekends worth of emails on Monday. Along with the constant saturation of news we can
get from the internet, the concept of it being easy to close, or kill, and come in large quantities are
very similar to zombies. Klosterman provides this as a better exploitation of the popularity of ... Show

I felt that Klosterman did an excellent job in stating his point and backing it up. His examples were
strong proof of his concepts and did not detract from the overall article. Klosterman s transitions were
subtle, but were good enough to keep a consistent flow throughout the article. The only time that I felt
the article was lacking in direction was the very last part. It highlighted the prepetition of people
against zombies, which while still relevant, felt out of place. This did not make it a bad article, just
something that I felt was out of

The Agile Methodology ( Am ) For Software Development Essay
The Agile methodology (AM) for software development is an iterative system characterized by cycles
of development, testing, and stakeholder feedback. According to Ferreira and Cohen, the Agile
methodology has the following five characteristics (50): 1. Iterative development: Small versions of
the software are developed at regular intervals. 2. Continuous integration: Instead of waiting until the
end to make changes to code, code changes are integrated immediately and then tested to ensure they
work. 3. Collective ownership: Development teams are fluid as team members take on different roles
depending on need. They all own and are responsible for the system. 4. Test driven design: Developers
identify the testing required before beginning to write the code for the system. 5. Feedback loop: In
AM, there is a frequent feedback loop from stakeholders to ensure that the software is on track with
expectations throughout the process. Each loop in Agile development is characterized by development
of specific features, testing, stakeholder review, incorporation of changes, and then on to the next
cycle until completion. Comparison of the methods: Stakeholder input: Both waterfall and Agile
methodologies use stakeholder requirements in their process. In the waterfall case study, the video
game highlighted had a pre production stage where the requirements were identified and analysis was
done up front to develop the game conception. The design is based on that early analysis and

Donating food to the poor is a great thing to do. You can bring smiles to young faces and ease the pain
of hunger. Drop off extra meals or can goods at an agency that dispense food. Donate canned fruit or
vegetables to organizations that fight hunger. Canning your left over produce is a great way to
preserve it for others use. You can find a local shelter or food center that will accept canned food as
donations. You can even donate it to your church so they could use the food for their cupboard to help
the needy. You don t have to be a world class gourmet chef to donate food to needy people. A big heart
and fresh harvest or canned items will be adequate in sharing your bounty with others. Donating

These groups are great donating option and serve the community as an inexpensive shopping option

Epicurus Vs Lucretius
i. Death is something that is inevitably going to happen in everybody s lifetime. We see people get
older every day and as we know we don t live eternally. But should death be feared or is it harmful?
That is something that nobody can know without a doubt the answer to, but two philosophers,
Epicurus and Lucretius, have built their own arguments on the common assumption that death is the
total annihilation of the self. Therefore, if there is no life after death, we shouldn t fear death itself.
Epicurus creates his no harm argument on the fact that after we die we no longer exist. Lucretius takes
another approach where he makes a comparison using non existence before life. If we don t consider
this time period before we come to life to be bad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are downfalls to Epicurus and Lucretius arguments that I think can make them debatable. It
cannot be proven that after death our souls are eradicated. For example, many religions believe in life
after death in some form whether it is in reincarnation or heaven. I understand that millions of people
around the world believe in this for a reason and would not blindly trust in an afterlife if they didn t
have a good enough reason to. In addition, there is no way to reach out to those who have already
passed away to know for sure. Therefore, it seems impossible to know with certainty that death is the
total annihilation of the self. This makes me doubt both philosopher s arguments because the claim
that our existence is cutoff after death is what both Epicurus and Lucretius build their arguments off
of. Another reason why I believe death is harmful is because it stops you from experiencing the things
that make you happy in life. Epicurus states that death cannot possibly cause us harm because we stop
existing in that moment. It is my belief though that by our existence coming to a halt that that itself
does cause us harm. You are no longer able to be with the ones you love or do the things that you love.
If we would have lived longer we would be able to experience more of the good things. We might not
feel physical pain or harm after death but that doesn t mean that we aren t missing out on the things
that are enjoyable in the

Tenets Of Confucianism
The military classics of China represent a long and historical culture of the Chinese people. They
represent the societal concerns and developments of China and within these texts are recurring tenets
that occupied the philosophy of China. Five tenets will be analyzed to show the Confucian
relationship across various military texts. The philosophy of Confucianism permeates throughout the
Chinese history and society beginning with Han Wudi s reign. Confucian influence found within the
texts of the military doctrine. The Confucians pushed for diplomacy to resolve foreign policy
conflicts. Pacifism, as Edmund Ryden states, is not the tenet found in the books however peace is one
of the tenets found in common with the military texts. War is ... Show more content on

Confucianism can be found once more in this strategy as the goal was to kill as few people as
possible, since the goal of warfare wasn t to kill people. Sun tzu favored a primary objective of
subjugating other states without fighting thus diplomatic coercion was the idea method. He stressed
avoiding prolonged warfare. He wrote, Thus the army values being victorious; it does not value
prolonged warfare. This meant maximizing the results with minimum destruction that is inflicted. The
writers like Wei Liao tzu focused on speed, deception, concentration of force, assaulting weak points
while avoiding strengths as strategic ways of forcing the opponent to acquiesce. Brute force warfare
was disdain for a maneuver that provided a quick end to a conflict thus achieving the desired goals
without excess killing.
Confucian ideals permeate through the military texts and the five tenets analyzed as examples of the
relationship between the military texts and Confucianism. The writers of these texts were bound
culturally to the Confucian ideals as they wrote the texts. This relationship emphasized peace more
than pacifism. Benevolence and righteousness can be seen through the various examples showing how
the Confucian view of life was adhered to in these military

The Pros And Cons Of Telehealth
Telehealth Introduction Telehealth is the use of technology for the exchange of health information in a
two way communication from one location to another using a variety of tools or applications. Tools
and applications such as smart phone devices, video conferencing, emails, and other wireless
applications are used for the convenience and improvement of delivery of healthcare. It has the
advantage of connecting healthcare personnel and primary care provider with patients and provides
knowledge through the network system regarding patient care and monitoring (Katzman, 2013).

This creates safety issues and causes negative outcomes in the patients health. This is where telehealth

Evaluate The Dopamine Hypothesis
The key function of antipsychotic drugs as recognised by various researchers, is the significant
interference with brain dopamine function. This is underpinned by the hypothesis that symptoms of
schizophrenia are produced from increased activity of the neurotransmitter dopamine. This essay,
therefore discusses and examines the function and mode of action of these antipsychotics drugs with a
view to critically identifying whether schizophrenia is a disorder of dopamine function.
Dopamine Hypothesis
The dopamine hypothesis of schizophrenia as highlighted by Stone et al 2007 is seen as the principal
explanatory model of antipsychotic drug action. The formulation of dopamine hypothesis was partly
based on neuro pharmacological research that centred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as highlighted by Videbeck et al (2014), the therapeutic mechanism of action is only
partially understood. Typical antipsychotic drugs such as chlorpromazine, haloperidol, act as
antagonist at dopamine receptors (D2, D3, D4), which are situated in central pathways of the brain.
Brennan Gamble (2006), highlighted reports supporting the clinical potency of typical antipsychotics
which is determined by the extent to which they block dopamine receptors. This action of blocking D2
receptors lead to effective treatment of target symptoms of schizophrenia but induces many
extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) such as Parkinson, acute dystonic reactions, akathisia, tardive
dyskinesia and worsen negative symptoms in some patients. In as much as blocking the dopamine
receptor is acknowledged explanation of the EPS of typical antipsychotic drugs, some controversy
exists in relation to extension of the mechanism to explain the antipsychotic effect. The core
controversy is based on the inability to link the relationship between EPS and therapeutic effects.
Some typical antipsychotic drugs have shown fewer parkinsonian effects than would have been
expected from their clinical efficacy and explanation to this is that such drugs have in built
antiparkinsonian as they have high anticholinergic potency. According to Crow (1980), considering
this explanation makes the relationship between dopamine antagonism and the therapeutic
effectiveness more compelling. Brennan Gamble (2006), cited Gournay Gray (1998), highlighting that
about 30% of clients with schizophrenia do not respond to typical antipsychotics or experience severe
EPS, this means that the rest 70% respond to typical antipsychotic drugs and may experience

Roller Garage Doors
When you are renovating your home, it is important you pay careful attention to the areas outside your

states that replacing a garage door is a lucrative renovation when it comes to increasing the resale
value of your home. While there is not currently an equivalent study for homes located down under, it
is generally agreed you will see a good return on your investment when you do quality renovations.

However, one way you can combat this potential negative is to have the door regularly maintained by
a professional door serviceman.
Roller Garage Doors
A roller garage door is made up on one complete panel. When it rolls open, it rolls around itself until
the door is fully open. Because the door is a single piece that rolls, the amount of design options for it
are a lot less than a sectional door. However, this design limitation does mean you can pick up an
inexpensive roller garage door since it is not filled with fancy window inserts or other advance
panelling design.
Just like a sectional door, a roller garage door offers considerable security because the track is safely
tucked inside the garage. The main negative about a roller door is that there needs to be sufficient
space between the top of the garage door opening and the garage ceiling for the door to be able to roll
up into itself as the door opens.
While the final choice comes down to the type of door design you want for your home, be sure that the
installation of whichever door you choose is done by a professional installer. Installing the guide
tracks for either door can be a tricky task, so it is best left to those who have plenty of

Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
Chinua Achebe s controversial essay published in 1977 focuses on the racist views woven into Joseph
Conrad s 1899 novella, Heart of Darkness. Achebe claims that Conrad uses many western stereotypes
of Africa and subtly weaves them below the surface of his writing. However, due to the popularity of
the novella and the skill of Conrad, his racist views go undetected. The most obvious indicator of
Conrad s racist views is the depictions of the people. They are described as savage creatures, yet
Conrad s novella is noted for its excellence and not its horrible racist claims. Conrad s novella is full
of parallels, such as the River Thames, which is peaceful and calm contrary to the Congo River, which
is depicted as being a rough and dangerous place. By creating these parallels Conrad is representing
the differences between the European people and the Natives of Congo because he fears the thought of
having anything in common with them. Achebe declares that the racist views in the novella come from
Conrad s own beliefs but to conceal them he hides behind multiple narrators. Achebe puts forth a
compelling article that delves deep into the depths of Heart of Darkness.
Although Chinua Achebe s essay brings forth some convincing points highlighting the racism within
Heart of Darkness, he makes too many assumptions about Conrad s true intentions and beliefs that are
not concrete enough to prove that Heart of Darkness is a racist novella. Achebe focuses largely on the
language that

achieves this by creating a set of diverse characters with varying personalities, presenting concepts,

character s perspectives, expanding on what a typical third person narrative could achieve. This allows
for more in depth thoughts of all the characters, while still retaining the ability to move between
multiple characters that the third person style of narrative grants. Each individual in the story is

personality is that of confidence and tenacity. Or Gauri, who craves independence, even if the actions
taken for said independance are rash and imprudent. All of the personalities found within this novel,

Management Focusing on Acute Pain: A Multidisciplinary Concept Analysis
The concept of managing acute pain is extremely significant to nursing as pain is one of the most
common problems for which patients seek out health care resources. Pain is a complex and abstract
concept that encompasses sensory, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual perceptions of pain
that may occur in combination with physical pain. Pain is difficult to describe and often hard to

qualitatively and quantitatively as the patient perceives its intensity. Pain can affect the quality of life

inputs, and changing behavioral cognitive factors. It was no longer necessary to differentiate between

management along with CBT and pharmacological interventions. Defining pain from a psychological
perspective, it can be agreed that pain involves a physiological stimulus. The presence of a
physiological stimulus cannot determine the pain behavior. The impact of an individual s mood,

the individual and pain management as a complete concept.
Medical Discipline
Upp, Kent, and Tighe (2013) in their review of the evolution of acute pain management (APM)
recognized that pain is no longer treated as a symptom but as a disease process. APM by
anesthesiologists broadened from the perioperative period to include interventional and
pharmaceutical treatment of non surgical pain in collaboration with chronic pain clinicians. In APM
the totality of the patient is treated through a multi modal and multidisciplinary approach.

Examples Of Bravery In The Iliad
True valor is defined as strength of mind or spirit that enables a person to encounter danger with
firmness: personal bravery. In the epic story The Iliad, Achilles and Hector exemplifies courage,
strength, and loyalty for their country. Although they are from two separate cultures, one Achaeans
and the other Trojan, they both accept their fate as they battle each other in war. Courage not
cowardness runs through the blood of a hero. Hector, a Trojan warrior, spirit reflects a man of great
courage, strength, and loyalty throughout the Iliad. As the Greeks trekked upon his lands, he embraced
the battle. It was his duty to fight and not flee. Any other behavior was not acceptable in the eyes of
his culture. For instance, when Alexanderus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Achilles courage, strength, and loyalty to fight against the Trojans was out of revenge and anger not
loyalty to his country. King Agamemnon asked Achilles to return to battle and he refused to because
he did not agree with the king s cause. Thus, the king stripped Achilles of his honor by claiming back
Briseis, a gift from the king which he cherished. Achilles was distraught. As Hector in all his glory,
rages like a maniac and make havoc of the Achaeans, Achilles refuses to fight for his king against the
Trojans (Homer 122). Achilles states, Agamemnon has done me dishonor, and robbed me of my prize
by force (Homer 109). His refusal to fight expresses a difference in loyalty and reverence in his
culture to the king. Achilles was self center and his actions to fight were not in allegiance with his
people, but for himself. His pride kept him out of the battle. Unlike Hector, Achilles did not fight for
his people. He fought for his own cause. His people begged him to go back into battle asking him to
have pity on the rest of the Achaeans who are being harassed in all their host (Homer

Choosing An Occupation Of The United States
Introduction Choosing an occupation can be based on a number of factors including personal interests,
educational attainment, or family tradition. Farming is a profession that has existed for many years in
practically every country in the world. It is required to produce commodities that are needed for
human consumption such as meats, vegetables, and animal by products like dairy and eggs. The U.S.
Census describes a farm as any establishment which produced and sold, or normally would have
produced and sold, $1,000 or more of agricultural products during the year. The Census states that
there are over 2.2 million farms in the United States. In spite of the predominance of family farms,
there is strong evidence of a trend toward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite there being over 313,000,000 people living in the United States, there are less than 1% who
claim farming as an occupation (and about 2% actually live on farms). In 2007, only 45% of farmers
claimed farming as their principal occupation and a similar number of farmers claiming some other
principal occupation. The growing population will require more people to pursue a career in farming
to meet the demand of agricultural products. Like other occupations, farming requires a level of skill
and financial capital before one can begin to start an operation. Educational Issue The majority of
farms in the U.S. are owned and operated by individuals or families with the rest being either
partnerships or corporate farms. Many farm families have formed modest sized corporations to take
advantage of legal and accounting benefits of that type of business enterprise. One reason for this
business organization is that farm production expenses average $109,359 per year per farm. The high
operating expenses of a farm make it very difficult to produce enough income to meet living expenses.
In fact, less than 1 in 4 of the farms in this country produce gross revenues in excess of $50,000. Much
like the manufacturing field, the U.S. farm population has declined and the average age of farmers
continues to rise. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about sixty percent of the farmers in the

The Case Of Korematsu V. US
KOREMATSU v U.S.
323 U.S. 214 (1944)
Perhaps, according to Bernard Schwartz, the greatest failure of American law during World War II
may be illustrated by the case of Fred Toyosaburo Korematsu. As graphically described in 1944 by a
member of the bench, his case is one that is unique in our system:
Korematsu was born on our soil, of parents born in Japan. The Constitution makes him a citizen of the
United States by nativity and a citizen of California by residence. No claim is made that he is not loyal
to this country. There is no suggestion that apart from the matter involved here he is not law abiding
and well disposed. Korematsu, however, has been convicted of an act not commonly a crime. It
consists me rely of being present in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, regardless of the true nature of the assembly and relocation centers, we are dealing
specifically with nothing but the exclusion order. To bring in the issue of racial prejudice, without
reference to the real military dangers which existed, merely confuses the issue.
Korematsu was not excluded from the Military Area because of hostility to him or his race. He was
excluded because we are at war with the Japanese Empire . . . The military urgency of the situation
required that all citizens of Japanese ancestry be segregated from the West Coast temporarily.
Congress put their confidence in our military leaders and decided that they should have the power to
carry out the necessary measures. There was evidence of disloyalty on the part of some so the military
authorities felt that the need for action was great. The fact that we can look back and see things more
calmly does not allow us to say that at the time these actions were unjustified.21
In dissenting Justice Owen Roberts felt the facts presented exhibited a clear violation of Constitutional
rights. It is he stated not a case of keeping people off the streets at night, nor a case of temporary
exclusion from an area for safety reasons . . . It is the case of convicting a citizen as a punishment to
not going into imprisonment in a concentration camp. In addition, if a citizen were forced to obey two
laws and obedience

A hero is defined as a person noted for special achievements in a field. Dr. Susan Calvin, the main
character of the novel I, Robot, is made the hero because of her special achievements in the field of
robotics. Dr. Calvin is a robopsychologist who uses many different methods of problems solving to
solve the problems that other scientists and mathematicians were incapable of doing. Through these
many adventures in the field of robotics, Dr. Susan Calvin displays her many character traits to the
reader. Dr. Calvin has an excellent combination of many different attributes. In I, Robot, by Isaac
Asimov, Dr. Susan Calvin, the main character, reveals much about herself to the reader, and makes the

She figures that since Herbie can read minds, he must know that she loves Milton Ashe, and starts to

The Concept Of Sustainable Development
The concept of sustainable development has been at the centre of many big debates of late including
world conferences on development and developmental planners. It is gaining impetus as people get
more informed on the current effects of climate change and the looming devastating effects of the
same on future generations increasing the unpredictability of the future. At the core of sustainable
development is the fragile condition of balancing between protection as well as maintenance of the
productivity of the environment and the quest for economic growth. This is a fundamental function of
environmental politics. The concept of sustainable development makes us believe that it is possible to
realize economic prosperity and protect the environment at the same time (Carter, 2007).
Although tradeoff may be made between ecological sustainability and fulfilment of basic human needs
(Lélé, 1991), this should not be an encouraged practice because human beings will always give
preference to their needs over environmental protection no matter how trivial they may be. The
ultimate remedy for sustainable development therefore lies with practical good governance and
political will locally, nationally and globally.
The origin and prominence of the concept sustainable development can be traced back to the 1980
IUCN s World Conservation Strategy(WCS) which aimed at achieving sustainable development
through conservation of living resources (Lélé, 1991). In his criticism of the world

Barbarianism In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
In all cultures, there are people struggling for survival. Some are starving, some are living in sheer
poverty, some are thrown into slavery and some just cannot get their footing; but in all of these
situations there seems to be a common theme that presents itself over and over again. Many of these
people become so desperate to live they will give up their morals and give in to whatever they can to
get by. Occasionally, there is one person stronger than the rest, one able to hold onto their morals, one
that would rather die than give in to immorality. However, given certain circumstances; even these
people turn to pure barbarianism in order to survive. The Pulitzer Award Winning novel, The Road by
Cormac McCarthy, details the numerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While on the road, in a few flashback sequences, the fate of the boy s mother is revealed. Among the
flashbacks, there was a conversation between the man and his wife after the boy has been born. The
man entreats his wife not to commit suicide. She wishes to die by her own hand however, in order to
escape what she believes is her inevitable rape and her family s inevitable murder. She wishes that
their pistol had three bullets, not only two, so that she could spare her entire family from their
gruesome fate. Throughout the conversation, the man continues to beg her to reconsider her decision
or at least wait until the morning to say goodbye to their son. After her death, the man and the boy
pack up their camp, and the boy only says, She s gone, isn t she? (McCarthy 50). This sequence of
events reveals the mother s very dark nature because instead of being there for her son, like a devoted
parent, she chooses to leave this world out of pure fear of the post apocalyptic event. She even goes so
far as to question the existence of her husband and newborn; yet she does not even do a small good
deed as to tell her son goodbye. Instead, she chooses to burden her husband to be the sole proprietor
for their son; thus revealing her animalistic nature. In addition, in preparation for the catastrophe, the
dark nature of the boy s father is also evident through his decision to buy a gun in anticipation of the
worst possible scenario. Contrary to popular belief, he does

A Comparison of Brave New World and Blade Runner Essay
A Comparison of Brave New World and Blade Runner
In the worlds of the narrative text Brave New World (1932), composed by Aldous Huxley and the
visual text Blade Runner (Director s Cut) (1992), directed by Ridley Scott, perhaps the most
significant thematic concern is that of the intervention into the natural order by elitist human forces.
Responders are confronted with stark, forlorn visions of a future that has alienated the natural
environment from humanity, creating a society of moral destitution, in which its inhabitants are
substantially lacking as human beings. Humanity in these worlds is governed by loss, loss of the
natural , and loss of spirituality. It is man s obstruction of the ... Show more content on

Lower castes in Brave New World are indoctrinated to hate nature so they remain happy to be
incarcerated in the factories doing the work their predetermined social status requires of them. A love
of nature keeps no factories busy. It was decided to abolish a love of nature. This passage serves as a
consequential metaphor that assumes an enjoyment and appreciation of the environment impedes
industrial progress. Furthermore, the absolutism with which it was consciously decided to abolish a
love of nature speaks to the extent to which man has sought to eradicate nature in the novel.
This New World Utopia depicts a society where the pursuit of pleasure is not only encouraged but
imposed upon its citizens. Juvenile sexual practice is expected, monogamy is a myth and deemed
repugnant, and interpersonal romantic relationships are seen as anti social, and unacceptable. The
narcotic soma is ingested with the ultimate objective to create a numbed populace who willingly
accept without question their roles and responsibilities in what is a highly oppressive system. In both
texts the insignificant, Epsilons of Brave New World and little people of Blade Runner, are kept in
their place for an essentially sadistic purpose. In Brave New World, in particular, we see that the
Epsilons are socially conditioned and indoctrinated through

The Legalization Of Marijuana And The United States
The Legalization of Cannabis
The legalization of Cannabis in the United States is an extremely hot topic in the current media.
Currently, 23 states and D.C. have laws to legalize use of Cannabis (NORML). Cannabis is also
known as marijuana, dope, pot, grass, weed, head, Maryjane, doobie, bud, ganja, hashish, hash, bhang
(Cannabis). Cannabis is now the third most popular recreational drug in America, this is behind
alcohol and tobacco. It has been used by 100 million Americans (Cannabis). Since the legalization of
Cannabis is such a hot topic in the United States, this issue is highly debated. Both sides of the

Decriminalization policies towards cannabis is starting to show up throughout the country, challenging
the Controlled Substance Act. This act is a statute that gives the federal government ability to arrest
when a manufacture, importation, possession, and use and distribution are founded for the federal
arrest. This also states that the federal court s medical provisions for cannabis are irrelevant in a
federal prosecution case (Cannabis). Decriminalization is the lesser penalties for the crime. Most
states that are decriminalizing cannabis have drug education, treatment, and civil fines. This is all in
place of incarceration or criminal charges for the scant amount of cannabis (Galvin).
Economic Implications of Cannabis Legalization: In Colorado, the Economic Implications seem to be
extremely positive for the state. Licensed, regulated cannabis stores earned almost one billion dollars
in 2015. The taxation collection was over one hundred and thirty five million dollars. These numbers
do not even include income tax, property tax, or tax revenues. Colorado has also noticed an increase
of tourism since the legalization of cannabis. From the reports, it is noticeable that the implications for
the Colorado economy are extremely positive (Colorado).

The Decline and Collapse of General Motors
The Decline and Collapse Of General Motors
ntroduction
General Motors (GM), who once dominated the automobile industry, has now plummeted, almost to
the point of extinction. Throughout the 1940 s to the 1970 s General Motors (GM) had dominated the
automobile industry. By the 1980 s, GM was suddenly facing a shift in the economy and consumer
demands.
GM s Earlier Successes
In the 1950 s, GM agreed to pay their workers well, by signing groundbreaking long term employment
union contracts which included:
workers to be the highest paid in America
pay rates were automatically increased with the rate of inflation
workers were paid during shutdown periods

GM was given the opportunity to make radical changes and regain its market leadership, they failed.
The Saturn was introduced, but has recently closed its doors.
Adam Hartung (a business advisor), says GM could have avoided its present dilemma. According to
Hartung, Smith shouldn t have opened a new division separate from the main firm. Instead he says
Smith should have focused on making dramatic changes within the existing company s labor structure,
dealer structure, and vehicles, by imitating its competitors.
GM s Demise
It was GM s arrogance that led this company to their present demise. GM had monopolized the auto
industry for so long, they thought they were infallible; believing that its competitors would never have
the resources or capability that they had. GM never considered shifts in the environment (gas prices
and a declining economy) and consumer demands for quality and fuel efficient automobiles.
Too busy with their own internal problems, like employee contracts that forced them to focus on high
profits; they had ignored and underestimated their competitors. GM has lost its share of the market.
Had they focused on the innovation they had when the company was first established, they may not be
in the situation they are in today. It appears that they had drifted away from their mission to become
and stay the leader of the automotive industry, now their paying the price. Recently, GM s stock price
had fallen from $96 per

Bible and begins with God telling Abraham to kill his son, Isaac, on Moriah in Genesis 22:1 19.

Relatedness is the socially recognized ties that connect people in a variety of different ways. It

cases where more than one substance is shared.

Honesty Services Fraud Case Study
The case of former Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell and his wife, Maureen McDonnell was an
important game changer in politics. They were indicted by the Federal Government on bribery
charges. These charges were due to the acceptance of more than $170,000 in loans, gifts, and other
benefits by a Virginia businessman, Jonnie Williams, while the Governor was in office. Jonnie
Williams was the chief executive officer of Star Scientific, which is a Virginia based company that
developed a nutritional supplement made from anatabine, a compound found in tobacco. This
nutritional supplement called Anatabloc. William claimed that Anatabloc had healing powers and

The charges against the Governor were conspiracy to commit honest services fraud (18 U. S.
C.§1343) and conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act extortion (§1951(a)). As to Governor spouse, Maureen
McDonnell, she was indicted on obstructing official proceedings (§1512(c)(2)) and similar charges as
the Governor. The bribery statute states that a crime is committed when a public official or person
selected to be a public official, directly or indirectly, or corruptly demand, receive, accept to receive or
accept anything of value in return for being influenced in the performance of any official act. §201(b)
(2). Therefore, the Government was required to prove that Governor McDonnell agreed to commit an
official act in exchange for the gifts and loans from Williams. The Government alleged that the
Governor had committed more than five official acts by arranging meetings, hosting events,
promoting Star Scientific s products and contacting other government officials to encourage the
research of anatabine in state universities. The Governor claimed that doing this kind of meetings or
introductions was common and that he did it literally thousands of times as Governor. The District
Court told the jury that in order to convict Governor McDonnell, it must find that he agreed to accept
a thing of value in exchange for official action . The Governor requested the court to instruct the jury
to further explain the meaning of official act but the District Court declined the proposed instruction to
the jury. The jury convicted the Governor on the honest services fraud and Hobbs Act extortion
charges but cleared him on the false statement charges. After the verdict, the Governor filed a motion
to vacate the convictions claiming the jury instructions were legally erroneous, but the District Court
denied the motion. Governor McDonnell appealed his convictions to

First, since the firm has been a historic champion of barrier coating , starting producing a product
which has been characterized by the very firm as weaker and lower quality would go against the very
major message of the company and its cost effectiveness approach. This would at least put under
question mark the image of the company and its philosophy, at most render almost futile all its market
education efforts of more than a decade. Anyway, as mentioned, GAFCEL s success did not come
about as a result of creating additional market but rather of gaining a portion of market previously
occupied by Astro. It is not that the profit margins were low for the uncoated products (indeed, these
hovered around 60 70%), but the change in the product line would have been against the whole idea of
Sealed Air. And the firm had very good brand awareness and the American customer was opting for
quality and cost effectiveness.
In contrast to the American market, the emergence of new competitors on the European market
seemed to have the potential of a much more powerful impact. The European customer was not that
educated about the product and many regarded packaging supplies as expendable commodities ,
making the price in this market a key driving determinant of purchase choice. In this context, the
decision to diversify by enlarging the product line into uncoated bubble packaging material would
have a lesser effect on firm s image. Also, faced

  • 2. Villa Rica Christian Church On the fifth of February, I went to my church, Villa Rica Christian Church. In my church, there is a nursery for kids ranging from birth to two. The first toy was a rectangular box that has shaped holes on the lid. On the lid, there are four shapes triangle, square, star, and circle. The second toy, is a panel with four different popups of Sesame Street characters. To trigger the popup, a kid has to either turn, press, or push a button. The third toy is a child like abacus with five rows of beads that vary by colors red, yellow, blue, green, and orange. In the nursery, I examined toys aimed at the sensorimotor stage of cognitive development. This stage includes actions based on reflexes and the transition to actions based on intentions. Actions that are satisfying are repeated by the child through a process called primary circular reactions. Soon after this first stage, the child moves on to the secondary circular reactions or actions that have an effect on the environment. After experiencing both of these kind of reactions, the child then advances into more intentional actions. The child begins to have goal directed behavior and curiosity which leads to experimenting. Lastly, the child will begin to understand symbolic problem solving and object permanence. The first toy has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For kids ranging from birth to two, toys need to help them practice primary, secondary, and tertiary circular reactions, as well as goal directed behavior and eventually object ... Private Property In John Locke s Social Contract In his social contract, Locke also specified the purpose of a legitimate government and clarified how a legitimate government can exercise authority. Aside from providing security and addressing inconveniences found in the state of nature, Locke argued that the purpose of government is to protect people s private property. Property is a profound component of Locke s social contract as it is tangible and gives people more autonomy over their lives. According to Locke, property becomes private once man adds his labor to public property. As the man improved the public property in some manner, he can officially lay his claim to it. Owning property allows people to improve their living conditions and can empower strong economic actors. Locke ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Foreign Exchange Risk Management REVIEW 1 The survey of foreign currency risk awareness and management practices in Tanzania REVIEW OF LITERATURE Foreign exchange risk management Foreign currency exchange risk is the additional riskiness or varience of a firm s cash flows that may be attributed to currency fluctuations (Giddy, 1977, Brigham and Ehrhardt, 2005). Normally, foreign currency risk exists in three forms; translation, transaction and economic exposures. Foreign currency risk management involves taking decisions which aim at minimizing or eliminating the negative effects of currency fluctuations on balance sheet and income statement values, a firm s receipts and payments arising out of current transactions, and on long term future cash flows of a firm. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using a unique set of data containing complete foreign currency spot and derivatives positions of Korean exporting firms, we empirically find that currency position squaring firms have significantly higher firm value. We also find evidence that these firms time the currency market when they manage their currency cash position. Meanwhile, firms time the credit market when they determine the use of foreign currency debts. Strikingly, firms still time the market even when they conduct derivatives hedging and synthetic hedging. Our findings are consistent with the market timing theory of capital structure. The second essay examines what determines banks‟ exposure to foreign currency risks, their management of these risks, and the relationship to the probability of bank failures. Using a unique data set of Korean banks with detailed information on their foreign currency risk exposures and hedging positions, we find that banks‟ foreign currency position mismatches, maturity mismatches, and debt roll over risks are significantly attributed to their dollar carry lending strategy, which is stimulated by market timing of corporate firms, short maturity dollar borrowings, real estate market booms, and dollar interest rate tightening. We also find that banks‟ foreign currency exposures significantly increase their financial distress likelihood through dollar carry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the pictures are taken ashore, the barrels look different then they look when you are in the middle of one. He desire for a camera that could capture the professional, undiscovered footage that makes you feel like a HERO. Therefore he developed a wristband holding the waterproof camera against his arm so he could videotape himself while he was surfing and share his surfing exploits with his friends. The initial motive of this invention was created only for personal use for Woodman s traveling. However, when Woodman returned to California with the seed of an idea, he realized that many surfers would actually appreciate this invention and it was conclusively a good business opportunity. Case Study Patient Referral Patient Referral Case Study The referral of a patient to care outside of your practice is an importance decision for a primary care manager (PCM) in the care of their beneficiaries. The referral decision must include not only whether that patient would be best since by a specialist, but by which specialist (Kinchen, Cooper et al. 2004) the beneficiary would best benefit. In order to ensure the best care from the specialist effective patient information must be exchanged between care providers in a timely manner. • 7. Chuck Klosterman My Zombies Myself Summary The article My Zombie, Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead, written by Chuck Klosterman, discusses the reasons behind zombies becoming so popular. Klosterman writes that rise of popularity of zombies is different than that of vampires. He states that most monsters are initially created as representations of fear. Similar to that of Frankenstein or vampires, Klosterman explains that zombies could be viewed in the same light; however, zombies are better explained as an allegory for our day to day existence. Rather than some innate fear, Klosterman highlights this fact to be why zombies have risen to such high popularity. Klosterman proposes that he knows why the interest in zombies has grown so much. He attributes this to zombies being very easy to kill, come in large quantities, and have no depth of character. Klosterman s explanation for such intrigue in zombies is their parallel to our day to day existence. He relates zombies to many real life activities, like going through a weekends worth of emails on Monday. Along with the constant saturation of news we can get from the internet, the concept of it being easy to close, or kill, and come in large quantities are very similar to zombies. Klosterman provides this as a better exploitation of the popularity of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I felt that Klosterman did an excellent job in stating his point and backing it up. His examples were strong proof of his concepts and did not detract from the overall article. Klosterman s transitions were subtle, but were good enough to keep a consistent flow throughout the article. The only time that I felt the article was lacking in direction was the very last part. It highlighted the prepetition of people against zombies, which while still relevant, felt out of place. This did not make it a bad article, just something that I felt was out of ... • 9. The Agile Methodology ( Am ) For Software Development Essay The Agile methodology (AM) for software development is an iterative system characterized by cycles of development, testing, and stakeholder feedback. According to Ferreira and Cohen, the Agile methodology has the following five characteristics (50): 1. Iterative development: Small versions of the software are developed at regular intervals. 2. Continuous integration: Instead of waiting until the end to make changes to code, code changes are integrated immediately and then tested to ensure they work. 3. Collective ownership: Development teams are fluid as team members take on different roles depending on need. They all own and are responsible for the system. 4. Test driven design: Developers identify the testing required before beginning to write the code for the system. 5. Feedback loop: In AM, there is a frequent feedback loop from stakeholders to ensure that the software is on track with expectations throughout the process. Each loop in Agile development is characterized by development of specific features, testing, stakeholder review, incorporation of changes, and then on to the next cycle until completion. Comparison of the methods: Stakeholder input: Both waterfall and Agile methodologies use stakeholder requirements in their process. In the waterfall case study, the video game highlighted had a pre production stage where the requirements were identified and analysis was done up front to develop the game conception. • 11. Epicurus Vs Lucretius i. Death is something that is inevitably going to happen in everybody s lifetime. We see people get older every day and as we know we don t live eternally. But should death be feared or is it harmful? That is something that nobody can know without a doubt the answer to, but two philosophers, Epicurus and Lucretius, have built their own arguments on the common assumption that death is the total annihilation of the self. Therefore, if there is no life after death, we shouldn t fear death itself. Epicurus creates his no harm argument on the fact that after we die we no longer exist. Lucretius takes another approach where he makes a comparison using non existence before life. If we don t consider this time period before we come to life to be bad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are downfalls to Epicurus and Lucretius arguments that I think can make them debatable. It cannot be proven that after death our souls are eradicated. For example, many religions believe in life after death in some form whether it is in reincarnation or heaven. I understand that millions of people around the world believe in this for a reason and would not blindly trust in an afterlife if they didn t have a good enough reason to. In addition, there is no way to reach out to those who have already passed away to know for sure. Therefore, it seems impossible to know with certainty that death is the total annihilation of the self. This makes me doubt both philosopher s arguments because the claim that our existence is cutoff after death is what both Epicurus and Lucretius build their arguments off of. Another reason why I believe death is harmful is because it stops you from experiencing the things that make you happy in life. Epicurus states that death cannot possibly cause us harm because we stop existing in that moment. It is my belief though that by our existence coming to a halt that that itself does cause us harm. You are no longer able to be with the ones you love or do the things that you love. If we would have lived longer we would be able to experience more of the good things. We might not feel physical pain or harm after death but that doesn t mean that we aren t missing out on the things that are enjoyable in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The philosophy of Confucianism permeates throughout the Chinese history and society beginning with Han Wudi s reign. Confucian influence found within the texts of the military doctrine. Confucianism can be found once more in this strategy as the goal was to kill as few people as possible, since the goal of warfare wasn t to kill people. Sun tzu favored a primary objective of subjugating other states without fighting thus diplomatic coercion was the idea method. He stressed avoiding prolonged warfare. He wrote, Thus the army values being victorious; it does not value prolonged warfare. This meant maximizing the results with minimum destruction that is inflicted. The writers like Wei Liao tzu focused on speed, deception, concentration of force, assaulting weak points while avoiding strengths as strategic ways of forcing the opponent to acquiesce. Brute force warfare was disdain for a maneuver that provided a quick end to a conflict thus achieving the desired goals without excess killing. Confucian ideals permeate through the military texts and the five tenets analyzed as examples of the relationship between the military texts and Confucianism. This is underpinned by the hypothesis that symptoms of schizophrenia are produced from increased activity of the neurotransmitter dopamine. This essay, therefore discusses and examines the function and mode of action of these antipsychotics drugs with a view to critically identifying whether schizophrenia is a disorder of dopamine function. The formulation of dopamine hypothesis was partly based on neuro pharmacological research that centred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, as highlighted by Videbeck et al (2014), the therapeutic mechanism of action is only partially understood. Typical antipsychotic drugs such as chlorpromazine, haloperidol, act as antagonist at dopamine receptors (D2, D3, D4), which are situated in central pathways of the brain. Brennan Gamble (2006), highlighted reports supporting the clinical potency of typical antipsychotics which is determined by the extent to which they block dopamine receptors. This action of blocking D2 receptors lead to effective treatment of target symptoms of schizophrenia but induces many extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) such as Parkinson, acute dystonic reactions, akathisia, tardive dyskinesia and worsen negative symptoms in some patients. In as much as blocking the dopamine receptor is acknowledged explanation of the EPS of typical antipsychotic drugs, some controversy exists in relation to extension of the mechanism to explain the antipsychotic effect. The core controversy is based on the inability to link the relationship between EPS and therapeutic effects. Some typical antipsychotic drugs have shown fewer parkinsonian effects than would have been expected from their clinical efficacy and explanation to this is that such drugs have in built antiparkinsonian as they have high anticholinergic potency. According to Crow (1980), considering this explanation makes the relationship between dopamine antagonism and the therapeutic effectiveness more compelling. Brennan Gamble (2006), cited Gournay Gray (1998), highlighting that about 30% of clients with schizophrenia do not respond to typical antipsychotics or experience severe EPS, this means that the rest 70% respond to typical antipsychotic drugs and may experience ... A recent report about American home renovations states that replacing a garage door is a lucrative renovation when it comes to increasing the resale value of your home. While there is not currently an equivalent study for homes located down under, it is generally agreed you will see a good return on your investment when you do quality renovations. However, one way you can combat this potential negative is to have the door regularly maintained by a professional door serviceman. Roller Garage Doors A roller garage door is made up on one complete panel. When it rolls open, it rolls around itself until the door is fully open. Because the door is a single piece that rolls, the amount of design options for it are a lot less than a sectional door. However, this design limitation does mean you can pick up an inexpensive roller garage door since it is not filled with fancy window inserts or other advance panelling design. Just like a sectional door, a roller garage door offers considerable security because the track is safely tucked inside the garage. The main negative about a roller door is that there needs to be sufficient space between the top of the garage door opening and the garage ceiling for the door to be able to roll up into itself as the door opens. While the final choice comes down to the type of door design you want for your home, be sure that the installation of whichever door you choose is done by a professional installer. • 17. Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness Chinua Achebe s controversial essay published in 1977 focuses on the racist views woven into Joseph Conrad s 1899 novella, Heart of Darkness. Achebe claims that Conrad uses many western stereotypes of Africa and subtly weaves them below the surface of his writing. However, due to the popularity of the novella and the skill of Conrad, his racist views go undetected. The most obvious indicator of Conrad s racist views is the depictions of the people. They are described as savage creatures, yet Conrad s novella is noted for its excellence and not its horrible racist claims. Conrad s novella is full of parallels, such as the River Thames, which is peaceful and calm contrary to the Congo River, which is depicted as being a rough and dangerous place. By creating these parallels Conrad is representing the differences between the European people and the Natives of Congo because he fears the thought of having anything in common with them. Achebe declares that the racist views in the novella come from Conrad s own beliefs but to conceal them he hides behind multiple narrators. Achebe puts forth a compelling article that delves deep into the depths of Heart of Darkness. Although Chinua Achebe s essay brings forth some convincing points highlighting the racism within Heart of Darkness, he makes too many assumptions about Conrad s true intentions and beliefs that are not concrete enough to prove that Heart of Darkness is a racist novella. The Lowland By Jhumpa Lahiri ISU ESSAY Damon Liu The Lowland written by Jhumpa Lahiri, deals with character s lives, that are intertwined over the distance between the United States and India. The book follows Subhash, the main protagonist of the story, as he adapts to the constant changes that come with settling far from his birthplace. The novel not only connects the colourful cast of characters, but the reader as well. Lahiri achieves this by creating a set of diverse characters with varying personalities, presenting concepts, themes and motifs, and establishing a strong sense of atmosphere. In doing so, The Lowland is a good book for high school students to study Within this novel, the reader is introduced a wide spectrum of characters, each with various personalities and emotions. The writing style itself jumps from multiple character s perspectives, expanding on what a typical third person narrative could achieve. This allows for more in depth thoughts of all the characters, while still retaining the ability to move between multiple characters that the third person style of narrative grants. Each individual in the story is distinctive with one another. Take Subhash, a quiet and cautious character, or Udayan, whose personality is that of confidence and tenacity. Or Gauri, who craves independence, even if the actions taken for said independance are rash and imprudent. The U.S. Census describes a farm as any establishment which produced and sold, or normally would have produced and sold, $1,000 or more of agricultural products during the year. The growing population will require more people to pursue a career in farming to meet the demand of agricultural products. Like other occupations, farming requires a level of skill and financial capital before one can begin to start an operation. Educational Issue The majority of farms in the U.S. are owned and operated by individuals or families with the rest being either partnerships or corporate farms. Many farm families have formed modest sized corporations to take advantage of legal and accounting benefits of that type of business enterprise. One reason for this business organization is that farm production expenses average $109,359 per year per farm. The high operating expenses of a farm make it very difficult to produce enough income to meet living expenses. In fact, less than 1 in 4 of the farms in this country produce gross revenues in excess of $50,000. The Concept Of Sustainable Development The concept of sustainable development has been at the centre of many big debates of late including world conferences on development and developmental planners. It is gaining impetus as people get more informed on the current effects of climate change and the looming devastating effects of the same on future generations increasing the unpredictability of the future. At the core of sustainable development is the fragile condition of balancing between protection as well as maintenance of the productivity of the environment and the quest for economic growth. This is a fundamental function of environmental politics. The concept of sustainable development makes us believe that it is possible to realize economic prosperity and protect the environment at the same time (Carter, 2007). Although tradeoff may be made between ecological sustainability and fulfilment of basic human needs (Lélé, 1991), this should not be an encouraged practice because human beings will always give preference to their needs over environmental protection no matter how trivial they may be. The ultimate remedy for sustainable development therefore lies with practical good governance and political will locally, nationally and globally. The origin and prominence of the concept sustainable development can be traced back to the 1980 IUCN s World Conservation Strategy(WCS) which aimed at achieving sustainable development through conservation of living resources (Lélé, 1991). • 36. Honesty Services Fraud Case Study The case of former Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell and his wife, Maureen McDonnell was an important game changer in politics. They were indicted by the Federal Government on bribery charges. These charges were due to the acceptance of more than $170,000 in loans, gifts, and other benefits by a Virginia businessman, Jonnie Williams, while the Governor was in office. Jonnie Williams was the chief executive officer of Star Scientific, which is a Virginia based company that developed a nutritional supplement made from anatabine, a compound found in tobacco. This nutritional supplement called Anatabloc. William claimed that Anatabloc had healing powers and wanted to continue the research on anatabine. Therefore, William wanted the Governor s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The charges against the Governor were conspiracy to commit honest services fraud (18 U. S. C.§1343) and conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act extortion (§1951(a)). As to Governor spouse, Maureen McDonnell, she was indicted on obstructing official proceedings (§1512(c)(2)) and similar charges as the Governor. The bribery statute states that a crime is committed when a public official or person selected to be a public official, directly or indirectly, or corruptly demand, receive, accept to receive or accept anything of value in return for being influenced in the performance of any official act. §201(b) (2). Therefore, the Government was required to prove that Governor McDonnell agreed to commit an official act in exchange for the gifts and loans from Williams. The Government alleged that the Governor had committed more than five official acts by arranging meetings, hosting events, promoting Star Scientific s products and contacting other government officials to encourage the research of anatabine in state universities. The Governor claimed that doing this kind of meetings or introductions was common and that he did it literally thousands of times as Governor. The District Court told the jury that in order to convict Governor McDonnell, it must find that he agreed to accept a thing of value in exchange for official action . The Governor requested the court to instruct the jury to further explain the meaning of official act but the District Court declined the proposed instruction to the jury. The jury convicted the Governor on the honest services fraud and Hobbs Act extortion charges but cleared him on the false statement charges. After the verdict, the Governor filed a motion to vacate the convictions claiming the jury instructions were legally erroneous, but the District Court denied the motion. Governor McDonnell appealed his convictions to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since its start Sealed Air s goal has been a position as a market leader and as a constant technology developer. Doing things first was always the main idea. This strong idea of being market leader was also inspired by greater and sustainable profits which have always been assured for the market leader. Customer oriented approach was an important matter also because educating the customer about advantages of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, since the firm has been a historic champion of barrier coating , starting producing a product which has been characterized by the very firm as weaker and lower quality would go against the very major message of the company and its cost effectiveness approach. This would at least put under question mark the image of the company and its philosophy, at most render almost futile all its market education efforts of more than a decade. Anyway, as mentioned, GAFCEL s success did not come about as a result of creating additional market but rather of gaining a portion of market previously occupied by Astro. It is not that the profit margins were low for the uncoated products (indeed, these hovered around 60 70%), but the change in the product line would have been against the whole idea of Sealed Air. And the firm had very good brand awareness and the American customer was opting for quality and cost effectiveness. In contrast to the American market, the emergence of new competitors on the European market seemed to have the potential of a much more powerful impact. The European customer was not that educated about the product and many regarded packaging supplies as expendable commodities , making the price in this market a key driving determinant of purchase choice. In this context, the decision to diversify by enlarging the product line into uncoated bubble packaging material would have a lesser effect on firm s image. Also, faced ...
