Fear and Confusion in films Psycho and Carrie Essay
Fear and Confusion in films Psycho and Carrie
In horror films, there is always one scene that opens up the perceived realm of normality to that of
fear and confusion. Directors and authors alike use these scenes to show the change in the pace of
the film. In both the movie Psycho (1960) and Carrie (1976), shower scenes are used to mark this
epic turning point with sexuality, blood and voyeurism; the most important ingredients to horror.
The idea of sneaking around and peering into forbidden places gives just about everyone a thrill.
Voyeurism is used strongly in both Psychoand Carrie due to its ability to entice thrill in the viewer.
In Carrie, we start the scene by looking into a girls high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are then given an extreme close up of Norman s eye, staring wide into the room; the view we
have gives us the thrill of actually being there, watching Marion undress. This method of filming,
giving the audience the sight of the forbidden, adds thrill to the important scenes. Thrill only
encourages us to watch the movie more intently, on the edge of our seats.
Sexuality also adds a great deal of tension to the two scenes. We watch as Marion drops her robe
to the floor and steps gingerly into the shower. Once in the shower, we are given a point of view
shot of the showerhead, a huge showerhead covering her entire body with clean, warm water,
cleansing her of her sins in an almost baptismal way. We are allowed only collarbone up shots of
her in the shower, only hints to her nakedness. We can only imagine what she looks like, giving
the audience the same thoughts that raced through Norman s mind as he looked in on her
through the peephole. Carrie is also highly sexualized, more so given the fact that more nudity
was allowed with the changing times. As we gaze at the different close up camera shots of her
body, we watch as she reaches for the soap. The audience watches as she rubs soap all over her
body in slow motion, her face complacent in both peace and pleasure. Carrie then begins to rub her
breasts and her inner thigh in a very

Vertebrate Compare And Contrast
What is a chordate? How are vertebrates different from chordates: Chordates are the beginning of
the vertebrate phylum, they have a long flexible rod called a notochord, pharyngeal clefts, and
muscular tails. The notochord runs between the digestive tract and dorsal nerve, the chord is
made from stiff tissue and fluid filled cells. Vertebrates are still chordates, but they do not have a
notochord, the notochord forms into vertebrae and the spine later in the development of the
embryos. Compare and contrast the ways that fungi eat with the ways that animals digest, and
absorb their food: Fungi have specialized roots called hyphae that don t grow in width, but in

Dershane Assisted Living Case Study
The capital investment I chose is the start up of an assisted living center; specifically, Dershane s
Assisted Living . There are several arguments that could be used for the capital investment proposal.
Since this would be a new capital investment, financial arguments against the proposal would be the
principal factor.
I believe the proposal to establish an assisted living center would be approved; however, the
arguments against an establishment of a new capital investment would be valid due to it would be a
new establishment.
In making the investment decision, it would be imperative to form a strategic plan, therefore the
financial investors, financial institutions, shareholders, and lenders would be able to visualize how
the capital investment would be profitable for them as well as have a return on investment.
Barriers for this type of capital investment would include limited assets, return on investment ...

One important factor to consider with assets is the power assets possess. Our core text Introduction

The Song Cherry Wine By Indie Rock Artist
In the song Cherry Wine , written and performed by indie rock artist Hozier, it becomes apparent
early on that this is not what one might consider a typical love song; nor is it about a typical
woman. Although the acoustic guitar and softer melody paint a peaceful picture, the lyrics express
that there is something much deeper that lies beneath its surface. From beginning to end, every
verse about this woman and his relationship with her is a contradiction, which immediately sets the
tone for the way he feels being with her: it s a battle. While most lovesongs are written in hopes of
appealing to a wide audience, Hozier simply writes about the faults he has found in his own
relationship and how, regardless, he can t seem to walk away. Although Hozier continuously
professes his love for this woman throughout this song, there are still darker lyrics and elements
that should be acknowledged as well. The second verse begins with this line: Calls of guilty fall
on me/ All while she stains the sheets of some other. It s very clear in this lyric that this woman
has continuously accused him of being unfaithful to her all while it is implied that she is the one
who has been unfaithful. It is not just coincidence that, a few lines before, Hozier says It looks
ugly, but it s clean. Oh mama, don t fuss over me, which suggests that his friends and family are
concerned about this relationship but he insists that it isn t as bad as it looks. It s interesting how

Media Reflection Paper
Today the life revolves around media, it is on people s phones, media decorate their walls, and for
some media is their job. Since media is such an inescapable part of the modern landscape it is
significant that we as individuals understand how the media works and how it affects us. In this
course, the nature of the mediahas been unraveled to reveal the ways that it has impacted society
and how it has done this. This class has made me became more critical of the media in my life
and now even without thinking I recognize patterns, and in some cases toxic themes in the media
I consume. Looking back on this semester and what I have learned I can see that I have become
more media literate in many ways, primarily in the areas of awareness and analysis. I have
become more aware of the way media is constructed. Some things that have stood out to me since
I have started this course is for example the other day when I flew into the ST. Louis airport after
Thanksgiving break one of the monitors in baggage claim said that it was CLear Channel TV
before this course I do not know what clear channel was and I knew that the entertainment
business was an oligopoly but I did not realize the extent. Seeing this was a moment of realization,
that what I read was real, this one company has its hands in every pot. I have also noticed how
much media means to people, I was speaking to one of my friends and I mentioned that I thought
marvel was better that DC and she became very upset at me. It occurred to me that being a DC
comics fan was a part of her identity, before I knew that people took entertainment personally but
it was not actively looking for it. I have increased my ability to analyze the media I consume,
now I am more aware of the way industries target audiences. One of the easiest ways this can be
seen is in commercials, advertisers make there for a specific audience, video game commercials are
a good example Game of Wart has a woman in its commercials who speaks in an alluring voice and
invites audiences to come join her. She is there for the male gaze, men are the desired customers
that companies look for, so she is there as a way of saying that this game will make the player feel
special and receive the

Most Positive Intervention
In my opinion, the most beneficial intervention for making people happier than they actually are is
the Three good things in life . In this intervention, each person needs to write three good things that
happened to him during the current day and what, in his opinion, caused these good things. I think
it s the most beneficial intervention due to the feelingit causes you and the consciousness it makes
on your mind, as well as the influence on your environment.
The first reason I think writing three good things is the most beneficial intervention is related to the
fact that most of the people tend to think only about the bad things they go through during the day.
When a person writes down the good things that went well on each day, it might

John Marshall Website
College websites serve a variety of purposes for prospective and current students, which include, but
are not limited to, generating information, data collection, and facilitating online transactions.
Accelerated accessibility of web presence through a variety of platforms, from desktops to
smartphones, propels websites to the forefront of many colleges introduction to prospective
students. The aesthetic composition of websites is as significant as is practicality in our modern
technological age, and mastery or shortcomings in either attribute can engender positive or negative
assumptions respectively from visitors. Approximately 80 percent of websitevisitors assume that
the design of a website is reflective of the entity it represents, according to researchers (Lowry 63).
Subsequently, I have decided to conduct an analysis of Atlanta s John Marshall Law School s

The Devil and Tom Walker
In the short story The Devil and Tom Walker , the author shows greed by the main character
selling his soul for a large treasure, being a cheap and greedy moneylender, and the lack of the
main character and his wife sharing the wealth between each other in order to show that people will
do anything for money and become rich.
The Devil and Tom Walkerwas written by Washington Irving. Washington was a very famous
American author. Washington Irving was born in New York on April 3, 1783. In his childhood he
only went through a basic education. During this time, he showed interest in reading and writing
(Washington). In 1815, Irving moved to London to work for his family s business. But, the family
business closed due to failure. After that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The devil does this in order to obtain Tom Walkers soul. As a moneylender, Tom Walker has very
bad morals. When he is a moneylender he puts people out of bussiness and tries to make profit
off the peoples losses. Washingtong Irving descrbies Tom Walker as, Thus Tom was universal
friend of the needy, and acted like a friend in need ; that is to say, he always exacted good pay
and good security. In proportion to the distress of the applicant was the hardness of the terms.
He accumulated bonds and mortgages gradually squeezing his customers closer and closer, and
sent them at length, dry as a sponge, from his door (33). Tom Walker doesn t seem to care about
what his afterlife has in store for him. Everything he is doing is just making him worse as a
person. This shows how Tom Walker was greedy and how some people will do anything to make
money.
Washington Irving also shows the theme of greed by how Tom Walker was a very cheap and
greedy moneylender. During the time of this setting in The Devil and Tom Walker, people tried to
do anything to make money. Joyce states, while many had a keen sense of business, pothers were
unethical in their dogged pursuit of riches (102). This statement illustrates Tom Walker very. When
Tom was discussing the terms of the deal with the devil, Tom wanted to make his interest rate even
higher then what the devil origianally planned. Then devil said, You shall

Irish Ring Research Paper
If an archaeologist were to go into my room they would discover a silver ring that sits on top of a
bookshelf. The ring is small, about a size six. Halfway through, the band is interrupted by two
hands with cuffs holding a heart with a crown on it. The design is very detailed. The cuffs aren t
perfectly square, they re a little wider on the side distal to the hands. Five ridges about one
centimeter apart are on the cuffs. A protruding ring separates the cuffs and hands. The first four
fingers hold the bottom of the heart while the thumb holds the top of the heart. Each finger ends in
a small fingernail marked by a half circle. A lot of detail is used to differentiate each finger and
fingernail. At its widest part, the heart is about one centimeter... Show more content on

Based on the archaeologist s observations, it can be assumed that the ring was worn often but
they wouldn t be able to confirm that I wear this ring everyday or that it is actually a special type
of ring called a Claddagh ring. Nor would they be able to determine just how important this
object is to me. One of the reasons that this ring is so important to me is because it connects me
to my Irish heritage. Claddagh rings are a type of traditional Irish ring. I am fourth generation
Irish and very in touch with my heritage. Practicing tradition is very important to me and this ring
itself has so much meaning in it. The hands represent friendship, the heart represent love and the
crown represents loyalty. Depending on how one wears the ring their relationship status is
represented. By wearing the ring on your left hand with the bottom of the heart facing your palm
you are saying that you are married, whereas if you wear it on the same hand but with the bottom
of the heart facing your fingertips you re no longer saying you are married but engaged. You are
representing that you are in a relationship if you wear it on your right hand with the bottom of the
heart facing your palm but if the bottom of the heart is facing your fingertips that means you re

The Ethics Around Disaster Management
1.Introduction
This paper will examine and discuss the ethics around disaster management, evidence based
practice, and public health care in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that destroyed the wide part of
New Orleans in the United States of America.
2.Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina occurred on August 23, 2005, befalling in the course of seven days in Florida,
along the Gulf Coast in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama initially killing between 1,300 and
2,000 people and displacing 650,000 residents, (Department of Homeland Security [DHS], 2006,
p. 1; Knabb, Rhome, Brown, 2006; U.S. Department of Commerce, 2006 as cited in Lowe
Rhodes, 2013, p. 398). The storm s damage reinforced the previously ignored warnings made
years prior for New Orleans and surrounding areas in need of protection from not only category 3
hurricanes, but category 4 hurricanes also, (American RadioWorks, 2002; O Hanlon, 2002).
Furthermore, the response to the disaster has been criticised such as the works of federal, state and
local levels of government particularly Congress, the Federal Emergency Management Agency
[FEMA], and the Bush administration, (Boaz, 2005; Edwards, 2015). Due to the rapid development
of communication and transportation technologies, a fast international response to disasters is
made possible and with this comes the opportunity to sort out ethical issues that could occur in
disaster relief (Gordijn Have, 2015, p. 1). When ethics is involved in a disaster

Antisemitism In The Holocaust
In contemporary society holocaust literature is considered rudimentary by intellectuals, to
continuously remind young scholars about the Third Reich and Nazi crimes against Jews. Deep
reflection allows one to understand the desperation driving the nation in their pursuit of worldwide
domination. The serious nature associated with Holocaust causes the authors to be weary as not to
lower standards by creating a pulp fiction narrative. The authors strive to positively compound the
subject s potential, and gain momentum toward standards in integrity. Therefore, these authors
choose not to resort to secularism, deriving inspiration from Jewish culture and religion. For the
sake of the reader, the balance lies at maintaining respect for self and ancestors, while also keeping
audience interest. These authors burdened themselves with the survival of a people. At the core of
antisemitism is the denial of Jewish history, and especially the holocaust. Modern anti Semitism isn
t based on religion, but on the theory that Jewsare an inferior race. These ideas derive from the
Enlightenment period (17th 18th century) in Europe. The same ideals that motivated the German
sponsored holocaust of the 20th century.
The problem of how to tell the survivor s story through narrative raises the question of how can
you tell the story of a survivor whose people have been oppressed throughout history, and are still
oppressed to this date? A more abstract antithesis can be how to tell the victims

Dallek used many different sources throughout his biography. He referenced secondary sources
from several biographies and articles about Truman, as well as primary sources such as Truman
s autobiography and memoirs, private records, and accounts from those who worked with
Truman. Dallek used subscripts each time he referenced another work to cite exactly where he
got his information, even down to the page number. This format made all of the information
seem reliable, and allowed the reader to trust everything that they read. The wide variety of
types of sources allowed the reader to see and understand Truman s life from several different
perspectives. Dallek describes each chapter of Truman s life in great detail. In Truman s early
years, he live on his parent s farm in Independence, Missouri. After serving in World War I, he
began his political career when he became a judge of Jackson County, Missouri. He served as a
judge for eight years before running for Missouri senator, an election that he won by a landslide.
Because Truman was hardworking, along with the fact that he was not too liberal and not too
conservative, he caught the attention of President Roosevelt and was chosen as Roosevelt s vice
president during the final stages of World War II. Then, barely three months later, Roosevelt died
and Truman became president. Truman suddenly had

The Overall Affect Of School Cancellations On The Class...
One thing that I learned this week was the overall affect of school cancellations on the class

prepared and lesson plans. However, with that being said, Mr. Allen and I have gone through each
and every day to planthe lessons until March 6th, which is when I leave. The difficulty that has
arisen is the amount of snow days that Brewer Community School has had. Last weeks two

It is both sad and frustrating, as there was a tremendous amount of work put in to the planning
process. In the beginning I was looking forward to snow days, as they seemed like a break from
teaching, but now I look at snow days and think how much of a head ache they are. It is nice to
have a day off from school, but the amount of work put into planning is essentially wasted and
free time that a teacher could have had is gone. Therefore, I am no praying that there are no
more snow days and even if I am ever a teacher, I hope there is not, as time is wasted and overall,
all that a teacher gets out of a snow day is a headache from frustration and re planning. Looking
into the future, I believe that I will plan mini lesson plans for early release days, morning delays
and even try to modify lesson plans for snow cancellations. Mr Allen, like myself, like to plan
everything out and the thought of a class going ahead of another would stress me out, so in the
event of an early release, or even morning delay, I believe that I will have lesson plans for this
event that are connected to the material, but not essential. For example, a lesson plan that has
research time and then a class debate would be one. While another example might be a current
event lesson plan that introduces the class to a topic such as ISIS or the events

both public and private water suppliers, which provide water to others. Public supply water usages
would have to deal with domestic, commercial, industrial purposes, and public serves such as
pool, parks, firefighting, etc. Public water supply plays a huge role in many counties, and
communities. The reason why is because the public water supply systems that are located in these
counties/communities are government or facilities that are privately run. These public water
supply systems are what provides people with water to use on an everyday basis. The water that is

Racial Ideologies in Frederick Douglass and Linda Brent s Narratives 4) Slavery was justified by
racial ideology. Consider three texts, including one that was written by a former slave. How do the
authors either replicate or refute racial ideologies common in the nineteenth century?
I am going to focus on the narratives of Frederick Douglass and Linda Brent as examples of a
refusal of racial ideologies and Harriet Beecher Stowe s Uncle Tom s Cabin as an example of
replicating (although attempting to refute) racial ideologies of the day. Douglass s Narrative and

. . as the author s attempts to enter . . . into Society: by (re )writing him or herself, and thus placing
that self into the tradition of American autobiography, s/he provides proof of American identity (91).
This can be seen in Douglass s constant quest for knowledge. In the beginning, he focuses on his
total ignorance so that throughout the narrative, it is easy for the reader to understand the progress
he has been making. The best example of the mind requiring liberation before the body is Douglass
s fight with Covey.
This man mentally abuses his slaves by making them fear his constant watch. The fear is a direct
result of the threat of punishment if they do not adhere to his strict rules: they will be beat. In
beating his slaves, Covey turns them into just another body; he never sees their mind. Douglass
wants to be move than just another body. He needs to free his mind in order to free his body. In
order to gain his freedom, Douglass must use his body and physically fight Covey. Through this
fight, he frees his mind of the fear of ever being whipped again. Douglass claims that he was never
again what might be called fairly whipped, though I remained a slave four years afterwards (43).
Through this episode, Douglass proves that first the mind must be liberated, and the body will
eventually (maybe not immediately) follow.

We fought and froze and died for an empire that has no purpose page 151. The war seems to
deaden the soldiers souls. An example of this is on page 134 I could think of nothing at all. I
was an automaton without emotion or hope . In the end the soldiers break down totally they
degenerate into despair and become like animals, as shown on page 232: Within the space of a few
days we had become skeletons, rooting for food like pigs.
The horror and hostility of the war made the soldiers despair so much that they were happy to
die Dear mother, I came into this world in a state of innocence and leave it so utterly wearied
that I am contented to die. This was how they ended up after all the atrocities they had witnessed
and committed. War is a dirty business. We all have to do terrible things. Mandras almost God like
in his beauty at the beginning, kills an old man; the war seemed to deaden all their feelings and
sympathy. They are left without emotion or hope .
By describing this degradation of morale and emotions, Louis de
Bernieres powerfully shows the physical and mental effect of war on the soldiers. A good example
of this deterioration is Mandras. Before the war he was physically beautiful, harmonious in the way
he moved, and strong. He had slim hips...sharp shoulders...a taught stomach that made him look
powerful and sculpted. However, after the war, he

Text, Context, And Context
Text and Context
1.)Text Any media item photographs, advertisements, films, magazines, books, websites, television
programs, newspaper articles and so on.
Context Production contexts Finding out the acknowledged motivations of those involved in
production. (pg. 93)
Distribution contexts The two main contexts are space and time, where the text is being read and
when it is being read. (pg. 94)
Audience contexts Any reader may hold only hold for a particular audience. (pg. 97)
When looking at the text within a context, different types of contextuality are explore. Production
contexts, distribution contexts, and audience contexts. Production context is the study of how texts
are produced; in this case, looking at this ad, it was not something difficult to create, most likely
created by 1 3 people, printed off and posted. When looking at distribution contexts, space is an
important element. Different types of media are located in different spaces , in this case this poster
is located in a university in order to affect the texts intended meaning. Audience contexts are the
study of how audiences use and make sense of the text. There are two types of audiences in this
case, the inscribed reader and the actual reader. The inscribed reader is who the media is
deliberately addressed too, which in this case is most likely university students, typically ones that
consume alcohol. The actual reader is anyone else who comes across this poster, which could be

Stump Grinding
A Few Things To Know About Stump Grinding If you ve worked hard the last few weekends
chopping down a tree in your yard, you now have to decide what to do about the stump. Digging
a stump out of the ground is difficult work, if it is even possible. You could pull it out with a
truck, but then you have to dispose of the big stump. The most efficient and easy way to get rid
of a tree stump in your yard is to grind it. Here is some more information. Deciding On DIY Or
Professional Removal If you only have one stump to grind, you might as well hire a tree service
professional and save yourself the trouble of renting a grinder and doing the work yourself.
Renting a grinder for the day costs about the same as having a professional remove one tree. If
you re trying to save money, then you ll want to get a quote. The price depends on the size of the
tree, its location, and the type of tree since trees have wood of varying hardness. The only time it
might make sense to rent a grinder is if you have multiple small to medium stumps to grind and
you re capable of working... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best scenario is to have the main roots ground away several inches below the soil. This helps
keep the tree from sending up shoots and growing back. It also makes room for new tree roots to
grow if you plan to put in another tree. There are different types of stump grinders on the market.
If you rent one, you may be limited to a small model that isn t capable of grinding deep into the
roots. Some commercial stump grinders fit on tractors or trucks and can chew up stumps all the
way down to the main roots a few feet into the ground. Consider what you plan to do with the
space once the tree is gone when determining how to handle the roots. If you decide on shallow
grinding, then you ll want to watch the space and cut back shoots when they appear so a new tree
doesn t start growing where you don t want

Descriptive Essay About A Dog
Growing up I had a black lab named Jake . He was a present that my brother Chad had received for
his 12th birthday . We had adopted Jake from a shelter and it was soon to be realized that this
dog was attached to me . The dog would bark at anyone or anything that came near me . After
weeks of trying to get the dog to like other family members in the house nothing work , the dog was
mine . This made my brother extremely furious and has given me the responsibility to take care of
the dog . After days of rubbing it in my brother s face I started to realize that having a dog was a lot
of work , especially the daily walks . It was winter now and talking the dog for daily walks have
become a pain . At the time I was 8 years old , I was told that I could walk around the block with
the dog . It had just previously snowed a couple of hours before . The snow was thick and heavy,
it was becoming hard to walk in . Walking down the large slope street, all I could think about is
getting back home and curling up on the nice big couch and watch tv . The big 75 pound dog
was overly powerful than I the 8 year old girl . This became apparent when a stray cat ran across
the street . In that very moment, the dog s jet black fur raised and his deep growl emerged. His
eyes were focused on the grey stray cat crossing the snowy street. The dog pushed and pulled on
the leash causing my fingers to get tender and raw. I tried to pull the leash and gain control over
the angry dog, but I failed. He

The Ice Of Old Vodka Bottles
As I took another drink from my glass, I glanced at the bartender another look assuming he knew
what I wanted. The bar was old. You would look over the counter and see dust covering old
vodka bottles. I hate this bar. It was just another Friday I have wasted. The bar was sticky with
liquor, the stools were squeaky with every move. For a barsmelling like booze and vomit, it was
cramped on a Friday night. This wasn t my first breakup, I ve had many before. There was Jenny.
She was protective, always checking my phone thinking there was always another, she ended
that one. There was also Ashley. She was sweet, maybe too sweet. She was always wanting to do
something for me whether it was buying me a golden watch or love, it was always something. I
quickly ended that relationship. Besides those girls there was much more, currently it s Amy.
Like Ashley she was nice, but like Jenny, kinda crazy. What broke me off was her long towards
commitment she had. I don t like commitment, commitment means being trapped and being
trapped means no freedom. Commitment for me, is a big no no. As the bartender slid me
another drink someone stopped me in my tracks. It was a girl, she had short jean shorts and a
KISS top on, she looked around the age of 22, which was fine by me considering I ll be 23 in
November. She had long blonde hair that swayed as she walked. She looked around the bar trying
to find a seat and noticed the empty one next to me, she sat down and pulled out

Strife and The Silver Box
In Down and Out in Paris and London Orwell describes and discusses poverty as he saw and
experienced it. Orwell describes that poverty is not the way people expect it to be. People, who
have never personally experienced poverty, believe that it must be terrible, Orwell tells us that it
is not, he says that it is squalid and boring . He also says that poverty and therefore, hunger
degrade a man to a belly with some additional organs . Orwell has written Down and Out in Paris

Orwell had no experience of being poor so he often handled his money badly and went a day
without food. Sometimes he smuggled out some clothes to take them to the pawnshop to get
some money. The pawnshop reflects the total poverty people were living in because Orwell had
to queue for a long time because so many people need to sell their belongings to be able to live.
There were many tramps in London at the time Orwell writes about and these tramps had to stay
in the spikes . The spikes are dirty and very basic and the tramps only stay in one of the spikes in
London for one night per month and only have two nights a month in the other spikes. There
were problems with small pox, beatles and other bugs, urine, dirt and also there was a problem
homosexuality which may have been caused due to the fact that these men were cut off from
women because of the way they were forced to live. Orwell says that the world of poverty is
primarily a man s world with less than ten percent of those on the bum being women. The power
of the law is very obvious to see, the tramps are not allowed to loiter, beg or smoke on or around
the streets. The religious organisation Orwell talks about seems to abuse the tramps slightly

Rid Of Racism In America
Racism in America these days is too common, and is also the cause of the Black Lives Matter
riots and arguments. My idea to get rid of racism in America is to eliminate race altogether,
without race then racism wouldn t be a problem at all, that s why my idea is the best.. Most
citizens make racist jokes without even knowing it, and even when they do realize it, they don t
make any effort to make up for it. Without races these jokes wouldn t be funny because they
wouldn t even exist. The main reason people are racist is because they see other races as different,
or strange, and even alien. Raceshould not determine how you treat them, or see them as. Just
because someone could be white or black, doesn t mean it s right to treat them

Strategic Human Resource Development
Introduction
There is now a general acceptance of a stakeholder theory of the modern organization (see, e.g.[1,
2,3]). Such a theory implies that managers have a duty to stakeholders. Stakeholders are defined as
those groups who have a stake in or claim on the firm. Translated to the human resource
development (HRD) context it suggests that each stakeholder group has a right not to be treated as
a means to some end and should therefore participate in determining the future direction of human
resource development activities within the organization.
The evolution of a strategic HRD concept has also highlighted the need for the application of a
stakeholder theory to HRD within the organization. Commentators such as Sparrow and Pettigrew[

The first is that the current state of the HRD function is the result of the supporting and the
resisting forces brought to bear on the function by the stakeholders. Thus the present status of the
HRD function is at best a temporary balance of opposing forces. Some of these forces provide
resources and support to the function while others serve as barriers or constraints. The forces are
generated by stakeholders in the course of pursuing their specific interests, goals and objectives.
The second premiss is that the outcomes of the HRD function s strategies are the collective result
of all the forces brought to bear on it by its stakeholders during implementation. The function is
always in a state of quasi equilibrium as it attempts to balance the various stakeholder forces. Each
time the HRD function acts and its stakeholders respond, a new temporary balance is achieved. The
status and performance of the HRD function at a given point in the future depends on the
equilibrium it achieves throughout the period it is implementing its strategies.
These two premisses lead to an important conclusion. The validity of the strategies implemented by
the HRD function always depend on the assumptions that are made about its stakeholders and about
the steps they will take during the planning and implementation of HRD strategies to involve key
stakeholders.

The Zika Virus
The Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mosquito borne single stranded RNA virus. It is in the family of
Flaviviridae, genus Flavivirus. This virus causes a mild illness similar to dengue. The first case of
ZIKV was identified in Uganda in 1947. Cases of this virus were rare until 2007 when a major
epidemic happened in Yap Island, Micronesia. Now, epidemics have happened in Polynesia, Easter
Island, the Cook Islands, Brazil, and New Caledonia (Ioos et al., 2014).
During the first week of infection, the virus is in the blood and can be passed from an infected
person to a mosquito. An infected mosquito can then spread the virus to other people. The most
common symptoms of ZIKV are fever, rash, joint pain, or red eyes. Other common symptoms

Beetroot Lab Report
The Effect of Temperature on the Light Transmission on the Permeability of a Beetroot Cell
When the bathing solution is between 3В°C and 60В°C the light transmission decreases. The light
transmission decreases more rapidly when the bathing solution is over 60В°C. The amount of
beetroot pigment released does increase as the bathing temperature increases. The light
transmission average was 85.8% when the bathing solution was 3В°C so less pigment was
released. At 80В°C the light transmission was 33.0% which shows that more pigment was released
from the beetroot cell at a higher temperature.
The cell membrane increases in fluidity as the temperature begins to increase (3В°C to 60В°C).

It would be difficult to keep the temperature constant for this amount of time so we put the boiling
tube with the bathing solution into a beaker of water at the required temperature. This insulted the
bathing solution so that it stayed at the right temperature for the full 2 minutes. Some groups did
not do this so over the 2 minutes the temperature was not exact. If the bathing solution was not at
the correct temperature the results may not be as reliable. Using an electronic thermostatic water
bath would keep the temperature of the bathing solution constant during the 2 minutes and therefore
the results would be more reliable.
For the lowest temperature, 3В°C, we used ice. The highest light transmission is 97% and the
lowest is 77%. This large range could be because as th experiment went on the temperature of the
ice increased. The 97% could have been measured in the beginning and the 77% measure at the
end. The results for 3В°C could be taken again all at the same time. The results taken at 20В°C
have the smallest range. This could be because it was the closest to room temperature and therefore
easier to maintain the bathing solution

Culture Vs American Culture Essay
Culture is defined as the sum total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and
transmitted from one generation to another (Staff, 2015). Culture effects the way a person
perceives, communicates and behaves in the world, what is socially acceptable in one culture is not
necessarily acceptable in another. Common language, gestures and signals are used to communicate
within each cultureand are therefore an extension of culture and how you speak is effected by
what you were taught and how you view the world. Communicating is a give and take process and

well. A study called Twins Early Development Study (TEDS) is a longitudinal twin study that is
being closely watched. The study group consists of twins born between 1994 1996 in Wales and
England. This study is researching problems in language development, cognition, and academics
in early childhood and through adolescence. There have been over 13,000 sets of twins that
remain in this study. This study has shown that environment has a considerable amount of
influence over behavior problems and/or disorders (autism spectrum disorder, ADHD). However,
antisocial disorder shows more hereditability traits. The callous unemotional personality is very
strongly inherited. Twin Study of Child and Adolescent Development (TCHAD), is another
longitudinal twin study. This study used the Swedish Twin Registry to collect a study group of
1,226 twins. The study used a behavioral scale to measure the aggression in 8 9 year olds,
reported by their parents. The 8 years later they asked the children to report on their aggression.
This study found that genetics play a large role in the early onset of aggression in children, yet
seems to play a smaller role in the development of delinquent behavior in male adolescents.

there that take up space. Also if someone doesn t have broadband than it could take a long time to
attach a document or presentation to an email and even with broadband it could take a long time
depending on the size of the file.
A good thing about most email accounts is that they are free but then
I get a lot of adverts and pop ups.
If email companies are going to give people free email then they need to get the money from
somewhere to make sure they can afford the payment of the site, this is where the adverts and pop
ups come in, other companies pay companies such as hotmail to put their adverts and pop ups on
their websites hence hotmail can pay for the upkeep of the site.
I can set up a filter on my email account so that I only receive emails from people in my address
book. The problem is though that before I can receive emails from someone I need to add them to
my address book and if someone changes their email I need to edit my address book.
The alternatives to email are fax, which can be quick but can cost a lot of money, or text that is
quick so long as the other person has their phone on; you also need signal and credit, which can be
a problem. Both can be useful if email is

Additiona Post Impressionism
It is a common theme for groups of artist to revolt against their predecessors and the common
standards that the pervious community of artist held. This is seen repeatedly from the ancient
Greeks, whose bronze and marble sculptures developed around the perfection of the male human
form, to the transition to the Romans their ideas followed the individual they sculpted busts of the
great leaders and the common people of many different ages showing the uniqueness of all of them.
This change was also apart of the architecture, Greek temples focused decorations on the outside of
the temples on the metopes with sculptures, almost in the round, to show visitors the wealth of their

Essay On The Origin Of The Civil Rights Movement

In this case Alpen bank s country manager Carle has to make a crucial decision whether or not
they should go for the credit card business in Romania. The bank has to come up with a solid
market strategy that can generate at least €5 million in profit within 2 years. Before bringing this
business to the market the Bank has to analyze whether an opportunity exists for the launch of the

Moreover, as customer base grew, profits of selecting affluent customers only were bigger than
those of selecting both middle class and affluent customers because of the fact that there was

is composed of affluent customers only. However, all of these are based on the premise that Alpen
can acquire enough customers within 2 years; otherwise, it will lose money. Nevertheless, there
was a promising fact in the Romania market that those affluent customers were more likely to at
least try Alpen s cards.
In its marketing strategy, Alpen should focus more on direct sales and branch cross selling, since
their costs per customer (relatively €3.61 and €2.92) are significant lower than those of other

much higher effective hit rate than the other options regardless the target audience choices. Thus,

The Tragedy Of Romeo Is To Blame In Romeo And Juliet
Young love is a subject that many authors write about and many people enjoy reading about. In
these stories it s great when everything works out for the young couple, but sometimes it doesn t
work out and there s always someone at fault. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet,
Romeo is to blame for both himself and Juliet dying at the end of the play. It is Romeo s fault
because he rushed into decisions, kept secrets from those that could help him, and there
ultimately could have been a better solution. Romeo rushed into decisions and didn t think about
his choices. Early in the play, Romeo says I ll go along, no such sight to be shown, But to
rejoice in splendor of mine own. (Romeo and Juliet Act I Scene II) agreeing to go to the Capulet
s party with his friends only to see Rosaline, the girl he was in love with, and whom he had
talked so much about, but who didn t return his love, devastating him, which shows how devoted
he was to her and her alone. However later in the evening at the party he says Did my heart love
till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne er saw true beauty till this night. (Romeo and Juliet Act I
Scene V) upon seeing Juliet. He very easily forgets about the girl that he showed such devotion
and love for only hours earlier, upon seeing a more beautiful girl. Romeo was very dedicated to
his love until a better option came along, showing how he was very impulsive and inclined to act
on feelings rather than judgement. Another example of how he made a hasty decision was when he
says, I ll tell thee as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Oswald s Assassination
On November 22, President John F. Kennedy was riding in downtown Dallas when three shots
rang out, two of which were fatal. After a long interrogation the police arrested Lee Harvey
Oswald. Just because he was allegedly seen on the sixth floor of his work building with a rifle.
The police arrested him some distance from the scene of accident, at a movie theatre. How could
he have killed President Kennedy if he was at a movie theater? Some body cannot be in two
places at a time. I do not believe that he killed President Kennedy, where is innocent until
proven guilty?
Lee Harvey Oswald was born in New Orleans on the 18th October 1939. His parents were
Marguerite and Robert Oswald Sr. who died of a heart attack. His father

Metallica s And Justice For All
There are a number of reasons why I enjoy these musical acts. Although they often vary
significantly in vocals, speed, and production, all of these musical acts best works are all lyrically
interesting. For example, Metallica s ...And Justice for All is a concept album which explores
injustice in war, politics, and law. All of Rage Against the Machine s albums are politically charged,
discussing topics like police brutality, patriarchy, and apartheid. Every one of these musical acts
presents intriguing and powerful lyrics which make me want to listen closely. Generally, much of
these acts lyrics center around feelings of anger, despair, alienation, and detachment. They often
vary quite significantly in terms of theme, but their poignancy is

The Persian War Was A Series Of Wars
The Persian War was a series of wars fought amongst the great empire of Persia and the coalition of
the Greek city states, and lasted for twenty one years. The Ionian city states protested against
Persian rule, and expended their satraps and asserted their independence, which was the start of the
Ionian Revolt. Later, Darius promised to have revenge on Athens and Eretria for their revolt against
the Achaemenid empire. After the revolt Darius proclaim his rule, but it becomes more
challenging for him to sustain control. In attempt to cease future rebellion and get revenge for
their insubordination, Darius attacks, in hopes of expanding his control into Greece and
acquiring the wealth of the Greek and city states. In the mid sixth century, the Ionian Greeks had
originally lost their independences to King Croesus of Lydia (Lindsey 11). Croesus wanted to
attack a territory in Anatolia that was previously in the Median kingdom, so he consulted with an
Oracle for advice about invading a territory the Persian wanted to claim. Consequently, he lost all
of his territory including Ionia to Cyrus, Persian king because he did not listen to the Oracle
instructions (Martin 127). By 499 B.C., the Ionians started a revolt against the Greek tyrants
because they were not happy about being ruled by someone else (Lindsey 11). An Ionian leader
traveled to mainland Greece seeking military aid for the rebellion. The Peninsular Greeks joined in
and helped the Ionian city. According to Ancient

The Han-Chinese Conflict
There are many conflicts that exist around the world today. One of these conflicts includes the
conflict between the Uighurs and Han Chinese. This conflict has been occurring within the
Xinjiang region for many years now. The Xinjiang region is located within China in the upper west
side of the state. In 1775 the Qing dynastyhad a region of various Turkic, Mongol, and Chinese
groups under control. The Xinjiang Province became the first establishment of the Chinese
Imperial in 1884. After the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912 the Xinjiang province was ruled by
the Uighur group known as the East Turkestan Islamic Group. The Uighurs is a Muslim and
ethnically Turkic population that regard themselves as culturally and ethnically close to Central
Asian nations. East Turkestan lies in the heart of Asia and is the homeland of the Turkic speaking
Uighurs and central Asia people such as Kazaks, Kyrgyz, Tatars, Uzbeks, and Tajiks.

chafed under Chinese rule and protested the steady influx of ethnic Chinese into the region. There
was tension between he Uighur population and Han Chinese ethnic western China that resulted in
violence and terrorism. For many years, many Uighurs and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang
have agitated against China authoritarian government. The Uighurs protest to oppressive official
policies, religious restrictions and widespread discrimination. At any rate, there are multitude of
reasons for the conflict that exists between the Uighurs and the Han Chinese, such as conflicts over
political religion and natural resources (mainly oil), as well as the struggle for regional

The Problem Of E Waste
E Waste may be described as a broad and growing range of electronics ranging from large
household devices such as refrigerators, air conditioners, cell phones, personal stereos and
consumer electronics to computers, which have been discarded by their users. (Puckett and Smith,
2002). While this description is accurate, it is slightly ambiguous about the length of time before a
device can actually be considered waste. Often, owners discard their electronics long before they
have reached the end of their actual life cycle in order to upgrade to a newer model. In most
cases the outgoing device finds its way into the used market. This may prolong the life of the
product by a few years, however all electronic items eventually reach a point... Show more content

With devices becoming increasingly affordable, the replacement time for common consumer
electronics has also become shorter. Planned obsolescence is a significant contributor to the
increase in purchase of consumer electronics. Many companies these days limit software updates
and features to only a handful of new phones or tablets they offer, thus perpetuating the need to
go out and purchase the new model. The average use time before a consumer replaces their
mobile phone is only 18 months even though it s actual life cycle may be much longer than that.
PCs and laptops are usually considered outdated within 3 4 years of purchase and are then
replaced by their owners for newer and faster models. Studies have estimated e waste generation
worldwide at 20 to 50 million tonnes per year with a steady increase of 8% to 10% annually. One
of the methods to estimate the potential volume of e waste in the present and the future is by
analyzing sales figures of commercial electronics. By taking into account how much we are
buying, we may be able to approximate how much will be added to this waste stream a few years
down the line when newly purchased devices become obsolete and are discarded. On the release of
the latest iPad, electronic buy back firms stated that consumers were trading in their older tablets at
an unprecedented rate for the new iteration even though their older tablets were completely
functional and working.

Summary Of A Red Rose By Robert Burns
Robert Burns A Red Red Rose On the romanticism era Robert Burns wrote the poem named A Red
Red Rose. In this poem Burns writes about his love for a girl and how strong and deep it is for her,
as he says I will love thee still my dear, till a the seas gang dry. Robert Burns was born on January
25th, 1759 in Alloway Scotland. Parents William Burns and Agnes Broun, his parents were farmers,
though they lived in that life of farming they wanted their son Robert Burnsto have and receive a
good education and when he started getting the education they wanted him to have, burns also
started to read more and started to have a huge place in his heart for poetry. Burns father died in
1784 in bankruptcy and then bruns and his brother Gilbert took over the farm, but that didn t
stop him from reading and getting influenced by different famous people. He was influenced by
different poets like Alexander Pope, Henry Mackenzie, and Laurence Sterne; His hard physical
labour on the family is what increasingly turned his attention toward the passion of poetry. Robert
Burns turned his full attention to poetry after what happened with his family and at age of
fifteen he fell in love and wrote his first poem, burns pursued both love and poetry. In 1785 he
fathered the first of his fourteen children and between 1784 and 1785 burns collected in his first
collection which was Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect and was printed in 1786 and was also paid
for by subscriptions. That poem was immediately one of the best and robert was celebrated
throughout England and Scotland as a great peasant poet. He wrote many more poems and later
in 1788 he got married to Jean Armour and fathered twins, but a split in their marriage nearly led
to burns moving to the west indies with his other lover Mary Campbell, later with Mary s sudden
death and his sensational success of his first published collection that kept him in scotland, burns
became very known and famous across the country of scotland at just 27 years old. Burns would
not only make poems but would also sometimes turn them into songs and give them for someone to
perform. In just 18 months Burns spent all his wealth from what he got from when he published his
poem, and

  • 3. Fear and Confusion in films Psycho and Carrie Essay Fear and Confusion in films Psycho and Carrie In horror films, there is always one scene that opens up the perceived realm of normality to that of fear and confusion. Directors and authors alike use these scenes to show the change in the pace of the film. In both the movie Psycho (1960) and Carrie (1976), shower scenes are used to mark this epic turning point with sexuality, blood and voyeurism; the most important ingredients to horror. The idea of sneaking around and peering into forbidden places gives just about everyone a thrill. Voyeurism is used strongly in both Psychoand Carrie due to its ability to entice thrill in the viewer. In Carrie, we start the scene by looking into a girls high ... We are then given an extreme close up of Norman s eye, staring wide into the room; the view we have gives us the thrill of actually being there, watching Marion undress. This method of filming, giving the audience the sight of the forbidden, adds thrill to the important scenes. Thrill only encourages us to watch the movie more intently, on the edge of our seats. Sexuality also adds a great deal of tension to the two scenes. We watch as Marion drops her robe to the floor and steps gingerly into the shower. Once in the shower, we are given a point of view shot of the showerhead, a huge showerhead covering her entire body with clean, warm water, cleansing her of her sins in an almost baptismal way. We are allowed only collarbone up shots of her in the shower, only hints to her nakedness. We can only imagine what she looks like, giving the audience the same thoughts that raced through Norman s mind as he looked in on her through the peephole. Carrie is also highly sexualized, more so given the fact that more nudity was allowed with the changing times. As we gaze at the different close up camera shots of her body, we watch as she reaches for the soap. The audience watches as she rubs soap all over her body in slow motion, her face complacent in both peace and pleasure. Carrie then begins to rub her breasts and her inner thigh in a very ... How are vertebrates different from chordates: Chordates are the beginning of the vertebrate phylum, they have a long flexible rod called a notochord, pharyngeal clefts, and muscular tails. The notochord runs between the digestive tract and dorsal nerve, the chord is made from stiff tissue and fluid filled cells. Vertebrates are still chordates, but they do not have a notochord, the notochord forms into vertebrae and the spine later in the development of the embryos. I believe the proposal to establish an assisted living center would be approved; however, the arguments against an establishment of a new capital investment would be valid due to it would be a new establishment. In making the investment decision, it would be imperative to form a strategic plan, therefore the financial investors, financial institutions, shareholders, and lenders would be able to visualize how the capital investment would be profitable for them as well as have a return on investment. • 7. The Song Cherry Wine By Indie Rock Artist In the song Cherry Wine , written and performed by indie rock artist Hozier, it becomes apparent early on that this is not what one might consider a typical love song; nor is it about a typical woman. Although the acoustic guitar and softer melody paint a peaceful picture, the lyrics express that there is something much deeper that lies beneath its surface. From beginning to end, every verse about this woman and his relationship with her is a contradiction, which immediately sets the tone for the way he feels being with her: it s a battle. While most lovesongs are written in hopes of appealing to a wide audience, Hozier simply writes about the faults he has found in his own relationship and how, regardless, he can t seem to walk away. Although Hozier continuously professes his love for this woman throughout this song, there are still darker lyrics and elements that should be acknowledged as well. The second verse begins with this line: Calls of guilty fall on me/ All while she stains the sheets of some other. It s very clear in this lyric that this woman has continuously accused him of being unfaithful to her all while it is implied that she is the one who has been unfaithful. It is not just coincidence that, a few lines before, Hozier says It looks ugly, but it s clean. Oh mama, don t fuss over me, which suggests that his friends and family are concerned about this relationship but he insists that it isn t as bad as it looks. It s interesting how these two verses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Media Reflection Paper Today the life revolves around media, it is on people s phones, media decorate their walls, and for some media is their job. Since media is such an inescapable part of the modern landscape it is significant that we as individuals understand how the media works and how it affects us. In this course, the nature of the mediahas been unraveled to reveal the ways that it has impacted society and how it has done this. This class has made me became more critical of the media in my life and now even without thinking I recognize patterns, and in some cases toxic themes in the media I consume. Looking back on this semester and what I have learned I can see that I have become more media literate in many ways, primarily in the areas of awareness and analysis. I have become more aware of the way media is constructed. Some things that have stood out to me since I have started this course is for example the other day when I flew into the ST. Louis airport after Thanksgiving break one of the monitors in baggage claim said that it was CLear Channel TV before this course I do not know what clear channel was and I knew that the entertainment business was an oligopoly but I did not realize the extent. Seeing this was a moment of realization, that what I read was real, this one company has its hands in every pot. I have also noticed how much media means to people, I was speaking to one of my friends and I mentioned that I thought marvel was better that DC and she became very upset at me. It occurred to me that being a DC comics fan was a part of her identity, before I knew that people took entertainment personally but it was not actively looking for it. I have increased my ability to analyze the media I consume, now I am more aware of the way industries target audiences. One of the easiest ways this can be seen is in commercials, advertisers make there for a specific audience, video game commercials are a good example Game of Wart has a woman in its commercials who speaks in an alluring voice and invites audiences to come join her. She is there for the male gaze, men are the desired customers that companies look for, so she is there as a way of saying that this game will make the player feel special and receive the ... In this intervention, each person needs to write three good things that happened to him during the current day and what, in his opinion, caused these good things. I think it s the most beneficial intervention due to the feelingit causes you and the consciousness it makes on your mind, as well as the influence on your environment. In proportion to the distress of the applicant was the hardness of the terms. He accumulated bonds and mortgages gradually squeezing his customers closer and closer, and sent them at length, dry as a sponge, from his door (33). Tom Walker doesn t seem to care about what his afterlife has in store for him. Everything he is doing is just making him worse as a person. This shows how Tom Walker was greedy and how some people will do anything to make money. Washington Irving also shows the theme of greed by how Tom Walker was a very cheap and greedy moneylender. During the time of this setting in The Devil and Tom Walker, people tried to do anything to make money. Joyce states, while many had a keen sense of business, pothers were unethical in their dogged pursuit of riches (102). This statement illustrates Tom Walker very. Halfway through, the band is interrupted by two hands with cuffs holding a heart with a crown on it. The design is very detailed. The cuffs aren t perfectly square, they re a little wider on the side distal to the hands. Five ridges about one centimeter apart are on the cuffs. A protruding ring separates the cuffs and hands. The Ethics Around Disaster Management 1.Introduction This paper will examine and discuss the ethics around disaster management, evidence based practice, and public health care in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that destroyed the wide part of New Orleans in the United States of America. 2.Hurricane Katrina Hurricane Katrina occurred on August 23, 2005, befalling in the course of seven days in Florida, along the Gulf Coast in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama initially killing between 1,300 and 2,000 people and displacing 650,000 residents, (Department of Homeland Security [DHS], 2006, p. 1; Knabb, Rhome, Brown, 2006; U.S. Department of Commerce, 2006 as cited in Lowe Rhodes, 2013, p. 398). The storm s damage reinforced the previously ignored warnings made years prior for New Orleans and surrounding areas in need of protection from not only category 3 hurricanes, but category 4 hurricanes also, (American RadioWorks, 2002; O Hanlon, 2002). Furthermore, the response to the disaster has been criticised such as the works of federal, state and local levels of government particularly Congress, the Federal Emergency Management Agency [FEMA], and the Bush administration, (Boaz, 2005; Edwards, 2015). Due to the rapid development of communication and transportation technologies, a fast international response to disasters is made possible and with this comes the opportunity to sort out ethical issues that could occur in disaster relief (Gordijn Have, 2015, p. 1). • 15. Antisemitism In The Holocaust In contemporary society holocaust literature is considered rudimentary by intellectuals, to continuously remind young scholars about the Third Reich and Nazi crimes against Jews. Deep reflection allows one to understand the desperation driving the nation in their pursuit of worldwide domination. The serious nature associated with Holocaust causes the authors to be weary as not to lower standards by creating a pulp fiction narrative. The authors strive to positively compound the subject s potential, and gain momentum toward standards in integrity. Therefore, these authors choose not to resort to secularism, deriving inspiration from Jewish culture and religion. For the sake of the reader, the balance lies at maintaining respect for self and ancestors, while also keeping audience interest. These authors burdened themselves with the survival of a people. At the core of antisemitism is the denial of Jewish history, and especially the holocaust. Modern anti Semitism isn t based on religion, but on the theory that Jewsare an inferior race. These ideas derive from the Enlightenment period (17th 18th century) in Europe. The same ideals that motivated the German sponsored holocaust of the 20th century. However, with that being said, Mr. Allen and I have gone through each and every day to planthe lessons until March 6th, which is when I leave. The difficulty that has arisen is the amount of snow days that Brewer Community School has had. Mr. Allen plans his units to only last a week and on Fridays, quizzes are taken to check for understanding. We were lucky that last week only had two days worth of notes,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is both sad and frustrating, as there was a tremendous amount of work put in to the planning process. In the beginning I was looking forward to snow days, as they seemed like a break from teaching, but now I look at snow days and think how much of a head ache they are. It is nice to have a day off from school, but the amount of work put into planning is essentially wasted and free time that a teacher could have had is gone. Therefore, I am no praying that there are no more snow days and even if I am ever a teacher, I hope there is not, as time is wasted and overall, all that a teacher gets out of a snow day is a headache from frustration and re planning. Looking into the future, I believe that I will plan mini lesson plans for early release days, morning delays and even try to modify lesson plans for snow cancellations. Mr Allen, like myself, like to plan everything out and the thought of a class going ahead of another would stress me out, so in the event of an early release, or even morning delay, I believe that I will have lesson plans for this event that are connected to the material, but not essential. This can be seen in Douglass s constant quest for knowledge. In the beginning, he focuses on his total ignorance so that throughout the narrative, it is easy for the reader to understand the progress he has been making. The best example of the mind requiring liberation before the body is Douglass s fight with Covey. This man mentally abuses his slaves by making them fear his constant watch. The fear is a direct result of the threat of punishment if they do not adhere to his strict rules: they will be beat. In beating his slaves, Covey turns them into just another body; he never sees their mind. Douglass wants to be move than just another body. He needs to free his mind in order to free his body. In order to gain his freedom, Douglass must use his body and physically fight Covey. Through this fight, he frees his mind of the fear of ever being whipped again. Douglass claims that he was never again what might be called fairly whipped, though I remained a slave four years afterwards (43). In the end the soldiers break down totally they degenerate into despair and become like animals, as shown on page 232: Within the space of a few days we had become skeletons, rooting for food like pigs. The horror and hostility of the war made the soldiers despair so much that they were happy to die Dear mother, I came into this world in a state of innocence and leave it so utterly wearied that I am contented to die. This was how they ended up after all the atrocities they had witnessed and committed. War is a dirty business. We all have to do terrible things. Mandras almost God like in his beauty at the beginning, kills an old man; the war seemed to deaden all their feelings and sympathy. They are left without emotion or hope . By describing this degradation of morale and emotions, Louis de Bernieres powerfully shows the physical and mental effect of war on the soldiers. A good example of this deterioration is Mandras. • 27. Strategic Human Resource Development Introduction There is now a general acceptance of a stakeholder theory of the modern organization (see, e.g.[1, 2,3]). Such a theory implies that managers have a duty to stakeholders. Stakeholders are defined as those groups who have a stake in or claim on the firm. Translated to the human resource development (HRD) context it suggests that each stakeholder group has a right not to be treated as a means to some end and should therefore participate in determining the future direction of human resource development activities within the organization. The evolution of a strategic HRD concept has also highlighted the need for the application of a stakeholder theory to HRD within the organization. Commentators such as Sparrow and Pettigrew[ 4] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first is that the current state of the HRD function is the result of the supporting and the resisting forces brought to bear on the function by the stakeholders. Thus the present status of the HRD function is at best a temporary balance of opposing forces. Some of these forces provide resources and support to the function while others serve as barriers or constraints. The forces are generated by stakeholders in the course of pursuing their specific interests, goals and objectives. The second premiss is that the outcomes of the HRD function s strategies are the collective result of all the forces brought to bear on it by its stakeholders during implementation. The function is always in a state of quasi equilibrium as it attempts to balance the various stakeholder forces. Each time the HRD function acts and its stakeholders respond, a new temporary balance is achieved. The status and performance of the HRD function at a given point in the future depends on the equilibrium it achieves throughout the period it is implementing its strategies. These two premisses lead to an important conclusion. The validity of the strategies implemented by the HRD function always depend on the assumptions that are made about its stakeholders and about the steps they will take during the planning and implementation of HRD strategies to involve key stakeholders. • 40. The Tragedy Of Romeo Is To Blame In Romeo And Juliet Young love is a subject that many authors write about and many people enjoy reading about. In these stories it s great when everything works out for the young couple, but sometimes it doesn t work out and there s always someone at fault. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is to blame for both himself and Juliet dying at the end of the play. It is Romeo s fault because he rushed into decisions, kept secrets from those that could help him, and there ultimately could have been a better solution. Romeo rushed into decisions and didn t think about his choices. Early in the play, Romeo says I ll go along, no such sight to be shown, But to rejoice in splendor of mine own. (Romeo and Juliet Act I Scene II) agreeing to go to the Capulet s party with his friends only to see Rosaline, the girl he was in love with, and whom he had talked so much about, but who didn t return his love, devastating him, which shows how devoted he was to her and her alone. However later in the evening at the party he says Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne er saw true beauty till this night. (Romeo and Juliet Act I Scene V) upon seeing Juliet. He very easily forgets about the girl that he showed such devotion and love for only hours earlier, upon seeing a more beautiful girl. Romeo was very dedicated to his love until a better option came along, showing how he was very impulsive and inclined to act on feelings rather than judgement. Another example of how he made a hasty decision was when he says, I ll tell thee as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 42. Metallica s And Justice For All There are a number of reasons why I enjoy these musical acts. Although they often vary significantly in vocals, speed, and production, all of these musical acts best works are all lyrically interesting. For example, Metallica s ...And Justice for All is a concept album which explores injustice in war, politics, and law. All of Rage Against the Machine s albums are politically charged, discussing topics like police brutality, patriarchy, and apartheid. Every one of these musical acts presents intriguing and powerful lyrics which make me want to listen closely. Generally, much of these acts lyrics center around feelings of anger, despair, alienation, and detachment. They often vary quite significantly in terms of theme, but their poignancy is ... The Ionian city states protested against Persian rule, and expended their satraps and asserted their independence, which was the start of the Ionian Revolt. Later, Darius promised to have revenge on Athens and Eretria for their revolt against the Achaemenid empire. After the revolt Darius proclaim his rule, but it becomes more challenging for him to sustain control. In attempt to cease future rebellion and get revenge for their insubordination, Darius attacks, in hopes of expanding his control into Greece and acquiring the wealth of the Greek and city states. In the mid sixth century, the Ionian Greeks had originally lost their independences to King Croesus of Lydia (Lindsey 11). Croesus wanted to attack a territory in Anatolia that was previously in the Median kingdom, so he consulted with an Oracle for advice about invading a territory the Persian wanted to claim. Consequently, he lost all of his territory including Ionia to Cyrus, Persian king because he did not listen to the Oracle instructions (Martin 127). By 499 B.C., the Ionians started a revolt against the Greek tyrants because they were not happy about being ruled by someone else (Lindsey 11). An Ionian leader traveled to mainland Greece seeking military aid for the rebellion. The Peninsular Greeks joined in and helped the Ionian city. According to Ancient ... • 45. The Problem Of E Waste E Waste may be described as a broad and growing range of electronics ranging from large household devices such as refrigerators, air conditioners, cell phones, personal stereos and consumer electronics to computers, which have been discarded by their users. (Puckett and Smith, 2002). While this description is accurate, it is slightly ambiguous about the length of time before a device can actually be considered waste. Often, owners discard their electronics long before they have reached the end of their actual life cycle in order to upgrade to a newer model. In most cases the outgoing device finds its way into the used market. This may prolong the life of the product by a few years, however all electronic items eventually reach a point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With devices becoming increasingly affordable, the replacement time for common consumer electronics has also become shorter. Planned obsolescence is a significant contributor to the increase in purchase of consumer electronics. Many companies these days limit software updates and features to only a handful of new phones or tablets they offer, thus perpetuating the need to go out and purchase the new model. The average use time before a consumer replaces their mobile phone is only 18 months even though it s actual life cycle may be much longer than that. PCs and laptops are usually considered outdated within 3 4 years of purchase and are then replaced by their owners for newer and faster models. Studies have estimated e waste generation worldwide at 20 to 50 million tonnes per year with a steady increase of 8% to 10% annually. One of the methods to estimate the potential volume of e waste in the present and the future is by analyzing sales figures of commercial electronics. By taking into account how much we are buying, we may be able to approximate how much will be added to this waste stream a few years down the line when newly purchased devices become obsolete and are discarded. On the release of the latest iPad, electronic buy back firms stated that consumers were trading in their older tablets at an unprecedented rate for the new iteration even though their older tablets were completely functional and working. ...
