1970s Communism Research Paper
During the 1970s communism started to gain popularity among Asian countries, for instance in
Vietnam and Cambodia. The communist party in Cambodia led by Pol Pot, the Kampuchea People
Revolutionary Party, started underground and slowly rose to power. The KPRP, was the most
prominent communist party at that time. This is because the ex ruler Sihanouk supported it. In the
beginning of its rule the KPRP was accepting of the monks and even Chantou Boua, a woman who
was in Cambodia during the civil war period of 1970 1975, stated that it was not entirely clear what
the Khmers policy was towards Buddhism . However, this was during a time before the Khmer Rouge
had complete power. With the support of Sihanouk, who devised a militant organization ... Show more

This source is somewhat reliable because it was an extract of a government file. However, during this
time the government was corrupt and therefore that eliminates some of its reliability. Despite this
though, historians are aware of the fact that the Khmer Rouge were trying to indoctrinate the youth in
order to gain more control over the population and create a new generation that supports them.
Therefore, we are able to assume that this information is reliable. Also, it is a known fact that in 1974,
the Khmer Rouge established reeducation centers that held around two hundred monks in order to,
among other things, dissuade them from escaping. The Khmer Rouge also employed other tactics in
order to keep the monks in Cambodia. Another account recorded by Harris was that of a man called
Ven. Nhem Kim Teng. His account illustrates why there were a minimal amount of escape attempts in
the early stages of the war. In 1974, many monks were becoming more apprehensive of the situation
that was developing in Cambodia. There were a lot more war machines and more distaste towards the
Buddhist monks. A lot of them wanted to go to Kampuchea Krom but didn t because of the fear that

Civil Litigation Detection Paper
A civil lawsuit involves an individual, business or governmental agency that is seeking relief from
another individual, business or governmental agency. They seek the reimbursement of monetary
damages or equitable relief for harm caused to an individual or group.
Parties to civil suits may choose to have their cases decided by a jury or a judge only. Most cases are
negotiated outside of the courtroom and a settlement agreement between the parties is entered.
When a person, group of people or business entity feels harmed by another usually consults with an
attorney in an effort to resolve the dispute and obtain equitable relief or money damages. The attorney
interviews witnesses and perform legal research. If there is a legitimate cause of action against the
wrongdoer, the attorney and client executes retainer agreement,
The plaintiff s attorney then notifies the defendant of the wrong doing. The demand ... Show more

Criminal Litigation Procedure
Criminal actions involve injustices against the people of the state and are filed by the state or federal
government or both against an individual alleged to have committed a crime. If there is assault and
battery a person can be charge criminally and sued civilly.
In criminal cases an individual accused of a serious crime is rarely desirous of arguing a case to a
judge only. An accused and the prosecutor negotiate a mutually satisfactory disposition of the case
without going to trial whereby the defendant usually agrees to plead guilty to a lesser charge in return
for the state willingness to drop the more serious charge. This process is call plea

Architecture As Space By Peter Goldberger
Critical Studies 3 2015
Art Gallery Analysis
Rohini Contractor 1430251 Architecture as space by Peter Goldberger discusses the significance of
the interior space within architecture as it is where the viewer has a true experience. The feeling when
entering a building builds a foundation for the viewers expectations and is most influential to their
judgement of the space. With a comparison of a person s reaction to a building from the exterior to the
interior, Goldberger explains that an exterior is viewed as a whole and seen in a context however the
interior will mould the persons experience with choice of lighting, form and space. His discussion of
how space can influence the users movement proves that the architect can directly control the user or
even through light determine the mood either with natural lighting or use artificial lighting for
something that can be controlled .
After reading this text I believe there are many different aspects of the interior that play a significant
role in creating an experience for anyone that enters the building. I believe it a responsibility of the
architect to create a feel appropriate for the space, in the case of art galleries it should be expressive to
invite visitors yet not to detract from the artwork itself. Being a commercial space it should also be
suited for an audience of all ages while creating a sense of community. However Goldberger focusses
mainly on interior being a primary experience and although it is

Companies Are Treating The Animals We Will Ultimately Consume
In America, our everyday lives tend to revolve around our food choices. The average consumer veers
towards the quick and easy food options. Without prior knowledge, an individual could be consuming
contaminated meat products that were produced on a factory farm. Since the 1960 s, factory farming
has accounted for over 99% of the meat sold in the United States (Zacharias, 2011). The move towards
large, factory farms saves meat industry millions of dollars a day. These farms pose a huge risk to
public health and environmental safety. Currently, four major companies produce 85% of all the beef
in the United States (Bernice, 2014). It is important to examine how these companies are treating the
animals we will ultimately consume. Knowing what these animals are fed, the conditions they are kept
in and the effect that these factory farms have on the environment is essential for our health. But are
there other options other than Big Ag corporations? Smaller, family owned farms might be the key to
better nutrition and a smaller, ecofriendly footprint. Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations
(CAFOs) are defined as agricultural operations where animals are kept and raised in confined
situations (Foundation). The EPA estimates that there are over 450,000 CAFOs in the United States
(Humane Society). These operations can hold over 100,000 chickens, 10,000 pigs or 1,000 cattle.
Factory farming is a relatively recent development in food production. The introduction of antibiotics

My Passion In Computer Science
I still remember the day, I first used a computer at my uncle s house in the summer of 2000. As a boy
of 8, I was astonished to see the interaction between a television like object and some keys. From that
day, I believe, deep passion for computer grew inside me. A few years later when I got acquainted
with the internet, Computer Science became my most favorite topic. Being amazed by the potentiality
of the internet, I attended a Web Development course after completing high school. Since then I took
Web Development seriously, committed myself to it and decided to study Computer Science.
From the very beginning of undergraduate studies, I have been one of the most excellent programmers
of my class. Programming and related courses seemed much more interesting than others to me.
Specifically, Programming Languages, Programming Language Structure, Compiler Design courses
helped me to have a solid understanding of different types of programming languages and their
insights. Besides, I learned to organize any problem into small parts and solve any problem much
efficiently from Data Structure and Algorithm course. Alongside academic studies, I also got myself
involved in professional Web Development and extra curricular activities. I found particular interest in
Front end Development. To push my limits further, I also started participating in different apps
competitions and competing with the leading developers of Bangladesh. Google Dev Fest, World

Smoking On Teens In America
Smoking cigarettes leads to mental diseases and casualties in the United States with more than
480,000 individuals in the United States dying from cigarettes and about 41,000 deaths from second
hand smoking (CDC). After John Rolfe introduced the commercial crop in Virginia in the 1600 s,
tobacco became the leading exported crop for the colony. Tobacco s initial purpose was for pipe
smoking, chewing, and snuff, (CNN) and to cure individuals with health issues. With the abundant
amount of tobacco, smoking became inexpensive and easy to access across the nation. Along with the
accessibility and reasonable price, smoking became a huge issue for individuals ranging from teens to
adults. An advertisement campaign, called TheTruth, created this visual advertisement of the teenager
smoking a cigarette and the smoke of the cigarette illustrating a gun facing the teenagers head. From
analyzing the advertisement, one can conclude about the high fatality rate of young teenagers smoking
in the United States. The advertisement campaign focuses on the effects smoking has on teenagers in
America. The creator of the visual uses a contrast between dark and light colors to portray negativity
behind teen smoking, the use of symbolism to depict a gun from cigarette smoke conveys how each
objects functions similarly, and the display of the text on the right hand side of the visual invokes fear
to teen smokers. The creator of the visual incorporates dull colors in the advertisement to

Native American Graves Protection Act Essay
Module 8: Native American Graves Protection Repatriation Act The Native Americans have been in
North America since about 13,000 B.C.E. and even left traces of art in the state of Ohio. However,
those traces have been messed with over the years and an act had to be put in place to protect their
burial mounds in particular. The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA)
was put in place in 1990 to stop people from removing artifacts out of their graves without meeting
certain requirements and have some of them be returned as well. They do not want any more

Other historic and archeological facts can be disturbed by this as well so it is a major issue. An
example of those who would be blamed for the buildings of the mounds in the eighteenth century
would be the Vikings, people from the Lost City of Atlantis, Hindus, or the Lost Tribes of Israel when
it actually turned out to be the Adena Native Americans who did this (O Riley 315).Due to none of the
other Native Americans in the area doing this type of work, it was always thought that an outside
group had done this. However, in the nineteenth century, it became clear that the Native Americans
had done this. An example of a piece that was hard for architects to determine who the piece was
made by was the human effigy pipe (O Riley 315 316). This pipe was dug up out of the mounds
before they had realized that the Native Americans had built the mounds and it led architects to
believing that one of the other groups had made the piece. They were eventually able to figure out that
the Native Americans had made the piece

Essay about Characteristics of a Good Leader
A good leader needs to have many particular characteristics. Some of these are obvious, such as that
they care about what you are doing and always puts you before themselves. Also another trait of a
good leader is that they always keep promises they make. Some of the subtle attributes of a good
leader are that they do not hide behind bad news. Moreover, they are easy people to talk to and they
have a good if not excellent sense of humor.
In my opinion, the best leader would be one that enjoys being the leader, is anyways there when I need

I do not think that there is a single person out there in the world like what I stated above because
someone could be good in one area, but lack in another area and such.
I sincerely believe that I have characteristics of a good leader, although some of them could be
different from the more conventional ones. For example, I am a team player and care about the well
being of others, I try my best to help everyone in their time of need, I am generally patient about
things, and I really celebrate success in a very enthusiastic way. I think that these qualities are good
enough for me to be able to be some type of a good leader.
However, I am human so I am not perfect and lack certain traits of a good leader. For instance, I often
do not use language that is easy to understand because I use many big words, I do not really give
people second chances because I feel that one chance is all they need, and also I am not the best
person to communicate. Most of the time I try not to do these things, but these bad things still happen
once in a while because I am frustrated or aggravated at something. For the most part, I am a calm and
reasonable person that helps people out.
Overall, I am a pretty good leader in some areas and like to help others in their time of need. However,
I am only a good leader depending on the situation and that is the major thing

The Great City Of Detroit
Everyone knows Detroit has its fair share of issues. Including abandoned homes, snow removal
unsightly lawns and vacant lots, crime, bad roads, old plumbing nonworking street lights and many
other problems. It is time to come together Detroit was once a beautiful city and can be once more the
architectural dream in the early 19th century. The craftsmanship has declined the hand carved wood
trim, stained glass windows and many other antiquates that made Detroit the great motor city and one
if the paramount cities in the world. A place that holds a lot of history, fine arts, good food and,
riverfront views, also some of the most beautiful theaters in the United States. Although the great city
of Detroit cannot be brought back overnight the communities can contribute to the restoration of the
city by buying into their communities. Buying into a community would require homeowners and
renters who wish to become potential homeowners to pay a monthly fee with a reduced amount
toward the purchase of their home. The fee would cover some amenities such as lawn maintenance,
snow removal, and working street lights, the removal of blight. Citizens would be allowed to
participate in decisions concerning any new developments, or prospects coming into the community,
such as creating community gardens similar to the one created by Dan Muth, co coordinator of the
Bangor Community Garden, who states They create great learning environments for gardeners or

Case Study Of Sigmund Freud s Theory On Psychoosexual...
Sigmund Freud (1856 1939), was an influential Austrian psychologist and the founder of
psychoanalysis. Freud went on to produce several theories, such as his theory on psychosexual
development, which will be the focus of this assignment. Using the case study of a six year old
patient, I will discuss the key principles of Freud s theory on psychosexual development. Including,
comprehensive definitions of the concepts used, and the stages of Freud s psychosexual development.
Lastly using Freud s theory, I will explain how the patient s current behaviour, could impact her
behaviour in adulthood.

Regression is one of the defence mechanisms identified by Freud. According to Freud there are times
when people are faced with circumstances that make them feel at such unease and threatened, that
they cannot deal with it and they protect themselves, by retreating to an earlier stage of development.
Many children who use regression as a defence mechanism, may begin to suck their thumb again.
Freud s Psychosexual Stages of Development
Freud identified five stages of psychosexual development, namely: The oral stage, anal stage, phallic
stage, latency stage and genital stage.
The oral stage of development, begins at birth (even prenatally) and ends approximately, when the
child is one year old. The source of libido or pleasure and conflict, is the mouth. The child will enjoy
sucking, feeding, and putting things in their mouth. The psychological theme here is dependency.
Babies can do very little for themselves, and this would be the time where they are cared for deeply by
their mothers and their most intimate bonding time. When a child is deprived of this and his/ her needs
are not properly fulfilled it can lead to an oral fixation or overindulgence in their later life. Fixation in
this stage could lead to problems such as smoking, nail biting, pen chewing, overeating, alcoholism,
sarcasm and verbal hostility. (Sammons,

Organizational Behavior Trends
Introduction Organizational Behavior is the study of what people think, feel, and do in and around
organizations. Organizational Culture is the basic pattern of common assumptions, values, and beliefs
leading the way employees within an organization think about and act on problems and opportunities.
Organizational Trends are patterns of change over time in some variable of interest. In this paper we
will evaluate two trends in organizational behavior. The influence of ethics on decision making and
the impact of technology on work related stress will be examined. Organizational Behavior Trends

develops into a problem. For this to happen, employers need to ensure that the organizational culture

Walmart has faced heavy scrutiny in the past decade due to prevalent controversy surrounding their

their organization. The organization also understands the importance of their employee s perception of
the company. Disseminating positive information about the company internally influences employees
to share that same message externally. Part of establishing a digital strategy meant revisiting and

Abc- Activity Based Costing
1a) Activity based costing is a relatively new type of procedure that can be used as an inventory
valuation method. The technique was developed to provide more accurate product costs. This
improved accuracy is accomplished by tracing costs to products through activities. In other words,
costs are traced to activities (activity costing) and then these costs are traced, in a second stage, to the
products that use the activities. Another way to express the idea is to say that activities consume
resources and products consume activities. Essentially, an attempt is made to treat all costs as variable,

Obama Reform Health Care Political Analysis
One of the quintessential promises of Obama s campaign in 2008 was to reform health care. In the
2008 democratic platform, democrats rallied around a commitment that every American man, woman,
and child be guaranteed affordable, comprehensive health care (2008 Democratic Party Platform).
While it was uncertain exactly how reform would look like, Democrats and Obama strove for some
specific qualifications for reform. He promised reform in reproductive health care, promised to lower
drug and health care costs and raise quality of care, promised an end to insurance discrimination, and
promised the oft quoted mantra of if you like your doctor, you ll be able to keep your doctor; if you

Much of the resistance he faced came from the newly blossoming face of the right wing called the Tea
Party (Jacobson 2011). The Tea Party was a group of far right conservatives who painted Obama in the
most extremely negative light possible. They denied his American birth, his religious convictions as a
Christian, and constantly called him tyrant (Jacobson 2011). Seeing the intense opposition to Obama s
health care policy, Republicans in Congress capitalized on the growing movement by obstructing
Obama in the hopes that it would let them retake Congress. With this growing opposition, Obama
faced a new problem with the death of Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, an influential Senator and
the last of the Kennedy Family. The intense fervor in the Republican base whipped up enough support
to elect Scott Brown, a hardline conservative, to replace Kennedy. This made it substantially harder to
push through the ACA in Congress. Seeing that a bipartisan deal could not be struck, Obama took the
route that Samuel Kernell calls going public (Kernell 2007). Instead of trying to strike deals with
Congress, he took the initiative and tried to sell his plan to the public. This strategy seemed to work
just enough to be able to push through the votes necessary in the House, resulting in a 219 212 vote

Dehumanization Of Women In The Handmaids Tale
To dehumanize someone is to strip them of everything that makes them human, all their good
qualities, all their basic rights, everything that can label them an individual. Similarly, in Margaret
Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, the women in the Republic of Gilead are degraded in such a way that
they are stripped of their previous selves. Women in Gilead are outfitted by their functions, forced to
have sex and they, especially handmaids, are used as tools. In The Handmaid s Tale, Atwood utilizes
motifs to further dehumanize the women of Gilead. To begin, the Republic of Gilead outfits women
based on their function to strip them of their individuality. The process starts by colour coding women
into easily identifiable class groups. This is seen when Offred makes her way to town, narrating the
scene and drawing attention to the other women by saying, There are other women with baskets, some
in red, some in the dull green of the Marthas (Atwood 27). Women in Gilead have been colour coded
to be easily identifiable and known under their respective colours, completely erasing their identities.

The Sol Of Self Analysis
The small, seaside town of Point Pleasant Borough, New Jersey is not exactly where one would expect
to find many adventures. Leveling out at just under twenty thousand citizens, it is a mostly
homogeneous population of white, Christian families. The kids I went to school with often referred to
Point as The Bubble, meaning that nobody leaves our town; and the nickname holds true. My
hometown is filled with families that have lived there for generations, families that everybody knows,
because nobody leaves town. My family in particular is a prominent one in Point. My grandparents
had nine children, so every teacher I ve ever had has taught at least one or two Hanrahans before me. I
am constantly asked things like, Who s your dad? or Are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not much of an adventure, right? But the act of cutting my hair signified more than just a style
change. To me it was an acceptance of who I am and a statement of my individuality to the world.
Cady Stanton s The Solitude of Self was important to me because it advocated the importance for
women to express their individuality. Though she advocates the value of education in order to discover
this personal uniqueness, I still felt that her message related to why I cut my hair. In the introduction to
Stanton s The Solitude of Self the question is asked, Why... would Stanton emphasize that all
individuals stand alone? (Zoller 114). I feel that this question is answered by Stanton with her
statement that, No one has ever found two blades of ribbon grass alike, and no one will ever find two
human beings alike (Stanton 117). She is saying that it is impossible for all humans to act and think
the same way which is why it is important to embrace our individual selves rather than conform to
society s ideas on how a person should look or act. This reflects my adventure because with my long
hair I felt that my individuality was being repressed; as Stanton stated, no two people are alike, and I
felt that keeping my hair long was just some outdated expression of how a woman should look and
act. My mother thought that the me cutting my hair was an act of rebellion, but it was not. It was just a
physical expression of my individuality or, as Stanton might say, my personal

Beowulf and Star Wars Comparison
Deep space and Ancient Warriors A literary symbol is something often an object that stands for a
significant concept or series of ideas often a symbol is emblematic of the values of the characters. In
the narrative Beowulf and the movie Star Wars, many aspects of symbolism are paralleled. In the
movie Star Wars the most important examples are the Death Star, light sabers and the force. In
Beowulf, some of the most important examples of symbolism are Grendel s arm and head, the dragon
s treasure trove Hrothgar s mead hall and Grendel s cave. The mead hall is both symbolism and a
setting in the epic. The building is like a palace that towers high just as a cliff with horn shaped at the

Cause And Effect Of Stress
Stress plays a prominent role in one s daily life. Thus, it is important to identify stress and learn to
reduce and cope with stress in order to prevent stress related illnesses that may occur. Stress has a
major influence upon one s health, thinking, behavior, and mood. Stress is commonly mistaken for
generally evoking negative associations; however, it is actually part of the human experience that
places pressure on people so that they may be able to perform at a higher level achievement.
Nonetheless, when stress becomes too much to handle, or becomes chronic, it can affect an individual
physically, mentally, behaviorally, and emotionally. What is stress? According to Debra L. Nelson and
James C. Quick, in Organizational Behavior, Stress, or the stress response, can be described as the
unconscious preparation to fight or flee that a person experiences when faced with any demand (103).
When an individual is stressed, the body thinks it is under attack, releasing chemical messengers and
hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol to prepare the body for physical action. Through the release
of hormones, it enables a person to quickly respond to fight or flight. For example, a group of
explorers are in the Amazon rainforest, and they come across a jaguar; this sends a signal to the
individuals that a threat has approached, and sends information to their body giving them the fight or
flight ability. Furthermore, stress can be classified into two different branches: internal and external.
Internal is the ability to send messages and waves throughout our body, resulting in the release of
chemicals and hormones. On the other hand, external is the ability to sweat, blush, itch, or anything
that physically affects a person. Both of these factors control one s entire bodily function of stress.
Stress can be both positive and negative, and can impact how one interact and function on a daily
basis. Stress is commonly mistaken for generally evoking negative associations, however a little stress
can actually be good for a person. Accordingly, when the body experiences a stressor, its fight or flight
response kicks in as a way to protect oneself by staying focused, alert, and allowing one the extra
energy he or she need

Because of the discernable correlation between labor productivity and overall productivity, the
damaging losses were a result of low labor productivity. Ebony Hills Golf Course had increased labor
hours and costs, but revenues had fallen. The strategies recommended focused on cost reduction and
price increases. Reducing staff during non peak seasons and increasing prices were recommendations
that potentially may yield positive profits for Ebony Hills. The SWOT analysis exposed opportunities
to create more revenues during non peak season by establishing cooperative agreements with local
high schools and colleges. The research paper gave a real world example of how to utilize multifactor
productivity measurements to uncover inefficiencies within a firm.

Assessment can also diagnose any obstacles to learning, learning difficulties or learning hiatuses
(Dreyer, 2014:17). Educators can utilise assessment to determine what learners bring into a learning
cycle so as to develop instruction tailored to learner s requirements and to build on existing knowledge
and skills (Spiller, 2009:6 7). This diagnostic purpose can be further used to determine if learners
require further instruction and to assess if learners are prepared for the next stage (Dreyer, 2014:7).
Feedback Assessment provides feedback that learners can use to determine their progress, in relation
to learning outcomes (Spiller, 2009:6). Feedback assists the educator in determining if teaching was
effective and to determine how appropriate modifications and adaptations can be made to improve
future instruction (Dreyer, 2014:7). Learning opportunities Assessments provide learners opportunities
to develop mastery of their ideas, skills and competencies, whilst educators use assessment tasks as
both teaching and learning tools (Spiller, 2009:6 7). Self Evaluation Assessment enables educators to
provide feedback to their learners, this in turn promotes self evaluation by the learner, as they use the
assessment feedback to scrutinise and make judgements about the quality of their work (Spiller,
2009:6 7). Motivation Assessments can provide

The Benefits Of Driving Limitation For Teenagers
Should there be so many driving limitation for young teenagers? Should these laws include limiting
the time of day that a teenage driver can drive alone or the number of passengers permitted in the car?
Also, would it be helpful to have a permit system that would give new drivers more experience before
they get behind the wheel alone on their own? Are these laws beneficial/necessary for young drivers?
Teenage drivers are not always following the laws that are in place that would restrict them from
driving during overnight hours, using cell phones, and limiting the number of passengers they can
have in the car. It would seem that one of the biggest accomplishments in a teenager s life is receiving
their driver s license. It is my opinion that, obtaining a license gives a teenager freedom; a newfound
sense of independence. This new independence can be very intoxicating. Teenagers drive themselves
to school functions, extracurricular activities, or to work. A friend drives over to visit or to pick them
up to go somewhere. It is very thrilling to know that you are not at your parent s mercy to drive you to
and from school, meet friends, or to work. But with all of this new freedom comes responsibility
which most sixteen year olds are not ready to handle.
I understand why teenagers would want to break the law and drive before they are legally ready.
Teenagers crave independence. As they grow into young adults, they feel the need to spread their
wings, and move away from the nest. Driving is an important milestone that allows teenagers to
transition into adulthood independently. Teenagers look forward to that independence with great
anticipation, and want to drive earlier, therefore, they end up breaking laws which are there to protect
the young teenager. There is a time in the teenage years, especially the ages sixteen twenty which are
considered a rite of passage for many individuals who want to apply for a driver s license and legally
drive the car as a licensed driver. It isn t just teens that are excited to reach that defining age; even
parents are excited and motivated as well to join their kids in this exciting time of their life. Because
of this, young teenage drivers have consistently broken the driving

Advantages Of Statutory Damages
The United States is an outlier in the global copyright committee in giving the plaintiffs in copyright
cases the option to elect, any time before the final judgment, to receive an award of statutory damages.
The statutory damages may be granted to an amount between the ranges of $750 to $150,000 per
infringed work. As the name suggests, Statutory damages are damages whose amount or range is set
by law, usually not taking into consideration the actual harm suffered by the plaintiff. Statutory
damages to the defendants can be seen as a multiplier of liability, especially in cases whereby claims,
or parties, are aggregated. On the other hand, statutory damages is a procedural advantage for the
plaintiffs as it allows them to simplify their proofs and awards them damages without the need to
proffer evidence of actual injury. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, to encourage aggrieved plaintiff to defend for their rights. To encourage access to court, the
congress addressed the issue of actual damages too small to warrant filing a lawsuit in many violations
of consumer protection or intellectual property laws by imposing a minimum damages. Secondly,
statutory damages do not require the same level of evidence as actual damages. Hence, statutory
provisions can accelerate lawsuits. Statutory damages can be beneficial at times because the damages
might be hard to quantify or prove. Simplifying plaintiff s proof can be an additional incentive to
bring a lawsuit. Lastly, many of the statutory damages laws have a deterring purpose. Courts have
explained that under the Copyright Act, the statutory damages serve as a punitive sanction of
infringers, under Truth In Lending Act (TILA) statutory damages deter general illegalities which are
only rarely uncovered and punished, and under the Electronics Fund Transfer Act (EFTA) statutory
damages acts as punitive, as well as compensatory

The Hobbit
J. R. R. Tolkien Report This report contains information about J. R. R. Tolkien s life and
achievements. Many have found this to be an interesting topic; as Tolkien has claimed the respect and
love of many who are both related and unrelated to him by blood. A short list of his achievements
includes these topics: Tolkien s participation in the first World War, many of his writings, his
graduation from more than one of England s finest and lesser known colleges/universities, and his
relationship formed with his currently famous writer and friend, C. S. Lewis. As one of the many
information suppliers for the biography website, Biography.com posted, J.R.R. Tolkien is an
internationally renowned fantasy writer. He is best known for authoring The Hobbit and the Lord of
the Rings trilogy. (However, this informant s name is not mentioned in the website) The first topic this
report will cover will be Tolkien s early life. Tolkien is reported to have moved to England early in his
life. However, Tolkien was born quite literally half a world away. Tolkien s place of birth is recorded
as Bloemfontein, South Africa. Born on January 3, in 1892, Tolkien was born to mature into an era
dominated by a great and terrible war between the great nations of the world, however, this essay will

One night while grading tests during his teaching career at Oxford, Tolkien spontaneously wrote the
following phrase on a sheet of paper: In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit. Though no one,
even Tolkien himself, could discern where that sentence came from, it led to the writing and
publication of many of Tolkien s pieces. The more well known of Tolkien s works include the Lord of
the Rings series and the novel The Hobbit. There is much speculation as to how much of Tolkien s
works were inspired by his wartime experiences, though much evidence has surfaced to back said

The City Of The Mercantile City
1. Within the last few centuries, cities as have evolved to take on the features that are used today to
identify the makings of what is a great city. As cities shifted from the concept of the political city to
the mercantile city and finally the industrial city, traditional political, economic and social patterns
began to take on new forms and functions that transformed them to become the urbanized spaces they
are now. Major early cites began in the form of the political city, a place that was the functioning
center of the state or empire. Often populated by the bureaucratic ruling class, the city was regarded as
a space for elite. As the apex of the state, cities served as nexus of trade. A crossing ground for people,
goods, and ideas. As this network of exchange transforms the common concept of the city, merchants
slowly gained status and were allowed to move in. Gradually the once exclusively aristocratic setting
evolved into what became known as the mercantile city where the market became the core of the city.
No longer primarily a place of consuming elites, but a hub of new complexity, cities not only drew in
commodities in the form of imports but also dynamic and profound ideas and people that reshaped
cities as they were seen previously giving rise to Henri Lefebvre s notion of heterogeneity. Cities were
mirroring social and cultural diversity with material processes; a picture of modernity as old ties were
being replaced by newer ones. Thus began the

  • 2. 1970s Communism Research Paper During the 1970s communism started to gain popularity among Asian countries, for instance in Vietnam and Cambodia. The communist party in Cambodia led by Pol Pot, the Kampuchea People Revolutionary Party, started underground and slowly rose to power. The KPRP, was the most prominent communist party at that time. This is because the ex ruler Sihanouk supported it. In the beginning of its rule the KPRP was accepting of the monks and even Chantou Boua, a woman who was in Cambodia during the civil war period of 1970 1975, stated that it was not entirely clear what the Khmers policy was towards Buddhism . However, this was during a time before the Khmer Rouge had complete power. With the support of Sihanouk, who devised a militant organization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This source is somewhat reliable because it was an extract of a government file. However, during this time the government was corrupt and therefore that eliminates some of its reliability. Despite this though, historians are aware of the fact that the Khmer Rouge were trying to indoctrinate the youth in order to gain more control over the population and create a new generation that supports them. Therefore, we are able to assume that this information is reliable. Also, it is a known fact that in 1974, the Khmer Rouge established reeducation centers that held around two hundred monks in order to, among other things, dissuade them from escaping. The Khmer Rouge also employed other tactics in order to keep the monks in Cambodia. Another account recorded by Harris was that of a man called Ven. Nhem Kim Teng. His account illustrates why there were a minimal amount of escape attempts in the early stages of the war. In 1974, many monks were becoming more apprehensive of the situation that was developing in Cambodia. There were a lot more war machines and more distaste towards the Buddhist monks. A lot of them wanted to go to Kampuchea Krom but didn t because of the fear that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They seek the reimbursement of monetary damages or equitable relief for harm caused to an individual or group. Parties to civil suits may choose to have their cases decided by a jury or a judge only. Most cases are negotiated outside of the courtroom and a settlement agreement between the parties is entered. • 5. Architecture As Space By Peter Goldberger Critical Studies 3 2015 Art Gallery Analysis Rohini Contractor 1430251 Architecture as space by Peter Goldberger discusses the significance of the interior space within architecture as it is where the viewer has a true experience. The feeling when entering a building builds a foundation for the viewers expectations and is most influential to their judgement of the space. With a comparison of a person s reaction to a building from the exterior to the interior, Goldberger explains that an exterior is viewed as a whole and seen in a context however the interior will mould the persons experience with choice of lighting, form and space. His discussion of how space can influence the users movement proves that the architect can directly control the user or even through light determine the mood either with natural lighting or use artificial lighting for something that can be controlled . After reading this text I believe there are many different aspects of the interior that play a significant role in creating an experience for anyone that enters the building. I believe it a responsibility of the architect to create a feel appropriate for the space, in the case of art galleries it should be expressive to invite visitors yet not to detract from the artwork itself. Being a commercial space it should also be suited for an audience of all ages while creating a sense of community. However Goldberger focusses mainly on interior being a primary experience and although it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Companies Are Treating The Animals We Will Ultimately Consume In America, our everyday lives tend to revolve around our food choices. The average consumer veers towards the quick and easy food options. Without prior knowledge, an individual could be consuming contaminated meat products that were produced on a factory farm. Since the 1960 s, factory farming has accounted for over 99% of the meat sold in the United States (Zacharias, 2011). The move towards large, factory farms saves meat industry millions of dollars a day. These farms pose a huge risk to public health and environmental safety. Currently, four major companies produce 85% of all the beef in the United States (Bernice, 2014). It is important to examine how these companies are treating the animals we will ultimately consume. Knowing what these animals are fed, the conditions they are kept in and the effect that these factory farms have on the environment is essential for our health. But are there other options other than Big Ag corporations? Smaller, family owned farms might be the key to better nutrition and a smaller, ecofriendly footprint. Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) are defined as agricultural operations where animals are kept and raised in confined situations (Foundation). The EPA estimates that there are over 450,000 CAFOs in the United States (Humane Society). These operations can hold over 100,000 chickens, 10,000 pigs or 1,000 cattle. Factory farming is a relatively recent development in food production. The introduction of antibiotics and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. My Passion In Computer Science I still remember the day, I first used a computer at my uncle s house in the summer of 2000. As a boy of 8, I was astonished to see the interaction between a television like object and some keys. From that day, I believe, deep passion for computer grew inside me. A few years later when I got acquainted with the internet, Computer Science became my most favorite topic. Being amazed by the potentiality of the internet, I attended a Web Development course after completing high school. Since then I took Web Development seriously, committed myself to it and decided to study Computer Science. From the very beginning of undergraduate studies, I have been one of the most excellent programmers of my class. Programming and related courses seemed much more interesting than others to me. Specifically, Programming Languages, Programming Language Structure, Compiler Design courses helped me to have a solid understanding of different types of programming languages and their insights. Besides, I learned to organize any problem into small parts and solve any problem much efficiently from Data Structure and Algorithm course. Alongside academic studies, I also got myself involved in professional Web Development and extra curricular activities. I found particular interest in Front end Development. To push my limits further, I also started participating in different apps competitions and competing with the leading developers of Bangladesh. • 8. Smoking On Teens In America Smoking cigarettes leads to mental diseases and casualties in the United States with more than 480,000 individuals in the United States dying from cigarettes and about 41,000 deaths from second hand smoking (CDC). After John Rolfe introduced the commercial crop in Virginia in the 1600 s, tobacco became the leading exported crop for the colony. Tobacco s initial purpose was for pipe smoking, chewing, and snuff, (CNN) and to cure individuals with health issues. With the abundant amount of tobacco, smoking became inexpensive and easy to access across the nation. Along with the accessibility and reasonable price, smoking became a huge issue for individuals ranging from teens to adults. An advertisement campaign, called TheTruth, created this visual advertisement of the teenager smoking a cigarette and the smoke of the cigarette illustrating a gun facing the teenagers head. From analyzing the advertisement, one can conclude about the high fatality rate of young teenagers smoking in the United States. The advertisement campaign focuses on the effects smoking has on teenagers in America. The creator of the visual uses a contrast between dark and light colors to portray negativity behind teen smoking, the use of symbolism to depict a gun from cigarette smoke conveys how each objects functions similarly, and the display of the text on the right hand side of the visual invokes fear to teen smokers. Native American Graves Protection Act Essay Module 8: Native American Graves Protection Repatriation Act The Native Americans have been in North America since about 13,000 B.C.E. and even left traces of art in the state of Ohio. However, those traces have been messed with over the years and an act had to be put in place to protect their burial mounds in particular. The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) was put in place in 1990 to stop people from removing artifacts out of their graves without meeting certain requirements and have some of them be returned as well. An example of those who would be blamed for the buildings of the mounds in the eighteenth century would be the Vikings, people from the Lost City of Atlantis, Hindus, or the Lost Tribes of Israel when it actually turned out to be the Adena Native Americans who did this (O Riley 315).Due to none of the other Native Americans in the area doing this type of work, it was always thought that an outside group had done this. However, in the nineteenth century, it became clear that the Native Americans had done this. An example of a piece that was hard for architects to determine who the piece was made by was the human effigy pipe (O Riley 315 316). This pipe was dug up out of the mounds before they had realized that the Native Americans had built the mounds and it led architects to believing that one of the other groups had made the piece. Some of these are obvious, such as that they care about what you are doing and always puts you before themselves. Also another trait of a good leader is that they always keep promises they make. Some of the subtle attributes of a good leader are that they do not hide behind bad news. Moreover, they are easy people to talk to and they have a good if not excellent sense of humor. I sincerely believe that I have characteristics of a good leader, although some of them could be different from the more conventional ones. For example, I am a team player and care about the well being of others, I try my best to help everyone in their time of need, I am generally patient about things, and I really celebrate success in a very enthusiastic way. I think that these qualities are good enough for me to be able to be some type of a good leader. However, I am human so I am not perfect and lack certain traits of a good leader. For instance, I often do not use language that is easy to understand because I use many big words, I do not really give people second chances because I feel that one chance is all they need, and also I am not the best person to communicate. Most of the time I try not to do these things, but these bad things still happen once in a while because I am frustrated or aggravated at something. For the most part, I am a calm and reasonable person that helps people out. Overall, I am a pretty good leader in some areas and like to help others in their time of need. Including abandoned homes, snow removal unsightly lawns and vacant lots, crime, bad roads, old plumbing nonworking street lights and many other problems. It is time to come together Detroit was once a beautiful city and can be once more the architectural dream in the early 19th century. A place that holds a lot of history, fine arts, good food and, riverfront views, also some of the most beautiful theaters in the United States. Although the great city of Detroit cannot be brought back overnight the communities can contribute to the restoration of the city by buying into their communities. Regression is one of the defence mechanisms identified by Freud. According to Freud there are times when people are faced with circumstances that make them feel at such unease and threatened, that they cannot deal with it and they protect themselves, by retreating to an earlier stage of development. Many children who use regression as a defence mechanism, may begin to suck their thumb again. Freud s Psychosexual Stages of Development Freud identified five stages of psychosexual development, namely: The oral stage, anal stage, phallic stage, latency stage and genital stage. The oral stage of development, begins at birth (even prenatally) and ends approximately, when the child is one year old. The source of libido or pleasure and conflict, is the mouth. The child will enjoy sucking, feeding, and putting things in their mouth. The psychological theme here is dependency. Babies can do very little for themselves, and this would be the time where they are cared for deeply by their mothers and their most intimate bonding time. When a child is deprived of this and his/ her needs are not properly fulfilled it can lead to an oral fixation or overindulgence in their later life. Fixation in this stage could lead to problems such as smoking, nail biting, pen chewing, overeating, alcoholism, sarcasm and verbal hostility. (Sammons, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The technique was developed to provide more accurate product costs. This improved accuracy is accomplished by tracing costs to products through activities. While it was uncertain exactly how reform would look like, Democrats and Obama strove for some specific qualifications for reform. • 28. Cause And Effect Of Stress Stress plays a prominent role in one s daily life. Thus, it is important to identify stress and learn to reduce and cope with stress in order to prevent stress related illnesses that may occur. Stress has a major influence upon one s health, thinking, behavior, and mood. Stress is commonly mistaken for generally evoking negative associations; however, it is actually part of the human experience that places pressure on people so that they may be able to perform at a higher level achievement. Nonetheless, when stress becomes too much to handle, or becomes chronic, it can affect an individual physically, mentally, behaviorally, and emotionally. What is stress? According to Debra L. Nelson and James C. Quick, in Organizational Behavior, Stress, or the stress response, can be described as the unconscious preparation to fight or flee that a person experiences when faced with any demand (103). When an individual is stressed, the body thinks it is under attack, releasing chemical messengers and hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol to prepare the body for physical action. Through the release of hormones, it enables a person to quickly respond to fight or flight. For example, a group of explorers are in the Amazon rainforest, and they come across a jaguar; this sends a signal to the individuals that a threat has approached, and sends information to their body giving them the fight or flight ability. Furthermore, stress can be classified into two different branches: internal and external. Internal is the ability to send messages and waves throughout our body, resulting in the release of chemicals and hormones. On the other hand, external is the ability to sweat, blush, itch, or anything that physically affects a person. Both of these factors control one s entire bodily function of stress. Stress can be both positive and negative, and can impact how one interact and function on a daily basis. Stress is commonly mistaken for generally evoking negative associations, however a little stress can actually be good for a person. Accordingly, when the body experiences a stressor, its fight or flight response kicks in as a way to protect oneself by staying focused, alert, and allowing one the extra energy he or she need ... Should these laws include limiting the time of day that a teenage driver can drive alone or the number of passengers permitted in the car? Also, would it be helpful to have a permit system that would give new drivers more experience before they get behind the wheel alone on their own? Are these laws beneficial/necessary for young drivers? Teenage drivers are not always following the laws that are in place that would restrict them from driving during overnight hours, using cell phones, and limiting the number of passengers they can have in the car. It would seem that one of the biggest accomplishments in a teenager s life is receiving their driver s license. It is my opinion that, obtaining a license gives a teenager freedom; a newfound sense of independence. This new independence can be very intoxicating. Teenagers drive themselves to school functions, extracurricular activities, or to work. A friend drives over to visit or to pick them up to go somewhere. It is very thrilling to know that you are not at your parent s mercy to drive you to and from school, meet friends, or to work. But with all of this new freedom comes responsibility which most sixteen year olds are not ready to handle. I understand why teenagers would want to break the law and drive before they are legally ready. Teenagers crave independence. As they grow into young adults, they feel the need to spread their wings, and move away from the nest. Driving is an important milestone that allows teenagers to transition into adulthood independently. Teenagers look forward to that independence with great anticipation, and want to drive earlier, therefore, they end up breaking laws which are there to protect the young teenager. There is a time in the teenage years, especially the ages sixteen twenty which are considered a rite of passage for many individuals who want to apply for a driver s license and legally drive the car as a licensed driver. Statutory damages to the defendants can be seen as a multiplier of liability, especially in cases whereby claims, or parties, are aggregated.
