When you are pitching an investor for the first time, you want to tell your story about why they should invest in your business instead of the 10’s or 100’s of other entrepreneurs who are pitching them to invest. You are primarily selling yourself (and your team) and creating confidence on how you are going to be able to realize the potential of your business to scale, make great profits and provide liquidity for the investor.

What is Groupthink?
Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that may cause a failure of a group’s performance. This is a trap that any previously successful group may get in.
The "groupthink" term was proposed by social psychologist Irving Janis (1972). It occurs when a group makes faulty decisions because group pressures lead to a deterioration of “mental efficiency, reality testing, and moral judgment” (p. 9). The alternatives are ignored and irrational actions dehumanize other groups. A group is especially vulnerable to groupthink when its members are similar in background, when the group is insulated from outside opinions, and when there are no clear rules for decision making.
Janis, Irving L. (1972). Victims of Groupthink. New York: Houghton Mifflin.
Janis, Irving L. (1982). Groupthink: Psychological Studies of Policy Decisions and Fiascoes. Second Edition. New York: Houghton Mifflin. Symptoms of Groupthink
There are eight symptoms of groupthink:
· Illusion of invulnerability –Creates excessive optimism that encourages taking extreme risks.
· Collective rationalization – Members discount warnings and do not reconsider their assumptions.
· Belief in inherent morality – Members believe in the rightness of their cause and therefore ignore the ethical or moral consequences of their decisions.
· Stereotyped views of out-groups – Negative views of the “enemy” make effective responses to conflict seem unnecessary.
· Direct pressure on dissenters – Members are under pressure not to express arguments against any of the group’s views.
· Self-censorship – Doubts and deviations from the perceived group consensus are not expressed.
· Illusion of unanimity – The majority view and judgments are assumed to be unanimous.
· Self-appointed ‘mindguards’ – Members protect the group and the leader from information that is problematic or contradictory to the group’s cohesiveness, view, and/or decisions.
Remedies for Groupthink
Decision experts have determined that groupthink may be prevented by adopting some of the following measures:
1. The leader should assign the role of critical evaluator to each member
2. The leader should avoid stating preferences and expectations at the outset
3. Each member of the group should routinely discuss the group's deliberations with a trusted associate and report back to the group on the associate's reactions
4. One or more experts should be invited to each meeting on a staggered basis. The outside experts should be encouraged to challenge views of the members.
5. At least one articulate and knowledgeable member should be given the role of devi ...

and assess the impact of alternative solutions.

imagination, making mistakes, creating value, doing
things differently and most importantly
perseverance; think what problems would still
require solutions.
This is a process that drives business and innovation. It creates progress. It solves everyday challenges and creates new ones. Entrepreneurs, business and salespeople are just like inventors. The really good ones consciously see problems, which they explore and attempt to solve.
What I find work suitably well is a simple 5 steps, anyone is highly recommended to practice.
To solve a problem, you must first be willing to accept the problem by acknowledging that the problem exists and committing yourself trying to solve it.
List the benefits – How will solving problem benefit you?
Formalize your acceptance – Formal commitment to solve problem
Accept responsibility for your life – we have the potential to control the direction of our lives
Creates a “worst-case” scenario – what are potential disastrous consequences of your
Identify what’s holding you back – What is preventing you from solving the problem?
Define the problem
Examine the options
Problem-solving tool = Decision Making Tool
Brainstorming : No criticism of ideas, free rein is given to creativity
I’m taking 2 types of brainstorming: Indv and Group Brainstorming. Both of them has good effects as well as side effects.
Indv: 1). Tend to develop… but take each idea further deep and more profound. 2). Can be Risky for individuals. Valuable but strange suggestions may appear stupid at first sight
Group: 1). It’s best for generating many ideas, but can take more times to complete. 2). Needs Formal Rules for it to work smoothly (Disagreements)
3). Group Brainstorming sessions are usually enjoyable experiences, which are great for creating cohesion in a team.
Weight the positive and negative sides of each alternative you made. What ideas shall you should add more..
Act on the plan.
But I suggest you to try on something new, something that is already planned, and something that you think from the first place that it is right. Do not afraid of making mistakes because it will make you grow from it. Most important of all, avoid all the negative attitudes as the above!
Without following your curiosity, using your imagination, making mistakes, creating value, doing things differently and most importantly perseverence; think what problems would still require solutions.
