Reflective Essay
Introduction
Ian Johnson s Wild Grass presents three stories that vividly reflect the social and political problems in
the contemporary Chinese regime. Featuring three groups of protagonists, namely the peasant
champion who filed class action lawsuit against the government for over taxing, the Beijing citizens
whose residence were destroyed for property development, and the daughter whose mother was killed
in the suppression of Falun Gong, the book not only has envisioned me on some of the most ... Show

In contemporary China, law is perceived by the public as the modern form of petitioning
(Johnson, 2004, p. 52), an opportunity for ordinary citizens to seek for fair treatments and vindication
of their rights. However, flaws in the Chinese legal system provide opportunities, one after another,
for executive intervention and abuse of the regime, which renders law unable to protect the
disadvantaged and exploited. From my point of view, the faulty legal system, has given the
disadvantaged a sense of relative deprivation. Frustrated to rely on the ineffective formal channels,
more people choose to engage in protests and rebellions to communicate their thoughts to the central
authority and gain public attention. Although the ideologies of democracy and rule of law have not

when they are subject to enormous pressure from the authority who by every means tries to stop them
from doing so.

James Fennimore s Last Of The Mohicans
The book last of Mohicans is a really good novel that gives a lot of action, romanticism and suspense,
really gets the reader going. James Fennimore cooper really gave a historical background writing the
novel last of the Mohicans. The novel represents the Mohicans (Mahican) and the parts of the history.
James Fennimore cooper really had an accurate novel and an outstanding point of view. The Mohican
tribe was really interesting and they originally came from the banks of the Hudson River, where it is
now New York State. They also lived in many other places but unfortunately the Europeans came and
killed many Mohicans. The surviving Mohicans had to move to the west. Later on the Mohicans
moved to Stockbridge where they live today. The Mohican children lived like any other child they did
there chores went to school and played games but there was a bit difference in today s children then in
the Mohicans back then. The Mohicans children used to do more chores then they would play but
what was really interesting is how they played the games, they were given miniature arrows where
they would hunt for small animals and would often play ball games similar to soccer but a bit
different, instead of using your feet you would use a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Social Security Act Of 1935 And Medicaid Insurance
There has been an increasingly large amount of awareness placed on the governments role in
prevention and standards for the control of health care and communicable diseases. In this growing
effort are provisions applying to long term health and stipulations for proper treatment and care.
Gradually, a shift from local community efforts to care for the elder has transferred to a prominent
government role. Several committees have been created to assist with the implementation and over
view of care and acts to instigate change. Amongst the major changes that have been set in place
effecting long term care, was the passage of the Social Security Act of 1935 and Medicaid insurance.

At this time, federal efforts began to assist with disabled and ill seamen. The Marine Hospital was
founded to deliver federally funded care and began the materialization of the government s role in
public health. As the government s role in public health remains, major changes have been put into
effect, precisely dealing with long term care. Before the 1930 s, providing care for the elderly was
exclusively a local and state run industry. However, after the great depression, a growing demand was
placed on providing some type of insurance for that population. The Social Security Act of 1935 was
established to assist with Federal old age benefits and was signed into effect by President Roosevelt
on August 15, 1935. (Home, 2015) Another major impact to long term care has been the creation of
Medicaid that went into effect in 1965 and was an amendment to the Social Security Act of 1935. Title
XIX of the Social Security Act is a federal and state entitlement program that pays for medical
assistance for certain individuals and families with low incomes and resources Medicaid is a collective
effort between state and the government to help provide insurance for eligible citizens. Among those
covered under this insurance, are the elderly, disabled and pregnant. Medicaid is the largest source of
funding for medical care. The new changes to Medicaid are ongoing and will be put into effect as part
of Obamacare. The Obama administration

Affects of Ph on Peroxidase Enzyme
The Affects of pH on Peroxidase Enzyme

Section 36
Abstract Peroxidase is a turnip enzyme; it is used in the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide to lower
activation energy, speeding up the reaction. The activity of peroxidase is highly dependent on its
environment and most importantly the pH level. Peroxidase has been the focus of many recent studies
and is believed to possibly reduce swelling among other things. We conducted an experiment testing
the effect different levels of pH had on the reaction rate of peroxidase. In the experiment we created
different solutions all containing hydrogen peroxide, peroxidase, and guaiacol. However each cuvette
contained a different pH level, 2,5,7,or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the blank cuvettes, the 2 mL of pH levels 2,5,7, and 10 were added first, followed by the 1mL of
peroxidase. However our experimental cuvettes contained both hydrogen peroxide and guaiacol.
Before the cuvettes were placed in the spectrophotometer we added 0.1 mL of H202, followed by 0.02
mL of guaiacol these two substances were added last immediately before they were placed in the
spectrophotometer. Para film was placed over the cuvette opening, and the assay solution was shaken
and placed into the spectrophotometer where its saturation level was then tested. We recorded the
saturation level of the solution every 15 seconds for 3 minutes. This process was repeated two times
for each pH level for a total of two trials.
Results
Figure one depicts the reaction rate of peroxidase enzyme over time. The y axis shows the absorbance
of the assay solutions, and the x axis depicts time it took for the reaction to occur in seconds.
Figure 2 is a representation of the average saturation of each cuvette at a specific point time as a
function. The y axis shows the specific saturation points from figure 1, and the x axis provides the
different levels of pH. The pH scale provided on the x axis ranges from 0 to 14, 0 being the most
acidic and 14 being the most basic. The point chosen from figure 1 was the saturation levels of each
cuvette at 110 seconds. The saturation point was chosen because in the previous graph at time 110

Toowoomba City is located 125km from Brisbane in Queensland on the Western side of the Great
Dividing Range. It consists of two main creek catchments, east creek and west creek catchments. In
January 2011 there was a main flooding event which caused a large flood event that is described as an
Inland Tsunami . Figure 1 Catchment map of Toowoomba identifying major hydraulic features. Source
[1]
The factors that contributed to the major storm was:
There was an initial rainfall even of 90mm which occurred over 24 hours before which caused the
catchments to be fully saturated. As a result any major rainfall events would be converted directly into
surface water runoff
Most of the catchments depicted in Figure 1 where fully urbanised which caused surfaces in the
catchment to be impervious; that is very little runoff would infiltrate into the ground
There were intense rainfall events that occurred over the Gowrie creek catchment; with an event
greater than a 100 year ARI storm experienced at the rainfall gauges
Due to the large intensities of rainfalls caused both East and West creeks to fill up. Due to both creeks
flowing in the same direction no drainage could occur to Gworiee creek causing inundation shown in

The Early Modern Period Of The English Language
England from the 16th to 18th century was undergoing an immense change in its social structure and
cultural practice due to the innovations from the Renaissance (late 15th to early 17th C), the
Reformation (16th to 17th C) and the Scientific Revolution (17th to 18th C). Firmly situated in this
context is the Early Modern Period of the English language, starting from approximately 1500 CE and
continuing through to 1700 CE, which saw the language move from Middle English (1100 1500 CE)
into a language more recognisable to the one spoken by English speakers today. Crucial to these
transformations are the introduction of the printing press to England by William Caxton in 1476 and
the influence of role of Latin in European education during this period. These circumstances shaped
the use of and attitudes towards English, especially in relation to its standardization, definition of
correct English and the spread of literacy. Ultimately, transforming English into a language respected
and highly appreciated in this period.
The printing press set up in Westminster by William Caxton in 1476 was the first of its kind in
England and is frequently taken to be the date that marks the emergence of Early Modern English .
This innovation also marks the beginning of the standardization, and eventually regulation, of the
English language, thus greatly impacting the use of English in this period and moving forwards into
the present. Previously, English spelling was greatly varied in its

Benefits Of Drones Research Paper
Kongslie
Drones overall will be more impactful than I think people will recognize, in positive ways to help
society. (Bill Gates). I like this quote because some people don t see drones benefits. The technical
name of a drone is unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV for short. Abraham Karem was the person who
came up with the idea for the reaper, the drones purpose was for fighting wars oversea and keeping
civilians safe(Lawrence 2). Some type of drones is the reaper, predator, quadcopter, delivery drones,
and photography drones. The reaper and predator both serve for the military and is used in wars to be
for surveillance or striking the target with weapons. The quadcopter is a personal recreational drone.
Delivery drones is something that Amazon uses to deliver packages to their customers. Photography
drones can be used for filmmakers and can take pictures from the sky. Drones have become
controversial because people don t know how to use them correctly. The benefits of using unmanned
aerial vehicles in the military is their inexpensive to produce, they can stay in the air for ... Show more

Being A Twin Research Paper
Being a twin has been nothing short of ordinary. I have never been treated as normal. The first
question I get asked when I meet people is always about being a twin. Oh you are a twin? Have you
ever switched classes with one another? How is it like being a twin? are just some of the questions I
am barraged with. While the questions may not seem harmful, to me they are extremely annoying and
almost insulting. It shows that they do not care about who I am, but rather who we are. It is a painful
realisation to know that some of the people who I know are only my friend because I am a twin. It isn
t just my social life that has taken the toll, but also my academic career. Throughout my schooling I
have felt immense pressure from peers, teachers,

The Enlightenment And The Glorious Revolution
The Enlightenment is said to have begun in the 1680 s, the same decade that the Glorious Revolution
occurred, which crowned daughter of James II Mary and her husband Prince William of Orange
Monarchs of England. This turning point in English history can be considered part of the
Enlightenment due to the switch from an Absolute Monarchy to a Constitutional Monarchy and the
passing of the English Bill of Rights in 1689 after William s ascension to the throne.
The passing of the English Bill of Rights ushered in a new age for England, giving the power of the
Monarchy to the Parliament, and banning the Monarch from adjourning Parliament or going against
the opinion of its majority. The Bill lists that many tyrannical actions that had previously been made
by many kings, such as levying money and suspending/revoking laws were illegal without the consent
of Parliament (Document 3), essentially giving Parliament control of the direction of English law. The
English Bill of Rights was ratified by William in 1689, which directly stated multiple times that the
ruler s power was to be checked by Parliament, thus inhibiting them from exercising full power over
the people, preventing tyranny. He states in Document 2 that he and his wife Mary will concur in
everything that may procure the peace and happiness of [the] nation, which a free and lawful
Parliament shall determine... [and support] the securing of the whole nation the free enjoyment of all
their laws, rights, and liberties,

Research Paper About Quebec City
Quebec City If someone were to look on the map, they would see Canada just above North America.
And if someone would want to go to Canada, they would probably want to go to Quebec. Know why?
Because Quebec is a great place. Quebec s great province is Quebec City, and there people can do
many things. There is a great geographical make up of the area, a wide population, and many
recreational activities. The people that live there have a great way of living, and the government is
safe. But would someone really want to go to Quebec just to visit? Of course not! If someone were to

sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, rafting, and fishing. Some other things people could do is skydiving,

Quebec City has the lowest crime rates. Quebec City has the lowest crime rate in North America, and

A Short Note On Diabetes And Its Effects On The Risk Of...
Diastolic dysfunction is observed in 40 60% of diabetics with heart failure, this occur through a
pathological processes that cause stiffening of the myocardium due to cross linking and extracellular
matrix deposition, hypertrophy, and neuronal abnormalities (Rakowski et al., 1996), (Zile Brutsaert
2002), (Laing et al., 2003), (Drury et al., 2011), (Forbes Cooper 2013). Many factors play a role in
development of CVD in diabetes as dyslipidemia, poor glycemic control that cause direct damage to
myocardium, or affect through atherosclerotic process , while other factors are still controversial (Zile
Brutsaert 2002), (Hogan et al., 2003), (Laing et al., 2003), (Paterson et al., 2007), (Fowler 2008),
(Forbes Cooper 2013). The current study investigated effect of different coronary risk factors on the
risk of development of heart failure such as age, gender, presence of medical comorbidities as (DM,
hypertension and CAD), smoking, Body mass index (BMI), blood sugar and lipid profile and results
showed that both DM and CAD had strong association with development of heart failure as well as
obesity measured by BMI and cholesterol level. This agreed with many studies that showed that
diabetes is a strong independent risk factor for left ventricular dysfunction and the presence of
addition coronary risk factors increase the risk such as age, sex, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension,
positive family history, and smoking (Jurkovicova D et al., 2006). Also studies showed

Why Did The American Colonists Have Their Rights Essay
Great Britain operated colonies in America for over 150 years. Throughout this time period, the
colonists governed themselves fairly and justly with little interference from Great Britain. Then,
British government jumped in and suddenly started treating the colonists as a lesser people. Why did
the American colonist have the rights of Englishmen? The American colonists had the rights of
Englishmen because they were subjects of the British rule, and all subjects of the king or queen lived
their rights as Englishmen. Even though the colonists were natives of Great Britain, which should
have given them equal rights of the British, their rights were violated. The colonist s family and
friends, who had just arrived from Great Britain felt as if they were stripped of their rights and treated
as rebels. What ideas did colonists in America use when they formed their own governments? When
forming their own government the colonists had many ideas, for example Natural Rights and Rule of
Law, which were based off of different, well developed governments. The colonist s base of
government was a representative government where the people choose their representatives. They also
used the valuable ideas from the British documents. Then, the Founders divided the power into three
branches of government to make sure that no one person could have ... Show more content on

The Indian Removal Act
Native American History In the early 1830 s, President Andrew Jackson, authorized the Indian
Removal Act. The Cherokee Indians and many other Indian Tribes were forcefully removed from their
homeland in a brutal and inhumane manner. During this hard journey, many Cherokee Indians died,
this journey was called The Trail of Tears which was the forced relocation of the Native American,
and these tragedies resulted from the enforcement of the Treaty of New Echota, an agreement signed
under the requirements of the Indian Removal Act.
The Indian Removal Act, of 1830, provided funds for uprooting Five Civilized Tribes, the Cherokee,
Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole with a population around 60,000 living in North Carolina,
Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi (Foner 393). Throughout the whole movement of the Indians,
many of them died during the journey while others died as they were left behind to try and fight for
their land. In a case involving Indians in 1823, Johnson vs. M Intosh, the court had claimed that
Indians were not in fact owners of their land, but merely had a right to occupancy (Foner 394). The
chief justice John Marshall claimed that from the early colonial era, Indians had lived as nomads and
hunters, not farmers. In Cherokee Nation vs. Georgia, 1831, Marshall described the Indians as Wards
of the federal government. They deserved paternal regard and protection but they lacked the standing
as citizens that would allow the Supreme Court to enforce their

Reflection On Good Life
With help from Socrates, Aristotle, and Mill, we have recently developed many well informed
outlooks on what a good life is capable of looking like. What is your understanding of the good life?
This is an interesting question because the term good life is taken subjectively by many people. The
word good itself means morally excellent, while the word life refers to a living being. Put the two
words together and it becomes more of a decision making process than a modified and opinionated
noun. It is essentially building your foundation as a person, and can reward you with many benefits.
The good life is a series of actions in which you accomplish in order to make yourself happy, wise,
and well cared for in the future. In the text, Selections from APOLOGY, by Plato, translated by
Benjamin Jowett, we learn about Socrates view on the good life. He taught his philosophy and ways of
thinking, to people for free, as he deemed happiness did not come from material things, like money.
Socrates, instead, believed that an active mind is a happier mind. He was all about thoughtfulness, and
questioning everything. He did a lot of self examination and became completely aware of who he was,
and wanted to be in the future. On page fourteen, Socrates states ... a man who is good for anything
ought not to calculate the chance of living or dying; he ought only to consider whether in doing
anything he is doing right or wrong acting the part of a good man or of a bad. Socrates

Human Fears of Biological Science
Biology, genetic engineering, research, humans and animals all have one thing in common; they all
will potentially start the spread of the worst viral disease known to humanity. AIDS, a viral disease of
the human, is spreading rapidly across the world. Also, parasites, rabies, and toxoplasma gondii are all
potential factors in the human body takeover. Zombie films today help show how the world will be
when this happens. Blood, saliva, and biting will all be known as curse words to society. Society in
one s eyes will never be the same. Research done on animals, which start all diseases, will be the
beginning to the life we never dreamed of. Biological science is a potential threat to humanity through
today s infections, viruses, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whereas microparasites can have highly visible effects, diseases caused by macroparasites are often
more subtle, yet can still impact the host at the population level.*** Parasites may have less of a threat
to the human race compared to viruses, but they still pose a threat to the human and its society for
spreading to others. One particular parasite infection in the human race now is toxoplasma gondii, by
the protozoan parasite. It is one of the most common parasitic infections of man and other warm
blooded animals. Nearly one third of humanity has already been exposed to this parasite. In most
adults it does not cause serious illness, but it can cause blindness and mental retardation in infected
children and devastating disease in immunocompromised individuals. Most infections in humans are
asymptomatic but at times the parasite can produce devastating disease. Once more, the parasite has
probable cause to become a disease, even deadly ones. Toxoplasma gondii is already existent and
spreading through many countries. It is an infectious parasite therefore, is has all the characteristics a
parasite inquires. Not only can it rapidly spread, but also through higher population levels. If the
toxoplasma gondii were to spread, and the parasite inhabits a new domain, it could become more

Adolescence Is A Form Of Social Rejection
Adolescence is a period of clear gains in intelligence and cognitive skills and one of intense emotions
and impulsive behavior (Johnson de Haan, 2015). We experience a higher sensitivity to rejection
during this time and place great importance of peer relationships (Masten et al., 2009). Frequent
experiences of social rejection have been linked with lasting somatic, psychosomatic, and
internalizing disorders (Wolke Lereya, 2015), such as depression and anxiety (Rigby, 2000; as cited in
Masten et al., 2009). Educators and researchers alike have attempted to intervene in hopes of reducing
antisocial behaviors like bullying, a form of social rejection. In this paper, I will (1) go over what
adolescence is and broad developmental changes during this period; (2) affective causes of social
rejection; (3) some effects of social rejection during adolescence; and lastly (4) some concluding
statements and future directions.
Adolescence and broad changes during this period
According to Crone and Dahl (2011), adolescence is a transition phase between childhood and
adulthood. They, and many other researchers (e.g, Arnett, 2015), do not believe that the beginning and
end have clear cut boundaries. Somewhat helpfully, a general range of adolescence has been agreed
upon in the literature and is between the ages of 9 and 19; this uses the onset of pubertal maturation as
a marker. Johnson and de Haan (2015) and others have remarked that it is a time that involves a

Superman did not exist. Similarly, parents look for proper education for their children however they
soon find that just like Superman, this education does not exist. In Waiting for Superman , Davis
Guggenheim informs parents that schools are failing to produce successful students and inspires his
viewers to act against this injustice.
Waiting for Superman is a documentary directed by Davis Guggenheim that shows the injustices in
the public school system. The film reveals how education has declined. Guggenheim focuses on five
students and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses the example of a girl named Daisy who is going to go to Stevenson Middle School, where
only 13% of their students are proficient in math. Then she ll go to Roosevelt High School, which is
one of the worst high schools in LA, with 50% dropout rate, and only 3 out of 100 meet the academic
requirements for admission to a public California College (Waiting for Superman ). Daisy hopes that
one day she will be a doctor or veterinarian because she wants to help people. But Guggenheim
skillfully uses Daisy to show that her dreams have a very low chance of coming true because of her
school. Guggenheim uses these kids as heart wrenching stories that reach out to the viewers to take a
stance and make change. He furthermore uses a cause and effect strategy to claim that if parents want
better education for their kids, it means having more options. Many parents want their children to
attend a charter school such as Daisy s parents who want her to enter KIPP LA Prep because the
students become more advanced in reading and writing. However due to the popularity of these
charter schools, to get in she ll have to participate in a lottery. If Daisy wins the lottery she will be able
to get on a good path to achieve her dreams. As the movie shows parents and children scream when
they find out they got in or they cry when they find

Lotus World Music Festival Case Study
Lotus World Music Arts Festival Case Study In early November, the world renowned cellist Yo Yo Ma
came to Bloomington and performed at the IU Auditorium. I have heard his music through many of
his recordings and was not only touched by his music but also admired all his musically experiments
that helped us understand more about different cultural music. However, I never got the chance to
attend his live performances before, so when I knew he would come here and perform, I bought his
concert tickets as soon as possible. I think that is the magic and power of live performances. No matter
how many times you have heard that song before, you still want to experience more about it. Live
performances give us the feeling that we are interacting with the musicians and sharing the story ...

From 1999 to 2009, concert ticket sales in the U.S. tripled from $1.5 billion to $4.6 billion, vastly
exceeding the growth of inflation and population growth (Lee, n.p.). It is obvious that the demand of
live performances keeps increasing and as Billboard stated 32 million people go to at least one U.S.
music festival every year (Lynch, n.p.). As an important part of the live performances, music festivals
are gaining the popularities world widely and people are willing to enjoy their leisure with friends and
families at music festivals. I went to several different kinds of music festivals at both China and
United States, and they were all great experiences. According to Timeout.com, among the list they
provided for 50 best music festivals around the world, there are 10 of them are music festivals taking
place at U.S. (Curle, n.p.). From those statistics, it is not hard to find out that music festivals are
popular at U.S. and when you look at those music festivals, they are varies at geographic and genres as
well. So I think it is optimistic to say that music festivals open another way for people to enjoy the
music and enjoy the social

Essay On Women s Center
Current Problems of the Women s Center
Many Women s Centers have been changing the name of the center to become more inclusive due to
the definition of feminism and the values of the Women s Center. The idea of the Women s Center is to
provide information, education, and advocacy surrounding issues of women. At some point the topic
of women s issues get very burly with the topics of gender identification and the population it is
aiming to serve.
This section will be exploring the risks, needs and current problems of the Women s Centers. Funding
seems to be a constant problem with all universities across the United States. There are grants,
scholarship, and funding for Women s Centers but getting them becomes the problem. They may ...

Others noted that it was difficult to serve all women in a diverse student population (Kasper, 2004,
p189). Going along with attendance is territorialism. Centers have reported that they have to be carful
not to plan activity s or events that may step on the toes of others. Centers have seen this problem only
grow with budgetary problems and cuts from the college (Kasper, 2004).
With the combination between all the problems it becomes had for Women s Centers to be recognized
for what they do and who is represented. Then the question is asked whom does the Women s Center
include? What issues should be addressed? Who are they supporting? Will including more people
affect funding? How would this effect current member of the Women s Center? These are question
that will have to be addressed when creating a Women s Center as well as any center that addresses
this population of people. In (re)conceptualizing these spaces, we must think about ways to be more
inclusive of the students who are marginalized within groups (Nicolazzo Harris, 2014, p. 6)
Change to Centers
Many university campus Women s Centers in the United States have been making the change from
Women s Centers to a more gender inclusive name as a result of the values behind the Women s
Centers. Women s centers can play a significant role in promoting equity as long as they are viewed as
central vehicles in the equity process and are able to avoid marginalization (Bengiveno, 2000, p 7).

Satyagraha, By Mahatma Gandhi
In 1869, one of the most prominent and influential men to ever live was born. Mohandas Karamchand
Gandhi was born in Gujarat, India. Known for leading India to its eventual freedom and inspiring
movements across the world, Gandhi became India s Father of the Nation . His non violent and non
cooperative civil disobedience provided a sense of truth and firmness. Better known as Satyagraha, as
coined by Gandhi, became one of the best methods to fight injustices. Around the world, Satyagraha
has proven to work amongst others besides the Indians. In 1905, thousands of workers protested in
Russia to overthrow the Tsar and for better working conditions for the peasant working class. Not only
did it work in the 20th century, but Satyagraha has worked in the 21st century. In 2005, a breakdown
occupying the Faroe Islands commenced leaving all workers to protest in hopes for raises throughout
their civil disobedience acts. During the 1980s, the US government used the Marshall Islands as a
nuclear test site and natives used non violent protests in hopes to end the lease and be able to return
back to their homes. While Satyagraha was a concept developed in 1906, the method is constantly
used and was used even before Gandhi.
Around the same time Gandhi was born, Satyagraha was imminent throughout Russia. During the late
19th century, Russia s autocracy was under attack. In 1894, Nicolas II replaced Alexander III and
attempted to make several liberal reforms, but the reforms failed.

Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge
Forty five minutes south east from the city of San Francisco is an area I ve been meaning to write
about since I started this blog. Mostly because as an outdoor enthusiast I feel thrilled and somewhat
obligated to provide highlights for the conservational efforts that help preserve and protect the natural
world that I love. The Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge is one such area.
Founded in 1974, by the congressman who is its namesake, this preserve spans 30,000 acres of salt
ponds, marshes, and open bay. It s notable not only for its ability to sun burn even the hardiest visitor,
but this place is an ornithologist s dream. Featuring a large diversity of wildlife from over 280 species
of birds (including raptors), endangered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But here in this coastal landscape I witnessed something that brought me to question the domination
of the apex predator. Rounding the path where the hills turn to marsh, a flock of birds swarmed
inflight before me. Watching, their movements seemed frantic. Diving and rising. Sporadically flying
this way or that. Some coming so close, that it felt as if I could reach out and touch them midflight.
And yet as they flew over my head I realized their motions weren t without form. They flew in unison.
Guided by instinct or habit or experience. The reason: predation. The flock of thrushes were harassing
a lone raptor. Probably because it ventured too near to their nest. The birds kept toe to toe with the
predator s dives and changes in direction. This seemingly defenseless prey was shepherding this
hunter. Working as group for their full survival. I watched them until they flew are beyond my sight.
Over the hills into the surrounding landscape. As I stood there for a while, with the smell of salt
lingering in the coastal air, I manage to lose myself in despite the closeness of industry around me. It
was a reminder that the nature is still so full of surprises. And without the contribution of others that I,
as well as the rest of the world around me, won t survive. For that I give thanks for all the hard work
of people who came before me. So that places so naturally wonderful, like this, still

It took the assassination of a President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. to force the issue
of gun control in this country (William J. Vizzard The current and future state of gun policy in the
United States ). The gun control act of 1968 was to prevent transfers of guns across state lines to
anyone that wanted a gun (Earl Kruschke, Gun Control: A reference handbook page 175). This act is
what put more emphasis on having licensed individuals or brick and mortar stores to sell guns to
people in the state or transfer guns across state lines. The GCA also put rules on who could and couldn

and adding to the list of those, such as convicted felons and drug users, who couldn t legally buy guns.

AP-Suffrage In England
Describe the steps taken between 1832 and 1918 to extend the suffrage in England. What group and
movements contributed to the extension of the vote? Several groups, movements and reform bills
passed between 1832 and 1918 extended the suffrage in England. The process took many years and
the voting rights were first given to the wealthier and more distinguished men, then later to the less
wealthy men, and finally to women. The major reform bills that extended the suffrage in England were
the Reform Bill of 1832, 1867, and 1884, and the Qualification of Women Act in 1917. (Mazour,
Peoples) The suffrage movement began in 1832 when the Reform Bill of 1832 was passed by
parliment. The Prime Minister since 1830, Earl Grey, authored the Bill and ... Show more content on

Another problem with the voting system was the lack of a private vote. Employers could influence the
way their employees voted by threatening to punish them if they failed to vote for their preffered
candidate. This problem was fixed in 1872, when William Gladstone s government passed the Ballot
Act which guaranteed a secret system of voting. Although the immediate results of the reform act were
not earth shattering, the country had taken, as Lord Derby said, a leap in the dark. Strikes, union
advances, and labor organization were powerful forces for change in the final years of the century.
William Gladstone was elected as Prime Minister of England for the second time in 1880 and the most
important legislative action that took place during his second ministry was the Reform Act of 1884.
The reform act was rejected the first time it was presented to the House of Lords, but accepted the
second time because it was accompanied by a redistribution act, which had the following implications.
(i) seventy nine towns with populations smaller than 15,000 lost their right to elect an MP; (ii) thirty
six with populations between 15,000 and 50,000 lost one of their MPs and became single member
constituencies; (iii) towns with populations between 50,000 and 165,000 were given two seats; (iv)
larger towns and the country constituencies were divided into single member constituencies

Poverty Is A Global Concern And Its Eradication
Poverty is a global concern and its eradication is becoming surmountable. This is primarily due to the
challenges posed by international and national causes respectively. Besides, the complexity of the
phenomenon has not lend itself to be easily eradicated. Little wonder the world continues to struggle
to eradicate poverty. Africa is one of the poorest countries on the universe and research and data show
that Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in Sub Sahara (UNDP, 2015). Sierra Leone s poverty
has been a growing concern in spite of its numerous natural resources and international financial and
economic interventions. It is therefore worth investigating the trends of the country s poverty and how
it has impacted its people in the country.
Therefore, task of this paper is to examine the trend in which poverty in Sierra Leone is either
changing or stagnating and the disadvantages associated with poverty among children. Consideration
will also be given to policy in relation to the findings.
The first part of the essay will give a summary of the historical background of the country. This
chapter will throw light into the socio political and economic foundations of Sierra Leone.
Chapter two of the essay will concentrate on the definition of poverty as perceived by different
authors. These definitions throw light into the different perspectives of poverty and discuss various
measurements in assessing poverty especially in developing countries.

What Is The Theme Of Law And Order In Lord Of The Flies
William Goldings Lord of the Flies represents the theme of Law and order throughout the novel.
During the novel the group of the boys are stuck on an island and some turn into savages. Golding
uses symbolism, characters and actions to represent law and order.
The conch was the first thing to gather all the boys on the island, for a meeting. The boys then
discussed how things should be done and they elect to vote for a chief. Him with the shell. Ralph, the
fair haired, good looking boy is voted as chief. But he isn t voted chief because of his age, leadership
skills or any form of democracy. Ralph was voted in as chief because he was the one who blew the
conch. The conch that would call the boys to sort out and discuss all the problems that they would
have over the months that the boys would spend on the island. During these meetings, the conch didn t
just call them, the conch allowed the holder to speak. To express their thoughts and ideas to all the
other boys. But as soon as fear and bloodthirst took over their minds, the conch didn t mean anything
to them and once this happened there was no way of getting them back. Soon Jack, Ralphs hunter,
turned too and decided to start his own group. Who ll join my tribe and have fun? Boy by boy, more
kids started to join Jacks tribe. Eventually the conch smashes and all breaks loose on the island. The
conch represented law and order on the island and once the conch was destroyed, Ralph s rules went
with it.

Characteristics of a Hero Essay
Characteristics of a Hero A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than
oneself (Campbell 1). When we think of heroes most of us think of movie stars or professional
athletes, but it s not always about your popularity or talent it can also be about how you help society.
What I think make a great hero is someone who is able to overcome his or her obstacles in life, is
highly motivated, and has plenty of bravery. Overcoming obstacles may be one of the hardest parts of
being a hero. I think it s the hardest because a lot of people are blocked from doing something and just
quit. A great example of this trait is Jackie Robinson. He was discriminated against because he was
African American. Even though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to be a successful hero you must be a highly motivated person. Without motivation you would
not be very successful because you would have no ambition to try and make a difference in the world.
I think Rodney Dangerfield is a great example of this because he started he career at just 15 and he
died while he was in the middle of a movie. Also when his wife tried to make him quit he just blew
their many years of happiness and divorced her. In one of his quotes he stated, At twenty a man is full
of fight and hope. He wants to reform the world. When he s seventy he still wants to reform the world
(Dangerfield 3). Bravery is a great trait for a hero to posses. I think bravery is a key quality because
you don t always know what lies ahead of you and you have to be brave to continue. A good example
of this is Charles Lindburgh. He was the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. I believe that
took a great amount of bravery because no one had ever made it across, so he didn t know what lie
ahead of him. One of his many good quotes he said, The most effective way to do it, is to just do it ,
(Lindburgh 1). So as you may see overcoming obstacles, being motivated and being outstandingly
brave is key to becoming a great hero.Like overcoming obstacles was very hard for

Featuring three groups of protagonists, namely the peasant champion who filed class action lawsuit against the government for over taxing, the Beijing citizens whose residence were destroyed for property development, and the daughter whose mother was killed in the suppression of Falun Gong, the book not only has envisioned me on some of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contemporary China, law is perceived by the public as the modern form of petitioning (Johnson, 2004, p. 52), an opportunity for ordinary citizens to seek for fair treatments and vindication of their rights. However, flaws in the Chinese legal system provide opportunities, one after another, for executive intervention and abuse of the regime, which renders law unable to protect the disadvantaged and exploited. From my point of view, the faulty legal system, has given the disadvantaged a sense of relative deprivation. Frustrated to rely on the ineffective formal channels, more people choose to engage in protests and rebellions to communicate their thoughts to the central authority and gain public attention. • 4. James Fennimore s Last Of The Mohicans The book last of Mohicans is a really good novel that gives a lot of action, romanticism and suspense, really gets the reader going. James Fennimore cooper really gave a historical background writing the novel last of the Mohicans. The novel represents the Mohicans (Mahican) and the parts of the history. James Fennimore cooper really had an accurate novel and an outstanding point of view. The Mohican tribe was really interesting and they originally came from the banks of the Hudson River, where it is now New York State. They also lived in many other places but unfortunately the Europeans came and killed many Mohicans. The surviving Mohicans had to move to the west. Later on the Mohicans moved to Stockbridge where they live today. The Mohican children lived like any other child they did there chores went to school and played games but there was a bit difference in today s children then in the Mohicans back then. The Mohicans children used to do more chores then they would play but what was really interesting is how they played the games, they were given miniature arrows where they would hunt for small animals and would often play ball games similar to soccer but a bit different, instead of using your feet you would use a ... The Social Security Act Of 1935 And Medicaid Insurance There has been an increasingly large amount of awareness placed on the governments role in prevention and standards for the control of health care and communicable diseases. In this growing effort are provisions applying to long term health and stipulations for proper treatment and care. Gradually, a shift from local community efforts to care for the elder has transferred to a prominent government role. Several committees have been created to assist with the implementation and over view of care and acts to instigate change. Amongst the major changes that have been set in place effecting long term care, was the passage of the Social Security Act of 1935 and Medicaid insurance. The Marine Hospital was founded to deliver federally funded care and began the materialization of the government s role in public health. As the government s role in public health remains, major changes have been put into effect, precisely dealing with long term care. Before the 1930 s, providing care for the elderly was exclusively a local and state run industry. However, after the great depression, a growing demand was placed on providing some type of insurance for that population. The Social Security Act of 1935 was established to assist with Federal old age benefits and was signed into effect by President Roosevelt on August 15, 1935. (Home, 2015) Another major impact to long term care has been the creation of Medicaid that went into effect in 1965 and was an amendment to the Social Security Act of 1935. Title XIX of the Social Security Act is a federal and state entitlement program that pays for medical assistance for certain individuals and families with low incomes and resources Medicaid is a collective effort between state and the government to help provide insurance for eligible citizens. Among those covered under this insurance, are the elderly, disabled and pregnant. Medicaid is the largest source of funding for medical care. Affects of Ph on Peroxidase Enzyme The Affects of pH on Peroxidase Enzyme Claire Bell Biology 1130 Jazmen Myers Section 36 Abstract Peroxidase is a turnip enzyme; it is used in the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide to lower activation energy, speeding up the reaction. The activity of peroxidase is highly dependent on its environment and most importantly the pH level. Peroxidase has been the focus of many recent studies and is believed to possibly reduce swelling among other things. We conducted an experiment testing the effect different levels of pH had on the reaction rate of peroxidase. In the experiment we created different solutions all containing hydrogen peroxide, peroxidase, and guaiacol. However each cuvette contained a different pH level, 2,5,7,or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the blank cuvettes, the 2 mL of pH levels 2,5,7, and 10 were added first, followed by the 1mL of peroxidase. However our experimental cuvettes contained both hydrogen peroxide and guaiacol. Before the cuvettes were placed in the spectrophotometer we added 0.1 mL of H202, followed by 0.02 mL of guaiacol these two substances were added last immediately before they were placed in the spectrophotometer. Para film was placed over the cuvette opening, and the assay solution was shaken and placed into the spectrophotometer where its saturation level was then tested. We recorded the saturation level of the solution every 15 seconds for 3 minutes. This process was repeated two times for each pH level for a total of two trials. Results Figure one depicts the reaction rate of peroxidase enzyme over time. The y axis shows the absorbance of the assay solutions, and the x axis depicts time it took for the reaction to occur in seconds. Figure 2 is a representation of the average saturation of each cuvette at a specific point time as a function. The y axis shows the specific saturation points from figure 1, and the x axis provides the different levels of pH. The pH scale provided on the x axis ranges from 0 to 14, 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the most basic. The point chosen from figure 1 was the saturation levels of each cuvette at 110 seconds. • 8. The Early Modern Period Of The English Language England from the 16th to 18th century was undergoing an immense change in its social structure and cultural practice due to the innovations from the Renaissance (late 15th to early 17th C), the Reformation (16th to 17th C) and the Scientific Revolution (17th to 18th C). Firmly situated in this context is the Early Modern Period of the English language, starting from approximately 1500 CE and continuing through to 1700 CE, which saw the language move from Middle English (1100 1500 CE) into a language more recognisable to the one spoken by English speakers today. Crucial to these transformations are the introduction of the printing press to England by William Caxton in 1476 and the influence of role of Latin in European education during this period. These circumstances shaped the use of and attitudes towards English, especially in relation to its standardization, definition of correct English and the spread of literacy. Ultimately, transforming English into a language respected and highly appreciated in this period. The printing press set up in Westminster by William Caxton in 1476 was the first of its kind in England and is frequently taken to be the date that marks the emergence of Early Modern English . This innovation also marks the beginning of the standardization, and eventually regulation, of the English language, thus greatly impacting the use of English in this period and moving forwards into the present. The first question I get asked when I meet people is always about being a twin. Oh you are a twin? Have you ever switched classes with one another? How is it like being a twin? are just some of the questions I am barraged with. While the questions may not seem harmful, to me they are extremely annoying and almost insulting. It shows that they do not care about who I am, but rather who we are. It is a painful realisation to know that some of the people who I know are only my friend because I am a twin. • 11. The Enlightenment And The Glorious Revolution The Enlightenment is said to have begun in the 1680 s, the same decade that the Glorious Revolution occurred, which crowned daughter of James II Mary and her husband Prince William of Orange Monarchs of England. This turning point in English history can be considered part of the Enlightenment due to the switch from an Absolute Monarchy to a Constitutional Monarchy and the passing of the English Bill of Rights in 1689 after William s ascension to the throne. The passing of the English Bill of Rights ushered in a new age for England, giving the power of the Monarchy to the Parliament, and banning the Monarch from adjourning Parliament or going against the opinion of its majority. The Bill lists that many tyrannical actions that had previously been made by many kings, such as levying money and suspending/revoking laws were illegal without the consent of Parliament (Document 3), essentially giving Parliament control of the direction of English law. The English Bill of Rights was ratified by William in 1689, which directly stated multiple times that the ruler s power was to be checked by Parliament, thus inhibiting them from exercising full power over the people, preventing tyranny. He states in Document 2 that he and his wife Mary will concur in everything that may procure the peace and happiness of [the] nation, which a free and lawful Parliament shall determine... Diastolic dysfunction is observed in 40 60% of diabetics with heart failure, this occur through a pathological processes that cause stiffening of the myocardium due to cross linking and extracellular matrix deposition, hypertrophy, and neuronal abnormalities (Rakowski et al., 1996), (Zile Brutsaert 2002), (Laing et al., 2003), (Drury et al., 2011), (Forbes Cooper 2013). Many factors play a role in development of CVD in diabetes as dyslipidemia, poor glycemic control that cause direct damage to myocardium, or affect through atherosclerotic process , while other factors are still controversial (Zile Brutsaert 2002), (Hogan et al., 2003), (Laing et al., 2003), (Paterson et al., 2007), (Fowler 2008), (Forbes Cooper 2013). The current study investigated effect of different coronary risk factors on the risk of development of heart failure such as age, gender, presence of medical comorbidities as (DM, hypertension and CAD), smoking, Body mass index (BMI), blood sugar and lipid profile and results showed that both DM and CAD had strong association with development of heart failure as well as obesity measured by BMI and cholesterol level. This agreed with many studies that showed that diabetes is a strong independent risk factor for left ventricular dysfunction and the presence of addition coronary risk factors increase the risk such as age, sex, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, positive family history, and smoking (Jurkovicova D et al., 2006). • 14. Why Did The American Colonists Have Their Rights Essay Great Britain operated colonies in America for over 150 years. Throughout this time period, the colonists governed themselves fairly and justly with little interference from Great Britain. Then, British government jumped in and suddenly started treating the colonists as a lesser people. Why did the American colonist have the rights of Englishmen? The American colonists had the rights of Englishmen because they were subjects of the British rule, and all subjects of the king or queen lived their rights as Englishmen. Even though the colonists were natives of Great Britain, which should have given them equal rights of the British, their rights were violated. The colonist s family and friends, who had just arrived from Great Britain felt as if they were stripped of their rights and treated as rebels. What ideas did colonists in America use when they formed their own governments? When forming their own government the colonists had many ideas, for example Natural Rights and Rule of Law, which were based off of different, well developed governments. The colonist s base of government was a representative government where the people choose their representatives. They also used the valuable ideas from the British documents. • 16. The Indian Removal Act Native American History In the early 1830 s, President Andrew Jackson, authorized the Indian Removal Act. The Cherokee Indians and many other Indian Tribes were forcefully removed from their homeland in a brutal and inhumane manner. During this hard journey, many Cherokee Indians died, this journey was called The Trail of Tears which was the forced relocation of the Native American, and these tragedies resulted from the enforcement of the Treaty of New Echota, an agreement signed under the requirements of the Indian Removal Act. The Indian Removal Act, of 1830, provided funds for uprooting Five Civilized Tribes, the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole with a population around 60,000 living in North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi (Foner 393). Throughout the whole movement of the Indians, many of them died during the journey while others died as they were left behind to try and fight for their land. In a case involving Indians in 1823, Johnson vs. M Intosh, the court had claimed that Indians were not in fact owners of their land, but merely had a right to occupancy (Foner 394). The chief justice John Marshall claimed that from the early colonial era, Indians had lived as nomads and hunters, not farmers. • 17. Reflection On Good Life With help from Socrates, Aristotle, and Mill, we have recently developed many well informed outlooks on what a good life is capable of looking like. What is your understanding of the good life? This is an interesting question because the term good life is taken subjectively by many people. The word good itself means morally excellent, while the word life refers to a living being. Put the two words together and it becomes more of a decision making process than a modified and opinionated noun. It is essentially building your foundation as a person, and can reward you with many benefits. The good life is a series of actions in which you accomplish in order to make yourself happy, wise, and well cared for in the future. In the text, Selections from APOLOGY, by Plato, translated by Benjamin Jowett, we learn about Socrates view on the good life. He taught his philosophy and ways of thinking, to people for free, as he deemed happiness did not come from material things, like money. Socrates, instead, believed that an active mind is a happier mind. He was all about thoughtfulness, and questioning everything. He did a lot of self examination and became completely aware of who he was, and wanted to be in the future. On page fourteen, Socrates states ... a man who is good for anything ought not to calculate the chance of living or dying; he ought only to consider whether in doing anything he is doing right or wrong acting the part of a good man or of a bad. One particular parasite infection in the human race now is toxoplasma gondii, by the protozoan parasite. It is one of the most common parasitic infections of man and other warm blooded animals. Nearly one third of humanity has already been exposed to this parasite. Adolescence Is A Form Of Social Rejection Adolescence is a period of clear gains in intelligence and cognitive skills and one of intense emotions and impulsive behavior (Johnson de Haan, 2015). We experience a higher sensitivity to rejection during this time and place great importance of peer relationships (Masten et al., 2009). Frequent experiences of social rejection have been linked with lasting somatic, psychosomatic, and internalizing disorders (Wolke Lereya, 2015), such as depression and anxiety (Rigby, 2000; as cited in Masten et al., 2009). Educators and researchers alike have attempted to intervene in hopes of reducing antisocial behaviors like bullying, a form of social rejection. In this paper, I will (1) go over what adolescence is and broad developmental changes during this period; (2) affective causes of social rejection; (3) some effects of social rejection during adolescence; and lastly (4) some concluding statements and future directions. Adolescence and broad changes during this period According to Crone and Dahl (2011), adolescence is a transition phase between childhood and adulthood. They, and many other researchers (e.g, Arnett, 2015), do not believe that the beginning and end have clear cut boundaries. Somewhat helpfully, a general range of adolescence has been agreed upon in the literature and is between the ages of 9 and 19; this uses the onset of pubertal maturation as a marker. His non violent and non cooperative civil disobedience provided a sense of truth and firmness. Better known as Satyagraha, as coined by Gandhi, became one of the best methods to fight injustices. In 2005, a breakdown occupying the Faroe Islands commenced leaving all workers to protest in hopes for raises throughout their civil disobedience acts. During the 1980s, the US government used the Marshall Islands as a nuclear test site and natives used non violent protests in hopes to end the lease and be able to return back to their homes.
