Religion Reflection
Before taking American Religious Lives, I had previously taking Mystery and Meaning, that was my
first encounter with religion. Essentially everything that we have learned in the class has been new to
me because I do not have any prior experience with American religion, since my other Religious
Studies class focused on Asian and Native American religions. Growing up I never went to church
growing up, but I was baptized, but never understood what that meant. I do no think of myself who is
involved or a part of any religion. The fact that I am unfamiliar makes the class very challenging for
me, but it is also a good type of challenge because it makes me work harder to understand all the
topics discussed in class and it makes me really have to think deeper about all the topics. Not being
associated with any religion is also helpful because I can be an outsider and not have a biased opinion
and not have to choose a side of the different religious perspectives. Religion seems like it is a very
complex topic, where a lot of religions in America have different sects and each sect has a different
background. I knew that Christianity was the most popular religion in America, but I did not know
about all the different sects and that Christianity as a whole is the faith of over 70% of Americans and
that most of the other 30% is made up of people who are unaffiliated with any religion. (Wormald, 1).
Another topic that I found intriguing was that most of the immigrants that come to

The Lack Of Psychical Activity
The lack of psychical activity is another growing issue. Some people are quick to blame computers,
television, and other sources as the driving forces behind childhood obesity. Food for thought: Who
allows the child to sit in front of the computer or television for hours? Computers and televisions have
become built in babysitters for some parents Television and the Internet may contribute to obesity
rates a little; however, these are not the only factors that decide whether a child becomes obese. In
fact, according to the WHO survey, parents are just as much at fault for making their children obese as
outside influences are. Mothers tipped the scale with 91 percent of them being primary caregivers in
the telephone survey, and were the ones responsible for the foods offered to, cooked for (and chosen
by) the children. A parent allowing access to so many choices of unhealthy snacks convenient foods,
and sitting in front of the television or Internet is only part of the problem. Medical care and
nutritional education of the children is obviously the parents responsibility, but so many parents are
careless about basic nutrition and the need for exercise. In addition, how many parents just don t have
the gumption to battle with their preschoolers regarding what they eat? Some parents have the attitude
that at least they are eating SOMETHING . We ve all been there, at our wit s end just trying to get a
picky 2 year old toddler to eat some kind of fruit and then

The Impact Of Debussy s Influence On The Works Of Richard...
In 1888, Debussy traveled to Bayreuth, hearing Parsifal and Meistersinger there, followed by Tristan
the next year. His trips to Bayreuth mark the beginning of Debussy s intentional shift away from
Wagner. Wagner s domination of the French musical society occurred gradually over a period of about
forty years. Elaine Brody writes that in the 1840s the French regarded Wagner as a madman; by the
1880s they had placed him on a pedestal. Debussy himself was became swept up in the fervor of
Wagnerism. While the Debussy heard Wagner s Tristan while in Rome, it was Parsifal that had the
biggest impact on the French composer. But despite the overwhelming support for Wagner s music,
Debussy returned from Bayreuth feeling that he needed to free himself from the German s influence;
he wanted to to develop a style that was characteristically French and free of German influences. ...

After returning from Rome, Debussy began frequenting bistros, literary cafes, and attended gatherings
at Edmond Bailly s shop of rare books, where he read books exposing him to religious symbolism.
Through his newly acquired connections, he was invited to attend Staphane Mallarmé s Tuesday
evening salon. At these events, he participated in discussions of literature, art, music, and heard many
works by Mallarmé and other Symbolists. Mallarmé s notion of of the arabesque is something that
Debussy latched onto. Barbara Kelly described Debussy s concept of arabesque as an undulating
melodic line, independent of any notion of development of themes...subject to varied repetition. This
is a concept that would prevail through Debussy s mature compositional

The Story Of American Slavery
For the story of American slavery to be complete, it has to include the ills of the system, the changes
created in the aftermath of emancipation and the precipitous slide down into the sins of segregation.
Many books about slavery and the brutality of the life that so many people had to endure have been
written over the years. In this book, David Blight tells the story about two men, John M. Washington
(1838 1918) and Wallace Turnage (1846 1916) and their escape from slavery during the Civil War.
Their escape to freedom occurred during the chaos of this nation s most bloody war and amidst a
political and cultural conflict, which had been ripping the country apart for many decades.
Throughout the Civil War, in thousands of different circumstances, under changing policies and
redefinitions of their status, and in the face of social chaos caused by huge military campaigns and
destruction, four million slaves helped to decide what time it would be in American History (Blight,
2007, p. 5). Whether it was freedom from a master or overseer, freedom from living as both property
and the object of another person s will, or even freedom to make their own decisions and control their
own life, slaves wanted a sense of independence. According to Blight (2007), The war and the
presence of Union armies and navies opened pathways to freedom for them, as it did many slaves (p.
6). Both Washington and Turnage found their path to freedom in their own unique way, and both

John Proctor s Excessive Pride In The Crucible By Arthur...
In The Crucible, both honor and excessive pride play a role in the portrayal of John Proctor
throughout the play. Pride is an attribute that makes someone feel like he or she is worth something
but when someone is excessively prideful, they are over confident and often conceited. Proctor s
excessive pride caused him avoid telling the truth in the story told by Arthur Miller in The Crucible.
Proctor was a proud man who seemed to set himself apart from the community of Salem,
Massachusetts. No one could have seen him as prideful, as John was a religious man, or so everyone
thought. His pride caused him to cover who he really was a man who struggled with sin. Elizabeth
Proctor, his wife, wanted him to admit his sins and put an end to Abigail Williams scheme that had
brought about a witch hunt but John Proctor does not come clean until Elizabeth is among those
accused and he feels guilt over his previous relationship with Abigail, the accuser. John Proctor s pride
put him into a painful situation that could have been avoided if he had been honest from the
beginning. If he had told the truth about Abigail before the accusations of witchcraft began, he may
have saved the lives of many innocent people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He could not see that he needed to be honest about Abigail s accusations of witchcraft that continued
to grow. Proctor s pride brought him sorrow when his wife was accused but it was a turning point to
his decision to come clean about his adulterous affair with Abigail. He confessed soon after her
accusation, I have made a bell of my honor! I have rung the doom of my good name...My wife is
innocent, except she knew a whore when she saw one (Miller 49)! At this point, John Proctor shows
that he is honorable when he puts away his pride to defend his innocent wife. As a last effort to
preserve some degree of pride he refuses to sign a confession that would forever taint his

Analysis Of Jonathan Kozol s The Mechanics Of The Book
I. Analysis of the mechanics of the book. In today s society, there are issues that are more important
than another. There may be some disagreements on which issue is more important than the rest. Which
leads to the most important topic in life, education. At a young age, we are enrolled in school from
kindergarten to senior year of high school. When you hit high school you are preparing for your
future; attending college, joining the work force, the military, etc. However, one thing seems to go
unnoticed, this is the notion that a young ones career as a student is simply molded when they are in
their elementary years. This now leads to the topic of this essay; Jonathan Kozol s book and his
research on students from the inner city. It appears that Jonathan Kozol took the organization of his
book very seriously. In fact, I believe that his book was organized very well. When it comes to the
type of organization used, deciding which was used is ultimately up to the reader. Personally, I believe
that Kozol used topical organization. The reason being is that each chapter had a different topic with
an underlying message. Although at points it may have seemed that he was listing everything in
chronological order, Kozol stuck with the examples that were relevant to the theme of that individual
chapter. If Kozol were to use another form of organization, chronological perhaps, his book would not
be much different. I feel that is he were to use this form, his powerful

A Brief Note On Mount Everest Is 8848 M Height
Mount Everest is 8,848 m height, which considered one of the top highest mountain in the world, it is
located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas. Thousands of climbers successfully have made it
to the top. Unfortunately, some people were unable to reach the peak of the mountain and lost their
life. Many researchers have found in their studies about obstacles that the climbers faced before
reaching the summit. One of them is pollution. What are the causes of pollution of Mount Everest, and
what are the solutions to stop these problems? Rubbish and death body are the two things that
contribute to pollution. There are also some possible solution for these problems to prevent pollution
today and for the future. First of all, rubbish is becoming a major problem regarding to pollution that
many experts have concerns of. But behind them, they have left a trail of destruction creating an
average of 50 tons of rubbish, including discarded oxygen canisters, climbing gear and food
packaging, every year. The problem escalated to the point where the fragile ecosystem of the
Himalayas was under threat (Steve Robson). Human waste which is included food packaging,
climbing gear, tents and water bottle that left by climbing tourists every year. There is also hazardous
waste such as oxygen cylinders are known as toxic chemical when it is unused and leave for longer
time. It could be harmful to the health of people who live closed by the Mount Everest and tourists as

Explain The Structure Of The Heart
The heart is the organ that pumps blood throughout the body and to your lungs. It supplies nutrients
and oxygen to many tissues and removes the waste products and carbon dioxide. The heart has 4
chambers called the left and right atrium and the left and right ventricle. These are separated by valves
that stop the backflow of the blood that may occur due to the pumping motion. The other two valves
separate the entrances to the aorta and the pulmonary artery. The right side of your heart receives de
oxygenated blood from the aorta which is bringing the blood from which cells have extracted nutrients
and oxygen. It then pumps this blood to the lungs which releases the carbon dioxide and replenishes
the oxygen. This blood then comes back through

The Pros And Cons Of Absolutism
Absolutism, a form of government where the rulers word is law. All aspects are decided by the one in
charge and his word is absolute. In this form of government the ruler will typically have trusted
advisers but besides simple recommendations they have no real power. An absolute government has
all aspects such as religion, political standing and economy decided by its ruler.
In 1961 thomas hobbes wrote that the passions that incline men to peace are the fear of death. When a
man wants something he can fight and take a chance to get it. Most men fear that chance as they may
die and lose everything, but the thought of coming out on top is enough to encourage these actions in
individuals. These individuals can incite others who would have normally turned down the challenge.
In a case when the odds are not in favor of those goals set by an individual leading others one must not
hesitate with what must be done. Hobbes understood that if there was no concise ruler that there was a
sort of stutter when doing things taking action required to go through the proper channels. When 10
men are in control they must all agree but when only one man is in control all that must be done is let
them decide entirely.
When Bossuet talks about power he states that it must be employed with fear and self restraint as it is
a blessing bestowed upon the ruler by god. Bossuet says that the throne is not for man but a place for
man to speak the will of god. Unlike in absolutism Bosset says that these

What Is William Tell Overture Form
For my classical piece of choice, I chose William Tell Overture which was composed by Gioachino
Rossini. It was first premiered in 1829 and the length of the piece is approximately twelve minutes but
are broken down. For the instrumentation of the piece, there was a piccolo, flute, tow oboes, and two
clarinets, and two bassoons in the windwood. There was four french horns, two trumpets, three
trombones, in brass. Cymbals, triangle, bass drums, and timpani in percussion and a various about of
violins, violas, cellos, and double basses in string. With these selected instruments, Rossini
constructed the piece into four parts.

Community crime prevention programs play a vital role across the world in regards to the community
style of police service. These types of programs heavily involve participating members of the

FARC In Colombia
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) were formed in 1964 with the stated intention
of overthrowing the government and installing a Marxist regime. After modest beginnings, the group
rose to prominence through the 1980s and 1990s as its association with the drugs trade improved its
financial standing. At its peak, it was the largest and best equipped guerrilla force in Latin America.
According to a timeline written by BBC (2016) the major events throughout the armed conflict history
in Colombia is as it follows: In 1964, the FARC was formed by Manuel Marulanda after fleeing a
government assault on communist groups in the country. In 1966, The FARC were adopted by the

Senator Ingrid Betancourt was kidnapped and held for six years before being rescued by the

Why Is Tricking Wrong
Tricking and Deceiving Making a person or thing hard to get is a bad way to get what one wants,
because it fools people and tricks them. According to The New York Times, in the article, The States
of Forced Labor , it states, First, securing a position often means paying a local recruiter a $2,000 fee,
usually obtained through a loan with an extortionate interest rate . . . the terms of which may state that
the job pays only $200 a month, far less than promised, with housing costs deducted from that. This
leaves approximately $100 a month barely enough to cover the loan interest on their recruiting fee.

For example by making work special other people are going to want to take over your work. However
this is incorrect, because this method actually teaches laziness. According to Scott Francis, in the
article Taking the Easy Way Out Instead of Doing the Hard Work , he states, It s tempting to take
shortcuts or the path of least resistance. But beyond being lazy, it can also seriously undermine your
recruiting goals and your reputation. Francis shows that taking the easy way can result in serious
trouble. Later in life people will stop working, trying to find the easy way out. The problem with this
is there isn t always an easy way out. In Mark Twain s novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom
tricks people into whitewashing for him by making the job special and hard to do. Tom tells people
that it has to be done in a very certain way so other people will find it interesting. After Tom operates
his method he goes away and plays with toys. If Tom will never work he will become lazy and
immature. In my life, these experiences have happened. When I was younger I would try to make it so
that counting numbers was fun. Many people wanted to try to attempt my work at a price. After they
stopped paying I procrastinated my work at school because of laziness, and I had trouble keeping up.
As shown above, looking for an easy way out for work is not the answer, because this practice

Inspector Calls Essay
What do you think is the importance of Inspector Goole and how does Priestley present him?
Inspector Goole creates a massive presence within An Inspector Calls and through him we are able to
explore each character and Priestly himself. The Inspector is a vital character within the play and
allows Priestly to channel through his thoughts, feelings and messages to society by creating the
seemingly omniscient Inspector Goole. In the essay I will illustrate the importance of the Inspector
and demonstrate how Priestly presents him.

In addition, his name Goole infers and has connotations of ghoul which is an evil spirit therefore
indicating that he might not be human. Priestly uses a dramatic device of lighting change pink and
intimate to brighter and harder to really show how the Inspector is different to the others and this in
turn reflects his harsh personality and how the atmosphere changes so much when he s around relating
to his other world presence.
Mrs Birling is a character that is affected by the Inspector in a superficial way: she s more bothered
about what other people will think about her being involved than how she actually helped kill a poor
woman. We see the two contrasts of how Sheila reacts and how Mrs Birling reacts which is effective
as Priestly is able to demonstrate that the Inspector is like a conscience of the family; like in the real
world some people are able to ignore their conscience and not feel bad whereas some people really
feel their guilt when they have done something wrong. This therefore is why the Inspector is so
important in the play, and in his last speech he makes reference to the World War 1 and 2 and how
people had still not learnt their lesson (used dramatic irony but applies it to the Birling s situation) and
sets it straight to them that if they have

Technology is defined as the application of knowledge to extend human capabilities by equipment or a

This is because if it were not for technology our work would not be as efficient or productive. New

Technology doesn t keep the person away from religion; in fact, technology is an aid for different
religious groups to spread their religion. For example, the religion of Islam has many authentic
websites of its own, as well as, different channels on YouTube to promote videos of different scholars
and lectures. It is educating people about the real message of the religion with help of technology. The
younger generations are learning about different religions by reading about it from the information
provided on websites. People in the past did not have many resources to learn about their religion
before but now it has become very easy. It is up to the individual person to learn from the knowledge
offered or to ignore it. Humanism believes that this world is important and that knowledge is
important. With knowledge one is able to get more from technology and is benefitted. We all know
technology has its ills but it is how you solve them that matters. With technology, our earth is facing
the problem of overpopulation, pollution, globalization and economic collapse. To maintain

Analysis Of Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
The film is deeply metaphorical when it comes to describing the effects of September 11, 2001 on the
lives of other citizens. It shows how families dealt with the loss of their loved ones, and how the
community dealt with the loss of their city. Oskar, who is an eleven year old autistic boy, lost his
father in the September 11th attacks. His father would always send him on quests to find something
new. His father did this to encourage Oskar to work on his social skills and become better at dealing
with situations. After his father s death, Oskar no longer had any quests. Then, one day he was looking
through his father s closet and found an envelope that had a key inside of it when he dropped a vase
and it shattered on the floor. Oskar decided that this was his dad s final quest for him and that he must
find out what the key belongs to. When he first began looking for the key s lock, he discovered the
name Black on the envelope it was in.The quests that he goes on are figurative for how he will get
closure from his father s death. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is a nonfiction film directed by
Stephen Daldry that represents represents closure through the key because Oskar overcomes his fears,
becomes closer with his father, and slowly opening up about the day his father died. Following his
father s death, Oskar no longer goes on quests. This means that he is not doing anything to help him
overcome his fears. He is no longer working on his social skills. When

Cover Contest Reflection
In the summer of 2016, I decided to enter the Luzerne county fair s guide cover contest. I came across
a problem, however; I missed the deadline and would need to wait till next year. I still went to the fair
in September to see my competition in other categories I entered, and to look at who won the cover
contest. When I saw the winning cover, I became discouraged. It was much better than anything I
could draw. I thought I wouldn t have a chance in next year s contest. I continued on in the fair,
wondering at what would happened if I entered next year. In May of 2017, I gained my enthusiasm
back. This time, I became determined to win the cover contest. More importantly, I became
determined to gain confidence in myself. I started working on

The Poetry of Tosa Nikki and Oku No Hosomichi Essay
The origins of kiko, or travel literature, in Japan spans to well over 1000 years ago. One of the earliest
examples of kiko is Ki no Tsurayuki s Tosa nikki, a diary which Tsurayuki wrote most likely in 935
during the Heian period of Japan. Another important example of kiko, which is similar in ways yet
also very dissimilar to Ki no Tsurayuki s Tosa nikki, due in part to the many years that the two are
separated by in terms of when they were composed, is Matsuo Basho s Oku no hosomichi, or Narrow
Road to the Interior/Narrow Road to the Deep North, which was written in the late 17th century
during the Edo period of Japan. Ki no Tsurayuki s Tosa nikki describes Tsurayuki s return to his home
in the capital after having completed his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So are the years that pass by. Those who steer a boat across a sea, or drive a horse over the earth till
they succumb to the weight of years, spend every minute of their lives traveling. There are a great
number of ancients, too, who died on the road. I myself have been tempted for a long time by the
cloud moving wind filled with a strong desire to wander.
While Ki no Tsurayuki was returning to the capital due to his urge to go home and perhaps even more
so because of his position as a court official, Matsuo Basho was journeying from his own personal
desire to do so, as a Zen monk as well as from his desires as a poet to see the wild north of Japan and
the places that many famous poets from before him had been to. This mood of Basho in Oku no
hosomichi works against the sort of traditional poetic essence of travel as seen in the Tosa nikki: to
have a longing for the capital. In Oku no hosomichi, the road becomes home establishing a new view
on traveling: that one has no center and no return. Basho literally makes the road his home, for he sells
his house in Edo before going on his long journey, and gives up most of his earthly possessions.
During the Tosa nikki, the mood of Tsurayuki is often melancholy whereas in Oku no hosomichi there
is some suffering, but

Lab Report On Osmosis
The Osmosis and Diffusion lab was conducted to provide us with information on how built up mucus
affects those conflicted by the recessive genetic disease, Cystic Fibrosis., due to a mutation to the
membrane regulating chloride (Cl ). This mutation prevents the Cl from leaving the cell causing the
amount of sodium (Na+) in epithelial cells, which results in extreme mucus on the lungs and airways
causing this disease to be fatal if not treated but treatment does not equate to a long lifetime. During
the lab we took the data from three parts: Diffusion, Osmosis in an Elodea Cell, and finally the Role of
Osmosis in Cystic Fibrosis. During Part 1 we looked at diffusion across a semipermeable membrane
for starch and glucose, which resulted in both having a negative solution when placed in a
semipermeable membrane. Then we looked at osmosis in the Elodea Cell to watch for the occurrence
of Plasmolysis, when a cell s plasma membrane pulls away from the cell, and how a plant cell is
affected by both hypertonic and hypotonic solutions. Finally, we observed the role of Osmosis in
Cystic Fibrosis using dialysis bags to represent a normal cell and a Cystic Fibrosis cell with the
normal containing 1% NaCl while the Cystic Fibrosis bag contained 10% NaCl. After we ran the
experiment, we looked at the Percent Change in Mass and compared them after 30 minutes. We found
that Cystic Fibrosis cells didn t change mass as much as the normal cell ending with a change in mass
over 1%. The

Individual Analysis for Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant
Engstrom Auto Mirror plant, as a privately owned business, it manufactured mirrors for trucks and
automobiles. The managers aimed to increase productivity for sustainable development of the
company. Back in 1998, to pursue highly productivity, the plant was redesigning its production lines
to incorporate new technology, however, the transition was not smooth, some problems had emerged,
such as the staffs moral and efficiency declining and the internal contradictions being intensified
between the managers and employees. As the result of it, the previous manger resigned in 1998. After
that, the new manager, Ron Bent believed in the power of worker incentive programs and wanted to

According to my analysis, the problems are distrust between the managers and employees and
unfairness of rewards between the employees and supervisors. In order to keep productivity and
profitability of the plant, it should resolve the issues urgently before the situation deteriorated further. I
recommend the option two is better for Bent to deal with these problems for the plant. Firstly,
communication is the most important factor that affects the relationship between managers and
employees. If the managers could listen advices of the work in time from their employees, it not only
will be more easier to handle the existing problem in the company, but also will improve the
relationship between managers and employees because the staff feel the company takes, to respect and
to trust them, feel oneself is in enterprise s one, and they can have the confidence and the sense of
responsibility for the development of their company. Secondly, it is to give the appreciation by
managers to employees frequently that will improve the employee morale because they will feel more
attached to their company. As the result of this, employees will devote to their work without any
complaint. Consequently, because of the improvement of relationship and employee morale, the
efficiency and productivity of company will improve with the efforts of all staff and give them
corresponding reward. Although the first option is probably to resolve the crisis

Track Multi Target As Camera Motion Essay
MCMC particle filter
In this project, it is challenging issue to track multi target as camera motion is unknown. To deal with
this issue and targets occlusion, the camera parameters are calculated and targets were also tracked
within the 3D coordinates [W. Choi] at the same time. To be specific, it is aimed 1) to solve the multi
object tracking issue by using a single non calibrated camera, [W. Choi] 2). to deal with complicated
scenes in which multiple pedestrians are moving and occluding each other [W. Choi] at the same time,
3). to calculate the 2D/3D trajectories within the camera reference system [W. Choi].
The important task in this project was to calculate camera parameters (such as camera pose and focal
length of a camera) and track objects such as pedestrians as they move in the scene [W. Choi]. Tracks
are helpful in calculating the parameters of a camera by using their velocity and scale within the image
plane; simultaneously, camera parameters can help to follow objects very robustly as previous
important information is available. This enables to calculate object 3D trajectories in the reference
system of a camera. The author used a simplified camera model which allows finding a powerful
compact relationship between the variables such as camera parameters and target, with the help of
projection constraints of a camera. The identification of a handful of feature tracks which associated
with the static background allows adding extra constraints to the camera

All About France
France is located in the northern hemisphere around 46° N and 2° E in Western Europe. As shown in
the political map of Europe in Figure 1 above, France is bordered by the Bay of Biscay to the west, the
English Channel to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south as well as the countries of Spain,
Andorra, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium.
France is the largest country in Western Europe with a total land area of around 213,010 square miles
(551,695 square kilometers). Two thirds of the country is made up of fertile plains with about half of
the land under cultivation.
The physical map in Figure 2 shows that France s major mountain ranges are mostly in the south,
including the Alps, Pyrenees, and Massif Central. Its major rivers are the Seine, Rhine, and Rhône.
About a quarter of the land area is covered in forests which is a valuable environmental resource.
Cities and Regions of France
France is made up of 27 administrative regions but 5 of these are overseas territories. This leaves 22

Andy Warhol s Telephone
To complete my project I decided to visit the museum of contemporary art. The piece I m going to
focus on is Andy Warhol s Telephone, which was painted in 1961. I had already chosen to do my essay
on this piece because I d been interested in Warhol and his overarching themes of consumerism and
product idolization in America. Although this piece isn t blatantly judging America and its
materialistic mentality, I like the commentary he was attempting to make about traditional and modern
forms of art. Upon first seeing this piece I was taken aback by its size. I d seen a photo of the work on
MOCA s website, but to see it in person truly was a different experience. When I began to really look
at it, I noticed how clean cut all the lines were and made the assumption that Warhol had used silk
screening as he did in many of his pieces. However, when I read the description on the side and found
out he hand painted it I was extremely surprised. There aren t any visible brush strokes, the lines are
clean and the colors look so solid. Instead of depicting a modern telephone of his time he illustrated
one that could be decades old. This is a painting that because of its subject material and creation
method, could ve been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just by looking at it most would assume he used silk screening like I had assumed. This could stem
back to Warhol s constant attempts to make his audience believe that his work meant less than it really
did. He was hiding the meaning by making it look like his other pieces in that aspect. Just another
piece to be visually consumed by his audience. It wasn t meant to be analyzed, only enjoyed. This also
thought this could mean that even if a piece of art is hand drawn people don t appreciate that form of
art as much as they used to. Art is art and the method is no longer a tool for judging value or artistic
ability, so conspicuously displaying the techniques he used was an unnecessary waste of

Compare And Contrast Steinback And Jarrell
War is a history battle of nations and races against one another for their domination. War does two
things, it either hurts or helps. A war binds people together if it is justified of course and it hardens the
people. Overall, war happens because of national, cultural, and racial discrimination and it effects the
soldiers in combat accordingly to their position on the battlefield or their ability to survive. Moreover,
the writings of Steinback and Jarrell would be really effective in changing both public opinion and
policy. Steinback and Jarrell offer many consistent accounts of what combat feels like to them in their
own eyes ad experiences.

Describe The Relationship Between Putin And Thomas Hobbes
Russia s power has increased a lot over the past few years. Not only has their nation increased power,
so has their leader, Vladimir Putin. Putin has many interesting aspects as a person and in his
governmental styles. He gained these from many different people including Thomas Hobbes, and John
Locke. Vladimir Putin s policies are both supported by John Locke and Thomas Hobbes, but when it
comes to Vladimir Putin as a person only Hobbes is right.
Putin believes that one man can control all and prevent damage from occurring. While working in the
KGB he began discovering the power and strength one man can have. He started to think along the
lines of Thomas Hobbes; believing the ideas that all men are evil and need one ruler to control them.

financial institutions ( )Although he may have a intense personality, when it comes to government and
his people he tries to make their life better. Putin maybe want all control but he can t have that if his
own country is thinking of a revolt. To prohibit this He pays off the debts they had with other
countries. Russia has understood what debts can do to your people when they are being prolonged to
pay off. Although Putin may want to be their one supreme leader he can not accomplish that if he has
to worry about possible revolutions. When some people first come to office, they typically try to make
their plans happen. This wasn t the case when Vladimir Putin came to power. When Putin came to be
president he was a faced with a serious issue that was previously left for him, he had to solve the
Ukraine conflict. The power of the Society, or legislative, constituted by them, can never be supposed
to extend farther that the common good. (Locke) This shows that Putin did this to better the good of
his people, while doing so he also made his country even safer than it was originally. Solving the
Ukraine conflict allowed people within and around that area to feel safer. Instead of being neutral in
the situation like other countries, he got involved. Putin may appear fierce but he has a soft spot for
the safety of his own and others.
Vladimir Putin s personality and his policies are all based off Hobbes and Locke. When describing
Putin s personality Hobbes was the better comparison point. But, when it comes to his policies, they
can be both represented by Hobbes and

Significance of Hajj to the Life Muslim Adherents
Analyse the significance of Hajj to the life Muslim adherents (15 marks)
The Hajj is one of the 5 pillars of Islam and ultimately reflects many core Muslim beliefs. Through
spiritual rebirth, the wearing of the Ihram garments, the acknowledgement of Allah s omnipotency and
the experience of following in Prophet Muhammad s footsteps, adherents through the Hajj are able to
reflect the Islamic beliefs of Jihad, Umma, Zakat, and forgiveness in their own lives. By this Muslims
are able to become more intimate with Allah and his will, and are also destined to an afterlife in
heaven by his side. Accordingly, those who do not complete the Hajj in their lifetime will be sentenced

These are very significant principles within Islam. Secondly, the use of the Ihram garments during the
Hajj also reflects core Islamic beliefs, particularly Umma. The white garments are worn by everyone
during the Hajj, resulting in it being impossible to differentiate a wealthy man from a poorer one, or a
sinful man from a cleaner one. This equality is synonymous with the idea of Umma, the unity of the
Islamic community as one religious body with similar views. Through the Hajj adherents learn to live
together and co operate in the name of Allah by also giving up certain mutual activities such as sex.
This unification and sacrifice further allows the adherent to become closer with Allah and also reflects
the Muslim way to live with one another especially during times like Ramadan, where certain actions
are haram. Furthermore, the following of Muhammad s steps as an integral part of the Hajj acts as a
guide for adherents to base their future lives upon. The Hajj traces around the Saudi Arabia region,
highlighting key components of the Prophet s life. This life is one that evidently reflects all core
Islamic values and teachings, and serves as the materialism of Allah s will on Earth. Prayer, such as
rak ah, Zakat, seen in the shaving of the head, and Jihad, present in the physical struggle required, are
all key values reflected in Muhammad s life, while Umma, given through the unity of the

Analysis of Robert Frost´s Poem Out, Out Essay

Nature is calm and serene, while this boy s life has changed in a matter of seconds from living to dead
in a tragic event. The end stopped lines and enjambments are used very well in the remainder of the
poem.
Frost s poem is interesting because he uses personification and repetition in describing the saw, the
saw is given life; it snarled and rattled . Frost talks about the saw as though it were a person when as it
ran light, or had to bear a load like the saw can feel the weight of its work. The narrator depicts the
scene as the saw and the boy interacting in a human way. As if to prove saws know what supper
meant, / Leaped out at the boy s hand, or seemed to leap
The boy and the saw connect during the boys excitement over dinner and Frost makes it seem as
though the saw was also excited leading to them both jumping. The saw is personified again as it is
said to have leaped to meet the hand and then cut it off. The following line continues the same way.
Neither refused the meeting. But the hand! The saw is brought to life and it becomes the antagonist in
the poem as it chops off the boy s hand and not once does Frost blame the boy in the accident. After
the hand is chopped off the saw is not mentioned again as the poem continues with the boy.
Frost has a compelling way of writing the poem, in the beginnings of the poem there is a lot of
metaphors and descriptions of the setting and the saw and the boy. Once the boy is injured

Waiting For Godot Literary Analysis
Literary texts such as short stories, poems, and dramatic texts are usually read for pleasure and
entertainment. They may be a haven for some who want to take a break from reality. When one reads,
he or she plunges into a new space, or a new world, created by the author s imagination. At the same
time, the reader is also seeing life and reality through the author s eyes. Literature reflects the human
life and condition in a way that it enables readers to relate with the characters and their situations. It
depicts how humans try to cling to life and search for its meaning and purpose. However, life is truly

Citizen Kane Film Analysis
Citizen Kane is a critically acclaimed movie that most critics rank as one of the best of all times. The
movie has an outstanding narrative structure. The first thing that is easy to identify is that the
difference between story and plot is clear. This movie is not told in chronological order which makes it
easy to identify the clear distinction between story and plot. The lack of chronological order is first
evident in the way the movie starts. It starts with the death of Kane instead of his birth. On the other
hand, some aspects of the movie are told in chronological order such as the investigation into the
meaning of Rosebud. This contrasts Kane s life which is told out of chronological order. The
investigations present the plot of the movie while the life of
Kane presents the story of the movie. This makes the movie great because it creates a unique
combination of plot and story that makes the movie unique and interesting.
Citizen Kane is also narrated through a series of setbacks. These flashbacks include
Thatcher s notebooks, Bernstein, Jeb Leland, Susan Alexander Kane and Raymond. Susan s interview
takes place earlier in the movie but he only gets to hear her story until the end. This interview takes
the form of a flashback. The use of flashbacks enriches the plot of a movie.
However, flashbacks must be prudently used to ensure that they do not end up confusing the viewer
and weakening the plot of the film. Another unique part of the narrative structure is that

  • 2. Religion Reflection Before taking American Religious Lives, I had previously taking Mystery and Meaning, that was my first encounter with religion. Essentially everything that we have learned in the class has been new to me because I do not have any prior experience with American religion, since my other Religious Studies class focused on Asian and Native American religions. Growing up I never went to church growing up, but I was baptized, but never understood what that meant. I do no think of myself who is involved or a part of any religion. The fact that I am unfamiliar makes the class very challenging for me, but it is also a good type of challenge because it makes me work harder to understand all the topics discussed in class and it makes me really have to think deeper about all the topics. Not being associated with any religion is also helpful because I can be an outsider and not have a biased opinion and not have to choose a side of the different religious perspectives. Religion seems like it is a very complex topic, where a lot of religions in America have different sects and each sect has a different background. I knew that Christianity was the most popular religion in America, but I did not know about all the different sects and that Christianity as a whole is the faith of over 70% of Americans and that most of the other 30% is made up of people who are unaffiliated with any religion. (Wormald, 1). Another topic that I found intriguing was that most of the immigrants that come to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Lack Of Psychical Activity The lack of psychical activity is another growing issue. Some people are quick to blame computers, television, and other sources as the driving forces behind childhood obesity. Food for thought: Who allows the child to sit in front of the computer or television for hours? Computers and televisions have become built in babysitters for some parents Television and the Internet may contribute to obesity rates a little; however, these are not the only factors that decide whether a child becomes obese. In fact, according to the WHO survey, parents are just as much at fault for making their children obese as outside influences are. Mothers tipped the scale with 91 percent of them being primary caregivers in the telephone survey, and were the ones responsible for the foods offered to, cooked for (and chosen by) the children. A parent allowing access to so many choices of unhealthy snacks convenient foods, and sitting in front of the television or Internet is only part of the problem. Medical care and nutritional education of the children is obviously the parents responsibility, but so many parents are careless about basic nutrition and the need for exercise. In addition, how many parents just don t have the gumption to battle with their preschoolers regarding what they eat? Some parents have the attitude that at least they are eating SOMETHING . We ve all been there, at our wit s end just trying to get a picky 2 year old toddler to eat some kind of fruit and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Impact Of Debussy s Influence On The Works Of Richard... In 1888, Debussy traveled to Bayreuth, hearing Parsifal and Meistersinger there, followed by Tristan the next year. His trips to Bayreuth mark the beginning of Debussy s intentional shift away from Wagner. Wagner s domination of the French musical society occurred gradually over a period of about forty years. Elaine Brody writes that in the 1840s the French regarded Wagner as a madman; by the 1880s they had placed him on a pedestal. Debussy himself was became swept up in the fervor of Wagnerism. While the Debussy heard Wagner s Tristan while in Rome, it was Parsifal that had the biggest impact on the French composer. But despite the overwhelming support for Wagner s music, Debussy returned from Bayreuth feeling that he needed to free himself from the German s influence; he wanted to to develop a style that was characteristically French and free of German influences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After returning from Rome, Debussy began frequenting bistros, literary cafes, and attended gatherings at Edmond Bailly s shop of rare books, where he read books exposing him to religious symbolism. Through his newly acquired connections, he was invited to attend Staphane Mallarmé s Tuesday evening salon. At these events, he participated in discussions of literature, art, music, and heard many works by Mallarmé and other Symbolists. Mallarmé s notion of of the arabesque is something that Debussy latched onto. Barbara Kelly described Debussy s concept of arabesque as an undulating melodic line, independent of any notion of development of themes...subject to varied repetition. • 5. The Story Of American Slavery For the story of American slavery to be complete, it has to include the ills of the system, the changes created in the aftermath of emancipation and the precipitous slide down into the sins of segregation. Many books about slavery and the brutality of the life that so many people had to endure have been written over the years. In this book, David Blight tells the story about two men, John M. Washington (1838 1918) and Wallace Turnage (1846 1916) and their escape from slavery during the Civil War. Their escape to freedom occurred during the chaos of this nation s most bloody war and amidst a political and cultural conflict, which had been ripping the country apart for many decades. Throughout the Civil War, in thousands of different circumstances, under changing policies and redefinitions of their status, and in the face of social chaos caused by huge military campaigns and destruction, four million slaves helped to decide what time it would be in American History (Blight, 2007, p. 5). Whether it was freedom from a master or overseer, freedom from living as both property and the object of another person s will, or even freedom to make their own decisions and control their own life, slaves wanted a sense of independence. According to Blight (2007), The war and the presence of Union armies and navies opened pathways to freedom for them, as it did many slaves (p. 6). Both Washington and Turnage found their path to freedom in their own unique way, and both accounts are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. John Proctor s Excessive Pride In The Crucible By Arthur... In The Crucible, both honor and excessive pride play a role in the portrayal of John Proctor throughout the play. Pride is an attribute that makes someone feel like he or she is worth something but when someone is excessively prideful, they are over confident and often conceited. Proctor s excessive pride caused him avoid telling the truth in the story told by Arthur Miller in The Crucible. Proctor was a proud man who seemed to set himself apart from the community of Salem, Massachusetts. No one could have seen him as prideful, as John was a religious man, or so everyone thought. His pride caused him to cover who he really was a man who struggled with sin. Elizabeth Proctor, his wife, wanted him to admit his sins and put an end to Abigail Williams scheme that had brought about a witch hunt but John Proctor does not come clean until Elizabeth is among those accused and he feels guilt over his previous relationship with Abigail, the accuser. John Proctor s pride put him into a painful situation that could have been avoided if he had been honest from the beginning. If he had told the truth about Abigail before the accusations of witchcraft began, he may have saved the lives of many innocent people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He could not see that he needed to be honest about Abigail s accusations of witchcraft that continued to grow. • 7. Analysis Of Jonathan Kozol s The Mechanics Of The Book I. Analysis of the mechanics of the book. In today s society, there are issues that are more important than another. There may be some disagreements on which issue is more important than the rest. Which leads to the most important topic in life, education. At a young age, we are enrolled in school from kindergarten to senior year of high school. When you hit high school you are preparing for your future; attending college, joining the work force, the military, etc. However, one thing seems to go unnoticed, this is the notion that a young ones career as a student is simply molded when they are in their elementary years. This now leads to the topic of this essay; Jonathan Kozol s book and his research on students from the inner city. It appears that Jonathan Kozol took the organization of his book very seriously. In fact, I believe that his book was organized very well. When it comes to the type of organization used, deciding which was used is ultimately up to the reader. Personally, I believe that Kozol used topical organization. The reason being is that each chapter had a different topic with an underlying message. Although at points it may have seemed that he was listing everything in chronological order, Kozol stuck with the examples that were relevant to the theme of that individual chapter. If Kozol were to use another form of organization, chronological perhaps, his book would not be much different. I feel that is he were to use this form, his powerful ... • 12. The Pros And Cons Of Absolutism Absolutism, a form of government where the rulers word is law. All aspects are decided by the one in charge and his word is absolute. In this form of government the ruler will typically have trusted advisers but besides simple recommendations they have no real power. An absolute government has all aspects such as religion, political standing and economy decided by its ruler. In 1961 thomas hobbes wrote that the passions that incline men to peace are the fear of death. When a man wants something he can fight and take a chance to get it. Most men fear that chance as they may die and lose everything, but the thought of coming out on top is enough to encourage these actions in individuals. These individuals can incite others who would have normally turned down the challenge. In a case when the odds are not in favor of those goals set by an individual leading others one must not hesitate with what must be done. Hobbes understood that if there was no concise ruler that there was a sort of stutter when doing things taking action required to go through the proper channels. When 10 men are in control they must all agree but when only one man is in control all that must be done is let them decide entirely. When Bossuet talks about power he states that it must be employed with fear and self restraint as it is a blessing bestowed upon the ruler by god. Bossuet says that the throne is not for man but a place for man to speak the will of god. Unlike in absolutism Bosset says that these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Scott Francis, in the article Taking the Easy Way Out Instead of Doing the Hard Work , he states, It s tempting to take shortcuts or the path of least resistance. But beyond being lazy, it can also seriously undermine your recruiting goals and your reputation. Francis shows that taking the easy way can result in serious trouble. Later in life people will stop working, trying to find the easy way out. The problem with this is there isn t always an easy way out. In Mark Twain s novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom tricks people into whitewashing for him by making the job special and hard to do. Tom tells people that it has to be done in a very certain way so other people will find it interesting. After Tom operates his method he goes away and plays with toys. If Tom will never work he will become lazy and immature. In my life, these experiences have happened. When I was younger I would try to make it so that counting numbers was fun. Inspector Goole creates a massive presence within An Inspector Calls and through him we are able to explore each character and Priestly himself. The Inspector is a vital character within the play and allows Priestly to channel through his thoughts, feelings and messages to society by creating the seemingly omniscient Inspector Goole. In the essay I will illustrate the importance of the Inspector and demonstrate how Priestly presents him. Priestly uses a dramatic device of lighting change pink and intimate to brighter and harder to really show how the Inspector is different to the others and this in turn reflects his harsh personality and how the atmosphere changes so much when he s around relating to his other world presence. Mrs Birling is a character that is affected by the Inspector in a superficial way: she s more bothered about what other people will think about her being involved than how she actually helped kill a poor woman. We see the two contrasts of how Sheila reacts and how Mrs Birling reacts which is effective as Priestly is able to demonstrate that the Inspector is like a conscience of the family; like in the real world some people are able to ignore their conscience and not feel bad whereas some people really feel their guilt when they have done something wrong. This therefore is why the Inspector is so important in the play, and in his last speech he makes reference to the World War 1 and 2 and how people had still not learnt their lesson (used dramatic irony but applies it to the Birling s situation) and sets it straight to them that if they have ... Oskar, who is an eleven year old autistic boy, lost his father in the September 11th attacks. His father would always send him on quests to find something new. His father did this to encourage Oskar to work on his social skills and become better at dealing with situations. After his father s death, Oskar no longer had any quests. One of the earliest examples of kiko is Ki no Tsurayuki s Tosa nikki, a diary which Tsurayuki wrote most likely in 935 during the Heian period of Japan. Another important example of kiko, which is similar in ways yet also very dissimilar to Ki no Tsurayuki s Tosa nikki, due in part to the many years that the two are separated by in terms of when they were composed, is Matsuo Basho s Oku no hosomichi, or Narrow Road to the Interior/Narrow Road to the Deep North, which was written in the late 17th century during the Edo period of Japan. Those who steer a boat across a sea, or drive a horse over the earth till they succumb to the weight of years, spend every minute of their lives traveling. There are a great number of ancients, too, who died on the road. I myself have been tempted for a long time by the cloud moving wind filled with a strong desire to wander. While Ki no Tsurayuki was returning to the capital due to his urge to go home and perhaps even more so because of his position as a court official, Matsuo Basho was journeying from his own personal desire to do so, as a Zen monk as well as from his desires as a poet to see the wild north of Japan and the places that many famous poets from before him had been to. This mood of Basho in Oku no hosomichi works against the sort of traditional poetic essence of travel as seen in the Tosa nikki: to have a longing for the capital. In Oku no hosomichi, the road becomes home establishing a new view on traveling: that one has no center and no return. Basho literally makes the road his home, for he sells his house in Edo before going on his long journey, and gives up most of his earthly possessions. During the Tosa nikki, the mood of Tsurayuki is often melancholy whereas in Oku no hosomichi there is some suffering, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lab Report On Osmosis The Osmosis and Diffusion lab was conducted to provide us with information on how built up mucus affects those conflicted by the recessive genetic disease, Cystic Fibrosis., due to a mutation to the membrane regulating chloride (Cl ). This mutation prevents the Cl from leaving the cell causing the amount of sodium (Na+) in epithelial cells, which results in extreme mucus on the lungs and airways causing this disease to be fatal if not treated but treatment does not equate to a long lifetime. During the lab we took the data from three parts: Diffusion, Osmosis in an Elodea Cell, and finally the Role of Osmosis in Cystic Fibrosis. During Part 1 we looked at diffusion across a semipermeable membrane for starch and glucose, which resulted in both having a negative solution when placed in a semipermeable membrane. Then we looked at osmosis in the Elodea Cell to watch for the occurrence of Plasmolysis, when a cell s plasma membrane pulls away from the cell, and how a plant cell is affected by both hypertonic and hypotonic solutions. Finally, we observed the role of Osmosis in Cystic Fibrosis using dialysis bags to represent a normal cell and a Cystic Fibrosis cell with the normal containing 1% NaCl while the Cystic Fibrosis bag contained 10% NaCl. After we ran the experiment, we looked at the Percent Change in Mass and compared them after 30 minutes. Firstly, communication is the most important factor that affects the relationship between managers and employees. If the managers could listen advices of the work in time from their employees, it not only will be more easier to handle the existing problem in the company, but also will improve the relationship between managers and employees because the staff feel the company takes, to respect and to trust them, feel oneself is in enterprise s one, and they can have the confidence and the sense of responsibility for the development of their company. To deal with this issue and targets occlusion, the camera parameters are calculated and targets were also tracked within the 3D coordinates [W. Choi] at the same time. To be specific, it is aimed 1) to solve the multi object tracking issue by using a single non calibrated camera, [W. Choi] 2). to deal with complicated scenes in which multiple pedestrians are moving and occluding each other [W. Choi] at the same time, 3). to calculate the 2D/3D trajectories within the camera reference system [W. Choi]. The important task in this project was to calculate camera parameters (such as camera pose and focal length of a camera) and track objects such as pedestrians as they move in the scene [W. Choi]. Tracks are helpful in calculating the parameters of a camera by using their velocity and scale within the image plane; simultaneously, camera parameters can help to follow objects very robustly as previous important information is available. This enables to calculate object 3D trajectories in the reference system of a camera. The author used a simplified camera model which allows finding a powerful compact relationship between the variables such as camera parameters and target, with the help of projection constraints of a camera. When Putin came to be president he was a faced with a serious issue that was previously left for him, he had to solve the Ukraine conflict. The power of the Society, or legislative, constituted by them, can never be supposed to extend farther that the common good. (Locke) This shows that Putin did this to better the good of his people, while doing so he also made his country even safer than it was originally. Solving the Ukraine conflict allowed people within and around that area to feel safer. Instead of being neutral in the situation like other countries, he got involved. Putin may appear fierce but he has a soft spot for the safety of his own and others. Vladimir Putin s personality and his policies are all based off Hobbes and Locke. When describing Putin s personality Hobbes was the better comparison point. But, when it comes to his policies, they can be both represented by Hobbes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Soon, the pain was unbearable, and my teachers had to drag me into the atrium so my screams would not disrupt the other students. But I insisted to my teachers that my teeth hurt. Even at three and a half years old, I had been admitted to the hospital several times. I did everything in my power to avoid returning there. Of course, my teachers realized what was going on and called my parents. My medical problems have not gone away, but I have realized that as much as I hate living with pain, I don t know if I can live without medicine. These babies suffer from pancreatitis and chronic abdominal pain, and undergo countless procedures, tests, and surgeries. But nobody hears about patients like this because of what in the medical world is called failure to thrive. These patients spend so much time in hospitals that they become disconnected from life outside the hospital, quit activities because of pain, and fall behind in schoolwork. Many become addicted to pain medications. The fact that I am able to thrive at school is in itself rare. But that I still have a drive to make a difference in the world is unheard of. Significance of Hajj to the Life Muslim Adherents Analyse the significance of Hajj to the life Muslim adherents (15 marks) The Hajj is one of the 5 pillars of Islam and ultimately reflects many core Muslim beliefs. Through spiritual rebirth, the wearing of the Ihram garments, the acknowledgement of Allah s omnipotency and the experience of following in Prophet Muhammad s footsteps, adherents through the Hajj are able to reflect the Islamic beliefs of Jihad, Umma, Zakat, and forgiveness in their own lives. By this Muslims are able to become more intimate with Allah and his will, and are also destined to an afterlife in heaven by his side. Accordingly, those who do not complete the Hajj in their lifetime will be sentenced to an afterlife in purgatory. These consequences reflect how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are very significant principles within Islam. Secondly, the use of the Ihram garments during the Hajj also reflects core Islamic beliefs, particularly Umma. The white garments are worn by everyone during the Hajj, resulting in it being impossible to differentiate a wealthy man from a poorer one, or a sinful man from a cleaner one. This equality is synonymous with the idea of Umma, the unity of the Islamic community as one religious body with similar views. Through the Hajj adherents learn to live together and co operate in the name of Allah by also giving up certain mutual activities such as sex. This unification and sacrifice further allows the adherent to become closer with Allah and also reflects the Muslim way to live with one another especially during times like Ramadan, where certain actions are haram. Furthermore, the following of Muhammad s steps as an integral part of the Hajj acts as a guide for adherents to base their future lives upon. The Hajj traces around the Saudi Arabia region, highlighting key components of the Prophet s life. This life is one that evidently reflects all core Islamic values and teachings, and serves as the materialism of Allah s will on Earth. Prayer, such as rak ah, Zakat, seen in the shaving of the head, and Jihad, present in the physical struggle required, are all key values reflected in Muhammad s life, while Umma, given through the unity of the ... Frost uses a lot of end stopped lines and enjambment in the lines of his poem. Both have an effect on the way the poem is read by the readers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nature is calm and serene, while this boy s life has changed in a matter of seconds from living to dead in a tragic event. The end stopped lines and enjambments are used very well in the remainder of the poem. Frost s poem is interesting because he uses personification and repetition in describing the saw, the saw is given life; it snarled and rattled . Frost talks about the saw as though it were a person when as it ran light, or had to bear a load like the saw can feel the weight of its work. The narrator depicts the scene as the saw and the boy interacting in a human way. As if to prove saws know what supper meant, / Leaped out at the boy s hand, or seemed to leap The boy and the saw connect during the boys excitement over dinner and Frost makes it seem as though the saw was also excited leading to them both jumping. The saw is personified again as it is said to have leaped to meet the hand and then cut it off. The following line continues the same way. Neither refused the meeting. But the hand! The saw is brought to life and it becomes the antagonist in the poem as it chops off the boy s hand and not once does Frost blame the boy in the accident. After the hand is chopped off the saw is not mentioned again as the poem continues with the boy. Frost has a compelling way of writing the poem, in the beginnings of the poem there is a lot of metaphors and descriptions of the setting and the saw and the boy. Once the boy is injured ... They may be a haven for some who want to take a break from reality. When one reads, he or she plunges into a new space, or a new world, created by the author s imagination. At the same time, the reader is also seeing life and reality through the author s eyes. Literature reflects the human life and condition in a way that it enables readers to relate with the characters and their situations. It depicts how humans try to cling to life and search for its meaning and purpose. However, life is truly meaningless and humans just create the illusion of desire to justify their own existence. Man just makes up the desire, the Godot, the illusion that life has meaning that he gives himself to justify his own existence in this world. He continuously waits for Godot, even though he is not certain if he will ever come. While they wait, they get distractions in Pozzo and Lucky, which makes them believe that something is actually happening. Like in a man s life, he has distractions while waiting for his desire to arrive. And because he feels that something is happening, he is led to believe that life is not nothing after all and that he is heading somewhere because something is happening. Throughout the play, Estragon repeatedly tells Vladimir that they should leave and abandon the wait, but Vladimir would always remind him that they cannot go and that We re waiting for Godot. • 41. Citizen Kane Film Analysis Citizen Kane is a critically acclaimed movie that most critics rank as one of the best of all times. The movie has an outstanding narrative structure. The first thing that is easy to identify is that the difference between story and plot is clear. This movie is not told in chronological order which makes it easy to identify the clear distinction between story and plot. The lack of chronological order is first evident in the way the movie starts. It starts with the death of Kane instead of his birth. On the other hand, some aspects of the movie are told in chronological order such as the investigation into the meaning of Rosebud. This contrasts Kane s life which is told out of chronological order. The investigations present the plot of the movie while the life of Kane presents the story of the movie. This makes the movie great because it creates a unique combination of plot and story that makes the movie unique and interesting. Citizen Kane is also narrated through a series of setbacks. These flashbacks include Thatcher s notebooks, Bernstein, Jeb Leland, Susan Alexander Kane and Raymond. Susan s interview takes place earlier in the movie but he only gets to hear her story until the end. This interview takes the form of a flashback. The use of flashbacks enriches the plot of a movie. However, flashbacks must be prudently used to ensure that they do not end up confusing the viewer and weakening the plot of the film. Another unique part of the narrative structure is that the ...
