Wearable Wearability Research Paper
Although physiological signals, such as an increase in temperature and blood pressure, are not
traditionally considered an input channel within computer science, computers are gradually moving
beyond the desktop and reaching closer contact with our bodies. An affective wearable a wearable
computer equipped with physiological sensors and pattern recognition is designed to perceive and
respond to the wearer s affective state. Affective states are determined by certain patterns; one pattern
would be a change in nervous system activity, such as an increase in heart rate. While most wearables
today are designed as bands around our wrists, these miniature flexible electrodes can be attached to
jewelry or sewn into our clothes. Indeed, people are already in physical contact with many things that
could be augmented with sensors (Picard).

Montessori Class Reflection
These two past weeks we have been doing a lot of lecture series in class, which I enjoy a lot, I feel like
I learn better when having a power point presentation to see, read, and listened to, instead of just
talking about something or reading it. This past week we also had our first paper due, our thoughts and
beliefs paper which we had time to talk about what we wrote about with a partner. I thought this was a
very insightful way to see how other people interpreted the same assignment, and even though we
both answered the questions we may have answered them in a different way or a different perspective.
So far in class we have gone over some general theories of play, some of which I had already learned
about in my developmental psych class, but others that I had not really hear of before. One of the
surprising things I learned was about was the Montessori schools. Up until this class I had a negative
connotation towards Montessori schools because one of my friends went there for kindergarten
through fourth grade and she felt like they didn t properly prepare her for public schooling. She was
behind in most of her classes, and didn t feel like she could easily catch up. But after learning that the
Montessori schools teach independence to children I realize how she has often acted more mature and
independent from people her own age. Although she was not top of her class she was able to catch up
and graduate high school with all the kids she started 5th grade public school

Corporate Branding And Consumer Opinion
Corporate branding and consumer opinion Corporations need to sell their product if they want to
survive in the business industry. Consumers are aware of what they desire, dislike, and for the most
part make their choices accordingly. For those that cannot decide as easily, there are many choices of
different brands of the same product sold by different companies. When a corporation puts their label
or name on the product, it is called branding (Klein 778). That is the way of consumerism and a way
to make a product more tantalizing, is to think of extraordinary marketing concepts. This essay will
discuss corporate brands and the effect on consumers, then, the paper will examine the concept of
Neuromarketing. Corporations are not forcing anyone to use their product, but they are trying to
capitalize and make themselves a household name. There is an expression, keeping up with the Jones
or nowadays the Kardashians, and what that means is, the assumption would be that someone is
attempting to obtain the same type of lifestyle or the same objects as someone else. Celebrities pay
substantial amounts of money for fashion and designer product and many of them participate in
campaign ads promoting different products. Celebrities make us think that if we purchase these items,
we could be like the rich and famous. Often corporations make you think that if you buy their
products, you can do and be better at life in general. For instance; the popular sports drink Gatorade

Earth And The Solar System
Each and every planet, moon, and rock in our solar system is different in many different ways.
Surprisingly a lot of the known knowledge about our planets comes from guessing. Well not just
random guessing smart guessing. Studying Earth can tell us a lot about other planets and what they are
made of. Let s start at the core of planets, literally. Terrestrial planets like Earth and Mars have cores
made of Iron. While the Jovian planets like Saturn and Jupiter have rocky cores. Scientists have
multiple ways to probe the interiors of planets. The cores of each planet are a mixture of both solid
and/or liquid. Planets spin just like a top, they wobble. The wobble in a planet is called precession. If a
planet twists as it wobbles chances are it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you fly a spacecraft near a planet you can measure how it is affected by the gravity. When the
spacecraft flies closer to a planet it becomes more affected by the inner layers of the planets interior.
Chemical fractionation is the process early in the formation of a planet that influences its structure of
its interior is gravity. Gravity causes heavier elements to sink to the core of a planet. The thickness of
a planet s crust is directly proportional to the rate at which the planet cooled in the past. Smaller
planets cool faster. The cooling rate is proportional to the total mass of the planet. Large planets cool
slower and have thinner crusts. High cooling rates also determine the interior structure. Slower
cooling rates implies that planets still have warm interiors now. Warmer interiors imply more a
diversified structure. This is why mars is red, since it is smaller it cooled faster and elements like iron
stayed on the surface before sinking toward the core, which is why it also doesn t have a strong
magnetic field like
Earth. It is also worth noting that a thicker crust means less tectonic activity.
The best way to determine a terrestrial planets interior is by using seismology. A device called a
seismometer measures sheers from Earth quakes, or Moon/Mars quakes. When a planet quakes it
sends waves rippling through the planets interior, the denser the layer the shorter the wavelength. Of

The Role of Genes in the Development of Behavior Essay
The Role of Genes in the Development of Behavior The debate concerning the influence of genes on
human behavior has been on going for centuries. The nature vs. nurture (or heredity Vs. environment)
debates are one of the longest running, and most controversial, both inside and outside psychology. It
is concerned with some of the most fundamental questions a human being could ask, such as Why are
we they way we are? and why do we develop as we do? Historically this debate has been fought from
extreme perspectives, arguing that it is either nature (an individuals heredity genetic make up), or
nurture (the environmental influences upon an individual) that determine a person s behavior.
However in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With philosophical thinkers such as the John Locke, who believed that at birth the human mind is
tabula rasa, a blank slate that is gradually filled with experience. On the other hand, the French
philosopher Rene Descartes, was a seventeenth century nativist who believed that knowledge of the
world was largely innate or inborn and that nature (heredity) determined certain abilities and
capacities. Popular in the eighteenth century was the philosophy of Jean Jacques Rousseau who
claimed that children should be free to develop as nature dictates. However towards the beginning of
the nineteenth century the heredity thesis was more dominant but then again the dominant opinion
swung to the environmental perspective by the middle of the century. The Canadian psychologist, D.
O. Hebb in 1949[1] argued that there was too much misunderstanding on the subject because two
separate facts had not been recognised. Firstly, that because we have the biological ability to form cell
assemblies that allow us to store memories and solve problems, we therefore have the innate ability to
form cell assemblies. However the second fact is that although we have this ability, we may not
necessarily be able to do so to the fullest extent, depending on the environment that may either help or
hinder

Palestinian Israeli Conflict from the Perspective of Palestinian Filmmaker The Palestinian movie
industry has significantly grown in the resent past despite the challenge they face with majority of the
movies coming from different sources of film production. There lack adequate equipments that are
used to produce the movies, and this poses a great challenge to the industry. Lack of funds to finance
the movie production, further, poses a greater challenge in the industry. The various Palestinian movie

Furthermore, some Palestinian films portray new sociologists and historians modern when contrasted
in various Palestinian movies. For example, the film The House portrays the Arabs as technicians and
portray the Israelites as violent and sadists. The movie shows the way Israeli used their superiority to
violently conquer Palestine. That was after being allowed a land to settle in Palestine. The Palestinian
movie of 1980 s is seen to have instances of violence which are similar with the ones found in the
movies of 1970 s. The aspects common in the movies in the two decades include financial and
political instability, the need to recognize and equip the filmmakers in the cultural sector. Israeli
Palestinian conflict is viewed in varied perspectives by both the filmmakers from the Arab countries
and also the entire entertainment industry. Using movies to represent various challenges and
differences provides insight, interpretations and also exposure to reality to the observers. That is a
major approach that the Arab movie makers and other filmmakers use in their attempts to solve the
conflict between Israeli and Palestine. Many filmmakers have produced films that focuses on the issue
between the two countries and that helps in understanding the concepts presented. For example,

Comparing the Loss of Innocence in Cullen s Incident and...
Loss of Innocence in Cullen s Incident and Naylor s Mommy, What Does Nigger Mean?
Unfortunately, a question that many African Americans have to ask in childhood is Mommy, what
does nigger mean?, and the answer to this question depicts the racism that still thrives in America
(345). Both Gloria Naylor s Mommy, What Does Nigger Mean? and Countee Cullen s Incident
demonstrate how a word like nigger destroys a child s innocence and initiates the child into a world of
racism. Though the situations provoking the racial slur differ, the word nigger has the same effect on
the young Naylor and the child in Cullen s poem. A racist society devours the white children s
innocence, and, consequently, the white children embody ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Naylor, Cullen never identifies the sex of the black child in his poem. Perhaps Cullen renders
the child in his poem genderless to give the child a more universal standing; perhaps he leaves the
child genderless in order to focus on the more important fact that the child, whether male or female,
sees no difference between him or herself and the other boy until the Baltimorean boy calls him/her
nigger (3).
Both Cullen and Naylor add color to the description of the children with this single racial epithet. The
white children s use of the word nigger establishes a distinction between them and the black children
in Naylor and Cullen s works which embodies the essence of racism. This distinction forces the young
Naylor and the child in Cullen s poem to see beyond their innocence and to see themselves and their
world in new colors: black and white. Both Naylor and Cullen touch on an important issue by noting
that the first incident of racism for the black children, occurring when the white children call them
nigger, takes place between two children. The fact that the white boys call the young Naylor and the
child in Cullen s poem nigger at such a young age reflects the unfortunate truth that America teaches
color boundaries and racism at a young age. The word nigger does not exist in white children s
vocabulary at birth. Rather, their parents and community teach them the word and pass down the
legacy of racism as if it is an

Similarities Between 70 And 70
The 70 s v. 2017 Life in the 70 s was very different than it is today. When you compare the 1970s to
2017 you can see the huge differences, and maybe some similarities. A lot has changed since the 70 s,
including the style, lifestyle, pop culture, and more. Since the 70 s a lot has changed, we have changed
in some ways and are similar in more ways than one. Here are the differences and similarities between
the 70 s and today, 2017. In the 70 s the first president of the decade was Richard Nixon, he was the
37th president and was in office 1969 1974. Eventually Gerald Ford held office after Nixon resigned
to avoid the eventual outcome of Watergate, which would have led to impeachment. Jimmy Carter
then served as president in years 1977 1981, with Walter Mondale as vice president. Today in 2017 we
have Donald Trump and Mike Pence, and people are begging for Trump to be impeached, similar to
Nixon. Though people do see impeachment in Trump s future, but some do not. Another difference
since the 70 s is the inflation of the dollar. A dollar in 1970 is worth $6.30 today, which is a 530.0%
increase. A dollar in 1979 is worth $3.37, which is a 237% increase. When comparing the 70 s to
today it is always best to compare the cost of living. In 1970 minimum wage was $1.60, today in New
Mexico minimum wage is now $9.25. A year of tuition at a public college was about $1,200 in the 70
s, according to the college board, the average student payed about $9,650 for tuition. In January of

Gogol Ganguli Quotes
For my parents generation, the idea was not that marriage was about some kind of idealized, romantic
love; it was a partnership. It s about creating family; it s about creating offspring. Aasif Mandvi. This
quote is an example of how Gogol Ganguli couldn t accept his parent s traditions and wanted to follow
his own ways. Gogol never accepted his past and it led to him not being happy with himself. As he
grew up he was introduced to the American ways and seemed to quickly embrace them. Although, on
the inside he was split into two different people. Gogol never attained true happiness because of his
ability to not fully accept his Indian culture. It s a struggle that is displayed through his whole life.

He is afraid to be Nikhil, someone he doesn t know. Who doesn t know him. (57). His parents make
him take the name of Nikhil as his good name, a name in the Indian culture that is used for
identification in the outside world (26). In his earlier years he has trouble with his name because he
thinks he doesn t need a good name. He just wants to be Gogol. It is as Nikhil that he loses his
virginity at a party at Ezra Stiles, with a girl wearing a plaid woolen skirt and combat boots and
mustard tights (105). Later in his life he starts to use his good name, Nikhil, and it seems he becomes a
new person and enjoys life. The truth is Gogol isn t enjoying life, Nikhil is. Without people in the
world to call him Gogol, no matter how long he himself lives, Gogol Ganguli will, once and for all,
vanish from the lips of loved ones, and so, cease to exist. Yet the thought of this eventual demise
provides no sense of victory, no solace. It provides no solace at all (289). After the divorce of his wife
and the death of his dad, he learns the importance of his name. This is a battle all his life. His name
makes him who he is and he never understood so he was never truly happy. His name didn t allow him
to be happy because he accept himself as

The Selfish Gene Sparknotes
The Selfish Gene
The Selfish Gene is a novel written by Richard Dawkins where he explains his theory on the Selfish
Gene. The Selfish Gene is commonly misinterpreted and Dawkins uses this novel as his attempt to
clarify his thoughts on the Selfish Gene. The main themes presented in the book are Concepts of
altruistic and selfish behavior, Genetic definition of self interest, Evolution of aggressive behavior,
Kinship theory, Sex Ratio theory, Reciprocal altruism, Deceit and Natural selection of sex differences.
Many people question and or disagree with Dawkins views on the selfish gene but his ideas on the
subject are logical.
In the opening first chapter Dawkins carefully explains that the book is not is not a framework for
morality or a set of behavioral guidelines. What Dawkins argues, is that all animals are machines
created by our genes. Since it was possible for our genes to have survived over thousands of years we
expect certain qualities from them. The predominant quality, Dawkins believed, to be selfish. He then
goes on to explain that even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

calls into consideration reproduction, whereas child caring calls into consideration if the individual is
worth caring for. Animals have a fixed number of offspring it can produce in its lifetime and a fixed
litter size and have the ability to regulate their birth rates. Dawkins poses the question in this chapter is
birth control altruistic or selfish? Altruistic as a practice for the good of the group; or selfish, for the
good of the individual reproducing? Dawkins tackles both theories, considers the cost and benefits of
bearing and caring, but ultimately the answer is a mix of both theories, animals optimize their birth
rates rather than restrict them for public

Creation of Ontology Model and XML/RDF file storage
Given the advantages of using RDF (Lassila and Swick, 1999), (Susmitha and Thammi Reddy, 2011).
According to Zhou (Zhou et al., 2010), there are three kinds of RDF data storage formats, one is XML

relational database. If small amounts of data is considered then it is preferable to go with XML/RDF

Racism And The American Civil War
The illusion that Racism is the same creates disturbing comments when discussing current events.
Racism is defined as someone who believes their race is the superior race. The current events with the
confederate flags has brought about conversation that these people are racist. This term is correct but
misused when discussing the context for the choice of words. Society believes these individuals are
racist because displaying the flag is assumed to display hatred. These people who proudly display the
confederate flag are racist because they believe the white race is the supreme race. There is nothing
wrong with that idea and they have that right to that opinion. Our government is built on the principle
of freedom of speech and we can t apply this natural right to a one way street.
It was that in 1860 to 1865 that the American Civil War widely known as the civil war took place, to
determine survival of the union or independence of the confederacy. Among the 34 states, seven
southern states South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas that the
secession formed the United States confederacy, mostly known as the south . The south grew upon to
include eleven states, although they claimed 13 Missouri and Kentucky that weren t diplomatically
recognized. However during this time period and all the conspiracy, of the confederate battle flag
known as the southern cross came to the surface of what the civil war was all about, and was it

The Messiah as Corruptor in Frank Herbert’s Dune Essay
The Messiah as Corruptor in Frank Herbert s Dune
Frank Herbert s Dune is arguably one of the best science fiction novels ever written. A milestone of
the genre, the work incorporates an intricate plot with a unique setting and memorable characters.
Dune is rich with thematic material, touching on such varied issues as ecology, economics, religion,
and politics; ultimately, it is a novel about control, the consequences of power, and human nature. Any
reading of Dune and its sequels inevitably arrives at an analysis of Paul, who begins the novel as the

Paul s character is the subject of continued debate among scholars of science fiction. In
The Prince on Arrakis, Kevin Mulachy argues that Herbert s contrast of Paul and his adversaries is
meant to provide an examination and refutation of Machiavellian political strategies. The Messiah and
the Greens, by Susan Stratton, concludes that Dune is a novel expressing ecological concerns
surfacing during the time of its inception; Paul is meant to offer a solution to the environmental
problems of Arrakis. Paul Kucera s Jungian reading of Dune, presented in Listening to Ourselves
suggests that the novel is an analysis of absolute symbolism, in which Paul is a representation of
culturally unifying power. Comparisons can be drawn between Paul and ideas presented by Plato in
The Republic; his character resonates strongly with both the philosopher king ideal and the
puppetmasters of the Allegory of the
Cave. The discussion between these different perspectives arises in several areas: Mulachy and
Stratton present their opinions on how the setting of Dune affects Paul s actions. As both argue that the
setting is important to Paul s rise to power, the discussion then turns to a debate on the protagonist s
sources of power and how his role as

The initial years as a car driver are important for building up the driving experience necessary to

Character Of My Last Duchess
The situation seems ludicrous to the reader, because smiling at people does not seem a good enough
reason to be killed. This is a clear indication to the reader that the narrator is mad, and thus unreliable.
The portrayal of the duchess in the duke s words is also an important part of the poem, but the main
goal of My Last Duchess is the exploration of the mind of the speaker. The description of the duchess
makes clear that the duke is obviously not in his right mind. He does not gain any self knowledge by
the end of the poem: he blames others for their mistakes to disguise his own. The duke avoids self
examination and refuses to look at his faults, or even admit that he has faults. The painting of the
duchess portrays her as a sweet and innocent young woman, which contrasts with the personality of
her husband. The duke likes to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It turns the duchess into an object; she becomes something which he can dominate completely and
which will not embarrass or upset him. His life is care free with only the painting in his life, but still
he needs a wife. The duke seeks happiness in the ideal marriage, but it does not go as planned.
What Browning is doing in My Last Duchess is making a case for an immoral position. The dramatic
monologue is the perfect instrument for this, because of the tension between sympathy and moral
judgment. Those immoral positions are an act of free will of the characters. The fact that there is a
split between moral judgment and sympathy allows the reader to read the poem from the point of view
of the speaker, and even sympathies with him or her, but the reader does not have to adopt that point
of view or to agree with it.
So one could conclude that the duke is a character the reader prefers to identify him or herself with,
because he is such a refined, powerful man, even though he is not that refined

African Americans In Meridian Speech Analysis
blacks were contemplating the great migration, they were questioning their leaders, doubting if they
were truly down for the cause like in Meridian. In the speech Washington mentioned farming on the

something better. Like Meridians father did but Washington was saying we need to keep those lands
and build our own crops from them. In Meridian there is a part when white girls come to assist with

Evaluation Of A Microcontroller Based Three Phase...
Career Episode 1
Introduction
This career episode is the creation of my thesis during my final year in engineering. The project is
called Microcontroller Based Three Phase Induction Motor Controls . This is a partial fulfillment for
my bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering at Mindanao University of Science and Technology.
This project commenced on June 2011 and ended on March 2012. I was under the supervision of Engr.
Reuel C. Pallugna, one of the instructors in the Electrical Engineering department.
Background
CE 1.1 My main objective was to create a speed and forward reverse control for an induction motor
that can be programmed and can be accessed using the computer in the cheapest but efficient way. My
project is composed of electrical and electronic components. The brain of the prototype comes from
the program of a microcontroller. Most of the assembly of the electrical and electronic components
and the creation of the program are done in the electrical laboratory. Economy is an important factor
in my study. One of its advantages over the commercially available variable frequency drive (VFD) is
it is more economical and can be programmed based on the user s preference without sacrificing
accuracy and efficiency. CE 1.2 It took me 9 months to complete my prototype. Every month, my
thesis adviser checked and tracked the progress of my project. I did the research and the creation of
my prototype during weekdays and I did the technical writing of my thesis during

Merchant Of Venice Quotes
Merchant of Venice
Zackyia
Shakespeare s plays are an important part of history. They re spectacular tales, they proposed phrases
that we still use today, and they re a huge part of our culture. All of Shakespeare s plays are full of so
many well written quotes that can be expanded on in so many ways. One of these plays is The
Merchant of Venice, despite being filled with tons of wonderful quotes there s one in particular that
caught my eye.
In one of the scenes there s the character Jessica who s dressed up as a boy. She is embarrassed by her
apparel but she says But love is blind, and lovers cannot see The pretty follies themselves commit.
This quote represents that she is confident that her lover Lorenzo still loves her despite of her
appearance. In this scene Jessica has also just stole money and jewelry from her father Shylock. The
thievery and the fact she s dressed up as a boy may refer to The pretty follies she mentions.
Love is blind is a phrase that is still frequently used today, it is a wonderful example of a metaphor
and personification. Love is a concept not a person so that s where the personification comes in. It s a
metaphor because it figuratively compares love to being blind. When Jessica states that ... Show more

strong he s willing get money from Shylock the Jew of whom he despised. He also was willing to
form a bond with Shylock which resulted in Antonio almost getting a pound of his flesh removed.
Another example of blind love in this play is Launcelot and his father Old Gobbo. Old Gobbo was
literally a blind man who was going to give a gift to Launcelot s (past) master Shylock. This was to
show his appreciation for Shylock taking care of his son. Even though Launcelot played pranks on his
father and didn t show any gratitude, Old Gobbo was still acting out on fatherly

Male Nurses Vs Female Nursing Research
I believe that female nurses are better then male nurses. They have more time and dedication to their
patients and their work. Also they show more emotion to their work to be able to find what will work
the best and what will need to be done. They are determined to find an outcome or a solution to your
situation. Some often want to bring help to those who are in need of it and to bring change to the
world. I will start off with my first example who is Mary Breckinridge and how she had wanted to
bring more help to the poor families. Next would be Ruth Tapp she showed me and proved to me that
if you put time and effort into things that you will have a good outcome. The last example that I have
is Clarissa (Clara) Barton. She was so indulged in her work that she came up with the red cross
because she wanted to help everyone that needed it. As a matter of fact Mary Breckinridge would be a
good example of someone who is inspired to being a nurse. She had dedicated her life to becoming a

you say and be able to help solve your issue or would you want someone that doesn t listen and doesn

just wants to find a solution so you could leave? Would you rather have someone who listens to
everything you say and finds the best solution that you are comfortable with or do you want someone

Cultural Relations Are Historically Filled With Conflict
Intra cultural relations are historically filled with conflict; and to deal with this conflict: Gloria
Anzaldua s concepts of opposing cultures and language barriers, John Locke s Equality theory, and
Kwame Anthony Appiah s global citizenship theory explores the issue and works towards better
relations. According to Anzaldua, people are not of one culture, but in several cases, several clashing,
distinct cultures. Anzaldua argues that language is part of our identity, and it is a barrier between
cultures, sometimes even our own. While Locke argues, we are all created equal, we may not be
treated equal. Once society can deal with these problems, it can move forward towards Kwame
Anthony Appiah s global citizenship theory. I do not fit in one box on a federal checklist, I am of
several cultures. My experience of listening to my Grandmother s stories made me acutely aware of
this fact. I am not just an American, I am a Mexican American. Living in the Rio Grande Valley, I am
part of this third country that Anzaldua calls the borderland (Anzaldua Borderlands 1987, 3). In this
third country where the third world grates against the first and bleeds , the spilt blood creates a new
country; an uneasy fusion of both cultures (Anzaldua Borderlands 1987, 3). In my case I was born to a
father from Mexico and a mother from America, I am part of the third culture, the Mexican American.
I am proud to be an American and a Hispanic, yet America devalues me because of my heritage.

Human Trafficking Supply Chain Risk
ntro: Human Trafficking Supply Chain Risk When the media talks about human trafficking, the first
thing that comes to mind is the kidnapping and sale of women and children. Of girls lured from their
homes. But human trafficking is more than just sex trafficking. Many victims of trafficking are
conscripted into modern day slavery through force, fraud, or coercion. This takes the form of debt
bondage, forced labor, and involuntary child labor. Human Trafficking is also a supply chain issue.
Human trafficking in the supply chain may take many forms. For example; a consumer might stay at a
hotel where the sheets were made from cotton harvested by migrant farmers who work with no water
and no rest. Consume a chocolate they found on their pillow, made from cocoa beans picked using
child labor. Order shrimp for dinner which was fished using forced labor and where the dishwashers
and servers have had their passports confiscated. Take a call on their cell phone, which uses materials
that were mined by children and assembled by bonded labor. This is more than an ethical issue; it is a
business issue. President Obama noted that human trafficking slavery ought to concern every business
because it distorts markets. Consumers and investors have an increased awareness of supply chain
risk, and an increased aversion to companies perceived of exploiting slave labor. To address these
moral and economic issues the United States and other governments are actively passing legislation

Misogynistic and Sexist Undertones in One Flew Over the...
From the moment that the apple touched Eve s lips, women have been seen as an embodiment of all
that is evil. This reflects misogynistic societal beliefs that women are below men. While many of the
prejudices towards women are hidden in modern American society, some misogynistic stereotypes are
still present. In Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, one can see many misogynistic and
sexist undertones. Big Nurse Ratched is in a position of authority over a large group of men and is
seen as a tyrannical and unjust ruler. Although most of her methods would have been seen as awful
when used by any person, the saturation of bad women in the novel creates an unfavorable picture of
women in general. The balance of power in the ward is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, she attempts to conceal [her breasts] in [a] sexless get up (64). In order for McMurphy and
the men to regain power, they must regain their sexuality and reveal the nurse s. McMurphy s final
stand against the nurse involves him ripp[ing] her uniform all the way down the front (275) and
revealing breasts that she had concealed. With this metaphorical rape, Kesey is equating the men
regaining power with sexual dominance over women. The rape of the nurse is seen as a heroic act by
McMurphy, which conveys the misogynistic message that men have a right to sexual power over
women. The way that McMurphy performs this rape is effectively silencing the nurse, as he had his
heavy red fingers [in] the white flesh of her throat (275). Using silence in conjunction with a
metaphorical rape gives a further misogynistic tone, as McMurphy is exerting sexual dominance as
well as stopping her from being able to speak out against him, or any man. Because this is McMurphy
s final action, it is seen as his greatest one. Therefore, the man who can break a woman is seen as an
ideal specimen.
Size, both physical and metaphorical, plays a large role in the misogynistic references in the ward. The
Chief makes constant references to people s size. However, size is relative. One cannot be big without
someone else being small. When the nurse is in full control, the Chief sees her as big as a tractor (5).

The Concept Of Heritage In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Heritage: it is something that everyone possesses, whether they like it or not. It is not something that
people can choose, and it is not something people can change. Every family has their own unique
heritage, each celebrating it in a slightly different way. In brief, heritage is the celebration of one s
family and culture through family holidays, feasts, festivals, and traditions. Heritage is something that
people innately celebrate, it does not require much effort to celebrate it. However, some people make
it something not innate by using their heritage as an ostentatious display. The concept of celebrating
heritage innately or ostentatiously is explored through the characters Maggie, Mama, and Dee in the
short story Everyday Use by Alice Walker.

Voting System In America
Over seventy years ago, Joseph Stalin, leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, made a
remark about the democratic voting system in the United States. He stated, ...it is completely
unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this who will
count the votes, and how. Joseph Stalin, who once was a totalitarian dictator, was able to see the
loopholes in our democratic election process that the American people never addressed, or they simply
ignored. An American s vote no longer matters in the way that it used to; In fact, this is no longer an
area of black and white, instead it has changed to an obscure gray field that shadows over all
Americans. The prestigious land of the United States, where democracy has been held up for over two
centuries, is no longer upholding the belief of one man one vote. Instead, it has allowed the 528 votes
of the Electoral College to run rampant and impede on the founding beliefs that all Americans hold

rhythm as Jimi Hendrix pumped out the melody.

Introduction
I chose the topic of human attachment because I think it is a beautiful thing to watch. To see an infant
so instantly attached to its mother/father. It s just an amazing thing to see and to experience. In this

Attachment is the emotional bond that forms between an infant and its caregiver during the first year
of the baby s life. Especially with the infants parents. Attachment relationships are important functions
throughout infancy and our entire life. (Ainsworth, 1978)

The Issue Of Undocumented Immigrants
As the issue of undocumented immigrants once again dominates the news headlines, our politicians
are faced with the difficult task of enforcing the laws of our land, yet humanely and ethically tending
to those who illegally reside within America s borders. As the political parties face off with differing
ideologies, the undocumented, who are seen as victims from one side and criminals from the other, are
caught in this citizenship purgatory until a political compromise can be achieved. Until such a
compromise occurs, the nation is left dealing with the fallout of this population s existence. Not
belonging, they are left to fend for themselves while living in the shadows. Surviving through
government assistance or using a stolen identity as a means to gain employment, the undocumented
struggle to survive in a nation that is aware of their existence yet chooses to do nothing about it. To
address the illegal immigration epidemic in the United States, its leaders must hold all lawbreakers
accountable while compassionately and ethically addressing the issue through a balanced approach of
amnesty and deportation. The United States of America as a republic is defined to have a government
of laws, and not of men as stated by John Adams during its founding (5). Therefore no man or group
of men can exist above the law without disturbing civil cohesion and a breakdown in how our society
functions. It is the fundamental responsibility of the government to maintain and enforce

Introduction Historians and scholars have been discussing what some of the most prominent and

Revolution as being extremely important in terms of the politics of the world and democracy. Other
than that, we find that Christians have talked about how the crucifixion of Jesus Christ can be depicted

Why is the Exodus Important? The Exodus plays an important role for the Jewish community. One of
the biggest reasons is that it is something that is used as the justification for the land of Israel (Johnson
112). The Jews believe that the Exodus from Egypt was done based on a promise from God, who said
that the Jewish people would have ownership over a Promised Land, which is the area that is Israel
today. The Jewish people believe that the reason why God put them through the Exodus is because He
wanted the Jews to see His power and that He is the one who is in control of everyone s lives. For
instance, in the book of Exodus, it is written, So says God: Thus you will know that I am God (Exodus
7:17). The idea of Exodus is something that is meant to reveal a different side of God. It has to be
noted that God sent various plagues, such as the plagues of lice and the plagues of frogs. All of this
was done so that the people would know that God has a lot of power over the smallest things as well
as over all the different animals in nature. This is why he Exodus is mentioned repeatedly and it is also
something that the Jewish people tend to remember continually, as they believe that it shows how God
loved all humans and how He wants to save all humans from all kinds of problems.
Cultural Significance of Exodus The Jews remember the Exodus in their daily prayers and it is

The basic physical control is the implementation of security measures in a defined structure used to
deter or prevent unauthorized access to sensitive material ( 1.2.1. Physical Controls , n.d.). Also
physical controls are safeguards to avoid and minimize any security risk the organization have that
involving computer software or even personal property. Some examples of physical control are fences,
security guards, access cards, surveillance cameras, biometrics and locks. Cameras are very important
in an organization. Depending on governing law and the prevailing corporate culture, many companies
have policies which prohibit the taking of pictures on the premises (Seese, 2009). Organization
prohibits the taking of pictures on the premises because when an individual is taking pictures he or she
might be planning on doing harm to the organization. He or she might want to rob the organization
and wants to know how the organization layout looks like from the inside and the outside. Another
reason why taking pictures is prohibited in organization is because the individual could learn where
the surveillance cameras are located, individual could even take pictures with his or her cell phone,
that is why in some organization there is security walking around to prevent any picture to be taken.
There are different kinds of biometrics technologies. One category is physiological and another

Thomas Hobbes And State Of Nature
Thomas Hobbes an English philosopher best known for his works on the political philosophy and his
book of 1651 titled The Leviathan which established the Social Contract and the theory of State of
Nature . Thomas Hobbes who championed the idea of absolute sovereignty, he also played a role in
some fundamentals of European liberal thought , which was concerned with the rights of an
individual, the natural equality for all men and the artificial character of political order. However, the
objective of this essay is to critically discuss the necessity, especially the importance of state
according to Hobbes, the essay will further discuss the importance of sovereignty, the rise of social
contract and moreover Hobbes ideas on state of nature.
2. Background
According to Harrington (2005) From the appearance of his great work of political philosophy
Leviathan in 1651, Thomas Hobbes has been widely characterized as a propagandist of absolutist
government, a philosopher whose politics are fitted only to promote tyranny . He has rarely been
considered as a thinker concerned with the preservation of liberty, but rather as one who is willing to
countenance the sacrifice of liberty in the cause of security .
However, Harrington (2005) argues that the whole of Hobbes s political philosophy, his concept of a

History of the Funeral Rule Essay
HISTORY OF THE FUNERAL RULE
The roots of the Funeral Rule are found in two books that were published in the late 60 s Unsafe At
Any Speed by Ralph Nader and The American Way of Death by Jessica Midford. In the late 1960 s,
the FTC was a paper tiger. Ralph Nader, who began the consumer protection movement in this country
with the publication of Unsafe At Any Speed, was a sharp critic of the Federal Trade Commission for
its lack of consumer protection. Specifically, the FTC was criticized because it relied too heavily on
consumer complaints and brought enforcement actions only on a case by case basis. The consumer
protection movement wanted the FTC to proceed against entire industries rather than individual
businesses. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In March, 1976, the FTC received over 9,000 comments on the proposed rulemaking. The Final
Notice of Rulemaking was published in 1976 and identified 30 disputed areas of fact. These were the
focus of six public hearings that were held from April through August of 1976. There were 315
witnesses, many of which provided anecdotal evidence. There was very little empirical data such as
surveys and valid economic studies. Following the hearings, the presiding officer issued his report.
Additional comments were submitted by the public and the Final Staff Report was delivered to the
Commission in 1979. The FTC tentatively approved the Funeral Rule in March, 1979. The funeral
industry went to Congress and was able to obtain some relief in the form of the FTC Improvements
Act of 1980. That statute imposed new procedural safeguards in the FTC rulemaking process. It also
required the FTC to republish the Funeral Rule and take additional comments using the new
procedural safeguards. In 1981, the FTC republished the Rule and began a new proceeding. That led
to the promulgation of the Funeral Rule in 1982. After the NFDA unsuccessfully appealed the Rule to
the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Rule took effect on January 1, 1984. The Funeral Rule which
was finally adopted was less onerous then the one originally proposed. NFDA was successful in
having certain provisions deleted from the original Rule such as a requirement to have written

Ocean s Eleven Essay
Ocean s Eleven
Path goal Theory In Ocean s Eleven Steven Soderbergh did a great job as a director in keeping the
audience interested throughout the whole movie time. Path goal theory of leader effectiveness can be
easily applied to the movie. The path goal theory by Robert House holds that the leader can affect
group s performance, satisfaction and motivation by offering rewards for achieving goals, clarifying
paths towards these goals and removing obstacles to performance. After being released from prison,
Danny Ocean (Clooney) finds out that Las Vegas kingpin Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) is seeing his
ex wife Tess (Julia Roberts). Danny sets up a goal to steal millions from Terry and his ex wife back.

In some instances of the movie Danny is acting as directive leader, where he gives specific
instructions to the group and clarifies expectations. Path Goal theory assumes that leaders are flexible
and they can change their leadership style depending on the situations. Although, the leader behavior
outcome relationship is moderated by contingency variables environment and follower characteristics.
The followers do not have control of environment, and the environmental factors determine the
leadership style. Follower characteristics are the locus of control, experience, and perceived ability. In
the ocean s eleven case the team members can be described as having external locus of control where
they believe that their success is attributed to luck or fate. The whole robbery plan is based that each
member will performed his specified duties and everything goes well as planned, also that boxing
championship will not be cancelled on the weekend, which means that most significant high rollers
will go gambling. Danny and Rusty set up the path to be followed to achieve their goal to rob three
casinos owned by the ever ruthless Terry Benedict. Danny acts like the charismatic leader of the team.
The plan is to pull off the heist, but what enhances the movie s plot is Danny Ocean s charm. Besides
the common shared goal, the film also focuses on

Public Intoxication Laws In The United States
In the United States, public intoxication laws are reserved to the states, and because of that, drunk and
disorderly charges and penalties are the product of state and local laws. The charge of public
intoxication alleges that a person is visibly drunk or under the influence of drugs in a public place.
Typically, this charge is a misdemeanor, but if there are added charges like criminal mischief or DUI,
you can be facing very stiff penalties.
Elements of the Crime
The elements involved in a charge for drunk/disorderly are twofold; first, the person must be in a
public place . The definition of public place is something that is up to the courts to decide, and there is
no single legal definition of a public place. Second, their behavior or demeanor must show clearly that
they seem to be intoxicated. It should be noted that a number of states require the intoxication to be
severe; you seem so drunk that you are a threat to your own safety and that of others. Another
important note is that in some states, you can be convicted even if you are not drunk; the mere
appearance that you are intoxicated or high on drugs and your behavior may be enough for a
conviction.
Exceptions and Defenses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though most often public intoxication is a misdemeanor, the penalties will be high and it will
remain on your criminal record (do you really even want one?) for the rest of your life. Future
employees will see it before they decide whether or not to offer you a position. Luckily, there are
many defenses and exceptions to public intoxication charges that a good attorney well versed criminal
law will bring up to the courts. Here are a few defenses that your attorney might use on your

There are several soil results might happen after the tree removal in this case, from limited influence
to significant damage. As this case just mentioned the site soil classification of this reclaimed land is
H1 but not mention the soil type. If it s sandy area, removal trees might cause less damage to the soil
because sand does not swell or shrink with changes in moisture (Victorian building authority, 2015).
However, if these trees are used to take more moisture from the underground water system in clay soil
land, the tree removal land will become more wet or dry due to the different surrounding agricultural
situation. For example, if there are heavy rainy after the tree removal and there are no other trees or
shrubs around the site, too much accumulated water will stay on the hole and change the clay soils to
be more reactive. On the other hand, if there are other big trees and shrubs around the site, the extra
moisture will be absorbed by these trees and the site soil is going to be dry. Thus, the classification of
the soil will be changed and it lead to change the footing construction system as well. All in all, tree
conditions should be considered before the removal and a more careful site filling and cleaning jobs

  • 2. Wearable Wearability Research Paper Although physiological signals, such as an increase in temperature and blood pressure, are not traditionally considered an input channel within computer science, computers are gradually moving beyond the desktop and reaching closer contact with our bodies. An affective wearable a wearable computer equipped with physiological sensors and pattern recognition is designed to perceive and respond to the wearer s affective state. Affective states are determined by certain patterns; one pattern would be a change in nervous system activity, such as an increase in heart rate. While most wearables today are designed as bands around our wrists, these miniature flexible electrodes can be attached to jewelry or sewn into our clothes. Indeed, people are already in physical contact with many things that could be augmented with sensors (Picard). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Montessori Class Reflection These two past weeks we have been doing a lot of lecture series in class, which I enjoy a lot, I feel like I learn better when having a power point presentation to see, read, and listened to, instead of just talking about something or reading it. This past week we also had our first paper due, our thoughts and beliefs paper which we had time to talk about what we wrote about with a partner. I thought this was a very insightful way to see how other people interpreted the same assignment, and even though we both answered the questions we may have answered them in a different way or a different perspective. So far in class we have gone over some general theories of play, some of which I had already learned about in my developmental psych class, but others that I had not really hear of before. One of the surprising things I learned was about was the Montessori schools. Up until this class I had a negative connotation towards Montessori schools because one of my friends went there for kindergarten through fourth grade and she felt like they didn t properly prepare her for public schooling. She was behind in most of her classes, and didn t feel like she could easily catch up. But after learning that the Montessori schools teach independence to children I realize how she has often acted more mature and independent from people her own age. Although she was not top of her class she was able to catch up and graduate high school with all the kids she started 5th grade public school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Corporate Branding And Consumer Opinion Corporate branding and consumer opinion Corporations need to sell their product if they want to survive in the business industry. Consumers are aware of what they desire, dislike, and for the most part make their choices accordingly. For those that cannot decide as easily, there are many choices of different brands of the same product sold by different companies. When a corporation puts their label or name on the product, it is called branding (Klein 778). That is the way of consumerism and a way to make a product more tantalizing, is to think of extraordinary marketing concepts. This essay will discuss corporate brands and the effect on consumers, then, the paper will examine the concept of Neuromarketing. Corporations are not forcing anyone to use their product, but they are trying to capitalize and make themselves a household name. There is an expression, keeping up with the Jones or nowadays the Kardashians, and what that means is, the assumption would be that someone is attempting to obtain the same type of lifestyle or the same objects as someone else. Celebrities pay substantial amounts of money for fashion and designer product and many of them participate in campaign ads promoting different products. Celebrities make us think that if we purchase these items, we could be like the rich and famous. Often corporations make you think that if you buy their products, you can do and be better at life in general. For instance; the popular sports drink Gatorade has a ... • 5. Earth And The Solar System Each and every planet, moon, and rock in our solar system is different in many different ways. Surprisingly a lot of the known knowledge about our planets comes from guessing. Well not just random guessing smart guessing. Studying Earth can tell us a lot about other planets and what they are made of. Let s start at the core of planets, literally. Terrestrial planets like Earth and Mars have cores made of Iron. While the Jovian planets like Saturn and Jupiter have rocky cores. Scientists have multiple ways to probe the interiors of planets. The cores of each planet are a mixture of both solid and/or liquid. Planets spin just like a top, they wobble. The wobble in a planet is called precession. If a planet twists as it wobbles chances are it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When you fly a spacecraft near a planet you can measure how it is affected by the gravity. When the spacecraft flies closer to a planet it becomes more affected by the inner layers of the planets interior. Chemical fractionation is the process early in the formation of a planet that influences its structure of its interior is gravity. Gravity causes heavier elements to sink to the core of a planet. The thickness of a planet s crust is directly proportional to the rate at which the planet cooled in the past. Smaller planets cool faster. The cooling rate is proportional to the total mass of the planet. Large planets cool slower and have thinner crusts. High cooling rates also determine the interior structure. Slower cooling rates implies that planets still have warm interiors now. Warmer interiors imply more a diversified structure. This is why mars is red, since it is smaller it cooled faster and elements like iron stayed on the surface before sinking toward the core, which is why it also doesn t have a strong magnetic field like Earth. It is also worth noting that a thicker crust means less tectonic activity. The best way to determine a terrestrial planets interior is by using seismology. A device called a seismometer measures sheers from Earth quakes, or Moon/Mars quakes. When a planet quakes it sends waves rippling through the planets interior, the denser the layer the shorter the wavelength. Of course there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Role of Genes in the Development of Behavior Essay The Role of Genes in the Development of Behavior The debate concerning the influence of genes on human behavior has been on going for centuries. The nature vs. nurture (or heredity Vs. environment) debates are one of the longest running, and most controversial, both inside and outside psychology. It is concerned with some of the most fundamental questions a human being could ask, such as Why are we they way we are? and why do we develop as we do? Historically this debate has been fought from extreme perspectives, arguing that it is either nature (an individuals heredity genetic make up), or nurture (the environmental influences upon an individual) that determine a person s behavior. However in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With philosophical thinkers such as the John Locke, who believed that at birth the human mind is tabula rasa, a blank slate that is gradually filled with experience. On the other hand, the French philosopher Rene Descartes, was a seventeenth century nativist who believed that knowledge of the world was largely innate or inborn and that nature (heredity) determined certain abilities and capacities. Popular in the eighteenth century was the philosophy of Jean Jacques Rousseau who claimed that children should be free to develop as nature dictates. However towards the beginning of the nineteenth century the heredity thesis was more dominant but then again the dominant opinion swung to the environmental perspective by the middle of the century. The Canadian psychologist, D. O. Hebb in 1949[1] argued that there was too much misunderstanding on the subject because two separate facts had not been recognised. Firstly, that because we have the biological ability to form cell assemblies that allow us to store memories and solve problems, we therefore have the innate ability to form cell assemblies. However the second fact is that although we have this ability, we may not necessarily be able to do so to the fullest extent, depending on the environment that may either help or hinder ... The movie shows the way Israeli used their superiority to violently conquer Palestine. That was after being allowed a land to settle in Palestine. The Palestinian movie of 1980 s is seen to have instances of violence which are similar with the ones found in the movies of 1970 s. The aspects common in the movies in the two decades include financial and political instability, the need to recognize and equip the filmmakers in the cultural sector. Israeli Palestinian conflict is viewed in varied perspectives by both the filmmakers from the Arab countries and also the entire entertainment industry. Using movies to represent various challenges and differences provides insight, interpretations and also exposure to reality to the observers. That is a major approach that the Arab movie makers and other filmmakers use in their attempts to solve the conflict between Israeli and Palestine. Unfortunately, a question that many African Americans have to ask in childhood is Mommy, what does nigger mean?, and the answer to this question depicts the racism that still thrives in America (345). Both Gloria Naylor s Mommy, What Does Nigger Mean? and Countee Cullen s Incident demonstrate how a word like nigger destroys a child s innocence and initiates the child into a world of racism. Though the situations provoking the racial slur differ, the word nigger has the same effect on the young Naylor and the child in Cullen s poem. Unlike Naylor, Cullen never identifies the sex of the black child in his poem. Perhaps Cullen renders the child in his poem genderless to give the child a more universal standing; perhaps he leaves the child genderless in order to focus on the more important fact that the child, whether male or female, sees no difference between him or herself and the other boy until the Baltimorean boy calls him/her nigger (3). Both Cullen and Naylor add color to the description of the children with this single racial epithet. The white children s use of the word nigger establishes a distinction between them and the black children in Naylor and Cullen s works which embodies the essence of racism. This distinction forces the young Naylor and the child in Cullen s poem to see beyond their innocence and to see themselves and their world in new colors: black and white. Both Naylor and Cullen touch on an important issue by noting that the first incident of racism for the black children, occurring when the white children call them nigger, takes place between two children. The fact that the white boys call the young Naylor and the child in Cullen s poem nigger at such a young age reflects the unfortunate truth that America teaches color boundaries and racism at a young age. The word nigger does not exist in white children s vocabulary at birth. Rather, their parents and community teach them the word and pass down the legacy of racism as if it is an ... When you compare the 1970s to 2017 you can see the huge differences, and maybe some similarities. A lot has changed since the 70 s, including the style, lifestyle, pop culture, and more. Since the 70 s a lot has changed, we have changed in some ways and are similar in more ways than one. Here are the differences and similarities between the 70 s and today, 2017. In the 70 s the first president of the decade was Richard Nixon, he was the 37th president and was in office 1969 1974. Eventually Gerald Ford held office after Nixon resigned to avoid the eventual outcome of Watergate, which would have led to impeachment. Jimmy Carter then served as president in years 1977 1981, with Walter Mondale as vice president. Today in 2017 we have Donald Trump and Mike Pence, and people are begging for Trump to be impeached, similar to Nixon. Though people do see impeachment in Trump s future, but some do not. Another difference since the 70 s is the inflation of the dollar. A dollar in 1970 is worth $6.30 today, which is a 530.0% increase. A dollar in 1979 is worth $3.37, which is a 237% increase. When comparing the 70 s to today it is always best to compare the cost of living. In 1970 minimum wage was $1.60, today in New Mexico minimum wage is now $9.25. A year of tuition at a public college was about $1,200 in the 70 s, according to the college board, the average student payed about $9,650 for tuition. In January of ... It is as Nikhil that he loses his virginity at a party at Ezra Stiles, with a girl wearing a plaid woolen skirt and combat boots and mustard tights (105). Later in his life he starts to use his good name, Nikhil, and it seems he becomes a new person and enjoys life. The truth is Gogol isn t enjoying life, Nikhil is. Without people in the world to call him Gogol, no matter how long he himself lives, Gogol Ganguli will, once and for all, vanish from the lips of loved ones, and so, cease to exist. Yet the thought of this eventual demise provides no sense of victory, no solace. It provides no solace at all (289). The Selfish Gene is commonly misinterpreted and Dawkins uses this novel as his attempt to clarify his thoughts on the Selfish Gene. The main themes presented in the book are Concepts of altruistic and selfish behavior, Genetic definition of self interest, Evolution of aggressive behavior, Kinship theory, Sex Ratio theory, Reciprocal altruism, Deceit and Natural selection of sex differences. Many people question and or disagree with Dawkins views on the selfish gene but his ideas on the subject are logical. In the opening first chapter Dawkins carefully explains that the book is not is not a framework for morality or a set of behavioral guidelines. Dawkins poses the question in this chapter is birth control altruistic or selfish? Altruistic as a practice for the good of the group; or selfish, for the good of the individual reproducing? Dawkins tackles both theories, considers the cost and benefits of bearing and caring, but ultimately the answer is a mix of both theories, animals optimize their birth rates rather than restrict them for public ... If small amounts of data is considered then it is preferable to go with XML/RDF file storage, But if large amounts of data are considered where scalability, data integrity, query efficiency etc; are important, then it is preferable to go with XML/RDF database or relational database for storing RDF data (Zhou et al., 2010). • 15. Racism And The American Civil War The illusion that Racism is the same creates disturbing comments when discussing current events. Racism is defined as someone who believes their race is the superior race. The current events with the confederate flags has brought about conversation that these people are racist. This term is correct but misused when discussing the context for the choice of words. Society believes these individuals are racist because displaying the flag is assumed to display hatred. These people who proudly display the confederate flag are racist because they believe the white race is the supreme race. There is nothing wrong with that idea and they have that right to that opinion. Our government is built on the principle of freedom of speech and we can t apply this natural right to a one way street. It was that in 1860 to 1865 that the American Civil War widely known as the civil war took place, to determine survival of the union or independence of the confederacy. A milestone of the genre, the work incorporates an intricate plot with a unique setting and memorable characters. Dune is rich with thematic material, touching on such varied issues as ecology, economics, religion, and politics; ultimately, it is a novel about control, the consequences of power, and human nature. Any reading of Dune and its sequels inevitably arrives at an analysis of Paul, who begins the novel as the youthful ducal heir to House Atreides. Paul s character is the subject of continued debate among scholars of science fiction. In The Prince on Arrakis, Kevin Mulachy argues that Herbert s contrast of Paul and his adversaries is meant to provide an examination and refutation of Machiavellian political strategies. The Messiah and the Greens, by Susan Stratton, concludes that Dune is a novel expressing ecological concerns surfacing during the time of its inception; Paul is meant to offer a solution to the environmental problems of Arrakis. Paul Kucera s Jungian reading of Dune, presented in Listening to Ourselves suggests that the novel is an analysis of absolute symbolism, in which Paul is a representation of culturally unifying power. Comparisons can be drawn between Paul and ideas presented by Plato in The Republic; his character resonates strongly with both the philosopher king ideal and the puppetmasters of the Allegory of the Cave. The discussion between these different perspectives arises in several areas: Mulachy and Stratton present their opinions on how the setting of Dune affects Paul s actions. As both argue that the setting is important to Paul s rise to power, the discussion then turns to a debate on the protagonist s sources of power and how his role as ... This is a clear indication to the reader that the narrator is mad, and thus unreliable. The portrayal of the duchess in the duke s words is also an important part of the poem, but the main goal of My Last Duchess is the exploration of the mind of the speaker. The description of the duchess makes clear that the duke is obviously not in his right mind. He does not gain any self knowledge by the end of the poem: he blames others for their mistakes to disguise his own. What Browning is doing in My Last Duchess is making a case for an immoral position. The dramatic monologue is the perfect instrument for this, because of the tension between sympathy and moral judgment. Those immoral positions are an act of free will of the characters. The fact that there is a split between moral judgment and sympathy allows the reader to read the poem from the point of view of the speaker, and even sympathies with him or her, but the reader does not have to adopt that point of view or to agree with it. Human Trafficking Supply Chain Risk ntro: Human Trafficking Supply Chain Risk When the media talks about human trafficking, the first thing that comes to mind is the kidnapping and sale of women and children. Of girls lured from their homes. But human trafficking is more than just sex trafficking. Many victims of trafficking are conscripted into modern day slavery through force, fraud, or coercion. This takes the form of debt bondage, forced labor, and involuntary child labor. Human Trafficking is also a supply chain issue. Human trafficking in the supply chain may take many forms. For example; a consumer might stay at a hotel where the sheets were made from cotton harvested by migrant farmers who work with no water and no rest. Consume a chocolate they found on their pillow, made from cocoa beans picked using child labor. Order shrimp for dinner which was fished using forced labor and where the dishwashers and servers have had their passports confiscated. Take a call on their cell phone, which uses materials that were mined by children and assembled by bonded labor. This is more than an ethical issue; it is a business issue. President Obama noted that human trafficking slavery ought to concern every business because it distorts markets. This reflects misogynistic societal beliefs that women are below men. While many of the prejudices towards women are hidden in modern American society, some misogynistic stereotypes are still present. In Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, one can see many misogynistic and sexist undertones. Big Nurse Ratched is in a position of authority over a large group of men and is seen as a tyrannical and unjust ruler. McMurphy s final stand against the nurse involves him ripp[ing] her uniform all the way down the front (275) and revealing breasts that she had concealed. With this metaphorical rape, Kesey is equating the men regaining power with sexual dominance over women. The rape of the nurse is seen as a heroic act by McMurphy, which conveys the misogynistic message that men have a right to sexual power over women. The way that McMurphy performs this rape is effectively silencing the nurse, as he had his heavy red fingers [in] the white flesh of her throat (275). Using silence in conjunction with a metaphorical rape gives a further misogynistic tone, as McMurphy is exerting sexual dominance as well as stopping her from being able to speak out against him, or any man. Because this is McMurphy s final action, it is seen as his greatest one. Therefore, the man who can break a woman is seen as an ideal specimen. Size, both physical and metaphorical, plays a large role in the misogynistic references in the ward. The Chief makes constant references to people s size. However, size is relative. One cannot be big without someone else being small. When the nurse is in full control, the Chief sees her as big as a tractor (5). With her great size, Nurse Ratched is squashing the ... • 38. Voting System In America Over seventy years ago, Joseph Stalin, leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, made a remark about the democratic voting system in the United States. He stated, ...it is completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this who will count the votes, and how. Joseph Stalin, who once was a totalitarian dictator, was able to see the loopholes in our democratic election process that the American people never addressed, or they simply ignored. An American s vote no longer matters in the way that it used to; In fact, this is no longer an area of black and white, instead it has changed to an obscure gray field that shadows over all Americans. The prestigious land of the United States, where democracy has been held up for over two centuries, is no longer upholding the belief of one man one vote. The Exodus plays an important role for the Jewish community. One of the biggest reasons is that it is something that is used as the justification for the land of Israel (Johnson 112). Public Intoxication Laws In The United States In the United States, public intoxication laws are reserved to the states, and because of that, drunk and disorderly charges and penalties are the product of state and local laws. The charge of public intoxication alleges that a person is visibly drunk or under the influence of drugs in a public place. Typically, this charge is a misdemeanor, but if there are added charges like criminal mischief or DUI, you can be facing very stiff penalties. Elements of the Crime The elements involved in a charge for drunk/disorderly are twofold; first, the person must be in a public place . The definition of public place is something that is up to the courts to decide, and there is no single legal definition of a public place. Second, their behavior or demeanor must show clearly that they seem to be intoxicated. It should be noted that a number of states require the intoxication to be severe; you seem so drunk that you are a threat to your own safety and that of others.
