Sir Isaiah Berlin s Analysis of Freedom in Two Concepts of Liberty
Sir Isaiah Berlin is the author of one of the most important works on political philosophy written in
the twentieth century Two Concepts of Liberty . In the essay, he distinguishes between two types of
liberty. Negative liberty is simply being left alone to do whatever one wants to do, to be able to act
and achieve without interference from other persons. Positive liberty is defined as being free to be one
s own master, but also involves someone interfering with one s life to determine to an extent what one
becomes, and how one becomes one s own master.
Gerald MacCallum (1925 87) states that Berlin makes a mistake in ... Show more content on

If I cannot afford to buy food to feed myself, then my freedom is restricted. However, if I cannot win a
marathon because I haven t trained enough, then my freedom is not restricted.
When Berlin makes a distinction between positive and negative liberty, he seemingly tries to fit many
different ideas under two simplistic headings. The first idea that Berlin discusses is not being
interfered with, as opposed to the ability or power to act in a certain way. No interference can be
named formal freedom (which can be categorised as negative ), and amounts to x not being interfered
with when trying to do or become y; for example, a person is formally free to buy a house, as there is
no law barring this. Having the ability or power to act in a certain way can be named effective
freedom (which can be categorised under the positive label), and it amounts to x having the power or
capacity to do or be y; for example, a person is effectively free to buy a house only if he can afford to.
The two ideas differ in that x can be formally free to do y but may not be effectively free to do y, e.g. a
person is not stopped legally from buying a house but cannot afford to do so. So therefore to be
negatively free in this sense, one must be free from interference to do y, but to be positively free, one
must have to power or

Henry Hudson Research Paper
Who is he?
Henry Hudson was a navigator and sea explorer in the 17 century, who was born in 1565 England and
died after June 22 1611 nearby Hudson Bay Canada. Much is unknown about Hudson s birth but his
death came from a mutiny in the Hudson Bay (which was named after him) from his crew who casted
him and his son and some of the other crew with him adrift and have never been seen from that point
on.
Who and what country commissioned his voyages?
In 1607 the Muscovy Company in England hired Hudson to find the Northwest Passage from England
along the top of Canada to the pacific coast of Asia. But this didn t go to plan as they were forced back
due to pack ice and worsening conditions. But again the Muscovy Company wanted him to find the
route to the Indies but this time going to the east, along the top of Russia in 1608. Again this proved
unsuccessful forcing him back to Europe. In 1609 Hudson was chosen by the Dutch of The Dutch East
Trading Company to find a route to Asia through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This started greater interest among Europe to explore the New World and make claims on the newly
discovered land. Also after Hudson made his fateful exploration of the Hudson Bay it lead to a
gigantic fur trade to come to fruition in the area with the local people. The Hudson Bay Company
grew the lucrative trade to gain enough power to influence and alter the boundaries of North America.
Also from the further exploration of the Hudson Bay under then the English Flag by Henry Hudson,
led to the sudden claims of the new found land in Canada by the English. The Hudson Bay was soon
became the gateway to the Norwest passage from further explorations of the shorelines and local area.
Which is very interesting considering as at first there didn t seem to be a route found to from the
Hudson bay to nor west

The Culture Of The Word Culture Essay
There are many laity use of the word culture that gets thrown around in day to day conversation
amongst our peers. Culture is used to define certain aspects of our lives and how we live on a daily
basis. There are some that believe that they do not possess a culture. There are others who feel that we
all live our own individual unique culture in our lives. However, being that culture is such a broad
subject, the only way to define it is to operationalize its context and attempt to try and understand it
based on a universal definition. Sergiovanni and Corbally s (1986) definition of culture includes a
system of values, symbols, and shared meanings in a group that includes embodying these values,
symbols, and shared meanings in ritualize practice. Using this particular definition of culture, the
small island of Okinawa is enriched with it. Their way of day to day lifestyle, geographical terrain, as
well as their military history can all be analyzed through their culture as well as provide information in
terms of our current military jargon for the benefit of the United States Army.
Culturally, Okinawans separate themselves from the association of the Japanese culture, even though
they are still considered a territory of Japan. The differences in their landscape, their way of life,
language, and even their societal infrastructure are the basis of their adamant separation from Japan.
Its geographical complexities are also what make Okinawa unique from its neighboring

Stereotypes In An Autistic Life
By having an amazing autistic family member, I am able to see both worlds, what an autistic life is
like, and what an autistic life may seem to someone on the outside. The textbook defines the word
schemata as a database of stored, related information (Jones Jr., 2012), information that we have
developed over time (Jones Jr., 2012). Schemata allows us to interpret the things we see around us,
how we behave, and act in certain situations. People tend to place stereotypes on autistic people, you
see autism is very broad, and each person is different and incredible. For years people have
misunderstood autism based on previous experiences, thinking that just because their minds don t fit

He believed that minimal role of state in the economy and whether people act out of self interest will
benefit to the society. Invisible hand will regulate the market which at once satisfies self interest and
the needs of the community. Hence Smith s considered political economy as the study of wealth
generation . (Babe 2009: 14) Karl Marx with other economists worked on Labour theory of Value
(Babe: 14) believing that workers have rights to be paid for their work (labour). This is another
important characteristic of classical political economy. But on the other hand he claimed that (to be in
opposition to Adam Smith s theory) free market polarises wealth where rich people get richer and poor
get even poorer. So the public ownership of the means of production is the only way of equal
distribution of wealth. People act out unity and for the good of society. Neoclassical Political
Economy is all about consumers taste and preferences which is valued and preferred more than labour.
Class does not matter at all, but everyone is a consumer and cultural goods and services became
treated as commodity. In this neoclassical period of political economy the main question is how
humans want be most satisfied? And how markets function at the best? (Hesmondhalgh 2007)
Economics became essentially a mathematical deductive system in stark contrast to classical political

The Pros And Cons Of Praising God
The word praise, from Old French and Latin, means to praise someone, to glorify and extol through
song or compliments and dedication. Praising the Lord is an ocean of feelings at once. Praising the
Lord is expecting a song and acquiring a torrential downpour of adoration and acceptance; everything
pales in comparison. Praising the Lord is expecting disdain and attaining complete acceptance of
every element of you. It is finally realizing how flawless He made you. Falling from the path He
created for you does not suggest that you cannot be forgiven of your sins and be accepted totally. A
thousand times I ve failed/ Still Your Mercy remains/ Should I stumble again/ Still I m caught in Your
Grace ( From the Inside Out by Hillsong UNITED). Praising the Lord is expecting a dry oatmeal
raisin cookie and receiving the entire package of mint Oreos your mother used to refuse to pay four
dollars for. It is sweet and your favorite and truly does not cost half as much as she accuses it of. It
does not require too much time or cause you to be tired when the day comes to a close. In fact,
worshipping is what revitalizes you for the week and helps you experience life with composure and a
focused mind. Praising the Lord is dedicating your life to a God who is real and who created the
heavens and the universe. Understanding that is one step closer to feeling the magnitude of His love
and His acceptance of all of your human flaws. This feeling is the final unleashing of the thousands

Network Security Practices Essay
Today s corporate infrastructure is not the same as it was 10 years ago. In the past you were able to
control the amount of attacks on a network because of the reasonable number, which is not the case
today. At any given time an organizations network will be attacked or try to be attacked several
hundred times in one day. For larger more well known organizations this number could grow
significantly. To ensure your organization is not one of the ones on the 10 oclock news you have to
ensure you have proper security practices in place to secure your network.
Most people in the security field agree that good security policies are necessary to keep intruders out

Having this type of accountability will help you in having a better understanding and provide for a
good foundation for enforcing security across the organization. This area should also cover the
different types of data each person handles on a daily basis. It should clearly outline the different
categories that data will fall into whether it be internal, external, general use or confidential. By doing
so you now allow the employees to have a better understanding of what data they can manipulate and
data that has to stay the same.
2. Remote Access Policies users are always going to want to access the office network from a remote
site. We have to ensure that there are policies in place that allow them to do so but in a safe manner. If
they are going to remotely access the network it has to be done in accordance with the security
policies of the organization and not on their terms. This should include using a laptop or remote
connection software that has been pre approved by the organizations security team, keeping IP s in a
safe place, making sure that if they are accessing the network from a laptop to ensure that hard drive is
encrypted. This will prevent anyone from gaining access the sensitive information if it is ever lost or
stolen. Lastly not everyone should be granted remote access to the network; this privilege should only
be given to people who have a legitimate need for it.

Summary Of The Black Walnut Tree
The Black Walnut Tree
The Black Walnut Tree by Mary Oliver begins with the line My mother and I debate . There are two
characters introduced: the narrator and her mother. In a typical family, there is a mother, daughter, and
father. The lack of a father in this introduction stands out. This is furthered by the line two women
trying / in a difficult time to be wise . The author highlights the lack of the father once again by saying
two women , in order to clearly demonstrate the lack of male, fatherly figure. Lacking a fatherly figure
makes the phrase a difficult time more meaningful; it implies that not only has the family become
poor, the family has also lost its patriarch. Later in the poem, however, the narrator dream[s] / of my
fathers out of Bohemia / filling the blue fields . The author uses alliteration here with blue and
Bohemia , and even further back with brighter and blood . The use of the letter b is kind of forceful
and proud, which entails with the message the poem is sending. The imagery in this part of the poem
is also very vivid. The narrator says that her ancestors planted and by imagining it, she implies that
she believes that they planted the walnut tree in her backyard. Instead of using ancestors , the author
chooses to use the word fathers . This use of metonymy fills the gap in the family of two women from
earlier. Knowing that there is no father in the picture, this revelation of ancestors as fathers makes the
ancestors far more

Pruriceptive Itch
For the most part we all itch subconsciously to gain relief from minor disturbances on our skin. But
most of us have probably experienced itches that go far beyond this level to the point where an itch
can take over you entire mind for several minutes. As an example of a more extreme case a patient
with HIV from Massachusetts developed a severe deep crawling itch on the right side of her scalp in
response to shingles medication. Her scratching intensified at night time and one unfortunate morning
she woke up to find green liquid on her hands. When she got to the hospital she was immediately
admitted into an Emergency department. She had scratched through her skull and into her brain
(Gawande).
Scientists classify itches in four categories pruriceptive (skin irritation and inflammation), neuropathic
(chronic itching due to nerve damage), neurogenic (activation of the CNS without stimulus), and
psychogenic (mental illness). Pruriceptive itch, the most common type, can be triggered by
stimulation of pruriceptors by mechanical, thermal and even chemical mediators such as histamines
which are part of our body s immune response (HowStuffWorks).

The authors also make the important observation that pain has the ability to suppress itch which is
shown when the mechanical pain of a scratch masks an itch, but never see an itchy sensation relive
pain (Sun). This led the authors to believe that pain and itch have common neuronal paths but
somehow our CNS is able to distinguish these sensations. Their new selectivity theory claims that itch
stimuli are itch neuron specific while painful stimuli activates a wide range of neurons that ultimately
inhibits the itch sensation while producing the pain

Lab Report Hydrated Magnesium Sulfate
hydrated magnesium sulfate.
Background: According to George B. Kauffman of Britannica, a hydrate is any compound containing
water in the form of H2O molecules, usually, but not always, with a definite content of water by
weight. Within this, there are two aspects of the compound; the water of hydration and the anhydrous
salt. When a hydrate is heated, the water of hydration leaves the compound as vapor due to the
unsteady bonds between the water and salt molecules. The anhydrous salt ends up becoming the only
piece that is leftover. From the two, the percent water in a hydrate and the mass of the salt can be
determined from the loss of the water of hydration. As a result, the formula of the compound can be
found because the masses of the salt and the water can be used to determine the mole ratio, which are
both small, whole numbers.
Materials:
Gas burner
Ring stand and ring
Triangle made from clay
Crucible + lid
Crucible tongs
Wire pad
Balance scale
Spatula
Hydrated magnesium sulfate
Procedure:
Assemble the ring and ring stand atop a flat surface. Place the clay triangle in the center of the ring.
Lastly, bring the crucible with its lid into the clay triangle, so that it is hanging.
Turn on the gas burner and bring it a low heat, only to the point that there is a blue flame. Carefully
push the gas burner under the crucible and heat for around two minutes in order to properly rid the
crucible of any bacterias or other impurities that may affect the lab.

The Importance Of Tourism In Hong Kong
Hong Kong has been commonly constructed as and known to both tourists as a thoroughly
metropolitan city, of which its modern architecture, especially with its densely populated skyline
around the Victoria Harbour, and boisterous and fast paced lifestyle involving non stop eating and
shopping take centre stage as a few of Hong Kong s many selling points (Choi, Chan Wu, p 364).
Much of Hong Kong s status as an economic success could be attributed to its harbour. After Hong
Kong was ceded to the British after the First Opium war with the Chinese Qing dynasty in 1842, the
island, which was previously a sleepy collection of fishing villages (Choi, 2007, p.8), became one of
Britain s most important trading ports for spices and tea from China (p. 9). The development of Hong
Kong under British colonial rule has undoubtedly influenced the character of Hong Kong as a tourist
destination, with many of its promoted sites, such as the tramways on Hong Kong Island, the Peak
tram up Victoria Peak, and the Star Ferry all being historical modes of public transportation still
operating today. This tour will focus on the Star Ferry, exploring its symbolic importance to Hong
Kong identity and how past and contemporary events that have occurred in the physical area of the
Star Ferry Pier where the ferry operates from have been discursively co opted into, and representative
of a greater contestation of hegemonic ideologies surrounding Hong Kong s identity, as part of an

Rhetorical Analysis Of Neville Longbottom
Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can t practice any other
virtue consistently. This quote by Maya Angelou exemplifies a value that Neville Longbottom
eventually comes to terms with. In the movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Neville
Longbottom gives out a speech that captivates everybody s attention. Neville is a friend to Harry,
Hermione, and Ron, who all belong to the Gryffindor house, which symbolizes the bravery in
Hogwarts. Throughout the series, Neville had always been a very shy and timid character, but as the
end of the last movie approached, he started becoming more and more like a Gryffindor should be.

This is mostly displayed when Neville exclaims, They didn t die in vain. [he turns to Voldemort] But
you will! Because you re wrong! Harry s heart did beat for us. For all of us! By raising his voice,
Neville is able to convey an angry and exasperated tone which makes the audience see the emotion
that the speaker is trying to portray. The screaming shows how he is challenging Voldemort and
demonstrating his bravery and credibility towards the concerned audience. This tone is an effective
rhetorical strategy since it basically shows the speaker s emotions and his ability to pass on these
emotions towards the audience. By doing so, Neville is able to successfully motivate the audience and
make sure that they all are involved in killing Lord Voldemort. Furthermore, Neville also uses an
authoritative tone, showing that he is not afraid of Voldemort, and ultimately proving that his life is
not worthy in comparison of any of the lives that he has taken from Neville s group of friends. This
specific tone is appropriate for the occasion because it was right after Harry s death, which made all of
the audience vulnerable, and making Voldemort feel like he had essentially won the war he had been
fighting. By having an authoritative and challenging tone, it made Voldemort see that this war was not
over yet and that he was not done fighting since he would have to pay for all the harm he

Symptoms And Symptoms Of The Memory Loss
Introduction Amnesia is a mental illness that refers to memory loss. The cause for the memory loss
can be due to several factors. The memory loss could be due to emotionally disturbing events;
memory loss can also be cause of physical harm usually to the cephalic region. The disease also
interrupts the normal everyday functioning of a person suffering amnesia. An individual may still be
able to carry out certain activities despite the amnesia. Fortunately, there are diverse ways to treat
amnesia.
Pathophysiology
Amnesia is a large scale loss of information that normally should have not been forgotten, such as key
facts, important people in an individual s life, and memorable events. Amnesia also refers to the
inability to memorize information (MediLexicon, 2015). Amnesia consists of two features.
Anterograde amnesia is when new data is unable to be retained. The incapability to recollect
previously known information and past occurrences is called retrograde amnesia (Mayo Clinic, 2014).
There are two different types of amnesia and different causes for the two types. The first type of
amnesia is called organic or neurological amnesia. This amnesia is a result of brain damage or injury.
Amnesia can be caused by oxygen deprivation, like from a heart attack, certain medications like
ambien, the sleep aid, and also a stroke. Encephaloma in the memory region could also be cause.
Amnesia may also result from head injuries and encephalitis. The second type of amnesia is called

Every area has evolved greatly since the beginning of time, whether it be minor events or major

Romans took advantage of this weakness they would then Divide and conquer: buy off the Celtic

many years until Britannia was invaded by the Anglo Saxons, after that there was no loyalty to each

was also known as Christianization because all areas Rome conquered became Christian. Christianity

It is even still today the main religion throughout most communities in the world. The Romans were

Franklin Roosevelt promised to get the United States out of the Great Depression during the election;
saying this is the main reason on why he became President on March 4, 1933. He had many words to

he said he would in his election days.
To begin, the First New Deal was otherwise called the Hundred Days that went from March 9th June
16 of the year 1933. During the days Congress passed a series of laws to provide relief to victims of
the Great Depression. There was little to none opposite to the many law Congress had passed. One of

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Immigration
Immigration is the movement through which an individual permanently moves from their place of
residence from one country to another. Immigration is a topic which divides political parties and
general debate. Whilst some people see the positives of immigration, such as the filling of skill gaps in
low and highly skilled jobs, others see the negatives of immigration, such as the strain on services
such as the NHS, schools and housing.
Firstly, there are clear benefits to immigration. Different communities have moved to Great Britain
from as early as 250AD, such as the Indian, Irish, African and Jewish communities. Immigration has a
long history. However, high levels of immigration started during the period of 1946 1948. This was
around the end of the second world war, when there were labour shortages in Britain and the rest of
Europe. The government had to look for immigrants to fill these shortage gaps. In particular157,000
Polish citizens allowed to settle in the UK partly because of ties and connections made during the war
years.
The government was unable to recruit enough people from Europe to fill these labour shortages and so
turned towards west India. Many men from the West Indies had fought for the mother country and had
moved back to civilian life in their home country where there were few work opportunities. Their
sense of patriotism, coupled with the need of work, steered them back towards the UK. On the 22nd of
June 1948, the ship Windrush docked at Tilbury in

Why 1984 Should Be Banned
As with any form of someone s artistic creation there are bound to be good and bad opinions or
criticisms. So when someone writes a book they know it will not please everyone. However, do any
authors ever think, Not only can my book be ill received, but it might even get banned. Now what
does it mean for a book to be banned? Well it means that reading said book is not allowed either by
school, state or even country. To enforce the banning libraries and bookstores will not have the books
available for people to check out. For a book to be banned it must first be challenged, but not all
challenged books get banned. For example, the book 1984 was banned in the Soviet Union for being
against communism and was burned. However, in Jackson County, ... Show more content on

In doing so, both of them can be arrested and accused of acts of rebellion simply by their meeting in

because workers of the government or citizens are not supposed to speak in that manner, especially
about the government. However, since both of them dislike the government it is through their
language that they can further rebel. Sometime later in the same hiding spot they had met, Winston
and Julia have a moment of intimacy. This is one of the worst acts of rebellion against the government
since being intimate can lead to forming a relationship. For the government, it also means that a
citizen s loyalty is not entirely to it s country. As they are about to begin Winston asks if she had ever
done this before. Julia replies with, Of course.

Film Analysis Of The Romantic Genre And Movie Rocky
Genre theory is used to study films and put them into a classification so that audiences know what
type of film it is before they see it. Genres are categories based on the story of the film, sometimes the
actors and actresses, or even the directors. All films fall under a genre or sub genre category. Romantic
Comedy is an example of a genre which is light hearted, humorous story involving people in love,
sometimes overlapping with subgenres such as screwball comedy teen comedy, or gross out comedy. (
Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014, table 4.1). This paper will focus on the romantic comedy genre and movie
Rocky. It will take a better look at the specific conventions of this genre and how this movie fits the
gangster genre. Romantic comedy films create a comic climate through a series of cues to the
audience: subject matter is treated as trivial, jokes and physical humor make fun of events, and
characters are protected from harm (Grindon Leger (2015). Romantic comedy films usually have a
couple that meet and fall in love in some way throughout the movie. In the movie Rocky Sylvester
Stallone as Rocky meets Adrian at the pet shop and realizes she is the women he wants to be with.
Rocky is a want to be boxer at the time who wants to be a professional boxer and knows Adrian s
brother from the gym. When Rocky sees Adrian through the window of the pet shop he uses the
excuse that he buys a fish and asks her out. Adrian agrees and she is a very bashful lady, she dresses
and looks very homely. Rocky and Adrian starting dating and she supports him through his boxing
career. The couple falls in love and they get married. Adrian starts dressing nice and gets contacts to
the point you see her transform into a beautiful lady by the end of the film. The genre of Romantic
comedy is pairing two individuals into a couple with some comedy which Rocky proves to have. The
comedy part would be where Adrian asks Rocky why he boxes and he says because he can t dance or
sing . Throughout the film there are little conventions to show the comedy. The film Rocky the first
convention would be the setting. In the film it is set in 1976 in the low income part of Philadelphia.
This shows the Rocky and Adrian started out

Fritz Haber s Accomplishments
Fritz Haber was a Jewish scientist that used his knowledge of science in ways that effected our world.
He led the push for inventing chemicals that he thought would be beneficial for Germany to use
during WWI. He is known as the father of chemical warfare , scientist of death or the immoral
scientist due to the tremendous amount of pain, suffering and death that he caused. Haber s immense
sense of nationalism led him to making many ambiguous decisions. The long term effects of Haber s
inventions were negative and many people lost their lives because of him. Haber s talent in science led
him to create weapons that were very destructive. He created chlorine gas that he believed would help
Germany advance in WWI. By the spring of 1915, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They convulsed in pain, tearing at their throats. Pus and phlegm filled their lungs. Yellow mucous
frothed from their mouths before they coughed out blood. Their faces twisted in agony, they drowned
on the land. Terrified by this new horror, many Allied soldiers ran, leaving a six kilometer gap in the
line (Barach N.P.). Soldiers endured excruciating pain when this lethal gas was released onto the
battlefield. Due to a gap that was left in the line, Haber s plan to gain an advance was unsuccessful.
Fritz Haber got his way. On April 22nd, he made hell worse (Barach N.P.). The war was already very
devastating and Haber s introduction of chlorine gas made the war even more tragic. The explosives
he was manufacturing were horrific enough, but his work on poison gas had already killed German
troops in test runs (Barach N.P.). Haber was not only demolishing thousands of people on the
opposing side, but he was also killing his own men that he was dependent on to succeed in the war.
Further weapons of industrial warfare were developed. For three more years the war dragged on until
no more blood could be shed. At 11am on November 11th, 1918, the last shots of The Great War were
fired. Germany was defeated.

Allowing someone to choose when to die, in the face of intolerable pain, is seen by South Australian
Voluntary Euthanasia Society (SAVES) as the most dignified and compassionate remedy to end
suffering (South Australian Voluntary Euthanasia Society 1995). Therefore, present legislation
allowing patients to refuse treatment does not help them to die with any dignity. 5.2 Life Support
The cost of healthcare has risen dramatically and shows every sign of continuing to do so (Australian
Psychological Society n.d.). The Australian Psychological Society claim that for many, the improper
use of life support systems to temporary lengthen life, without any improvement in the quality of life,
can be used as a good argument for euthanasia (Australian Psychological Society n.d.). Medical policy
and hospital practice means decisions are already being made about who qualifies for life support.
This implies an already covert practice of euthanasia (Chaney 2001). Therefore, some form of
legalisation would acknowledge an already existing practice and extend the decision making to the
patient also.
5.3 Public Opinion
Recent studies and polls in Australia seem to show support from both professionals and the general
public for individuals to have the right to choose between euthanasia as an alternative to a life of
suffering (What is euthanasia? 2006, para 8). If it is supposed that legislation should represent the
views of the public, then

Others were shot at the whim of the Nazis guards. Those Jews that worked had their lives spared but
were fed only enough to keep them alive. No one knows for sure how many children were killed but it
is estimated at between 1.2 and 1.5 million. The children that survived did so because they were
hidden in homes, basements and convents or lived with Christian families who concealed their

Jews not immediately selected for extermination faced a living death in the concentration camp, which

Beowulf Good Vs Evil
Beowulf Good vs. Evil
Throughout Beowulf, the concept of good vs. evil is not only expressed, but is capitalized on
continuously. Beowulf is the protagonist in the adventure and has a clearly defined counterpart:
Grendel; the evil entity. They are put against each other numerous times as a representation of how
there will be a never ending quarrel between good and evil. This can be compared to a specifically
recent event: the Las Vegas terror attack. Though this may only be one event, the threat of terror
attacks has been a constant concern; the Las Vegas, only being more severe and recent. This constant
tension between the terrorists and the people is just as that of Beowulf and Grendel: never ending. A

Christ Figures in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet...
Romeo and Juliet as Christ Figures
Introduction and Modern Interpretations
Modern audiences have been reintroduced to William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet largely through
modern film reinterpretations of the play. Many of these films, most notably Baz Luhrmann s 1996
version of Romeo and Juliet and John Madden s 1998 Shakespeare in Love, have focused on the tragic
destiny of these two star crossed lovers . Seemingly, it is the destiny of Romeo and Juliet to commit
suicide because they are not allowed to love each other. It s the kind of dramatic story that makes
teenage hearts swoon: pure love, passionate love, forbidden love. And while the passionate romance of
young Capulet and young Montague is essential to the play, it is by ... Show more content on

Romeo and Juliet are tragic, but not for their ill begotten love. Rather, they are tragic for their roles as
martyrs, sacrificing themselves to make peace between their feuding families. This sacrifice motif
plays to a much more adult audience, taking these two young characters out of the sole possession of
young audiences.
Thomas Otway s Caius Marius; Love in a Time of Civil War
The sacrifice of Romeo and Juliet can be better understood by first entering through the back door.
Caius Marius, written by Thomas Otway was first performed in England in the fall of 1679 and
subsequently published a year later (Murray 49). This loosely based version of Romeo and Juliet was
the only exposure that the contemporary theatergoer would have had to the Romeo and Juliet story.
The viewer of this particular version of Romeo and Juliet recognized it through the author s own
concession, as Otway freely admits he has rifled him [Shakespeare] of half a Play (Prologue). Otway s
version is set in classical Rome, and rather than feuding families, Otway gives us two candidates for
the position of Roman Emperor. The reader is immediately exposed to political strife; there are two
factions, each led respectively by Caius Marius Sr. and Metellus. The connection to Romeo and Juliet
is clear; Caius Marius represents the Montague clan while Metellus is the Roman version of Capulet.
The obvious similarities between Caius Marius and the original

LORAN is a pulsed hyperbolic system. Which means that hyperbolic lines of position are determined

The secondary station maintains a fixed time difference between its reception of the primary signal

Car Warranty

warranty might have even helped encourage you to purchase the car that you chose. Therefore, the last
thing that you probably want is to find out that your warranty is not valid later on when you need it.
For example, some people end up voiding their car warranties without even realizing it. These are a
few tips that can help you avoid issues with your car s warranty, however.
1. Keep Up With Your Car s Maintenance Schedule
For one thing, your car should have a manufacturer specific car maintenance schedule that lists when

Another thing that you might be required to do in order to maintain your car s warranty is to replace
any parts that are faulty with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts. Even though you might
sometimes be able to save some money by choosing aftermarket parts instead of OEM parts, you ll
probably find that it s not worth the potential cost savings when it could put you in jeopardy of
voiding your car s warranty.
Luckily, in most cases, it s not too difficult to maintain your car s warranty. If you follow these tips,
you shouldn t have anything to worry about. Of course, different car warranties do vary, so if you have
any specific questions about your vehicle, it s a good idea to check your warranty information or to

Crisis In Flint
In a contemporary light, the crisis in Flint is viewed as one of the most abhorrent violations of the
right to clean water. But in our initial reactions of shock and awe, we must ask one fundamental
question: Is this crisis the beginning of a national catastrophe? To answer this question, we don t have
to look far. Last week, the Ithaca City School District shut off their water supply after the detection of
high levels of lead. In Newark, New Jersey, 17,000 children are now being tested for lead poisoning.
In Long Island, New York, dilapidated cesspools leaking nitrogen have led to a mass die off of flora

that is our nation s water infrastructure. Experts on urban water infrastructure have characterized water

Who do you think is the intended audience?
The intended audience is skilled labored oriented bushmen s and sawmills hands workers. This is what

Why was it created?
This was created in attempt to recruit labored skilled individuals who would contribute to the valiant

  • 2. Sir Isaiah Berlin s Analysis of Freedom in Two Concepts of... Sir Isaiah Berlin s Analysis of Freedom in Two Concepts of Liberty Sir Isaiah Berlin is the author of one of the most important works on political philosophy written in the twentieth century Two Concepts of Liberty . In the essay, he distinguishes between two types of liberty. Negative liberty is simply being left alone to do whatever one wants to do, to be able to act and achieve without interference from other persons. Positive liberty is defined as being free to be one s own master, but also involves someone interfering with one s life to determine to an extent what one becomes, and how one becomes one s own master. Gerald MacCallum (1925 87) states that Berlin makes a mistake in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If I cannot afford to buy food to feed myself, then my freedom is restricted. However, if I cannot win a marathon because I haven t trained enough, then my freedom is not restricted. When Berlin makes a distinction between positive and negative liberty, he seemingly tries to fit many different ideas under two simplistic headings. The first idea that Berlin discusses is not being interfered with, as opposed to the ability or power to act in a certain way. No interference can be named formal freedom (which can be categorised as negative ), and amounts to x not being interfered with when trying to do or become y; for example, a person is formally free to buy a house, as there is no law barring this. Having the ability or power to act in a certain way can be named effective freedom (which can be categorised under the positive label), and it amounts to x having the power or capacity to do or be y; for example, a person is effectively free to buy a house only if he can afford to. The two ideas differ in that x can be formally free to do y but may not be effectively free to do y, e.g. a person is not stopped legally from buying a house but cannot afford to do so. So therefore to be negatively free in this sense, one must be free from interference to do y, but to be positively free, one must have to power or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Invisible hand will regulate the market which at once satisfies self interest and the needs of the community. Hence Smith s considered political economy as the study of wealth generation . (Babe 2009: 14) Karl Marx with other economists worked on Labour theory of Value (Babe: 14) believing that workers have rights to be paid for their work (labour). This is another important characteristic of classical political economy. But on the other hand he claimed that (to be in opposition to Adam Smith s theory) free market polarises wealth where rich people get richer and poor get even poorer. So the public ownership of the means of production is the only way of equal distribution of wealth. People act out unity and for the good of society. Neoclassical Political Economy is all about consumers taste and preferences which is valued and preferred more than labour. Class does not matter at all, but everyone is a consumer and cultural goods and services became treated as commodity. In this neoclassical period of political economy the main question is how humans want be most satisfied? And how markets function at the best? Praising the Lord is an ocean of feelings at once. Praising the Lord is expecting a song and acquiring a torrential downpour of adoration and acceptance; everything pales in comparison. Praising the Lord is expecting disdain and attaining complete acceptance of every element of you. It is finally realizing how flawless He made you. Falling from the path He created for you does not suggest that you cannot be forgiven of your sins and be accepted totally. It is sweet and your favorite and truly does not cost half as much as she accuses it of. It does not require too much time or cause you to be tired when the day comes to a close. In fact, worshipping is what revitalizes you for the week and helps you experience life with composure and a focused mind. • 13. Summary Of The Black Walnut Tree The Black Walnut Tree The Black Walnut Tree by Mary Oliver begins with the line My mother and I debate . There are two characters introduced: the narrator and her mother. In a typical family, there is a mother, daughter, and father. The lack of a father in this introduction stands out. This is furthered by the line two women trying / in a difficult time to be wise . The author highlights the lack of the father once again by saying two women , in order to clearly demonstrate the lack of male, fatherly figure. Lacking a fatherly figure makes the phrase a difficult time more meaningful; it implies that not only has the family become poor, the family has also lost its patriarch. Later in the poem, however, the narrator dream[s] / of my fathers out of Bohemia / filling the blue fields . The author uses alliteration here with blue and Bohemia , and even further back with brighter and blood . The use of the letter b is kind of forceful and proud, which entails with the message the poem is sending. The imagery in this part of the poem is also very vivid. The narrator says that her ancestors planted and by imagining it, she implies that she believes that they planted the walnut tree in her backyard. Instead of using ancestors , the author chooses to use the word fathers . This use of metonymy fills the gap in the family of two women from earlier. Knowing that there is no father in the picture, this revelation of ancestors as fathers makes the ancestors far more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Pruriceptive Itch For the most part we all itch subconsciously to gain relief from minor disturbances on our skin. But most of us have probably experienced itches that go far beyond this level to the point where an itch can take over you entire mind for several minutes. As an example of a more extreme case a patient with HIV from Massachusetts developed a severe deep crawling itch on the right side of her scalp in response to shingles medication. Her scratching intensified at night time and one unfortunate morning she woke up to find green liquid on her hands. When she got to the hospital she was immediately admitted into an Emergency department. She had scratched through her skull and into her brain (Gawande). Scientists classify itches in four categories pruriceptive (skin irritation and inflammation), neuropathic (chronic itching due to nerve damage), neurogenic (activation of the CNS without stimulus), and psychogenic (mental illness). Pruriceptive itch, the most common type, can be triggered by stimulation of pruriceptors by mechanical, thermal and even chemical mediators such as histamines which are part of our body s immune response (HowStuffWorks). • 15. Lab Report Hydrated Magnesium Sulfate hydrated magnesium sulfate. Background: According to George B. Kauffman of Britannica, a hydrate is any compound containing water in the form of H2O molecules, usually, but not always, with a definite content of water by weight. Within this, there are two aspects of the compound; the water of hydration and the anhydrous salt. When a hydrate is heated, the water of hydration leaves the compound as vapor due to the unsteady bonds between the water and salt molecules. The anhydrous salt ends up becoming the only piece that is leftover. From the two, the percent water in a hydrate and the mass of the salt can be determined from the loss of the water of hydration. As a result, the formula of the compound can be found because the masses of the salt and the water can be used to determine the mole ratio, which are both small, whole numbers. The Importance Of Tourism In Hong Kong Hong Kong has been commonly constructed as and known to both tourists as a thoroughly metropolitan city, of which its modern architecture, especially with its densely populated skyline around the Victoria Harbour, and boisterous and fast paced lifestyle involving non stop eating and shopping take centre stage as a few of Hong Kong s many selling points (Choi, Chan Wu, p 364). Much of Hong Kong s status as an economic success could be attributed to its harbour. After Hong Kong was ceded to the British after the First Opium war with the Chinese Qing dynasty in 1842, the island, which was previously a sleepy collection of fishing villages (Choi, 2007, p.8), became one of Britain s most important trading ports for spices and tea from China (p. 9). The development of Hong Kong under British colonial rule has undoubtedly influenced the character of Hong Kong as a tourist destination, with many of its promoted sites, such as the tramways on Hong Kong Island, the Peak tram up Victoria Peak, and the Star Ferry all being historical modes of public transportation still operating today. This tour will focus on the Star Ferry, exploring its symbolic importance to Hong Kong identity and how past and contemporary events that have occurred in the physical area of the Star Ferry Pier where the ferry operates from have been discursively co opted into, and representative of a greater contestation of hegemonic ideologies surrounding Hong Kong s identity, as part of an opposition ... The screaming shows how he is challenging Voldemort and demonstrating his bravery and credibility towards the concerned audience. This tone is an effective rhetorical strategy since it basically shows the speaker s emotions and his ability to pass on these emotions towards the audience. By doing so, Neville is able to successfully motivate the audience and make sure that they all are involved in killing Lord Voldemort. Furthermore, Neville also uses an authoritative tone, showing that he is not afraid of Voldemort, and ultimately proving that his life is not worthy in comparison of any of the lives that he has taken from Neville s group of friends. This specific tone is appropriate for the occasion because it was right after Harry s death, which made all of the audience vulnerable, and making Voldemort feel like he had essentially won the war he had been fighting. Immigration is a topic which divides political parties and general debate. Whilst some people see the positives of immigration, such as the filling of skill gaps in low and highly skilled jobs, others see the negatives of immigration, such as the strain on services such as the NHS, schools and housing. Firstly, there are clear benefits to immigration. Different communities have moved to Great Britain from as early as 250AD, such as the Indian, Irish, African and Jewish communities. Immigration has a long history. However, high levels of immigration started during the period of 1946 1948. This was around the end of the second world war, when there were labour shortages in Britain and the rest of Europe. The government had to look for immigrants to fill these shortage gaps. In particular157,000 Polish citizens allowed to settle in the UK partly because of ties and connections made during the war years. Genres are categories based on the story of the film, sometimes the actors and actresses, or even the directors. All films fall under a genre or sub genre category. Romantic Comedy is an example of a genre which is light hearted, humorous story involving people in love, sometimes overlapping with subgenres such as screwball comedy teen comedy, or gross out comedy. It will take a better look at the specific conventions of this genre and how this movie fits the gangster genre. Romantic comedy films create a comic climate through a series of cues to the audience: subject matter is treated as trivial, jokes and physical humor make fun of events, and characters are protected from harm (Grindon Leger (2015). Allowing someone to choose when to die, in the face of intolerable pain, is seen by South Australian Voluntary Euthanasia Society (SAVES) as the most dignified and compassionate remedy to end suffering (South Australian Voluntary Euthanasia Society 1995). Therefore, present legislation allowing patients to refuse treatment does not help them to die with any dignity. 5.2 Life Support The cost of healthcare has risen dramatically and shows every sign of continuing to do so (Australian Psychological Society n.d.). The Australian Psychological Society claim that for many, the improper use of life support systems to temporary lengthen life, without any improvement in the quality of life, can be used as a good argument for euthanasia (Australian Psychological Society n.d.). Medical policy and hospital practice means decisions are already being made about who qualifies for life support. This implies an already covert practice of euthanasia (Chaney 2001). The children that survived did so because they were hidden in homes, basements and convents or lived with Christian families who concealed their identities. By the end of the war six million Jews had been killed in one way or another inside and outside concentration camps across Europe. Never in human history had so many been killed because of who they were. Beowulf is the protagonist in the adventure and has a clearly defined counterpart: Grendel; the evil entity. They are put against each other numerous times as a representation of how there will be a never ending quarrel between good and evil. This can be compared to a specifically recent event: the Las Vegas terror attack. Though this may only be one event, the threat of terror attacks has been a constant concern; the Las Vegas, only being more severe and recent. Romeo and Juliet as Christ Figures Introduction and Modern Interpretations Modern audiences have been reintroduced to William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet largely through modern film reinterpretations of the play. Many of these films, most notably Baz Luhrmann s 1996 version of Romeo and Juliet and John Madden s 1998 Shakespeare in Love, have focused on the tragic destiny of these two star crossed lovers . Seemingly, it is the destiny of Romeo and Juliet to commit suicide because they are not allowed to love each other. It s the kind of dramatic story that makes teenage hearts swoon: pure love, passionate love, forbidden love. And while the passionate romance of young Capulet and young Montague is essential to the play, it is by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Romeo and Juliet are tragic, but not for their ill begotten love. Rather, they are tragic for their roles as martyrs, sacrificing themselves to make peace between their feuding families. This sacrifice motif plays to a much more adult audience, taking these two young characters out of the sole possession of young audiences. Thomas Otway s Caius Marius; Love in a Time of Civil War The sacrifice of Romeo and Juliet can be better understood by first entering through the back door. Caius Marius, written by Thomas Otway was first performed in England in the fall of 1679 and subsequently published a year later (Murray 49). This loosely based version of Romeo and Juliet was the only exposure that the contemporary theatergoer would have had to the Romeo and Juliet story. The viewer of this particular version of Romeo and Juliet recognized it through the author s own concession, as Otway freely admits he has rifled him [Shakespeare] of half a Play (Prologue). Otway s version is set in classical Rome, and rather than feuding families, Otway gives us two candidates for the position of Roman Emperor. The reader is immediately exposed to political strife; there are two factions, each led respectively by Caius Marius Sr. and Metellus. The connection to Romeo and Juliet is clear; Caius Marius represents the Montague clan while Metellus is the Roman version of Capulet. The obvious similarities between Caius Marius and the original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
