Darwin Skin Color
Darwin knew that skin color was one of the most important ways in which people varied. And he
was somewhat interested in the pattern of skin color. He knew that darkly pigmented individuals
were found close to the equator (closer to the Sun s UVA UVB); lightly pigmented individuals,
like himself, were found closer to the poles (further from the Sun s harmful radiation). UVB rays
(burning) are absorbed by the epidermis skin layer, and UVA rays (aging and wrinkling) are
absorbed by the dermis skin layer. Darwin rejected the idea that humanskin pigmentation was
related to the climate, even though he missed that there was a fundamental relationship between the
intensity of ultraviolet radiation and skin pigmentation; skin pigmentation itself

What Is The Theme Of Bartleby The Scrivener
Analyzing Bartleby the scrivener
Throughout the short story, Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville, the author magnifies
certain themes by using the actions and reactions of the main characters. By using the themes:
alienation, man s desire to avoid conflict, and man s desire to keep a free conscience, the author
conveys a mood of compassion and sympathy towards all people, even lawyers. In today s
society, to many, it seems as if people do not treat others with as much compassion as they should.
However, there are some examples of comparisons between today s society and text evidence found
in Bartleby the Scrivener that prove compassion to be present. Beside the estimated 150 year time
frame, these examples display that the themes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Devices such as diversionary tactics, like a turtle in it s shell or the elephant in the room . In
Bartleby the Scrivener, the lawyer uses some of these said tactics to avoid conflict with
Bartleby. The lawyer does not want to anger Bartleby enough to where he will stop working. He
refrains from doing so because of how well Bartleby does his job. In the beginning of the story,
the lawyer is somewhat tough on Bartleby when he tells the lawyer that he d prefer not to do his
work because he just wants Bartleby to do what is asked of him when it is asked. But in
conclusion, the lawyer feels that if he wants to reach Bartleby, it is required that he is gentle. In
today s society, we could compare the devices shown in Melville s short story to actions of the
general public. Many people today are afraid of confronting conflict simply because of they do not
wish to create a scene or they are worried of other s opinions on their

Phoenix Community Development
Urban areas are usually grown upwards, but things did not seem to go that way for the city of
Phoenix. Phoenix has done nothing but expand thanks to the much endless desert space they are
surrounded by. Many suburban areas where created around Phoenix due to large amount of
family homes built. Along with all of the development and amount of time, Phoenix is actually
now surrounded by 24 smaller cities. A large amount of ecosystems where destroyed in order to
build a lot of single family homes and a lot of streets. A big reason for the Phoenix region
growing outwards rather than upwards is mostly due to land being priced very cheap and allowing
larger margins of profits because homes are not build until they have all been completely purchased
by the customers. A great example of how the cityof Phoenix is expanding right now is the
community named Anthem. It is a community in which people don t really ever need to go out of
their community because it has everything in it. In such community there is nothing but single
family homes with many wide streets. It is sort of a resort style living, for it has many things in the
community such as a golf course, many pools and parks, and many fun things to do... Show more

Due expansion, people tend to live much farther from places so this has created a heavy use of
cars for the citizens of Phoenix. This great use of vehicles and building of homes creates a lot of
pollution for the environment and kills off many natural systems. Also geographically Phoenix
lives far away from resources which then means they need to be delivered miles to Phoenix.
Another main concern that has gotten Phoenix attention is water. Phoenix main water source is
the Colorado river. Water is a limited resource but Phoenix seems to be growing at an
uncontrollable rate while water is not so sooner or later if they continue growing at this rate they
will need to find an alternative for

Ephany In The Destructors
Henry Graham Greene wrote many stories that express epiphany that brings one to realize a
powerful truth. Greene continues this theme into his short story The Destructors as he expresses
his view of the instability of post World War II in England. The boys in the story have lost their
innocence having forced to give up their childhood to the bombings and destruction of war. The
boys reflect the trauma England experienced in the war and the drastic changes made after the
war. Forced to give up their childhood and innocence, the boys turn to causing mischief in town,
along with destroying a specific house. This house in The Destructors, symbolizes England after
World War II. The house represents post war England as it is described as the... Show more content

Similar to after the war, the younger generations did not feel connected to the past as did the
older generation. The new leader of the gang, T., shares his desire to destroy the house that has
stayed still among many fallen homes in the community. Although T. directly states he doesn t
hate Mr. Thomas, he blatantly disrespects Mr. Thomas by destroying his money and destroying
his beautiful house. T states the money they find will be burned, We aren t thieves, he says to
Blackie as they finish their destruction of the house (94). T. doesn t want to steal the money for
his own benefit or destroy the house for fun, he wants to destroy any hope for the older man. As
Mr. Thomas climbs over the garden fence to help the boys he says, Been a boy myself. As long
as things are done regular, (97). Mr. Thomas is old and does things by tradition or by the book,
unlike the gang who decides to bypass the rules of common courtesy and make their own choices
as children. The boys actions are similar to how the opposing side of England in the war as the
younger generation came to into power, they wanted more power and went against the treaties

A Brief Note On The Internal Revenue Service
The Internal Revenue Service is trying to preserve and protect the availability, confidentiality,
integrity, authentication, authorization and security controls of all employees and also the
taxpayers. In the context of IRS information security, availability is generally expressed as the
amount of time users can use a system, application and data, where user refers employees and
taxpayers. Integrity refers the validity and accuracy of data. For IRS, data and information are
intellectual property assets. Unauthorized changes can undermine the data s values which be a
serious threat to an organizations. Similarly, confidentiality protecting information from everyone
except those with rights to it. IRS is making online communication with users and employees in

Essay On Latino American Discrimination
Latino American Discrimination Have you ever given mind to why it is important for us as
human beings to protect one another and to share the same rights we have. Furthermore,
receiving fair share of pay in jobs or labor from working the same hours as to a white or black
person. Finally, to feel that as human beings that have the right to live away of their countries
without being segregated, discriminated or even ignored from public needs. Well, in this paper I
will talk about the whole process of the discrimination and some of my personal experiences with
the topic. Latin culture is a growing number in the U.S.A. from the past to our modern era. Most of
the U.S.A. is inhabited by Latino families, such as, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Costa Ricans, and
Mexicans. Over seventeen percent of people living in the United Statesare Hispanic and Latin based
families. These families are found in all states, but mainly reside in Florida, Texas, Arizona, or
even New Mexico. However, there is a slight problem in our modern day life and it is
discrimination of Hispanics and Latino Americans. Hispanic families and Latino families are
sometimes distinguished just from their facial features, Spanish accent and... Show more content on

Hispanics in the U.S. Therefore, I expect that this paper has inspired at least some of you to take
action and stop this discrimination toward my fellow Latinos by demanding Latino American
civil rights from the White House as so did Martin Luther King Jr. Also try to spread the word of
the problem and try to fix it. Lastly, think of the role you would want to follow in this motion just

The Nuns Priest s Tale
The Nun s Priest s Tale is an allegory that uses animals with human characteristics in order to
portray the moral of the story. The story centers on a rooster named Chanticleer, who possesses
many human qualities, such as speaking, singing, and the ability to dream. Partlet, a hen, is
described as polite, discreet, debonair, and companionable (153). These are characteristics not
typically associated with animals, which strengthens the message that the animals are representative
of humans. Furthermore, Chanticleer and the other animals display humanemotions, such as
Chanticleer s fear of his dream, Partlet s disgust of Chanticleer s fear, and the love that Chanticleer
and Partlet feel for one another. Furthermore, the fox, Sir Russell, also... Show more content on

This moral is illustrated by the events of the tale; Sir Russell flatters Chanticleer by
complimenting his singing, and he tells him to sing with his eyes closed. Chanticleer is very
flattered by this and does what Sir Russell says, allowing Sir Russell to grab Chanticleer and
bring him to the woods. After Chanticleer escapes, Sir Russell tries to trick him once more, but
Chanticleer has learned his lesson, stating I will curse myself . . . if you trick me once more.
Never again shall you with your flattery get me to sing with my eyes closed, (164). Chanticleer
singing with his eyes closed is representative of the ways in which humans can be fooled and
deceived when faced with flattery. The moral of the tale is reinforced by these events, again
demonstrating how the story of the animals is representative of human nature. Moreover, within the
main story, there is a discussion of other stories, including different perspectives on the importance
of dreams. Though Partlet believes that there is nothing but vanity in dreams (154), Chanticleer
explains how this is untrue, and in the process, he discusses two other stories he knows that
reinforce his belief that dreams are significant of joy as well as of trouble (156). The inclusion of
these stories reaffirms the depiction of the animals as having human qualities, as Chanticleer and
Partlet discuss the importance of dreams in an intellectual style. This also reinforces the tale as
more than just a story about animals, but rather an important tale about human

Does Your Spouse Have Alzheimer s? Don t Postpone Dental Care
If your spouse was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease, you have many things to think
about, so it s easy to overlook dental care. Dental problems such as toothaches and gum disease
can become very complicated when your loved one advances into the later stages of the disease.
Therefore, you should get started on a dental care plan while your spouse is still able to cooperate.
Here are some tips for dealing with Alzheimer s disease and dental problems.
Make A Dental Appointment Soon
Your spouse should be seen by a dentist before symptoms of Alzheimer s become advanced.

A toothache may contribute to aggressive behavior. It can also interfere with eating and cause
your spouse to lose weight. If your loved one is not able to communicate well enough to let you
know what s wrong, he or she will have to suffer needlessly. You ll want to continue regular dental
visits as long as possible and follow the advice of your dentist on how to keep your spouse s mouth
healthy.
Supervise Dental Care
Your spouse s teeth may be in good shape now, but they could deteriorate quickly as the disease
advances. That s because your loved one will lose the ability to clean his or her teeth well. Also,
changes in diet may contribute to tooth decay, especially if you have to entice your spouse to eat
with soft, sugary foods.
For that reason, you need to keep dental health in mind and make sure your spouse continues with
good oral hygiene. Initially, you ll want to supervise and encourage your spouse to brush. You may
need to provide step by step instructions to help the process along. Eventually, you may need to
take over dental care and brush your spouse s teeth or clean dentures yourself.

Difference Between Good Guy And Bad Guy
Bad Guy vs Good Guy
Hey Babes, so before I begin I want to thank you for taking part of Inside Life and helping me
choose out this topic!
I m actually super excited to do this topic because I feel like sometimes us as woman or even
men settle for what we think we deserve rather then what we actually deserve and that mainly
has to do with what type of significant other you are associating yourself with! Sometimes we as
woman or men tend to not know the difference between a bad guy and a good guy or we do but
we stick around in hopes they d change! Sometimes we as people tend to attract to our opposite
self! Sometimes we as people get comfortable to who we are with that everything that s being
said and done you get so accustomed to that lifestyle, whether good or bad you don t know what
s right or wrong. Mainly the question is do you know if your significant other is a bad guy or
good guy or what s the difference between the both and whose better ?
So let s begin with them bad guys. Some Women believe that behind every bad guy there s a good,
sensitive, loving and caring man which is true but stubbornness and pride get in the way and they
will never get anywhere in the long run.
Usually Men like this tend to tell women what they want to hear, they are selfish and if doesn t
benefit them they get bored and move on! Men like this Can be authoritative, they tend to belittle
there significant other to make them feel more powerful! Men like this won t motivate you, won t

Literary Devices In Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening
Winds, snow, and darkness oh my! A traveler and his noble steed find themselves on a quest deep
in the woods on the darkest snow filled night and thus stopping to take it all in. An analysis on
the Poem by Robert Frost, called Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening . What was the desire
of the exhausted traveler to stop and appreciate the woods that seemed so irresistible? Although his
horse questions his judgment, and the traveler s hidden promise to keep at the end of his
destination, he stops to take in the scenery. With the output given the traveler s journey is not over
when stated that he has miles to go before he sleeps even though he s tired he takes this moment to
reboot his energy in the night air, making his quest about the journey and then about his previous
engagement. The rest of this essay will express the literary devicesand themes featured in this poem.
This poem grabbed my attention because I was engaged while reading it the whole time, with
the imagery helping to make a perfect scene in my head. Every line gave another piece to the
overall scene and perspective. Each time I have re read this poem I find something different and
a new meaning to each line or a new literary device used. While reading how dark, cold and big
the woods are I never felt like they were dangerous, maybe a little foreboding at times, but instead
the feeling of the traveler and his horse were welcomed there by the similarities to the place and
that the blanket of snow wrapping

The Omo Site Of Ethiopia, Africa
In this research paper we will be discussing the Omo site in Ethiopia, Africa. Some key points
that will be discussed will be its original discovery in 1967, it s addition research that was
completed in 2005, Omo I and II s updated age (McDougall et al., 2005), and the scientific
importance of the discoveries from this site and what it means for idea of the first appearance of the
modern human(Fleagle et al., 2008).
In 1967 in the Lower Omo Valley near Kibish, Ethiopia along the Omo river, a team from the
Kenya National Museums, led by Richard Leakey an anthropologist and conservationist, did an
initial exploration which led to the discovery of several stone tools, hominin fossils, and various
other skull fossils of mammals. In this expedition the team found parts of what would be known
as Omo I and Omo II. The finds for Omo I comprised of the mandible, dentition, several parts of
the cranium, and a considerable portion of the post cranial skeleton. Omo I s finds has been
described as being a modern skeleton of Homo sapiens. Omo II comprised of an almost intact
neurocranium, which has been described as primitive remains most closely resembling Homo
erectus (Fleagle et al. 2008). At that time in 1967, researches faced a difficult time establishing an
accurate age of these remains due in part to the confines of technology. The team at this time
decided to use a rather controversial method that looked at radiometric dates on shells from a Nile

Advantages Of Hijab
Hijab (head scarf)
Hijab is a piece of material that mostly Muslim women wear on their heads to hide their hair and
beauty from the public. the wearing of head scarf varies from person to person, it can be as extreme
as hide all of the hair, face, eyes forehead, ears, neck and upper part of the breasts, or as casual as
just cover the back of the head or as people say in Kurdistan they are just hiding their hair clip .
Within the Muslim society there are two sides on the wearing of Hijab. The first side is the pro
Hijab side; this side is divided into two other parts, the women who wear it to practice their
religion and the women who are forced to wear the Hijab. The second side is Muslim women

can be used for selecting language for query submission. The way the query is fired leads into two
types of search Cross language information retrievaland Multi language information retrieval. In
cross language retrieval the user query is machine translated into multiple language queries

Different Models Of Diagnosis And Treatment
Throughout the course of history, medical practitioners have utilized different models of diagnosis
and treatment which have encompassed a variety of factors. For instance, the biomedical model
was used for decades as the primary way to diagnose and treat illness; this model focused on effects
of anatomical, biochemical, and neurophysiological irregularities. However, since this model failed
to integrate the importance of the social, psychological, and behavioral components, the
biopsychosocial model was later adopted so that it could be consistent with the general system
theory, which states that systems affect one another, causing changes in one system to impact
others. Additionally, through the biopsychosocial model, there is a clear... Show more content on

Online Child Sexual Abuse Is The Case Of Michael Dean Ross
Introduction
There is an issue with the evolution of technology and how it is implemented for online child
sexual abuse that needs to be addressed. Traditionally, offenders would be limited to what they
were able to do with a limitation in resources as a specific pool of potential victims. However,
technology has opened up new avenues and resources that offenders can use. Online child sexual
abuse is a prominent issue as technology is allowing offenders more access to material, better
ways to remain hidden, and access to victims that may not have originally been available. One
recent example of how technology can be used for the sexual abuse of children is the case of
Michael Dean Ross.
Online child sexual abuse would be classified as a cybercrime as the crime involved a computer and
a network, where a computer may or may not have played an instrumental part in the commission
of the crime (Moore, 4). Cybercrimes are generally consists of computer related activities that are
considered illegal and be conducted throughout the global electronic network (Choi, 3). There is a
range of illegal activities that are arising concerning this cybercrime, including solicitation and the
creation and distribution of child pornography (Seto). The Internet is becoming a popular avenue
where 61% of offenders in a study used only the Internet to commit crimes against children
(Mitchell, 54). The primary methods that the Internet was utilized were seduction/grooming, child

The Federal Common Law Interpretation
Many of the sources agree that tribal governments should have assumed or inherent adjudicatory
power over non members on tribal land. Indeed, most sources repeat the same arguments with
different justifications. There is a major focus on the history of tribal sovereignty and which is
important to in how it impacts the impending decision in Dollar General v. Mississippi Band of
Choctaw. Several sources focus on Native American tribe s status, as domestic dependent nations
are a major part of how the federal government continues to shrink tribal jurisdiction over non
members on tribal land.
Furthermore, many scholars are questioning the definition of domestic dependent nation the unique
and often confusing legal situation of the Native American tribes. This status leaves states in a
similar situation as states but with a shrinking amount of limited sovereignty. Some claim this is the
federal common law interpretation s failure and that a constitutional approach is necessary to solve
the problems with tribal jurisdiction. These arguments hope that clarity and defined parameters of
jurisdiction will establish a new concrete definition of tribal jurisdiction. Other sources just propose
to continue to follow the common law understanding of tribal jurisdiction with an understanding
that tribes have inherent authority. Although this recognizes the sovereignty of tribes it falls to
recognize the failure of federal common law to come to a consensus on the parameters of this power.

What Does The Chrysanthemums Symbolism
The story The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck, like many stories by this author, is loaded with
symbolism and concepts about human nature. Each description of characters, places, and physical
aspects is written in a way that is simple to understand, but one should not be tricked by his ordinary
words since there is always a greater meaning behind them. In this particular story, if one considers
the period of time when the story was written, which was the nineteen thirties, is perceived how
Steinbeck presents the readers with an uncommon matter that not many writers wrote about. That
matter, being, the topic of women and their sexuality, which is the main focus of the story, in a time
when a womans life is dominated by men and as a consequence, many women are deprived of their
personal, social and sexual fulfillment. These deprivations in a woman s life are illustrated within
the descriptions and events that occur around the primary symbol in this story, the flower
chrysanthemum, which as the story advances, reveals itself to symbolize Elisa s femininity, her
fulfillment as a woman and even her.
Elisa s masculine descriptions such as her face being lean and strong, her body being blocked and
heavy, and the man s black hat that she is wearing, which in a way, they hide the feminine side of

healthcare professionals want to do the right thing, but could not understand doing it in a right
way. This situation gives rise to an ethical dilemma. The term ethics represents the moral value

consider personal well being but also that of others. Thus, ethical behavior is the most appropriate

Reflective Role As A Senior Support Worker
My role as senior support worker is to work alongside management to provide an effective
service to vulnerable adults with mental health living in the community; it is important to offer
professional leadership and positive team work skills. At the beginning of my employment as a
senior support worker in mental health there was minimal knowledge and experience in
supporting vulnerable adults within this specific area, however CQC fundamental standards
which everyone in health and social care can expect remain transferable. Please find attached an
example of how the remaining 12 fundamental standards have also been expressed throughout
my experience as senior support worker whilst evidence is shown on a day to day basis. As my
previous role was a team leader it was essential that the skills learnt previously were carried into
my new role and enhanced to be able to provide the best service possible. Person centred care is
vital to providing support to suit an individual s needs; I have implemented this when doing the into
care plans, I sat with citizens to go through their support package which can increase the
understanding of a citizens involvement in their support so that their needs are met; additionally as

I ve always wanted to be a ballerina. It was my childhood dream; a little girl s vision. To imagine

English language learners tend to fall behind their peers due to the inability to read or understand

It is important to not provide additional verbal instruction between the staircase steps because the
students are English learners who may not understand the various vocabulary words used while
giving the extra instructions. If more explanation is given it can increase the difficulty for Els
because it imposes additional language demands and it can distract them from the phonological
focus that they are supposed to be learning (Gerbert etal 2006). It is hard enough for them to
understand what is being ask of them and giving them extra instructions will just confuse them. It
is important to use rapid pace, explicit and concise questions, and to use enthusiastic praise
immediately after a child responds because the students who are struggling are falling behind
their peers, using a fast paced can lead them to catch up within a short time frame. By using a fast
pace approach students have less time of being distracted, it keeps them focus on the material. To
be explicit and concise the teacher fist needs to model the activity he/she wants the students to do,
for struggling readers they need to be taught first of what they need to do to learn the material
(Richards Leafstedt 2009). By demonstrating to the students what the teacher is asking for they get
an idea of what is expected from them. Once the teacher demonstrates the correct way to do it,

Law Enforcement and It s Budget Process
LEA 432
William Forbes
October 7, 2012
Law Enforcement and it s Budget Process The economic downturn of the past several years has
been devastating to local economies and, by extension, their local law enforcement agencies.
According to a report by the National Institute of Justice, the United States is currently
experiencing the 10th economic decline since World War II (Wiseman 2011). The impact of this
downturn will result in a change of how law enforcement services are delivered. As has been

The paper therefore recommends zero based budgeting to Nigeria at all levels (GJSS, 2012).
Sometimes inefficiencies result due to poor integration of the finance and strategy. Budgeting and
performance are typically overseen by the finance department, whereas planning s coordinated by
strategy department. Often, the two processes aren t well integrated, resulting in strategies that are
often dictated by the budget process instead of vice versa (Gary 2003). The reason for this could
be that everyone involved may be attempting to accomplish the same goals, but also trying to make
sure that the outcome will be beneficial to them, such as a substantial bonus or a reward. A budget
cycle refers to the whole process from the commencement of developing a budget to the execution
of the final charge on the budget. Since the majority of the budgets are prepared for a one year
period, budget cycles cover the costs and expenditures for a period of one year. However, there
are budget cycles that run for more than one year period. Government budgets have a budget cycle
of at least 18 months from the conception of the various departments budgets to the time the
appropriation bills are signed into law (Hyde, 2001). The initial steps of the budget cycle take place

Causes Of The California Gold Rush
In history whenever there is an event that can benefit or change the course of someone s life for
the better, people try to come and join the cause. This is what happened in the California and
Colorado Gold Rush. The Colorado and California Gold Rush during the 1800s brought thousands
of people to the west in search of gold. Although many people tried to strike it rich, the Native
Americans suffered disruption to their lands. The gold rushhelped keep the fire sparked between
the Native Americans and the colonizers. While the gold rush did help bring the east and west
together and boost the economy. The first gold rush that happened in the United States was in
California. This was in 1849 when a man named James Marshall found gold while he was
building a sawmill on his property. After this speck of gold was found the word spread around
California. Once the word was through California and other people started finding gold the news
got to the 11th U.S. president, James Polk. James then sparked the gold rush by announcing that
gold was being found in California without a problem, You ll find it anywhere you dig down there.
. One year earlier Mexico gave up the California territory at the end the of the Mexican American
War. The sudden change of land ownership caused conflict between the Mexican Americans and the

The Levels of Power that Environmental Non-Governmental...
Non governmental organisations (NGOs) and advocates have become a significant part of

outsiders.
Environmental NGOs seek to pursue insider strategies by joining government delegations as
advisors or pursue outsider strategies as either activists or lobbyists inside the negotiation venue
(Rietig, 2011). The inside approach consists of NGOs trying to gain an influence with governments
and negotiators by providing policy solutions and expert advice and engaging in knowledge
construction, producing research based reports and paper (Andresen and Gulbrandsen, 2003). Many
US based NGOs adopt this strategy. The outsider approach will consist of NGOs putting pressure on
governments, negotiators and target groups through direct actions, protesting, boycotts and even
civil disobedience. The goal of the outsider approach is to make companies and countries more
flexible in international negotiations by impacting on public opinion, with the aim of driving
governments to comply with international commitments, whilst negatively exposing polluters and
environmentally harmful corporations for particular topics (Andresen and Gulbrandsen, 2003).
According to Stafford and Polonsky (2000) Environmental NGO s are increasingly beginning to
favour cooperation rather than traditional protest and confrontation to encourage environmentally
sensitive procedures. The insider outsider strategy will vary amongst NGO s, although major ones
are most likely to pursue a duel strategy (Andresen and Gulbrandsen, 2003).

Well, don t break into the money before I get back. (Jacobs, 5) In the short story The Monkey s

People always want what the do not have. For instance, in the story the family uses their first wish

sad, but they got the money that they wanted. They were given the exact amount of money that
they wanted, but their grief was unimaginable. The worst part, they caused their son s death, it was

The Theme Of Blindness And Blindness In Oedipus King Rex
Sophocles is one of the three ancient Greek tragedians and the most celebrated one. He competed
in numerous dramatic competitions and he was never judged lower than second place. He was a
prolific writer, he is said to have written more than 123 plays of which only seven survive. One of
these seven is OedipusKing Rex in which he explores not only the theme of self identity but the
theme of blindness as well. Both these themes greatly influenced the play s main character, King
Oedipus.
One of the most important themes in Oedipus is the theme of blindness. Not only physical
blindness but also intellectual blindness. The play explores the concept that even a person than can
physically see can be blinded to the truth (be ignorant) and one that is physically blind can actually
possess the insight and knowledge to see and understand things. According to Ancient History
Encyclopedia Oedipus is mistaken (blind) in the interpretation of events and only when tragedy
results, which in fact, is all too late, he recognizes truth (name).
Throughout the play Sophocles uses the idea of sight as a metaphor for knowledge. Ironically we
are confronted with the fact that although Oedipus is physically able to see he cannot see or does
not know that the prophecy already came true. In the other hand, prophet Tiresias who is physically
blind, is able to see the truth.
When Oedipus was just a baby his biological mother send him away to die in order to prevent the
prophecy from happening. The servant who was instructed to kill the baby felt sorry for him
and disobeyed. Instead of leaving him to die he took him to another city where he was adopted.
Oedipus was never told of this adoption and he believed his adopted parents were his biological
parents, this is the first time that he actually became blind or ignorant of the truth. When he grew
older he was told of the prophecy and in an attempt to stop it from becoming true, he decides to
leave his town. On his journey, he meets a group of travelers, feeling harassed by them he ends
up killing them except for one . One of the travelers was his own father. It is here where he fails to
see that he has just fulfilled the prophecy.
After this he continues his journey into Thebes,

America consumes more than it produces. With the deficit unable to be scaled down and the
current economic activities continue, this will drive more businesses to outsource more jobs in a
vicious circle. Without consumers in America to purchase products, companies will start to look
elsewhere in order to remain in business. This could lead to companies selling more products
overseas in order to continue to remain profitable and placing more strain on the U.S. economy. A
struggling economy will impact real estate since businesses and home owners cannot afford
mortgages.
Outsourcing jobs will directly affect local vacancies in office space and industrial settings.
Without new buildings for new businesses, new construction will decline and possibly for
workers in these fields to search for jobs overseas and again add to the already growing strain on
the U.S. economy. Some smaller businesses such as restaurants and clothing stores rely on bigger
companies to draw in consumers to their locations. These blue collar jobs will begin to decline or
even disappear

Analysis Of Concrete Angel By Martina Mcbride
Most audiences view music as a form of entertainment only, so society tends to overlook the
messages behind the music. Some artists use music to promote their beliefs or inform their listeners
about unnoticed issues. Music can spread awareness about misfortunes in the world, and Martina
McBride uses her celebrity status to promote her own concerns about child abuse. In 2002, Martina
McBriderecorded a song titled Concrete Angel to spread awareness about child abuse. Her song
addresses the general population, consisting of bystanders, because most people are aware of
tragedies such as child abuse, but they ignore the problem. Through emotional appeals,
characterization, imagery, and foreshadowing, Concrete Angel illustrates the story of a young
girl s abuse in order to call the bystanders to awareness of the societal problem. Throughout the
song, the story creates emotional appeal with the use of bystanders. The bystander mentioned in
verse two is, The teacher wonders, but she doesn t ask/ It s hard to see the pain behind the mask
(lines 5 6). The teacher s reaction is a common experience for many adults because most adults
assume the child is not abused if he or she appears okay. Another bystander mentioned is,
Somebody cries in the middle of the night/ The neighbors hear, but they turn out the light (15 16).
Since the bystander ignores her plea for help, the audience develops sympathy for her because the
girl is helpless. Sympathy is the main objective of these lyrics, and if the audience has compassion
for the young girl, they might take action instead of being bystanders. Through emotional appeals,
the underlying message of these lyrics attempts to persuade the listeners not to be complacent as
bystanders. The artist uses music to evoke people s emotion because most people listen and relate
to music. The article Martina McBride Finds Additional Voices to Express Herself Ahead of Show
in North Myrtle Beach mentions, Raising awareness, she [Martina McBride] said, makes you feel
something as an individual to make a difference, and we all appreciate that (Palisin). When
bystanders take action, they can prevent an abusive situation and raise more awareness. Concrete
Angel characterizes the

Persuasive Narrative Essay
It was my last memory from my class at Meadowbrook, the school s right of passage at the end
of the 8th grade year: ziplining in Costa Rica. I felt my stomach tighten as I took a step up to the
first platform, took one last deep breath, and jumped. The violent, Costa Rican air whipped
around me, spinning my body in a circle like a helicopter blade. I tirelessly squeezed the
handlebar with the rough, sandpaper gloves like my life depended on it. Ironically, at the time, I
thought it did. I was mortified. After helplessly spinning around for about a minute, I crashed
into the end of the line and nervously unhooked my harness. One down, seven to go. The next
line began similarly to the first one. I leaped off the platform hesitantly, but the wind had died
down and I was able to relax. I gazed across the seemingly endless lush, green landscapes of the
Costa Rican mountain ranges in awe. Still choke holding the handlebar, I was not comfortable
in the slightest. I left the third platform just a second quicker feeling slightly more secure in the
harness. This time, I released the handlebar, leaving my doubts and worries behind. I was about
as content as I could possibly be given the circumstances, dangling thousands of feet up in the air
in the mountains, supported by a jaded wooden rope an inch in diameter. Two summers ago, I
trotted onto the 18th green, up one stroke in the tournament. It felt incredible, all my hard work
was finally going to pay off. I had a 2 foot putt with no break, a putt I could make a million times
over in my sleep. I placed my hands onto my putter as they gradually started to shake and
tremble. I felt my stomach tighten as I realized this gimme putt was nothing I could have ever
prepared for. I was ready to get my first tournament win. My hands still wavering, I brought the
putter straight back and through. It felt like an eternity as my ball inched closer and closer toward
the hole. But instead of reveling in the clink as the ball hit the bottom of the hole, the ball took a
left hand turn, hit the edge of the cup, and settled a measly inch or two from the hole. I tapped in
and walked away, devastated that I had just lost the tournament. It was as if my countless hours of
preparation had

Snow By Julia Alvarez Summary
Snow Activity In the Snow by Julia Alvarez, Yolando, an immigrant, describes the world around
her during a time of war. She notes that the English words that she is picks up or learns at school
are all related to war. She is fascinated yet scared with her surroundings. My first impression
Yolando s experience is similar to an Asian immigrant just arriving to the United States trying to
transition to their new home . Even though I can t relate to her in the aspect of living in a time of
war, I do relate to her about curiosity about the her new environment. After reading the story, I
thought that life during that time was difficult and crazy. Throughout the story, Julia Alvarez uses
vivid imagery and similes to convey Yolando s experience

He knew that darkly pigmented individuals were found close to the equator (closer to the Sun s UVA UVB); lightly pigmented individuals, like himself, were found closer to the poles (further from the Sun s harmful radiation). UVB rays (burning) are absorbed by the epidermis skin layer, and UVA rays (aging and wrinkling) are absorbed by the dermis skin layer. Darwin rejected the idea that humanskin pigmentation was related to the climate, even though he missed that there was a fundamental relationship between the intensity of ultraviolet radiation and skin pigmentation; skin pigmentation itself ... What Is The Theme Of Bartleby The Scrivener Analyzing Bartleby the scrivener Throughout the short story, Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville, the author magnifies certain themes by using the actions and reactions of the main characters. By using the themes: alienation, man s desire to avoid conflict, and man s desire to keep a free conscience, the author conveys a mood of compassion and sympathy towards all people, even lawyers. In today s society, to many, it seems as if people do not treat others with as much compassion as they should. Phoenix has done nothing but expand thanks to the much endless desert space they are surrounded by. Many suburban areas where created around Phoenix due to large amount of family homes built. Along with all of the development and amount of time, Phoenix is actually now surrounded by 24 smaller cities. A large amount of ecosystems where destroyed in order to build a lot of single family homes and a lot of streets. A big reason for the Phoenix region growing outwards rather than upwards is mostly due to land being priced very cheap and allowing larger margins of profits because homes are not build until they have all been completely purchased by the customers. A great example of how the cityof Phoenix is expanding right now is the community named Anthem. It is a community in which people don t really ever need to go out of their community because it has everything in it. The boys reflect the trauma England experienced in the war and the drastic changes made after the war. • 8. The Nuns Priest s Tale The Nun s Priest s Tale is an allegory that uses animals with human characteristics in order to portray the moral of the story. The story centers on a rooster named Chanticleer, who possesses many human qualities, such as speaking, singing, and the ability to dream. Partlet, a hen, is described as polite, discreet, debonair, and companionable (153). These are characteristics not typically associated with animals, which strengthens the message that the animals are representative of humans. Furthermore, Chanticleer and the other animals display humanemotions, such as Chanticleer s fear of his dream, Partlet s disgust of Chanticleer s fear, and the love that Chanticleer and Partlet feel for one another. After Chanticleer escapes, Sir Russell tries to trick him once more, but Chanticleer has learned his lesson, stating I will curse myself . . . if you trick me once more. Never again shall you with your flattery get me to sing with my eyes closed, (164). Chanticleer singing with his eyes closed is representative of the ways in which humans can be fooled and deceived when faced with flattery. The moral of the tale is reinforced by these events, again demonstrating how the story of the animals is representative of human nature. Moreover, within the main story, there is a discussion of other stories, including different perspectives on the importance of dreams. Though Partlet believes that there is nothing but vanity in dreams (154), Chanticleer explains how this is untrue, and in the process, he discusses two other stories he knows that reinforce his belief that dreams are significant of joy as well as of trouble (156). The inclusion of these stories reaffirms the depiction of the animals as having human qualities, as Chanticleer and Partlet discuss the importance of dreams in an intellectual style. This also reinforces the tale as more than just a story about animals, but rather an important tale about human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This status leaves states in a similar situation as states but with a shrinking amount of limited sovereignty. Some claim this is the federal common law interpretation s failure and that a constitutional approach is necessary to solve the problems with tribal jurisdiction. These arguments hope that clarity and defined parameters of jurisdiction will establish a new concrete definition of tribal jurisdiction. Other sources just propose to continue to follow the common law understanding of tribal jurisdiction with an understanding that tribes have inherent authority. • 40. The Theme Of Blindness And Blindness In Oedipus King Rex Sophocles is one of the three ancient Greek tragedians and the most celebrated one. He competed in numerous dramatic competitions and he was never judged lower than second place. He was a prolific writer, he is said to have written more than 123 plays of which only seven survive. One of these seven is OedipusKing Rex in which he explores not only the theme of self identity but the theme of blindness as well. Both these themes greatly influenced the play s main character, King Oedipus. One of the most important themes in Oedipus is the theme of blindness. Not only physical blindness but also intellectual blindness. The play explores the concept that even a person than can physically see can be blinded to the truth (be ignorant) and one that is physically blind can actually possess the insight and knowledge to see and understand things. According to Ancient History Encyclopedia Oedipus is mistaken (blind) in the interpretation of events and only when tragedy results, which in fact, is all too late, he recognizes truth (name). Throughout the play Sophocles uses the idea of sight as a metaphor for knowledge. Ironically we are confronted with the fact that although Oedipus is physically able to see he cannot see or does not know that the prophecy already came true. In the other hand, prophet Tiresias who is physically blind, is able to see the truth. When Oedipus was just a baby his biological mother send him away to die in order to prevent the prophecy from happening. The servant who was instructed to kill the baby felt sorry for him and disobeyed. Instead of leaving him to die he took him to another city where he was adopted. Oedipus was never told of this adoption and he believed his adopted parents were his biological parents, this is the first time that he actually became blind or ignorant of the truth. When he grew older he was told of the prophecy and in an attempt to stop it from becoming true, he decides to leave his town. • 43. Analysis Of Concrete Angel By Martina Mcbride Most audiences view music as a form of entertainment only, so society tends to overlook the messages behind the music. Some artists use music to promote their beliefs or inform their listeners about unnoticed issues. Music can spread awareness about misfortunes in the world, and Martina McBride uses her celebrity status to promote her own concerns about child abuse. In 2002, Martina McBriderecorded a song titled Concrete Angel to spread awareness about child abuse. Her song addresses the general population, consisting of bystanders, because most people are aware of tragedies such as child abuse, but they ignore the problem. Through emotional appeals, characterization, imagery, and foreshadowing, Concrete Angel illustrates the story of a young girl s abuse in order to call the bystanders to awareness of the societal problem. Throughout the song, the story creates emotional appeal with the use of bystanders. The bystander mentioned in verse two is, The teacher wonders, but she doesn t ask/ It s hard to see the pain behind the mask (lines 5 6). The teacher s reaction is a common experience for many adults because most adults assume the child is not abused if he or she appears okay. Another bystander mentioned is, Somebody cries in the middle of the night/ The neighbors hear, but they turn out the light (15 16). Since the bystander ignores her plea for help, the audience develops sympathy for her because the girl is helpless. Sympathy is the main objective of these lyrics, and if the audience has compassion for the young girl, they might take action instead of being bystanders. Through emotional appeals, the underlying message of these lyrics attempts to persuade the listeners not to be complacent as bystanders. The artist uses music to evoke people s emotion because most people listen and relate to music. • 44. Persuasive Narrative Essay It was my last memory from my class at Meadowbrook, the school s right of passage at the end of the 8th grade year: ziplining in Costa Rica. I felt my stomach tighten as I took a step up to the first platform, took one last deep breath, and jumped. The violent, Costa Rican air whipped around me, spinning my body in a circle like a helicopter blade. I tirelessly squeezed the handlebar with the rough, sandpaper gloves like my life depended on it. Ironically, at the time, I thought it did. I was mortified. After helplessly spinning around for about a minute, I crashed into the end of the line and nervously unhooked my harness. One down, seven to go. The next line began similarly to the first one. I leaped off the platform hesitantly, but the wind had died down and I was able to relax. I gazed across the seemingly endless lush, green landscapes of the Costa Rican mountain ranges in awe. Still choke holding the handlebar, I was not comfortable in the slightest. I left the third platform just a second quicker feeling slightly more secure in the harness. This time, I released the handlebar, leaving my doubts and worries behind. I was about as content as I could possibly be given the circumstances, dangling thousands of feet up in the air in the mountains, supported by a jaded wooden rope an inch in diameter. Two summers ago, I trotted onto the 18th green, up one stroke in the tournament. It felt incredible, all my hard work was finally going to pay off. I had a 2 foot putt with no break, a putt I could make a million times over in my sleep. I placed my hands onto my putter as they gradually started to shake and tremble. I felt my stomach tighten as I realized this gimme putt was nothing I could have ever prepared for. I was ready to get my first tournament win. My hands still wavering, I brought the putter straight back and through. It felt like an eternity as my ball inched closer and closer toward the hole. But instead of reveling in the clink as the ball hit the bottom of the hole, the ball took a left hand turn, hit the edge of the cup, and settled a measly inch or two from the hole. I tapped in and walked away, devastated that I had just lost the tournament. It was as if my countless hours of preparation had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Snow By Julia Alvarez Summary Snow Activity In the Snow by Julia Alvarez, Yolando, an immigrant, describes the world around her during a time of war. She notes that the English words that she is picks up or learns at school are all related to war. She is fascinated yet scared with her surroundings. My first impression Yolando s experience is similar to an Asian immigrant just arriving to the United States trying to transition to their new home . Even though I can t relate to her in the aspect of living in a time of war, I do relate to her about curiosity about the her new environment. After reading the story, I thought that life during that time was difficult and crazy. Throughout the story, Julia Alvarez uses vivid imagery and similes to convey Yolando s experience ...
