Plagiarism And The Substance And Context Of Academic...
This paper reviews journal articles on plagiarism and explores the substance and context of academic
dishonesty, including self plagiarism, the nature of plagiarism and how it is perceived by students and
faculty. Moreover, how serious of a problem plagiarism really is and why students feel it necessary to
cheat. It researches the challenges presented by the huge quantity of information available over the
internet. This report also reviews faculty views on academic dishonesty and the many disagreements
surrounding what constitutes blatant plagiarism versus unintentional cheating. Also, which
disciplinary actions are in the highest degree appropriate. It is concluded that plagiarism is an ongoing
problem. Students cheat for many reasons, from lack of knowledge to laziness. It is likewise found
that faculty may share the same laze fair attitude as students when they rely on software alone to
investigate plagiarism. Surprisingly, some may choose not to evaluate or address the topic altogether
or even to assess what their pupils know so that they may prepare accordingly. This report will provide
suggestions to teach students how to avoid plagiarism. It will also propose constructive strategies for
the prevention of piracy to include education along with faculty and student accountability. Keywords:

Hydrogen Peroxide Lab Report
Testing the Effects of Temperature on the Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide with the Enzyme
Catalase
Purpose Question and Background Information:
What are the effects of different temperatures on the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide with the
Enzyme Catalase. Different enzymes work best at different optimal temperatures, and with this
experiment we hope to discover which temperatures are unideal for Catalase. The substrate is H2O2
which binds to the active site of the enzyme Catalase. The reaction in question is as written below:
Hydrogen Peroxide + Catalase Water + Oxygen
(Catalase is not consumed in the reaction)
This question is important to understand because Catalase plays a vital role in the sustenance of cells
and tissues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

temperature.
6) When a test tube reaches its labelled temperature, remove it from the water bath.
7) Add 2 drops of soap to the removed test tube, and place it in the test tube holder.
8) Add 5ml of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide to the test tube and start a stopwatch.
9) Record the height of the bubbles in a table every minute until the stopwatch reaches 5 minutes.
10) Repeat steps 6 9 as for every test tube as it reaches its desired temperature.

Why Is Boo Important In To Kill A Mockingbird
Throughout To Kill a Mockingbird Boo Radley is thought of by everyone in town as crazy and creepy.
Boo Has gotten into a lot of trouble in the past. He was charged by the police for grand theft auto and
also stabbed his dad in the leg with a pair of scissors. This doesn t mean that he deserves to spend the
rest of his life locked up inside of his house though. Boo is like a mockingbird kind, not seen, and
quiet. Tom Robinson is also like a mockingbird, quiet, honest, and kind. Which one more resembles a
mockingbird Boo or Tom? Boo was kind like a mockingbird in many different ways. One of those
ways was when Boo started putting stuff in the tree for Scout and Jem(Lee 44). This is important
because it gives Scout and Jem the idea that Boo is actually kind and that he wants to be friends. The
reason he put stuff in the tree is because he wanted people to think that he is kind to children. All of
the stuff that Boo put in the tree is friendly stuff that kids might want or like to play with. Another
example of this was when Boo found Jem s pants. Boo cleaned them, folded them, and put them back
on the fence. (Lee 71). This is important because it shows Scout and Jem that Boo does not want to
hurt them and that he does not care that they are messing with them, he just wants to be friends. These
are both examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom would always go over to Mayella Ewell s house and help her out with whatever needed to be
done(Lee 256). Also he never talks badly about anyone, or even yells at anyone while he is in court.
Both Tom Robinson and Boo are kind to other people and respects them. It seems as though Boo is
more kind than Tom Robinson. Boo had more examples from the book that proved he was kind. Tom
robinson only had a few. Tom Robinson does not have as many appearances in the book as Boo does,
that can also be a factor of why Boo is kinder. All in all they are both kind people and do not cause

Theme Of Selfishness In Fairy Tales
Fairytales often have hidden advice within the story. For example, some illustrate a hidden agenda that
people are willing to do things, even if it is at the cost of others. A masked message is found in the
fairy tale Hansel and Gretel; in Hansel and Gretel the stepmother convinced the father that they should
take their children into the woods and leave them there to fend for themselves in order to have more
food for the stepmother and father, she even says the children must go (144). The stepmother had no
regrets towards leaving the children on their own in the woods to die, as long as it meant she would
have more food to eat. When the father questioned the idea and said he would feel bad doing it the
stepmother responds, You fool! and continues by insisting if they continue to live as a family of four
they will all starve (142). This form of selfishness could result from the fact that the stepmother and
the children do not have a close and loving relationship. The decision of selfishness depends on the
bond with the people who surround you.
Cinderella all the various versions that have been created over the years also illustrates the idea of a
strained relationship that gives results into selfishness. The common theme of each version is ... Show

The idea of A Modest Proposal is there are many families that are too poor to afford enough food for
their families so Jonathan Swift comes up with an idea to improve the country s growing population
and decreasing food supply; his proposal was they should start using the newborn children for food to
feed the nation. Instead of the country working towards producing more food they will turn into
cannibals. He came up with his idea in order to save his own life from the future famine. Swift sees
nothing wrong with his idea of eating babies because he has no relation to any of the babies that would

How The Wii U Nintendo s Profits
How the Wii U affected Nintendo s Profits When talking about gaming, there has always been one
name that stands above the rest, Nintendo. Nintendo Co., Ltd. was first founded September 23rd,
1889, and based out of Kyoto, Japan, where they produced and marketed playing cards. In 1977 the
company released its first video game system, Color TV Game, which is considered a first generation
video gaming system, eight generations later and the Wii U was born. The newest Nintendo system,
Wii U, had a fairly rough start: launching in November 2012, costing $350. There were many setbacks
in its early stages, which the company had to overcome; despite two years of massive financial loss,
due to lack of popular game titles, poor marketing, and various other setbacks, the system is just now
beginning to show promise for Nintendo s future. The Wii U was the first system to launch of the
newest generation of gaming, with its competitors, Microsoft and Sony, releasing their systems almost
exactly one year later in November 2013. According to the article, What the Hell is wrong with the
Wii U?, Kohler writes, Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp. each sold more game consoles in 24 hours
than the Wii U maker did in nine months ... [Nintendo] sold just 460,000 Wii U machines in the six
months ended Sept. 30, about 5 percent of its target for the fiscal year (par. 2). When we compare the
Wii U s sales to its competitors, Microsoft s Xbox One and Sony s Playstation 4, which each sold a

Classical Art Vs Renaissance Art
issance art has reflected the work of classical art in many ways but there are also things that the artists
of the renaissance period have decided to defer from including in their work. Some examples of things
that the renaissance artist have carried over from classical Greece and Rome include the use of
contrapposto in their work, the mathematical fundamentals in their designs, and the focus on the
anatomical structure of the human figure. Despite all these similarities there are also a few differences
these include the lack of pagan representation in their art, the ideal beauty created in the high
renaissance and the discovery of linear perspective. When looking at a renaissance piece it can be
fairly easy to see the connection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most recognizable difference is the lack of pagan representation in the art. Similar to
renaissance art Greek and Roman art is still very religiously based, but the only difference is that one
religion is Christian and the other is pagan. This creates a very different subject matter for the two
types of art which despite looking very similar make them very different. The next different between
the classical and renaissance art periods are the the creation of ideal beauty. Throughout the time of
classical art and the first three renaissance periods everything looked perfect, but when you achieved
perfection how were you supposed to go up from there? Di Vinci answered that question and in turn
developed the high renaissance movement. He makes figures look beyond beautiful and furthers them
to look perfect. This is a style that makes the high renaissance period stand out and in turn makes it so
much more different with the classical art period. The last major difference between the renaissance
and the classical period is the use of linear perspective in renaissance art. Classical rendering was near
perfect due to the level of skill of the artists but not quite there yet, they were missing one this and that
way a formula known as linear perspective. Once that equation was figured out in the renaissance
period artists were able to create perfect architectural renderings defining this new age of

Charles And Medgar Evers Summary
From the colonial era in America to present day, there has always been black resistance whether it s
just by revolting by not doing work or armed self defense.
Cobb illustrates that armed self defense as a form of black resistance. Cobb talks about a personal
experience of his in which he refers to how the Mayor of Ruleville, Mississippi actually held Cobb
and two of his friends at gunpoint, barking, You African Americans get into the car! (23). And when
asked why, Dorrough yelled, Because this pistol says to! (23). This part of the book shows that even
though that his friends and Cobb were just being non violent, they almost got killed by the Ruleville s
mayor.
Cobb shows that one of the earliest restrictions placed upon peoples of African descent came in the
form of laws that made it illegal for any black person, free or enslaved, to own a gun. And he reminds
us that fears of slave insurrections remained a constant feature of slavery. Cobb considers the Civil
War a watershed moment because it provided African American soldiers with the opportunity to fight
courageously and use guns to wound and kill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Army after the end of World War II. Their dissatisfaction with the treatment of blacks in the South led
to major acts of resistance, such as attempting registering to vote, and these actions eventually led
Amize Moore, Medgar Evers, and other World War II veterans to become civil rights leaders in the
decades following the war (91). This portion of the book leads back to Cobb s arguments on violence
during the movement because the chapter shows how Evers story led numerous WWII veterans to
become leaders in the CRM and even show their defiance such as James Stephenson and Jackie
Robinson did on a personal level, instead of organized political actions or events

Black Soldiers In The Haitian Revolution
The enslaved Africans of Saint Domingue had an unwavering desire for freedom. They burnt cane
fields and refineries in order to destroy the system that had held them captive. John K. Thornton
believes that the contribution of African soldiers was the main reason for the success of the Haitian
Revolution. In his article, African Soldiers in the Haitian Revolution , he noted that, the rebellious
slaves of Haiti inflicted grievous military defeat on all who opposed them. The majority of the
enslaved persons in Saint Domingue were not simply just agricultural workers, but from whence they
came, they were soldiers, merchants and even kings. The African born enslaved persons, who made up
the majority of the masses, were able to use their prior military experience to assist them in their
victory and some even participated in the Congolese wars. They were skilled in Guerilla Warfare
which they used to defeat all the forces which they fought. Thornton noted, from an eye witness
account, that when the ex enslaved persons engaged in battle they never massed in the open or waited
in line to charge. And these tactics made them appear to be six times as numerous than they were.
Thornton stated that if persons view the enslaved people of Haiti as people with strong militaristic
backgrounds and not just agricultural labourers, the question as to what was the main reason for the
success of Haitian Revolution may be answered.
Throughout the revolution there was an abundance of

Don Imus Is Decidedly Cute And Catchy
The jingle is decidedly cute and catchy, both annoying and familiar. You know the tune: one eight
seven seven kars 4 kids. Don Imus was caught ranting about it in 2010 as it played during a
commercial break on his radio show. Radio duo Opie and Anthony echoed the sentiment, saying that
the commercial goes right into your very soul. The opening segment to a December 2014 Saturday
Night Live segment parodying the United States Military torture report joked the earworm was created
by the same psychologists who developed the torture techniques and wondered whether the charity
helps the kids or the cars.
The jingle belongs to a national charitable organization that has a presence in every state, as well as
countless billboards, Internet advertisements, and a recently released television commercial (click if
you dare) that puts adorable faces to the sweet voices behind the ditty: four goofy looking kids clad in
80s band style clothes, lip syncing and rocking out on signature pink guitars.
Besides its impeccable branding, the charity blitzes listeners with exciting phrases like maximum tax
deduction, free vacation voucher, and the catchy phrase: donate your car today. But the ads
conveniently leave out how it all works or where the money goes. And while the SNL clip was a joke,
it also raises an obvious question: How exactly do cars go to help kids and which kids? With rare
exceptions, like after Hurricane Sandy, the organization does not issue statements about its

Should Obese People Pay Higher Health Insurance Premiums...
Writing Assignment #3: Should obese people pay higher health insurance premiums than people who
are not obese? Rishard Rheyas Obesity has become a serious problem with more than one third of
adults being obese in the United States. Obesity is seen as a self destructive behavior accompanied
with smoking and use of other drugs thus, government officials and other business bureaucrats
expressed the need to impose higher health insurance premiums on the obese. Obesity is not always
due to the personal behavior of people and can be linked with the environment and genetics; I

David Zinckenko argues in his article don t blame the eater , that it is a matter of personal
responsibility but can sympathize with the obese individuals as there is a lack of alternatives and
information regarding fast food consumption. Society in the United States has raised concern about
healthy diets, providing alternatives sources of food but unfortunately at a cost. The increased cost for
a healthy diet dissuades teenagers from eating healthier food thus without a change of environment it
can result in a lifetime of obesity. David Zinckenko briefly brings in the comparison with the
automobile industry. The automobile insurance is significantly high for most high end vehicles and
also for the younger generation. This is mainly because the higher end vehicles have a certain type of
brand value and reputation as with certain big health insurance companies. The youth are charged
higher automobile insurance as they are more prone to accidents as suggested with smokers and obese
individuals with diseases. The government and other respective officials imposing this would mean
that obesity is termed a disease which would force individuals to try to become thinner. This could
lead to dangerous diseases such as anorexia. The difference is mainly because health insurance has a
closer link to our economy and human life as compared to automobile insurance. Individuals should
be given rights to decide what they would like as with the automobile insurance wherein

J Alfred Prufrock Loneliness
The Pitiful Prufrock of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
T.S. Elliot s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, is a melancholy poem
of one man s frustrated search to find the meaning of his existence. The
speaker s strong use of imagery contributes to the poems theme of communion and
loneliness.
The Poem begins with an invitation from Prufrock to follow him
through his self examination. The imagery of this invitation begins with a
startling simile, Let us go then you and I/ When the evening is spread out

Essay about COL Prescott’s Command in the Battle of...
The award winning novel by Stephen Ambrose, Band of Brothers: Easy Company, 506th Regiment,
101st Airborne from Normandy to Hitler s Eagle s Nest, discusses one of the greatest examples of
mission command in the form of 1st Lieutenant Richard Winters and his role in the Brecourt Manor
Assault. This battle is a textbook example of how to fight against a superior enemy force that
outnumbered the unit by four times as much. Facing overwhelming odds with just 16 paratroopers

objective while minimizing casualties to just three Soldiers lost. Looking back further into the

COL Prescott s understanding of operational variables (PMESII PT) and mission variables (METT
TC) contributes to his mission command effectiveness. In Battles of the Revolutionary War (Wood),
COL Prescott demonstrates his grasp of these variables by determining the British forces strength, the
morale condition of his own men and the effective location from which his orders say defend. The
6000 British soldiers training and equipment outstrip the colonists in every aspect. To deny the British
from seizing Dorchester Heights, COL Prescott s understanding of the current situation gave way to
his effective planning that was effective in his visualization of the defense mission. COL Prescott s
tactical mind shows that the British would overwhelm the colonists through sheer force alone. The
novel Patriot Battles: How the War of Independence was Fought (Stephenson, page 211) describes the
end state that COL Prescott works to achieve was to hold off the British forces through a stealthy
defense fortification of Breed s Hill, rather than Bunker Hill. The decision for going against higher
orders reflects on COL Prescott s tactical ingenuity as Breed s Hill was closer to the waters and the
colonists could mount a more effective defense and to keep the pressure on the

Samuel Colton Invented The First Rotating Barrel Revolver
Samuel Colton invented the first rotating barrel revolver, later called Peacemaker, in 1835. He then
started mass producing it and supplying it to the armed forces as well as the common people, who
benefited greatly from its reliability, portability and quick firing rate. This gun was the one used by the
legendary cowboys and was the one with which they gained enormous amounts of glory. Ever since
then, the Peacemaker has shaped American history in numerous ways and came to embody all the
values like individualism, freedom and power that America stood for. The Colt revolvers, later called
the Peacemakers, that were invented in the 19th century shaped American history not only by giving
the U.S. armed forces and the Union army the upper hand and the power to subdue their enemies in
monumental battles, but also by instilling in the people a strong sense of individualism and the
mentality of the manifest destiny. To begin with, before the 1830s, the only guns that were available to
the public and the military were the muskets and rifles, and primitive pistols. The muskets and rifles
were very large in size, took a long amount of time to reload and were difficult to aim. Even though
they might have been effective when used in large numbers at the frontline of the battlefields due to
the heavy concentration of bullets they produced and since great accuracy was not required, they were
not as practical or useful to the general public as their slow reload time and difficulty to

Recruitment Proposal For Senior Level Talent

SUBJECT: Recruitment and Staffing Proposal for Senior Level Talent As requested during our last
meeting, you shared with me your personal desire and HSS s need to establish a new recruitment and
selection process for employing senior level staff. Below I have provided a few of the top options that
the organization can easily put in place for the use of recruiting and selection new senior level staff.
Recruitment Methods Recruiting suitable candidates that are able to adequately handle and manage

2. Recruiters. For organizations that do not have the time or the resources to find suitable candidates,
they hire headhunters and recruiting companies to do the searching for them. These headhunters and
recruiters hunt down the best individuals in their particular fields, having thoroughly researched their
complete background, including their experience and accomplishments, and basically sell these
individuals to the appropriate organization. (Sutton, 2009) These companies also certify the candidates
they recommend, providing a money back guarantee if an organization is not completely satisfied after
a specific period of time.
3. Gamification. Gamification is the use of gaming principles and design in non gaming situations and
identifies potential employees by posing virtual challenges that require the skills necessary for a given
job. Gamification is effective because it can test a skill set, associate the company with something
people enjoy and produce a virtual feel for the culture of a particular workplace.
Selection Methods Selecting suitable candidates for senior level positions of the organization is also
an essential undertaking. There are several considerations an organization must take into an account
about a candidate before hiring them.
1. Credentials Assessment. It is very important to know what experience and skillset a candidate
brings with

Yamashita s Tropic of Orange Essay
Yamashita s Tropic of Orange
This paper studies Yamashita s Tropic of Orange as a magical realist text and examines the
implications for such a style on the notion of the urban. Specifically, I will explore how Yamashita
uses magical realism to collapse boundaries and socially transform Los Angeles into an embattled
utopia for the disenfranchised. First, however, magical realism is a loaded term and some definitions
are in order. In addition to important recent innovations in the form and its purposes, magical realism
is in dialogue with a longer history of writing, including the epic, chivalric traditions, Greek pastoral,
medieval dream visions, romantic traditions and Gothic fictions, all of which contribute a fantastic
strain to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magical realism also functions ideologically but...less hegemonically, for its program is not
centralizing but eccentric: it creates space for interactions of diversity. In magical realist texts,
ontological disruption serves the purpose of political and cultural disruption: magic is often given as a
cultural corrective, requiring readers to scrutinize accepted realistic conventions of causality,
materiality, motivation. (3)
This definition highlights the two dominant markers of the form: the use of fantasy and the counter
hegemonic disruption of cultural and social realities. Fantasy can imagine justice into the reality of an
unjust world, which is why it has been so useful in postcolonial contexts and has interesting
possibilities for metropolitan life. Yamashita s novel fits squarely in this tradition, and I suggest she
leverages the form to imaginatively transform Los Angeles from a plethora of racially, socially and
economically distinct and, at times, antagonistic neighborhoods connected yet separated by freeways
and bound within the borders of the U.S., to an embattled yet impossibly and transnationally
interconnected utopian urbanity located literally on the freeway. Conventions of causality and
materiality are regularly violated as the city physically and socially changes shape, congregating and
collapsing distinct worlds, nations and cultures into one metropolis. Under the spell of magical
realism, Yamashita s Los Angeles becomes a

Raoul Hausmann s Influence In Three Selected Art Works
The following are three selected art works demonstrate this influence.
In the photomontage Der Kunstkritiker or The Art Critic (1919 20) Raoul Hausmann distorts and
disproportions the human form through deconstruction to have a simultaneously insulting and
humorous effect on his viewers.
Hausmann was an Austrian artist who adhered to strict expressionistic styles until introduced to
Dadaism, an unrealistic artistic and literary movement of many different mediums occurring from
1916 to 1924. Hausmann became one of the founding members of Dada in Berlin; a style which
centres on the mockery of materialistic and nationalistic attitudes formed in World War 1. Its
influences include other avant garde movements such as Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism, and
Expressionism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In The Penal Colony Summary
The Officer in In the Penal Colony Franz Kafka s short story In the Penal Colony explores the
identities and beliefs of the characters without ever explicitly giving them names or points to reference
them by other than their titles. This allows us to really delve into who the characters are, and allows us
to add the concept of who the character is to things we see in history, daily life, or other characters.
Kafka uses the character of the Officer to show the poisonous ways of staying in old times, without
adapting to new changes in society, and also shows the pitfalls that come with building a life off of the
suffering and misery of others. Franz Kafka s use of the Officer shows how people can be so involved,
almost obsessed with a certain way of doing things that they cannot really function in a different
setting. The Officer is an executioner in a penal colony, with a rather brutal sense of punishment. He is
happy to execute people who committed relatively minor offences. Right from the start, we can see
how much the Officer loves his profession and the apparatus . He enjoys taking part in jobs which
could have been left to a mechanic (Kafka 1), but carried them out with great enthusiasm, maybe
because he was particularly fond of this apparatus (Kafka 1). The Officer takes extreme pride in
maintaining his apparatus, even though the job could be given to someone of a much lower status and
occupation. The reader will conclude that he doesn t want anyone else to

Coco Chanel Research Paper
Coco Chanel is one of the most famous fashion designers in Paris, France. Even though she has passed
away her legacy still lives on today. She left behind the tight corset trend for comfortable masculine

The Main Forces That Transitioned Europe Toward Modernity
Ngo
Humanities 4314
Midterm: October 12, 2014
Isser Woloch suggests that the key forces that transitioned Europe toward modernity are associated
with four different developments which coincided with and reinforced each other in final decades of
the eighteenth century: (1) rising population; (2) increased agricultural productivity; (3) a vast increase
in commerce, particularly in the exploitation of their colonies by Britain and France; and (4) the
expansion of textile manufacturing and the beginnings of its structural transformation in England
(113).
Population Growth
Prior to the Europe s sustained growth, Europe struggled as far as keeping growth steady flowing;
with that being said, as growth of population would reach its exponential, the population would
shortly reach a downfall. The result of contagious diseases, crop failure, and the aftermath of war such
as the Thirty Years War had altogether been the cause of a depopulated community.
The fluctuation of population may be seen when one looks at the sixteenth century and the
seventeenth century; for example, sixteenth century Europe had a rise in population while seventeenth
century Europe suffered a significant decline in numbers for population. Europe s population suffered
a downfall when the prices of grain and flour had risen following the law of supply and demand;
facing the wraths of high prices and short supply, people would soon become undernourished and
starving, possibly trying to fend off hunger by

The Global Distribution of Economic Activity Cuased by...
Globalization is currently a very hot topic and many people have an awful lot to say about the matter,
creating different theories and points of view. A definition of globalization could be, The
straightforward exchange between core and peripheral areas based upon a broad division of labour, is

production processes and their geographical relocation on a global scale in ways which slice through
national boundaries. (Dicken 98). When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst the top 10% of GDP earners receive approximately 100 times more than the bottom 10%, at
that lower end of the spectrum 2.8bn people live on less than $2 per day, and 1.1bn live in poverty at
less than $1 per day. This figure living in poverty has fallen by around 400mn over the past 20 years
which isn t a huge number in the grand scheme of things, however when this is looked at in terms of
proportion of the population the amount of people living in poverty has more than halved. This decline
in people living on less than a dollar a day doesn t necessarily mean that we now live in a more
globalized economy. The main reason for this decline is due to the meteoric rise of China into the
world trade network, along with Mexico and India, this kind of measure of poverty as a marker for
economic activity can be hazed by the integration of these three economies alone. It can not be
overlooked however and is definitely seen as a positive effect on the distribution of world economic
activity. In terms of income per capita, the average income in the richest 20 countries is 37 times that
in the poorest 20 a ratio that has doubled in the past 40 years. This would insinuate that the extremes

Papal Basilica Of Saint Francis Of Assisi Analysis
In 1228, the construction of the Papal Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, Italy started and was
completed in 1253. This lavish church was home to many Catholic Italians starting in the 13th century.
During this time, the majority of rural villagers were common folks who were farmers, herders, and
crafters. To these common villagers who participated in church services on a regular basis, the church
signified many things. To these villagers, the church was intimidating, powerful, and the center of
their social life. The Papal Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi was one of many medieval parish
churches in Europe, and the church was probably a large part of almost every villager s life. Like
mentioned earlier, the majority of people in medieval, rural Italy had common jobs that did not result
in much wealth. Medieval Catholic churches were bigger and grander than anything villagers could

the church in the community was a symbol for how God and the church should be the center of
everyone s lives, and it was also the most convent spot to put it in for easy access to church. Social

of employee recognition, pay, and benefits on job satisfaction to employees in USA, Malaysi, and

all groups concurred that pay, benefits, and recognition are vital in improving job satisfaction of
employees. The results solidify the hypothesis that pay is integral to job satisfaction in all of the three
countries despite varying cultures. It is important to take note that this study also revealed that non
monetary benefits also play a big part in an employee s job satisfaction. Hence, it is concluded that

Corruption of British Rule and Imperialism: The killing of an Elephant Shooting an Elephant explores
the parallels between Britain s imperialism and a British officer s moral quandary with killing an
elephant. Orwell s use of political critique is not lost in Shooting an Elephant. George Orwell s distrust
and dislike of British rule is a common theme in most of his works like 1984 and Animal Farm, and is
the hidden main idea of the Shooting an Elephant. By using themes of tyranny and conscience and
symbols like the elephant Orwell conveys his contempt for Britain and imperialism as a whole.
Shooting an Elephant takes place in 1920 s Burma which is now known as Myanmar. At this time
Burma had lost a sixty year fight with Britain and was under British rule. The Burmese people and the
British officers that keep them in line are in a constant state of tension with each other. George Orwell
was a British soldier in Burma from 1922 to 1927 (Kozak 64) much like the main character of this
essay. Shooting an Elephant is written in first person, and in this way, the essay can be seen as an
autobiography. Orwell has long been known for is distrust of government, and uses this distrust in his
writings. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell conveys the life of a British soldier in Burma and the
struggle of obtaining power from a source that is hated. In many of Orwell s writings his distaste for
government is accompanied by a fondness for the lower class. The soldier in Shooting an Elephant

Jon Krakauer uses foreshadowing many times in the book, especially when closing out chapters just

magical realism. By using magical realism, she shows the expressions that Tita the main character has

when they had ate the cake Tita made for Pedro and Rosaura s wedding. Esquivel states but the
weeping was just the first symptom of a strange intoxication an acute attack of pain and frustration
that seized the guests and scattered them across the patio and the grounds and in the bathrooms, all of
them wailing over lost love (pg.39). These symptoms the guest had were all he feelings Tita had inside
her when making the cake, they were being transmitted to them. Further on Lam states while Tita was
preparing it, she was frustrated, sad, an angry about the wedding. Her sister was marrying her love of
her life and she was crushed. This scene represents the power of Tita s emotions and how she can
negatively affect others through her cooking . Her emotions tell a lot in this novel and makes us feel

Fast Fashion On The Fashion Industry
The popularity of cheap and fashionable clothing has been on the rise since the introduction of fast
fashion to major clothing companies. The fashion world has become one of the dominating parts of
consumer culture. However, the affordable clothing movement, in addition to the fast paced garment
work, has affected more than just our wallets. Advancement of new practices and clothing availability
have contributed to many garment factories and businesses for clothing manufacturing. Nonetheless, it
has led to influences in cultures, environments, and societies within many developing countries.
Inadequate working conditions, low wages, pollution and furthering regulatory practices have resulted
from the fast fashion movement.

Although fast fashion is a modern concept, the garment industry is one of the oldest and largest
sources of export in many countries. It contains a vast number of workers, and in many developing
countries, the clothing industry is the single largest employer of citizens. Employed women and men
work to produce the variety of clothing sold in countries such as America. Despite the substantial
employment in factories, many garment workers are often informally employed and home based thus
invisible and rarely represented in national statistics (WIEGO). Many of the women who work in this
field must work based on uncertain and rushed production and receive little pay, benefits or vacation.
In countries such as Bangkok, garment employees earn on average daily about 845 baht (approx. US )
for a seven hour day (WIEGO). Practices such as low wages and unstable conditions lead to a
disposable way of employing workers, and most factories or employers ignore demands for pay raises
or transparency. For instance, the Cambodian government is competing with the constant demands of
fast fashion companies and their manufacturers. Increasing expenses of living for the citizens have
made working in the garment industry more difficult. The employees of clothing factories have
experienced increased wages, but the workload has grown. Some laborers produce more

Blue Collar Brilliance Analysis

My college professor asked our class one day, What is the first thing that comes to your mind when
you think of intellectualism? My immediate response consisted of text books, school, and multiple
hours of studying. However, after reading a few articles covering different viewpoints on
intellectualism, I had a change of thought. Intellectualism within schools, and society today falls under
one category: the book smarts. Many people think others are intelligent because of their degrees, good
paying jobs, or the level of education they ve received. However, these are not the only contributing
factors which lead to intelligence. The two articles, Hidden Intellectualism by Gerald Graff, and Blue

This way of teaching may seem like the easiest, most efficient route, but it is not necessarily the most
practical. Based on Gerald Graff s personal experiences, he has come to the conclusion that schools
and colleges are missing an opportunity when they do not encourage students to take their
nonacademic interests as objects of academic study, (Graff 270). In other words, schools should start
to focus on more extracurricular activities and sports, and transferring that passion into more scholarly
subjects. Coming from a professor at the University of Chicago, who initially claimed himself to be an
anti intellect, this statement shows the true significance of non educational activities and how they are
equally valuable to other things considered more intellectual. Likewise, many blue collared job
individuals are looked down upon by the eyes of society, due to not valuing non academic work. Blue
collar jobs typically are jobs that consist of any manual labor, these jobs include: Plumbers, servers,
electricians, etc. These jobs tend to be viewed as low class, and unintelligent. On the other hand, jobs
that are not blue collar jobs such as white collar jobs, tend to be more professional and higher class.
This misconception is a problem with society, and is touched upon in Rose s article. Mike Rose s
mother, and uncle both work blue collar jobs, inspiring his dis agreeance in the idea that Intelligence is
closely associated with formal education the type of schooling a person has...and most people seem to

The Quranic And Biblical Story Of Adam And Eve

The Quranic and Biblical Story of Adam and Eve Christianity and Islam are similar in many beliefs
and have many intersecting histories. These beliefs include major points such as a God and ancient
prophets. However, Islam and Christianity vary significantly between their religious written works.
These works are the Bible and the Qur an. The compilation of both in their respective religions
however do point back to God. God being the omnipotent deity in which these religions believe in. It
should be mentioned that although both religions have a God , that does not mean it is the same God.
There are key differences in beliefs, culture and history between the two. These two religions are
considered Abrahamic religions. Therefore they share a similar past and their records talk about
similar topics and events that transpired in the past. To help distinguish some key points of the two
religions, one can compare the works of them, regarding the past. This essay will compare and
contrast the same story of Adam and Eve in the Qur an and Bible and discuss various key points from
both and how that applies to elements of its religion. In the Bible, on the sixth day of creation, God
created all the land animals and humans. God created man in his own image. In the bible he formed

The Bass Player s Role
In a band context, every member of the band has a different role. It is the vocalist s job to deliver the
lyrics to the audience, it is the drummer who conveys the rhythm, and it is the lead guitarist who gets
all the chicks. What does the bass player do? What is the Bass Player s Role? The role of the bass
player is determined based on the type of band that you are in. Depending on who else is playing, their
skill level, and what type of music you are playing, the bass player s role can change dramatically.
Take, for example, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their bass player, Flea, is a dominant part of the band.
His line is often the most recognizable part of a song, and he drives the rhythm and melody. His role is
to help lead the band. In contrast, look at the bass player for the backup band for Jessica Simpson, or
Britney Spears. Who are they? Nobody knows, and that is the role of the bass player. You will very
rarely hear them deviate from a backup role, something that is just there to provide some low end to
the overall mix. So what role do you play in a band? For most bass players, it is going to be a mix
between leading and supporting. Most of the time, you are going to be playing a supporting role, as
that is typically the stereotypical role of the bass player. It is your job to support the other members of
the band so that they can sound even better. How do you do that? The bass player supports the band by
not getting in the way of what others are playing, while

Executive Systems Responsible for Visually Guided Movement
Land (2009) suggests that three executive systems are responsible for visually guided movements,
namely gaze, vision and action, and these are overseen by a fourth system labelled the schema system.
Figure 2.12 is an illustration a particular model that has been developed to explain visually guided
movement in natural environments, so it is relevant to sport.
Figure 2.12 illustrates the relations of the schema, gaze, visual, a from nd motor systems during the
performance of a visually controlled action. (Adapted Land 2009:51 62).
The gaze system, consisting of the frontal eye fields is responsible for locating and fixating (targeting)
task relevant objects. The visual system, located in the occipital lobe and much of the temporal lobe
supplies information to the other two systems, providing feedback as to what is being fixated and
directional guidance to the motor system. In this way the eyes act to gather the information necessary
for successful performance (Land 2009). In line with this thinking it is generally accepted that eye
movements tend to precede motor actions by about one second, this is dependent on the specific task
demands (Land Furneaux 1997, Land 2009).
It has been identified that the first visible response in visually guided action is usually an eye
movement corresponding to the direction and location of some feature important for task execution.
The eyes then fixate and

Political Ideas Stemming from Darwinism
At the turn of the 20th century American citizens were faced with many inequalities and progressivism
emerged as an evolutionary political response. People who considered themselves progressives
championed many different types of changes but the fundamental tenet of any progressive was the
idea that the central role of any government was to improve the quality of life for everyday citizens.
Before progressives became a powerful political force the main political ideas stemmed from
Darwinist views, that is to say that the survival of the fittest was the natural order of life. This
Darwinian way of thinking applied to all aspects of life, social, political, and economic. The reasoning
was that if good was to be done for the common man than it should be done at the behest of private
influence. Progressives needed a strong leader to support their positions and were it not for the
untimely assassination of President McKinley they might have had to wait years longer. President
McKinley s successor, Theodore Roosevelt Jr., was exactly the strong leader that they needed to help
combat the inequalities of the day.
Theodore, or Teddy , was not alone in influencing the growth of progressive influence. Many of the
inequalities would have never been brought to light, and the progressive movement would have been

Hard Times Sissy And Bitzer Analysis
In Dicken s Hard Times two characters Sissy and Bitzer are compared early in the novel. Dickens
comparison is used to further the theme that a person needs both fact and fancy to have a morally
developed personality. Dickens does this by portraying the effects of a life raised on only facts
compared to a life raised on a combination of fancy and facts. Later this comparison continues
showing how much Sissy has improved the lives of others, compared to Bitzer, who has ruined the
lives of others. By having Sissy represent a life of fancy and fact, and Bitzer represents a life solely of
fact than comparing the two Dickens is able to show the reader that facts may be nice to know, but
someone can not only have facts without fancy. This is seen

Humanistic Theory In The Next Karate Kid
In the movie The Next Karate Kid , we are intoduced to Julie a emotional struggling teenager looking
to become her own person after feeling abandoned by her now deceased parents; who died in a fatal
car accident. Mentally becoming a tyrant and a burden to her grandmother is taken on a journey with a
family friend Mr. Miyagi, to set her on the right path by using karate to transform her anger into
something positive.
Julies adventure into learning karate starts after Mr. Miyagi witnesses her avoiding getting hit by a car
by jumping onto it s hood in a tiger jump. This is a form of latent learning. Julie had been previously
taught karate by her father before his passing. Latent learning is described as learning that is hidden or
concealed until motivated or triggered ( Psych Rathus, S.A., pg 127). The sequence of events triggered
her response to avoiding the car. Mr. Miyagi saw this as being a great opportunity to harvest her
aggression, by utilizing a skill to calm her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

capable of being. In Psych , Rathus, S.A., this is decribed as self actulalization. When Julie returns to
school she has become more grounded and less aggressive; even when taunted by the shady high
school faternity known as the Alpha Elite . Julie is somewhat transformed in this phase of the movie as
she has become more gentle; and the monks and Mr. Miyagi take it upon themselves to purchase her a
prom gown. This is the point when Julie recognizes her beauty and feminity. Later that night as she
stands up to the Alpha Elite in a battle she demonstrates her skills leading to another point of self
actulization. She at this point develops self awareness, self confidence, mental focus, and courage.
Bringing her to the heighth of those things she personally saught to accomplish through this venture

Boo Has gotten into a lot of trouble in the past. He was charged by the police for grand theft auto and also stabbed his dad in the leg with a pair of scissors. This doesn t mean that he deserves to spend the rest of his life locked up inside of his house though. Boo is like a mockingbird kind, not seen, and quiet. Tom Robinson is also like a mockingbird, quiet, honest, and kind. Which one more resembles a mockingbird Boo or Tom? Boo was kind like a mockingbird in many different ways. One of those ways was when Boo started putting stuff in the tree for Scout and Jem(Lee 44). This is important because it gives Scout and Jem the idea that Boo is actually kind and that he wants to be friends. The reason he put stuff in the tree is because he wanted people to think that he is kind to children. All of the stuff that Boo put in the tree is friendly stuff that kids might want or like to play with. Another example of this was when Boo found Jem s pants. Boo cleaned them, folded them, and put them back on the fence. (Lee 71). It seems as though Boo is more kind than Tom Robinson. Boo had more examples from the book that proved he was kind. Tom robinson only had a few. • 6. Theme Of Selfishness In Fairy Tales Fairytales often have hidden advice within the story. For example, some illustrate a hidden agenda that people are willing to do things, even if it is at the cost of others. A masked message is found in the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel; in Hansel and Gretel the stepmother convinced the father that they should take their children into the woods and leave them there to fend for themselves in order to have more food for the stepmother and father, she even says the children must go (144). The stepmother had no regrets towards leaving the children on their own in the woods to die, as long as it meant she would have more food to eat. When the father questioned the idea and said he would feel bad doing it the stepmother responds, You fool! and continues by insisting if they continue to live as a family of four they will all starve (142). This form of selfishness could result from the fact that the stepmother and the children do not have a close and loving relationship. The decision of selfishness depends on the bond with the people who surround you. Nintendo Co., Ltd. was first founded September 23rd, 1889, and based out of Kyoto, Japan, where they produced and marketed playing cards. In 1977 the company released its first video game system, Color TV Game, which is considered a first generation video gaming system, eight generations later and the Wii U was born. The newest Nintendo system, Wii U, had a fairly rough start: launching in November 2012, costing $350. There were many setbacks in its early stages, which the company had to overcome; despite two years of massive financial loss, due to lack of popular game titles, poor marketing, and various other setbacks, the system is just now beginning to show promise for Nintendo s future. The Wii U was the first system to launch of the newest generation of gaming, with its competitors, Microsoft and Sony, releasing their systems almost exactly one year later in November 2013. • 8. Classical Art Vs Renaissance Art issance art has reflected the work of classical art in many ways but there are also things that the artists of the renaissance period have decided to defer from including in their work. Some examples of things that the renaissance artist have carried over from classical Greece and Rome include the use of contrapposto in their work, the mathematical fundamentals in their designs, and the focus on the anatomical structure of the human figure. Despite all these similarities there are also a few differences these include the lack of pagan representation in their art, the ideal beauty created in the high renaissance and the discovery of linear perspective. When looking at a renaissance piece it can be fairly easy to see the connection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most recognizable difference is the lack of pagan representation in the art. Similar to renaissance art Greek and Roman art is still very religiously based, but the only difference is that one religion is Christian and the other is pagan. This creates a very different subject matter for the two types of art which despite looking very similar make them very different. The next different between the classical and renaissance art periods are the the creation of ideal beauty. Throughout the time of classical art and the first three renaissance periods everything looked perfect, but when you achieved perfection how were you supposed to go up from there? Di Vinci answered that question and in turn developed the high renaissance movement. He makes figures look beyond beautiful and furthers them to look perfect. This is a style that makes the high renaissance period stand out and in turn makes it so much more different with the classical art period. The last major difference between the renaissance and the classical period is the use of linear perspective in renaissance art. Classical rendering was near perfect due to the level of skill of the artists but not quite there yet, they were missing one this and that way a formula known as linear perspective. Once that equation was figured out in the renaissance period artists were able to create perfect architectural renderings defining this new age of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This part of the book shows that even though that his friends and Cobb were just being non violent, they almost got killed by the Ruleville s mayor. Cobb shows that one of the earliest restrictions placed upon peoples of African descent came in the form of laws that made it illegal for any black person, free or enslaved, to own a gun. They burnt cane fields and refineries in order to destroy the system that had held them captive. John K. Thornton believes that the contribution of African soldiers was the main reason for the success of the Haitian Revolution. In his article, African Soldiers in the Haitian Revolution , he noted that, the rebellious slaves of Haiti inflicted grievous military defeat on all who opposed them. The majority of the enslaved persons in Saint Domingue were not simply just agricultural workers, but from whence they came, they were soldiers, merchants and even kings. The African born enslaved persons, who made up the majority of the masses, were able to use their prior military experience to assist them in their victory and some even participated in the Congolese wars. They were skilled in Guerilla Warfare which they used to defeat all the forces which they fought. Thornton noted, from an eye witness account, that when the ex enslaved persons engaged in battle they never massed in the open or waited in line to charge. And these tactics made them appear to be six times as numerous than they were. Thornton stated that if persons view the enslaved people of Haiti as people with strong militaristic backgrounds and not just agricultural labourers, the question as to what was the main reason for the success of Haitian Revolution may be answered. The increased cost for a healthy diet dissuades teenagers from eating healthier food thus without a change of environment it can result in a lifetime of obesity. David Zinckenko briefly brings in the comparison with the automobile industry. The automobile insurance is significantly high for most high end vehicles and also for the younger generation. This is mainly because the higher end vehicles have a certain type of brand value and reputation as with certain big health insurance companies. The youth are charged higher automobile insurance as they are more prone to accidents as suggested with smokers and obese individuals with diseases. The government and other respective officials imposing this would mean that obesity is termed a disease which would force individuals to try to become thinner. Ever since then, the Peacemaker has shaped American history in numerous ways and came to embody all the values like individualism, freedom and power that America stood for. The Colt revolvers, later called the Peacemakers, that were invented in the 19th century shaped American history not only by giving the U.S. armed forces and the Union army the upper hand and the power to subdue their enemies in monumental battles, but also by instilling in the people a strong sense of individualism and the mentality of the manifest destiny. To begin with, before the 1830s, the only guns that were available to the public and the military were the muskets and rifles, and primitive pistols. The muskets and rifles were very large in size, took a long amount of time to reload and were difficult to aim. First, however, magical realism is a loaded term and some definitions are in order. (3) This definition highlights the two dominant markers of the form: the use of fantasy and the counter hegemonic disruption of cultural and social realities. Fantasy can imagine justice into the reality of an unjust world, which is why it has been so useful in postcolonial contexts and has interesting possibilities for metropolitan life. Yamashita s novel fits squarely in this tradition, and I suggest she leverages the form to imaginatively transform Los Angeles from a plethora of racially, socially and economically distinct and, at times, antagonistic neighborhoods connected yet separated by freeways and bound within the borders of the U.S., to an embattled yet impossibly and transnationally interconnected utopian urbanity located literally on the freeway. In The Penal Colony Summary The Officer in In the Penal Colony Franz Kafka s short story In the Penal Colony explores the identities and beliefs of the characters without ever explicitly giving them names or points to reference them by other than their titles. This allows us to really delve into who the characters are, and allows us to add the concept of who the character is to things we see in history, daily life, or other characters. Kafka uses the character of the Officer to show the poisonous ways of staying in old times, without adapting to new changes in society, and also shows the pitfalls that come with building a life off of the suffering and misery of others. Franz Kafka s use of the Officer shows how people can be so involved, almost obsessed with a certain way of doing things that they cannot really function in a different setting. The Main Forces That Transitioned Europe Toward Modernity Ngo Humanities 4314 Midterm: October 12, 2014 Isser Woloch suggests that the key forces that transitioned Europe toward modernity are associated with four different developments which coincided with and reinforced each other in final decades of the eighteenth century: (1) rising population; (2) increased agricultural productivity; (3) a vast increase in commerce, particularly in the exploitation of their colonies by Britain and France; and (4) the expansion of textile manufacturing and the beginnings of its structural transformation in England (113). Population Growth Prior to the Europe s sustained growth, Europe struggled as far as keeping growth steady flowing; with that being said, as growth of population would reach its exponential, the population would shortly reach a downfall. The result of contagious diseases, crop failure, and the aftermath of war such as the Thirty Years War had altogether been the cause of a depopulated community. The fluctuation of population may be seen when one looks at the sixteenth century and the seventeenth century; for example, sixteenth century Europe had a rise in population while seventeenth century Europe suffered a significant decline in numbers for population. Europe s population suffered a downfall when the prices of grain and flour had risen following the law of supply and demand; facing the wraths of high prices and short supply, people would soon become undernourished and starving, possibly trying to fend off hunger by ... This figure living in poverty has fallen by around 400mn over the past 20 years which isn t a huge number in the grand scheme of things, however when this is looked at in terms of proportion of the population the amount of people living in poverty has more than halved. This decline in people living on less than a dollar a day doesn t necessarily mean that we now live in a more globalized economy. The main reason for this decline is due to the meteoric rise of China into the world trade network, along with Mexico and India, this kind of measure of poverty as a marker for economic activity can be hazed by the integration of these three economies alone. It can not be overlooked however and is definitely seen as a positive effect on the distribution of world economic activity. This lavish church was home to many Catholic Italians starting in the 13th century. During this time, the majority of rural villagers were common folks who were farmers, herders, and crafters. To these common villagers who participated in church services on a regular basis, the church signified many things. To these villagers, the church was intimidating, powerful, and the center of their social life. The Papal Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi was one of many medieval parish churches in Europe, and the church was probably a large part of almost every villager s life. In a study about the relationship between and among employee satisfaction, customer satisfaction, and financial performance, the proponents cited the work of Rucci, Kirn, Quinn (1998) in which discussed and analysed the case of Sears and used the Service Profit Chain. Corruption of British Rule and Imperialism: The killing of an Elephant Shooting an Elephant explores the parallels between Britain s imperialism and a British officer s moral quandary with killing an elephant. Orwell s use of political critique is not lost in Shooting an Elephant. George Orwell s distrust and dislike of British rule is a common theme in most of his works like 1984 and Animal Farm, and is the hidden main idea of the Shooting an Elephant. By using themes of tyranny and conscience and symbols like the elephant Orwell conveys his contempt for Britain and imperialism as a whole. Based on Gerald Graff s personal experiences, he has come to the conclusion that schools and colleges are missing an opportunity when they do not encourage students to take their nonacademic interests as objects of academic study, (Graff 270). In other words, schools should start to focus on more extracurricular activities and sports, and transferring that passion into more scholarly subjects. Coming from a professor at the University of Chicago, who initially claimed himself to be an anti intellect, this statement shows the true significance of non educational activities and how they are equally valuable to other things considered more intellectual. Likewise, many blue collared job individuals are looked down upon by the eyes of society, due to not valuing non academic work. Blue collar jobs typically are jobs that consist of any manual labor, these jobs include: Plumbers, servers, electricians, etc. These jobs tend to be viewed as low class, and unintelligent. It is the vocalist s job to deliver the lyrics to the audience, it is the drummer who conveys the rhythm, and it is the lead guitarist who gets all the chicks. What does the bass player do? What is the Bass Player s Role? The role of the bass player is determined based on the type of band that you are in. Depending on who else is playing, their skill level, and what type of music you are playing, the bass player s role can change dramatically. Take, for example, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their bass player, Flea, is a dominant part of the band. His line is often the most recognizable part of a song, and he drives the rhythm and melody. His role is to help lead the band. Figure 2.12 illustrates the relations of the schema, gaze, visual, a from nd motor systems during the performance of a visually controlled action. (Adapted Land 2009:51 62). The gaze system, consisting of the frontal eye fields is responsible for locating and fixating (targeting) task relevant objects. The visual system, located in the occipital lobe and much of the temporal lobe supplies information to the other two systems, providing feedback as to what is being fixated and directional guidance to the motor system. In this way the eyes act to gather the information necessary for successful performance (Land 2009). In line with this thinking it is generally accepted that eye movements tend to precede motor actions by about one second, this is dependent on the specific task demands (Land Furneaux 1997, Land 2009).
