Discuss the importance or role played by Enterprise Risk Management in achieving the current goals
or objectives of ZimAsset [30]
Enterprise risk management (ERM) has been defined by the COSO (2004) as a process, effected by an
entity s board of directors, management and other personnel, applied in strategy setting and across the
enterprise, designed to identify potential events that may affect the entity, and manage risk to be

Role Of Doctors And The Medical System In Mrs Dalloway
Doctors and The Medical System in Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway
Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway is a piece of literature that helped to push forward a culture of writing
that she felt was otherwise stuck. Along with a style that transcended how people thought about telling
a story, was the commentary. The story is riddled with commentary on politics, society, war, class, and
the medical system. Virginia Woolf lets her worldviews bleed into her writing in a way that is
somehow both subtle and also still direct. She lets the characters have their own experiences and
dialogue, which show her views from different perspectives and without just coming out and saying it.
The commentary that this is most evident in is Woolf s commentary on doctors and the medical
system as a whole. Throughout Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf shows the incompetence of doctors and
the medical system through Clarissa and Septimus s interactions with them.
As the novel unfolds you begin to see more of the commentary on the medical system leak into the
story. When the novel begins, Clarissa is leaving to go out for a walk around the town. Clarissa hasn t
been able to get out as much as she has liked because she has struggled with her own illnesses that
have kept her presumably somewhat bed ridden. Although Clarissa s interactions with the doctors in
this story are not necessarily direct, it is made known that she has at least some distain for the time in
her life that she was struggling with her health.

Us Economy Essay
The U.S. economy has proven to be a power force among competing nations, as it is the largest and
most important economy in the world. The domestic challenges in addition to the rapidly transforming
global landscape have not withered the strength of the United States, as it represents approximately
20% of total global output. The U.S. economy maintains its powerhouse status through a plethora of
characteristics, which includes access to abundant natural resources and a sophisticated physical
infrastructure. These elements, along with the strong and well educated workforce, benefit the

economy and debate different policy options. The goals of this committee include the promotion of
maximum employment and price stability (Focus Economics).
The unemployment rate is projected to lower in 2017 and the years following it. The 4.5 percentage is
at a low compared to the 4.7 unemployment rate from 2016 and the 6.7 unemployment rate from the
Fed s. Although this drop means that the creation and attaining of jobs for citizens has increased, there
is still an issue. The specific unemployment known as structural unemployment has increased,
meaning that many workers are only working part time or have been subjected to lower paying jobs.
Janet Yellen, Federal Reserve Chair, explains that most job growth has come from food service
industries and low paying retail such as being an associate at Target or Sears. These increased job
fillings make it seem that unemployment rate is low when the high paying job positions are not
increasing. Yellen considers the real unemployment rate to be a more accurate representation of the
current state of unemployment in the nation. As opposed to the official unemployment rate (U 3), the
real unemployment rate (U 6) considers those who are marginally attached and discouraged rather
than just those who have looked for a job in the past four weeks and are unemployed. In addition, the
real unemployment rate looks at the part time workers who are not satisfied with their current
placement and would

A Review of the Effects of Steroid Hormones and Neuropeptides on Social Emotional Behavior
Bos, Peter A., Panksepp, Jaak, Bluthé, Rose Marie, van Honk, Jack (2011). Acute effects of steroid
hormones and neuropeptides on human social emotional behavior: A review of single administration
studies. Frontiers in Neuroendocrinology 33 (2012) 17 35.
1. Introduction/Background Information The discovery of hormones and their function has been
relatively recent. The term was first coined by Professor Earnest Starling in 1905. He derived the word
from the Greek meaning to arouse or excite. However, the idea of the role hormones could be traced
back as far as ancient Greece. Though Hippocrates theory on humors has been refuted, the ... Show

The neuro developmental effects of these chemicals are comparatively well known, while their impact
on human conduct has yet to be fully comprehended.
2. Goals of the study The main goal of this study was to review all of the placebo controlled single
hormone administration studies addressing human social emotional behavior, involving the peptides
oxytocin and vasopressin, and the steroids testosterone and estradiol. This research gives insight into
the underlying neural mechanisms and also demonstrates substantial hormonal control over human
behavior. After reviewing and discussing the placebo controlled studies, they proposed a theoretical
model that synthesized detailed knowledge of neuroendocrinology of social emotional behavior in
animals, as well as the recently gained data on humans. The study of emotional and behavioral
disorders have become more popular in the last twenty years. Characteristics of these irregularities
include: learning disabilities that are not explainable by either sensory, health, or intellectual factors;
persistently inappropriate feelings and conduct; and/or chronic unhappiness or depression (gadoe.org).
The authors of this study thoroughly analyzed the underlying neural mechanisms of supplemental
hormones and how they affect participants as opposed to using a placebo. Research into human
behavior as it relates to neuroendocrinology will be crucial to future generations and their
interrelations.

Similarities Between Julius Caesar And Malcom X
Today we ll be looking over some surprising similarities with Julius Caesar and Malcom X, two
leaders who quickly rose to power in their respective times. Even though from completely different
ages, and a diverse difference in race and societies, both men still faced similar trials. Similar fates.
Born in July 13th, 100 BC, Julius Caesar was born into the world. Early trials such as having to lead
his family as the head at the age of 16 when his father died suddenly in 85 BC. He quickly rose to
power after serving in wars, and sought political power, beginning his campaigns in 59 BC. While
many praises Caesar, some feared that he held too much power, and during a senate session he was
assassinated by several of the senators who plotted his demise, marking the end of Julius Caesar.
Malcom X (Malcom Little), was born in May 19, 1925, Omaha, Nebraska. Having to frequently
relocate homes from threats from the Black Legion, a white racist group, his father was killed in a car
accident when Malcom was only at the age of 6, Malcom s mother believed the accident occurred at
the hands of the Black Legion. In 1937, his mother was sent to a mental hospital, and Malcom then
had to fend for himself in multiple foster homes. After becoming a Nation of Islam member in ...

successfully completed many military campaigns, and Malcom X was spreading the word of Islam

were loved, hated by others, both continued to strive and wanted to move forward in their careers.
Another similarity is the way they met their ends, assassination. Unknowingly, and both killed in
excessive manners, such as, Caesar being stabbed 23 times, and Malcom X being hit with 21

Research Paper On Carbohydrates
Low carb meals are defined as meals that have low amounts of carbohydrates per serving. Frequently,
individuals assume the lower, the better, but in the case of this form of diet, it is best to focus on the
proper amount of carbs. The reason for this is that carbohydrates are necessary to the body from the
viewpoint of nutrition and health.
To comprehend this better, it is a great idea to discover how carbs are processed by the human body.
Food items like rice, grains, pasta, and bananas consist of substantial amounts of carbohydrates. When
people eat these foods, the starch is converted into glucose. Most of this is utilized through the body as
energy. Excess energy will be changed into glycogen and stored by the body.
It is important to note that the body has a constant need for glucose. It is also important to note that
carbohydrates are not necessarily bad for the system in all cases. As long as people have the correct
quantity in their diets, this cannot really become a problem. Once again, some kind of workout is also
needed to work off some of the extra carbs in the system. When anyone take in much more of this
substance than their bodies need, some of the excess will be kept as fat and this is where carbs may
become an issue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, all carbohydrates are not good for the system. Some can be considered excellent while
others can be viewed as bad. Complex carbohydrates are the good ones. It is because these
carbohydrates are full of nutritional value and also contain dietary fiber. Sweet potatoes, as well as
whole grain products like whole wheat and rice are great sources of complex

Essay about Analysis of Anne Sexton s Poem Her Kind
Analysis of Anne Sexton s Poem Her Kind Anne Sexton was a poet and a woman, but most
importantly, she was an outcast. Subjected to nervous breakdowns and admitted to a neuropsychiatry
hospital, Sexton must have been all too familiar with the staring eyes and the judging minds of the
public. Just being a woman in today s world often can be enough to degrade a person in the public s
eye, let alone being labeled as a crazy woman. But Anne Sexton did not let society remain
unchallenged in its views. She voiced a different opinion of women through poetry. In Anne Sexton s
Her Kind the speaker of the poem embraces society s negative stereotype of modern, liberated women
and transforms it into a positive image. Two voices, the voice of ... Show more content on

This distancing shows how she is different from society; perhaps society pushes her away because she
is different, or perhaps society sees her as different because she has segregated herself from the typical
lifestyle of civilization. Either way, the voice of society chants, A woman like that is misunderstood
(Line 13). Society must get rid of her because it cannot see her point of view. Moreover, Anne Sexton
uses stunning imagery to illustrate the pain society inflicts on an outcast. The speaker compares
herself to a witch who has been carted off to an insane asylum and claims I have ridden in your cart,
driver, I waved my nude arms at villages going by, I learning the last bright routes (Lines15 17). She
vividly describes pain through torture methods practiced on witches during the Inquisition. For
example, she feels she has been burned at the stake because society s flames still bite my thigh (Line
18). The speaker s ribs crack where your wheels wind (Line 19) on another torture device, the wheel.
The words still in the phrase still bite (Line 18) stresses that tortures have not gone out of style but
have merely changed shape, and society still employs them to resist the change in power towards
women. Although the physical tortures are no longer obvious in America, women s success is still
lagging because of the attitude of society. The public supposes that she is not

Going back to chapter 1, millions of cats and dogs are euthanized a year and endure being stray. These
high numbers are mostly because of a big litter that was unplanned. Removing a pet s reproductive
organs is a great way to battle animal overpopulation. The price of spaying or neutering has a range of
about $45 $175. That is not too much relative to caring for a whole litter of kittens or puppies. There
are other great reasons to spay and neuter animals besides the fact that it doesn t contribute to
overpopulation. For instance, spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast cancer, which is fatal
in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. (pets.webmd.com) In summary, one easy, cost

events leading up to his death. In an effort to prove his independence, Chris makes a tragic journey to
Alaska that killed him at 24 years old. Along the way, he encounters many people who have been
impacted by his mature, unique personality. Wayne Westerberg, Jan Burress, and Ronald Franz are a

sociable, playful nature. According to an interview from Krakauer, Jan Buress felt like, he was storing

Passing By Nella Larsen Analysis
Obsession over Sexuality
Passing by Nella Larsen is a very peculiar novel of race, identity, family, friendship, love, and
sexuality. Her novel portrays the characteristics and symbols of the racial society of 1920s. Larsen
used Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry as examples of light skinned African American of this Harlem
Renaissance. Both women appear similar, but their views on race, family and friendship were
significantly different. Clare differs from Irene by the fact that she uses her appearance as an
advantage, leaving behind her motherhood and her racial identity to gain attention and wealth. For
these two women, sexuality appeals to one another. Larsen presents Irene s sexuality towards Clare as
being dominated by obsession.
Irene s strange attraction and jealousy toward Clare is reveal throughout the novel, which started at the
Drayton Hotel. She felt a peculiar attraction when she saw Clare, an attractive looking young
woman... with those dark, almost black eyes and that wide mouth like a scarlet flower against the

The Theory Of Behavioral Economics
In recent years behavioral economics appeared as a new subfield of economics. A sharp departure
from traditional economics, it is surrounding by some questions. Historical roots of behavioral
economics could be found in eighteenth century. Adam Smith in his paper The theory of moral
sentiments , had noted that human behavior was not ideal, there were deviations from rationality and
so these deviations could have impact on economic decisions of individuals. In that time, Smith had
no idea about the exact theory of decision making, however his paper played substantial role in
development of behavioral economics. Smith s idea was almost discarded until Great Depression,
when economists such as Irving Fisher and Vilfredo Pareto returned to the concept of human factor to
explain the stock market crash by considering these individuals deviations from the rationality. In
1955 economist Herbert Simon introduced the term bounded rationality . Under this term Simon

There are number misunderstandings surrounding behavioral economics, which leads to several
questions. According to the general definition behavioral economics is the mixture of psychology and
economics that studies the effect of emotional, psychological and social factors upon economic
decisions made by people and institutions. On the one hand, traditional economic theory makes
assumption of rationality in the economic models which implies that people are rational, patient and
proficient economic agents who know what makes them happy and try to maximize their utility and so
always make rational decisions. While behavioral economists claim that this assumption is violated in
reality and try to make these economic models more realistic by considering the fact that in reality
humans are not always rational, do not follow logic when they make decision or even avoid making
choice when they face

Cooking and baking is a central quality of this family s lifestyle. The narrative goes into great detail
and this has to do with a cultural placement. For Giovanni s family, cooking and eating is a set of
cultural rituals and the making of an experience. It is a part of a performance art, not just a
consumption product. Another central quality of this family s lifestyle is essentially work. Puma
writes: With Johnny s help, father and son would finish up by eleven instead of after midnight for the
father alone. The next morning Johnny would still be sleepy, and his mother would tickle his toes until
he climbed out of bed for breakfast with his sister and brother. By then his father would already be on
the subway headed again for the pastry shop Downtown (From the Margins 86).
This shows that Giovanni s life centers around work. Giovanni spends most of his time working about
six days a week. He is doing this in order to support his family. In another scene when Johnny is
making dough, he sees bugs in the flour, and Giovanni also accidentally knocks cigarette ashes into
the flour. Giovanni shrugs it off as if it is no big deal. Giovanni is exhausted and he is simply being
realistic and just wants to get work done. Puma shows Giovanni s hard lifestyle when he writes: The
physical work, the heat from the ovens...the long hours for little pay in those times when most other

Famine Affluence And Morality Peter Singer Summary
In Peter Singer s article, Famine, Affluence, and Morality, he proposes the question: What are the
moral implications of a situation like the one in Bengal (230)? In order to answer this question Singer
presents at least two arguments which involve what one ought to do and the moral consequences of
not acting or pursuing our moral obligations. His first and central conclusion is that we ought to
behave in such a way as to decrease suffering and death as a result of lack of food, shelter and medical
care. Assuming that the aforementioned events are bad Peter singer argues that we are morally
obligated to help relieve great suffering of the sort that occurs as a result of famine or other disasters
as long as we can without sacrificing something else of comparable moral importance (238). In fact,
he goes so far as to present an additional conclusion that not acting or pursuing our moral obligation to
help is unjustifiable and wrong and we must then change our moral schema about the obligations we
have to others.
In order to evaluate the validity of this argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing this I think he strengthens his argument. He not only provides the reader with insight into his
moral character but also engages the reader in what he thinks we ought to do for the goodness of all

As far as I can tell, he does not resort to any type of logical fallacy (i.e. ad hominem, appeals to
authority, straw man, etc.) which would discredit the opposing side. Instead, he presents arguments
against his claim and acknowledges them professionally and provides pragmatic solutions. The way
he deals with those in opposition illustrates something important about the author s character and
background that seems to be pleasantly welcomed by the

ADD/ADHD changes a man s efficiency in college environment, as well as other aspects of life too.
Relationships with others, how well you arrange your chamber and properties, and the way you keep

Summary Of Remembering My Childhood On The Continent Of...

Journal Entry #2
David Sedaris s Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of
Africa Journal Response In the comparison and contrast essay, Remembering My Childhood on the
Continent of Africa, by David Sedaris, the author talks about the jealousy he feels towards the
excitement present in his friend Hugh s life. David Sedaris explores the contrast in the dullness of his
own childhood with the adventurous lifestyle of his friend s childhood. Using descriptions, personal
experiences of his friend and himself, and language, Sedaris explains why he takes satisfaction in
passing his friend s stories as though they were his own since the stories were more interesting. The
field trips, environment, and activities all contribute in the development of the difference in lifestyle
between them. The subject of Sedaris s comparison and contrast in this essay is to show the aspects of
both Hugh and the author s childhood, that would cause the author to feel proud using his friend s
stories as his own. For instance, the author states that, When I was young I went to the theater at the
nearby shopping center and watched a movie about a talking Volkswagen... Like me, Hugh saw the
movie by himself on a weekend afternoon. Unlike me, he left the theater two hours later, to find a
dead man hanging from a telephone pole at the far end of the unpaved parking lot (Sedaris 182). The
quote above indicates that the author is being naïve and childish. No boy or child who is as young as
he was should feel pleasure in seeing a dead person. The thesis of this essay is as follows, Certain
events are parallel, but compared with Hugh s, my childhood was unspeakably dull. When I was seven
years old, my family moved to North Carolina. We had a collie and a house cat. When he was seven
years old, Hugh s family moved to the Congo. They had a monkey and two horses named Charlie and
Satan. I threw stones at stop signs. Hugh threw stones at crocodiles (Sedaris 181). This clearly informs
the reader that the author is envious of Hugh s childhood since his was extremely boring. Additionally,
the thesis is stated and not implied because the author openly asserts that, When I m told such stories,

The Energy Of Fossil Fuels
The capability to yoke energy sources and put them toward dynamic use has engaged a vital role in
economic development globally. The industrial revolution in Europe was motivated in share by the
usage of coal to power steam engines for water and rail transportation, to simplify iron casting, and to
power looms and other industrial gear (Michael Roberts, 67). Prolonged use of effortlessly available
oil aided to fuel nonstop expansion in the twentieth century. Agricultural assembly was converted by
the use of motor powered farm gear and petroleum based fertilizers and pesticides. Trucks, airplanes
and cars powered by oil products transformed the transportation of goods and people. Electricity,
mainly powered by coal and to a smaller degree oil and natural gas, funded to the additional
automation of engineering and made possible the expansion of abundant electricity powered
technologies (Michael Roberts, 75).
Although fossil fuels have aided incentive economic development, the fast consumption of fossil fuels
has also added to environmental damage, and could end up with higher prices in the future. The
drilling, mining and transportation of fossil fuels can lead to the elimination of mountaintops, the
pollution of ground water with methane, and oil spills that plunder beaches and oceans. The burning
of fossil fuels can release chemicals that add to acid rain, smog and mercury contamination. These
instantaneous environmental costs also go along with two prominent worries about

Child Rearing Practices During The Twentieth Century
Child rearing practices are derived from cultural influences on parents. For much of history, parenting
practices were passed down from family or based on religious beliefs. However, during the late
nineteenth and twentieth century, the way children were raised started to drastically change. Parents
began seeking scientific advice from researchers instead of clergymen. The systematic study of child
development prompted the emergence of child rearing experts and parental advice literature, which
would fundamentally change the way American children were raised.
Child savers paved the way for a sustained public commitment to children s welfare. The child saving
movement started in the late eighteenth century. American cities were home to some of the worst
conditions for children. Poor youths roamed the streets begging for money and looking for food
scraps. As systems like apprenticeship declined, growing numbers of delinquent, urban children and
infant deaths rates were becoming too widespread to ignore. The child savers were a diverse group of
people, including elite philanthropists, evangelical Protestants, benevolent middle class women, [and]
urban missionaries, dedicated to improving childhood in America. However, child saving ... Show

Concepts Of The Anomie Theory
Theoretical framework
Anomie Theory For the purpose of the study, anomie and planned behaviour theory have been applied
since they bear relevant to the analysis of impact of solid waste on environment and health. The
French sociologist Emile Durkheim introduced the term Anomie in his study of suicide (1897). He has
also borrowed the word from the French philosopher Jean Marie Guyau. According to Emile
Durkheim, anomie is an absence of social values and norms. The anomie theory explains various
forms of deviance. It is also called strain theory. When a social structure or system is in the state of
abnormal or deviant, the common values, norms and meanings are no longer understood or accepted,
and the new values, norms and meanings have not emerged or developed. According to Emile
Durkheim, social facts are the subject issues of sociology. It is also defined as the patterns of
behaviour that are capable of exercising some power upon individuals. The social facts guide and
control conducts external to the individual in the form of norms, folkways and mores. Emile ... Show

Aristophanes And Plato Compared To Socrates
Aristophanes describes him as a impatient and narrow mind thinker and he also not consider Socrates
as a teacher but just a normal thinker who tries to convey his ideologies in typical way. Aristophanes
pointed Socrates as evil person who just try to be a great thinker and wanted to give their teachings to
other. Aristophanes describes Socrates very ironically and revealed many controversial facts about him
in his works.
But on the contrary Plato also describes Socrates in a very critical way and also portrayed as a very
disputable way but he also Characterize him as a philosopher who give lot of contributions in the
western philosophy.Plato consider his as a sophist because he was father of western philosophy and
propounded many theories and also gives many doctrines which also known as Doctrine of Socrates
but as same as Aristophanes he describes him as an ironic person who does not believe in God.
Socrates was stirred in so many controversies and had put to death by jury of five hundred member
just because he did not admit his faith in God when he was accused by his fellow. He was sentenced to
death by Athenian court just because he did not believe in the faith of God and he was refuse to
identify God. Poison was given to him to give him death.
These were the depictions which were critically characterized by the Aristophanes and Plato in context
of Socrates disbelief in God s faith.

Analysis Of The Garden Of Earthly Delights
Art is all around us and whether we notice it or not we are always evaluating, deconstructing, and
deciding on if we like it or not. The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch is a triptych
done in the Renaissance period. A triptych is a painting or relief carving that has three different panels
and are hinged together side by side. I first came across this painting in my art history class in high
school and from then on I loved it due to all the imagery, colors, and the overall meaning that it had.
Ever since then this artwork has left a big imprint and got me to think about art as much more than a
picture, but to look at it as a whole and analyze it. This painting always seemed interesting and
intriguing for a couple of reasons. There are many themes going on, the colors are very monochrome
but yet look vivid and life like, and it has a very deep meaning with the themes of mortality, sin, and
shows the end results for evil doings. The triptych has three different panels and all three have their
own story to tell. When the triptych is closed and both left and right sections are shut you see the
world in tones of gray or neutral colors. At the uppermost left corner of the closed sections you can
see a depiction of God looking down at the world with an open book in his hands. The first one on the
left tells the story of how God introduced Adam to Eve. They are shown to be in a beautiful and
surreal looking location which is thought to be paradise. Adam, Eve, and God

Fisher’s tenure began a series of changes at Kodak: cost cutting measures were introduced, faster
decisions were encouraged and there was a move towards proactive business strategies. An informal
manager, Fisher replaced the rigid hierarchical organization at Kodak and delegated decisions to line
managers. The change in also resulted in a refocus of activities which resulted in reductions of 9,000
jobs worldwide during 1994 and 1995 almost 10% of the workforce. The company posted a net
income of $1,252 million in 1995 (Exhibit 1).
Corporate Environmental Efforts
Kodak has a history of health, safety, and environment (HS E) awareness. The company’s formal
commitment to HS E began in 1936 with the creation of the Laboratory of Industrial Medicine. By the
late 1980s the company had instituted HS E policies and performance standards, and a corporate HS E
assessment program. Additionally, the corporate strategic planning processes included HS E priorities.
A corporate level HS E Management Council was created at Kodak in 1989. The Council brings
senior company officers together to provide direction and establish policies affecting performance. By
the 1990s, HS E criteria were beginning to be included in performance tracking, and prevention based
HS B programs were encouraged.
Kodak’s vision statement now includes HS E performance, and Fisher has also adopted an HS E

Analysis Of Ibsen s Hedda Gabler
Alexandria Cruz
English 215
Prof. Dalton
August 18, 2014
Assignment #3 Question 1
Since the beginning of time there have always been a particular set of societal and gender roles for
men and women. Some were very openly known and others were known without even being said. The
story of Hedda Gabler by Ibsen Henrick tells the story of what seems to be a disturbed woman and her
manipulative charades that ultimately lead to her suicide. As one may say Hedda deserved her fate
others may sympathize with Hedda and understand the pressures that were being placed upon her from
society. During the Victorian period gender roles were strictly enforced and women had a certain place
in society and that was it. Ibsen Henrick understood this and painted a vivid picture of the everyday
life for women during the time and how lonesome, unfulfilling, and (INSERT WORD) it could have
been for some. Granted not all women felt this way because they were so consumed by the society and
tradition they merely followed suit, but there were women who began to feel the need to want more
out of life and to be empowered and have control over their own destiny and Hedda Gabbler was one
of those women. I don t believe Hedda was just a disturbed and vindictive woman. I believe Hedda
was a victim of societal pressure and her own circumstances and they drove her to do things she
would not normally do if she was happy in her own home and in a more free and comfortable place in
life.
The Victorian time period was

What Are Iago s Evil Deeds
In Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, the antagonist Iago serves as a wicked puppeteer, manipulating the
strings of each involved character. His spite and cruelty leads to the tragic downfall of not Othello,
Desdamona, Rodrigo, and himself. He looked down on others, especially women, and shaped himself
into a cloaked figure who pulled strings for his own gain. Iago proves that when ill will and means to
spread it come into contact, misery will follow. Iago is a spiteful, manipulative, and cunning tactician
who nearly found a means to reach an end that suited him. He sounds like a monster, yet Iago may be
the most human of all the characters. Iago s spite opens a Pandora s Chest brimming with the world s
evils; if we look back to the beginning of the play, his motives were to punish Othello for awarding
the position of lieutenant to Michael Cassio and not himself. We can prove this with a quote, told in a
malicious tone: I have already chose my officer. And what was he? ...Michael Cassio... that never set a

Moor draw misaligned conclusions. Iago s only true crime the entire time was stabbing Cassio; had he
not done so, there would be little to charge him with. He told Othello truths and opinions, yet no lies

Essay On Bowling For Columbine Shooting
Although many people think that Americans are gun nuts, in reality they re just all nuts. This
realization was shown in the documentary Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore. Throughout the
film Michael Moore shows us many examples of why America has problems with guns. However
after watching one realizes that the problem isn t with guns but within the American people instead.
When the film first begins we see Michael Moore going to a bank a getting a rifle from a bank just for
opening a bank account. Shortly after that there is a montage of people selling guns and the violence
that comes from it. This shows just how easy it is getting a gun is in America which was an effective

one hundred sixty five gun related deaths per year while America has an astounding eleven thousand
one hundred twenty seven gun related deaths per year. This clearly shows that the problem isn t guns
but the American people. It s not the gun that moves by itself and goes out attacking people but the
people. Another within the documentary says that Marilyn Manson and violent computer
games/movies is to blame for the Columbine shootings. Germany has a considerably larger amount of
goth population when compared to the US but their gun violence is twenty nine times less than the US
. Japan also watches very violent movies and plays a lot of violent video games, however their gun
related deaths are two hundred and eighty five times less than ours. The last and probably most
important case the president of the NRA. Not only did he have the audacity to have a gun riot just
days after a gun related incident he refused to apologize for it and walked away. This truly shows how
America really are just full of nuts. However even though the film showed us the despair that is
America s gun problems it also showed us a shred of hope. When Michael Moore went to KMart with
Mark Taylor and Richard Castaldo two Columbine victims, they bought bullets to the KMart

Suffering With Food Poisoning Caused By Salmonella Sp Essay
Scenario C
The patient in this scenario C was suffering with food poisoning caused by Salmonella sp.
Non typhoid Salmonella sp. causes inflammation of the digestive tract (enterocolitis). Common
symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, myalgia and watery non bloody diarrhoea usually appear
between 8 and 72 h after the ingestion of a pathogen (D Aoust, 1994). Human salmonellosis is self
limiting infection, nevertheless patients are advised to replace fluid and electrolytes (D Aoust, 1994).
Sometimes the progression of enterocolitis into local infections via blood stream can occur (D Aoust,
1994; D Aoust, 1991).
The infection process is very complex due to numerous virulent factors of the pathogen. In order to
enter the small intestine a bacterium must first overcome the antimicrobial activity of saliva enzyme,
lactoperoxidase and the low pH of digestive fluid in the (D Aoust, 1991). Cytotoxin present on the
bacterial cell wall disturb membrane integrity of the host cells which contribute to bacterium
attachment and to cell invasion (D Aoust, 1991). Salmonella attaches itself to the intestinal epithelial
cells by fimbriae. Pathogens enter epithelial cells by membrane bound vesicle, this process is known
as bacteria mediated endocytosis (D Aoust, 1991). Bacterium then divide and invade mucosa layer.
Diarrheagenic enterotoxin is released in the intestinal lumen and into the lumen of epithelial cells.
Effect of enterotoxin and local inflammation cause water and

ends by mentioning the prior day s bombing of the artillery. The idea of time is essential to the story in
many ways, but especially the sequence of events told by Yu Tsun. When he first hears that Runeberg
has been killed, he goes into thought about time and how it affects man; Was I now going to die? Then

The story is about an angel who looks like a sickly elderly man with wings. Readers see how the
people of the neighborhood treat the angel throughout the story. They throw things at him, keep him in
a chicken coop, make him a freak show attraction, and treat him like a wild animal. However, on the
last page of the story, I found a passage that I consider significant to the story. The owner of the house
and property on which the angel fell, Pelayo, offers some humane treatment to the angel. [The angel]
could scarcely eat and his antiquarian eyes had also become so foggy that he went bumping into posts.
All he had left were the bare cannulae of his last feathers. Pelayo threw a blanket over him and
extended him the charity of letting him sleep in the shed (Marquez 932). Here, after the angel had
been a caged spectacle, Pelayo finally treats the angel as he would a human, not an animal. The theme
for this story could be humanity, or lack there of, and its consequences. The angel, in its sickly and
ugly state, could have been testing the people of the neighborhood and their humanity. As the people
continued to treat the angel poorly, the angel became sicker. However, once Pelayo treated the angel
with humanity, even in its unfortunate state, it regained enough strength to fly away. I believe this
small gesture of kindness saved the angel and/or completed

V For Vendett The Role Of Anarchism In Society
Every since it s ideas were popularized in the media by the 2006 movie, V for Vendetta, anarchism has
been a topic of mass confusion and fierce discussion. In a general survey taken in Newton High
School, 1 out 30 people surveyed actually knew the definition of anarchism, where as the remaining
29 people believe the ideas of anarchism are purely chaotic, and advocate for lawlessness, which leads
me to the thesis statement of this essay: Anarchism is largely misconstrued in society. I m going to
prove that my thesis statement is true through the use of 3 main points: 1. What anarchism truly is, 2.
Different kinds of anarchism, and 3. The history of anarchism.

For all anarchists, freedom of the individual is humanity s purest treasure, and it has become their
chosen role to fight tirelessly for its survival. Even in the land of the free and home of the brave,
unfettered freedom is sought by few men, for it is a condition full of peril and heavy with
responsibility. Nor is the United States as close to the spirit of its national anthem as it once was. The
frontier is gone. Small farms and personal businesses are giving way to agricultural combines and big
industry, and the individual standing alone finds he has little influence in selecting his leadership or
shaping national policy. (Forman, 75). Using this excerpt from James D. Forman s book Anarchism,
political innocence or social violences? , one can deduce what anarchism is. Anarchism is a political
theory, which is skeptical of the justification of authority and power, especially political power. As I
mentioned early, Anarchy and Anarchism are two things, Anarchy is a condition of life without the
intrusion of governance and the mechanisms and institutions of the state, whereas Anarchism is
essentially the ideology in which Anarchy is achieved. That being said, there is a problem that occurs.
some anarchists believe that the best and only way to achieve anarchy is through anarchism. The
implication is that a majority of a given population would necessarily need to be anarchists, and only
one type of anarchist. This would result not in anarchy as a condition of existence, but of the
institutionalization of a particular type of

Genetic modification has long been a part of the way humans adapt to their environment. From
selectively breeding sheep to get the perfect wool to eliminating unsavory seeds to get the tastiest,
reddest apples, people have been indirectly engineering the genes of other organisms for centuries.
However, scientific advancement has produced a new breed of genetic engineering. Scientists are now
able to actually insert genes from one organism into the DNA of another (Goldbas 20). While this has
led to numerous beneficial medicines and foods, the modern GMOs are enveloped in controversy.

According to a Pew study, 88 percent of these [American Association for the Advancement of
Science] scientists believe that genetically engineered food products are safe to eat (Koberstein 49).
However, of those very same scientists only 68 percent think the same of foods grown with pesticides
(Koberstein 49). This is incredibly ironic because all GMO foods are grown with the use of pesticides.
If the scientists properly understood GMOs, then the number for GMOs would be no greater than the
number for pesticides. They contradict themselves by having a lower opinion of pesticide use than
GMOs. Distinguished environmental journalist Paul Koberstein reports the GMOs are grown using
some [pesticides] which have been shown to be highly toxic to the environment and humans, like
atrazine, chlorpyrifos, as well as potentially hazardous insecticidal proteins that are genetically

worse that GMO foods. This situation is just the beginning of the GMO enigma, which remarkably
involves simultaneously using and ignoring science. More than just pesticides are causing harm when
it comes to GMOs. The FDA, or Food and Drug Administration, allows companies that manufacture

The Golden Age And The Golden Age
I have found myself thinking back to the first grade when comparing my time in that period of my life
to the golden age. In the first grade I relied on people more than ever for the basic necessities that I
needed at that time. I was sent to Bancroft Elementary School and it is located in Andover,
Massachusetts. At this point I was somewhat unknowingly guided through the first grade and it ended
up sharing many similarities with the golden age. The golden age is when man did not have to worry
about what is needed in the basic human life, this includes fighting, food, shelter, and justice. In this
young grade I recall vividly of not having a worry for any necessities that play a key part in everyday
life. When I was told to go to lunch I ended up eating the food given, but I was knowledgeable on how
it got on my plate; moreover, there seemed to be peace and a lack of physical violence throughout the
grade. This thought of having peace, food, little work, and having a roof over your head in the first
grade shares many similarities with what man experienced in the golden age.
In the first grade I did not understand the idea where justice and peace develops from; however,
reflecting on this now I can understand how this is something that I would have found to be
insignificant while being in the first grade. When I went to the first grade the safety protocols were not
as commonly practiced as they are current day. I had felt a sense of safety even though I may not have

Thin Client vs. Fat Client Network Design
Thin Client vs. Fat Client Network Design Considerations
Introduction Network computing was created in an effort to allow users of a computer application to
share data more easily than using stand alone computers. Clients on a client/server network store their
application data on a central server. There are two categories of clients on a network. They were
originally categorized by their hardware design, but today clients are categorized by the software
application design and where the bulk of the processing is done and where the bulk of the application
software is stored.
A thin client, sometimes called a lean client, is a low cost, centrally managed computer. The term
derives from the fact that small computers in networks tend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A product made by Citrix Systems actually simulates a Microsoft Windows desktop from a thin
400KB client. The Citrix product does have server capacity problems when sending multimedia over a
network, but basic word processing and accounting programs are practical over a Citrix network.
This transition has made it once again easier to operate in a centralized processing computing
environment. Today further enhancements to HTML are allowing more graphic intensive applications
to be created. Macromedia Flash, Shockwave, and ActiveX Controls are enhancements to HTML
which are allowing for a thin client application to have dynamic graphical interfaces. Load balancing
systems such as Coyote Point Systems Equalizers are allowing reliable networks with redundant
servers and application load spread over multiple servers. Lower telecommunication and standard
routing protocols such as BGP have allowed remote offices relying on network access to have
redundant routes to the internet or central servers.

only do we try to mimic their appearance but also the high moral standards they live by. This can
range from only fighting evil, always being polite to the most important factor, consistently saving the
day. Now this action does not have an age limit, superhero fanatics range from all ages, shapes and
sizes this is shown to be true every Halloween and of course comic con. Among today s society the
fixation over an extraordinary human overcoming all adversities and obstacles for the simple purpose
of defending human kind has begun to increase over the years. Films like Ghostbusters and Harry
Potter to name a few reflect just that, this concept is known as the hero myth. Overshadowing an
indirect correlation to society with the use of the hero myth further projects the tangent the public
creates when confronted with unexplainable evils of their own.
Superheros, we are constantly seeing different variation of them on the big screen, but the concept
hero myth brings them all together. Now what exactly is the Hero Myth , In the book Sings of Life in
the USA by Sonia Massik and Jack Solomon, a women by the name of Linda Seger provides the
infamous concept of the hero myth. In the section Creating the Myth , she explains what Hero Myth

The Wild Turkey Sucess Story Essay
What I ve learned about the wild turkey success story is that the wild turkey is one of the most
significant wildlife restoration successes in North American history. This species of bird has not only
been restored to almost all of its family range, but has been successful to suitable habitats elsewhere
on the continent. The story of the wild turkey is a cause for thanksgiving among the people who
support the environment. And not just at this time of year. The reason is that the wild turkey about
became extinct in America in the years between 1900 and 1930. But with careful planning, stocking
programs and support between conservation and hunting groups, it has made a remarkable comeback.
Wild turkey populations went as low as 30,000 all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They ve overcome loss of habitat and past practices of overhunting. The wild turkey has proved that
environmental damage caused by humans can be overturned if people choose to work as a team.
Because they ve made such a comeback they have grown larger in their size. They can get to be 36 48
inches long the, have a wingspan of 57 inches and weigh up to 25 pounds. They can fly as fast as
55mph and run up to 25mph. Their gobble can be heard from as far as 1 mile away. The NWTF
declared this intriguing species has truly made an awesome comeback. Theirs plenty of items that can
be done to continue the wild turkeys remarkable comeback.
One thing or suggestion that can be done to keep wild turkeys coming back to your land or into a
particular area is to do a controlled burn. Controlled burning is one of the most effective land
management methods for wild turkeys. A properly controlled burning can clear the right amount of
area to allow new plants on which wild turkeys feed on to grow in their population. The more plants to
feed on, the more wild turkeys there will be in the area, as long as they feel comfortable feeding in
that area. Grass and legumes are some of the plants that turkeys love that will grow in the controlled
burn areas. A second item is that the wild turkey can range many miles in a day s search for food and
eats as many as a pound of insects and seeds along the way. So a

The Greatest Leader Of The United States 2016 Election...
The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. he is the one who gets the
people to do the greatest things. This is a quote by one of our past presidents,
Ronald Reagan. As the United States 2016 election year shortly approaches candidates everywhere are
trying to be seen as great leaders to the people. One of the main ways candidates do this is by
campaigning, which involved going to speeches, going to philanthropic events, and coming up with
creative ways to advertise. Donald J. Trump a businessman turning politician is one of the head
candidates for the National Republican Party, and according to the Washington
Post is becoming a better looking candidate everyday (Milbank). Trump worked for his father s real
‐
estate company starting after college. In 1971 he was given control of the company. Trump slowly
began signing contracts with hotel and apartment complexes. He began buying properties to build his
own hotels as well. In 2015 this popular and famous businessman announced that he was going to run
in the 2016 United States presidential election. He started the Donald J. Trump for President
Incorporation to begin his campaign. This incorporation owns The Donald J.
Trump official website, which is being used as one of his main campaign advertising sources. It has
pictures of him and his slogan, shows his position on popular issues, shows articles of him in the
media, and as well sells merchandise, like hats, t
shirts, and yard signs. The

Chapter Questions On Non Material Culture
Catrina Parrott Christopherson
Jolene Sundlie
Chapter 2 and 4 Homework Assignment
September 22nd, 2014
Chapter 2:
1. This was an example of Folkways because in the first segment of the eight, the natives showed
talked about how they do stuff in their island. While they were talking about coming to the U.S., I saw
the way they were all dressed by only covering their groin area and having the rest of their body
exposed especially their buttocks. Even the women only had their groin area cover not even the breast
area was cover. While they were getting ready to come to America, they realized that they would have
to wear clothes to cover their whole body and they were not use to that and the other natives were
laughing. This is part of a Folkway because it shows the way their culture is and how they live day to
day. 2. This is an example of Non material Culture because in all the segments, you can see that when
the Natives talk about how they have chickens and a few pigs that they own and that they feed off of
the plants or stuff that they grow in the garden. Their custom idea that they have in their culture is to
have joy and peace and love. 3. This is a example of Cultural Diffusion because when the Natives
arrive to the ranch in Montana that they will be staying at for a while in segment 2 and 3, they see how
the couple in Montana has different cultural elements than they do because the women just don t do all
the cooking, the men also help out the grown women told

The Terms Of A Contract
The terms of a contract refer to the obligations of the parties entering into the contract. These terms
are the contents of the contract, which determine the parties rights and obligations. Consequently, the
law classifies the terms in two ways. Firstly, the law can look at the terms according to the
consequences of breach involving the nature of each term as a condition, warranty or innominate.
Secondly, they may investigate the method through which the terms got into the contract, explicitly or
implicitly. Courts have the option to examine these two methods to reach an understanding of the
obligations of each party in the contract breached by one party. In reference to the first method, this
essay will focus on the ability of implicit terms to enter into a contract. An implicit term is not
expressly agreed to by the parties, but nevertheless are either read into the contract or arise from other
sources of law. To clarify, parties may not have expressly included the term due to forgetfulness,
previous contract with the party or because it may have been obvious due to the parties presence in the
same trade. If the parties do not include a term, the court can imply a term for business efficacy. This
is done in order to make a contract work. Accordingly, the court aims to make valid the intention of
the parties. The Moorcock (1889) involved a term not included, but of such an obvious nature that the
parties did not think to include it in the contractual terms. Subsequently,

King Kong Entertainment Of The Masses Analysis
King Kong: The Entertainment of the Masses It s money and adventure and fame. It s the thrill of a
lifetime and a long sea voyage that starts at six o clock tomorrow morning (King Kong, Carl
Denham). As Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong) drags King Kong to Broadway, he makes ten thousand
dollars in just one night for the exhibition of the Eighth Wonder of the World. Thousands of New
Yorkers paid twenty dollars per ticket, or the equivalent to three hundred sixty nine dollars in today s
currency, to gaze at a prehistoric ape. This gaze found in King Kong is the imperial gaze developed
against foreigners in early Hollywood travel films. Ann Kaplan comments on early travel films in
Hollywood, Science and Cinema: The Imperial and the Male Gaze in Classic Film and states that:
They [travelers] mainly went to dominate, exploit and to use the Other for their own ends. (61). For
this reason, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right after the audience gazes and criticises Kong for the first time, Denham asks the press to take the
first photographs of Kong and his captors. As the sixteen photographers begin to take pictures, Kong
roars in fury. Since Denham is only interested in the profit that can be generated from the press, he
quickly calms the audience and tells the photographer to capture a photo of Ann (Fay Wray) and
Driscoll (Bruce Cabot). A closeup of the flashing cameras is shown and then Kong gets out of control.
It is worthy to mention that Kong had not roared as loud as in this scene (not on stage at least) to
notice that the flash was what triggered Kong to act in a savage manner. It is then clear that the use of
technology enraged Kong because he felt estranged and threaten. The camera symbolizes how the
white traveler dehumanizes the foreign individual and reproduces this visualization to the rest of the

  • 4. Role Of Doctors And The Medical System In Mrs Dalloway Doctors and The Medical System in Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway is a piece of literature that helped to push forward a culture of writing that she felt was otherwise stuck. Along with a style that transcended how people thought about telling a story, was the commentary. The story is riddled with commentary on politics, society, war, class, and the medical system. Virginia Woolf lets her worldviews bleed into her writing in a way that is somehow both subtle and also still direct. She lets the characters have their own experiences and dialogue, which show her views from different perspectives and without just coming out and saying it. The commentary that this is most evident in is Woolf s commentary on doctors and the medical system as a whole. Throughout Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf shows the incompetence of doctors and the medical system through Clarissa and Septimus s interactions with them. As the novel unfolds you begin to see more of the commentary on the medical system leak into the story. When the novel begins, Clarissa is leaving to go out for a walk around the town. Clarissa hasn t been able to get out as much as she has liked because she has struggled with her own illnesses that have kept her presumably somewhat bed ridden. Although Clarissa s interactions with the doctors in this story are not necessarily direct, it is made known that she has at least some distain for the time in her life that she was struggling with her health. ... The 4.5 percentage is at a low compared to the 4.7 unemployment rate from 2016 and the 6.7 unemployment rate from the Fed s. Although this drop means that the creation and attaining of jobs for citizens has increased, there is still an issue. The specific unemployment known as structural unemployment has increased, meaning that many workers are only working part time or have been subjected to lower paying jobs. Janet Yellen, Federal Reserve Chair, explains that most job growth has come from food service industries and low paying retail such as being an associate at Target or Sears. These increased job fillings make it seem that unemployment rate is low when the high paying job positions are not increasing. Yellen considers the real unemployment rate to be a more accurate representation of the current state of unemployment in the nation. As opposed to the official unemployment rate (U 3), the real unemployment rate (U 6) considers those who are marginally attached and discouraged rather than just those who have looked for a job in the past four weeks and are unemployed. This research gives insight into the underlying neural mechanisms and also demonstrates substantial hormonal control over human behavior. Frequently, individuals assume the lower, the better, but in the case of this form of diet, it is best to focus on the proper amount of carbs. The reason for this is that carbohydrates are necessary to the body from the viewpoint of nutrition and health. To comprehend this better, it is a great idea to discover how carbs are processed by the human body. Food items like rice, grains, pasta, and bananas consist of substantial amounts of carbohydrates. When people eat these foods, the starch is converted into glucose. Most of this is utilized through the body as energy. Excess energy will be changed into glycogen and stored by the body. It is important to note that the body has a constant need for glucose. It is also important to note that carbohydrates are not necessarily bad for the system in all cases. As long as people have the correct quantity in their diets, this cannot really become a problem. Once again, some kind of workout is also needed to work off some of the extra carbs in the system. When anyone take in much more of this substance than their bodies need, some of the excess will be kept as fat and this is where carbs may become an issue. ... • 9. Essay about Analysis of Anne Sexton s Poem Her Kind Analysis of Anne Sexton s Poem Her Kind Anne Sexton was a poet and a woman, but most importantly, she was an outcast. Subjected to nervous breakdowns and admitted to a neuropsychiatry hospital, Sexton must have been all too familiar with the staring eyes and the judging minds of the public. Just being a woman in today s world often can be enough to degrade a person in the public s eye, let alone being labeled as a crazy woman. But Anne Sexton did not let society remain unchallenged in its views. She voiced a different opinion of women through poetry. In Anne Sexton s Her Kind the speaker of the poem embraces society s negative stereotype of modern, liberated women and transforms it into a positive image. Two voices, the voice of ... This distancing shows how she is different from society; perhaps society pushes her away because she is different, or perhaps society sees her as different because she has segregated herself from the typical lifestyle of civilization. Either way, the voice of society chants, A woman like that is misunderstood (Line 13). Society must get rid of her because it cannot see her point of view. Moreover, Anne Sexton uses stunning imagery to illustrate the pain society inflicts on an outcast. The speaker compares herself to a witch who has been carted off to an insane asylum and claims I have ridden in your cart, driver, I waved my nude arms at villages going by, I learning the last bright routes (Lines15 17). She vividly describes pain through torture methods practiced on witches during the Inquisition. For example, she feels she has been burned at the stake because society s flames still bite my thigh (Line 18). The speaker s ribs crack where your wheels wind (Line 19) on another torture device, the wheel. The words still in the phrase still bite (Line 18) stresses that tortures have not gone out of style but have merely changed shape, and society still employs them to resist the change in power towards women. Although the physical tortures are no longer obvious in America, women s success is still lagging because of the attitude of society. The public supposes that she is not ... A sharp departure from traditional economics, it is surrounding by some questions. Historical roots of behavioral economics could be found in eighteenth century. In that time, Smith had no idea about the exact theory of decision making, however his paper played substantial role in development of behavioral economics. Smith s idea was almost discarded until Great Depression, when economists such as Irving Fisher and Vilfredo Pareto returned to the concept of human factor to explain the stock market crash by considering these individuals deviations from the rationality. For Giovanni s family, cooking and eating is a set of cultural rituals and the making of an experience. It is a part of a performance art, not just a consumption product. Another central quality of this family s lifestyle is essentially work. Puma writes: With Johnny s help, father and son would finish up by eleven instead of after midnight for the father alone. The next morning Johnny would still be sleepy, and his mother would tickle his toes until he climbed out of bed for breakfast with his sister and brother. By then his father would already be on the subway headed again for the pastry shop Downtown (From the Margins 86). This shows that Giovanni s life centers around work. Giovanni spends most of his time working about six days a week. He is doing this in order to support his family. In another scene when Johnny is making dough, he sees bugs in the flour, and Giovanni also accidentally knocks cigarette ashes into the flour. Giovanni shrugs it off as if it is no big deal. Famine Affluence And Morality Peter Singer Summary In Peter Singer s article, Famine, Affluence, and Morality, he proposes the question: What are the moral implications of a situation like the one in Bengal (230)? In order to answer this question Singer presents at least two arguments which involve what one ought to do and the moral consequences of not acting or pursuing our moral obligations. His first and central conclusion is that we ought to behave in such a way as to decrease suffering and death as a result of lack of food, shelter and medical care. Assuming that the aforementioned events are bad Peter singer argues that we are morally obligated to help relieve great suffering of the sort that occurs as a result of famine or other disasters as long as we can without sacrificing something else of comparable moral importance (238). In fact, he goes so far as to present an additional conclusion that not acting or pursuing our moral obligation to help is unjustifiable and wrong and we must then change our moral schema about the obligations we have to others. • 18. Summary Of Remembering My Childhood On The Continent Of... Patrice Tseh E1o1 Professor Jones 10/11/2017 Journal Entry #2 David Sedaris s Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of Africa Journal Response In the comparison and contrast essay, Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of Africa, by David Sedaris, the author talks about the jealousy he feels towards the excitement present in his friend Hugh s life. David Sedaris explores the contrast in the dullness of his own childhood with the adventurous lifestyle of his friend s childhood. Using descriptions, personal experiences of his friend and himself, and language, Sedaris explains why he takes satisfaction in passing his friend s stories as though they were his own since the stories were more interesting. The field trips, environment, and activities all contribute in the development of the difference in lifestyle between them. The subject of Sedaris s comparison and contrast in this essay is to show the aspects of both Hugh and the author s childhood, that would cause the author to feel proud using his friend s stories as his own. For instance, the author states that, When I was young I went to the theater at the nearby shopping center and watched a movie about a talking Volkswagen... Like me, Hugh saw the movie by himself on a weekend afternoon. Unlike me, he left the theater two hours later, to find a dead man hanging from a telephone pole at the far end of the unpaved parking lot (Sedaris 182). The quote above indicates that the author is being naïve and childish. No boy or child who is as young as he was should feel pleasure in seeing a dead person. The thesis of this essay is as follows, Certain events are parallel, but compared with Hugh s, my childhood was unspeakably dull. When I was seven years old, my family moved to North Carolina. We had a collie and a house cat. When he was seven years old, Hugh s family moved to the Congo. They had a monkey and two horses named Charlie and Satan. I threw stones at stop signs. Hugh threw stones at crocodiles (Sedaris 181). This clearly informs the reader that the author is envious of Hugh s childhood since his was extremely boring. For much of history, parenting practices were passed down from family or based on religious beliefs. However, during the late nineteenth and twentieth century, the way children were raised started to drastically change. Parents began seeking scientific advice from researchers instead of clergymen. The systematic study of child development prompted the emergence of child rearing experts and parental advice literature, which would fundamentally change the way American children were raised. Child savers paved the way for a sustained public commitment to children s welfare. The child saving movement started in the late eighteenth century. American cities were home to some of the worst conditions for children. Poor youths roamed the streets begging for money and looking for food scraps. The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch is a triptych done in the Renaissance period. A triptych is a painting or relief carving that has three different panels and are hinged together side by side. I first came across this painting in my art history class in high school and from then on I loved it due to all the imagery, colors, and the overall meaning that it had. Ever since then this artwork has left a big imprint and got me to think about art as much more than a picture, but to look at it as a whole and analyze it. This painting always seemed interesting and intriguing for a couple of reasons. There are many themes going on, the colors are very monochrome but yet look vivid and life like, and it has a very deep meaning with the themes of mortality, sin, and shows the end results for evil doings. The triptych has three different panels and all three have their own story to tell. When the triptych is closed and both left and right sections are shut you see the world in tones of gray or neutral colors. At the uppermost left corner of the closed sections you can see a depiction of God looking down at the world with an open book in his hands. • 29. Analysis Of Ibsen s Hedda Gabler Alexandria Cruz English 215 Prof. Dalton August 18, 2014 Assignment #3 Question 1 Since the beginning of time there have always been a particular set of societal and gender roles for men and women. Some were very openly known and others were known without even being said. The story of Hedda Gabler by Ibsen Henrick tells the story of what seems to be a disturbed woman and her manipulative charades that ultimately lead to her suicide. As one may say Hedda deserved her fate others may sympathize with Hedda and understand the pressures that were being placed upon her from society. During the Victorian period gender roles were strictly enforced and women had a certain place in society and that was it. Ibsen Henrick understood this and painted a vivid picture of the everyday life for women during the time and how lonesome, unfulfilling, and (INSERT WORD) it could have been for some. Granted not all women felt this way because they were so consumed by the society and tradition they merely followed suit, but there were women who began to feel the need to want more out of life and to be empowered and have control over their own destiny and Hedda Gabbler was one of those women. I don t believe Hedda was just a disturbed and vindictive woman. I believe Hedda was a victim of societal pressure and her own circumstances and they drove her to do things she would not normally do if she was happy in her own home and in a more free and comfortable place in life. The Victorian time period was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. What Are Iago s Evil Deeds In Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, the antagonist Iago serves as a wicked puppeteer, manipulating the strings of each involved character. His spite and cruelty leads to the tragic downfall of not Othello, Desdamona, Rodrigo, and himself. He looked down on others, especially women, and shaped himself into a cloaked figure who pulled strings for his own gain. Iago proves that when ill will and means to spread it come into contact, misery will follow. Iago is a spiteful, manipulative, and cunning tactician who nearly found a means to reach an end that suited him. He sounds like a monster, yet Iago may be the most human of all the characters. Iago s spite opens a Pandora s Chest brimming with the world s evils; if we look back to the beginning of the play, his motives were to punish Othello for awarding the position of lieutenant to Michael Cassio and not himself. I told him what I thought, and told no more than what he himself was apt and true. (5, 2, 3513 3514). Iago explains that the entire time, he told Othello fabricated truths in order to make the Moor draw misaligned conclusions. This realization was shown in the documentary Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore. Throughout the film Michael Moore shows us many examples of why America has problems with guns. However after watching one realizes that the problem isn t with guns but within the American people instead. When the film first begins we see Michael Moore going to a bank a getting a rifle from a bank just for opening a bank account. Another within the documentary says that Marilyn Manson and violent computer games/movies is to blame for the Columbine shootings. Germany has a considerably larger amount of goth population when compared to the US but their gun violence is twenty nine times less than the US . Japan also watches very violent movies and plays a lot of violent video games, however their gun related deaths are two hundred and eighty five times less than ours. • 33. Suffering With Food Poisoning Caused By Salmonella Sp Essay Scenario C The patient in this scenario C was suffering with food poisoning caused by Salmonella sp. Non typhoid Salmonella sp. causes inflammation of the digestive tract (enterocolitis). Common symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, myalgia and watery non bloody diarrhoea usually appear between 8 and 72 h after the ingestion of a pathogen (D Aoust, 1994). Human salmonellosis is self limiting infection, nevertheless patients are advised to replace fluid and electrolytes (D Aoust, 1994). Sometimes the progression of enterocolitis into local infections via blood stream can occur (D Aoust, 1994; D Aoust, 1991). The infection process is very complex due to numerous virulent factors of the pathogen. In order to enter the small intestine a bacterium must first overcome the antimicrobial activity of saliva enzyme, lactoperoxidase and the low pH of digestive fluid in the (D Aoust, 1991). Cytotoxin present on the bacterial cell wall disturb membrane integrity of the host cells which contribute to bacterium attachment and to cell invasion (D Aoust, 1991). Salmonella attaches itself to the intestinal epithelial cells by fimbriae. Pathogens enter epithelial cells by membrane bound vesicle, this process is known as bacteria mediated endocytosis (D Aoust, 1991). Bacterium then divide and invade mucosa layer. Readers see how the people of the neighborhood treat the angel throughout the story. They throw things at him, keep him in a chicken coop, make him a freak show attraction, and treat him like a wild animal. However, on the last page of the story, I found a passage that I consider significant to the story. The owner of the house and property on which the angel fell, Pelayo, offers some humane treatment to the angel. [The angel] could scarcely eat and his antiquarian eyes had also become so foggy that he went bumping into posts. All he had left were the bare cannulae of his last feathers. Pelayo threw a blanket over him and extended him the charity of letting him sleep in the shed (Marquez 932). Here, after the angel had been a caged spectacle, Pelayo finally treats the angel as he would a human, not an animal. The theme for this story could be humanity, or lack there of, and its consequences. The angel, in its sickly and ugly state, could have been testing the people of the neighborhood and their humanity. As the people continued to treat the angel poorly, the angel became sicker. However, once Pelayo treated the angel with humanity, even in its unfortunate state, it regained enough strength to fly away. V For Vendett The Role Of Anarchism In Society Every since it s ideas were popularized in the media by the 2006 movie, V for Vendetta, anarchism has been a topic of mass confusion and fierce discussion. In a general survey taken in Newton High School, 1 out 30 people surveyed actually knew the definition of anarchism, where as the remaining 29 people believe the ideas of anarchism are purely chaotic, and advocate for lawlessness, which leads me to the thesis statement of this essay: Anarchism is largely misconstrued in society. I m going to prove that my thesis statement is true through the use of 3 main points: 1. What anarchism truly is, 2. Different kinds of anarchism, and 3. The history of anarchism. For all anarchists, freedom of the individual is humanity s purest treasure, and it has become their chosen role to fight tirelessly for its survival. Even in the land of the free and home of the brave, unfettered freedom is sought by few men, for it is a condition full of peril and heavy with responsibility. Nor is the United States as close to the spirit of its national anthem as it once was. The frontier is gone. Small farms and personal businesses are giving way to agricultural combines and big industry, and the individual standing alone finds he has little influence in selecting his leadership or shaping national policy. (Forman, 75). Using this excerpt from James D. Forman s book Anarchism, political innocence or social violences? , one can deduce what anarchism is. Anarchism is a political theory, which is skeptical of the justification of authority and power, especially political power. As I mentioned early, Anarchy and Anarchism are two things, Anarchy is a condition of life without the intrusion of governance and the mechanisms and institutions of the state, whereas Anarchism is essentially the ideology in which Anarchy is achieved. That being said, there is a problem that occurs. some anarchists believe that the best and only way to achieve anarchy is through anarchism. However, scientific advancement has produced a new breed of genetic engineering. Scientists are now able to actually insert genes from one organism into the DNA of another (Goldbas 20). This is incredibly ironic because all GMO foods are grown with the use of pesticides. If the scientists properly understood GMOs, then the number for GMOs would be no greater than the number for pesticides. They contradict themselves by having a lower opinion of pesticide use than GMOs. Distinguished environmental journalist Paul Koberstein reports the GMOs are grown using some [pesticides] which have been shown to be highly toxic to the environment and humans, like atrazine, chlorpyrifos, as well as potentially hazardous insecticidal proteins that are genetically embedded into the plant (49). • 37. The Golden Age And The Golden Age I have found myself thinking back to the first grade when comparing my time in that period of my life to the golden age. In the first grade I relied on people more than ever for the basic necessities that I needed at that time. I was sent to Bancroft Elementary School and it is located in Andover, Massachusetts. At this point I was somewhat unknowingly guided through the first grade and it ended up sharing many similarities with the golden age. The golden age is when man did not have to worry about what is needed in the basic human life, this includes fighting, food, shelter, and justice. In this young grade I recall vividly of not having a worry for any necessities that play a key part in everyday life. When I was told to go to lunch I ended up eating the food given, but I was knowledgeable on how it got on my plate; moreover, there seemed to be peace and a lack of physical violence throughout the grade. This thought of having peace, food, little work, and having a roof over your head in the first grade shares many similarities with what man experienced in the golden age. In the first grade I did not understand the idea where justice and peace develops from; however, reflecting on this now I can understand how this is something that I would have found to be insignificant while being in the first grade. When I went to the first grade the safety protocols were not as commonly practiced as they are current day. I had felt a sense of safety even though I may not have been able ... They were originally categorized by their hardware design, but today clients are categorized by the software application design and where the bulk of the processing is done and where the bulk of the application software is stored. These terms are the contents of the contract, which determine the parties rights and obligations. Consequently, the law classifies the terms in two ways. Firstly, the law can look at the terms according to the consequences of breach involving the nature of each term as a condition, warranty or innominate. Secondly, they may investigate the method through which the terms got into the contract, explicitly or implicitly. Courts have the option to examine these two methods to reach an understanding of the obligations of each party in the contract breached by one party. In reference to the first method, this essay will focus on the ability of implicit terms to enter into a contract. An implicit term is not expressly agreed to by the parties, but nevertheless are either read into the contract or arise from other sources of law. To clarify, parties may not have expressly included the term due to forgetfulness, previous contract with the party or because it may have been obvious due to the parties presence in the same trade. If the parties do not include a term, the court can imply a term for business efficacy. This is done in order to make a contract work.
