Medium Egg Experiment
As a class, we wanted to determine if there really was a difference between large eggs and medium
eggs. If the large eggs did not have a larger mass than medium eggs it would be reasonable to
conclude that large and and medium eggs are, in fact, the same size. First, we had half the class
measure medium eggs, while the other half measured the large eggs. After we had found the masses of
both medium and large eggs we compiled our data. The mean of both types of eggs were found
leading toward a comparison using the t test. Based on the evidence, the null hypothesis was rejected.
It was reasonable to conclude that there was a difference between both medium and large eggs. The
results did not support our hypothesis which is: there is not a difference ... Show more content on

The largest medium egg was about equal to the smallest large egg. The mean of the medium eggs was
48.84 grams (s.d. +/ 1.86114). The large eggs ranged from 53.34g to 65.98. The mean of these
numbers is 59.76 (s.d. +/ 3.84559). The t test was calculated to be 0.702 proving the null hypothesis
wrong.
DISCUSSION
The findings show that there is a difference in the medium and large eggs. Large eggs were found to
weigh more than the medium eggs. If medium eggs would have had similar mean weights we could
have concluded that both sets of eggs are the same.
The t test showed us that the null hypothesis was not present between both sets of eggs; also, voiding
our original hypothesis stating that there was not a difference between between medium and large
eggs.
Although this experiment was completed with precise care, there may be some inaccuracies present
such as the cracking of an egg. Although this may be an inaccuracy, it is highly unlikely that this had
any significant impact on the data.
The evidence shown leads the conclusion that medium eggs and large eggs are different. Although this
might be true for this particular brand, there is no guarantee this is true for other brands of

The Job Of The 3 Job Postings
The 3 job postings I choose to look at an IT specialist at Greater Houston Interventional Pain
Associates in Bellaire, TX. An IT Desktop Engineer position at Northwest Community Hospital in
Arlington Heights, IL. A Internet Systems Administrator at Lincoln Financial Group, locations in
Greensboro, NC; Omaha NE; Fort Wayne, IN.
Each job involves support on a computer system, more specifically the IT specialist and IT desktop
engineer have a focus on hardware and software components of computers, which I m very familiar
with. The internet systems administrator focuses on network systems and web infrastructure support, I
am not that knowledgeable in network configurations and setup of the network. I know there is a lot of

I have a great understanding in operating and troubleshooting the Windows OS. The internet systems
admin requires knowledge in the Linux OS. I am very familiar with installing Linux and the basic
functions of it, but I am not comfortable with saying I know how to troubleshoot and work heavily
with a Linux OS. More specifically the position requires knowledge in two distributions of Linux, I m
only familiar with the basic Red Hat distribution, but I know of several other types. Understanding
and operating Linux is important in IT especially in the Networking and web fields as a majority of
those systems are run with Linux. Web servers and host a majorly run with Linux. Linux is vital to
understand as there is note many people knowledgeable in it, however, it is a very challenging system
to learn and something I need to practice at.
Expanding upon Linux, I have a strong desire to learn it. While at my internship at Harris, one of the
people with whom I worked closely with was a master of Linux. It is a very intriguing operating
system that is highly flexible. It has the highest security as its code is unique because it is open source,
which allows for it to be programmed into any system. I have seen Linux based software used to hack
into a computer, duplicate hard drives, and emulate systems.
The IT specialist requires some knowledge using the cloud services. I m not sure if that includes
knowing how to set those up services or making apps within those

Self-Destruction In Stephen Crane s Untitled
There is a strain between what is good for the body and the reality of human nature. Individuals know
mistakes will occur, but they do not understand how to nurture themselves. Because of this reality,
people tear themselves apart, thinking it is the reasonable reaction. In Stephen Crane s poem, Untitled,
symbolism and religious indicators illustrate the theme of self betrayal.
Firstly, nature is typically fruitful; however, a desert is the antipode of this definition. Most plants
cannot grow in the desert climate, creating a barren, unwelcoming environment; this is where Stephen
Crane places his poem. The naked, bestial (2) creature the narrator sees is the only other living object
in this desert, representing self destruction. Innate in one s being, self destruction sucks dry a once
blossoming environment, turning oneself into a hell or purgatory like habitat. Life is difficult, yet self
destruction makes one bitter. The heart is bitter bitter, (7) says the creature. Although a typical human
wouldn t know what a heart tastes like, the fact it is described as bitter puts the reader off. Rather ...

Given the creature is self destruction, the presence of the narrator illustrates one s contentment in
giving in to the process. Using the phrase my heart (10) creates the connection between the individual
and the destruction. Without the connection, one could distance oneselves from their exterior and their
interior. One can have power over this self hatred; however, I is simply watching as the creature ruins
the core of the body. The narrator tries to appeal to the creature by calling it friend, (6) but this is not
enough for it to stop eating the heart. Instead, the individual makes small talk. In a way, this appeal
demonstrates one s offering of self care. One s heart being the fruit of one s labor; the narrator gives
up. Primal and controlled beasts become one with the last

Museums Issues With Open-Air Photographs
Even though there was still to a certain extent a paternalistic tenor in the diction of the event
organizers, the change in the roles, functions and perspectives of the participants marked forms of
appropriation that clearly went beyond the participatory initiatives, which had been expressed since
the end of the 1970s in the debate about the task and function of museums.10 In Tejgadh participation
meant to be observer and observed at the same time, with alternating perspectives and interests. For
the period of the presentation, the photographs caused in a way that is not unlike the qualitative
sociological interview process of the photo elicitation all of the viewers, regardless of their social,
professional or disciplinary background, to act and speak both about the customs and conventions of
earlier generations of the indigenous population of India, their current meaning and the specific
characteristics of everyday life today, as well as about the ways in which photography is used in the
context of scientific research and local social politics. They exposed the preconceptions and
expectations with which the local organizers as well as the European scientists had contextualized the
event in advance. Without appearing with respective stable profiles and clearly differentiated from one
another the different audiences performed themselves and in relationship to one another. A fluid,

Comparing One Flew Over The Cookoo s Nest And The Movie
In the 1950 s, clashes between communism and capitalism have dominated the decade. Although it
wasn t always easy, the United States experienced an important economic and home construction
growth. The fifty s weren t always easy but it made place to a lot of improvement in the US
government and in the society. In this text I will talk to you about the similarities and differences
between the novel One Flew Over the Cookoo s Nest and the movie. First of all, the story took place
in hospital in Oregon in the late fifty s and early sixty s. The World War II is still present in the
community s head. The hospital is a world of regulations, routine, and discipline in which Nurse
Ratched has a full control. Nurse Ratched also does all what she can to keep the outside world away
from the patients. Chief Bromden, the narrator, has been a patient in the Oregon psychiatric hospital
for ten years. Bromden suffers from paranoia and it is very easy to understand all along the story. In
the hospital, all the patient are men and they are all divided on a particular way. All the men that can
not be cured are together and all the others that can be cured and together too. The hospital is ruled by
Miss Rached, an army Nurse that is very mechanical. Everything starts when Randle McMurphy
enters the hospital. Bromden see s right away that McMurphy is not like the other patients. After
experiencing his first meeting directed by nurse Ratched, McMurphy tells the other patients that the

Non-Diegetic Techniques In Still Alice

Familial Alzheimer s Disease. The director .......... has used Sounds, Costumes and Cinematography in
the film to develop the character of Alice Howland and encourage audiences to connect with her. Non

As Alice s Alzheimers progresses, her costumes change to reflect the progression of the disease. At the
beginning of the film Alice s character presents as a well dressed middle aged woman wearing clothes
that suited her body type and her everyday life. An example of this is at the beginning of the film
when Alice had to do presentation she was neat and well dressed in business attire for her age.
Gradually throughout the film her clothing became more underdressed and her appearance became
more dishevelled. When Alice and her husband John are at their family beach house Alice is portrayed
wearing basic clothing such as a plain black tee and jeans. This is in stark contrast to the professional
clothing that Alice is dressed in as a university lecturer at the beginning of the film. This highlights
how important costume is as a technique to reflect the storyline and character development. By the
end of the film Alice is physically unable to dress herself. Alice s husband, John dresses Alice to visit
their daughter in hospital who just had twin babies. Costume is particularly demonstrated and
pronounced in this scene particularly when comparing to the beginning of the film where Alice is a
highly independent and well dressed professional. Costumes play a major role in the development of
Alice Howland throughout her journey of having early onset Alzheimer s disease. At the start of the

War Of The Worlds Chapter 1 Summary
War of the Worlds Chapter One Despite its location, Dot s Donut Shop was about to get famous. I
mean, being the crash site for the second wave of aliens on earth can earn quite the reputation, and
what are the odds I would be working there that very day? Well, to understand my position entirely,
we need to go back to the beginning. In 1939, the U.S. declared itself a neutral country in the
European conflict that would come to be known as World War II. In 1941, Franklin Roosevelt became
the first and only president elected for three terms. Later that year, Japan attacked the U.S. at Pearl
Harbor. These events spiraled into the earth changing event that was the bombing of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. Many scientists believe this to be the event that caused the Invasion, as it sent some sort of
radioactive wave throughout the galaxy. Although people tend to may disagree with each other, there
was no doubt that it was a devastating blow to the entire world. The Roswell crash in 1947 was the
first contact we had with any species not from Earth. Although the creature didn t survive long enough
to greet us, it seems it was alive long enough to send a distress signal, calling the rest of its friends. We
scavenged what we could from the wreckage, using it to create new technologies that advanced our
world by a couple hundred years. What would have taken us 100 ... Show more content on

the entrance to investigate the explosion. I figured a gas line had burst, or a car had malfunctioned and
crashed. I certainly didn t expect to see something I had seen in a museum. Honestly, what I saw was

Norman, Oklahoma was a sight to behold. Just north of the North Canadian River, which is the main
tributary of the Canadian River, which in turn is the largest tributary of the Arkansas River, Abner
Ernest Norman led his federal surveying crew to what would develop into the town bearing his
namesake. Norman, a 23 year old surveyor from Kentucky, was hired to oversee part of this project.
Norman s work crew set up camp near what is today the corner of Classen and Lindsey streets; it was
there that the men, perhaps jokingly, carved a sign on an elm tree that read Norman s Camp, in honor
of their young boss. (Mills) In 1866, the United States signed ... Show more content on

Business Ethics And Practices Of Goldman Sachs
Assignment 1
Q1 What was up with Wall Street? The Goldman Standard and Shades of Gray.
Go back through the case; make a list of each action/ practice that could be called a gray area.
The problems to be investigated are the business ethics and practices of Goldman Sachs. There were
several grey areas in which Goldman Sachs operated their business.
Ethical Grey areas are situations and problems that don t fit neatly into any existing mode of ethical
analysis within the business (Marshall, 2007). Peter Drucker s interpretation of business ethics is that
personal ethics and business ethics cannot be separated. He uses the example of businessmen should
not cheat, steal, lie, bribe, or take bribes. But nor should anyone else. He also mentioned that men and
women don t acquire exemption from ordinary rules of personal behavior because of their work or job
(Drucker, 1986).
The first grey area was Goldman Sachs using a technique called layering . Goldman would start a
company and used their own money to buy 90% of the shares. The public would see how the stocks
were selling so quickly and wanted a piece of the pie. The public were unaware that Goldman was
buying their own stocks and then continuously increasing the price of the stock and selling it back at
the higher price. Goldman saw how well this was working and decided to continue with this practice.
He started new companies and followed the same formula as before, making bags of money, while
investors had no idea

Chinese Culture vs. American Culture in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
An author s cultural background can play a large part in the authors writing. Amy Tan, a Chinese
American woman, uses the cultural values of Chinese women in American culture in her novel, The
Joy Luck Club. These cultural values shape the outcome of The Joy Luck Club. The two cultural value
systems create conflict between the characters.
In The Joy Luck Club, the chapter Waiting Between the Trees illustrates major concerns facing
Chinese American women. Chinese culture is a male dominated culture that leaves women little
freedom. Their only job is to make their male spouses content. Living with their traditional culture in

She was very pretty when she was a young girl. She was educated like every Chinese woman used to
be: To be obedient, to honor one s parents, one s husband and to try to please him and his family. Ying
Ying was not taught to use her own digression and make her own way through life.
The result of this education was a disaster due to the differences in values between the two cultures.
Ying Ying realized that her marriage was a mistake when her husband left her for another woman. Her
love for him turned to hate and she killed her unborn baby. She felt great remorse for this and
considered herself a murderer. She later remarried a gentleman by the name of St. Clair. With St. Clair
she had a daughter. After her second son, which was her third child, died at birth, Ying Ying had a
mental breakdown. She saw his death as a punishment for the murdering her first son.
Ying Ying became passive and lifeless after her second son died. She kept the fact that she felt
responsible for her second sons death a secret from her husband and daughter, Lena. As shown in this
example, Ying Ying had Chinese cultural values in an American society. This produces the conflict
between cultures. Ying Ying becomes so passive that she lets her husband make all of her decisions
for her.
Lena St.Clair, on the other hand, was born in America and lives like an American girl. But when she
was born, she sprang from me like a slippery fish, and had been swimming away ever since,

The Arab Spring During The Middle East And North African...
The Arab Spring brought revolutionary changes to the Middle East and North African region s
authoritarian republics while bypassing its autocratic monarchies. The monarchical exceptionalism
that has allowed these states to remain intact is due to a set of three overlapping factors crosscutting
coalitions, hydrocarbon rents, and foreign patronage. Collectively, these factors explain why most of
the royal autocracies never experienced widespread protest.
The eight Arab monarchies Jordan, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and the Persian Gulf states of Bahrain,
Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE hold near absolute power. According to the Gause article, none of
the states qualify as constitutional kingships in which the enthroned incumbent exercises only
ceremonial influence while an elected parliamentary government makes policy. The region s kings and
emirs not only reign but they also rule. They are the lead decision makers in naming cabinets,
determining major domestic and foreign policies, controlling the state s coercive apparatus, and
allowing parliaments and judiciaries limited authority (Gause). According to Gause, the first element
of the strategic explanation for monarchical exceptionalism is one that links the historical legacy of
domestic choices with a permissive international environment. The majority of the monarchies have
used the tool of crosscutting coalitions thereby linking alliances of different social constituencies to
the ruling family. In general, dictators cannot

The Freedom Of Rights In The First Amendment
The rights protected in the First Amendment are essential to the functioning of a free society in that
they provide the means through which the ideas outlined in the Declaration of Independence are
fulfilled. In the First Amendment, the power of Congress is limited by prohibiting the creation of laws
regarding the establishment or restriction of religion, and the abridgement of the freedom of speech, of
press, to peaceably assemble, or to petition the government. Without these fundamental rights, the
voice of minorities would be silenced and societal development would not occur. Eighteenth century
Americans considered freedom of religion to be an essential right that protected both church and state.
Many colonists came to America to escape religious persecution, and believed religion helped to
develop individual character. The establishment and free exercise clauses help develop the character of
individuals needed to maintain a free society. Moreover, freedom of speech allows people to compare
and discuss their ideas regarding ethics, politics, morals, and public issues; as English philosopher and
political economist John Stuart Mill stated, progress can occur only when all points of view can be
expressed and considered. In a free society, the policies of government are determined by the will of
the people, so the people must be well informed. Additionally, the freedom of speech, and the right to
assemble, petition, and associate guaranteed in the First Amendment are

Dr. Hart Case
1. What are 1 2 issues/items that you agree with that he discusses in the video?
Of the issues, Dr. Hart discussed I agreed with the idea that crimes and poverty still exist outside of
addiction and the attractive alternatives to drugs can help deter the selection of that pathway.
Personally, I agree that crime and poverty aren t a consequence of drug use rather a precursor to the
act of. In some circumstances, the only way to get by in the eyes of an individual is to sell drugs and
in the process a habit is picked up. In other situations, crimes occur and throughout the process drugs

Hart about was decriminalizing all drugs. I think that by doing this we would have a bigger issue on

handle it would be to re evaluate our current laws. I don t think it would be helpful to say meth, crack,
heroin, and all that fall under that umbrella are free for use. The way I see it, people will start to take
advantage. There would be no regulations, no guidelines to follow. The way Dr. Hart is proposing, I
feel would backfire. What I would suggest is to start looking at laws and seeing where adjustments are

Before watching this TED talk, I had no clue that the one hit and you re hooked phrase came from

only a lever which could be pulled to supply a dosage of a certain drug. The idea that only only one hit

lever to pull and nothing else to occupy their time. With new research, it was shown that one hit does

Essay about The Death Penalty
The most severe of all sentences: that of death. Also known as the death penalty, capital punishment is
the most severe form of corporal punishment as it is requires law enforcement officers to kill the
offender. It has been banned in many countries. In the United States, an earlier move to eliminate
capital punishment has now been reversed and more and more states are resorting to capital
punishment for serious offenses such as murder. In this essay, I will elaborate on capital punishment
and on the cases of Joe Guy, Tommy Zeigler, Leroy Orange, and Charles Munsey.
The Bible mentions that one should not take another s life and people have been violating this for
centuries. We use it in reference to burglary, adultery, love and many ... Show more content on

Consider those jurisdictions that eschew capital punishment altogether. What sanction can such
jurisdictions really apply to those who have already been sentenced to life in prison without parole?
Sentences of this sort may take more lives overall by increasing the number of essentially
unpunishable within prison homicides of guards and fellow inmates.53 Many murderers are killed in
prison even in states that lack the death penalty.54 And if murderers are eventually paroled into the
general population, some of them will kill again. Overall, it is quite possible that the permanent
incapacitation of murderers through execution might save lives on net. A finding that capital
punishment deters and deterrence is our focus here is sufficient but not necessary to find a life life
tradeoff.
With this being said capital punishment is serving in a positive way. If capital punishment spectator
would look at it this way, and publicize it in a manner to get a message across to the violent offenders
these corrupt crime wave would drop dramatically.
In the case involving Joe Guy, he was convicted for his role in a 1993 convenience store robbery in

Architecture on a grand size would house a capacity between 1500 to 3000 people. Classic Greek and

The theater s wooden framework made at the builder s yard. Eventually taken apart and each piece

circular though in fact it had several short sides. At the site carpenters constructed the marks and set
up the frames. The walls filled with entwine wattle and plastered over. Thatcher s or tillers covered the
roof that sheltered the galleries. The painting of the Globe was described as gorgeous or beautiful. On
June 27, 1613 a fire broke out at the Globe Theatre by the cannons that were used for special effects. It
filled with gunpowder and wadding. The thatched roof caught fire and the Globe Theatre burned to the
ground. In 1614 the Globe Theatre rebuilt again and back in business. (3 7)
When Shakespeare would put on plays he would have them during the warmer months, throughout the

the dress costumes of their own. Fabulous costumes with vivid colors and aweing materials. Some
made especially for the actors while some donated by rich play goers. Globe plays had to be produced

Elizabethan audience had to beat the competition from rival theater. Not enough time seem available

e waste produced (7072 and 6033 kt). Although, even if the population of a country is higher, that
doesn t necessarily mean that higher e waste will be produced. In figure 3, it shows that there is no
correlation between the number of population and number of e waste generated in each country. Why
does higher population not necessarily mean higher e waste? That s because not everyone in that
country may be able to buy technology. People in those countries may be poor and e waste generation
is related to the amount of individual s income. Figure 4 suggests that electronic waste produced is
related to the income of consumers meaning the amount of e waste produced is increasing with the
buyers individual wealth a.k.a purchasing power.
Why should we recycle electronic wastes? Three reasons: Economics benefits, public health benefits,
and environmental benefits.
Economics Reasons:
Electronics wastes have a ton of valuable materials (see table 6), can provide jobs, provides better

Stereotypical Trope Of Falling In Love
Faking it is one of the very few queer shows out there on TV diving into the topic of exploration of
sexuality, and of course the stereotypical trope of falling in love with your best friend (not saying that
it s a bad thing it just brings up a lot of lesbian feels). It is about the main character, Amy, discovering
that she may not be as straight as she had thought through the process of realizing that she could be in
love with her best friend, Karma. Now I m not gonna go into too much depth about what this show is
about because I could be here forever and let s face it, no one wants that (also, there s Google no I m

The Importance Of Teaching And Learning
Teachers involving students in the learning process should require them to utilize thinking skills of
higher order. Teachers should also designed lesson plans that are rigorous but can be adaptable to each
student (whether students are general or special education) in the class. Educators should have
activities that will nurture social development and student responsibilities, as this will give them the
opportunity to exercise responsibility and practice interacting with others. Due to the fact students are
in high school, there are no rewards for good behavior being practice. However, punishment in the
class will be dealt with immediately in order to provide a stable environment of teaching and learning;
as policy and procedure is addressed for misconduct at the beginning of the year Teachers must
encourage students to use higher order thinking skills in order to involve them in the learning process,
(Bonwell Eison, n.d.). Higher learning thinking skills students should be using in and out the
classroom are analysis, synthesis, and evaluation, (Carlos, 2017). For instance, Ms. Carlos, an
instructor at McNair High School is teaching a lesson on Algebraic Concepts and understanding their
terms and formulas, she can involve the students in group discussions by having the students to work
formulas on the board. Another way she can have the students use high learning thinking is to include
various applications using the formulas in the lessons. One technique that is

Stroke Prevention
Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States (National Stroke Association, 2010).
Stroke is also a leading cause of disability. Approximately every 40 seconds someone in the United
States has a stroke which is about 795,000 per year (National stroke Association, 2010). The incidence
of stroke makes it a major health problem in the United States. Prevention and early intervention is the
key to reducing death and disability from stroke. Cost effective prevention strategies are needed for
the delivery of stroke awareness and prevention. A priority of our health care system should be to

Non modifiable risk factors for stroke are age, gender, race and ethnicity, and family history. The risk
for stroke doubles every 10 years after the age of 55 (Rosamound et al., 2007). African Americans
older than age 65 have two to five times the risk of stroke compared with Caucasian adults of a similar
age (Hylek et al., 2006). Hispanics have a higher incidence of stroke than Caucasians (Stroke
Association, 2010). According to the National Stroke Association (2010), approximately 55,000 more
women than men have a stroke each year. The target audience for this project will be people age 55 or
older. All individuals may take part in this program regardless of age. Stroke warning signs are an
important component in educating the community. Stroke warning signs include sudden paralysis,
weakness or numbness in the face, arm, or leg; sudden blurred or decreased vision in one or both eyes;
difficulty speaking or understanding simple statements; dizziness; loss of balance or loss of
coordination; and sudden intense headache (National Stroke Association, 2010). Decreasing the time
from stroke onset to hospital presentation depends on the stroke knowledge of the community. The act

great way to educate the public on what to do if someone is having a stroke. The acronym prompts

Stereotype Essay
Have you ever felt the impacts of a stereotype? Stereotypes can sometimes make people feel unwanted
around people and possibly uncomfortable in their own skin. There re many different types of
stereotypes but they all impact us negatively. Stereotypes can be defined as judgments that people
make about others without knowing them personally, and stereotypes impact our society in many
ways. For example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says that You have this
lens where you re looking at yourself through the lens of other people the way that they re looking at
you (Raz, Guy, and Jamila Lyiscott). In this quote Lyiscott is saying that stereotypes cause tension

Armon says It means, he answered lightly, that the child is not white; it means that you are not white

negatively impacted Desiree. Overall, the information given from the poem and story show s that
stereotypes affect the person you re making the assumption about more than the person judging that
person. Another stereotype is the parent and children relationship. For example, in the article Parents
Just Don t Understand is about parents opening up to their kids and being honest with them about real
life situations so they feel comfortable talking about sex, drugs, alcohol. The writer says when Uneeka
Jay s 15 year old son Shawn comes to the kitchen for a snack, that might be the exact moment she
asks him, You ever have sex? out of the blue (Wallace). In this quote Wallace is saying that being
honest and talking to your children about personal and serious situations is important no matter how
hard or weird it is to do. Also, in the article it talks about how children don t feel comfortable talking

The Character of Lady Catherine de Bourgh In Pride and...
Although typically overlooked by the inattentive reader, the minor character can serve a myriad of
literary roles from adding to the overall story elements to distinguishing the character s impact on the
plot. In Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, minor characters play a paramount role in advancing the
plot, reinforcing Austen s tone, and uniquely contributing to the work as a whole. Surprisingly, the
impact of a certain minor character upon the work is illuminated as well as expatiated when analyzed.
Lady Catherine de Bourgh has a much greater impact on the plot, characters, and theme of Pride and
Prejudice that her minor role would suggest. In this way, she advances the plot, emphasizes the theme

Similar to the way Austen defied social standards by writing in a time of prejudice against female
authors, Elizabeth defies the traditional social conventions of marriage by refusing Mr. Collins s
proposal, as well as by ignoring Lady Catherine s demands. Elizabeth sarcastically brushes off Lady
Catherine s threats to ruin her if she accepts Darcy s proposal as heavy misfortunes (305) and
distances herself from the situation by declaring that it will have no affect on [her] (305). In addition
to advancing the plot and contributing to the theme, Lady Catherine de Bourgh provides a satirical
image of the aristocracy, as well a foil to Mrs. Bennett through her immoderate pride and arrogance.
Lady Catherine s actions and beliefs as an aristocrat extend far past acceptable decorum to the point
that her immodesty satirizes her as an archaic relic spewing only hot air. Upon her arrival at the
Bennett household, she rudely scorns the Longbourn estate by referring to it as a very small park
(302). Lady Catherine also dispraises Elizabeth s upbringing by obnoxiously asserting that without a
governess [she] must have been neglected (142). Elizabeth underscores the hilarity of her ladyship s
assumptions by assuring her that had not been the case (143). Lady Catherine foolishly assumes that
her high social status will enable her to dissuade Elizabeth from marrying Darcy, and her declamation
to Elizabeth that honor, decorum, prudence,

The Annals of Tacitus Essay
Tacitus tells us in the introduction to his Annales that his intent is to relate a little about Augustus,
Tiberius, et cetera and to in fact do so sine ira et studio without bitterness or bias.1 Experience,
however, tells us that this aim is rarely executed, and that we must be all the more suspicious when it
is stated outright. Throughout the Annales, Tacitus rather gives the impression that his lack of bias is
evidenced by his evenhanded application of bitterness to all his subjects. But is this really the case?
While Tacitus tends to apply his sarcastic wit universally to barbarian and Roman alike this is not
necessarily evidence of lack of bias. Taking the destruction of Mona and Boudicca s revolt (roughly

The Vergilian references continue throughout the passage. Chapter 14.31 features an unusual use of
rebellio ( rebellationem ), used to describe rebelling tribes, only seen elsewhere in the Aeneid
(12.186), again in relation to the Trojans.5 Skipping ahead to the end 14.33, Tacitus describes the
rebellious Britons as being uninterested in belli commercium, or the commerce of war, i.e., the trading
and selling of hostages. This is another phrase borrowed from Vergil (Aeneid 10.532), used in fact by
Aeneas in denouncing the practice. The last Aeneid reference occurs in 14.34, immediately preceding
Boudicca s rallying speech which begins in 14.35: the use of exultabant to describe the Celtic armies
battle strategy.6 This is a usage derived from 11.663 of the Aeneid, which describes the warrior
Camilla, enemy of Aeneas, in a passage comparing her to Penthesilea and the Amazons, who actually
defended Troy during the war. Tacitus reminds his reader that there is a long tradition of comparing
enemies of Rome to noble allies of the past, and prepares us to see Boudicca as the heir of female
warriors like Camilla and Penthesilea. While Tacitus allusions are a relatively straightforward way of
transmitting his

Her results were immediate. She noticed that the element thorium gave off the same rays as uranium.
After a lot of research she came to the conclusion that radiation did not depend on the compound
being studied. She said that it depended on the amount of uranium or thorium. She concluded that
radiation did not depend on the arrangement of atoms in a compound in a molecule but rather the
interior of the atom itself. The discovery was considered to be revolutionary at the time. She continued
to test all elements on the Periodic Table of Elements. Only uranium and thorium gave off any sort of
radiation.
Her next experiment was quite simple. She wanted to test natural ores that contain uranium or
thorium. She gathered samples from geological museums and found that pitchblende was four to five
times active with small amounts of uranium. Pitchblende is a form of the mineral uraninite occurring
in brown or black pitch like masses. Her brand new hypothesis was that a new element that was
considerably more active than uranium was preset in small amounts of ore.
Pierre gave up his research of crystals which he was heavily dedicated to join Marie in her scientific
studies. They both found that strong reactions came from test samples containing bismuth or barium.
Following up on bismuth, Marie discovered that every time she took away an amount of bismuth, a
residue with greater activity was left behind. By 1898, the substance was 300 times the strength of

For the saltwater plumes, a saltwater plume is a horizontally moving body of saline fluid that is
contained in the larger, fresh body of water. The plumes come about when there is heavy retraction
from the aquifers resulting in a saltwater intrusion. In order to keep the plume from reaching any of
the retraction sites, or wells, we must keep a close eye on the pumping amounts at each well. For
instance, Georgia Pacific shuts their machinery down for two weeks every summer, this causes the
plume to shift from the middle of two well sites to the well site being used the most. This can cause
the quality of the water to lessen as the taste will become salty and bitter. While there is an unlimited

The Orectolobus Arctoae
The Orectolobus arctoae or more commonly known as the Arctic Wobbegong, just like every other
reproducing organism on this planet, goes through a process called natural selection. One adaptation
of this particular organism is the ability to camouflage to the sand of the Arctic Ocean with lighter
colored flesh [in comparison to its nimble yet sluggish cousin the Japanese Wobbegong]. The genetic
variations of this adaptation are flesh tones that are the same color of, lighter or darker than the sand
of the Arctic Ocean; which is uniquely lighter than that of the Indo Pacific. The O. arctoae
overproduces its offspring with one every two years. With a gestation period of 1 year and a lifespan
of approximately 50 years, this organism produces 25 pups over its lifetime. The limiting factors in the
environment of the Arctic Ocean that cause this adaptation are the threat of multiple species of large
whales and other predators. In the process of selection, the Wobbegongs whose flesh is closer to the
color of the sand are able to survive and reproduce viable offspring. Another adaptation of the Arctic
Wobbegong is the layer of blubber under the dermis found in many Arctic organisms. The genetic
variations of this adaptation are blubber depths that are thicker or thinner than the approximate 6

They Say By Michael Pollan
In the book They say. I say , Michael Pollan and Mary Maxfield have different formulas for eating.
Are the ideas that society has today differ or not? Michael Pollan believes that one should Eat food.
Not much. Mostly plants (426). What he explains in his idea is that one should eat real food and not
the processed. He also believes that the food industry is the one to blame for confusing people in what
they are eating because all of the food is being processed and it is not real. By this he explains how
America should quit obsessing over this French paradox and start obsessing over the French fry (442).
In contrast, Mary Maxfield argues that one should Trust yourself. Trust your body. Meet your needs.
Maxfield built up the BMI, a tool to measure one s body fat. Many people look into what is right and
wrong to eat. Mary Maxfield explains that yes, we can eat healthy, but we can also eat whatever we d
like and still survive. Because many people have different formulas and rules to follow when it comes
to eating, I believe that one has to set a goal for themselves. Be happy with achieving the goals one
sets and portion out the food. Setting up my own rules, I realized that Maxfield ideas had a little

The style of Felix and Fanny was very similar, mainly because they studied with the same teacher, and
grew up in the same environment. Moreover, they often exchanged musical opinions, and critiqued
each other s music when they grew up. Many historians say that Fanny was inspired by Felix, but
some of their works show that they were inspired by each others. Between November 1839 to May
1840 Fanny was traveling in Italy. A year later she composed Il Saltarello romano, a piano piece which
was inspired by her traveling experience. However, it contains a rhythmic pattern, and a motif which
is reminiscent of the last movement of Felix s Italian Symphony, composed in 1833. Therefore, it is
possible that Fanny was also inspired by her brother s symphony (Cooper amp; Prandi, 2002). On the
other hand, Felix s Andante in G major Op.62 No.1 from Songs Without Words Book 5 composed in
1844 is very similar to Fanny s Andante in G major Op.2 No.1 composed in 1836. These two Andante
have very similar openings which consisted of an anacrusis followed by a dominant seventh, then
resolved down. Moreover, it is obvious that Felix s Andante has a similar melodic structure to Fanny s.
Even through the Mendelssohn sibling s composition style were very similar, there are some
characteristic in Fanny s composition which are different from her brother s.
Fanny s style of composition is considered not as expressive as Felix s, but it is much

(JUSTIA).The movie relates to this because Ford infringed on Kearns patent (that was still under
protection) and Kearns claimed to have had a flash of creative genius (why can t a windshield wiper
blink like a human eye?). Because of this flash of genius, he came up with the idea for the intermittent

The Benefits Of Animal Captivity
Tartan Wires, malicious voices, and aching bodies are the majority of their lives. They re whipped to
the core, mentally beaten down. They have no strength, no voice, or significance. They are toys,
expect toys are cherished and cared for. They are ragdolls. They can be compelled easily and look how
you wish them to with just a little tinkering. They look attractive from afar, but the closer you get the
more obvious it becomes how much they have been overused and mistreated. They are Entertainment
animals. They have been in use since the late 1800 s when the first zoo opened. Since then, the
opportunities have shot through the roof. Animals are now not only in zoos, but films, live shows, and
in animal amusement parks. Animal Welfare allows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes sense to give people a glimpse into the animal world once in awhile, maybe even in hope to
slow down the risk of endangerment. What doesn t make sense and is not in any way reasonable are
the use of circus animals. The reason circus animals came to be is that zookeepers realized what a
drive people have to see exotic animals. They realized how much money people would pay just to see
an exotic animal in a cage, then imagined what they could earn by making them perform. What people
need to realize when they buy their tickets to the show is that these animals are not in any way meant
to perform. And even though these animals are often protected by state and local anticruelty laws, they
aren t often enough. The Ringling Brothers, for example celebrated their 146th year recently even
after being accused multiple times of abuse. It has been documented that The Ringling Brothers have
brutally beaten their elephants without medical attention, shot a tiger to death as payback for
disobeyment, and have had many unknown death causes in their time, yet they are about to celebrate
their 147th year on tour

Case Study: The Court Was Appalled
In Tomcik v. Ohio Dep t of Rehabilitation Correction, the plaintiff, Tomcik, was in the custody of the
defendant, a penal institution. Tomcik alleged that it was the delay in her examination that ultimately
led to the removal of her right breast; had she been seen in a more timely manner, much of the breast
could have been spared. The defendant, the corrections department, contended that even if it were
negligent, Tomcik s cancer was so advanced when discovered that it would nevertheless have required
removal of her breast. The Ohio Court of Appeals held that the delay in providing treatment to Tomcik
fell below the medically acceptable standard of care.
Summarize the Case: The Court Was Appalled.
Janet Tomcik, age 31, was assign to participate in the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction
center in the state of Ohio on April 28, 1989 for having burglar tools in her custody. The policy of the
institutes states every new inmate must have a physical examination to record current medical status.
Ms. Tomcik had her medical assessment done on May 26, 1989 by Dr. Evans. The next day she
inspected her own breasts and found a pea size lump in the right one. She notified medical personal
but she did not receive a re examination until June 21 by a nurse who stated the mass was large.

Dbq Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange was the widespread transfer of plants, animals, culture, human populations,
technology, and ideas between the Americas and the Old World in the 15th and 16th centuries, related
to European colonization and trade after Christopher Columbus s 1492 voyage. The Columbian
exchange affected some lives tremendously and others lives in relatively less significantly. The people
who were most strongly affected were the natives of the Americas and those of Africa. The Native
Americans were affected tremendously, mostly in negative ways. It is possible to say that they were
helped by the Columbian Exchange because the exchange brought new species of animals to the New
World. This improved the lifestyles of many native groups. However, the natives of the Americas were
devastated by the germs that came to the New World as part of the exchange. Infectious diseases like
smallpox are believed to have killed up to half of the of the native population since that population
had no resistance to those diseases. Europeans lives were generally enriched by the exchange.
Europeans got new foods like tomatoes and potatoes. They got corn and tobacco and chocolate. All of
these new foods diversified their diets and made them more interesting. Other Europeans enriched
themselves monetarily. Many Europeans came to the New World and ... Show more content on

  • 2. Medium Egg Experiment As a class, we wanted to determine if there really was a difference between large eggs and medium eggs. If the large eggs did not have a larger mass than medium eggs it would be reasonable to conclude that large and and medium eggs are, in fact, the same size. First, we had half the class measure medium eggs, while the other half measured the large eggs. After we had found the masses of both medium and large eggs we compiled our data. The mean of both types of eggs were found leading toward a comparison using the t test. Based on the evidence, the null hypothesis was rejected. It was reasonable to conclude that there was a difference between both medium and large eggs. The results did not support our hypothesis which is: there is not a difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The largest medium egg was about equal to the smallest large egg. The mean of the medium eggs was 48.84 grams (s.d. +/ 1.86114). The large eggs ranged from 53.34g to 65.98. The mean of these numbers is 59.76 (s.d. +/ 3.84559). The t test was calculated to be 0.702 proving the null hypothesis wrong. DISCUSSION The findings show that there is a difference in the medium and large eggs. Large eggs were found to weigh more than the medium eggs. If medium eggs would have had similar mean weights we could have concluded that both sets of eggs are the same. The t test showed us that the null hypothesis was not present between both sets of eggs; also, voiding our original hypothesis stating that there was not a difference between between medium and large eggs. Although this experiment was completed with precise care, there may be some inaccuracies present such as the cracking of an egg. Although this may be an inaccuracy, it is highly unlikely that this had any significant impact on the data. The evidence shown leads the conclusion that medium eggs and large eggs are different. • 4. Self-Destruction In Stephen Crane s Untitled There is a strain between what is good for the body and the reality of human nature. Individuals know mistakes will occur, but they do not understand how to nurture themselves. Because of this reality, people tear themselves apart, thinking it is the reasonable reaction. In Stephen Crane s poem, Untitled, symbolism and religious indicators illustrate the theme of self betrayal. Firstly, nature is typically fruitful; however, a desert is the antipode of this definition. Most plants cannot grow in the desert climate, creating a barren, unwelcoming environment; this is where Stephen Crane places his poem. The naked, bestial (2) creature the narrator sees is the only other living object in this desert, representing self destruction. Innate in one s being, self destruction sucks dry a once blossoming environment, turning oneself into a hell or purgatory like habitat. Life is difficult, yet self destruction makes one bitter. The narrator tries to appeal to the creature by calling it friend, (6) but this is not enough for it to stop eating the heart. Instead, the individual makes small talk. Well, to understand my position entirely, we need to go back to the beginning. In 1939, the U.S. declared itself a neutral country in the European conflict that would come to be known as World War II. In 1941, Franklin Roosevelt became the first and only president elected for three terms. Later that year, Japan attacked the U.S. at Pearl Harbor. These events spiraled into the earth changing event that was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Many scientists believe this to be the event that caused the Invasion, as it sent some sort of radioactive wave throughout the galaxy. Although people tend to may disagree with each other, there was no doubt that it was a devastating blow to the entire world. Go back through the case; make a list of each action/ practice that could be called a gray area. The problems to be investigated are the business ethics and practices of Goldman Sachs. There were several grey areas in which Goldman Sachs operated their business. Ethical Grey areas are situations and problems that don t fit neatly into any existing mode of ethical analysis within the business (Marshall, 2007). Peter Drucker s interpretation of business ethics is that personal ethics and business ethics cannot be separated. He uses the example of businessmen should not cheat, steal, lie, bribe, or take bribes. But nor should anyone else. He also mentioned that men and women don t acquire exemption from ordinary rules of personal behavior because of their work or job (Drucker, 1986). The first grey area was Goldman Sachs using a technique called layering . Goldman would start a company and used their own money to buy 90% of the shares. The public would see how the stocks were selling so quickly and wanted a piece of the pie. The public were unaware that Goldman was buying their own stocks and then continuously increasing the price of the stock and selling it back at the higher price. • 13. The Arab Spring During The Middle East And North African... The Arab Spring brought revolutionary changes to the Middle East and North African region s authoritarian republics while bypassing its autocratic monarchies. The monarchical exceptionalism that has allowed these states to remain intact is due to a set of three overlapping factors crosscutting coalitions, hydrocarbon rents, and foreign patronage. Collectively, these factors explain why most of the royal autocracies never experienced widespread protest. The eight Arab monarchies Jordan, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and the Persian Gulf states of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE hold near absolute power. According to the Gause article, none of the states qualify as constitutional kingships in which the enthroned incumbent exercises only ceremonial influence while an elected parliamentary government makes policy. The region s kings and emirs not only reign but they also rule. They are the lead decision makers in naming cabinets, determining major domestic and foreign policies, controlling the state s coercive apparatus, and allowing parliaments and judiciaries limited authority (Gause). According to Gause, the first element of the strategic explanation for monarchical exceptionalism is one that links the historical legacy of domestic choices with a permissive international environment. The majority of the monarchies have used the tool of crosscutting coalitions thereby linking alliances of different social constituencies to the ruling family. In general, dictators cannot ... • 14. The Freedom Of Rights In The First Amendment The rights protected in the First Amendment are essential to the functioning of a free society in that they provide the means through which the ideas outlined in the Declaration of Independence are fulfilled. In the First Amendment, the power of Congress is limited by prohibiting the creation of laws regarding the establishment or restriction of religion, and the abridgement of the freedom of speech, of press, to peaceably assemble, or to petition the government. Without these fundamental rights, the voice of minorities would be silenced and societal development would not occur. Eighteenth century Americans considered freedom of religion to be an essential right that protected both church and state. Many colonists came to America to escape religious persecution, and believed religion helped to develop individual character. The establishment and free exercise clauses help develop the character of individuals needed to maintain a free society. Moreover, freedom of speech allows people to compare and discuss their ideas regarding ethics, politics, morals, and public issues; as English philosopher and political economist John Stuart Mill stated, progress can occur only when all points of view can be expressed and considered. In a free society, the policies of government are determined by the will of the people, so the people must be well informed. Teachers should also designed lesson plans that are rigorous but can be adaptable to each student (whether students are general or special education) in the class. Educators should have activities that will nurture social development and student responsibilities, as this will give them the opportunity to exercise responsibility and practice interacting with others. Due to the fact students are in high school, there are no rewards for good behavior being practice. However, punishment in the class will be dealt with immediately in order to provide a stable environment of teaching and learning; as policy and procedure is addressed for misconduct at the beginning of the year Teachers must encourage students to use higher order thinking skills in order to involve them in the learning process, (Bonwell Eison, n.d.). There re many different types of stereotypes but they all impact us negatively. Stereotypes can be defined as judgments that people make about others without knowing them personally, and stereotypes impact our society in many ways. For example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says that You have this lens where you re looking at yourself through the lens of other people the way that they re looking at you (Raz, Guy, and Jamila Lyiscott). Overall, the information given from the poem and story show s that stereotypes affect the person you re making the assumption about more than the person judging that person. Although typically overlooked by the inattentive reader, the minor character can serve a myriad of literary roles from adding to the overall story elements to distinguishing the character s impact on the plot. In Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, minor characters play a paramount role in advancing the plot, reinforcing Austen s tone, and uniquely contributing to the work as a whole. Similar to the way Austen defied social standards by writing in a time of prejudice against female authors, Elizabeth defies the traditional social conventions of marriage by refusing Mr. Collins s proposal, as well as by ignoring Lady Catherine s demands. Elizabeth sarcastically brushes off Lady Catherine s threats to ruin her if she accepts Darcy s proposal as heavy misfortunes (305) and distances herself from the situation by declaring that it will have no affect on [her] (305). In addition to advancing the plot and contributing to the theme, Lady Catherine de Bourgh provides a satirical image of the aristocracy, as well a foil to Mrs. Bennett through her immoderate pride and arrogance. Lady Catherine s actions and beliefs as an aristocrat extend far past acceptable decorum to the point that her immodesty satirizes her as an archaic relic spewing only hot air. Upon her arrival at the Bennett household, she rudely scorns the Longbourn estate by referring to it as a very small park (302). Lady Catherine also dispraises Elizabeth s upbringing by obnoxiously asserting that without a governess [she] must have been neglected (142). Elizabeth underscores the hilarity of her ladyship s assumptions by assuring her that had not been the case (143). The Annals of Tacitus Essay Tacitus tells us in the introduction to his Annales that his intent is to relate a little about Augustus, Tiberius, et cetera and to in fact do so sine ira et studio without bitterness or bias.1 Experience, however, tells us that this aim is rarely executed, and that we must be all the more suspicious when it is stated outright. Throughout the Annales, Tacitus rather gives the impression that his lack of bias is evidenced by his evenhanded application of bitterness to all his subjects. But is this really the case? While Tacitus tends to apply his sarcastic wit universally to barbarian and Roman alike this is not necessarily evidence of lack of bias. Chapter 14.31 features an unusual use of rebellio ( rebellationem ), used to describe rebelling tribes, only seen elsewhere in the Aeneid (12.186), again in relation to the Trojans.5 Skipping ahead to the end 14.33, Tacitus describes the rebellious Britons as being uninterested in belli commercium, or the commerce of war, i.e., the trading and selling of hostages. This is another phrase borrowed from Vergil (Aeneid 10.532), used in fact by Aeneas in denouncing the practice. The last Aeneid reference occurs in 14.34, immediately preceding Boudicca s rallying speech which begins in 14.35: the use of exultabant to describe the Celtic armies battle strategy.6 This is a usage derived from 11.663 of the Aeneid, which describes the warrior Camilla, enemy of Aeneas, in a passage comparing her to Penthesilea and the Amazons, who actually defended Troy during the war. Tacitus reminds his reader that there is a long tradition of comparing enemies of Rome to noble allies of the past, and prepares us to see Boudicca as the heir of female warriors like Camilla and Penthesilea. The discovery was considered to be revolutionary at the time. She continued to test all elements on the Periodic Table of Elements. Only uranium and thorium gave off any sort of radiation.
