Symbols and Symbolism in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The...
Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne isn t noted for perfecting any famous literary style, for writing multiple best
sellers, or even for contributing largely to classic American literature. His only real claim to fame is
The Scarlet Letter: a novel that was originally only meant to be yet another Hawthorne short story.
Because of this, it actually possesses many short story characteristics. It is simpler and more complete
than his other novels. (James 285) It also has an excellent plot backed by an expert use of literary
techniques. One technique Hawthorne used was borrowed solely from drama: the use of the aside.
Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale delivers an aside in the midst of the action in chapter three, ... Show

At first, the scarlet letter meant Adulteress and was a sign of scorn. It was a brand used for easy
identification of an untrustworthy criminal. But as time progressed, and the initial shock of such
actions as adultery subsided, the townspeople, especially the women, took note of the fact that Hester
had accepted the responsibility of her actions by sewing the scarlet letter herself. They also observed
that she did so with unmatched precision. Eventually this made them yearn for needlepoint talent like
she possessed. They began relying on her to sew exquisite patterns for them, gradually inviting her
back in their society. By wearing the scarlet letter proudly, Hester had eventually changed the meaning
of the A from Adulteress to Able. The townspeople saw Hester for her inner beauty, not for the scarlet
letter forever branded onto her bosom. They realized the sacrifice and pain that she went through to
regain their trust and respect. Gradually, throughout the novel the scarlet letter becomes an article of
pride, and Hester a woman deserving respect.
One object that holds great symbolic value is often over looked and discarded as an unimportant
detail. It is the black glove that Dimmesdale left on the scaffold after his night vigil of regret and guilt.
What, on the surface, may seem as a minute, petty detail becomes rather powerful when the reader
realizes that the

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Scenario...
With the global economy developed, organizations have to live in a more complex and changeable
environment, making decision according to various factors that could make a difference, such as
technology, environment, regulation and policy etc. The ability to adapt changes and deal with future
possibility is vital for organizations to survive in a world changes rapidly. However, it seems to be not
sufficient to use traditional approaches of strategy in such highly uncertain, intensive and complex
competitive environment (Celeste Amorim Varum, 2010). Scenario planning is another tool that has
gained much attention during the last decades as an effective tool for sorting future uncertainties and
investigating assumptions in organizations (P. Schwartz, 1991).
Nowadays, future changes too rapidly to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We all know that future cannot be predicted even the weather forecast, which based on accurate data,
is not that precise sometimes. Scenario planning provides a solution for organizations to develop in
uncertainty by assuming various possibilities about future and help people to make a better decision or
plan accordingly.
In my opinion, there are three advantages of scenario planning which made it become widely used by
organizations in the process of decision making. Firstly, scenario planning can improve the decision
making mechanism and activate the managing system, improving the decision making with a more
scientific and interactive process. TAIDA™ is a primary model for scenario planning. Hundreds of
scenario projects have been carried out on the basis of the model in the past decade (Mats Lindgren,
2003). TAIDA is short for five steps below: Tracking: trace changes and signs of threats and
opportunities by clarifying future trend; Analyzing: analyze consequences of the changes and

Book review of The Original Argument
Bibliography
Beck, Glenn, and Joshua Charles. The Original Argument: The Federalists Case for the Constitution,
Adapted for the 21st Century. New York: Threshold Editions, 2011. Print.
398 pages Summary
Instead of the Beck and Charles telling a story of a significant person to make a point the Authors
discussed the original argument for the United States Constitution. The argument was originally
written by the federalists in the late 18th century. These historical documents are commonly referred
to as the federalist papers. Beck and Charles go over seven different topics and arguments discussed in
the federalist papers.
Part One: Novus ordo seclorum: A New Order For the Ages is all about the new way of thinking once
the colonies declared independence from England. It discussed how new concepts were being
introduced and why a new order was needed for that particular time. In fact Alexander Hamilton
sounded a lot like Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln s main objective as president was also to
preserve the Union. Hamilton wrote, Nothing remains as obvious as the fact that either the new
Constitution will be adopted or the Union will be torn apart. It is therefore necessary to examine the
advantages of the Union, as well as the evils and dangers that would result from its disbanding. (Beck
and Charles 4) Alexander Hamilton (who wrote many of the federalist

Comparison Of Ellis Joseph s Character And Political Views
The history presented by Ellis Joseph in American Sphinx: The Character of Thomas Jefferson
concerning Jefferson s life, including his drafting of the Declaration of Independence, diplomatic
experiences in Paris, domestic time spent at Monticello, terms of presidency, and final years, clarify
the development of his character and political views. Reoccurring themes of Jefferson s character
include his timid and conflicting demeanor, shown from his fright of public speaking and attention, his
use of paradoxes, shown by his opinions on slaves and Native Americans, and internal conflicts
regarding his large sums of debt, an alleged scandal with a his slave, and his constant desire for a
personal utopia. Yet despite Jefferson s contradictory character, ... Show more content on

Through glances of five periods during Thomas Jefferson s life, Joseph highlights Jefferson s
paradoxes, inconsistencies, and basic ideologies and theories that pressed his main decisions and
governance style throughout his lifetime. These clarify the development of his character and political
views and create a fascinating biography on this captivating president.
Joseph Ellis studied at the College of William and Mary and Yale University and has focused his
writing on early president biographies. His interests on this subject include how these men impacted
their times and how they were affected by them. He emphasizes character in these profiles, especially
in his most acknowledged works, Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation and American
Sphinx: The Character of Thomas Jefferson. Joseph writes of Jefferson s life chronologically,
beginning with his work as Virginia s delegate to the Continental Congress, drafting the Declaration of
Independence, and his final years in retirement at Monticello. He also describes his occupations as
Secretary of State, diplomatic works in France, as president, and as a

Haitian Family Values
Family values are ideals that are learned traditionally in a family and are reinforced within the familial
unit. Family values can be very diverse between different cultures. Some of these family values are the
way children are raised, discipline, gender roles in the family, and the way families choose to live.
Family values are a major part of Haitian culture and they are very important to Haitians. This is my
favorite aspect of all of Haitian Culture. For all Haitian families, no matter what class they are a part
of, family life is the most important thing. Middle and upper class Haitian families usually live in
urban environments and they practice formal marriages and their family values are more similar to
modern American family values. Lower class families have a more informal way of living. Their
family environments are more extended family. In all classes, though, family always comes before
work or anything else. (Haitian Family)
From the very beginning of life, children are thought of as gifts from God. Families will do anything
and everything to make sure the children are taken care of and that their needs are met. Parents will
even sacrifice their own necessities to be sure that the children get what they need. Mothers will feed
their children and make sure they can go to school before they will eat. In Haiti, children are raised by
the whole family, which includes older siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and even
members of the community that are not

Religious Beliefs And The Role Of Dress In The Religious...
Religious ideologies regarding dress are based on religious organizations individual dogmas, who
believe that your outwardly appearance should reflect your inner beliefs. Similarly, adhering to a strict
code of dress, that symbolizes its group s traditions and customs, also helps in controlling the body s
sexuality. Hunt Hurst and Miller Spillman (2012) stated that being well dressed (modestly) is a
religious duty and not a personal preference (p. 266). Dress in a matter of speaking is an outwardly
symbol of religious identification and showing ones connectedness to their religious organization.
Arthur (n.d.) believes a group identity is projected through dress because people use self presentation
and self promotion to visually present identity that is congruent with their belief systems (Religion and
Dress, para. 1). Since each religious organization perceives the role of dress, as it pertains to the
expression of identity, differently one must also understand the basis of said religious organizations
beliefs in order to comprehend how their beliefs mirror the role of dress. Islam is a monotheistic faith,
one that believes in a single God, emphasizes submission to God or Allah, as well as the group over
the individual. The Qur an, the literal word of God, lays out the role of dress and its meaning for both
men and women (Hunt Hurst Miller Spillman, 2012; Islam, 2017). According to the Qur an men are to
lower their gaze and be modest, which is purer for them,

How War Has Changed Society
War has been around for as long as mankind has existed. War has been around since the beginning for
two reasons; because people either wanted to have a better life or to protect their way of life. People
go to war to gain land, economic gain, government affiliations, and religion. Over the time that
mankind has been around, warfare has changed significantly.
There is not much known about prehistoric and warfare. What is known is that war did not happen
very often. Small hunting and gathering groups that weathered the last ice age had cause on occasion
to attack each other. Such attacks were probably for control of food sources, important raw materials
water, trade routes, or perhaps locations of presumed religious significance. Prehistoric hunters
equipped themselves with weapons to make their living. It was an easy step to turn those weapons on
neighbors. The earliest known burial site that was related to warfare was along the Nile in Nubia. The
skeletons have wounds on their bones that are consistent with warding off blows. There were also
pieces of what is thought to be small flakes of arrowheads buried along with the bodies. This is
significant because war is not a modern thing, it has been around since the beginning of our species.
There is a little bit more known about neolithic warfare. During this time there was increased
economic incentives for war. Competition and incentive for armed conflict between groups grew once
the agricultural revolution began. The food

American Environmental Movement
Have you ever caught yourself criticizing a littered area of your favorite park? Or cringed at the bitter
taste of an apple s skin, due to heavy pesticides? Like you, many Americans began to socially
denounce the mistreatment of their natural world, thus sweeping an environmental movement across
the United States. The modern environmentalist ideas that help safe guard the nature in our everyday
world have grown into a hugely adopted cultural movement through decades of research and
persuasion. Its influence on America and other parts of the world vastly differs from society to society,
however, the fundamental ideas seem to remain concrete through time.
The American environmental movement holds itself in high esteem both in the common individual
opinion, and its literal definition. The environmental movement describes the attempt to purify and
conserve natural resources. This fundamental movement bore its beginnings in rough times for the
U.S., as certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many counterclaims enter human thought, including, exaggeration of facts, content, the idea of hidden
truths about our environment, and laziness. For example, in 1983, researches released their fears of
ozone degeneration and looked into both the reality and causes. Because of some faulty information
and controversial data, many citizens disregarded the warning and made no efforts to increase fuel
friendliness. Ignoring the threat also allowed every day people the ease and capital provision of using
more harmful gases in their machines and vehicles. However, in May of 1985, an article was released,
confirming the ozone hole over the Antarctic. People throughout America began to drastically increase
the concept Going Green . The effects of concern, followed by research, followed by a call to action,
have created a much more conservative culture in America. However, we are not a perfect people and
both doubt and laziness in association with environment purification will continue to

Wind Chill
Wind chill is the perceived decrease in air temperature felt by the body on exposed sin due to the flow
of cold air. Wind chill temperatures are always lower than air temperature. The human body loses heat
through convection, evaporation, conduction and radiation. The rate of heat loss by a surface through
convection depends on the wind speed above that surface. As a surface heats the air around it, an
insulating boundary layer of warm air forms agains the surface. Moving air disrupts the boundary
layer, allowing for new, cooler air to replace the warm air against the surface. The faster the wind
speed, the more readily the surface cools. The speed of cooling has different effect on inanimate
objects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although high winds can make those of us with a pulse feel more miserable than normal, they don t
have the same effect on inanimate objects. Lower wind chills mean that inanimate object to the
temperature more quickly, but even high winds can t force the object s temperature below the air
temperture. That means that even though your skin might think it s 28 degrees, your water pipes will
still be balmy 40 degress. Wind Chill = 35.74 + 0.6215T 35.75(V^0.16) + 0.4275T(V^0.16) T is the
air temperature in degrees Fahrenheit, and V is the wind speed in miles per hour. Basically the wind
chil factor you hear reported assumes that your exposed face is roughly five feet off th eground, it s
night, and you re walking directly into the wind in an open field at a clip of about 3 mph. Remember,
the basic concept behind wind chill is that stronger winds will cause exposed skin to cool more
quickly. The faster skin cools, the faster frostbite can set it. As wind chills drop south of 50 or so, the
onset of frostbite can take as little as five minutes, so it s worth keeping an eye on the wind chill even
if the notion of your skin feeling like a certain temperature may be a bit misleading. Space blankets
help the athletes regulate their body temperatures which tend to drop drastically once they stop
running. These sheets aren t made of the typical

Cinder Book Report
This book report is about a book that I ve read called Cinder by Marissa Meyer. It is the first book of a
four book series known as the Lunar Chronicles. MacMillan Publishing published this book on
January 3 2012. The book s genres are science fiction and romance. There are 400 pages in Cinder. It
is about a cyborg named Lihn Cinder who is struggling with an unwelcoming family and accepting the
prince s love. The classic fairytale slightly influence this book. I enjoyed the unexpected plot and
backstory of the protagonist.
A cyborg named Lihn Cinder, lives in New Beijing with an unwelcoming family consists of her step
mother, Adri and her two step sisters, Peony and Pearl. Cinder is a talented mechanic who owns a
booth so the prince of New Beijing, Prince Kai, asks Cinder to fix his android. On the very same day
at night, Peony gets infected by Letumosis, a plague that has no survivors. In grief, Adri expressed her
anger at Cinder by sending her away to volunteer for the research of a cure. At the lab, Cinder meets
Dr. Erland who performed test on Cinder. He found out that Cinder is immune to Letumosis because
she is a Lunar shell. Lunars are people who lives on Earth and have the ability brainwash anybody
except shells. In the meantime, Prince Kai had to settle the peace treaty between Lunars and humans.
The only way to fix it is by marrying Queen Levana, the queen of the Lunars. When Cinder exits the
lab, she encounters Prince Kai again, and Prince Kai asks if Cinder

Of Civil Disobedience In SophoclesAntigone And Martin...
While Antigone and Martin Luther King Jr. both believe a higher good requires them to disobey
specific laws, they carry out civil disobedience in different ways. Dr. King publicly fought for Civil
Rights through nonviolent protests, marches, and speeches, while Antigone opposed the law of her
uncle Kreon and buried her brother, knowing she would be killed. King s Letter from a Birmingham
Jail shows the difference between unjust and just laws and his public administration led to a change in
racial injustice still clear today, while Antigone attempts to show Kreon his unjust ways instead of
saving herself. Although Antigone died for her dedication to family, I sympathize more with Martin
Luther King Jr. because his letter and continuous engagement in civil disobedience led to a change for
the higher good still present in America today.
In Sophocles Antigone, the character Antigone engages in civil disobedience by burying her brother
Polyneices and opposing the law of her uncle Kreon. She openly decides to obey the gods and show
dedication to her family, even if it meant leading to her death (Blondell). Instead of fighting for her
life, Antigone attempts to show Kreon that his law is against the gods and unjust. Throughout the play,
Antigone justifies her decision to bury her brother, despite other s opinions. For example, when
Antigone first decides to defy Kreon s law she states, what I shall suffer will be far less dire than
dying an ignoble death (Blondell 96 97).

My Passion For Architectural Design
I have always had a passion for being practical for as long as I can remember, I often sought pleasure
from helping my parents build dreaded flat pack furniture. Over the years this passion for being
practical and building things has just developed into a love for structures and especially in the last few
I have been able to hone my passion down to architecture. What could be greater than wanting to
design these great edifices and seeing your design built for people to integrate into part of the lives.
My application to your university derives from my eagerness to study at one of the best universities in
the UK and from my desire to create well designed spaces that are both practical and gratifying to the
eye. It also hopes to ensure a satisfaction for my passion for practicality, my appreciation of
architecture and hopefully in the future it should secure me a place among some of the architectural
greats.
As a designer, I am constantly studying the world around me and looking at ways in which I can
change and mould it to make it more appealing and suitable for the tasks we undertake in our
everyday lives. This is reflected in my Extended Project Qualification that I completed earlier this year
which looks into the influence of architecture on human behaviour and how this compelling link
between the health and satisfaction of the human body that is largely determined by the fundamental
design of buildings can often be ignored by many of the architectural designers today.

Amory Blaine s Mirrors in Fitzgerald s This Side of Paradise
In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel This Side of Paradise, Amory Blaine searches for his identity by
mirroring people he admires. However, these
mirrors actually block him from finding his true self. He falls in love with women whose personalities
intrigue him; he mimics the actions of men he looks up to. Eleanor Savage and Burne Holiday serve as
prime examples of this. Until
Amory loses his pivotal mirror, Monsignor Darcy, he searches for his soul in all the wrong places.
When Monsignor Darcy dies, Amory has the spiritual epiphany he needs to reach his paradise the

Eleanor and Amory hate each other after this realization, but the hatred has a good quality in that
Amory understands that he had loved himself in Eleanor, so now what he hated was only a mirror
(218). Choosing to emulate Eleanor s dementia proved to be a bad decision along the course of Amory
s search for himself. He sees his own defunct image in this mirror, and it frightens him.
It causes him to temporarily loathe himself as well as Eleanor, but it also teaches him that he needs to
become an individual. While this idea exists in
Amory s mind, it does not strike him full force until the death of Monsignor
Darcy.
Monsignor Darcy seems to be an odd choice for a role model for Amory since Amory continually
refers to himself as a paganist (209). However, it is not surprising that Amory idolizes the Monsignor
not only because his pagan talk is superficial, but also because Beatrice held the Monsignor in the
highest regard. Amory does not mean he believes in paganism when he refers to himself as paganist;
he does not know himself well enough to know whether or not he believes in God. Rather he means he
experiences what could be called a paganism of the soul: he has no soul, therefore nothing exists for
him to, figuratively, worship, or technically, with which to worship. Amory looks up to Monsignor
Darcy because he epitomizes what Amory wishes he could be; passively he

John Wycliffe And The Lollards Function
The writings of John Wycliffe and the Lollards function as sort of a prequel to the protestant
reformation that would sweep through England and Europe in the sixteenth century. It is clear that the
Lollards were not all perfect representations of Wycliffe s beliefs. Furthermore, just like the many
divisions of Protestantism, Lollardism was made up of many groups of differing opinion. It was not a
monolith. However, there are numerous discernible similarities in belief between Wycliffe, and his
varied followers, and the eventual English Reformation. The writings of John Wycliffe were a
significant precursor in the political and religious developments of the English Reformation. One of
the primary concerns of Wycliffe was the temporal power of the clergy. His first works, including the
De Civili Dominio, focused on the unwelcomed intrusion of the pope and his clergy into secular
affairs. This was not a view unique to the fourteenth century. Kings had often vied against the Pope for
power throughout the Middle Ages. The extent of the Pope s influence and power in foreign realms
was certainly not a settled issue in England or the rest of Catholic Europe. The De civili dominio
suggests that it is the responsibility of the state, and its secular rulers, to judge the morality of the
church. Wycliffe begins the De civili dominio by establishing precedent for his ideas by referring to
the ancient magi, or three wise men that visited Jesus upon his birth. Wycliffe states a long held

From the 1920 s up until his death Joseph Stalin was the leader of Russia. What ensued under Stalin s
reign didn t evoke emotions of love for country within the Russian people. Under Stalin the people
lived in constant fear because of an epidemic within their own country, genocide of Stalin s own
people by Stalin himself. From 1934 up until 1939 a period of mass fear swept over Russia and at the
helm Stalin with his (helpers?) of mass killings, the NKVD which are the internal police. Russia has
always had a form state security service commonly thought of now as the secret police , but in 1929

Along with that man the founding fathers (PBS), of the Soviet Union were publically executed for
crimes against the country (PBS). During Stalin s reign fear was a motivator anyone who spoke out
was executed or sent to the Gulag s, but that wasn t enough for Stalin. The people who were terrified
of him also had to praise him; Stalin s grasp over Russia was so strong that wherever you were his
photo was near you (BBC). Children were taught to love Stalin even though they were scared out of
their minds. Stalin was given credit whenever anything good happened like there was a good growing
season for farmers, just like a god and they dare not do anything else (BBC). The reason Stalin
instilled so much fear into his fellow countrymen was what he felt would create unity (BBC). The
Soviet Union has always had a form of inner security somewhat like a combination of the FBI and
CIA in America, but much more corrupt and ruthless. The NKVD was in control of certain
departments they include troops stationed inside of the Soviet Union, criminal departments such as the
police and other forms of investigation, prison guards these guards are also the Gulag guards as well,
The NKVD was also in charge of much more (NKVD.org). As part of Stalin s sense of unity came a

San Diego Scholarship Essay
My passion for sustainable development was influenced by father. As a garbage truck driver, he would
take me to the San Diego Waste landfill and show me the negative impact waste has on the
environment. Despite his broken English, third grade education and limited understanding on
sustainability, this experience motivated me to continue my education and become an advocate for
sustainable changes in my community.
As a Barrio Logan native I have seen the lack of affordable and environmentally friendly resources
due to language, education, and socioeconomic barriers. These obstacles restrict long term behavioral
changes and are often ignored in government policies. Therefore, my goal as a first generation college
student is to become a policymaker that will bring clean, green and sustainable resources to low
income communities in San Diego.
I am pursuing a Bachelors of Arts degree in International Security and Conflict Resolution with a
Specialization in Environment and Security because it will further assist me in understanding the
different cultural, economic and social dilemmas within global conflicts. After graduating from San

Analysis Of Le Chinois Galant
Le Chinois Galant
Le Chinois Galant, is a breathtaking oil painting that was created by a famous artist in the 18th century
of the name Francois Boucher. This stunning painting conveys the modern era that is of china. This
canvas of which this painting was painted on was fitted onto a Rococo frame as seen in The David
Collection located at Copenhagen, Denmark; that was photographed by Pernille Klemp. The
dimensions for the canvas are forty one inches by fifty seven inches. In this art piece oil paint was
used on linen canvas to help create different shades of blue color, adding not only more of a vibrant
effect but also portraying a mood to the painting. By applying the oil paint, it gave the benefit of
making the surface of the painting more smooth. The smoothness of the paint reflected gave more
contrast to the painting. The subject manifested within the painting is one in which a man is courting
the woman to ultimately making love to one another. It seems as though the man and woman are in a
garden that is quiet and contained within the garden is a statue of Buddha hinting at possibly the loss
of innocence. The main purpose of Francois Boucher s canvas, Le Chinois Galant, was to demonstrate
the cultural influence of the Chinese on the European after both cultures started trading goods in
beginning of the fifteenth century.

Analysis Of The Case Law Of Buckley Young Ltd V.
1. Four apportionment methods
In general, there are four apportionment methods has been identified by the case law of Buckley
Young Ltd v CIR (1978) 3 NZTC 61,271 (CA) (Buckley Young Ltd v CIR , 1978), and their name are
listed in below:
 Factual use or availability for use for business and private purposes method (Buckley Young Ltd v
CIR , 1978)
 A pro rata basis method (Buckley Young Ltd v CIR , 1978)
 Cash value equivalent method (Buckley Young Ltd v CIR , 1978)
 Non monetary factors method (Buckley Young Ltd v CIR , 1978)

4. The meaning of to the extent ITA 2007, section DA 1
In my opinion, the phrase of to the extent in ITA 2007, section DA 1 means an item of expenditure
may be apportioned between the amount that meets the general deductibility test or the amount which
does not satisfy the test (CIR v Banks, 1978).
5a. Deferred maintenance
In this case, the client is operating a bakery, and he anticipates he will incur $6.000 in maintain his
shop over the next 12 months. But according to the section DA 2 (1) ITA 2007, it states that deduction
for any expenditure or loss to the extent that it is of a capital nature (DA 2 General limitations, 2004).
Therefore, the maintenance expenditure is caught by section DA 2 (1), due to the maintenance
expenditure has a capital nature. For that reason, the deferred maintenance of $6,000 is not allowed to
deduct.
5b. Labour cost
In this scenario, the labor cost is to print his shop in order to save some costs, and it incurred by him in
the course of carrying on his business, which is consistent with the section DA 1(b) ITA 2007 (DA
1(b) General Permission, 2004). Therefore, the labor cost $1,000 is allowed to deduct.
5c. Childcare cost
In this situation, his wife is ill and is in hospital for a week. So, he has to pay his neighbor $100, to
look after their child. Put it simply, it is a childcare cost which has a private nature. According to the
section DA 2 (2), it sets out a deduction for any expenditure or loss to the extent that it is

Sanchez Essay
The short story quot;Sanchez, quot; written by Richard Dokey, is a story about
Juan Sanchez and his family. quot;Sanchez quot; is told in many different settings,
which are all unique and represent various feelings that Dokey portrays to
his readers. The settings are described realistically; they affect Juan and
Jesus in personal ways. The settings vary from a small village in Mexico to
the Sierra Nevada in California.
At first the story is set in Stockton in the San Joaquin Valley. Jesus,
Juan s son, got his first job in a cannery called Flotill. Stockton is shown

feeling tired from the events of the day. Juan got in his car and returned
home to Twin Pines to reflect on his past.
Twin Pines was where Juan and his wife had lived for about six years, but
the home wasn t the same now that La Belleza was dead. La Belleza had died
due to complications when Jesus was born. His wife s death completely
changed him. Twin Pines was where Juan and his wife had longed to live for
many years. The neighborhood and his new house had been well deserved. He
had to struggle for a long time in Mexico to save enough money to move to the
mountains. Juan had lived his whole life in Mexico before moving. Mexico,
to Juan was a quot;hard land. It took the life of his father and mother before
he was twelve and the life of his aunt, with whom he then lived, before he
was sixteen quot;(154). This inspired Juan to get away from the village and
eventually, he did. Mexico and its hardships were now in Juan s past
representing his struggle to have a better place for his wife. Juan had
saved enough money to leave the quot;death quot; of Mexico and head for his dreams of
the Mountains. Jackson, a town along the road to Twin Pines, was where quot;the
road turned and began an immediate, constant climb upward quot; (156). This, to
me, represents a major change in Juan s life. Juan s dream finally was

Coors Brewing Company Case Study
Background
The Coors Brewing Company was founded back in 1873 by two German immigrants Adolph Coors
and Jacob Schueler. The two combined invested $20,000, $18,000 of which came from Schueler and
the other $2,000 from Coors. The location of the brewery was in the mining town of Golden,
Colorado. This location was picked because Mr. Coors believed the key ingredient in beer was the
water source. The river that flowed through this mining town was perfect for his beer. The two
investors worked together for seven years until Coors bought out Schueler and became the sole owner
of the brewery in 1880. When prohibition finally hit Colorado in the year 1916, Mr. Coors was forced
to find other means of making money. The brewery was converted to produce malted milk which he
would then sell to candy companies. Four years after Adolph Coors passing, in 1929, prohibition is
ended and his son, Adolph Coors Jr., takes over the family business. The distribution range of the
company quickly expands and by 1948, it stretches across 11 states. It would remain this way for
almost 30 years before they start to expand to try and reach a nationwide audience. In 2005, now in its
fourth generation of Coors family management, the Coors Brewing Company votes to merge with
Molson Brewing Company in Canada to form the Molson Coors Brewing Company. Together they are
the world s seventh largest brewer. Two years later

Evolution By Natural Selection
Evolution is the change of traits of a species over several generations. A famous biologist named
Charles Darwin, theorized that evolution happens by natural selection. Many people believe that
evolution requires millions of years but scientists believe that evolution can occur rather quickly. In
Today s world, we have better health care, food, shelter and hygiene. Some might question if our
advanced medicine and technology can lead to a stop in evolution, but in fact we are still evolving
according to some scientists (Neild). There has been much debate and controversy over this statement
but there is no concrete proof to say that humans are not evolving. In fact, there is evidence that
evolution is happening at this very moment. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the past 30,000 years, human brains have decreased about ten percent which is said to be
equivalent to a tennis ball. Wilkens states, Based on skulls found in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East,
the human brain was about 1,500 cubic centimeters 30,000 years ago, and now it s down to about
1,359 cubic centimeters. It might seem like a slow process but losing that much brain mass can surely
affect humans one way or another. Although some people might think that humans are getting dumber
because of the shrinking of the brain, some scientists strongly believe that is not the case. There are
several theories that explain why this phenomenon is happening. One theory states that humans now
tend to rely more on society and smaller brains help us work together. It also states that smaller brains
cause humans to be less aggressive, giving us many social advantages (Hullinger). Another and more
interesting theory states that the reason behind the loss of the human brain mass is because,
Domestication leads to smaller brains. (Alban) Humans learned how to cultivate, find food and shelter.
People no longer need to learn survival skills like our ancient ancestors once did which means that that
location in our brain in no longer being used. A good example of this are domestic animals. Pet
owners provide their animals with food, shelter and love. They are no longer out in the wilderness

When exploring the question of how has war changed and how has it remained the same, it makes
sense to know what governs the definition of war. Policymaker characterized it as the organized,
deliberate political action that hungers for thousands of deaths and eats for twelve months in a table
where two, capable of harming each other, sit. This offers a certain type of criteria to meet the
requirements and therefore takes genocides, protests, and even riots out of the picture. Genocides have
the capabilities to cause an inflated mass murder of a thousand or more people in a time period of
twelve months. It can be organized and deliberate, but they do not hold two actors capable of harming
each other. In some instances organized riots have gained the trait to claim a thousand or more life s in
a short period, but neither do riots hold the actors capable of harming each other. We can take a look at
today s international conflicts and what may escalate from them to acquire a deeper understanding of
war. Today we face an entity labeled Isis in the middle east. This conflict rose from many variables.
The book Essentials for international relations give us some explanations to as why some state may go

dilemma claims that in a states own efforts to protect

How Is Music Used In The Joker
Music plays an important role in a films experience. It is significant in films because it sets the tone as
well as enhances the film in many different aspects. It is meant to engage the audience and evoke
emotion from them. The Dark Knight is arguably the best movie within the Batman Trilogy by
Christopher Nolan. Simply put the film is just epic. Yes the action is great and the late Heath Ledger s
portrayal of The Joker is superb, but it s the film s original score from Hans Zimmer and James
Newton Howard that gives The Dark Knight it s grand feeling. The movies opening scene starts off
with the track Why So Serious . This track is used for almost every scene The Joker is present in The

Imperfection In Gloria Naylor s Good Country People
All of the stories in this volume are great examples of southern writing. They are all thematically
linked by either community, flaws, or loss, which are all common themes in the deep south, especially
in the 1900 s. Those were times when woman we considered inferior to men, when loss was a huge
part of everyone s life because of the World Wars, but somehow community was the strongest bond
that everyone shared and it is what keeps the southern culture alive to this day. Community is a sense
of companionship with others bound together by common interests and goals. This idea is quite
important in the south because to them, their community was their family. In Gloria Naylor s Mama

Essay on Sophocles
The Power of Choice
Choices affect all of our lives. We are always faced with choices. What we do with those choices will
determine how are lives will turn out, what destiny lies before us and even what will become of us.
The choices we make are in our complete control. Whether we make choices during the heat of the
moment or with an open mind there are going to be consequences that follow whether good or bad are
can only be blamed on us. Sophocles s Antigone portrays human emotions and consequences that
follow two distinct choices. We can broaden the spectrum by saying that Creon represents public
policy and Antigone represents individual conscience. According to E.S. Shuckburgh we must

This is the moment when Antigone chooses her personal conscience over state law.
That goes true for our society today isn t there a little part of everyone that would like to be known for
something they accomplished or something that they did? We can look at Antigone s role in a broader
perspective and say that she stands for our individual conscience. Aren t we taught to stand up for

The Pros And Cons Of Unemployment
Unemployment is something that has negatively impacted homelessness. According to a 2002 study
by the Urban Institute, about 55% of homeless people were not employed. Many homeless people do
happen to be employed, however, there are some associated excuses as to why the other 55% of
homeless people couldn t get a job. No cell phone, no physical address, and bad hygiene are all
reasons why the homeless couldn t possibly work. If 38% of homeless people were using their money
wisely, they should buy a gym membership in placement of alcohol, they would be able to take a
shower every day and start on the road to a healthier lifestyle. They would also be one step closer to
being employed. Homeless people have a work ethic? Let s muster the 64% of homeless that are
addicted to drugs and divide that percentage in half, leaving 32%. Those 32% are effected by their
addiction, which in logic, makes their drugs priority over any personal or professional responsibility.
Do you think that those 32% have the work ethic to hold down a job, let alone research the resources
to find a job? In the real world, majority says no. That s only half of the 64%, imagine if more than
half of that 64% had the same feeling of unworthiness, due to drugs. The choice to continue misuse of
drugs, will end with lack of responsibility prioritization. Subsidized housing is available for those who

Different Theories For Storm Electrification Essay
In order to produce lightning, a cloud must first become electrified. Cloud electrification must occur
on two spatial scales. First, a small scale process that charges individual hydrometeors must occur.
Second, a large (~5 km) scale process that effectively separates the charges by polarity. There are
several primary theories of how storms become electrified. These include a convective mechanism,
and inductive mechanism, and lastly a precipitation or non inductive mechanism. These three theories
for storm electrification, including their strengths and shortcomings, will be discussed below.
2.4.1 Convective Mechanism
In the convective mechanism, charge comes from fair weather space charge and corona near the
ground and cosmic rays near the upper atmosphere. Updrafts carry positive space charge to the top of
the cloud. Negative charge near the top is attracted to the positive charge and is carried down by
downdrafts. The negative charge then produces corona at the ground, yielding positive charge that can
be carried by updrafts. However, models show that not nearly enough charge is produced for a typical
thunderstorm from this mechanism. Further, it is unclear how this accounts for the temperature
dependence of the charge structure (MacGorman and Rust 1998). Thus, the convective mechanism
does not explain the primary charging mechanism.
2.4.2 Induction Mechanism
Historically, one of the earliest theories for cloud electrification was an inductive mechanism.

Questions On Capture Intangible Costs
Chapter Five: Proposed questions to capture intangible costs 5.1 Introduction The objective of this
chapter is to generate relevant questions that can be used in the development of a questionnaire that
can capture the intangible costs of stillbirth. To achieve these objectives, the themes from the
qualitative synthesis, as reported in chapter four will be prioritised in terms of the frequency of their
occurrence in the identified studies. Among the eight themes that were identified in the previous
chapter, the outstanding theme that emerged across nearly all the studies was depression . This was
followed closely by need for support . The next two most common themes were profound grief and
social isolation . Within the qualitative synthesis, three themes: couples relationship , siblings issues
and return to normality seemed to be of relatively equal importance. However, two of these themes
(couples relationship and siblings issues) have the same connotation and seemed to point at similar
issues relating to impacts on the family. Of least importance was the theme of recovery which is
arguably an intangible benefit and is therefore irrelevant to the aim of the dissertation. Themes with
similar ideas were merged and this resulted in a total of four sections (A, B, C and D). In order to
explicitly capture the intangible costs of stillbirth, the proposed questions that emerge from each
section are included below. 5.2 Sections A: Depression/Profound grief The

Myths And Fairy Tales Essay
Myths and fairy tales are universal stories that help connect people from different backgrounds to their
own history and culture. Fairy tales give the reader with adventures, and how good always defeats
evil, while myths present us with heroes going through incredible hardship and at the same time, they
represent the fundamental values of our society. These stories help us develop an understanding of the
cultural values and how the human mind works. Myths and fairy tales continue to change through time
to adapt according to the values and reflections of the current cultural norms we are currently living.
Movies have become a platform to tell myths and fairy tales in a visual way to different age groups
and different cultures. A movie that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Animals have been associated with magic for a long time. These enchanted pets were commonly used
to diagnose illnesses, to find sources of magic and to find treasures. It was not until the Middle Ages
and the rise of Christianity that these pets were considered evil. They started to be considered as
demons or evil spirits in animal form, sent out by a witch to do their evil bidding. In Harry Potter,
each of the before mentioned pets is associated in mythology in different ways: The Owl has always
been associated with death, sorcery and the dark side of life. The owls would go with witches on their
broomsticks and carry out their evil commands. Cats have always been associated with witches. A
witch was reputed to own a cat as a familiar pet and they were believed to embody demons and used
for spells.
In the wizardry world of Harry Potter, a magic wand had to be obtained to attend Hogwarts School of
Magic. A wand was a thin, handheld stick made of wood, stone or metals. It was a tool used to channel
the energy and magic of the witch. In Egyptian mythology, the magic wand is mentioned and in Greco
Roman mythology, the god Hermes had a special wand called a caduceus. In almost every childhood
story and fairy tale we have read, all the magical beings like the fairy godmother in Cinderella and
Sleeping Beauty, they all use a magic wand

Benefits Of A New School Year
Starting a new school year is a joy for most students, as they take pleasure in moving up to a higher
grade level and given more academic and sports opportunities to show off their independent.
However, for other students, the start of another school year is a burden, especially when they re
forced out of summer vacation mode, into a daily routine of having to get up early, expected to follow
school rules again and given a daily dose of homework. Yet, regardless of how one may view the start
a new school term, it is indeed a great opportunity to start over, make new friends, work harder either
on the field or in the classroom and become the best student possible. To ensure your little one(s) have
a successful school year, here are some helpful tips for you to keep/get them on track. Set up an age
appropriate bedtime: A 6 year old shouldn t be allowed to stay up past 8 p.m., and most teenagers will
not approve, going to bed at 8 p.m. According to Parenting, magazine, getting enough sleep is critical
for child development and children performing well in school. In addition to time, if your child is
allowed to visit friends around the neighborhood, enforce an age appropriate curfew time and have
them stick to the rules. Also, if your child has a cellphone and seem to always be distracted by it, set a
curfew time for cellphones to be turned in and charged for the next day. At the end of another school
day, remember to always ask, How was your day?, What was your least

  • 2. Symbols and Symbolism in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The... Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter Nathaniel Hawthorne isn t noted for perfecting any famous literary style, for writing multiple best sellers, or even for contributing largely to classic American literature. His only real claim to fame is The Scarlet Letter: a novel that was originally only meant to be yet another Hawthorne short story. Because of this, it actually possesses many short story characteristics. It is simpler and more complete than his other novels. (James 285) It also has an excellent plot backed by an expert use of literary techniques. One technique Hawthorne used was borrowed solely from drama: the use of the aside. Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale delivers an aside in the midst of the action in chapter three, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, the scarlet letter meant Adulteress and was a sign of scorn. It was a brand used for easy identification of an untrustworthy criminal. But as time progressed, and the initial shock of such actions as adultery subsided, the townspeople, especially the women, took note of the fact that Hester had accepted the responsibility of her actions by sewing the scarlet letter herself. They also observed that she did so with unmatched precision. Eventually this made them yearn for needlepoint talent like she possessed. They began relying on her to sew exquisite patterns for them, gradually inviting her back in their society. By wearing the scarlet letter proudly, Hester had eventually changed the meaning of the A from Adulteress to Able. The townspeople saw Hester for her inner beauty, not for the scarlet letter forever branded onto her bosom. They realized the sacrifice and pain that she went through to regain their trust and respect. Gradually, throughout the novel the scarlet letter becomes an article of pride, and Hester a woman deserving respect. One object that holds great symbolic value is often over looked and discarded as an unimportant detail. It is the black glove that Dimmesdale left on the scaffold after his night vigil of regret and guilt. What, on the surface, may seem as a minute, petty detail becomes rather powerful when the reader realizes that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the global economy developed, organizations have to live in a more complex and changeable environment, making decision according to various factors that could make a difference, such as technology, environment, regulation and policy etc. The ability to adapt changes and deal with future possibility is vital for organizations to survive in a world changes rapidly. However, it seems to be not sufficient to use traditional approaches of strategy in such highly uncertain, intensive and complex competitive environment (Celeste Amorim Varum, 2010). Scenario planning is another tool that has gained much attention during the last decades as an effective tool for sorting future uncertainties and investigating assumptions in organizations (P. Scenario planning provides a solution for organizations to develop in uncertainty by assuming various possibilities about future and help people to make a better decision or plan accordingly. In my opinion, there are three advantages of scenario planning which made it become widely used by organizations in the process of decision making. Firstly, scenario planning can improve the decision making mechanism and activate the managing system, improving the decision making with a more scientific and interactive process. TAIDA™ is a primary model for scenario planning. Hundreds of scenario projects have been carried out on the basis of the model in the past decade (Mats Lindgren, 2003). The Original Argument: The Federalists Case for the Constitution, Adapted for the 21st Century. New York: Threshold Editions, 2011. Print. 398 pages Summary Instead of the Beck and Charles telling a story of a significant person to make a point the Authors discussed the original argument for the United States Constitution. The argument was originally written by the federalists in the late 18th century. These historical documents are commonly referred to as the federalist papers. Beck and Charles go over seven different topics and arguments discussed in the federalist papers. Part One: Novus ordo seclorum: A New Order For the Ages is all about the new way of thinking once the colonies declared independence from England. It discussed how new concepts were being introduced and why a new order was needed for that particular time. In fact Alexander Hamilton sounded a lot like Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln s main objective as president was also to preserve the Union. Hamilton wrote, Nothing remains as obvious as the fact that either the new Constitution will be adopted or the Union will be torn apart. It is therefore necessary to examine the advantages of the Union, as well as the evils and dangers that would result from its disbanding. Family values can be very diverse between different cultures. Some of these family values are the way children are raised, discipline, gender roles in the family, and the way families choose to live. Family values are a major part of Haitian culture and they are very important to Haitians. This is my favorite aspect of all of Haitian Culture. For all Haitian families, no matter what class they are a part of, family life is the most important thing. Middle and upper class Haitian families usually live in urban environments and they practice formal marriages and their family values are more similar to modern American family values. Lower class families have a more informal way of living. Their family environments are more extended family. In all classes, though, family always comes before work or anything else. (Haitian Family) From the very beginning of life, children are thought of as gifts from God. Families will do anything and everything to make sure the children are taken care of and that their needs are met. Parents will even sacrifice their own necessities to be sure that the children get what they need. Mothers will feed their children and make sure they can go to school before they will eat. • 7. Religious Beliefs And The Role Of Dress In The Religious... Religious ideologies regarding dress are based on religious organizations individual dogmas, who believe that your outwardly appearance should reflect your inner beliefs. Similarly, adhering to a strict code of dress, that symbolizes its group s traditions and customs, also helps in controlling the body s sexuality. Hunt Hurst and Miller Spillman (2012) stated that being well dressed (modestly) is a religious duty and not a personal preference (p. 266). Dress in a matter of speaking is an outwardly symbol of religious identification and showing ones connectedness to their religious organization. Arthur (n.d.) believes a group identity is projected through dress because people use self presentation and self promotion to visually present identity that is congruent with their belief systems (Religion and Dress, para. 1). Since each religious organization perceives the role of dress, as it pertains to the expression of identity, differently one must also understand the basis of said religious organizations beliefs in order to comprehend how their beliefs mirror the role of dress. Islam is a monotheistic faith, one that believes in a single God, emphasizes submission to God or Allah, as well as the group over the individual. The Qur an, the literal word of God, lays out the role of dress and its meaning for both men and women (Hunt Hurst Miller Spillman, 2012; Islam, 2017). • 9. How War Has Changed Society War has been around for as long as mankind has existed. War has been around since the beginning for two reasons; because people either wanted to have a better life or to protect their way of life. People go to war to gain land, economic gain, government affiliations, and religion. Over the time that mankind has been around, warfare has changed significantly. There is not much known about prehistoric and warfare. What is known is that war did not happen very often. Small hunting and gathering groups that weathered the last ice age had cause on occasion to attack each other. Such attacks were probably for control of food sources, important raw materials water, trade routes, or perhaps locations of presumed religious significance. Prehistoric hunters equipped themselves with weapons to make their living. It was an easy step to turn those weapons on neighbors. The earliest known burial site that was related to warfare was along the Nile in Nubia. The skeletons have wounds on their bones that are consistent with warding off blows. There were also pieces of what is thought to be small flakes of arrowheads buried along with the bodies. This is significant because war is not a modern thing, it has been around since the beginning of our species. There is a little bit more known about neolithic warfare. During this time there was increased economic incentives for war. Competition and incentive for armed conflict between groups grew once the agricultural revolution began. The food ... • 11. Wind Chill Wind chill is the perceived decrease in air temperature felt by the body on exposed sin due to the flow of cold air. Wind chill temperatures are always lower than air temperature. The human body loses heat through convection, evaporation, conduction and radiation. The rate of heat loss by a surface through convection depends on the wind speed above that surface. As a surface heats the air around it, an insulating boundary layer of warm air forms agains the surface. Moving air disrupts the boundary layer, allowing for new, cooler air to replace the warm air against the surface. The faster the wind speed, the more readily the surface cools. The speed of cooling has different effect on inanimate objects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wind Chill = 35.74 + 0.6215T 35.75(V^0.16) + 0.4275T(V^0.16) T is the air temperature in degrees Fahrenheit, and V is the wind speed in miles per hour. Basically the wind chil factor you hear reported assumes that your exposed face is roughly five feet off th eground, it s night, and you re walking directly into the wind in an open field at a clip of about 3 mph. Remember, the basic concept behind wind chill is that stronger winds will cause exposed skin to cool more quickly. The faster skin cools, the faster frostbite can set it. As wind chills drop south of 50 or so, the onset of frostbite can take as little as five minutes, so it s worth keeping an eye on the wind chill even if the notion of your skin feeling like a certain temperature may be a bit misleading. • 17. Of Civil Disobedience In SophoclesAntigone And Martin... While Antigone and Martin Luther King Jr. both believe a higher good requires them to disobey specific laws, they carry out civil disobedience in different ways. Dr. King publicly fought for Civil Rights through nonviolent protests, marches, and speeches, while Antigone opposed the law of her uncle Kreon and buried her brother, knowing she would be killed. King s Letter from a Birmingham Jail shows the difference between unjust and just laws and his public administration led to a change in racial injustice still clear today, while Antigone attempts to show Kreon his unjust ways instead of saving herself. Although Antigone died for her dedication to family, I sympathize more with Martin Luther King Jr. because his letter and continuous engagement in civil disobedience led to a change for the higher good still present in America today. In Sophocles Antigone, the character Antigone engages in civil disobedience by burying her brother Polyneices and opposing the law of her uncle Kreon. She openly decides to obey the gods and show dedication to her family, even if it meant leading to her death (Blondell). Instead of fighting for her life, Antigone attempts to show Kreon that his law is against the gods and unjust. Throughout the play, Antigone justifies her decision to bury her brother, despite other s opinions. For example, when Antigone first decides to defy Kreon s law she states, what I shall suffer will be far less dire than dying an ignoble death (Blondell 96 97). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Passion For Architectural Design I have always had a passion for being practical for as long as I can remember, I often sought pleasure from helping my parents build dreaded flat pack furniture. Over the years this passion for being practical and building things has just developed into a love for structures and especially in the last few I have been able to hone my passion down to architecture. What could be greater than wanting to design these great edifices and seeing your design built for people to integrate into part of the lives. My application to your university derives from my eagerness to study at one of the best universities in the UK and from my desire to create well designed spaces that are both practical and gratifying to the eye. It also hopes to ensure a satisfaction for my passion for practicality, my appreciation of architecture and hopefully in the future it should secure me a place among some of the architectural greats. As a designer, I am constantly studying the world around me and looking at ways in which I can change and mould it to make it more appealing and suitable for the tasks we undertake in our everyday lives. It causes him to temporarily loathe himself as well as Eleanor, but it also teaches him that he needs to become an individual. Monsignor Darcy seems to be an odd choice for a role model for Amory since Amory continually refers to himself as a paganist (209). However, it is not surprising that Amory idolizes the Monsignor not only because his pagan talk is superficial, but also because Beatrice held the Monsignor in the highest regard. Amory does not mean he believes in paganism when he refers to himself as paganist; he does not know himself well enough to know whether or not he believes in God. John Wycliffe And The Lollards Function The writings of John Wycliffe and the Lollards function as sort of a prequel to the protestant reformation that would sweep through England and Europe in the sixteenth century. It is clear that the Lollards were not all perfect representations of Wycliffe s beliefs. Furthermore, just like the many divisions of Protestantism, Lollardism was made up of many groups of differing opinion. It was not a monolith. However, there are numerous discernible similarities in belief between Wycliffe, and his varied followers, and the eventual English Reformation. The writings of John Wycliffe were a significant precursor in the political and religious developments of the English Reformation. One of the primary concerns of Wycliffe was the temporal power of the clergy. His first works, including the De Civili Dominio, focused on the unwelcomed intrusion of the pope and his clergy into secular affairs. This was not a view unique to the fourteenth century. Kings had often vied against the Pope for power throughout the Middle Ages. The extent of the Pope s influence and power in foreign realms was certainly not a settled issue in England or the rest of Catholic Europe. The De civili dominio suggests that it is the responsibility of the state, and its secular rulers, to judge the morality of the church. Wycliffe begins the De civili dominio by establishing precedent for his ideas by referring to the ancient magi, or three wise men that visited Jesus upon his birth. Wycliffe states a long held ... As a garbage truck driver, he would take me to the San Diego Waste landfill and show me the negative impact waste has on the environment. Despite his broken English, third grade education and limited understanding on sustainability, this experience motivated me to continue my education and become an advocate for sustainable changes in my community. As a Barrio Logan native I have seen the lack of affordable and environmentally friendly resources due to language, education, and socioeconomic barriers. These obstacles restrict long term behavioral changes and are often ignored in government policies. Therefore, my goal as a first generation college student is to become a policymaker that will bring clean, green and sustainable resources to low income communities in San Diego. This stunning painting conveys the modern era that is of china. This canvas of which this painting was painted on was fitted onto a Rococo frame as seen in The David Collection located at Copenhagen, Denmark; that was photographed by Pernille Klemp. The dimensions for the canvas are forty one inches by fifty seven inches. In this art piece oil paint was used on linen canvas to help create different shades of blue color, adding not only more of a vibrant effect but also portraying a mood to the painting. By applying the oil paint, it gave the benefit of making the surface of the painting more smooth. The smoothness of the paint reflected gave more contrast to the painting. The subject manifested within the painting is one in which a man is courting the woman to ultimately making love to one another. It seems as though the man and woman are in a garden that is quiet and contained within the garden is a statue of Buddha hinting at possibly the loss of innocence. The main purpose of Francois Boucher s canvas, Le Chinois Galant, was to demonstrate the cultural influence of the Chinese on the European after both cultures started trading goods in beginning of the fifteenth century. But according to the section DA 2 (1) ITA 2007, it states that deduction for any expenditure or loss to the extent that it is of a capital nature (DA 2 General limitations, 2004). • 28. Coors Brewing Company Case Study Logan M. Smith CWID: 11528601 MGMT 4513 Coors Brewing Company Case Study Background The Coors Brewing Company was founded back in 1873 by two German immigrants Adolph Coors and Jacob Schueler. The two combined invested $20,000, $18,000 of which came from Schueler and the other $2,000 from Coors. The location of the brewery was in the mining town of Golden, Colorado. This location was picked because Mr. Coors believed the key ingredient in beer was the water source. The river that flowed through this mining town was perfect for his beer. The two investors worked together for seven years until Coors bought out Schueler and became the sole owner of the brewery in 1880. When prohibition finally hit Colorado in the year 1916, Mr. Coors was forced to find other means of making money. The brewery was converted to produce malted milk which he would then sell to candy companies. Four years after Adolph Coors passing, in 1929, prohibition is ended and his son, Adolph Coors Jr., takes over the family business. The distribution range of the company quickly expands and by 1948, it stretches across 11 states. It would remain this way for almost 30 years before they start to expand to try and reach a nationwide audience. A famous biologist named Charles Darwin, theorized that evolution happens by natural selection. Many people believe that evolution requires millions of years but scientists believe that evolution can occur rather quickly. In Today s world, we have better health care, food, shelter and hygiene. Some might question if our advanced medicine and technology can lead to a stop in evolution, but in fact we are still evolving according to some scientists (Neild). There has been much debate and controversy over this statement but there is no concrete proof to say that humans are not evolving. Over the past 30,000 years, human brains have decreased about ten percent which is said to be equivalent to a tennis ball. Wilkens states, Based on skulls found in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, the human brain was about 1,500 cubic centimeters 30,000 years ago, and now it s down to about 1,359 cubic centimeters. It might seem like a slow process but losing that much brain mass can surely affect humans one way or another. Although some people might think that humans are getting dumber because of the shrinking of the brain, some scientists strongly believe that is not the case. There are several theories that explain why this phenomenon is happening. One theory states that humans now tend to rely more on society and smaller brains help us work together. It also states that smaller brains cause humans to be less aggressive, giving us many social advantages (Hullinger). Another and more interesting theory states that the reason behind the loss of the human brain mass is because, Domestication leads to smaller brains. • 41. Different Theories For Storm Electrification Essay In order to produce lightning, a cloud must first become electrified. Cloud electrification must occur on two spatial scales. First, a small scale process that charges individual hydrometeors must occur. Second, a large (~5 km) scale process that effectively separates the charges by polarity. There are several primary theories of how storms become electrified. These include a convective mechanism, and inductive mechanism, and lastly a precipitation or non inductive mechanism. These three theories for storm electrification, including their strengths and shortcomings, will be discussed below. 2.4.1 Convective Mechanism In the convective mechanism, charge comes from fair weather space charge and corona near the ground and cosmic rays near the upper atmosphere. Updrafts carry positive space charge to the top of the cloud. Negative charge near the top is attracted to the positive charge and is carried down by downdrafts. The negative charge then produces corona at the ground, yielding positive charge that can be carried by updrafts. However, models show that not nearly enough charge is produced for a typical thunderstorm from this mechanism. Further, it is unclear how this accounts for the temperature dependence of the charge structure (MacGorman and Rust 1998). Thus, the convective mechanism does not explain the primary charging mechanism. 2.4.2 Induction Mechanism Historically, one of the earliest theories for cloud electrification was an inductive mechanism. ... Questions On Capture Intangible Costs Chapter Five: Proposed questions to capture intangible costs 5.1 Introduction The objective of this chapter is to generate relevant questions that can be used in the development of a questionnaire that can capture the intangible costs of stillbirth. To achieve these objectives, the themes from the qualitative synthesis, as reported in chapter four will be prioritised in terms of the frequency of their occurrence in the identified studies. Among the eight themes that were identified in the previous chapter, the outstanding theme that emerged across nearly all the studies was depression . This was followed closely by need for support . The next two most common themes were profound grief and social isolation . Within the qualitative synthesis, three themes: couples relationship , siblings issues and return to normality seemed to be of relatively equal importance. However, two of these themes (couples relationship and siblings issues) have the same connotation and seemed to point at similar issues relating to impacts on the family. Of least importance was the theme of recovery which is arguably an intangible benefit and is therefore irrelevant to the aim of the dissertation. Themes with similar ideas were merged and this resulted in a total of four sections (A, B, C and D). In order to explicitly capture the intangible costs of stillbirth, the proposed questions that emerge from each section are included below. 5.2 Sections A: Depression/Profound grief The ...
