Sign language has many beneficial uses for young children. Not only are you teaching your child a
way to communicate other than talking, but you can also teach them other things. I have found that
using sign language to teach sight words very beneficial. This project is perfect for those parents who
have already started teaching their toddler sign language. Your toddler will first need to have the
alphabet basics of sign language down packed, before moving on to sight words. The first thing that
you will need to do is create a list of sight words. You can purchase sight word flashcards from your
local Walgreens store, or even online at Walgreens.com. Once you have your flashcards you can start
with the first word.
You can start by picking the first word that you will work with for the week. Show your child how to
sign that first word. When you show them the way to make the word with their hands you can also
show them the card. This should be your project of the first week. Stick with one word for at least a
few weeks. Remember you don t want to be in any hurry to teach your child each words. Allow them
to take their time and slowly learn their sign language sight words. Not only will you be helping them
get started on the way to reading, with their eyes, but they will also be learning how to better
communicate with their hands.

Abstract This paper presents unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) which is an integration of
shunt and series Active Power Filters and aims to compensate for voltage sag, voltage and current
unbalance and other power quality problems [1],[5],[6]. The UPQC helps to improve power quality at
the point of installation on power distribution system or industrial power system. This paper deals
with design of UPQC by considering a controller based on PQ theory. Reference signal generation for
shunt active filter is done by using PQ theory while for series dual PQ theory is used [2], [3].
Reference signals are then applied to pulse generators. Pulse generation is carried out by using
hysteresis band controller for each filter. The validation of proposed scheme is carried out by using
Matlab/Simulink.
