TEAM TEACHING
INTRODUCTION
 Team teaching is two or more teachers bring their expertise in the
class room on the same subject but on the topic in which they have
mastery.
 NAIK MB has defined team teaching ‘’ in team teaching method two
or more teachers make a plan of the subject co-operatively carry it
out and always evaluate its effects on students.
 According to APTER ‘’team teaching involves bringing together a
number of classes whose teaching is then the joint responsibility of
the teachers of these classes who constitute a team.
OBJECTIVES OF TEAM TEACHING
To utilize the better talents and interests of teachers.
To increase grouping and scheduling flexibility.
To improve the quality of instruction.
To bring more dynamism in time table construction.
PRINCIPLES OF TEAM TEACHING
 Size and composition of the group for team teaching should be appropriate
in terms of learning experiences and purpose of the group.
 Time factor; Time should b allotted keeping in consideration the importance
of the subject.
 Learning climate should be provided by making arrangements like
laboratory, library ,audio, video etc.
 Level of team teaching must be appropriate to the learners
CHARACTERISTICS OF TEAM
TEACHING
 Team teaching is a formal type of co –operatively staff organization.
 In team teaching a group of teachers undertake the task of teaching.
 In team teaching a group of teachers share the responsibility for planning,
instructing , and evaluating a teaching program
 Team teaching results in improved instruction
TYPES OF TEAM TEACHING
HIERARCHIC TEAM TEACHING: The structure of a hierarchic
team teaching may be linked to a pyramid with a team leader at
the apex, master teachers just below and regular teachers at
the base.
SYNERGETIC TEAM TEACHING: Synergetic team teaching
groups are formed through the co-operation of two or more
teachers working together as professional equals.
FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCCESS OF
TEAM TEACHING
Co-operation among team teachers.
Availability of audio visual aids.
Need for proper planning.
STYLES OF TEAM TEACHING
 Team teaching in the same period: In the style , team
members discuss the various aspects of the same topic in
the same class period
 Specialization based team teaching: In this style, team
members with different subject specialization are
responsible for all activities of instruction starting from
course formulation to evaluation.
 Ability based team teaching :In this style ,a team is
responsible for all the instructional activities.
PROCEDURES OF TEAM TEACHING
 Planning stage: Topic ,objectives ,initial and terminal behavior of learners ,
teaching aids, teaching strategy , members of the team, assigning duties to
each member.
 Execution stage: Diagnosing the learners previous knowledge , adopting proper
communication strategy , presentation of the lecture by team leader.
 Evaluation stage: Based on the objectives evaluate whether the student has
achieved it and evaluating the level of performance, diagnosing the difficulties
and give remedial treatment.
ADVANTAGES OF TEAM TEACHING
 It will save time and energy
 Opportunity for free discussion
 Development of human relationships
 Development of the professional status of the teacher
 Exposure of group to more specialists
LIMITATIONS OF TEAM TEACHING
 Lack of co-operation among the team teachers
 Disregarded to the dynamics of small groups
 Traditional conservative attitudes
 High cost
 Lack of interest

INTRODUCTION  Team teaching is two or more teachers bring their expertise in the class room on the same subject but on the topic in which they have mastery.  NAIK MB has defined team teaching ‘’ in team teaching method two or more teachers make a plan of the subject co-operatively carry it out and always evaluate its effects on students.  According to APTER ‘’team teaching involves bringing together a number of classes whose teaching is then the joint responsibility of the teachers of these classes who constitute a team.
  • 5. OBJECTIVES OF TEAM TEACHING To utilize the better talents and interests of teachers. To increase grouping and scheduling flexibility. To improve the quality of instruction. To bring more dynamism in time table construction.

PRINCIPLES OF TEAM TEACHING  Size and composition of the group for team teaching should be appropriate in terms of learning experiences and purpose of the group.  Time factor; Time should b allotted keeping in consideration the importance of the subject.  Learning climate should be provided by making arrangements like laboratory, library ,audio, video etc.  Level of team teaching must be appropriate to the learners

CHARACTERISTICS OF TEAM TEACHING  Team teaching is a formal type of co –operatively staff organization.  In team teaching a group of teachers undertake the task of teaching.  In team teaching a group of teachers share the responsibility for planning, instructing , and evaluating a teaching program  Team teaching results in improved instruction

TYPES OF TEAM TEACHING HIERARCHIC TEAM TEACHING: The structure of a hierarchic team teaching may be linked to a pyramid with a team leader at the apex, master teachers just below and regular teachers at the base. SYNERGETIC TEAM TEACHING: Synergetic team teaching groups are formed through the co-operation of two or more teachers working together as professional equals.
  • 9. FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCCESS OF TEAM TEACHING Co-operation among team teachers. Availability of audio visual aids. Need for proper planning.

STYLES OF TEAM TEACHING  Team teaching in the same period: In the style , team members discuss the various aspects of the same topic in the same class period  Specialization based team teaching: In this style, team members with different subject specialization are responsible for all activities of instruction starting from course formulation to evaluation.  Ability based team teaching :In this style ,a team is responsible for all the instructional activities.

PROCEDURES OF TEAM TEACHING  Planning stage: Topic ,objectives ,initial and terminal behavior of learners , teaching aids, teaching strategy , members of the team, assigning duties to each member.  Execution stage: Diagnosing the learners previous knowledge , adopting proper communication strategy , presentation of the lecture by team leader.  Evaluation stage: Based on the objectives evaluate whether the student has achieved it and evaluating the level of performance, diagnosing the difficulties and give remedial treatment.
