The 400 Blows Analysis
The 400 Blows is a French New Wave film made in 1959, directed by François Truffaut as his debut
feature film. The film focuses on the trials and tribulations of a young adolescent named Antoine
Doinel played by Jean Pierre Léaud, who is growing up in Paris during the early 1950s. While trying
to find freedom from the craziness of life, Antoine is faced with overcoming loneliness and the harsh
consequences on his unexplained actions. Inspired by Truffaut s personal life, the director expresses
pivotal moments of his own childhood through a rendition of Antoine. Truffaut s directorial premiere
owes the success of his first feature film to the outstanding performances, beautiful cinematography,
and chaotic production design. Truffaut s unstable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see from clever fades Jump cuts, match cuts and various long takes. Truffaut does this in an effort
to move forward his vision of the auteur theory. The opening sequence uses a series of high angle
shots to assist in establishing a feeling of childhood innocence and indeed, the child in this film,
Antoine Dionel (Jeanne Pierre Leaud), starts out innocent. The camera focuses of the city buildings
and the sky above. As shown from a ground point of view, the buildings are larger than life and
intimidating. This is how most children view the world, as being large and intimidating. Take, for
example, the scenario of dropping a child off for his/her first day of school. Most of them are
devastated because they have to deal with a world that is larger than the one they know, and that is
intimidating. The sky is vast and innocent, symbolizing a child s mind. Children have incredible
imaginations and are also innocent by nature. There is a definite correlation here between the angle
selected and the sense of childhood innocence. However, this particular camera angle does not always
hold the same meaning in every

BACKGROUND
As energy flows from a liquid, its temperature drops. The entropy, or random ordering of its particles,
also decreases until a specific ordering of the particles results in a phase change to a solid. If energy is
being released or absorbed by a substance remaining at the same temperature, this is evidence that a
dramatic change in entropy, such as a phase change, is occurring. Because all of the particles of a pure
substance are identical, they all freeze at the same temperature, and the temperature will not change
until the phase change is complete. If a substance is impure, the impurities will not lose energy in the

8. Set up the container for the hot water bath. Attach two ring clamps, one above the other, to the
second ring stand beneath the test tube assembly. Place a wire gauze with ceramic center on the lower
ring. Set a third 600 mL beaker, which should be empty, on the gauze and raise the beaker toward the
test tube assembly until it surrounds nearly one half of the tube s length. The beaker will pass through
the ring clamp without gauze, and the test tube should not touch the bottom or sides of the beaker. The
top clamp keeps the beaker from tipping when the beaker is filled with the hot water.
PART 2 MELTING A SOLID: QUICK TEST
9. Check the temperature of the water for the hot water bath. When it is 85°C, turn off the burner or
hot plate. If the temperature is already greater than 85°C, shut off the burner or hot plate, and add a
few pieces of ice to bring the temperature down to 85°C. Then, using beaker tongs remove the beaker
of hot water from the burner. Using tongs or hot mitts carefully pour the water into the empty beaker
until the water level is well above the level of the solid inside the test tube. Set the empty beaker on
the counter. You will use it again in step 20.
10. Begin timing. The second the water is poured, one member of the lab group should begin timing,
while the other reads the initial temperatures of the bath with one thermometer and sample with the
other thermometer.

The Impact Of Colonization On The Indigenous People Of...
In regions of colonization, a significant issue that emerges in the native community is a disruption of
identity resulting from an influx of colonial European ideals. As a result of colonization, the native
identity is subjected to threats of marginalization by the invasion and domination of European cultural
practices and language. The detrimental impact of colonization on the indigenous people of Rhodesia
in Nervous Conditions is illustrated by the dominance of the British Empires colonial European
identity, which is perpetuated by the conception that Englishness will civilize the population. In Tsitsi
Dangarembga s Nervous Conditions, the natives of Rhodesia, Tambu and Nyasha, illustrate a hybrid
identity crisis as a result of imperial oppression over the language and educational system of the
nation. The role of English language and culture, imposed by colonial education, emphasizes the
movement for natives to abandon their indigenous cultural and linguistic roots. The mental
colonization of the colonized by the means of English language, education, and European cultural
values results in a state of displacement, alienation, and identity confusion in the individual. In the
novel, Dangarembga depicts the victimization of the Shona language through the educated characters
eagerness to adopt and imitate the practices of the English. The imposition of a new language on the
native community is used as a medium through which the hierarchal structure of power is

Summary Of Bound By Kehinde Wiley
The most influential artist to me in this exemplary in this pursuit for the appropriated traditions is
Kehinde Wiley. In his opening speech for the New Republic gallery show he expressed that things
such as his work was evolved around the working of chance . In his case, he manipulates the chance of
the representation of the black demographic in traditional work. Modifying the figurative works to
create the chance for relating a body that is familiar. I see contemporary painter, Kehinde Wiley as a
comparable to my work in regards to the topic as well as the manipulation of the human figure. The
admirable features I see in Kehinde Wiley s work in addition to these is the fantasy elements that are
incorporated. These features are best exhibited in his piece, Bound . The work is a bronze sculpture
that stands approximately four feet tall and two and half feet wide. The composition is inviting as it
includes busts of three identical women that have African descent features that are placed on a
rounded triangle base. The expressions on all of the faces are of a staring and wondering nature that
have a nature of regality as their faces are turned to the right at an approximate forty five degree angle
as their all have their back facing each other to form a guard of the leaves the a laid on their base. The
bodies are cut organically as it rounds off from shoulder to shoulder, just enough to form the upper
torso to see the corset like dress that encompass the figure. Expanding

Child Poverty in New Zealand
Child poverty is a major and complex issue that New Zealand faces today. The degree is far more
severe than the public s perception and it is a problem that we cannot afford to ignore. A combination
of factors contributes to child poverty, from individual causes at the micro level to the macro
collective government involvement. This occurs partly due to social construction and it is potentially
avoidable. The consequences can impact on both individual and to a great extent affect significantly
on the country as a whole. If the issue is not resolved, the inequality will continue, if not worsen and
becomes an ongoing intergeneration cycle. The poor get poorer and poorer , children can easily fall
into the poverty trap where it becomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socio economic factors are widely acknowledged as important determinants of poverty. If an
individual experiences adverse living conditions in childhood, majority of them will have inadequate
income and result in low socio economic status as adults (Carroll et al, 2011). Children born in poor
households have difficulty in accessing the basic needs (e.g. food, clothing, and good living
environment) and this can affect their learning ability at school, unable to focus. In other words, they
have a higher chance of dropping out of school or lower education attainment, unable to provide
appropriate qualifications when they move onto adulthood, seeking for job opportunities. These
children are finding day to day life tough, they are living in cold, damp houses, do not have warm or
rain proof clothing, their shoes are worn, and many days they go hungry (Children s Commissioner,
2012). Often this has taken place over a long period of time, impacting on their development,
behaviour and physical health furthermore limiting their potential as they grow into adults.
Unemployment or underemployment can cause significant household stressors; parent may feel
incompetent to meet the basic needs for their children, unable to make ends with financial problems.
Consequently, individual seek alcohol and drug as a way to escape their problems. This could lead to
child abuse; children who suffer from this can develop emotional,

Benjamin Franklin s Influence On American History
Discoveries, Historical Events and Evolution took place mostly in the eighteenth century. Benjamin
Franklin was one of the many people to discover new outcomes in science experiments, take part of
important historical events in the newborn America and was the main reason why America evolved as
an Independent Nation today. The thirteen colonies was ruled by the British in the eighteenth century.
These colonies were located along the eastern coast of America. The colonies started at New
Hampshire and ended in Georgia. Benjamin was born on January 6, 1706, in Boston, Massachusetts.
Education in his early life ended by the age of ten. By the age of twelve, he went to work as a printer
with his older sibling James. At the age of seventeen, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

machine for the whole city to use. Since they received this donation, Ben and a couple of his friends
began to take interest in electricity because that machine gave such a great amount of curiosity to all
philadelphians. Franklin wrote a book on his studies on electricity in 1751, this copy went through
three different languages including english. One of his experiments on electricity was trying to
identify the difference between thunderbolts and electricity. Ben flew a kite in a dangerous
thunderstorm in france on June tenth, 1752. With the help of his son, William, they hooked up his kite
to a silk string, tying an metal key to where the bolt would strike it. Ben s educated guess was that the
lightning itself was an electrical phenomenon, and the electrical effect of the lightning bolt striking it
might be able to transfer to another object. Also the causes and effects in the experiment could be
recognized as electricity. Concluding this experiment, it successfully showed that the energy from the
bolt was static energy. Ben grew more popularity conducting this

Research Paper On Graffiti
Graffiti Is it art or vandalism? What is graffiti? Graffiti has been thought of as art and vandalism at the
same time, but the reasons for it are different not having approval and the meaning behind what they
put up being inappropriate, would be considered vandalism. In my opinion, it s both but it depends .
Art is completely different considering it s actually appropriate. The reasons of graffiti being
considered vandalism is how teens will write improper things. Such as gang signs and inappropriate
phrases, nobody wants to see that in their neighborhood. Without having consent they can get

Wisdom In Plato s Dialogue Apology
Wisdom is cement. Wisdom is used to make new pathways but is often referred to as intelligence.
However they are not the same, some who are intelligent cannot receive wisdom because they are
arrogant, but there are few that break this barrier and realize that they actually know nothing because
they are forever learning. Such as Socrates in the dialogue Apology by Plato, Plato analyzes Socrates
journey to disprove his wisdom by questioning the most respected and talented people in Athens.
Through ethos and paradox Plato reveals a respectful tone for his mentor Socrates. Socrates makes
himself more credible when he exposes his ethos to the audience. He states that he has the god of
Delphi, Chaerephon an important figure in their society and

Swing Voters Research Paper
Have you ever had noticed how easily it is for someone to influence and change your decision when
you re on the fence about an issue? Due to their inexperience in the electorate teens may also be easily
swayed and have their opinions changed. This would just enlarge the number of swing voters. A swing
voter is a voter who has no allegiance to any political party and whose unpredictable decisions can
swing the outcome of an election one way or the other. There s a vicious fight for these precious
voters, as they re the ones who can change the direction of an election. Swing voters can be especially
vulnerable during the weeks leading up to an election when voters who have not yet pledged
allegiance to a certain candidate can be influenced and

Celebrity Culture And Its Impact On Society
The media has been around since the invention of the printing press in the 1400s. It became easier for
information to spread all over Europe and then the world as the printing press spread to different parts
of the world. The media began to change as new inventions televisions, radios, and computers were
introduced to the general population. A different kind of culture was introduced to the world in the
United States: celebrity culture. Celebrity culture is the general public passion with celebrity that grew
in the country with the invention of motion pictures and the foundation of Hollywood. Our version of
celebrity culture has changed since the invention of the internet and several social media sites such as

People sometimes even look up to them as being perfect for having the good lifestyle. In Kirsty
Fairclough s Celebrity, Youth Culture and The Question of Role Models, she said that teenagers are
likely to connect with [celebrities] that they feel best represent them as well as those that do not

study that suggests that 80% of [Americans] had discussed the political views of celebrities with
friends (Cox 5). Another example of how celebrities are changing is Tina Fey and the 2008
Presidential Election. Tina Fey impersonated Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live (SNL) during the
2008 Presidential Election and had a small effect on the election, according to The Fey Effect: Young
Adults, Political Humor, and Perceptions of Sarah Palin in the 2008 Presidential Election Campaign.
The authors suggest that the performance is associated with changes in attitudes toward her selection
as VP candidate and presidential vote intentions (Baumgartner et al., 2012). Those celebrities are
proven to have a positive influence in everyday lives, but some of them could be negative enough.

A Despicable Tale Of Trickery
I don t see any morally acceptable behaviors in any tricksters in the stories. The hare refused to chip in

was able to drink from it. He deserve to be punished but not to that extreme. I don t blame them for
beating him up that bad because at that point, they are all trying to survive. The ant s burden story is
another despicable tale of trickery. He murdered a dwarf, tried to trick his son to claim the murder and
passed on his punishment to other by means of trickery. He was punished for his offense but somehow

Social Cognitive Theory And Social Involvement Theory
Involvement Theory
The involvement theory discusses the amount and level of energy, time, and participation spent
engaged in a particular activity (Lee, Lee Yoo, 2004). Witmer and Singer (1998) defined involvement
as a psychological state experienced as a consequence of focusing one s energy and attention on a
coherent set of stimuli or meaningfully related activities and events (p. 226). The involvement theory
has been used in various disciplines including student involvement, product involvement, and
customer involvement. Rocha Flores et al. (2014) posited that the lack of security awareness or
knowledge among users is an indicator of a low level of information security involvement. According
to Safa et al. (2016) information security knowledge sharing, collaboration, and experience represents
the level of effort, participation and time that users engage in security activities, hence they represent
levels of involvement. Therefore this study will incorporate knowledge sharing, collaboration, and
experience as a measure of involvement to determine their impact on users technology threat
avoidance motivation and further avoidance behavior.
Social Cognitive Theory The social cognitive theory (SCT), formerly known as the social learning
theory (Bandura, 1986) is widely used in the understanding of learning processes. SCT originated
from the areas of psychology and communication and has been used in understanding computer
behavior (Shillair et al., 2015; Cho, Lee, Chung, 2010; Compeau Higgins, 1995; Workman, Bommer,
Straub, 2008; Yi Im, 2004). SCT postulates that human behavior is a dynamic relationship where
cognitive factors and environmental influences interact with behavior factors (Bandura, 1986, 1991,
1997). SCT assists in building confidence and self efficacy, as users learn through observation or
vicarious experiences (Anderson Agarwal, 2010; Bandura, 1991). This learning experience is
influence by the environmental factor, social norm.
Prior computer security related studies examine social influence as a predictor of user behavior
(Culnan Williams, 2009; Hu, Dinev, Hart, Cooke, 2012; Lowry Moody, 2015; Posey et al., 2013 ;
Vance et al., 2013). However, many of these studies

The Event Of The Olympic Games
The Olympic games have become a worldwide event that is watched by millions of people who are
either physically sitting in the stands, or sitting at home on their couches. These games bring people
from countries all around the world together where they can forget about their problems for a couple
of days every two years. Over time, the games have been being banned, have overcome gender
discrimination, and had conflicts with many major historical events.
The first ancient Olympic games were held in Olympia, Greece in 776 BC. The Greek people
worshipped the gods, and the idea of these games came from the need to have something to dedicate
to them. The Greeks used the city of Olympia as a place for worship, and as a meeting place for
religious and political practices. At first, the games were only played for one day, but in 684 BC they
were extended to three days, then during the 5th century BC, the games were changed to last five
days. Status was not a factor when it came to who could participate in the games; any free male citizen
was allowed to participate. Women, however, were forbidden to participate in, or be a spectator at, the
games if they were married, but women who were unmarried were allowed to be spectators. The
ancient Olympics only consisted of seven events: long jump, discus throw, running, shot put, boxing,
horse and chariot races, and pankration (a mixture of boxing and wrestling in a type of martial arts)
(Ancient Olympic Games). In 708 BC, a pentathlon, a

Women Should Be Legal For Combat
Women should be allowed to serve in combat roles in the military Some argue that women should not
serve in combat because; they have never served in any type of combat operations in the history of the
American military. Positions in the military have been designed specifically for women and how they
perform their duties. No evidence can be produced that women have the abilities, physical strength, or
motivation to engage in combat operations, the physical differences from their male counterparts are
so extreme; women cannot maintain the agility or psychological confidence that men are capable of
displaying during extreme combat stress. However, this thinking misses the point. History has shown
as far back as the Revolutionary War, women such as Molly Pitcher, who took up her husband s
position as an artillery gunner, after he was injured in combat. More recently during the wars in Iraq
and Afghanistan have had many women put into stressful combat situations, with very little training,
and were able to engage the enemy effectively, and in some cases displayed courageous actions that
saved lives. They were able to physically and mentally handle the combat stress equally with their
male counterparts. Several women have also recently been allowed to attend advanced combat
training, such as the U.S. Army Ranger School. Additionally, with much opposition to women serving
in combat units, the Department of Defense has recently opened all combat related positions including

Social Work As A Social Worker
There are many helping professions. Society has doctors, therapist, teachers, nurses, etc. To help
means to assist, which means to serve. Every business has the infrastructure to serve a need presented
for whatever motives lay behind the person s reasoning. What makes social work idiosyncratic unlike
the rest is the willingness and passion to promote human well being. I yearn and hunger to see growth
of what is already innate. That is the reason psychology became my undeclared major.
My ignorance of the social work role did create misconceptions and fears. I knew I had to be in some
helping profession. I was not sure if I would do so through occupational therapy, psychology,
teaching, or social work. I wanted to be a social worker, but I was afraid of the danger associated with
it by giving way to stereotypes. No one wants to be shot or harassed due to taking someone s child
from a terrible environment. This is what I defined social work as. I was a psychology major with a
niche for social and child developmental psychology. I as three years into the Bachelor of Science
Psychology program and I began to develop a distaste for psychology methodology. The field
appeared to be competitive and only research or clinical driven, which I believed confine the goals I
set for myself. I was tired of rehearing the same old man psychological theories that had a narrow
scope. The competition was not intimidating, but it was unnecessary and defeating to turn out rates of

Narrative Style In Frankenstein
In Mary Shelly s book, Frankenstein, she writes with a narrative style. A narrative style is telling a
story. In the book Frankenstein is telling his story to Walton who is writing the story in a letter to his
sister, Margaret. The readers do not know Frankenstein is telling the story until the end when he is on
his death bed and the you he used was not to the readers but to Walton. Right after we see he is writing
this down in a letter to his sister. Frankenstein follows Frankenstein s story in order, only to go back to
catch up on what his monster did. The writing style is shown many times in the story including this
quote, ... and I myself was about to sink under the accumulation of distress when I saw your vessel
riding at anchor... (Shelly 184). In this quote, we read when Frankenstein sees Walton s ship during his
chase of his monster. In the beginning of the book Frankenstein starts back from his birth and
progresses to tell his life story. Chapter I starts with, I am by birth a Genevese; and my family is one
of the most distinguished of that republic. (Shelly 27). Mary Shelly s Frankenstein is an example of
narrative writing because the book is a story and follows the sequence of events in Frankenstein s life.
Frankenstein contains many quotes on revenge, regret, passion, etc. The first quote is when
Frankenstein brought his experiment to life. It was already one in the morning; the rain patterned
dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out,

Detroit Riots Essay
The Detroit riots occurred in the summer of 1967. The riot initially started because of race when poor
African Americans got kicked out of their houses. They started living on 12th street in Detroit. The
riot started there because African Americans were fed up with the way that they were being treated.
Many years prior to the riot there were already racial issues. The government made it hard for African
Americans to buy houses in the 1950s. During that time, white people were resisting African
Americans from moving into Detroit. They were gathering outside of houses owned by African
Americans until they would leave. According to Stanford, I was blissfully unaware of the pervasive
racism and resentment that was simmering in my city (28). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This was showing even more racial issues even in the law enforcement which is supposed to protect
everyone no just people of their nationality. Riots were happening for the same issues in Cleveland,
Chicago, Omaha, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Since all these riots were occurring far away from
Detroit many Detroiters thought that their city would spare the riots. Sadly, they were wrong.
In July 23, 1967, the Detroit Police department busted a bar with a prominent number of African
Americans. They arrested every person in the bar. More and more people started to gather on 12th
street to watch the proceedings. That is when the rioting started. The crowd began to get more violent
as more people joined.
During the riot, the first fire started at a shoe store on 12th. Officers were starting to line up with
shields standing next to each other to block the rioting from spreading any further. There were
authorities having a meeting to try and stop the riot. They were trying to make peace patrols but the
police officers were blocking them from entering the area of the riot. The police officers were still
trying to take control of the situation but their officers were being injured and the rioters started to
outnumber them by a lot. As the police officers were giving up the firefighters were putting out fires.
There were new fires starting as fast as they were being put out.

Examples Of Irony In Good Country People
What is a Good Country Person? Who makes the decision in whether a person is good or not. Is there
such thing as good person? When a person thinks that they are always good, it probably means that
they are are lying because no one person is perfect. Although there is no such thing as a perfect
person, often times people are sometimes perceived to be perfect or better than they really are.
Perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. In her article
on the morality of perception, Gayman acknowledges, Unlike mere recognition, perception requires
the work of the intelligence and demands careful observation and engaged attention (1). Being able to
perceive the character of a person is necessary if a person wants to fully trust another person. In Good
Country People by Flannery O Connor, irony, symbolism, and characterization are used to prove that
one s perception of something or someone is not always reliable.
Irony is the expression of one s meaning by using language that usually means the opposite. Typically
in literature, irony is used in emphatic sense. There is a multitude of irony in Good Country People.
The character s names of this story are incredibly ironic. Joy Hulga is ironic because she is the furthest
from being joyful. Another example is, Mrs. Freeman. She is not free because she has been hired and
enslaved by Mrs. Hopewell. Another type of irony in Good Country People is how Joy Hulga s

Mr. Jones year 5 class, has students that are gifted, have high functioning autism, and anxiety. Support
is not yet determined. As a teacher, he wants to exude a sense of efficacy. According to O Donnell et
al. (2016) self efficacy is being perceptive and having the ability to manage situations. Dealing with
additional needs O Donnell et al. (2016) emphasised that 89 per cent of children aged 5 and 14 years
go to mainstream schools. Disruptions in the classroom due to the environment not being set up will
affect all students. KidsMatter (2012 b) communicates that research articles only focus on individuals
with impairments, however, being inclusive applies to all students to value holistic development in the
classroom.
Gifted students have great cognitive skills with aptitudes to obtain achievement greater than peers (O
Donnell et al., 2016). Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority [ACARA] (n.d.)
expressed students vary in abilities and some gifted individuals have trouble turning gifts into talents .

Byzantine Empire Derivation
The derivation of the expansive civilization also known as the Byzantine Empire can be traced as far
back to 330 CE. It started when the Roman Emperor Constantine I dedicated a site located in the
Ancient Greek settlement, Byzantium, to the empire and as a result the location was declared New
Rome . Although, in the later centuries, the western side of the Roman Empire dissolved in 476, the
eastern side remained intact and survived for at least another ten centuries, which resulted in the
spawning of enriched artist tradition, literature and learning, that served as a militia buffer between the
newer European States and the threat of the Asian States invasion. Despite there stronghold and
tactfulness, the empire fell in 1453 after the Ottoman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the location of the destination on a strait it was rather difficult to breach the defences of the
capital. In addition to this, the eastern empire had much shorter frontier with the rest of the European
empire. The Eastern Emperors learnt from the mistakes of their Western brothers, and were able to
exert more control over the economic resources of the empire as well as muster the sufficient amount
of manpower required to combat against invasion from all sides. As a result of these advantages, the
Eastern sect of the Roman Empire was able to survive for centuries after the corrosion of the Western

Textual Analysis Of Hate Speech
Discursive practices were evident in this article as ideologies were discussed (Schroder, 2012:115), for
example minority and majority groups were analysed according to the comments of hate speech as
people in Slovenia write hate speech towards editors or political groups that they don t agree with and
to influence political participation (Erjavec Kovačič, 2012:917). This emphasises the fact that with the
use of discursive practices and discourse analysis one can gain insight about a particular issue and
construct opinions regarding the use of hate speech (Schroder, 2012:115). With the help of critical
discourse analysis the author was able to find the reasons and values behind hate speech. This
influences the argument stating that the reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is evident as four strategies regarding hate speech which came about from the critical discourse
analysis of the comments were analysed. The first strategy is known as the rearticulation of the
meaning of news items and so they change the meaning and refer to politics and nationality. The
second strategy is the rearticulation of domestic political topics, the third strategy is the rearticulation
of events and situations and the fourth strategy is the attack on certain celebrities opinions (Erjavec
Kovačič, 2012:907 908). This emphasises the effectiveness of the analysis of text and how important
it is to deeply analyse the posts and identify the meanings behind them. These strategies influence the
author s arguments stating that most of hate speech is directed towards an opposite side and that all
hate speech is based on political issues (Erjavec Kovačič,

Developing Commercial Ehr Systems For A Health Information...
Introduction Though the new system has received much praise, a problem arises when communication
between two or more EHR systems becomes poor and ineffective. Currently, some companies have
ventured into developing commercial EHR systems following the product s growing market. The
reason behind this is to allow sharing of patient information within a Health Information Exchange
(HIE) platform; the expected outcome is improved care regardless of what hospital a patient is in.
Jolly (2011), affirms there are more than 300 electronic health record systems in the market . This
means that competition is growing in this sector and each developer is looking to emerge as the victor
in terms of sales and installations. Though having numerous HER ... Show more content on

They define standardization as allowing data to be shared and viewed anywhere, independent of
hardware or software. This concept is the reason behind the success of World Wide Web as websites
are easily accessible to all computers, mobile phones, regardless of the browser of operating system
one is using. Currently, there is little to no standardization that is identified when it comes to dealing
with medical information (Greenway, Epic achieve EHR interoperability, 2013) A possible reason is
that EHR systems are owned and developed through privatized means. Such an evolution contrasts
with the internet whereby the government and educational institutions are credited for having
developed the idea. Undoubtedly, there is a dire need of wanting to connect or link different computer
systems. It is unfortunate that EHRS are based on a policy of keeping information or data private thus
disallowing any attempts for it to be shared. As of now, the only way to share data is through forcing
developers who at the moment are looking to create their own technique of doing so (Notto Skolnik,
2014). In similar fashion, Otto (2014) emphasizes on the need to have a standardized system that is
not bound by the hardware, software or even operation system that one is using. He argues that the
lack of standardization in EHR systems blocks the potential of finding possible

Flume Drop Essay
Harley Edward Streten, aka Flume, is an Australian DJ and record producer. There isn t anything
special about him appearance wise unlike other DJs, such as Marshmello or deadmau5, who have a
distinct look. Flume usually sports the generic frat boy uniform consisting of chubbies, a button down,
and boat shoes. His music, however, is unmistakeable. His debut studio self titled album, Flume, was
released on November 9th, 2012 and introduced the world to what is now known as the Flume drop .
According to HP Cheung of Hypebeast, the Flume drop can be best described as heavily compressed,
shimmery, oscillating, side chained, pitch bending, white noise integrated wall of sound. His most
popular songs, Holdin on , a remix of Lorde s Tennis Court and Disclosure s You Me are the best
examples of the Flume drop. There is more to his music other than his recognizable drop. When asked
about how he came about developing his signature sound, he explained that
Firstly, I wanted it to be really melodic, but not necessarily for the club, so it could be listened to on
headphones. Secondly, I wanted to project the feeling that hip hop has rhythmically. I love dance
music and electronic music but sometimes I felt that it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Electrical Engineering And The Field Of Engineering
Electrical Engineering is a well respected and growing field of engineering that centers on the
practical application of electricity, electromagnetism and electronics. The field is of considerable
necessity to modern life and infrastructure, having applications in many diverse branches of modern
life. Some of these include telecommunications, energy and power distribution, transportation,
manufacturing and consumer electronics. In this report we will go over the education and coursework
requirements, fields of the industry, the work environment, salary, tools of the trade, and professional
organizations of electrical engineers. According to Frederick Terman; Electrical Engineering as a
discipline first appeared in the United States during the early 1880 s as classes in physics and energy
flows intended to prepare students to enter the new and fast growing electrical manufacture industry.
As the industry grew, EE education followed. Within ten years the discipline made a place for itself
along the more classical engineering departments. An example of the industry s adaptability to change
would be the industry before and after the First World War. Before WWI, work in the industry was
concentrated primarily on the distribution of power, building electric infrastructure using the
properties of AC and DC circuits. Also before WWI, many students did not opt to take on graduate
work. Instead, students typically would obtain a Bachelor s of Science and learn practical skills in

The Influence Of The Pointe Shoes In The Romantic Era
Whether we look at a romantic ballet like La Sylphide or a classical ballet such as Sleeping Beauty,
audiences are constantly mesmerized by the gracefulness and weightlessness of the ballet dancers.
They seem to defy the laws of physics, which is greatly possible due to the use of the pointe shoe.
However, many masterworks that were created in the Romantic era did not solely rely on the pointe
shoe to help convey messages. Instead, the choreography, dancers, scenic elements, subject matter,
and music all helped shaped masterworks such as La Sylphide, Napoli, and Giselle. Similarly, in the
Classical era, these elements all played a role in shaping famous ballets like La Bayadere, Sleeping
Beauty, and Swan Lake. But once we take a closer look at these ballets from the Classical era, we can
see how much ballet evolved. Nevertheless, it is important to note that the Romantic era was the
stepping stone for this pure art form that we have been able to preserve for more than 160 years.
In the early 19th century, during the Industrial Revolution, the Romantic era in ballet came alive
throughout Western Europe. In dance, it is known that the Romantic era came first, not the Classical
era. During this time, pointe shoes, with a barely enforced box, made an appearance, allowing dancers
to briefly be lifted onto pointe, conveying a look of airiness. Also, emphasis was placed on feelings
and emotions rather than reason and intellect, and most story ballets during this time were

Analysis Of The Movie Stranger By Harold Crick
Harold Crick is an IRS auditor who lives an extremely predictable lifestyle dictated by routine and
numbers. In the beginning of the film Stranger than Fiction Harold is depicted as boring, routine, and
shows signs of having Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with his endless counting of everything he
sees. He lives his life to the minimum as he has no wife, social life, no real friends, and in fact, his
wristwatch seems to be his only friend as he depends on timing everything down to the second, to save
time. Harold continues to live every day just like the last, simply slaving through the rest of the
workweek, until he hears a mysterious voice, an omniscient voice, narrating his every move day in
and out. Karen Eiffel Kay is an esteemed novelist known for writing amazing tragedies. She has been
working on her latest work but is suffering from writer s block, and can t figure out how exactly she
wants to kill her main character, Harold Crick. During her narrations she announces Harold s sudden
imminent death , and he hears this with an overwhelming fear of what this means for him. The sudden
imminent death creates an issue of time sensitivity for Harold, and is a huge part of Stranger than
Fiction s theme. Harold was completely content with his mundane life full of routine based tasks all
programmed by his wristwatch. The issue of when he will die is a huge motivator for both Harold and
Karen as she needs to find that perfect ending for her book. The plots are difficult

Venus Lamenting The Death Of Adonis
Venus Lamenting the Death of Adonis (Benjamin West, 19768) the oil painting is one of the paintings
that I did feel drawn to at Carnegie Museum. In this painting you see a woman who is Venus, and a
young Cupid sitting with sad expressions on their faces, it appears they are mourning over the death of
the man, Adonis. This painting is done during the neo classicism times in the early 19th Century.
Benjamin West captured a legendary topic during those times. Legend has is it Venus was scratched by
Cupid s arrow and fall madly in love with Adonis. They would hunt together all the time and Venus
constantly reminded to be careful the vicious animals he was hunting since Adonis was only a human.
One day while off hunting alone Adonis s dog

Compassion Case Study Essay
I have to say, I honestly struggled this week when brainstorming who to use for a case study. As I
thought long and hard, over a couple days, I was still at a loss. That is until I was at work and it finally
struck me; my senses and perception are vital to my job. Our senses and perceptions are a part of
everyday life that, at times, we take for granted. It isn t until we lose or are limited in the functionality
of one or more of our sense that we realize how important and vital they are.
As a medical assistant at the University Of Vermont Medical Center, one of our main focuses in
patient care is that of Compassion. Compassion is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another

something joyful about it ((Seckel, 2004, Feb.). I frequently receive comments regarding the kind and

  • 2. The 400 Blows Analysis The 400 Blows is a French New Wave film made in 1959, directed by François Truffaut as his debut feature film. The film focuses on the trials and tribulations of a young adolescent named Antoine Doinel played by Jean Pierre Léaud, who is growing up in Paris during the early 1950s. While trying to find freedom from the craziness of life, Antoine is faced with overcoming loneliness and the harsh consequences on his unexplained actions. Inspired by Truffaut s personal life, the director expresses pivotal moments of his own childhood through a rendition of Antoine. Truffaut s directorial premiere owes the success of his first feature film to the outstanding performances, beautiful cinematography, and chaotic production design. Truffaut s unstable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see from clever fades Jump cuts, match cuts and various long takes. Truffaut does this in an effort to move forward his vision of the auteur theory. The opening sequence uses a series of high angle shots to assist in establishing a feeling of childhood innocence and indeed, the child in this film, Antoine Dionel (Jeanne Pierre Leaud), starts out innocent. The camera focuses of the city buildings and the sky above. As shown from a ground point of view, the buildings are larger than life and intimidating. This is how most children view the world, as being large and intimidating. Take, for example, the scenario of dropping a child off for his/her first day of school. Most of them are devastated because they have to deal with a world that is larger than the one they know, and that is intimidating. The sky is vast and innocent, symbolizing a child s mind. Children have incredible imaginations and are also innocent by nature. There is a definite correlation here between the angle selected and the sense of childhood innocence. However, this particular camera angle does not always hold the same meaning in every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Temperature Change Lab Report | Chemistry Lab Report | Constructing Heating/Cooling Curve | | Salman Ishaq 12 E | 1/27/2013 | | BACKGROUND As energy flows from a liquid, its temperature drops. The entropy, or random ordering of its particles, also decreases until a specific ordering of the particles results in a phase change to a solid. If energy is being released or absorbed by a substance remaining at the same temperature, this is evidence that a dramatic change in entropy, such as a phase change, is occurring. Because all of the particles of a pure substance are identical, they all freeze at the same temperature, and the temperature will not change until the phase change is complete. If a substance is impure, the impurities will not lose energy in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 8. Set up the container for the hot water bath. Attach two ring clamps, one above the other, to the second ring stand beneath the test tube assembly. Place a wire gauze with ceramic center on the lower ring. Set a third 600 mL beaker, which should be empty, on the gauze and raise the beaker toward the test tube assembly until it surrounds nearly one half of the tube s length. The beaker will pass through the ring clamp without gauze, and the test tube should not touch the bottom or sides of the beaker. The top clamp keeps the beaker from tipping when the beaker is filled with the hot water. PART 2 MELTING A SOLID: QUICK TEST 9. Check the temperature of the water for the hot water bath. When it is 85°C, turn off the burner or hot plate. If the temperature is already greater than 85°C, shut off the burner or hot plate, and add a few pieces of ice to bring the temperature down to 85°C. Then, using beaker tongs remove the beaker of hot water from the burner. Using tongs or hot mitts carefully pour the water into the empty beaker until the water level is well above the level of the solid inside the test tube. Set the empty beaker on the counter. You will use it again in step 20. 10. Begin timing. The second the water is poured, one member of the lab group should begin timing, while the other reads the initial temperatures of the bath with one thermometer and sample with the other thermometer. ... • 4. The Impact Of Colonization On The Indigenous People Of... In regions of colonization, a significant issue that emerges in the native community is a disruption of identity resulting from an influx of colonial European ideals. As a result of colonization, the native identity is subjected to threats of marginalization by the invasion and domination of European cultural practices and language. The detrimental impact of colonization on the indigenous people of Rhodesia in Nervous Conditions is illustrated by the dominance of the British Empires colonial European identity, which is perpetuated by the conception that Englishness will civilize the population. In Tsitsi Dangarembga s Nervous Conditions, the natives of Rhodesia, Tambu and Nyasha, illustrate a hybrid identity crisis as a result of imperial oppression over the language and educational system of the nation. The role of English language and culture, imposed by colonial education, emphasizes the movement for natives to abandon their indigenous cultural and linguistic roots. The mental colonization of the colonized by the means of English language, education, and European cultural values results in a state of displacement, alienation, and identity confusion in the individual. In the novel, Dangarembga depicts the victimization of the Shona language through the educated characters eagerness to adopt and imitate the practices of the English. The imposition of a new language on the native community is used as a medium through which the hierarchal structure of power is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Summary Of Bound By Kehinde Wiley The most influential artist to me in this exemplary in this pursuit for the appropriated traditions is Kehinde Wiley. In his opening speech for the New Republic gallery show he expressed that things such as his work was evolved around the working of chance . In his case, he manipulates the chance of the representation of the black demographic in traditional work. Modifying the figurative works to create the chance for relating a body that is familiar. I see contemporary painter, Kehinde Wiley as a comparable to my work in regards to the topic as well as the manipulation of the human figure. The admirable features I see in Kehinde Wiley s work in addition to these is the fantasy elements that are incorporated. These features are best exhibited in his piece, Bound . The work is a bronze sculpture that stands approximately four feet tall and two and half feet wide. The composition is inviting as it includes busts of three identical women that have African descent features that are placed on a rounded triangle base. The expressions on all of the faces are of a staring and wondering nature that have a nature of regality as their faces are turned to the right at an approximate forty five degree angle as their all have their back facing each other to form a guard of the leaves the a laid on their base. The bodies are cut organically as it rounds off from shoulder to shoulder, just enough to form the upper torso to see the corset like dress that encompass the figure. Expanding ... • 6. Child Poverty in New Zealand Child poverty is a major and complex issue that New Zealand faces today. The degree is far more severe than the public s perception and it is a problem that we cannot afford to ignore. A combination of factors contributes to child poverty, from individual causes at the micro level to the macro collective government involvement. This occurs partly due to social construction and it is potentially avoidable. The consequences can impact on both individual and to a great extent affect significantly on the country as a whole. If the issue is not resolved, the inequality will continue, if not worsen and becomes an ongoing intergeneration cycle. Socio economic factors are widely acknowledged as important determinants of poverty. If an individual experiences adverse living conditions in childhood, majority of them will have inadequate income and result in low socio economic status as adults (Carroll et al, 2011). Children born in poor households have difficulty in accessing the basic needs (e.g. food, clothing, and good living environment) and this can affect their learning ability at school, unable to focus. In other words, they have a higher chance of dropping out of school or lower education attainment, unable to provide appropriate qualifications when they move onto adulthood, seeking for job opportunities. These children are finding day to day life tough, they are living in cold, damp houses, do not have warm or rain proof clothing, their shoes are worn, and many days they go hungry (Children s Commissioner, 2012). Often this has taken place over a long period of time, impacting on their development, behaviour and physical health furthermore limiting their potential as they grow into adults. Unemployment or underemployment can cause significant household stressors; parent may feel incompetent to meet the basic needs for their children, unable to make ends with financial problems. Consequently, individual seek alcohol and drug as a way to escape their problems. This could lead to child abuse; children who suffer from this can develop emotional, ... Franklin wrote a book on his studies on electricity in 1751, this copy went through three different languages including english. One of his experiments on electricity was trying to identify the difference between thunderbolts and electricity. Ben flew a kite in a dangerous thunderstorm in france on June tenth, 1752. With the help of his son, William, they hooked up his kite to a silk string, tying an metal key to where the bolt would strike it. Ben s educated guess was that the lightning itself was an electrical phenomenon, and the electrical effect of the lightning bolt striking it might be able to transfer to another object. Also the causes and effects in the experiment could be recognized as electricity. Concluding this experiment, it successfully showed that the energy from the bolt was static energy. Due to their inexperience in the electorate teens may also be easily swayed and have their opinions changed. This would just enlarge the number of swing voters. A swing voter is a voter who has no allegiance to any political party and whose unpredictable decisions can swing the outcome of an election one way or the other. • 14. Social Cognitive Theory And Social Involvement Theory Involvement Theory The involvement theory discusses the amount and level of energy, time, and participation spent engaged in a particular activity (Lee, Lee Yoo, 2004). Witmer and Singer (1998) defined involvement as a psychological state experienced as a consequence of focusing one s energy and attention on a coherent set of stimuli or meaningfully related activities and events (p. 226). The involvement theory has been used in various disciplines including student involvement, product involvement, and customer involvement. Rocha Flores et al. (2014) posited that the lack of security awareness or knowledge among users is an indicator of a low level of information security involvement. According to Safa et al. (2016) information security knowledge sharing, collaboration, and experience represents the level of effort, participation and time that users engage in security activities, hence they represent levels of involvement. Therefore this study will incorporate knowledge sharing, collaboration, and experience as a measure of involvement to determine their impact on users technology threat avoidance motivation and further avoidance behavior. Social Cognitive Theory The social cognitive theory (SCT), formerly known as the social learning theory (Bandura, 1986) is widely used in the understanding of learning processes. SCT originated from the areas of psychology and communication and has been used in understanding computer behavior (Shillair et al., 2015; Cho, Lee, Chung, 2010; Compeau Higgins, 1995; Workman, Bommer, Straub, 2008; Yi Im, 2004). SCT postulates that human behavior is a dynamic relationship where cognitive factors and environmental influences interact with behavior factors (Bandura, 1986, 1991, 1997). SCT assists in building confidence and self efficacy, as users learn through observation or vicarious experiences (Anderson Agarwal, 2010; Bandura, 1991). This learning experience is influence by the environmental factor, social norm. Prior computer security related studies examine social influence as a predictor of user behavior (Culnan Williams, 2009; Hu, Dinev, Hart, Cooke, 2012; Lowry Moody, 2015; Posey et al., 2013 ; Vance et al., 2013). • 15. The Event Of The Olympic Games The Olympic games have become a worldwide event that is watched by millions of people who are either physically sitting in the stands, or sitting at home on their couches. These games bring people from countries all around the world together where they can forget about their problems for a couple of days every two years. Over time, the games have been being banned, have overcome gender discrimination, and had conflicts with many major historical events. The first ancient Olympic games were held in Olympia, Greece in 776 BC. The Greek people worshipped the gods, and the idea of these games came from the need to have something to dedicate to them. The Greeks used the city of Olympia as a place for worship, and as a meeting place for religious and political practices. At first, the games were only played for one day, but in 684 BC they were extended to three days, then during the 5th century BC, the games were changed to last five days. Status was not a factor when it came to who could participate in the games; any free male citizen was allowed to participate. Women, however, were forbidden to participate in, or be a spectator at, the games if they were married, but women who were unmarried were allowed to be spectators. The ancient Olympics only consisted of seven events: long jump, discus throw, running, shot put, boxing, horse and chariot races, and pankration (a mixture of boxing and wrestling in a type of martial arts) (Ancient Olympic Games). • 16. Women Should Be Legal For Combat Women should be allowed to serve in combat roles in the military Some argue that women should not serve in combat because; they have never served in any type of combat operations in the history of the American military. Positions in the military have been designed specifically for women and how they perform their duties. No evidence can be produced that women have the abilities, physical strength, or motivation to engage in combat operations, the physical differences from their male counterparts are so extreme; women cannot maintain the agility or psychological confidence that men are capable of displaying during extreme combat stress. However, this thinking misses the point. History has shown as far back as the Revolutionary War, women such as Molly Pitcher, who took up her husband s position as an artillery gunner, after he was injured in combat. More recently during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have had many women put into stressful combat situations, with very little training, and were able to engage the enemy effectively, and in some cases displayed courageous actions that saved lives. They were able to physically and mentally handle the combat stress equally with their male counterparts. Several women have also recently been allowed to attend advanced combat training, such as the U.S. Army Ranger School. • 17. Social Work As A Social Worker There are many helping professions. Society has doctors, therapist, teachers, nurses, etc. To help means to assist, which means to serve. Every business has the infrastructure to serve a need presented for whatever motives lay behind the person s reasoning. What makes social work idiosyncratic unlike the rest is the willingness and passion to promote human well being. I yearn and hunger to see growth of what is already innate. That is the reason psychology became my undeclared major. My ignorance of the social work role did create misconceptions and fears. I knew I had to be in some helping profession. I was not sure if I would do so through occupational therapy, psychology, teaching, or social work. I wanted to be a social worker, but I was afraid of the danger associated with it by giving way to stereotypes. No one wants to be shot or harassed due to taking someone s child from a terrible environment. This is what I defined social work as. I was a psychology major with a niche for social and child developmental psychology. I as three years into the Bachelor of Science Psychology program and I began to develop a distaste for psychology methodology. The field appeared to be competitive and only research or clinical driven, which I believed confine the goals I set for myself. I was tired of rehearing the same old man psychological theories that had a narrow scope. The competition was not intimidating, but it was unnecessary and defeating to turn out rates of ... Right after we see he is writing this down in a letter to his sister. Frankenstein follows Frankenstein s story in order, only to go back to catch up on what his monster did. The writing style is shown many times in the story including this quote, ... and I myself was about to sink under the accumulation of distress when I saw your vessel riding at anchor... (Shelly 184). In this quote, we read when Frankenstein sees Walton s ship during his chase of his monster. In the beginning of the book Frankenstein starts back from his birth and progresses to tell his life story. Chapter I starts with, I am by birth a Genevese; and my family is one of the most distinguished of that republic. (Shelly 27). Mary Shelly s Frankenstein is an example of narrative writing because the book is a story and follows the sequence of events in Frankenstein s life. • 19. Detroit Riots Essay The Detroit riots occurred in the summer of 1967. The riot initially started because of race when poor African Americans got kicked out of their houses. They started living on 12th street in Detroit. The riot started there because African Americans were fed up with the way that they were being treated. Many years prior to the riot there were already racial issues. The government made it hard for African Americans to buy houses in the 1950s. During that time, white people were resisting African Americans from moving into Detroit. They were gathering outside of houses owned by African Americans until they would leave. According to Stanford, I was blissfully unaware of the pervasive racism and resentment that was simmering in my city (28). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Riots were happening for the same issues in Cleveland, Chicago, Omaha, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Since all these riots were occurring far away from Detroit many Detroiters thought that their city would spare the riots. Sadly, they were wrong. In July 23, 1967, the Detroit Police department busted a bar with a prominent number of African Americans. They arrested every person in the bar. More and more people started to gather on 12th street to watch the proceedings. That is when the rioting started. The crowd began to get more violent as more people joined. During the riot, the first fire started at a shoe store on 12th. Officers were starting to line up with shields standing next to each other to block the rioting from spreading any further. There were authorities having a meeting to try and stop the riot. They were trying to make peace patrols but the police officers were blocking them from entering the area of the riot. The police officers were still trying to take control of the situation but their officers were being injured and the rioters started to outnumber them by a lot. • 23. Examples Of Irony In Good Country People What is a Good Country Person? Who makes the decision in whether a person is good or not. Is there such thing as good person? When a person thinks that they are always good, it probably means that they are are lying because no one person is perfect. Although there is no such thing as a perfect person, often times people are sometimes perceived to be perfect or better than they really are. Perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. In her article on the morality of perception, Gayman acknowledges, Unlike mere recognition, perception requires the work of the intelligence and demands careful observation and engaged attention (1). Being able to perceive the character of a person is necessary if a person wants to fully trust another person. In Good Country People by Flannery O Connor, irony, symbolism, and characterization are used to prove that one s perception of something or someone is not always reliable. Irony is the expression of one s meaning by using language that usually means the opposite. Typically in literature, irony is used in emphatic sense. There is a multitude of irony in Good Country People. The character s names of this story are incredibly ironic. Joy Hulga is ironic because she is the furthest from being joyful. Introduction Though the new system has received much praise, a problem arises when communication between two or more EHR systems becomes poor and ineffective. Currently, some companies have ventured into developing commercial EHR systems following the product s growing market. This concept is the reason behind the success of World Wide Web as websites are easily accessible to all computers, mobile phones, regardless of the browser of operating system one is using. Currently, there is little to no standardization that is identified when it comes to dealing with medical information (Greenway, Epic achieve EHR interoperability, 2013) A possible reason is that EHR systems are owned and developed through privatized means. Such an evolution contrasts with the internet whereby the government and educational institutions are credited for having developed the idea. Undoubtedly, there is a dire need of wanting to connect or link different computer systems. It is unfortunate that EHRS are based on a policy of keeping information or data private thus disallowing any attempts for it to be shared. As of now, the only way to share data is through forcing developers who at the moment are looking to create their own technique of doing so (Notto Skolnik, 2014). In similar fashion, Otto (2014) emphasizes on the need to have a standardized system that is not bound by the hardware, software or even operation system that one is using. Electrical Engineering And The Field Of Engineering Electrical Engineering is a well respected and growing field of engineering that centers on the practical application of electricity, electromagnetism and electronics. The field is of considerable necessity to modern life and infrastructure, having applications in many diverse branches of modern life. Some of these include telecommunications, energy and power distribution, transportation, manufacturing and consumer electronics. In this report we will go over the education and coursework requirements, fields of the industry, the work environment, salary, tools of the trade, and professional organizations of electrical engineers. According to Frederick Terman; Electrical Engineering as a discipline first appeared in the United States during the early 1880 s as classes in physics and energy flows intended to prepare students to enter the new and fast growing electrical manufacture industry. As the industry grew, EE education followed. Within ten years the discipline made a place for itself along the more classical engineering departments. An example of the industry s adaptability to change would be the industry before and after the First World War. Before WWI, work in the industry was concentrated primarily on the distribution of power, building electric infrastructure using the properties of AC and DC circuits. • 31. The Influence Of The Pointe Shoes In The Romantic Era Whether we look at a romantic ballet like La Sylphide or a classical ballet such as Sleeping Beauty, audiences are constantly mesmerized by the gracefulness and weightlessness of the ballet dancers. They seem to defy the laws of physics, which is greatly possible due to the use of the pointe shoe. However, many masterworks that were created in the Romantic era did not solely rely on the pointe shoe to help convey messages. Instead, the choreography, dancers, scenic elements, subject matter, and music all helped shaped masterworks such as La Sylphide, Napoli, and Giselle. Similarly, in the Classical era, these elements all played a role in shaping famous ballets like La Bayadere, Sleeping Beauty, and Swan Lake. But once we take a closer look at these ballets from the Classical era, we can see how much ballet evolved. Nevertheless, it is important to note that the Romantic era was the stepping stone for this pure art form that we have been able to preserve for more than 160 years. In the early 19th century, during the Industrial Revolution, the Romantic era in ballet came alive throughout Western Europe. In dance, it is known that the Romantic era came first, not the Classical era. During this time, pointe shoes, with a barely enforced box, made an appearance, allowing dancers to briefly be lifted onto pointe, conveying a look of airiness.
