Essay about The Aspects of Multiculturalism in Canada
A country built on immigration, Canada has long had a reputation of being culturally and ethnically
diverse. While multiculturalism is meant to be built on equality and appreciation of different
cultures, its concept has gained both support and opposition. On one hand, it allows for more
assortment and the voices of minorities have a higher chance to be heard. On the other hand, loss of
unity and conflicts may occur due to contrasting worldviews of the citizens. All in all,
multiculturalismis a controversial policy that has both advantages and disadvantages, but has
proven to be a successful strategy in Canada.
Multiculturalism has many positive effects, including but not limited to freedom of religion and
beliefs, increased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Negative aspects of multiculturalism are also in effect, such as incoherence within a nation, loss of
national identity, and conflicts among different ethnic groups. First of all, while differences are
highlighted and encouraged, they are also a cause of disjointedness among the different ethnic
groups in a country because they fail to function as one nation, instead forming small communities.
This often causes a lack of communication between such ethnic groups and leads to a loss of unity
in a country. Furthermore, immigration and pluralism often lead to a diminishment or complete
disappearance of national identity in a multicultural country. An example of this is Canada because
it was created on the basis of immigration without having its own distinct culture from the
beginning, but choosing to include different cultures instead to become what is known today as a
multicultural society. While generally it is seen in a positive light, it often raises concern that the
country s identity may disappear altogether in the future. Finally, intense pluralism is oftentimes a
reason for riots and conflicts, indirectly related to immigrants or ethnicity. For example, in France
tension among ethnic groups and riots have happened in the past because of the conditions of the
communities where the original immigrants settled in, combining high unemployment rates and
discrimination. ( France Riots ) Sweden

Comparison Of Sleepy Hollow And Ichabod Crane
The style of Washington Irving s story varies from enchanted and mysterious, to downright jovial.
His rich language describes Sleepy Hollow and Ichabod Crane s time spent there with lavish detail
of the scenery and even the food.Ironically, the end and explanation of the Headless Horseman is
different in the two sources. In the story, with Crane hungry for the supernatural, Irving implies
with his ending that Brom Bones was the Horseman and that what happened could have a reality
based explanation. In the movie, where Johnny Depp s Ichabod Craneadamantly rejects any
supernatural ideas, Tim Burton creates an entire back story of witchcraft to explain the Headless
Hessian. In one similarity, both contrasted their main character s belief with

Ancient Cosmology And The Natural Laws Of The Universe
It has been embedded in Chinese psyche that nature is a powerful force which nurtures life and
human beings but could also be unpredictable, uncontrollable and terribly devastating. Always
bearing in mind the incredible power of nature, early Chinese noticed the perpetual transformation
and interchange between all elements in the universe in order to inhibit, to support, to impact and
to impulse each other s development and expansion. Therefore, it is a common belief among most
Chinese that harmony is the essence of life and all living beings coordinate under the natural laws
of the universe. This ancient cosmology leads us to the concept of yin and yang, a famous Chinese
philosophyexplaining the balance of all elements in the universe.... Show more content on

Yin yang, in its simplest concept, is derived from peasant s daily life and was only meant to explain
natural phenomena: the rise and set of the sun, an essential force controlling Chinese s farming,
trading and production. The yang symbol implies the sunlight during the day when peasants start
their day at the fields while yin illustrates a lack of sunlight at night when farmers return home to
rest. This sun based daily pattern leads to further implication which associates yang with movement
and activity (dong) and yin, on the other hand, with rest and passivity (jing). There is not much
historical evidence suggesting other possible original meanings of yin and yang. However, no
matter how and when the primitive concept of yin yang was formed, it has become profoundly
influential in Chinese and other East Asian culture.
At the beginning, yin and yang existed as two independent and unconnected concepts. Later then,
we can see these two characters be written together for the first time in a verse from Shijing
(Book of Songs), one of Zhou Dynasty s famous classic: Viewing the scenery at a hill, looking for
yinyang . Yin and yang in this implication are interpreted as the shady and sunny sides of a hill, but
meanwhile emphasizes the general impact of the sun on that hill. Nowadays, yin and yang can be
used to represent many contrasting yet coordinating aspects of different objects. Yang can be
masculine,

Literary Works From Ancient Egypt
The Eloquent Peasant is one of the oldest literary works from Ancient Egypt. It is used, as well as
many other works, to help look into the past and understand how people interacted during this time.
The piece itself is a creation that aids scholars in the understanding of judiciary law and social
justice that was occurring in Egyptat the time. While this is true it also helps modern scholars
understand writing styles from this time and assisting in identification of the literary themes in
future works. The scholarly understanding of this work can contribute to the understanding of its
meaning. Thus use of this work could be considered a political ideology as well as a push for
social justice in the time period. Not only was this found useful in twelfth dynasty Egypt, but
today it is a look into the historical past of the Egyptian judicial system. The eloquent peasant is
one of the few surviving literary compositions which have survived from Middle Kingdom Egypt.
It is the story of a peasant, Khun anup, and his donkey going into the lands of the noble Rensi. As
the peasant was tricked by Nemtynakht, the overseer of the noble s land, to walk through the crops
on the land. The donkey then ate the grains that were there on the land. The overseer then took
custody of the donkey and started to beat the peasant, as Nemtynakht knew the Rensi would believe
him over the peasant. As the peasant knew that there was wrong doing he went in search of Rensi,

Physical Chemical Lab Report
Introduction
What is matter? Matter is the substance of which any physical object is composed of. Matter takes
up space and has mass. Matter can actually undergo lots of changes either chemically or physically.
During chemical changes, matter s chemical composition changes. Bonds between atoms are
broken and created to form new molecules! For an example, a rusting iron nail. When a iron nail is
exposed to oxygen it transforms into rust, this ability to react is the chemical property/change.
During physical changes, matter s composition does not change. Something in the matter might
seem or look different, but the atoms are still link up the same. ... Show more content on

Procedure The procedure for this lab includes many simple steps and a few different things we
are testing. Our first Procedure was to combine water and salt to see what kind of reaction it
would make. First we fill the graduated cylinder with 100 ml of water. We then measured 1.0
grams of table salt on a balance to get an accurate amount. After, we took the measured amount of
salt and poured it into the water filled beaker. Lastly, we watched and recorded the reaction.
For our second procedure our first step was to gather materials of a 2 cm long magnesium strip, a
bunsen burner, and crucible tongs. After we gathered materials we turned the gas to the bunsen
burner on, carefully lit the burner with our striker, and adjusted the flame. We then used the
crucible tongs to pick up the magnesium strip and place it in the flame, keeping it a safe distance
away. Lastly, we recorded and watched our reaction.
The third procedure we did, our first step was to gather materials of a spot plate, and 2 pipettes one

Historical Heritage And Regional Identity
When does the symbol of someone s historical heritage and regional identity become unacceptable
due to the same symbol being found offensive and representative of the oppressed heritage of
someone else? Recently at the University of Mississippi the topic as to continue flying the state

buildings on campus; the chancellor ultimately decided that the Associated Student Body was right
in this decision. The appropriateness of the Confederate flag has become a major point of dispute in
this country. In the state of Mississippi, however, the argument is complicated by the fact that the

These people believe it s preventing businesses and athletes from coming to our state, and that it

removed from the state flag for many years before it became a hot topic at the University of

evil that was the southern states before and during the Civil War (International Business Times).
Mississippi is one of the last states, which were a part of the Confederate States of America; to

University of Mississippi is the fourth college in the state to stop flying the state flag on campus

The Nutritional Code Of Food Label
Food Label
There are many things that are confusing and overwhelming when it comes to making nutritious
choices. One product will have a high content of something good and another will have low content
in something bad. When it is time to consider what we put in our bodies we have ample opportunity
to weight the pros and cons of various products. According to the Nielsen Global Survey in 2011
sixty percent of the population doesn t not understand the mandatory nutritional code in order to
properly identify the ingredients they are considering ingesting. Alarmingly, this statistic is that the
nutrition label and the ingredients list are the only true allies a consumer has when determining
what we should be eating. Only they tell the full story of what the food we are consuming is
comprised of. For this assignment I was asked to first select two pairs of similar food products
from the supermarket and then secondly compare them, while critically evaluating both their
food labels and ingredients. I chose to compare coconut milk against 2% dairy milk and rolled
oats versus steel cut oats. I am going to address the following comparisons in the body of my
essay: the nutrition facts table, serving sizes, price, ingredients, product claims, percentage of
daily value (%DV), whether they are part of a healthy eating plan, and lastly whether their
labeling is clear and concise. On the war against obesity and disease caused by diet, food labels

In spring 2010, New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., a successful joint venture between Toyota
Motor Co. and General Motors Co, shut down its plant in Fremont, California. Over two decades
NUMMI was a model manufacturing plant with high quality and productivity, exceptional worker s
satisfaction and attendance. What did NUMMI do to change the former GM s dysfunctional
disaster into best plant?

NUMMI was created as a team based organization with sense of interdependence and unity. There
were just three level management levels; in contrast, old GM s plant had a six levels hierarchy. A
team leader, who was responsible not only for coordinating teamwork and trainings of team
members, but also was able to replace a team member on line if needed, represented the first level
of management. The second level management in addition was responsible for budgeting and
planning. Moreover, these managers were expected to resolve the problems at the lowest possible
level.
In order to foster fair and efficient environment NUMMI designed a new job structure;
specifically, job classifications were reduced from 81 to 3 with the same wage rate. Developed
reward system also tended to equalize rewards among employees. For instance, a team leader
received only a 50 cent hourly premium and each team was awarded with a small social budget.
Continual training system and information sharing among all team members let the company to
support its goals. Implementing the stop the line system allowed management to empower its
employees by pushing down responsibility for the production and quality at the lowest possible
level, to a worker. Meanwhile, the policy of mutual trust or no layoff policy established a real trust
between the company and employees by ensuring its workers to

Persuasive Essay On The Great Bear Rainforest
Is your ideal vacation to a place where it s easy to forget skyscrapers exist? Or where crowded
theme parks and restaurant chains are non existent? Or where wildlife outnumbers people? If
answered yes to any of these then the Great Bear Rainforest would be a vacation dream come true.
From fishing to sightseeing to kayaking to hiking to eating local cuisine, this destination offers it all
for those seeking remote destinations.
The Great Bear Rainforest is located in British Columbia, Canada. It is remote yet easy to access
by car, plane, or ferry from Vancouver. It is a 12 14 hour drive or a 75 minute flight from
Vancouver to Bella Coola. By ferry the travel time depends on the ports and the stops made in
the process. Bella Coola is the main tourism hub for lodging and dining in the Great Bear
Rainforest. Also located in Bella Coola is the main visitor center , where visitors can learn more
about what the forest has to offer, the First Nations that inhabit it, and book activities to partake in.
One option is to participate in learning about one of the aboriginal tribes culture, art, and
lifestyle______ But before it was a remote tourist destination, it was threatened by logging
companies hoping to make countless profits off of the 1,000 year old trees.
The Great Bear Rainforest is a thriving twenty one million acre forest. This ecosystem is the largest
temperate rainforest and represents a quarter of all coastal temperate rainforests worldwide.(CITE)

Richard Wagner s Work As A Conductor
Richard Wagner Biography Richard Wagner was born May 22, 1813 in Leipzig, Germany.
Richard Wagner was many things, including a composer, theatre director, polemicist, and a
conductor. Wagner was born as one of nine children of his father Carl Friedrich Wagner. Carl
was a clerk in the police service and died 6 months after Wagner was born. His step father was an
actor and a playwright who had a big influence on Wagner and his style of music. After his step
father died, he was sent to boarding school where he spent some time as a playwright who was
influenced by Shakespeare and Goethe. Later Wagner enrolled in Leipzig University. Wagner
moved to Magdeburg where he worked as a musical director in an operahouse. Following this he
moved to Riga and fled debts he owed. After bouncing around he finally moved to Paris in 1839.
Then moving back to Germany in 1942 where he wrote new operas and worked as a conductor,
but also did work as a revolutionary which was the reason for him having to leave Germany.
Wagner settled in Zurich, Switzerland. For the first five years of his stay in Switzerland he
focused on writing essays, after that he focused on writing new pieces of art that he called dramas.
Wagner then moved to Venice continuing his trend of moving around. Wagner later moved back to

The Influence Of The Modern Period In British And Irish...
The modernist period in British and Irish literature was one of the most important and exciting
times in literary history. The term modernist stemmed from the beginning of the 20th century
labelled the modern period. The modern period was a time of confusion and transitions, mostly
due to the result of people returning from World War I. The modern period was an era of massive
unemployment and technological changes. Freud, Jung, and Marx were redefining human identity,
Assembly lines and factories were being introduced, and gender differences were starting to
crumble. The modern period was a time of change, and the field of Literature was no exception.

Poetry, Drama, and fiction were subjected to intensive scrutiny and extensive redefinition,
producing some of the most unusual and often difficult literary creations in English: Eliot s
Wasteland, Yeat s Plays for Dancers, and the fiction of Joyce and Lawrence is some examples.
Modernist literature reflects in it s structure as well as in it s content the overturning of tradition;
the instances upon new design produced plays and stories without plots or recognizably human
characters, poems without rhyme or meter (16, 17). The Modernist author was able to identify
with their audience by creating stories that not only asked important questions, but also got under
the reader s skin. In George Orwell s essay titled Inside the Whale, he addresses the fact that James
Joyce s Ulysses is remarkable due to the fact of its commonplaceness of its material. (Inside The
Whale and Other Essays, 11). The reader is able to put themselves in the characters shoes, the
characters are very three dimensional, and like modern life their stories are not so much like a
fairy tales, as they are of everyday life. The character Joyce creates in Ulysses enters many
different states of consciousness, dream states, drunkenness.... demonstrating the ability modern
literature has in relating the ideas of consciousness, in a way that the reader would be able to
identify with. Orwell goes further to say that Ulysses was filled with a Whole

My Experience At Eastern Connecticut State University
In my time at Eastern Connecticut State University, I learned a lot about myself and what I
have been doing as a student. In that time, I learned not only about myself, my academic
strength s and even learned to think critically and ask questions. Eastern has taught me to be
myself and this campus puts more emphasis on individuality over group thinking. I learned a lot
in applying my critical thinking skills to my history classes and learned a lot in how to look at
History in everyday context. What my experience at Eastern as taught me that, I never gave up
and I always persevere in many difficult challenges this campus has tossed at me. I always came
out on top and learned to deal with challenges that I will face later in Graduate school and in life.
In my History Research paper, I learned a lot in how to work a history presentation. It taught me

to overcome those challenges. I was challenged in many ways such as finding primary and
secondary sources. I was often times challenged in how I write a paper and many times it took

Symbolism In The Catcher In The Rye
Although representation of the LGBT+ community is becoming more common in books,
especially those targeted towards teenagers, it is still lacking in the majority of literature. This
has caused members and supporters of the community to look for representation in places where
most people would say there isn t any. For example, to most people, The Catcher in the Rye by
JD Salinger is either about a pretentious teenager who complains about nothing or a depressed
teenager coping with a disillusioning loss of innocence. The first analysis can be backed by
reading the book at the surface level, the second by a more in depth understanding of symbolism
used throughout. However, there is a third narrative that eludes many people. Holden Caulfield is
attracted to men, but having experienced sexual abuseand living in a homophobic time, represses his
sexuality.
Holden calls various men handsome throughout the novel, indicating his attraction to them. When
he s describing his roommate, Stradlater, he says, I knew a lot of guys at Pencey I thought were a
lot handsomer than Stradlater (32). His use of the words I thought means that this is Holden s own
opinion of the guys handsomeness, not an objective fact based on beauty standards. This isn t the
only time he refers to a group of handsome men. When talking to a pianist in a bar bathroom, he
thinks about all these handsome guys (169). All suggests many, or at least more than just Stradlater
and the pianist, so Holden has seen

Contrary to China, in the U.S we are able to protest the government if we don t agree. My father

Influence Of Social Media Marketing Essay
The use of social media marketing has in Bahrain has exploded over the years as a significant
percentage of the demographic users have adopted the mainstream avenues. The latter is inclusive
of Facebook, twitter, Instagram, Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn, and so forth. The term social media
denotes a wide range of communication, sharing, and communication tools that undergo continuous
change and development. On the other hand, Social media marketingrefers to the process of

As Hamlet might seem like one to be thoughtful of his actions, he changes as he suddenly acts

With uncertainty of trusting the ghost, while pretending to be crazy, he organizes a play,
wherein I ll catch the conscious of the king (II.ii.634). Although it might seem like Hamlet
inherits philosophical aspects, it is the fear that is holding him back. He procrastinates the
murder of the king, as he apprehends facing death. This theme is further repeated when he says,
Now might I do it pat. Now he is a praying. / And now I ll do t. And so he goes to heaven. / And
so am I revenged. That would be scanned. / A villain kills my father, and, for that, / I, his sole
son, do this same villain send / To heaven. / Oh, this is hire and salary, not revenge (III.iii.77 84).
Hamlet begins to overthink his objective by postponing the murder. This waiting represents the
fear Hamlet contains. His conscience does not allow him to follow through with the murder.

The Elephant Man By David Lynch
Movies and novels deal with many serious real life issues these days, people with disabilities are
no exception, and this is all fine but it all matters if the issue is accurate and non offensive. Well
despite what many people think, most media representations of disabled people these days are
accurate. There are numerous amount of films and novels that feature disabled people and here are
some reasons why they are accurate.
First and foremost, media representations don t just go from film to novels, they can also be
depicted in forms such as radio dramas and videogames, it can also not just a mental disability, but
also physical.Physical disabilities are shown in such films as The Elephant man and even video
games such as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain The Elephant Man is a 1980 film directed
by David Lynch that depicts the story of Joseph Merrick (It was based on a true story,) a man
who was born with an extremely rare physical disability that completely deformed his face,
making him look almost like an elephant, one of the quotes in the film is I am not an elephant! I
am not an animal! I am a human being! I am a man! This shows that not matter how different you
look or what society thinks of you, at the end of the day, you are just the same as every other
human, doesn t matter how different you look, so the Elephant Man is an extremely accurate film
depiction of the life and death of Joseph Merrick. But that s not saying that there are just physical

The Invention Of An Innocent Device
An innocent device that started out just a decade ago as a simple entertainment gadget, the
camera phone has evolved into one of the most widely used item into the daily lives of all the
people of the world over. It is hard to imagine our daily activities that do not involve the use of
the camera on the back of the cellphone, a far cry from what its inventors had first envisioned it
was going to do. Together with social media, the outgrowth of common people reporting events of
their daily lives has become a major source of news and information with no sign of stopping.
Today it s hardly a secret that all news sources big or small depend on this camera wielding citizen
as a major source of information. Top news outlets rely on these citizens journalists with their
armature pictures and videos in their breaking news section for any events around the world. Like
their saying goes, A picture is worth a thousand words , today these first pictures and videos have
become their bread and butter and news agency compete against each other to be the first one to air
it.
It is inevitable that as camera phone devices become cheaper and wide spread, local people at the
scene of any incident pulling out their phone and take pictures and videos for whatever the reason
is only going to increase. Thus the question of whether it is safe for people taking the pictures put
them at risk and possibly put others at danger that may result in loss of life is of a serious concern.

Gender And Gender Roles In George Eliot s Middlemarch
The term gender refers to our cultural programing as feminine or masculine, which are
categories created by society rather than by nature. Gender roles define the appropriate social
and behavioral norms adopted by men and women in a social setting. Gender roles reinforce the
notion that housework is women s work and mechanical/technical jobs are men s work. George
Eliot, born Mary Ann Evans, is considered one of the most creative writers of her time. At the
height of her career, Eliot was also generally regarded as the greatest living English novelist.
George Eliot s sixth novel, Middlemarch, depicts strong characters and the unconventional gender
roles of men and women and their marriages during the 19th century.
In 19th century England there was a great deal of social change and disorder. During this time
period, societal norms were being questioned as many people began calling for equality. In turn,
women s rights become a major issue in England. Before this call for gender equality, women had
been expected to marry men of equal social standing. Men were considered the heads of the
household providing for their families while women were expected to fulfill three main roles:
obeying and satisfying one s husband, keeping one s children physically and morally sound, and
maintaining the household. Author of Gender Politics and Women s Rights, Schor M. Hilary,
wrote during the 19th century, women were expected to center their lives on home and family and

The During The Dutch Golden Age
Portraiture During The Dutch Golden Age
The 17th century was a very successful period for the Dutch Republic, as the golden age started,
trading has increased, exploration was at its peak, and merchants were becoming very wealthy and
powerful. At this time paintings were a form of communication to express power, value, and social
class. During the golden age Dutch artists have specialized and master the genre of still life,
portraiture, scene s of everyday life, and landscape painting. Middle class merchants and wealthy
people were the driving force for the demand of art, because luxury was associated with power (De
Vries). As a result people wanted to express through art their power and wealth in paintings.
Furthermore, paintings also let painters express the current fashion and luxurious lives of people.
Even though everyone interprets a painting in a very different way, portraits from the Dutch golden
age usually emphasized a certain predominant value in its paintings. Portraiture, from the Dutch
golden age, mainly focused on emphasizing, pride, power, prosperity, and idealism in its paintings.
During the 17th century, as the Dutch golden age was thriving the trading and collecting of
artwork has gained interest in people. More middle class citizens were in larger cities for easy
access to merchandise. It was a time where Dutch trade, science, warfare, and art were the most
well known around the world. During the golden age one of the main luxury items was art, more

The Problem Of Unnecessary Blindness
There are specifically some important macro scale problems that should be addressed initially in
order to help Aravind move towards fulfilling the organizational goals. Specifically these issues
are looking at how the organization s operations will be expanded in the future including how
the organization needs to plan to grow so it can reach a broader number of the blind population,
and also if the organization is truly eradicating needless blindness in India as well as providing
the highest quality service it can to both its paying and non paying customers. It is clear that in
order to solve the problem of needless blindness in India the organization must make some move in
order to reach a wider population. There are several options that Aravind has when moving into the
future for how expansion will be facilitated. The first would be for it to continue with operations as
currently set up, but publicize its business model and encourage other organizations to copy it and
work alongside Aravind to eradicate needless blindness. While this is a viable and seemingly the
easiest option, this should not be the only approach that Aravind considers. Aravind has some
existing problems in its operations, management and marketing, and while it has achieved success
in the past, there are some significant existing components that will contribute to greater weakness
within Aravind s business model in the future. It is also uncertain if any other organizations will

Arranged Marriages In The United States
For thousands of years, parents have chosen their children s spouses; hopefully with some success.
Some countries still practice the tradition today. India turn most, if not all, of the wedding decision
over to the Patriarchs of the groom. In other countries only a portion of the country s population
practice it: even though the urban areas are controlled by the government many chinese dwelling
in rural farming areas still practice arranged marriages. In the United States of America people
have moved on to the idea of letting the young adults choose their own marriages, but do children
make the same choices as their parents? It is often the idea that younger adults will make the wrong
choices in marriage; however, marriage in today s world... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though not as important as personality, and not as well seen as appearance education is apart
of who a person is. Its is often seen as learning in school, but education is how a person learns
and what they enjoy learning about. I love to read. It is one of my favorite things to do, and
when given a little free time I go read a book. My mom agreed with that attribute for a perfect
mate for me, and adding that the should like to discuss the books as well. Another trait we
agreed on is having the love of learning. I love to learn and am always trying to learn more
things. A person who is perfect for me would always be trying to learn new things, and be able to
explore things with me. Part of this is not wanting to have the same thing repeat over and over
again. It is important to me to be with someone who is willing to try new things and do something
different than they did yesterday. What a person wants in education is important to me in a perfect
mate.
Music is a large part of my life not because I play a musical instrument, but because those around
me do. I often times have problems with this because they can be a nuisance to me, and because
of this my mom said that a perfect mate for me would not be a person who loves music. She also
decided on someone who is interested in many subjects, and as mentioned before especially

The Net Government Of The United States
Introduction
In the book The Net Government of the United States by Donald F. Kettl is an inspiring and at
times radical look at our government and its day to day attributes to our society. The ways in which
the government operates and the agencies it employs are examined through and through. The
author makes many arguments for their failures and against the system itself. This all leads to an
opinion and analysis of a way to fix the system. The power of the government to make decisions
should be purely of their own right and if the American people vote for these people then they
are the leaders. There is no way to accurately fix our system and the theories and conclusions
drawn up by Kettl are intriguing, but there is room for more calculation. The book presented
multiple terms and theories that I could beacon to. The four that presented me with the biggest
ideological standpoints are: The Mildred Paradox, The Mildred Corollary, The Vending Machine
Model, and The Tectonic Plates. All of these sparked an interest with me and helped me shaped my
own opinion on this book and the ideas presented by it.
The Mildred Paradox In the book Kettl defines the Mildred Paradox as the federal government is
doing a lot of service payment but not service provision. That is purely what the modern American
public would believe. However, when the public wanted something a while ago they pushed and
pushed for it from Congress. The public now has to worry about what to do with these

Throughout the story, some community members realize Miss Strangeworth is a bitter and

Ideo s Innovation Process And The Development Of...
IDEO s innovation process is unique when compared to traditional companies and is constantly
evolving. Brainstorming and prototyping are tools that are central for the development of
innovation. Effective brainstorming, allows the group to stay focused on the topic, generates many
ideas early, defers judgment to avoid interrupting the flow of ideas, builds on the ideas of others,
and can be visual.
Client engagement is key and is accomplished by frequent meetings. Whereas, rapid prototyping
followed the three R s (Rough use hand drawn sketches, speed is more important than making it
pretty, Rapid do not get emotionally attached, and Right work on the right problems and tasks) is
used to quickly communicate ideas. The real aha s in product development occur here. IDEO s
innovation principle sums it up best If a picture is worth a thousand words, a prototype is worth ten
thousand. The entire process resembles a funnel, with several ideas at the top, three or four at the
base, and only one making it all of the way through .
The IDEO project journey consist of the following (Source: Bruce Nussbaum, The Power of
Design , BusinessWeek, 17 May 2004, p. 71.):

annual financial reports. By keeping control of the recipe and the doughnut making process, they
also maintained product standards and reduced, while not completely eliminating, the competition
through the uniqueness of their product. In fact, attempts to change the recipe, or even the look of

returned to the original taste and feel of the original Krispy Kreme.
The company and its doughnut became synonymous with a particular look, taste and feeling. This
emotion that became associated with Krispy Kreme, described as a feel good business and one
that created an experience as opposed to just selling doughnuts (Peter and Donnelly, 2007),
became the core of the company s marketing strategy, and just maybe, one of the prime reasons for
its subsequent struggles in the early 2000 s. Selling a feeling or experience can be a successful

A Child s Development On The Early Childhood Classroom Essay
It is clear that play is an intricate part of a child s development. Nearly every milestone a child
accomplishes between the ages of 6 months to 5 years of age, play is how the interpret what they
see and hear, and incorporate everyday adult activities in to imaginative play, to mold and shape the
characters of their personalities. Like Vygotsky theory, Children are practicing what they have
learned in other settings or are constructing new knowledge, it is clear that playhas a valuable role
in the early childhoodclassroom.

It s Time to Privatize Colombian’s Prisons
The involvement of the private sector in the penal system, prima facie, could be seen as a rapid
and low cost, high benefit solution to the most serious penal system problems such as lack of
prisons spaces, poor condition within the prisons, and the state responsibilities of running prisons
services adequately, by the figure of prisonprivatization. (Cavadino, M. and Dignan, J. 2007)
The figure of contracting out has been well described by Cavadino and Dignan in their analysis of
the prison privatization. This model involves the private sector in the penal system, by giving to it
certain responsibilities, such as, auxiliary services, design and construction of prisons, basic
custodial functions, or a set of above, which is named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, a careful analysis of the fact that the private sector, management of prisons could be seen,
just as a business, where everything is looking for the most part a financial item, so that, may
generated danger of lack accountability and transparency in the delivery of punishment to the
prisoner. Therefore it is very important in this point, the labour of the state as a controller and
overseer, supervising that the contractor fulfils its obligations in an appropriate and transparent
manner.
Second, analysis of competition between public and private sectors in terms of provision of
services in the search for low cost and high benefit as part of the delivery of the sentence, Logan,

it is primarily because they are prisons, not because they are contractual, that private prison face
challenges of authority, legitimacy, procedural justice, accountability, liability, cost, security, safety,
corruptibility, and so on. Because they face no problems that are both unique and insurmountable,
private prisons should be allowed to compete (and cooperate) with government agencies so that we
can discover how best to run prisons that are safe, secure, humane, efficient and just . (Logan, C.
1990)
Under this approach, the competition between the two sectors can be legitimized, and beneficiaries

Political, Legal, And Political System
Like any other country in the world, China has three main formal institutions which are the
political, legal, and economic systems. These formal institutions consist of certain laws,
regulations, and rules. The institutional changes in political systems, legal systems, and market
structures are planned to help Chinese firms as well as foreign firms like Nike to operate in a
more supportive institutional environment (Hitt and Kai 2015). A political system refers to the
rules of the game on how a country is governed politically. China s political system is a
communist totalitarianism. According to the Chinese Constitution, The People s Republic of
China is a socialist state under the people s democratic dictatorship led by the working class and
based on the alliance of workers and peasants. (Georgine 2010). With 85 million dues paying
members, just over 6% of China s population of 1.35 billion, the Communist Party of China
(CPC) is the largest political party in the world (Lawrence 2013). Some of the pressures and
constraints of Nike in China could rise because of the differences in a political system compared
to the United States. But by being aware of the law and regulations Nike can be able to have a
successful business in cChina. The legal system refers to the rules of the game on how a country s
laws are enacted and enforced. The Chinese legal system is a socialist system of law based
primarily on the Civil Law model (Zhang 2016). The civil law was derived from Roman

Carol Bhakos Abraham Of Many Faiths Analysis

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three of the most distinct and well known religions in the
world. They have persisted for generation upon generation and have by far the largest number of
followers of all religions in the world. They also share some interesting similarities in their
foundational stories. Where did these faiths originate, and why do they share many aspects while
differing on still more? Carol Bakhos lays this out very well in The Family of Abraham and
explains her thoughts on the similarities and differences the influential figure of Abraham shares
within these three faiths. Abraham is recognized globally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Here, over the course of two chapters, Bhakos discusses two reservations put into one: we should
not identify Ishmael and Isaac or Sarah and Hagar as separate lineages, with some being worse
than others. What Bakhos is trying to explain is that over time, Judaism and Christianity have
placed distinctions between Isaac/Ishmael and Sarah/Hagar, effectively forming a way of
thinking that places some people over others, while in Islam both sets of people are treated more
or less as equals. That is not the case in Islam, however, where both sons, along with their
mothers live in the abode of Abraham, (Bakhos 153). In Judaism and Christianity, Isaac is the
sole important figure while Ishmael becomes somewhat irrelevant after Hagar is cast out by
Abraham on the orders of Sarah. Both of these religions also portray Hagar as, at first, an
insolent woman who looks down on Sarah because she is the one giving birth to the first son of
Abraham, but they both later come back and give her a much more docile role after being
spoken to by the angel in the wilderness. Other texts from these same religions, however, disagree
with this and even go so far as to say Sarah was never even mad at Hagar, rather, Ishmael was the
one that caused her to throw them out. Regardless, however, these two religions place very clear
distinctions between the four people and effectively make two distinct branches, intimating that
some people in the family line are better than others. I do not agree at all with this belief and I
agree with Bakhos in that it should not be something people put their faith into. While it is true
that all four people have different roles and have varying levels of importance to Judaism,
Christianity, and Islam, I believe that the view of Islam that all these individuals should be regarded

the western states. The BLM has recommended that the maximum population that the land can
sustain is 26,715 (Gorey and Lutterman 1). The BLM must find ways to control the population
because of the crowding. According to Wild HorseEducation Population control is a phrase used
to describe the methods that are utilized by the BLM to achieve what they term as Appropriate
Management Level, or AML ( Population Control 1). Appropriate management level is the amount

uncontrolled, Mother Nature would regulate the population by disease, dehydration, and starvation.
The population of the horses would increase causing food to become scarce and the horses to
starve. Not controlling the population would be inhumane. The horses would suffer from
starvation, causing a slow death. Private ranchers obtain permits for their cattle to graze on BLM

Meta Analysis Sample
Abstract The purpose of this meta analysis was to gather, classify and evaluate information from
previous studies for scientific data to support long held beliefs in relation to recreational reading
and academic performance. The belief that recreational reading results in stronger reading,
vocabulary, writing and spelling abilities has influenced curriculum and lesson plan choices and, in
particular, free readinghomework assignments. Upon evaluation of the data gathered it is
determined that, while there is an upward spiral causation, it varies from age group to age group,
has greater effect depending on the subject s initial reading abilities and has varied effect depending
on the skill being tested. The study concluded that not only is... Show more content on

The article concluded that reading development starts before formal instruction (Mol, 2011, p. 22)
and that print exposure coupled with examples of leisure reading to model after were factors in
literacy success and leisure reading habits of the student (Myers, 2014, p. 261). Also, in order to
narrow the gap between strong readers and struggling readers, more needs to be done to put
leisure reading materials in to the hands of struggling readers. I chose this Journal article because
it is related to both my current profession and my degree program. This article will be very
instrumental in not only providing information but also of revealing potential other sources for
further study on the effects of leisure reading on children. References

College Narrative
It was roughly five fifteen in the morning when the sun began to crest its golden crown over the
awakening Hudson River and the far off New Jersey Palisades. A starless night sky seemed
deliberately transformed with pink, orange, purple and red gauzy stripes, casting a warm wash
over the sleeping earth. I gazed skyward as I stood near the medieval belltower at the Cloisters, and
my eyes reflected the awe inspiring beauty. That dawn was one of many, when I found myself
tramping deliberately up the forested hills of Fort Tryon Park. As I stood at the summit, I inhaled the
sanctity of my surroundings and felt my soul being cleansed by the peaceful soundscape. Gazing at
the vast canvas that was the sky, the predictable chimes of the church bells... Show more content on

hoards of people queuing at the turnstiles. Arriving at World Financial Center, I passed through
security and rode the metallic, grey elevator up to the 32nd floor where my office resided. I
mentally steeled myself for the brutally wearisome hours ahead of me, slaving away on the
computer in a dimly lit, carpeted grey

Throughout time, the authors of the world have experienced different forms of stresses. The type
of stress experienced by the author helps shape their moral perspective. In the essays Shooting an

the great depression. In Graves in Gallipoli and The Little Entente the moral perspective of the

Depression and the Great War shaped authors moral perspectives in different ways.
The main moral idea represented in the essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is how people
do things that they know are wrong but do anyways because that is what is expected of them.
The author, George Orwell, was born in 1903, and the essay was written in 1936. Some major
global events that occured during George s life before he wrote this essay are the Great War and
the Great Depression. During this time men had been forced to kill each other in the trenches

While multiculturalism is meant to be built on equality and appreciation of different cultures, its concept has gained both support and opposition. On one hand, it allows for more assortment and the voices of minorities have a higher chance to be heard. On the other hand, loss of unity and conflicts may occur due to contrasting worldviews of the citizens. All in all, multiculturalismis a controversial policy that has both advantages and disadvantages, but has proven to be a successful strategy in Canada. Negative aspects of multiculturalism are also in effect, such as incoherence within a nation, loss of national identity, and conflicts among different ethnic groups. First of all, while differences are highlighted and encouraged, they are also a cause of disjointedness among the different ethnic groups in a country because they fail to function as one nation, instead forming small communities. This often causes a lack of communication between such ethnic groups and leads to a loss of unity in a country. Furthermore, immigration and pluralism often lead to a diminishment or complete disappearance of national identity in a multicultural country. An example of this is Canada because it was created on the basis of immigration without having its own distinct culture from the beginning, but choosing to include different cultures instead to become what is known today as a multicultural society. While generally it is seen in a positive light, it often raises concern that the country s identity may disappear altogether in the future. Finally, intense pluralism is oftentimes a reason for riots and conflicts, indirectly related to immigrants or ethnicity. For example, in France tension among ethnic groups and riots have happened in the past because of the conditions of the communities where the original immigrants settled in, combining high unemployment rates and discrimination. Ancient Cosmology And The Natural Laws Of The Universe It has been embedded in Chinese psyche that nature is a powerful force which nurtures life and human beings but could also be unpredictable, uncontrollable and terribly devastating. Always bearing in mind the incredible power of nature, early Chinese noticed the perpetual transformation and interchange between all elements in the universe in order to inhibit, to support, to impact and to impulse each other s development and expansion. This sun based daily pattern leads to further implication which associates yang with movement and activity (dong) and yin, on the other hand, with rest and passivity (jing). There is not much historical evidence suggesting other possible original meanings of yin and yang. However, no matter how and when the primitive concept of yin yang was formed, it has become profoundly influential in Chinese and other East Asian culture. At the beginning, yin and yang existed as two independent and unconnected concepts. Later then, we can see these two characters be written together for the first time in a verse from Shijing (Book of Songs), one of Zhou Dynasty s famous classic: Viewing the scenery at a hill, looking for yinyang . Yin and yang in this implication are interpreted as the shady and sunny sides of a hill, but meanwhile emphasizes the general impact of the sun on that hill. Nowadays, yin and yang can be used to represent many contrasting yet coordinating aspects of different objects. Yang can be masculine, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, to most people, The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger is either about a pretentious teenager who complains about nothing or a depressed teenager coping with a disillusioning loss of innocence. My mom agreed with that attribute for a perfect mate for me, and adding that the should like to discuss the books as well. Another trait we agreed on is having the love of learning. I love to learn and am always trying to learn more things. A person who is perfect for me would always be trying to learn new things, and be able to explore things with me. Part of this is not wanting to have the same thing repeat over and over again. It is important to me to be with someone who is willing to try new things and do something different than they did yesterday. What a person wants in education is important to me in a perfect mate. Music is a large part of my life not because I play a musical instrument, but because those around me do. I often times have problems with this because they can be a nuisance to me, and because of this my mom said that a perfect mate for me would not be a person who loves music. She also decided on someone who is interested in many subjects, and as mentioned before especially english and reading. • 28. The Net Government Of The United States Introduction In the book The Net Government of the United States by Donald F. Kettl is an inspiring and at times radical look at our government and its day to day attributes to our society. The ways in which the government operates and the agencies it employs are examined through and through. The author makes many arguments for their failures and against the system itself. This all leads to an opinion and analysis of a way to fix the system. The power of the government to make decisions should be purely of their own right and if the American people vote for these people then they are the leaders. There is no way to accurately fix our system and the theories and conclusions drawn up by Kettl are intriguing, but there is room for more calculation. The book presented multiple terms and theories that I could beacon to. The four that presented me with the biggest ideological standpoints are: The Mildred Paradox, The Mildred Corollary, The Vending Machine Model, and The Tectonic Plates. All of these sparked an interest with me and helped me shaped my own opinion on this book and the ideas presented by it. The Mildred Paradox In the book Kettl defines the Mildred Paradox as the federal government is doing a lot of service payment but not service provision. That is purely what the modern American public would believe. However, when the public wanted something a while ago they pushed and pushed for it from Congress. The public now has to worry about what to do with these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brainstorming and prototyping are tools that are central for the development of innovation. Effective brainstorming, allows the group to stay focused on the topic, generates many ideas early, defers judgment to avoid interrupting the flow of ideas, builds on the ideas of others, and can be visual. Here, over the course of two chapters, Bhakos discusses two reservations put into one: we should not identify Ishmael and Isaac or Sarah and Hagar as separate lineages, with some being worse than others. What Bakhos is trying to explain is that over time, Judaism and Christianity have placed distinctions between Isaac/Ishmael and Sarah/Hagar, effectively forming a way of thinking that places some people over others, while in Islam both sets of people are treated more or less as equals. That is not the case in Islam, however, where both sons, along with their mothers live in the abode of Abraham, (Bakhos 153). In Judaism and Christianity, Isaac is the sole important figure while Ishmael becomes somewhat irrelevant after Hagar is cast out by Abraham on the orders of Sarah. Both of these religions also portray Hagar as, at first, an insolent woman who looks down on Sarah because she is the one giving birth to the first son of Abraham, but they both later come back and give her a much more docile role after being spoken to by the angel in the wilderness. Other texts from these same religions, however, disagree with this and even go so far as to say Sarah was never even mad at Hagar, rather, Ishmael was the one that caused her to throw them out. Regardless, however, these two religions place very clear distinctions between the four people and effectively make two distinct branches, intimating that some people in the family line are better than others. I do not agree at all with this belief and I agree with Bakhos in that it should not be something people put their faith into. While it is true that all four people have different roles and have varying levels of importance to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, I believe that the view of Islam that all these individuals should be regarded ...
