Churchill Mapping Essay
On the battlefield leaders are faced with challenging mission requirements. The information age has
sensitized us to a variety of assets that have rarely been available but have rarely been organized,
integrated and synchronized with our traditional assets (Murphy 1996) . As technology advances,
leadership must adopt these assets for better situational understanding. Due to its range of technical
applications, the Churchill mapping system would give commanders better situational understanding
and aid ground forces in decision making. When the Nation calls upon the Army to fight and win its
next war, the operational environment will be unlike the circumstances of our recent experiences
(Perkins 2017) . It will be defined by an enemy who will challenge our ability to maintain freedom of
maneuver and superiority across air, cyberspace, land and space domains (Perkins 2017). To aid
commanders, the camera of the Churchill system allows video to be recorded and downlinked to a
command center for up to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ideal approach to command and control is one in which the person with the best situation
understanding is matched to a decision opportunity and given authorities such that a good choice is
made and communicated in time to achieve success (Hill and Niemi 2017). The Churchill mapping
system will give the commanders situational understanding and help them to make informed and
precise decisions. The system can provide high resolution imagery, 3D map imagery, and can display
geo located points (refuel locations, areas of interest, friendly or enemy forces). It can also overlay
Blue Force Tracker icons on top of real time video giving users selectable and accurate layers of data
to aid in split second decision making. All of the system information can be presented and controlled
from a single screen saving space, weight, and

Theme Of Justine
Written in retrospect, Justine is an attempt on part of Darley, the narrator, to be reconciled with
Alexandria, the city that transfigured his life. During his stay in Alexandria, Darley is constantly torn
between his love for Melissa and Justine. He associates his love for the two women with the kinds of
perfumes they wear, particularly that of Justine, which Darley searches for in a moment of yearning to
be with her. This urgent search for Justine s perfume parallels Darley s endeavor to find the true
essence of the city. However, the perfume s name, Jamais de la vie, foreshadows his inability to adapt
to the unbefitting city that shall always remain a mystery. Darley s colonial perspective of Alexandria
prevents him from viewing the city ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Part One, he finds a small empty scent bottle of the cheap kind that Melissa used (25), which he
took ... back to the flat where it stayed on the mantelpiece for some months (25). It is important to
note that Darley immediately realizes that Melissa s perfume is cheap , since it corresponds to her
simple mindedness, in addition to her physical and mental frailty. Furthermore, Darley examines the
empty bottle while measuring [the old furrier s] love against [his] own; and tasting too, vicariously,
the desperation which makes one clutch at some small discarded object which is still impregnated with
the betrayer s memory (26). This remark of desperation is ironical, for Darley himself will be put in
the same position when he later desperately sets out to find Justine s perfume, who is also a betrayer.
Justine s perfume, however, bewilders Darley. The fact that Darley does not easily recognize the kind
of perfume Justine wears sheds light on Justine s complex character and the struggle to understand the
enigma of her personality. Darley describes the first whiff he gets of Justine s perfume as, the warm
summer perfume of her dress and skin (26, 27). This loving description comes in opposition to that of
Melissa s scent bottle , which Darley does not admire but merely studies . This contrast foregrounds
the true nature of Darley s love of

Localisation And Navigation Of Mobile Robot
INTRODUCTION
TITLE: LOCALISATION AND NAVIGATION OF MOBILE ROBOT
PROJECT BACKROUND
In the last decades, many scientists have dedicated their efforts towards creating exhaustive devices
with the understanding of artificial intelligence to solve some of man s challenging and risky tasks,
Remote control evolved due to some hazardous industrial environment. The ability to navigate
through the environment is essential for any mobile robot and the need to monitor operations and use
of low cost effective method is paramount in our fast growing industries today. Mobile Robots usually
makes use of information from different types of sensors for navigation and control. Several
advancements in different technological areas have helped the vision of making living less costly and
more comfortable a reality. Some of these technologies includes smart phones, smart homes, wearable
sensors, assistive robotics. The advent of smart mobile devices have paved way for improve assistive
robotics with inclusive features like G sensor, Bluetooth, camera and USB.
PROJECT SCOPE
In other to produce a successful piece of work the electronics, mechanics and software (programming)
must work hand in hand. The increasing distribution of smart phones with numerous sensors allows
them to be used for indoor and outdoor localisation. The components involved in the project are;

Western Vs Eastern Parenting Essay
All decent parents want to do what s best for their children. [They] just have a totally different idea of
how to do that (Amy Chua). All around the world parents strive to be the perfect parent, but ultimately
they desire to determine a style of parenting that will help their child be successful. For many years,
there have been arguments about whether the Eastern or Western style of parenting is the most
effective type of parenting. Western parents are very encouraging and they provide positive
reinforcement and a nurturing environment. On the other hand, Eastern parents are strict and they
demand perfection from their child because they know that they are capable of it. However, the most
effective style of parenting is a balance between both Eastern and Western styles by encouraging
independence, not letting them give up on their dreams and passions, and by enforcing their child to
do their best.
In order to be a better parent, parents must encourage their child to become more independent. Parents
must not solve all of their child s problems for them. Being independent means not relying on another
or others for aid or support. If a child becomes independent, then they are able to determine the path
they want to go, and they are able to make their own choices in life. Parents also need to make sure
they are not over parenting their child, because then the child will become overly dependent on their
parents. Over parenting is not letting your kids take the consequences

Sweatshops Is Bad
Out of Bad Comes Good
A sweatshop is a factory where workers receive low wages while being forced to work in poor
environments. In general, these workshops produce an abundant amount of the clothing that we wear
everyday. However, few acknowledge the act of sweatshop labor, since it is rarely shown to the public
eye. Ironically, many popular fashion brands that we buy from all recieve clothes that are made in
sweatshops. While sweatshop workers are treated unfairly in the workplace, fast fashion provides
them with jobs and it provides us with the clothing that we constantly demand for. To understand the
topic of sweatshop labor, we must recognize the effects of this controversial working system.
First, we have to consider the conditions that

Who Is Ed Wuncler s Greed
Ed Wuncler s greed takes over his personality so much. Ed Wuncler is portrayed as a fat white guy in
a suit. This is usually the image painted in everyone s head when they think of a rich or powerful man.
Ed Wuncler believes that healthy food attracts the wrong crowd and that he needs to be thinking
urban, negro, the black thing about food before he opens Granddad s soul food restaurant. Ed Wuncler
knows that people who eat healthy do two things that are bad for business: they make smart choices in
life and are aware about politics. Wuncler views Granddad s Itis inducing meals as the quickest route
to cash, and could care less if the food destroys the community. Ed Wuncler is all about making
money, regardless of what has to be done in the process. Viewers of the show know of Wuncler s
money missions based on his other endeavors. He makes Jasmine sell lemonade so that she may save
enough to buy a pony but in the by the end of the episode he ends up with all of the money due to the
contract they signed. In the end of The Itis after Granddad s restaurant gets shut down, Wuncler does
not even care because his main goal was to get the health place across the street so that he could
develop it. With all these quick and easy get money schemes that Wuncler has, it is clear as to why he
has so much money. Wuncler is a person with money and power and those are two attributes
belonging to one corrupt person. Corruption is found in not only cultural capital but also in

Porphyria s Lover And My Last Duchess
Robert Browning s poems Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess depict a mastery of the dramatic
monologue style. Said style contains a narrative told by a character s point of view that differs from
that of the poet. The character s monologue consists of them discussing their particular situation that
they find themselves within, this is meant to convey their internal information to the reader or
audience. This in turn allows the reader a glimpse into the personality of the narrating character.
Within Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess these monologues are used along with poetic devices
to develop unique male personas. Between these two personas there are evident differences in class
and within each class social issues arise within each work. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Both of these works contain the unique ability, as portrayed by Browning, to create a deep fictional
psyche that displays the strange relationship between man and woman. This relationship is displayed
as one full of pain, jealousy, rejection and happiness, the majority of these emotion are contained in
love and marriage. From this the reader can infer the nature of love being the conquering of class
distinction and marriage involves sexist male inhibitions. Insecurities are seen in both poems and are
evident in the perspective voices of the male protagonists, who are seen as incapable to handle their
aggressive and possessive natures when it comes to love and marriage. Browning seems to be
demonstrating the side of relationships avoided previously by Romantics and in doing so shows the
negative implication on seemingly unruly

Chinese Foreign Relations During The Imperial Era
Among the plethora of events which have influenced modern China s foreign policy, the so called
century of humiliation holds particular sway. Also known as the hundred years of national humiliation
, it refers to the period of intervention and imperialism by western powers and Japan in China from
1839 to 1949. It has had a profound impact on how the decision makers in China have perceived the
world order since then and has heavily influenced China s policies on a strategic, political and military
front. During the imperial period, China s relations with its neighbours and people of other ethnic
groups was heavily clouded by Sino centrism and a concept of Chinese superiority through the tribute
system (John K Fairbank). Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Defeats in wars led to harsh treaties, territorial loss, repeated episodes of foreign barbarism, waning of
Chinese influence in many areas in Asia and exploitation of its rights by foreign powers. Starting from
the first Opium War, China experienced military defeats and loss of its territory and influence in Asia.
This experience made the Chinese people aware that China was inferior to the foreign powers (1968
Lucian). China s defeat in the Sino Japanese war sent a great tremor among the Chinese people. It was
perhaps the final nail in the coffin of the century of humiliation as Japan was always regarded as a
tributary or inferior barbarian country by the Chinese. All this led to a belief in the need of self
strengthening and intensifying its military by enriching the country and importing western technology
to fit itself to the new world order with effective diplomacy in order to maintain its national security,
leverage and status. From 1860 to 1896, the Self Strengtheners tried to draw western expertise and
technology to strengthen China militarily (The legacy of the past).
This time period also led them to understand the need of allying with other countries in order to
survive. For example, memories of Japanese atrocities led to the Chinese alliance with the USSR in
1949 and again normalizing relations with Russia in the 1980 s as Japan re emerged as a

Information Systems Development Case Study
Part A. Comtex Information Systems Development Case Study
Comtex is an office equipment supplier that employs over 60 people. Like almost any other company
Comtex depends on systems to record everything and invested in 3 new information systems in order
to increase efficiency within the organization. All new systems were operational systems and were as
follows:
Automated invoices: to send invoices and get cash quicker
Email system: to improve communication within employees
Customer Database: to keep records of the customers
Primary factors for failure
To begin with, a new invoicing system was implemented to deliver invoices at maximum speed. The
sellers closed the deals by phone and then passed the details to the Administration Department so they
could enter information into the computer. However, sellers usually closed the deals offering a
discount in terms of a cash figure when the system could only process discounted percentages. As a
result, the administration department had to work out with calculators the percentages with the
consequent waste of time. This is a sign of failure in the design of the IT infrastructure as it was not
taken into account a common practice within the organisation. It could be said that the system
developers made wrong assumptions about the requirements of the system, which happens when the
developers do not have input from the users and they develop what they think the organization needs
and not what the organization really needs

Meaning Of Race In The Film Understanding Race
The Meaning Of Race
The film Understanding Race gives many accounts of the meaning of the word race and what race
actually is and what it isn t. According to the film, most scientists agree that race doesn t exists in the
natural world. This conclusion was drawn in 1998, the concept of race was proven to have no
scientific validity and is not scientifically proven. The film suggests that just because the concept of
race isn t proven by science, that doesn t take away from the concept of race having a true meaning for
humans. Although race has a meaning to humans, there is not a distinct answer to what race means.
For example, during an interview in the film a comedian Margaret Cho, defines race as being what
you are but not who you are. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dolores Newton points out during the film that one of the things that has made humans successful on
Earth is that we have always been good at classifying things and looking at similarities and
differences. Maya Angelo suggests during an in film interview that we use the differences because we
don t know any better. She also suggests that we use the differences between ourselves in hopes that
we can make our own lives better. Although over many centuries humans have tried to divide humans
based on race, it has been proven that the human species cannot be divided into a small number of
groups because nobody has came up with a reasonable list of racial groups. The film states that
preconceptions about the race of people is something that all humans experience in their lifetime
whether they like to admit or not. Many of the preconceptions that individuals have will cause them to
act violently towards someone of a different race. Racial violence in America and the rest of World is
not uncommon. Throughout the history of the World there have been an unprecedented amount of
people who have suffered often fatal consequences simply because of their

The Life And Opinions Of Tristram Shandy, Sisband
Writing, when properly managed, (as you may be sure I think mine is) is but a different name for a
conversation (87; vol. II, ch. XI), states the narrator Tristram Shandy in Laurence Sterne s novel, The
Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Indeed, the distinctive writing style of the novel
may make one feel reminded of a real conversation due to the many interruptions and digressions,
which are typical of human face to face interaction and which occasionally make it more difficult for
the reader to follow the storyline.
Following the above depicted statement, Tristram proceeds by maintaining that the truest respect

the reader or a narratee like Sir or Madam, and the resulting consequences for the respective addressee
in terms of how they are dealt with. In order to achieve this, the analysis will be confined to only three
visual elements, namely asterisks, dashes, and gaps because they are the most common ones. Although
literary researchers have already examined these particular visual elements, they have not done so in
terms of their recipients. For my analysis, it is important to distinguish between the narratee, the
implied reader, and the actual reader: According to Jahn, the narratee is the narrator s fictional
addressee (cf. N1.5.); the implied reader, as already mentioned above, is a text s overall projection of a
reader role, superordinate to any narratee (N2.3.2.), which means that he is e.g. able to understand the
function of all visual elements in the novel and handles them perfectly; Which is, according to Iser,
influenced by his former experience (cf. Der Akt des Lesens 66). The actual reader, consequently, does
not necessarily have this experience and might struggle during the reading

Dysfunctional Families
Dysfunctional families breed dysfunctional children. This can stay with them all the way up to their
marriage and is most likely to occur in their relationship. According to research done by the University
of Chicago ( published in the journal of Abnormal Child Psychology) social skills can be interpreted
as everything from the basic please and thank you to speaking in large crowds. How parents deal with
that is just as important for the child as the violence they are being exposed to. In the end, they both
affect the child one way or another. Part of the Brain The brain is the central control system for the
entire body. It is made up of many parts, but there is a very important part of the brain, in this case
would be the Visual Cortex the part of the brain responsible for processing visual information. This
part of the brain is what gets fired up when watching a horror movie. (US National Library of

Mark Twain- American Author
Some of the most riveting books in not just American literature but in all of history, was written by
this famous author. Twain, an American writer, is one of the major authors of American fiction. Also,
he is considered the greatest humorist in American literature (Alan Gribben, np). Mark Twain was
influenced by the society s conditions he lived in, hence the incorporation of much of it in his writing.
Growing up in the 1870s, Twain s society was much different than growing up now. He grew up
during the outbreak of the civil war and he lived during the time of major cynical political corruption
that began in the late 1860s all the way to 1900. He was also raised during a time where slave holding
was acceptable, and encouraged. Under his father s influence, he was told that slavery was justified
through biblical principles. The majority of people in Hannibal, where Twain grew up, thought this
and was the reason why everyone was proslavery. The local pulpit taught us that God approved it, that
it was a holy thing and that the doubter need only look in the Bible if he wished to settle his mind and
then the texts were read aloud to us to make the matter sure; if the slaves themselves had an aversion
to slavery, they were wise and said nothing... (Twain 212 ) This quote portrayed how the people Twain
grew up with encouraged slavery because it was accepted by God. However, even though Twain grew
up in this condition he was never a supporter of slavery or racism. This point

The Study Of The Theory Of International Relations
The study of international relations takes a vast spectrum of theoretical approaches. A theory of
international relations is a collection of concepts that delineate how the international system operates
(SparkNote on International Politics, 2010). Contrary to an ideology, a theory of international studies
is endorsed with solid evidence. This essay will focus on two dominant theories of International
Relations (IR), namely realism and liberalism to decide for this matter on the more pragmatic one for
the study of IR. According to realism, states work only to gain more power relative to that of other
states (Donelan: 1990:23). Liberalism matured in the 1970s as some scholars generated arguments that
realism was defunct. With the rise of globalization, the immediate increase in communications
technology, and the expansion of international trade meant that states could no longer be dependent on
complete power politics to resolve matters (Lawson, 2015:96). ... Show more content on

China And The United States
China and the United States has its own unique culture. What is culture? According to Kluckhohn and
Kroeber Culture consists in patterned ways of thinking, feeling, and reacting, acquired and transmitted
mainly by symbols, constituting the distinctive achievements of human groups (Dowling, Festing,
Engle, 2013, p. 24). There are many interesting facts surrounding their culture. In this paper I will
compare China s culture to the culture of the United States to determine if China is a good match for a
United States multinational firm who is looking to enter a foreign market. The aspects of culture
difference I will be focusing on will include the following: language, religion, music, cooking, social
norms and customs. The paper will end with a conclusion of my findings. The Chinese and English
language have many significant differences. China does not have a single language, they have many
different versions or dialects that include Wu, Taiwanese and Cantonese. Mandarin, also known as
Northern Chinese is the mother tongue of about 70% of Chinese speakers and is the accepted written
language for all Chinese ( Language differences: English Chinese, n.d.). However, English is the only
language of the United States. Another difference between language in China and the United States is
that the Chinese language do not use an alphabet system, they use a system call logographic where
instead symbols represent words ( Language differences: English Chinese, n.d.). The

Examples Of Mystery In The Godfather
Sengupta 23
Chapter III
Development of Mystery through Plot Construction
Mystery plays an integral part in a crime fiction. It is the expertise of the author upon which the
intensity of the mystery running through the lines depends upon. It is this element of mystery that
builds up the tension in the course of the fiction. That is the major factor that holds the readers to the
text. The gradual progression of the novel ultimately reconciling the pent up tension solves the
mystery. The Godfather builds up an atmosphere of mystery since the very opening lines of the novel.

The only question that was haunting other members of the Mafia gang as well as the readers was that,
Where was Luca Brasi? (107) He was being called several number of times only to find the call going
on ringing without any fruitful outcome. At a certain point of time, the readers even suspect him of
treachery for which he has chosen self exile to hide from the Don and his men. Finally in the Chapter
VII, the mystery of Luca Brasi is gradually being revealed. He was being sent by the Don to meet
Bruno Tattaglia from the Tattaglia Family to get more information regarding Sollozzo s proceedings.
Bruno told Brasi that he wanted him to meet a friend of his. Luca Brasi was in confusion regarding
who it can be. Secrecy enhances the mystery for which Bruno told him that they will be meeting each
other after the bar closes at 4 A.M. Luca thought once to inform the Don regarding this meeting but
postponed his plan as the Don does not like to speak over the phone and Don has asked to keep this
assignment as a secret from Hagen as well as his sons. Luca Brasi could sense that something wrong is
going to happen. He took precautions against any mishandling of his body for which he wore a
bulletproof vest before leaving to Bruno and Sollozzo. When he went there he was being offered with
a drink that he refused to drink that sensing something wrong might

The Effects Of Video Games On Our Culture Today
ABSTRACT
Video games have become a driving force in our culture today, and the effects, both positive and
negative are scrutinized on a daily basis. The violent aspects of this form of media are a cause of
concern, but to what effect remains an important question. This research proposal aims to look at a
gap in the literature on this topic by qualitatively accessing aggression and enjoyment of players based
on varying difficulty levels and numerous genre types available in the market today. The ultimate goal
is to understand if the difficulty is an additional cause for potential aggressive behavior.
INTRODUCTION
In the Entertainment Software Association s 2013 report, information on the video game industry can
summarized as: 1) 59% of Americans play video games, 2) Consumers spent $21.83 billion on video
game hardware/accessories and video games, 3) 48% of all gamers are women, and 4) 51% of US
households own a dedicated console, and those that do own an average of two. (theesa.com, 2014).
The facts speak for themselves: video games have become a significant part of our culture today, and
can also be seen internationally. I personally worked for gaming retailer GameStop for almost 8 years,
and utilizing that knowledge base, I intend to be a part of the growing industry. However, it is
important to understand that the past time so many enjoy can have adverse effects, as legal battles over
the violent content of games have attempted to argue. Various school shootings

Animail Farm
Revisionist Tactics in Animal Farm The revisionist history casts a false light on actual events and
misrepresents reality. The book Animal Farm is a vicious assessment of the history and rhetoric of the
Russian Revolution. Retelling the story of the emergence and development of Soviet communism in
the form of an animal fable, Animal Farm allegorizes the rise to power of the dictator Joseph Stalin. In
the novella, the overthrow of the human oppressor Mr. Jones by a democratic coalition of animals
quickly gives way to the consolidation of power among the pigs. In the fable the pigs use revisionist
tactics to maintain control over the other animals and to maintain secrecy and sovereignty. The
revisionist tactics are displayed in many ways ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also work to convince the animals of Napoleon s superior bravery during that battle. So vividly
does Squealer describe Napoleon s suspected heroic actions that the animals are almost able to
remember them? Four days later, Napoleon convenes all of the animals in the yard. With his nine huge
dogs ringed about him and growling, he stages an inquisition and a purge: he forces certain animals to
confess to their participation in a conspiracy with Snowball and then has the dogs tear out these
supposed traitors throats. Here the revisionist or the pigs alter the facts to receive legitimacy from the
other animals. They created the story of Snowball selling himself to the farmers; they then built off of
this fabrication to discredit his acts during the Battle of Cowshed. They also began to introduce to the
other animals of the illusion that Napoleon played a great and heroic role in the battle. Since the other
animals had been brain washed they doubted their own memories and felt believed everything that
was told to them. In chapter nine it discusses the subject of Boxers death. One day, Boxer s strength
fails; he collapses while pulling stone for the windmill. The pigs announce that they will arrange to
bring Boxer to a human hospital to recuperate, but when the cart arrives, Benjamin reads the writing
on the cart s sideboards and announces that Boxer is being sent to a glue maker to be slaughtered. The

Examples Of Tension In Antigone
Every person has their own idea of how they want their life to turn out. In the play Antigone,
Sophocles conveys the message that each character s opinion gave conflict with another, creating
collision and tension. The play is filled with different problems among the characters that builds up
into a tragic ending. It starts off with Antigone wanting to bury her brother, Polyneices; even when
Creon, the king, announced that death was the punishment of doing such an act.
First, Antigone and Ismenê s conversation consisted of complex and compound complex sentences.
Antigone explains why she wants to bury her brother; aware of the punishment Creon is prepared to
give. In the Prologue, Antigone states, He is my brother. And he is your brother too. (191) Ismenê
refuses to honor her brother because of Creon s laws, as she says, But think of the danger! Think what
Creon will do! (191) Ismenê was stressed on the fact that she did not want her sister, Antigone to take

Hypnosis is defined as a state of heightened suggestibility. It is used to calm down and relax. It can
even be used as a replacement to anesthesia in surgeries (Maruyama Ch 6 lecture). In one case, two
people, one man and one woman, put their hands into a bucket of ice, the woman hypnotized and the
man at a normal mental state, and were told to rate their pain on a scale of one to ten at occasional
intervals prompted by the experimenter and to leave their hands in the bucket for as long as possible.
The woman, being hypnotized, never raised above one on her pain scale; whereas the man gradually
raised and eventually pulled his hand out after a couple minutes (Hypnosis video shown in class).
Some hypnosis techniques include hypnotic induction, in which one person leads the other into a

Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court as a Dystopian Work
For years, Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court has been primarily viewed as a
work of simple satire. Twain, desiring to poke fun at a group of America s cultural critics, chief among
them Matthew Arnold, who claimed that cultural life in the U.S. treaded on shallow soil, takes aim at
the venerated institutions of Britain. The author attempts to show that his country s lack of
romanticized social structures, meaning an absence of royalty, the Catholic church, and long dead
knights and princesses, was far from a cultural weakness. Twain explodes the myth around idealized
chivalric society and proves it to be no match for the Nineteenth ... Show more content on

Here, as in much of Tom Sawyer and most of Huckleberry Finn, he is a great novelist (DeVoto, 274).
The work devolves from its first chapters, however, and becomes something very different by the end
of the novel. A Connecticut Yankee s climactic, blood letting ending, in particular, stands out as
amateurish bungling by the author. Twain, in a burst of what seems, upon initial investigation, a
beginning writer s attempt to resolve a novel that has spiraled out of his control, kills off his
antagonists and finally his protagonist as well. It seems that Twain throws his hands up in frustration
and ends the action in an orgy of electrocutions and Gatling gun fire. . . . the book is chaos. Twain s
mind was not able to stay within[satire s] limits. His imaginative ferment demanded gigantic
expression, (DeVoto, 278). An alternate reading of the conclusion, however, allows the reader to take a
vastly different critical angle on the book.
When viewed through the lens of anti utopian or dystopian analogy, A Connecticut Yankee in King
Arthur s Court s finale becomes a grave prediction of man s industrialized future. Where Aldous
Huxley augured man s enslavement to technology, its intellectual and critical emasculation in Brave
New World, Twain s work can be construed to encapsulate the pending destruction of society s
innocence and idealism by

Persuasive Essay On Surfboarding
Imagine you are at the beach. You are laying down a towel and setting up an umbrella when
something catches your eye. Out in the ocean you see a surfer catching some waves, and it looks so
fun and exciting that you almost grab a board and join in. However you don t know how to surf and
would rather not embarrass yourself in front of all these beach goers. Surfing, however, isn t
complicated at all and can be accomplished in these simple steps. Firstly, you need to get the proper
equipment. You will, of course, need a surfboard. The fun board, as well as the foam board, is
recommended for beginners. They are easy to balance and turn on. After you have your board, you
need to get a leash. It is an essential equipment to have because it makes sure your board does not
float away. Surfboard wax is also important because it keeps you from slipping off your board, so
make sure to get it. Now that you have gathered all the materials, it is time to prepare yourself. To
prepare, you can do yoga. Yoga will help you gain upper body strength allowing you to paddle and
pop up on your board faster. Besides yoga, you also need to practice your balance. Spending some
time on a wakeboard or skateboard will help. After you practice this, you need to find your stance on
the surfboard. To do this, get a skateboard or a surfboard, and stand parallel to it. If you are using a

The Demographics Of The U.s. Essay
The demographics of the U.S. are forever evolving. No generation is like the one before. Trends come
and go, ethnic diversity increases, and social norms change. Therefore, as expected, the need and
attitude towards particular products changes. There are very few consumer items that are able to
withstand the test of time. Those products are typically essential lifestyle or hygiene goods. For
example, products like bath soap have been around for years and it is unlikely that the need for them
go away anytime soon. With that being said, it does not mean that products like soaps, shampoos, etc.
do not need to evolve with the changing desires of our country. They too must also add variety into
their product mix, as well as change their methods of marketing to keep up with the times. Let s now
take a look at some demographic trends that will impact how companies market in the U.S. for the
years to come.
Hispanic Population Growth
Hispanics are the fastest growing ethnic/racial group in America. In 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau
reported that Hispanics make up over 17% of the population and it projects that they will account for
nearly 30% of the population by the year 2060. This change will greatly impact what products
companies put out on the market, who they market them to, and how they market them. A 2010 report
on demographics conducted by the Nielsen Company revealed that Hispanics spend more money on
baby items (formula, diapers, etc.). Diaper brands Pampers, Huggies, and

Levitt And Dubner s Arguments For The Legalization Of Crime
In my opinion, I believe that Levitt and Dubner both made a very strong argument when they spoke
about the possible cause(s) of decline of criminal and abortion rates within Chapter 4. The reason that
Levitt and Dubner made such a strong argument within this chapter is due to the fact that they were
very informative with their examples and statistics, and even included a short backstory at the
beginning to make the readers aware of the situation at hand. At the beginning of the book, the
introduction also shortly speaks of the prediction of the rise in criminal rates and how they would
continue to rise over the next several years. What caught the criminologists and experts by surprise
was that instead of rising crime rates the crime began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the main reasons behind the drop in crime rates was the legalization of birth control laws.
When children are born without a mother, a caring family, and a decent place to live in, their chances
of becoming a criminal increase due to the lack of love and care during their early childhood years.
Levitt and Dubner stated that Legalized abortion led to less unwantedness; unwantedness leads to high
crimes; legalized abortion, therefore, led to less crime (Levitt, 139). In order to test this theory to
prove whether or not legalizing abortion would decrease the crime rates, some states had to act as
early legalizing states that supported the legalization of abortion. Between 1988 and 1994, violent
crime in the early legalizing states fell 13 percent compared to the other states; between 1994 and
1997, their murder rates fell 23 percent more than those of other states (Levitt, 140). Once the few
early legalizing states took action and legalized abortion laws, the crime rates began to plummet. From
my perspective, because of Levitt and Dubner s extensive use of facts and statistics to support the
reasoning behind the disappearance of criminals, they were able to

The City Of Branson s Fiscal Year Runs
Budget Process Goals
The City of Branson s fiscal year runs January 1 through December 31. Typically, the budget
preparation process begins in mid July when budget documents and instructions are distributed by the
Finance Department to the each city department. The various departments have approximately three
weeks to assess any budget goals, capital and personnel requests, and to complete projections for the
current fiscal year. By mid August, the Finance Department completes a preliminary review of the
departments budget, personnel and capital requests. The City Administrator then meets with the
Finance Director to review any requests, and schedules one on one meetings with each department
head.
As the first organization in Missouri to implement Priority Based Budgeting, prior to their
administrative review each department head is encouraged to perform a review of programs offered by
their department and to establish what programs are not meeting the results identified by the board.
The purpose of this process is to allow for reallocation of resources to programs that are determined to
need more funding, in place of simply incrementally increasing the departmental line item budget.
Aside from simply eliminating the programs that are not achieving desired results, the directors are
encouraged to develop solutions to how the identified programs may perform more efficiently.

Furthermore, the symbolic use of goatish establishes the lecherous nature of man that tempts
Gloucester to commit adultery. The mythological allusion with the reference to the constellations
symbolizes the lascivious, demonic nature, which dictates the superstitious belief that an illegitimate

on the nature, his sin brings disturbance to the order of the universe with the birth of his bastard son,
which results in his nemesis as the retribution of his indulgence in lust. Shakespeare s use of expletive,

that Gloucester s hamartia is the weakness in resisting temptation and his ignorance that fails to

familiar materials in different ways, For example, in our in class workshop we randomly selected
straws and connectors and animal characters. We had a choice to select anything.(intrinsic motivation)
This opportunity made us to think what kind of materials we wanted to play with, without any adult
interfering (exploration) not only we were motivated as we wanted to make something, but once we
gathered our material we were engaged in a discussion about how to make a building out of it.(social

Facing Death in Tuesdays with Morrie, the author, Mitch Albom
Through society as a civilization we are constantly being reminded of death. In Tuesdays with Morrie,
the author, Mitch Albom, conveys the story of his professor, Morrie Schwartz, whom is dealing with a
life threatening disease. In his life Mitch is so caught up materialistic possessions that he begins to
lose focus on the true meaning in life. After this realization Mitch comes in contact with Morrie and
writes down on a piece of paper a list, death, fear, aging, greed, marriage, family, society, forgiveness,
and a meaningful life. (66) This list signifies different life lessons that Mitch knew of, but seemed to
have forgotten. The first lesson on the list was death. Through society, as a civilization, we are
constantly being reminded of death. With these constant reminders we have had to understand that
death is a natural occurrence, but have we actually ever come to terms with the concept of death?
Morrie, society, and my own outlook on the concept of death all have different features that together
could form a better understanding of death. When symptoms arose and a diagnosis of Amyotrophic
Lateral Sclerosis (ASL) was given, Morrie had basically accepted that his fate was going to indeed
result in death. He was an extremely philosophical character that spoke with words of meaning,
whether you noticed it or not to, almost like every sentence or phrase he said were carefully thought
through. Morrie said, It s not contagious, you know. Death is as natural as life.

Social Media s Impact On Emotional Health
People are social creates. We thrive in a world of relationships. This is why social support and
emotional health are correlated. Support is a very large part of people s lives. However is our society
today fit for social support? Social media has taken our sociality to a new level of connection. In some
way we are closer than we ever been but in other ways we have lost that social support. This can affect
the emotional health of people it great ways. First is the biggest impact that social media has and that
is on teens and how they get their social support from twitter and snap chat rather than going to
someone face to face. Another way social media can impact emotional health is through online
support groups. Finally how social media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These teens looking for support on self image and turned to the internet for help rather than friends or
family. Teens are not only using social media for support with physical image but teens also have been
using if for suicide prevention. In an article from American Journal for Public Health about Social
media and suicide it states that: The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Facebook page had more
than 29 300 fans as of November 2011, and the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention Facebook
page had more than 77 200 fans. (Lenhart, 2009)
Now to these Facebook pages don t just have fans but have on their pages have suicide prevention
website links and hotlines for people to contact. The point being is that teens are going to the internet
and social media for social support. It used to be teens would go to school counselors or people of
trust to get advice and help. But now teens are choosing to look to their lap tops and tablets then to the
faces of people around them. Yet this should not be the end all and be all. Social media has a benefit to
it and that is online support groups. Online support groups are a great way for people who don t have
the opportunity to get out to a support group or don t have one in the area to get social support in time
of need. This has been a great

Biography of Fredrick Douglass
When you think of great Americans in our history there are countless that come to mind. Some
immediately think of the many presidents we have had, others think of inventors, but what about the
people that are in between the people that fought for equality. Fredrick Douglass arguably had the
greatest impact on American society, especially African American society, in the nineteenth century.
Douglass is credited as being an abolitionist, author, editor, and diplomat. He used literature, books,
newspapers, and even speeches, to leave a long lasting mark on our society. Douglass advised
presidents and lectured to thousands about different causes, including women s rights. A cause he felt
a strong connection with was the abolishing of slavery, being that he was once a slave. Frederick
Augustus Washington Bailey born into slavery in February 1818 in Talbot County, Maryland. The
exact date of his birthday is unknown, although according to his book Narrative of the Life of an
American Slave he chose to take February 14th being his birthday because his mother, whom died
when he was about 10, referred to him as her little valentine . I have no accurate knowledge of my
age, never having seen any authentic record containing it. (Douglass) Douglass was the son of a slave
mother and possibly his owner. (Foner pg 390) The opinion was ... whispered that my master was my
father; but of the correctness of this opinion I know nothing. (Douglass) At a young age he was
selected to live

The information age has sensitized us to a variety of assets that have rarely been available but have rarely been organized, integrated and synchronized with our traditional assets (Murphy 1996) . As technology advances, leadership must adopt these assets for better situational understanding. Due to its range of technical applications, the Churchill mapping system would give commanders better situational understanding and aid ground forces in decision making. When the Nation calls upon the Army to fight and win its next war, the operational environment will be unlike the circumstances of our recent experiences (Perkins 2017) . It will be defined by an enemy who will challenge our ability to maintain freedom of maneuver and superiority across air, cyberspace, land and space domains (Perkins 2017). • 3. Theme Of Justine Written in retrospect, Justine is an attempt on part of Darley, the narrator, to be reconciled with Alexandria, the city that transfigured his life. During his stay in Alexandria, Darley is constantly torn between his love for Melissa and Justine. He associates his love for the two women with the kinds of perfumes they wear, particularly that of Justine, which Darley searches for in a moment of yearning to be with her. This urgent search for Justine s perfume parallels Darley s endeavor to find the true essence of the city. It is important to note that Darley immediately realizes that Melissa s perfume is cheap , since it corresponds to her simple mindedness, in addition to her physical and mental frailty. Furthermore, Darley examines the empty bottle while measuring [the old furrier s] love against [his] own; and tasting too, vicariously, the desperation which makes one clutch at some small discarded object which is still impregnated with the betrayer s memory (26). This remark of desperation is ironical, for Darley himself will be put in the same position when he later desperately sets out to find Justine s perfume, who is also a betrayer. Justine s perfume, however, bewilders Darley. The fact that Darley does not easily recognize the kind of perfume Justine wears sheds light on Justine s complex character and the struggle to understand the enigma of her personality. Darley describes the first whiff he gets of Justine s perfume as, the warm summer perfume of her dress and skin (26, 27). This loving description comes in opposition to that of Melissa s scent bottle , which Darley does not admire but merely studies . This contrast foregrounds the true nature of Darley s love of ... • 5. Western Vs Eastern Parenting Essay All decent parents want to do what s best for their children. [They] just have a totally different idea of how to do that (Amy Chua). All around the world parents strive to be the perfect parent, but ultimately they desire to determine a style of parenting that will help their child be successful. For many years, there have been arguments about whether the Eastern or Western style of parenting is the most effective type of parenting. Western parents are very encouraging and they provide positive reinforcement and a nurturing environment. On the other hand, Eastern parents are strict and they demand perfection from their child because they know that they are capable of it. However, the most effective style of parenting is a balance between both Eastern and Western styles by encouraging independence, not letting them give up on their dreams and passions, and by enforcing their child to do their best. In order to be a better parent, parents must encourage their child to become more independent. Parents must not solve all of their child s problems for them. Being independent means not relying on another or others for aid or support. If a child becomes independent, then they are able to determine the path they want to go, and they are able to make their own choices in life. Parents also need to make sure they are not over parenting their child, because then the child will become overly dependent on their parents. Over parenting is not letting your kids take the consequences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has had a profound impact on how the decision makers in China have perceived the world order since then and has heavily influenced China s policies on a strategic, political and military front. Defeats in wars led to harsh treaties, territorial loss, repeated episodes of foreign barbarism, waning of Chinese influence in many areas in Asia and exploitation of its rights by foreign powers. Starting from the first Opium War, China experienced military defeats and loss of its territory and influence in Asia. This experience made the Chinese people aware that China was inferior to the foreign powers (1968 Lucian). China s defeat in the Sino Japanese war sent a great tremor among the Chinese people. It was perhaps the final nail in the coffin of the century of humiliation as Japan was always regarded as a tributary or inferior barbarian country by the Chinese. All this led to a belief in the need of self strengthening and intensifying its military by enriching the country and importing western technology to fit itself to the new world order with effective diplomacy in order to maintain its national security, leverage and status. Indeed, the distinctive writing style of the novel may make one feel reminded of a real conversation due to the many interruptions and digressions, which are typical of human face to face interaction and which occasionally make it more difficult for the reader to follow the storyline. Although literary researchers have already examined these particular visual elements, they have not done so in terms of their recipients. For my analysis, it is important to distinguish between the narratee, the implied reader, and the actual reader: According to Jahn, the narratee is the narrator s fictional addressee (cf. Mark Twain was influenced by the society s conditions he lived in, hence the incorporation of much of it in his writing. According to Kluckhohn and Kroeber Culture consists in patterned ways of thinking, feeling, and reacting, acquired and transmitted mainly by symbols, constituting the distinctive achievements of human groups (Dowling, Festing, Engle, 2013, p. 24). There are many interesting facts surrounding their culture. In this paper I will compare China s culture to the culture of the United States to determine if China is a good match for a United States multinational firm who is looking to enter a foreign market. The aspects of culture difference I will be focusing on will include the following: language, religion, music, cooking, social norms and customs. The paper will end with a conclusion of my findings. The Chinese and English language have many significant differences. China does not have a single language, they have many different versions or dialects that include Wu, Taiwanese and Cantonese. Mandarin, also known as Northern Chinese is the mother tongue of about 70% of Chinese speakers and is the accepted written language for all Chinese ( Language differences: English Chinese, n.d.). However, English is the only language of the United States. Another difference between language in China and the United States is that the Chinese language do not use an alphabet system, they use a system call logographic where instead symbols represent words ( Language differences: English Chinese, n.d.). • 27. The Effects Of Video Games On Our Culture Today ABSTRACT Video games have become a driving force in our culture today, and the effects, both positive and negative are scrutinized on a daily basis. The violent aspects of this form of media are a cause of concern, but to what effect remains an important question. This research proposal aims to look at a gap in the literature on this topic by qualitatively accessing aggression and enjoyment of players based on varying difficulty levels and numerous genre types available in the market today. The ultimate goal is to understand if the difficulty is an additional cause for potential aggressive behavior. INTRODUCTION In the Entertainment Software Association s 2013 report, information on the video game industry can summarized as: 1) 59% of Americans play video games, 2) Consumers spent $21.83 billion on video game hardware/accessories and video games, 3) 48% of all gamers are women, and 4) 51% of US households own a dedicated console, and those that do own an average of two. (theesa.com, 2014). The facts speak for themselves: video games have become a significant part of our culture today, and can also be seen internationally. I personally worked for gaming retailer GameStop for almost 8 years, and utilizing that knowledge base, I intend to be a part of the growing industry. However, it is important to understand that the past time so many enjoy can have adverse effects, as legal battles over the violent content of games have attempted to argue. With his nine huge dogs ringed about him and growling, he stages an inquisition and a purge: he forces certain animals to confess to their participation in a conspiracy with Snowball and then has the dogs tear out these supposed traitors throats. Here the revisionist or the pigs alter the facts to receive legitimacy from the other animals. They created the story of Snowball selling himself to the farmers; they then built off of this fabrication to discredit his acts during the Battle of Cowshed. They also began to introduce to the other animals of the illusion that Napoleon played a great and heroic role in the battle. Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court as a Dystopian Work For years, Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court has been primarily viewed as a work of simple satire. Twain, desiring to poke fun at a group of America s cultural critics, chief among them Matthew Arnold, who claimed that cultural life in the U.S. treaded on shallow soil, takes aim at the venerated institutions of Britain. The author attempts to show that his country s lack of romanticized social structures, meaning an absence of royalty, the Catholic church, and long dead knights and princesses, was far from a cultural weakness. Here, as in much of Tom Sawyer and most of Huckleberry Finn, he is a great novelist (DeVoto, 274). The work devolves from its first chapters, however, and becomes something very different by the end of the novel. A Connecticut Yankee s climactic, blood letting ending, in particular, stands out as amateurish bungling by the author. Twain, in a burst of what seems, upon initial investigation, a beginning writer s attempt to resolve a novel that has spiraled out of his control, kills off his antagonists and finally his protagonist as well. It seems that Twain throws his hands up in frustration and ends the action in an orgy of electrocutions and Gatling gun fire. . . . the book is chaos. Twain s mind was not able to stay within[satire s] limits. His imaginative ferment demanded gigantic expression, (DeVoto, 278). An alternate reading of the conclusion, however, allows the reader to take a vastly different critical angle on the book. When viewed through the lens of anti utopian or dystopian analogy, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court s finale becomes a grave prediction of man s industrialized future. One of the main reasons behind the drop in crime rates was the legalization of birth control laws. When children are born without a mother, a caring family, and a decent place to live in, their chances of becoming a criminal increase due to the lack of love and care during their early childhood years. Levitt and Dubner stated that Legalized abortion led to less unwantedness; unwantedness leads to high crimes; legalized abortion, therefore, led to less crime (Levitt, 139). In order to test this theory to prove whether or not legalizing abortion would decrease the crime rates, some states had to act as early legalizing states that supported the legalization of abortion. Between 1988 and 1994, violent crime in the early legalizing states fell 13 percent compared to the other states; between 1994 and 1997, their murder rates fell 23 percent more than those of other states (Levitt, 140).
