Listening Skills Essay
Listening is one of the important skills among three other English skills; reading, writing and
speaking. Listening play significant role in language development. Listening is the ability to hear and
understand what other people say. It is also the basic skill that we have in learning language because
we listen before we speak. Just take the example of the babies. Before they can talk with their parents,
they only give signs when they want to communicate with them by crying. They only listen to the
speech or sounds that close to them. By the time, they gain all of knowledge and information from the
people near them. Then, they start to imitate and try to speak. Of course, this takes time, the babies
cannot talk directly when they listen to the language. So, this is the same as the learners who try to
learn English as a second language. Especially in listening ability. Listening is a receptive skill
because the learners do not need to produce the language. They only receive and try to understand the
language. Receptive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Because the learners listen the movie video while read the subtitle. Beside subtitle can improve learner
listening ability. It can also help the learners unconsciously remember a new vocabulary (Vanderplank,
1988). Sometimes, the learners miss the hearing of the vocabulary because they are not sure what is
the vocabulary that spoken in the movie video, but with the help of subtitle the learner can read the
subtitle and they will keep that in their mind much better. Although, the use of subtitle sometimes can
distract and disturb the learner when they watch the movie video because they tend to read the subtitle

The Scientific Revolution Of Western Civilizations
During the seventeenth century, the scientific revolution in Europe was at its peak, changing people s
lives through the new techniques of the scientific method. Citizens of western civilizations had
previously used religion as the lens through which they perceived their beliefs and customs in their
communities. Before the scientific revolution, science and religion were intertwined, and people were
taught to accept religious laws and doctrines without questioning; the Church was the ultimate
authority on how the world worked. However, during this revolution, scientists were inspired to learn
and understand the laws of the universe had created, a noble and controversial move toward truth
seeking. The famous scientists of the time, such as Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo and Newton, were
known to be natural philosophers, intending to reveal God s mystery and understand (through proof)
the majesty of God. Throughout previous centuries, people had hypothesized how the world and
natural phenomenon may work, and new Protestant ideals demanded constant interrogation and
examination. Nevertheless, some of these revelations went against the Church s teachings and
authority. If people believed the Church could be wrong, then they could question everything around
them, as well. As a result, the introduction of the scientific method, a process by which scientists
discovered and proved new theories, was revolutionary because it distinguished what could be proved
as real from what was simply

The Lack Of Diversity During The Ballet World Essay
The lack of diversity in the ballet world was greatly affected at the discovery of Misty Copeland.
Being an African American dancer, she knew that she would face struggles greater than those that are
already set in the dance world. Although Misty struggled in being accepted, with the love she had for
the art, she desired to be great. Copeland knew that her efforts, passion, and admiration would
distinguish her from other dancers. She did not hesitate in the idea that a she was going to grow into a
successful ballerina. Despite the criticism made upon her at first glance her heart remained strong and
humble, aching to dance through every negative comment possible. Misty Copeland, the face of
change to the stereotypical dance world.
Ballet, a classical and stylistic style of dance developed in the 19th Century. Ballet was introduced by
Catherine de Medici of Italy upon her marriage to Henry II, the French King. After their marriage
these early dance styles were then brought into court life in France by Madam Catherine. The artistic
styles of ballet have been modified since the idea of this stylistic dance had emerged in the 1500 s.
When ballet first began, the ruling strictly was revolved regarding a french preference. Dancer s were
first recognized as entertainment for the King. They wore restrictive clothing that made moving
challenging and difficult, such as masks, headdresses, and shoes much as formal attire,to keep the
formal classical French preference. As the art

Compare And Contrast Evolution And Artificial Selection

Weekly Assignment: 4 October 2017
1) Compare and contrast evolution by artificial selection and natural selection. (Ch. 7)
Natural selection is an essential process of evolution proposed by Charles Darwin and generally
accepted by the scientific community as the best explanation for the adaptation and specialization of
organisms.
Artificial selection is a technique of reproductive control by which man alters the genes of domestic or
cultivated organisms. This technique is based on the inheritable characteristics of the species,
increasing the frequency with which certain variations appear in the following generations; there is a
directed evolution, in which human preferences determine the ... Show more content on

Evolution has led to the approval of new species and others have disappeared throughout the planet;
today, a great diversity of organisms of different species can be seen throughout the ecosystems, some
are in danger of extinction. The artificial selection causes the species to no longer compete naturally,
so this leads to degradation and disappearance of the species. Natural selection is the basis of all
evolutionary change. It is the process through which, the best adapted organisms displace the less
adapted ones by the slow accumulation of favorable genetic changes in the population during the
generations. The importance is that natural selection is one of the main mechanisms of evolution,
since this favors or disadvantages the survival of certain species, to achieve survival need to adapt to
their environment and the changes they produce.
2) How should stabilizing and disruptive selection affect the magnitude of phenotypic variation from
one generation to the next? (Ch. 7)
Stabilizing selection favors intermediate phenotypes within a range. The extremes of the variations are
selected against. Children weighing significantly less than or equal to 3.4 kg have higher rates of
infant mortality. The selection works against both extremes. In this type of selection, the intermediate
phenotypes are favored and radical phenotypes are eliminated at both ends of a continuum of
variation.
Disruptive selection is a type of natural selection, ie There

Alligator Vs Crocodile Compare And Contrast
Alligator vs crocodile Many people get the Alligator and the Crocodile confused.Yes there are some
similarities but there is ways to tell the difference. Even though many people can not tell the
difference between the two there are many differences like the alligator has a little bit brighter color
on their skin. One of the main ways that you can tell an alligator and a crocodile apart is the nose or
the snout. On an alligator the nose of the animal is more of a u shape. Another way is the crocodile
teeth stick out of its mouth when its mouth is closed. They both have really sharp teeth and a lot of
power in their bite. The average length of a crocodile is a whopping 19 feet long. Compared to the
alligator is huge. Alligators are

Fast Food Industry
Introduction The fast food industry has been developing rapidly and has successfully penetrated
majority of the markets globally, at the same time bringing about several significant changes in
practices, work and employment relations. Fast food restaurants are distinguished and characterized
by their inexpensive food products prepared in a standardized method that is dispensed to their
customers quickly and efficiently for takeaway or dine in and are usually packaged without the
provision of utensils. However, the rapid expansion and proliferation of the industry was not a smooth
transition, instead, it has brought about several controversies and criticisms. Such growth and success
has brought disadvantages to workers rights, wages and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is when the pattern of the labour shift to the elderly, as by late 1990s, 40 per cent of all
employees in McDonalds are elders consisting of housewives or retirees (Royle Towers, 2002) and
partly because it was illegal for foreign workers to work in fast food industry. True enough, for the
case of United States, their labour workforce is made up of youth too, as shown in a 1994 study that
almost 70 percent of fast food workers were 20 years old or younger (Van Giezen, 1) and most of
them have low expectations on their salary, employment benefit and sees their job as temporary
(Leidner, 2002). Similar to Singapore, their labour workforce also consist of elderly as well as women
with children employees that shares the same expectations as that of the youth employees. This is
usually due to their preference for part time job. Majority also proceed on to other better jobs as they
perceive it to be a temporary one. Thus, we can see that United States have generally a younger labour
force, due to the society s general mindset that a fast food job is a appropriate first job experience and
the fact that there s no requirement for skilled experienced employees, thus, displaying the similar
traits in the age and type of labour force of the fast food industry for both Singapore and United
States. On the contrary, the labour workforce differs greatly between Singapore and Germany. As

Experiment 2b Biology Lab Report
The specific aims for Experiment 1 was to study the efficiency of phagocytosis analyzing the
macrophages abilities to engulf Nile Red beads. We also looked at the impacts of effectors on their
abilities and also different concentrations of resolvin. For Experiment 2A, we studied the efficiency of
efferocytosis by analyzing the macrophages abilities to engulf and digest apoptotic cells under various
effectors and concentrations. In Experiment 2B, we studied the efficiency of efferocytosis by
analyzing the macrophages abilities to engulf and digest apoptotic cells under effectors and cytokines.
We hypothesized that having an effector (resolvin D 2 and lipoxin) and a pro resolving cytokine (IL
13) would increase efferocytosis than having either one alone or having neither one. Experimental
Design Experiment 1, 2A and 2B The experimental design addresses the specific aims for experiment
1 because we used 96 well dishes and added various effectors like dexamethasone, lipoxin, and
resolvin, and resolvin at different concentrations (1, 2.5, 5 nM). The macrophages were then given
fluorescently labeled Nile Red polystyrene beads to engulf. The plates were washed with the Biotek

Servant Leadership In Health Care
Servant leadership is a fundamental skill that is of great importance in today s health care system.
Servant leadership allows healthcare workers to effectively conquer challenges and promote teamwork
during stressful situations. Servant leadership requires an individual to have authority with the people
they are leading. It is a complex task to gain authority among people; I believe that an effective and
important way to obtain authority is to show love to others. The book, The Servant by James C.
Hunter describes love not as a feeling, but rather as a behavior or action towards people. As a leader,
one might have good intentions, but without following up with the intended action, the leader loses
authority. The act of love requires having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Servant (1998) examines this by suggesting that people have a need to be shown they are
important. In order for a leader to build authority, they must respect others and acknowledge their
value as part of the team. According to Robert Greenleaf (as cited in Ramer, 2008, p. 256), a servant
leader must be a servant to others by meeting their needs first in order to become a servant leader. I
believe respecting others, actively listening to others and acknowledging the importance of those
individuals; which are all aspects of respect accomplish this. Appreciative The book The Servant
(1998) suggests that people have a legitimate need to feel appreciated. It is an underlying requirement
that must be met and once someone feels acknowledged, they are given a sense of empowerment. A
leader gains authority by providing these individuals with a sense of empowerment. I believe a servant
leader should acknowledge the work of those being led, through rewards or praise; which I believe
increases individual moral. In order for a leader to be able to appreciate and acknowledge others they
must possess some aspect of humility.

The Technology Upgrade Chapter 4 Summary
Chapter Four The Technology Upgrade Chapter four talks about upgrading technology. The books talk
about educators adding technology into the classroom. Technology is being used to transform
classrooms. Even though the use of technology is suggested or required from teachers some fail to
reiterate it into their curriculum (Johnson,2012, pg.83). This is due to confusion or some being scared
to try something new. Instead some stick to the familiar such as using technology for communicating
with parents, recording grades and attendance. The lack of usage in technology sometimes has to do
with lack of resources (Johnson,2012, pg.83). One way to learn how to use technology more is to add
a technology upgrade to your usual activities. Activities such as lectures, student writing, student
research, class discussions, math problems, plays and skits, and student speeches. These are just a few
examples, use basic technology, spreadsheets, and software in which your students are already
comfortable with to replace or enhance your traditional activities. Some benefits of upgrading
technology are being able to teach in different learning styles for students (Johnson, ... Show more

Student projects that involve technology elements cannot be evaluated by paper and pencil tests, so
the teacher s ability to create an assessment tool that clearly explains the desired level of technology
skill is important. Developing a rubric or checklist of what is expected from students can improve the
teacher s instruction. Technology can add to your assessment; make sure you describe what you want
in concrete terms, use examples of previous quality work, and make sure the tools are given to
students at the time when the assignment is given. In addition, use the assessment tool to help guide
revisions, use different assessors, and revise your tools each time their used; too many indicators

Hard Cover vs. Hard Drive Essay
Hard Cover vs. Hard Drive
Will Electronic Publications Ever Replace the Book?
At one time our world was strictly an oral culture. We recited stories, kept records stored in our
memories. When writing was invented did we suddenly stop speaking to one another or remembering
facts? Of course not. At any given moment we can recall, from memory, names, dates, and places that
we have committed to memory. When the printing press was invented, did we stop writing by hand?
Again, no. So, why would we stop reading a book just because we have access to the World Wide
Web? All previous information technologies of language, rhetoric, writing and printing are
technological in themselves (Landow 218). These technologies writing, speaking, ... Show more

For these books the Internet makes life much easier. If, however, what you want is a story: an
engaging novel with plot twists, vivid characters, and a story you can relate to, you may be reluctant to
jump on your computer I understand. Stories such as these are meant to be read while curled up on a
chair sitting next to a roaring fireplace, but who has the time for that anymore? The Internet novel
could very well become the book on the go. Therefore, anywhere that you have Internet access, which
is growing by the minute, you have your book their waiting for you.
Electronic publications have not only increased access to text, they have even created new ways to
view and interpret literature, not to mention new ways to write it (Landow 223). Some would argue
that electronic publications leave little room for the true author the Hemingway s and Thoreau s that
write in secluded cabins, scratching novels on loose paper but I disagree. Internet authors, while more
common that those published in book form, may be in fact be held to a higher standard. The true
author is not leaving the picture, as some fear, but is now expected to continuously paint it. Authors
are evolving into constant suppliers of new content; they are reporters and advisors as much as they
are writers (Pang 349).
The downside to amateur web publications is that the works may not be as well edited as those found
in book form, but more often than not the

The Yama Glass Five-Cuppa
Have you heard many stories about the fuss taken to make a perfect cup of coffee using a siphon
coffee maker? It s all true if you happen to be a coffee snob (I have probably turned into one), and
proud to be taking all that effort to make a great cuppa. But even if you fall into the other category of
coffee drinkers, you may be interested in the Yama Glass 5 Cup Stovetop Coffee Siphon just because
it s fun to make coffee this way!
The Dramatic Coffee Maker
The Yama is a utilitarian vacuum siphon coffee brewer that goes on the stovetop, but you can also use

Glass break easily, either from a knock, a fall or a sudden change in temperature. So you ve got to
make sure the Yama goes through none of that. This means handling, washing, drying and storing it
very carefully.
Let s talk about washing up. Coffee grounds that stick to the funnel and filter have to be scraped out
(use your hand for efficiency) and the cloth filter needs to be rinsed thoroughly to make sure all of the
coffee grounds are washed away any residue left will turn bad and this will affect the taste and quality
of your next pot.
While using this very manual, very time consuming coffee brewer, you should avoid adding too much
water and only apply low to medium heat. For it to work properly, make sure the upper funnel is fitted
snugly to the bottom chamber to properly form a vacuum seal you can also try to wet the rubber seal
to help attach both parts together.
Even though I would not use the Yama Glass Coffee Siphon on a busy morning, the taste of the coffee
is worth all the trouble to use it on a lazy weekend, and it s certainly worth the trouble for the theatrics
and amazed looks on the faces of dinner guests (make sure you ve gotten the method and brew right
first). Click here to find out more about: Yama Glass Coffee

Role Of Reconciliation In Canada
Reconciliation within Canada
To reconcile is to weave a strong and more vibrant social fabric, based on the unique and diverse
strengths of Canadians and their communities. Reconciliation Canada ( Who ). To be a reconciled
nation means a country that embraces the differences of every race, culture and province. To
understand the differences, and build a bond based on those distinctions. It has been Canada s vision
to become a reconciled nation where a close relationship exists between all Canadians. A country
where discrimination and prejudice does not exist. However, Canada has been an unreconciled nation,
based on it s actions towards natives, french canadians, and multiculturalism.

Quebec s french citizens were going through a time of survival La Survivance where their language
was struggling to stay an official language of Canada (Unitas). Major conflict arose when the authority
made the schools provide french education for only the two beginning years in elementary (Unitas).
Their decision lead the French to consider the actions of the government as an act of treachery (
Homefront ). To make matter worse the government tried to fix this situation by letting the parents of
the children decide whether they wanted their child to be instructed in English or French. The
authority s resolution was perceived as favouring the english population. Due to all these issues the
Francophones wanted power so they could decide and give input regarding problems that involved
them. When this idea was rejected the October Crisis was created; a British trade commissioner and,
the minister of labour were kidnapped ( Quebec ). As a result, the October Crisis was considered one
the worst reconciliation in the nation.
The last fault that Canada has made was their actions towards immigrants, and other people of distinct
races than differed from the whites . Multiculturalism was never achieved during Canadian history.

The last quality of a scout is usually the hardest to come by as one might guess because of being on
the road for so long. It is tough to keep a family in this job because of time commitments, and the
starting pay can be quite low. Scouts usually report to the director of scouting, and then the director
reports to upper management such as the general manager, assistant general manager, vice president of
global scouting, and director of strategy. It is also possible that scouts and the director will also be
heavily involved with coaches within the organization. The information gathered will help teams in
many ways. It allows them to draft the best possible player and to get the best free agents for the right
price, but it helps them prepare for games against opposing teams. These three parts are vital when it
comes to winning in the present but also in future years. Matt said that the most exciting part about his
job was being able to win and being such a big part of the process. Matt gave some advice to me that

Essay On Madame Defarge
The French common people were squashed by the wealthy leading to an unjust social system. As the
common Frenchmen s oppression continued, their anger festered eventually leading to the great revolt
known as the French Revolution. The book Tale of Two Cities written by Charles Dickens, is about
the poverty stricken French peasants as they rise up to fight against the rich and haughty nobleman.
The peasants had grown irritated by the haughty regime of the noblemen. While the nobleman made
up only two percent of the French population, they controlled the majority of the wealth in France.
This caused the common people to obtain minimal amounts of money throughout their lives. The
scarce amount of currency lead the Third Estate to a world of hunger and death, however, the wealthy
were oblivious to their pain.
After decades of suffering, the peasants grew uneasy and eventually protested their unfair treatment,
and they thought they were spreading justice as they were truly contaminating France with retribution.

Myths, some parts speculated to be true and many not, have always been part of our lives. However,
as one glances across the different myths of different cultures, one can find that some portion of two
different myths can be eerily similar to each other, causing one to speculate whether they have made
contact with one another long time ago in history. This led to the question that people constantly try to
prove: do myths that have overlapping ideas verify actual historical truths and similar culture between
origins of myths? Almost all myths around the world have the particular section on the Great Flood. It

In the six hundredth year of Noah s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month on that day all
the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And rain fell
on the earth forty days and forty nights. Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came
to Noah and entered the ark. The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God
had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in. For forty days the flood kept coming on earth, and
as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. The water rose and increased greatly
on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the
high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. The waters rose and covered the mountains to
a depth of more than twenty feet. Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; men and
animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the
earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. These verses of the Genesis helps people to

Miron Dolot s book, EXECUTION BY HUNGER, is a detailed account as seen through the eyes of a
true survivor during the reign of Stalin and the Soviet Union between 1929 1933. In his accounts, he

The collectivization began with the infiltration of about ten men per village from the communist party
and the soviet government known as Twenty Five Thousanders. They were an elite group with
unlimited power and weapons. They gradually arrested dignitaries and influential villagers such as
Priest Bondar. The villages were becoming defenseless and had no leaders to look up to.
Propagandists took over homes and left families with nothing but the clothes they had on. This was
the pattern throughout the entire region in all of the villages. It set neighbor against neighbor, brother
against brother all in the name of survival. Once someone you knew joined the collective farm, he was
no longer your friend.
The infiltration expanded into the exploitation of the farmers. They were held captives of their own
free will on their own lands. Overwhelmed by the Party, resistance was fruitless since they were
persuaded by sleep deprivation, humiliation, and degradation. The people became broken spirits in
appearance. It was a silent war between the communists and the collective farmers. Dolot exhibits a
hidden pride in the farmers by writing of their subtle resistances, sabotages, and stubborn survival.

Appeal to Fear Advertisements can be positive and negative in a person s day to day life.
Advertisements are all around us. Advertisements can be found on t.v., internet, magazines and on
billboards. Some of these advertisements help decide what people should spend money on. Those
advertisements give people so many different choices on what clothes and makeup people want to buy,
what different foods are out there to satisfy the different cravings people have or what exotic vacation

drinking and driving. Advertisers and Advertisements use the fear appeal to get these driver s attention

The Food Of Biscuits And Imports Of Various Biscuits...
There are a few large local manufacturers of different biscuits and imports of various biscuit brands in
Fiji. Punjas and Flour Mills of Fiji (FMF) Foods Limited are a few local manufactures of different
types of biscuits produced in Fiji for local and international consumption (FMF Foods Limited, 2016).
Biscuit products that are being sold in Fiji market are well differentiated through different packagings
and manufacturer brand names (Punjas, n.d.). Consumers in Fiji do not show loyalty towards any
particular products, this is because Fiji has low GDP and income per capita. Therefore consumers
buying is totally dependent on the price of the product (Schultz, 2009). In late 2004, Fiji Government
accepted a competition policy based on the principle of promoting contestability by eliminating entry
and exit barriers, market agents must be free to enter and exit the market (Dakunimata, n.d.). This
approach gives a sound basis for promoting better competition and thus entrepreneurship in Fiji (
Strategic development plan 2007 2011, n.d.). There is a range of biscuit products that are
manufactured in Fiji and imported internationally that can act as a substitute for Griffin s biscuits
(Motibhai Fiji, n.d.). As discussed earlier, there are a few large suppliers (manufacturers) of biscuit in
Fiji, the biscuit products are distinguishable, there are few substitutes available for biscuits, therefore
biscuit suppliers have some bargaining power in the market ( Porter s model of

Dualistic Social Roles In Victor Hugo s Les Misérables
In Victor Hugo s novel Les Misérables, a man named Jean Valjean is imprisoned for nineteen years for
stealing a loaf of bread. Though he goes in a good man, he comes out troubled, judged, and angry. The
simple kindness and compassion showed to him by a bishop inspires him to change and rise above his
past. Throughout his book, Victor Hugo uses metaphor, symbolism, and diction to emphasize the
remarkably non dualistic nature between the saint and the sinner, highlighting society s divine
obligation to treat one another with mercy and love. By using metaphor, symbolism, and diction,
Hugo is able to shed light on a social issue of his day in a way that allows the reader relate to and
understand a misunderstood class of society. The passage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a religious leader, one might expect him to be very black and white about good and evil, yet he
is not (at least not in the way that one might expect). He has the authority to judge others but he leaves
it to God. Instead of focusing on the duality of religion (righteousness and sin), he decides to focus on
the non dualistic side of religion: the people and their worth as individuals. This perspective was very
different from the church of Hugo s day. For this, he would get a lot of complaints and attacks from
the Catholic church concerning Les Misérables, perhaps signifying the powerful influence of his
choice in character. As the Bishop s doctrine is summarized, Hugo continues to implement literary
devices such as personification and imagery to help the reader visualize the sinner s condition. Man
has upon him flesh, the Bishop states, which is at once his burden and his temptation. This flesh is
personified so as to become an actual living figure of opposition. He drags it with him and yields to it,
the Bishop teaches, He must watch it, cheek it, repress it, and obey it only at the last extremity . The
flesh , of course, symbolizes the struggle of the natural man and the temptations that the sinner
succumbs to. Hugo s choice of words like drag and burden generate the feeling of heaviness found in
the temptation that the mortal man bears.

Sex Offender Registry
Don t Be Ignorant: Educate Yourself
Dana Harmel
SOC 120 Introduction to Ethics amp; Social Responsibility
Professor York
January 21, 2012
The youngest person that can be place on the National Sex Offender Registry is age 6. Yes, a
kindergarten and be found to be a sexual predator as society puts it. Individuals on the registry are all
treated equal by the public no matter the details of their actual crime. Even though the sex offender
registry is a positive tool in the protection of society, the registry needs to be evaluated because sexual
assault is not the only form of child abuse, non violent offenders are on the registry, and children are
now required to register as offenders.
The ethical problem that society needs to look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They brought R in for questioning and he was released. Later arrested again for statutory rape and the
mother (of the girl) came to defend him saying she knew and approved. He received a year in jail and
so did the mother. Ten years later was required to start registering and was given life. He should not
have been given a life sentence. He is a tier one offender and should only be required to register for 15
years. Tier three individuals the most violent are required to register for life. He is now 42 years old
and is functioning however being on the registry has caused extreme difficulty in getting jobs and
being able to function without society opinions being forced upon him. I just think that this story is
one of many who are non violent and are lifelong registrants. All crimes that a person is on the registry
for are wrong; I just think that the non violent ones need to be reviewed more thoroughly.
In contrast the deontology approach I think that a lot of people fall into the emotivism approach.
Emotivism is a non cognitive theory of ethics, because it denies, among other things, that moral claims
can appeal to facts. Rather, emotivism, as the name indicates, simply says that moral claims express an
emotional response, or an attitude, we may have toward a given kind of behavior (Mosser, 2010). I
think people hear the word sex offender and they think the person is bad and has hurt a child. Their
emotions and ignorance takes over. The

Cultural Significance Of Teen Films
Teen films are the definitive genre that captures the adolescent zeitgeist during the 1980s, and its
popularity still hold cultural relevance in the present day. The teen films produced during the 1980s
effectively represent youth concerns and the coming of age narrative, in terms of adolescent identity,
the different roles characters play, sexuality, gender, relationships, class issues and the generational
divide. Exploring these issues is essential for recognizing the cultural significance of this specific
group of films and how they are important in addressing concerns of the adolescent coming of age
narrative. The Breakfast Club by John Hughes is an exploration and reflection of the changing

Sex and relationships are recurring themes throughout the genre and are essential elements teen
narrative. Their portrayal ranges from comic interactions to serious exchanges and emotional
liberation from restrictive forces. Timothy Shary explains the significance of these two thematic
threads: Romantic longing and sexual curiosity take on heightened intensity and profundity for youth
in the adolescent years struggle to recognise and cope with the emotional and psychological changes
(2002). The character s experience with sex are usually comedic and linked to sexual discovery and
loss of virginity, which are continually present topics in the narrative. It is is often a determinant that
shapes teen identity, as well as providing a commentary on societal questions regarding a desire of
intimacy. The sexual exploits between the teen male and female investigates teen behavior and the
conceptualization of feelings and emotions in their discovery of identity. Another convention which
surfaces again and again during the 1980s teen genre is the generational divide that exists in the
familial structure, resulting in teens rebelling against adult authority. Within the genre adults are often
portrayed in a negative light in both comical and serious ways: teachers are depicted as corrupt and
arrogant as incompetent social figures. Parents are often unseen, distant, emotionally detached, cold,
violent and abusive. The setting and

Essay on U.S. Foreign Policy Regarding El Salvador
Located on the Pacific Coastline, El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America, and the most

Obama s approach on Latin America where the United States is focused on economic growth and
equality, energy and climate control, and regional and citizen security (Foreign Policy, 2012). This is
best explained using the international level of analysis and neo liberalism where the global structure

history, political institutions and society affect the nation in the international setting.
In the 1500s the first settlers settled in an area near the Gulf of Fonseca this territory would later be
known as El Salvador. Soon after the territory was conquered by Spanish rule in 1524 and ruled by
King Charles I of Spain until their independence in 1838 (Background, 2012). Struggling with the new

governments (Background, 2012). Situated in the middle of the fresh region called Central America
this sovereign state had neither major resources nor growing economy, whereas other nations had an
industry to depend on once the colonial power leaves this nation was forced to start from scratch.
Start of the twentieth century it seemed like El Salvador finally establishes a viable government and
began building an economy (Background, 2012). Then, the economic crisis of the 1930s occurs and
the international markets plummeted and so did El Salvador. Externally, El Salvador was not a huge
contender in global markets, but internally the social, political and economic environment in El

Strategies For Resolving Team Conflict Essay
Dealing with conflict is always a challenging situation, which requires team members to be integrated
into a single, organized unit (Bolger, 2003). Conflict among teams is bound to occur no matter how
much one tries to avoid it. While resolving all conflicts is not possible, these conflicts can be dealt
with using the correct methodology. To address team conflict there are five methods: Accommodate,
Compromise, Enforce, Explore, and Postpone (Bolger, 2003).
Accommodation Bases for using the accommodation strategy occurs when working together to
accomplish goals are far more important than sorting out personal differences. This means that

However, this objective is generally thought to be the best approach in addressing conflict since the
goal is to reach consensus (Barker, et al., 1991).
Enforce To enforce is to take what ever steps are required to back a non negotiable mind set. In many
cases this mind set occurs when an individual feels strongly about ones point of view and takes a non
compromising stance on the issue. This strategy should be used to assume a firm position; for example
when there is not enough time to conduct an ongoing discussion about a given subject. However, in
the event that this strategy is used excessively, some team members could consider themselves losers
and try to retaliate. Additionally, it is also possible that team members could become too frustrated to
voice their points of view or will no longer even try to participate (Fisher, et al., 1991). If this strategy
is under used, one may be perceived as lacking assertiveness or be seen as being vulnerable.
Explore The Explore strategy is used when team members or other teams develop and investigate new
ideas together. This approach produces a high level of satisfaction since the group feels a large amount
of pride in ownership and accomplishment by all their needs being met (Miles Mangold, 2002). The
Explore strategy is also beneficial because solutions are discovered that had not been previously

Japanese Comfort Women
Japanese Comfort Women
It is estimated that between one and two hundred thousand female sex slaves were forced to deliver
sexual services to Japanese soldiers, both before and during World War II. These women were known
as comfort women and the Imperial Conference, which was composed of the emperor, representatives
from the armed forces and the main Cabinet ministers, approved their use by Japanese soldiers.
(Walkom)
The term comfort women refers to the victims of a premeditated systematic plan originated and

In Japan, infected women were killed. Their food was mixed with cyanide, their bodies taken to a cave

The comfort houses made money off these women and it is believed that the Japanese government
paid them, as most of the soldiers paid by coupons. As soon as the war was finished, the Japanese
Imperialist guards disappeared without trace. Most comfort women describe the experience this way,
Suddenly, the soldiers came no more, and upon asking we found that the war had ended. In other
regions, as the Japanese committed harikari , the women were forced to do the same. In extreme cases,
the women were put in a cave and blown up.
After the war, many of the comfort women were too sick to be moved and were taken under the care
of the American army. Most of the women were left with no place to go, as they were in a strange
country with no money, and were too humiliated to go home. According to one comfort woman, my
body s wasted, therefore I do not dare go home in fear of being ignored and looked down upon.
Even after the war ended, the comfort women were not free. Their guilty minds and inferiority
complexes kept them from returning home and they stayed in foreign countries. The small amount that

Sadomasochism Sadomasochism is a sexually deviant behavior that is practiced by many people
within today s society. It is the combination of two paraphilias, sadism and masochism, which are
usually always linked together. An occasional mild or light form of sadomasochism (or S M for short),
is considerably common among the general population. Many people often enjoy being mildly
dominant or submissive during lovemaking. They believe that it makes the experience more
enjoyable. But when S M becomes the dominating feature of a person s sexuality, that is when he or
she is considered deviant. Unlike other paraphilias, sadomasochism includes a large population of

Hypoxyphilia is a fairly common practice where a person chooses to enhance their sexual arousal by
voluntarily depriving himself or herself of oxygen. In order to become deprived of oxygen, people
usually use plastic bags, rope, or their partner s hands to choke their partner once consent is given.
This practice is dangerous and can possibly even result in a tragic death (Rathus, Nevid, Fichner
Rathus, p545 546). Masochism s counterpart, sadism, is the complete opposite for many reasons.
Sadism is a parphilia, which is characterized by the association of sexual satisfaction with the
infliction of pain or humiliation onto others. The term sadism refers to a French author and
philosopher, Marquis de Sade (1740 1814). Marquis de Sade wrote stories of people who became
sexually aroused by inflicting pain or humiliation on others. Some of his best known works are Justine
(published in 1791) and Juliette (published in 1797). A sadist receives sexual gratification by role
playing. They usually play the authority figure who inflicts pain, humiliates, disciplines, and plays
master to another person (Ernulf Innala, p637). Most sadists hurt and humiliate willing partners who
are usually masochists. A small minority of sadists may even attempt to stalk and attack their
unwilling victims. This is a very dangerous and harmful to its participants. In fact, Sigmund Freud
wrote extensively on sadism. In his research, he recognized its existence in the individual and

not second guess himself. Prejudice is showed in this moment because Robinson was not questioned

that it would have a different outcome if Tom Robinson was white, Lee incorporates a quote that

looking for affordable local facilities to enjoy their time together. We want to help restore the broken
bond between families caused by many outside forces, the busyness of life, and common distractions
that drive them apart. We plan to make fun cool again. Starting out in Beaumont, Texas we have the
advantage of entering into a place where strong family values are important. As a child growing up in
this city I remember there were many places to go to have fun. Places like Putt Putt Golf, a skating
rink that was off Highway 105 where after the skating stopped at midnight it would turn into a dance
floor where people could dance, mingle, have good clean fun until they closing time. There were also
a small amusement park with children s amusement park, rides and games. There was also a Go Kart
riding place for families to just ride around the track laughing and smiling. After moving away from
Beaumont, I moved into bigger cities where I saw family fun on a greater level. Visiting six Flags in

Plessy was arrested and brought to court where the case made its way up through district and appellate

possible economic unbalance is being reported. While the Board of Governors and the Fed Chair work
in the headquarters building, there is no actual fiscal work being done in this building. Therefore, there
will be no physical loss of stockpiles of money or securities. The biggest possible loss of assets would
be if the total catastrophe of the building took place with the Board of Governors in the building
resulting in the deaths of the seven board members and countless number of employees in the

Governors to oversee the policies and practices of the banks, then more economic ruin could be on the
horizon. Who will be responsible for maintaining the economic flow that keeps interest rates down
and dollars circulating? This uncertainty will keep Americans from spending more than what is needed
for essentials, ultimately slowing the economy, and an absent Board of Governors and Chairman to

The Cuisine Of Hokkaido, Japan
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Introduction
This report introduces the regional cuisine of Hokkaido, Japan. The food of Hokkaido is well known
worldwide because of its high quality and freshness of seafood. Hokkaido also produces dominant
amounts of Japan s meat, wheat and dairy so its cuisine is not just a thing entirely apart from the rest
of Japan s. There are many regional cuisine in Hokkaido including Genghis Khan barbecue, Hokkaido
ramen, Ishikari nabe and so on. Through my research, I find that there are many different cooking
methods that people in Hokkaido use. For example, originally, Genghis Khan barbecue only focuses
on burning and roast lamb and mutton. With more and more southern Japanese into Hokkaido, the
sauce and vegetables are gradually brought into the cuisine to adjust taste. I also find these cooking
methods are interesting, and would like to learn more about the Hokkaido cuisine.

1.2 History
Ancient people in Hokkaido are believed to catch salmon when they swam upstream. They are also
believed to use pots to cook acorn and plants. From 1603 to 1867, Russian and missions from other
countries arrived at Hokkaido but they were not allowed to enter. After 1869, the Meiji government
allowed people from other parts of Japan to immigrate to Hokkaido. These people brought their
different cuisine to Hokkaido. Under these influences, Hokkaido people developed their unique
cuisine by

Life Changing Experience With My Family And My Friend
Last summer, I had a life changing experience with my family and my friend Jenny in Oregon. My
intention of this vacation was to show Jenny the beautiful Oregon views and spend time with my
family who moved there two years ago. We rarely see my aunt and uncle because school and work
often get in the way. However, we booked a trip for last August and flew out to spend two weeks with
them. I am thankful for this experience because I am now a different person.
During the car ride from the airport my uncle asked us what kind of activities we were interested in
doing while we were visiting. This was an easy question because during the plane ride, Jenny and I
were talking about hiking and kayaking. When we mentioned that we could not wait to go ... Show

There were kids of all ages pushing and shoving each other to get into the river. I was trying my
hardest not to hit anyone as I placed my kayak on to the dirt. While I waited for Jenny to catch up to
me, I admired my kayak. The blue and green swirls resembled my eyes and maybe that is why I
always chose to use that one. Jenny s kayak was bright yellow and resembled a floating banana. I
stared at my kayak in the sparkling blue water. I could not wait any longer to jump in and start
paddling, so I climbed in. I double checked that I had my phone in my wristlet under my seat in case
my uncle needed to get in touch with me. I could not wait a second longer to be apart of the rafters and
paddleboarders effortlessly cruising by. I grabbed my paddle and made my way into the calmness of
the river. Every time I paddled, I was splashed by little droplets of water. I loved watching the sunlight
reflecting off of the surface. It was a magical and peaceful experience which made me feel like I was
in a dream. Little did I know this was about to be a nightmare.
When Uncle Glen called after us, he told us that we had an hour and that we needed to return back to
this same location. I nodded my head in agreement and felt the heat from the sun on the back of my
neck. I made note of how strong the river was flowing and if I wanted to, I could let the river guide me
without paddling. I sat back in my seat and felt at peace with the world and relaxed. As Jenny

and spelling, the factors causing these difficulties and how to overcome these challenges.
A total of 30 female students from three different female secondary schools in the Al Kharj city
participated in the study, and 6 teachers teaching the English language for secondary levels with
different teaching experiences. Questionnaires were used to gather information from the participants.
The overall results demonstrated the students negative views towards writing. The findings revealed
that students have problems in writing, especially in language use (grammar). The major findings
demonstrated students awareness of the importance of writing and their needs to develop the skill of

Pros And Cons Of Suburbanization
As one of the oldest cities in the United States, Philadelphia has been though the suburbanization just
like other American cities. As we have discussed above, most nice neighborhood, high quality school
are in suburban area. However, since 90 s, the gentrification is undergoing in Philly. Between 1990
2000, only four neighbors were gentrifying which 1.5% of the total tracts, but this speed has
accelerated since 2000 (Philadelphia Gentrification Maps and Data, n.d.). 84 tracts out of 383 total
tracts are gentrifying now, which makes up 28.7%. One of the possible sign of this phenomenon is the
population is moving back. If the city s gentrification is successful, the population is expected to grow.

The Hidden Agenda of New Imperialism
1890s was a decade which represented the peak of the imperial power and glory. The 20th century
brought with him a new form of imperialism known as New Imperialism. This concretely referred to
the colonial expansion that the Europe s powers did during that period. Queen Victoria s diamond
jubilee exhibited the power and wealth that the British Empire possessed to the entire world. Such
demonstrations could only be matched by the French, Dutch and Russians which possessed similarly
wealthy empires. Evidently, many other nations aspired and envied those wealthy nations because
their nations had not conquered large empires. Most noteworthy among these nations were Germany,
Austria Hungary, Italy and Japan. These were countries in the making ... Show more content on

As Austria Russian heir Franz Ferdinand was sent to Sarajevo in order to inspect the Austro Hungarian
troops there, he was assassinated on June 28th 1914 by a Serbian terrorist group known as Black

this event, on the 6th July 1914, a telegram was sent by the German Chancellor Theobald von
Bethmann Hollweg, to the German Ambassador at Vienna. This telegram also known as the blank

would choose to take following the assassination. On the 28th July 1914 at 11:00 am Austria Hungary

the best way to repel the Dual Alliance threat decided to offer full support to the Serbs and counted on
their alliance with France for help. Germany in accordance with the Dual Alliance treaty made with
Austria as well as their aggressive intension towards the east declares war on Russia. France in

Analysis Of Robert Frost s Home Burial And The Death Of...
THESIS STATEMENT
Robert Frost, an American poet during the Nineteenth Century, Modernist Era, displayed the issues of
realism through his life issues of death and spousal relations through his poems: Home Burial and The
Death of the Hired Man .
INTRODUCTION
Robert Frost s inspiration for his poetry derived from much of his life and the historical events that
surrounded him. American literary critic, Harold Bloom wrote in his Bloom s Major Poets, Robert
Frost is one of the major American poets...in the Nineteenth century (9). Frost portrayed the
Nineteenth century: Modernist Era, with his realistic illustrations of rural life and his understanding of
American idiomatic speech. He depicted the time period, as a significant time of modernism,
influenced by the emotions of his personal struggles. The Modernist impulse is fueled in various
literatures by industrialization and urbanization and by the search for an authentic response to a much
changed world...modernism as a literary movement is typically associated with the period after World
War I ( Modernism | Art ). Frost was perceived as a poet during a period when modernism was
predominant. Frost came of age during a time when Modernism was the dominant movement in
American and European literature... ( Frost ). This was the perspective for his poems Home Burial and
The Death of the Hired Man .

Genetically Engineered Food Pros And Cons
Genetically engineered food is widely ranged from variety to variety stretching far across the united
states from end to end. Genetically engineered food has smuggled its way into the United
States food system in large amounts because every nation needs to by these genetically engineered
food products only to keep its prices competitive. In 64 nations GE ( genetically engineered) food is
required to be labeled but sadly the United States is not one of those 64 nations. Everyones reason and
opinion for labeling GE food may vary but I t is clear, GE food should be labeled in all nations so that
its consumers know what they are buying, eating, and feeding to family and friends.
Technology has a big factor in why GE food is not labeled only because we as ... Show more content

Now being told this information it brings up many questions and concerns and that s why our GE food
should just be labeled.
Using the same article ( Just Label It!) for reference, it states that 9 out of 10 Americans support the
exciting idea of labeling GE food. Surprisingly for over 20 years, the americans that were all in for
this idea where shut down and denied in having that right. There are many pros and cons to the
labeling of GE food but there is pros and cons to anything and everything. Americans should not be
left behind unguided without knowing that they eat GE food everyday. The FDA needs to improve and
better their ways to the twenty first century and start labeling GE food because Americans have the
right to know.
On the contrary the FDA ( Food and Drug Administration ) holds their claim of saying that GE foods
are really the same as traditional foods. To back this up, Monsanto scientist have created a test on
traditionally bred soybeans and Roundup Ready soybeans, which were genetically engineered to be
resistant to Monsanto s Roundup herbicide. After this test was performed the scientist had found no
outstanding evidence that made the genetically engineered

Cleveland Indians Argumentative Essay
The Cleveland Indians are a baseball team founded in 1894 (cleveland.indians.mlb.com). Although the
name is obviously racist, in 1894 there unfortunately was not as large of public concern regarding the
treatment of Native Americans. Now, the name is deemed to be offensive, as it should be. The logo
depicts a Native American referred to as Chief Wahoo, an aspect of the team that also creates public
scrutiny. For these reasons, the Cleveland Indians are changing their logo. However, the
implementation of the decision will be put off a year and the team will continue using the name.
Moreover, the logo will still be available on merchandize, enabling the team to profit off of racist
insignia. In 2014, president and CEO of the Cleveland Indians, Mark Shapiro, had already limited the
use of the logo. Thus, evidently, the Cleveland Indians are not doing enough to combat the prejudice
and insensitivity they exhibit through their team name, mascot and logo. The team also is clearly only
publicizing their supposedly monumental, yet actually minute, decision in order to boost public
perception of the organization. This is not a decision done in order to do the right thing; it is a

be racially insensitive reveals a larger epidemic. The name of these sports teams become so beloved to
some people that they will not be able to change unless the fans realize that the names, logos and
racism present in the teams impotence to modify these aspects are wrong. Fans need to learn to

Pet Ownership In Australia
Introduction
In 2013, Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, with more than 5 million
household out of 7.6 million households in Australia owning a pet (Animal Health Alliance, 2013).
The most common pet owned by households in Australia are dogs, where an estimated 4.2 million pets
in Australia are dogs (Animal Health Alliance, 2013). Due to the high companion animal ownership
rates and the need to attend to the welfare of pets, companion animal veterinary services are in
demand among pet owning households. Pet owners spend approximately $1.7 billion on veterinary
services a year which include visit to the veterinarian for vaccination, general check up, dentistry and
de sexing (Animal Health Alliance, 2013). De sexing a companion animal is defined as a surgical
procedure intended to permanently remove gonads of the pet and is considered a routine medical
procedure that involves visits to a veterinarian (Cocia Rusu, 2010). The de sexing rates are relatively
high in Australia, with 78% of dogs de sexed (Animal Health Alliance, 2013).

regarding client perspectives on having a dog de sexed. These findings are significant as veterinarians
are considered to be the most important source of information regarding companion animals hence
play a valuable role in educating pet owners (Animal Health Alliance, 2013; Downes et al,

Sacrament of Reconciliation
Religion CPT: Sacrament of Reconciliation The Sacrament of Reconciliation is when we receive
mercy and forgiveness for the sins we commit against God and the people around us. It is a frequently
practiced sacrament in the Catholic community often helping many people around us release the guilt
inside us and seek help to solve our problems. The Sacrament of Reconciliation has many symbols
involved within and has many benefits to it, allowing us to bond and connect with God. The
Sacrament of Reconciliation is also known as the Sacrament of Penance or Confession. It shows that
God is forgiving and loving, and that every time we confess our sins, we reconcile with God. Many
Catholics participate in this Sacrament because after they confess, they experience great feelings such
as relief, peace, freedom, and love. Public sins are confessed within a group, publicly. However,
private sins are confessed during private confessions in which the sinner is anonymous to the priest
and they would confess individually. There are five main symbols included in the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. The first symbol is a single key or a pair of keys where they are normally crisscrossed
to form To 2 an X . This symbol came from the time where Jesus talked to Peter and said, I will give
you the keys to the kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and
whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven. (Matthew 16:19) This showed that Jesus

  • 2. Listening Skills Essay Listening is one of the important skills among three other English skills; reading, writing and speaking. Listening play significant role in language development. Listening is the ability to hear and understand what other people say. It is also the basic skill that we have in learning language because we listen before we speak. Just take the example of the babies. Before they can talk with their parents, they only give signs when they want to communicate with them by crying. They only listen to the speech or sounds that close to them. By the time, they gain all of knowledge and information from the people near them. Then, they start to imitate and try to speak. Of course, this takes time, the babies cannot talk directly when they listen to the language. So, this is the same as the learners who try to learn English as a second language. Especially in listening ability. Listening is a receptive skill because the learners do not need to produce the language. They only receive and try to understand the language. Receptive ... Because the learners listen the movie video while read the subtitle. Beside subtitle can improve learner listening ability. It can also help the learners unconsciously remember a new vocabulary (Vanderplank, 1988). Sometimes, the learners miss the hearing of the vocabulary because they are not sure what is the vocabulary that spoken in the movie video, but with the help of subtitle the learner can read the subtitle and they will keep that in their mind much better. Although, the use of subtitle sometimes can distract and disturb the learner when they watch the movie video because they tend to read the subtitle rather than listen to English spoken language in the movie ... • 3. The Scientific Revolution Of Western Civilizations During the seventeenth century, the scientific revolution in Europe was at its peak, changing people s lives through the new techniques of the scientific method. Citizens of western civilizations had previously used religion as the lens through which they perceived their beliefs and customs in their communities. Before the scientific revolution, science and religion were intertwined, and people were taught to accept religious laws and doctrines without questioning; the Church was the ultimate authority on how the world worked. However, during this revolution, scientists were inspired to learn and understand the laws of the universe had created, a noble and controversial move toward truth seeking. The famous scientists of the time, such as Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo and Newton, were known to be natural philosophers, intending to reveal God s mystery and understand (through proof) the majesty of God. Throughout previous centuries, people had hypothesized how the world and natural phenomenon may work, and new Protestant ideals demanded constant interrogation and examination. Nevertheless, some of these revelations went against the Church s teachings and authority. If people believed the Church could be wrong, then they could question everything around them, as well. As a result, the introduction of the scientific method, a process by which scientists discovered and proved new theories, was revolutionary because it distinguished what could be proved as real from what was simply ... • 4. The Lack Of Diversity During The Ballet World Essay The lack of diversity in the ballet world was greatly affected at the discovery of Misty Copeland. Being an African American dancer, she knew that she would face struggles greater than those that are already set in the dance world. Although Misty struggled in being accepted, with the love she had for the art, she desired to be great. Copeland knew that her efforts, passion, and admiration would distinguish her from other dancers. She did not hesitate in the idea that a she was going to grow into a successful ballerina. Despite the criticism made upon her at first glance her heart remained strong and humble, aching to dance through every negative comment possible. Misty Copeland, the face of change to the stereotypical dance world. Ballet, a classical and stylistic style of dance developed in the 19th Century. Ballet was introduced by Catherine de Medici of Italy upon her marriage to Henry II, the French King. After their marriage these early dance styles were then brought into court life in France by Madam Catherine. The artistic styles of ballet have been modified since the idea of this stylistic dance had emerged in the 1500 s. When ballet first began, the ruling strictly was revolved regarding a french preference. Dancer s were first recognized as entertainment for the King. They wore restrictive clothing that made moving challenging and difficult, such as masks, headdresses, and shoes much as formal attire,to keep the formal classical French preference. As the art ... • 5. Compare And Contrast Evolution And Artificial Selection Livan Martell PID: 4635791 PCB 3043 10/05/2017 Weekly Assignment: 4 October 2017 1) Compare and contrast evolution by artificial selection and natural selection. (Ch. 7) Natural selection is an essential process of evolution proposed by Charles Darwin and generally accepted by the scientific community as the best explanation for the adaptation and specialization of organisms. Artificial selection is a technique of reproductive control by which man alters the genes of domestic or cultivated organisms. This technique is based on the inheritable characteristics of the species, increasing the frequency with which certain variations appear in the following generations; there is a directed evolution, in which human preferences determine the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evolution has led to the approval of new species and others have disappeared throughout the planet; today, a great diversity of organisms of different species can be seen throughout the ecosystems, some are in danger of extinction. The artificial selection causes the species to no longer compete naturally, so this leads to degradation and disappearance of the species. Natural selection is the basis of all evolutionary change. It is the process through which, the best adapted organisms displace the less adapted ones by the slow accumulation of favorable genetic changes in the population during the generations. The importance is that natural selection is one of the main mechanisms of evolution, since this favors or disadvantages the survival of certain species, to achieve survival need to adapt to their environment and the changes they produce. 2) How should stabilizing and disruptive selection affect the magnitude of phenotypic variation from one generation to the next? (Ch. 7) Stabilizing selection favors intermediate phenotypes within a range. The extremes of the variations are selected against. Children weighing significantly less than or equal to 3.4 kg have higher rates of infant mortality. The selection works against both extremes. In this type of selection, the intermediate phenotypes are favored and radical phenotypes are eliminated at both ends of a continuum of variation. Disruptive selection is a type of natural selection, ie There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though many people can not tell the difference between the two there are many differences like the alligator has a little bit brighter color on their skin. Fast Food Industry Introduction The fast food industry has been developing rapidly and has successfully penetrated majority of the markets globally, at the same time bringing about several significant changes in practices, work and employment relations. Fast food restaurants are distinguished and characterized by their inexpensive food products prepared in a standardized method that is dispensed to their customers quickly and efficiently for takeaway or dine in and are usually packaged without the provision of utensils. However, the rapid expansion and proliferation of the industry was not a smooth transition, instead, it has brought about several controversies and criticisms. This is when the pattern of the labour shift to the elderly, as by late 1990s, 40 per cent of all employees in McDonalds are elders consisting of housewives or retirees (Royle Towers, 2002) and partly because it was illegal for foreign workers to work in fast food industry. True enough, for the case of United States, their labour workforce is made up of youth too, as shown in a 1994 study that almost 70 percent of fast food workers were 20 years old or younger (Van Giezen, 1) and most of them have low expectations on their salary, employment benefit and sees their job as temporary (Leidner, 2002). Similar to Singapore, their labour workforce also consist of elderly as well as women with children employees that shares the same expectations as that of the youth employees. This is usually due to their preference for part time job. Majority also proceed on to other better jobs as they perceive it to be a temporary one. Thus, we can see that United States have generally a younger labour force, due to the society s general mindset that a fast food job is a appropriate first job experience and the fact that there s no requirement for skilled experienced employees, thus, displaying the similar traits in the age and type of labour force of the fast food industry for both Singapore and United States. We also looked at the impacts of effectors on their abilities and also different concentrations of resolvin. For Experiment 2A, we studied the efficiency of efferocytosis by analyzing the macrophages abilities to engulf and digest apoptotic cells under various effectors and concentrations. In Experiment 2B, we studied the efficiency of efferocytosis by analyzing the macrophages abilities to engulf and digest apoptotic cells under effectors and cytokines. We hypothesized that having an effector (resolvin D 2 and lipoxin) and a pro resolving cytokine (IL 13) would increase efferocytosis than having either one alone or having neither one. Experimental Design Experiment 1, 2A and 2B The experimental design addresses the specific aims for experiment 1 because we used 96 well dishes and added various effectors like dexamethasone, lipoxin, and resolvin, and resolvin at different concentrations (1, 2.5, 5 nM). • 9. Servant Leadership In Health Care Servant leadership is a fundamental skill that is of great importance in today s health care system. Servant leadership allows healthcare workers to effectively conquer challenges and promote teamwork during stressful situations. Servant leadership requires an individual to have authority with the people they are leading. It is a complex task to gain authority among people; I believe that an effective and important way to obtain authority is to show love to others. The book, The Servant by James C. Hunter describes love not as a feeling, but rather as a behavior or action towards people. As a leader, one might have good intentions, but without following up with the intended action, the leader loses authority. The act of love requires having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Servant (1998) examines this by suggesting that people have a need to be shown they are important. In order for a leader to build authority, they must respect others and acknowledge their value as part of the team. According to Robert Greenleaf (as cited in Ramer, 2008, p. 256), a servant leader must be a servant to others by meeting their needs first in order to become a servant leader. I believe respecting others, actively listening to others and acknowledging the importance of those individuals; which are all aspects of respect accomplish this. Appreciative The book The Servant (1998) suggests that people have a legitimate need to feel appreciated. It is an underlying requirement that must be met and once someone feels acknowledged, they are given a sense of empowerment. A leader gains authority by providing these individuals with a sense of empowerment. I believe a servant leader should acknowledge the work of those being led, through rewards or praise; which I believe increases individual moral. • 10. The Technology Upgrade Chapter 4 Summary Chapter Four The Technology Upgrade Chapter four talks about upgrading technology. The books talk about educators adding technology into the classroom. Technology is being used to transform classrooms. Even though the use of technology is suggested or required from teachers some fail to reiterate it into their curriculum (Johnson,2012, pg.83). This is due to confusion or some being scared to try something new. Instead some stick to the familiar such as using technology for communicating with parents, recording grades and attendance. The lack of usage in technology sometimes has to do with lack of resources (Johnson,2012, pg.83). One way to learn how to use technology more is to add a technology upgrade to your usual activities. Activities such as lectures, student writing, student research, class discussions, math problems, plays and skits, and student speeches. These are just a few examples, use basic technology, spreadsheets, and software in which your students are already comfortable with to replace or enhance your traditional activities. Some benefits of upgrading technology are being able to teach in different learning styles for students (Johnson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Student projects that involve technology elements cannot be evaluated by paper and pencil tests, so the teacher s ability to create an assessment tool that clearly explains the desired level of technology skill is important. Developing a rubric or checklist of what is expected from students can improve the teacher s instruction. Technology can add to your assessment; make sure you describe what you want in concrete terms, use examples of previous quality work, and make sure the tools are given to students at the time when the assignment is given. In addition, use the assessment tool to help guide revisions, use different assessors, and revise your tools each time their used; too many indicators restrict creativity (Johnson,2012, ... • 11. Hard Cover vs. Hard Drive Essay Hard Cover vs. Hard Drive Will Electronic Publications Ever Replace the Book? At one time our world was strictly an oral culture. We recited stories, kept records stored in our memories. When writing was invented did we suddenly stop speaking to one another or remembering facts? Of course not. At any given moment we can recall, from memory, names, dates, and places that we have committed to memory. When the printing press was invented, did we stop writing by hand? Again, no. So, why would we stop reading a book just because we have access to the World Wide Web? All previous information technologies of language, rhetoric, writing and printing are technological in themselves (Landow 218). These technologies writing, speaking, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For these books the Internet makes life much easier. If, however, what you want is a story: an engaging novel with plot twists, vivid characters, and a story you can relate to, you may be reluctant to jump on your computer I understand. Stories such as these are meant to be read while curled up on a chair sitting next to a roaring fireplace, but who has the time for that anymore? The Internet novel could very well become the book on the go. Therefore, anywhere that you have Internet access, which is growing by the minute, you have your book their waiting for you. Electronic publications have not only increased access to text, they have even created new ways to view and interpret literature, not to mention new ways to write it (Landow 223). Some would argue that electronic publications leave little room for the true author the Hemingway s and Thoreau s that write in secluded cabins, scratching novels on loose paper but I disagree. Internet authors, while more common that those published in book form, may be in fact be held to a higher standard. The true author is not leaving the picture, as some fear, but is now expected to continuously paint it. Authors are evolving into constant suppliers of new content; they are reporters and advisors as much as they are writers (Pang 349). The downside to amateur web publications is that the works may not be as well edited as those found in book form, but more often than not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s all true if you happen to be a coffee snob (I have probably turned into one), and proud to be taking all that effort to make a great cuppa. But even if you fall into the other category of coffee drinkers, you may be interested in the Yama Glass 5 Cup Stovetop Coffee Siphon just because it s fun to make coffee this way! The Dramatic Coffee Maker The Yama is a utilitarian vacuum siphon coffee brewer that goes on the stovetop, but you can also use a small gas burner if you want to impress your guests at the coffee table. Glass break easily, either from a knock, a fall or a sudden change in temperature. So you ve got to make sure the Yama goes through none of that. Coffee grounds that stick to the funnel and filter have to be scraped out (use your hand for efficiency) and the cloth filter needs to be rinsed thoroughly to make sure all of the coffee grounds are washed away any residue left will turn bad and this will affect the taste and quality of your next pot. While using this very manual, very time consuming coffee brewer, you should avoid adding too much water and only apply low to medium heat. For it to work properly, make sure the upper funnel is fitted snugly to the bottom chamber to properly form a vacuum seal you can also try to wet the rubber seal to help attach both parts together. Even though I would not use the Yama Glass Coffee Siphon on a busy morning, the taste of the coffee is worth all the trouble to use it on a lazy weekend, and it s certainly worth the trouble for the theatrics and amazed looks on the faces of dinner guests (make sure you ve gotten the method and brew right first). As the common Frenchmen s oppression continued, their anger festered eventually leading to the great revolt known as the French Revolution. The book Tale of Two Cities written by Charles Dickens, is about the poverty stricken French peasants as they rise up to fight against the rich and haughty nobleman. The peasants had grown irritated by the haughty regime of the noblemen. While the nobleman made up only two percent of the French population, they controlled the majority of the wealth in France. This caused the common people to obtain minimal amounts of money throughout their lives. The scarce amount of currency lead the Third Estate to a world of hunger and death, however, the wealthy were oblivious to their pain. Biscuit products that are being sold in Fiji market are well differentiated through different packagings and manufacturer brand names (Punjas, n.d.). Instead of focusing on the duality of religion (righteousness and sin), he decides to focus on the non dualistic side of religion: the people and their worth as individuals. This perspective was very different from the church of Hugo s day. For this, he would get a lot of complaints and attacks from the Catholic church concerning Les Misérables, perhaps signifying the powerful influence of his choice in character. As the Bishop s doctrine is summarized, Hugo continues to implement literary devices such as personification and imagery to help the reader visualize the sinner s condition. Man has upon him flesh, the Bishop states, which is at once his burden and his temptation. This flesh is personified so as to become an actual living figure of opposition. He drags it with him and yields to it, the Bishop teaches, He must watch it, cheek it, repress it, and obey it only at the last extremity . When Robinson was arrested the sheriff, Heck Tate, showed no mercy and did not second guess himself. Prejudice is showed in this moment because Robinson was not questioned at all when he was arrested, but if he had been white the demeanor would change. To further prove that it would have a different outcome if Tom Robinson was white, Lee incorporates a quote that recalls the time when Tate refuses to put a white man behind bars. Family entertainment is a very profitable business because families are always looking for affordable local facilities to enjoy their time together. We want to help restore the broken bond between families caused by many outside forces, the busyness of life, and common distractions that drive them apart. We plan to make fun cool again. Starting out in Beaumont, Texas we have the advantage of entering into a place where strong family values are important. As a child growing up in this city I remember there were many places to go to have fun. Places like Putt Putt Golf, a skating rink that was off Highway 105 where after the skating stopped at midnight it would turn into a dance floor where people could dance, mingle, have good clean fun until they closing time. There were also a small amusement park with children s amusement park, rides and games. There was also a Go Kart riding place for families to just ride around the track laughing and smiling. After moving away from Beaumont, I moved into bigger cities where I saw family fun on a greater level. Visiting six Flags in Atlanta introduced me to plenty of fun, excitement, and amusement on a grand scale. Thirteen years later, in 1896, a new case appeared that would set a precedent for racial discrimination for years to come, and ultimately, drive a nigh irremovable wedge between the blacks and the whites in the south. The case in question arose when a seven eigths caucasian man, Homer Adolph Plessy, broke a Lousiana law barring black people from sitting in certain train cars. Upon refusing to move, Plessy was arrested and brought to court where the case made its way up through district and appellate courts and all the way to the Supreme Court. The question, posed by this case was: is the Louisiana law mandating racial segregation on trains unconstitutional under the fourteenth amendment? The court decided, in a seven to one decision written by Justice Brown, that the different train cars for blacks and whites weren t a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment. In his conclusion, Justice Brown wrote that the Fourteenth Amendment was intended to provide complete equality for all races before the law. However, he said, it is not intended to eradicate racial distinctions, and enforce social equality, nor is it an attempt to force a collusion of races. This conclusion gave rise to the infamous Separate but Equal Doctrine, a precedent that is a direct cause of Brown vs Board of Education. Demographics of Fairfax County and its Schools Fairfax County is one of the largest counties in Northern Virginia with a population of 1,111,620 in 2013 ( Fairfax Demographics, 2013, p. 2). Additionally, the Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) district is the 10th largest school system in the United States. Table 1 provides salient data on the demographics of the Fairfax County school system. Table 1 Fairfax County School Demographics Source: ( FCPS Demographics, 2014, p. 1) The current policy for start time for FCPS high schools is 7:20 am. Given the preceding data presented, a start time this early makes it extremely unlikely that adolescents will be able to achieve a sufficient amount of sleep on school days. Fairfax County and the FCPS recently released the results of a youth survey conducted for the 2013 2014 school year. The sleep results shown in Figure 3 unmistakably show that the majority of students surveyed are receiving less than the nine and one quarter hours of recommended sleep per night. Figure 3. The Sacrament of Reconciliation has many symbols involved within and has many benefits to it, allowing us to bond and connect with God.
