Sociological Effects Of Residential Schools
As a nation, Canada is known to the rest of the world for being thoughtful, polite, and generally very
accepting of all ethnicities and people. However, the treatment of Canada s Indigenous population,
Japanese Canadians, African American and Indigenous slaves seems to suggest otherwise. Canada s
dark past may not be talked about often, but there are three main events that targeted specific ethnic
groups which still affect those people today. Residential Schools led to major negative cultural
consequences, as well as psychological and sociological effects. Japanese Canadian Internment Camps
were used to strip Japanese Canadians of their rights because of the World War II bombing of Pearl
Harbor. And finally, for two centuries slavery was legal in New France, and in Lower Canada under
British rule. Human beings were being held captive and were owned by many people, including
governors, bishops, military officers, priests, and blacksmiths. All of these terrible consequences can
be accredited to Canada s imperialistic policies.
Residential schools in Canada were present for over 100 years and were created by the government to
eliminate the Indigenous culture. These schools successfully separated families while creating huge
cultural barriers between children and their Native culture (COHA, 2011). These children were
forcibly removed from their families and taken to residential schools because Canadians saw
Indigenous peoples as backwards or savage (COHA, 2011). They also believed that they were inferior
to Natives and that these schools would help civilize aboriginals by replacing their Native traits with
Western values (COHA, 2011). After being separated from their families at very young ages, and
given no contact with them, children would be taught a completely different culture and language than
their families, which caused many children to become distant from their families (COHA, 2011).
Since children grew up in environments that were so different from their Indigenous ones, children
often felt isolated, causing them to become disconnected from their own culture. Students were often
housed in dormitory rooms with rows of beds that allowed for little privacy. Boys and girls were also
separated.

How Is Music Formed
When listening to music do you ever wonder how it was formed? We do not think about that. So how
is music formed? Music is formed when a sound is produced when something vibrates. The vibrating
body causes the medium around it to vibrate. With the vibrations moving in the air they are called
traveling longitudinal waves. Longitudinal waves allow us to hear. By allowing us to hear, it allows
high and low pressure to form called compression and rarefaction. What behaviors do air vibrations
cause? They cause a Standing wave. A standing wave is the result of the wave reflecting off the end of
the tube and interfering with itself. Vibration inside a tube forms a standing wave. When sound is
produced in an instrument by blowing into it, allows

Digestion of Starch by the Action of Salivary Amylase

BREAKING DOWN STARCH USING SALIVARY AMYLASE Caution: You will be using a Bunsen
burner and glassware to create your own constant water bath. Appropriate caution should be exercised
when dealing with the Bunsen burner, hot water, and glassware. Purpose: Many plants store their
energy in the form of starch, a polysaccharide made from repeating units of the monosaccharide
glucose. Our bodies break down starch into the individual glucose units, which are further
metabolized into CO2 and water through the process of glycolysis this is the process we commonly
call digestion. The enzyme amylase is present in our saliva and ... Show more content on

Rising Imperialism In 19th And Early 20th Century
The rising imperialism during the late 19th and early 20th century is often portrayed throughout the
course of the book. European countries along with US were all in a race to gain control over the rest of
the world. They started to control big territories in Asia, Africa, and South America. They conquered
these areas through military force and exploration, often exploiting their new lands and conquered
peoples using them for labor and hurting them if they didn t cooperate. They used these new territories
to gain power and wealth. During this time Belgium attempts to build its own empire in the Congo. Sir
Henry Morton Stanley, an explorer who was sent and funded by King Leopold, was sent to conquer
the Congo for King Leopold and for Belgium. Once they conquered the Congo they exported many of
the riches and treasures, without anything being imported. The first modern international scandal was
King Leopold s invasion of the Congo, he conquered and ruled through exploration and deception. At
this time European countries countries like Britain, Spain, Portugal, France, and Belgium were all in a
race to gain more territory and to expand their control. Portugal was in the lead and Belgium was
lagging far behind in this race for power. Belgium was smaller country that was new at the time and
still trying to expand their country. King leopold, the king of belgium, decided to acquire territory in
Africa to make belgium a major empire. Leopold established a title as a great

Socrates and Civil Obecience or Disobedience
Essay: A Discussion on whether or not I believe that Socrates views in the Crito contradict his views
expressed in the Apology.
My position: I am in disagreement with this statement and my analysis, based on contextual evidence,
is as follows:
Although I could argue the question posited above from either position, as many have done before
and, as many will continue to do after me, I do not believe that Socrates waivers in his beliefs between
the two accounts according to Plato. The contradiction, it seems, focuses on whether or not Socrates is
a proponent of civil (dis)obedience, and the apparent conflict between the two works revolves around
passages from the Apology, that seem to be in opposition to his stated ... Show more content on

To further bolster his position, Socrates does not fail to point out to the jury that these other men are
applauded for doing such service to the city of Athens when he states, Each of these men can go to any
city and persuade the young, who can keep company with any one of their own fellow citizens they
want without paying.......pay them a fee, and be grateful to them besides (Apology 19e 20a). Since
there does not seem to be a legal problem with them, and they have not been accused of these crimes,
Socrates should not even be standing trial on what is clearly trumped up charges, and attempting to
have a man executed unjustly (Apology 30d).
A
side from what seems to be Socrates overt contempt for the rulings of the courts, as stated in the above
mentioned examples, there are numerous other examples in the Apology defending my belief that
Socrates views, compliance of Athenian law, are consistent throughout both works in question. In a
passage located in (19a) of the Apology, Socrates not only refutes the charges against him regarding
his proported atheism but summarily solidifies his position as one who clearly is concerned with
obeying the law. In this passage he states, Even so, let the matter proceed as the god may wish, but I
must obey the law and make my defense. In yet another example, Socrates describes a situation in the
past where he served as a member of the council, where his

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydes, The Horror Genre Essay
How successfully does Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde use the conventions of horror genre? Author Robert
Louis Stevenson wrote the novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in 1885. It is said that the idea for the novel
came to Stevenson in a dream that he had, he then wrote the book within six days. Stevenson was
frequently ill throughout his childhood meaning he spent a lot of time in bed reading stories this is
where his extraordinary imagination came from. He was also fascinated by the story of Deacon
Broody the man who was a cabinetmaker by day and a robber by night this is where he got the idea of
the dual identity of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Stevenson had a strict Christian background and grew up
learning the clear difference between good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of which is frequently mentioned at important points in the story is darkness, this emphasises the
idea that the darkness cloaks the criminal actions of Edward Hyde such as violence, murder and sex.
Quite a few of these criminal acts took place at midnight this is rather like in the novel The Tell Tale
Heart by Edgar Allan Poe. There are also many references to dark vs. light and good vs. evil this is
used as a metaphor for the fight between Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Stevenson uses pathetic fallacy to
create an atmosphere ideal for that of a horror story. Throughout most of the novel the weather is
described as foggy, face of the fogged city moon this adds to the idea of not being able to see clearly.
The sentence A haggard shaft of daylight would glance in between the swirling wreaths was as if the
light were fighting to break through the fog just like Jekyll fighting to break out of Hyde.
Personification is used in the chapter eight The Last Night to describe the trees the thin trees in the
garden were slashing along the railings as if they were in despair and acting out of anger. The way
Stevenson describes London adds to the horrific atmosphere of the book. The description labyrinth of
lamp lighted city conjures up a sense of mystery making the city sound like a maze where every thing
looks the same and there is no escape. Another description that adds to the

After his birth, Dwyane s parents, Dwyane Sr. and Jolinda Wade, divorced; his mother was given
guardianship of the two younger children, Wade and Tragil, his five years old sister. Wade s life
changed when, at eight years of age, he was tricked by his sister. She told him they were going to the
movies, but they went to a dissimilar South Side neighborhood in which Wade stayed with his father.
The move guided him away from the perilous area he had lived with his mother. When Wade s father

the Heat conquer the Mavericks by two points. His 36 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists in the sixth
game provided him the thrust to become the NBA Finals MVP. After operations to repair shoulder and
knee injuries, Wade emerged for another strong season in 2008. In 2010, Wade became a free agent,
but stayed with the Heat joining new teammates Chris Bosh and LeBron James. The trio has proved to

of the ideal body image begins at a young age and continues though adulthood. It begins with our
toys; that first Barbie you received on your sixth birthday; the one with the long blond flowing hair

World. I am familiar with most elite athletes in the running community; but I don t recognize the lithe
runner gracing the front cover. I wondered who, is this girl staring back at me. Is she a runner or a
professional model? Unlike most athletes that are featured inside the cover, there are no comments
about her personal running successes. No stories about the major events she has competed in. No
discussion about her training program or her favorite race distances. Images, like excellent writing,
possess the power to influence our emotions. They can create desire, incite disgust or inspire us to
action. The model on the front cover is blessed with good looks and a naturally athletic physique. She
brings both beauty and fitness to the cover of the magazine. Most female competitive athletes don t
have her good looks. It is not who they are. So in spite of their significant accomplishments on the
track or the road they will not make the cover of the magazine. Even talented athletes must deal with
body image issues. The marketing view that the ideal fit body must be tight and excessively lean finds
its genesis in the fashion model industry where many models are unhealthily lean. It is not abnormal
to see male and female athletes with eating disorders as they strive to achieve the ideal

Our Town Play Summary
Our Town is about the daily lives of two families living in Groves Corner, New Hampshire. It follows
the budding relationship between Emily Webb and George Gibbs. We see the family go through a
daily ritual just as other American families. The mother cooks breakfast, children go to school, and
father goes to work. The paperboy delivers the newspaper and the milkman delivers milk.
Relationships develop overtime and death occurs. Our Town shows the three stages of life consisting
of birth, love and marriage, and death divided into three acts. The play brings us to a town where
nothing changes much but time quickly passes.
Our Town is staged with no curtains unlike other plays. There is not a lot of scenery, props, or light.
The less there was on stage allowed the audience to focus more on the play. The characters pantomize
many of the things they do. The paperboy throws imaginary newspapers and the children eat
imaginary food. The pantomizing allows the audience to create their own props. For example, the
audience does not know what the mother is cooking. While viewing, I pictured them eating eggs,
sausage, and toast for breakfast. The use of pantomizing allows the audience create their own visions
and put themselves into the play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the family encountered. For example, when Emily and George were preparing for the wedding the

The Importance Of Kneeling
The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word, kneeling as, The action of kneel v.; a falling down,
or remaining, on the knees in worship, submission, etc.; in quot. 1631, advancing on the knees;
formerly often with pl., a genuflexion. This definition shows kneeling in a very respectful and
submissive manner. Kneeling, throughout centuries, has been used in many different churches, in
beautiful ceremonies, and even when one is going to propose. Kneeling is a symbol of great honor and
high respect for the one that you may be kneeling for. In the Catholic church, during prayer and during
worship, everyone kneels on the kneeling bar provided, and bows their heads, as a sign of respect and
animosity for their God. While being knighted, the knights kneel down in front of the king or queen in
respect for their lineage and in respect for their position or possible friendship. While proposing to the
one someone is in love with, it is customary to kneel on one knee and ask the question, this is seen a
sign of submission and it is also seen as a loving gesture. Oddly enough, ever since Colin Kaepernick,
who played for the San Francisco 49ers, took a knee during the National Anthem, to spread awareness
of the Black Lives Matter movement, kneeling has all of a sudden started to become seen as uncivil,
hateful, and plain rude. Throughout history, kneeling has been seen as a sign of respect, but lately in
the media it has been viewed as an act of disrespect. The president of the

A Bourgeois Puts His World In Order
France, as we know it today, is so much different from the France of yesteryear. About the fifteenth
century, the political system in France, gave rise to a socially stratified society which comprised three
different ranks of people, referred to as the Estates. The first Estate at the top was made up of the
clergy, the Second consisted of the nobility; with the commoners at the bottom rank, or Third Estate.
Within each rank were sub ranks, and each rank distinguished itself through conventions, dress, duties,
and etiquette . The Third Estate, for example, included the artisans, doctors, lawyers, shopkeepers, the
urban poor and peasants. Under this Old Regime, those in the First and Second Estates had more

Sherman and Salisbury in their book, The West in the World, Vol. II , stated that the agricultural
revolution led to the reshaping of the Old Regime. They reasoned that France was able to support a
limited measure of population growth. However, the eighteenth century population growth increased
the demand for food, as well as for additional workers on the farm, if they were to increase
agricultural yield . Consequently, new methods of agricultural production were employed and new
crops were introduced. These innovative methods allowed fewer people to work the fields , while still
producing far more food than needed . This agricultural revolution helped set the stage for an even
greater economic transformation as rural lands were farmed for subsistence into large controlled
properties that produced crops for commerce. In addition, Sherman and Salisbury noted that The
agricultural revolution forced or freed people to work more in nonagricultural jobs . One alternative
was manufacturing. There was now a greater demand for manufactured goods and for workers to
produced them. The agricultural revolution ...altered the ways by which many people earned a living,
and these changes generate enormous new wealth . Many people became involved in finance and trade
and so they got rich quickly, and could live similar lifestyle as those in the top rank. Changes in

The Legacy Of Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 to Scots Irish colonists Andrew and Elizabeth
Hutchinson Jackson in the mountains between North and South Carolina. Jackson was born into
poverty and as a result received very little education growing up. When The British invaded the
Carolinas around 1780, Jackson s mother and two brothers were killed during the conflict and British
soldiers took the young Andrew Jackson prisoner, leaving him with a lifelong hostility toward Great
Britain. In 1781, Jackson worked for a time in a saddle maker s shop. Later, he taught school and
studied law in Salisbury, North Carolina. In 1787, he was admitted to the bar, and moved to
Jonesborough. Jackson began working as a prosecuting attorney and later set up his own private
practice. Shortly after he met and married Rachel Robards, the daughter of a local colonel.
Andrew Jackson quickly became a wealthy Tennessee lawyer and rising young politician. In 1796,
Jackson joined a committee tasked with drafting the new Tennessee state constitution and soon after
he became the first man from Tennessee to be elected into the U.S. House of Representatives.
Although after his term was over in March 1797 he returned home without seeking reelection, he was
almost immediately elected into the U.S. Senate. Only a year later Jackson resigned from the senate
and was elected as a judge of Tennessee s superior court. Soon after he was chosen to head the state

The Mona Lisa By Leonardo Da Vinci
One of the world s most famous paintings is the Mona Lisa. It was created by the Renaissance s most
highly praised artist, Leonardo da Vinci, in the years 1503 to 1506. Leonardo worked on this painting
while he lived in Florence, Italy, and it is made using oil paints on a poplar wood panel. The painting
depicts, simply, a woman in front of an expansive landscape of rocky hills, valleys, mountains, and
bodies of water. It was discovered in King Francis I s royal collection, but this is no surprise
considering that Leonardo worked for him in France from 1516 up until Leonardo s death in 1519. It
was transported to the Louvre, which is a museum in Paris, France. The painting was stolen in 1911 by
a widely known Italian art thief named Vincenzo Peruggio. It was recovered two years later and
returned to the Louvre, where it still resides today. In 1951, the panel it was painted on showed signs
of warping, and so a wooden frame was added to the piece, as well as braces in 1970. Dovetails were
also a necessity in preserving the work, due to a crack that had started to spread. As of 2012, the value
of the painting sits at $760 million. Leonardo used sfumato to create the fine shading of Mona Lisa s
clothes and hair, as well as using it to compliment the landscape behind her. Upon closer inspection,
one can see that she does not have any eyebrows. There are multiple theories for this, including
Leonardo s decision to not give her any, or maybe she simply didn t have any, as it was

When one does not have control of their mind they are not able to think for themselves therefore

Ethical Theory Of Deontology
Ethical Theory
Deontology is morals of obligation where the ethical quality of an activity relies upon the idea of the
activity, i.e., hurt is unacceptable regardless of its results (McKenna, 2014). This idea was presented
by a philosopher, Immanuel Kant and subsequently broadly alluded as Kantian deontology. The choice
of deontology might be proper for an individual, however, do not really create a decent result for the
general public (McKenna, 2014). The specialist understanding connection or relationship is by nature,
deontology rehearse is broken, the setting of restorative carelessness emerges. This convention drives
clinicians to do great to patients, reinforcing the doctor patient bond. The ethical theory of deontology
does not look primarily at consequences of actions, but examines a situation for the essential moral
worth of the intention of the act, or wrongness of the act. This theory of duty based ethics would apply
to the issue of restrictive restraint since ethically, the action of when to use or not to use restraint is
dependent on the nurse s intent as opposed to the consequence (McKenna, 2014). Morally, limiting a
client s freedom of movement cannot be commonly applied, so minimizing this occurrence and ...

Economic Incentive Policy
Review of North Carolina s Economic Incentive Policy North Carolina ranks its counties in three tiers
starting with the most stressed at tier one to the least at tier three. The tier system is helpful in the
incentive programs that are geared towards enhancing economic activities in less developed areas.
Development initiatives by the state have evolved to be a complex mixture of programs that have
diverse structures and goals. The state administers programs that are designed to encourage business
investment behaviors through tax incentives and nontax programs including business support, loans,
and other investment vehicles. This paper reviews North Carolina s Incentive Policy to determine its
applicability and relevance. With state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the state s tax incentive programs are focused on the broad industries owned by the
government. The most extensive employment industries include education and knowledge creation
and distribution and electronic commerce. The government reduces business taxes via data center and
software exemption programs. Such actions boosted the tech industry and availed credit for North
Carolina Research and Development encouraging investment in research and development. North
Carolina operates a small number of programs emphasizing on nontax over tax incentives. Its
economic development expenditures per business are relatively low in comparison to other states.
However, it administers a substantial number of development tax expenditures which are industry
specific and target manufacturing, transportation and agriculture. It has created a comprehensive
process that examines the outcome of the incentive programs and ensures that they meet the economic
development goals. It is necessary to determine the impact of the incentive programs to North
Carolina. To establish how effective the plans are, it is desirable to evaluate the success on the quality
of job creation, benefits accrued to the distressed areas and economic competitiveness. Any incentive
program should be judged by the number of new jobs created or the retentions of existing jobs.
Similarly, it is necessary

Opening Sequences Of The Odyssey And The Penelopiad
Each differing language characteristics can been seen in the opening sequences of The Odyssey and
The Penelopiad. The opening sequence of The Odyssey begins with Homer making a plea to the
Muses to help him compose his epic of Odysseus. Sing to me of the man, Muse, the man of twists and
turns driven time and again off course, once he had plundered the hallowed heights of Troy. Many
cities of men he saw and learned their minds, many pains he suffered, heartsick on the open sea,
fighting to save his life and bring his comrades home. But he could not save them from disaster, hard
as he strove the recklessness of their own ways destroyed them all, the blind fools, they devoured the

Where shall I begin? There are only two choices: at the beginning or not at the beginning. The real
beginning would be the beginning of the world, after which one thing has led to another; but since
there are differences of opinion about that, I ll begin with my own birth. My father was Kin Icarius of
Sparta. My mother was a Naiad. Daughters of naiads were a dime in a dozen in those days; the place
was crawling with them (Atwood, 33). Here Penelope s dialogue is very much like that of how we
speak in today s society. It s quite evident that Penelope is indifferent to the beginning of the world
and we begin to get a glimpse of her dislike for the gods, demi gods, and nymphs. Atwood decides to
take Penelope s opening monologue in a very different approach than that of Homer s. Her use of
everyday speech and un poetic way of describing the gods through Penelope s voice, helps the readers
identify themselves with Penelope and sympathize with her. Atwood choose to use a form of language
that helps the readers to be able to identify with her characters in her work of fiction, whereas Homer
used his epic to establish a distance between the readers and his characters of the stories

The Role Of Islam In Turkey
Islam has been a dominant force throughout Turkish history. During the Ottoman Empire, Islam ruled
every part of the theocratic state, but after the demise of the empire, Turkey s rulers led the country
away from political Islam. The modern Turkish state has a strictly secular government, and Islam has
been relegated to the personal sphere. Although Turkey has experienced a rise in fundamentalism in
the past twenty years, the separation of church and state has remained relatively intact. Even with this
increase of fundamentalist Islam, the wide majority of Muslims in Turkey are moderate and tolerant.
They have adapted to modern life and value Islam for its moral and spiritual messages. Islam is a
guide for right living and ethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To counteract this growing influence, the Ottomans appointed a rival Sufi group, the Bektasi, to
become the official order of janissary soldiers who captured Byzantine cities throughout Anatolia.1
In 1453, the Ottomans captured Constantinople and renamed it Istanbul.? This victory allowed the
Ottomans to consolidate their empire.? They revived the Islamic title of caliph and based the
legitimacy of their rule in Islam.? Religion was integrated into every aspect of life.? Although the
religious leaders did not have official titles, they maintained a strong influence over the political

They also allowed non Muslims to be self governing groups known as millets (?nations?).? The
Armenians, Greek Orthodox, and Jews were all allowed to have their own religious leaders and follow
their own religious laws as long as they did not disrespect the ultimate authority of the Ottomans.2
During the 15th and 16th centuries, the Ottomans had the largest and most powerful empire in the
world.? However, their power began to weaken in the 18th and 19th centuries as they lost land and
dignity to the more modern European armies.? Several sultans tried to make reforms such as building
a modern army and creating a Grand National Assembly to modernize the theocratic state.? The
reforms were unable to help the ?Sick Man

The Threat Of Food Sources
THREAT TO FOOD SOURCES
Climate change doesn t just mean that certain species will suffer from the loss of habitat. There will be
a cascade effect up and down the food chain, affecting the most basic species of prey and apex
predators alike. Dominant predators with a strong preference for a carnivorous diet are arguably more
vulnerable to destruction of their environments. If the prey population suffers, it directly affects the
survival of the predators that depend on them. Polar bears have an especially focused diet, and seals
are their prefered prey. Interestingly, the milk produced by polar bear mothers is more similar to that
of pinnipeds (seals) than it is to milk of most terrestrial mammals (Amstrup, 599). Like polar bears,
several species of seal depend on a reliable presence of sea ice in order to breed (Derocher 2004, p.
168). A dwindling seal population will almost certainly affect polar bears.
Polar bears are unique from their omnivorous cousins in that they have adapted to an arctic climate
with a specialized diet. Ringed seals make up the majority of their diet, along with other species of
seal, whales, and walruses (Thiemann 2008, p. 591). Although I have previously argued here is some
hope that polar bears can adapt to different food sources like geese and caribou, further research
indicates that a diet of land animals such as geese and their eggs is a poor substitute. First of all, the
list of prey I mentioned all have one thing in common: A thick

I woke up, dazed, taking in my surroundings. I was in some sort of white room with a security camera

remember anyone coming in.
Mr. Stevenson? I looked up, his voice pulling my mind away from my thoughts. I tried to move my
hands but something was restraining them. My brain was still foggy from being out.

In modern day China, 45 billion pairs of chopsticks are used each year. Ever since a long, long time

combined into one single dish. Chinese cuisine has been full of special flavors and techniques for
many years.
Cooking To the Present Day
Ancient Chinese cooking has been full of special flavors and techniques for a long time. The article
Voyages in World History states, Shang Dynasty still used many of the same tools as today s cooks.
The Chinese consider cooking as more of a tradition because they use the same items for cooking
today and they haven t changed much. The article also states, The division between starch and dishes
made from cut up meat and vegetables continue to the present day. Even today, people are making
food the same way because what is in the food is still divided today. Northern China could only eat
vegetables and meat for a long time because it was too cold to grow rice, and Southern China could

Australia, at the time of the stock market crash in America, and specifically the time of Australia
gaining independence from Great Britain and implementing the Aboriginal Act, an act allowing the
Protector of the Aborigines to relocate random family members to white camps. The story follows
three girls, Molly (14), Gracie (10), and Daisy (8) being relocated by the Protector of the Aborigines,
Mr. Neville, aka Mr. Devil. In the camp, Molly notices a rain cloud, inferring she and her family
members must escape, as the rain will cover their tracks, something they are familiar with through
years of hunting animals by their tracks. The girls escape, and after a long journey of chasing, aid

the attack started at 9.30 am, forcing the web servers of many state authorities offline or difficult to

How Does Kromer Influence In Demian
The Foundation Of Childhood Life can be described as a skyscraper. When childhood morality builds
a strong foundation, one can reach great heights. However, when built with a weak, unstable
foundation, life s obstacles undermine the building, causing it to crumble to the ground. In the novel,
Demian, Hermann Hesse pursues the idea of how external influence from Emil Sinclair s peers, during
his childhood lead to his heretic belief in Abraxas. Through encounters with Kromer and Demian,
Sinclair s ethical spectrum shifts to the darker side of life, which he never confronts before, due to his
parents upbringing. Sinclair s abusive relationship with Kromer catalyzes his metamorphosis from
virtuous to villainous. Weak and vulnerable, he let[s] the devil take the hindmost (16). The devil

Domestic Surveillance And Coalition With The Nsa
Domestic Surveillance in Coalition with the NSA Rand Paul, of the Wall Street Journal states, How
many records did the NSA seize from Verizon (Paul)? Verizon is an enormous phone company that
covers more than 308 million people. All of the phone information secured in the Verizon Company, is
now being monitored and viewed by the US Government, which was initially kept secret from the
people, under code name PRISM (Greenwald). The information under this code name was then leaked
by a former NSA worker. Unfortunately, just like the book Big Brother s Watching, it is the U.S
Government that is conducting domestic surveillance on Verizon. Companies like Verizon, can t
simply shut off the eyes the government and they also cannot protect their users, now violated, Fourth
Amendment rights. The use of domestic surveillance by the American government must not be
implemented, in order to prevent the violation of American s Fourth Amendment right, to ensure
privacy for the American people, and due to American s distrustful views toward domestic
surveillance and the NSA. The U.S government should not monitor its people, and should not violate
their rights to privacy. The National Security Association (NSA) monitors the communications
without warrant or viable cause, except for the threat of terrorist attacks. Allowing the U.S.
Government to monitor its people violates their Fourth Amendment right to privacy. Not only is

  • 2. Sociological Effects Of Residential Schools As a nation, Canada is known to the rest of the world for being thoughtful, polite, and generally very accepting of all ethnicities and people. However, the treatment of Canada s Indigenous population, Japanese Canadians, African American and Indigenous slaves seems to suggest otherwise. Canada s dark past may not be talked about often, but there are three main events that targeted specific ethnic groups which still affect those people today. Residential Schools led to major negative cultural consequences, as well as psychological and sociological effects. Japanese Canadian Internment Camps were used to strip Japanese Canadians of their rights because of the World War II bombing of Pearl Harbor. And finally, for two centuries slavery was legal in New France, and in Lower Canada under British rule. Human beings were being held captive and were owned by many people, including governors, bishops, military officers, priests, and blacksmiths. All of these terrible consequences can be accredited to Canada s imperialistic policies. Residential schools in Canada were present for over 100 years and were created by the government to eliminate the Indigenous culture. These schools successfully separated families while creating huge cultural barriers between children and their Native culture (COHA, 2011). These children were forcibly removed from their families and taken to residential schools because Canadians saw Indigenous peoples as backwards or savage (COHA, 2011). They also believed that they were inferior to Natives and that these schools would help civilize aboriginals by replacing their Native traits with Western values (COHA, 2011). After being separated from their families at very young ages, and given no contact with them, children would be taught a completely different culture and language than their families, which caused many children to become distant from their families (COHA, 2011). Since children grew up in environments that were so different from their Indigenous ones, children often felt isolated, causing them to become disconnected from their own culture. Students were often housed in dormitory rooms with rows of beds that allowed for little privacy. Boys and girls were also separated. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Is Music Formed When listening to music do you ever wonder how it was formed? We do not think about that. So how is music formed? Music is formed when a sound is produced when something vibrates. The vibrating body causes the medium around it to vibrate. With the vibrations moving in the air they are called traveling longitudinal waves. Longitudinal waves allow us to hear. By allowing us to hear, it allows high and low pressure to form called compression and rarefaction. What behaviors do air vibrations cause? They cause a Standing wave. A standing wave is the result of the wave reflecting off the end of the tube and interfering with itself. Vibration inside a tube forms a standing wave. When sound is produced in an instrument by blowing into it, allows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Digestion of Starch by the Action of Salivary Amylase Austin Peay State University Department of Chemistry CHEM 1021 BREAKING DOWN STARCH USING SALIVARY AMYLASE Caution: You will be using a Bunsen burner and glassware to create your own constant water bath. Appropriate caution should be exercised when dealing with the Bunsen burner, hot water, and glassware. Purpose: Many plants store their energy in the form of starch, a polysaccharide made from repeating units of the monosaccharide glucose. Our bodies break down starch into the individual glucose units, which are further metabolized into CO2 and water through the process of glycolysis this is the process we commonly call digestion. The enzyme amylase is present in our saliva and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pour this into a clean 50‐mL beaker to mix. After exactly 30 minutes, add 2 drops of the iodine solution to the tubes and record the resultant color. A blue solution means starch still remains, and a colorless solution means all starch has been broken down into glucose. • 5. Rising Imperialism In 19th And Early 20th Century The rising imperialism during the late 19th and early 20th century is often portrayed throughout the course of the book. European countries along with US were all in a race to gain control over the rest of the world. They started to control big territories in Asia, Africa, and South America. They conquered these areas through military force and exploration, often exploiting their new lands and conquered peoples using them for labor and hurting them if they didn t cooperate. They used these new territories to gain power and wealth. During this time Belgium attempts to build its own empire in the Congo. Sir Henry Morton Stanley, an explorer who was sent and funded by King Leopold, was sent to conquer the Congo for King Leopold and for Belgium. Once they conquered the Congo they exported many of the riches and treasures, without anything being imported. The first modern international scandal was King Leopold s invasion of the Congo, he conquered and ruled through exploration and deception. At this time European countries countries like Britain, Spain, Portugal, France, and Belgium were all in a race to gain more territory and to expand their control. Portugal was in the lead and Belgium was lagging far behind in this race for power. Belgium was smaller country that was new at the time and still trying to expand their country. King leopold, the king of belgium, decided to acquire territory in Africa to make belgium a major empire. Leopold established a title as a great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Socrates and Civil Obecience or Disobedience Essay: A Discussion on whether or not I believe that Socrates views in the Crito contradict his views expressed in the Apology. My position: I am in disagreement with this statement and my analysis, based on contextual evidence, is as follows: Although I could argue the question posited above from either position, as many have done before and, as many will continue to do after me, I do not believe that Socrates waivers in his beliefs between the two accounts according to Plato. The contradiction, it seems, focuses on whether or not Socrates is a proponent of civil (dis)obedience, and the apparent conflict between the two works revolves around passages from the Apology, that seem to be in opposition to his stated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To further bolster his position, Socrates does not fail to point out to the jury that these other men are applauded for doing such service to the city of Athens when he states, Each of these men can go to any city and persuade the young, who can keep company with any one of their own fellow citizens they want without paying.......pay them a fee, and be grateful to them besides (Apology 19e 20a). Since there does not seem to be a legal problem with them, and they have not been accused of these crimes, Socrates should not even be standing trial on what is clearly trumped up charges, and attempting to have a man executed unjustly (Apology 30d). A side from what seems to be Socrates overt contempt for the rulings of the courts, as stated in the above mentioned examples, there are numerous other examples in the Apology defending my belief that Socrates views, compliance of Athenian law, are consistent throughout both works in question. In a passage located in (19a) of the Apology, Socrates not only refutes the charges against him regarding his proported atheism but summarily solidifies his position as one who clearly is concerned with obeying the law. In this passage he states, Even so, let the matter proceed as the god may wish, but I must obey the law and make my defense. • 7. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydes, The Horror Genre Essay How successfully does Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde use the conventions of horror genre? Author Robert Louis Stevenson wrote the novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in 1885. It is said that the idea for the novel came to Stevenson in a dream that he had, he then wrote the book within six days. Stevenson was frequently ill throughout his childhood meaning he spent a lot of time in bed reading stories this is where his extraordinary imagination came from. He was also fascinated by the story of Deacon Broody the man who was a cabinetmaker by day and a robber by night this is where he got the idea of the dual identity of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Stevenson had a strict Christian background and grew up learning the clear difference between good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of which is frequently mentioned at important points in the story is darkness, this emphasises the idea that the darkness cloaks the criminal actions of Edward Hyde such as violence, murder and sex. Quite a few of these criminal acts took place at midnight this is rather like in the novel The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe. There are also many references to dark vs. light and good vs. evil this is used as a metaphor for the fight between Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Stevenson uses pathetic fallacy to create an atmosphere ideal for that of a horror story. Throughout most of the novel the weather is described as foggy, face of the fogged city moon this adds to the idea of not being able to see clearly. The sentence A haggard shaft of daylight would glance in between the swirling wreaths was as if the light were fighting to break through the fog just like Jekyll fighting to break out of Hyde. Personification is used in the chapter eight The Last Night to describe the trees the thin trees in the garden were slashing along the railings as if they were in despair and acting out of anger. The way Stevenson describes London adds to the horrific atmosphere of the book. The description labyrinth of lamp lighted city conjures up a sense of mystery making the city sound like a maze where every thing looks the same and there is no escape. Body Image, Eating Disorders and Advertising Body Image, Eating Disorders and Advertising Body Image, Eating Disorders and Advertising We have all heard, you are what you eat ; however, and maybe more importantly, you want to be what you watch or read. How does today s advertising impact on your body image? The shaping of our concept of the ideal body image begins at a young age and continues though adulthood. It begins with our toys; that first Barbie you received on your sixth birthday; the one with the long blond flowing hair and the perfect curves that could wear any outfit. Thinking back to that day, I reflect on the times I stared in the mirror, wishing I looked liked my Barbie and knew if I lost weight I would attract my perfect Ken. As I matured and put away my ... I am familiar with most elite athletes in the running community; but I don t recognize the lithe runner gracing the front cover. I wondered who, is this girl staring back at me. Is she a runner or a professional model? Unlike most athletes that are featured inside the cover, there are no comments about her personal running successes. No stories about the major events she has competed in. No discussion about her training program or her favorite race distances. Images, like excellent writing, possess the power to influence our emotions. They can create desire, incite disgust or inspire us to action. The model on the front cover is blessed with good looks and a naturally athletic physique. She brings both beauty and fitness to the cover of the magazine. Most female competitive athletes don t have her good looks. It is not who they are. So in spite of their significant accomplishments on the track or the road they will not make the cover of the magazine. Even talented athletes must deal with body image issues. The marketing view that the ideal fit body must be tight and excessively lean finds its genesis in the fashion model industry where many models are unhealthily lean. It is not abnormal to see male and female athletes with eating disorders as they strive to achieve the ideal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Our Town Play Summary Our Town is about the daily lives of two families living in Groves Corner, New Hampshire. It follows the budding relationship between Emily Webb and George Gibbs. We see the family go through a daily ritual just as other American families. The mother cooks breakfast, children go to school, and father goes to work. The paperboy delivers the newspaper and the milkman delivers milk. Relationships develop overtime and death occurs. Our Town shows the three stages of life consisting of birth, love and marriage, and death divided into three acts. The play brings us to a town where nothing changes much but time quickly passes. Our Town is staged with no curtains unlike other plays. There is not a lot of scenery, props, or light. The less there was on stage allowed the audience to focus more on the play. The characters pantomize many of the things they do. The paperboy throws imaginary newspapers and the children eat imaginary food. The pantomizing allows the audience to create their own props. For example, the audience does not know what the mother is cooking. While viewing, I pictured them eating eggs, sausage, and toast for breakfast. The use of pantomizing allows the audience create their own visions and put themselves into the play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Importance Of Kneeling The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word, kneeling as, The action of kneel v.; a falling down, or remaining, on the knees in worship, submission, etc.; in quot. 1631, advancing on the knees; formerly often with pl., a genuflexion. This definition shows kneeling in a very respectful and submissive manner. Kneeling, throughout centuries, has been used in many different churches, in beautiful ceremonies, and even when one is going to propose. Kneeling is a symbol of great honor and high respect for the one that you may be kneeling for. In the Catholic church, during prayer and during worship, everyone kneels on the kneeling bar provided, and bows their heads, as a sign of respect and animosity for their God. While being knighted, the knights kneel down in front of the king or queen in respect for their lineage and in respect for their position or possible friendship. While proposing to the one someone is in love with, it is customary to kneel on one knee and ask the question, this is seen a sign of submission and it is also seen as a loving gesture. Oddly enough, ever since Colin Kaepernick, who played for the San Francisco 49ers, took a knee during the National Anthem, to spread awareness of the Black Lives Matter movement, kneeling has all of a sudden started to become seen as uncivil, hateful, and plain rude. Throughout history, kneeling has been seen as a sign of respect, but lately in the media it has been viewed as an act of disrespect. The president of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sherman and Salisbury in their book, The West in the World, Vol. II , stated that the agricultural revolution led to the reshaping of the Old Regime. They reasoned that France was able to support a limited measure of population growth. However, the eighteenth century population growth increased the demand for food, as well as for additional workers on the farm, if they were to increase agricultural yield . Consequently, new methods of agricultural production were employed and new crops were introduced. These innovative methods allowed fewer people to work the fields , while still producing far more food than needed . This agricultural revolution helped set the stage for an even greater economic transformation as rural lands were farmed for subsistence into large controlled properties that produced crops for commerce. In addition, Sherman and Salisbury noted that The agricultural revolution forced or freed people to work more in nonagricultural jobs . One alternative was manufacturing. There was now a greater demand for manufactured goods and for workers to produced them. • 15. The Mona Lisa By Leonardo Da Vinci One of the world s most famous paintings is the Mona Lisa. It was created by the Renaissance s most highly praised artist, Leonardo da Vinci, in the years 1503 to 1506. Leonardo worked on this painting while he lived in Florence, Italy, and it is made using oil paints on a poplar wood panel. The painting depicts, simply, a woman in front of an expansive landscape of rocky hills, valleys, mountains, and bodies of water. It was discovered in King Francis I s royal collection, but this is no surprise considering that Leonardo worked for him in France from 1516 up until Leonardo s death in 1519. It was transported to the Louvre, which is a museum in Paris, France. The painting was stolen in 1911 by a widely known Italian art thief named Vincenzo Peruggio. It was recovered two years later and returned to the Louvre, where it still resides today. In 1951, the panel it was painted on showed signs of warping, and so a wooden frame was added to the piece, as well as braces in 1970. Dovetails were also a necessity in preserving the work, due to a crack that had started to spread. As of 2012, the value of the painting sits at $760 million. Leonardo used sfumato to create the fine shading of Mona Lisa s clothes and hair, as well as using it to compliment the landscape behind her. Upon closer inspection, one can see that she does not have any eyebrows. There are multiple theories for this, including Leonardo s decision to not give her any, or maybe she simply didn t have any, as it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ethical Theory Of Deontology Ethical Theory Deontology is morals of obligation where the ethical quality of an activity relies upon the idea of the activity, i.e., hurt is unacceptable regardless of its results (McKenna, 2014). This idea was presented by a philosopher, Immanuel Kant and subsequently broadly alluded as Kantian deontology. The choice of deontology might be proper for an individual, however, do not really create a decent result for the general public (McKenna, 2014). The specialist understanding connection or relationship is by nature, deontology rehearse is broken, the setting of restorative carelessness emerges. There will be a cascade effect up and down the food chain, affecting the most basic species of prey and apex predators alike. Dominant predators with a strong preference for a carnivorous diet are arguably more vulnerable to destruction of their environments. If the prey population suffers, it directly affects the survival of the predators that depend on them. Polar bears have an especially focused diet, and seals are their prefered prey. Interestingly, the milk produced by polar bear mothers is more similar to that of pinnipeds (seals) than it is to milk of most terrestrial mammals (Amstrup, 599). Like polar bears, several species of seal depend on a reliable presence of sea ice in order to breed (Derocher 2004, p. 168). A dwindling seal population will almost certainly affect polar bears. Polar bears are unique from their omnivorous cousins in that they have adapted to an arctic climate with a specialized diet. Ringed seals make up the majority of their diet, along with other species of seal, whales, and walruses (Thiemann 2008, p. 591). Although I have previously argued here is some hope that polar bears can adapt to different food sources like geese and caribou, further research indicates that a diet of land animals such as geese and their eggs is a poor substitute.
