The Evolution Of Higher Education
The Evolution of Higher Education Higher education has continued to evolve just as society has in its
accessibility and purpose in surviving its students. In Mark Edmundson s On the uses of a liberal
education: 1. as lite entertainment for bored college students, he discusses how consumer culture has
turned every aspect of higher education into a buyer s market which students feed into. William
Deresiewicz s The Neoliberal Arts: How college sold its should to the market expands on this idea
from the 90 s through a modern interpretation. Deresiewicz uses the term neoliberalism to discuss how
universities are at fault for succumbing to societal influences of ideals based on monetary value.
Deresiewicz s definition of neoliberalism expands on Edmundson s prior ideas of consumer culture,
yet challenges the latter in the role of college students in a market based university culture. When
Deresiewicz speaks of neoliberalism, it is a critique of the modern culture and how it affects the
priorities of higher education in this age. He states that, Neoliberalism is an ideology that reduces all
values to money values... The purpose of education in a neoliberal age is to produce producers
(Deresiewicz 3). In this sense, neoliberalism is about creating students, teachers, and effectively an
educational market, that will continue to influence society into creating more individuals focused on
keeping the wheel of consumerism turning. This process will continue to make more money

Three Years She Grew And There Will Come Soft Rain
Most people never understand the importance of literary devices. In almost every poem these devices
are used portray things in different ways. In most poems you can see similarities through the literary
devices used by the author. The three poems, Three Years She Grew by William Wordsworth, There
Will Come Soft Rain by Sara Teasdale, and The Sound of Night by Maxine Kumin, the only similarity
to the common eye is nature, but if the reader analyses more in depth, they will be able to see they all
use literary devices to explain how humans interact and balance powers differently throughout their
coexistence with nature. In the first poem, Three Years She Grew , nature is like an overprotecting
mother figure. Nature has all the power over this young girl and uses this power to shape her into a
beautiful young women. The quote, And beauty born of murmuring sound Shall pass into her face
shows how nature gave the gift of beauty to this girl, because nature cares deeply for her like a mother
would (Wordsword29 30). The main literary device that Wordsworth uses metaphors, he is
metaphorically using nature as a mother figure. This is also represented in the lines ... Show more

Kumin describes nature as alive and noisy at night and more calm and peaceful during the day. One of
the lines that shows this is, Wide lipped, noisy as ducks, drunk on the boozy black, gloating chink
chunk , the author uses onomatopoeia to create a vivid atmosphere of sounds. In this poem, unlike the
other, humans and nature have a balanced relationship where they live in harmony together. They live
in peace with no overpowering side that wants to control the other. Maxine Kumin uses the devices
like onomatopoeia and imagery to display a sense of unison between the humans and nature, showing
how the power of literary devices can create any type of relationship depending on how the author
applies

Rizwan Alternate Ending
Can I open the window? So fixated on the interrogation, Razaa s question made Ally jump. Rizwan
waved his consent and continued. I have heard a version of the story. Maybe you can tell me if this is
accurate. The morning sun spread across the room the instant the drapes behind her pulled apart.
Razaa, he said. You were there when my son died. No? When the door slid open, a much needed
breeze wound through the room, cooling them off. Yes, sir. He smiled at the man behind Ally. Wassim
tells me you heard her confess to killing him. Ally s body stilled as she braced herself.
Since the conversation was in English, Wassim sat rigid watching the interaction. At the mention of
his name, he rose to his feet. She is a liar. Don t believe anything she says. ... Show more content on

She leaned back on the sofa and waited. A gust of wind sped over her head. A second later, a red hole
appeared on Rizwan s forehead. His eyes widened, and he reached forward as he fell back onto his
guard behind him. The pair landed on the floor. The only sound she heard was her own breathing as
she waited for them to move. Blood trickled from them creating a puddle on the ground. In stunned
silence, she watched the red pool of liquid widen. Someone grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the
floor. When she tried to yank her arm away, Razaa sandwiched her hand between his two palms.
Please, Sara Mommy. Trust me, he mouthed. Before he was done, the room erupted in screams.
Shariff was on his feet, his hand on his head. His body shook as he called for the men to come. While
she and Razaa crouched in the corner where the sliding glass and wall met, he ran to the hallway door.
The same gust of air sliced through the room a second time. Shariff fell forward. His body slammed

Sweat Lodge Research Paper
Indigenous individuals have many holistic approaches to healing which includes ceremonies, rituals
and herbal remedies to cure their disease or illness. Through this holistic approach, the healer tries to
connect the individual s body to the environment so that they can be cured mentally, physically,
emotionally and spiritually. Every indigenous people manages to find the balance within themselves
and the nature. The indigenous people practices the non westernized medicalization, just like the
Ayuverdic medicine. It all contains natural ingredients of herbs, where it will be applied on the
affected area and used within the ceremony of healing. Throughout this essay, I will be focusing on
one of the indigenous healing practices, the sweat lodge. I will be giving the history of how the sweat
lodge came into existence, what is a sweat lodge, how the sweat lodge works and what it is being
practiced for.

A sweat lodge is a home to many individuals, where a sacred commitment is made to the energy of
mother earth (Heart, 2001). This place is where the individual can be reborn and be cleansed with
balance (Heart, 2001). Individuals comes together as a whole to form a group, where they let out their
spirits to mingle with one another to create an opening in order for them to move around freely (Heart,
2001). The sweat lodge is not a place for many individuals who can come in to pretend to be a shaman
(Heart, 2001). It is not right for people to think that the ceremony can be practiced through a book and
cannot take the advantage to eat, drink, dance and do drugs (Heart, 2001). Also the sweat lodge, does
not charge people to be in part of the ceremony but instead, takes donations and offerings for the

in the second match against Jarvis Christian, she now has 980 for her career which ties her for fourth
in the career annals with Danielle Bochat (2005 07). Savanah Stutts led LeTourneau with 12 kills. In
the second match of the day, Centenary exerted its control early in the first two sets to beat Jarvis
Christian in three. In set one, a service error put Lawson on serve up 3 1. An attack error, a Lawson

Throughout This Semester I Have Learned A Lot From Family
Throughout this semester I have learned a lot from Family Relationships and Gender Roles. Although
I have been fortunate to have very healthy and happy relationships in my life there is one past
relationship I was a part of that was very toxic. It was with my ex boyfriend of two years. Although
the relationship ended over a year ago I feel as if the material we have discussed in class has in a way,
provided some final closure for me. There have been many times in class when I have thought Wow!
Now, I can understand why that relationship wasn t successful. I can also admit that I have learned
more about myself and the things I may have done that hindered the relationship. In order to analyze

Even looking back on the relationship I still can confidently say we communicated very well in the
early stages of the relationship. I felt comfortable communicating with him about small conflicts or
any of my wants and needs and I truly believe he felt the same way. Our communication didn t seem
to be an issue until after the first cheating incident. I think that this is because up until the cheating
incident I had no reason to suspect he was not telling me things and I never felt a secretive or flighty
vibe from him. After being cheated on I can admit that my communication skills with him started to
change. Within one day everything had changed. I had not fallen out of love but instead of a sincere
love it felt more like a constant sting to the heart whenever I thought of what he had done to me. I
found myself bouncing back in forth between emotions of extreme hurt, anger, and self pity.
Dr. Thompson talked to the class about the Four Horseman which are danger signals in a relationship.
I realized that I could identify each of these danger signals within my past relationship. After being
cheated on I think I subconsciously felt the need to make him feel the same pain that he had put me
through. I used criticism as a way to make small jabs at him and tear him down. I knew I was able to

History of Kickboxing Martial Arts
Fighting Is Art Since the dawn of time, man has had to fight for one reason or another. There has been
war using weapons, sword fights between individuals, and then there are modern day wars battled out
in the cage. Kickboxing has had many uses in the past, but it is one of the most popular sports in today
s culture. It is a very useful skill to learn. There is no mistake that martial arts are dangerous, but if
properly taught, a perfectly disciplined warrior will be a result. Warrior may not have the same
meaning as it used to, but fighters are as close to a warrior as possible in modern time. Trained fighters
are always toughened mentally and physically to a near superhuman extent. Bones are hardened,
muscles are developed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Prachao Sua would disguise himself as a commoner and fight in village events. He was forced to
disguise himself because everyone in Thailand respected their king so much, that no person would
participate in fighting him. Another type of kickboxing with an opulent history is Taekwondo; this
form is a fighting style almost strictly dependent on using the legs to strike your opponent in spinning
and jumping motions. This style evolved from other martial arts styles that dated back to 50 B.C;
evidence of this was found on cave walls in the form of paintings ( General Taekwondo Information
History ). Taekwondo basically evolved from a military fighting method and popular sport called Soo
Bakh Do. Soo Bakh Do was used by athletes and militants in combat and training during the Koryo

Taekwondo Information History. ). Taekwondo practiced today is an evolution of many oriental
martial arts, and fighting styles that were used long ago, but with a more modern spin to it. Most
taekwondo instructors incorporate their own techniques in their teachings, which is not uncommon in
fight training. Coaches have been revolutionizing martial arts fighting styles ever since the world s
first intelligent skirmish. Taekwondo got its name from the old Korean martial arts style, Tae Kyon
because its focus was on using the legs as a weapon to pummel the enemies into

Hillary Clinton s Influence On American Politics
For the last 12 months America has been experiencing a liberal/progressive revolution. People all over
the country have been uniting behind Bernie Sanders and his cause to end the corruption in
Washington and restore the democratic power to the American people.
When Sanders, a relatively unknown, small state senator of Vermont officially announced on May 26,
2015 that he was running for the presidency, the media coverage was relatively scarce. For years the
Democratic National Committee (DNC) led by the former co chairman for Hillary Clinton s 2008
presidential campaign and mainstream media had assumed Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic
nominee. According to these pundits, Hillary was, due to her experience, recognisability, and vast
amount of donor money, considered to be the ideal candidate for the Democratic Party.
Therefore, as Sanders started surging in the polls prior to the initial state primary elections surpassing
Hillary in New Hampshire and keeping it close in Iowa, the bias of ... Show more content on

125000 dollars, this was seen as a compromise between Sander s completely free alternative and the
one Clinton proposed last year, which would force parents to contribute as much of their own money

Essay on ‘Making History’ by Brian Friel.
Making History by Brian Friel.
In this essay the author examines the extent to which Is the character of Hugh O Neill is more
influenced by private feelings or by public duty.
In Brian Friels play Making History the reader wonders whether the character of Hugh O Neill is more
influenced by private feelings or public duty. By private feeling s I mean beliefs, private views and
opinions and his public duty is his obligations to the Irish people. It should be noted that Friels
portrayal of the character O Neill caused great controversy amongst readers. The strong Irish man O

This was to represent O Neill in his later life. O Neill ends his speech about England with that trivial
little hurt, that single failure in years of courtesy has pulled relentlessly in the corner of my heart.
Until now. And for no reason that pulse is quiet and all my affection for Sir Henry returns without
qualification. (Pause.) But all that is of no interest to anyone but myself.
Here we see Hugh s troubled mind. We see that he all of a sudden does not want to live up to his Great
Irish name but instead live the way Sir Henry wanted him too. Friel s use of the dramatic (pause)
shows how Hugh s mind is in constant battle. He is unaware what to do next. However it is because of
his public duty that he realises this means nothing to anyone else but himself. Hugh realises he must
continue in fighting against the English Rule and pushes his private feelings a side.
In the opening scene of the play we see a very different Hugh O Neill to what the audience would

thoughts. He is distracted as he is thinking about the arrival of his new wife Mabel. Harry is trying to
read letter s to him and tell him the current news but Hugh is inattentive as he places flowers around
the room. In this scene Friel uses the dramatic technique of imagery and symbolism again. On the

Eclipse Is An Open Source Integrated Development...
Milestone 12: Case Study Eclipse
Yujia Xie
I. Introduction
Eclipse is an open source Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for almost every computer
programming language over a dozen platforms (Mac, Linux, Windows, etc.). In fact, it is one of the
most popular IDEs nowadays for multiple programming languages, especially Java. Back in 2001,
Eclipse 1.0 came out as a framework, a flexible architecture that served as the building tool for
developers, providing a variety of accessible toolkits, private or public, to ease to process of
programming. Over the course of time, Eclipse takes in developers feedbacks and enhances its
accessibility and usability, releasing new versions with more functionality (i.e. Java Development
Tools, Plug in Development Environment, Rich Client Platform, etc.).
One of the core ideas behind Eclipse is to allow users (in this case developers) to write and share
modules (i.e. toolkits), different from the previous IDEs that hides their individual building classes.
For example, the pioneer Plug in Development Environment (PDE) for Eclipse was designed
specifically for this purpose, allowing developers to build and test their own plugins that would later
benefit the performance of Eclipse. Eclipse provide an environment that individual users can
manipulate the framework to facilitate their daily work. Like most of the open source software,
originally, Eclipse was written by a group of paid, full time developer, setting up the fundamental

The Bitter Conflict in Northern Ireland Essay examples
The Bitter Conflict in Northern Ireland
Out of all the conflicts that have occurred in Western Europe since the Second World War, Northern
Ireland has been one of the most bitter, long lasting and intractable. This conflict is based in the
struggle of one side of the community for a unified independent Ireland and the opposition of the other
part of the community to this aim and their desire for Northern Ireland to remain a part of the United
Kingdom. Due to the hostility between these two sides issues of discrimination in areas such as
housing, employment, electoral manipulations and religious histories have been rife. Northern Ireland
is torn over the balance of power relations between communities and questions of governance. ...

Although this is good news there are many areas of employment which are still inadequate and
unmonitored. The Policy of Appraisal and Fair Treatment and Targeting Social Need initiatives were
intended to be set up in the 90 s to act as monitoring and job creation schemes. Neither of these
reached the goals they were hoped to achieve. PAFT received no consideration and hopes for
reparation for past discriminations came to nothing when its function became reduced to equality and
TSN was sidelined with no real aims. Neither monitor the religion or gender of staff.
The allocation of public housing has also been an area subject to accusations of discrimination. In the
1960 s civil rights movements began in protest against the lack of civil and housing rights of the
Catholics of Northern Ireland. In June 1966, a nationalist councillor Austin Currie squatted in a house
in the Tyrone village of Caledon to oppose the treatment the Irish people were receiving. Though it
was meant to be a peaceful protest there was a violent reaction. In 1969 The Cameron Report
examined the causes of the civil disorders which started on 5 October 1968 in Londonderry. They
found that the discrimination in the allocation of housing, together with lack of housing provision was
among the main grievances of the Catholic population. At the time, housing was an important political
issue, in addition to being of great socio economic importance sub tenants were not given a vote in

To His Coy Mistress Annotations
In the first section of To His Coy Mistress, the speaker is attempting lure a woman to bed. The speaker
laments the lack of time for his mistress attempts at shyness and virtue, but he also he places great
emphasis on his love for her. Indeed, there is an overarching theme that time is short throughout the
entire poem, but in the first section, he focuses how infinitely his love could grow if time were
unlimited. He concludes this section by saying For, lady, you deserve this state, / Nor would I love at

The second section breaks the rhyme scheme of the poem. Up until this point, the scheme was AA,

Walt Whitman s Influence On Transcendentalism
Transcendentalism was a literary and philosophical movement that rejected materialism and the idea
that religion is necessary to help humans achieve a spiritual experience. Transcendentalism began as a

The Sarbanes Oxley Act Of 2002
On July 30, 2002, the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 was signed into law by the acting President George
W. Bush. The overall purpose of the Act was to protect investors by improving the accuracy and
reliability of corporate disclosures made pursuant to the securities laws, and for other purposes. (SEC,
2013) This Act mandated multiple amendments to improve corporate responsibility, enhance financial
disclosures, and combat corporate and accounting fraudulent practices. One requirement of the Act
involves a management s report on internal controls over financial reporting to be included in the
annual financial reports of a company. On July 30, 2014, the Securities and Exchange Commission

control within the company can be extremely detrimental because investors and lenders rely heavily
on financial reports to make decisions. The incorrect records of QSGI enabled the company to

Comparison Of Immigrants And US Immigration System
The United States and Canada immigration system is both complex and kind of similar to one another.
The United States is a huge immigration destination for a lot of legal and illegal immigrants. The US

United States when it comes down to immigration although the US has more. The US legal
immigrants have a green card to be a United States citizen and have the rights as a United States

Taking a Look at Spinal Shock
The term spinal shock was first defined by Whytt in 1750 as a loss of sensation accompanied by motor
paralysis with the initial loss but gradual recovery of reflexes following a spinal cord injury . Spinal
shock occurs due to there being a sudden loss of conductivity of electrical signals in the spinal cord,
since the potassium ions move from the intracellular space to the extracellular space. When this occurs
the body cannot effectively send nerve signal impulses to control automatic reflexes below the site of
the spinal cord injury. The symptoms of spinal shock patients are that there are complications such as
hypotension because the sympathetic nervous system is unable to regulate vascular tone (contraction
of the blood vessels). This is usually the case when the injury is in the cervical spinal cord. Other
symptoms include: flexor spasms, tetraplegia, and paraplegia, atonic paralysis and many other
symptoms such as a pounding headache and excessive sweating (Patient Education Institute). There
are four main phases of spinal shock. They are Hyporeflexia that is due to loss of descending
facilitation which is the first phase that last for approximately a day. The second phase initial reflex
returns and denervation super sensitivity which occurs within 1 3 days of the spinal shock (Silver,
1970). The third phase takes up to four weeks it s the initial Hyperreflexia with axon supported
synapse growth. The last phase is the Hyperreflexia and spasticity through

Homeless Families With Children By Megan Krueger Essay
Homeless Families with Children
Introduction
Homelessness continues to be a widespread issue in the United States. Homeless families with
children, in particular, undergo their own unique experiences compared to the rest of the homeless
population. In order to thoroughly understand homeless families, it is important to analyze the causes
of homelessness, the families lived experiences while homeless, the policies that perpetuate their
homelessness, and the effects of homelessness on all family members. For this paper, I will analyze
the following three pieces of literature: a website article, Homeless Families with Children, with no
identified author; a magazine article, Homeless Families in Southeast Michigan, written by Megan
Krueger; and a scholarly journal article, Exploring the Lived Experiences of Homeless Families with
Young Children, written by Stephanie Hinton and Darlinda Cassel. I expect that this evaluation
process will help me identify accurate and reliable sources of information and allow me to learn more
about homeless families with children.
Website Critique
Content Coverage The website article, Homeless Families with Children, is written for a general
audience. The article does not contain complicated sentence structure or unfamiliar jargon that would
make it difficult for the average person to read (National Coalition for the Homeless, 2009). This

the Tier 1 Capital (which includes only common shares and undistributed profit). The second
important inclusion of Basel III relates to the size of balance sheets which banks should strive to
reduce: leverage ratio puts a limit on a list of activities a bank can develop compared to its capital. The
minimum capital adequacy ratio that is required to be maintained by a bank is 8% (without the capital
conservation buffer), which must reach 10,5% of the total assets. The third basic element of Basel III
relates to liquidity. To provide a bank for equilibrium between loans and deposits Basel III has
developed specific regulation which initiates with risk assessment through the stress test. Basel III
compels banks to have sufficient liquidity available during a period of 30 days of stressed conditions.
Under these circumstances only half serves to reimburse the bank and the bank is expected to inject
the other 50% in the economy by granting new loans. Thus, loans with a maturity of 50% leave the
bank once more. For deposits, Basel III states that the first group, individuals, and SMEs, leave the
bank at the rate of 5% to 10% during the stress test. While for bank deposits, it is 100%. For

The Legend Of Robin Hood In Anglo-Saxon Lore
The legend of Robin Hood in Anglo Saxon lore represents the people s hero. The histories and other
few writings focused on the great deeds of high kings, lords and knights; English folk lore gave little
attention to the commoner. That is with the notable exception of the yeoman Robin Hood. English
peasants heard the tale of Robin Hood s charismatic rebellion against strict hierarchy and rejoiced.
Robin was the original rebel, the original adventurer, and the hero all Englishmen identified with. For
this reason, Robin Hood has remained a key figure in the collective mythos of the English and of their
cultural children. To understand the importance of Robin Hood and his adventures, one must first
appreciate the extremely mundane lives of the typical English peasant farmer. Born into duty and
loyalty, calcified feudalism forced the serfs to work the land on which they were born for little profit
and gain for a lifetime. Most were illiterate, uneducated, and highly provincial. A serf s purpose was to
remain loyal to his lord and to toil obediently farming the land until death. Even the prospect of
climbing into nobility oneself was impossible. God had made serfs into serfs and lords into lords. To
rebel against one s station in life was to rebel against God. In other words, serfs had nothing to strive
for in the socioeconomic order of medieval England. These fettered minds gave birth to a hero that
captured the hopes and dreams that themselves they could never achieve. The

While I Fully Believe That It Is Important To Understand
While I fully believe that it is important to understand what happens in the past, I believe that what we
experience in the present is just as important. Throughout the semester this class, values and ethics,
has helped me to understand not only the actions of myself, but the actions of those around me in the
past as well. This class has taught me what it means to have values and morals, as well as how
important it is to accept the values and morals of others. Meeting and being around people who had
different morals and values than I did, is something that I have never really been around, so this class
was both positive and negative for me. Growing up in East Tennessee has always been a dream come

Religion to many people, myself included, is the basis of who they are. Jong explains the role of
religious leaders, within a person s value system. Over the course of this semester, I have leaned on
my religious views to get me through, each morning before class, I sit in my car and read my bible.
Then, coming into class, I apply my religious thoughts to the topic of the day, it is amazing just how
much that alone changed my views.
Throughout the semester, my values have not really been altered that much. I have however, accepted
people s opinions that are way different from mine. I have heard numerous people talk about why they
think like they do and where they get their morals from. There have been many times that the people
that are in my group, or sit around me have said things that I do not agree with at all, but instead of
arguing, I listened. While I did not agree with them, in some instances I agreed with their reasoning
behind things, and I think that is important. I think this class is a lot about learning that everyone is not
the same, and that everyone is always going to have a differnt opinion than you do, and for the first
time I think that is ok.
This course has defiantly taught me a lot about stereotype, not just that I have but that everyone else
around me has as well. Coming into the class, I never expected it to be like it has been. I expected it to
just be lectures from a book, but this class

This article looks at a company that was experiencing unprofitable growth and weak cash flow
activity. The authors examine how an ABC method allowed the company to become more
competitive, to look at their current product mix and product lines, and ultimately, to improve cash
flow and product profitability.
Discussion Questions 1. Why for any manufacturer is proper inventory management important? 2.
What are the elements of an ABC system? 3. What is a cost objective? 4. Why are duration drives
used in an ABC system? 5. What internal factors limit the ABC model s ability to influence the

The Snow Ski An Artefact
The Snow ski an artefact in which today we take for granted. This essay will be focussed on
comparing two eras, the medieval ages and today. These two time periods are selected to help depict
the skis relevance towards material in culture. Material culture is best defined as objects which
contribute towards our cultural and social wellbeing whether it s a family emblem or a product
consumed by the masses. It is artefacts from historical periods their designs and how they impact our
lives. There will be a review on the functionality and the cultural importance of the ski and a reflection
of concerns of consumerism and social wellbeing. Personal and contextual information will clarify the
defining moment of the skis transition from its origin. This essay will not be a historical timeline,
instead it will indicate how the snow ski, as an artefact, has been stripped from its original purpose of
transportation, and transformed into one of the world s most extreme and luxurious Sports.
Extreme sport: a sport involving great danger, an activity which pushes the boundaries of human s
physicality (Oxford University Press, 2015). Today skiing is considered as one of the world s most
extreme sports as the skier exhausts their body, challenging the execution of turns at an average speed
of 46.7kmh (Johnson, 2005). The latest technology and engineering in ski development, is focussed on

Child Beauty pageants have been around for about fifty five years already and are becoming more and
more common throughout society. There have been many TV shows such as Toddlers and Tiaras in
which young children are judged based on their beauty, personality, and talent. Although some people
might think that child beauty pageants are beneficial because they teach discipline, patience, and
improve self confidence, in reality, they give children an unrealistic idea about what a perfect body is
and often lead to an insecure future. These pageants often have high standards that children have to
live up to. Many psychologists have stated that these girls could often develop emotional problems

in his deposition that Griffin was a rat because he went to internal affairs instead of the union

choosing to go off grid in America today: There is no grid available, to minimize environmental
impact of the grid and leave a smaller carbon footprint, to avoid utility costs, saving money by
lowering bills, emergency insurance, entertainment of an intelligent mind, reducing use of fossil fuels,

There are several ways to build the walls and floor so that heat is stored in the day and released at
night. Night and day temperatures, as well as seasonal angles of the sun are things to think about in
terms of location if you plan to build a home that utilizes solar energy, such as an earthship. Dave
Black states An east west axis (90 degrees to true south) allows the longer side of the structure to be
exposed to the sun. That s where the big windows should be. North and east facing windows can lose a
lot of heat in the winter, and west facing glass can cause overheating in summer, so they should be few
and small.(Use overhangs over the windows to protect the interior from too much summer sun.......) .
Earthships are also an environmentally friendly model because of the fact that they can be made from
recycled materials such as tires, cans, beams made from recycled trash, etc. Walls made of stacked
tires filled with cans serve to store and release heat when needed. This fact also makes it a viable
option for a low budget home. Since most, or all, of an earthship can be built with what is essentially
trash, most of your building materials can be found cheap or free, provided you have access to a road
system. There are many other ways to create an off

Essay on America’s New Look as an Urban Nation
America s New Look as an Urban Nation
When the United States was founded as a nation after the Revolutionary War it was largely agrarian in
nature. Even when people lived in the village, that town was made up fewer that ten houses on
average and only occasionally had other buildings such as a school, church, or small store. The people
lived together for protection, and traveled out to their farm land everyday to till, plant and harvest.
With the advent of the industrial revolution staring in the early part of the nineteenth century and then
even more so with the information revolution of the 1960 s onward people began moving away from
the country and into the city because that was where they worked. There were enough farms to support

Two other problems with an urban society were; gathering enough drinking water for the increasing
populous and disposing of waste. When Europe started to urbanize, they did not realize the need for
the latter and they had plagues that swept through their filthy cities. When they had learned the lesson
and provided adequate sewage disposal. Transportation of goods could come into a city and be
distributed to building sites. Therefore, railways and roadbeds that could handle the traffic were
needed. Also, people who live closer together tend to be increasingly lawless. To maintain order, a
police force had to be maintained. This public service was accompanied by the need for a fire
department and public utility workers that were not as needed in the country.
When people move into a city there is going to be a division of labor that will eventually evolve into a
class structure. In the United States the Constitution was set up in Europe and other places around the
world. However, there will always be the gentried business owners, the middle class merchants, the
lower class factory workers and the poor. These four distinct groups seem to form due to natural
causes. It becomes class when it is difficult to move between the economic levels. In the United
States, people were able to move between the different classes if they chose, but it continued to be a
difficult change. The classes in the US were not developed

that success. During the battle Jackson rushed troops forward to close a gap in the line against a

Summary Of The Emancipation Proclamation
In the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, Abraham Lincoln states that if the Southern states did
not end their rebellion by January 1st, 1863, that Proclamation would go into effect. When the South
did not follow these terms, Lincoln issued the final Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st, 1863.
This document helped lead the way to the total removal of slavery from the entire United States and
the creation of the thirteenth Amendment. The author of the Emancipation Proclamation is the
sixteenth president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln who served from March 1861 to his
assassination in April 1865. Abraham Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky and was largely a
self educated man. Later in Lincolns life he became a lawyer in Illinois, a Whig party leader, and
elected the Illinois House of Representatives. In 1846, he was elected to the United States House of
Representatives but shortly afterwards returned to Illinois to resume his law career. When he decided
to get back into politics in 1854 he became a leader in the building of the new Republican Party which
had popularity in Illinois. During Lincolns campaign for US Senator from Illinois he participated in
highly publicized debates with his opponent, Democrat Stephen A. Douglas, where he spoke against
slaveries expansion. He often expressed his dislike for slavery in public and private, and eventually
wanted to bring end to slavery. In 1860, Lincoln became the Republican Party presidential nomination

In the book Of Love and Other Demons written by Gabriel Marquez, Main Character Sierva Maria is
a young child whose existence had been neglected from birth by her father, The second Marquis of
Casalduero, and her mother, a once powerful Merchant. She lives her life, peacefully, among the
slaves in their quarters until she is one day bitten by a rabid dog. Once the news had spread of the bite,
the question of not only life and death, but demonic possession and love come into play. The article,
By Love Possessed written by A.S Byatt, closely analyzes the life Sierva suffered after the bite and if
the demons in the title of the work are really the ones the Church believes is possessing her. Love is
subliminally introduced throughout the piece and the only demon named in the title. Knowing that
love is the worst demon of all, the other demons mentioned in the work never resided in Sierva, but in
the sins of man. When Sierva was bitten, the only people who knew about it were the slaves. After a
few rituals, the bite slowly began to heal and she showed no signs of contracting the deadly disease of
rabies. Once her father, the Marquis, made the discovery of what had occurred, he made Sierva live
within the house instead of the slave quarters. Not suited to the environment, Sierva never spoke and
rarely showed any form of emotion. The Marquis did everything he could to figure out how to save

The Model T Revolutionized The Automotive Industry
When Henry Ford began making cars, he felt that the automotive was destined to make the horse and
carriage disappear. However, to make that happen first he needed to produce a car that was affordable
by everyone. In 1908, he achieved that with the production of the Model T. The Model T
revolutionized the automotive industry. The Model T was the first affordable car for the masses. Its
affordability came from several properties. First, the Model T featured all interchangeable parts. Parts
in one Model T were exactly the same as the parts in another model T made in the same year. Second,
the Model T was the first car to contain vanadium steel parts, which were stronger, more dependable
and lighter weight than previous steel pieces and they could be manufactured easier. Third, the Ford
Company was the first company to employ a moving assembly line which allowed them to assemble
the cars faster than anyone else.
In the early 1900s, the automotive industry was a burgeoning business with many competitors trying
to out do each other. Companies rose and fell on a regular basis. By 1903, 214 different companies
had arisen in America to manufacture the automobile. However, by 1904, at least 84 of those had
either ceased to exist or changed to a different line of work. (Ford, 234) When he joined the ranks of
manufacturers in 1903, Henry Ford was determined to make his company work. When the Ford Motor
Company began, it like many other companies of its time, ordered parts for their

The Choice Of Cpu And Intel Core I7
1.0 Choice of the CPUs
The choice of CPU will influence the other decisions one makes about the ability to find a compatible
motherboard, CPU cooler and (to some extent) power supply. The Intel Core i7 4820K and the Intel
Core i5 4670K can be easily differentiated. The main Characteristics of both are explained as follows:
a) General Characteristics of Intel Core i7 4820K
1. The Operating frequency is higher in Intel i7 4820K.
2. The Intel Core i7 4820K is not locked , that is, the processor can be easily over clocked on most
motherboards for better performance.
3. This processor includes Advanced Encryption Standard technology which provides AES encryption
acceleration to secure the disk data.
4. The i7 is hyper threaded, which means that it can handle twice the amount of threads than i5,
putting it at a capacity of eight simultaneous threads. b) General Characteristics of Intel Core i5
4670K
1. The Intel Core i5 comes with higher operating frequency than the Core i7.
2. Power usage of the microprocessor is better.
3. AVX, AVX2, F16C and FMA3 instructions are included in the Core i5 4670K. These extensions are
not widely used in applications.
4. The i5 4670K combines Graphics Processing Unit that can be used for casual gaming and 3D apps,
but it is not too fast to run latest games at full resolution.
5. The i5 4670K uses The Socket 1150, which is still effectively supported by Intel.

The Euthyphro, Socrates And Euthyphro
Ortecia Guity
Introduction to Philosophy
4/30/15
In Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates and Euthyphro have a battle concerning the meaning of piety. Socrates
interrogates Euthyphro on whether or not is possible to have an objective definite definition of a
concept/object. This came to be known as Euthyphro s Dilemma. This argument can be clarified as
follows; what is dear to the gods is pious, and what is not is impious : if an object is God love, than the
object must be loved by all Gods; therefore, pious objects are those that are necessarily loved by all
Gods. (10a). The dilemma emanates when one realizes it is God loved if it is pious, and pious due to
being God loved; in this case, piety in itself would be considered irrational in ... Show more content

Also justice should be applied and any man who breaks the law should be prosecuted. Euthyphro s
second attempt to define piety is; What is dear to the gods is pious, and what is not is impious (7a).
What he s saying is that actions that are pleasing to the gods would be pious and those opposed to
them are impious. Socrates didn t agree with this because what s pleasing to one god isn t to another,
thus piety cannot be simply what is dear to the gods. In the real world, we could apply this to a
religion that serves one God, Christianity. By being a Christian we work to live our lives in a positive
way by what s written in the bible. But are our actions pious because God tells us to do so, or does
God tell us to do them because they are pious? In comparison to Euthyphro, our actions are pious
because God says to do them, while he says if were not pleasing the gods than were not pious.
Because we believe that God is omnipotent, we view his work as pious and want to live by his word.
Socrates points out that he has yet to answer the question and asks, how can you be so sure that your
action is not impious? His third attempt; The godly and the pious is a part of the just that is the care of
the gods, while that concerned with the care of men is the remaining part of justice (12e). Euthyphro

Essay on A Progressive Movement
A Progressive Movement
Much of a historian s job is to read what their colleagues have written on their subject of interest at the
moment. Often, they then go on to write their own opinions on the subject, thereby influencing the
historians of the future. The famed historian and teacher Richard Hofstadter wrote The Age of Reform
in 1955 about the late 19th century and early 20th century movement of Progressivism. In turn, other
historians that include Paula Baker, Richard McCormick, and Peter Filene have written their opinion
on what the movement we call Progressivism really was, and what its real significance is, or even if it
really existed as a movement in its own right. Richard Hofstadter s book The Age of Reform was ...

Filene defines a movement as a collectivity acting with some continuity to promote or resist a change
in the society...one can then analyze its internal characteristics along four dimensions: program, the
values which underlie this program, membership and supporters (20 21). Filene finds the program of a
social movement the most important part, for without a program the movement will be unable to
sustain itself. His most convincing point is that on so many issues, the Progressives, supposedly a
defined and cohesive movement, had numerous splits within their group. For example, The Federal
Reserve Act of 1913 created, according to Arthur Link, a conflict between uncompromising and
middle of the road progressives. The most convincing example concerns women s suffrage, a cause
that has generally been attributed to the progressive movement. However, as Filene points out,
progressive Presidents Roosevelt and Taft were unwilling to appease feminists with suffrage, and
stayed far from the idea for as long as possible. Indeed, if a list of 400 so called progressives is
carefully researched, it may be noted that they are divided almost exactly down the center for and
against a woman s right to vote (22 23). In this way, it is clear that

Of Mice Vs Mice
Have you been dealing with mice in your home for years and can t seem to get them out? You re not
alone: mice are incredibly clever creatures that are nearly impossible to catch, let alone eliminate. First
of all, mice have incredibly senses. Their hearing range is wide and includes incredibly high pitched
sounds, which makes it easier for them to hear you coming. And their smell is very strong: they
actually recognize living creatures almost entirely by smell. Some mice can even track intruders and
friends by sniffing out their footprints. And while mice have fairly poor vision, they make up for it
with their sense of touch. Those cute little whiskers detect vibrations and send these sensations
directly to their brain. However, long tactile fur also threads through their coat, giving them an even
stronger sense of touch. They can often literally feel your footsteps from across the house. ... Show

SEC alleged that Mark Cuban violated misappropriate insider trading. To be qualified as
misappropriate insider trading, an individual wrongfully obtains (misappropriates) inside information
and trades on it for her or his personal benefit. In this case, Cuban actually traded his shares based on
the material inside information he was told and saved him $750,000 in losses. Wrongful
misappropriation means violation of a fiduciary duty.
The Court found that Cuban had not misappropriated any material non public information because he
had not violated a legal duty to refrain from trading. Cuban had not promised that he would not trade
after learning about a PIPE offering. The judge also said that the SEC failed to show that Cuban
undertook a legal duty to not use the information he learned from those two phone calls with

information. The Mamma.com CEO asked Cuban to keep their conversation confidential. However,
that didn t prove that Cuban had a legal duty to Mamma.com that would prohibit him from selling his

the villagers, Pearl, and the author. Throughout the story, the reader can clearly identify the contrast of
Hester s views of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though she often uses it to taunt Hester, Pearl is a constant reminder of Hester s sin and is always
making sure she has her scarlet letter. Although it is mentioned the narrator in the custom house is not
Nathaniel Hawthorne, they are both very similar. The narrator is carefully constructed as being similar
to Hester in the sense that they are both isolated by people whom they have no connection to. The
author feels this way working in the custom house surrounded by old men. I am a citizen of
somewhere else (31). Hester, of course, is isolated from the rest of the community because of her sin.
Even though the narrator feels he will be criticized for attempting to make a writing career, he makes a
fictional account of Hester s story anyways. Writing for him is similar to needle work for Hester, and
it is a further comparison of two similar characters. The author evolves Hester into himself, and it is
made clear that is his intention. In conclusion, the evolution of Hester, the villagers, Pearl, and the
author of the scarlet letter that Hester wears is generally seen as acceptance of her and her sin. The
author develops Hester into a woman who gradually becomes comfortable with the idea of herself and
her sin. Although Pearl never clearly understands it, she recognizes that her mother will forever be a
sinner, but is still her mother. The villagers at first heckle Hester of her scarlet letter, but begin to see
her true colors. In short, The

  • 2. The Evolution Of Higher Education The Evolution of Higher Education Higher education has continued to evolve just as society has in its accessibility and purpose in surviving its students. In Mark Edmundson s On the uses of a liberal education: 1. as lite entertainment for bored college students, he discusses how consumer culture has turned every aspect of higher education into a buyer s market which students feed into. William Deresiewicz s The Neoliberal Arts: How college sold its should to the market expands on this idea from the 90 s through a modern interpretation. Deresiewicz uses the term neoliberalism to discuss how universities are at fault for succumbing to societal influences of ideals based on monetary value. Deresiewicz s definition of neoliberalism expands on Edmundson s prior ideas of consumer culture, yet challenges the latter in the role of college students in a market based university culture. When Deresiewicz speaks of neoliberalism, it is a critique of the modern culture and how it affects the priorities of higher education in this age. He states that, Neoliberalism is an ideology that reduces all values to money values... The purpose of education in a neoliberal age is to produce producers (Deresiewicz 3). In this sense, neoliberalism is about creating students, teachers, and effectively an educational market, that will continue to influence society into creating more individuals focused on keeping the wheel of consumerism turning. This process will continue to make more money ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Three Years She Grew And There Will Come Soft Rain Most people never understand the importance of literary devices. In almost every poem these devices are used portray things in different ways. In most poems you can see similarities through the literary devices used by the author. The three poems, Three Years She Grew by William Wordsworth, There Will Come Soft Rain by Sara Teasdale, and The Sound of Night by Maxine Kumin, the only similarity to the common eye is nature, but if the reader analyses more in depth, they will be able to see they all use literary devices to explain how humans interact and balance powers differently throughout their coexistence with nature. In the first poem, Three Years She Grew , nature is like an overprotecting mother figure. Nature has all the power over this young girl and uses this power to shape her into a beautiful young women. The quote, And beauty born of murmuring sound Shall pass into her face shows how nature gave the gift of beauty to this girl, because nature cares deeply for her like a mother would (Wordsword29 30). The main literary device that Wordsworth uses metaphors, he is metaphorically using nature as a mother figure. This is also represented in the lines ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kumin describes nature as alive and noisy at night and more calm and peaceful during the day. One of the lines that shows this is, Wide lipped, noisy as ducks, drunk on the boozy black, gloating chink chunk , the author uses onomatopoeia to create a vivid atmosphere of sounds. In this poem, unlike the other, humans and nature have a balanced relationship where they live in harmony together. They live in peace with no overpowering side that wants to control the other. Maxine Kumin uses the devices like onomatopoeia and imagery to display a sense of unison between the humans and nature, showing how the power of literary devices can create any type of relationship depending on how the author applies ... Maybe you can tell me if this is accurate. The morning sun spread across the room the instant the drapes behind her pulled apart. Razaa, he said. You were there when my son died. No? When the door slid open, a much needed breeze wound through the room, cooling them off. Yes, sir. He smiled at the man behind Ally. Wassim tells me you heard her confess to killing him. She leaned back on the sofa and waited. A gust of wind sped over her head. A second later, a red hole appeared on Rizwan s forehead. His eyes widened, and he reached forward as he fell back onto his guard behind him. The pair landed on the floor. The only sound she heard was her own breathing as she waited for them to move. Blood trickled from them creating a puddle on the ground. In stunned silence, she watched the red pool of liquid widen. Someone grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the floor. When she tried to yank her arm away, Razaa sandwiched her hand between his two palms. Please, Sara Mommy. Trust me, he mouthed. Before he was done, the room erupted in screams. Shariff was on his feet, his hand on his head. His body shook as he called for the men to come. While she and Razaa crouched in the corner where the sliding glass and wall met, he ran to the hallway door. The same gust of air sliced through the room a second time. Shariff fell forward. Although the relationship ended over a year ago I feel as if the material we have discussed in class has in a way, provided some final closure for me. I think that this is because up until the cheating incident I had no reason to suspect he was not telling me things and I never felt a secretive or flighty vibe from him. After being cheated on I can admit that my communication skills with him started to change. Within one day everything had changed. I had not fallen out of love but instead of a sincere love it felt more like a constant sting to the heart whenever I thought of what he had done to me. I found myself bouncing back in forth between emotions of extreme hurt, anger, and self pity. Dr. Thompson talked to the class about the Four Horseman which are danger signals in a relationship. I realized that I could identify each of these danger signals within my past relationship. After being cheated on I think I subconsciously felt the need to make him feel the same pain that he had put me through. I used criticism as a way to make small jabs at him and tear him down. This style evolved from other martial arts styles that dated back to 50 B.C; evidence of this was found on cave walls in the form of paintings ( General Taekwondo Information History ). Taekwondo basically evolved from a military fighting method and popular sport called Soo Bakh Do. Soo Bakh Do was used by athletes and militants in combat and training during the Koryo Dynasty. • 9. Hillary Clinton s Influence On American Politics For the last 12 months America has been experiencing a liberal/progressive revolution. People all over the country have been uniting behind Bernie Sanders and his cause to end the corruption in Washington and restore the democratic power to the American people. When Sanders, a relatively unknown, small state senator of Vermont officially announced on May 26, 2015 that he was running for the presidency, the media coverage was relatively scarce. For years the Democratic National Committee (DNC) led by the former co chairman for Hillary Clinton s 2008 presidential campaign and mainstream media had assumed Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic nominee. According to these pundits, Hillary was, due to her experience, recognisability, and vast amount of donor money, considered to be the ideal candidate for the Democratic Party. We see that he all of a sudden does not want to live up to his Great Irish name but instead live the way Sir Henry wanted him too. Friel s use of the dramatic (pause) shows how Hugh s mind is in constant battle. He is unaware what to do next. However it is because of his public duty that he realises this means nothing to anyone else but himself. Hugh realises he must continue in fighting against the English Rule and pushes his private feelings a side. In the opening scene of the play we see a very different Hugh O Neill to what the audience would previously have seen. Immediately we see him floating between romantic thoughts and business thoughts. He is distracted as he is thinking about the arrival of his new wife Mabel. Harry is trying to read letter s to him and tell him the current news but Hugh is inattentive as he places flowers around the room. In this scene Friel uses the dramatic technique of imagery and symbolism again. On the surface, the flowers are seen as props but they are used as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Eclipse Is An Open Source Integrated Development... Milestone 12: Case Study Eclipse Yujia Xie I. Introduction Eclipse is an open source Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for almost every computer programming language over a dozen platforms (Mac, Linux, Windows, etc.). In fact, it is one of the most popular IDEs nowadays for multiple programming languages, especially Java. Back in 2001, Eclipse 1.0 came out as a framework, a flexible architecture that served as the building tool for developers, providing a variety of accessible toolkits, private or public, to ease to process of programming. Over the course of time, Eclipse takes in developers feedbacks and enhances its accessibility and usability, releasing new versions with more functionality (i.e. Java Development Tools, Plug in Development Environment, Rich Client Platform, etc.). One of the core ideas behind Eclipse is to allow users (in this case developers) to write and share modules (i.e. toolkits), different from the previous IDEs that hides their individual building classes. For example, the pioneer Plug in Development Environment (PDE) for Eclipse was designed specifically for this purpose, allowing developers to build and test their own plugins that would later benefit the performance of Eclipse. Eclipse provide an environment that individual users can manipulate the framework to facilitate their daily work. Like most of the open source software, originally, Eclipse was written by a group of paid, full time developer, setting up the fundamental structure at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How did Napoleon modernize ground warfare? 2. Describe your research to date on your topic. This topic can only be analyzed by examining Napoleon in action, so I assessed reports and depictions of Napoleon s actions on the battlefield from battles such as Toulon, The Battle of the Pyramids, Leipzig, Borodino, and Austerlitz. His army did not have supply lines; instead they lived off the land so that they could maximize their pace. Napoleon s cavalry was used to scout ahead of the real army so that Napoleon could know exactly where his enemy was. Napoleon also divided his army into corps that were never more than 24 hours apart so that they could assist each other if necessary. The Bitter Conflict in Northern Ireland Essay examples The Bitter Conflict in Northern Ireland Out of all the conflicts that have occurred in Western Europe since the Second World War, Northern Ireland has been one of the most bitter, long lasting and intractable. This conflict is based in the struggle of one side of the community for a unified independent Ireland and the opposition of the other part of the community to this aim and their desire for Northern Ireland to remain a part of the United Kingdom. Due to the hostility between these two sides issues of discrimination in areas such as housing, employment, electoral manipulations and religious histories have been rife. • 18. Taking a Look at Spinal Shock The term spinal shock was first defined by Whytt in 1750 as a loss of sensation accompanied by motor paralysis with the initial loss but gradual recovery of reflexes following a spinal cord injury . Spinal shock occurs due to there being a sudden loss of conductivity of electrical signals in the spinal cord, since the potassium ions move from the intracellular space to the extracellular space. When this occurs the body cannot effectively send nerve signal impulses to control automatic reflexes below the site of the spinal cord injury. The symptoms of spinal shock patients are that there are complications such as hypotension because the sympathetic nervous system is unable to regulate vascular tone (contraction of the blood vessels). This is usually the case when the injury is in the cervical spinal cord. Other symptoms include: flexor spasms, tetraplegia, and paraplegia, atonic paralysis and many other symptoms such as a pounding headache and excessive sweating (Patient Education Institute). There are four main phases of spinal shock. They are Hyporeflexia that is due to loss of descending facilitation which is the first phase that last for approximately a day. The second phase initial reflex returns and denervation super sensitivity which occurs within 1 3 days of the spinal shock (Silver, 1970). The third phase takes up to four weeks it s the initial Hyperreflexia with axon supported synapse growth. The last phase is the Hyperreflexia and spasticity through ... The minimum capital adequacy ratio that is required to be maintained by a bank is 8% (without the capital conservation buffer), which must reach 10,5% of the total assets. To provide a bank for equilibrium between loans and deposits Basel III has developed specific regulation which initiates with risk assessment through the stress test. Basel III compels banks to have sufficient liquidity available during a period of 30 days of stressed conditions. Under these circumstances only half serves to reimburse the bank and the bank is expected to inject the other 50% in the economy by granting new loans. Thus, loans with a maturity of 50% leave the bank once more. The histories and other few writings focused on the great deeds of high kings, lords and knights; English folk lore gave little attention to the commoner. That is with the notable exception of the yeoman Robin Hood. English peasants heard the tale of Robin Hood s charismatic rebellion against strict hierarchy and rejoiced. Robin was the original rebel, the original adventurer, and the hero all Englishmen identified with. For this reason, Robin Hood has remained a key figure in the collective mythos of the English and of their cultural children. To understand the importance of Robin Hood and his adventures, one must first appreciate the extremely mundane lives of the typical English peasant farmer. Born into duty and loyalty, calcified feudalism forced the serfs to work the land on which they were born for little profit and gain for a lifetime. Most were illiterate, uneducated, and highly provincial. A serf s purpose was to remain loyal to his lord and to toil obediently farming the land until death. Even the prospect of climbing into nobility oneself was impossible. God had made serfs into serfs and lords into lords. To rebel against one s station in life was to rebel against God. In other words, serfs had nothing to strive for in the socioeconomic order of medieval England. These fettered minds gave birth to a hero that captured the hopes and dreams that themselves they could never achieve. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Summary Of The Emancipation Proclamation In the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, Abraham Lincoln states that if the Southern states did not end their rebellion by January 1st, 1863, that Proclamation would go into effect. When the South did not follow these terms, Lincoln issued the final Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st, 1863. This document helped lead the way to the total removal of slavery from the entire United States and the creation of the thirteenth Amendment. The author of the Emancipation Proclamation is the sixteenth president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln who served from March 1861 to his assassination in April 1865. Abraham Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky and was largely a self educated man. Later in Lincolns life he became a lawyer in Illinois, a Whig party leader, and elected the Illinois House of Representatives. In 1846, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives but shortly afterwards returned to Illinois to resume his law career. When he decided to get back into politics in 1854 he became a leader in the building of the new Republican Party which had popularity in Illinois. During Lincolns campaign for US Senator from Illinois he participated in highly publicized debates with his opponent, Democrat Stephen A. Douglas, where he spoke against slaveries expansion. He often expressed his dislike for slavery in public and private, and eventually wanted to bring end to slavery. In 1860, Lincoln became the Republican Party presidential nomination and ... • 33. Love And Love In The Book Of Love Possessed By Gabriel... In the book Of Love and Other Demons written by Gabriel Marquez, Main Character Sierva Maria is a young child whose existence had been neglected from birth by her father, The second Marquis of Casalduero, and her mother, a once powerful Merchant. She lives her life, peacefully, among the slaves in their quarters until she is one day bitten by a rabid dog. Once the news had spread of the bite, the question of not only life and death, but demonic possession and love come into play. The article, By Love Possessed written by A.S Byatt, closely analyzes the life Sierva suffered after the bite and if the demons in the title of the work are really the ones the Church believes is possessing her. Love is subliminally introduced throughout the piece and the only demon named in the title. Knowing that love is the worst demon of all, the other demons mentioned in the work never resided in Sierva, but in the sins of man. When Sierva was bitten, the only people who knew about it were the slaves. After a few rituals, the bite slowly began to heal and she showed no signs of contracting the deadly disease of rabies. Once her father, the Marquis, made the discovery of what had occurred, he made Sierva live within the house instead of the slave quarters. Not suited to the environment, Sierva never spoke and rarely showed any form of emotion. The Marquis did everything he could to figure out how to save her, not only from possibly contracting rabies, but from what was making her act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Model T Revolutionized The Automotive Industry When Henry Ford began making cars, he felt that the automotive was destined to make the horse and carriage disappear. However, to make that happen first he needed to produce a car that was affordable by everyone. In 1908, he achieved that with the production of the Model T. The Model T revolutionized the automotive industry. The Model T was the first affordable car for the masses. Its affordability came from several properties. First, the Model T featured all interchangeable parts. Parts in one Model T were exactly the same as the parts in another model T made in the same year. Second, the Model T was the first car to contain vanadium steel parts, which were stronger, more dependable and lighter weight than previous steel pieces and they could be manufactured easier. Third, the Ford Company was the first company to employ a moving assembly line which allowed them to assemble the cars faster than anyone else. In the early 1900s, the automotive industry was a burgeoning business with many competitors trying to out do each other. Companies rose and fell on a regular basis. By 1903, 214 different companies had arisen in America to manufacture the automobile. However, by 1904, at least 84 of those had either ceased to exist or changed to a different line of work. (Ford, 234) When he joined the ranks of manufacturers in 1903, Henry Ford was determined to make his company work. When the Ford Motor Company began, it like many other companies of its time, ordered parts for their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Choice Of Cpu And Intel Core I7 1.0 Choice of the CPUs The choice of CPU will influence the other decisions one makes about the ability to find a compatible motherboard, CPU cooler and (to some extent) power supply. The Intel Core i7 4820K and the Intel Core i5 4670K can be easily differentiated. The main Characteristics of both are explained as follows: a) General Characteristics of Intel Core i7 4820K 1. The Operating frequency is higher in Intel i7 4820K. 2. The Intel Core i7 4820K is not locked , that is, the processor can be easily over clocked on most motherboards for better performance. 3. This processor includes Advanced Encryption Standard technology which provides AES encryption acceleration to secure the disk data. 4. The i7 is hyper threaded, which means that it can handle twice the amount of threads than i5, putting it at a capacity of eight simultaneous threads. b) General Characteristics of Intel Core i5 4670K 1. The Intel Core i5 comes with higher operating frequency than the Core i7. 2. Power usage of the microprocessor is better. 3. AVX, AVX2, F16C and FMA3 instructions are included in the Core i5 4670K. These extensions are not widely used in applications. 4. The i5 4670K combines Graphics Processing Unit that can be used for casual gaming and 3D apps, but it is not too fast to run latest games at full resolution. 5. The i5 4670K uses The Socket 1150, which is still effectively supported by Intel. 1. b Performance CPU performance of Core i5 parts is slower than that of Core i7. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Euthyphro, Socrates And Euthyphro Ortecia Guity Introduction to Philosophy 4/30/15 In Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates and Euthyphro have a battle concerning the meaning of piety. Socrates interrogates Euthyphro on whether or not is possible to have an objective definite definition of a concept/object. This came to be known as Euthyphro s Dilemma. This argument can be clarified as follows; what is dear to the gods is pious, and what is not is impious : if an object is God love, than the object must be loved by all Gods; therefore, pious objects are those that are necessarily loved by all Gods. (10a). The dilemma emanates when one realizes it is God loved if it is pious, and pious due to being God loved; in this case, piety in itself would be considered irrational in ... Euthyphro s second attempt to define piety is; What is dear to the gods is pious, and what is not is impious (7a). What he s saying is that actions that are pleasing to the gods would be pious and those opposed to them are impious. Socrates didn t agree with this because what s pleasing to one god isn t to another, thus piety cannot be simply what is dear to the gods. In the real world, we could apply this to a religion that serves one God, Christianity. By being a Christian we work to live our lives in a positive way by what s written in the bible. But are our actions pious because God tells us to do so, or does God tell us to do them because they are pious? In comparison to Euthyphro, our actions are pious because God says to do them, while he says if were not pleasing the gods than were not pious. Because we believe that God is omnipotent, we view his work as pious and want to live by his word. Socrates points out that he has yet to answer the question and asks, how can you be so sure that your action is not impious? His third attempt; The godly and the pious is a part of the just that is the care of the gods, while that concerned with the care of men is the remaining part of justice (12e). • 37. Essay on A Progressive Movement A Progressive Movement Much of a historian s job is to read what their colleagues have written on their subject of interest at the moment. Often, they then go on to write their own opinions on the subject, thereby influencing the historians of the future. The famed historian and teacher Richard Hofstadter wrote The Age of Reform in 1955 about the late 19th century and early 20th century movement of Progressivism. In turn, other historians that include Paula Baker, Richard McCormick, and Peter Filene have written their opinion on what the movement we call Progressivism really was, and what its real significance is, or even if it really existed as a movement in its own right. Richard Hofstadter s book The Age of Reform was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Filene defines a movement as a collectivity acting with some continuity to promote or resist a change in the society...one can then analyze its internal characteristics along four dimensions: program, the values which underlie this program, membership and supporters (20 21). Filene finds the program of a social movement the most important part, for without a program the movement will be unable to sustain itself. His most convincing point is that on so many issues, the Progressives, supposedly a defined and cohesive movement, had numerous splits within their group. For example, The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 created, according to Arthur Link, a conflict between uncompromising and middle of the road progressives. The most convincing example concerns women s suffrage, a cause that has generally been attributed to the progressive movement. However, as Filene points out, progressive Presidents Roosevelt and Taft were unwilling to appease feminists with suffrage, and stayed far from the idea for as long as possible. Indeed, if a list of 400 so called progressives is carefully researched, it may be noted that they are divided almost exactly down the center for and against a woman s right to vote (22 23). In this way, it is clear that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Of Mice Vs Mice Have you been dealing with mice in your home for years and can t seem to get them out? You re not alone: mice are incredibly clever creatures that are nearly impossible to catch, let alone eliminate. First of all, mice have incredibly senses. Their hearing range is wide and includes incredibly high pitched sounds, which makes it easier for them to hear you coming. And their smell is very strong: they actually recognize living creatures almost entirely by smell. Some mice can even track intruders and friends by sniffing out their footprints. And while mice have fairly poor vision, they make up for it with their sense of touch. Those cute little whiskers detect vibrations and send these sensations directly to their brain. However, long tactile fur also threads through their coat, giving them an even stronger sense of touch. They can often literally feel your footsteps from across the house. ... The information about PIPEs is material since it s not yet publicly announced and that info could affect the shareholders behaviors. 1. Why didn t the SEC accuse Mark Cuban of traditional illegal insider trading, considering he was the largest, individual shareholder of Mamma.com? Even though the information about PIPEs was material inside information, Mark Cuban was not accused as traditional insider information. To qualify as traditional insider trading, there must involve true insiders buying or selling the company s stock based on material inside information. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SEC alleged that Mark Cuban violated misappropriate insider trading. To be qualified as misappropriate insider trading, an individual wrongfully obtains (misappropriates) inside information and trades on it for her or his personal benefit. In this case, Cuban actually traded his shares based on the material inside information he was told and saved him $750,000 in losses. Wrongful misappropriation means violation of a fiduciary duty. The Court found that Cuban had not misappropriated any material non public information because he had not violated a legal duty to refrain from trading. Cuban had not promised that he would not trade after learning about a PIPE offering. The judge also said that the SEC failed to show that Cuban undertook a legal duty to not use the information he learned from those two phone calls with Mamma.com representatives. Mark Cuban did not have any fiduciary duty to not act upon the information. The Mamma.com CEO asked Cuban to keep their conversation confidential. However, that didn t prove that Cuban had a legal duty to Mamma.com that would prohibit him from selling his shares based on what he was told. He just promised to not disclose the information to the others, not promised to not act upon what someone told him. Besides, there was no evidence that he actually agreed that day to keep anything confidential. He never agreed on the phone that he would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The author feels this way working in the custom house surrounded by old men. I am a citizen of somewhere else (31). Hester, of course, is isolated from the rest of the community because of her sin. Even though the narrator feels he will be criticized for attempting to make a writing career, he makes a fictional account of Hester s story anyways.
