An Analysis Of Stephen Dobyns Deceptions
Secrets are precious vessels, travelling from a person s heart, out of their mouth, and into another s
ear. But sometimes, due to misplaced trust, the vessels do not stay sealed, or protected, as they should
be. Rather, they are exposed to the masses, and that person s heart is one display for all to see and
judge and interpret. Poems are the secrets of a poet s heart. When a poet writes, it is not intended for
an audience. Rather, it comes from a private place that can no longer be suppressed. There is an
overwhelming desire to tell, to reveal, that leads a poet to paper. The paper serves as a blank space
where they can express their inner desires, fears, or experiences without worrying about the judgment
of others. Once a poem is finished, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Concepts Of Authority In Mohawk Interruptus By Audra Simpson
Authority is important for any leader or government, because that is how decisions are accepted as
right. Sovereignty is the recognition by other states that one government has the authority to control a
certain territory. As well as the acceptance of rule by the people One major reading that contests this
idea of sovereignty is the book Mohawk Interruptus by Audra Simpson, which discusses the trials of
Native American populations and their efforts to reclaim their own sovereignty. Within Mohawk
Interruptus, the people of the Kahnawá:ke tribe struggle against the colonial idea of American or
Canadian sovereignty lorded over them, and through refusal of such gifts regain their sovereignty. ...
Kahnawa kehró:non had refused the authority of the state at almost every turn and in so doing
reinstated a different political authority (Simpson, 2014, 106). Through these rejections, the people of
Kahnawá:ke and Kahnawa kehró:non established that the current system of sovereignty does not work
for them, as it is colonially based to oppress the Native American communities. Simpson uses these
examples to make a larger point on the Western systems of governance and understandings of
authority. Though this idea of sovereignty, Simpson argues, was a way to appropriate land and
incorporate or destroy opposing cultures. Through the research of Hannah Ardent, it is considered that
sovereignty has been used to forcefully assimilate minority populations of nations. Within her paper

Competency Inventory
Functional Competency Inventory and Design by Jai Cortes
I. Title of the Diagnostic Tool: Functional Competency Inventory and Design
II. Overview of the Diagnostic Tool
a. Definition
In a nutshell, functional competency inventory and design, is a tool which aims to measure the
competencies of functional groups of organizations, which are affected by their respective core
objectives. In 1973, McClelland supported testing for competence, rather than intelligence. By
definition, competencies are general descriptions of the abilities necessary to perform successfully in
areas specified. Competency profiles synthesize skills, knowledge, attributes and values, and express
performance requirements in behavioral terms. The review of ... Show more content on

Unlike Core Competency Inventory and Design, Functional Competency Inventory and Design
focuses on and measures the competency (knowledge, skills, personal attributes, and behavior) of
functional groups. These groups are based on organization s structure and are the formal groups on
organizational charts. These groups have their tasks and leaders chosen by higher management.
Functional groups usually have specific rules of operation and clearly defined superior subordinate
relationships. For example, in the school setting, the Head Registrar is the designated leader of a
functional group of subordinates that includes a number of assistant registrars, liaison officer, and
secretaries.
What Functional Competency Inventory and Design does is that it measures the competency required
for each functional area, as like in the above mentioned example, the Registrar s office, and checks
whether the members of the group has the competency required for the functional area. Another way
of seeing functional groups would be to see that these functional groups are equivalent to departments
in companies. So Finance, Marketing, Operations, Research and Development, and other departments
of the corporation are all functional groups, whose competency can be measured through this

The peril of exile was a major source of anxiety in Anglo Saxon society. The lyrics of The Seafarer,

was the threat of exile. The Seafarer, The Wanderer, and The Wife s Lament all share the common
theme of exile in the Anglo Saxon society. The peril of exile can be an eerie topic, because it is

Invisible Man Identity
In the novel, Invisible Man written by Ralph Ellison, the author jumps right into the story with a
character dying. The character who dies was the narrator s grandfather, who had earlier stated about
how to not become a traitor. From the beginning of the novel, it takes off into a story full of suspense
and mystery. The narrator has to overcome significant oppressions from the dominant white society.
Throughout the story, the protagonist has to find his own identity without tripping over obstacles, such
as his color. One major theme is identity; however, the protagonist s name is not given until the middle
of the novel, which is Griffin. The author wanted to express the personality and motivations of the

The author s intention was to show the problems African Americans had to overcome. The abuse and

There are those who are quick to get into the holiday spirit, and there are those who blog angrily about
how they saw candy canes on the Wal Mart shelves before Halloween. To satisfy those in the former
group, radio stations have been jumping on the 24 hour holiday music train since the mid 1990s. To
the disappointment of the latter, the trend is gaining momentum and starting earlier than ever this year.

Darren Davis said their all holiday preparation usually begins in August.

Behaviorism And The Operant Conditioning Theory Essay
It is a fact that people learn differently. Some people learn by seeing, some by hearing, some by doing,
and then others learn from a combination of these. For many decades psychologists, theorists, and
scientists have all sought to prove to their peers, society and the world that not only do people learn
differently but children and adult learning differ also. Learning theories are conceptualized
frameworks which describe how individuals absorb, process and retain information. Behaviorists such
as John B. Watson, B.F. Skinner, Edward L. Thorndike, Ivan Pavlov and Edwin R. Guthrie believed
that all learners were passive in nature and only responded to external stimuli. Behaviorism, as
explored by the before mentioned, is a biological basis of learning and focuses exclusively on
observable behaviors. This includes Thorndike s theory of connectionism, Pavlov s classical
conditioning and the well known conditioning theory from Skinner the operant conditioning model.
However, many researchers did not like the one size fits all explanation of behaviorism. Cognitivism
grew in response to behaviorism in an effort to better understand the mental processes behind learning.
This challenged behaviorism with the idea that learning is the process of connecting symbols in a
meaningful way; thus all knowledge is stored cognitively as symbols. Still, cognitivism didn t account
for individuality and the input output model was seen as very mechanic. The social cognitive theory
was developed

Persuasive Speech To Adopt Animals
It was the spring of fifth grade and I was 11 and I just got home from school. Me and my Dad were the
only ones home, my two other brothers were at school and my mom was not home. So me and my

A couple weeks ago me and my Mom signed up to volunteer at our cities humane society. If you don t

there you help the animals that are there that means that you walk dogs, feed them, clean their cages,
ect well one of the things we signed up to do was foster puppies or dogs that were not fit to be adopted
yet, for puppies they had to be a certain weight in order to be adopted, for older dogs they would
usually have health problems we would watch them to make sure it was not too bad to the point where
no one could adopt them then after a week or so of watching them you would bring them back to the
humane society to be adopted.
So after the phone call I asked my Dad why glory needed to come down stairs. He responded by

Folsom Powerhouse Accomplishments
Perched high above the shore of Lake Natoma, Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park displays the
work of men who were critical to the creation of electric power systems in use today. The
Powerhouse, with its original 1895 equipment, illustrates how power systems were constructed in the
late 19th century. It is the work of a General Electric (GE) Corporation team of many brilliant
individuals whose contributions were not always recognized in their lifetimes. Many attempts have
been made to describe the significance and stunning accomplishments of the Folsom Powerhouse. The
word first is commonly used. This claim is sometimes incorrectly applied and does not do justice to

In 1884, Judge Lorenzo Sawyer s ruling against the North Bloomfield Mining and Gravel Company
(for the full story, see Malakoff Diggings) ended hydraulic mining and created a base of unemployed
workers with journeyman skills in hydro engineering. Their experience with penstocks and monitor
nozzles was invaluable, and they were eager for work. As mine shafts replaced hydraulic mining, a
power source was needed to operate water pumps, air pumps, stamp mills, lighting, and other
machinery. Steam power plants required boilers, piping, the ongoing costs of coal or wood fuel, and a
significant workforce to run the operation. Even with the cost of building dams, hydroelectricity was a
less expensive option. One of the first recorded uses of hydroelectric power for mining in California
was the 1889 DC powerhouse for the Dalmatia mine in El Dorado County. Mine owners whose
facilities were distant from a water source were eager to try the new AC technology. Those that did

Title: Global warming, a natural interglacial change on temperature.
Abstract:
Global warming has been widely discussed all around the world as it is an issue that affects the living
of all mankind in the world. It is argued that the anthropogenic changes posse more influence on the
climate change to the Earth, compared to the naturally driven glacial and interglacial changes in
temperature. This report is based on the Vostok Core by faculty at Columbia University as an example
for us to investigate global climate change. Author of this report believes global warming is just part
of the long term temperature fluctuation during the interglacial period as there is no convincing and
valid evidence that shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CO2, dust and CH4 are the main source of greenhouses gases, which are produced mainly by human
activities. If that is the case, the composition of CO2, dust and CH4 should be coherent to the change
of temperature of the Earth. Yet, it is not shown from the data.
Moreover, there are lots of different factors that keep affecting the temperature of the Earth. The
energy of the sun, the albedo effect, Milakovitch Cycles, plate tectonics are the examples of the
factors that affect the temperature.
Conclusion
To conclude, based the given data, it is difficult to prove that anthropogentic changes are stronger than
the glacial and interglacial changes in temperature, as there are not enough valid evidence from the
lab. Studying climate change is not a short term issue. However, due to the limited technology level
and the knowledge of the Earth, we could not obtain concise data to investigate the climate change.
The ice core could be one of the proxies that help us to understand the climatic condition in the past. It
is suggested to compare more other proxies, in order to draw conclusion of the main reason and the
trend of climate change.

Talisman cannot take the risk and face another scandal like what happened in Sudan.
Talisman should investigate about how independent Kurdistan is from the rest of Iraq, if there is any
singe of conflict between Kurdistan and the government of Iraq, Talisman then should clear it out with
the Iraqi government. It is as I mentioned an unstable region, so there is a great chance of conflicts.
Talisman should clear out how the shares after oil discovery will be divided, since that they are not
sure of finding oil or not, there might be some conflicts after the oil discovery, simply because oil is
demanded all over the world, so the Iraqi government might change it s mind and decide to get its
share of the profit.
Talisman should use the media to their side before any other conflict appears. There should be some
meetings with NGOs to clear out Talismans policy and intentions in entering Iraq. There has to be a
communication between Talisman and the NGOs to make sure that the company is away from funding
any civil wars. That way, shareholders will feel even more comfortable, and the company will not risk
its reputation.

Organ And Organ Of Organ Transplantation
Recognized as one of the most gripping medical advances of the century, organ transplantation
provides a way of giving the gift of life to patients with terminal failure of vital organs. Organ
transplantation requires the participation of both fellow human beings and of society by donating
organs from deceased or living individuals. The ever increasing rate of organ failure and the
inadequate supply of organs have created a significant gap between organ supply and organ demand.
This gap has resulted in extremely lengthy waiting times to receive an organ as well as an increased
number of deaths among those waiting for an organ. These events have raised many ethical, moral and
societal issues regarding supply, the methods of organ allocation and the use of living donors as
volunteers including minors. It has also led to the practice of organ sale by entrepreneurs for financial
gains in some parts the world through exploitation of the poor, for the benefit of the wealthy. This

Learning Theories Provide Instructional Designers With...
Learning theories provide instructional designers with instructional strategies and techniques which
facilitate learning. Each learning perspective discussed in this essay is in terms of specific
interpretation of the learning process. The information presented provides the reader with a
comparison and contrast of the differences in practical application in an instructional situation. The
specific learning theories in this essay are behaviorism, constructivism and cognitivism. The essay
will compare and contrast how learning occurs in each theory, the roles of the teacher and the student,
the curriculum and learning goals, and lastly, assessments. Behaviorism focuses on behaviors and not
cognitive or abstract activities. It involves thinking, remembering and problem solving. Additionally,
behaviorism relies on expressed, measureable behaviors and the repeat stimuli that cause behaviors.
Students respond to the conditions in the environment. Therefore, knowledge is given and absolute.
Learning occurs when students are able to provide the proper response to the given stimulus. The
methods used by the teacher are the use of instructional cues, reinforcement (both positive and
negatively) and practice. When this learning theory is used, the students learn basic skills before
moving on to more difficult skills. The role of the teacher in the behaviorism approach is to be the
transmitter of the knowledge. He/she is the expert that knows the material. The

being able to assist all members of the community regardless of their income bracket. He stated that
no one day is identical and that the job keeps him on his toes. The negative aspect of his job is coming
into contact with individuals of different temperaments including those with mental illness and irate

his role as an overseer (G. Vargas, personal communications, February 24, 2016). The difference in
responses can be attributed to the different agendas of George Vargas and Terry Ramos. Terry has a

She has a caring nature and wishes to make a significant change within the youth. George is less

Parking Policies on Campus Essay
As a non traditional student of the University Mary Hardin Baylor, I can say parking policies could
use some changes. I understand the need for parking policies for safety and security reasons, but some
parking rules are just ridiculous. My family has four vehicles, only one of them has a UMHB parking
sticker. This sticker was issued at registration; it is one of the many hidden fees that are added into
tuition. I sometimes drive different vehicles to campus. When I drive different vehicles, I have to go to
campus police to get a temporary parking permit. However, I do have the option to purchase a sticker
for each vehicle, if I want to pay fifteen dollars for each sticker. Another parking issue is that vehicles
cannot be pulled through or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If vehicles have been parked incorrectly, a citation will be issued. I have read several studies that state,
pulling through or backing into a parking space is safer, it is a good idea for several of reasons. It is
easier to pull out into traffic instead of backing out into traffic. There is also a better view when
leaving. When backing out blind spots could cause an accident, pulling out into traffic the driver has
full visibility. The drivers are aware of the other vehicles and pedestrians around them. Then, when
they go to leave, they have good, clear view to pull out. There is even a policy on where students are
allowed to park. If a student parks in the restricted areas, or is parked incorrectly, they will be issued a
citation.
Additional parking stickers mean additional fees for the student. College is already expensive, extra
fees are just a way for the college to get more money. Since all vehicles must have a parking permit I
have to go get a temporary parking permit every time I use other vehicles. This is time consuming and
having to go by the campus police to get a parking permit is inconvenient. I work a full time job as
well as going to college full time, so my time is limited. I drop my youngest son off at school on my
way to campus, so my mornings are already busy. As soon as class is over, I go straight to work. I
leave work to come straight to campus for evening classes. Sometimes, I have just enough time to get
to class. If I have to stop

One of the main themes is postmodernist of absolute truth... The Handmaid s Tale by Atwood makes

Dictatorism In The Hunger Games
Allowing people to get their needs for food and entertainment, without too much effort on them, was
what many different dictatorial societies did to control their communities for certain periods of time,
in the past. This was also dictatorial society s method to gain control over the districts and the Capitol
s people of the country called Panem in The Hunger Games trilogy of young adult dystopian novels
written by American novelist Suzanne Collins. These games were an entertainment that provided a
place for the Capitol s riches to spend time and money in abundance, a dusty page reminiscent of
capitol s victory in the war against districts, and a coercion to show off the capitol s power.
Hunger Games were very popular in districts as well as in the Capitol. People in the Capitol loved
hunger games because it was so exciting and breathtaking. Every year tributes came from other
districts in train and Capitol people waited there for them. Cheering, shouting for the new hunger
games, a game that they enjoy others death. The people begin to point at us eagerly as they recognize
a tribute train rolling into the city. I step away from the window, sickened by their excitement,
knowing they can t wait to watch us die (Collins 59). Some tributes waved their hands to them
bewilderedly and some sat in their chairs despondently but they all knew that every tribute will be

Eduardo Quintana Case
Abstract
This research paper is going to focus mainly in the process followed by Officer Bird during a traffic
violation that led to the arrest of the suspect named Alejandro Quintana. The analysis of the two sides
of the coin, the officer and the suspect taken into custody is of main interest in this case. There are a
variety of steps to be followed prior to an arrest. The officer/investigator should be responsible for any
action taken towards an individual who is about to or being processed. In the particular case of
Alejandro Quintana, officer Bird executed the arrest of a suspect that clearly was suspicious utilizing
probable cause and plain view search in order to arrest him and seize the evidence. Mr. Quintana s

Bird could have not searched the trunk of Mr. Quintana s car even if she thought he was hiding
something from the law. According to Swanson et, al. (2014), the Supreme Court ruled I the 1981 case
New York v. Belton that when a police officer makes a lawful custodial arrest of the occupant of an
automobile, the officer may search the vehicle s passenger compartment as a contemporaneous
incident of arrest...The right to search includes any open or closed containers found in the passenger
compartment...It does not include the trunk (Swanson et, al. 2014), p.30). The arrest of Mr. Quintana
gives the officer the right to search the passenger s side but not the car s trunk. Officer Bird couldn t
be able to legally search Mr. Quintana s car trunk without and issued search warrant on the motor
vehicle s trunk. According to (Decker, 1999), The purpose of a warrant is to allow a neutral judicial
officer to assess whether the police have probable cause to make an arrest or conduct a search
(Decker, 1999, para.2). This one reason provides an even field for the suspect and the police officer,
giving the judge issuing the warrant the decision making process of whether or not permitting the
prosecution of the individual who can be innocent by an officer unlawfully

Evaluating the Effectiveness of MRI Technology
Learning Outcomes Introduction Over the last several years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has
become an increasingly popular technique. This is because it has been shown to be effective at
diagnosing various conditions and diseases in the patient. The way that this occurs is the individual is
placed into a movable bed that slides into a machine. This is a large magnet with hydrogen protons
that can go through the body to see different aspects of the internal organs and systems. The images
that are uncovered can tell health care professionals about the extent of a condition impacting the
body. This is when they can determine the best treatment options moving forward. (Albert, 1994)
However, despite the usefulness of this technique, there are still concerns about its accuracy and
possible side effects. To determine the effectiveness of MRIs requires carefully examining the various
benefits and drawbacks. This will be accomplished by conducting a study that is concentrating on a
number of areas to include: the search strategy, overview of the literature, methodologies and
applications. Together, these different elements will highlight the strengths and the weaknesses of
using MRI technology in a modern health care setting. (Shellock, 1999) Search Strategy The basic
search strategy will involve focusing on using online and print resources. The different kinds that will
be examined include: scholarly journals and books. The methodology will involve utilizing

Symbolism In Victory Gin
Imagine living in a society where the government rules every aspect of an individual s life to the
degree that their personal liberties are nonexistent and they are deprived of indulging in simple primal
activities. Winston Smith lives in a dystopian world where he finds himself trapped in a society where
individuality does not exist. The government controls every aspect of its citizens lives for the purpose
of retaining power. It maintains its power by using fear tactics like the threat of perpetual war and the
manipulation of its citizens minds by limiting expression and speech and controlling the narrative of
history. This results in a loss of self, but the Party s control over its citizens is multifaceted. George

Alcohol is a depressant because it slows down the functions of the central nervous system, so the
Party has essentially assigned Winston an additive which affects his cognitive skills, which serves as a
ploy to push the Party s agenda (Stephen 3). The gin serves as a treatment the Party gives to its
members to make them less conscious of the conditions of reality and to stimulate sanguineness,
which serves the purpose of inevitably eliminating independent thought. Unfortunately, to the Party s
dismay, the efficacy of the gin is completely dependent on the user s need to consume it.
Although the Party exercises much of its power through intimidation, psychological manipulation, and
other indirect methods of control, the Victory Gin s effect on Winston s mental state of mind is
limited. As Winston begins to completely reject social expectations and rebel against the Party, he had
dropped his habit of drinking gin at all hours. He seemed to have lost the need for it, the more time he

Essay Raphael s Portrait Leo X with Cardinals Guilio de ...
In Nelson Minnich s religious interpretation of Raphael s famous portrait of Pope Leo X, Minnich first
begins with the very basics of the portrait; what is contained within its canvas and why it is there.
From small clues such as these, he is able to lay the foundation for which theories and conclusions can
be based. He first points out the location of the figures in the painting. Minnich believes that they are
in a large room, seated before a green cloth on the wall, or cloth of honor. There is some speculation,
however, as to exactly where this room is located. Several theorists, as well as he, believe that the
location is a room in the Vatican, perhaps the library. He points out that there is reflection of a window

Leo would have needed the glass to read the next item on the table, his bible. The bible is obviously
not an unlikely item, being that it is a portrait of a pope, but it is where the bible is opened to that is of
importance; St. John s Gospel. Minnich tells us that Leo s first baptismal name was Giovanni, a name
that came from this gospel. After inspecting the painting for obvious clues and symbols, Minnich is
ready to discuss the possible reasons for the paintings existence. The first being the obvious, that it is
merely a papal state portrait. He points out several reasons that this could be a wrong assumption. The
painting was kept in Florence and not in Rome, like most papal portraits. It was much smaller than an
average state portrait. And the most obvious objection was that there were three people present in the
painting, which is highly unusual for a portrait. Minnich then suggests the possibility that Raphael was
merely painting a family portrait. But then he quickly points out that no other of Leo s relatives was
involved. He also points out that the items involved, a bell, the bible, are not usually in state portraits.
With the state portrait theory clearly discredited, Minnich tells readers of the theory that the painting is
simply an occasional piece, saying that it was painted just to be displayed at the wedding of the
Medici and Valois houses in lieu of the pope and his two relatives not being able to make the
festivities. Minnich states that

The Mass Of Broadcast Journalism
Many aspiring Mass Communications majors find themselves intrigued and hopeful by the medium of
Broadcast Journalism. Young students imagine themselves on television speaking to the public about
the everyday happenings around the community. However, as other growing mediums emerge,
Broadcast Journalism is a dwindling in viewership, especially with the younger generation. For my

It s no secret that many, if not the majority, of the world s most famous companies have been accused
of acting in an unethical manner; but the unasked question is why do so many get away with acting
unethically. The definition of the ethics is the study of practices and policies in business, to determine

it seems like all it takes for a business to get away with acting unethically is a good reputation. My

Different Types of Nuclear Energy Essay
As a source of energy, nuclear energy provides a safer alternative, for the production of energy for
large scale consumption. There are two different types of nuclear energy; nuclear fission and nuclear
fusion. Nuclear fission is the process in which a nucleus spits into two or more smaller nuclei. Nuclear
fusion is the process in which two nuclei fuse together to form a larger nuclei. Nuclear reactors can
become unstable creating an uncontrollable nuclear reaction. The effects of this can be seen in
Chernobyl. Reactors have been designed safer after this disaster.

The energy produced by the fission of uranium provides heat which turns water into steam which then
turns the turbines, generating electricity. Nuclear reactors are becoming a more common source of
electricity with 77% of France s electricity coming from nuclear reactors. It s both safer and easier to
build thermal reactors. Most nuclear reactors are now thermal reactors. A nuclear reactor s main
components are the fuel rods; the control rods; the moderator and the coolant. These components are
all found in the reactor s core. Enriched fuel is placed in airtight rods, these are called the fuel rods.
The moderator is the material that is found around the fuel and control rods. The coolant absorbs
excess heat produced by the fission process in the reactor. Nuclear reactors are generally enclosed in a
thick, airtight concrete and steel vessel. This protects those outside from the large quantities of gamma
radiation given off.
Nuclear energy is the most efficient source of energy, producing 20 million times more energy than
fossil fuels. Nuclear fusion creates more electricity than nuclear fission but needs temperatures of 20
million degrees. Nuclear reactors create nuclear waste as well as electricity. This nuclear waste takes
centuries to become safe. Klaus Rolf, a member of Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, believes he
can make radioactive waste safe in decades instead of centuries. Rolf claims to have cult the half life

Why Is The Use Comradery And Authority In Ordinary Men
As with all historical analysis, it s important to preserve the agency of those who were involved. In
Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning, the argument is posed that due to the complexities of choice
in the Nazi regime, the men involved in the mass murder of the Jewish population did so due to a
perceived inability to liberate oneself. While the circumstances surrounding the men of Reserve Police
Battalion 101 were often constrictive, these men actively served the Nazi regime and lead to the
murder of thousands of people. Inside of the Nazi administration, there were many deep and pervasive
means of making defection and refusal to seem unreachable. Two of the ways most discussed by
Christopher Browning was the use comradery and authority to keep men complicit ... Show more

Christopher Browning cites this as a major reason for compliance in the Police Battalion, where the
refusal to follow orders could lead to repercussion from peers. In some instances, a refusal to follow
orders could be interpreted as being oneself to be above the orders given, therefore better than those
who had complied (CITATION). To refuse orders simply pushed the one person s workload onto the
rest of the group, meaning that they would endure what one was too weak to handle. This sense of
enduring the impossible also was apart of the comradery of the battalion. Inside of this tightly knit
group was also the idea that those who did endure the massacres and murder were stronger and more
manly than those who faltered, reinforcing that behavior to be desirable. (185). An example of this
behavior can be seen in some of the specific violence against women executed outside of orders, such
as Lieutenant Peters who would get drunk, sneak into Jewish homes and assault women (154). This
sort of behavior is grown out of a situation in which violence and heartlessness is the celebrated

The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan
Food dominates the lives of people. It is used as comfort and fuel. But the controversy is, what should
people consume? Burkhard Bilger s piece, Nature s Spoils, explores the abnormal way of eating,
which is the fermentation of food. It is usually a safe practice, and also produces vitamins in the
making. The Omnivore s Dilemma by Michael Pollan expresses the problem of how humans select
food. In How Do We Choose What to Eat? by Susan Bowerman she points out the influences on
people s life that affects their eating habits. By using Bowerman s article as the keystone, Nature s
Spoils and The Omnivore s Dilemma can be compared and contrasted. Since the food that people
consume daily can affect them in the future, it must be chosen carefully.
In Nature s Spoils by Burkhard Bilger, he follows Katz Sanders, who is a lover of sauerkraut and

Throughout history, American society has famously taken advantage of non European cultures and

have famously exploited the cultures and stereotypes of Native American s and African Americans for
the sole purpose of profit and increased entertainment value. In American society, there has been the
era of Blaxploitation films in which African American s society was shown through raunchy and low

  • 2. An Analysis Of Stephen Dobyns Deceptions Secrets are precious vessels, travelling from a person s heart, out of their mouth, and into another s ear. But sometimes, due to misplaced trust, the vessels do not stay sealed, or protected, as they should be. Rather, they are exposed to the masses, and that person s heart is one display for all to see and judge and interpret. Poems are the secrets of a poet s heart. Unlike Core Competency Inventory and Design, Functional Competency Inventory and Design focuses on and measures the competency (knowledge, skills, personal attributes, and behavior) of functional groups. These groups are based on organization s structure and are the formal groups on organizational charts. These groups have their tasks and leaders chosen by higher management. Functional groups usually have specific rules of operation and clearly defined superior subordinate relationships. For example, in the school setting, the Head Registrar is the designated leader of a functional group of subordinates that includes a number of assistant registrars, liaison officer, and secretaries. What Functional Competency Inventory and Design does is that it measures the competency required for each functional area, as like in the above mentioned example, the Registrar s office, and checks whether the members of the group has the competency required for the functional area. Another way of seeing functional groups would be to see that these functional groups are equivalent to departments in companies. • 12. Behaviorism And The Operant Conditioning Theory Essay It is a fact that people learn differently. Some people learn by seeing, some by hearing, some by doing, and then others learn from a combination of these. For many decades psychologists, theorists, and scientists have all sought to prove to their peers, society and the world that not only do people learn differently but children and adult learning differ also. Learning theories are conceptualized frameworks which describe how individuals absorb, process and retain information. Behaviorists such as John B. Watson, B.F. Skinner, Edward L. Thorndike, Ivan Pavlov and Edwin R. Guthrie believed that all learners were passive in nature and only responded to external stimuli. Behaviorism, as explored by the before mentioned, is a biological basis of learning and focuses exclusively on observable behaviors. This includes Thorndike s theory of connectionism, Pavlov s classical conditioning and the well known conditioning theory from Skinner the operant conditioning model. However, many researchers did not like the one size fits all explanation of behaviorism. Cognitivism grew in response to behaviorism in an effort to better understand the mental processes behind learning. This challenged behaviorism with the idea that learning is the process of connecting symbols in a meaningful way; thus all knowledge is stored cognitively as symbols. Still, cognitivism didn t account for individuality and the input output model was seen as very mechanic. The social cognitive theory was developed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Evaluating the Effectiveness of MRI Technology Learning Outcomes Introduction Over the last several years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an increasingly popular technique. This is because it has been shown to be effective at diagnosing various conditions and diseases in the patient. The way that this occurs is the individual is placed into a movable bed that slides into a machine. This is a large magnet with hydrogen protons that can go through the body to see different aspects of the internal organs and systems. The images that are uncovered can tell health care professionals about the extent of a condition impacting the body. This is when they can determine the best treatment options moving forward. (Albert, 1994) However, despite the usefulness of this technique, there are still concerns about its accuracy and possible side effects. To determine the effectiveness of MRIs requires carefully examining the various benefits and drawbacks. This will be accomplished by conducting a study that is concentrating on a number of areas to include: the search strategy, overview of the literature, methodologies and applications. Together, these different elements will highlight the strengths and the weaknesses of using MRI technology in a modern health care setting. (Shellock, 1999) Search Strategy The basic search strategy will involve focusing on using online and print resources. The different kinds that will be examined include: scholarly journals and books. Symbolism In Victory Gin Imagine living in a society where the government rules every aspect of an individual s life to the degree that their personal liberties are nonexistent and they are deprived of indulging in simple primal activities. Winston Smith lives in a dystopian world where he finds himself trapped in a society where individuality does not exist. The government controls every aspect of its citizens lives for the purpose of retaining power. It maintains its power by using fear tactics like the threat of perpetual war and the manipulation of its citizens minds by limiting expression and speech and controlling the narrative of history. • 29. Essay Raphael s Portrait Leo X with Cardinals Guilio de ... In Nelson Minnich s religious interpretation of Raphael s famous portrait of Pope Leo X, Minnich first begins with the very basics of the portrait; what is contained within its canvas and why it is there. From small clues such as these, he is able to lay the foundation for which theories and conclusions can be based. He first points out the location of the figures in the painting. Minnich believes that they are in a large room, seated before a green cloth on the wall, or cloth of honor. There is some speculation, however, as to exactly where this room is located. Several theorists, as well as he, believe that the location is a room in the Vatican, perhaps the library. He points out that there is reflection of a window in several objects ... The bible is obviously not an unlikely item, being that it is a portrait of a pope, but it is where the bible is opened to that is of importance; St. John s Gospel. Minnich tells us that Leo s first baptismal name was Giovanni, a name that came from this gospel. After inspecting the painting for obvious clues and symbols, Minnich is ready to discuss the possible reasons for the paintings existence. The first being the obvious, that it is merely a papal state portrait. He points out several reasons that this could be a wrong assumption. The painting was kept in Florence and not in Rome, like most papal portraits. It was much smaller than an average state portrait. And the most obvious objection was that there were three people present in the painting, which is highly unusual for a portrait. Minnich then suggests the possibility that Raphael was merely painting a family portrait. But then he quickly points out that no other of Leo s relatives was involved. He also points out that the items involved, a bell, the bible, are not usually in state portraits. With the state portrait theory clearly discredited, Minnich tells readers of the theory that the painting is simply an occasional piece, saying that it was painted just to be displayed at the wedding of the Medici and Valois houses in lieu of the pope and his two relatives not being able to make the festivities. The energy produced by the fission of uranium provides heat which turns water into steam which then turns the turbines, generating electricity. Nuclear reactors are becoming a more common source of electricity with 77% of France s electricity coming from nuclear reactors. It s both safer and easier to build thermal reactors. Most nuclear reactors are now thermal reactors. A nuclear reactor s main components are the fuel rods; the control rods; the moderator and the coolant. These components are all found in the reactor s core. Enriched fuel is placed in airtight rods, these are called the fuel rods. The moderator is the material that is found around the fuel and control rods. The coolant absorbs excess heat produced by the fission process in the reactor. Nuclear reactors are generally enclosed in a thick, airtight concrete and steel vessel. This protects those outside from the large quantities of gamma radiation given off. Nuclear energy is the most efficient source of energy, producing 20 million times more energy than fossil fuels. Nuclear fusion creates more electricity than nuclear fission but needs temperatures of 20 million degrees. Nuclear reactors create nuclear waste as well as electricity. In Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning, the argument is posed that due to the complexities of choice in the Nazi regime, the men involved in the mass murder of the Jewish population did so due to a perceived inability to liberate oneself. While the circumstances surrounding the men of Reserve Police Battalion 101 were often constrictive, these men actively served the Nazi regime and lead to the murder of thousands of people. Christopher Browning cites this as a major reason for compliance in the Police Battalion, where the refusal to follow orders could lead to repercussion from peers. In some instances, a refusal to follow orders could be interpreted as being oneself to be above the orders given, therefore better than those who had complied (CITATION). To refuse orders simply pushed the one person s workload onto the rest of the group, meaning that they would endure what one was too weak to handle. This sense of enduring the impossible also was apart of the comradery of the battalion. Inside of this tightly knit group was also the idea that those who did endure the massacres and murder were stronger and more manly than those who faltered, reinforcing that behavior to be desirable. (185). An example of this behavior can be seen in some of the specific violence against women executed outside of orders, such as Lieutenant Peters who would get drunk, sneak into Jewish homes and assault women (154). The Omnivore s Dilemma by Michael Pollan expresses the problem of how humans select food. In How Do We Choose What to Eat? by Susan Bowerman she points out the influences on people s life that affects their eating habits. By using Bowerman s article as the keystone, Nature s Spoils and The Omnivore s Dilemma can be compared and contrasted.
