Essay on African Diaspora
Part 1: Question one is what is the African diaspora? (Who should be considered in the African
diaspora? How is this like the black Atlantic and how is it different?). Students should use the Colin
Palmer piece to answer this question. In its most recognizable form, the African diaspora refers to the
many cultures and societies abroad that exist throughout the world as the result of the historic
movement, mostly forced, of native Africans to other parts of the globe. Most specifically, the African
diaspora is the blanket term used to represent a confluence of events that led to the forced
displacement of millions of innocent people. The term first originated in the 1950s and initial studies
focused on the dispersal of people of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No diasporic community manifests all of these characteristics or shares with the same intensity an
identity with its scattered ancestral kin. In many respects, diasporas are not actual but imaginary and
symbolic communities and political constructs; it is we who often call them into being. (Palmer) It is
essential to note that the term African Diaspora does not describe any single event, group of people or
set of customs. It represents a current state of being for many citizens of the world and provides
context for understanding the social structures and intercultural relationships of the world we live in
today. Collin Palmer provides great insight into the context of diaspora. He writes that there have been
several movements, massive migrations of people, throughout history. There is no single diasporic
movement or monolithic diasporic community to be studied, but rather a confluence of people, events
and ideologies that span thousands of years, across every continent. Each period of movement, each
diasporic stream, happened for different reasons. Palmer s approach to the African Diaspora begins
with a look nearly 100,000 years into the past. He identifies five major streams, with the first African
diaspora that occurred as a

The South Asian Collection Of The Asian Art Museum
The South Asian collection of The Asian Art Museum, in gallery four, houses The Hindu Deity
Brahmani [Figure 1], originally from Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu state and is dated approximately 875
950 AD. The artist is unknown. Her dimensions are 29 X 21 X 10 inches. In Hinduism, Brahmani is
the shakti of the god Brahma, the creator of the universe and senior member of the Hindu Trinity, and
is one of the seven mother goddesses that may have been located in the temple of her origin ( The
Hindu Deity Brahmani ). The sculpture was created during the Chola Dynasty, also known as the
Golden Age of Tamil Culture, and carved from either granite or hornfels granite. The Dravidian style
of art and architecture attained brilliance under the Cholas, and the dynasty s triumphs are considered
the greatest in South Asia containing some of the most beautiful masterpieces ever produced in India
(Dehejia, 1990). This sculpture is an excellent representation of this goddess, confirming that the
artistic vision of the Chola dynasty is paramount in Indian art.
Equally as stunning, ornate temples were built to house sacred symbols to help Hindu devotees
comprehend the incomprehensible. The temple is considered the dwelling place of the deities and
sculptures of Hindu gods set there is a visual representation used to generate a sense of reality of the
invisible. The temples provided a space for worshippers to perform rituals, leave offerings, touch, and
feel the Gods. The purpose of the marvelous art

I Have Always Had A Love For Dark Eyeliners
I have always had a love for dark eyeliners. For me the accentuate my eyes, and make them look
bigger, while enhancing the green color of my eyes. I had been for quite some time using an eyeliner
jug, which I loved, but at the same time, hated how long it took to apply the liner. These days I m
more about fast, simple, and effective. When I came across Revlon Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner,
Fishnet Jet 660, at my local Rite Aide, I was immediately intrigued. A liner that goes on in a powdered
form, yet is applied in the same manner that a wet liner would be applied. Revlon Bedroom Eyes
Powder Liner, Fishnet Jet 660, comes in what appears to be a liquid eyeliner type container. At the
bottom there is a small pot, where a screw on cap reveals the actual application wand. I seriously had
no idea what to expect, and the in store advertisement was vague, and showed bland color results on
the color menu which was located right below the rack of liners. I went with Fishnet Jet, because on
the advertising it appeared to be the darkest color; yet it also looked as if it had some sort of navy tint
going on. The word NEW stood out, and I couldn t resist it. I went ahead and made the purchase. I
hoped it worked well, because honestly $9.95 for such a small container is a bit much in my opinion.
My Use: When I first opened up the package, I unscrewed the top and found that the application wand
had a large sponge applicator at the end. A lot larger than what I was expecting. I usually

The Death Penalty Is Inhumane
Death row inmates around the world are held in appalling conditions: the cells are not suitable for a
human being; the dietary regime is inadequate; and access to medical care is difficult.
Not only are inmates placed in physically cruel and unusual circumstances, but their mind is also
greatly affected by their situation, with many death row inmates suffering from mental illness and
mental disabilities as a result of their death sentence, stresses the World Coalition Against the Death
Penalty.
The effects of murder cannot be erased by more killing, and the death system prolongs the suffering of
victims families. It inflicts more pain on families of those on death row, and it is inefficient as it has
never shown that it deters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If any one wants to appeal then it becomes a burdensome process for him often resulting in denial of
justice.
4. Lack of Deterrence The purpose of any punishment should be deterrence from repeating the same
act. But, according to the statistics available, the death penalty has not been effective in controlling the
homicide rate. The studies have revealed the shocking truth that executions actually increase the
murder rate. That means the capital punishment does not deter violent crime. According to a New
York Times study, the last 20 years witnessed 48% homicide rate in states with the implementation of
capital punishment compared to 23% in the states without capital punishment.
5. The prolonged uncertainty The validity to the deterrence argument is annulled by the delays,
endless appeals, retrials, and technicalities that keep persons predestined to capital punishment waiting
for execution for years. In fact, we are not competent enough to carry out execution. This uncertainty
and incompetence offers another great injustice. It is itself cruel and a form of torture.
6. Justifying circumstances Sometimes, persons suffering from emotional trauma, abandonment,
violence, neglect or destructive social environment commit such heinous crimes. These mitigating
situations can have devastating effect on their humanity. So, it is unfair to hold them fully responsible
for their crimes. It is our communal responsibility to

The Rise Of The Paleolithic And Neolithic Societies
The beginning of human society began with ape looking humanoids chasing animals with clubs,
inbreeding, and banging on rocks with sticks attempting to make fire. Harsh generalizations, but in an
essence it is true. The Paleolithic and Neolithic societies were a result of the huge leap forward which
marked significant (of the time) technological advancements and more effective social structures. But
a lot of those advancements were the logic to breed outside their families and to save their foods
during the winter, which is fairly obvious considering all societies at the time figured them out. But
the societies that truly stood out for being different and unique in their own developments were the
most influential, like Sumer, the first Mesopotamian society. The Sumerians of Mesopotamia were the
most influential to the modern day world. Around during 3500 BCE(Mertens, notes), they advanced
crazily quickly compared to the civilizations before them. Initially they were groups of free people
and slaves, but eventually as settlements expanded and populations grew, cities developed with
effective leadership. Sumer made the biggest contributions to the modern world terms of social
classes/structures, technology/logistics, and culture. Several of those including the creation of the
wheel, the calendar, the first forms of writing and democracy.
The first huge contribution that the Sumerians made in their time living that continues to affect us
today was their complex social

Emerson Education Summary
Because education is one of the most important aspects of a child s life, it is necessary to make sure
you build the right kind of learning environment. In Education by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he discusses
how the ideal form of learning should come from a classroom environment in which the child is
enthusiastic to learn while also being challenged. Emerson believes that self education is the most
proficient way to create academic success. Because he advocated for more independent learning,
Emerson also supported smaller class sizes so education could become more personal. His idea of a
personal, yet rigorous, learning environment should be implemented throughout Appoquinimink
School District
Emerson s form of education should be adopted by our school because students will enjoy learning
more. If children were given the opportunity to learn about what they thought to be interesting or
important, they would be willing to put more effort and passion into their classes. Emerson writes on
page 194, If you have a taste which you have suppressed because it is not shared by those about you,
tell them that. Despite how schools suppress people s interests, Emerson believes children should still
feel passionate enough to share their ideas. From my experience, our school has a rigid curriculum
which leaves little room for students to explore their own interests. Making learning more receptive to
the interests of the students would not only make it more personal and enjoyable, but it

What Role Did The Greek Gods Play In The Story Of The Morphed
The myths of Achilles are well known, and are mentioned in modern society. But, they have been
morphed to society s desires. This is demonstrated in the movie Troy, where the stories have been
changed for modern audience. The director condensed the story, and changed the story to show some
romanticism and love. This is shown from the absence of the greek gods, significance of certain
characters, inaccurate information, the morphed traits of certain characters, and the falsehood of
romantic presence. In greek society the gods played a great role in the Trojan war, which was not
mentioned in the movie.
The movies depth is quite shallow, as the gods had great significance in the legend of Achilles and the
Trojan War. The movie fails to mention the presence of gods, that influence the decisions of characters
in the Trojan war. This is due to the belief that gods are non existant in modern society. Which
completely contradicts the greek belief system where gods create our fate and influence our decisions.
The greek society was so dependent on the gods that the very success of a human or a battle depended
on the influence of the gods. The only god that was present in the movie is Achilles s mother Thetis.
Thetis had more significance in the war than the movie depicted, calming Achilles every time he got
overwhelmed with anger. The movie fails to mentionthat Appolo guided Paris s arrow into Achilles
vulnerable spot, the ankle. Or that Aphrodite saved Paris s life against

Netflix Vs. Netflix, Hulu, And Hulu
By the end of 2017, over 15.4 million people in the US will cut their cable. Who can blame them?
Cable hasn t evolved in last 10 years and cable is becoming increasingly more expensive annually.
Nevertheless, several individuals are still paying for cable, when we have streaming services like
Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon. Streaming services are a superior alternative to cable because they are
cost effective, more accessible, interactive, and uses an advanced algorithm to learn about the viewer,
and they don t have any commercials. Streaming services cost consumers about $12 a month,
including taxes and other fees. In contrast, cable cost my family approximately $130 per month

Streaming services platforms are much more interactive compared to cable. The viewer can pause,
rewind or fast forward through the content; viewers can change the language if they demand. The
streaming services video player remembers the exact time the viewer stopped watching, so the viewer
can resume their program from where they were left off. Also, Consumers have the freedom to watch
anything from the streaming services diverse content catalog, and they can rate and write a review of
the shows and movies. Also, consumers can conserve their favorite shows and movies in my list
section to watch it later. Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon also offer far more than cable does. People can
watch a wide variety of movies, from comedies to documentaries, which may never air on the TV.
Netflix subscribers can also choose among a range of different TV shows as many times as they want,
even if it has been taken off the original channel it aired on (Binge or Bust? Netflix Vs. Cable TV 1).
Streaming services use an advanced algorithm. This algorithm collects data from the viewers to learn
about viewer s interest. As an example, let say the viewer just watched a comedy movie and if the
viewer gives the movie a positive rating, this algorithm will remember that and in the future, it will
suggest the same kinds of movies to the viewer. This same algorithm helped Netflix create their
original hit series House of Cards. In the

Prehensile Tail Research Paper
Prehensile Tails
Creatures have a variety of traits that make them unique. This can include traits such as having scales
as opposed to fur or having claws or opposable thumbs. As traits are passed down from generation to
generation, individuals of the species that have traits that help them survive and thrive in their current
environment tend to reproduce more. This leads to a higher frequency of the population having this
desireable trait. When a creature has a trait that allows them to survive and thrive in their environment,
this trait is called an adaptation. (OpenStax, 2013)
One example of an adaptation that helps creatures thrive in their environment is the prehensile tail. A
prehensile tail is a tail that can be used to grasp objects in the environment. For ... Show more content

Through natural selection these prehensile tailed mammals were able to reproduce and the adaptation
was passed on to their offspring.
(Mirajkar, 1970)
Regarding adaptations, there are two main types; homologous adaptations and analogous adaptations.
In a homologous adaptation, creatures with the adaptation are all thought to come from a common
ancestor. In an analogous adaptation, the adaptation develops separately because of a common
necessity, but a common ancestor is not present. Prehensile tails would be considered analogous.
While many monkeys have a common ancestor, prehensile tails have also been seen in reptiles and
fish. The structure of each different type of tail is radically different. Some lizards have detachable
prehensile tails, while the prehensile tail of most monkeys is an extension of vertebrae from their
spinal cord. This suggests that they do not share a common ancestor. (Homologies and Analogies,
n.d.)
Another way to classify adaptations is into convergent and divergent evolutions.
In a divergent evolution, a common ancestor eventually gives way to several different adaptations.
Adaptations that come from a common ancestor are called

Reid believes that the NFL, who spent so much time over the possibility that the Patriots potentially
could ve probably deflated some footballs (a completely different topic for another day), didn t spend
enough time focusing on the Washington NFL team name. As Reid said, I find it stunning that the
National Football League is more concerned about how much air is in a football than with a racist
franchise name that denigrates Native Americans across the country. The Redskins name is a racist
name (Garcia). In this certain circumstance, many people agree with Reid that the NFL prioritized

The Female Characters Of Shakespeare s Hamlet
Women have played small roles in society in the past. In social, economical, and political standings.
Therefore in Shakespeare s Hamlet the women in the play, their roles are not portrayed as important.
The female characters in the play such as Gertrude, Hamlet s mother and Ophelia Hamlet s lover are
complicated, and very much opposite of one another. Although these are two different characters
Shakespeare portrays them in a negative matter in their small roles. Their acceptance in the world, and
their grief is not allowed by the men in their life, or of the world. The women have no chance for
redemption in the play, follow the demands, and decisions the men make for them. Gertrude in the
play is Hamlet s mother. Her character is in the middle of the conflict of all the family drama.
Throughout the play she continues to keep the conflict between Hamlet and Claudius as if she is
innocent to not really knowing of the issues going on.(University of California Santa Cruz 1).Of
course the marriage arrangement upsets Hamlet, because it had happened so soon after the death of his
father. Gertrude being a woman she might have married Claudius for a sense of security from a man,
or guidance with owning the kingdom. However she also shows independence (Rogers 1) according to
Rogers Gertrude rebels against her religion, and the authority of her newlywed husband Claudius. In

Salvador Allende Failed Summary
To abandon the imperialistic idea that the United States of America used to justify its presence in
Chile and ultimately regain its sovereignty as the leader, Salvador Allende, had to reconstruct a new
Chilean identity that abandoned the national notion that Chile did not possess a culture of their own or
wasn t literate enough, to govern itself (Rivera 25). Inspired by Marxism, Allende led a socialist
movement that would reshape the Chilean economy through the nationalization of major industries, as
well as redistribute income through tax and land reform. Salvador Allende his rapid socialist

Does The Beak Size Of Probosciger Affect Its Foraging...
Does the beak size of Probosciger aterrimus affect its foraging success?
Introduction:
Probosciger aterrimus, also known as the palm cockatoo, goliath cockatoo, and great black cockatoo,
is a large black parrot of the Cacatuide family (White et al. 2011). The cockatoo Probosciger aterrimus
is often found in New Guinea, Aru Islands and Cape York Peninsula. A bird s beak not only allows it
to eat, but also to groom and feed its offspring. Proboscigar aterrimus has a long, pointed and curved
black beak that exceeds past its mouth. The mouth always remains slightly open, as the lower beak
meets its top beak only at the tip. Its beak is so massive that it exceeds the average beak sizes of much
larger species. The only species out of the parrot tribe with a larger beak is the Hyacinth Macaw, also
known as the Anodorynchus hyachinthinus (Mulawka 179). An observation by Wood (1988) states
that the Probosciger aterrimus is often seen feeding on various seeds, leaf buds, fruits, such as the
kernels of the Nonda Plum Panarian nonda. Other important food items include the fruits of Pandanus
species, Grevillea glauca and the seeds of Persoona falcota.
The species beak allows the species to sufficiently remove the shells of nuts that are difficult to break
(Mulawka 2013). Grant and Grant (2002) argue that the phenotypic variation in regards to a bird s
beak is due to environmental differences, and the food resources that are available within the

Baby is a story about a young man and woman, who fall in love, but Desiree, who does not know her
birth parents, is considered nameless. When she and Armand have a child, they are both very surprised
because the child s skin color is not white as expected. It is obvious that the child is biracial, and
immediately, Desiree is blamed for the color of the child s skin because of her uncertain background.
The truth, however, is that it is Armand who has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

against the stone pillar I whose shadow she has lain asleep, eighteen years before, that Armand

narrator all of the Aubigny s fell victim to the love at first sight theory! Chopin brilliantly explains the
ways of the Aubigny men by writing that was the way the Aubigny s fell in love, as if struck by a
pistol shot (Madden 947) The reader also sees Armand s passion when he is warned by about Desiree
s unknown identity, be he does not care. The narrator continues to say , The passion that awoke in him
that day, when he saw her at the gate, swept along like an avalanche, or like a prairie fire, or like
anything that drives headlong over all obstacles. (Chopin 947 ) Unfortunately for Armand, the
obstacles he and his family Walko 3 were going to face would prove to be too much for him to handle.
As you continue to read this short story you realize that Armand is an arrogant man who is passionate
and very proud of his families status and accomplishments yet despite advancements in the freeing of
the slaves, he remains a racist. Armand is also characteristically a very proud person. Proud of his
heritage because he comes from a prominent, wealthy family of Louisiana. During this time period,

Differences Between Alexander Hamilton And Aaron Burr
The course of events shaped Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr s lives in different ways along with
competing with one another. Folks might assume that Hamilton and Burr were complete opposites but
surprisingly, they were the same in various ways which led to multiple rivalries between them.
Contemplate the old adage, opposites attract, and like repel. (Hamilton vs. Burr) Alexander Hamilton
and Aaron Burr s family background might have caused some resentment between them. Hamilton
simply shaped his own reputation and had the pleasure of being a self made man, but was the illegal
son of West Indian parents. Hamilton was socially welcomed after his marriage to Eliza since her
family was considered one of the most influential in New York. On the other hand, Aaron Burr was

The duel between Hamilton and Burr transpired for countless reasons such as family backgrounds,
personal careers, and political goals. In early 1804, Burr decided to run for governor of New York and
lost partly due to Hamilton s opposition and insults he had written in a newspaper that Burr decided to
act. By this time, the two of them have been rivals politically for fifteen years and Burr challenged
Hamilton to a duel, in order to redeem his reputation and worthiness as a political leader. On the other
hand, if Hamilton refused he would be destroying his career along with his reputation. The duel took
place on July 11, 1804 and is considered today as being very symbolic in the political life of the
country. Hamilton and Burr met in Weehawken and they each loaded their pistols in one another s
presence. They calculated the distance, and had someone else give the command. Hamilton and Burr
both fired at the same time, with Hamilton being murdered with a shot to the abdomen. Consequently,
Burr was charged with murder but never arrested due

The Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man, James Weldon Johnson
James Weldon Johnson s novel The Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man was first published in 1912.
This novel is one of the highly celebrated works during the Harlem Renaissance although it was
published prior in 1912. Johnson graduated from Clark Atlanta University in 1894. He was appointed
by President Theodore Roosevelt as United States consul to Venezuela and Nicaragua. He also was
highly involved in the Harlem Renaissance with his own writings and support for others work.
Johnson was a member of and first black executive officer in the NAACP. The Autobiography of an
Ex Colored Man is a fictional novel dealing with racial identity and the idea of passing into white
society. The Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man depicts the life and travels of an unnamed narrator
of mixed race. The narrator s physical appearance is that of a white man though because of his mother
s African American classification he would also be considered an African American man. He is the
offspring of what is suggested to be a wealthy white southerner and his mulatto or mixed race mother.
The narrator is raised in the north in a somewhat privileged atmosphere compared to the majority of
African American people of the time. During his childhood he fails to recognize his racial identity as
being that of an African American boy until he is asked to sit down by the principal while all the white
kids were asked to stand up. Not long

Depth Perception Paper
We see things with our eyes through different visual cues this is called Depth Perception . Depth
perception is the use of two different types of visual cues to perceive depth, Binocular cues and
Monocular cues (Department of Psychology,2015). Depth perception lets us view items in three
dimensions and the distance of items. We use several cues to perceive the distance (or depth) of the
objects from us and from each other (Department of Psychology,2015). Goldstein (1984) stated that
Cues for seeing depth come from binocular disparity, and also from a range of monocular cues such as
motion parallax, linear perspective, relative size, interposition, relative height, and texture gradients.
(as cited in Laboratory Manual: Psychology 111/112 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Binocular cues are the reason we are able to see things in three dimensions rather than just two.
Binocular cues are what enable us to establish where in space an object sits and its size compared to
our own body. By seeing things through both of your eyes and then conjoining it your brain is then
able to see the world three dimensions. Binocular disparity is there because since our eyes are a
certain distance apart form each other it means that the right eye sees the world from a marginally
different angle the left eye. Binocular disparity allows our eyes to see the object from different angles
so then we can see slightly different parts of the object which help us to determine its shape and size.
Binocular Convergence as Sternberg, R. J. (1998) explains is because your two eyes are in slightly
different places on your head, when you rotate your eyes so that the image of an object that is in front
of you falls directly on each fovea, each eye must turn inward slightly to registrar the same image. Our
brains receive neural information from the eye muscles about the convergence of the eyes, and they
assume that the more the eyes converge, the close the perceived object must

World Hunger In Africa
World hunger is defined as the want or scarcity of food on a global level. Approximately 795 million
people world wide suffer from chronic malnourishment and nearly all of them live in developing
countries (2016 World Hunger and Poverty Facts and Statistics, 2016). The numbers are shocking and
humanitarian food aid is required to save the millions of men, women, and children that are at risk of
death from starvation. There are three primary types of aid; program aid or in kind aid, relief or
emergency food aid, and project food aid. Project food aid is delivered as part of a specific project
relating to the promotion of agriculture or economic development, nutrition, and food security, such as
food for work or school feeding programs (Shah, 2007). The United Nation s World Food Programe
(WFP) is the leading international organization providing food and organizing logistics in disasters
and emergencies all over the world. Two of its current projects are helping Somalia and Nigeria. In
2017, the WFP has provided food distributions and digital cash cards to nearly a million people in
Somalia, and is in the process of raising $1.5 million to combat food insecurity in Nigeria (UN World
Food Programme, 2017).
The principal sources of funding for the WFP are governments. The organization doesn t receive any
funding itself from contributions. Contributions go to those that the program helps. There are also

Gender Roles in Television Essay
Introduction
It is often said that the media and the arts are an accurate reflection of any given community. This is
especially true in American pop culture, where television shows depict the various stereotypes
attributed to men and women and the roles they play in society. House, a highly popular medical
drama that revolves around Dr. Gregory House and his diagnostic team, is a particularly good example
as it represents the true state of the traditional gender roles in American culture today by, both,
redefining and reinforcing them over the course of the show.
In Big Baby, the thirteenth episode of the current season, the show highlights these gender roles by
centering on the effects the recent adoption of Rachel has had on Dr. ... Show more content on

In Gender Role Behaviors and Attitudes, Aaron Devor sheds light on this stereotype:
Feminine characteristics are thought to be intrinsic to the female facility for childbirth and breast
feeding. Hence, it is popularly believed that the social position of females is biologically mandated to
be intertwined with the care of children and a natural dependency on men for the maintenance of
mother child units.
Dr. Cuddy s confusion and fears over raising her adopted daughter indicates a significant shift from
this centuries old stereotype ascribed to women a radical redefinition of traditional gender roles.
Mr. Sensitive
However, this redefinition is not limited to women alone. Dr. Wilson is perhaps the most diplomatic,
sensible, and level headed character in the entire show as he constantly strives to broker a truce
between the clashing personalities of Dr. Cuddy and Dr. House.
In this episode, he reveals his emotional and sensitive side as he attempts to console a tearful Dr.
Cuddy who was struggling with maternity. He returns to her house later on in the episode and attempts
to cheer her up by bringing Dr. Cuddy an age enhanced photograph of a teenage Rachel. He tries to
get her to understand that the motherly love develops over time. He then admits that the photograph
came with the frame and was not Rachel.

Research Paper On Ad Hominem Fallacy
Ad Hominem
Ad Hominem comes from latin and means against the man , is a common fallacy that it is used to
attack the person rather than their argument. It is a lazy and easy way to put down your opponent with
poor reasoning and bad logic. It plays with people s emotion. The attack can be true, but has no
relevance to the claims of the argument and can bias the audience. Ad Hominem fallacies are often
used in politics, media and court.
One famous Ad Hominem fallacy was when President Clinton s infidelity and lies were used to attack
decisions he made as President. Although having been unfaithful and lying about it, it did not
necessarily impact on his work as President. In this case his private life had no bearing on his
professional activities. Ad Hominem abusive fallacy was used to point out character flaws or actions
(it can even involve insults) in order to discredit his status and work. Also perpetrators appeal to Ad
Hominem abusive fallacy to exonerate themselves of their crimes. For instance, during a recent
interview, one of the six perpetrators from the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, blamed his victim s
demeanour being immoral and provocative. Therefore, he claimed that he ... Show more content on

A fallacy is committed when the person is not qualified or is not recognised to be a legitimate
authority on the specific subject of the argument. For instance, in commercial advertisements,
celebrities who promote products for their qualities and effectiveness are not qualified in the field of
the specific product (eg. beauty products, dietary medication, cars). The facts could be true, but as the
claim is supported on the basis that an unqualified authority or a non expert body said so, it makes the
argument difficult to believe. However the Appeal to Authority fallacy is quite common as people
have a tendency to believe in authority and experts, which can make a claim

3. Results and Discussion
The aridity maps was prepared by using De Martonne s Aridity Index, Thornthwaite s Precipitation

These indices showed that most of the southern parts of the country lie between arid to hyper arid
where as northern parts lie between semi arid to very humid zone (Fig 3). Analysis shows the climate
of northern parts is more variable as compare to southern parts. The reason in the variability of the
climate in the northern parts is that this region received rainfall in summer due to monsoon systems

This is quite unfortunate for our agriculture that evaporative demand and water requirement for crops
in whole southern parts of the country is very high as compare to northern parts and it is very difficult
to carry out the agricultural activity in these regions.
Climate variability and change profoundly influence social and natural environments throughout the
world, with consequent impacts on natural resources and industry that could be large and far reaching.
Climate change due to global warming not only started to impact the weather pattern but also
influence the agriculture sector in Pakistan. Pakistan is an agriculture whose majority of the
population depends upon agriculture. Glaciers are the big fresh water sources for Pakistan which
fulfills the water demands in the agriculture land while rainfall fulfills the water requirement of the
barani areas. An increase in temperature was observed in the country especially during the last few
decades which accelerate snow melting on glaciers. The increased rate of glacial melting in Himalayas
has caused vast lakes to develop, and if these lacks outburst, these can inundate towns and villages
below. There is high level of confidence that recent regional changes (rising tendency) in temperature
have discernable impacts on precipitation, evaporation, stream flow, runoff and other elements of
hydrological cycles (Elshamy et al., 2006).

life and that is all they would do to survive. As civilization progressed animals became domesticated

used for cooking. Ever since then humans have eaten a mixture of animal and grown food products

They also provide results from a meta analysis that showed that milk consumption had no benefit for

The New Concepts Of Expressionism
Neo Expressionism revived Australian landscape paintings through the reinterpretation of traditional
virtuosity and the rejection of minimalistic forms (Atkins 2013, 171) from the late 1960 s through to
the early 90 s (Keylor 2007, 904). The new concepts of Expressionism was also inspired by Surrealist
themes from the Modernist period as well as mythology, culture, history and the erotic (The Art Story,
2016). Two Australian artists who create a new perception of the Australian landscape by
incorporating these techniques and ideas were Peter Booth and Brett Whiteley. Booth s metamorphic
Painting two (1984) (appendix one), and apocalyptic Drawing (Catastrophe with flying insects) (1984)
(appendix two), are influenced and explorative of the Australian landscape as well as incorporative of
mythology, Surrealist dreams and subjective imagery (Godfrey 2009, 61). Whiteley s Lavender Bay
series of The Balcony 2 (1975) (appendix three) and Big Orange (sunset) (1974) (appendix 4); are
expressive of the infamous bay in Sydney, connecting to the Australian landscape, however
explorative of different perceptions on a classical image. These two artists both lead astray from the
minimalistic techniques of this time, by exploring the Australian landscape through innovative ways
of expressive painting.

Community Policing Research Paper
Different officers may have different ways to contribute to partnerships. For example, patrol officers
have a unique position to help monitor and supervise supervisees (Parent and Snyder, 1999).
Patrolling gives officers access to the supervisee and their social networks which can help provide
knowledge of their activity (La Vigne, N. G., Solomon, A. L., Beckman, K. A., Dedel, K., Center, J. P.,
2006), this can be very valuable especially in cases which community corrections officers are mostly
in their office and not in the field (Thornton et al. 2006). This can help with intervening before

really remaining under the roof of a house, listening to discussions inside. Eavesdropping is very easy
to perform with IP based calls as compare to TDM based

Satire As A Satire
Comedy is a fickle medium. It is hard for a comedian to predict how an audience or individuals will
react to a joke. Satire is even more uncertain due the medium s socio political nature. The purpose of
satire can be misconstrued due to its tendency to obscure or simplify the point it is trying to make for
the sake of a joke. In Mathew Bevis Taking Liberties , he argues that individuals with different world
views can interpret a satirical piece in very different ways. In this paper, I shall use the satirical sketch
A Politically Correct Minute by the Royal Canadian Air Farce to argue that satire becomes and
ineffective tool in conveying a political message due to Bevis argument that the viewer shapes the
meaning of the sketch. The creator might have tried to establish a moral high ground, but it is hard to
defend due to the medium being reliant on the viewers sensibilities over the creator s intent, thus
making us unsure if a moral high ground actually exists. The Canadian satirical comedy troupe, The
Royal Canadian Air Farce, released the A Politically Correct Minute sketch in October 2001. This
sketch was a reaction to a petition created that year by the feminist organization, The Famous Five
Foundation. The organization called upon the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tim Parks says that if [satire] doesn t point toward positive change, or encourage people to think in a
more enlightened way, it has failed (Parks 2015). When satire is presented like it is by the Royal
Canadian Air Farce, it has an alienating effect that drives us to disdain politics and people with
opinions that differ from our own (Speltz 2015). Discussion becomes near impossible with satire
providing surface level understanding of political issues, especially if satire becomes a person s sole
source of news (Speltz 2015). Critical thinking and problem solving becomes a moot point.

William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
To be an effective society, itś important to have a few key qualities such as teamwork or cooperation
and order. These make achieving goals much easier, and in the end, it leads to success by completing
the tasks needed to get towards the goal, whether that be obtaining food or conquering an entire
continent. In Golding s Lord of the Flies, a lack of mutual respect between the leaders and followers
as well as the failure to unite themselves to work together for the same goals, resulted in chaos, and
ultimately, the division and failure of their society on the island. Without respect in their society, a
balance of fear and friendliness, nobody follows the rules and commands given, and almost none of
the boys remain loyal followers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to have an effective society, it really requires a group effort with effort from everyone to make
it happen. Ralph and Piggy begin to expose the problems with a group divided when scolding Jack. I
was chief, and you were going to do what I said. You talk. But you can t even build huts then you go
off hunting and let out the fire [...] This job was too much. We needed everyone. [...] You could have
had everyone when the shelters were finished. But you had to hunt (70 71 Golding) The followers are
some of the most important and influential people in the success or deterioration of a society. Ralph
was their leader, but not only did people not listen to him, they also didn t do what he told them to do.
Without enough followers listening to him, they were unable to keep the fire going, Ralph s main goal
which could ve helped bring rescue to them. It was much more difficult, and the boys were unable to
efficiently and effectively work to accomplish their goal, the main event that lead to the group fights.
Since Jack and some other boys didn t listen to their leader, they not only hurt their chances of rescue
and survival, but split the group, turning friends into enemies which lead to multiple unnecessary and
unwarranted deaths on the island. Ralph was too friendly, and the boys betrayed him, but they didn t

A Comparison Of Life And Respiration For Speech
A Comparison of Respiration for Life and Respiration for Speech Respiration is a necessary bodily
function in sustaining life. Its basic objective is to oxygenate blood and remove carbon dioxide by way
of four stages: ventilation, distribution, perfusion, and diffusion (Seikel, Drumright, King, 2016, p.
147). Respiration is also vital to the production of speech, but the way in which respiration occurs
while producing speech is different than the process of respiration for life in a few ways. Respiration
for life is a passive process while respiration for speech is an active process, requiring some conscious
effort. During respiration for speech, the respiration cycle is altered in order to maintain appropriate

Thoracic muscles involved in forced expiration include the interosseous portion of the internal
intercostals, innermost intercostals, transversus thoracis, subcostals, and serratus posterior inferior.
The function of the interosseous portion of the internal intercostals and the innermost intercostals is to
depress ribs 1 11. The transversus thoracis are found on the inner surface of the rib cage and function
to depress the rib cage for forced expiration. Within the inner wall of the thorax the subcostals can be
found, functioning to depress the thorax. Contraction of the serratus posterior inferior muscles helps to
pull the rib cage down, supporting expiration. Abdominal muscles of expiration include the
transversus abdominis, internal oblique abdominis, external oblique abdominis, rectus abdominis, and
quadratus lumborum. Of all the anterior abdominal muscles, the transversus abdominis is the deepest
and its function is to compress the abdomen. Positioned in between the transversus abdominis and the
external oblique abdominis, the internal oblique abdominis rotates and flexes the trunk as well as
compresses the abdomen. The most superficial and biggest group of abdominal muscles are the
external oblique abdominis. When these muscles contract bilaterally, they flex the vertebral column
and compress the abdomen. When they are contracted unilaterally, they rotate the trunk. The rectus
abdominis muscles run along the midline of the body and are responsible for flexion of the vertebral

Legalization Of Steroids In Sports
high intensity physical competition would be monstrous for the opposing team, giving the player the
advantage of fear and discretion on the playing field. The use of steroids also increases endurance in
the muscles of those who take them. This may be the single biggest reason that steroids give an unfair
advantage in a competitive setting. Since steroids can increase endurance levels multiple times,
athletes find it easier to run faster and improve their performance in sports, ( Steroids in Sports. ).
Steroids are used to enhance endurance for many reasons. First, increased muscle endurance makes
for much more intense training. An athlete on the juice can train harder and longer than any natural
athlete, causing unfairness in preparation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an article published by Anthony Roberts, he describes the disadvantages of having undesirable
genetics and others having desirable genetics. He goes as far as to say, I d much rather see athletes
compete on an even genetic ground (even if it is evened up by performance enhancing drugs), (
Anabolic Steroids: Leveling the Playing Field? ). This statement is absurd due to all of the advantages
steroid use gives an athlete. In his article he explains that someone with elite genetics will respond
better to training and growth, and though this is true, this cannot simply be evened up with the use of
anabolics. Even with the best of genetics, the human body can only achieve so much before it reaches
its natural limits. The use of steroids gives the human body the ability to surpass this natural limit
significantly even with the worst of

The Sandwich Generation
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to define and address the importance of the Sandwich Generation in our
society. The idea is to introduce you to the term, definition and the participants in this generation. To
show you the statistics without giving the roles, hardships and effects the people involved in this
group would not tell the complete story of this sandwiched generation. I will conclude with ways to
assist the participants to be successful for they too will move on to fulfill a different role as time goes
by.
Although you may think that the name Sandwich Generation is the secession of how the sandwich
came to be after many generations, this is not the case. The Sandwich Generation is defined as a
generation of people, typically in their thirties or forties, responsible for bringing up their own
children and for the care of their aging parents. (Sandwich Generation, 2016). The name sandwiched
was coined in 1981 by a social worker named Dorothy Miller (Miller, 1981), who was talking about
adults that were sandwiched between their children and elderly parents. Even in the 1980 s this group
of people were beginning to be noticed and now making up more than 40% of the population. (Parker,
2013)
The Pew Research Group study has stated that one (1) in seven (7) Americans (47%) that are 40 60
years of age are part of this Sandwich Generation. That is not including the over seven million people
that are helping their family members out from

Evidence Based Outcomes And Utilizing Findings
Evidence Based Outcomes and Utilizing Findings Evidenced based practice (EBP) is now considered
to be best practice but, although great strides have been made in applying the research in practice,
there is still progress to be made. EBP is central to delivering the highest quality healthcare and
ensuring the best outcomes for patients. However, EBP guiding the practice in healthcare systems is
not the norm in many healthcare systems across the United States (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011).
The most overwhelming evidence for using EBP in practice is that is provides better outcomes in
patients and provides a higher quality of care. Therefore, patients are more satisfied, healthcare costs
are reduced and there is a reduction in differences in delivery of care according to geographic area
(Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). Evidence based practice is defined by Polit and Beck (2012) as a
practice that involves making clinical decisions on the best available evidence which is usually from
disciplined research, while research utilization is using an aspect of a study for something else
unrelated to the original research. The two terms are sometimes used synonymously but there is a
distinct difference. In research utilization the emphasis is on translating the information into real word
applications. Evidence based practice (EBP) is broader than research utilization and incorporates
research findings with other factors (Polit Beck, 2012). Many factors work to either facilitate

Examples Of Confirmation Bias In Prison
Frontline: Prisoners of Silence
1.) Confirmation Bias is when someone has high hopes for something to turn out the way they want,
that, in their mind, it comes true (Google, 2017). One example would be playing with an Ouija board.
2.) Parents whose children were/are autistic wanted so badly for the process to work that they believed
it. Even the researchers believed FC worked because in their mind they wanted it to work.
Confirmation bias even played a role in hurting families by accusing parents of sexual assault towards
their children (Frontline, 1993).
3.) Issues in Facilitated Communication were that these children were forming complete sentences and
writing poetry to the point that a ten year old was writing at a higher grade

  • 2. Essay on African Diaspora Part 1: Question one is what is the African diaspora? (Who should be considered in the African diaspora? How is this like the black Atlantic and how is it different?). Students should use the Colin Palmer piece to answer this question. In its most recognizable form, the African diaspora refers to the many cultures and societies abroad that exist throughout the world as the result of the historic movement, mostly forced, of native Africans to other parts of the globe. Most specifically, the African diaspora is the blanket term used to represent a confluence of events that led to the forced displacement of millions of innocent people. The term first originated in the 1950s and initial studies focused on the dispersal of people of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No diasporic community manifests all of these characteristics or shares with the same intensity an identity with its scattered ancestral kin. In many respects, diasporas are not actual but imaginary and symbolic communities and political constructs; it is we who often call them into being. (Palmer) It is essential to note that the term African Diaspora does not describe any single event, group of people or set of customs. It represents a current state of being for many citizens of the world and provides context for understanding the social structures and intercultural relationships of the world we live in today. Collin Palmer provides great insight into the context of diaspora. He writes that there have been several movements, massive migrations of people, throughout history. There is no single diasporic movement or monolithic diasporic community to be studied, but rather a confluence of people, events and ideologies that span thousands of years, across every continent. Each period of movement, each diasporic stream, happened for different reasons. Palmer s approach to the African Diaspora begins with a look nearly 100,000 years into the past. He identifies five major streams, with the first African diaspora that occurred as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The South Asian Collection Of The Asian Art Museum The South Asian collection of The Asian Art Museum, in gallery four, houses The Hindu Deity Brahmani [Figure 1], originally from Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu state and is dated approximately 875 950 AD. The artist is unknown. Her dimensions are 29 X 21 X 10 inches. In Hinduism, Brahmani is the shakti of the god Brahma, the creator of the universe and senior member of the Hindu Trinity, and is one of the seven mother goddesses that may have been located in the temple of her origin ( The Hindu Deity Brahmani ). The sculpture was created during the Chola Dynasty, also known as the Golden Age of Tamil Culture, and carved from either granite or hornfels granite. The Dravidian style of art and architecture attained brilliance under the Cholas, and the dynasty s triumphs are considered the greatest in South Asia containing some of the most beautiful masterpieces ever produced in India (Dehejia, 1990). This sculpture is an excellent representation of this goddess, confirming that the artistic vision of the Chola dynasty is paramount in Indian art. Equally as stunning, ornate temples were built to house sacred symbols to help Hindu devotees comprehend the incomprehensible. The temple is considered the dwelling place of the deities and sculptures of Hindu gods set there is a visual representation used to generate a sense of reality of the invisible. The temples provided a space for worshippers to perform rituals, leave offerings, touch, and feel the Gods. The purpose of the marvelous art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. I Have Always Had A Love For Dark Eyeliners I have always had a love for dark eyeliners. For me the accentuate my eyes, and make them look bigger, while enhancing the green color of my eyes. I had been for quite some time using an eyeliner jug, which I loved, but at the same time, hated how long it took to apply the liner. These days I m more about fast, simple, and effective. When I came across Revlon Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner, Fishnet Jet 660, at my local Rite Aide, I was immediately intrigued. A liner that goes on in a powdered form, yet is applied in the same manner that a wet liner would be applied. Revlon Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner, Fishnet Jet 660, comes in what appears to be a liquid eyeliner type container. At the bottom there is a small pot, where a screw on cap reveals the actual application wand. I seriously had no idea what to expect, and the in store advertisement was vague, and showed bland color results on the color menu which was located right below the rack of liners. I went with Fishnet Jet, because on the advertising it appeared to be the darkest color; yet it also looked as if it had some sort of navy tint going on. The word NEW stood out, and I couldn t resist it. I went ahead and made the purchase. I hoped it worked well, because honestly $9.95 for such a small container is a bit much in my opinion. My Use: When I first opened up the package, I unscrewed the top and found that the application wand had a large sponge applicator at the end. A lot larger than what I was expecting. I usually ... The Death Penalty Is Inhumane Death row inmates around the world are held in appalling conditions: the cells are not suitable for a human being; the dietary regime is inadequate; and access to medical care is difficult. Not only are inmates placed in physically cruel and unusual circumstances, but their mind is also greatly affected by their situation, with many death row inmates suffering from mental illness and mental disabilities as a result of their death sentence, stresses the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty. The effects of murder cannot be erased by more killing, and the death system prolongs the suffering of victims families. If any one wants to appeal then it becomes a burdensome process for him often resulting in denial of justice. 4. Lack of Deterrence The purpose of any punishment should be deterrence from repeating the same act. But, according to the statistics available, the death penalty has not been effective in controlling the homicide rate. The studies have revealed the shocking truth that executions actually increase the murder rate. That means the capital punishment does not deter violent crime. According to a New York Times study, the last 20 years witnessed 48% homicide rate in states with the implementation of capital punishment compared to 23% in the states without capital punishment. 5. The prolonged uncertainty The validity to the deterrence argument is annulled by the delays, endless appeals, retrials, and technicalities that keep persons predestined to capital punishment waiting for execution for years. In fact, we are not competent enough to carry out execution. This uncertainty and incompetence offers another great injustice. It is itself cruel and a form of torture. 6. Justifying circumstances Sometimes, persons suffering from emotional trauma, abandonment, violence, neglect or destructive social environment commit such heinous crimes. These mitigating situations can have devastating effect on their humanity. So, it is unfair to hold them fully responsible for their crimes. It is our communal responsibility to ... • 6. The Rise Of The Paleolithic And Neolithic Societies The beginning of human society began with ape looking humanoids chasing animals with clubs, inbreeding, and banging on rocks with sticks attempting to make fire. Harsh generalizations, but in an essence it is true. The Paleolithic and Neolithic societies were a result of the huge leap forward which marked significant (of the time) technological advancements and more effective social structures. But a lot of those advancements were the logic to breed outside their families and to save their foods during the winter, which is fairly obvious considering all societies at the time figured them out. But the societies that truly stood out for being different and unique in their own developments were the most influential, like Sumer, the first Mesopotamian society. The Sumerians of Mesopotamia were the most influential to the modern day world. Around during 3500 BCE(Mertens, notes), they advanced crazily quickly compared to the civilizations before them. Initially they were groups of free people and slaves, but eventually as settlements expanded and populations grew, cities developed with effective leadership. Sumer made the biggest contributions to the modern world terms of social classes/structures, technology/logistics, and culture. Several of those including the creation of the wheel, the calendar, the first forms of writing and democracy. • 7. Emerson Education Summary Because education is one of the most important aspects of a child s life, it is necessary to make sure you build the right kind of learning environment. In Education by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he discusses how the ideal form of learning should come from a classroom environment in which the child is enthusiastic to learn while also being challenged. Emerson believes that self education is the most proficient way to create academic success. Because he advocated for more independent learning, Emerson also supported smaller class sizes so education could become more personal. His idea of a personal, yet rigorous, learning environment should be implemented throughout Appoquinimink School District Emerson s form of education should be adopted by our school because students will enjoy learning more. If children were given the opportunity to learn about what they thought to be interesting or important, they would be willing to put more effort and passion into their classes. Emerson writes on page 194, If you have a taste which you have suppressed because it is not shared by those about you, tell them that. Despite how schools suppress people s interests, Emerson believes children should still feel passionate enough to share their ideas. From my experience, our school has a rigid curriculum which leaves little room for students to explore their own interests. Making learning more receptive to the interests of the students would not only make it more personal and enjoyable, but it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. What Role Did The Greek Gods Play In The Story Of The Morphed The myths of Achilles are well known, and are mentioned in modern society. But, they have been morphed to society s desires. This is demonstrated in the movie Troy, where the stories have been changed for modern audience. The director condensed the story, and changed the story to show some romanticism and love. This is shown from the absence of the greek gods, significance of certain characters, inaccurate information, the morphed traits of certain characters, and the falsehood of romantic presence. In greek society the gods played a great role in the Trojan war, which was not mentioned in the movie. The movies depth is quite shallow, as the gods had great significance in the legend of Achilles and the Trojan War. The movie fails to mention the presence of gods, that influence the decisions of characters in the Trojan war. This is due to the belief that gods are non existant in modern society. Which completely contradicts the greek belief system where gods create our fate and influence our decisions. The greek society was so dependent on the gods that the very success of a human or a battle depended on the influence of the gods. The only god that was present in the movie is Achilles s mother Thetis. Thetis had more significance in the war than the movie depicted, calming Achilles every time he got overwhelmed with anger. The movie fails to mentionthat Appolo guided Paris s arrow into Achilles vulnerable spot, the ankle. Or that Aphrodite saved Paris s life against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Prehensile Tail Research Paper Prehensile Tails Creatures have a variety of traits that make them unique. This can include traits such as having scales as opposed to fur or having claws or opposable thumbs. As traits are passed down from generation to generation, individuals of the species that have traits that help them survive and thrive in their current environment tend to reproduce more. This leads to a higher frequency of the population having this desireable trait. When a creature has a trait that allows them to survive and thrive in their environment, this trait is called an adaptation. (OpenStax, 2013) One example of an adaptation that helps creatures thrive in their environment is the prehensile tail. Through natural selection these prehensile tailed mammals were able to reproduce and the adaptation was passed on to their offspring. (Mirajkar, 1970) Regarding adaptations, there are two main types; homologous adaptations and analogous adaptations. In a homologous adaptation, creatures with the adaptation are all thought to come from a common ancestor. In an analogous adaptation, the adaptation develops separately because of a common necessity, but a common ancestor is not present. Prehensile tails would be considered analogous. While many monkeys have a common ancestor, prehensile tails have also been seen in reptiles and fish. The structure of each different type of tail is radically different. Some lizards have detachable prehensile tails, while the prehensile tail of most monkeys is an extension of vertebrae from their spinal cord. This suggests that they do not share a common ancestor. (Homologies and Analogies, n.d.) Another way to classify adaptations is into convergent and divergent evolutions. In a divergent evolution, a common ancestor eventually gives way to several different adaptations. Adaptations that come from a common ancestor are called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore in Shakespeare s Hamlet the women in the play, their roles are not portrayed as important. The female characters in the play such as Gertrude, Hamlet s mother and Ophelia Hamlet s lover are complicated, and very much opposite of one another. Although these are two different characters Shakespeare portrays them in a negative matter in their small roles. Their acceptance in the world, and their grief is not allowed by the men in their life, or of the world. The women have no chance for redemption in the play, follow the demands, and decisions the men make for them. Gertrude in the play is Hamlet s mother. Her character is in the middle of the conflict of all the family drama. Throughout the play she continues to keep the conflict between Hamlet and Claudius as if she is innocent to not really knowing of the issues going on.(University of California Santa Cruz 1).Of course the marriage arrangement upsets Hamlet, because it had happened so soon after the death of his father. • 17. Does The Beak Size Of Probosciger Affect Its Foraging... Does the beak size of Probosciger aterrimus affect its foraging success? Introduction: Probosciger aterrimus, also known as the palm cockatoo, goliath cockatoo, and great black cockatoo, is a large black parrot of the Cacatuide family (White et al. 2011). The cockatoo Probosciger aterrimus is often found in New Guinea, Aru Islands and Cape York Peninsula. A bird s beak not only allows it to eat, but also to groom and feed its offspring. Proboscigar aterrimus has a long, pointed and curved black beak that exceeds past its mouth. The mouth always remains slightly open, as the lower beak meets its top beak only at the tip. Its beak is so massive that it exceeds the average beak sizes of much larger species. The only species out of the parrot tribe with a larger beak is the Hyacinth Macaw, also known as the Anodorynchus hyachinthinus (Mulawka 179). An observation by Wood (1988) states that the Probosciger aterrimus is often seen feeding on various seeds, leaf buds, fruits, such as the kernels of the Nonda Plum Panarian nonda. Other important food items include the fruits of Pandanus species, Grevillea glauca and the seeds of Persoona falcota. The species beak allows the species to sufficiently remove the shells of nuts that are difficult to break (Mulawka 2013). Grant and Grant (2002) argue that the phenotypic variation in regards to a bird s beak is due to environmental differences, and the food resources that are available within the particular ... His parents were Gaius Octavius and Atia. Augustus had 3 wifes. There names were Clodia Pulchra (m. 42 BC 40 BC), Scribonia (m. 40 BC 38 BC), and Livia (37 BC 14 AD). He was married to Livia the longest. Augustus was adopted by his great uncle Julius Caesar in 44 BCE. Augustus was called many names but the most common was Octavian. Augustus was the founder of the Roman Principate and he was considered the first Roman Emperor, controlling the Roman empire from 27 BC until he died in 14 AD. Augustus was considered to be the greatest emperor of all time. Augustus came in power after his uncle Julius Caesar was assassinated. Augustus gained supreme power by defeating Mark Antony. Mark Antony had been a close friend and relative to them for a long time. Depth perception is the use of two different types of visual cues to perceive depth, Binocular cues and Monocular cues (Department of Psychology,2015). Depth perception lets us view items in three dimensions and the distance of items. We use several cues to perceive the distance (or depth) of the objects from us and from each other (Department of Psychology,2015). Goldstein (1984) stated that Cues for seeing depth come from binocular disparity, and also from a range of monocular cues such as motion parallax, linear perspective, relative size, interposition, relative height, and texture gradients. Binocular cues are what enable us to establish where in space an object sits and its size compared to our own body. By seeing things through both of your eyes and then conjoining it your brain is then able to see the world three dimensions. Binocular disparity is there because since our eyes are a certain distance apart form each other it means that the right eye sees the world from a marginally different angle the left eye. Binocular disparity allows our eyes to see the object from different angles so then we can see slightly different parts of the object which help us to determine its shape and size. Binocular Convergence as Sternberg, R. J. (1998) explains is because your two eyes are in slightly different places on your head, when you rotate your eyes so that the image of an object that is in front of you falls directly on each fovea, each eye must turn inward slightly to registrar the same image. In this paper, I shall use the satirical sketch A Politically Correct Minute by the Royal Canadian Air Farce to argue that satire becomes and ineffective tool in conveying a political message due to Bevis argument that the viewer shapes the meaning of the sketch. The transversus thoracis are found on the inner surface of the rib cage and function to depress the rib cage for forced expiration. Within the inner wall of the thorax the subcostals can be found, functioning to depress the thorax. Contraction of the serratus posterior inferior muscles helps to pull the rib cage down, supporting expiration. Abdominal muscles of expiration include the transversus abdominis, internal oblique abdominis, external oblique abdominis, rectus abdominis, and quadratus lumborum. Of all the anterior abdominal muscles, the transversus abdominis is the deepest and its function is to compress the abdomen. Positioned in between the transversus abdominis and the external oblique abdominis, the internal oblique abdominis rotates and flexes the trunk as well as compresses the abdomen. The most superficial and biggest group of abdominal muscles are the external oblique abdominis. When these muscles contract bilaterally, they flex the vertebral column and compress the abdomen. The use of steroids also increases endurance in the muscles of those who take them. This may be the single biggest reason that steroids give an unfair advantage in a competitive setting. Since steroids can increase endurance levels multiple times, athletes find it easier to run faster and improve their performance in sports, ( Steroids in Sports. ). The idea is to introduce you to the term, definition and the participants in this generation. To show you the statistics without giving the roles, hardships and effects the people involved in this group would not tell the complete story of this sandwiched generation. I will conclude with ways to assist the participants to be successful for they too will move on to fulfill a different role as time goes by. Although you may think that the name Sandwich Generation is the secession of how the sandwich came to be after many generations, this is not the case. The Sandwich Generation is defined as a generation of people, typically in their thirties or forties, responsible for bringing up their own children and for the care of their aging parents. (Sandwich Generation, 2016). The name sandwiched was coined in 1981 by a social worker named Dorothy Miller (Miller, 1981), who was talking about adults that were sandwiched between their children and elderly parents. Even in the 1980 s this group of people were beginning to be noticed and now making up more than 40% of the population. • 49. Evidence Based Outcomes And Utilizing Findings Evidence Based Outcomes and Utilizing Findings Evidenced based practice (EBP) is now considered to be best practice but, although great strides have been made in applying the research in practice, there is still progress to be made. EBP is central to delivering the highest quality healthcare and ensuring the best outcomes for patients. However, EBP guiding the practice in healthcare systems is not the norm in many healthcare systems across the United States (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). The most overwhelming evidence for using EBP in practice is that is provides better outcomes in patients and provides a higher quality of care. Therefore, patients are more satisfied, healthcare costs are reduced and there is a reduction in differences in delivery of care according to geographic area (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). Evidence based practice is defined by Polit and Beck (2012) as a practice that involves making clinical decisions on the best available evidence which is usually from disciplined research, while research utilization is using an aspect of a study for something else unrelated to the original research. The two terms are sometimes used synonymously but there is a distinct difference. In research utilization the emphasis is on translating the information into real word applications. Evidence based practice (EBP) is broader than research utilization and incorporates research findings with other factors (Polit Beck, 2012). Many factors work to either facilitate ...
