The Dimensions Of Meaning That The Use Of Photography Brings
The Dimensions of Meaning That the Use of Photography Brings To the Artwork
In addition to the two traditional physical dimensions of an image, every photographic image utilizes
seven dimensions. Four of these dimensions are features of the image itself, and are exposure, tonality,
colour and focus. The remaining three dimensions are subject focused dimensions, and include
constructed and found images, objectivity and complexity. (Ang 2013)
Photography, historically, was initially used to supply knowledge pertaining to sexuality through the
observation of the human body. (Gunkel 2009)
Keeping this in mind, Zanele Muholi s Bra (2003), Zanele Muholi, Bra, 2003 attempts to undermine
discriminatory postcolonial notions of homosexuality as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The focus of the image juxtaposes the sharpness of the subject s torso with the blurriness of the
subject s hands, seemingly active in a clapping motion, and the blurriness of the background, adding a
degree of depth to the image, similar to the depth one would experience were they in the presence of
the portrayed subject.
The clapping motion indicated by the subject s hands in the image, exudes a sense of the subject
applauding the viewer, seemingly reversing the roles between observed and observer. (Gunkel 2009)
Roland Barthes in, The Photographic Message, explains that the moments in time photographs are
intended to capture are seemingly a mechanical analogue of reality , a message, if you will. A message
that only becomes discernible after the fact, and it is only then that the importance of the photograph is
embodied. Furthermore, by describing the afore mentioned message it would attach a connoted
message . (Thomas 2010)
Keeping with the afore mentioned notion of the moment in time captured by photographs being
messages, Muholi s Aftermath (2004), Zanele Muholi, Aftermath, (2004) depicts a woman standing
solely in her underwear with a large scar the length of her right thigh. Her hands curled one on top of
the other covering her vagina. (Thomas 2010)
It is apparent that the woman in the image is a victim of trauma. (Van Der Vlies

How Does The Lovesong Of J. Alfred Prufrock Relate To...
Modernism has created a world that has the ability to adapt to the standards of society. The poem The
Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Elliot, is a dramatic monologue which talks explicitly about a
modern man named J. Alfred Prufrock who is from the late nineteenth century and early twentieth,
during a transitional era of traditional norms to modernism. Throughout the poem, Prufrock has an
unknown factor pertaining him; his view on his life has a way of illustrating to his readers a pure
uncertainty with who he is as a person, something which is outrageous because he develops a specific
view on women in the poem. Since, he likes a women in the monologue, Prufrock feels a need to be
very specific on what he is doing with her and when is he going to do it. By doing this, he finds a way
to find out who he is as a person in society. In the poem, The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S
Eliot, Prufrock s view on life is of someone who is lost in their thoughts about their self identity in the
world, shown through the use of modernism and time relativity in the poem. This creates a self
reflection on how people view their own life based upon Prufrock view on his in the sonnet.
Uncertainty and a feeling of timelessness are key factors in which people have a hard time for finding
one s true self. Therefore, T.S Eliot states To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet; There will
be time to murder and create, And time for all the works and days of hands that lift and drop a
question on your plate; (27 30). Eliot addresses an idea of a higher being as a man judging whether
you go to heaven or hell. Eliot is uncertain about how this encounter is going to be because he doesn t
know which version of himself will be judged. This is very nerve wracking because it s two
completely different points of view. Nobody would like to be accidentally get put in the wrong place,
since everyone knows that one day every human being is going to die. Therefore, it s just the matter of
how you want to spend the rest of eternity. This reference Eliot uses useful for this time. Around this
time, their was a huge movement of modernism. This means a lot of people switch from religion to
science. Also, caused a lot of

Analysis Of Porter s Five Forces Model
VALUE INNOVATION Despite recessions and shifting markets some companies grow in revenues
and profits. Why is this so? FIVE FORCES MODEL Until recently, Porter s Five Forces Model was
the dominant theory applied to factors driving competitive forces in an industry. It hypothesizes that
the level of competitive intensity within an industry arises from five specific sources in determining
attractiveness of an industry to potential entrants. Porter developed Five Forces Analysis in response
to SWOT analysis, a model he found too vague. In this economic model, while rivalry between
competing firms drives profits toward zero, industry players understand competition is imperfect so
companies do their utmost to achieve a competitive advantage ... Show more content on

The number of suppliers you need to maintain key aspects of production, the uniqueness of these
features, and your switching costs between suppliers are all critical. The fewer your suppliers, the
greater your dependency on fewer upstream providers, the more power each wields. CUSTOMER
BARGAINING POWER How powerful are your customers relative to your value proposition? The
smaller your customer base, the more concentrated its power. The significance of each customer
within your client base, and the lower your customer s switching costs, can all conspire to drive your
prices down. THREAT OF SUBSTITUTES Product substitutions in place of a company s products or
services are a threat. If your customers rely on you to provide a tool or service that can be easily
substituted with that of another tool or service provider, your market power is weakened. When rivals
become aggressive within a given marketplace a counter response by one or more competitors
typically occurs. A competitor can choose among several options: Changing prices this can result in a
temporary advantage since competitors can quickly follow suit. Improving product differentiation
requires more time, but improved features, improved quality can bear long term results. Using
distribution channels creatively ignore traditional channels through vertical integration or distributing
through non traditional outlets. The major risk in the latter strategy is to the

History Of The Stonewall Riots
Barely minutes after 3 AM on June 28th 1969, what had been a police raid on a known LGBT club
located in New York, known as the Stonewall Inn turned violent. Outside, hundreds of protesters and
sympathizers began rioting against the sudden police force. While the NYPD had been justified in
closing down the club, the events which would follow over the next six days would go on to spark
revolution, and establish the LGBT movement for gay civil rights. It is inevitably because of these
protests that the LGBT community has the rights and freedom that they have today. However, the
Stonewall Riots are not as recognized as a copious amount of protests and revolts, and are a severely
underrated historical event, which resulted in the removal of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Shortly after this act, practicing sexual deviants enlisted within the U.S Civil Service had been
immediately fired after an investigation consisting of 192 suspects, most of which lost their posts after
the accusations. These investigations began after a myriad of Republican accusations saying that the
Federal civil service was a hotbed of sex perversion , (Belderman, The Observer ), and were initiated
by then President Truman s administration. During this time, the ownership of an alcohol license was
immensely important, and could be revoked upon recognition that the bar was disorderly . Up until the
year 1967, selling alcohol to homosexuals could result in a bar being deemed disorderly, thus closing
it down. While the state of New York overturned this law, a multitude of other states such as Miami
maintained them, hence prohibiting the liquor licenses to, knowingly sell to, serve to or allow
consumption of alcoholic beverages by a homosexual person, lesbian or pervert ... or to knowingly
allow two or more persons who are homosexuals, lesbians or perverts to remain in his place of
business . However, the removal of this law in New York did not stop the constant raids on rumoured
gay bars and clubs, resulting in the abolishment of these businesses alcohol licenses, and the arrest of
countless individuals found inside. Those arrested thought to be gay had their names published in
reports and newspapers, ensuing a possible job loss the following

The Penitent Magdalene Analysis
Artemisia Gentileschi is unarguably a key player in the acceptance of women artists in a previously
male dominated field. She was the first female member of the Academia del Disegno also known as
the Academy of Design. This was a high honor for a woman of her day. Overcoming many hardships
in her relationships, and even drawing inspiration from them, she became known for the excellence
and the unique way she portrayed popular subjects in her artwork. Contemporary art critics have taken
notice of her genius and talent in paving roads in an exclusively male field, and for the feminist
perspective she had that was ahead of her time. Artemisia was born on July 8, 1593 to Orazio
Gentileschi and Prudentia Montone. (Bio.com) Prudentia died when Artemisia ... Show more content

Here in Florence she encountered the Tuscan style of painting and completed her work The Penitent
Magdalene in 1620. Her subject, Mary Magdalene, who is portrayed in this painting as a wealthy
woman of Artemisia s time, is a character from the New Testament of the Bible. There is not many
details of her life that are known, but what we do know is that she was a prostitute, who changed her
ways when she met Jesus. This painting is called The Penitent Magdalene, but it could instead be
called The Conversion of Magdalene, because this painting seems to capture the moment she decided
to change her life around. While she was in Florence, Artemisia had many wealthy families
commission her to create artwork for them, and many think that the Medici family commissioned her
for this particular painting. (Koen, Lisa) It is obvious by Magdalene s expensive dress and exposed
shoulders that she is a fallen woman . Her posture also shows her penitence, and the jar of ointment in
the bottom right hand corner is a signature attribute of Magdalene. Artemisia s skill with her medium
is apparent is the rich texture of Magdalen s garment, and in the contrast between her and the
background. There are a few theories as to why Artemisia would choose to depict Mary Magdalene.
Mary Garrard in her book Artemisia Gentileschi Around 1622: The Shaping and Reshaping of an
Artist s Identity (2001) has proposed the following about how Artemisia might have connected with
this particular biblical character:
Both Artemisia and Mary Magdalene were stigmatized as sexually promiscuous in both cases on
trumped up evidence and both had reputations as sinful women ...One can imagine that she might have
identified both with her troubled character s desire to escape the confinement of luxury she found
restrictive, and stifling, and, perhaps, with the Magdalene s yearning to move onto a higher spiritual
plane. (Garrard, Mary

Russia s Peace Policy Essay examples
E.E.C. wrote a letter to the editor of The New York Times in 1899 to discuss their negative opinions
concerning the peace conference that Russia wished to set up between itself, England, and the United
States. They described how even though Russia s tsar might be sincere about wanting to hold this
international meeting, he also has a hidden agenda on his mind that he will not come right out and talk
about. The author thinks that Russia is being very deceitful, so other countries should pay close
attention and be weary of falling into their trap. The tsar might want world peace and prosperity like
he says, but he will do whatever it takes to increase Russia s power, status, and wealth.

This would be a huge problem for the entire world. As Sergei Witte, an advisor for both Alexander III
and Nicholas II, noted in his article, Program for a Commercial and Industrial Policy ,
Russia is an independent and strong power. She has the right and the strength not to want to be the
eternal handmaiden of states which are more developed economically...She is proud by her great
might, by which she jealously guards not only the political but also the economic independence of her
empire. She wants to be a metropolis herself. (Witte, 9)
Witte goes on to describe how Russia is starting to find their place in the domination of foreign
industry. He notes that even though the country is not running at its fullest potential right now, it will
be soon. Russians have a great capacity for work, along with the abundance of raw materials and
strong knowledge of agriculture. Now that Russia has disposed of the serfdom policies that have been
in place for many hundreds of years, it is on its way to becoming a foreign powerhouse. During the
time that E.E.C. wrote Russia s Peace Policy , Nicholas II was Russia s tsar. In 1905, he gave back
some of the Russian citizen s civil liberties when he was forced to sign the October Manifesto. Some
of these rights were included trial by jury

Tuberculosis As A Communicable Disease
Tuberculosis, also identified as TB, has been around for countless years. In the past, however, the
disease was not known, which made it untreatable in most healthcare settings. The evolution of time
made it possible to easily detect and manage tuberculosis before people were adversely affected by it.
It is a disease that often affects an individual s lungs, but it can also affect other body parts. The spine,
kidneys, bones, and even the lymph nodes may sometimes be affected by the disease. The spread is
usually from one person with the disease to an uninfected person through the air. Whenever
individuals with the TB disease cough, laugh, or even talk, the disease is spread through tiny droplets
that are found in the person s respiratory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A high number of people in the United States are infected, which indicates that they have the potential
to contract the disease in the future. For people with the disease, it is often as a result of the infection
becoming active. In this case, the person may have symptoms that are either pulmonary (in the lungs),
or extrapulmonary (outside the lungs) (Lozano, 2012). There are signs and symptoms to look out for
when it comes to the TB disease. Some of the general signs include; fatigue, loss of appetite, weight
loss, chills, and fever. When the disease affects an individual s pulmonary system, some of the
symptoms that may result include; chronic chest pain and an incessant cough that often produces
sputum accompanied with blood. In other rare cases, the spread of the disease may affect the
pulmonary artery, which often leads to massive bleeding in the individual. For the persons often
affected by extrapulmonary TB, the disease often takes advantage of a weak immune system. This is
usually for people with other problems, for example; people infected with HIV and intravenous drug
users. Extrapulmonary TB affects other parts such as the lymph nodes, joints and bones, and the
central nervous system (Jacob, Mehta Leonard, 2009). Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the germ
responsible for the spread of TB, is a highly aerobic pathogen, which takes up to 20 hours to divide.
This is a particularly low rate as compared to other bacteria, and that is why when TB tests are

SUBJECT: Oil Drilling amp; Gas Extraction Industry in the US Analysis (21111)
This report presents information regarding the industry, the primary operator of oil and gas field
properties. The industry fuels its key buyers, the Natural Gas Distribution (22121) and the Petroleum
Refining (32411) industries, with crude oil and natural gas. The industry continuously battles a
shortage of available oil. In addition, many major oil fields have been in use for decades, slowly
waning. Currently, the industry grosses among the most profitable in the US despite these and similar
obstacles. The benefits of investing here ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New firms lacking this versatility may find an obstacle upon entry to the industry (Hersch, 2012).
Additionally, firms in this industry must specialize in exploration and discovery for oil and gas
resources. Firms may struggle finding initial success in this role due to the limited nature of resources.
Long term Resource Depletion
Peak oil refers to the prime of any field s production, after which goes into terminal decline. Most
major US oil fields are beyond peak oil. The largest US oil field, Prudhoe Bay, has been depleting
since 1979 (Prudhoe, 2012). The US Energy Information Administration indicates much production,
particularly in the Alaskan North Slope, depends on world oil prices (Energy, 2012). Geophysicists
and politicians debate over specifications regarding overall US peak oil, arguing the year in which US
peak oil occurred.
International Comparison
In addition to the US peak oil situation, the US Oil Drilling and Gas Extraction Industry faces heavy
foreign market competition. In 2011, the US ranked 3rd in oil production, behind Saudi Arabia and
Russia (Energy, 2012). Saudi Arabia s OPEC governor expects Saudi output to rise steadily beyond
2030 with a 1.5 million barrel per day spare production capacity then (Energy, 2012). Russia holds the

A Good Idea For The Green Party
There is clear evidence that invasive species of plants and animals can cause grave consequences to
native organisms. Charles Mann talks about this a lot in his book 1493, and provides his readers with
several examples of this problem. Some people believe that strict laws should be enforced when it
comes to the movement of plants, animals, and people between distant places. I m an environmental
friendly person and even support the Green Party, but I completely disagree with this. I realize that
this problem exists, but I do not believe that strictly enforcing laws against the movement of live
organisms is a good idea. I believe that we should loosely limit and control organisms being moved. In
Charles Mann s book, 1493, he talks about several problems throughout the world including the
movement of organisms from one location to a foreign location. One example that Mann provides his
readers with was, worms killing terraces in Ifugao (Mann 495). The worm species Pheretima and
Polypheretima are invading terraces and killing them because of their hungry appetite. These giant
earthworms came from oversees and can grow up to two feet in size. They leave huge tunnels and
water sluices out of them, killing the rice plants at the same time (Mann 495). These worms are
causing the terraces to become porous and sponge like, which should never be terms used for a
terrace. Another example that Mann uses is, the golden apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata) which was

Analyzing The Movie The Killing Joke

The Killing Joke as the name goes will make it obvious to viewers to know it s a Batman and Joker
movie because of the well known production company involved in making it which is non other than

I really like animation so seeing this one with all its shadow effects and really good graphics of the
characters. One main part where I really appreciated the graphics was at the end of the movie when
Batman and the Joker stood together laughing and the rain made his hair look tired and worn out
which was actually brilliant giving the fact that they were just in a fight. Another aspect that agrees
with me on how good the graphics were, was the craziness maintained on the looks of the Joker at the
scene where he arrived at Barbara s house to shoot her, dressed in a multicolored Hawaiian tee shirt,
shorts, a manual switch film camera and a revolver. I think all these effects were put to good use in
designing the image of the Joker on showing how twisted he got after his extraordinary transformation
from having one bad day.
The ending of the movie leaves viewers asking questions on what really happened after the shared
laugh between The Joker and Batman and then after which the screen fades to black the screen leaving
only Batman laughing in the background. This aspect was handled in a way to generate question and
discussion concerning what

There are associated ethical considerations to several of the recommended changes. Strengthening the
interview and hiring process will help to eliminate the hiring of unqualified candidates whose only
experience with the work is through a personal connection with existing employees. This will help to
ensure that candidates with the proper qualifications are placed in positions that are currently
experiencing inefficiences. Reevaluating the material suppliers could potentially eliminate any
improper compensation between current management and the supplier and reduce the acceptance of
inferior materials. Increasing the proper storage of accepted material will not only elimate the waste of
improperly stored materials, but also reduces the risk management threat of theft by employees. These
are the ethical considerations of several of the recommended changes. Upon deciding whether to make
or buy products, the company must consider several items. Management must exam the company s
variable cost compared to the costs associated with buying, as well as any fixed costs that would arise
due to purchasing rather than making (Nobles et. al., 2014). Management must also consider what the
company would do with the freed up manufacturing capacity (Nobles et. al., 2014). The quality of
products being bought must be considered, especially since the company will not be able to personally
supervise the production of bought products. While making this

The s Covert Operations Against The Marxist Sandinista...
However, when Casey increased the agency s covert operations against the Marxist Sandinista
government in Nicaragua by funneling aid to the contras, the anti Sandinista rebels, Congress became
concern of the CIA involvement in Central America. Hence, in 1982 it passed Boland amendment
prohibiting the agency from aiding the contras. , Casey continued to find ways to evade the
amendment (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2010).
On January 7, 1984 and February 29, 1984, the CIA mined several harbors in Nicaragua. Later, during
the spring of 1984, Congress found out about the agency s mining of Nicaragua s harbors, which
created a serious backlash against aiding the contras. Consequently, on August 1, 1984, the House of

After Boland II became law, two ways for the administration was identified to bypass the law. One
way was to solicit third party funds from private donors or third countries, and the second way to use

(Ross, 2010).
To this day, the exact role of President Reagan in the Iran Contra scandal is unclear. However, it
appears that in July 1985, in a strategic attempt to build relationship with some moderate elements
within Iran s regime, and to secure the release of seven American hostages held by Iranian backed
Shiite extremists in Lebanon, Reagan ordered an operation to sell arms to Iran, which violated the
U.S. arms sales embargo against Iran s regime. Congressional committees that later investigated the
Iran Contra affair concluded that the shredding of the documents and the death of Casey, left the
record incomplete.
It appears that due to Congress s oversight on the CIA s covert operations, initially, the agency was not
officially involved in the affair. Casey later testified to Congress that he was unaware of all the details
and the agency only had a supporting role (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2010). Nevertheless,
Casey was viewed as a central figure in the agency s involvement in the affair. From August 1985 to
October 1986, seven arms shipments were sent using Israeli and CIA planes. On December 6, 1985,

Descriptive Essay On The Old House
I turned around, looking back at my old room. The paint on the wall is peeling off, the ceiling was
falling apart, and the floor was cracking open. This was the house I have been living for thirteen years,
and now I need to leave. Mom and dad bought this house from an old man, then thirteen years past,
this is 2004. yes, it is already 2004, how fast is it! I stood there, staring at the empty room with only a
little furniture. I can t feel home, where is my home? I don t know this weird feeling. Happy and sad at
the same time. However, if I left, is it going to be an enjoyable life, or it is going to be another way
that leads me to my doom? I kept repeating in my mind. Isn t this what I was always hoping? To leave
this old and dirty house? I told myself to not panic. I turned and look at the broken window, the
reflection of myself. Dark black hair, brown eyes, and a friendly smile. Everyone like me in this
village, if I move to a new place, they will like me too. Would they? Everything is fine as I expected.
But, as I step into our old truck, as I heard the old engine s rumbling sound, I suddenly realized what
am I facing. I am facing the unknown, it s like a black hole, you never know what is going to happen

Is Tom Brady really the G.O.A.T? Nobody thought they would be talking about Tom Brady going
down as the best Quarterback in football history. Brady has been in the league for 15 years and has
broken so many records and has some more to break. Brady also has a 172 51 win to lose record
which is 3rd of all time for a Quarterback, he also has a couple more years in the League. Tom Brady
is the Quarterback for the New England Patriots. He has won four super bowls and has won six AFC
Championships. He is the only Quarterback to be picked in the 6th round and go on to six super bowls
and win four of the six. Brady has also went to the AFC Championship five consecutive times NFL
record, Brady is also the only Quarterback to win six AFC Championships. Tom Brady has had the
best NFL career for a Quarterback ever, being picked in the 6th round many people did not believe he
would be an amazing Quarterback like today. In 2007 Brady had the best season of his career going 16
0, he threw 50 touchdowns and threw for almost 5,000 yards with only eight interceptions. Brady
would go on to the Super ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During halftime of the game the referees tested the balls and they were underinflated. The NFL
announced that Tom brady would be suspended for four games in the 2016 season. Tom brady did not
think it was fair for the NFL to accuse him without evidence, so Brady took the NFL to court. Brady
did smash his phone before the NFL could investigate and use it for evidence a good reason some
people would accuse Brady of being involved. After the season of 2015 16 was over the NFL
announced that Tom Brady s four game suspension was back into full force. I do not think Brady will
try to appeal this time, because he beat the court twice and what is the point when they come back and
suspended him anyways. Everyone has their own opinion so what is yours did Brady really

Network Topologies And The Network
Introduction Network Topology is how computers, printers, and other devices are connected over a
network ( Guide to Network Topology , 2015 ). The word topology means shape and the term network
topology refers to the shape of a network ( Guide to Network Topology , 2015). Network topologies
refer not only to the physical layout of the devices connected but how the devices communicate to
each other ( Tomsho, Tiffel Johnson, 2004, pg 48 ). There are several different topologies and the
choice of a topology is determined by how the network works. The network cabling system carries all
the data from one point to another and the design is determined by how the network should function,
the reliability and how accessible the network should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is used from one end of the network to the other with different network devices called nodes. Bus
topologies are commonly used on LAN networks because they are inexpensive and easily install. In
today s business society, bus topologies are not commonly used and in the past years 10Base2
Ethernet, Thin Ethernet and 10Base5 are examples of LAN technology that uses bus topology. The
structure of bus topologies is where nodes are connected to a central cable called a bus where
messages are sent by a nodes and travels along the bus through all other nodes ( Guide to Networking,
2015 ). Bus topology networks use coaxial cables and at the end of each network segment there is a
terminator ( Hallberg,2014, pg 39 ), The terminator is important for a bus topology to function
properly, without a terminator the data will bounce from end to end causing a signal bounce ( Guide to
Networking, 2015 ). Bus topologies are not commonly used today but were easily installed and used
less cable than other topologies. Bus topologies work best with least number of devices. Bus topology
does not handle heavy traffic well, therefore; if more than dozen computers are added you will mostly
see performance issues. Although bus topologies are has the advantage of being the least expensive
and user friendly, they do have their drawbacks. Some disadvantages of bus topologies are the
network is easily to be disruptive. To add or remove a computer the network has to be completed shut

What Does History And Culture Of A Civilization Shape Its...
Fashion and celebrity, as they are today, are often seen as the end product of a long historical process
of industrialisation and democratisation. How useful is it to see them in this historical perspective?
What does it help to explain? Your answer should discuss concrete examples.
Introduction
Throughout the long expansion of human history, local fashion and clothing have always been a good
indicator that reflects historical, political and economical forces within a society. Varies historical
periods will have corresponding fashion and style to represent their unique value and culture. Multiple
looks with a variety of stylistic influences are stripped from their historical contexts and become part
of a large fashion influenced process (Kaiser, 1990). Thus, our modern day fashion is indeed an end
product of series of historical progression. This essay will aim to examine how does history and
culture of a civilization shape its unique fashion styling and influence modern day fashion by using
China as an example and explore the variances in its fashion development throughout five thousand
years of rich Chinese history.
Over the past five thousand years of Chinese history, fashion trend in China has experienced great
changes in most of Chinese dynasties and each of those historical periods are able to distinguish itself
among others while learn and borrow from the previous dynasty and develope continuously generation
after generation. Those heritage chinese elements has

Sacrifice In The Third Wish By Joan Aiken
Why do we risk our happiness for others? In The Third Wish, by Joan Aiken, Mr. Peters and his wife,
Leita, both have to make sacrifices for each other. In this short story, a man named Mr. Peters is
introduced when he sees a swan who was stuck in a thorn bush. Once he helps the swan, it is revealed
to him that the swan was actually a forest king. The king grants Mr. Peters three wishes. Mr. Peters
uses his first wish for a wife. He gets a wife named Leita, who is truly a swan. Mr. Peters realizes that
Leita misses her old life with her sister. He dolefully uses his second wish to turn Leita back into a
swan so she can be happy again. Mr. Peters, from then on, visited Leita and her sister. He dies
peacefully and happily and never uses his third wish. In The Third Wish, the reader learns how
sacrifice can lead to a person s happiness or dismay. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peters helps a swan adhered in a thorn bush. This act shows how kind and caring Mr. Peters is. At the
beginning of The Third Wish, Mr. Peters stops to help a swan when he hears it crying out in pain.
Since the swan was caught in the thorns, it meant that Mr. Peters risked getting hurt. For instance, the
text says, nevertheless, he managed to release the swan from the thorns. This quote explains how Mr.
Peters could have been injured by the thorns, but he wanted to help the swan.
The theme of sacrifice is made clear when Leita, Mr. Peters wife, decides to stay with Mr. Peters and
gives up her whole life. Leita was truly a swan at first so when she made her decision, Leita gave up
ever communicating with her sister again and being a swan. To show that she did this, the text states
the Leita says, No. I could not be as unkind to you as that... I will stay with you. Leita knows that she

The Discovery Of Down Syndrome
Down syndrome is a common disorder where the child gets an extra copy of the 21st chromosome. It
happens in every 691 babies born in the United States. This adds up to about 6,000 babies born with
the disorder a year. The major points in this paper are: when the disorder was discovered, the
symptoms, the lifespan, the medical treatments, if it is a dominant trait, what chromosome is affected,
and how it is passed down to offspring. The discovery of Down syndrome was by an English
physician named of John Langdon Down. He published a description of a person with Down
syndrome in 1866, and that earned him the title of The Father of Down syndrome. In 1959 a French
physician Jerome Lejeune discovered that the syndrome was actually a chromosomal condition. He
discovered that instead of the normal 46 chromosomes, Down syndrome patients have 47 with an
extra copy of 21. In 2000, a global team of scientists identified and catalogued each of the 329 genes
on chromosome 21. With all this new information scientists made large advancements in Down
syndrome research. There are many symptoms of Down syndrome. The symptoms that one can see
are: low muscle tone, smaller stature, an upward slant to the eyes, and a single deep crease across the
center of the palm. Down syndrome babies can be born normal size, but development is twice as slow
as a non Down s child. The mental side effects are: impulsive behavior, poor judgment, short attention
span, and slow learning capabilities. The

Higher Education for Military Personnel
Education has always been a huge benefit for military personnel. Not only too further one s career, but
for those that wish to seek employment after their time in service. Now employers look more
favorable toward both the experience that men and women get from the service and to include the
education they receive during or after their enlistment. Mostly due to the fact that they are driven to
always do better for themselves and their career. They also have the discipline and respect to adapt to
whatever the future may bring.
In the state of Ohio there are close to 400 colleges and universities, but among them are only 96
schools that are considered veteran friendly. Within those schools they just do the bear minimum in
support for these men and women; where as other schools go above and beyond to aid those. So what
are some of these schools doing to support some of our nations finest men and women? What within
the northwest Ohio region should veterans be looking for when selecting a college?
To really absorb the difference of a university that is considered veteran friendly and those that are
not, future students need not look no further then that of their surrounding area: Owens Community
College, Bowling Green University, Toledo University, and Franklin University. These are some of the
top rated schools for veterans that provide programs where other schools are lacking.
All four of these schools are part of the Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC). This was

Innovative Process Paper
Innovation Process In this current state of the economy, it is important for businesses to make the
necessary changes to stay in business and also remain competitive. With this being said, companies
like the United States Postal Service must make the strides necessary to stay in the mailing business to
compete with the likes of Fed EX and UPS. Throughout the course of this paper, we will identify and
discuss the four basic phases of the innovative process and how we will apply the innovative process
to change the USPS. We will also identify the appropriate tools and techniques to be used in this
process, explain why they were selected, and finally discuss how we will measure our results and what

In the USPS the innovative phase has helped combat the competition of other parcel services and the
internet. The imaginative phase complements the innovative process because some of the ideas are
developed from the problem solving and the artistic way of thinking. The inspirational phase benefits
the USPS by satisfying the customers with the best parcel service to the public. With the combination
of all four phases, the USPS is able to develop new and better services to the public and compete with
other companies in the market.
Tools and Techniques Used in This Process
As a result of declining flats volume, USPS Operations is performing capacity reviews of phase one
sites in order to determine what impact the decline has on planned FSS deployments. The team has
updated site specific models with 2008 volume information to measure the impact. Though all
deployed unit sites are sized appropriately, this due diligence effort continues with a deeper analysis of
trend and implementation data. There has been no decision on repositioning of any FSS units at this
time but they are keeping their thumbs on the pulse of flats volume trends and have implemented
quarterly reviews to ensure they have the right number of machines in the right locations. As the
economy declines, so does mail volume. And that affects carrier routes. As part of USPS efforts to
tighten costs across the organization, it is working to make route adjustments that reflect the current

Three Troubled Troopers

The Three Troubled Troopers
One for all, and all for one. This quote, traditionally associated with Alexandre Dumas novel The
Three Musketeers exemplifies the quixotic camaraderie often associated with soldiers in war. This
camaraderie is challenged in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five, a satirical novel that illustrates the
challenges the protagonist Billy Pilgrim faces during conflict. The book describes soldiers on the same
side acting hostile towards one another, with one soldier, Roland Weary, going so far as beating up his
companion Billy Pilgrim. Through the novel, Kurt Vonnegut asserts the reality of war contrasts with
the idealistic perception of it through the use of diction and imagery.

Vonnegut vividly describes Weary s view of the world: His vision of the outside world was limited to
what he could see through a narrow slit between the rim of his helmet and his scarf from home, which
concealed his baby face from the bridge of his nose on down (52). Vonnegut describes Weary s vision
as being constricted by a narrow slit . This narrow slit is representative of Weary s narrow vision of
the war as a whole. Weary cannot see the whole conflict but can only focuses on his perceived exploits
and how important he is in it. He chooses to see only what he wants his dreamy perspective. Vonnegut
also describes how unsuited Billy Pilgrim is to fighting: He couldn t even walk right kept bobbing up
and down, up and down, driving everybody crazy, giving their position away (53). Vonnegut gives us
an image of Billy as limping up and down and not walking in an orderly, straight manner. This
contrasts with the quick, smart march often associated with soldiers. Billy Pilgrim doesn t fit our
image of who a soldier is, and Vonnegut uses his march to describe soldiers aren t nearly as
coordinated as people make them out to be. Vonnegut s description of soldiers, show that they aren t
nearly as impeccable as one might make them out to be, and contrasts the perspective of war with the
far more imperfect reality of

Illiteracy Essay
With the ease of the access of the internet, there is a boom of illiteracy, not just illiteracy in reading
and writing, but also the way that the way that we interact with each other, such as being emotionally
illiterate. Illiteracy is the quality or state of being illiterate; the inability to read or write. Additionally,
being illiterate is showing or being marked by a lack of familiarity with a certain subject, such as
languages.
Illiterate adults experience poorer health outcomes, less financial security, and lower life expectancies
compared to the overall population. Illiteracy has long been recognized that illiteracy is an
intergenerational trend that is passed on from parent to child. It imposes a considerable burden on the
family or support system of the individual in question, as illiterate adults are highly dependent on
others to function and survive. Family members often must do the grocery shopping, pay the bills, fill
out forms and documents, and manage the financial affairs of illiterate. Children s parents who did not
complete school or have trouble with literacy skills are more likely to be illiterate themselves and are
more than five times as likely to drop out of high school as other children. Illiteracy affects society at
large through the financial burden that imposes lost productivity and increased taxes for welfare
programs, prisons, and crime prevention programs.
There is a link between literacy levels and incarceration. Studies have found that seven

Zimbabwean Refugees in South Africa
Post Apartheid South Africa has been a beacon of hope to the entire African continent. After its
democratic elections in 1994, South Africans were optimistic that life would be better and more equal
in every way. Many Africans used South Africa as a sign of better times to come and when these
hopes weren t realized in their own countries, an influx of immigrants appeared at South Africa s
borders. These newcomers arrived for a variety of reasons, many were escaping violence and torture
in their homelands while others were economic refugees who were seeking employment in South
Africa s growing economy.
I will describe the national immigration policy in South Africa as well as focus on Zimbabweans, who

The criteria for the program included proof of formal employment, a specified salary, and the payment
of the initial deposit and monthly installments (Zimbabwe, 4). The government was hoping to expel
the poor from urban areas, forcing them to the city outskirts and eventually out of sight back to rural
areas. The obstruction of international humanitarian assistance, the forced involuntary relocation to
rural areas as well as restrictions on their economic activities highlights quite a predicament that some
700,000 Zimbabweans were in (Zimbabwe, 23).
Those who escape do not necessarily trade their rags for riches. South Africa has had to adjust to the
influx of immigrants and simply has not been able to provide the necessary services for the many
thousands who are trying to integrate into the country. The Zimbabwe Torture Victims Project (ZVTP)
asked respondents whether they had ever been direct victims of violence and/ or torture, and whether
they had been threatened or intimidated by members or supporters of a political party or the security
forces. 30% said they had been direct victims of violence or torture. Of these, 47% can be identified as
having clinically significant psychological disorders and the prevalence rate overall was 14%
(Zimbabwe Torture Victims Project, 10). Despite this data, little resources are available to treat or to
alleviate the problems these individuals face.

Dating Is The Best Husband A Woman
Dating Methods
An archaeologist is the best husband a woman can have.
The older she gets the more interested he is in her. A. Christie
Archaeological dating methods can be divided in two categories, relative and absolute dating. Relative
dating in archaeology presumes the age of an artefact in relation and by comparison, to other objects
found around it. Limits for relative dating are that it cannot provide an accurate year or a specific date
of use, it is a more subjective approach. A more precise and accurate archaeology dating system is
known as absolute dating and can in most circumstances provide a calendar year to an object .
Absolute dating is in my opinion the way to go because it allows for a more precise and more
scientific answers. Within the absolute dating techniques, Carbon 14 seems to be the golden standard
as Renfrew and Bahn state: Radiocarbon is the single most useful method of dating for the
archaeologist, even though it has some limitations. Important to note is that, the relatively short half
life of carbon 14, 5,730 years, makes the reliability only up to about 75,000 years. As the case study of
the royal tomb of Solokha revealed, it is not a perfect method, but currently, it is as close as it gets.
First, radiocarbon looks at the subatomic particles that constantly bombard the earth and produce high
energy neutrons. When the neutrons collide with the nitrogen atoms present in the earth s atmosphere,
they produce atoms of Carbon 14. These atoms

The Federal Bureau Of Investigation
After the terrorist attacks in San Bernardino, the United States government, specifically the Federal
Bureau of Investigation was in a dispute with the technology company Apple. The FBI seized the
iPhone of Syed Farook who along with his wife Tasfeen Malik killed 14 people and injured 22. Farook
and his wife were then killed in a shootout with the police. However, the FBI could not bypass the
security code that Farook placed on his phone, and access information within the device. Therefore,
the bureau requested that Apple create a backdoor which is a mean of access to a computer program
that bypasses the programs security measures. Apple refused to comply with the bureau s request as
the company argued that it would jeopardize the privacy of their customers and is an overreach of
state power. Thus, the conflict was going to be decided legally, until the FBI canceled the first court
hearing with Apple. The FBI was able to unlock Farook s phone without Apple s help through a third
party company. But the government s actions set in place a dangerous precedent. By creating a back
door, the government is able to access information on any Apple device and has weakened the
company s cyber security. To prevent further legal disputes, Congress and the president should create
a modern law that can balance the interests of national security and privacy in the 21st century. Sheri
Pym, a California district court magistrate judge, ordered Apple to create new software or a backdoor

Classification Of Soils As Well As Overcoming Management...
Introduction
Soil classification is the categorisation of soils into groups at various levels of generalisation
according to their physical, chemical and mineralogical properties (Boul et al 2011:34). The formation
and subsequently the classification of soil has been at the forefront of geological scientific research
since its emergence in the 19th Century.
Over the course of this essay I will be considering the various classifications of soils as well as
overcoming management problems they may entail.
How can soil be classified in the UK?
It is important to be able to distinguish between soil types across farmed landscape, and classification
is the main way this can be achieved (Soffe, 2003:24). One common practice used to record
classification is through mapping; carried out on varying scales by National Soil Resources Institute
for England and Wales based on differences and similarities in soil profile investigations (Soffe,
2003:24; Simpson 1983:47).
Soils can be classified based on their structural and textural properties, formed from Parent material
(Soffe 2003:23). The primary components of soil comprise the Texture, this relating to the range of
sizes of particles in the soil and their distribution. (The Macaulay Institute, 2016;Soffe, 2003:3). The
texture of specific soil types will fall into one of 4 classifications; Clay, Silt, Sand or in some cases an
equal percentage of each to form Loam.
Soil Structure is influenced almost solely by Soil Texture (The

  • 2. The Dimensions Of Meaning That The Use Of Photography Brings The Dimensions of Meaning That the Use of Photography Brings To the Artwork In addition to the two traditional physical dimensions of an image, every photographic image utilizes seven dimensions. Four of these dimensions are features of the image itself, and are exposure, tonality, colour and focus. The remaining three dimensions are subject focused dimensions, and include constructed and found images, objectivity and complexity. (Ang 2013) Photography, historically, was initially used to supply knowledge pertaining to sexuality through the observation of the human body. (Gunkel 2009) Keeping this in mind, Zanele Muholi s Bra (2003), Zanele Muholi, Bra, 2003 attempts to undermine discriminatory postcolonial notions of homosexuality as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The focus of the image juxtaposes the sharpness of the subject s torso with the blurriness of the subject s hands, seemingly active in a clapping motion, and the blurriness of the background, adding a degree of depth to the image, similar to the depth one would experience were they in the presence of the portrayed subject. The clapping motion indicated by the subject s hands in the image, exudes a sense of the subject applauding the viewer, seemingly reversing the roles between observed and observer. (Gunkel 2009) Roland Barthes in, The Photographic Message, explains that the moments in time photographs are intended to capture are seemingly a mechanical analogue of reality , a message, if you will. A message that only becomes discernible after the fact, and it is only then that the importance of the photograph is embodied. Furthermore, by describing the afore mentioned message it would attach a connoted message . (Thomas 2010) Keeping with the afore mentioned notion of the moment in time captured by photographs being messages, Muholi s Aftermath (2004), Zanele Muholi, Aftermath, (2004) depicts a woman standing solely in her underwear with a large scar the length of her right thigh. Her hands curled one on top of the other covering her vagina. (Thomas 2010) It is apparent that the woman in the image is a victim of trauma. (Van Der Vlies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Does The Lovesong Of J. Alfred Prufrock Relate To... Modernism has created a world that has the ability to adapt to the standards of society. The poem The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Elliot, is a dramatic monologue which talks explicitly about a modern man named J. Alfred Prufrock who is from the late nineteenth century and early twentieth, during a transitional era of traditional norms to modernism. Throughout the poem, Prufrock has an unknown factor pertaining him; his view on his life has a way of illustrating to his readers a pure uncertainty with who he is as a person, something which is outrageous because he develops a specific view on women in the poem. Since, he likes a women in the monologue, Prufrock feels a need to be very specific on what he is doing with her and when is he going to do it. By doing this, he finds a way to find out who he is as a person in society. In the poem, The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S Eliot, Prufrock s view on life is of someone who is lost in their thoughts about their self identity in the world, shown through the use of modernism and time relativity in the poem. This creates a self reflection on how people view their own life based upon Prufrock view on his in the sonnet. Uncertainty and a feeling of timelessness are key factors in which people have a hard time for finding one s true self. Therefore, T.S Eliot states To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet; There will be time to murder and create, And time for all the works and days of hands that lift and drop a question on your plate; (27 30). Eliot addresses an idea of a higher being as a man judging whether you go to heaven or hell. Eliot is uncertain about how this encounter is going to be because he doesn t know which version of himself will be judged. This is very nerve wracking because it s two completely different points of view. Nobody would like to be accidentally get put in the wrong place, since everyone knows that one day every human being is going to die. Therefore, it s just the matter of how you want to spend the rest of eternity. This reference Eliot uses useful for this time. Around this time, their was a huge movement of modernism. This means a lot of people switch from religion to science. Also, caused a lot of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Porter s Five Forces Model VALUE INNOVATION Despite recessions and shifting markets some companies grow in revenues and profits. Why is this so? FIVE FORCES MODEL Until recently, Porter s Five Forces Model was the dominant theory applied to factors driving competitive forces in an industry. It hypothesizes that the level of competitive intensity within an industry arises from five specific sources in determining attractiveness of an industry to potential entrants. Porter developed Five Forces Analysis in response to SWOT analysis, a model he found too vague. In this economic model, while rivalry between competing firms drives profits toward zero, industry players understand competition is imperfect so companies do their utmost to achieve a competitive advantage ... The number of suppliers you need to maintain key aspects of production, the uniqueness of these features, and your switching costs between suppliers are all critical. The fewer your suppliers, the greater your dependency on fewer upstream providers, the more power each wields. CUSTOMER BARGAINING POWER How powerful are your customers relative to your value proposition? The smaller your customer base, the more concentrated its power. The significance of each customer within your client base, and the lower your customer s switching costs, can all conspire to drive your prices down. THREAT OF SUBSTITUTES Product substitutions in place of a company s products or services are a threat. If your customers rely on you to provide a tool or service that can be easily substituted with that of another tool or service provider, your market power is weakened. When rivals become aggressive within a given marketplace a counter response by one or more competitors typically occurs. A competitor can choose among several options: Changing prices this can result in a temporary advantage since competitors can quickly follow suit. Improving product differentiation requires more time, but improved features, improved quality can bear long term results. Using distribution channels creatively ignore traditional channels through vertical integration or distributing through non traditional outlets. The major risk in the latter strategy is to the ... • 7. History Of The Stonewall Riots Barely minutes after 3 AM on June 28th 1969, what had been a police raid on a known LGBT club located in New York, known as the Stonewall Inn turned violent. Outside, hundreds of protesters and sympathizers began rioting against the sudden police force. While the NYPD had been justified in closing down the club, the events which would follow over the next six days would go on to spark revolution, and establish the LGBT movement for gay civil rights. It is inevitably because of these protests that the LGBT community has the rights and freedom that they have today. However, the Stonewall Riots are not as recognized as a copious amount of protests and revolts, and are a severely underrated historical event, which resulted in the removal of ... Shortly after this act, practicing sexual deviants enlisted within the U.S Civil Service had been immediately fired after an investigation consisting of 192 suspects, most of which lost their posts after the accusations. These investigations began after a myriad of Republican accusations saying that the Federal civil service was a hotbed of sex perversion , (Belderman, The Observer ), and were initiated by then President Truman s administration. During this time, the ownership of an alcohol license was immensely important, and could be revoked upon recognition that the bar was disorderly . Up until the year 1967, selling alcohol to homosexuals could result in a bar being deemed disorderly, thus closing it down. While the state of New York overturned this law, a multitude of other states such as Miami maintained them, hence prohibiting the liquor licenses to, knowingly sell to, serve to or allow consumption of alcoholic beverages by a homosexual person, lesbian or pervert ... or to knowingly allow two or more persons who are homosexuals, lesbians or perverts to remain in his place of business . However, the removal of this law in New York did not stop the constant raids on rumoured gay bars and clubs, resulting in the abolishment of these businesses alcohol licenses, and the arrest of countless individuals found inside. • 8. The Penitent Magdalene Analysis Artemisia Gentileschi is unarguably a key player in the acceptance of women artists in a previously male dominated field. She was the first female member of the Academia del Disegno also known as the Academy of Design. This was a high honor for a woman of her day. Overcoming many hardships in her relationships, and even drawing inspiration from them, she became known for the excellence and the unique way she portrayed popular subjects in her artwork. Contemporary art critics have taken notice of her genius and talent in paving roads in an exclusively male field, and for the feminist perspective she had that was ahead of her time. Artemisia was born on July 8, 1593 to Orazio Gentileschi and Prudentia Montone. (Bio.com) Prudentia died when Artemisia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here in Florence she encountered the Tuscan style of painting and completed her work The Penitent Magdalene in 1620. Her subject, Mary Magdalene, who is portrayed in this painting as a wealthy woman of Artemisia s time, is a character from the New Testament of the Bible. There is not many details of her life that are known, but what we do know is that she was a prostitute, who changed her ways when she met Jesus. This painting is called The Penitent Magdalene, but it could instead be called The Conversion of Magdalene, because this painting seems to capture the moment she decided to change her life around. While she was in Florence, Artemisia had many wealthy families commission her to create artwork for them, and many think that the Medici family commissioned her for this particular painting. (Koen, Lisa) It is obvious by Magdalene s expensive dress and exposed shoulders that she is a fallen woman . Her posture also shows her penitence, and the jar of ointment in the bottom right hand corner is a signature attribute of Magdalene. Artemisia s skill with her medium is apparent is the rich texture of Magdalen s garment, and in the contrast between her and the background. There are a few theories as to why Artemisia would choose to depict Mary Magdalene. Mary Garrard in her book Artemisia Gentileschi Around 1622: The Shaping and Reshaping of an Artist s Identity (2001) has proposed the following about how Artemisia might have connected with this particular biblical character: Both Artemisia and Mary Magdalene were stigmatized as sexually promiscuous in both cases on trumped up evidence and both had reputations as sinful women ...One can imagine that she might have identified both with her troubled character s desire to escape the confinement of luxury she found restrictive, and stifling, and, perhaps, with the Magdalene s yearning to move onto a higher spiritual plane. • 9. Russia s Peace Policy Essay examples E.E.C. wrote a letter to the editor of The New York Times in 1899 to discuss their negative opinions concerning the peace conference that Russia wished to set up between itself, England, and the United States. They described how even though Russia s tsar might be sincere about wanting to hold this international meeting, he also has a hidden agenda on his mind that he will not come right out and talk about. The author thinks that Russia is being very deceitful, so other countries should pay close attention and be weary of falling into their trap. In the past, however, the disease was not known, which made it untreatable in most healthcare settings. The evolution of time made it possible to easily detect and manage tuberculosis before people were adversely affected by it. It is a disease that often affects an individual s lungs, but it can also affect other body parts. The spine, kidneys, bones, and even the lymph nodes may sometimes be affected by the disease. In this case, the person may have symptoms that are either pulmonary (in the lungs), or extrapulmonary (outside the lungs) (Lozano, 2012). There are signs and symptoms to look out for when it comes to the TB disease. Some of the general signs include; fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, chills, and fever. When the disease affects an individual s pulmonary system, some of the symptoms that may result include; chronic chest pain and an incessant cough that often produces sputum accompanied with blood. In other rare cases, the spread of the disease may affect the pulmonary artery, which often leads to massive bleeding in the individual. For the persons often affected by extrapulmonary TB, the disease often takes advantage of a weak immune system. This is usually for people with other problems, for example; people infected with HIV and intravenous drug users. Extrapulmonary TB affects other parts such as the lymph nodes, joints and bones, and the central nervous system (Jacob, Mehta Leonard, 2009). Charles Mann talks about this a lot in his book 1493, and provides his readers with several examples of this problem. Some people believe that strict laws should be enforced when it comes to the movement of plants, animals, and people between distant places. I m an environmental friendly person and even support the Green Party, but I completely disagree with this. I realize that this problem exists, but I do not believe that strictly enforcing laws against the movement of live organisms is a good idea. I believe that we should loosely limit and control organisms being moved. In Charles Mann s book, 1493, he talks about several problems throughout the world including the movement of organisms from one location to a foreign location. One example that Mann provides his readers with was, worms killing terraces in Ifugao (Mann 495). The worm species Pheretima and Polypheretima are invading terraces and killing them because of their hungry appetite. These giant earthworms came from oversees and can grow up to two feet in size. They leave huge tunnels and water sluices out of them, killing the rice plants at the same time (Mann 495). The structure of bus topologies is where nodes are connected to a central cable called a bus where messages are sent by a nodes and travels along the bus through all other nodes ( Guide to Networking, 2015 ). Bus topology networks use coaxial cables and at the end of each network segment there is a terminator ( Hallberg,2014, pg 39 ), The terminator is important for a bus topology to function properly, without a terminator the data will bounce from end to end causing a signal bounce ( Guide to Networking, 2015 ). Family members often must do the grocery shopping, pay the bills, fill out forms and documents, and manage the financial affairs of illiterate. Children s parents who did not complete school or have trouble with literacy skills are more likely to be illiterate themselves and are more than five times as likely to drop out of high school as other children. Illiteracy affects society at large through the financial burden that imposes lost productivity and increased taxes for welfare programs, prisons, and crime prevention programs. There is a link between literacy levels and incarceration. Studies have found that seven ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Zimbabwean Refugees in South Africa Post Apartheid South Africa has been a beacon of hope to the entire African continent. After its democratic elections in 1994, South Africans were optimistic that life would be better and more equal in every way. Many Africans used South Africa as a sign of better times to come and when these hopes weren t realized in their own countries, an influx of immigrants appeared at South Africa s borders. These newcomers arrived for a variety of reasons, many were escaping violence and torture in their homelands while others were economic refugees who were seeking employment in South Africa s growing economy. I will describe the national immigration policy in South Africa as well as focus on Zimbabweans, who make up the majority of foreigners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The criteria for the program included proof of formal employment, a specified salary, and the payment of the initial deposit and monthly installments (Zimbabwe, 4). The government was hoping to expel the poor from urban areas, forcing them to the city outskirts and eventually out of sight back to rural areas. The obstruction of international humanitarian assistance, the forced involuntary relocation to rural areas as well as restrictions on their economic activities highlights quite a predicament that some 700,000 Zimbabweans were in (Zimbabwe, 23). Those who escape do not necessarily trade their rags for riches. South Africa has had to adjust to the influx of immigrants and simply has not been able to provide the necessary services for the many thousands who are trying to integrate into the country. The Zimbabwe Torture Victims Project (ZVTP) asked respondents whether they had ever been direct victims of violence and/ or torture, and whether they had been threatened or intimidated by members or supporters of a political party or the security forces. 30% said they had been direct victims of violence or torture. Of these, 47% can be identified as having clinically significant psychological disorders and the prevalence rate overall was 14% (Zimbabwe Torture Victims Project, 10). Despite this data, little resources are available to treat or to alleviate the problems these individuals face. Problems with Documented Immigration in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Dating Is The Best Husband A Woman Dating Methods An archaeologist is the best husband a woman can have. The older she gets the more interested he is in her. A. Christie Archaeological dating methods can be divided in two categories, relative and absolute dating. Relative dating in archaeology presumes the age of an artefact in relation and by comparison, to other objects found around it. Limits for relative dating are that it cannot provide an accurate year or a specific date of use, it is a more subjective approach. A more precise and accurate archaeology dating system is known as absolute dating and can in most circumstances provide a calendar year to an object . Absolute dating is in my opinion the way to go because it allows for a more precise and more scientific answers. Within the absolute dating techniques, Carbon 14 seems to be the golden standard as Renfrew and Bahn state: Radiocarbon is the single most useful method of dating for the archaeologist, even though it has some limitations. Important to note is that, the relatively short half life of carbon 14, 5,730 years, makes the reliability only up to about 75,000 years. As the case study of the royal tomb of Solokha revealed, it is not a perfect method, but currently, it is as close as it gets. First, radiocarbon looks at the subatomic particles that constantly bombard the earth and produce high energy neutrons. When the neutrons collide with the nitrogen atoms present in the earth s atmosphere, they produce atoms of Carbon 14. These atoms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Federal Bureau Of Investigation After the terrorist attacks in San Bernardino, the United States government, specifically the Federal Bureau of Investigation was in a dispute with the technology company Apple. The FBI seized the iPhone of Syed Farook who along with his wife Tasfeen Malik killed 14 people and injured 22. Farook and his wife were then killed in a shootout with the police. However, the FBI could not bypass the security code that Farook placed on his phone, and access information within the device. Therefore, the bureau requested that Apple create a backdoor which is a mean of access to a computer program that bypasses the programs security measures. Apple refused to comply with the bureau s request as the company argued that it would jeopardize the privacy of their customers and is an overreach of state power. Thus, the conflict was going to be decided legally, until the FBI canceled the first court hearing with Apple. The FBI was able to unlock Farook s phone without Apple s help through a third party company. But the government s actions set in place a dangerous precedent. By creating a back door, the government is able to access information on any Apple device and has weakened the company s cyber security. To prevent further legal disputes, Congress and the president should create a modern law that can balance the interests of national security and privacy in the 21st century. Sheri Pym, a California district court magistrate judge, ordered Apple to create new software or a backdoor to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. First Heart Transplants 1 FIRST HEART TRANSPLANT PAPER God planted in every single human the desire to live, and knowing that, men have searched for so many ways to live a longer life. Knowing so many humans were dying because of their heart not functioning well and looking at others die with a perfectly healthy heart gave humans a great idea! The idea of saving people s life through a heart transplant, something never on earth heard of but worth giving a try. The research of a finding a way to give a heart transplant to many people with heart diseases had begun. From the late 1700s until the early 1900s, many different scientist began gathering all types of information. Surgeons back then would transplant organs in the lab research, and many of those transplants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was in December that Lewis Washkansky was given more life by a group of surgeons. The face of Washkansky showed how proud he was after the surgery. I m pretty sure that smile gave surgeons a motivation to continue to bless more people with their life giving techniques. 2 FIRST HEART TRANSPLANT PAPER Unfortunately, like any other subject there had to be more improvements in the transplant surgery. After the surgery, Lewis was prescribed medications to restrain his immune system and keep his body from rejecting the heart. Sadly after eighteen days of the surgery Lewis Washkansky passed away. Doctors say his heart functioned really well until the day he died. Lewis Washkansky gave surgeons the motivation to keep working on heart transplants because they were successful! Nowadays, doctors, scientist, all of us are searching for a way to live a longer or fulfilled life. We have heart transplants successfully functioning thanks to many scientist who worked hard to look over every small detail to come up with a perfect heart transplant. To this day humans keep searching for ways to make other s lives easier. All because God gave us the desire of wanting to live for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Classification Of Soils As Well As Overcoming Management... Introduction Soil classification is the categorisation of soils into groups at various levels of generalisation according to their physical, chemical and mineralogical properties (Boul et al 2011:34). The formation and subsequently the classification of soil has been at the forefront of geological scientific research since its emergence in the 19th Century. Over the course of this essay I will be considering the various classifications of soils as well as overcoming management problems they may entail. How can soil be classified in the UK? It is important to be able to distinguish between soil types across farmed landscape, and classification is the main way this can be achieved (Soffe, 2003:24). One common practice used to record classification is through mapping; carried out on varying scales by National Soil Resources Institute for England and Wales based on differences and similarities in soil profile investigations (Soffe, 2003:24; Simpson 1983:47). Soils can be classified based on their structural and textural properties, formed from Parent material (Soffe 2003:23). The primary components of soil comprise the Texture, this relating to the range of sizes of particles in the soil and their distribution. (The Macaulay Institute, 2016;Soffe, 2003:3). The texture of specific soil types will fall into one of 4 classifications; Clay, Silt, Sand or in some cases an equal percentage of each to form Loam. Soil Structure is influenced almost solely by Soil Texture (The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
