Death And King s Horseman By Wole Soyinka
Death and King s Horseman by Wole Soyinka and Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe both take
place in Africa but in different areas. Authors Soyinka and Achebe, created main characters that came
from different tribes, but experienced similar cultural clashes, which led to an issue of suicide within
African culture. The context of these books view on suicide differs in each culture. Although each
work has a different attitude toward suicide, both deal with it through the characters, Elisen from the
Yoruba tribe in Death and King s Horseman and Okonkwo from the Igbo tribe in Things Fall Apart,
within their own African cultures. Elisen and Okonkwo have a different way of living , yet they are
both led to question their own character, family relations, and make life changing decisions.
Okonkwo, the lead character in Things Fall Apart, commits suicide after he has lost political
independence to colonialism. This is occasioned by the fact that his clansmen do not follow him into
battle against the colonialists. Throughout the story, Okonkwo desires to be seen as the symbol, the
perfect example, the individual who represents the archetype of Umuofian culture and values. His
strong individualism is questioned when the white colonialists arrive. Okonkwo s epiphany at
realizing that his community does not share in his desire to get rid of them only becomes clear in the
face of looming colonial domination. He says: Worthy men are no more...The greatest obstacles in
Umuofia is that

Essay On Noise Pollution
Abstract
Noise is responsible for hidden and or obvious damages. Hearing loss and tinnitus greatly depend on
the level of sound (dB) and duration of sound . Short duration sound of decent intensity primarily a
gunshot or explosion will not be described because they are not currently encountered in our normal
urban environment. Introduction Noise pollution is a type of pollution that doesn t get a lot of
attention because many people don t see it as a problem. Although it may not seem a major problem to
many, to other people it is a major problem because of the health problems and defects and disorders
caused by the little amount of sleep these people may be getting. The exact definition of noise is,
Noise pollution is an unwanted or disturbing sound which can interfere with normal activities for
humans and wildlife, such as sleeping, conversation, reproduction, communication, or disrupt or
diminish one s quality of life. Some of these side effects of noise pollution can compare to other
common pollution types such as air pollution or water pollution. They could even be more severe at
times depending on exactly how much sound or noise is being endured. Many causes of noise
pollution include but are not limited to; cars, jets, airplanes, dumpster trucks, sirens, construction
work, city buses, city rush hour and/or work, commercial 16 wheeler trucks, etc. Many effects of of

America at D-Day Essay
AMERICAAT D DAY: A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE
I am very interested in World War II. So I choose a book that was written about the Normandy
Invasion. More commonly know as D Day or
Deliverance day. The title of the book is America at D Day. It was written by Richard Goldstein. The
book has 287 pages and also has 90 different pictures from the invasion of Normandy. The reason the
author wrote this book was to show exactly what happened at D Day.
The author starts off by describing the preparation for D Day in great detail. The code name given to
the Normandy Invasion was Operation
Overlord. It was planned mainly by General Dwight David Eisenhower.
Prior to World War II Eisenhower never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Americans were also going to drop their paratroopers behind the
German front lines on the Cherbourg Peninsula.
The American paratroopers were from the 82nd Airborne Division and from the 101st Airborne
Division. The paratroopers were to cut off any supply line to the front lines and prevent any
reinforcements from reaching the beaches of Normandy. The order was given on the night of June 5,
1944 to launch the paratroopers. The paratroopers were sent in first so that they could drop under the
cover of the night. The paratroopers were plagued with cloudy skies and some anti aircraft fire. Some
of the paratroopers were shot down while they dropped from the skies. Most of the paratroopers that
did survive the jump missed their intended drop zones. During the first hours of the assault their was
confusion among the soldiers, but then the troops started to form up into small bands together and
started to complete their missions.
The paratroopers mission was for the most part a success. They gained considerable ground and
destroyed vital supply lines for the Germans.
However, the assault on the beaches were plagued by a lot more problems. The major problem was the
choppy seas and the strong current. It made many of the allied forces land off of target. Even though
they landed off course they were still able come together. The Germans also put many obstacles in the
way of the landing crafts.

Creative Commons
Creative Commons America Needs Fair Use Licenses
It s likely happened to you before, you turn on your radio, or favorite music video network and begin
listening to a song by some hot new pop starlet, hip hop superstar, or aging rocker. The beat is catchy,
inviting, and oddly familiar, almost too familiar in fact. You may think, Didn t David Bowie, or, hmm,
wasn t it that guy from Queen that played this riff in like ten years ago? Who is this Vanilla Ice guy
and why is he rapping over it? If you were old enough to remember Under Pressure and subsequently
were listening Ice Ice Baby in 1990 (likely while cruising in your Mustang 5.0 convertible on your
way to a Milli Vanilli concert), you would have experienced an ... Show more content on

Thankfully, a solution called Creative Commons has been developed which addresses many of these
issues in an effort to encourage new creative development through the open sharing of intellectual
property. (Lessig)
There are many issues with the current copyright laws that exist in the Canada and the United States
today. Many critics of these laws like, Creative Commons founder Lawrence Lessig; believe that
current copyright laws only exist to protect entrenched, and often uncreative interests at the expense of
everyone else. (Plotkin) In the United States, back in 1790, copyright extended for 14 years after the
document was published, and then for another 14 years if the author was still alive. (Plotkin) Today
copyright laws in the US have been lengthened to 70 years after the death of the author, which means
that companies can withhold releasing works into the public domain for almost a century. (Plotkin) In
Canada copyright laws are similar, but instead of 70 years after death, an authors works are released
into the public domain 50 years after their death. (Harris) Lessig has stated in interviews that current
copyright and patent practices are contrary to the reason why they were developed in the first place.

Role of Cultural Factors in Shaping Human Resource Management
Role of Cultural Factors in Shaping Human Resource Management Practices in the Multinational
Corporations (MNCs) Operating in the Emerging Markets of South Asia
ABM Abdullah*, Stephen Boyle** and Carmen Joham***
A number of studies have been conducted for addressing the issues related to cultural diversity of
employees working for Multinational Corporations (MNCs) operating in South Asian countries.
However, only a few of the studies have looked into the issues related to how culture plays a role in
shaping key Human Resource(HR) practices such as: compensation policy, job security, training and
development, selection and recruitment, decentralization and teamwork, and information ... Show

It has been already been accepted both in domestic and international markets that employees can be an
important source of competitive advantage for corporations (Peteraf, 1993). Therefore, it is critical
that corporations adopt Human Resources Management (HRM) policies and practices that utilize the
particular employees‟ potential to the fullest (Boxall Purcell, 2000; Grant, 1996). Thorough
recruitment and selection processes, effective compensation systems, extensive training and
development activities, adequate job satisfaction and employment security all impact positively on the
overall business and performance of a corporation. It has also been found that if HRM is linked to the
overall business of a company, it may further enhance the performance of the company (Pfeffer,
1998). Moreover, due to the complexity of managing people from different socio economic and
cultural background, it is argued that the way global employees are managed will also have a
significant impact on a firm‟s economic outcome (Bjorkman Xiucheng, 2002). However, it has been
noted that few organizations know how to manage HR effectively in a dynamic international
environment because best practices in one context do not always translate to other contexts with
differing socio economic conditions and cultures (Chilton, 1993).

The Pros And Cons Of Haiti
Since 1994, Haiti has experienced seven major military and humanitarian interventions undertaken by
the United States of America (USA) and the United Nations (UN). These interventions are thought to
have helped Haiti develop economically and politically, but has this been the case? Despite the many
interventions, or perhaps because of them, Haiti is still the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere
and one of the poorest countries in the world. The country is overwhelmed with corruption, high
unemployment, high crime levels, and miserable economic prospects for its citizens. Looking at the
advantages and disadvantages of the interventions gives us a clearer picture of why Haiti is in such a
dismal state today.
Interventions brought thousands of foreign troops to Haiti, but also brought several benefits. For
example:

which plunged to a mere 15% by 2008 entire industries have been destroyed and the country is now
almost exclusively dependent on imports, primarily from the USA. Unemployment skyrocketed and it
damaged the Haitian economy and markets to the point where the government of Haiti even had to
call for an end to large scale food aid in 2010. But food aid continues to this day despite its harm. It is
critical to realise that the situation in Haiti does not look much better today than it did in 1994 despite
all the aid. Therefore, whether these donations and investments have brought any meaningful benefits
to Haitian citizens is highly

Finding The Underlying Conflict Sam
The director may have used this portion of the movie to establish the underlying conflict Sam is being
questioned about. The court system consistently states that Lucy will surpass his IQ by her next
birthday. The judge claims that due to his low intelligence, Sam will not be able to take care of Lucy
as well as someone with a higher mental age. Although this is the court s assumption, does this make
Sam any less capable of raising Lucy?
Mindsets such as Henry Goddard, author of the Kallikak Family Study and translator of Binet s
original IQ test, mimic the thought process similar to the court system in the film. Goddard states that
the, fixed character of mental levels was the reason why some people were poor and unemployed. The

This response is the exact situation society should be avoiding. In this sense, the characters have
realistic attributes, but caricatured portrayals to hook the viewer and keep continuous interest.
However, I deeply question if this method is how cinema should educate society. Are these filmmakers
setting a stage for stereotypes and jokes that should not be laugh matters?
In I Am Sam, Samuel Dawson is fun loving, extroverted, and detail minded. He favors routine and
shows consistency in his love for others. When he s not dressed in his Starbucks uniform, he is
generally found wearing a neutral colored polo and jacket. Sam is presented as a persistent and
determined father who cares for anyone present in his life. His actions of love are displayed in big
events such as his fight for custody for his daughter as well as smaller scaled tasks like his delicacy in
organizing the sugar packets at his workplace.
Throughout the duration of the film, Sam encounters individuals who positively grow due to their
interactions with him. Characters such as Rita, enter his life with harsh attitudes and hostile
commentary. In Michelle Pfeiffer s opening scene, she s found cutting off her son and therapist in a
fury full of tears. She appears to be cold hearted and a hard professional shell to crack. Remarkably,
her time spent with Sam begins to mold her personality. While learning

Comparison Of Betrayal In Fahrenheit 451
In class, we read this book called Fahrenheit 451. In this book, there is a character named Guy
Montag. He is a fireman, but, in this universe, they burn down houses instead of saving them from
fire. He goes on with his life like normal until he meets a girl named Clarrise who changes everything
he once thought. We also watched a movie called The Truman Show. This movie is about a guy named
Truman Burbank who lives in a normal world where everything is the same. Then he starts learning
more about this perfect world and begins to become curious. I find that both of these characters are the
same because they both get betrayed, they go with the flow, and act irrationally throughout their
stories. The first reason I find both Guy Montag and Truman Burbank alike is the fact that they both
get betrayed. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Montag s house gets called in to be burned down
because he had books. When he asked who turned in the call, he learns that his own wife, Mildred,
was the one who called. Mildred was too frightened by these books to care about her own home being
burned to ashes. She betrayed Montag, leaving him with nothing. In The Truman Show, Truman
Burbank is betrayed on multiple occasions. Truman was talking with his best friend, Marlon, about
how he began to think that the world revolved around him when Marlon said something along the
lines of, I would never lie to you. Because they are best friends, Truman believes his lie. Marlon is just

Christian College Goals
One of the most important aspects for me, in choosing where to go to college was finding a Christian
college. Even though I have not yet decided between attending Mount Vernon Nazarene University
and Grove City College, I am trusting that the Lord will reveal his will to me in this decision. The
main goal in choosing to attend a Christian college is to grow close to the Lord through my college
experience and be surrounded by others who share my love for the Lord and also the desire to learn
more about the world that He has created. I want my education to be ultimately centered around the
truths of God s Word. For me, choosing a major was a difficult decision, but I have chosen to major in

find a career in my field. Although I am not positive if I would like to pursue a graduate degree in the
future for electrical engineering, I have thought about the possibility of going on to get a master s
degree later in my life. If I decide to get my master s degree, I would want to try and work as a
professor in the engineering department at a college, where I would have the opportunity to mold
young minds with a passion for the field I love as well. In addition to my future career goals, I would
love to get married and have a family someday. It is hard to picture what my life might look like ten

Dangerous Driving Habits
In today s world, many drivers have become complacent in the fact that the vehicle in which they are
operating can be a deadly weapon. A two ton hunk of metal flying down the freeway at speeds excess
of seventy miles an hour carries much potential for catastrophe.
Dangerous driving habits result in the death of thousands of people each year; however, by taking
steps to educate young drivers on dangerous habits behind the wheel; countless lives could be saved.
Distracting driving is a common occurrence with modern day drivers. Due to technological advances
making electronics so easy to use on the go, many find themselves spending more time looking at
their cell phone or navigation system than they do looking at the road. According to the NHTSA,
distracted driving claimed the lives of 3,477 people in 2015 alone. Texting and driving is a common
distraction, especially when it comes to the younger generation of drivers. Young drivers are oblivious
to the dangers of what seems like such a harmless act. Studies have shown that one 1 in 4 accidents
are caused by texting and driving. The number of people injured from distracted drivers in 2015 was
391,000. Over half of the nation s car accidents are a result of texting and driving. Whereas drinking
and driving may kill more people, the leading cause of car accidents is in fact texting and driving.
Another growing problem, that for years has been the major headline for traffic accidents that could
have very well been avoided

The Loss of Faith Exposed in A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings
A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is about a small religious town
that is faced with having to believe or not believe in something that once held an extremely important
place in Catholic history. The inciting incident is when Pelayo finds the bedraggled angel face down in
the mud. The rising actions occur within the treatment of the angel by Pelayo, Elisenda and the town s
people, and also in the questioning of the angel by Father Gonzaga. The turning point in A Very Old

Somali The Somali Banking System
The Somali Banking System
Anna Koontz
Dr. Darcy Hartman
AEDE 4536
21 November 2015
A: Introduction and Problem Description Somalia is a war torn nation in East Africa that has been
systematically affected by political, economic, and social issues for decades. These issues have
profoundly impacted the way that the nation functions as a whole. One of the most significant
economic issues that plagues Somalia today is its lack of an effective central bank, and the general
scarcity of banks throughout the country. The Central Bank of Somalia does exist, but it is essentially
inoperative, as it has no substantial authority and has not officially printed a single bank note since the
1990s1. Currently, the Central Bank of Somalia does not dictate monetary policy whatsoever, and only
conducts surveys as it attempts to reconstruct itself 2. Because of this, counterfeit currency makes up a
sizable proportion of the money in circulation, and most Somalis rely on remittances transferred from
family members abroad to survive. In fact, it is estimated that around 45% of Somalia s economy is
made up of these remittances that come from places like Kenya, Ethiopia, and the United States,
where large populations of Somali refugees and immigrants currently live3.
Not surprisingly, the lack of a banking system has led to currency substitution that appears in many
forms. Some use foreign currency or the plentiful counterfeit bills, while others use money issued by

Is Space Exploration Worth The Cost Essay
Your world is as big as you make it . Georgia Douglas Johnson once said in her poem Your World .
Space exploration allows America to generate a great amount of money. If America continues space
exploration, new discoveries can be made. Greater wealth and new discoveries could and will better
America. This is why space exploration is worth the cost.
To start with, space exploration generates great wealth for America. Economic, scientific, and
technological returns of space have far exceeded the investment , said Dr. Joan Vernikos ( Is Space
Exploration Worth the Cost 29 31). Space exploration does cost quite a bit but, the benefits greatly out
number the cost. In 2007, NASA s budget of $16.3 billion is a minute fraction of the $13 trillion total
G.D.P. , said Dr. Joan Vernikos. Space explorations budget is so limited, yet so much comes out of it.
So in other words, Space exploration is risky and does cost money but the benefits are phenominiall.

Santa Claus Myths
Saint Nicholas, myth or legend? In order to determine the merits of Santa Claus and his effects on
Christmas, we must objectively review how his story aligns with the story of Jesus Christ. Although
Jesus is the reason for the season, distractions such as commercialism, religion and cultural division
have all played a part in detracting from this core message, however, these things can all be reasoned
with truth. But how do you reason with fiction? How can we inject fantasy into the center of truth and
maintain its veracity?
In examining the influence of Santa Claus on Christmas, we must first highlight his origin. Forbes

The concept of Santa Claus is something we are supposed to grow out of. Its celebrated as good,
wholesome fun for children, but how does he work alongside God. If we tell children that both Santa
and God are real and expect them to grow beyond one, then why not both. In truth they both require
the same substance to believe in there existence; faith in the unseen are both required to believe, but
faith in a lie is manipulation. The potency of Jesus Christ birth and ultimate, salvation of humanity, is
put on undue trial when one story is revealed as lie. Jesus informs us in Matthew 18:6 7, but whoever
causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a

through whom the stumbling block comes! (New American Standard Bible)

The Agile Methodology ( Am ) For Software Development Essay
The Agile methodology (AM) for software development is an iterative system characterized by cycles
of development, testing, and stakeholder feedback. According to Ferreira and Cohen, the Agile
methodology has the following five characteristics (50): 1. Iterative development: Small versions of
the software are developed at regular intervals. 2. Continuous integration: Instead of waiting until the
end to make changes to code, code changes are integrated immediately and then tested to ensure they
work. 3. Collective ownership: Development teams are fluid as team members take on different roles
depending on need. They all own and are responsible for the system. 4. Test driven design: Developers
identify the testing required before beginning to write the code for the system. 5. Feedback loop: In
AM, there is a frequent feedback loop from stakeholders to ensure that the software is on track with
expectations throughout the process. Each loop in Agile development is characterized by development
of specific features, testing, stakeholder review, incorporation of changes, and then on to the next
cycle until completion. Comparison of the methods: Stakeholder input: Both waterfall and Agile
methodologies use stakeholder requirements in their process. In the waterfall case study, the video
game highlighted had a pre production stage where the requirements were identified and analysis was
done up front to develop the game conception. The design is based on that early analysis and

Analysis Of Mother Tongue By Amy Tan
What does it feel like to be raised in an immigrant family? In the essay Mother tongue by Amy Tan,
the author describes how her mother s English influences her in her career and life that the mother
tongue does not limit her as a writer, but shaped her and her perception on life instead. And her
attitude to her mother s English changes from the initial embarrassment to the final appreciation. Tan s
attitude towards her mother s English begins with embarrassment and humiliation. Growing up in an
immigrant family which speaks imperfect English, Tan witnesses many discriminations that her
mother has encountered in department stores or at banks, those experiences help to shape Tan s
opinion to her mother s English. For example, Tan states that [she] was ashamed of [her mother s]
English. [She] believed that [her mother s] English reflected the quality of what [her] mother had to
say (508). In young Amy s opinion, her mother s expressions and thoughts are broken and imperfect
like the way she speaks, and she believes that linguistic expression is linked to a person s intelligence.
As a result, she was ashamed of her mother in public because of her fractured English. Besides, Tan
recalls another incident of her pretending to be her mother to talk to a stockbroker. Tan s mother was
using broken English to give Tan instructions on how to talk on the phone. She describes that her
mother said, So mad he lied to me, losing me money ( Tan 508). The author uses

overlook is the roof. This is a major feature of any house, and it must be given proper attention before
and after your purchase. If you have found a property that you love, but the roof is not in good shape,
you may well be able to convince the seller to lower the asking price. Alternatively, you might not
wish to purchase a place that will likely require a replacement in a year or two.
You may be able to catch some issues simply by looking at the structure. However, we recommend a
professional inspection before you agree to buy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following are some of the primary issues to look for and questions to ask when scrutinizing the
roof of a home for sale:
Shingles: Take a good look at the shingles. Are they curling or buckling? If so, an entire replacement
could be imminent. Shingles that are losing granules might be nearing the end of their lifespan. If
there are shingles missing in places, this means that either repairing or replacing the roof will be
necessary.
Daylight: When you are in the attic or elsewhere indoors, can you detect daylight though the boards?
This could indicate that the structure has been weakened due to moisture damage.
Moss and Mold: If you can see moss, lichens, or mold, this is a sign that decay may be taking place.
Such organisms thrive in damp environments, which is not what you want your roof to be.
Gutters: You may already have checked the shingles for evidence of missing granules, but be sure to
look in the gutters. The missing granules are likely to follow the force of gravity and accumulate in the
gutters. If you see them there, you may need to consider a roof replacement after you buy the

Bullying in the National Spotlight
As a young man growing up, I have had my share of hardships and difficulties with bullies and being
bullied. My personal experiences of bulling started early in middle school and continued throughout
junior high and high school. Given a small frame and statue, classmates would often create pranks
targeting me. The pranks didn t the start out as f bulling; name calling started early on my school
career. Names such as four eyes, studderbox, nerd, mute, Steve Urkel, were just some of the many
names I endured while in school. Entering high school as a freshmen was one of the most enjoyable
and traumatic times as a young man. Going into high school with a new attitude, I thought the bulling
was over. By the second week of school, I found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonathan Martin s frustration stemmed from one and half football seasons of bullying and taunting
from some of his teammates which had gone beyond the player hazing that sometimes occurs in NFL
locker rooms (2013). Rookie hazing is seen as a rite of passage in the National Football League teams.
Stuart (2013) argues that athletic hazing is about team self governance and is a potent tool to create a
team hierarchy through fear and intimidation. She also argues that athletic hazing is part of
maintaining masculinity and is perceived as a rite of passage to masculinity Looking at her analysis of
hazing as the physical and psychological abuse of younger team members are by those who are more
senior is humiliating but dangerous (Stuart 2013). Butryn (2003) prompted that intimidation, bullying,
humiliation, and sexual violence are all intertwined into an acceptable template for male masculinity
behavior. Waldron and Kowalski (2009) study of collegiate athletes resulted in athletes reporting
engaging in risky, hazing behaviors because of the sport and the desire to be accepted by teammates
encouraged hazing.
From the headlines in social media and television, Jonathan Martin bullying continued into his second

Public Order Crimes
Assignment #4 Ingrid Victorero
1. What are public order crimes, and how are they different from violent and property crimes? Explain
how moral entrepreneurship affects the public perception of morality and thus the creation of new
public order crimes.
Answer:
Public order crimes are crimes against the public consensus of morality. Sometimes public order
crimes are called victimless crimes, as there is no clear victim that can be identified. A crime against
the public order is quite different than a crime against a person. Violent and property crimes are a
direct victimization against a person. The victim has been affected by violence and the act has caused
a loss of something of value. Moral entrepreneurs can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this reason, victimless crimes are often called consensual crimes. One common example of a
victimless crime is prostitution. Offering sexual favors in exchange for money is considered a crime in
many places. Both the solicitor and the prostitute can be arrested for violating public decency laws. If,
however, both parties are deemed to have committed the illegal act consensually, then neither party
may be considered victims in the eyes of the law. Prostitution is often not a free choice. Prostitution is
usually accompanied by forms of force or enslavement Most prostitutes use drugs regularly. Addiction
means they must stay to pay for drugs. Pimping, gangsterism; runaway girls to cities or immigrants
who are promised good jobs. Often, the initial loss of innocence was forced by sexual abuse / rape.
Street prostitution becomes trafficking when a pimp uses force, fraud and/or coercion to maintain
control over the person providing commercial sexual services and cause the person to engage in
commercial sex acts. An individual engaged in street prostitution under the age of 18 is considered a
victim of sex trafficking regardless of the presence of force, fraud or coercion. Unfortunately, when
purchasing a prostitute, many buyers don t think about the serious consequences that come with street
sex. Sexually transmitted disease, infidelity, violence, thefts and many crimes take place with the
average prostitute exchange. Wives, husbands and innocent

The Pros And Cons Of Gun Laws
In the United States, the gun laws need to be tightened, the laws that are in place now are too loose. If
the United States tighten the gun laws we could cut down on deaths. It would also cut down on people
acquiring firearms illegally like through families and friends, and legally but in unsafe ways like the
Charleston Loophole. If the United States passes tighter gun laws the deaths would decrease and the
United States will be a bit of a nicer place.
The Charleston Loophole is a big example of the reason the United States needs tighter Gun Laws.
From the years 2010 through 2016, the loophole allowed about 23,000 guns to be sold to dangerous
people (source 1). To buy a gun you had to go through a three business day background check. If that
check could not be completed within the three business day time period, by federal law the stores were
allowed to sell people the guns without the background check completed. If there was a larger time
period for the background check the problem of dangerous people getting firearms, would diminish.
All the background checks that have been completed have blocked more than two million dangerous
people from getting firearms (also source 1). Also, most likely saved many lives which could have
been taken if the people whose background checks were blocked.
Another reason we should place tighter gun laws is that of how easy it is to acquire a gun. An article
from the New York Times reviews a documentary called The New Radical . That documentary talked
about a person named Cody Wilson, who released the first known 3D printer plans to create a gun. He
named the gun The Liberator, and it is a single shot pistol made in a 3D printer. His gun plans had
people questioning the boundaries of the 2nd amendment. Most other people would use the easier way
like Daniel Webster said: When criminals get guns, they get them from friends, family, or from an
underground market source. (source 1 article 2) Meaning that criminals and dangerous people could
have a friend who is not convicted of a crime or clean buy the gun they use to kill or hurt a lot of
people. This just shows how easy it is to obtain a working gun or gun substitute. The people who
disagree with the statement We should

Essay on Six Social Classes in the United States Today
During my research, I have found that depending on where you look there are a variety of Social
Classes in the United States. The most obvious and probably the best known are the six social classes
primarily used in the United States today. Below, I have compiled some facts that help describe and
support each class.
Upper Class
The upper class makes up about one percent of the U.S. population, generally consists of those who
have inherited wealth from their families, this is also known as old money.
New Money
The new money class is relatively new on the social class ladder and makes up about fifteen percent of
the U.S. population. New money includes people whose wealth has only been around for a generation
or two.
Middle Class
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poverty Level
The poverty level class lacks the means to meet their basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter. The
poverty level is currently about $18,000 per year.
These classes have become even more apparent in today s tough economy. There are many families
and individuals that were once in a higher class, which have been forced to a lower class due the
declining economy. This is known or felt by Americans watching today s struggling economy. Due to
the economy failing, it has caused most industries to cut back on production and has caused a decline
in the working force. In turn, this has caused a ripple effect to almost every business across America.
A simple analogy to help support this would be; the auto industry is not producing the amount of
vehicles that they have in the past. This, in turn means that they don t need the volume of tires that
they have. Now, this causes problems for the tire maker. If the tire maker, doesn t have a demand then
they don t need as many employees and causes the tire maker to make drastic cuts to its personnel.
And the ripple effect continues on down the line causing further layoffs; not only for the tire maker,
but also for their suppliers.
The moral of this is; once employees start getting laid off and the demand doesn t rise, a corporation
will eventually have no choice but to thin out some of its top executives. Most top executives are more
than likely in the upper

Linked in with the policy tools available to central government as one of the means of mitigating
accessibility is the ability to mandate accessibility improvements through future franchise

for disabled passengers and would see the standardisation of accessibility provision across the
different private train operating companies that provide services across the UK, which currently leads

small scale physical interventions at stations to improve mobility (Papworth Trust, 2015).

How Did Bill Gates Change The World
According to the Oxford Dictionary a leader is someone who commands a group, organization or
country. Now, ask yourself this: Did Jeff Bezos become the richest man in the world, by commanding
those around him? Did Steve Jobs or Bill Gates change the world of technology. by ordering people
around? No one change the world for the better through absolute power, rather, these people changed
the world by inspiring everyone around them. From my personal experience, and when we examine
history, a successful leader does not lead using fear or commands, but with compassion by inspiring
those around them. Throughout history, some of the most successful leaders have been those who
motivated their followers by giving them a moral purpose. While other leaders throughout history

Why Southwest Is A Values Based Firm Looks Like
None of Southwest s competitors can completely copy what Southwest is doing, because Southwest is
a values based firm. Southwest s strategies can be imitated, but Southwest s culture cannot be copied.
I would like to explain what the values based diverse firm looks like, how Southwest is values based
diverse, and why Southwest s culture cannot be copied. The following are the relevant facts, the
analysis, and justification using supporting evidence.
What the values based firm looks like
In Cascio s book, he explains, The values based approach begins with a set of fundamental values that
are energizing and capable of unlocking people s human potential values such as fun, fairness,
challenge, trust, respect, community, and family (Strategic Human Resource Management, P.44). The
management invents the strategies for management policies and practices that are consistent with
these values on a day to day basis. Southwest fits in Cascio s criteria of the values based firm. The
following are the case details:
How Southwest is a values based firm
There are interesting facts that Southwest s approaches to business are based on fun, trust, community,
and family. For example, at Southwest, there is little cross training except for only two formal teams:
the marketing and reservations department. This means that Southwest promotes mingling with the
employees for informal networking and helping each other out, in spite of their job assignments.

and is also rite on the lakefront. This placement makes the building viewable to museum visitors,

It functions as a multipurpose space. Some of its uses are the grand entry to the museum, a temporary
exhibit space, a brunch area, an art fair space, and a wedding venue. No wonder it has so many uses,
with 90 foot glass ceilings and a magnificent view of the lake, it is truly a grand space that extends
beyond its walls. All of the glass lets in a magnificent amount of natural light. The lake is framed with
large arched windows, and the floors are beautiful white marble. The walls are entirely white, and the
ceiling is made of giant windows with white metal frames that slope up to a point. This follows the
overall clean and futuristic look of the museum, as it is an architectural feature rarely seen in buildings
today, and it is almost surreal when you look at it in person. The windows themselves are not square,
and their frames appear to be slanted at angles similar to the unique tangents of the suspension bridge.
All of the windows appear to be custom to their placement, none exactly like the other. This
contributes to the futuristic look of the building, making it appear surreal from both inside and out. A
feature of this room that is most noticeable from the outside its front looks like the bow of a ship. This
ties the museum to the lake. It looks as though it could sail off in the night, a beautiful translucent
vessel. Overall, Windhover Hall is an impressive space that wows visitors. With it s high ceiling,
beautiful floors, and interesting shape, it is a memorable piece of the architecture. It is an important

The Importance Of Alexander Hamilton And George Washington
Alexander Hamilton and George Washington had a strong relationship from 1776 to 1801. The two
first met in 1777 when Hamilton, then a twenty two year old artillery officer, joined Washington s staff
as his secretary. After the war, they built a strong relationship when Hamilton was Secretary of the
Treasury for 8 years in the Washington Administration. Some have argued Washington was more
important in bringing stability to the U.S. due to his leadership both during the War and in his time as
President of the United States. However, Hamilton s role in the Constitutional Convention was
essential to ratification of the Constitution and establishing a strong centralized government. In

Hamilton believed the federal government had to play a much stronger role in the establishment of a
national economic system. With the creation of institutions including a national bank and a national
mint, Hamilton sought to establish a system to allow a free flow of commerce within the United States
and with foreign countries. As illustrated throughout Hamilton s Financial Plan, The American
economy had traditionally rested upon large scale agricultural exports to pay for the import of British
manufactured goods. Hamilton rightly thought that this dependence on expensive foreign goods kept
the American economy at a limited level, especially when compared to the rapid growth of early
industrialization in Great Britain. this shows hamilton was effective in forming great stability in the
united states economically.
Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay published the Federalist Papers a series of 85 essays on

production in the countries from which we receive products, we can try to prevent these problems
(TribLive Lifestyles). Along with the origin of our food, the type of food we eat plays a large impact
on our health. For example, an excess of certain foods can lead to various problems such as diabetes
and cardiovascular disease. Diabetes is a chronic illness that affects the production of insulin in the
pancreas and the way our bodies process sugar. There are two types of diabetes, but type 2 diabetes is
most commonly associated with diet because it results from being overweight. Obesity can cause our
bodies to become insulin resistant, which means even though our body continues to produce insulin,
our cells don t use it like they should. Focusing on a healthy diet low in fat and high in fiber as well as
living an active lifestyle can reduce our risk of developing this disease (WebMD Type 2 Diabetes: The

The Effects Of Monopoly On Economic Development
Discuss the effects of monopoly on economic development. Is monopoly legal in your country? If so,

A Monopoly power as study showcases is when a firm has monopoly power it will engage itself a
little competition. Which also means that a monopoly is a price maker and its demand curve will be
inelastic. If Monopoly set to increase prices demand, it would only fall by a small percentage.
According to Pettinger, R. (2013), a monopoly is likely to cause the following effects in the economy
development as stated below:

Monopoly will cause allocative inefficiency by introducing higher prices and less choice for

lower prices to their suppliers. For examples, A Supermarkets will pay low prices to farmers since the
farmers do not have any other choice than to sell their products.
The effects of monopoly on economic development can also be seen from another aspect where we
have Price exceeding Marginal Cost, Price exceeding lowest Average Total Cost. This results to an
efficiency loss (dead weight loss) where we have sum of consumer surplus plus producer surplus is
less than maximum. It can be viewed as a private tax on consumers since the higher price will
generates higher economic profit that is distributed amongst shareholders of the company, who are
mostly from high income groups. Monopoly owner s benefit at the expense of the consumers, since
owners have more income than the consumers, monopoly increases gap between rich and poor. For
example, when a buyer is richer than owners of the monopoly, then income transfer from consumers

The United States have been divided over the controversy of whether or not the death penalty is a
humane punishment to use against criminals. Eighteen states, as well as the District of Columbia, have
banned it, the remaining states have not. The government and law enforcements believe the death
penalty deters crime rates across America. This has yet to be proven right. In S. E. Cupp s article, The
Conservative Case Against the Death Penalty , she says: The country needs to have a clear eyed
conversation about the death penalty, one that puts both anecdotal and emotional arguments aside in
favor of some serious analysis. In addition, one thing to question is the motive behind capital
punishment. The desire for retribution on someone is one of the lowest human emotions. It can be
understandable, but not a very coherent response to a critical situation. Raymond A. Schroth says: To
kill the person who has killed someone close to you is simply to continue the cycle of violence which
ultimately destroys the avenger as well as the offender. This an eye for an eye deal seems to contribute
to this cycle of violence. The government and U.S. prosecutors seem to think that killing someone for

Team Performance And Development Of Team Members
It is undeniable that there are many challenged factors in today s business world. One of the most
important is leadership skill. Macmillan online dictionary (2015) defined leadership as the position of
being the leader or being in charge of an organization . Leader is a person who leads the team to
achieve the goal. There are several roles of leader such as problem solving, improving team
performance, motivating, planning and organizing etc. According to Adairs Action Centred Leadership
Model (1973), the model consists of three main elements, which are co ordinating teamwork,
accomplishment the task and supporting individual. A person cannot perfectly reach a goal with one or
two focusing factors. Effective Leader or manager has to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They lost three people while they were completing the task. This meant that at the end there were only
two members left with four bricks so it was easy to cross the patch. The positive thing is they had
planned before start the task by using papers instead of the bricks and try to allocate each team s
member on the papers. On the other hand, there were the negative things. Despite they found that four
bricks are not enough for five people to carry out the goal, they decided to do without the back up
plan. Moreover, the reason why the group lost three members was because they did not concern about
physical body of each individual. The members try to set down the bricks as far as possible in order to
cross the patch faster. Nevertheless, the majority of team members have small legs, which they could
not make a big step between each bricks. This makes the members slip down to the ground and had to
leave the task. The group focused on achieving the goal rather than their team and members. Lastly,
the team missed information and critical thinking. The team did not analyse mission and recognise
about more materials on the other side of the patch. If the team spend more time to find the
information and asked understanding from the members. They may know what they are going to do
and may have more opportunity to achieve the task more effectively.
As a result of this event, it shows that the

Imagination in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner versus...
To the Romantics, the imagination was important. It was the core and foundation of everything they
thought about, believed in, and even they way they perceived God itself. The leaders of the Romantic
Movement were undoubtedly Samuel Taylor Coleridge and his close friend, William Wordsworth.
Both were poets, and both wrote about the imagination. Wordsworth usually wrote about those close
to nature, and therefore, in the minds of the Romantics, deeper into the imagination than the ordinary
man. Coleridge, however, was to write about the supernatural, how nature extended past the depth of
the rational mind.
In two works by Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan, both works regard the
imagination as vitally important. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If one being kills merely for the sake of killing, they have just taken another being out of the frame of
the imagination. The imagination replies in an abrupt manner it simply expels said being from the web
of the imagination. Without the imagination, there becomes no religion, no friendship, no
communication, and since the imagination is synonymous with life, without the imagination, the being
ceases to exist, not die, just stop living: And I blessed them unaware. The selfsame moment I could
pray, And from my neck so free the Albatross fell off, and sank like lead into the sea... each turned his
face with a ghastly pang, and cursed me with his eye... all dumb we stood... I pass, like night, from
land to land .
There are key differences in the function and style of Kubla Khan to the workings of the imagination
in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Instead of being a force that causes sterility, suffering, and
loneliness, in Kubla Khan the imagination becomes a creative, imaginative, fecundative force. It has
the power to create not just emotions and feelings, but with the right tools, can create tangible works
of immense power that cannot be rivaled: The shadow of the dome of pleasure floated midway on the
waves, where was heard the mingled measure from the fountain and the caves. It was a miracle of rare
device: a sunny pleasure dome with caves of ice . As if this earth in fast thick pants

How Did Christian Teachings Affect The Creation Of Human...
To what extend did Christian teachings affect the creation of human rights
Human rights are basic to humanity. They are supposed apply to all people everywhere. Though in our
modern society, we acknowledge the importance of human rights, it took a long time for mankind to
set down the human rights that we all deserve and to reach to where we are now. In this essay, the
focus will be on how much Christian teachings and traditions influenced the creation of human rights.
It s possible to see the influence based on different written laws made toward creation of equal rights.
Such as, the US s Declaration of Independence , the French Declaration of the Rights of Man or the
UN s Declaration of the Human Rights. Christianity s biblical notions support many of the articles
found in those declarations. Christian teachings had an overall significant impact on the development
of modern human right. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bible says that man is created according to the image of God, thus, the murder of another man is
of the highest offense. Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for in the
image of God, has God made man . The Mosaic Law also continues to give a lot of examples on how
God expects us to treat each other humanely. Ten Commandments also forbids murder, stealing,
adultery, lying and crave certain things. These rules help us treat each other morally and equally. Other
examples would be to treat immigrants well (Exodus 22:21; Leviticus 19:33 34), help the poor with
their needs (Leviticus 19:10; Deuteronomy 15:7 8), specifically give loans to the poor with no
interests (Exodus 22:25) and to allow indentured servants to retire after 50 years (Leviticus

Hinduism And Confucianism Similarities
Matt, I do agree that there are similarities between Hinduism and Confucianism; however, despite
both societies, placing a premium hierarchy and authoritarianism, their internal motivations and
ethical paradigms are widely divergent. I am going to incorporate the input you provided on my
original thread regarding this topic as well. I tend to recycle my rhetoric so bear with me.
In Hinduism, law as a matter of religious prescriptions and philosophical discourse has an illustrious
history in India. Emanating from the Vedas, the Upanishads and other religious texts, it was a fertile
field enriched by practitioners from different Hindu philosophical schools and late by Jain s and
Buddhists. Bar Council of India, History of Hindu Law in India ... Show more content on

Xin Ren, Tradition of the Law and Law of the Tradition: Law, State, and Social Control in China 19
(1997). Although both of them exerted a deep influence on China s state building as well as on its
moral and legal traditions, at the beginning, these two philosophies were bitterly opposed to each
other, as they were based on entirely different principles. Id. Despite their differences, Legalism and
Confucianism both endorsed the concept of the absolute monarchy. Id. China s current has a legal
system reflecting some aspects of contemporary civil and common law as practiced in the Western
legal traditions; however, China s legal system has often been based on Confucian philosophy, which
accentuates social control through moral education and a juridical priority regarding coded law and
criminal sanctions. Percy R. Luney, Jr., Traditions and Foreign Influences: Systems of Law in China
and Japan, 129 (1989).
In conclusion, the difference between Confucianism and Hinduism can be observed in their differing
worldview despite some overlap in social conventions. Hinduism s focus is on mystical objectives (not
to be confused with the law of India), as it dismisses reality as we understand it as illusionary.
Confucianism s focus is squarely on this world, and its chief emphasis is social and political

19th Century Transcendentalism
During the 19th and 20th century, the arts played a major role in helping society move toward social
and political changes. Most of the writers, and other influential people during this time used the arts to
emphasis the importance of the current problems that needed dire change. This included literature
used by the transcendentalists, slavery abolitionists, and even in the Harlem Renaissance and more.
During the early 19th century transcendentalists writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry
David Thoreau questioned the doctrines of established churches and the business practices of the
merchant class. Most of what the transcendentalists were writing about included the need for social
changes. Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of the best known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Books written about slavery and its cruelty brought more concern to people regarding the real issue
with slavery. The most influential book of its day was a novel about the conflict between an enslaved
man named Tom and the brutal white slave owner Simon Legree. The publication of Uncle Tom s
Cabin in 1852, by the northern writer Harriet Beecher Stowe moved a generation of Northerners as
well as many Europeans to regard slave owners as monstrously cruel and inhuman. However, in
response Southerners, condemned these truths and claimed it was just proof of the prejudice
northerners had against the southern way of life. In addition, Hinton R. Helper s book of nonfiction,
Impending Crisis of the South, attacked slavery at another angle. The author used statistics to
demonstrate to fellow Southerners that slavery weakened the South s economy. In response many
southern states moved to ban the book but it had already been in wide distribution. In addition, to
counter the attack that slavery was evil, pro slavery southern whites argued that slavery was just the
opposite, a positive good for slaves and masters alike. They argued that slavery was sanctioned by the
Bible and was firmly grounded in philosophy and history. Southern writers also contrasted the
conditions of Northern wage workers as wage slaves forced to work long hours in factories and mines
with the familial bond that could develop on plantations between slaves and masters. One of the
southern authors George Fitzhugh questioned the principal of equal rights for unequal men and
attacked the capitalist wage system as worse than slavery. Both the laws passed such as the fugitive
slave law and the antislavery and proslavery literature, polarized the nation even more. Northerners
who had earlier scorned abolition became more concerned about slavery as a moral

Essay of Comparison between The Tiger and The Lamb, poems...
Essay of Comparison between The Tiger and The Lamb, poems by William Blake
The Tiger and The Lamb were poems by William Blake, a poet who lived in the 18th century. In this
essay I am going to compare the two poems and examine links between them relating to rhymes,
patterns and words used.
Blake s background relates on the poems he wrote, and many of his works reflected his early home
life. Blake in his childhood was an outcast, a loner, and didn t have many friends. His family believed
very strongly in God and were extremely pious Christians but did not agree with the teachings of the
church, so young William Blake often was made to think about God and his teachings during his
studies.
Because his parents were rebels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Lamb the poem is mainly very well structured and flows. In the first verse it has the questions
and in the second verse it has all the answers. If you were only to look at the poem briefly you would
believe it was a children s poem, a hopscotch poem or playground chant, until you remember that
Blake could not have known these as he did not attend school. The reader would think this because of
the simple vocabulary, and also if you notice, the poem uses soft alliteration little lamb this gave a
much softer feel to the poem, obviously putting one in mind of children and their innocence.
Blake was a very holy and pious person. He often out biblical discourse into many of his poems, as I
have stated before. I found some plain biblical tones in The Lamb the next quotation shows this point.
He is meek, and he is mild . . . became a little child .
This quotation is from the New Testament, where God was forgiving, whereas in the Old Testament
God was believed to punish people for their sins i.e. Noah and the Ark, in which God drowns the
entire human race apart from Noah and his family. The fact that there is biblical content in The Lamb
is inspiring and was maybe meant to give a sense of hope. The lack of biblical discussion in The Tiger
gives the reader a sense of lack if reprieve, lack of hope and a sense of the
prison of the world and all

  • 3. Death And King s Horseman By Wole Soyinka Death and King s Horseman by Wole Soyinka and Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe both take place in Africa but in different areas. Authors Soyinka and Achebe, created main characters that came from different tribes, but experienced similar cultural clashes, which led to an issue of suicide within African culture. The context of these books view on suicide differs in each culture. Although each work has a different attitude toward suicide, both deal with it through the characters, Elisen from the Yoruba tribe in Death and King s Horseman and Okonkwo from the Igbo tribe in Things Fall Apart, within their own African cultures. Elisen and Okonkwo have a different way of living , yet they are both led to question their own character, family relations, and make life changing decisions. Okonkwo, the lead character in Things Fall Apart, commits suicide after he has lost political independence to colonialism. This is occasioned by the fact that his clansmen do not follow him into battle against the colonialists. Throughout the story, Okonkwo desires to be seen as the symbol, the perfect example, the individual who represents the archetype of Umuofian culture and values. His strong individualism is questioned when the white colonialists arrive. Okonkwo s epiphany at realizing that his community does not share in his desire to get rid of them only becomes clear in the face of looming colonial domination. He says: Worthy men are no more...The greatest obstacles in Umuofia is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On Noise Pollution Abstract Noise is responsible for hidden and or obvious damages. Hearing loss and tinnitus greatly depend on the level of sound (dB) and duration of sound . Short duration sound of decent intensity primarily a gunshot or explosion will not be described because they are not currently encountered in our normal urban environment. Introduction Noise pollution is a type of pollution that doesn t get a lot of attention because many people don t see it as a problem. Although it may not seem a major problem to many, to other people it is a major problem because of the health problems and defects and disorders caused by the little amount of sleep these people may be getting. The exact definition of noise is, Noise pollution is an unwanted or disturbing sound which can interfere with normal activities for humans and wildlife, such as sleeping, conversation, reproduction, communication, or disrupt or diminish one s quality of life. Some of these side effects of noise pollution can compare to other common pollution types such as air pollution or water pollution. They could even be more severe at times depending on exactly how much sound or noise is being endured. Many causes of noise pollution include but are not limited to; cars, jets, airplanes, dumpster trucks, sirens, construction work, city buses, city rush hour and/or work, commercial 16 wheeler trucks, etc. Many effects of of noise pollution include but are ... • 5. America at D-Day Essay AMERICAAT D DAY: A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE I am very interested in World War II. So I choose a book that was written about the Normandy Invasion. More commonly know as D Day or Deliverance day. The title of the book is America at D Day. It was written by Richard Goldstein. The book has 287 pages and also has 90 different pictures from the invasion of Normandy. The reason the author wrote this book was to show exactly what happened at D Day. The author starts off by describing the preparation for D Day in great detail. The code name given to the Normandy Invasion was Operation Overlord. It was planned mainly by General Dwight David Eisenhower. Prior to World War II Eisenhower never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Americans were also going to drop their paratroopers behind the German front lines on the Cherbourg Peninsula. The American paratroopers were from the 82nd Airborne Division and from the 101st Airborne Division. The paratroopers were to cut off any supply line to the front lines and prevent any reinforcements from reaching the beaches of Normandy. The order was given on the night of June 5, 1944 to launch the paratroopers. The paratroopers were sent in first so that they could drop under the cover of the night. The paratroopers were plagued with cloudy skies and some anti aircraft fire. Some of the paratroopers were shot down while they dropped from the skies. Most of the paratroopers that did survive the jump missed their intended drop zones. During the first hours of the assault their was confusion among the soldiers, but then the troops started to form up into small bands together and started to complete their missions. The paratroopers mission was for the most part a success. They gained considerable ground and destroyed vital supply lines for the Germans. However, the assault on the beaches were plagued by a lot more problems. The major problem was the choppy seas and the strong current. It made many of the allied forces land off of target. Even though they landed off course they were still able come together. The Germans also put many obstacles in the way of the landing crafts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Creative Commons Creative Commons America Needs Fair Use Licenses It s likely happened to you before, you turn on your radio, or favorite music video network and begin listening to a song by some hot new pop starlet, hip hop superstar, or aging rocker. The beat is catchy, inviting, and oddly familiar, almost too familiar in fact. You may think, Didn t David Bowie, or, hmm, wasn t it that guy from Queen that played this riff in like ten years ago? Who is this Vanilla Ice guy and why is he rapping over it? If you were old enough to remember Under Pressure and subsequently were listening Ice Ice Baby in 1990 (likely while cruising in your Mustang 5.0 convertible on your way to a Milli Vanilli concert), you would have experienced an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thankfully, a solution called Creative Commons has been developed which addresses many of these issues in an effort to encourage new creative development through the open sharing of intellectual property. (Lessig) There are many issues with the current copyright laws that exist in the Canada and the United States today. Many critics of these laws like, Creative Commons founder Lawrence Lessig; believe that current copyright laws only exist to protect entrenched, and often uncreative interests at the expense of everyone else. (Plotkin) In the United States, back in 1790, copyright extended for 14 years after the document was published, and then for another 14 years if the author was still alive. (Plotkin) Today copyright laws in the US have been lengthened to 70 years after the death of the author, which means that companies can withhold releasing works into the public domain for almost a century. (Plotkin) In Canada copyright laws are similar, but instead of 70 years after death, an authors works are released into the public domain 50 years after their death. (Harris) Lessig has stated in interviews that current copyright and patent practices are contrary to the reason why they were developed in the first place. (Plotkin) They were ... Role of Cultural Factors in Shaping Human Resource Management Role of Cultural Factors in Shaping Human Resource Management Practices in the Multinational Corporations (MNCs) Operating in the Emerging Markets of South Asia ABM Abdullah*, Stephen Boyle** and Carmen Joham*** A number of studies have been conducted for addressing the issues related to cultural diversity of employees working for Multinational Corporations (MNCs) operating in South Asian countries. However, only a few of the studies have looked into the issues related to how culture plays a role in shaping key Human Resource(HR) practices such as: compensation policy, job security, training and development, selection and recruitment, decentralization and teamwork, and information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been already been accepted both in domestic and international markets that employees can be an important source of competitive advantage for corporations (Peteraf, 1993). Therefore, it is critical that corporations adopt Human Resources Management (HRM) policies and practices that utilize the particular employees‟ potential to the fullest (Boxall Purcell, 2000; Grant, 1996). Thorough recruitment and selection processes, effective compensation systems, extensive training and development activities, adequate job satisfaction and employment security all impact positively on the overall business and performance of a corporation. It has also been found that if HRM is linked to the overall business of a company, it may further enhance the performance of the company (Pfeffer, 1998). Moreover, due to the complexity of managing people from different socio economic and cultural background, it is argued that the way global employees are managed will also have a significant impact on a firm‟s economic outcome (Bjorkman Xiucheng, 2002). However, it has been noted that few organizations know how to manage HR effectively in a dynamic international environment because best practices in one context do not always translate to other contexts with differing socio economic conditions and cultures (Chilton, 1993). • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Haiti Since 1994, Haiti has experienced seven major military and humanitarian interventions undertaken by the United States of America (USA) and the United Nations (UN). These interventions are thought to have helped Haiti develop economically and politically, but has this been the case? Despite the many interventions, or perhaps because of them, Haiti is still the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and one of the poorest countries in the world. The country is overwhelmed with corruption, high unemployment, high crime levels, and miserable economic prospects for its citizens. Looking at the advantages and disadvantages of the interventions gives us a clearer picture of why Haiti is in such a dismal state today. Interventions brought thousands of foreign troops to Haiti, but also brought several benefits. For example: The building of roads, schools, and hospitals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unemployment skyrocketed and it damaged the Haitian economy and markets to the point where the government of Haiti even had to call for an end to large scale food aid in 2010. • 9. Finding The Underlying Conflict Sam The director may have used this portion of the movie to establish the underlying conflict Sam is being questioned about. The court system consistently states that Lucy will surpass his IQ by her next birthday. The judge claims that due to his low intelligence, Sam will not be able to take care of Lucy as well as someone with a higher mental age. Although this is the court s assumption, does this make Sam any less capable of raising Lucy? Mindsets such as Henry Goddard, author of the Kallikak Family Study and translator of Binet s original IQ test, mimic the thought process similar to the court system in the film. Goddard states that the, fixed character of mental levels was the reason why some people were poor and unemployed. The fault ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This response is the exact situation society should be avoiding. In this sense, the characters have realistic attributes, but caricatured portrayals to hook the viewer and keep continuous interest. However, I deeply question if this method is how cinema should educate society. Are these filmmakers setting a stage for stereotypes and jokes that should not be laugh matters? In I Am Sam, Samuel Dawson is fun loving, extroverted, and detail minded. He favors routine and shows consistency in his love for others. When he s not dressed in his Starbucks uniform, he is generally found wearing a neutral colored polo and jacket. Sam is presented as a persistent and determined father who cares for anyone present in his life. His actions of love are displayed in big events such as his fight for custody for his daughter as well as smaller scaled tasks like his delicacy in organizing the sugar packets at his workplace. Throughout the duration of the film, Sam encounters individuals who positively grow due to their interactions with him. Characters such as Rita, enter his life with harsh attitudes and hostile commentary. In Michelle Pfeiffer s opening scene, she s found cutting off her son and therapist in a fury full of tears. She appears to be cold hearted and a hard professional shell to crack. Remarkably, her time spent with Sam begins to mold her personality. While learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Comparison Of Betrayal In Fahrenheit 451 In class, we read this book called Fahrenheit 451. In this book, there is a character named Guy Montag. He is a fireman, but, in this universe, they burn down houses instead of saving them from fire. He goes on with his life like normal until he meets a girl named Clarrise who changes everything he once thought. We also watched a movie called The Truman Show. This movie is about a guy named Truman Burbank who lives in a normal world where everything is the same. Then he starts learning more about this perfect world and begins to become curious. I find that both of these characters are the same because they both get betrayed, they go with the flow, and act irrationally throughout their stories. The first reason I find both Guy Montag and Truman Burbank alike is the fact that they both get betrayed. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Montag s house gets called in to be burned down because he had books. When he asked who turned in the call, he learns that his own wife, Mildred, was the one who called. Mildred was too frightened by these books to care about her own home being burned to ashes. She betrayed Montag, leaving him with nothing. In The Truman Show, Truman Burbank is betrayed on multiple occasions. Truman was talking with his best friend, Marlon, about how he began to think that the world revolved around him when Marlon said something along the lines of, I would never lie to you. Although I am not positive if I would like to pursue a graduate degree in the future for electrical engineering, I have thought about the possibility of going on to get a master s degree later in my life. If I decide to get my master s degree, I would want to try and work as a professor in the engineering department at a college, where I would have the opportunity to mold young minds with a passion for the field I love as well. In addition to my future career goals, I would love to get married and have a family someday. It is hard to picture what my life might look like ten years from now, but I know that my central goal in figuring out my future is to rely on God s sovereign will for me. • 14. Dangerous Driving Habits In today s world, many drivers have become complacent in the fact that the vehicle in which they are operating can be a deadly weapon. A two ton hunk of metal flying down the freeway at speeds excess of seventy miles an hour carries much potential for catastrophe. Dangerous driving habits result in the death of thousands of people each year; however, by taking steps to educate young drivers on dangerous habits behind the wheel; countless lives could be saved. Distracting driving is a common occurrence with modern day drivers. Due to technological advances making electronics so easy to use on the go, many find themselves spending more time looking at their cell phone or navigation system than they do looking at the road. According to the NHTSA, distracted driving claimed the lives of 3,477 people in 2015 alone. Texting and driving is a common distraction, especially when it comes to the younger generation of drivers. Young drivers are oblivious to the dangers of what seems like such a harmless act. Studies have shown that one 1 in 4 accidents are caused by texting and driving. The number of people injured from distracted drivers in 2015 was 391,000. Over half of the nation s car accidents are a result of texting and driving. Whereas drinking and driving may kill more people, the leading cause of car accidents is in fact texting and driving. The inciting incident is when Pelayo finds the bedraggled angel face down in the mud. The rising actions occur within the treatment of the angel by Pelayo, Elisenda and the town s people, and also in the questioning of the angel by Father Gonzaga. • 16. Somali The Somali Banking System The Somali Banking System Anna Koontz Dr. Darcy Hartman AEDE 4536 21 November 2015 A: Introduction and Problem Description Somalia is a war torn nation in East Africa that has been systematically affected by political, economic, and social issues for decades. These issues have profoundly impacted the way that the nation functions as a whole. One of the most significant economic issues that plagues Somalia today is its lack of an effective central bank, and the general scarcity of banks throughout the country. The Central Bank of Somalia does exist, but it is essentially inoperative, as it has no substantial authority and has not officially printed a single bank note since the 1990s1. Currently, the Central Bank of Somalia does not dictate monetary policy whatsoever, and only conducts surveys as it attempts to reconstruct itself 2. Because of this, counterfeit currency makes up a sizable proportion of the money in circulation, and most Somalis rely on remittances transferred from family members abroad to survive. In fact, it is estimated that around 45% of Somalia s economy is made up of these remittances that come from places like Kenya, Ethiopia, and the United States, where large populations of Somali refugees and immigrants currently live3. Not surprisingly, the lack of a banking system has led to currency substitution that appears in many forms. • 17. Is Space Exploration Worth The Cost Essay Your world is as big as you make it . Georgia Douglas Johnson once said in her poem Your World . Space exploration allows America to generate a great amount of money. If America continues space exploration, new discoveries can be made. Greater wealth and new discoveries could and will better America. This is why space exploration is worth the cost. To start with, space exploration generates great wealth for America. Economic, scientific, and technological returns of space have far exceeded the investment , said Dr. Joan Vernikos ( Is Space Exploration Worth the Cost 29 31). In order to determine the merits of Santa Claus and his effects on Christmas, we must objectively review how his story aligns with the story of Jesus Christ. Although Jesus is the reason for the season, distractions such as commercialism, religion and cultural division have all played a part in detracting from this core message, however, these things can all be reasoned with truth. But how do you reason with fiction? How can we inject fantasy into the center of truth and maintain its veracity? In truth they both require the same substance to believe in there existence; faith in the unseen are both required to believe, but faith in a lie is manipulation. The potency of Jesus Christ birth and ultimate, salvation of humanity, is put on undue trial when one story is revealed as lie. The Agile Methodology ( Am ) For Software Development Essay The Agile methodology (AM) for software development is an iterative system characterized by cycles of development, testing, and stakeholder feedback. According to Ferreira and Cohen, the Agile methodology has the following five characteristics (50): 1. Iterative development: Small versions of the software are developed at regular intervals. 2. Continuous integration: Instead of waiting until the end to make changes to code, code changes are integrated immediately and then tested to ensure they work. 3. Collective ownership: Development teams are fluid as team members take on different roles depending on need. They all own and are responsible for the system. 4. Test driven design: Developers identify the testing required before beginning to write the code for the system. 5. Feedback loop: In AM, there is a frequent feedback loop from stakeholders to ensure that the software is on track with expectations throughout the process. Each loop in Agile development is characterized by development of specific features, testing, stakeholder review, incorporation of changes, and then on to the next cycle until completion. Comparison of the methods: Stakeholder input: Both waterfall and Agile methodologies use stakeholder requirements in their process. In the essay Mother tongue by Amy Tan, the author describes how her mother s English influences her in her career and life that the mother tongue does not limit her as a writer, but shaped her and her perception on life instead. And her attitude to her mother s English changes from the initial embarrassment to the final appreciation. Tan s attitude towards her mother s English begins with embarrassment and humiliation. Growing up in an immigrant family which speaks imperfect English, Tan witnesses many discriminations that her mother has encountered in department stores or at banks, those experiences help to shape Tan s opinion to her mother s English. For example, Tan states that [she] was ashamed of [her mother s] English. [She] believed that [her mother s] English reflected the quality of what [her] mother had to say (508). In young Amy s opinion, her mother s expressions and thoughts are broken and imperfect like the way she speaks, and she believes that linguistic expression is linked to a person s intelligence. As a result, she was ashamed of her mother in public because of her fractured English. Besides, Tan recalls another incident of her pretending to be her mother to talk to a stockbroker. If the United States tighten the gun laws we could cut down on deaths. It would also cut down on people acquiring firearms illegally like through families and friends, and legally but in unsafe ways like the Charleston Loophole. If the United States passes tighter gun laws the deaths would decrease and the United States will be a bit of a nicer place. The Charleston Loophole is a big example of the reason the United States needs tighter Gun Laws. From the years 2010 through 2016, the loophole allowed about 23,000 guns to be sold to dangerous people (source 1). To buy a gun you had to go through a three business day background check. If that check could not be completed within the three business day time period, by federal law the stores were allowed to sell people the guns without the background check completed. If there was a larger time period for the background check the problem of dangerous people getting firearms, would diminish. All the background checks that have been completed have blocked more than two million dangerous people from getting firearms (also source 1). Also, most likely saved many lives which could have been taken if the people whose background checks were blocked. Another reason we should place tighter gun laws is that of how easy it is to acquire a gun. An article from the New York Times reviews a documentary called The New Radical . That documentary talked about a person named Cody Wilson, who released the first known 3D printer plans to create a gun. He named the gun The Liberator, and it is a single shot pistol made in a 3D printer. His gun plans had people questioning the boundaries of the 2nd amendment. Most other people would use the easier way like Daniel Webster said: When criminals get guns, they get them from friends, family, or from an underground market source. (source 1 article 2) Meaning that criminals and dangerous people could have a friend who is not convicted of a crime or clean buy the gun they use to kill or hurt a lot of people. There are many families and individuals that were once in a higher class, which have been forced to a lower class due the declining economy. This is known or felt by Americans watching today s struggling economy. Due to the economy failing, it has caused most industries to cut back on production and has caused a decline in the working force. In turn, this has caused a ripple effect to almost every business across America. A simple analogy to help support this would be; the auto industry is not producing the amount of vehicles that they have in the past. This, in turn means that they don t need the volume of tires that they have. Now, this causes problems for the tire maker. If the tire maker, doesn t have a demand then they don t need as many employees and causes the tire maker to make drastic cuts to its personnel. And the ripple effect continues on down the line causing further layoffs; not only for the tire maker, but also for their suppliers. The moral of this is; once employees start getting laid off and the demand doesn t rise, a corporation will eventually have no choice but to thin out some of its top executives. Monopoly will cause allocative inefficiency by introducing higher prices and less choice for consumers. vi. A situation where monopolies get too high, they may experience what we call diseconomies of scale. vii. Monopolies can use their monopoly power to achieve a goal by paying lower prices to their suppliers. For examples, A Supermarkets will pay low prices to farmers since the farmers do not have any other choice than to sell their products. The effects of monopoly on economic development can also be seen from another aspect where we have Price exceeding Marginal Cost, Price exceeding lowest Average Total Cost. This results to an efficiency loss (dead weight loss) where we have sum of consumer surplus plus producer surplus is less than maximum. It can be viewed as a private tax on consumers since the higher price will generates higher economic profit that is distributed amongst shareholders of the company, who are mostly from high income groups. Monopoly owner s benefit at the expense of the consumers, since owners have more income than the consumers, monopoly increases gap between rich and poor. For example, when a buyer is richer than owners of the monopoly, then income transfer from consumers to owners may decrease income ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Conservative Case Against The Death Penalty The United States have been divided over the controversy of whether or not the death penalty is a humane punishment to use against criminals. Eighteen states, as well as the District of Columbia, have banned it, the remaining states have not. The government and law enforcements believe the death penalty deters crime rates across America. This has yet to be proven right. In S. E. Cupp s article, The Conservative Case Against the Death Penalty , she says: The country needs to have a clear eyed conversation about the death penalty, one that puts both anecdotal and emotional arguments aside in favor of some serious analysis. In addition, one thing to question is the motive behind capital punishment. The desire for retribution on someone is one of the lowest human emotions. It can be understandable, but not a very coherent response to a critical situation. Raymond A. Schroth says: To kill the person who has killed someone close to you is simply to continue the cycle of violence which ultimately destroys the avenger as well as the offender. This an eye for an eye deal seems to contribute to this cycle of violence. The government and U.S. prosecutors seem to think that killing someone for a criminal act that they have done will send a message to others and make them give a second thought before murdering someone or attempting to do so. But, statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have shown that the homicide rates in the states against the death ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, there were the negative things. Despite they found that four bricks are not enough for five people to carry out the goal, they decided to do without the back up plan. Moreover, the reason why the group lost three members was because they did not concern about physical body of each individual. The members try to set down the bricks as far as possible in order to cross the patch faster. Nevertheless, the majority of team members have small legs, which they could not make a big step between each bricks. This makes the members slip down to the ground and had to leave the task. The group focused on achieving the goal rather than their team and members. Lastly, the team missed information and critical thinking. • 41. Imagination in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner versus... To the Romantics, the imagination was important. It was the core and foundation of everything they thought about, believed in, and even they way they perceived God itself. The leaders of the Romantic Movement were undoubtedly Samuel Taylor Coleridge and his close friend, William Wordsworth. Both were poets, and both wrote about the imagination. Wordsworth usually wrote about those close to nature, and therefore, in the minds of the Romantics, deeper into the imagination than the ordinary man. Coleridge, however, was to write about the supernatural, how nature extended past the depth of the rational mind. In two works by Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan, both works regard the imagination as vitally important. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of being a force that causes sterility, suffering, and loneliness, in Kubla Khan the imagination becomes a creative, imaginative, fecundative force. It has the power to create not just emotions and feelings, but with the right tools, can create tangible works of immense power that cannot be rivaled: The shadow of the dome of pleasure floated midway on the waves, where was heard the mingled measure from the fountain and the caves. They are supposed apply to all people everywhere. Though in our modern society, we acknowledge the importance of human rights, it took a long time for mankind to set down the human rights that we all deserve and to reach to where we are now. In this essay, the focus will be on how much Christian teachings and traditions influenced the creation of human rights. It s possible to see the influence based on different written laws made toward creation of equal rights. • 43. Hinduism And Confucianism Similarities Matt, I do agree that there are similarities between Hinduism and Confucianism; however, despite both societies, placing a premium hierarchy and authoritarianism, their internal motivations and ethical paradigms are widely divergent. I am going to incorporate the input you provided on my original thread regarding this topic as well. I tend to recycle my rhetoric so bear with me. In Hinduism, law as a matter of religious prescriptions and philosophical discourse has an illustrious history in India. Emanating from the Vedas, the Upanishads and other religious texts, it was a fertile field enriched by practitioners from different Hindu philosophical schools and late by Jain s and Buddhists. Most of the writers, and other influential people during this time used the arts to emphasis the importance of the current problems that needed dire change. This included literature used by the transcendentalists, slavery abolitionists, and even in the Harlem Renaissance and more. Books written about slavery and its cruelty brought more concern to people regarding the real issue with slavery. The most influential book of its day was a novel about the conflict between an enslaved man named Tom and the brutal white slave owner Simon Legree. The publication of Uncle Tom s Cabin in 1852, by the northern writer Harriet Beecher Stowe moved a generation of Northerners as well as many Europeans to regard slave owners as monstrously cruel and inhuman. However, in response Southerners, condemned these truths and claimed it was just proof of the prejudice northerners had against the southern way of life. In addition, Hinton R. Helper s book of nonfiction, Impending Crisis of the South, attacked slavery at another angle. The author used statistics to demonstrate to fellow Southerners that slavery weakened the South s economy. In response many southern states moved to ban the book but it had already been in wide distribution. In addition, to counter the attack that slavery was evil, pro slavery southern whites argued that slavery was just the opposite, a positive good for slaves and masters alike. They argued that slavery was sanctioned by the Bible and was firmly grounded in philosophy and history. Southern writers also contrasted the conditions of Northern wage workers as wage slaves forced to work long hours in factories and mines with the familial bond that could develop on plantations between slaves and masters. One of the southern authors George Fitzhugh questioned the principal of equal rights for unequal men and attacked the capitalist wage system as worse than slavery. Both the laws passed such as the fugitive slave law and the antislavery and proslavery literature, polarized the nation even more. Essay of Comparison between The Tiger and The Lamb, poems by William Blake The Tiger and The Lamb were poems by William Blake, a poet who lived in the 18th century. In this essay I am going to compare the two poems and examine links between them relating to rhymes, patterns and words used. Blake s background relates on the poems he wrote, and many of his works reflected his early home life. Blake in his childhood was an outcast, a loner, and didn t have many friends. His family believed very strongly in God and were extremely pious Christians but did not agree with the teachings of the church, so young William Blake often was made to think about God and his teachings during his studies. In the first verse it has the questions and in the second verse it has all the answers. If you were only to look at the poem briefly you would believe it was a children s poem, a hopscotch poem or playground chant, until you remember that Blake could not have known these as he did not attend school. The reader would think this because of the simple vocabulary, and also if you notice, the poem uses soft alliteration little lamb this gave a much softer feel to the poem, obviously putting one in mind of children and their innocence. Blake was a very holy and pious person. He often out biblical discourse into many of his poems, as I have stated before. I found some plain biblical tones in The Lamb the next quotation shows this point. He is meek, and he is mild . . . became a little child . This quotation is from the New Testament, where God was forgiving, whereas in the Old Testament God was believed to punish people for their sins i.e. Noah and the Ark, in which God drowns the entire human race apart from Noah and his family. The fact that there is biblical content in The Lamb is inspiring and was maybe meant to give a sense of hope.
