Essay on Benefits of Horse Slaughter Industry
The horse is a highly respected animal in United States culture. It has been worshipped and paid
tribute to through art, books (Misty of Chincoteague, Black Stallion), movies (Black Beauty,
Spirit), and television shows (Mr. Ed). The horse industry is huge in the United States,
encompassing everything from rodeos and racing to horses owned for purely pleasure. There have
been statues erected of famous racehorses, as well as museums devoted entirely to equines. Horse
culture is a huge part of American culture. The slaughter of horses for human consumption does not
seem to fit into that culture. However, despite initial reservations, many Americans may agree that
the slaughter of horses is better than alternatives.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Animal rights activists, as well as locals in the communities are trying to prevent both factories
from operating (Scripps Howard News Service, 3/8/01).
Recently, the Texas Humane Legislation Network has been leading the attack on the multimillion
dollar companies, citing a law from 1949 that prohibits possession, sale or shipment of horse meat
[intended] for human consumption (St. Petersburg Times, 9/4/02). Both companies have filed
lawsuits in retaliation. They state that the slaughter of horses eases financial strain, feeds other
nations, and is accomplished in a humane manner.
There are millions of horses in the United States; many of the horses are virtually worthless due
to poor training/treatment, bad attitudes, poor confirmation, lameness, sickness, and also simply
being old. Slaughter companies provide an affordable way for horse owners to dispose of their
unwanted animals. What do you do with the animal when it is diseased, or old, or lame? said
Geert DeWulf, general manager of Dallas Crown... `We provide an outlet (Scripps Howard News
Service, 3/8/01).
The benefits are not only felt by horse owners in short supply of money; recently in Europe, the
supply of meat from traditional sources, such as cattle, sheep and pigs has dwindled due to
epidemics in the herds, such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy or mad cow disease, as well as
hoof and mouth disease.

The Pros And Cons Of Redskin
Do you think the name Redskin is racist? Yes, it is and should be banned now. The NFL shouldn
t promote the racist term in commercials or in any apparel. The reason is because a study shows
that Native American teens that tend to see that stuff develop a low self esteem and do worse in
school. This will describe that this name is a racial slur that many people are offended by but not
a whole lot are. The mockery and profiting of the name many Native Americans take offense to .
The term Redskin is racist and has nothing to do with the team today and should be banned.

nobody realizes how it affects people of different races than others or even other groups. For

Becoming A Store Manager For Big O Tire Essay
In 2007, I was a mortgage originator and after the fall of the mortgage market I decided to make
my way back to the automotive world by becoming a store manager for Big O Tire. I was a store
manager for Evans Tire in the past and I knew that I could generate enough income to support
my family managing a service center again. I have seen a lot of automobiles come through the
service bay doors throughout the years with long overdue vehicle maintenance. One group of
vehicle owners seems to be the worst defenders of them all. The way BMW owners neglect their
prized possession is an incredibly deplorable act. I remembered having to explain to these
narcissistic vehicle owners why they needed to pay extra money for synthetic oil and how
skipping it just this once would not be okay. One gentlemen in particular used to put his dirty
engine air filter in front of his beaming headlights and would love to look to see if the light would
shine through. It passed the test put it back! He used to say every time with such passion. Of
course, he thought he was saving money on frivolous air filters, not thinking of the hidden cost of
his fuel mileage. The majority of Americans have a vast problem with the over consumption of fuel
while over paying at the pump. It s not just buying the correct grade gasolineat the pump that needs
to be addressed, the desire to increase the miles per gallon on the vehicles we drive is also
important. The average American does not seem to make

drivers are unsupervised and interact directly with clientele, it is of paramount importance that
drivers display professional attitudes and exemplary customer service. To aid better attitude and
exemplary job performance, it is recommended that a philosophy of autonomy and free will is
incorporated into the job narrative for drivers and dispatch. Studies show that when employees
leave that there is an element of free will in their work, they perform better and demonstrate better
workplace behavior (Stillman, 2010). Specifically, research has concluded that belief in free will
facilitates control behavior and buffers against impulsive action, which, in turn, translates to better
job performance (Stillman, 2010, p. 48). Therefore, by incorporating a philosophy of autonomy into
employee expectations and job analysis, Landslide Limousines will increase the positive
performance of employees.

The Problem With Body Dysmorphic Disorder ( Bdd )
Concerns about one s own appearance are not uncommon. The majority of people that dislike a
certain aspect of their appearance may occasionally refer to it negatively and leave it at that,
whereas someone with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) will refer to their perceived flaws so
much so that it affects their life on a daily basis (The BDD Alliance, 2016). About 1.7% to 2.4%
of the general population is affected by BDD, meaning that about 1 in 50 people have the
disorder (Phillips, n.d.). Fortunately, there is a generous amount of information available about
the history of BDD, which includes its causes, effects, treatments, and much more. History The
earliest documentation of BDD was made by Italian psychiatrist Enrico Morselli in 1891 (Vashi,
2015). He referred to it as dysmorphophobia , derived from the Greek word dysmorfia dys
meaning abnormal and morfia meaning shape (Phillips, 2009). In one of Morselli s papers, he
described BDD as: [...] the sudden appearance and fixation in the consciousness of the idea of
one s own deformity; the individual fears that he has become deformed [...] or might become
deformed, and experiences at this thought a feeling of an inexpressible disaster. ( History of
Body Dysmorphic Disorder , n.d.) While a lot has changed during the century since Morselli
documented BDD, the specifics of the disorder have remained relatively the same. Causes A
variety of theories have been proposed to explain the source of BDD, but a conclusive cause

Battle Of Midway
Who was involved?
In the battle of Midway, the first attack was committed by the Americans led by Admiral Nimitz
and Commander Fletcher inside the homeland of Japan. This forced the Japanese forces led by
Admiral Yamamoto (the same leader who planned to attack on Pearl Harbour) to push the
Americans in the middle of the Pacific Ocean where the actual battle was begun.
Why did they take the actions they did?
The reason behind this crucial battle was that as the Americans were pushed back in the middle
of the Pacific Ocean, the Japanese developed a plan to sneak up on the US forces. This was
deliberately done to trap the Americans aircraft carriers so they can destroy them. If the plan turned
to be successful, this would give the Japanese a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man and Jews Without Money
To be a minority is a very difficult task. Fighting daily prejudices and trying to establish a unique
identity that fits into society at the same time is often one of the hardest things for a different
person to do. Deciding one s daily activities and then watching the repercussions of those activities
can be discouraging at times. In the novels, The Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man, and Jews

While finding a unique identity, a person must be careful who he trusts. Giving valuable
information to a person who is not trustworthy can lead to destruction. Everything that is worked
for may as well be thrown away. Herman and the narrator learned this lesson the hard way.
Shortly after arriving in America, Herman started a suspender shop business with his cousin Sam
Kravitz. As soon as business was getting good, Herman went on a small excursion. When he
returned he found that [Sam] had stolen the shop (Gold 109). Everything he worked for was taken
away. His chance at his own identity vanished. The same sort of ideal happened to the narrator. He
was on his way to Atlanta University when he stayed over at a porter house. Without thinking
about it, he left his money and all his valuables in his trunk which was locked. When he returned a
dart of suspicion shot through [his] heart; the arrangement of things did not look familiar...[his]
money was gone (Johnson 44). Just as Herman s hard earned money disappeared, the narrator s did
as well. They were both left stranded to fight as minority s empty handed.

The Path of a Buddhist Essay
The Path of a Buddhist
Buddhism is a religion and philosophy based on the teachings of the Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama.
Today, Buddhism has an estimated seven hundred million followers, known as Buddhists. Most
practicing Buddhists believe in ideas such as karma, dharma, samsara and nirvana. In addition to
these, Buddhists base their lives and actions on the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.
Taught by Gautama, the Noble Eightfold path is a theory, that when put into action, serves as a way
to end suffering (The Noble Eightfold Path). In Buddhism, the belief is that life is suffering.
Through out his life, Gautama, searched endlessly for a means of liberation from this suffering.
The Noble Eightfold Path is a series of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also provides a means to grasp the impermanent and imperfect nature of worldly things, and to
understand the law of karma. It is the first teaching because one s worldview will determine one s
thoughts and right view yields right actions (The Noble Eightfold Path).
Right Intention deals with positive and negative energy and the commitment to mental self
improvement. The Buddha explains right intention as threefold: the intention of renunciation, the
intention of good will, and the intention of harmlessness . These intentions include the resistance of
desire, aversion or anger, and acts of cruelty or aggressiveness (Bodhi).
Right Speech is deeply emphasized among all Buddhist because of the severe consequences of
speech; words can save lives, make enemies or friends, start war or create peace. Buddha explained
his third principle as abstinence from false speech, abstinence from slanderous speech and not to
use words maliciously against others, abstinence from harsh words that offend or hurt others, and
finally abstinence from idle chatter that lacks purpose or depth (The Noble Eightfold Path).
Right Action encompasses many ideas in one principle. It gives restriction to the way one should
use their body. To a Buddhist Right Action includes but is not limited to abstaining from taking
another s life or one s own life, stealing and behaving unchastely. The idea of Right Action is based
in respect; self respect and respect for everything else that is

This results in the N terminal regulatory domain of BRAF being replaced, leading to
constitutively enhanced kinase activity (21). Five separate KIAA1549 BRAF fusion
configurations were originally described including between exons 16;9, 15;9, 16;11, 18;10, and
19;9 in order of prevalence (19). Fusions involving FAM131B and SRGAP3 with BRAF
resulting in similar kinase activation have also been described, although at significantly lower
frequencies (21, 22). Subsequent findings showed that RAS MAPK activation through BRAF
fusions are present in both grade I and grade II malignancies, although significantly less frequent
in the latter (21, 23 27). The presence of BRAF fusion events in pLGG has been shown to aid in
tumor diagnosis (28), predict clinical outcome (29, 30), and dictate the most appropriate
therapeutic approach (31 33), and, as such, represents a critical factor in the management of
pLGG. Besides BRAF, additional fusions such as those involving FGFR1, MYB/MYBL1, QKI,

kinase activation is the resultant effect. Due to their size and location, pLGG biopsies are
generally processed as formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue samples. As such, the use
of these tissue samples for the purposes of BRAF fusion detection requires specially designed and

Similarities Between Egypt And Ancient Civilizations
Throughout human history we have had government. Almost every civilization that humans have
founded over the years has had some form of government. They include dictatorships, republics,
oligarchies, and monarchies. Monarchies have been a common one through history. A monarchy
is a form of government in which a country is ruled by a figured such as king or emperor. Since it
was created many different forms of monarchy developed as different civilizations changed it to
meet their needs. They changed the roles the ruler played in the government to the way the ruler
was picked. Even though they changed much about it some civilizations used similar methods
when it came to their version of the monarchy. So while some places the monarchies looked very
different in other places they look very similar. This means that over the course of history from
ancient civilizations to modern forms of monarchies there have been similarities. Egypt was among
one of the large ancient civilizations in its time. It lasted around thirty centuries from its start to its
fall to Alexander the Great (History.com). Over this thirty century period the civilization saw many
different rulers and many different eras including the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, the
New Kingdom, and the Late period (Sayre 65 90). Over these many rulers or pharaohs as they
were called many different changes took place in Egypt. One thing did not change though and that
was that the pharaohs held the power over everyone in

Abstract: Diffusion is the transfer of molecules from an area that has a higher concentration to an
area that has a lower concentration. Osmosis is the diffusion of water. The purpose of this
experiment was to study the process of osmosis. In order to test osmosis, eggs that had been
soaking in vinegar were taken and placed in four beakers of solution with different levels of
glucose. Using this experiment we were able to determine the rate of osmosis of different solutions,
with various amounts of glucose, through eggs. In the results of this lab it was found that the eggs
were either hypertonic or hypotonic and that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The eggs were each individually placed in one of the beakers and were taken out and weighed
every 15 minutes for 60 minutes. Weighing the eggs helped to test the process of osmosis by
finding out the mass before and after soaking in water, this will dictate whether water has moved in
or out of the egg.
Materials and Methods Procedure is found on pages 235 to 236 in the BIOL 110 Lab Manual.
Results
Four eggs that were previously soaked in vinegar were placed into four beakers with different
levels of a glucose solution. The four beakers were filled with distilled water, 0.5M glucose,
1.5M glucose and 2.0M glucose. After the eggs were placed in the solutions, they were left for
60 minutes but weighed every 15 minutes to record whether there was an increase or a decrease
in mass. The various masses were recorded as well as the percent change in mass. These were
then recorded as line graphs. From this it was able to be determined if the egg had been in a
hypotonic, hypertonic or isotonic solution, thus being able to determine if osmosis had occurred.
Conclusion When the 4 eggs were weighed it was found that out of the 4 solutions, 2 were
hypotonic and 2 were hypertonic. The mass of 2 of the eggs increased and the other 2 decreased
after 60 minutes in the various solutions. Out of the 4, the most hypotonic solution was the distilled
water; and the most hypertonic solution was the solution with 2.0M glucose. The

Totalitarian Governments In George Orwell s Down With Big...
Down With Big Brother
A totalitarian government depends on subservience because its citizens are completely controlled
of mind and body. History is constantly revised and edited to keep its citizens ignorant, and
simple truths are easily ignored by the populace if told to do so. Constant war is waged by
totalitarian governments to have a reason to use up its resources and keep its citizens in a
suppressed state. The citizens of totalitarian governments are under constant monitoring, even by
their own family members. The totalitarian state is dependent on all of these factors, and because
of that, no freedoms can be given. Orwell s book 1984 serves as an insight and warning for
generations to come, as once a totalitarian government is established,

The Use Of Steroids In Professional Sports
Since the beginning of sports athletes have sought a way to get an advantage over their
opponents; Whether it be in ancient rome using berries to give a sight stimulation during
competition or today injecting steroids to shave that extra second off your run, the use of PED s
are all over sports and are not leaving anytime soon. Steroid use in sports should be legalized
because they will revolutionize the modern athlete, save thousands of money on drug tests, and no
more athletes will lose their careers over doping scandals. Today the modern athletes are expected
to perform at the top level in front of huge audiences, while most rise to the challenge some feel the
need for an extra edge to top off their performances. According to the USADA doping is anything

Essay On Anthony Bourdain
Anthony Bourdain was born on June 25, 1956 in New York City. Son to a copy editor and music
producer, he quickly learned to love literature and rock music. He has said that he was raised
without religion, and that his ancestors were Catholic on his father s side and his mother s side
they were Jewish, which definitely contributed to his later cooking styles. He has also stated that
his love for food came from a family vacation in France, where he tried an oyster. Graduating from
Dwight Englewood School in 1973, he then went on to Vassar college, dropping out after two years
to attend the Culinary Institute of America. He then spent more than 25 years as an unknown cook
in Manhattan, which caused him to fall into the city s drugculture.

situation? Red Star Key Issues: Inferior Company Leadership President Barry Louden failed to
manage the business at a high level, recognize the warning signs, and proactively deploy a strategy
for improvement. He fired his accountant and allowed the company to flounder, displaying no
sense of urgency, taking on increasing amounts of debt, and failing to reach out to Ashmark for

Had both of these courses of action been properly discussed and challenged before an ultimate
decision, Ashmark could have saved itself much heartache. Absence of Risk Assessment Early
Detection Measures No mechanisms were in place to adequately gauge the risks of doing
business with RS or detect financial issues even though Ashmark had employees on site at RS.
Had Ashmark assessed and weighed risks properly, it s unlikely that it would have placed all
emphasis on price and put 75% of its spend with a single company. Additionally, the fact that RS s
other customers bailed 6 months prior to the company s bankruptcy announcement (likely to due
price increases resulting from Ashmark s demands for lower prices) should have raised alarm. As
a result of failure to assess risk and late detection, Ashmark s actions in the end were too little too
late. Relationship Issues: Poor Communication Coordination Overall, it s fair to characterize the
relationship between Ashmark and RS as dysfunctional interdependence. The companies failed to
develop the close communication and coordination necessary to ensure two way success. Ashmark
was careless in its relationship management of what should have been a mutually beneficial
strategic partnership with RS, and RS chose not to express the adverse impact of Ashmark s
decisions or the severity of its issues so

(one experiment) and 2014 2015 (two experiments).
4.1 Frist season of 2013/2014 One experiment was designed to investigate the effect of three plant
spacing (20, 30 and 40 cm), three humic acid (HA) rates (control, 1000 and 2000 mg l 1), three
boron (B) rates (control, 100 and 200 mg l 1) and their interactions on the vegetative growth and
earliness as well as the green pods yield of broad bean crop. The effects of the different factors that
used in this study and their interaction on the various characters of broad bean plants are presented
in Tables (2 16).

broad bean plants resulted in a decrease in the number of leaves per plant, the lowest value of the
number of leaves plant 1 (132.2) was obtained from plants treated with 100 mg l 1, and there was
no significant effect among other levels of B.
4.1.1.4 Interaction Effects between Spacing and Humic Acid.
The statistical comparisons listed in Table (3) illustrated the presence of some interaction effects,
between spacing and HA on some vegetative growth characteristics of broad bean plants that
resulted in different relative responses for the various treatment combinations. These interaction
effects may be showed by the comparisons among the three different HA rates at each of the
different spacing of the plant height and number of leaves per plant. In wide plant spacing 40 cm,
the comparisons illustrated that the increases in HA up to 1000 or 2000 mg l 1 were associated
with significant decreases in the plant height and number of leaves per plant, which was not exactly
with spacing 20 and 30 cm.

ESSAY PLAN
Global Warming As Causes Of El Nino Southern Oscillation Phenomena
The advancements in various sectors in the life of human beings, which often exploit natural
resources without control, directly or indirectly lead to changes in the environment sustained effect
unconsciously towards the emergence of a disaster. The other thing is the changes of natural
phenomena that occur periodically turned into irregular and even a negative effect on habitat and
human life.
People unrealized that the way of our lives and conduct of our business lead into vulnerability. In
this case into global warming, which potentially create many problems more clearly. But the issue
becomes complicated since the cause of global warming itself derived from industrial and
agricultural activities that give people prosperity and welfare standards of living (Philander, 2004).
One of the phenomena that direct and directly affect people s habitat and life is El Nino Southern
Oscillation (ENSO). Based on Syamsuddin (Syamsuddin, et al., 2013), El Nino Southern
Oscillation (ENSO) can be defined as climate fluctuation in a large scale pattern of the globe that
influence powerfully. While McPhaden (Meyers, et al., 2007) stated that ENSO is one of climate
variability with a strong connection between the atmosphere and the ocean in the Pacific equatorial.
In a simple way ENSO can be concluded as a natural phenomenon caused by ocean atmosphere
interactions. Furthermore, the ENSO cycle divided

I have always liked the structure of liberal arts colleges, because of their main objective of shaping
a student s education in all areas of study. Grinnel College type of education is the most appealing

How Does the United Nations Support Environmental...
Introduction
About the United Nations
The United Nations is an international organization, which was founded in 1945 after the Second
World War, committed to providing the means to help resolve international conflicts and formulate
policies on matters affecting human beings all over the world (Wikipedia). The organization is
committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among
nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights (Wikipedia).
Ensuring environmental sustainability , climate change being one of the major factors, is one of the
millennium development goals of the UN. The United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP,
along with many organizations/agencies under the UN, collaboratively work towards achieving this
goal.
About the Chosen Aspect of Study
How does the United Nations support the millennium development goal of promoting
environmental sustainability by limiting climate change in South and North America? This
investigation shall focus on the previously mentioned question as this a very interesting topic to
further research on, also as I believe that the UN has played an enormous role in promoting
environmental sustainability in South and North America, and therefore would make a good topic
to further research on. This topic is worthy of studying as by knowing of what many before us have
done to protect and sustain the environment, we can look into aiding the environment to a

Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821 1881) was a Russian novelist, journalist, and short story writer that
discussed the psychological state of the human soul in many of his works, one in particular is Notes
from the Underground; which was published in 1864. Notes from the Underground, had a great
influence in the 20th century; the novel takes a man s inability to communicate with society and
uses it to teach readers about the importance of other humans in our daily lives and how that affects
the way we think, live, and learn. Although the narrator has alienated himself from society,

But never, never have I ceased to love that one, and even on the night I parted from him I loved

to describe his feelings in an intelligent manner and then the grammar of Dostoyevsky is a great
way to learn how to write because his words flow together like a river thus giving the character
attitude and passion for what he writes. The overall theme of Notes from the Underground is
alienation; however the novels theme is more complex than that. The novel gives readers an ethic
to take into account when they are feeling alienated. It takes all sides of alienation and
establishes the cons of it, an example of this is the way Underground Man deliberately arranges to

Ethnography of Basketball Fan Culture Part 1 Introduction As a basketball fanatic, I choose to

Moreover, studies (such as Meier, 1984) have found evidence that 2 6 centimeters of sea level rise

Analysis Of The Poem The Carnival
Using the carnival as a background is appropriate because it is a time of celebration when
everything is in chaos and people have lost their self control. The carnival may be a symbol of
Montresor s own madness and the crazy thoughts in his head. The carnival usually indicates joyful
social interaction but it is distorted by Montresor. Montresor s reference to the bones and vaults of
his family foreshadow the story s descent into the underworld. The underground travels of the two
men are a metaphor for their trip to hell. The carnival is essentially for the living but Montresor
takes it into the vaults underground, to the realm of the dead and the satanic. The setting Poe chose
for the story adds to the terror. Most of the events of the story runs in dark, damp tunnels piled with
the bones of dead people. By taking Fortunato into the vaults, Montresor cuts him off from help.
The two characters are underground and isolated. Taking Fortunato to the catacombs means a
descent into hell. The underground catacomb suggests confinement. This is called the Gothic
Interior. Poe writes: At the most remote end of the crypt there appeared another less spacious. Its
walls had been lined with human remains piled to the vault overhead, in the fashion of the great
catacombs of Paris. Three sides of this interior crypt were still ornamented in this manner. From the
fourth the bones had been thrown down, and lay promiscuously upon the earth, forming at one
point a mound of some size.

grandmother last Christmas, without your knowledge of them doing so. They hold too much
power over surveillance of U.S. citizens. There are plenty of incidents where the NSA (National
Security Agency) was caught taking files of citizens messages, incoming and outgoing phone calls.
Governmental surveillance is going too far, and now it seems like they are watching you at every

Essay On Jefferson Davis Death
Abraham Lincoln, the president of the United States of America, had a difficult job. Not only did
this man strive to unite the country once again, he also had the responsibility of deciding the fate
of Jefferson Davis, the former president of the Confederate States of America. Many Northerns
believed Jefferson should at least be imprisoned, if not put to death for his actions. Southerners, on
the other hand, viewed Davis as a hero and could not bear the thought of their hero being punished.
Wanting to keep the recently re united country at peace with one another, President Lincoln was left
in a bind.
Former Confederate President Jefferson Davis was arrested on May 10, 1865 at Irwinville, Georgia
by Northern soldiers. He was then transferred to Fort Monroe, Virginia where he was placed in
prison for two years. He was never tried for treason for fear that Davis would be able to
successfully prove that succession was legal. In May of 1867, almost exactly two years later, Davis
was released from prison on bail due to the funds of several wealthy ... Show more content on

While I believe Davis should have had some sort of punishment, I would not go as far to believe
he should be put to death, like many Northerns. I do not believe in the death sentence. The death
sentence is no different from murder, regardless of what the reasoning is; it is taking a life. In
Exodus 20, God gives the commandment, You shall not murder. The death sentence is murder.
Instead of a death sentence, I would sentence Jefferson Davis to life in prison. This man did
commit treason by leading a country that was viewed as illegally seceding. However, Davis did
not desire to become president of the Confederate States of America. He rather had the desire to be
the general of the Confederate states. A life in prison would ensure that Jefferson

Antigone Moral Dilemma
Antigone s Moral Dilemma Margaret Walsh South University Online Antigone s Moral Dilemma
Perhaps the most pronounced question in the play Antigone by Sophocles is the value of human
law vs. divine law. In this tragic play a newly appointed king Creon declares to his people that
treason was committed during battle, and one of the two brothers (Polyneices) killed shall not be
buried according to the Gods, but instead He shall be left unburied for all to watch the corpse
mutilated and eaten by carrion birds and by dogs (Sophocles, 1900.). This dilemma is felt by...

Antigone answers no to all that she finds to be vile, I have longer to please the dead than please
the living here: in the kingdom down below I ll lie forever (Sophocles, 1900. Lines 88 90).
These lines show how much personal power she possesses compared to King Creon. Antigone
remains consistent, even contentious in her disobedience. By offending the king, it is as if
Antigone is leaving him no choice and his prideful ways force him to sustain her sentence. After
Creon realizes that fulfilling his order may be a mistake , he also knows that he cannot retract the
ordering of her death. He had surrendered his actions to the power of the state, and thus rendering
himself to a loathsome state. Unlike Antigone, who finds free will and faith in the laws of the god
s. Playwrights such as Sophocles attempt to understand the meaning of human suffering and
reexamine the many traditions and ideals from the past. Greek mythology questions the public and
private responsibilities of individuals. As in any circumstance fighting against what is valued as
right can become a conflicting power. Antigone s decision to go through this treacherous act alone
enabled her to find peace within the divine laws of nature during her time. The act of surrendering
to a fate that was unjust prepared her for the desire she clung to despite its unbalanced position.

Difference Between Jazz And Jazz Music
Traditional jazz and brass bands are two of the most popular styles of music in New Orleans today.
In both of these styles, the culture and popular musical elements for the time strongly influenced
their evolution. While the two styles share common roots they differ in what they have evolved into
on a distribution and diversification level.
The slave trade in New Orleans brought hundreds of slaves from West Africa into a young and
developing city. With them came their cultures and music styles. As slaves, a sense of community
became essential to their joint and individual survival. And, since New Orleans afforded their urban
slaves with the ability to congregate, they began to express this West African culture in the form of
music. It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Creating And Developing A Group Dance Performance With A...
Demonstrate an understanding of the processes involved in creating and developing a group dance
performance with a particular focus on choreography
Introduction
Choreography is the act of creating movement to produce dance. It is a creative process that
requires knowledge of how the process functions (Minton, 2007). Smith Autard (2010) believes
there is a vast difference between dancing and choreographing. Dancing can be enjoyed for
pleasure and the expression of feeling but to choreograph movement is to create a work of art
(Smith Autard, 2010: 3). According to Smith Autard, (2010) a work of art has to be created with the
composer s intention to communicate a theme or emotion. The movement content is an abstraction
from actual feelings of the choreographer, or the character of the dance that is being portrayed,
which creates a representation of the work that is significant to the dance idea as an entity.
Composition is the bringing together of smaller sections that can be worked on to create one
overall piece. The process of refinement and reflection to develop choreography demonstrates how
composition begins as small sections of movement. Basic compositional elements include space,
time and theme (Lambert, 2015).
Improvisation is a way of exploring new methods of movement it is a method of self expression
and discovery. Improvisational dance movements came during the 1960′s and 1970′s where
an artistic revolution, known as the post modern movement, made the dancer

Creating A Better Recognition System
ABSTRACT
Bangla word recognition is extremely challenging and there are too few works reported on online
cursive Bangla word recognition. Bangla is a complicated script and it needs rigorous
investigations to implement a better recognition system. While we have sophisticated classifiers
like Hidden Markov Models or BLSTM Neural Networks for recognition of complicated scripts, we
have very little comparative studies about the appropriate feature sets for such scripts. In this paper,
our aim is to implement an appropriate recognition system for author independent unconstrained
Bangla word where a modified feature set is proposed. To construct the modified feature set, we
modify existing feature sets and add new features for improvement of recognition accuracy. We
test performances of various existing feature sets and proposed feature set on same Bangla dataset
for fair comparison and report the comparative results using various lexicons upto 20,000 word
lexicon. Each time an HMM based classifier is used to test the feature set. Finally, a recognition
system is built over the combination of existing and modified feature sets.
Keywords: Online handwriting recognition, online character recognition, lexicon driven approach,
Bangla script, Indic script, cursive text recognition.

Creating Robots for a Universal Purpos
There are over 8.6 million robots in the world that have been created for a universal purpose. That
purpose is to improve human life. They do this in many different ways like for example; Robots
are used in the Auto Industry to help build automobiles on assembly lines. It takes around twenty
four hours on average to build a new automobile in a factorywith the help of these robots. Without
the machinery that is being used on these assembly lines it could take anywhere from three days
to a week to build one automobile. That would also affect the price of said automobile and make it
harder to purchase automobiles. Robots help improve many more functions in everyday life. The
purpose of this project is to prove that robots improve upon human life and that the robots should be
used more often.
The first robot was hand built in between four hundred and three hundred fifty B.C. The inventor
of the robot was mathematician Archytas. The robot functioned as a steam powered pigeon. The
robot actually worked and at one point flew two hundred meters before it ran out of steam and
landed on the ground. The robot was not very helpful. But it at the time was a great sign of what
was to come in the future. The latest robots to be created are unrecognizable compared to this very
first model.
Robots are used every day in countries across the world in assembly lines. An assembly line is a
series of workers and machines in a factory by which a succession of identical items is progressively

Essay The Importance of Gender in Buffy, The Vampire Slayer
The Importance of Gender in Buffy, The Vampire Slayer
What is gender? The answer to that is not so simple. Gender is what culture makes out of the raw
material of biological sex, (Unger and Crawford, 1995). Also, there is a difference between what
is gender identity and what is a gender role; a difference which seems to be even more difficult to
differentiate between than the words gender and sex . Media and other parts of our culture seem to
believe they know the difference, yet up until a certain period in time, the same stereotypical
characters were portrayed and used as role models for others in most media. Women characters
being the helpless victims, while the strong men would come to save them (including television ...

At the same time, though, the show allows its characters to explore their own ideas of what gender
is, and how those ideas come into play with the ideas of the people in their environment.
In the film, Buffy is a strong, demon fighting woman, taking on opponents who only she can do
any damage to; whereas the men in her life (Pike and Merrick) must stand back or they might be
hurt. But upon speaking, Buffy practically epitomized the reason for every dumb blond female
joke. She did not understand big words, and spoke in the true stereotypical California girl
manner, using the like after almost every other word. She seemed like an airhead, and up until
she truly understood what her destiny was, she spoke and acted like one. But the film version
was meant to be a flaky comedy , while the television series is many times referred to being a
dramedy (it is considered a drama, in this case, a science fiction/action drama, with a bit of
comedy to keep it light .) In the television series, although Buffy still speaks in slang and still
appears to be the reason a dumb blond joke was ever invented, her vocabulary has become much
more mature and clear. She is more in control of what is happening, or has happened to her, and
is beginning to harness herself as her own person, her own identity. She is not acting, or trying to
be a certain type of person because everyone is telling her that that is who she is. Instead she is
taking her identity and molding it; shaping it

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Throughout history, Shakespeare has been given credit for the popularizing of tragedies, causing
a tragic hero to be seen as a reputable character. In Shakespeare s story Romeo and Juliet, two ill
fated lovers are caught between the bitter hatred of their two families. Knowing their parents
would never approve, Romeo and Juliet struggle to keep their love a secret. Though the story ends
in what most people would view as a tragedy, Romeo fails to meet the characteristics of a tragic hero
established by Aristotle, who first created the literary term. There are five distinguishing
characteristics of a tragic hero identified by Aristotle: noble birth, a flaw resulting in the
character s eventual downfall, a reversal of fate caused by the flaw, an increase in self
awareness, and withdrawing a feeling of pity from the audience. Romeo is born of a noble birth
and has a major flaw that will cause his eventual unfortunate fate, but he never achieves a greater
sense of self awareness. In conjunction with not enhancing his own self awareness, he also does
not inspire the audience to feel sympathy for him. When Shakespeare introduces the story of
Romeo and Juliet, he gives the impression that Romeo will develope into a perfect tragic hero. In
the opening line of the prologue, the Montagues are described as a wealthy and powerful family,
Two households, both alike in dignity (1.Prologue.1). Romeo s noble birth remains unknown until
the Capulets bawl, at which Capulet explains to

Film Analysis Of The Film Blue Velvet
The film Blue Velvet was written and directed by David Lynch in 1986. This movie was inspired
by Bobby Vinton s cover of the song Blue Velvet that was released in 1963. In the film, David
Lynch showed stylization through the opening and closing montages, as well as the ear of
Denmark. Another stylized moment seen within this filmis through the odd connection between
Booth and Lincoln. Blue Velvet is a cult hit dealing with violence, sex, and kidnapping, all being
glorified. Within the movie, the camera zooms into the ear, which is significant within the film
because it starts Jeffery s shady journey. In the movie, it starts off showing viewers a blue velvet

Despite the disease, Jeffery put inside her and her conflicting facial expression, Dorothy can go

age. Many times throughout the movie, sexualized scenes are shown. A specific scene was at the
beginning of the movie when Jeffery s dad begins to have a stroke while watering the grass. As
he falls, the nozzle of the garden hose is right where his crotch is. According to Professor
McBride, this is necessary for the dog to continuously pound on him as it instinctively barks at and

this scene, a young child sees this animalistic outbreak, which relates back to a Freudian

He referred to it as dysmorphophobia , derived from the Greek word dysmorfia dys meaning abnormal and morfia meaning shape (Phillips, 2009). In one of Morselli s papers, he described BDD as: [...] the sudden appearance and fixation in the consciousness of the idea of one s own deformity; the individual fears that he has become deformed [...] or might become deformed, and experiences at this thought a feeling of an inexpressible disaster. This forced the Japanese forces led by Admiral Yamamoto (the same leader who planned to attack on Pearl Harbour) to push the Americans in the middle of the Pacific Ocean where the actual battle was begun. Why did they take the actions they did? The reason behind this crucial battle was that as the Americans were pushed back in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the Japanese developed a plan to sneak up on the US forces. This was deliberately done to trap the Americans aircraft carriers so they can destroy them. If the plan turned to be successful, this would give the Japanese a ... Shortly after arriving in America, Herman started a suspender shop business with his cousin Sam Kravitz. As soon as business was getting good, Herman went on a small excursion. When he returned he found that [Sam] had stolen the shop (Gold 109). Everything he worked for was taken away. His chance at his own identity vanished. The same sort of ideal happened to the narrator. Fusions involving FAM131B and SRGAP3 with BRAF resulting in similar kinase activation have also been described, although at significantly lower frequencies (21, 22). Subsequent findings showed that RAS MAPK activation through BRAF fusions are present in both grade I and grade II malignancies, although significantly less frequent in the latter (21, 23 27). The presence of BRAF fusion events in pLGG has been shown to aid in tumor diagnosis (28), predict clinical outcome (29, 30), and dictate the most appropriate therapeutic approach (31 33), and, as such, represents a critical factor in the management of pLGG. Besides BRAF, additional fusions such as those involving FGFR1, MYB/MYBL1, QKI, and NTRK2/3 have also been described in pLGG (34 37). As is seen in the BRAF fusions, kinase activation is the resultant effect. • 19. Similarities Between Egypt And Ancient Civilizations Throughout human history we have had government. Almost every civilization that humans have founded over the years has had some form of government. They include dictatorships, republics, oligarchies, and monarchies. Monarchies have been a common one through history. A monarchy is a form of government in which a country is ruled by a figured such as king or emperor. Since it was created many different forms of monarchy developed as different civilizations changed it to meet their needs. They changed the roles the ruler played in the government to the way the ruler was picked. Even though they changed much about it some civilizations used similar methods when it came to their version of the monarchy. So while some places the monarchies looked very different in other places they look very similar. This means that over the course of history from ancient civilizations to modern forms of monarchies there have been similarities. Egypt was among one of the large ancient civilizations in its time. It lasted around thirty centuries from its start to its fall to Alexander the Great (History.com). Over this thirty century period the civilization saw many different rulers and many different eras including the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, the New Kingdom, and the Late period (Sayre 65 90). Over these many rulers or pharaohs as they were called many different changes took place in Egypt. One thing did not change though and that was that the pharaohs held the power over everyone in ... Osmosis is the diffusion of water. The purpose of this experiment was to study the process of osmosis. In order to test osmosis, eggs that had been soaking in vinegar were taken and placed in four beakers of solution with different levels of glucose. The eggs were each individually placed in one of the beakers and were taken out and weighed every 15 minutes for 60 minutes. Weighing the eggs helped to test the process of osmosis by finding out the mass before and after soaking in water, this will dictate whether water has moved in or out of the egg. Materials and Methods Procedure is found on pages 235 to 236 in the BIOL 110 Lab Manual. Results Four eggs that were previously soaked in vinegar were placed into four beakers with different levels of a glucose solution. The four beakers were filled with distilled water, 0.5M glucose, 1.5M glucose and 2.0M glucose. After the eggs were placed in the solutions, they were left for 60 minutes but weighed every 15 minutes to record whether there was an increase or a decrease in mass. The various masses were recorded as well as the percent change in mass. These were then recorded as line graphs. From this it was able to be determined if the egg had been in a hypotonic, hypertonic or isotonic solution, thus being able to determine if osmosis had occurred. Conclusion When the 4 eggs were weighed it was found that out of the 4 solutions, 2 were hypotonic and 2 were hypertonic. The mass of 2 of the eggs increased and the other 2 decreased after 60 minutes in the various solutions. Out of the 4, the most hypotonic solution was the distilled water; and the most hypertonic solution was the solution with 2.0M glucose. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The overall theme of Notes from the Underground is alienation; however the novels theme is more complex than that. The novel gives readers an ethic to take into account when they are feeling alienated. It takes all sides of alienation and establishes the cons of it, an example of this is the way Underground Man deliberately arranges to be in a place where he is going to meet the officer just to refuse to move aside, allowing himself ... Ethnography of Basketball Fan Culture Ethnography of Basketball Fan Culture Part 1 Introduction As a basketball fanatic, I choose to investigate how fan culture surrounding basketball has grown and has become such a fan oriented league. Basketball has expanded and has become a global phenomenon allowing fans to interact with athletes and change the way fans watch basketball through social media. Being a basketball fan where you could only watch your favorite teams games on television and listen on the radio to now being able to stream live games online with your laptop, phone, tablet, etc. There was a time players could only show their personalities by interviews and newspaper but with social media exposure, fans get to see their favorite basketball in another way from just seeing them on the court. In a way, fans feel more attached to a player having to interact with a certain player on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram rather then just reading about them, they get a first hand experience. Part 2 Review Of Literature NBA fan culture and its interactions with players have revolutionized the league over the years. Fans only had the ability to either watch on TV or go see the game but now with Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts, there s a whole new way for fans to interact with athletes and stay connected. A paradigm shift has taken place in the American culture where fans feel a need for instant gratification. Social media now allows fans to fill their need without needing ... • 37. Analysis Of The Poem The Carnival Using the carnival as a background is appropriate because it is a time of celebration when everything is in chaos and people have lost their self control. The carnival may be a symbol of Montresor s own madness and the crazy thoughts in his head. The carnival usually indicates joyful social interaction but it is distorted by Montresor. Montresor s reference to the bones and vaults of his family foreshadow the story s descent into the underworld. The underground travels of the two men are a metaphor for their trip to hell. The carnival is essentially for the living but Montresor takes it into the vaults underground, to the realm of the dead and the satanic. The setting Poe chose for the story adds to the terror. Most of the events of the story runs in dark, damp tunnels piled with the bones of dead people. By taking Fortunato into the vaults, Montresor cuts him off from help. The two characters are underground and isolated. Taking Fortunato to the catacombs means a descent into hell. The underground catacomb suggests confinement. This is called the Gothic Interior. Poe writes: At the most remote end of the crypt there appeared another less spacious. Its walls had been lined with human remains piled to the vault overhead, in the fashion of the great catacombs of Paris. Three sides of this interior crypt were still ornamented in this manner. From the fourth the bones had been thrown down, and lay promiscuously upon the earth, forming at one point a mound of some size. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Demonstrate an understanding of the processes involved in creating and developing a group dance performance with a particular focus on choreography Introduction Choreography is the act of creating movement to produce dance. It is a creative process that requires knowledge of how the process functions (Minton, 2007). Smith Autard (2010) believes there is a vast difference between dancing and choreographing. Dancing can be enjoyed for pleasure and the expression of feeling but to choreograph movement is to create a work of art (Smith Autard, 2010: 3). According to Smith Autard, (2010) a work of art has to be created with the composer s intention to communicate a theme or emotion. The movement content is an abstraction from actual feelings of the choreographer, or the character of the dance that is being portrayed, which creates a representation of the work that is significant to the dance idea as an entity. Composition is the bringing together of smaller sections that can be worked on to create one overall piece. The process of refinement and reflection to develop choreography demonstrates how composition begins as small sections of movement. Basic compositional elements include space, time and theme (Lambert, 2015). Improvisation is a way of exploring new methods of movement it is a method of self expression and discovery. While we have sophisticated classifiers like Hidden Markov Models or BLSTM Neural Networks for recognition of complicated scripts, we have very little comparative studies about the appropriate feature sets for such scripts. In this paper, our aim is to implement an appropriate recognition system for author independent unconstrained Bangla word where a modified feature set is proposed. To construct the modified feature set, we modify existing feature sets and add new features for improvement of recognition accuracy. It takes around twenty four hours on average to build a new automobile in a factorywith the help of these robots. Without the machinery that is being used on these assembly lines it could take anywhere from three days to a week to build one automobile. That would also affect the price of said automobile and make it harder to purchase automobiles. Robots help improve many more functions in everyday life. The purpose of this project is to prove that robots improve upon human life and that the robots should be used more often. The first robot was hand built in between four hundred and three hundred fifty B.C. The inventor of the robot was mathematician Archytas. The robot functioned as a steam powered pigeon. The robot actually worked and at one point flew two hundred meters before it ran out of steam and landed on the ground. The robot was not very helpful. • 52. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare Throughout history, Shakespeare has been given credit for the popularizing of tragedies, causing a tragic hero to be seen as a reputable character. In Shakespeare s story Romeo and Juliet, two ill fated lovers are caught between the bitter hatred of their two families. Knowing their parents would never approve, Romeo and Juliet struggle to keep their love a secret. Though the story ends in what most people would view as a tragedy, Romeo fails to meet the characteristics of a tragic hero established by Aristotle, who first created the literary term. Within the movie, the camera zooms into the ear, which is significant within the film because it starts Jeffery s shady journey. In the movie, it starts off showing viewers a blue velvet curtain. According to page one of the Stylized moments chapter, this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The happy closure is unconvincing when applying the next day template to expect the memories and aftershocks of Frank s disease to be wiped out by his death , McBride said. I disagree with this. The ending of the movie symbolized peace in my opinion. Despite the disease, Jeffery put inside her and her conflicting facial expression, Dorothy can go back to living her normal, American dream. The primal scene is focused on Jeffery coming of age. Many times throughout the movie, sexualized scenes are shown. A specific scene was at the beginning of the movie when Jeffery s dad begins to have a stroke while watering the grass. As he falls, the nozzle of the garden hose is right where his crotch is. According to Professor McBride, this is necessary for the dog to continuously pound on him as it instinctively barks at and bites the streaming water. This scene and set up shows how animalistic these attacks are. During this scene, a young child sees this animalistic outbreak, which relates back to a Freudian assumption. Since this film has the Freudian sensation right at the beginning, it makes it obvious that this film will be an erotic one. Something else that was important in the primal scene was Lynch first provides this child witnessing a perplexing violent attack as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
