What Was The Rationale At Common Law For Making Burglary...
Short Response
Q.1. What was the rationale at common law for making burglary and arson felonies? Both burglary
and arson have the word dwelling in their statutes. Under common law, a dwelling referred to a person
s home (and under common law, the crime of burglary had to materialize after dark, when people are
more likely to be home). These types of crimes are aggravated when there are people present in the
dwelling at the time of the crime. Thus, the rationale at common law for both of these crimes to be
treated as felonies was to protect an innocent person at home.
Q.2. What is the difference between the crimes of robbery and extortion? Both robbery and extortion
are theft crimes that use force or threats of force/coercion. Both of the crimes also require the specific
intent to permanently deprive the owner of property. However, they differ in a number of ways. In the
case of robbery, there must be immediate threat of harm whereas extortion requires threat of future
harm. Therefore, in robberies, the compliance must also be immediate and in the case of extortion,
victims may need to comply at some point in the future. In robberies, physical harm is used to deprive
the victim of property. In extortion, the harm may be physical, economic, or it can be the exposure of a
secret. Because physical harm is the preferred method of choice in robberies, the crime occurs in
person rather than through mail or over the phone like in the case of extortion.

Informative Essay On The King Cake
Brynn Hardie
30 January, 2017
Mrs. Heidi Baccigalopi
HISTORY Today I will be talking about the history of King Cakes and Mardi Gras. The King Cake is
a brioche style cake traditionally made throughout the State of Louisiana during the weeks prior to
Mardi Gras. The King Cake tradition is thought to have been brought to New Orleans from France in
1870. The celebration of Mardi Gras came to North America from France where it had been celebrated
since the Middle Ages. It s decorated in royal colors of PURPLE which signifies justice , GREEN for
Faith , and GOLD for power . Today in New Orleans, the king cake is an oval shaped braided cake
similar to a coffee cake which has cinnamon within the braids ... Show more content on

In 1871, the tradition of choosing Queen of Mardi Gras was determined by who drew the prize within
the cake. Today, such a find is still deemed to be a sign of good luck and it customary for the person
who discovers the hidden plastic baby to host the next party. In the past such things as coins, beans,
pecans, or peas were also hidden in each King Cake. In the early 19th century, the public celebration
of Mardi Gras consisted mainly of maskers on foot, in carriages and on horseback. In 1837, a
costumed group of revealers walked in the first documented parade , but the violent behavior of
maskers during the next two decades caused the press to call for an end to Mardi Gras. Fortunately, six
New Orleanains who were former members of the Cowbellions, a group that presented New Years Eve
parades in Mobile, AL, saved the New Orleans Mardi Gras by forming the Comus organization in
1857. The men beautified the celebration and proved that it could be enjoyed in a safe manner. Comus
coined the word Krewe and established several Mardi Gras traditions by forming a secret

One year later, Dr. Hollerith won a contest held by the U.S. Census Bureau with his tabulating
machine that eventually saved the government agency $5 million and years of work. He then
organized his company in 1896, and finally incorporated the Tabulating Company in 1905.
The third installment of the Computing Tabulating Recording Company s predecessor is the recording
industry. Many different companies invented their own type of recording device. Dr. Alexander Dey of
Dey Patents Co. (later Dey Time Register Company) invented the first dial recorder in 1888. Willard
Bundy invented the first time clock that could record the arrival and departure of employees. Harlow
Bundy incorporated the Bundy Manufacturing Company with his brother Willard s time clock as its
main product. Bundy then acquired the Standard Time Stamp Company, which produced time stamps
and card recorders, and soon after came up with the key punch as their job time recorder. The Chicago
Time Register Company created the first autograph time recorder, and manufactured key, card, and
autograph employee time recorders. J. Willard and F. Frick formed the first time card recording
company. In 1900, the International Time Recording Company is formed by George Fairchild to be
the selling agent for the recording industry. Their suppliers included Dey Time Register Company,

Compare And Contrast Essay On Dollar Metal Coin
Which one, the dollar metal coin or the dollar paper bill? Is one form of the dollar better sufficient for
the environment? Billions of coins and bills are used every day in the U.S and the production of this
system of money is generating risks to the environment. The coin and the bill have different
attributions to the environment, the cycle to produce a single coin/bill requires various materials and
processes. The one dollar metal coin is greener than a one dollar paper bill, the dollar coin is fitter for
the economy and the environment as the coin has several advantages over the dollar bill. The coin
benefits more the environment as it damages less and last more than a bill. The average dollar coin

Value Analysis Of Boeing
Boeing 787 Dreamliner Boeing is a global company that designs, manufactures, and sells airplanes. It
is amongst the largest aerospace companies that manufacturers commercial jetliners and is second
largest defense contractor. Boeing is also a leader manufacturer in space and security systems. Boeing
began in Seattle, WA in 1910 and now their headquarters are in Chicago, IL and is the largest exporter
in the United States. The Boeing Company adopted the radical change approach because they were
trying to accelerate development time and reduce overall costs. Boeing actively embraced outsourcing
to their supply chain that involved over 40 suppliers in about 100 different locations around the world.
According to Forbes Magazine, The approach was intended to reduce the 787 s development time
from six to four years and development cost from $10 to $6 billion.
In the 1990 s the company Airbus started stealing market share from Boeing. Boeing responded by
innovating their products using value analysis. According to Professor Todd s chapter four slide 12,
value analysis is the examination of the function of parts and materials to reduce the cost and/or
improve the performance of a product. Boeing has traditionally used aluminum for their airplanes, but
changed their 787 to carbon fiber, aluminum, and titanium. This allowed for increased humidity and
maintained pressure within the cabin; which also would reduce maintenance and replacement costs
(Denning, 2013). This makes the

Character Analysis Of The Movie We Were Soldiers
In the movie We Were Soldiers the main character Lieutenant Colonel Harold Hal Moore was played
by Mel Gibson. The movie is based upon the best selling book We Were Soldiers Once ... and Young
by Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore (Ret.) and journalist Joseph L. Galloway. LTC Moore was tasked with
leading and commanding the newly created air cavalry unit. Upon arrival to his new unit, he studied
his new War horse the Bell UH 1D Iroquois helicopter. He first introduced himself and his SGM to the
Officers and set expectations and the standards by stating Welcome to the new Cavalry we will ride
into Battle and this will be our horse. You don t have to catch it you don t have to feed it. But I can
ensure you that neither the new technology nor your status as Officers will keep you above the danger.
He then spoke of the culture that his SGM and himself came from. SGM Plumley and I come from the
paratroopers where the Officer is always the first one out of the plane. Because to follow your instinct
and to inspire your men by your example you have to be with them. Where the metal meets the meat.
LTC Moore s style of leadership was one that instilled confidence and set high expectations and
standards for his leaders. He stressed taking care of each other and implemented tough and realistic
training in order to ensure the best chance of his Soldiers surviving in battle. He believed in cross
training and decentralization. In a field training exercise, he killed off the

My s House And I Saw A Ghost
When I was nine years old I was at my Amma s house and I saw a ghost. I was mortified and confused
during the situation, and the morning after I quickly told my family who was scared and just in
shocked . It all happened on Christmas night. On Christmas Eve, my mom, sister, and I drove down to
my Amma s house in Illinois. My sister and I spent Christmas Eve going to mass and baking
Christmas cookies with Amma. That night we laid cookies and milk out for Santa and went to bed.
Soon it was Christmas morning. Isabelle and I ran down the long staircase and into the living room
excited to see under the large tree was an abundant amount of gifts for everyone. Isabelle and I opened
all our presents and got ready for the rest of the family to come over to exchange more gifts and have
a Christmas Feast. Christmas music played around and the smell of gingerbread and wine filled the
house. The house was filled with poinsettias and sparkly decorations. The sound of laughing and the
ripping of wrapping paper was about. After we all exchanged gifts with the rest of the family, we ate
dinner in the grand dining room and retold old Christmas memories. The night couldn t get any better
than this. After dinner us grandkids helped clean up and played with all our new toys. Soon my aunt
and uncle and my two young cousins left along with my grandpa, family friends, and my other aunt,
uncle and cousin. My two cousins Colleen and Meghan planned to stay the night. My mom, Amma,

By having much capital than Chinese people, Europeans like US people can control the Chinese

As I had already presented how the European domination was emerged by the historical factors, now I

factors. 1. The discursive models of refugees, migrants, and immigrants in USA are maintaining the

2. The European s lead and contents in mass media are causing and maintaining the European
domination in China. Based on what we discussed about the media topic in class, I believe media is
also a way to cause and maintain the European domination in societies. For instance, the content of
media usually reports the positive sides of the European things such as places, enviroment, and
behaves instead of the negative sides. More clearly, the mass media constantly extols the Europeans
among Asians. Therefore, this brainwashing praises from media improves the social status of
Europeans in different places, especially in Asian places. 3. The modern policies from goverments are
also causing and maintaining the European domination in societies. It just likes what we had
disccussed in class that the US government provides poor education s policies to the Asians. Since
Asians have a poor education in US, no one can obtain a better job in knowledge based society in US.
Constantly, US government provides good education policies to European Americans. Therefore, the
European Americans can obtain better jobs and become a domination group in

School Counselor Reflection
As a future school counselor, I can reflect that these past eight weeks, I have a full understanding of
the roles and responsibilities of a school counselor in a traditional high school. Practicum 2 has been
learning experiences that I will remember as I start my new profession. I believe that being exposed
and actively involved with a group of school counselors brought a wide range of knowledge that I plan
to utilize in the future. As a continuum from my Practicum 1, the following CACREP standards are
mentioned below.
Counseling Helping Relationships Serving students with different backgrounds, personalities, or
beliefs may not be the easiest thing to do, as their thought process may differ. Therefore, it is essential
for school counselors to find healthy ways to build on a school counselor student relationship. There
are several characteristics or behaviors that I feel school counselors should have, that helps them
maintain a relationship with their students. Students can be more willing to open up their thoughts or
accept suggestions when the school counselor is a good listener. A lot of the times, we can think that
we have to do all the talking, but is necessary to step back and listen at the students first. Also, school
counselors must be friendly and easy to approach. Students can feel more comfortable with
individuals they like and accept. In addition, it is essential for all school counselors to appreciate
diversity. It is important for school counselors to

Symptoms And Treatment Of Psoriasis
The term comorbidity refers to the association of two distinct diseases in the same individual at a rate
higher than expected by chance (Bonavita and De Simone, 2008).
Although psoriasis has been previously thought to be a disease solely affecting primarily the skin and
the joints, our understanding of the comorbidities that may be associated with this disease has grown
significantly. Recent evidence has even suggested an increased over all risk of mortality in patients
with severe psoriasis (Gelfand JM et al., 2007).
The presence of comorbidities in dermatology is of interest for various reasons. A skin disease can be
an early marker of systemic disease, and therefore, identify patients who are at risk of having other,

A study by Cohen et al. (2008), supported previous reports of an association between psoriasis and
diabetes mellitus. The age adjusted proportion of diabetes was found to be significantly higher in
psoriasis patients as compared to the control group. A possible explanation for the association between
psoriasis and diabetes is the presence of chronic inflammation that occurs due to secretion of TNF a
and other proinflammatory cytokines such as IL 1 and IL 6, which precipitate both psoriasis and
diabetes.
2) Non Alcoholic Fat Liver Disease (NAFLD)
Prevalence of NAFLD in patients with psoriasis ran¬ges from 17 60% and is even greater in patients
with severe psoriasis and PsA ( Miele et al., 2009) .Similarly, Gisondi et al. speculated that NAFLD
may contribute to the seve rity of psoriasis through the release of inflammatory mediators from the
liver, including reactive oxygen species, CRP and IL 6, which also act as mediators of atherogenesis
(Gisondi et al., 2009),Moreover, patients with psoriasis and NAFLD have higher risk of developing
non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhosis than patients with NAFLD without psoriasis
(Wenk et al., 2009). At least in part, progres¬sion of NAFLD to NASH is associated with an increa¬se
in the TNFa/adiponectin ratio. (Sanz Lp , 2007).

Early Moblization
Early Mobilization in ICU Care Coordination Sary Valles Farmingdale State Collage October 9, 2014
Early Mobilization in ICU Care Coordination The situation of Length of Stay (LOS) is a complex
issue of the healthcare environment. Each patient requires the effort of many different resources both
people and equipment before they are clinically fit to go home or more to the next stage of their
healthcare journey. Failure to coordinate and synchronize resources across the entire patient journey
results in a major loss of optimal care for the patient as well as wasted expense. For the patient the
consequences of this delay can be dire. One solution to this growing epidemic is being initiated in the

Many of the nurses are intimidated at the idea of ambulating vent depended patients. The fear of
harming the patients is a justifiable concern that many of the staff ICU nurses have. Reeducation and
supplying safe adequate staff will encourage a change in the culture in the ICU. Part Five of the
algorithm was the goal of early mobilization. This part identified the specific progression of patients
goals and developing an individual mobility care of plan. Encouraging family members to mobilize
the patient when appropriate will aid in the progression of the patients goal. The six and finally part of
the algorithm details the implementation of early mobilization. Based on the implementation of the
algorithm, mobility must be scaled and be progressive. Mobility is the responsibility of all team
members including patients and family. ICUs are complex systems which may be inadequate to
support needed changes. Teamwork and collaboration in the ICU often is non existent between
disciplines. To effect change, needed cooperation of multiple disciplines, including physicians, nurses,
respiratory therapist, and physical therapist are required. Sense of urgency needs to be established for

How to Patent a Website Idea: Everything You Need to Know
If you want to learn how to patent a website idea, it is important that you understand the steps
necessary to protect your website idea from others that may try to profit from your idea. For example,
a utility patent is the most common type of patent. It covers the functional aspects of an invention. In
order for an invention to qualify for patent protection, it must be useful, new, and non obvious. This
means that it must be have some sort of purpose, or otherwise, be useful to potential consumers. It
must be new, which means that the invention cannot be similar to another invention already patented.

Provisional Patents for Websites
A provisional patent application is filed with the USPTO and establishes an early filing date, but doesn
t amount to a formal patent application unless and until the applicant files a non provisional patent
application within the 12 months subsequent to filing the non provisional patent. A provisional patent
application is both less detailed and less costly. Immediately after you file your provisional patent
application, you can indicate that your website idea is patent pending. During this time period, you can
develop your website idea even further and turn your provisional patent application into a formal non
provisional patent application.
With a provisional application, you ll want to prepare diagrams and drawings of your website when
filing the application. When drafting the diagrams, consider the user interface itself, the software
generated process, and the administrative screens/cods/software used to maintain the website. Since
there are many unique business processes involved in your website, you want to keep each one
distinct, showcasing the unique methods and processes utilized, and how your website came together.
The more specific and detailed you can be, the higher your chance of patent protection. Always be
mindful that you can hire a qualified patent attorney to assist you with preparing your application. You
can even hire a professional to assist in the drawings,

Texas Triangle Research Paper

Texas Triangle:
The Texas Triangle is one of only eleven megaregions in the United States. Megaregions are urban
areas that are much superior in scale than a metropolitan statistical area (MSA), as defined by the US
Census Bureau. Sometimes areas like this are also called a as megapolitan area. The Texas Triangle is
formed by the three major cities; Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, and San Antonio. These cities are
connected by a three major Interstates 45, 10, and Interstate 35. If you followed those main routes and
drew a line on a map you would see the route to and from those cities forms an actual triangle. Three
of the nation s 10 largest cities are in the Triangle, including Houston, whose port handles more
foreign tonnage any other port in the United States. Currently, the Texas Triangle is home to just over
19 million people. The clear majority of those 19 million live in Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston,

Assessment And Data Driven Instruction
Assessment: What is it good for? Rationale Assessment and data driven instruction are a vital part of
teaching. Assessments are used frequently to guide the proceeding lessons. I am interested in learning
more about the different types of assessments and the appropriate uses of each. I think it is critical as a
future teacher to have many resources to back up my techniques, especially with the growing interest
in data and tracking students progress. Gathering information about assessments will allow me to
broaden my own techniques and strategies that I use in the classroom, more specifically the ways in
which I grade and provide feedback on assessments so that students can use that feedback in a positive
way. In my past experiences I have noticed my cooperating teachers providing grades on all
assessments with no feedback because they want the students to correct their own mistakes. This may
work on summative assessments but I think that there needs to be comments on formative assessments
so that students know how to correct their mistakes for the end of the unit tests. Literature Review
Introduction Assessment is defined as any practice or task that is used to produce information about
student learning, and is categorized as either formative or summative (Wallace White, 2014). There is
a distinct difference between the various types of assessments, specifically formative and summative.

New cookbook crush! Florentine: The True Cuisine of Florence by Emiko Davies

solitude with chaos. I could feel my creativity flow as I felt captivated by it s loveliness, tantalized by
the aromas of leather, incense, rising dough and those yet to be discovered.

Alcohol and Spiritual Deadlock--John Berryman Essay
Alcohol and Spiritual Deadlock In his introduction to John Berryman s unfinished work Recovery,
about his efforts to recover from alcoholism, Saul Bellows asserts that the act of writing poetry killed
Berryman, and alcohol helped fuel the writing process: Inspiration contained a death threat. He would,
as he wrote the things he waited and prayed for, fall apart, (Recovery xii). During his career as a poet,
he was diseased with alcoholism and suffered from extreme lapses of anxiety. Berryman wrote a
majority of the Dream Songs, his largest and best known collection of 385 poems, while suffering,
sometimes excruciatingly, from alcoholism. Throughout the Dream Songs, the narrators, Henry, Mr.

The Dream Songs, as will be discussed, reveal a dark past, a tortured identity, and alcoholic tendencies
that suppress the poet both spiritually and emotionally. Berryman initiates the Dream Songs with a
tone that well befits an alcoholic or one who is inclined towards self destructive behavior. His narrator,
the anonymous speaker, portrays Henry as pouting and resentful is nonetheless aware that he could
reach a compromise: Huffy Henry hid the day Unappeasable Henry sulked. I see his point, a trying to
put things over. It was the thought that they thought They could do it made Henry wicked away. But
he should have come out and talked. (#1) Henry is immersed in self pity and incapable of being
appeased, content to dwell in his malaise. The structure of the lines and stanzas also heighten the
effect of the sulking. The effect created by the meter in first two lines is analogous to experiencing the
whine of a demanding child (e.g. You can t make me! or I don t wanna! ). The brevity and simplicity
of his convictions also suggest that he is firmly rooted in his sulky disposition and will not easily be
swayed otherwise. However, the speaker sympathizes with Henry and understands his resentment, but
also recognizes that talking about and resolving the matter would be the best, most mature course, but
there is no resolution. Author Lewis Hyde states, in regard to the childish tone:

The Influence Of The Mass Media In The Media
Mass media has a huge influence on communities across America. There are numerous mass media
platforms like the internet, tv, magazines, and radio. Through the use of this platforms, messages are
able to be given to the public at a huge and rapid rate. Information can at times, however, be
misleading. Due to the fact that the media has a huge influence on the views of people, it is often used
as a way to deteriorate the image of a certain group or individual, underrepresenting them in the
entertainment business. In the 1950 s African Americans were underrepresented in the media,
accounting for 6% of tv characters. Their numbers increased to 16% in the 1980 s (Rodriguez 13).
That, however, has not been the case for the Hispanic/ Latino community. The Hispanic / Latino
community are underrepresented in the mass media, being portrayed negatively in their moments in
the media. This research began on November November 7, 2017. Online databases and books were all
acquired through the Augsburg University Library. I looked for peer reviewed sources in order to
make my research as credible as possible. The population interest were Latinos and the media during
after the 1950 s. The process began by reading all sources and identifying the most relevant
information to my topic. As information was gathered, some of the sources that were of little to no use
were taken out of the research. When going through the information gathering while reading, there
was a lot of focus given on the data and its analysis done by the researchers. Once information was
gathered on one source, I would move onto the next. To organize the information gathered, it was
classified by focus. In example, if in two sources news coverage was the topic, they would be grouped
together. Once the information was organized and sorted out, the information was compared and
analysed. Than it would be put into the actual research paper. The research done gives a general
representation of the representation of Latinos on the media. In some states, this would not apply as
they have local Latino tv channels, ran by the community itself. Some of this information was
included in the research itself.
Latinos have always been underrepresented in the

A Comparison Of Abraham Lincoln And Nathan Bedford Forrest
The Civil War was the most divisive moment in American History, and decided the fate of the Union
forever. It created many of the social and political divides and contrasts in culture that are still seen in
today s world. The war was the eruption that had been brewing since the birth of the United States.
Two of the important figures in the Civil War period are Abraham Lincoln and Nathan Bedford
Forrest. Both were influential in their own respective countries and both were seen as great leaders by
their own countries citizens. If the South won the war, Forrest would have been seen as more of a hero
than he is in the world today. Because the Union won the war, though, the more important figure is
Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was also more influential than Nathan Bedford Forrest because
of his honest character, compassion, and determination. Abe Lincoln was able to win people over
because of his understanding of society. He showed attributes that, at the time, were more caring and
loving than most people. For example, in some of his speeches from Illinois, he took a stance against
slavery. He questioned if slavery was morally and constitutionally right, which was a big risk at the
time. This move won over the liberal citizens in America, but greatly alienated the South, especially
when Abe Lincoln won the election of 1860. His determination was another huge factor to him being a
great influence. Even though he started out not taking the War seriously, which causes the Union to
lose some important battles, these losses are a wake up call for Lincoln, which reinvigorates him to
fight back against the South and win the war, saving the Union and freeing the slaves. This ended up
being his greatest strength, and what decides how he is remembered in history forever. While Lincoln
is more remembered in history, on the other side of the coin is Nathan Bedford Forrest. Even though
he was on the losing side, he was still well respected by people on both sides of the war, unlike
Lincoln who was hated by the South. He went down as a great general and a great tactician in the
Civil War. However, unlike Lincoln, his reputation is blown out of proportion and misinformed by
bias. In the South, he was remembered as a

What Is Jerry s Symbolism In Through The Tunnel
JERRY s CHALLENGE Tunnels can be strange for some people, but seeing a tunnel at the bottom of
the ocean is very strange for Jerry. Jerry is on a vacation with his mother and goes out every morning
to the rocks diving and swimming with the older kids throughout the day. Doris lessing describes Jerry
as a kid who challenges himself against a strange looking tunnel in her story Through The Tunnel
through the use of symbolism in the setting, the trip through the tunnel and the wild bay. The safe
beach symbolises Jerry s connection with his mother. It s the only place outside their home they can be
together. Jerry prefers having fun alone without his mother rather than with her. The safe beach also
symbolises a safe place for Jerry because he s with his mother. Of course Jerry, when you have had
enough, come to the big beach (Lessing, 3). This quote explains Jerry not wanting to go to the usual
bach with his mother. The rocks symbolise Jerry s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was frightened. Supposing he turned dizzy in the tunnel? Supposing he died there trapped?
Supposing his head went around?, in the hot sun, he almost gave up (Lessing, 4).. Jerry had asked
himself this questions because he was scared of what might happen if he decides to go through the
tunnel. So, going through the tunnel symbolise Jerry facing his fear. He knew he must find his way
through that cave , or hole, or tunnel out the other side. First he thought he must learn to control his
breathing (Lessing, 4).. This helps describe the kind of challenge Jerry put himself by going through
that tunnel. Jerry s trip through the tunnel symbolise a big challenge young jerry had because he felt
going through the tunnel will make him a good diver and swimmer like the older

My Informative Speech On Parcheesi
For any presentation, keeping the audience engaged is the number one priority. Over the course of the
semester we learned various techniques to engage with the audience and to keep them focused. For
example, asking the audience questions either during or after your presentation can be a good way to
make the audience feel involved. Asking for volunteers is another way to make your audience feel
important. These were some techniques that I liked to use during my presentations. I used both of
these techniques specifically during my informative speech about Parcheesi. One reason that I think
the audience was the most engaged during my informative speech is because it was a new topic for
most of them. A lot of people have not heard of Parcheesi and I think the introduction of a new topic
helped keep the audience engaged. When I would around while giving my informative speech I saw a
lot of active listeners . The textbook defines active listening as Giving undivided attention to a speaker

Your first job in the introduction is to get the attention and interest of the audience. You can do this by
posing a question, telling a story, making a startling statement, or opening with a quotation. The
purpose of all these methods is to create a dramatic, colorful opening that will make your audience
want to hear more (Lucas 65). In my introduction for my informative speech I used a lot of the
techniques that the book discusses. For example I asked questions, like How many of you like to play
board games and Have any of you ever played Parcheesi? (Sullivan 1). Another technique that I used
in my introduction was telling a story. In my introduction I said, Every night before I go back to
school my grandma comes over and my mom, brother, grandma, and I eat spaghetti and then play a
game of Parcheesi (Sullivan 1). I also used a quote in my introduction paragraph for my informative

The Role Of Computing In The 1800 s
Computing in the 1800 s: An era of inventions
We live in an era where technology is all around us. We use technology in our daily lives by using
computers, cell phones, cars, etc. The most productive form of technology though is computers and
like most people might think, computers did not emerge in the late 20th century. It was in the 1800 s
when the most significant forms of computing were built, and as a result the amazing computers we
have today were pioneered. One of the earliest inventions of the 1800 s, was the first electrical
telegraph built by Samuel Soemerring. He was a German physician, anatomist, anthropologist,
paleontologist and most importantly an inventor. He excelled in 5 different fields which prove he was
a true genius capable of multiple things. His mother Johann Thomas Soemmering was a physicist and
that was most likely his main source of motivation. In 1774 he completed his education in Thorn,
Poland and shortly after, he enrolled in University of Gottingen to study medicine. He then became a
professor of anatomy at the Collegium Carolinum in Kassel, which was the start of his teaching career.
He also thought in University of Mainz in 1784. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soemmering made use of early electricity, which was on a rise at the time, to transmit messages.
Though it had two simple looking stands and a tower with discs inside, it was a very complicated
machine and required the analysis of bubbles that were released to correspond with certain letters.
Soemmering used 35 gold wires submerged in water sending messages around two thousand feet
away that could be read by determining how much gas was being released. Water has a high electrical
conductivity and his contraption was based on that. Although it was a primitive invention, it
influenced advancement in telegraph production and

Reproductive Rights Of Women In The United States
The ability for women from all walks of life to have access to affordable and safe healthcare including
abortion is something I m passionate about. It is appalling to me as both a woman and as a citizen of
the United States that women have had their reproductive choices made for them or extremely limited
by legislatures, especially when these decisions seem to come from a place of ignorance. It s been
incredibly disheartening to watch the reproductive rights of women within the United States be
chipped away and restricted over the past decade by state and federal legislatures. The solutions I
would propose lie primarily in education as it is education that combats ignorance and misinformation.
In this particular case, it would be better sex

Is The Self Mutilation Is Characterized By Autoagressive...
Self mutilation is characterized by autoagressive behaviors without intent to die, and is not
uncommonly encountered in clinical practice, with an estimated prevalence of 4.3% in general
psychiatric patients. The highest incidences of self mutilation have been reported in prisoners,
institutionalized teenagers with antisocial traits, and among those diagnosed with autism,
schizophrenia, intellectual disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries [1].
Major self mutilation is a rare, severe manifestation of deliberate self harm that results in perpetual
loss of function or capacity of an organ and constitutes a medical/surgical and psychiatric
emergency[2]. Notably the act of major self mutilation usually is associated with delusions or
hallucinations [3].Auto emasculation, a subtype of major self mutilation, typically manifests in the
context of schizophrenia[4] , and presents a significant management challenge for both
medical/surgical and psychiatric providers, in part because of the lack of clinical guidelines for
pharmacological management.
Here, we describe a patient with schizoaffective disorder who presented with status post auto
emasculation in context of severe psychosis. While penile reattachment was unsuccessful, the patient s
psychotic symptoms responded well to clozapine, a third line antipsychotic medication that has been
demonstrated to be effective for treatment of aggressive behaviors [5]. To our knowledge, we are the
first to report a case of a patient

Essay on Grand Theft Auto IV
A. Introduction
In Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV), you play the role of an Eastern European immigrant who has come
to Liberty City to visit his self proclaimed successful cousin, Roman. After making the journey, Niko
finds that his cousin is actually stuck in a cycle of debt and struggle and has been lying about his large
mansion and beautiful women. After spending some time with Roman, Niko finds that his cousin is
being harassed by local loan sharks. Niko must commit illegal activities for the loan sharks in order to
eradicate Roman s debt. As a result, he must enter the underground world of drugs and violence. Soon
after, Roman discovers that his girlfriend is cheating on him with Niko s boss, Vlad, and is
heartbroken. When Niko ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the game comes to a conclusion, the player is asked to make one more moral decision. Niko has
the option of either working with Dimitri Rascalov, a man who sold him out to a Russian crime lord,
or killing Dimitri. If Niko works with Dimitri, he tries to kill Niko at Roman s wedding, and
accidentally kills Roman. If Niko takes revenge on Dimitri and kills him, Niko s business partner kills
Roman s wife for thwarting his plan. Whichever path the player takes, the game concludes with Niko
killing the man who killed his loved one. Although both endings are very tragic, they are
representative of the huge sacrifices immigrants face and the price they must pay to achieve the
American dream.
B. Elements Perhaps the most important element of the revenge theme is the outcome of the revenge.
In GTA IV, Niko is given many opportunities to take revenge on those who have wronged him. Each
time Niko killed a man who wronged him or his family, he ended up suffering. When Niko killed
Vlad, Niko and Roman were kidnapped and forced to work for their lives. By taking revenge on
Darko, Niko does not actually change anything. He finishes his decade long quest but he is still void
on the inside. If art is created to help people draw parallels to their life and learn a lesson, the entire
purpose of the revenge theme is to demonstrate that getting even does not work as well as it may
seem. The player is shown multiple times that taking revenge does not

The Egyptian Revolution Essay example
A. Background and UN Involvement Almost a year ago, Egypt broke into civil unrest when protesters
flooded Tahrir Square, demanding the end of Hosnia Mubarak s regime. Although Mubarak stepped
down within two weeks, Egypt is worse off today than it was last January. The Supreme Council of
Armed Forces (SCAF), which played a vital role in the January revolution, has now become a violent
and oppressive force. On the twenty ninth of December 2011, the SCAF raided seventeen Egyptian,
German, and US run NGOs in search of proof of illegal foreign funding.1 In a statement
(A/HRC/18/NGO/77) submitted by the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS), the

The Muslim Brotherhood played a major role in the January revolution and has boldly condemned the
SCAF s actions. The US, who has previously opposed the Muslim Brotherhood, has now tried to
develop a friendship with the organization in anticipation of its power over Egypt. The UN has not
taken a very strong stance in any of Egypt s issues, most likely due to the currentness of the topic. The
UN has however supported many other Arab Spring related revolutions by deploying the United
Nations Support Mission In Libya and supporting human rights in Yemen.
B. Policy Germany s stance on Egypt s revolution is peaceful and supportive. Our Foreign Minister
Guido Westerwelle said that he was concerned about violence and wanted all parties to remain
peaceful. Germany highly supports freedom of expression and would like Egypt s government to
quickly adopt and implement freedom of expression laws. Because Egypt is a very important country,
Germany believes that stabilizing it should be of utmost importance. Our Federal Foreign Minister
Westerwelle visited Egypt on 11 February 2011 and on 24 February 2011. Germany s main goal and
purpose towards the situation in Egypt is to ensure fair and uncorrupted democratization.5 Germany

The Physical and Mental Improvements as an Effect of...
Throughout this whole year, there have been many physical as well as mental improvements that have
come as an effect of physical fitness. For myself, I know that mentally I m a stronger and more agile
when it comes to my thoughts. And physically, I can see that my breathing has improved, and my
stamina is longer.
At the beginning of the year, I knew that I wasn t in the best shape of my life. My breathing was heavy
when I ran, and my lap times were, by far, not the greatest. I could see the room for improvement for
it was a long way ahead of me. As the year started, the everyday workouts became the hardest things.
But while the time progressed, so did my body. The stairs were no challenge, and I was able to run up

The training progressed and I saw a real improvement in myself as I could soon do two, then four laps
without much difficulty. While doing housework at home, I noticed that many of my muscles, such as
my quadriceps and calves. Internally, my lungs have a higher capacity, and my breathing has quieted
down. I felt a calm in my mind for the first time while running. Exercising has really helped me clear
out all of my bad thoughts and I focused on the good things in my day. By doing that, my family, and
myself saw a change in my personality. A happier change.
Since I started running, and exercising in general, I have noticed that my waist has slimed down.
Maybe not so much that its noticeable, but there is a change. My actual weighed has been yo yoing ,
as they say, but overall, I have lost a couple pounds. And I m glad. My body composition had balanced
out, or so I think.
Running was not the only working exercise I have experienced in physical education. The Harvard
Step test, along with running the stairs, and on the rare occasion, working out in the weight training
room helped tone specific muscles on my body. The Harvard Step test, which is basically stepping up
on a stair, or something higher than ground level, and stepping down, and then repeating that action
for three minutes. The exercise really have us a workout and it helped shape my quads and calves in
my legs. Running up and down the stairs also helped those specific muscles, but it was also a great

Analysis Of The Joy Luck Club
Whether it is wholesome or tough love, the bond of a mother and daughter can never be broken. The
Joy Luck Club is the epitome of this notion. The anthology contains a series of sixteen vignettes, four
of which belonging to one of each of the four members of The Joy Luck Club. These vignettes cover
the perspectives of mothers who immigrated to America from China, along with the flip side point of
view, taken over by each of their daughters. In the anthology, Tan reflects on her past life and
incorporates it into the book, exploring cultural, relationship, and internal conflicts.
The first chapter of The Joy Luck Club is named after one mother, Suyuan Woo. The reader is
introduced to Jing Mei, her daughter, struggling to replace her mother in her spot at the mahjong table,
as she died two months prior. In 1949, Suyuan Woo and her husband, Canning, left for America in
effort for a better life two years before the birth of Jing Mei. There, she joined a Chinese baptist
church where she met the other core members of The (rendition of) Joy Luck Club: the Hsus, the
Jongs, and the St. Clairs. Suyuan and Jing Mei Woo, despite how well they get along, run into many
conflicts, mostly regarding their differences in culture. Suyuan grew up in China, where she had gone
through several complications and dire situations, which as a result forced her to succumb to extreme
sacrifices one of which being the abandonment of her own twins. On the other hand, Jing Mei was
born in America,

  • 2. What Was The Rationale At Common Law For Making Burglary... Short Response Q.1. What was the rationale at common law for making burglary and arson felonies? Both burglary and arson have the word dwelling in their statutes. Under common law, a dwelling referred to a person s home (and under common law, the crime of burglary had to materialize after dark, when people are more likely to be home). These types of crimes are aggravated when there are people present in the dwelling at the time of the crime. Thus, the rationale at common law for both of these crimes to be treated as felonies was to protect an innocent person at home. Q.2. What is the difference between the crimes of robbery and extortion? Both robbery and extortion are theft crimes that use force or threats of force/coercion. Both of the crimes also require the specific intent to permanently deprive the owner of property. However, they differ in a number of ways. In the case of robbery, there must be immediate threat of harm whereas extortion requires threat of future harm. Therefore, in robberies, the compliance must also be immediate and in the case of extortion, victims may need to comply at some point in the future. In robberies, physical harm is used to deprive the victim of property. In extortion, the harm may be physical, economic, or it can be the exposure of a secret. Because physical harm is the preferred method of choice in robberies, the crime occurs in person rather than through mail or over the phone like in the case of extortion. Q.4. List and ... • 3. Informative Essay On The King Cake Brynn Hardie 30 January, 2017 Mrs. Heidi Baccigalopi HISTORY Today I will be talking about the history of King Cakes and Mardi Gras. The King Cake is a brioche style cake traditionally made throughout the State of Louisiana during the weeks prior to Mardi Gras. The King Cake tradition is thought to have been brought to New Orleans from France in 1870. The celebration of Mardi Gras came to North America from France where it had been celebrated since the Middle Ages. It s decorated in royal colors of PURPLE which signifies justice , GREEN for Faith , and GOLD for power . Today in New Orleans, the king cake is an oval shaped braided cake similar to a coffee cake which has cinnamon within the braids ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1871, the tradition of choosing Queen of Mardi Gras was determined by who drew the prize within the cake. Today, such a find is still deemed to be a sign of good luck and it customary for the person who discovers the hidden plastic baby to host the next party. In the past such things as coins, beans, pecans, or peas were also hidden in each King Cake. In the early 19th century, the public celebration of Mardi Gras consisted mainly of maskers on foot, in carriages and on horseback. In 1837, a costumed group of revealers walked in the first documented parade , but the violent behavior of maskers during the next two decades caused the press to call for an end to Mardi Gras. Fortunately, six New Orleanains who were former members of the Cowbellions, a group that presented New Years Eve parades in Mobile, AL, saved the New Orleans Mardi Gras by forming the Comus organization in 1857. The men beautified the celebration and proved that it could be enjoyed in a safe manner. Comus coined the word Krewe and established several Mardi Gras traditions by forming a secret ... Billions of coins and bills are used every day in the U.S and the production of this system of money is generating risks to the environment. The coin and the bill have different attributions to the environment, the cycle to produce a single coin/bill requires various materials and processes. The one dollar metal coin is greener than a one dollar paper bill, the dollar coin is fitter for the economy and the environment as the coin has several advantages over the dollar bill. • 7. Value Analysis Of Boeing Boeing 787 Dreamliner Boeing is a global company that designs, manufactures, and sells airplanes. It is amongst the largest aerospace companies that manufacturers commercial jetliners and is second largest defense contractor. Boeing is also a leader manufacturer in space and security systems. Boeing began in Seattle, WA in 1910 and now their headquarters are in Chicago, IL and is the largest exporter in the United States. The Boeing Company adopted the radical change approach because they were trying to accelerate development time and reduce overall costs. Boeing actively embraced outsourcing to their supply chain that involved over 40 suppliers in about 100 different locations around the world. According to Forbes Magazine, The approach was intended to reduce the 787 s development time from six to four years and development cost from $10 to $6 billion. In the 1990 s the company Airbus started stealing market share from Boeing. Boeing responded by innovating their products using value analysis. According to Professor Todd s chapter four slide 12, value analysis is the examination of the function of parts and materials to reduce the cost and/or improve the performance of a product. Boeing has traditionally used aluminum for their airplanes, but changed their 787 to carbon fiber, aluminum, and titanium. The European s lead and contents in mass media are causing and maintaining the European domination in China. Based on what we discussed about the media topic in class, I believe media is also a way to cause and maintain the European domination in societies. For instance, the content of media usually reports the positive sides of the European things such as places, enviroment, and behaves instead of the negative sides. More clearly, the mass media constantly extols the Europeans among Asians. Therefore, this brainwashing praises from media improves the social status of Europeans in different places, especially in Asian places. 3. The modern policies from goverments are also causing and maintaining the European domination in societies. It just likes what we had disccussed in class that the US government provides poor education s policies to the Asians. School Counselor Reflection As a future school counselor, I can reflect that these past eight weeks, I have a full understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a school counselor in a traditional high school. Practicum 2 has been learning experiences that I will remember as I start my new profession. I believe that being exposed and actively involved with a group of school counselors brought a wide range of knowledge that I plan to utilize in the future. As a continuum from my Practicum 1, the following CACREP standards are mentioned below. Counseling Helping Relationships Serving students with different backgrounds, personalities, or beliefs may not be the easiest thing to do, as their thought process may differ. Therefore, it is essential for school counselors to find healthy ways to build on a school counselor student relationship. There are several characteristics or behaviors that I feel school counselors should have, that helps them maintain a relationship with their students. Students can be more willing to open up their thoughts or accept suggestions when the school counselor is a good listener. A lot of the times, we can think that we have to do all the talking, but is necessary to step back and listen at the students first. Also, school counselors must be friendly and easy to approach. • 12. Symptoms And Treatment Of Psoriasis The term comorbidity refers to the association of two distinct diseases in the same individual at a rate higher than expected by chance (Bonavita and De Simone, 2008). Although psoriasis has been previously thought to be a disease solely affecting primarily the skin and the joints, our understanding of the comorbidities that may be associated with this disease has grown significantly. Recent evidence has even suggested an increased over all risk of mortality in patients with severe psoriasis (Gelfand JM et al., 2007). (2008), supported previous reports of an association between psoriasis and diabetes mellitus. The age adjusted proportion of diabetes was found to be significantly higher in psoriasis patients as compared to the control group. A possible explanation for the association between psoriasis and diabetes is the presence of chronic inflammation that occurs due to secretion of TNF a and other proinflammatory cytokines such as IL 1 and IL 6, which precipitate both psoriasis and diabetes. 2) Non Alcoholic Fat Liver Disease (NAFLD) Prevalence of NAFLD in patients with psoriasis ran¬ges from 17 60% and is even greater in patients with severe psoriasis and PsA ( Miele et al., 2009) .Similarly, Gisondi et al. speculated that NAFLD may contribute to the seve rity of psoriasis through the release of inflammatory mediators from the liver, including reactive oxygen species, CRP and IL 6, which also act as mediators of atherogenesis (Gisondi et al., 2009),Moreover, patients with psoriasis and NAFLD have higher risk of developing non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhosis than patients with NAFLD without psoriasis (Wenk et al., 2009). At least in part, progres¬sion of NAFLD to NASH is associated with an increa¬se in the TNFa/adiponectin ratio. • 17. Assessment And Data Driven Instruction Assessment: What is it good for? Rationale Assessment and data driven instruction are a vital part of teaching. Assessments are used frequently to guide the proceeding lessons. I am interested in learning more about the different types of assessments and the appropriate uses of each. I think it is critical as a future teacher to have many resources to back up my techniques, especially with the growing interest in data and tracking students progress. Gathering information about assessments will allow me to broaden my own techniques and strategies that I use in the classroom, more specifically the ways in which I grade and provide feedback on assessments so that students can use that feedback in a positive way. In my past experiences I have noticed my cooperating teachers providing grades on all assessments with no feedback because they want the students to correct their own mistakes. This may work on summative assessments but I think that there needs to be comments on formative assessments so that students know how to correct their mistakes for the end of the unit tests. Literature Review Introduction Assessment is defined as any practice or task that is used to produce information about student learning, and is categorized as either formative or summative (Wallace White, 2014). There is a distinct difference between the various types of assessments, specifically formative and summative. Formative assessments are informal quizzes that are used to guide instruction ... Florentine: The True Cuisine of Florence by Emiko Davies Beautiful pages brimming with life and history that weave around traditional recipes filled with the aromas of Florence. A true cover to cover read, exactly the kind of cookbook that I eat up! The marbleized cover that spills onto the pages is simply lovely and gives me a wistful affection for both my second grade art class and the marble that graces the layers of Florence s architecture. I remember my first brush with Florence, that precise moment when I planted my foot down and a sudden awareness of belonging or mores so, a sensation of never wanting to leave in case I were to miss something rushed over me. There was a sense of excitement, and familiarity, story s told and untold. I stood in this fascinating place and felt the warmth of its embrace soak into me, as history and charm dripped from its depths. I felt it was the kind of place where coziness met with grandeur and solitude with chaos. I could feel my creativity flow as I felt captivated by it s loveliness, tantalized by the aromas of leather, incense, rising dough and those yet to be discovered. • 19. Alcohol and Spiritual Deadlock--John Berryman Essay Alcohol and Spiritual Deadlock In his introduction to John Berryman s unfinished work Recovery, about his efforts to recover from alcoholism, Saul Bellows asserts that the act of writing poetry killed Berryman, and alcohol helped fuel the writing process: Inspiration contained a death threat. He would, as he wrote the things he waited and prayed for, fall apart, (Recovery xii). During his career as a poet, he was diseased with alcoholism and suffered from extreme lapses of anxiety. Berryman wrote a majority of the Dream Songs, his largest and best known collection of 385 poems, while suffering, sometimes excruciatingly, from alcoholism. Throughout the Dream Songs, the narrators, Henry, Mr. Bones, and sometimes an anonymous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Dream Songs, as will be discussed, reveal a dark past, a tortured identity, and alcoholic tendencies that suppress the poet both spiritually and emotionally. Berryman initiates the Dream Songs with a tone that well befits an alcoholic or one who is inclined towards self destructive behavior. His narrator, the anonymous speaker, portrays Henry as pouting and resentful is nonetheless aware that he could reach a compromise: Huffy Henry hid the day Unappeasable Henry sulked. I see his point, a trying to put things over. It was the thought that they thought They could do it made Henry wicked away. But he should have come out and talked. (#1) Henry is immersed in self pity and incapable of being appeased, content to dwell in his malaise. The structure of the lines and stanzas also heighten the effect of the sulking. The effect created by the meter in first two lines is analogous to experiencing the whine of a demanding child (e.g. You can t make me! or I don t wanna! ). The brevity and simplicity of his convictions also suggest that he is firmly rooted in his sulky disposition and will not easily be swayed otherwise. However, the speaker sympathizes with Henry and understands his resentment, but also recognizes that talking about and resolving the matter would be the best, most mature course, but there is no resolution. • 20. The Influence Of The Mass Media In The Media Mass media has a huge influence on communities across America. There are numerous mass media platforms like the internet, tv, magazines, and radio. Through the use of this platforms, messages are able to be given to the public at a huge and rapid rate. Information can at times, however, be misleading. Due to the fact that the media has a huge influence on the views of people, it is often used as a way to deteriorate the image of a certain group or individual, underrepresenting them in the entertainment business. In the 1950 s African Americans were underrepresented in the media, accounting for 6% of tv characters. Their numbers increased to 16% in the 1980 s (Rodriguez 13). That, however, has not been the case for the Hispanic/ Latino community. The Hispanic / Latino community are underrepresented in the mass media, being portrayed negatively in their moments in the media. This research began on November November 7, 2017. Online databases and books were all acquired through the Augsburg University Library. I looked for peer reviewed sources in order to make my research as credible as possible. The population interest were Latinos and the media during after the 1950 s. The process began by reading all sources and identifying the most relevant information to my topic. As information was gathered, some of the sources that were of little to no use were taken out of the research. When going through the information gathering while reading, there was a lot of focus given on the data and its analysis done by the researchers. Once information was gathered on one source, I would move onto the next. To organize the information gathered, it was classified by focus. In example, if in two sources news coverage was the topic, they would be grouped together. Once the information was organized and sorted out, the information was compared and analysed. Than it would be put into the actual research paper. The research done gives a general representation of the representation of Latinos on the media. In some states, this would not apply as they have local Latino tv channels, ran by the community itself. Some of this information was included in the research itself. • 22. A Comparison Of Abraham Lincoln And Nathan Bedford Forrest The Civil War was the most divisive moment in American History, and decided the fate of the Union forever. It created many of the social and political divides and contrasts in culture that are still seen in today s world. The war was the eruption that had been brewing since the birth of the United States. Two of the important figures in the Civil War period are Abraham Lincoln and Nathan Bedford Forrest. Both were influential in their own respective countries and both were seen as great leaders by their own countries citizens. If the South won the war, Forrest would have been seen as more of a hero than he is in the world today. Because the Union won the war, though, the more important figure is Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was also more influential than Nathan Bedford Forrest because of his honest character, compassion, and determination. Abe Lincoln was able to win people over because of his understanding of society. He showed attributes that, at the time, were more caring and loving than most people. For example, in some of his speeches from Illinois, he took a stance against slavery. He questioned if slavery was morally and constitutionally right, which was a big risk at the time. This move won over the liberal citizens in America, but greatly alienated the South, especially when Abe Lincoln won the election of 1860. His determination was another huge factor to him being a great influence. Even though he started out not taking the War seriously, which causes the Union to lose some important battles, these losses are a wake up call for Lincoln, which reinvigorates him to fight back against the South and win the war, saving the Union and freeing the slaves. This ended up being his greatest strength, and what decides how he is remembered in history forever. While Lincoln is more remembered in history, on the other side of the coin is Nathan Bedford Forrest. Even though he was on the losing side, he was still well respected by people on both sides of the war, unlike Lincoln who was hated by the South. He went down as a great general and a great tactician in the Civil War. However, unlike Lincoln, his reputation is blown out of proportion and misinformed by bias. Jerry is on a vacation with his mother and goes out every morning to the rocks diving and swimming with the older kids throughout the day. Doris lessing describes Jerry as a kid who challenges himself against a strange looking tunnel in her story Through The Tunnel through the use of symbolism in the setting, the trip through the tunnel and the wild bay. The safe beach symbolises Jerry s connection with his mother. It s the only place outside their home they can be together. Jerry prefers having fun alone without his mother rather than with her. The safe beach also symbolises a safe place for Jerry because he s with his mother. Of course Jerry, when you have had enough, come to the big beach (Lessing, 3). Over the course of the semester we learned various techniques to engage with the audience and to keep them focused. For example, asking the audience questions either during or after your presentation can be a good way to make the audience feel involved. Asking for volunteers is another way to make your audience feel important. These were some techniques that I liked to use during my presentations. I used both of these techniques specifically during my informative speech about Parcheesi. One reason that I think the audience was the most engaged during my informative speech is because it was a new topic for most of them. We use technology in our daily lives by using computers, cell phones, cars, etc. The most productive form of technology though is computers and like most people might think, computers did not emerge in the late 20th century. It was in the 1800 s when the most significant forms of computing were built, and as a result the amazing computers we have today were pioneered. One of the earliest inventions of the 1800 s, was the first electrical telegraph built by Samuel Soemerring. He was a German physician, anatomist, anthropologist, paleontologist and most importantly an inventor. He excelled in 5 different fields which prove he was a true genius capable of multiple things. His mother Johann Thomas Soemmering was a physicist and that was most likely his main source of motivation. In 1774 he completed his education in Thorn, Poland and shortly after, he enrolled in University of Gottingen to study medicine. He then became a professor of anatomy at the Collegium Carolinum in Kassel, which was the start of his teaching career. He also thought in University of Mainz in 1784. ... Self mutilation is characterized by autoagressive behaviors without intent to die, and is not uncommonly encountered in clinical practice, with an estimated prevalence of 4.3% in general psychiatric patients. The highest incidences of self mutilation have been reported in prisoners, institutionalized teenagers with antisocial traits, and among those diagnosed with autism, schizophrenia, intellectual disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries [1]. Major self mutilation is a rare, severe manifestation of deliberate self harm that results in perpetual loss of function or capacity of an organ and constitutes a medical/surgical and psychiatric emergency[2]. Notably the act of major self mutilation usually is associated with delusions or hallucinations [3].Auto emasculation, a subtype of major self mutilation, typically manifests in the context of schizophrenia[4] , and presents a significant management challenge for both medical/surgical and psychiatric providers, in part because of the lack of clinical guidelines for pharmacological management. Here, we describe a patient with schizoaffective disorder who presented with status post auto emasculation in context of severe psychosis. While penile reattachment was unsuccessful, the patient s psychotic symptoms responded well to clozapine, a third line antipsychotic medication that has been demonstrated to be effective for treatment of aggressive behaviors [5].
