The Tsunami Of The Earthquake
The Tsunami March 11, 2011 was a day that impacted many lives. Little did anyone know that thirty
seven miles off the east coast of Japan a disaster was brewing. Tension on the Circum Pacific Belt was
released. When this tension released the Pacific Plate was thrusted 5 8 meters above its previous
location(book). This thrust upward displaces water, which will cause a tsunami. A tsunami is large
ocean wave that are set in motion be a major undersea earthquake(book). The upward movement of
the Pacific tectonic was the earthquake. Japan is located on the Circum Pacific Belt. This is the edge
of the Pacific Plate that encompasses many coastal regions, and holds many areas of a lot of tectonic
plate movement(Book). The Earthquake that caused the tsunami in Japan was a level 9 magnitude.
Earthquakes of magnitudes of 8 or great would have to be a tension snap that occurs along a segment
that is around 600 miles in length(Book). This is an extraordinary length. This is about the distance
from Dayton Ohio to New York, New York. Can you Imagine a piece of land that massive shifting
upwards as much as the Pacific Plate did? The tsunami in Japan was a wave of about 40 meters high.
Since the earthquake happened 37 miles off of the coast of Japan(Book), there was plenty of time for
the wall of water to build. When the earthquake occurred there was a retreat of all of the water on the
coast. It appeared that the water had been sucked away, but in reality it hadn t, it was gathering

Analyzing The Video Clip ( S ) Essay
1. Which lesson or lessons are shown in the video clip(s)? Identify the lesson(s) by lesson plan
number.
[ EdTPA Lesson plans 1 and 2 are shown in the video clips.]
2. Promoting a Positive Learning Environment
Refer to scenes in the video clip(s) where you provided a safe, respectful, and organized learning
environment.
a. Describe how you provided a positive, low risk emotionally and physically safe environment.
[ I promote a positive, low risk and emotionally and physically safe environment in many ways. The
students know the classroom daily expectations, the schools rules, and my personal rules that I have
added sense teaching their class, which in some ways differ from my cooperating teachers rules. I do
not allow students to chew gum during class and the students are not to climb the bleachers to get
equipment that has been thrown up their. I expect students to use appropriate language and treat others
how they would like to be treated. When a student feels he or she was emotionally or physically hurt
they come and report it to me. I then talk to the student(s) invoiced and help them sort it out. During
the soccer lessons, in my expiation of the stations as well as on some of my station cue cards it has
warnings about potential dangerous situation that may occur, such as flaying soccer balls, trip over
cones, crashing into someone who is running. I found with these warning verbally being said and
written down the environment stayed organized and safe. ]

Fashion Is A Fashion For Last 75years
Fashion is a manner and style especially clothes, shoes, makeup and hairstyle. When I came from my
home country, I have not much knowledge about fashion, and even do not know more about fashion
brand. I was learning from technology, school and start follows American fashion. In eighteen century,
people were also very fashionable as we are mostly seeing in the old films and pictures. The fashion
was started from Europe and England because on that time Kings and Queens were fashionable and
spends money on luxury items. The Queen Elizabeth has famous because of fashion and style, because
she is wearing bright dresses, necklace etc. The brands we are use now a day s also established in
many years back like Coach is in the fashion for last 75years. Now a day s fashion is change every
spring, summer and fall because people are more creative to do something different. Social media is
the main source to develop the latest fashion between new generations. People are follows facebook,
twitter, instagram because celebrities, models, and companies share their fashion with public. In the
twenty century people have jobs and money that s why they start spending on technology, and fashion,
on the other side there are competition in the fashion industry so it s difficult to compete it.
Women and Men both were fashionable from the thirties but women were more fashionable as
compare to men. Women s fashion during the early to mid thirties reflected the American culture and

Criticism And Imagery In Richard III, By William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare s Richard III is an historical tragedy written in 1591. The play covers events in
the latter years of the War of the Roses (1455 1485). That war a prolonged, intermittent conflict
between the two noble houses of York and Lancaster; the play chronicles the bloody deeds and
atrocities perpetrated by its central figure the murderous and tyrannical King Richard III. After a long
war between the noble houses of York and Lancaster, England is at peace under the ruling of King
Edward IV and the victorious family of York. But Edwards s younger brother, Richard Duke of
Gloucester resents Edwards s power and the happiness of those around him. Malicious, power hungry
and his bitterness towards his physical deformity (hunch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this metaphor, he compares conscience with a creature with many tongues. That his tongue has a
different conscience but everything condemns himself. No one believes what Richard III says
anymore, and even himself. The last imagery is, True hope is swift, and flies with swallow s wings.
(Act 5 Scene 2) Richmond compares hope to a bird. Hope with good cause is swift; it flies as fast as a
swallow. Hope that their hope would fly fast as like a swallow and it will come true. And it did come
true. Richmond killed Richard III and became the king. Richard III opens in 1483 with the title
character delivering one of Shakespeare s most famous soliloquies. The first thirteen lines establish
the cheerful, optimistic mood in the kingdom now that Richard s brother, Edward IV, has reclaimed
the throne and the War of the Roses, which began in 1455, appears to have ended. Richard sums up
the situation in the first two lines of the

Nuclear Power Plant Safety Systems
Topic 1 Nuclear Power Plant Safety Systems IAEA Synopsis: In 1956, 81 member nations
unanimously approved The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Statute, the guiding
document for the creation of this committee. The objective of the statue stated that the Agency shall
seek to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health and prosperity
throughout the world. It shall ensure, so far as it is able, that assistance provided by it or at its request
or under its supervision or control is not used in such a way as to further any military purpose. As
such, the IAEA was established in 1957 to respond to global fears about the potential dangers of
nuclear energy. Since its creation, the IAEA has responded to a wide variety of issues related to atomic
energy. At the time of its creation, the primary fear was that nuclear power could be an avenue to
create and use nuclear weapons. Indeed, this is still a concern today. Of late, the IAEA has focused on
ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants. Various safety system failures in nuclear power plants
calls for the revision of the current safety standards and approaches for maintain the safety of nuclear
power sources. One such event that caused this shift in focus was the Fukushima accident in 2011.

Religion In Fight Club
Fight Club is a movie based on the book of the same name written by Chuck Palahniuk. It was
released in 1999 as a film directed by David Fincher. The film, when first shown in theaters, did
poorly falling well short of what 20th Century Fox s expectations were. The major problem that the
film had was its negativity toward women with such lines as, we are a generation of men raised by
women , as well as its portrayal of the film s leading female character Marla Singer who is seemingly
the root of all the nameless main character s problems. By contrast in the movie are told to take back
their masculinity and fight. After the film s release to home video, a cult following quickly grew. A
concern that sprouted from the film was that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many circles of Buddhism, they do not see themselves as religious but instead a philosophy with no
belief in a god or high power. Rather a higher understanding called nirvana. The Buddhist tradition of
nirvana is described as the extinguishing of the fires that cause suffering. These fires are typically
identified as the fires of attachment, aversion, and ignorance. Once again in this belief we see the idea
of letting go and becoming more aware about the self. There are many types of enlightenment in
Buddhism but the most prevalent is nirvana and the release from rebirth cycles. Where there is
nothing; where naught is grasped, there is the Isle of No Beyond. Nirvana do I call it the utter
extinction of aging and dying. There is that dimension where there is neither earth, nor water, nor fire,
nor wind; neither dimension of the infinitude of space, nor dimension of the infinitude of
consciousness, nor dimension of nothingness, nor dimension of neither perception nor non perception;
neither this world, nor the next world, nor sun, nor moon. And there, I say, there is neither coming, nor
going, nor stasis; neither passing away nor arising: without stance, without foundation, without
support. This, just this, is the end of stress. (Sakya 48) So what does any of this have to do with the
story in Fight Club? In the beginning of the story our nameless protagonist is suffering from insomnia.

The Progression of Streptococcus suis Meningitis Essay
There are three types of pathogens that cause meningitis. The first type of pathogen is Haemophilus
influenzae type b. It is an aerobic gram negative bacteria, meaning they have relatively thin cell walls
and can be resistant to antibiotic treatment. In 95% of invasive diseases are caused by type b. Before
the introduction of a vaccine, it was the leading cause of bacterial meningitis most common in infants.
The organism colonizes in the nasopharynx (the upper part of the throat behind the nose) and can
sometimes invade the bloodstream and cause infection at a distant site.

Igor Stravinsky Rite Of Spring
A critique of The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky and Folding by Shen Wei On November 22th, I
enjoyed the Rite of Spring and Folding at Centennial Hall in U of A. Both of them shocked me by
their unique way of performances. From the very beginning, The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky
strengthens in a volatile sense of harmonious movements. The Rite of Spring is quite different from
classical ballets whose subtle interchange of the curvaceous, subjective lithesome in the flow of time
that romanticism savored. In this particular dance which was carefully planned by Igor Stravinsky,
Stravinsky s rhythms hit and batter; although highly asymmetric they are still pounded in such a new
way that the score requires innovation in harmonious representation to make Stravinsky s invention
workable. In this dance, there is no way are these rhythms presented subtly, in fact, they are habitually
stricken out in harmony by the huge orchestra that the work uses. Undeniably, one of the most
enjoyable facets of a noble performance, even without dance convention, is the way that it looks.
Their grey outfit and sporadic black tops make them a perfect blend. ... Show more content on

It was as if there was nobody and only the ghost like dancers onstage accompanied by irregular music
terrified me. So as to concentrate on the listener s discernment on the rhythm, musical material,
Stravinsky at times reduces to tiny repetitive configurations of a simple two or three pitch. In tandem
with this rectilinear plainness, The Rite of Spring s gargantuan crunching synchronizations move at
the stride of glaciers, this gradual harmonic movement puzzlingly magnifying the general sense of
drive and energy. These structures of sound, although distressingly dissonant for an audience in 1913,
are selected with perfect modification, and they reinforce Stravinsky s complete arc with a structural
indemnity on a practically Beethovenian

Modern American Liberalism Research Paper
According to Roskin s text, ideology is a belief system that society can be improved by following
certain doctrines . In politics, ideology cements together movements, parties, and revolutionary
groups. It s a way of explaining reality, of searching for certainty or what some would call truth it
allows us to draw conclusions upon which we can take action. While particular ideologies may rise or
fall, ideological forms of politics seem to be an enduring feature of world history. The textbook
contends that in line with Adam Smith s thinking, classic liberalism expelled government from the
marketplace; modern liberalism brought it back in, this time to protect people from sometimes unfair
economic system. I will begin by stating that from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It could be claimed that it is not just an ideology but is the ideology for all mankind, a fundamental
truth that is not culturally specific to the West but is of global value. Modern American liberals value
institutions that defend against economic inequality. Modern American liberalism is typically
associated with the Democratic party, as modern American conservatism is typically associated with
the Republican party. Liberals typically accept scientific ideas that some conservatives reject, such as
evolution and global warming. While both types of liberals will be strong on ending the police state
and ensuring due process, the biggest differences arise in economic matters. Classic liberals favor low
or no tariffs, reduced regulatory burdens, even taxation with a low tax burden, and thus reduced
government expenditures and small government overall. Modern liberals favor a highly progressive
tax system, high taxes to break up large aggregations of wealth at the upper strata, many regulations
on businesses, high minimum wage laws, and barriers to free international trade. Modern liberalism is
not completely collectivist; nor is it completely individualistic. It has elements of both doctrines. The
same is true of conservatism. Neither view provides a coherent approach to politics, built up from first
principles. Whereas conservatism and liberalism are both outgrowths of classical liberal thought, they
differ in what they accept and reject of their intellectual roots (Goodman). Conservatism tends to
accept the classical liberal commitment to economic liberty but rejects many of its applications to the
noneconomic realm. Liberalism accepts the classical liberal commitment to civil liberties but largely
rejects the idea of economic

Slavery in Latin America
Chile
History
Before the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th cent., the Araucanians had long been in control of the land
in the southern part of the region; in the north, the inhabitants were ruled by the Inca empire. Diego de
Almagro, who was sent by Francisco Pizarro from Peru to explore the southern region, led a party of
men through the Andes into the central lowlands of Chile but was unsuccessful (1536) in establishing
a foothold there. In 1540, Pedro de Valdivia marched into Chile and, despite stout resistance from the
Araucanians, founded Santiago (1541) and later established La Serena, Concepción, and Valdivia.

The colonial aristocracy and the clergy had been discredited because of royalist leanings. The army,
plus a few intellectuals, established a government devoid of democratic forms. Yet with the centralistic
constitution of 1833, fashioned largely by Diego Portales on Chile s particular needs, a foundation was
laid for the gradual emergence of parliamentary government and a long period of stability.
During the administrations of Manuel Bulnes (1841 51) and Manuel Montt (1851 61) the country
experienced governmental reform and material progress. The war of 1866 between Peru and Spain
involved Chile and led the republic to fortify its coast and build a navy. Chileans obtained the right to
work the nitrate fields in the Atacama, which then belonged to Bolivia. Trouble over the concessions
led in 1879 to open war (see Pacific, War of the). Chile was the victor and added valuable territories
taken from Bolivia and Peru; a long standing quarrel also ensued, the Tacna Arica Controversy, which
was finally settled in 1929. Chile also became involved in serious border troubles with Argentina; it
was as a sign and symbol of the end of this trouble that the Christ of the Andes was dedicated in 1904.
With the exploitation of nitrate and copper by foreign interests, chiefly the United States, prosperity
continued.

What Is The Tone In King Lear
King Lear asks his daughters which of them loves him the most. Cordelia expresses honestly to him
her answer. She tells him that she loves him, and respects him. She appreciates his fatherly efforts to
take care of them. Nevertheless she knows his game of trying to boost his ego, so she vocalizes that
her love for him will never be with her whole heart. She is soon to be married so half her heart
belongs to her new husband. The rest is for caring for her family which includes her sisters, and her
father. This passage shows that she is honest and does not reduce herself for pleasing her father. As
she speaks to her father she keeps a calm and collected attitude. She speaks to him respectfully.
Throughout the passage the author uses abstract diction to express the emotions cordelia feels.
This passage is significant to the play because it sets up the events following. After she refuses to
enlarge her father s self esteem,he tells her to leave. She no longer stays with her father or have
contact with him. This also opens king Lear s eyes to the truth. He learns that his daughter that he left
actually loves him and tells him the truth. While the daughters that told him that they love him with
everything they have, they are the ones that betray him, and cause the ... Show more content on

The truth that comes later helps King Lear know who is loyal to him or not. It also brings light into the
darkness of all the people who are creating conflicts in the play. The passage invites more questions of
reality. The logic people give may be deceiving. The people give convincing evidence but they can all
end with heartbreaking truth. King Lear has a major character development. He is egotistical and likes
the feeling of praise and power. After he lets go of his favorite and genuine daughter, he advances in a
long journey of pain and suffering. He learns that reality is what let go a long time ago. He leans not to

Amanda Knox Summary
AMANDA KNOX: AN EXAMINATION OF JUSTICE COMPARING
U.S. VS. THE ITALIAN STRUCTURE OF THE COURTS SYSTEMS, AND THE USE OF
EVIDENCE FOR CONVICTION
November 2, 2007, was a very sad day due to the murder of Meredith Kercher. This is the day
Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito lives were forever changed. This murder took place in Italy and
through this case the Criminal and Justice Systems were found to be very different from country to
country. This case specifically brought light how the United States and Italy are different when it
comes to finding justice for committing a murder. These differences consist of an examination of
justice, structure of the court systems and the use of evidence for conviction.
The Italian Justice System is an inquisitorial system (Huziker, 2016). In an inquisitorial system, the
court is involved in the investigation (Huziker, 2016). The judge and the prosecutor work together in
investigating the case (Huziker, 2016). This is interesting because, the judge also decides whether the
accused is innocent or guilty (Huziker, 2016). Before the trial starts and due to the inquisitorial system
used, the judge has a preconceived notion as to which way they want to favor (Huziker, 2016). The
Italian court is set up with three judges and six lay assessors of facts (Krings, 2015). There is no oath
taken for the defendant when they take the stand (Huziker, 2016). When it comes to the Amanda Knox
case, the main topic was on innocents or guilty (Linth, 2013).

father to death with a hammer, smashing his skull in with every blow. His mother then decided to cut

Fisk kept of his fathers were his cufflinks, which he wore to remind him of his father s true nature.

Gay And Lesbian, Gay, And Homosexual Marriages
Recent estimates suggest that between 2.0 and 3.7 million children are being raised by lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender adults in the United States, according to the 2013 National Health Interview
Survey and Gallup Poll data (Gates, 2014). The battle of equal right in many aspects for gay and
lesbian couples have been going on for years, and although significant progress has been made, there
are many aspects within their relationships that are not yet equal to heterosexual couples in similar
situations. Gay and lesbian couples have to deal with daily discrimination within issues such as
marriage, legal issues, medical issues, and mamy forms for homophobia. Adoption has been a big
question and fight for gay and lesbian couples for many years, one that is still being found today.
Questions of whether or not a gay or lesbian couple can properly raise a healthy child, if the child s
psychological development would be compromised, any many other arguments have been proposed in
disapproval of adoption for these couples. Adoption is a tedious process for a heterosexual married
couple and the challenges and hoops needed to be jumped through to finalize the process can be even
more difficult for homosexual couples and single gay or lesbian individuals. Gay and lesbian couples
have faced many challenges through the course of time, and adoption is just another part of that
challenge. Just as it is legal for men and women of the same sex to marry, so is adopting a child.
However, there is great prejudice over the issue and the power of opinion often stunts, and sometimes
terminates, the couples process and success of being able to adopt a child of their own all because of
the judges, biological parents, or spectators personal opinions. In 2004 the American Psychological
Association declared the no difference theory that states, no scientific evidence that parenting
effectiveness is related to parental sexual orientation: lesbian and gay parents are as likely as
heterosexual parents to provide supportive and healthy environments for their children, . Certain
studies show a difference in childhood development between children of same sex marriage and
biological parents, but none that deem gay or

The Cumulative Prognosis Time Distribution For The...
The cumulative prognosis time distribution for the selected signaling pathways are shown in Fig. 4.
The later activation of the IL 10 pathway in the symptomatic subjects can be explained by the anti
inflammatory nature of IL 10 and.... Similarly, the fact that the DNA sensing pathway is quick to
become anomalous is likely due to the initial detection of viral ssRNA by RIG I (Pichlmair, et al.,
2006). In fig. 5, we show further evidence of the pathway cascade, i.e., the fraction of the subjects that
have k pathways out of 403 that are in alarm at a given time averaged over all symptomatic subjects.
This graph suggests that the pathway cascade could permit a potentially very early diagnosis of
influenza. For example, these results suggest that at least 25% of patients that become symptomatic
could be identified in the first 16 hours of infection using a five alarm pathway. Discussion of pathway
results The most likely pathway to go into alarm first in our experiment, based on the MSET results,
was the cytosolic DNA sensing pathway. It was the first pathway to alarm in the cascade over 70% of
the time. Influenza A does not generate dsDNA, but negative sense ssRNA (Pichlmair, et al., 2006).
The cytosolic DNA sensing pathway is known to detect foreign dsDNA in the cell and upon detection
of this exogenous DNA, production and maturation of cytokines and interferons initiates an immune

Lord Byron Tone
The poem Darkness by Lord Byron (George Gordon) talks about how the world is going to shut down
and the struggles they go through. The author talks about nature, social, and of course supernatural
elements. This poem was written during the Romanism period. He starts off with a dream about the
world shutting off. It s reality but it is actually a dream, more like a vision. The author swift s through
the ways they are struggling and how they are hoping for light to restore. The author s depressing tone
overshadows the struggles that they re going through. In line one, the speaker immediately begins with
I had a dream, which was not all a dream (Byron). In this quote he is bringing doubt on what s next to

Love was an important key in humans and without love there s no humanity. Even dogs turned against
their owners, except for one loyal dog. He stayed with his owner even after he had died. This comes to

became enemies. Little by little the earth became more and more empty to the point where there was
nothing left but pure darkness and silence. The ocean was dead. The wind and water stayed

Drones invading privacy
What s going on?
Graham Kerrisk spotted a small drone filming him through the window at his home in Masterton at 10
feet in the air. He knew the new multi rotor remote controlled craft belonged to his neighbour. At the
cost of $1600 it contained a live video feed, high resolution still camera and GPS. However Mr.
Kerrisk didn t find an apology acceptable enough for the drone s sneaky actions and went to find
answers from the police, but what he received was not the help he expected, however that didn t stop

(Option 2) Cause of action for invasion of privacy if the drone has a camera that has recorded private
activity, which could ultimately culminate in a temporary restraining order against the drone.
Option that is best and why.
Option 1 Cause of action for trespass might do the trick but is not effective enough to keep the drone
away from the property.
That s why I choose option 2 cause of action for invasion of privacy because with everything that
drones do, they are sure to include a camera so they can have that bird s eye view of what they re
wanting to video record or take pictures of, in relation to Mr. Kerrisk s case I m sure he would ve
chosen option 2 because the drone was filming him from outside his window, all of what the drone
captured would ve been enough for him to file a cause of action for invasion of privacy would ve been
better for him to select that option and at the same time wait for a reply from the Aviation NZ for their
response on what action to take up next with drones causing privacy concerns.

Analysis Of Lights Of A Long Night By Andre Dubus
In the essay lights of a long night Andre Dubus recalls the night he was struck by a car in many
instances. One possible reason why he continually elaborates the same night is because he is trying to
justify the loss of his legs. His wanting to help strangers did not turn out to be the samaritan gesture he
had intended it to be. One thing that I found ironic was that the car Dubus was waving at for help
caused him to lose his legs and Luis his life. Indeed, it would seem that on this event alone Dubus
actions would have proven to be fruitless despite his noble intentions of helping Luz and her brother.
In his closing he tell us undoubtedly that he is a cripple, alive , and that he is a father and husband
perhaps this is his recognition that he has more fulfilling duties to focus on rather than wallowing in
regret of his actions. Nevertheless, through this remembrance he comes to terms with his own sacrifice
and the fact that his life was forever altered. Overall, it was an enjoyable read because Dubus ends it
on a good note. Despite all the physical and psychological trauma he went through, he can never be
angry at himself for stopping that night (146). The author ends the essay re stating that he is a cripple,
but that he is alive, and a father and a husband sitting in the sunlight of June and writing this (146).
This makes the reader learn that cripples can also enjoy life s blessings and wonders. Despite that he is
now a cripple, Dubus doesn t regret his actions because he saved Luz Santiago s life.
Furthermore, to criticise the fact that dubus life was altered following an act to be a hero. I feel it was
an mistake for dubus to stop on a highway late at night to assist another sullivan. considering the fact
that is the time of night where you have drunk drivers and young teens racing. Walking on the
highway late at night is very unsafe. This is the time of night where drivers vision is impaired, people
tend to drive faster and illegal. With it being that time of night something was bound to happen simply
because of the the high risks of walking on the highway.
In other words I feel Dubus was at the wrong place at the wrong time. His life wouldn t have been
affected if he wasn t present at the

Carbon Tax Persuasive Essay
The new carbon tax which was implemented in 2017 will be doing great things for the environment.
The government of Alberta website stated that they will be using 6.2 billion dollars to help the
environment. Some of the money will be going to wind farms, solar panels, and other environmentally
friendly infrastructure. The carbon levy will help ease the change from coal and gas energy to more
environmentally friendly energy sources. In addition; the tax will cover 78 90% of Alberta carbon
emissions and in a couple of years when the environmentally friendly infrastructure is in place we can
expect that number to go up. If everybody was fully educated about all of the benefits of the carbon
tax then almost nobody would be against it. But since all Albertans have heard is that it will cost them
money they have been against it. Just as the carbon tax may be taking money out of our pockets
currently it also will soon bring a dramatic change in our quality of life. ... Show more content on

some extra money, so the lower and some middle class families can have a little bit extra spending
money. Likewise, the qualification for a carbon tax rebate is 47,500 for a single and 95,000 for

Managerial Economics And Strategic Analysis Of General Motors
Managerial Economics/Strategic Analysis
Jonas SalasMenchaca
American Military University
There are dynamic changes that have been observed in the corporate world, and this is also evident in
General Motors Company. Some of the significant changes include incorporation of certain
managerial practices in their daily business activities. The administrative activities include the use of
different types of strategic controls in decision making, application of rewards and incentives for
employee motivation, elements of leadership ethics programs, and use of risk mitigation techniques.
These strategies have various positive impacts on the general outcome of General Motors Company.
These strategies include the points mentioned below.
Contemporary approach to strategic control
It is one of the forms of management techniques used in the formation and execution of
decisions/plans. This method describes the process used by organizations in coming up with strategic
plans and how they are implemented. Thus, the primary purpose of this approach is to evaluate the
performance of an organization by measuring the impact of the past decisions and their implications to
the general outcome of a company as compared to the present situation. It doesn t only help in
planning and execution but also in giving a prediction on the performance of a company in the
immediate future. Thus, this approach has been of great importance to General Motors Company. It

Tropical Cyclones in Australia
Location: Tropical cyclones occur in the northern part of Australia, around the periphery, or in the
tropics. The areas most affected by tropical cyclones are Queensland and Western Australia, with New
South Wales being one of the states rarely affected. The season for tropical cyclones in the southern
hemisphere is from November to April.
What is a tropical cyclone: Tropical cyclones are a type of low pressure systems which generally form
in the tropics. They are violent storms, which rotate anti clockwise. Cloud and wind rotates a calm
central area, in the tropics (area north or south of the equator) and causes damage to people s
properties, death, destruction of recourses, and leaves people severely injured. Tropical cyclones occur

State/Territory: The responsibilities vary in the different levels of government, the state has to deal
with such issues as schooling (public schools), making sure that each child has an education; if a
cyclone where to hit their responsibility would be also for the repair and maintenance of the schools.
Also policing would be an issue the state/ territory would have to deal with, making sure our criminal
system is in order, and by trying to prevent as little crime if a cyclone where to struck. Main roads,
and traffic would be a very important matter it would have to deal with, due to uneven roads, no traffic
lights, unstable ground if a cyclone where to come.
Federal: The federal responsibilities include the supervising of the local and state/territory, making
sure that they do their job to help people get through the misfortune of a cyclone. They also have the
task of quarantine, and hospitalizing the injured. In the case of a cyclone they would also have to
manage the imports of supplies to the homeless, the Medicare and wellbeing of the people that were
put through that ordeal.
How do cyclones occur or form?
For a cyclone to develop its form, stages take place for this natural hazard to occur:
Stage zero The temperature of the ocean/sea has to be 26.5°C or over, during this stage a low pressure
system starts to gather clouds and become very stormy. Continuous cloud build up occurs, during the
night and day, due to the sun assisting to heat ocean/sea in

Plato s Apology

Human Wisdom
There are many different concepts and thoughts that can be taken from Plato s The Apology. It is my
personal opinion that Socrates views on wisdom, or more specifically, human wisdom, are among the
most paramount of points that should be taken and understood by the reader. Throughout his defense,
Socrates uses the concept of human wisdom (or the lack thereof) as an argument for his acquittal.
According to Socrates human wisdom has little value, and the only reason he is wiser than most men
is because he knows that he lacks human wisdom. Throughout the apology it would seem that wisdom
is not merely a single entity, rather, there are multiple types ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Socrates begins by discussing why his previous accusers accused him of what he did. I will try to
show you what has caused this reputation and slander...is none other than a certain kind of wisdom
(20d, 23a). His next point on human wisdom, is that it is not very valuable; That one of you, O human
beings, is wisest who, like Socrates, has become cognizant that in truth he is worth nothing with
respect to wisdom (23b). Socrates still believes however, that thinking about and examining wisdom is
extremely important to live a fulfilling life.
This first type of wisdom seems to be a concept of using wisdom as way to care for the soul.
I men of Athens, salute you and love you, but I will obey the god rather than you, and as long as I
draw breath and am able, I shall not cease to practice philosophy, to exhort you and in my usual way
to point out to any one of you whom I happen to meet: Good Sir, you are an Athenian, a citizen of the
greatest city with the greatest reputation for both wisdom and power; are you not ashamed of your
eagerness to possess as much wealth, reputation, and honors as possible, while you do not care for nor
give thought to wisdom or truth, or the best possible state of your soul?

Boo Radley Courage Quotes
Courage can mean being adventurous or doing something by yourself for the first time. Real courage
is having perseverance, determination and doing what you believe in. According to Atticus Finch in
Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, real courage is when you know you re licked before you begin
but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what. Mrs. Dubose, Boo Radley, and Atticus show
their courage by never giving up when things get tough or being afraid of going against societal
norms. Mrs. Dubose, Boo Radley, and Atticus Finch demonstrate Atticus s definition of real courage

Jem proves Mrs. Dubose s courage when he describes her after seeing her up close for the first time by
saying: but she s so nasty. She has fits or something. She spits a lot (124). This quote describes Mrs.
Dubose s will power; she perseveres through the negative side effects of quitting her addiction even
though she is very close to dying anyway. Jem does not know about Mrs. Dubose s sickness yet but
learns that everything is not always what it seems. From her front porch, Jem just sees her as a bitter
old lady however, once he gets close up to her he realizes what bad condition she is in and how frail
she is. The fact that Jem does not know about Mrs. Dubose s illness also shows her courage because
she is fighting her horrible illness without the support of her community. After Mrs. Dubose dies,
Atticus reveals that Mrs. Dubose wanted to die free and that she is the bravest person he has ever
known. During a conversation between Atticus and Jem, Atticus says I wanted you to see what real
courage is...It s when you know you re licked but you begin anyway... You rarely win but sometimes
you do. Mrs. Dubose won (128). This quote

Introduction:
The purpose of this article is to illustrate how financial cutbacks affect job quality as well as quality of
care (Burns, D. J., Hyde, P. J., Killett, A. M., 2016, p. 991). The article further goes on to predict that
ongoing and accelerated cost places pressure on facilities that ultimately affects the quality of jobs and
care in nursing homes based on their approach. The quality of residential care is a global concern and
as the number of aging adults only grows, this concern will only grow (Burns, D. J., Hyde, P. J., ...

The authors posed a question on whether or not the financial objectives of a for profit or non profit
play a role in the quality care. This study lacks the examination of whether or not these nursing homes
have the resources to organize certain work processes or the actual outcomes they achieve in terms of
care. The authors again use the two different approaches throughout the article to determine whether
these approaches and financial cutbacks affect the quality of workforce that ultimately affect the
quality of care residents receive (Burns, D. J., Hyde, P. J., Killett, A. M., 2016, p. 995).
Methods:
The authors took a qualitative design to their research to developed an understanding why the quality
of care varied across several nursing homes (Burns, D. J., Hyde, P. J., Killett, A. M., 2016, p. 995).
This study included 12 different nursing homes which consist of a mixture of non profit and for profit
nursing homes and residential living communities over the course of three years (2009 2012). Each
nursing home varied from 10 to 65 bed facilities that varied in the terms of the level of care provided.
Field research consisted of repeated site visits to each nursing home or living community, interviews,
and observations. Each visit to the different nursing communities lasted from four to six weeks.
During this time, the authors conducted 175 different interviews including department heads, nurses,
caregivers, residents, and family or relatives of the

Attitudes Towards Women In The Yellow Wallpaper And Three...
The expectations and attitudes towards women have changed over the course of history. In Charlotte
Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper and Joyce Carol Oates s Three Girls, the main characters have
to live their lives according to society s attitudes towards women. In both texts, there is the idea that
society expects women to not be independent, and enforces this by preventing them from getting
educations and increasing their knowledge. This impacts both stories by forcing the main women to
have two separate sides of themselves: one of which is accepted by society and the other of which is
not. The Yellow Wallpaper and Three Girls illustrate the societal idea that women shouldn t be
independent or be knowledgeable in their own right. The protagonist of The Yellow Wallpaper was a
woman who wanted to write, but was prevented from doing so by her husband. He didn t allow her to
do anything or go anywhere as a form of cure for a mental condition. Without the ability to write her
thoughts, the protagonist was restricted in her ability to think freely and to express her ideas. Putting
her in isolation also prevented her from exchanging knowledge with others and living a life reliant on
herself. She was physically and mentally trapped, unable to further herself in society and become her
own independent person. She was trapped by walls, but she was also trapped by society. Both
prevented her from gaining the knowledge required to rely on herself, keeping her trapped

The Influence Of The Baroque Period
People used to describe the Baroque period as grand, joyful, exuberant and dynamic. The term
Baroque originally represented an irregular, oddly shaped pearl in Italian. The Baroque took the

Baroque was born in Rome, date from the late 16th century. While in some parts of the world,
especially Germany and colonial South America, certain culminating achievements of Baroque did not

The popularity and success of the Baroque age was informed by the tensions of the Reformation and

Descartes, Hobbes, and Pascal Essay examples
Descartes, Hobbes, and Pascal During the 17th and 18th century, religion, religious beliefs and most
of all the religious leaders played a very influential role in the direction of politics. This was also a
time when religion and politics played a large role in the direction of what was accepted as a result of
the new discoveries in the natural sciences and in a time when there were some very influential
writers, philosophers, scientists and mathematicians. At the time, these people were considered to be
very radical and revolutionary because of some of their beliefs and this often times led them to be
highly scrutinized, criticized and sometimes even punished by the legal system. Now in the 21st

In it, Descartes talks about the existence of the human beings and the existence of God. He gets
himself to doubt everything and then assumes that doubt does exist. That is how he reaches to the
conclusion of Cogito Ergo Sum , which means, I think, therefore I am . He realizes that if he can
think, then he also exists, and he uses this also to prove the existence of God. He says that the body
and the mind are two separate entities and the only thing that unites them is God. Descartes was very
flattered to know how much people appreciate his writings and he assured that he probably would
have had a better time with the church nowadays because they are more open minded. In the past,
although Descartes believed in God, the Church did not like him a lot and that really depressed him.
He realized that nowadays, the Church is not as strict as before because science has taken total control
over the people and now is much more respected than before. As we can see, as time has gone by, he
continues, science has divorced from the church and it seems that soon it will become like a separate
religion because he was amazed how much people believe in all of the science s claims. The next
author that will talk about is Thomas Hobbes. As we all know, he was the writer of the famous

How One Simple Tree In William Shakespeare s The Tree
The big idea of my poem is how one simple place can have such an important meaning in one s life. In
this poem, I used the poetic device of Anaphora with the words The tree. I believe this enhances my
poem because it really emphasizes how meaningful the tree in throughout the entire story and how no
matter where the two boys are in their life, they both seem to find their way back to the tree. Also, I
used the poetic device of an oxymoron when I wrote alone together. Using these words show that as
young kids, Hassan and Amir didn t need anyone else, they were best friends that all they needed was
each other and one and others company. Another poetic device I used was personification when I
wrote the tree that learned and the names of the bark split apart and went their separate ways. Using
personification in this poem helped to show that other people/things realized how strong the two boys
friendship was and that they almost became one. Also, I used the simile grew like seeds planted in the
ground because this relates the boys to the tree in the way that they come from a seed in the ground.
This creates more of a bond between the boys and the tree because it makes it feel like they are more
of equals. Finally, I used alliteration when I wrote, late loving lifelong... and this conveys multiple of
the feeling Amir has for Hassan. Throughout this poem, I used the ages of the pomegranate tree to
relate the the ages of the boys friendship. A quote that relates to the beginning of the poem is, One
summer day, I used one of ali s kitchen knives to carve our names on it: Amir and Hassan, the sultans
of Kabul. Those words made it formal: the tree was ours. After school Hassan and I climbed its
branches and snatched its blood red pomegranates. After we d eaten the fruit and wiped out hands on
the glass, I would read to Hassan (Hosseini 27 28). This shows that boys friendship at the beginning
and how strongly they cared for each other. As the book went on the the tree aged, the boys friendship
had some turns for the worse. A quote from the book to describe the harder times of the boys
relationship is, We had picked a dozen pomegranates from the tree. I unfolded the story I d brought
along, turned to the

In many circles of Buddhism, they do not see themselves as religious but instead a philosophy with no belief in a god or high power. Rather a higher understanding called nirvana. The Buddhist tradition of nirvana is described as the extinguishing of the fires that cause suffering. These fires are typically identified as the fires of attachment, aversion, and ignorance. Once again in this belief we see the idea of letting go and becoming more aware about the self. There are many types of enlightenment in Buddhism but the most prevalent is nirvana and the release from rebirth cycles. Where there is nothing; where naught is grasped, there is the Isle of No Beyond. Nirvana do I call it the utter extinction of aging and dying. There is that dimension where there is neither earth, nor water, nor fire, nor wind; neither dimension of the infinitude of space, nor dimension of the infinitude of consciousness, nor dimension of nothingness, nor dimension of neither perception nor non perception; neither this world, nor the next world, nor sun, nor moon. And there, I say, there is neither coming, nor going, nor stasis; neither passing away nor arising: without stance, without foundation, without support. This, just this, is the end of stress. Igor Stravinsky Rite Of Spring A critique of The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky and Folding by Shen Wei On November 22th, I enjoyed the Rite of Spring and Folding at Centennial Hall in U of A. Both of them shocked me by their unique way of performances. From the very beginning, The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky strengthens in a volatile sense of harmonious movements. The Rite of Spring is quite different from classical ballets whose subtle interchange of the curvaceous, subjective lithesome in the flow of time that romanticism savored. In this particular dance which was carefully planned by Igor Stravinsky, Stravinsky s rhythms hit and batter; although highly asymmetric they are still pounded in such a new way that the score requires innovation in harmonious representation to make Stravinsky s invention workable. In this dance, there is no way are these rhythms presented subtly, in fact, they are habitually stricken out in harmony by the huge orchestra that the work uses. Undeniably, one of the most enjoyable facets of a noble performance, even without dance convention, is the way that it looks. Their grey outfit and sporadic black tops make them a perfect blend. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was as if there was nobody and only the ghost like dancers onstage accompanied by irregular music terrified me. So as to concentrate on the listener s discernment on the rhythm, musical material, Stravinsky at times reduces to tiny repetitive configurations of a simple two or three pitch. In tandem with this rectilinear plainness, The Rite of Spring s gargantuan crunching synchronizations move at the stride of glaciers, this gradual harmonic movement puzzlingly magnifying the general sense of drive and energy. These structures of sound, although distressingly dissonant for an audience in 1913, are selected with perfect modification, and they reinforce Stravinsky s complete arc with a structural indemnity on a practically Beethovenian ... • 12. Modern American Liberalism Research Paper According to Roskin s text, ideology is a belief system that society can be improved by following certain doctrines . In politics, ideology cements together movements, parties, and revolutionary groups. It s a way of explaining reality, of searching for certainty or what some would call truth it allows us to draw conclusions upon which we can take action. While particular ideologies may rise or fall, ideological forms of politics seem to be an enduring feature of world history. The textbook contends that in line with Adam Smith s thinking, classic liberalism expelled government from the marketplace; modern liberalism brought it back in, this time to protect people from sometimes unfair economic system. It could be claimed that it is not just an ideology but is the ideology for all mankind, a fundamental truth that is not culturally specific to the West but is of global value. Modern American liberals value institutions that defend against economic inequality. Modern American liberalism is typically associated with the Democratic party, as modern American conservatism is typically associated with the Republican party. Liberals typically accept scientific ideas that some conservatives reject, such as evolution and global warming. While both types of liberals will be strong on ending the police state and ensuring due process, the biggest differences arise in economic matters. Classic liberals favor low or no tariffs, reduced regulatory burdens, even taxation with a low tax burden, and thus reduced government expenditures and small government overall. Modern liberals favor a highly progressive tax system, high taxes to break up large aggregations of wealth at the upper strata, many regulations on businesses, high minimum wage laws, and barriers to free international trade. Modern liberalism is not completely collectivist; nor is it completely individualistic. It has elements of both doctrines. The same is true of conservatism. Neither view provides a coherent approach to politics, built up from first principles. Whereas conservatism and liberalism are both outgrowths of classical liberal thought, they differ in what they accept and reject of their intellectual roots (Goodman). Conservatism tends to accept the classical liberal commitment to economic liberty but rejects many of its applications to the noneconomic realm. Liberalism accepts the classical liberal commitment to civil liberties but largely rejects the idea of economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Essay on Slavery in Latin America Slavery in Latin America Chile History Before the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th cent., the Araucanians had long been in control of the land in the southern part of the region; in the north, the inhabitants were ruled by the Inca empire. Diego de Almagro, who was sent by Francisco Pizarro from Peru to explore the southern region, led a party of men through the Andes into the central lowlands of Chile but was unsuccessful (1536) in establishing a foothold there. In 1540, Pedro de Valdivia marched into Chile and, despite stout resistance from the Araucanians, founded Santiago (1541) and later established La Serena, Concepción, and Valdivia. The colonial aristocracy and the clergy had been discredited because of royalist leanings. The army, plus a few intellectuals, established a government devoid of democratic forms. Yet with the centralistic constitution of 1833, fashioned largely by Diego Portales on Chile s particular needs, a foundation was laid for the gradual emergence of parliamentary government and a long period of stability. During the administrations of Manuel Bulnes (1841 51) and Manuel Montt (1851 61) the country experienced governmental reform and material progress. The war of 1866 between Peru and Spain involved Chile and led the republic to fortify its coast and build a navy. Chileans obtained the right to work the nitrate fields in the Atacama, which then belonged to Bolivia. Trouble over the concessions led in 1879 to open war (see Pacific, War of the). Chile was the victor and added valuable territories taken from Bolivia and Peru; a long standing quarrel also ensued, the Tacna Arica Controversy, which was finally settled in 1929. Chile also became involved in serious border troubles with Argentina; it was as a sign and symbol of the end of this trouble that the Christ of the Andes was dedicated in 1904. She is soon to be married so half her heart belongs to her new husband. The rest is for caring for her family which includes her sisters, and her father. This passage shows that she is honest and does not reduce herself for pleasing her father. As she speaks to her father she keeps a calm and collected attitude. She speaks to him respectfully. Throughout the passage the author uses abstract diction to express the emotions cordelia feels. This passage is significant to the play because it sets up the events following. • 15. Amanda Knox Summary AMANDA KNOX: AN EXAMINATION OF JUSTICE COMPARING U.S. VS. THE ITALIAN STRUCTURE OF THE COURTS SYSTEMS, AND THE USE OF EVIDENCE FOR CONVICTION November 2, 2007, was a very sad day due to the murder of Meredith Kercher. This is the day Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito lives were forever changed. This murder took place in Italy and through this case the Criminal and Justice Systems were found to be very different from country to country. This case specifically brought light how the United States and Italy are different when it comes to finding justice for committing a murder. These differences consist of an examination of justice, structure of the court systems and the use of evidence for conviction. The Italian Justice System is an inquisitorial system (Huziker, 2016). In an inquisitorial system, the court is involved in the investigation (Huziker, 2016). The judge and the prosecutor work together in investigating the case (Huziker, 2016). This is interesting because, the judge also decides whether the accused is innocent or guilty (Huziker, 2016). Before the trial starts and due to the inquisitorial system used, the judge has a preconceived notion as to which way they want to favor (Huziker, 2016). The Italian court is set up with three judges and six lay assessors of facts (Krings, 2015). There is no oath taken for the defendant when they take the stand (Huziker, 2016). When it comes to the Amanda Knox case, the main topic was on innocents or guilty (Linth, 2013). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The battle of equal right in many aspects for gay and lesbian couples have been going on for years, and although significant progress has been made, there are many aspects within their relationships that are not yet equal to heterosexual couples in similar situations. Gay and lesbian couples have to deal with daily discrimination within issues such as marriage, legal issues, medical issues, and mamy forms for homophobia. Adoption has been a big question and fight for gay and lesbian couples for many years, one that is still being found today. Questions of whether or not a gay or lesbian couple can properly raise a healthy child, if the child s psychological development would be compromised, any many other arguments have been proposed in disapproval of adoption for these couples. Adoption is a tedious process for a heterosexual married couple and the challenges and hoops needed to be jumped through to finalize the process can be even more difficult for homosexual couples and single gay or lesbian individuals. Gay and lesbian couples have faced many challenges through the course of time, and adoption is just another part of that challenge. Just as it is legal for men and women of the same sex to marry, so is adopting a child. However, there is great prejudice over the issue and the power of opinion often stunts, and sometimes terminates, the couples process and success of being able to adopt a child of their own all because of the judges, biological parents, or spectators personal opinions. In 2004 the American Psychological Association declared the no difference theory that states, no scientific evidence that parenting effectiveness is related to parental sexual orientation: lesbian and gay parents are as likely as heterosexual parents to provide supportive and healthy environments for their children, . Similarly, the fact that the DNA sensing pathway is quick to become anomalous is likely due to the initial detection of viral ssRNA by RIG I (Pichlmair, et al., 2006). In fig. 5, we show further evidence of the pathway cascade, i.e., the fraction of the subjects that have k pathways out of 403 that are in alarm at a given time averaged over all symptomatic subjects. This graph suggests that the pathway cascade could permit a potentially very early diagnosis of influenza. For example, these results suggest that at least 25% of patients that become symptomatic could be identified in the first 16 hours of infection using a five alarm pathway. Discussion of pathway results The most likely pathway to go into alarm first in our experiment, based on the MSET results, was the cytosolic DNA sensing pathway. It was the first pathway to alarm in the cascade over 70% of the time. Influenza A does not generate dsDNA, but negative sense ssRNA (Pichlmair, et al., 2006). One possible reason why he continually elaborates the same night is because he is trying to justify the loss of his legs. His wanting to help strangers did not turn out to be the samaritan gesture he had intended it to be. One thing that I found ironic was that the car Dubus was waving at for help caused him to lose his legs and Luis his life. Indeed, it would seem that on this event alone Dubus actions would have proven to be fruitless despite his noble intentions of helping Luz and her brother. In his closing he tell us undoubtedly that he is a cripple, alive , and that he is a father and husband perhaps this is his recognition that he has more fulfilling duties to focus on rather than wallowing in regret of his actions. Nevertheless, through this remembrance he comes to terms with his own sacrifice and the fact that his life was forever altered. Overall, it was an enjoyable read because Dubus ends it on a good note. Despite all the physical and psychological trauma he went through, he can never be angry at himself for stopping that night (146). The author ends the essay re stating that he is a cripple, but that he is alive, and a father and a husband sitting in the sunlight of June and writing this (146). This makes the reader learn that cripples can also enjoy life s blessings and wonders. Despite that he is now a cripple, Dubus doesn t regret his actions because he saved Luz Santiago s life. • 32. Attitudes Towards Women In The Yellow Wallpaper And Three... The expectations and attitudes towards women have changed over the course of history. In Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper and Joyce Carol Oates s Three Girls, the main characters have to live their lives according to society s attitudes towards women. In both texts, there is the idea that society expects women to not be independent, and enforces this by preventing them from getting educations and increasing their knowledge. This impacts both stories by forcing the main women to have two separate sides of themselves: one of which is accepted by society and the other of which is not. The Yellow Wallpaper and Three Girls illustrate the societal idea that women shouldn t be independent or be knowledgeable in their own right. The protagonist of The Yellow Wallpaper was a woman who wanted to write, but was prevented from doing so by her husband. He didn t allow her to do anything or go anywhere as a form of cure for a mental condition. Without the ability to write her thoughts, the protagonist was restricted in her ability to think freely and to express her ideas. Putting her in isolation also prevented her from exchanging knowledge with others and living a life reliant on herself. She was physically and mentally trapped, unable to further herself in society and become her own independent person. She was trapped by walls, but she was also trapped by society. Both prevented her from gaining the knowledge required to rely on herself, keeping her trapped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Descartes, Hobbes, and Pascal Essay examples Descartes, Hobbes, and Pascal During the 17th and 18th century, religion, religious beliefs and most of all the religious leaders played a very influential role in the direction of politics. This was also a time when religion and politics played a large role in the direction of what was accepted as a result of the new discoveries in the natural sciences and in a time when there were some very influential writers, philosophers, scientists and mathematicians. At the time, these people were considered to be very radical and revolutionary because of some of their beliefs and this often times led them to be highly scrutinized, criticized and sometimes even punished by the legal system. Now in the 21st century, these views that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In it, Descartes talks about the existence of the human beings and the existence of God. He gets himself to doubt everything and then assumes that doubt does exist. That is how he reaches to the conclusion of Cogito Ergo Sum , which means, I think, therefore I am . He realizes that if he can think, then he also exists, and he uses this also to prove the existence of God. He says that the body and the mind are two separate entities and the only thing that unites them is God. Descartes was very flattered to know how much people appreciate his writings and he assured that he probably would have had a better time with the church nowadays because they are more open minded. In the past, although Descartes believed in God, the Church did not like him a lot and that really depressed him. He realized that nowadays, the Church is not as strict as before because science has taken total control over the people and now is much more respected than before. As we can see, as time has gone by, he continues, science has divorced from the church and it seems that soon it will become like a separate religion because he was amazed how much people believe in all of the science s claims. The next author that will talk about is Thomas Hobbes. As we all know, he was the writer of the famous Leviathan, which was written in England on 1651. In his writing, he presents us a bleak picture of human beings in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. How One Simple Tree In William Shakespeare s The Tree The big idea of my poem is how one simple place can have such an important meaning in one s life. In this poem, I used the poetic device of Anaphora with the words The tree. I believe this enhances my poem because it really emphasizes how meaningful the tree in throughout the entire story and how no matter where the two boys are in their life, they both seem to find their way back to the tree. Also, I used the poetic device of an oxymoron when I wrote alone together. Using these words show that as young kids, Hassan and Amir didn t need anyone else, they were best friends that all they needed was each other and one and others company. Another poetic device I used was personification when I wrote the tree that learned and the names of the bark split apart and went their separate ways. Using personification in this poem helped to show that other people/things realized how strong the two boys friendship was and that they almost became one. Also, I used the simile grew like seeds planted in the ground because this relates the boys to the tree in the way that they come from a seed in the ground. This creates more of a bond between the boys and the tree because it makes it feel like they are more of equals. Finally, I used alliteration when I wrote, late loving lifelong... and this conveys multiple of the feeling Amir has for Hassan. Throughout this poem, I used the ages of the pomegranate tree to relate the the ages of the boys friendship. A quote that relates to the beginning of the poem is, One summer day, I used one of ali s kitchen knives to carve our names on it: Amir and Hassan, the sultans of Kabul. Those words made it formal: the tree was ours. After school Hassan and I climbed its branches and snatched its blood red pomegranates. After we d eaten the fruit and wiped out hands on the glass, I would read to Hassan (Hosseini 27 28). This shows that boys friendship at the beginning and how strongly they cared for each other. As the book went on the the tree aged, the boys friendship had some turns for the worse. A quote from the book to describe the harder times of the boys relationship is, We had picked a dozen pomegranates from the tree. I unfolded the story I d brought along, turned to the ...
