Joseph J Ellis Contributions
Joseph J. Ellis was born on July 18, 1943; he continued to excel in school all the way through college,
when he received his B.A. from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. In 1969, Ellis had
earned both his Masters Degree and PhD from Yale University, yet went on to teach U.S. History at
West Point. Currently, Ellis teaches at the University of Massachusetts where he inspires many
students to pursue careers in historical studies; however, most of Ellis impact on the world comes
from his writing. Based on his eight books, one can infer that Joseph J. Ellis has a passion for
American history and the leaders that played a role to form it. In Ellis most note worthy book,
Founding Fathers: The Revolutionary Generation, Ellis endows his vast knowledge in American ...

However, after a little research, it was found that instead of serving in the military, Ellis was actually
attending Graduate school at Yale University till 1965 to then later receive his Doctorate in 1969.
Although going to school was beneficial, the fact that he lied hurt many Americans; he was ridiculed
and his books lost their popularity. Bonnie Goodman of History News Network states Ellis was
creating a past more worthy of his current stature and position in order to justify his actions. In an act
of discipline, Mount Holyoke was forced to put Ellis on a year leave without pay. However, it was
during this time off that Ellis began working on a new book entitled His Excellency, George
Washington. In this book, Ellis talks about all the accomplishments of Washington, as well as his
character flaws. Ellis was able to relate to Washington during this time in his life and enhanced his
book by making comparisons between Washington and himself. Ellis used his own life to influence his
writing, creating a book that was better written and using his failure as an

Juvenile Detenting System Case Study
This court has exclusive jurisdiction over personal, commercial, or farm bankruptcy (United States
Courts, 2017). This modern courthouse was made specifically to embrace technology. The courtrooms
are equipped with a digital recording system, and several have document cameras, projectors, and flat
screen monitors (United States District Bankruptcy Court, 2017). The Corpus Christi area has two
main jails to house their inmates: Nueces County Jail and McKenzie Annex. The county jail can and
did house 1, 068 prisoners, maintaining 100 percent capacity. Since it is illegal for a jail to exceed 90
percent capacity, the federal government removed their inmates that were housed at the facility,

Of the 412.2 Texas crimes per 100, 000 people, about 4.8 were homicide, 77.1 were rape, and 116.3
were robbery. Aggravated assault occurs about 429.5 per every 100, 000 people in Corpus Christi,
almost twice the Texas average of 246.6. Property crimes are also especially high in Corpus Christi
with 3, 450.7 per every 100, 000 while in Texas about 2, 831.3 occur. In Corpus Christi for every 100,
000 residents, about 671.7 burglaries, 2, 624.5 larcenies, and 157.5 motor vehicle thefts occur. Motor
vehicle theft is the only index offense where Texas has a higher average; for every 100, 000 residents,
about 557.2 burglaries, 2, 028.5 larcenies, and 245.7 motor vehicle thefts occur (Federal Bureau of
Investigation, 2015). One of Corpus Christi s detrimental issues is the drug and alcohol problem. In
2014, 783 people per every 100, 000 persons in Nueces County were arrested for drug abuse
violations and 421 for driving under the influence. Texas averages were lower for both of these
categories with 421 for drugs and 263 for driving under the influence. A drastic difference between
Nueces County s and Texas rates are seen in arrests for liquor laws and drunkenness. About 141 per
every 100, 000 people were in Nueces County for liquor laws, and 1, 186 people were arrested for
drunkenness. Texas averages are less than half for both of these arrest rates with 49 for liquor laws and

Research Methods Of Health And Social Care
Research Methods in Health and Social Care
Throughout research in Health and social care settings, there are many implications with the research,
which takes place. Many research methods include ethical issues which have to be considered when
conducting research. Ethical issues need to be considered when research is being conducted, in all
methods of conducting the research information.
One method of research is using interviews. For example, when using interviews in a care home, when
conducting research, many ethical issues can be raised. Interviews not only take place face to face, but
also can happen on the phone, online, through text messaging, using a video messenger and though
social media. Interviews are a very useful way of collecting information because a wide range of
detailed information can be collected at a large quantity. There are two types of interviews: structured
or unstructured.
Structured interviews are where the interviewer has already pre planned the questions that they will
use in the interview. This is useful because the interview can be repeated, as the questions are
standardised.
Unstructured interviews are not made up of prepared questions. The interviewer will ask more open
questions about board topics and then use follow up questions to gain more answers in further detail.
This method of interview is time consuming however it enables the interviewee to answer questions in
more detail and depth. It is possible that audio recordings can be

Mongol Dbq Essay
I believe the mongols were barbaric and don t deserve to have the scale tip in their favor. In the first
slide it says the streets were filled with human flesh and fat, from women, children, and adults
regardless if they were a combatant or not. Another example would be the city of Riazan, it was razed
to the ground and it s inhabitants were all massacred, only a few were left alive to spread the message.
It s widely known that if you refused to surrender then the whole city would be massacred and raised
to the ground. (Doc1 3) Doc 1 3 talks about how the Mongol army was just more than a ragtag horde
of calvary. They had discipline and often implemented psychological warfare into their tactics, I.E.
attacking a city non stop so the defenders get no sleep or raising a city to the ground to send a
message. The mongols had a system where any deserters would either get killed or get their comrades
killed in their place, or if their comrades fail to rescue them, then their comrades will get executed. ...

Activity Based Costing And How It Works
I chose to write about activity based costing. I chose to write this paper because I wanted to know
more about activity based costing and how it works. According to our text, activity based costing
(ABC) has received a lot of attention since the 90 s. ABC has a lot of more details and can be more
complicated than all the other costing methods, however it s more accurate. Costing systems are
information systems. They require a specific type of information such as direct labour hours and units
produced, to be of value. It is from the input data that product costs and other information are
determined according to the specific costing system defined methodology. The results obtained would
depend on the costing system used, since the same input data could be used in different ways. In this
case the traditional costing system or an activity based costing system (Marx.) A costing system
should provide information to help minimize waste, but should not be wasteful in itself. In other
words, the resources required to design, implement and maintain a costing system should be less than
the benefit derived from the use of the system (Marx.) Activity based costing (ABC) assigns
manufacturing overhead costs to products in a more logical manner than the traditional approach of
simply allocating costs on the basis of machine hours. Activity based costing first assigns costs to the
activities that are the real cause of the overhead. It then assigns the cost of those activities only to

Notes On The Global Financial Crisis
w how transactions in derivative instruments can be used to either hedge risks or to open speculative
positions.
1. Introduction
The latest global financial crisis, starting from the United States since 2007, has pushed the financial
derivatives to be a hot spot. The publics usually believe that the inappropriate application of
derivatives should be to blame for this, which is totally wrong. It is apparent that there is no single
financial crisis resulting from only a kind of financial product. Whatever the instrument is, including
credit derivatives and basic derivatives, they are only the conducting tools holding by the real culprits.
The ultimate cause of this financial crisis is the imbalance of the global economy, or in other words, ...

Unlike a spot contract, it does not exercise immediately after writing. This kind of derivatives is
traded in the over the counter market. After entering into contract, time passes by, price of the
underlying asset may change, interest rate may change, so the market price of the forward contract
most likely will change. The market price of the forward contract is therefore variable, but the contract
s delivery price is always the same. As to a forwards, both parties have an obligation to execute the
contract at the maturity and since forwards does not require any outlay to enter, the total payoff from
the contract is exactly equal to the total profit or loss of the investor from the contract.
Most holders of forwards are usually hedgers who is facing potential risks. Since that, they want to use
the forwards contracts to avoid the adverse price movements in the future and offset the risk exposure
as much as possible. However, speculators are willing to take some risks in the markets for potential
equivalent return. Usually, they use derivatives to bet on the future direction of movements in the
price and mostly, their counter party is hedger, due to their exactly different expectations of price
movements. Say a shareholder is worrying about the stock price falling so he can conduct a short
hedge to avoid unexpected movements of price with a

The American Crisis By Thomas Paine
The American Crisis is a pamphlet series by 18th century Enlightenment philosopher and author
Thomas Paine, originally published from 1776 to 1783 during the American Revolution. Often known
as The American Crisis or simply The Crisis, there are 16 pamphlets in total. Thirteen numbered
pamphlets were published between 1776 and 1777, with three additional pamphlets released between
1777 and 1783. The first of the pamphlets were published in Pennsylvania Journal. Paine signed the
pamphlets with the pseudonym, Common Sense. The pamphlets were contemporaneous with early
parts of the American Revolution, during a time when colonists needed inspiring works. Paine, like
many other politicians and scholars, knew that the Colonists weren t going ... Show more content on

Paine sees the British political and military maneuvers in America as impious; for so unlimited a
power can belong only to God. Paine states that he believes God supports the American cause, that
God Almighty will not give up a people to military destruction, or leave them unsupportedly to perish,
who have so earnestly and so repeatedly sought to avoid the calamities of war, by every decent
method which wisdom could invent .Paine takes great lengths to state that Americans do not lack
force, but a proper application of that force implying throughout that an extended war can lead only to
defeat unless a stable army was composed not of militia but of trained professionals. But Paine
maintains a positive view overall, hoping that this American crisis can be quickly resolved, for though
the flame of liberty may sometimes cease to shine, the coal can never expire. The Crisis No. 1 starts
out with the famous line These are the times that try men s souls, and goes on to talk about how
Britain has no right to invade America, saying that it is a power belonging only to God. He also says
that if being bound in that manner is not slavery, then there is not such a thing

MODULE 2, MINI REPORT 2
November 1, 2012 GWL Roofing Limited
Overview
GWL Roofing Limited (GWL) manufactures roofing materials, and installs and services roofs for
industrial, commercial, and investment (ICI) properties. GWL s head office and sole manufacturing
facility are located in eastern Quebec. In addition, GWL has distribution facilities located across
eastern Canada and the northeastern United States. The U.S. location houses the administrative
functions of GWL s wholly owned U.S. subsidiary, GWL Roofing U.S. Limited (GWL US).
Gaston Laroche, who was a roofer by trade, founded GWL in 1963. Gaston s business philosophy was

In addition, GWL claims that its products are specifically designed to meet the demands of the harsh
winters experienced in Canada and in the northern United States. As a result, GWL s products tend to
be more expensive to manufacture than those produced by its competitors. GWL s roofs are
guaranteed against defects in materials for a period of 15 years by its warranty program.
GWL markets itself as a provider of roof management solutions. The cost of a roof over its useful life
of about 20 years can be quite substantial for ICI properties. Maintaining a high quality roof is
essential to the value of the property, as well as to the continuity of the operations housed by the
property. However, most maintenance managers employed to manage ICI properties by property
managers, manufacturers, and other organizations are generalists, and typically don t have extensive
knowledge of roofing problems and proper roofing maintenance procedures. GWL not only sells the
physical roof itself, but also offers its customers worry free roofing solutions.
In order to meet the growing demand for expertise in roof maintenance, in 1998, GWL began offering
its customers a Roof Management Program with respect to the roofs that it installs. According to this
program, the customer enters into a long term maintenance and servicing contract with GWL. The
customer makes an annual maintenance payment, and GWL takes care of all matters pertaining to the
customer s roof. The annual

The Goodyear And The Tire Industry
The Goodyear name has been one of the most recognized brands in the tire industry around the world.
They are known for having a superior quality product through the price and positions they have
chosen. Their slogan, The best tires in the world have Goodyear written all over them, (Kerin, 2005)
provides their customers with a high class message and creates an importance for them to preserve the
accessibility of their high value brands. Unfortunately, consumers have become more price conscious
about their tire purchases and less focused on loyalty to a specific brand. They experienced a 3.2%
decline in the market share for the tires associated with passenger car replacement (Kerin, 2005).
Because of this change, Goodyear has seen a drop in their sales. With already 2 million Goodyear
brand tires, which have been worn out, being replaced at 850 Sears Auto Center locations annually,
Goodyear reopened previous discussions with Sears to possibly sell their Eagle brand tires or all
Goodyear tire brands through them. Choosing to do so could create great benefits for the company but
could also generate turmoil within their franchises and other retail chains where their brands are sold.
Before making the final decision, they must determine how this move will affect their franchisees, are
they willing to significantly change their distribution policy, what brands Goodyear will allow to be
retailed through the Sears network, and how cannibalization of their brands sold via other

Migration from Sudan into the United States Essay
Migration from Sudan into the United States In recent years the US has experienced a large influx of
migration. Immigrants come from many different countries, races, religions and for many different
reasons. One group of immigrants that received national attention is a group from Sudan that has been
called The Lost Boys . The reason behind the national attention is due to the dramatic circumstances
that brought them to America. To understand these circumstances it is important to understand their
history. Sudan is the largest country in Africa. It is between two powerful cultural regions, the Islamic
north and the Christian south. Africa has more than 400 languages and dialects. There are 597

and Saudi Arabia, as economic hardships drew it away from the Soviet Union and closer to western
nations. During the 1980 s, strikes, riots and shortages of goods and services had devastated the
nation. The discovery of natural resources, such as minerals and petroleum that were discovered in the
south added to the problem. Although the discovery of natural reserves should have helped Sudan s
economic situation, it became another source of conflict between the north and the south over who
would control it. The southern forces backed indirectly by the Soviet Union through Ethiopia
reorganized into the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army and rose up against the North. At this point in the
civil unrest, the war took on a religious aspect, fueled by Nimeiry s implementation of the Sharia,
which is Islamic law. In 1986 a coup forced Nimeiry out of power and he was replaced by a coalition
of northern political parties. On 1989 a northern coalition was overthrown by General Omar al Bashir

Literature V And Catullus
Literature from different time periods and different parts of the world has served as a mode of
influencing people and sparking reform. However, sometimes pieces of literature have unknowingly
influenced other modern day aspects. These similar connections may be found in other present day
literary works, or films, songs, events, and just about anything. For instance, the ancient poem,
Carmen 8 written by Roman poet, Catullus greatly influenced the modern day song, I Fall Apart
performed by Post Malone through similar uses of egocentric tone, masculine stereotypes, battling
internal conflicts, the theme of rejection, and a sense of a deranged mind.
To being with, the ancestor work, Carmen 8 written by Catullus in a few words is a pep talk to
himself, after an illicitly amorous affair between Catullus and a woman by the pseudo name of Lesbia
suddenly ends. The poem opens with Catullus chiding himself for being too gullible and not noticing
the obvious end to the affair. He describes the end as a cease of light in the lines, once there were
sunlit days when you followed after where ever a girl would go... Those were the bright days gone;
now she s no longer yielding, (Gregory, L. 3 8). After Catullus reminisces over his love for Lesbia, he
again rebukes himself for being emasculate by weeping over a woman. Furthermore, Catullus slanders
Lesbia and sneeringly rhetorically asks her what man will compliment her, claim her, and kiss her, if it
is not him anymore. Catullus ends the poem reassuring himself to be firm as rock as, (Gregory, L. 17).
Similar to Carmen 8, the descendant work, I Fall Apart performed by Post Malone is a reflection of a
breakup. The song starts with a quick summary of the breakup, which was the girl not thinking Post
Malone was sufficient for her, thus she left him suddenly and heartbroken. Post Malone goes on to
reiterate the feeling of his heart breaking, and also stating that he had never loved with greater
immensity in the lines, never caught a feelin this hard, harder than the liquor I pour, (Malone, L. 17
18). Moreover, Post Malone insults the girl, after he states he cannot move on from her even after
everyone else but him had seen the end coming. Towards the end of the

Introduction
In this era of modernization, obesity has become a common disorder affecting a large number of
individuals all around the world. According to research published in 2013, one in five American
deaths is now associated with obesity.[1] In fact, obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat
accumulation that presents a risk to health.[10] An obese person will mount up a large amount of body
fat that it might bring about negative effect on their health. Waist circumference is an easy way to
check how much body fat we have and its distribution around our body. Eventually, it compares
closely with our body mass index (BMI), and is often seen as a better way of checking our risk of
developing a chronic disease.[9] A study has been done to show the threshold values for body mass
index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) for detecting cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.[3] Thus,

Scientific Management Theory Paper
In organizational world, the management and organizational theory plays an important part in the
operations of business, companies and administrations. An organization consists of two or more
persons in a systematic effort to produce goods or services. Thus, an organization needs a management
to achieve the organizational goals through some managerial process which is an ongoing activity.
Therefore, in every organization has a manager that plays important roles as systematic planner.
According to Cleslinska (2007), managers need a knowledge base and management skill to act out
roles and plan, organize, lead and control. Generally, a lot of managers run their organizations using

According to Hasebur Rahman (2012) stated that Taylor shows the value of matching the job to the

He also emphasized the selection proceeds years after years and need to study workers strengths and
weaknesses and provides training to improve workers performance. The employees must be able to do
a better class of work and pay higher wages than before (Shafritz Ott, 1991). Taylor s principle is to
ensure the most efficient way would be use workers in order to make the standard work process. At
this point, the production process is divided into numerous divisions where this makes managers
easily to control and co ordinate the workers performance and to improve the efficiency of the
organization. Thus, the efficiency will increase when the work is divided into different parts according
to different functional departments and each individual should be assigned to work according to their

Social Order In Elizabethan England
For my research project, I am focusing on social order in Elizabethan England and how the Great
Chain of Being might have affected that order. Marjorie K. McIntosh s Poverty, Charity, and Coercion
in Elizabethan England highlights how the upperclass gave assistance to the lower classes because
their Christian faith guided them to do so. However, A. L. Beier s Vagrants and the Social Order in
Elizabethan England takes a more cynical approach to the issue of social order and argues that the
poor vagrants were not given widespread assistance. Although Beier and McIntosh disagree upon the
extent to which the poor were given assistance and the upper class s views of the lower classes, they
are similar in that they both acknowledge that the only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

helped vagrants, the steps that the government took to help the impoverished, and how the members of
the lower class responded to aid. Throughout her article, McIntosh s sources of evidence include other
scholarly articles, census information, and population studies, but she also repeatedly cites her own
works. In her article, McIntosh reflects upon the difficulties of providing enough aid to the poor, and
she concludes this article by stating that many government officials had to figure out how to balance
genuine religious and social concern for the poor with the need to maintain order and discipline, and
how to do so without inordinate expense (479). Despite the desire to help the needy, there were many
difficulties in providing aid, and the devotion to the Great Chain of Being s strict economic divisions
prevented members of the upper class and the government from deviating from the norm and helping
the poor vagrants. McIntosh highlights that even though many tried to help the poor, there was not

Sports Agent Research Paper
Sport agents negotiate contracts for athletes. However, their responsibilities don t stop at a business
representative but also include a mentor, advisor, lawyer, and mostly a friend. Professional athletes
tend to get mixed into legal problems at some point in their career and the agents are there to take
control of the problem. Although, a sport agent may not be a lawyer, so they have their own people
that may come in and provide that certain service. Along with a professional athlete comes media

athlete, investments, sponsorships, or even in an embarrassing time where the client may not want to

The Canadian Market And The American Market
Although the Canadian market has basically five big players taking over almost 80% of the market
share, it does not mean that the competition is weak. Comparing this information to the American
market, over 20 firms divide the same 80% of the market share. The economy and consumer habits in
both countries are also very different, which causes American companies to struggle when entering the
Canadian Market. Target, the American chain turned back and left Canada after an attempt to take a
portion of the Canadian market. Currently in Canada, due to the economic turndown and weaker
currency, food prices rose signifficantly. Fruit and vegetable prices rose 9% in 2015, while meat prices
rose 5%. Naturally it would be expected to have cut back on spending, or at least a movement towards
switching to lower cost products, but it actually did not happen in Canada. In fact, food prices have
been up in every one of the last six quarters. Meanwhile, Metro s same store sales have outpaced food
inflation over five of those quarters (The Motley Fool Canada, 2016). It means that Metro has been
able to sell more groceries at higher prices in spite of record inflation levels. Loblaw and Metro, two
of the major players of the industry have seen the share prices advancing higher this year, despite a
TSX decline of over 5%. These singularities of the Canadian market might impose a barrier for

LMS are closed circuit platforms (logins, restricted access to classes), so the idea of sharing contents

understanding the difference between LMS and other computer education terms is to understand the
systemic nature of LMS. LMS is the framework that handles all aspects of the learning process. An
LMS is the infrastructure that delivers and manages instructional content, identifies and assesses
individual and organizational learning or training goals, tracks the progress towards meeting those
goals, and collects and presents data for supervising the learning process of the organization as a
whole.[7] There different learning management systems

Estrangement In Waiting For The Barbarians By David Malouf
The Post colonial genre in litterature deals with several themes such as opression, violence, and
diffrences between civilized folks and uncivilized folks. The two novels understudy are, Waiting for
the Barbarians by J.M Coetzee and Remembering Babylon by David Malouf, each published in 1980
and 1993. It principally deals with the feeling of estrangement a man can feel when he is torn apart
between his nature and his community. It is legitimate to question what leads men to wonder about the
deeds that his community pushes him to do. To what extend a community or a power can bring a man
to a complete estrangement towards his community?
Throughout the novels there are several leitmotive that conduct the two protagonists to a complete
estrangement, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This also brings the protagonists towards their estrangement.
In Malouf s novel, Gemmy is often deshumanized. Gemmy is described as being part of the other, he
is a scarecrow (3). A black ! That was the boy s first thought. We re being raided by blacks. After so
many false alarms it had come. (2). The reader is brought to see the scene through the eyes of a child,
which also emphasizes the fear. Gemmy is also referred to as it , which shows how much he is
unworthy of being referred to as a human.
Back to Coetzee s novel with the killing and tortures of an old barbarian man and his brutalized
grandson. In the book they are referred as frank and filthy (10) by the magistrate even though the
reader perceives the growing estrangement of the magistrate towards the Empire and their inhuman
deeds. There is also the scene in the book when Colonel Joll beats naked barbarians in front of the
crowd not hatred, not blood lust, but a curiosity so intense that their body are drained by it and only
their eyes live, organs of a new and ravening appetite. (115). Here the magistrate estrangement
towards the event and the empire is at its climax. Describing the scene as an act of atrocity proves that
the magistrate is completely estranged to

Olaudah Equiano And Thomas Jefferson
Plenty of early American authors used religious content or ideas for political purposes. These authors
wanted to change the political world around them through publishing works with religious content.
Two of these writers were Olaudah Equiano and Thomas Jefferson. Equiano and Jefferson crafted
letters and stories that shaped then political climate during early American times that eventually
helped to build a great nation. In the biography of Thomas Jefferson it states that he wished to be
remembered for only three things; drafting the Declaration of Independence, writing and supporting
the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom (1786), and founding the University of Virginia. Fortunate
for him that is what he remembered for to this day. As for Olaudah Equiano, he has caused a great deal
of debate as to where he grew up. There has been evidence to support him growing up in the Carolinas
and there has also been evidence to support him coming from Africa. One thing is certain that he has
produced high quality written material that is read to this day. Thomas Jefferson, born 1743 in
Virginia, was a self made man. He had many activities, such as law, and politics in addition to running
a 5,000 acre plantation that he inherited from his father. Jefferson graduated from William and Mary
College, and was a talented lawyer. Jefferson was an awful public speaker, but he was a great
diplomat, which he proved throughout his life. He then went on as a member, Secretary of State, of

Women In Ancient Greece
In ancient Greek society women were valued in one form or another, although this varied from one
region to another. Throughout time women in Greece held many different roles. They were wives,
prizes to be won, mothers, daughters, etc. Since there is little historical documentation from this time
period we must analyze authors such as Hesiod, Homer, Plutarch, and Sappho as primary sources.
During the pre archaic age women were a means to gain power, and beget children, although in some
situations their advice was taken especially in the case of priestesses and oracles. Many examples of
this can be found in Plutarch s life of Theseus. For example Plutarch tells us of Pelops the most
prominent king in Peloponnese. He goes on to say He married ... Show more content on

Hesiod s Works and Days states And he called this woman Pandora, because all they who dwelt on
Olympus gave each a gift, a plague to men who eat bread. Zeus in cooperation with the other gods
created Pandora to punish man after Prometheus gave them fire. Pandora playing the role the gods
created her for Pandora opens a jar full of all manners evil unleashing them upon the world, leaving
only hope in the jar. In this way woman is construed as the bringer of all evil. This is driven more to
the point when Hesiod says Do not let a flaunting woman coax and cozen and deceive you: she is after
your barn. The man who trusts womankind trust deceivers. He is basically stating that women are only
after your fortune and should not be trusted because they are

The Hebrew Exiles In Babylon Essay
The Hebrew Exiles in Babylon
When Jerusalem fell to the conquering Babylonians in 587 BC, most of what was important to the
Hebrew people was gone. They lost their holy city, the Temple was destroyed, and the Davidic
monarchy ended (Beasley 221). Following the destruction of Jerusalem, the Babylonian king,
Nebuchadrezzar, deported most of the population to other cities, including Babylon. These exiles
remained there for about fifty years until the Persian forces, under king Cyrus, took the city of
Babylon in 539 BC. The Persian policies concerning captured and exiled peoples were quite different
than those of the Babylonians, and because of this King Cyrus allowed the exiles to return to
Jerusalem in 538 BC to rebuild the city ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nebuchadrezzar, who had only recently become ruler of the Babylonian Empire in 604 BC, decided
that this new Babylon should surpass anything in the fallen Assyrian Empire. Many of the exiles who
were brought to Babylon were craftsmen and artisans (2 Kings 24:14,16), and so could be profitably
employed in the rebuilding and improvement of the capital city. These workmen helped to make
Babylon the most elegant of its day, and its beautiful gardens and architecture surpassed anything
previously from Assyria (Whitely 71 72). It must have been a source of great satisfaction to some of
the Hebrew exiles to know that they were an important part in the reconstruction of Babylon.
In addition to the more rural occupations, there is also sufficient evidence written in discovered
archives of the time that the Hebrew exiles were involved in the mercantile life in Babylon. Since
many of the great highways of the time converged on Babylon, thus forming it into the center of
commerce in the Near East, it is not surprising to find that some of the exiles became active in trading
and loaning in this land of traffic (Whitley 73). The Murashu tablets are a significant testimony to the
commercial activities of the Hebrews in Babylon. These personal business records from a Hebrew

Thinking During The Renaissance
The disciplines of thinking among the studies of art and science intertwine to form an understanding
from our truths. During the Renaissance, artists such as Leonardo da Vinci were students of
physiology, anatomy, and mathematics. The Baroque era furthered the study of art and science with
the influences of Galileo Galilei, Nicolaus Copernicus, and Isaac Newton to elevate humanism as
observed by the paintings of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio and others. Later in history, the
Rococo period embellished the Baroque style for a more lavish expression of playfulness among
aristocracy during an age of Enlightenment. The Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo ages advanced
disciplines of thinking in the scope of art and science by intertwining these

The Globe Theatre Research Paper
The Globe Theatre became what it is today because of its history. What was its history exactly?
Unfortunately, those are two questions many people don t have an answer to. So, what is the history?
The history of The Globe Theatre comes from a building known as The Theatre. The Theatre, had
been built by James Burbage, in Shoreditch (District in the East End of London) in 1576. The Burbage
s had a 20 year lease of the land where the theater had been built. When the lease was up, the landlord
intended on knocking the theater down. However, with the lease ending, James Burbage built the
theatre in Blackfriars as a replacement. Unfortunately the wealthy people of Blackfriars persuaded the
government to forbid its use for plays. James Burbage died in 1597. The members of the Lord
Chamberlain s Men had to rent a theater. In 1598, they decided to build a theater of their own. The
Burbage s sons got their fathers inheritance, Cuthbert and Richard, which were connected the
Blackfriars, they formed an agreement with Shakespeare and a few other actors, who became partners
for the new Globe. Each member had their own share, the two brothers, Cuthbert and Richard, got a
bigger share than the others. Each person s shares became smaller as ... Show more content on

In 1608, when the company could finally commit to James Burbage s plan, the members chose to use
both theaters, using the Globe in the summer and the roofed Blackfriars in the winter. If they had

London during this time. They were also given another choice to change to the Blackfriars for good in
1613, when the Globe burned down to the ground, its roofing had accidentally got set on fire by a
cannon during a performance of Henry VIII. However, with the importance and the sentimental value
of the theater the members decided to rebuild the Globe better than it had been

The Importance Of Perseverance
Perseverance is failing 19 times then succeeding the 20th time Julie Andrews. This means that you are
going to hit many bumps in the road but there is always times where you can push through and make
the most of their life. As defined by Dictionary.com perseverance is a steady persistence in a course of
action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. The
synonyms are Dedication , Determination , and Diligence . The antonyms for this word are Apathy ,
Cowardice , and Weakness . This is important because people need to persevere to get through life s
tough challenges and make the most of it even when times are tough. In the real world this looks like
people trying to get through the day even though money is tight. This doesn t not look like people just
sitting around not doing anything to try to help themselves if they don t have job. The first example
where perseverance is shown is that when in the book Glory Road Coach Don Haskins was
scrimmaging at college and he is left in all day with no breaks. Later when he got home he took off his
sock and the skin on the ball of his foot fell off because he ran so much. The next day he goes to the
athletic trainer s room and tapes the skin back on his feet. The second example where perseverance is
shown is when the Japanese Americans were persecuted during WWII based on their nationality and
people lost their jobs, businesses, and were left with nothing and were

Essay about Medieval Warfare
The Medieval period was a time of noblemen who fought for love, honor, and country under a code of
chivalry. Chivalry comes from the French word cheval, chivalry means someone who fights from
horseback. The term also meant knighthood .(Matthews, Platt, Thomas p.234 235). In this period the
nobility used war as a way to show their power and hold their status by being professional soldiers.
There were also lots of soldiers from the lower classes who were led into battle under nobles. These
soldiers fought for the nobleman to maintain their safety and land. The soldiers rode into battle on
their horses in full armor with weapons drawn ready to defeat their enemies one by one. They laid
siege castles for weeks and months at a time until the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were also larger weapons used to do damage to buildings and walls called siege weapons.
Among these weapons were trebuchets which were throwing machines and springalds which would
launch large projectiles at fortified walls (Prestwich p. 287) . Now that we know what weapons were
being used, it is time to look at the tactics that were involved. The archers, foot soldiers, and cavalry
all had to work together in order to make the battle go right. The army would be broken down into
three formations of which cavalry, foot soldiers, and archers were separated to attack at different times
(Verbruggen p.209) . Each of these ranks of soldiers have their own job in the battle. The archers
would usually start the battle and try to cause a break in the enemy s infantry formation. Once there
was a break in formation the infantry men would attack the lines of the enemy until the breaks in
formation got larger. Finally the cavalry men would come in on horses and wreak havoc on the enemy
s infantry. The battle must be fought like this because if the infantry was to advance first they would
meet the other infantry, and if the archers then fired they would be more likely to injure their own
troops. Or if the Cavalry was to charge first they would be met by the opposing infantry s poleaxes
and Halberds, thus killing their horses. A quick retreat was also a cause for lots of deaths in medieval
battles, because while the winning sides infantry was still attacking their cavalry

The Iliad By Homer
The Iliad is a collection of poems written by Homer describing the 10 year siege of the city of Troy by
Greeks in what is now famously known as the Trojan War. Several characters stand out in the series of
poems because of the roles they played in the war, how they behaved and the acts they took to help
eventually win the war for the Greeks (then known as Akhaians). This paper specifically investigates
the writings in Books two, four, thirteen, sixteen and seventeen and why the events in these books are
important in the overall text.
Book 2 (pg. 46 47). The author, Homer, portrays a society utilizing poetic fiction. He describes of how
humans directly talked and interacted with gods (Raaflaub 469). This can be seen in page forty six of
Book two which starts by describing a dream that Zeus (god) had sent to Agamemnon in which Zeus
promises glory in the end. The interaction with gods is also evident in page forty seven whereby a
speaker asks Zeus, Apollo and Athena to give him 10 more people to help him strategize in the war.
The author of the poem also uses items that were common hundreds of years ago such as fighting
using ships and placing the ships in the historical Trojan War (Raaflaub 471 472). Such uses are
common throughout the Iliad.
Book 4 (pg. 94 106). Here the author portrays a war that was filled with fictional and overly
exaggerated events/elements. Homer s narration of huge weapons and equally huge and strong men in
the war is strewn together with individual

College Admissions Are Pretty Simple
College admissions are pretty simple. They check your GPA and ACT/SAT test scores and see if you
match their expectations. If you do, they will take you. If you don t, they will reject you. What about if
you are stuck in the middle? What if you don t quite meet their expectations, but you don t really fall
below them? What s supposed to be a tie breaker or the cherry on top of the cake is now a very
controversial topic. Being a legacy student can have a significant impact in the admission process, if
you are one. It also gives you a huge advantage over non legacy students. Being a legacy student has
the potential of getting you admitted into the college that you want, even if you don t meet all the

Not saying that universities and colleges only do this for money, they also do this for tradition, better
reputation, loyal students, and an overall appreciation for the college of the university.
Having legacy students at the institution will greatly benefit UW by receiving donations from them.
With colleges and universities becoming businesses, the high rate of monetary support by legacies and
their parents is viewed as crucial for that institution to be financially sound and successful. Moreover,
over three quarters of legacies have a parent with a high status occupation, compared to about 62% of
students with college degree parents and less than one third of students with no degree parents. This
means that the parents of legacy students are usually wealthier than non legacies. This also means that
with wealthier parents, the chance of a donation or donations to the that college or university is most
likely to substantially increase. Moving on, legacies arrive on campus forming a distinct status group
that is characterized by an abundance of economic, cultural and social capital. With economic capital,
they are more likely to participate in activities and spend more money. And that s what colleges or
universities want, more money. By partaking in college or university activities, the student will be
grow fonder of it later on and might donate to support the institution. In the

  • 2. Joseph J Ellis Contributions Joseph J. Ellis was born on July 18, 1943; he continued to excel in school all the way through college, when he received his B.A. from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. In 1969, Ellis had earned both his Masters Degree and PhD from Yale University, yet went on to teach U.S. History at West Point. Currently, Ellis teaches at the University of Massachusetts where he inspires many students to pursue careers in historical studies; however, most of Ellis impact on the world comes from his writing. Based on his eight books, one can infer that Joseph J. Ellis has a passion for American history and the leaders that played a role to form it. Although going to school was beneficial, the fact that he lied hurt many Americans; he was ridiculed and his books lost their popularity. Bonnie Goodman of History News Network states Ellis was creating a past more worthy of his current stature and position in order to justify his actions. In an act of discipline, Mount Holyoke was forced to put Ellis on a year leave without pay. However, it was during this time off that Ellis began working on a new book entitled His Excellency, George Washington. In this book, Ellis talks about all the accomplishments of Washington, as well as his character flaws. Ellis was able to relate to Washington during this time in his life and enhanced his book by making comparisons between Washington and himself. The Corpus Christi area has two main jails to house their inmates: Nueces County Jail and McKenzie Annex. The county jail can and did house 1, 068 prisoners, maintaining 100 percent capacity. Texas averages were lower for both of these categories with 421 for drugs and 263 for driving under the influence. • 4. Research Methods Of Health And Social Care Research Methods in Health and Social Care Throughout research in Health and social care settings, there are many implications with the research, which takes place. Many research methods include ethical issues which have to be considered when conducting research. Ethical issues need to be considered when research is being conducted, in all methods of conducting the research information. One method of research is using interviews. For example, when using interviews in a care home, when conducting research, many ethical issues can be raised. Interviews not only take place face to face, but also can happen on the phone, online, through text messaging, using a video messenger and though social media. Interviews are a very useful way of collecting information because a wide range of detailed information can be collected at a large quantity. There are two types of interviews: structured or unstructured. Structured interviews are where the interviewer has already pre planned the questions that they will use in the interview. This is useful because the interview can be repeated, as the questions are standardised. Unstructured interviews are not made up of prepared questions. The interviewer will ask more open questions about board topics and then use follow up questions to gain more answers in further detail. This method of interview is time consuming however it enables the interviewee to answer questions in more detail and depth. It is possible that audio recordings can be ... In the first slide it says the streets were filled with human flesh and fat, from women, children, and adults regardless if they were a combatant or not. Another example would be the city of Riazan, it was razed to the ground and it s inhabitants were all massacred, only a few were left alive to spread the message. It s widely known that if you refused to surrender then the whole city would be massacred and raised to the ground. (Doc1 3) Doc 1 3 talks about how the Mongol army was just more than a ragtag horde of calvary. They had discipline and often implemented psychological warfare into their tactics, I.E. attacking a city non stop so the defenders get no sleep or raising a city to the ground to send a message. The mongols had a system where any deserters would either get killed or get their comrades killed in their place, or if their comrades fail to rescue them, then their comrades will get executed. ... • 6. Activity Based Costing And How It Works I chose to write about activity based costing. I chose to write this paper because I wanted to know more about activity based costing and how it works. According to our text, activity based costing (ABC) has received a lot of attention since the 90 s. ABC has a lot of more details and can be more complicated than all the other costing methods, however it s more accurate. Costing systems are information systems. They require a specific type of information such as direct labour hours and units produced, to be of value. It is from the input data that product costs and other information are determined according to the specific costing system defined methodology. The results obtained would depend on the costing system used, since the same input data could be used in different ways. In this case the traditional costing system or an activity based costing system (Marx.) A costing system should provide information to help minimize waste, but should not be wasteful in itself. In other words, the resources required to design, implement and maintain a costing system should be less than the benefit derived from the use of the system (Marx.) Activity based costing (ABC) assigns manufacturing overhead costs to products in a more logical manner than the traditional approach of simply allocating costs on the basis of machine hours. Activity based costing first assigns costs to the activities that are the real cause of the overhead. It then assigns the cost of those activities only to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction The latest global financial crisis, starting from the United States since 2007, has pushed the financial derivatives to be a hot spot. The publics usually believe that the inappropriate application of derivatives should be to blame for this, which is totally wrong. It is apparent that there is no single financial crisis resulting from only a kind of financial product. Unlike a spot contract, it does not exercise immediately after writing. This kind of derivatives is traded in the over the counter market. After entering into contract, time passes by, price of the underlying asset may change, interest rate may change, so the market price of the forward contract most likely will change. The market price of the forward contract is therefore variable, but the contract s delivery price is always the same. As to a forwards, both parties have an obligation to execute the contract at the maturity and since forwards does not require any outlay to enter, the total payoff from the contract is exactly equal to the total profit or loss of the investor from the contract. Most holders of forwards are usually hedgers who is facing potential risks. Since that, they want to use the forwards contracts to avoid the adverse price movements in the future and offset the risk exposure as much as possible. However, speculators are willing to take some risks in the markets for potential equivalent return. Usually, they use derivatives to bet on the future direction of movements in the price and mostly, their counter party is hedger, due to their exactly different expectations of price movements. Thirteen numbered pamphlets were published between 1776 and 1777, with three additional pamphlets released between 1777 and 1783. The first of the pamphlets were published in Pennsylvania Journal. Paine sees the British political and military maneuvers in America as impious; for so unlimited a power can belong only to God. Paine states that he believes God supports the American cause, that God Almighty will not give up a people to military destruction, or leave them unsupportedly to perish, who have so earnestly and so repeatedly sought to avoid the calamities of war, by every decent method which wisdom could invent .Paine takes great lengths to state that Americans do not lack force, but a proper application of that force implying throughout that an extended war can lead only to defeat unless a stable army was composed not of militia but of trained professionals. But Paine maintains a positive view overall, hoping that this American crisis can be quickly resolved, for though the flame of liberty may sometimes cease to shine, the coal can never expire. The Crisis No. 1 starts out with the famous line These are the times that try men s souls, and goes on to talk about how Britain has no right to invade America, saying that it is a power belonging only to God. • 10. The Goodyear And The Tire Industry The Goodyear name has been one of the most recognized brands in the tire industry around the world. They are known for having a superior quality product through the price and positions they have chosen. Their slogan, The best tires in the world have Goodyear written all over them, (Kerin, 2005) provides their customers with a high class message and creates an importance for them to preserve the accessibility of their high value brands. Unfortunately, consumers have become more price conscious about their tire purchases and less focused on loyalty to a specific brand. They experienced a 3.2% decline in the market share for the tires associated with passenger car replacement (Kerin, 2005). Because of this change, Goodyear has seen a drop in their sales. With already 2 million Goodyear brand tires, which have been worn out, being replaced at 850 Sears Auto Center locations annually, Goodyear reopened previous discussions with Sears to possibly sell their Eagle brand tires or all Goodyear tire brands through them. Choosing to do so could create great benefits for the company but could also generate turmoil within their franchises and other retail chains where their brands are sold. The reason behind the national attention is due to the dramatic circumstances that brought them to America. To understand these circumstances it is important to understand their history. This Law seriously violated the 1972 peace agreement, forcing the south to adopt Arab culture, language and the religion of Islam. The Nimeiry government was strengthening Sudan s ties to Egypt and Saudi Arabia, as economic hardships drew it away from the Soviet Union and closer to western nations. During the 1980 s, strikes, riots and shortages of goods and services had devastated the nation. The discovery of natural resources, such as minerals and petroleum that were discovered in the south added to the problem. Although the discovery of natural reserves should have helped Sudan s economic situation, it became another source of conflict between the north and the south over who would control it. The southern forces backed indirectly by the Soviet Union through Ethiopia reorganized into the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army and rose up against the North. At this point in the civil unrest, the war took on a religious aspect, fueled by Nimeiry s implementation of the Sharia, which is Islamic law. In 1986 a coup forced Nimeiry out of power and he was replaced by a coalition of northern political parties. • 12. Literature V And Catullus Literature from different time periods and different parts of the world has served as a mode of influencing people and sparking reform. However, sometimes pieces of literature have unknowingly influenced other modern day aspects. These similar connections may be found in other present day literary works, or films, songs, events, and just about anything. For instance, the ancient poem, Carmen 8 written by Roman poet, Catullus greatly influenced the modern day song, I Fall Apart performed by Post Malone through similar uses of egocentric tone, masculine stereotypes, battling internal conflicts, the theme of rejection, and a sense of a deranged mind. To being with, the ancestor work, Carmen 8 written by Catullus in a few words is a pep talk to himself, after an illicitly amorous affair between Catullus and a woman by the pseudo name of Lesbia suddenly ends. The poem opens with Catullus chiding himself for being too gullible and not noticing the obvious end to the affair. He describes the end as a cease of light in the lines, once there were sunlit days when you followed after where ever a girl would go... Those were the bright days gone; now she s no longer yielding, (Gregory, L. 3 8). After Catullus reminisces over his love for Lesbia, he again rebukes himself for being emasculate by weeping over a woman. Furthermore, Catullus slanders Lesbia and sneeringly rhetorically asks her what man will compliment her, claim her, and kiss her, if it is not him anymore. Catullus ends the poem reassuring himself to be firm as rock as, (Gregory, L. 17). Similar to Carmen 8, the descendant work, I Fall Apart performed by Post Malone is a reflection of a breakup. The song starts with a quick summary of the breakup, which was the girl not thinking Post Malone was sufficient for her, thus she left him suddenly and heartbroken. Post Malone goes on to reiterate the feeling of his heart breaking, and also stating that he had never loved with greater immensity in the lines, never caught a feelin this hard, harder than the liquor I pour, (Malone, L. 17 18). Moreover, Post Malone insults the girl, after he states he cannot move on from her even after everyone else but him had seen the end coming. Towards the end of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction In this era of modernization, obesity has become a common disorder affecting a large number of individuals all around the world. According to research published in 2013, one in five American deaths is now associated with obesity.[1] In fact, obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health.[10] An obese person will mount up a large amount of body fat that it might bring about negative effect on their health. Waist circumference is an easy way to check how much body fat we have and its distribution around our body. Shakur s poem In the Depths of Solitude, outlines not only many of the internal struggles that Shakur was dealing with, but the struggles that a lot of young, black men were dealing with during that particular time period. This poem is written as a dedication to himself and the only audience is him. In the poem, the speaker, Tupac himself, is, Trying 2 find peace of mind (3). McIntosh s Poverty, Charity, and Coercion in Elizabethan England highlights how the upperclass gave assistance to the lower classes because their Christian faith guided them to do so. However, A. L. Beier s Vagrants and the Social Order in Elizabethan England takes a more cynical approach to the issue of social order and argues that the poor vagrants were not given widespread assistance. Throughout her article, McIntosh s sources of evidence include other scholarly articles, census information, and population studies, but she also repeatedly cites her own works. In her article, McIntosh reflects upon the difficulties of providing enough aid to the poor, and she concludes this article by stating that many government officials had to figure out how to balance genuine religious and social concern for the poor with the need to maintain order and discipline, and how to do so without inordinate expense (479). Despite the desire to help the needy, there were many difficulties in providing aid, and the devotion to the Great Chain of Being s strict economic divisions prevented members of the upper class and the government from deviating from the norm and helping the poor vagrants. Comparing this information to the American market, over 20 firms divide the same 80% of the market share. The economy and consumer habits in both countries are also very different, which causes American companies to struggle when entering the Canadian Market.
