The Causes Of The Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis In the fall of 1962, the world sat on edge for thirteen days as the prospect of
a nuclear war between the United States and The Soviet Union became more and more legitimate. In
October of 1962, an American spy plane discovered nuclear missile launch sites being built by the
Soviet Union in Cuba, which rests only ninety miles south of Florida. The US went on to impose a
naval blockade of Cuba, making sure that no more nuclear weapons were imported into Havana
(Lebow 2000). President John F. Kennedy was tasked with the duty to remove the nuclear missiles
from Cuba while preventing a catastrophic and deadly nuclear war. Nikita Khrushchev, the leader of
the Soviet Union, longed to be seen as the powerful and authoritative figure that would be able bring
the Soviet Union to equal levels of political, military, and social prominence as the United States.
Ultimately, Khrushchev sought to maintain his political and military power and influence, and not
backing down from the all powerful United States and John F. Kennedy demonstrated to his
colleagues that he meant business. Similarly, President Kennedy was seeking re election in November
of 1962, only a month after the rising tensions. In order to be re elected, Kennedy recognized his need
to make up for the failures of the Bay of Pigs and the Vienna Summit and Kennedy became eager to
improve his current poor reputation and show the world, and more importantly US voters, his strong
willed resolve. (Lebow

What Are The Four Major Developmental Theories
Introduction
Developmental theories help teachers in many ways to enrich their teaching and student s learning
process. Therefore, it is very important teachers to apply the key ideas of these developmental theories
in their teaching career to the betterment of students.
This document will present a brief description of four major developmental theories and will focus on
how these theories can be applied in my real teaching world as a middle school teacher. Four major
developmental theories
Though many theorists have brought the study of human development, there are about four major
important theories that are in use effective (Oswalt, Major Child Development Theories and Theorists,
2007). They are:
Freud s theory of psychosexual development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Piaget s stages of cognitive development theory
Jean Piaget has brought a cognitive developmental theory with four stages;
Sensorimotor (birth to 2 years), Preoperational (2 to 7 years), Concrete operational (7 to 11 years), and
formal operational (12 years to adulthood). In
Piaget s view, throughout these four stages all children develop their thinking according to how they
see the world around them (Oswalt, Jean Piaget and Child Development
, 2007).
Lawrence Kohlberg s theory of moral development
In Kohlberg s moral development theory, he discussed about the process which people learn how to
identify and differentiate what is right and what is wrong.
In his theory, he presented main three levels with total six stages. They

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Ideology Of Self Identity
In the essay, Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson s ideology of self identity is impractical today
because the media has hindered society from developing our true identities. The use of social media is
ruining this generation s real life social skills. According to Social Media Today, an online community
for professionals, The amount of time people spend on social media is constantly increasing. Teens
now spend up to nine hours a day on social platforms, while 30% of all time spent online is now
allocated to social media interaction. Texting or online communications does not allow people to truly
express themselves for who they truly are. There is a loss of social and personal development
communicating through social media. For instance, people online are unable to use body language,
tone, voice and facial expressions through a text. An article on The Telegraph, pointed out that One in
four people spend more time socialising online, using sites such as Facebook, than they do in person,
according to research. The study also found that even when there is an opportunity to see people face
to face, on weekends for example, up to 11% of adults still prefer to stay at home and communicate on
their devices instead. (USA Today). The problem with socialising online is that affects a person s
ability to communicate properly in face to face interactions. The person will feel a sense of social
anxiety and not project their voice loud enough for their audience to hear them. For

Hydranths Feeding Habits
During the lab on Tuesday this week, we learned how to feed Cordylophora. We also observed the
feeding habits of the Cordylophora carefully. While observing the feeding, I focused on one particular
hydranth with 18 tentacles that captured and ingested 8 Artemia. Meanwhile, a hydranth of similar
size with 15 tentacles caught no brine shrimp, even though many passed by it within reach. This lead
to the question of why some hydranths feed while others do not. I would like to determine if there is a
specific reason as to why some hydranths fed and others did not. Does the relative size of the
hydranths cause different feeding habits? Do hydranths rotate which ones feed in a logical manner or
is it entirely random? The specific materials I need

Essay On Pertussis
1.0 Introduction
This paper discusses the condition pertussis with regard to its prevalence in Australia and the United
States. It also explores prevention methods currently recommended by leading organisations. Despite
a reduction of mortality linked to pertussis, it remains a health concern worldwide (WHO, 2010).
2.0 Definition of pertussis
Pertussis, also referred to as whooping cough, is a bacterial infection affecting the upper respiratory
tract (Pluta, Lynm, Glass, 2010). Caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacterium, this disease is most
commonly diagnosed in unvaccinated young children. The infection is characterised by a long lasting
wet cough, paroxysms of coughing, a whooping sound on inspiration (Pluta et al., 2010), and often
vomiting following the coughing (Bentley, Pinfield, Rouse, 2013). The bacteria are transmitted by
airborne droplets released when infected individuals sneeze or cough and, consequently, the infection
is highly contagious (Chivima, 2011). Pertussis has a 7 10 day incubation period and the disease can
last from 6 8 weeks and is therefore notably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They can determine whether patients require vaccinations through access to medication records or
inferred diagnosis made when reviewing prescription records (Bach Goad, 2015). Their traditional
role is distributing medication, but they may also provide immunisations, such as the Tdap vaccine
which is supplied by pharmacies in 43 states in the U.S. (Mills, Fensterheim, Taitel, Cannon, 2014).
By supplying vaccines, pharmacies make immunisation more convenient by providing a solution to a
significant barrier for immunisation, this being ease of access (Mills et al., 2014). In addition, they
may also be involved in educating their community on available vaccines and where to go to obtain
them, further reducing this barrier in the local community (Bach Goad,

Overcoming Cross Cultural Differences Of Communication
Overcoming cross cultural differences in communication at Tearroir
单丝不成线,独木不成林
A single thread cannot become a cord, and a single tree does not make a forest. This Cheng Yu is
about cooperation and being part of a larger whole. Its roots stem from Confucian beliefs of organized
society through togetherness. This is in stark contrast to the emphasis placed on individualism in some
Western countries.
Introducton
Tearroir is a global tea brand that sources premium loose leaf tea from 7 countries. The need to
overcome cross cultural difference in communication is a major issue in achieving affective
knowledge transfer and performance in today s globalised world (Holden, Von Kortzfleisch, 2004,
pp127). Knowledge evolves as both organisations and individuals adapt to internal/external
environments, it is one of the most important assets for any organisation (Rivera Vazquez, Ortiz
Fournier, Flores, 2009, pp257). Cross cultural differences are never more of a barrier to successful
communication inl business than in the case of verbal and non verbal communication (McShane,
Olekalns, Travaglione, 2010, pp367). Tearroir s mission statement is the best teas on Earth for this to
be realised we need to be effective communicators with people from varied cultural backgrounds.
Cross cultural communication issues often occur because people react to situations based on beliefs,
values and expectations of their own culture, the examples of face and guan xi will be discussed in the
paper.

We have the luxury of electricity today. Unfortunately, she did not have any electricity.
Most homes at that time would contain several oil lamps and the inside of the home was about as dim
as a 40 watt light bulb.
Still she did not take a lax attitude towards her lost possession. She knew if she was going to find this

1. You have to stay focused. She did not allow the lighting in the house to stop her. She was not
focused on how dim the house may have been. Her mindset was to find the coin.
2. Use what you got. There is a time when you will not have all the tools you feel you need. It should
not cause you to give in. This woman did not have proper lighting, but she stayed focused and worked

If you are going to find your way out, maybe, you will have to sweep your house clean.
The woman swept the house. She uses her broom to reach into corners and under tables, areas where
she could not see. Something you must go beyond the normal.

Analysis Of Bacon Rebellion
Brice Everson Mrs. Blomme Honors I 30 September 2014 Bacon s Rebellion The definition of
courage as defined by Dictionary.com is the ability to do something that frightens one. A rebellion
takes courage. It s not something the average human being can do. One cannot simply expect just
anyone to verbally stand up for what they believe is right. Courage is not something found in a
common human being. Sure, everyone has it somewhere deep down, but as for that select group of
people who aren t afraid to stand up for what they believe is right: They are the ones that make a
difference. Nathaniel Bacon wasn t by any means a great man but he definitely wasn t afraid to take
charge of a situation that involved him, directly or indirectly, and stand up for himself. He was the
type of relentless figure that made a difference in history because he had one thing we all strive to
have: Courage. Bacon s Rebellion, also known as the Virginia Rebellion, took place in Jamestown,
Virginia in 1676. Bacon s Rebellion was probably one of the most confusing yet intriguing chapters in
Jamestown s history (McCulley). This rebellion is considered to be the first stirring of revolutionary
sentiment in America,...(McCulley). It is still disputed by historians today about whether the attack by
Nathaniel Bacon on the governor of Virginia, Sir William Berkeley, was justified or not. It all started
in 1675, during the Susquehannock War. Many Virginians disagreed on the

Myasthenia Gravis Case Analysis
Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disease of the neuromuscular junction which usually causes
muscle weakness and other problems. Some of the people who have Myasthenia Gravis experience
respiratory failures. It s very crucial that these patients stay away from interventions that might worsen
the disease process. In 2014 a 62 year old woman with a history of metastatic thymic carcinoma and
myasthenia gravis came to the emergency room in Houston, Texas. For two days this lady had been
experiencing weakness, difficulty swallowing, and shortness of breath. They admitted her into the
intensive care unit because she had the symptoms of a myasthenia crisis. That evening they ran a test
and there was a substantial decrease in the patient s vital capacity. The patient wouldn t agree to be
intubated or ventilated. On the third day in the ICU the patient was granted a trial of non invasive
ventilation, but this did not improve her condition. So finally she agreed to be intubated ... Show more

She felt as if her symptoms of difficulty swallowing, weakness, and hoarseness were getting worse.
Her vision was also getting worse. She was given another plasma transfusion and the symptoms were
resolved. She was transferred from the ICU at day 7 and released 3 days later.
I actually understood this article a lot more than the others minus the parts where it would talk about
certain medications and certain amounts of the medication. I feel as if it s very sad that we can t cure
myasthenia gravis. I feel bad that people have to live with this and there s nothing they can do besides
taking medication daily for the rest of their life unless they want to have flare ups and symptoms. This
disease would affect everyday life especially if you were having a flare up. You would feel as if you
couldn t walk or as if you were too heavy to walk. Back whenever I lived in Manila I grew up very
closely to my neighbors Mr. Walker and Mrs. Julie.

The Role Of Journalism And Democracy And What Is The Most...
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF JOURNALISM IN DEMOCRACY AND WHAT IS THE MOST
POWERFUL CURRENT THREAT TO THAT ROLE?
Journalism and democracy are arguably inextricably intertwined concepts, each having a vital role in
the effective function of the other. Democracy as a term and an inherent notion finds it origins from
Ancient Greece with the term being derived from the Ancient Greek words demos people and kratia
power (The Daily Miracle: An Intriduction to JOuranlism p. 45). Traditionally, journalism has been
considered to play an integral role as somewhat of a gatekeeper of democracy by promoting and
upholding the democratic societal values upon which countries such as Australia have been built. This
role was first classified as the Fourth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accordingly, arguably the most powerful threat to Four Corners role in promoting and upholding
democracy in Australia is the Executive s constant threats to cut network funding. This can be
explored through looking through the lense of the libertarian and social responsibility arms of the
theory of the press developed by Fred Siebert, Theodore Peterson and Wilbur Schramm (whatever the
book is (1956)) and the propaganda model developed by Herman and Chomsky (Manufacturing
Consent, 1988).
Cutting funding threatens the ABC s and thus Four Corners ability to uphold the values of democracy
in Australia on the basis of the libertarian model of the theory of the press
This is on the basis that the loss of 400 jobs and funding to the ABC (http://about.abc.net.au/our abc
our future/) could have dire consequences on Four Corners ability to fulfil their vital and important
roles to produce quality investigative reports that serve the public interest. The libertarian model is one
of the four facets of the theory of the press developed by Fred Siebert, Theodore Peterson and Wilbur
Schramm (whatever the book is (1956)). The model argues that the press resembles an open
marketplace of ideas,

The Valuable Lessons Of Sookan s Character
Throughout the book Sookan has learned many valuable lessons, but one of the lectures she has
learned seems to loom in her improved personality. She transformed herself into a selfless adult, she
turned responsible and giving. She learned how to feel, care, and love like a true person should, like
how every person should...
In the commencement of the novel Sookan was briefly oblivious of the circumstances or sentiments of
the people surrounding her. She was considerably selfish and frankly a sort of self obsessed. This is
not indicating that Sookan was not an outstanding person, forth she was. But she simply was not
exposed to the cruel planet, and all of the terrible aspects of the land. For example when the sock girls
were hard at work Sookan hankered to talk to the girls not even crossing her mind of their unfortunate
circumstances. When I might be able to talk to my favorite sock girls (Choi 11)... Sookan was not able
to comprehend their arduous predicaments, but she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

free. They had a guide, everything had gone just as planned, all seemed right, but then their mother got
stopped and taken away on their grand travel to the south. Sookan recognized what she had to

mother behind, she sensed and knew so accurately that she had to do this to survive. No matter how

c) Formal Analysis
First Movement
Although a typical first movement form has features that are very close to a sonata form, the analysis
shown in Appendix traces through the keys and theme areas with respect to the necessary T1, S1 etc
terminology that invokes the 1st movement form which is an extended version of a da capo aria or a
rounded binary form. However, presented below, is a rough guideline for seeing which measures
would correspond to a sonata form outline:
T1 S1 T2: 1 111 227
Exposition
S2: 249
Development
(288 308 as re transition)
T3 S3 T4 (first section up to the cadence): 309 318 403
Recapitulation
(Cadenza)
T4: 417
Coda
Theme wise, the first movement is mostly bases itself on the opposition of two themes, one military in
character (denoted hereafter by a and its variants a1, a2 a3 etc)
and another lyrical theme, (denoted hereafter by b). It is clear when one looks at the outline of the
themes with respect to their placement, theme a is transformed into 8 different versions throughout the
composition s first movement, and an additional type, that we will call (a) which utilizes C G C G C
timpani like motive. This one, namely (a) and a derivative called a6 will play primary roles in
identifying and linking structurally important keys and harmonic motions related to changes into
different subsections (eg. Timpani theme appears from 288 295 into T3/S3 on minor v,

Anti-Heroism In One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
Ken Kesey, the author of One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, was inspired to write his novel from his
time working as an orderly at a mental health facility. He often experimented with LSD and his
documented drug use provided a realistic perspective of a mental patient. It is almost as if Kesey is an
anti hero himself; in order to achieve a different point of view, being that of a mental patient, and write
a spectacular book, he broke the law by taking drugs. Ken Kesey portrayed the main character,
McMurphy, as an anti hero. Throughout the essay, different aspects of McMurphy s anti heroism will
be explored by comparing the character with other fictional anti heroes, such as Achilles, Jack
Sparrow and Huckleberry Finn. In One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, R.P. McMurphy is portrayed as
an anti hero, as he chose to live his mortal life on his own terms, opposed to sticking by the rules of
society. The excessive pride and self confidence that McMurphy possessed, knowing that no one could
stop him, lead to his eventual downfall, similar to the life of Achilles. It appeared as though
McMurphy and Achilles were immortal, yet what made them human was the certainty that they would
one day die. As Achilles once stated everything is more beautiful because we re doomed . McMurphy
was able to escape a Chinese prison and break Nurse Ratched and Achilles is known as one of the
greatest Greek warriors. Both of the characters actions create the impression they were unstoppable;
although they were eventually conquered by death, both seemingly for a cause. These characters had
different intentions; Achilles chose death over life in order to gain the glory of being remembered
forever, whereas McMurphy died for the men in the institute. Nurse Ratched baits McMurphy to
breaking point, providing an excuse for his lobotomy. She does this in order to retain her power but by
the time McMurphy dies, she had lost her power in the process due to his actions. This realisation is
what freed the boys. McMurphy is portrayed as an anti hero, much like Achilles, as he died for a
cause, which was for the patients to realise that Nurse Ratched didn t necessarily hold all the power.
McMurphy is portrayed as an anti hero as he is a many sided man,

Metric System Research Paper
How many 16ths of an inch are in a mile? How many fluid ounces in a cubic inch? What is the
conversion factor between degrees celsius and degrees Fahrenheit? These are some of the terrible
questions that plague only the minds of people in three countries in the world: the United States of
America, Myanmar, and Liberia. All 193 of the other countries in the world use the metric system. The
United States of America should convert to the metric system because of the following reasons: it is
the global and scientific standard, it is much easier to use, not using it causes US consumers and
businesses to lose money, and our lack of familiarity with it is part of the reason why our students lag
so far behind much of the rest of the world in STEM ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this occurred in 1999 when the NASA spacecraft Orbiter burned up in the Martian
atmosphere due to a conversion error. This was caused because one of the Lockheed Martin engineers
tried to use the US customary (imperial) system while all the other engineers used the metric system
(SI) This eventually caused the $125,000,000 orbiter to miss its proper orbit and burn up in the
atmosphere of mars (NASA). Although losses due to conversion errors on this magnitude are rather
uncommon, there are still other ways in which not using the metric system that can cause US
consumers and business to lose money, When selling a product, the seller needs to have sufficient
demand for their product in order to justify the cost of production. One way to increase the profit is to
start mass producing the product. This is because mass producing can significantly reduce the cost per
item to produce a product. However when there is insufficient demand for a product to mass produce
the profit margin will substantially decrease, and the price of the item for consumers will need to be
increased to maintain the cost of operations for the company making the product. This means that
because the US uses a different measurement system than the rest of the world and has different sizes
of products, that any business that makes things for our country has fewer potential buyers and a
higher cost to make each item. This means that if that business converted to the metric system that
they could potentially increase their sales by a factor of 31. Along with increasing business profits,
changing to the metric system would lead to cheaper prices for all consumers because businesses
would not need to have both metric and special US customary equipment thus, lowering the operating
costs of the

The Issue Of Gay Marriage
Gay marriage, something that has increasingly been on the news, is talked about in chapter five.
Lambda Legal Defense eve talks about how they will enforce gay marriage through the manipulation
of the courts. The whole trend started in 1996 in Hawaii, with a ruling there saying theres no reason to
ban gay civil marriages. The biggest problem, is that this is not the job of the Supreme Court Justices
to decide, but elected representatives. In 20 years, the Supreme court has decided in two cases
addressing constitutionality of state sodomy in Bowers v. Hardwick and Lawrence v. Texas. In Romers
v. Evans, it ruled on a state constitution amendment. William F. Buckley wrote a response where in
summary he is declaring the Supreme Court has no right to be in the bedroom of Americans. Having
government involved in any personal matter is hazardous. The debate over which branch of
government gets to decide how, when, and why it can be there(Levin.73) this is saying that the
government will enforce themselves in our privacy on other issues besides gay relationships and
contraceptives. New York times ran an article talking about sodomy laws, and how they are rarely
enforced due to not being able accurately prove anything, and also the time it would take to search for

Dj Kol Herc Research Paper
Clive Campbell, better known by his stage name DJ Kool Herc, is a Jamaican American DJ who often
threw block parties in the early 1970 s in one of the most impoverished areas of New York City, the
South Bronx . At these party s Herc created rhythmic beats by looping the breaks in songs. Later these
same beats would be accompanied by rap , a rhythmic style of chanting poetry which is often
presented in 16 bar measures or time frames (Thompson). Herc is often regarded as the father of hip
hop music because what started out as just block party music turned into a cultural movement for
many young African American youths. The music in different eras represents a sort of time machine
into what ideas and problems are wrong with society, thus bringing them to the attention of the masses
and getting them solved. Hip Hop music took a progressive approach to this by presenting big issues
and problems that have affected minorities and society in general. By doing this Hip Hop has resolved

Pilate As A Positive Figure In The Bible
The Bible is interpreted in many different ways. Depending on who wrote the chapter, when the story
was written, and it depends on the person who is reading the story. All of these factors contribute to
how we read the Bible. Depending on the context of the situation, Pilate may be portrayed as a
negative, neutral, or positive figure in the Bible. Warrens Carter s book, Pontius Pilate: Portraits of a
Roman Governor, states, Gundry sees the first sign of this Christianizing in Matthew s presentation
when Pilate asks the crowd if they want to release Jesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Christ?
(Carter 9). This source claims that Pilate is one of the first Christians and makes an effort to save Jesus
from being crucified. I argue that Pilate is seen as a negative figure in the Bible because The standard
way of thinking about Pilate s role as a figure in the Bible has it that Pilate is seen as a positive figure.
Pilate is the governor and holds most of the power, he is aware of Jesus s innocence before crucifying
him, and he is naïve to think that his hands are cleaned of Jesus s blood.
Pilate is seen as a negative character because of many different reasons. Pilate is not a normal citizen
of Judaea; he was the governor. He had the power to approve or disapprove any decision the city
wanted to make. Some sources claim that Pilate did not want to start a riot or that he fell into peer
pressure, but a strong leader should have been able to stand up for the right

Studies by both Brand and Preston (2009) and Aamaas et al (2013) found high earners to produce the
most CO2 from their travel, with the latter concluding high income people travel... more and have a...
higher climate impact than low income people . More specifically this study shows the highest earners
to have an impact on climate 250% greater than that of the lowest. The reason being individuals with
large disposable incomes are more able to afford flights, drive more and generally travel further.
With specific reference to flying and driving, both studies also found high earners to be the largest
emitters of CO2. Brand and Preston (2009) highlight data from the CAA (2005) that shows average
household incomes of people using Stanstead airport to be much higher than the national average.
Further analysis might show this is exacerbated by the types of vehicle wealthier individuals might
drive. For example cars in tax band M (UK s highest emitting / 250g per km +) are almost all luxury
vehicles, with prices ranging from 32K + (Lane, 2014), well beyond the reach of lower income
earners.

From my 3 day dietary report, I found out that my average intake of Alpha Tocopherol, otherwise
known as vitamin E, is far from my goal intake. Based on the analysis, my goal daily intake should be
15 mg but my actual intake is 3.22 mg, which is far from enough. In this paper, I will analyze the
reason for my low intake and how to change this situation by improving my diet. Looking at my daily
intake, I realize I have only been consuming one third of what I should be having of vitamin E.

In my current diet, there is a sufficient lack of fresh vegetables, which are high in vitamin E. Since
most of the food I ate are either deep fried or cooked with high heat in the cooking process (for
example vegetable stew), the heat destroys vitamin E. Firstly, I can change my way of eating
vegetables from cooked product to salads. Salad dressing and shortening are high in Vitamin E, and
they are easily found in the school cafeteria. Salad with dressing can provide me with most of the
vitamin E I need, 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise made from safflower contains 3.0 mg of it and 1 teaspoon
of canola oil contains 2.4 mg. Vegetables themselves also contain vitamin E, if I have salad twice a
day that will take up to half of what is needed everyday. Another reason I am not getting enough is
because I eat a lot of white bread and white long grained rice, which all have the grain germ removed
during production. However, wheat germ is a good source of vitamin E; therefore, if I switch from
white bread to whole wheat bread and white rice to brown rice, it will increase my vitamin E intake.
Since 30 grams of wheat germ contain 6 mg of vitamin E, by introducing them into my diet I will
make up the other half of my daily need for it. As for snacks, I could start eating more nuts since they
only contribute to a small amount, it will make up for days where intakes are

Examples Of Heroism In The Book Of Exodus
The Book of Exodus is the story of the Israelite s escape from slavery through the leadership of Moses
and power of God. Moses demonstrates numerous heroic characteristics throughout the Book of
Exodus as he leads the Israelites to freedom. As defined by Professor of Classics at Rutgers University
Lowell Edmunds, a hero is a man, often of divine ancestry, [and] favored by the gods. In addition,
Edmunds continues the definition of a hero as one who is endowed with great courage and
strength...especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. Under this definition, we can draw
significant parallels between Moses s life and a traditional hero s life. God chooses and favors Moses;
he is born into a divine line, and also granted great powers to aid him in his journey. In addition, he
uses his God given strength to lead and protect the Israelites. Lastly, Moses sacrifices his life to fulfill
his heroic responsibility, despite his original hesitations. These aspects of Moses life and traits reflect
significantly on his persona and prove his heroism. From birth, Moses heroic destiny is clear. He is
born into a family lineage of divine power and knowledge, and then Pharaoh raises him. Although his
biological mother put [him] in [a basket] among the reeds at the river s brink, he is well aware of his
roots throughout his early life. This knowledge significantly affects his actions, which reflect his
inherent heroism. Before God confronts Moses, he sees an

Research Paper On Shintoism
Shintoism is one of the two major religions in Japanese culture. The word shinto literally means the
way of the kami , or, the way of the Gods . Kami are probably the most important part of this religion,
as it s entirely based on pleasing them. Kami are spirits that are more superior than those on Earth.
Shinto followers try their hardest to please the kami and hopefully become something or someone
better in their afterlife. It is the largest and most popular religion alongside Buddhism in Japan. The
mythology of Shintoism is probably the next most important, as it supports the kami and it gives the
followers something to believe in. Shintoism overall is a very important part of everyday religions and

This list is even longer than the first and this is generally where followers imagine their ancestors to
lay in. One of the Gods, Yato, the God of wishes, is generally used in many folktales and some horror

World Religions ).
There are more than 130 shrines in Japan alone for Shintoism. This is where the Shinto followers go to
respect their Kami and basically worship them. Shintoism followers perform many rituals for their
Kami to show respect and to be able to connect with them. For example, most of these rituals involve
purification, (says Littleton, Shinto ) which is the cleansing of the person and the object being used to

The other most important Kami, (most communicated with) are Amaterasu, the sun goddess , also the
greatest of all Kami. There s also Benten, another goddess involved in the arts, Ebisu, who brings

god of the wind. There is also Tenjin, a god of education (

Karen Horney Was One Of The First Noted Female Psychoanalyst
Karen Horney was one of the first noted female psychoanalyst theorist who, along with Alfred Adler,
formed the Neo Freudian discipline. She did not agree that individuals are ruled by their repressed
sexual passions and with many of Freud s other theories. Her theory on personality put more emphasis
on the individual s childhood experiences and the social and cultural aspects that affect them. In order
to explain a person s personality, Horney developed the theory of neurosis. In it she listed the ten basic
neurotic needs, how people coped with life, and she looked at self realization versus self idealization .

graduated with a degree in economics in 1968. After he graduated he joined the family business and
moved to Manhattan where he tried to grow it beyond what his father had done. Using Horney s
theory we can examine the early years of Trump s life. Of the ten basic neurotic needs Trump strongly
shows the need for power, the need for social recognition, and the need for personal achievement
(Horney, 1942). As Horney s theory emphasizes childhood experiences, we can see how a child who
grew up in a big family that was affluent would want power and social recognition. He grew up
needing to compete with his siblings for his parents attention and by watching his father he believed
that success in his career was the best way to achieve personal success. Lots of Trump s actions
pointed to him trying to fill his need for social recognition: he was a star athlete, a student leader, and
he was known for being cocky. In Horney s book, Neurosis and Human Growth, she says feeling at

Searching For Meaning in Apocalypse Now Essay
Searching For Meaning in Apocalypse Now
Francis Ford Coppola s film Apocalypse Now takes the audience into a tense and mystical journey
through the Vietnam War. This long and agonizing journey is seen through the eyes of Captain Willard
played by Martin Sheen. Sheen. Captain Willard is assigned to a mission that relies on him to
assassinate Colonel Kurtz, who is played by Marlon Brando. Although Apocalypse Now is an
examination of the many terrors of society that are connected to the Vietnam War, Coppola plays
much of his film off Joseph Conrad s novel The Heart of Darkness. Conrad s story focuses on Captain

Elliot. Coppola uses this poem to share his feelings of how meaningless the Vietnam War, and this
film is very much a protest against the Vietnam War. Kurtz begins by reciting the beginning of the
poem as We are the hollow men. We are the stuffed men. Leaning together, Headpiece filled with
straw. Of course the beginning of the poem explains how men are full in their heads, but it is of a
meaningless substance as compared to straw. The straw in the man s head could be interpreted as the
lies of the Vietnam war, and it is also lies that Kurtz hates the most. Coppola is making a huge
statement here about the war. American soldiers and part of the country itself,(those being in favor of
the Vietnam War), are the hollow men. They went to Vietnam thinking they were going to fight against
Communism and thought they could win the war, but the war was filled with lies in the way the
government organized it, and because it was filled with such lies, it was a meaningless war.
The first twelve lines of the poem then concludes with Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralyzed force, gesture without motion: Again, this is voidness of anything meaningful or with a true
desire. The shape without form is the lack of Americans to have any kind of structure in the operation
of the war, and it was a colorless war because it was missing a righteous cause linked with ambition.

The Pregnancy Of The Fetal Heart Rate
As technology progresses, it has become more important in our daily lives. Obstetricians and hospital
s rely on technology more than ever to flag potential problems during pregnancy, labor, and delivery
(1). Continuous recording of the fetal heart rate come into being in the 1970 s and is likely a big
contributor to the increase in Caesarean sections(1). Continuous monitoring allows doctors to make a
decision on what birthing method should be used: natural birth or caesarean. The benefits of natural
birth outweigh the risks of a Caesarean section to mother and baby. Pregnancy occurs when a sperm
and egg unite, this is called conception. A zygote is created, in one week the zygote attaches itself on
the uterine wall, and in two weeks becomes an embryo. Week 10 of pregnancy the embryo turns into a
fetus. The fetus develops more and more for 28 weeks. Around 39 40 weeks, a woman can go into
labor. Labor is when the mother starts having contractions, and the baby s head starts dropping into the
cervix. The cervix dilates and thins out. As the cervix is fully dilated at 10 centimeters the mother
beings pushing. Vaginal birth entails less discomfort after delivery (9). Vaginal birth babies can go
home with their babies sooner (9). Vaginal births take roughly one or two weeks for recovery (1).
During natural birth the baby gets a squeeze. This forces mucus and fluid out of the baby s airway.
With the Caesarean, the baby does not get the beneficial squeeze like vaginal

Imperialization Of Greek Civilization
Very few civilizations have had as profound an influence on the world as those of ancient Greece. The
Greeks laid the foundations for fields varying from philosophy to political theory to war tactics.
However, this influence was not just due to their intelligence or success, but their widespread presence
in the Mediterranean. Greek culture was spread throughout their known world in two distinct manners,
the foundation of apoikia in the Archaic Age (8th century to 500 B.C. ) and imperialists by poleis,
primarily Athens of the Classical Age (490 323 B.C ). Though the culture of a mother city
(mētropolis) may have spread through two very different manners of colonization. The word is not
used in the literal sense, but rather hereafter used to mean spreading of culture , as the former can
hardly be described using the contemporary definition of colonization and the latter was through
Athenian empire building. These developments had a significant impact on ancient Greece and our
modern perception thereof. Like most of the ancient world, we can best analyze these methods of
colonialism through extant artifacts. I will analyze an inscription of the foundation oath of Cyrene,
which recounts the decision and manner in which the island of Thera sent its citizens to the form a
new polis, and the fragments of the Lapis Primus, a marble monolith that documented tributes to
Athens when the city was at the peak of its imperial age, evidencing the magnitude of their power and
influence in the Greek region. The Cyrene inscription is a short oath from the 4th century B.C. that
describes, from three centuries prior, the Theran rationale behind forming Cyrene, the manner in
which they undertook this expedition, and their perception of the newly formed city. The inscription
claims that Apollo spontaneously ordered the Therans to send a group of people to Libya in order to
form a colony, with their citizen Battos as the king. The Theran assembly decided to send one son
from each household, who was in the prime of life, 4 along with any free man who desired to leave, to
colonize Cyrene. The assembly threatened anyone who resisted departure with the death penalty and a

of the different types of racing in the game, Go Karts are real fun and thrilling way to hit the tracks.
This project explores the distinct advantages that Go Kart should have in today s sports, the design
features needed to build a Go Kart, and how to stay safe in this fun motorsport.

There are many manufacturers and variants of Go karts models in the market. However there are
fewer models which can satisfy different tastes and requirements.

makes the vehicles light weighted. This material is sturdy and trouble free from cracks and other

The Death Of Marat
Sydney Hamer English 1030 Stukes Project 1 January 27, 2015 One of the most breathtaking and
fascinating ways someone can author something for me is a piece of art. Whether it is a sculpture,
architecture or a painting it can be very moving. Many details go into a piece of art that can make one
feel someway that one may not feel from reading a book or listening to a song. Throughout history
artists of all types have used their talents to persuade or inform people. The painting The Death of
Marat by Jacques Louis David was created in 1793 (Park). Jacques Louis David used his skills as an
artist to author the scene of the death of Jean Paul Marat, which had the power to inspire people to
make a change in the country of France for the better, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the Boston College art history website they describe how David also uses some of the techniques
of light and dark similar to the Entombment of Christ by Caravaggio. The light is softer as it hits
Marat s face and the light is harsher as it hits the weapon to accentuate the tragedy of the murder.
David also keeps some of Marat s body in shadow that allows for the viewer to feel compassion and
outrage at different parts of the painting (Neo Classicism). David using the medium of painting was
very important in his message reaching a lot of people. In the 18th century there was no radio or
television so there was limited ways to get information to a large amount of people. Nowadays one
could tweet something and it can literally reach the world. David had the twitter of the 18th century,
art. David using paint was the appropriate way in that time period to successfully complete his goal of
persuading and informing people of the horrible murder and his

Why Lobsters Is Wrong
We all enjoy eating lobsters because of their freshness and richness in meat. Here are some fun facts
about lobsters. Lobsters used to be considered low class food before 1800s. In early America, there
were laws that prohibited feeding lobsters to inmates because eating lobsters was deemed too
inhumane. It was similar to feeding rats to people. Lobsters used to be categorized as low class food
because there were so many lobsters in old New England that one source described it with
unbelievable abundance . On the other hand, in modern days, lobsters are thought to be a type of
luxury food due to their richness in meat. The most conventional method to cook a lobster is to boil it.
You put the lobster into a large kettle and boil it for about 10 minutes. Keep in mind that the lobster
has to be alive when it is initially put into the kettle to maintain its freshness. However, is it ethical to
boil a living animal to death just to enjoy its freshness? We now have reached the very controversial
topic; it is very unclear whether lobsters are able to feel pain or not. In 2003 MLF Quiz program, it
was stated that the nervous system of a lobster is highly similar to that of a grasshopper; there is no
cerebral cortex which allows it to feel pain. When you put a lobster into a boiling ... Show more

Some people put a knife point first into a certain spot between the eyestalks. The idea is to kill the
lobster instantly to prevent it from experiencing terrible pain. Although it is a very violent way to
prepare a lobster, it is considered merciful by many cooks. However, a lobster s nervous system work
off several nerve bundles, not one. Putting a knife in between the eyestalks does not necessarily
decrease the amount of pain the lobster suffers. On the other hand, some people simply microwave
lobsters alive after poking holes in their carapace. Certain chefs cut the lobsters in half and rip their
claws and tails off before throwing them into

Robert Van Gulik
Through a thrilling murder mystery blended with action, romance, and suspense, Robert van Gulik
captures the fascinating culture of Tang China and its political and social life. Van Gulik s novel
incorporates diverse characters with varying roles in Tang society, allowing for a more expansive view
of the social expectations and perspectives of people of all social classes. ALTHOUGH THE

However, the popular beliefs of the Tang Dynasty that shaped the people s social expectations and
behavior as depicted in The Willow Pattern is arguably the most effective at making the novel a viable
representation of the time period. This factor is not only prevalent in the characters actions, but it also
has a prominent effect on the development of the novel s plot. Mrs. Mei, the murderer of her husband
Mr. Mei and the cause of the central conflict of the novel, reveals to have committed this crime out of
selfish desires during her trial under Judge Dee she explains that her lust for power and an escape
from the constraints of the patriarchal system, actions that go against the ideal Confucian woman s
expectation of obedience and reverence for her husband, was her motive for her crime. Mrs. Mei,
although sentenced by the court to death, dies of illness, representing how her defiance from her social
expectations results in her own downfall. On the other hand, Bluewhite and Coral, although they also
commit murder, are spared of punishment by Judge Dee due to their endeavor of honoring their
parents and protecting their family. The twins exhibit the traits of ideal Confucian daughters, and in
turn, are rewarded for upholding their social duties.

AQ 2.1
There are no advantages to accountants focusing only on financial information. Both the accountant
and the organization would suffer if this occurred. Moreover, it would be very costly to have two
systems rather than one that captures and processes operational facts at the same time as it captures
and reports financial facts.
The main disadvantage of accountants focusing only on financial information is that accountants
would ignore much relevant information about the organization s activities. To the extent that such
non financial information (e.g., market share, customer satisfaction, measures of quality, etc.) is
important to management, the value of the accounting function would decline. Moreover, accountants
have been trained in how to design systems to maximize the reliability of the information produced. If
relevant information is not produced by the AIS, there is danger that the information may be unreliable
because the people responsible for its production have not been trained in, or adequately aware of, the
potential threats to reliability and the best measures for dealing with those threats.

Gender Differences In Art Analysis
Two artworks, made of dissimilar mediums, may seem to be complete opposites, but when their
content is closely analyzed prove to be very comparable. Untitled #228, created by Cindy Sherman is
a seven foot tall photograph in which she depicts herself in the biblical story of Judith beheading
Holofernes, a subject commonly portrayed by Italian Baroque artists. The photograph could easily be
mistaken for an oil painting, displaying characteristics you may see in the female figures of a
Botticelli painting. The drapery in the background could be taken from the Grande Odalisque, a
painting that depicts a nude woman in a harem. These historical references create contrast between
new and old, and serve to communicate feminist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faith Ringgold makes a more obvious reference to the past with the explicit depiction of Da Vinci
paintings in the background and the traditional technique of oil painting. The five figures, all female,
are shown dancing, playing and ignoring the art that surrounds them. Essentially, they are ignoring the
traditional ideas of art and the white men that have been glorified within the art world that also
oppresses and ignores black women s voices. Similar to how Sherman altered the way the female was
depicted in a traditional style painting, Ringgold also countered these traditional ideas. She depicts the
five black women in a way that they normally wouldn t have been, she shows a story that didn t
happen, but she wish would have. The technique of quilting she uses also contradicts the European
tradition because it was never necessarily considered fine art and was associated with female craft.
The personal connection in Dancing at the Louvre is much deeper and obvious than in Untitled #228.
The medium reflects her African American heritage and the content, her journey through the
repressive world of

The Federal Food And Nutrition Program Model
The first option follows the federal food and nutrition program model mixed with wholesale pricing
and distribution. Philadelphia, a metropolitan area with its share of struggling neighborhoods, has tried
to find success by partnering with Food Trust; a regional advocacy group on the east coast funded by a
variety of public and private sources (Hargreaves, 2015). The Trust provides training on how to handle
fresh produce, like not storing bananas next to apples since apples give off ethylene, which rots the
bananas (Hargreaves, 2015). In addition, the Trust gives advice on how to sell produce, as well as
training with ordering and bookkeeping. For local store, Olivares, the Trust provided money and
expertise, sprucing up the store with a new refrigerated display case, awning, vegetable kiosk, as well
as signs throughout directing customers to the healthful options (Hargreaves, 2015). The Food Trust
and Philadelphia s health department became partners in 2010 and since, the Trust has to some degree
or another renovated over 200 stores around the city. For reference, a full on conversion like Olivares
cost about $60,000 (Hargreaves, 2015). Though somewhat costly and no guarantee, preliminary data
suggests the makeovers are having a positive impact. Some participating stores offer monthly
neighborhood health checkups, and early indicators are that people who shop in these stores are losing
weight and lowering their blood pressure (Hargreaves, 2015). Nationwide, at

Growth Hormone Research Paper
Hormones have been with you since birth. They helped you grow when you were a child. They
transitioned you from childhood to adulthood when you hit puberty. They help you regulate your body
temperature and blood sugar levels. The fact is that you would not be alive without them.
As your body begins to age, the levels of certain key hormones begin to decline also. With the decline
of these hormones, the body begins to show signs of aging. Declining muscle mass and a lack of sex
drive are just two signs that hormone levels are decreasing. The good news is that selective hormone
therapy can help reverse the signs of aging and begin to restore your youthful vigor.

As this hormone declines, it can cause sleeping problems, mood swings, and clouded thinking. It also
leads to higher levels of cortisol and lower levels of sex hormones. Therapy helps to reverse these
problems.
Growth hormone, also known as HGH, is necessary for the development and maintenance of various
organs and tissues. It helps increase muscle mass and strengthens bone structure. This hormone is
often used with children who have growth issues or anyone who has hormone deficiencies.
Testosterone serves functions in men. A man s body uses testosterone to stimulate the growth of facial
hair, increase sex drive, and produce sperm. Testosterone therapy helps men get more energy,
improved memory, better moods, improved muscle mass, and increase sexual stamina.
Testosterone is also critical for women. As testosterone levels decline as a woman ages, body mass
begins to decline, making it harder to keep a healthy weight. It also plays a role in sex drive and mood.
Estrogen levels are critical for women as they age. This hormone helps regulate bone growth,
cholesterol levels, and sex drive. Estrogen therapy can help women, especially during

Is Procrastination Negatively Impacted Professional...
Procrastination may negatively impact professional advancement and general well being, yet to our
knowledge, the relationship with sleep quality has not been investigated. Poor sleep impacts physical
and emotional health, underscoring the importance of addressing this potential outcome. It was
hypothesized that procrastination will be associated with subjective sleep difficulties, an association
mediated by ruminative cognitions. 598 respondents (154 men: Mage = 25.6 ± 3.8; 444 women Mage
= 24.8 ± 3.3) completed online questionnaires regarding procrastination, sleep disturbances,
rumination, emotional state, and chronotype. A structural equation model approach was used for
model testing. Results demonstrated that procrastination positively correlated with sleep disturbance, a
link moderated by chronotype, such that self identified Morning Types reported lower procrastination,
fewer sleep disturbances, and the two measures did not correlate. Among Intermediate and Evening
Types the relationship between procrastination and sleep was mediated by rumination and negative
mood. These findings suggest that addressing the impact on sleep should be one of the targets of
interventions for treating procrastination. 1. Introduction Had I been less firmly resolved upon setting

pledge. Mayor Schell was determined to eliminate the homelessness in Seattle when he became the
mayor in 1998, to achieve his mission he and his team came up with some strategies and restructuring
which are discussed in the paper. Introduction: Mayor Paul Schell was committed to end the
homelessness problems in Seattle. He requested the city council to provide him adequate support in
his pursuit to end the homelessness of children, women and families. In 1998 in his press conference
he mentioned his desire to satisfy the needs of the homeless children, women and families. He knew
that he required emergency assistance. K. Oldham mentioned in his paper Homeless in Seattle , that
the mayor took a firm pledge that the homelessness will end by Christmas and to assist him Alan
Painter, the director of the service of the community division, held a key role in the planning and
strategy formulation. (K. Oldham, 1999) He collaborated with the Mayor to address this issue
however he was deeply concerned that the complete focus on homeless people by the Mayor would
affect the other issues which would be neglected as a result. Policy Choices: Making policy in such a

Abstract
I will be evaluating the guest services department at the Hilton Garden Inn in Charlotte, NC. The hotel
is part of a much larger Hilton family that is quite successful, but this particular property is suffering
from lower guest satisfaction scores, several recent management changes and the resulting low
employee morale. The new guest services manager expects that once the new management both in
guest services and the hotel overall gets settled, the low morale and slipping guest satisfaction scores
can be assuaged by using specialized customer service training. This analysis will follow the progress

There are three full time and three part time members of the Guest Services department. Each of the
full time staff members have been with the company more than two years. The three part time
employees have all been with the company for one year or less with two of the front desk agents
having joined the company within the last two months. While the two newest hires have not become
entirely confident in their positions, the need for overall customer service training would certainly
benefit the department as a whole. Low morale has also been an issue for the department with
employees often complaining about long hours, improper staffing for busy shifts, and recurring
difficulties addressing customer complaints.
Task Analysis
Front Desk agents are responsible for greeting guests and conducting the check in and check out
process. The Guest Services department is the most prominent customer facing position in the
organization as the staff is also responsible for nearly all customer service interactions including, but
not limited to: setting wake up calls, taking room service order, providing suggestions and directions
to local attractions and amenities, fielding customer complaints, and taking reservations. The
individuals that serve in this capacity need to be adept communicators equipped with an amenable

Its operational capacity was severely limited by runway layout; Stapleton had two parallel north south
runways and two additional parallel east west runways that accommodated only commuter air carriers.
Denver s economy grew and expanded greatly in the early 1980s, consequent to booms in the oil, real
estate, and tourism industries. An aging and saturated Stapleton Airport was increasingly seen as a
liability that limited the attractiveness of the region to the many businesses that were flocking to it.
Delays had become chronic. Neither the north south nor east west parallel runways had sufficient
lateral separation to accommodate simultaneous parallel arrival streams during poor weather
conditions when instrument flight rules were in effect. This lack of runway separation and the layout
of Stapleton s taxiways tended to cause delays during high traffic periods, even when weather
conditions were good. Denver s geographic location and the growing size of its population and
commerce made it an attractive location for airline hubbing operations. At one point, Stapleton had
housed four airline hubs, more than any other airport in the United States. In poor weather and during
periods of hightraffic volume, however, its limitations disrupted connection schedules that were
important to maintaining these operations. A local storm could easily congest air traffic across the
entire United States.3 3According to James Barnes [1993], By 1994, Stapleton was one of the top five

In the modern day global economy characterized by free trade, the government has limited power
when it comes to influencing how consumers view an industry or even discriminate against certain

the public, or rather the consumers to view all industries differently. Also, as an advocate for the
consumers, I will provide arguments concerning the reasons as to why I do not believe that some

In the corporate setting, capitalism plays an important role in the sense that it helps ensure that the
decisions made by leaders, such as the CEOs, take into consideration the company s or stockholders
interest in gaining profit (Peñaloza Barnhart, 2011). This implies that it compels business leaders to
make decisions that minimize loses while increasing the profitability of the firm. In most occasions,
this is accomplished through the application of the utilitarian and Kantian approach to decision
making. However, it s important to note that the central implication of public capitalism is that of
helping foster corporate decision making based on the broader effort to promote the public good
(Peñaloza Barnhart, 2011).
Discuss if you believe it is possible for a company to cater to both its best interest and that of the
consumer conjointly or if one always has to prevail. Justify your response. In the modern world of
business, it s possible for a business to cater for both its best interest and that of the consumer
conjointly. The best interests of most companies, for example those in the fast food industry, include
maximizing profitability by increasing sales (Forschler, 2013). However, it s possible for them to cater
for the best interest of the consumers, such as increasing consumer satisfaction, only if they utilize

  • 2. The Causes Of The Cuban Missile Crisis The Cuban Missile Crisis In the fall of 1962, the world sat on edge for thirteen days as the prospect of a nuclear war between the United States and The Soviet Union became more and more legitimate. In October of 1962, an American spy plane discovered nuclear missile launch sites being built by the Soviet Union in Cuba, which rests only ninety miles south of Florida. The US went on to impose a naval blockade of Cuba, making sure that no more nuclear weapons were imported into Havana (Lebow 2000). President John F. Kennedy was tasked with the duty to remove the nuclear missiles from Cuba while preventing a catastrophic and deadly nuclear war. Nikita Khrushchev, the leader of the Soviet Union, longed to be seen as the powerful and authoritative figure that would be able bring the Soviet Union to equal levels of political, military, and social prominence as the United States. Ultimately, Khrushchev sought to maintain his political and military power and influence, and not backing down from the all powerful United States and John F. Kennedy demonstrated to his colleagues that he meant business. Similarly, President Kennedy was seeking re election in November of 1962, only a month after the rising tensions. In order to be re elected, Kennedy recognized his need to make up for the failures of the Bay of Pigs and the Vienna Summit and Kennedy became eager to improve his current poor reputation and show the world, and more importantly US voters, his strong willed resolve. Therefore, it is very important teachers to apply the key ideas of these developmental theories in their teaching career to the betterment of students. This document will present a brief description of four major developmental theories and will focus on how these theories can be applied in my real teaching world as a middle school teacher. • 5. Ralph Waldo Emerson s Ideology Of Self Identity In the essay, Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson s ideology of self identity is impractical today because the media has hindered society from developing our true identities. The use of social media is ruining this generation s real life social skills. According to Social Media Today, an online community for professionals, The amount of time people spend on social media is constantly increasing. Teens now spend up to nine hours a day on social platforms, while 30% of all time spent online is now allocated to social media interaction. Texting or online communications does not allow people to truly express themselves for who they truly are. There is a loss of social and personal development communicating through social media. For instance, people online are unable to use body language, tone, voice and facial expressions through a text. An article on The Telegraph, pointed out that One in four people spend more time socialising online, using sites such as Facebook, than they do in person, according to research. The study also found that even when there is an opportunity to see people face to face, on weekends for example, up to 11% of adults still prefer to stay at home and communicate on their devices instead. (USA Today). The problem with socialising online is that affects a person s ability to communicate properly in face to face interactions. While observing the feeding, I focused on one particular hydranth with 18 tentacles that captured and ingested 8 Artemia. Meanwhile, a hydranth of similar size with 15 tentacles caught no brine shrimp, even though many passed by it within reach. This lead to the question of why some hydranths feed while others do not. I would like to determine if there is a specific reason as to why some hydranths fed and others did not. Does the relative size of the hydranths cause different feeding habits? It also explores prevention methods currently recommended by leading organisations. Despite a reduction of mortality linked to pertussis, it remains a health concern worldwide (WHO, 2010). 2.0 Definition of pertussis Pertussis, also referred to as whooping cough, is a bacterial infection affecting the upper respiratory tract (Pluta, Lynm, Glass, 2010). Caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacterium, this disease is most commonly diagnosed in unvaccinated young children. The infection is characterised by a long lasting wet cough, paroxysms of coughing, a whooping sound on inspiration (Pluta et al., 2010), and often vomiting following the coughing (Bentley, Pinfield, Rouse, 2013). The bacteria are transmitted by airborne droplets released when infected individuals sneeze or cough and, consequently, the infection is highly contagious (Chivima, 2011). • 10. Analysis Of Bacon Rebellion Brice Everson Mrs. Blomme Honors I 30 September 2014 Bacon s Rebellion The definition of courage as defined by Dictionary.com is the ability to do something that frightens one. A rebellion takes courage. It s not something the average human being can do. One cannot simply expect just anyone to verbally stand up for what they believe is right. Courage is not something found in a common human being. Sure, everyone has it somewhere deep down, but as for that select group of people who aren t afraid to stand up for what they believe is right: They are the ones that make a difference. Nathaniel Bacon wasn t by any means a great man but he definitely wasn t afraid to take charge of a situation that involved him, directly or indirectly, and stand up for himself. He was the type of relentless figure that made a difference in history because he had one thing we all strive to have: Courage. Bacon s Rebellion, also known as the Virginia Rebellion, took place in Jamestown, Virginia in 1676. Bacon s Rebellion was probably one of the most confusing yet intriguing chapters in Jamestown s history (McCulley). This rebellion is considered to be the first stirring of revolutionary sentiment in America,...(McCulley). • 17. Anti-Heroism In One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest Ken Kesey, the author of One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, was inspired to write his novel from his time working as an orderly at a mental health facility. He often experimented with LSD and his documented drug use provided a realistic perspective of a mental patient. It is almost as if Kesey is an anti hero himself; in order to achieve a different point of view, being that of a mental patient, and write a spectacular book, he broke the law by taking drugs. Ken Kesey portrayed the main character, McMurphy, as an anti hero. Throughout the essay, different aspects of McMurphy s anti heroism will be explored by comparing the character with other fictional anti heroes, such as Achilles, Jack Sparrow and Huckleberry Finn. In One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, R.P. McMurphy is portrayed as an anti hero, as he chose to live his mortal life on his own terms, opposed to sticking by the rules of society. The excessive pride and self confidence that McMurphy possessed, knowing that no one could stop him, lead to his eventual downfall, similar to the life of Achilles. It appeared as though McMurphy and Achilles were immortal, yet what made them human was the certainty that they would one day die. As Achilles once stated everything is more beautiful because we re doomed . McMurphy was able to escape a Chinese prison and break Nurse Ratched and Achilles is known as one of the greatest Greek warriors. Both of the characters actions create the impression they were unstoppable; although they were eventually conquered by death, both seemingly for a cause. These characters had different intentions; Achilles chose death over life in order to gain the glory of being remembered forever, whereas McMurphy died for the men in the institute. Nurse Ratched baits McMurphy to breaking point, providing an excuse for his lobotomy. She does this in order to retain her power but by the time McMurphy dies, she had lost her power in the process due to his actions. This realisation is what freed the boys. • 19. Metric System Research Paper How many 16ths of an inch are in a mile? How many fluid ounces in a cubic inch? What is the conversion factor between degrees celsius and degrees Fahrenheit? These are some of the terrible questions that plague only the minds of people in three countries in the world: the United States of America, Myanmar, and Liberia. All 193 of the other countries in the world use the metric system. The United States of America should convert to the metric system because of the following reasons: it is the global and scientific standard, it is much easier to use, not using it causes US consumers and businesses to lose money, and our lack of familiarity with it is part of the reason why our students lag so far behind much of the rest of the world in STEM ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of this occurred in 1999 when the NASA spacecraft Orbiter burned up in the Martian atmosphere due to a conversion error. This was caused because one of the Lockheed Martin engineers tried to use the US customary (imperial) system while all the other engineers used the metric system (SI) This eventually caused the $125,000,000 orbiter to miss its proper orbit and burn up in the atmosphere of mars (NASA). Although losses due to conversion errors on this magnitude are rather uncommon, there are still other ways in which not using the metric system that can cause US consumers and business to lose money, When selling a product, the seller needs to have sufficient demand for their product in order to justify the cost of production. One way to increase the profit is to start mass producing the product. This is because mass producing can significantly reduce the cost per item to produce a product. However when there is insufficient demand for a product to mass produce the profit margin will substantially decrease, and the price of the item for consumers will need to be increased to maintain the cost of operations for the company making the product. This means that because the US uses a different measurement system than the rest of the world and has different sizes of products, that any business that makes things for our country has fewer potential buyers and a higher cost to make each item. This means that if that business converted to the metric system that they could potentially increase their sales by a factor of 31. Along with increasing business profits, changing to the metric system would lead to cheaper prices for all consumers because businesses would not need to have both metric and special US customary equipment thus, lowering the operating costs of the ... • 20. The Issue Of Gay Marriage Gay marriage, something that has increasingly been on the news, is talked about in chapter five. Lambda Legal Defense eve talks about how they will enforce gay marriage through the manipulation of the courts. The whole trend started in 1996 in Hawaii, with a ruling there saying theres no reason to ban gay civil marriages. The biggest problem, is that this is not the job of the Supreme Court Justices to decide, but elected representatives. In 20 years, the Supreme court has decided in two cases addressing constitutionality of state sodomy in Bowers v. Hardwick and Lawrence v. Texas. In Romers v. Evans, it ruled on a state constitution amendment. William F. Buckley wrote a response where in summary he is declaring the Supreme Court has no right to be in the bedroom of Americans. Having government involved in any personal matter is hazardous. The debate over which branch of government gets to decide how, when, and why it can be there(Levin.73) this is saying that the government will enforce themselves in our privacy on other issues besides gay relationships and contraceptives. New York times ran an article talking about sodomy laws, and how they are rarely enforced due to not being able accurately prove anything, and also the time it would take to search for violators. In Bowers V. Hardwick an Atlanta police officer went to Hardwick s house with a warrant for ticket violations, and found Hardwick with another man in his bedroom. Dj Kol Herc Research Paper Clive Campbell, better known by his stage name DJ Kool Herc, is a Jamaican American DJ who often threw block parties in the early 1970 s in one of the most impoverished areas of New York City, the South Bronx . At these party s Herc created rhythmic beats by looping the breaks in songs. Later these same beats would be accompanied by rap , a rhythmic style of chanting poetry which is often presented in 16 bar measures or time frames (Thompson). Herc is often regarded as the father of hip hop music because what started out as just block party music turned into a cultural movement for many young African American youths. The music in different eras represents a sort of time machine into what ideas and problems are wrong with society, thus bringing them to the attention of the masses and getting them solved. • 23. Pilate As A Positive Figure In The Bible The Bible is interpreted in many different ways. Depending on who wrote the chapter, when the story was written, and it depends on the person who is reading the story. All of these factors contribute to how we read the Bible. Depending on the context of the situation, Pilate may be portrayed as a negative, neutral, or positive figure in the Bible. Warrens Carter s book, Pontius Pilate: Portraits of a Roman Governor, states, Gundry sees the first sign of this Christianizing in Matthew s presentation when Pilate asks the crowd if they want to release Jesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Christ? (Carter 9). This source claims that Pilate is one of the first Christians and makes an effort to save Jesus from being crucified. I argue that Pilate is seen as a negative figure in the Bible because The standard way of thinking about Pilate s role as a figure in the Bible has it that Pilate is seen as a positive figure. Pilate is the governor and holds most of the power, he is aware of Jesus s innocence before crucifying him, and he is naïve to think that his hands are cleaned of Jesus s blood. Pilate is seen as a negative character because of many different reasons. Pilate is not a normal citizen of Judaea; he was the governor. He had the power to approve or disapprove any decision the city wanted to make. Some sources claim that Pilate did not want to start a riot or that he fell into peer pressure, but a strong leader should have been able to stand up for the right ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since most of the food I ate are either deep fried or cooked with high heat in the cooking process (for example vegetable stew), the heat destroys vitamin E. Firstly, I can change my way of eating vegetables from cooked product to salads. Salad dressing and shortening are high in Vitamin E, and they are easily found in the school cafeteria. Salad with dressing can provide me with most of the vitamin E I need, 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise made from safflower contains 3.0 mg of it and 1 teaspoon of canola oil contains 2.4 mg. Vegetables themselves also contain vitamin E, if I have salad twice a day that will take up to half of what is needed everyday. Another reason I am not getting enough is because I eat a lot of white bread and white long grained rice, which all have the grain germ removed during production. However, wheat germ is a good source of vitamin E; therefore, if I switch from white bread to whole wheat bread and white rice to brown rice, it will increase my vitamin E intake. • 27. Examples Of Heroism In The Book Of Exodus The Book of Exodus is the story of the Israelite s escape from slavery through the leadership of Moses and power of God. Moses demonstrates numerous heroic characteristics throughout the Book of Exodus as he leads the Israelites to freedom. As defined by Professor of Classics at Rutgers University Lowell Edmunds, a hero is a man, often of divine ancestry, [and] favored by the gods. In addition, Edmunds continues the definition of a hero as one who is endowed with great courage and strength...especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. Under this definition, we can draw significant parallels between Moses s life and a traditional hero s life. God chooses and favors Moses; he is born into a divine line, and also granted great powers to aid him in his journey. In addition, he uses his God given strength to lead and protect the Israelites. Lastly, Moses sacrifices his life to fulfill his heroic responsibility, despite his original hesitations. These aspects of Moses life and traits reflect significantly on his persona and prove his heroism. From birth, Moses heroic destiny is clear. He is born into a family lineage of divine power and knowledge, and then Pharaoh raises him. Although his biological mother put [him] in [a basket] among the reeds at the river s brink, he is well aware of his roots throughout his early life. This knowledge significantly affects his actions, which reflect his inherent heroism. Before God confronts Moses, he sees an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Karen Horney Was One Of The First Noted Female Psychoanalyst Karen Horney was one of the first noted female psychoanalyst theorist who, along with Alfred Adler, formed the Neo Freudian discipline. Her theory on personality put more emphasis on the individual s childhood experiences and the social and cultural aspects that affect them. In order to explain a person s personality, Horney developed the theory of neurosis. After he graduated he joined the family business and moved to Manhattan where he tried to grow it beyond what his father had done. Using Horney s theory we can examine the early years of Trump s life. Of the ten basic neurotic needs Trump strongly shows the need for power, the need for social recognition, and the need for personal achievement (Horney, 1942). As Horney s theory emphasizes childhood experiences, we can see how a child who grew up in a big family that was affluent would want power and social recognition. He grew up needing to compete with his siblings for his parents attention and by watching his father he believed that success in his career was the best way to achieve personal success. Lots of Trump s actions pointed to him trying to fill his need for social recognition: he was a star athlete, a student leader, and he was known for being cocky. Kurtz begins by reciting the beginning of the poem as We are the hollow men. We are the stuffed men. Leaning together, Headpiece filled with straw. Of course the beginning of the poem explains how men are full in their heads, but it is of a meaningless substance as compared to straw. The straw in the man s head could be interpreted as the lies of the Vietnam war, and it is also lies that Kurtz hates the most. Coppola is making a huge statement here about the war. American soldiers and part of the country itself,(those being in favor of the Vietnam War), are the hollow men. They went to Vietnam thinking they were going to fight against Communism and thought they could win the war, but the war was filled with lies in the way the government organized it, and because it was filled with such lies, it was a meaningless war. The first twelve lines of the poem then concludes with Shape without form, shade without colour, Paralyzed force, gesture without motion: Again, this is voidness of anything meaningful or with a true desire. Obstetricians and hospital s rely on technology more than ever to flag potential problems during pregnancy, labor, and delivery (1). Continuous recording of the fetal heart rate come into being in the 1970 s and is likely a big contributor to the increase in Caesarean sections(1). Continuous monitoring allows doctors to make a decision on what birthing method should be used: natural birth or caesarean. The benefits of natural birth outweigh the risks of a Caesarean section to mother and baby. Pregnancy occurs when a sperm and egg unite, this is called conception. A zygote is created, in one week the zygote attaches itself on the uterine wall, and in two weeks becomes an embryo. Week 10 of pregnancy the embryo turns into a fetus. The fetus develops more and more for 28 weeks. Around 39 40 weeks, a woman can go into labor. Labor is when the mother starts having contractions, and the baby s head starts dropping into the cervix. The cervix dilates and thins out. As the cervix is fully dilated at 10 centimeters the mother beings pushing. Vaginal birth entails less discomfort after delivery (9). Vaginal birth babies can go home with their babies sooner (9). Vaginal births take roughly one or two weeks for recovery (1). During natural birth the baby gets a squeeze. • 38. Imperialization Of Greek Civilization Very few civilizations have had as profound an influence on the world as those of ancient Greece. The Greeks laid the foundations for fields varying from philosophy to political theory to war tactics. However, this influence was not just due to their intelligence or success, but their widespread presence in the Mediterranean. Greek culture was spread throughout their known world in two distinct manners, the foundation of apoikia in the Archaic Age (8th century to 500 B.C. ) and imperialists by poleis, primarily Athens of the Classical Age (490 323 B.C ). Though the culture of a mother city (mētropolis) may have spread through two very different manners of colonization. The word is not used in the literal sense, but rather hereafter used to mean spreading of culture , as the former can hardly be described using the contemporary definition of colonization and the latter was through Athenian empire building. These developments had a significant impact on ancient Greece and our modern perception thereof. Like most of the ancient world, we can best analyze these methods of colonialism through extant artifacts. I will analyze an inscription of the foundation oath of Cyrene, which recounts the decision and manner in which the island of Thera sent its citizens to the form a new polis, and the fragments of the Lapis Primus, a marble monolith that documented tributes to Athens when the city was at the peak of its imperial age, evidencing the magnitude of their power and influence in the Greek region. The Cyrene inscription is a short oath from the 4th century B.C. that describes, from three centuries prior, the Theran rationale behind forming Cyrene, the manner in which they undertook this expedition, and their perception of the newly formed city. The inscription claims that Apollo spontaneously ordered the Therans to send a group of people to Libya in order to form a colony, with their citizen Battos as the king. The Theran assembly decided to send one son from each household, who was in the prime of life, 4 along with any free man who desired to leave, to colonize Cyrene. The assembly threatened anyone who resisted departure with the death penalty and a curse upon him and his descendants. Once the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Why Lobsters Is Wrong We all enjoy eating lobsters because of their freshness and richness in meat. Here are some fun facts about lobsters. Lobsters used to be considered low class food before 1800s. In early America, there were laws that prohibited feeding lobsters to inmates because eating lobsters was deemed too inhumane. It was similar to feeding rats to people. Lobsters used to be categorized as low class food because there were so many lobsters in old New England that one source described it with unbelievable abundance . On the other hand, in modern days, lobsters are thought to be a type of luxury food due to their richness in meat. The most conventional method to cook a lobster is to boil it. You put the lobster into a large kettle and boil it for about 10 minutes. Keep in mind that the lobster has to be alive when it is initially put into the kettle to maintain its freshness. However, is it ethical to boil a living animal to death just to enjoy its freshness? We now have reached the very controversial topic; it is very unclear whether lobsters are able to feel pain or not. In 2003 MLF Quiz program, it was stated that the nervous system of a lobster is highly similar to that of a grasshopper; there is no cerebral cortex which allows it to feel pain. Procrastination may negatively impact professional advancement and general well being, yet to our knowledge, the relationship with sleep quality has not been investigated. Poor sleep impacts physical and emotional health, underscoring the importance of addressing this potential outcome. It was hypothesized that procrastination will be associated with subjective sleep difficulties, an association mediated by ruminative cognitions. 598 respondents (154 men: Mage = 25.6 ± 3.8; 444 women Mage = 24.8 ± 3.3) completed online questionnaires regarding procrastination, sleep disturbances, rumination, emotional state, and chronotype. A structural equation model approach was used for model testing. Results demonstrated that procrastination positively correlated with sleep disturbance, a link moderated by chronotype, such that self identified Morning Types reported lower procrastination, fewer sleep disturbances, and the two measures did not correlate. Among Intermediate and Evening Types the relationship between procrastination and sleep was mediated by rumination and negative mood. These findings suggest that addressing the impact on sleep should be one of the targets of interventions for treating procrastination. 1.
