A Live Action Documentary Of The History And Its Impact On...
The film contains two narratives, a live action documentary of the history of textile mills in the
United States and a cartoon drama about people dealing with the struggles typical in the early years
of this industry. Although they are interwoven with each other in the film, these narratives will be
summarized separately in this essay for the sake of clarity, first the documentary section, and
second, the cartoon, but reflected upon as a unit to better focus on the impact of the film as a
whole. The documentary section details the evolution of technology in the era and its impact on
society, beginning with a description of what things were like in the United States prior to the
appearance of mills, noting that everything had to be done manually. In New England, the creation
of clothing typically involved shearing sheep for their wool, followed by cleaning and carding the
wool, making it into slivers, spinning the slivers into thread, and weaving the thread into cloth, and
sewing the pieces of cloth together into clothing. Tools such as the loom and spinning wheel aided
in the process, but they had to be operated manually. Water wheels had previously been used to
power the grinding of grain. Eventually, in Europe, they also came to be used to power machines
that handled carding, then machines called water frames that spun multiple slivers at once, thus
drastically increasing the production of yarn. Spinning mills were established, generating numerous
jobs. Although, in the

The Effects Of Drunk Driving On The Road Of Driving
Oluwaseyi Isola
Prof. Laura Baltuska
English 101 015

Under the Influence Is Under Arrest
What is one of the most evil and deadly acts? Drunk driving? Oh no! These two words together
are uncordial behaviors. The crime of driving a vehicle or operating a motorized machine while
under the influence of alcohol is totally against the law of the land, but some people still won t
stop. Is there any gain in drunk driving than loss of lives, loss of driving privileges, and property
vehicles? One third of traffic deaths involve alcohol impaired driving (MADD). Therefore, a
behavior that involves a tiny proportion of drivers is one of the key causes of death on the roads.
This is an indication that retaining the licenses of drivers involved in drunk driving is not enough to
deter drunk driving because some people in this category are still driving even though their
licenses have been suspended or revoked. For this reason, it is necessary to adopt more strict
measures to deal with the problem. In particular, drunk driving can be prevented through the use of
ignition interlock systems and sobriety checkpoints at an individual level while a school based
instructional program can help to prevent the problem at a community level.
To begin with, drunk driving is a serious menace to Americans on the road, as it contributes to a
large number of traffic deaths and injuries. In 2012, for instance, over 10,000 people lost their lives
from crashes attributed to drunk driving.

Langston Hughes The Negro Artist And The Racial Mountain
Langston Hughes , The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain claimed that African Americans face
racial and cultural challenges with finding their own identity in a society mainly influenced by
Eurocentric American culture. More specifically, Hughes discussed the challenges of African
American artists in embracing their black and remaining successful. Hughes recalled a conversation
with a black poet, who stated that I want to be a poet not a Negro poet, (Hughes, 964). Hughes
interpreted his statement to mean that subconsciously he wanted to be white. He used this
conversation and others to support his beliefs about African Americanidentity and culture. He
communicated that African Americans try to blend into the Eurocentric American culture,

Barbara Ehrenreich s Your Local News-Dateline Delhi
International relations is a topic that is constantly changing and can be very fragile. In the article,
Your Local News Dateline Delhi Barbara Ehrenreich, a respected journalist, shares her personal
insights into the outsourcing of American jobs to foreign lands. Ehrenreich s cynical attitude, use
of dry humor, and rhetorical questions makes this daunting subject easier to take in. Fareed Zakaria,
a well known author, explains the globalized world and where outsourcingfits, in an excerpt from
his book, The Post American World. Zakaria looks back in history to show the reader how the
world came to this globalizing moment , then he hypothesizes the future of the global economy by
piecing together all of the elements. Ehrenreich shows... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everybody has their own worries and opinions, so they choose to care about different things.
Barbara Ehrenreich puts it this way, The world may be flat, as New York Times columnist
Thomas Friedman has written, but I always liked to think that I was standing on a bit of a hill
(608). The truth about outsourcing flies over the heads of many Americans, but hits Ehrenreich
right in the face. She writes this article because it s a journalist s job is to take in new
information that may be hard to understand or meant to be kept on the down low and convey it
in a way that s appealing to many. She implicitly blames CEOs and other high class positions for
some of the more outrageous and negative outsourcing situations. Zakaria directly addresses this
problem stating: There is a growing gap between America s worldly business elite and
cosmopolitan class, on the other hand, and the majority of the American people, on the other
(622). America s worldly business elite and cosmopolitan class are the ones that understand and
control outsourcing, while the rest of Americans stay uninformed and are the real victims of
outsourcing. Zakaria describes the rise of the rest as the third major tectonic power shift. His
theory, which makes perfect sense, implies that these power shifts are a natural occurrence.
According to Zakaria, the third shift shouldn t hurt America and Americans shouldn t feel
threatened or worried by it. The thing that Americans should be worried about is the growing gap
of power that exists between the elite business class and the rest of Americans. Because the higher
class only looks out for themselves and only seeks profit for the firms that they control, many
negative things are happening to the lower class, the biggest being the outsourcing of their jobs.
This gap in power is what Zakaria thinks could hurt America and make it impossible to adapt to the
more globalized world. Americans need

The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics
The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a
semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early
eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or
purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and
barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits
and prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals,
and preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as
blood feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish
appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. In these actions, the church
deeply penetrated the legal and moral foundations of society. This is another example of how the
Christianization of Russia started to shape politics and the culture of Russia specifically from some
of the earliest times of Russian society. (133, Engelstein)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These church people were under the church s jurisdiction and direct control and included monks,
the clergy, church employees and their families, among others. (134, Engelstein) From its inception,
the church served as a social welfare organization for the weakest and least fortunate elements of
society who were threatened by death or slavery in these barbaric times. In this instance, the church
acted as guardian as well as the government. This is yet another example of the construction of
influence the church had in shaping Russian culture and government. (134,

The Bibliography Of Heady Lamarr
Part 1: The Bibliography of Heady Lamarr
Hedy Lamarr was born Hedwig Maria Eva Kiesler in Vienna, Austria on November 9, 1914 to
Emil and Gertrud Kiesler. According to several sources Hedy was extremely spoiled by her
father as he doted on her constantly and encouraged her love of scientific exploration, conversely
her mother Gertrud was reportedly much sterner with Hedy. According to Hedy and her family,
Hedy s goal was always to be an actress so it was no surprise to her contemporaries when she
dropped out of school to join the theater. It s important to note that the theater was a well respected
well attended media outlet in Vienna at that time, the culture of Vienna was accepting and often

This is how Hedy gained the knowledge necessary to work with George Antheil in the
development of the Secret Communication System . The biggest issue for Hedy while she was
married to Friz was that she was not allowed to work, she described her marriage to him as Being
kept in the Gilded Cage and she eventually had to escape the marriage and flee to Paris. This is
where she eventually met up Louis B Mayer, a talent scout in Europe, who helped her move to
America, change her name to Hedy Lamarr, and begin her Hollywood career.
Furthermore interesting is that after Hedy patented her invention, the Navy denied to use it;
stating that it just took up too much space onboard their already over packed ships. But Hedy
had a will to help with the war efforts, so she went on a campaign to sell war bonds through the
influence of her celebrity status. After which she continued her film career for a total of 33
movies [3], raised three children one of which she adopted, and married and divorced five more
times. Hedy eventually died on January 19, 2000 in her home in Casselberry, FL, ironically enough
she spent most of her last few years in seclusion only communicating with her family via a
cellphone, the very technology her invention helped create.

The Worldwide Problem of Deforestation
Deforestation is an increasingly prevalent problem worldwide. About half of the forests that once
covered the Earth are now gone, much of which has happened in just the past few decades. Forests
have been cleared mostly for fuel, building materials, and land for farming. Deforestation has been
expanding and accelerating into the little amount of forests that remain across the world. Not only
do forests provide useful products, but they also influence the Earths climate and are home to a
remarkable amount of biological diversity. Deforestation has taken a lot of these elements away,
and has also led to an increase in carbon dioxide. Without trees to use the increasing amounts of
carbon dioxide put out by humans, the carbon dioxide simply remains in the atmosphere.
Until recently, most of the deforestation happened in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. In the
last few decades though, the majority of deforestation has occurred in the tropics. It is estimated
that Latin America and Asia have already lost 40% of their original forest (University of
Michigan). In most of these countries, deforestation is also accelerating. There are many causes for
deforestation, including population pressure, social and political forces, and profits. The increasing
need for palm oil in today s world accounts for much of the deforestation occurring in many tropical
countries such as Indonesia. Palm oil is extremely versatile and is used in cooking, cosmetics, and
biofuels.

Lather And Nothing Else Symbolism
Lather and Nothing Else, a story that takes place in South America around the time of the early
1900 s. The atmosphere that revolves around the story consists of suspense, worry, and tension;
keeping the reader intrigued. By using first person point of view, the reader doesn t know the
thoughts of the enemy (Torres). Yet the author s use of symbolism, irony, and first person point
of view is very effective. It allows the reader to establish a deeper emotional connection to the
scenario being put forth in front of them and increasing the level of tension throughout the story.
The perspective of Lather and Nothing Else is in first person. The author s decision to write the
piece in this perspective is very effective because it has the ability to show the in depth emotions,
thoughts, and personality of the town barber. The reader can view the character in all directions,
gaining empathy and sympathy for him. Also, it gives the reader great insight into the conflict of
the story (the dilemma inside of the barber s head) and let us see all the things the barber must
consider in order to make his decision of remaining a barber, or becoming a murderer.... Show more

of the razor or the gleam in my eye. Also, the razor represents choices and freedoms. Torres is a

Rule of law in India
Rule of law in India When the rule of law disappears, we are ruled by the whims of men Tiffany
Madison Introduction What does rule of law mean? In laymen terms, law should rule, people
should obey the law. The earliest form of this type of governance could be traced back to 1750
BC. The Hammurabi code, popularly known as an eye for an eye , off course it was the most
primitive form of law which was used to obtain justice. In a democratic nation especially India, our
constitution is the supreme law. Although the term rule of law is not used in our constitution
anywhere, it is accepted that India is a country which is governed by rule of law. However it finds
its place in the constitution as an underlying principle1 and hence this... Show more content on

This allows the judiciary to be incorruptible, which in my opinion is important for judiciary to
uphold the laws. The remedy to approach the Supreme Court in case of infringement of
fundamental right under article 32, itself is a fundamental right. The judiciary over the years
has strengthened this powers by 1) by declaring judicial review as a basic feature of the
constitution and making it non amendable by the parliament.2) Introducing the concept of
Public interest litigation which enables the masses to reach justice. 3) It also has the power to
look into the constitutional amendments. The above mentioned aspects of the judiciary are
effective in upholding the law. Independent judiciary armed with such powers is important for
sustaining rule of law. In reality, there are certain aspects of our judiciary which interferes with
sustainability of rule of law. The judiciary is a separate body and their accountability is limited,
the judges might start to act above the law and there are not many effective checks on the
judiciary. The idea of establishing National Judicial Council to check the activities of the
judiciary has been discussed for a long time but no progress has been made yet.4 Apart from the
above loopholes, the biggest problem of the Indian courts I feel is the delay in the judgments. Many
cases go on for decades, the popular example being the royal family case in Bengal which has been
going for 175 years now.5 The delay of

and westernizing each. This secularization has had a distinct role in shaping the language,

Over the past decade, smartphones have taken the world by storm and recently, tablets have entered
into the arena as well. These mobile devices are having a significant impact on our lives and are in
fact redefining the way we access information and communicate with others. This is due to not only
the hardware but the specialized software that these devices run and most importantly, their
operating systems.
Just like a PC can run different operating systems (like Windows, Linux, BSD etc.) or different
versions of the same operating system (like Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 etc.), most

Narrative Essay On Missions Trip
Over the summer I went to Nashville, Tennessee for a missions trip with my youth group.
During the trip, I experienced many awkward and embarrassing situations that I wish I didn t
have to live through. Even though there were powerful worship services, memories made, and
friendships formed, the week was pretty hectic. There were three particular incidents that really
stick out when I think of Missions Trip 2016. These incidents include an atrocious crew and
crew leader, a flirtatious man, and a scary church where we stayed. The first incident happened
upon being assigned to an awful crew. The crew leader, Pete, was the worst of them all. He was
immature and a total stick in the mud. For example, he never showed up to help us on the nights
our crew had to clean up after dinner or when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was sitting with the kids I was working with that week and one of the volunteers who was
around six years older then me was sitting in front of me. Out of nowhere, he asked, Are you
going to be a senior this year? He had a big smile on his face. I told him that I was going into the
eighth grade and that s when things got awkward. He got super worried. Oh , uh, nevermind, he
muttered. He walked away pretty quickly. I m already an anxious mess, so when I had to take
the kids into his classroom the rest of the week it was extremely nerve wracking. The last
incident was when we got to the place we were staying. The church where we were housed was
so old, the missions trip leaders had to have us choose between air conditioning and charging our
electronics! In Tennessee, air conditioning is the obvious choice. All the youth groups were
separated into different rooms, when usually each youth group has their own rooms. I didn t
enjoy that. The church was in the middle of the ghetto, too! On the fourth of July, no one was sure
if the bangs we heard were fireworks or gunshots. I was scared. Hopefully, next year will be less

In the late summer of 1914 in Europe the most terrible thing occured Germany went against

Army Slowly Advanced Into The Forest
Nightburn s army slowly advanced into the forest. Their retreat was purposely slow. It would
enable the enemy scouts to see where they had gone and report to Duke Gashard. Gashard s army
advanced on them quickly, perhaps, only an hour s time, before they would overtake them.
Nightburn s army passed through the forest, fully aware that Gashard s army would shortly be
upon them. They had increased the speed of their withdrawal once they entered the forest and were
now almost at a full run. Nightburn reigned in his horse as Sir Faine came barreling toward him
from his left and met him.
Are the archers in position? He shifted in his saddle, looking back as his troops continued to run
passed, to view the tail end of his troops retreat. They were almost clear of the forest, and so far
everything was going as planned.
Yes, my Lord. Sir Faine replied, also satisfied with the progress of the troops.
Who s the officer with them?
Lieutenant Gustav and he understands what s expected of him.
Nightburn nodded and both rode off quickly, urging the men to an even faster pace. Gashard s
army had advanced quickly and most had already entered the forest of Catahclisum. They had cut
the time of encounter in half and Duke Gashard was very pleased. He could not wait to get his

Criminal Justice System And The Law System
INTRODUCTION Developing information suggests that a criminal justice system gains practical
value by generating societal views of fair enforcement and judgement. Particularly, views of
practical fairness resulting in views of the system s legality, may promote systemic compliance with
applicable law, support with legal institutions and actors, and respect to even negative outcomes. A
separate information alludes that a criminal justice system derives realistic value by allocating
criminal legal responsibility and punishment according to principles that trail general instincts of
justice. Distinctively, views of applicable justice resulting in views of the system s ethical
credibility would seem to promote compliance, support, and respect. By contrast, a criminal justice
system alleged to be procedurally unfair or basically unjust may incite resistance and agitation, and
may lose its capacity to control powerful social and normative influence. Trust in the Law by T.R.
Tyler and Y. J. Huo pursues to explain why people eagerly comply with legal authorities. One
method by which compliance might be achieved is through the threat of sanctions that would be
associated with noncompliance. This avoidance approach, the authors indicate, is less optimal than
having people consent without persuasion. Their central notion is that such willingness to comply
critically depends upon a strong sense that legal authorities are legitimate. This sense of legitimacy,

institutions; we are representatives of governments, NGOs and the United Nations. We speak
many languages, we look like the diverse peoples of the world and carry their diverse beliefs and

We know how critical it is that institutions traditionally controlled by men reshape their policies
and priorities to support gender equality and the well being of women, children, and men. And we
know that a critical part of that is to reshape the world of men and boys, the beliefs of men and
boys, and the lives of men and boys.
PART TWO: THE PLAN OF ACTION
The Evidence Base is There: New initiatives and programs to engage men and boys in gender
equality provides a growing body of evidence that confirms it is possible to change men s gender
related attitudes and practices. Effective programs and processes have led men and boys to stand
up against violence and for gender equality in both their personal lives and their communities.
These initiatives not only help deconstruct harmful masculinities, but reconstruct more gender
equitable ones. Global research makes it increasingly clear that working with men and boys can
reduce violence, improve relationships, strengthen the work of the women s movement, improve
health outcomes of women and men, girls and boys, and that it is possible to accelerate this change
through deliberate interventions.
Working with the Women s Movement: The work with men and boys stems from and honors the
pioneering work and ongoing leadership of the women s movement. We stand in solidarity with the
ongoing struggles for women s empowerment and rights in our commitment to contribute to the

Neil Jacobstein s Analysis
Neil Jacobstein, an AI expert who has consulted on projects for the U.S. military, GM, and Ford,
has thought of a solution for AI becoming too powerful, or superintelligent. Deep learning is a
part of AI created to help it accomplish tasks on their own. But if AI starts to learn on its own,
there is the fear of the Terminator style robot emerging down the road. As AI becomes more
powerful, there is the question of making sure we are monitoring its objectives at it understands
them, Jacobstein said. However, he did propose a solution: A control system to shut AI down. If
something does go wrong, and in most systems it occasionally does, how quickly can we get the
system back on track? That s often by having multiple redundant pathways for establishing
control, he said (Muoio). Another way we can make sure AI does not go haywire is by
programming Isaac Asimov s laws of robotics into AI. The three laws are: a robot may not injure
a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm; a robot must obey
orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law; a
robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or
Second Law. A lot of rules can be loopholed out of, but these laws do not... Show more content on

better or be the end of humanity if even a slight mistake is made. The positive developments may

everything for granted. Not a lot of solutions exist, but a few can be implemented, like a shutdown

How Trade Policies Affect Economic Growth And Development
One puzzle of the world economy is that... Why are some countries so much richer than other? Or
to put it differently, why have some economies per capita income been growing at faster rates than
others? Most likely, there are numerous factors that play a role. This essay is an attempt to
enumerate and discuss at least some factors. A satisfactory understanding of economic growth also
requires an appreciation of how countries interact with each other, because countries income levels
are interdependent. Trade policies help foster these interactions between countries (and businesses).
The question of how trade policies affect economic growth and development has become a
controversial topic. After World War 2, colonial areas that gained independence after the war
believed they could reach higher income levels like their former colonizer only through rapid
government controlled industrialization. Many developing countries adopted measures intended to
reduce their independence on the export of primary goods (such as coffee, copper, and wheat).
The justification for such policies came from a belief that demand of primary goods to
manufactures would decline in the future due to technological progress in developed countries.
This idea came to be known as the Singer Prebisch Hypothesis. In other words, countries which rely
on exports of agricultural products would eventually grow less quickly than other countries whose
main exports were manufactured goods. Hence, the key to economic

Paul Mccartney s Contributions Of The Beatles
Paul McCartney was born June 18, 1942, in Liverpool, England. His contribution in the Beatles in
the 1960s helped pop music ascend from its origins in the entertainment business and morphed it
into a highly respected creative commercial art form. He also remains as one of the most
prominent solo performers of all time in terms of both recordings at his concerts and sales of his
attendants.
Sir James Paul McCartney was born on June 18, 1942, in Liverpool, England, to James and Mary

Paul McCartney felt comfortable playing with him, later joining Lennon s band, the Quarrymen.
By the early 60s, the band had changed their name to a new nickname, The Beatles. The band
included George Harrison, Richard Starkey and Stuart Sutcliffe. These musicians soon to be
world famous started playing in Hamburg, Germany, spending a couple of years playing at
multiple pubs there. Stuart left the band early, leaving Paul to pick up the bass becoming the new
bass player. During their stay in Hamburg, the Beatles recorded their first songs, acquiring the
attention of Brian Epstein, who rapidly signed on as the Beatle s manager. Pete Best was replaced
by drummer Ringo Starr who only helped the group gain attention.
The effect that the Beatles would have on 60s music popular culture is difficult to exaggerate.
Beatlemania soon struck the world and mainstream media, and when the band made their debut in
the USA, the media mixed the period of musical crossover between the two nations the British
Invasion. However, they didn t know that this era would truly have a lasting impact on rock n roll
music.
In 1967, the band suffered a tragic loss, when their manager Brian Epstein passed away. From that
point onwards, the Beatles began to lose their unified creative focus, and all four members began
to develop their own individual ambitions. In 1969, Paul married his first wife Linda, whom he d

Robert was interested in geology and was said to have even contacted locally famous geologist to
discuss the rock formations he observed in Central Park. At the age of 17 Oppenheimer began

Then at the age of 22 he was invited to team up with Max Born at Gottingen University in
Germany. There he developed the Born Oppenheimer Method. This method was an important
addition to the Quantum Molecular Theory. Quantum theory is the origin of modern physics that
explains the behavior and nature of matter and energy on the atomic and subatomic plane. He left
Gottingen in 1927 with his PhD and a mark in the world of Quantum theory and Theoretical
physics. A year later Robert began as an associate professor at Berkley while having a joint
appointment at the California Institute of Technology, commuting between the two for the next 13

Causes and Effects of the Civil War Essay
Did you know America s bloodiest battle fought on their own soil was the Civil War? The Civil
War was fought on American soil between the northern states and the southern states. Many causes
provoked the war, which would affect the nation for decades to come. Slavery, the Missouri
Compromise, and John Brown s attack on Harpers Ferry, Virginia, were some of the many causes.
In turn hundreds of thousands of soldiers died, the South s economy was devastated, and the
northern ideals flourished.
In the later 1700 s to 1863, slavery was an intricate part of the South. Slaves were needed for
plantation work like planting, caring for, and harvesting crops to maintaining the land. After...

The Missouri Compromise stated Missouri would be a slave state and Maine would be carved out
of Massachusetts and created into a non slave state. The Missouri Compromise really angered the
North, contributing to the Civil War.
In May of 1856, Congressman Preston Brooks of South Carolina entered the nearly empty senate
chamber and beat Massachusetts Senator Charles Sumner with a cane. Brooks felt violated by
Sumner s Crime Against Kansas speech, which provoked the retaliation. This attack spread the
idea that violence might be able to solve the problem of slavery. In October 1859, abolitionist
John Brown, led a violent attack. He and his band of 21 men and attacked the federal arsenal at
Harpers Ferry, Virginia. They hoped to spark a slave rebellion that would end slavery, and in John
Brown s words, purge this land with blood. Brown s attack was one of the final causes that sparked
the Civil War.
When the Civil War finally concluded, thousands of American soldiers died fighting for what they
believed in. The Confederate army lost a total of 258,000 soldiers and the Union army lost 360,000
soldiers. The loss of so many people immensely harmed the nation mentally and economically.
Almost everybody had a family, relative, or friend that died in the Civil War. Half of the lives lost
were farmers in the South, which devastated the South s economy because these farmers were also

In less than an hour after take off at 1:20 MYT, Malaysia Airline lost contact with air traffic
controls. Malaysia Airlines reported for the missing flight at 7:24 MYT carrying 239 passengers
including 12 Malaysian crew.
The disappearance and supposedly crashed flight MH370 disturbed consumer confidence in the
airline with share prices falling. In a span of four months, another Malaysia Airline was shot down
over Ukraine. Even with the planned route airline earned criticism for travelling over conflict zone.
Malaysia Airlines was struggling for cost cutting to compete with a wave of new, low cost
without a distress signal. They lost almost US $137.4 million in the first quarter of 2014.
Malaysian Airlines made no profit since 2010. In last three years, Malaysia Airlines booked
losses of US $1.25 billion. The company s stock fell by 20% following the disappearance of
Flight MH370 and had fallen 80% over the previous five years. Following the disappearance,
ticket sale had declined. Especially in China it was down by 60% in the month of March. Also,
there was a spike in resignation from the flight crew though it was below industry norms.

An example of active transport would be pushing a stroller up a hill. Passive transport is
diffusion across a membrane requiring only random motion of molecules with no energy
expanded by the cell. Another example of passive transport would be rolling a ball down a hill.
In the rubber egg lab also known as the osmosis lab, I first measured the circumference of the
egg which was 6 inches. The egg had no cracks and was hard. I placed the egg in the vinegar and
within seconds the egg started to bubble. These bubbles were carbon dioxide. After 72 hours the
shell of the egg had started to dissolve or flake. This would be considered passive transport as
the vinegar diffused across the egg shell without any force. Seventy two hours into the
experiment the membrane was exposed, and had a circumference of 8 inches. Before the egg
had a shell and you couldn t see through it but once the vinegar acted as an acetic acid it broke
down the shell and left a yellow membrane that felt like rubber this is an example of diffusion. I
then placed the egg in another container and put corn syrup over the egg for 24 hours. The egg
had shriveled and shrunk, the water had left the egg and went into the syrup and that is what
caused the egg to shrink. The corn syrup is essentially pure sugar with very little water so the
osmotic pressure is very low. I then placed the shriveled egg in water and waited for another 24
hours. After observation the egg had no

Pros And Cons Of College Tuition
College tuition should not be free in any means necessary. Students would not take college
seriously if there was no price. College students would totally take advantage of the opportunity to
go to college for free and completely blow it , it would even the playing field for everyone to be
equal because college tuitionis what keeps everyone else out. College would then be accessible to
anyone who wanted to go. Tuitionis put in place for a reason. It shouldn t be lifted because if it is
the government will end up having to come out of more money to fund the things that more of
the college students need as such as books, computer labs etc. By the government needing more
funding that would mean the taxpayers taxes would have to increase without their say so it
wouldn t even be an option. According to dissent magazine, Bruenig (2015 ) states The main
problem with free college is that most students come from disproportionately well off
backgrounds and already enjoy disproportionately well off futures, which makes them relatively
uncompelling targets for public transfers with that being stated . I feel like no one should get a
free handout especially those who are of the well off status. Why should they get everything so
easy? Make them work for it. By making tuition free you would just basically be handing them a
degree without having to work hard for it. when there is money at hand, (tuition) college is
taken seriously. Can you imagine how would society be impacted if tuition be free. The world
be equal because the playing field would be neutral territory. Everyone would be granted the
same opportunity to earn money at a higher pay rate and looked upon with great gratitude just
for receiving a degree. Colleges would be extremely too crowded, resources would be extremely
scarce as far as paper, textbooks, etc. referring to Bruenig (2015) Given these class based
differences in attendance levels, institutional selection, and current student benefit levels, making
college free for everyone would almost certainly mean giving far more money to students from
richer families than from poorer ones . This statement is totally correct. Why would we put more
money in the pockets of those who are well off?. In

Positive And Negative Effects Of Religion And Corruption
According to Seldadyo and Haan there are both positive and negative effects of religion on
corruption. Such results can be explained by diversity of religions and their moralities. Since this
issue requires deeper estimations, it is difficult to make conclusion for that determinant. However
Pleskov, Subarna and Zadeh in their article Religion as a Determinant of Corruption Evidence from
OPEC and OECD countries examines the role of religion in the corruption, and find out that this
factor can not be ignored. Returning to the question how religion affects corruption it would be

strong deterrence effects and is also an effective way to punish those guilty of corruption.
Punishment by imprisonment and capital execution will have much stronger deterrence effects
because the opportunity costs for corrupters will be relatively higher if they are put in jail or even

not only the direct costs of jail administration and other related expenses, but also the foregone

To look at every mythology as true, and not as blasphemous as some mythologies do, one allows
themselves to see the world as Joseph Campbell did, as a world of mythological commonalities
amongst peoples throughout time and location. If such commonalities exist then where do they
come from? How could it be that throughout thousands of years, across thousands of miles
different groups of peoples share the same basic thought processes or ideas? In his book
Primitive Mythology Campbell provides a possible explanation observable in nature called Sign
Stimulus. Sign Stimulus is an energy...understood by the body as being important or effects one
emotionally in some way. (Primitive Mythology Campbell pg. 40 41) To help the reader
understand this concept Campbell provides an example in a nature, a baby bird that instinctively
knows the image of its natural predator (a hawk) and the correct response to the image (hide).
How does the baby bird know what a hawk looks like and how does it know to run away from it,
if it has never seen one before? Campbell suggests that Sign Stimulus is an ingrained image or

animal. In relation to mythology it is logical that humanity, as a member of the Animal

Famine From A Socioeconomic Theoretical Lens
According to Kutzner, author of world hunger, there is enough food to feed everyone in the world.
With much of the world s agriculture being produced out of developing countries, (Kutzner), the
root causes of starvation is within the economic and political factors keeping countries in poverty.
Although natural catastrophes and environmental problems for food production have contributed to
the food securityissue in third world countries such as Ethiopia and Malawi, the Faminecrisis in
these countries is man made, and is ultimately the result of issues including government policies on
food markets and exports. In analyzing the root causes of food insecurity in the two developing
countries Ethiopia and Malawi, I will be focusing on man made famine from a socioeconomic
theoretical lens, focusing on factors such as population, employment, and poverty. I have come to
the hypothesis that famine in these two countries is made made due to the policies that keep these
countries from modernizing. I predict that due to the current economic conditions, the issue will not
be resolved any time soon.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines food security as existing when all people at all
times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life
(who.com). The basic elements of food security includes having a large enough food supply to
meet nutritional needs, as well as having the access to attain this food (Kutzner). In a wider

Descartes Myth-Gilbert Ryle
Gilbert RyleВ’s The Concept of Mind
Gilbert Ryle (1900 76) was a philosopher who taught at Oxford and who made important
contributions to the philosophy of mind and to ordinary language philosophy. His most important
writings included Philosophical Arguments (1945), The Concept of Mind (1949), Dilemmas
(1954), Plato s Progress (1966), and On Thinking (1979).
The Concept of Mind (1949) is a critique of the notion that the mind is distinct from the body, and
it is a rejection of the theory that mental states are separable from physical states. According to
Ryle, the classical theory of mind, as represented by Cartesian rationalism, asserts that there is a

The nature of a personВ’s motives may be defined by the actions and reactions of that person in

Ryle criticizes the theory that the mind is a place where mental images are apprehended, perceived,

The Negative Effects Of Internet Addiction Disorder
Have you ever left your phone at home and became anxious? Have you ever ditched your friends
to stay home and play online games? You may be suffering from Internet Addiction Disorder or
IAD. Internet Addiction Disorder drives people to overuse technology and create a variety of
behavioral problems with impulse control (Saliceti 1372). People turn to the Internet as an escape
into a world that does not have real life consequences and they are just able to run free. However,
people who use the Internet or a form of technology will not be able to put it down sometimes for
hours. If Internet users don t step away from their computers or smart devices, negative influences
revolving around this technology will begin to consume one s independence and deteriorate social
interaction.
Since the Internet was introduced to the world in the early 1990s, it has been slowly infecting
society. It has taken about twenty years for the internet to impact all aspects of our lives. It seems
that most people today would have difficulty imagining life without using the Internet on a daily
basis. Internet Addiction Disorder was first brought to light back in 1996 by Kimberly Young in a
seminal paper called Internet Addiction: The emergence of a new clinical disorder . She proposed
Internet Addiction in a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition (DSM 4),
which is a classification of mental health disorders (Ginige).

Bartolome Esteban Murillo St. Francis At Prayer Analysis
Bartolome Esteban Murillo, St. Francis of Assisi at Prayer (1645 1650)
In the painting St. Francis is barefoot purposefully in accordance with his chosen lifestyle.
Francis choice the live in poverty originates from a sermon he heard in 1209 on Mathew 10:9,
which states, Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts, (New American Bible). Verses 5 15
of Mathew is the commissioning of the twelve disciples in which Jesus tells them to go, without
money or shoes, to preach about His coming (Catholic Encyclopedia). This inspired Francis to
preach the gospel, which was abnormal because he was not an ordained priest. Regardless, within
a year he had eleven followers or friars that chose to live simply with him. In 1209 he also wrote
the Regula primitiva which means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Peace and mercy be to all who follow the rule and to the Israel of God. From now on, let no one
make troubles for me; for I bear the marks of Jesus on my body. The grace of our Lord Jesus
Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. Amen, (New American Bible). St. Paul indicates
the Gospel or Good News is not just for Jews, but for all people. He then says that he belongs to
Christ through the marks of Jesus on my body in which he refers to physical wounds received from
his persecution. This relates to St Francis of Assisi at Prayer in that Francis is painted with a tear
in his robe in which the viewer can see a wound upon his chest. The knots in the rope around his
waist are important as well in that it represents the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. The
skull next to the cross is also of consequence in that it is a symbol associated with St. Francis and
serves to remind of the mortality of

Racial Zoning Research Paper
Distinguished in chapters three and four of The Color of Law, racial zoning is a way for
organizations to manipulate and control what neighborhoods African Americans and other ethnic
minority groups reside in. Due to this, many of African Americans viewed racial zoning as a
serious threat to their well being in the United States. With the help of Jim Crow laws, exclusionary
zoning, and the On Your Own Home campaign, banks and real estate agents had provoked
economic discrimination towards various ethnic minority groups. Furthermore, through the
concepts of dysfunctionalism, social inequality, latent functionalism, and Eurocentrism as seen in
The Real World, racial zoning has negatively affected African Americans from breaking out of what
the world considers them to be.

With this intention, banks and real estate agents will no longer be readily available in urban
communities, but in suburban regions. The reasoning for this stem back to the overall goal of
keeping African Americans separate from whites. Now, however, without banks and real estate
agents, urban communities do not have the same privilege as someone from a suburban household.
This is viewed through the concepts of social inequality and Eurocentrism because of the
unwillingness of whites; there is an unequal distribution of prestige regarding African American
rights. In conclusion, African Americans were targeted for the ideology of racial zoning. Jim Crow
laws, exclusionary zoning, and the On Your Own Home campaign, all helped support this ideology
and furthermore established what concepts simulated these policies. Dysfunctionalism, social

with their big engines, loud exhaust, and crazy paint jobs. In the 1930s and 1940s shade tree
mechanics began turning model T and model A fords into super crazy hotrods ( Beginning 1).
Muscle cars have changed the world since the 1930s because of their good looks, sounds and
pure American performance. In the 1940s regular mechanics began to be infatuated with speed
and drag racing. However, that infatuation turned deadly when they began to street race and get in
terrible crashes. Around this time a small group of people saw the need to create a national
sanctioning body for drag racing on a closed course, and this became known as the National... Show

Public Parks And Other Public Spaces In Los Angeles Echo Park

I will explore who came up with the idea of public parks, and why public parks and other public
spaces exist, as well as, take a deeper look at the history of one of Los Angeles oldest parks, Echo
Park.
The American Industrial Revolution was a period where major changes in manufacturing,
transportation, and technology greatly influenced the social and economic conditions in America.
The production of goods usually took place in home businesses and were crafted by hand. With
the introduction of machine aided factories, the volume and variety of goods greatly increased,

As the servicemen who fought in World War I returned to the city
, Echo Park had the biggest
development boom in its entire history. Where there had been farmhouses or vacant lots,
builders added Spanish style courtyards and apartments with arched windows and red tiled roofs
around the lake (Erickson, Echo Park Historical Society ). One of the biggest attractions sat just
at the north end of the lake across the street. Founded by Aimee Semple McPherson in 1923, the
Angelus Temple drew enormous crowds to the lake so they could listen to her radio program. The
boom didn t stop there. In 1924 a series of storefronts opened one block from the lake, giving Echo
Park its first shopping district. New businesses and recreation centers continued to sprout up all
around Echo Park, but in 1929, when the stock market crashed, everything came to a screeching
halt.
From 1870 till today, Echo Park Lake has endured many hardships. In the past It has been

Dugesia Spp Research Paper
Dugesia spp., also known as planaria is a small flat dark brown worm of varying sizes around
0.3 2 cm long and 1 2 mm wide (Palmer and Fowler, 1975 as cited by Cha, 2001). Although they
are small, they are hermaphroditic (Maule, 2006). The middle of the body is darker in color
with tiny spots. The body consists of an arrow shaped head and a long unsegmented body that
narrows as it reaches the posterior end (T. Huang, biology student, personal communications).
Midway down the ventral side of its body, the pharynx is a tube like structure that protrudes out
for feeding (Cha, 2001). The body is smooth and stretches in contracting and expanding
movements as the Dugesia spp. travels around a flat surface (T. Huang, biology student,
personal communications). The two side parts of the arrow that extends out of its head are
sensory organs, the auricles (Cha, 2001). The auricles help sense water currents so that the
Dugesia spp. is aware of the direction of water flow (Kriska and Gyorgy, 2013). Dugesia spp. has
tiny eyes called eyespots located on the dorsal side of its arrow head. The eyespots can detect
light and are extremely sensitive to light (Cha, 2001). Dugesia spp. lives in freshwater bodies like

The King, A Man With Broad Shoulders And A Muscular Build
This morning, the king received word that a fire snorting dragon was again terrorizing the
countryside. It is scaring the people of his kingdom, and they want to leave their land. He
summoned his legion of knights and advisors to the castle for a meeting. Once before the king
sent the royal knights into the area, they tried to stop the giant lizard from roaming the lowlands
and raising havoc in the kingdom. The knights, in their shiny armor, could not slay the animal.
Only chase him back into the mountains. Should he return to the valleys and fields they would
have no option, but to slay him. The king, a tall man with broad shoulders and a muscular build,
is a respected leader on or off the battlefield. He ordered the tables in the grand ballroom, pushed
together to form a square letter U. The knights and advisers will be sitting on the outside of the
tables. The king, wearing his blue robe with the royal crest, will walk back and forth on the inside
of the tables. Looking troubled, the king rested his right hand on the handle of his sword. As he
walked by looking at the people sitting on the other side of the table, he would, from time to time
stroke his white beard with his left hand. With a stern and demanding look on his face, the king
made eye contact with each person sitting on the other side of the tableas he walked by. Stopping
when he got to Titus, the king looked the boy for a moment, and then started to walk away.

Carlos is someone worth evaluating because one, he is someone who is reckless. Carlos is
considered reckless in the book because of a few reasons. One reason is that Carlos said in the book
that I want to live life on my own terms(Elkeles 1) , so he is saying he doesn t wanna follow any
rules and he wants to do things on his own terms. The second reason he is viewed as reckless is
because the first thing he does when he moves to Colorado is join a Mexican gang that tries to
make him into a drug lord. While Carlos is considered reckless or tough, he is also soft hearted, or
has a soft side. A few explanations for Carlos s soft side is first off when he goes to live with his
professor he falls in love with his daughter like a day or two after he moved in. Another reason for
Carlos s softer side is that when he does fall in love with Kiara he falls in love with her really fast

Mary Tyrone s Actual Happy Ending
Grief does not change you. It reveals you was said by the author, John Green who wrote The
Fault in Our Stars. This quote, however, relates directly to Eugene O Neill s play, Long Day s
Journey into Night. Grief from the past will not change an individual; however the event will
mold the person s future. Eugene O Neill s life helped to create the phenomenal writer he was
because of his personal experiences. In Eugene O Neill s play, Long Day s Journey into Night, the
characterization of Mary Tyrone demonstrates a sense of loss through her loneliness, addictionand
unconditional love for her family. The sense of loss in the Tyrone household is supported by the
constant reminder of Mary s loneliness and isolation. During her drug induced hallucinations, Mary
returns to a life that she was happier in; when she was younger and only had one child, Jamie. She
is completely isolated from her family and the rest of her community. Being a morphineaddict,
Mary skips many of the family meals complaining that she is not hungry. Skipping daily meals,
which symbolize communion in a family, isolates her from the family. Mary moans about the
past and her happy life by articulating how their summer house is not a real home because she is
always lonely, In a real home one is never lonely. You forget I know from experience what a home
is like. I gave up one to marry you my father s home (74). What Mary considers to be her utopian

  • 2. A Live Action Documentary Of The History And Its Impact On... The film contains two narratives, a live action documentary of the history of textile mills in the United States and a cartoon drama about people dealing with the struggles typical in the early years of this industry. Although they are interwoven with each other in the film, these narratives will be summarized separately in this essay for the sake of clarity, first the documentary section, and second, the cartoon, but reflected upon as a unit to better focus on the impact of the film as a whole. The documentary section details the evolution of technology in the era and its impact on society, beginning with a description of what things were like in the United States prior to the appearance of mills, noting that everything had to be done manually. In New England, the creation of clothing typically involved shearing sheep for their wool, followed by cleaning and carding the wool, making it into slivers, spinning the slivers into thread, and weaving the thread into cloth, and sewing the pieces of cloth together into clothing. Tools such as the loom and spinning wheel aided in the process, but they had to be operated manually. Water wheels had previously been used to power the grinding of grain. Eventually, in Europe, they also came to be used to power machines that handled carding, then machines called water frames that spun multiple slivers at once, thus drastically increasing the production of yarn. Spinning mills were established, generating numerous jobs. Although, in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of Drunk Driving On The Road Of Driving Oluwaseyi Isola Prof. Laura Baltuska English 101 015 29 November, 2016 Under the Influence Is Under Arrest What is one of the most evil and deadly acts? Drunk driving? Oh no! These two words together are uncordial behaviors. The crime of driving a vehicle or operating a motorized machine while under the influence of alcohol is totally against the law of the land, but some people still won t stop. Is there any gain in drunk driving than loss of lives, loss of driving privileges, and property vehicles? One third of traffic deaths involve alcohol impaired driving (MADD). Therefore, a behavior that involves a tiny proportion of drivers is one of the key causes of death on the roads. This is an indication that retaining the licenses of drivers involved in drunk driving is not enough to deter drunk driving because some people in this category are still driving even though their licenses have been suspended or revoked. For this reason, it is necessary to adopt more strict measures to deal with the problem. In particular, drunk driving can be prevented through the use of ignition interlock systems and sobriety checkpoints at an individual level while a school based instructional program can help to prevent the problem at a community level. To begin with, drunk driving is a serious menace to Americans on the road, as it contributes to a large number of traffic deaths and injuries. In 2012, for instance, over 10,000 people lost their lives from crashes attributed to drunk driving. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Langston Hughes The Negro Artist And The Racial Mountain Langston Hughes , The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain claimed that African Americans face racial and cultural challenges with finding their own identity in a society mainly influenced by Eurocentric American culture. More specifically, Hughes discussed the challenges of African American artists in embracing their black and remaining successful. Hughes recalled a conversation with a black poet, who stated that I want to be a poet not a Negro poet, (Hughes, 964). Hughes interpreted his statement to mean that subconsciously he wanted to be white. He used this conversation and others to support his beliefs about African Americanidentity and culture. • 5. Barbara Ehrenreich s Your Local News-Dateline Delhi International relations is a topic that is constantly changing and can be very fragile. In the article, Your Local News Dateline Delhi Barbara Ehrenreich, a respected journalist, shares her personal insights into the outsourcing of American jobs to foreign lands. Ehrenreich s cynical attitude, use of dry humor, and rhetorical questions makes this daunting subject easier to take in. Fareed Zakaria, a well known author, explains the globalized world and where outsourcingfits, in an excerpt from his book, The Post American World. Zakaria looks back in history to show the reader how the world came to this globalizing moment , then he hypothesizes the future of the global economy by piecing together all of the elements. Ehrenreich shows... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everybody has their own worries and opinions, so they choose to care about different things. Barbara Ehrenreich puts it this way, The world may be flat, as New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman has written, but I always liked to think that I was standing on a bit of a hill (608). The truth about outsourcing flies over the heads of many Americans, but hits Ehrenreich right in the face. She writes this article because it s a journalist s job is to take in new information that may be hard to understand or meant to be kept on the down low and convey it in a way that s appealing to many. She implicitly blames CEOs and other high class positions for some of the more outrageous and negative outsourcing situations. Zakaria directly addresses this problem stating: There is a growing gap between America s worldly business elite and cosmopolitan class, on the other hand, and the majority of the American people, on the other (622). America s worldly business elite and cosmopolitan class are the ones that understand and control outsourcing, while the rest of Americans stay uninformed and are the real victims of outsourcing. Zakaria describes the rise of the rest as the third major tectonic power shift. His theory, which makes perfect sense, implies that these power shifts are a natural occurrence. According to Zakaria, the third shift shouldn t hurt America and Americans shouldn t feel threatened or worried by it. The thing that Americans should be worried about is the growing gap of power that exists between the elite business class and the rest of Americans. Because the higher class only looks out for themselves and only seeks profit for the firms that they control, many negative things are happening to the lower class, the biggest being the outsourcing of their jobs. This gap in power is what Zakaria thinks could hurt America and make it impossible to adapt to the more globalized world. Americans need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits and prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals, and preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as blood feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. In these actions, the church deeply penetrated the legal and moral foundations of society. This is another example of how the Christianization of Russia started to shape politics and the culture of Russia specifically from some of the earliest times of Russian society. (133, Engelstein)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These church people were under the church s jurisdiction and direct control and included monks, the clergy, church employees and their families, among others. (134, Engelstein) From its inception, the church served as a social welfare organization for the weakest and least fortunate elements of society who were threatened by death or slavery in these barbaric times. In this instance, the church acted as guardian as well as the government. This is yet another example of the construction of influence the church had in shaping Russian culture and government. • 7. The Bibliography Of Heady Lamarr Part 1: The Bibliography of Heady Lamarr Hedy Lamarr was born Hedwig Maria Eva Kiesler in Vienna, Austria on November 9, 1914 to Emil and Gertrud Kiesler. According to several sources Hedy was extremely spoiled by her father as he doted on her constantly and encouraged her love of scientific exploration, conversely her mother Gertrud was reportedly much sterner with Hedy. According to Hedy and her family, Hedy s goal was always to be an actress so it was no surprise to her contemporaries when she dropped out of school to join the theater. It s important to note that the theater was a well respected well attended media outlet in Vienna at that time, the culture of Vienna was accepting and often based on the philosophy and biases expressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is how Hedy gained the knowledge necessary to work with George Antheil in the development of the Secret Communication System . The biggest issue for Hedy while she was married to Friz was that she was not allowed to work, she described her marriage to him as Being kept in the Gilded Cage and she eventually had to escape the marriage and flee to Paris. This is where she eventually met up Louis B Mayer, a talent scout in Europe, who helped her move to America, change her name to Hedy Lamarr, and begin her Hollywood career. Furthermore interesting is that after Hedy patented her invention, the Navy denied to use it; stating that it just took up too much space onboard their already over packed ships. But Hedy had a will to help with the war efforts, so she went on a campaign to sell war bonds through the influence of her celebrity status. After which she continued her film career for a total of 33 movies [3], raised three children one of which she adopted, and married and divorced five more times. Hedy eventually died on January 19, 2000 in her home in Casselberry, FL, ironically enough she spent most of her last few years in seclusion only communicating with her family via a cellphone, the very technology her invention helped create. • 8. The Worldwide Problem of Deforestation Deforestation is an increasingly prevalent problem worldwide. About half of the forests that once covered the Earth are now gone, much of which has happened in just the past few decades. Forests have been cleared mostly for fuel, building materials, and land for farming. Deforestation has been expanding and accelerating into the little amount of forests that remain across the world. Not only do forests provide useful products, but they also influence the Earths climate and are home to a remarkable amount of biological diversity. Deforestation has taken a lot of these elements away, and has also led to an increase in carbon dioxide. Without trees to use the increasing amounts of carbon dioxide put out by humans, the carbon dioxide simply remains in the atmosphere. Until recently, most of the deforestation happened in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. In the last few decades though, the majority of deforestation has occurred in the tropics. It is estimated that Latin America and Asia have already lost 40% of their original forest (University of Michigan). In most of these countries, deforestation is also accelerating. There are many causes for deforestation, including population pressure, social and political forces, and profits. The increasing need for palm oil in today s world accounts for much of the deforestation occurring in many tropical countries such as Indonesia. Palm oil is extremely versatile and is used in cooking, cosmetics, and biofuels. Palm oil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Lather And Nothing Else Symbolism Lather and Nothing Else, a story that takes place in South America around the time of the early 1900 s. The atmosphere that revolves around the story consists of suspense, worry, and tension; keeping the reader intrigued. By using first person point of view, the reader doesn t know the thoughts of the enemy (Torres). Yet the author s use of symbolism, irony, and first person point of view is very effective. It allows the reader to establish a deeper emotional connection to the scenario being put forth in front of them and increasing the level of tension throughout the story. The perspective of Lather and Nothing Else is in first person. The author s decision to write the piece in this perspective is very effective because it has the ability to show the in depth emotions, thoughts, and personality of the town barber. The reader can view the character in all directions, gaining empathy and sympathy for him. Also, it gives the reader great insight into the conflict of the story (the dilemma inside of the barber s head) and let us see all the things the barber must consider in order to make his decision of remaining a barber, or becoming a murderer.... • 10. Rule of law in India Rule of law in India When the rule of law disappears, we are ruled by the whims of men Tiffany Madison Introduction What does rule of law mean? In laymen terms, law should rule, people should obey the law. The earliest form of this type of governance could be traced back to 1750 BC. The Hammurabi code, popularly known as an eye for an eye , off course it was the most primitive form of law which was used to obtain justice. In a democratic nation especially India, our constitution is the supreme law. Although the term rule of law is not used in our constitution anywhere, it is accepted that India is a country which is governed by rule of law. However it finds its place in the constitution as an underlying principle1 and hence this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows the judiciary to be incorruptible, which in my opinion is important for judiciary to uphold the laws. The remedy to approach the Supreme Court in case of infringement of fundamental right under article 32, itself is a fundamental right. The judiciary over the years has strengthened this powers by 1) by declaring judicial review as a basic feature of the constitution and making it non amendable by the parliament.2) Introducing the concept of Public interest litigation which enables the masses to reach justice. 3) It also has the power to look into the constitutional amendments. The above mentioned aspects of the judiciary are effective in upholding the law. Independent judiciary armed with such powers is important for sustaining rule of law. In reality, there are certain aspects of our judiciary which interferes with sustainability of rule of law. The judiciary is a separate body and their accountability is limited, the judges might start to act above the law and there are not many effective checks on the judiciary. The idea of establishing National Judicial Council to check the activities of the judiciary has been discussed for a long time but no progress has been made yet.4 Apart from the above loopholes, the biggest problem of the Indian courts I feel is the delay in the judgments. Many cases go on for decades, the popular example being the royal family case in Bengal which has been going for 175 years now.5 The delay of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the trip, I experienced many awkward and embarrassing situations that I wish I didn t have to live through. Even though there were powerful worship services, memories made, and friendships formed, the week was pretty hectic. There were three particular incidents that really stick out when I think of Missions Trip 2016. These incidents include an atrocious crew and crew leader, a flirtatious man, and a scary church where we stayed. The first incident happened upon being assigned to an awful crew. In Tennessee, air conditioning is the obvious choice. All the youth groups were separated into different rooms, when usually each youth group has their own rooms. I didn t enjoy that. • 17. Criminal Justice System And The Law System INTRODUCTION Developing information suggests that a criminal justice system gains practical value by generating societal views of fair enforcement and judgement. Particularly, views of practical fairness resulting in views of the system s legality, may promote systemic compliance with applicable law, support with legal institutions and actors, and respect to even negative outcomes. A separate information alludes that a criminal justice system derives realistic value by allocating criminal legal responsibility and punishment according to principles that trail general instincts of justice. Distinctively, views of applicable justice resulting in views of the system s ethical credibility would seem to promote compliance, support, and respect. By contrast, a criminal justice system alleged to be procedurally unfair or basically unjust may incite resistance and agitation, and may lose its capacity to control powerful social and normative influence. Trust in the Law by T.R. Tyler and Y. J. Huo pursues to explain why people eagerly comply with legal authorities. One method by which compliance might be achieved is through the threat of sanctions that would be associated with noncompliance. This avoidance approach, the authors indicate, is less optimal than having people consent without persuasion. Their central notion is that such willingness to comply critically depends upon a strong sense that legal authorities are legitimate. This sense of legitimacy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Neil Jacobstein s Analysis Neil Jacobstein, an AI expert who has consulted on projects for the U.S. military, GM, and Ford, has thought of a solution for AI becoming too powerful, or superintelligent. Deep learning is a part of AI created to help it accomplish tasks on their own. But if AI starts to learn on its own, there is the fear of the Terminator style robot emerging down the road. As AI becomes more powerful, there is the question of making sure we are monitoring its objectives at it understands them, Jacobstein said. However, he did propose a solution: A control system to shut AI down. If something does go wrong, and in most systems it occasionally does, how quickly can we get the system back on track? That s often by having multiple redundant pathways for establishing control, he said (Muoio). Another way we can make sure AI does not go haywire is by programming Isaac Asimov s laws of robotics into AI. The three laws are: a robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm; a robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law; a robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. • 22. How Trade Policies Affect Economic Growth And Development One puzzle of the world economy is that... Why are some countries so much richer than other? Or to put it differently, why have some economies per capita income been growing at faster rates than others? Most likely, there are numerous factors that play a role. This essay is an attempt to enumerate and discuss at least some factors. A satisfactory understanding of economic growth also requires an appreciation of how countries interact with each other, because countries income levels are interdependent. Trade policies help foster these interactions between countries (and businesses). The question of how trade policies affect economic growth and development has become a controversial topic. After World War 2, colonial areas that gained independence after the war believed they could reach higher income levels like their former colonizer only through rapid government controlled industrialization. Many developing countries adopted measures intended to reduce their independence on the export of primary goods (such as coffee, copper, and wheat). The justification for such policies came from a belief that demand of primary goods to manufactures would decline in the future due to technological progress in developed countries. This idea came to be known as the Singer Prebisch Hypothesis. In other words, countries which rely on exports of agricultural products would eventually grow less quickly than other countries whose main exports were manufactured goods. Hence, the key to economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The egg had no cracks and was hard. I placed the egg in the vinegar and within seconds the egg started to bubble. These bubbles were carbon dioxide. After 72 hours the shell of the egg had started to dissolve or flake. This would be considered passive transport as the vinegar diffused across the egg shell without any force. Seventy two hours into the experiment the membrane was exposed, and had a circumference of 8 inches. • 28. Pros And Cons Of College Tuition College tuition should not be free in any means necessary. Students would not take college seriously if there was no price. College students would totally take advantage of the opportunity to go to college for free and completely blow it , it would even the playing field for everyone to be equal because college tuitionis what keeps everyone else out. College would then be accessible to anyone who wanted to go. Tuitionis put in place for a reason. It shouldn t be lifted because if it is the government will end up having to come out of more money to fund the things that more of the college students need as such as books, computer labs etc. By the government needing more funding that would mean the taxpayers taxes would have to increase without their say so it wouldn t even be an option. According to dissent magazine, Bruenig (2015 ) states The main problem with free college is that most students come from disproportionately well off backgrounds and already enjoy disproportionately well off futures, which makes them relatively uncompelling targets for public transfers with that being stated . I feel like no one should get a free handout especially those who are of the well off status. Why should they get everything so easy? Make them work for it. By making tuition free you would just basically be handing them a degree without having to work hard for it. when there is money at hand, (tuition) college is taken seriously. Can you imagine how would society be impacted if tuition be free. The world be equal because the playing field would be neutral territory. With much of the world s agriculture being produced out of developing countries, (Kutzner), the root causes of starvation is within the economic and political factors keeping countries in poverty. Although natural catastrophes and environmental problems for food production have contributed to the food securityissue in third world countries such as Ethiopia and Malawi, the Faminecrisis in these countries is man made, and is ultimately the result of issues including government policies on food markets and exports. In analyzing the root causes of food insecurity in the two developing countries Ethiopia and Malawi, I will be focusing on man made famine from a socioeconomic theoretical lens, focusing on factors such as population, employment, and poverty. I have come to the hypothesis that famine in these two countries is made made due to the policies that keep these countries from modernizing. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines food security as existing when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life (who.com). You may be suffering from Internet Addiction Disorder or IAD. Internet Addiction Disorder drives people to overuse technology and create a variety of behavioral problems with impulse control (Saliceti 1372). However, people who use the Internet or a form of technology will not be able to put it down sometimes for hours. If Internet users don t step away from their computers or smart devices, negative influences revolving around this technology will begin to consume one s independence and deteriorate social interaction. Since the Internet was introduced to the world in the early 1990s, it has been slowly infecting society. It has taken about twenty years for the internet to impact all aspects of our lives. It seems that most people today would have difficulty imagining life without using the Internet on a daily basis. Internet Addiction Disorder was first brought to light back in 1996 by Kimberly Young in a seminal paper called Internet Addiction: The emergence of a new clinical disorder .
