The Death Penalty Should Be Legal Essay
Throughout the United States an argumentative topic is the death penalty should it be legalized across
the 50 states or be declared unconstitutional? Some believe the death penalty is a better option for
those who deserve the highest form of punishment available. However, others argue capital
punishment is a waste of resources and should be brought to an end. Therefore, while many believe
the death penalty should be legalized throughout the United States because it offers a higher form of
punishment, others believe the death penalty should be repealed because it causes unnecessary deaths.
Many believe the death penalty has recently been discovered; although, it originated in the B.C. era.
For example, the earliest forms of government had introduced the death penalty for those who had
committed large offences. One researcher writes, Death Penalty laws can be traced back as far as the
18th century B.C. when the Code of King Hammurabi established death as the penalty for 25 different
crimes ( Capital Punishment Timeline ). He claims the death penalty started before anyone would have
thought; it had been used during the B.C. era. Hammurabi used this as the highest punishment for the
most offensive crimes one could commit. Hammurabi had first developed the idea of an eye for an
eye, meaning if one commits a horrific crime then the same horrific crime shall be done to him.
Although it began in B.C. era, criminal punishment is still used today. Some of the most

Is Inequality Natural
Is Inequality Natural? During the Enlightenment era, a critical concept addressed by many prominent
authors was the equality of humankind. In Enlightenment terms, inequality can be defined as the
difference in qualities capable of demanding respect (Rousseau 1995: 425), such as strength or skill,
as well as difference in civil rights and liberties of man. Both definitions will be used in this essay, as
well as how they are related. In Jean Jacques Rousseau s Discourse on the Origin of Inequality, nature,
or the natural state of man, is portrayed as man before the rise of any social order. This essay will
analyze man in this natural state to determine that humans are naturally unequal, and it is only through
submission to a social contract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen (DRMC) states that, Men are born and remain
free and equal in rights (French Nat. Assembly 1995: 467). So, using this logic, yes, humans are equal
and entitled to the same rights and freedom of every other human being. Yet in nature, there is nothing
that necessarily protects those rights and freedoms. Who is going to stop a stronger, more powerful
enemy from ignoring these rights and enslaving those weaker than himself? Thomas Paine answers
this question in his essay entitled African Slavery in America. He declares that every man has a
natural, perfect right to their freedom, and it is the job of the government to, set them free, and punish
those who hold them in slavery (Paine 1995: 647). Furthermore, the DRMC states that The aim of
every political association is the preservation of the natural and inalienable rights of man. It is the role
of government to protect the rights of its citizens. Rousseau held that this social order is a sacred right
which is the basis of all rights. He goes on to argue that this right is not of nature, and must be
founded on conventions (Rousseau 1995: 431). The only rights that nature guarantees for someone are
those that they can defend for themselves. Therefore, by nature, rights are unequal from one being to
the next, just as talents, strengths, and abilities are unequal. However, a person s claim to a social
order guarantees them a protection of rights and freedoms that they can gain in no other way. Of
course, during the time of these writings there were oppressed members of society, that even though
they did their part, did not receive these same protections. In America alone, African Americans,
Native Americans, women, etc. all were excluded from the equal rights promised to white males.

The Negative Impacts Of Immigrants
In the recent decades, immigration has become a more popular option globally. Many people choose
to leave their home country simply for a better living environment or for other uncontrollable reasons,
such as wars and natural disasters. There are some countries are more likely to accept immigrants;
however some do not. One of the main reasons to rather accept or reject immigrants would be that it is
a major impact on the country s labor market environment. Inviting immigrations into a country
means that the labor force will increase due to the additional numbers of labor have been recently
added into in. In general, as the supply in labor increases, the demand in labor decreases at the same
time. That means it is then harder for the citizens of that particular country to find a job since there are
more people competing for positions. However, most of the time it is not this simple. Different types
of immigrant would make different impacts to a country s labor market. ... Show more content on

In other words, it would generally be more difficult of low skill local workers to find jobs that suit
their abilities. However, low skill workers or people who do not acquire a high school diploma are
usually low in developed countries such as Canada and USA. With that being said, job positions that
do not require higher education is demanding because most of the educated people are not willing to
work for positions that does not require critical skills. In many cases, low skill immigrants are willing
to take those positions not just because those jobs suit their ability, but also because being employed

Summary Of The Marginal World By Rachel Carson

TLIT 437: Nature and Environment in American Literature
Ellen Bayer
Conversation Essay
As reading this journal the topic that has come to my attention is how a lot of these nature writers are
looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most of these shorts journals are looking
at nature for not only for what it is, but what it offers, for example in the short The Marginal World
written by Rachel Carson she portrays The Shore is an ancient world, for as long as there has been an
earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet it is a world that keeps
alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life. Each time that I enter it, I
gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings, sensing that intricate fabric of life by
which one creature is linked with another, and each with its surroundings. (481). Based off this quote,
we can see that a lot of these authors did not only see nature as something that could be touched, but
rather seen as a spiritual entity. For me I believe the title The Marginal World was clarified in the first
part of the essay by the historic war even between both surfaces the wave and the land. She viewed
both landscapes as both spiritual entities. When she talks about how the waves would always
withdrawal, but never gave up, how the boundary of the sea was indescribable, this showed us how
much Rachel Carson adored the ocean. It seemed

The Effects Of Television On Children
Television viewing plays a significant role in the everyday lives of most American children, and
television sets have become a component of nearly all homes in the USA (Moses). Our society today
is very strongly based on the media, especially television. Americans are not only always on their
phones, but their televisions are usually on, either in the background or they are actually sitting and
watching it. Most people acknowledge that sitting around watching television is not healthy. However,
what most people do not realize is the effects television can have on the human brain. More
specifically, the effects it can have on the developing brain of young children. Television effects the
three domains of development: physical, social emotional, and cognitive. Although a few experts
disagree, the vast majority believe that television is harmful to the three domains of development in
the growing brain in young children. Understanding the effects, parents and caretakers can prevent the
exposure to children and help find a healthy balance of tv time.
What exactly are the domains of development? Human development is comprised of three major
domains: physical development, social emotional development, and cognitive development. As stated
in Child Development From Infancy to Adolescence physical development is biological changes that
occur in the body and brain, including changes in size and strength and integration of sensory and
motor activities (Levine and Munsch 158).

The Effects of Sport on Levels of Mindfulness and...
The area of research that will be of focal concern is conscious awareness in relation to the concept of
mindfulness . In addition to this, analogous research surrounding the topic area will be integrated, with
particular attention being paid to an important aspect of sport psychology known as flow .
Mindfulness has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions, namely Buddhism (Keng, Smoski, Robins,
2011), and is commonly defined as the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose,
in the present moment, and non judgmentally to the unfolding experience moment by moment (Kabat
Zinn, 2003, p. 145). Definitions like the preceding are common in contemporary literature, however
many authors have suggested that mindfulness is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with the work of Jon Kabat Zinn and the practice of mindfulness based stress reduction
(MBSR), which explored the use of mindfulness meditation in treating patients with chronic pain
(Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), a growing body of research concerning the cognitive behavioural
tradition emerged. Within this tradition it was assumed that cognition plays a vital role in determining
behaviour (Huss Baer, 2007), therefore, by drawing on the two components of mindfulness put forth
by Bishop et al (2004), clinicians established that the development of mindfulness skills, such as
focussed breathing (which cultivates the state of mindfulness), can lead to; increased self awareness
and self acceptance; reduced reactivity to thoughts and emotions; and improved ability to cope with
problematic situations (Linehan, 1993). In addition to this, research revealed that those who undergo
mindfulness training also experience improved ability to sustain attention in the present moment
(Marks, 2008). From a similar stance, recent studies carried out by sport psychologists provided an
indication towards a relationship between aspects of mindfulness and sporting performance, in which
theories of flow and peak performance were evidently compatible with the constructs of mindfulness
(Kaufman, Glass, Arnkoff, 2009). Csikszentmihalyi (1990; as cited in Bernier, Thienot,

Reflection Paper On Public Relations
Throughout the semester, the speakers have reaffirmed the fact that I would like to go into Public
Relations. They have told me everything I already know about the business including writing is key
and that networking is important. However, they have also mentioned things that I had not yet thought
of before such as business papers are a lifesaver, charity is a must, getting to know your client is
important and plenty more. Being able to hear first hand about the business and what it takes to be
successful in the future has helped me prepare for any future jobs or internships. In our first class with
a speaker, Kelly Rossman discussed about while the social media and writing is a key aspect of Public
Relations you must also look at the business part of Public Relations. The business aspect you should
have includes partner agreements, no competition contracts, confidentiality agreements and more. All
of these things help your business run smoothly and ensure that your customers are protected. When
dealing with people you never know what is going to happen because they are so unpredictable.
Having the safety guard to protect you is not only important for your business but for yourself also. It
gives you peace at mind knowing that if you were to wake up the next morning to bad news at least
you have something to fall back on. This will help you focus on being the best Public Relations
specialist you can be and take away unnecessary worry. Going forward I will make sure that

Bipolarity exists when two states have a majority of the economic, military and cultural influence and
can include alliance such as NATO or the WARSAW Pact or organizations but still have power. An
example of this would be the United States and the U.S.S.R is the Cold War. In the Cold War the
United States and the U.S.S.R. emerged as the two leading power, most western countries and
capitalist states came under the influence of the United States and on the opposite end the communist
states came under the influence of the U.S.S.R. and then then two major power fought indirectly for
control of the other countries as can be seen during the Korean War, Vietnam, and the Russian Afghan
War. Multipolar is a where more than two states have nearly equal amounts of military cultural and
economic influence. Theorist argue that this is more peaceful that a bipolar system because since
power is equal states would not want to attack other states however it could also lead to conflict if one
states feels the others may form an alliance. This could lead to more indirect conflicts and frequent
shifting of alliance to prevent one states from becoming the sole world power.

Statue Of Winchester Research Paper
What is the statue of Winchester?
The Statute of Winchester was written in 1285. It indicated a breakdown in the traditional system of
law enforcement and peacekeeping. Essentially, the statute of Winchester provided the legislative
basis for law enforcement in England. the statue Reaffirmed the position of a constable and
empowered urban constables to draft citizens as unpaid watchmen.
During the 13th century, England was going through substantial social change. With the social change,
the cities became larger and less organized by shared experiences and family power and were replaced
by urban living. The shift from a rural society to a commercial, industrial, urban and the decline of the
constable created a new innovation called watchmen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Watchmen used illegal and disruptive behavior to gain order maintenance and control. The duty of the
watchmen was to provide support to the constable. The watchmen arrested those who were violating
the law or disturbing the peace. these men would follow the watch and ward system calling out
anything strange and pursuing the criminals. The watch and ward was the first organized attempt at
policing. It consisted of a system. The hue and cry were established during this time, requiring citizens
to come to aid watchmen calling for help. The people that did not come to aid watchmen during a hue
and cry, where considered accomplices and punished as criminals. Watchman style policing places an
emphasis on violations of law and relies on threats of arrest or actual arrests. Think of it as strict
enforcement of criminal law. The watchman style of policing can be compared to the Los Angeles
police officers who took part in the beating of Rodney King, while some officers took part in

The Kite Runner And Lord Of The Flies Literary Analysis
Loss of innocence in Amir and Ralph What would it be like if your best friend/acquaintance did not
stand up for you when you were in trouble? This question is great for how the two protagonists Amir
and Ralph lose their innocence after their closest relationship dies. The Kite Runner by Khaled
Hosseini and Lord of The Flies by William Golding can be associated with one another in many ways.
The first way that they are similar is the loss of innocence that is evident in each novel. Both Amir and
Ralph experience a loss of innocence because of events that take place throughout the novel. This loss
of innocence change Amir and Ralph in positive and negative ways. Some ways the two novels can be
compared with regards to loss of innocence is firstly, how a death of a friend affects them, secondly,
how Ralph and Amir deal with it and finally how they mature after their friends deaths. Regarding loss
of innocence, a friend s death affected Amir and Ralph in similar ways, such as how they matured
from it. An example is evident in The Kite Runner Why are you here? , For the boy , when Amir
decides he wants to adopt Sohrab (Hosseini 267). It is evident in Lord of the Flies, the tears began to
flow and Ralph was sobbing , when Golding tries to depict Ralph growing into a man as he matures
through the book and after Piggy s death, acknowledging Piggy s intellect (Golding 202). Another
way, a way they affected each other similarly is when Amir and Ralph feel remorse and grief to their
dead friends. They both act like this in the book because they know they could have prevented it. In
contrast, regarding the loss of innocence, a friend s death affected Amir and Ralph in different ways.
One way they affected Amir is that he felt guilty and Ralph did not feel as guilty. This is evident
because Amir lost his innocence after watching Hassan get raped when he clearly could have
prevented it, I watched his face, but I didn t do anything. (Hosseini 76). Another way Amir is different
from Ralph is that Amir seeks redemption and Ralph seeks salvation, an example of Ralph s disparity
is when the savages are about to kill him and Ralph is frightened

Distributing Organs
Distributing the organs among the patients should be done in an ethical way. Not everyone in need of
an organ transplant gets what is needed for him because there is a shortage in organ availability.
Actually, there should be a fair distribution plan and everyone should be aware of it. Most likely there
are two types of distributive rightness. The first type is called equal access, which means the available
organs should be fairly divided among the waited patients no matter the sex or the race, and the
waiting time length should be considered. The first on the list be treated first. Another type of
distributive justice is called maximum benefit, which means that the doctor give the priority to the
patient who the doctor sees that he/she will live longer or the transplantation will be successful. It is a
way to avoid wasting the organs because they are rare. UNOS encourages the transplant centers in the
United States to use those methods in distributive the organs: the medical need, probability of success,
and time on the waiting list. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many arguments that shows it has no fairness between the patients simply because no one
has the ability to determine how long the transplanted patient will live after the surgery. How many
years the organ will function. I believe that the second type is an unethical issue in the distribution
because there is no equality between people, and it gives its back to the older people, and not giving
them the opportunity to get the organ they are needed for. as a result, they may lose their

Allen Ginsberg Beat Generation Analysis
In and around the 1950s Allen Ginsberg, along with several other great poets interested in changing
social consciousness and defying conventional writing, became known as the Beat generation. Beat
poetry focuses on the battle against social conformity and literary tradition. These Beat poets, known
for their unconventional lifestyle, unorthodox political views, rowdy behavior, and experimental drug
use, caused a lot of controversy. In Ginsberg s Howl and Other Poems, Ginsberg employs a
particularly confrontational and crude writing style to challenge the heteronormative, nuclear driven
society that promotes the marginalisation and ostracisation of minorities and individuals whose
ideology does not agree with that of the rest of the nation. Ginsberg believes that American society
remains gravely repressed and his writing works to challenge that. Ginsberg, along with the other
poets of the beat generation, introduce all the social taboos of the time such as heterosexual as well as
homosexual sex, drugs, and addiction, into their writings. Ginsberg became one of the most influential
poets in literary history, preaching his personal truths and promoting the idea of breaking the mold of
the idealistic nuclear American society.
Bond 2
At the time Ginsberg began to write, this idea of the perfect family, (working father, stay at home
wife, kids and a dog), had been a widely spread idealistic way of life followed by the mass
mainstream population of America. Although equality of opportunity is central to the concept of the
American Dream, only those who fit the mold of the straight laced American man receive the privilege
of equal opportunity. Ginsberg believes this concept of the idealistic American Dream proceeds to do
nothing but harm minorities much like himself. Ginsberg saw the best minds of [his] generation
destroyed by madness... demanding instantaneous lobotomy... (1 69). The harmful and destructive
ideology of the great American dream remains engraved in our society dating all the way back to The
Bill of Rights, 1789, No person shall be... deprived of life, liberty, or property and Allen Ginsberg
strived to dismantle this falsely constructed ideology. Ginsberg uses his sexaulity as a prime

Of The Vietnam War Burdens In Tim O Brien s The Things...
Forty two years after the Fall of Saigon, the Vietnam War remains an affliction for Vietnam War
Veterans and their families. Millions of our youth were forced to leave their home and carry
inconceivable burdens. Thus, as a Vietnam War Veteran, Tim O Brien can depict thoroughly our
Veterans burdens in The Things They Carried . His story brings us to First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross
and his platoon in war torn Vietnam. Cross is the commanding officer; however, he does not
concentrate on the war but on his unrequited love. As a result, a Viet Cong kills one of his
subordinates, Ted Lavender. His death traumatizes the platoon, especially its commander.
Furthermore, the narrator also depicts the burden of not only their equipment but also their
psychological distress. In response to O Brien s short story, Steven Kaplan writes a criticism The
undying uncertainty of the narrator in Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried. . In his criticism,
Kaplan focuses on the uncertainty of the war. He argues that O Brien s ultimate purpose is to display
the undying uncertainty of the Vietnam War (10). Despite his concrete and logical argument, he fails
to address the significance of the soldiers physical and psychological burdens, which emphasizes the
story s theme; therefore, his argument does not delineate the story entirely. Even though he does not
describe the full theme, he uncloaks the general mood of the story. According to Kaplan, the only
certain thing during the Vietnam War was

The number of trips taken by Britons overseas has declined by 12.6 million, from 69.4 million to 56.8
million between 2007 and 2011, according to the research by Travelodge. This means that 5.9 million

number of missing overseas trips, the report says. However, the analysis shows that staycation breaks

Shakespeare s thoughts on Modern Culture
To aide in this paper, I have chosen the song We didn t start the Fire, by Billy Joel to help provide
modern events that William Shakespeare s works can relate to. Shakespeare s plethora of works
provide information about his thoughts on society during his life. Many events and topics that are seen
in modern culture are relatable to events that occurred during Shakespeare s life, such as government,
assassinations, and controversies. Shakespeare s characters from his many plays reflect his thoughts
and provide an instant ability to connect modern culture back through Shakespeare s writing.
Government in England during the time of Shakespeare s life consisted of a Monarchy.
In the United States the governmental system used is a Representative Democracy (Kurtus).
Shakespeare in his life had a strong view on government, Fit to be govern? You re not fit to live,
(Macbeth) Shakespeare writes this as Macduff frets over the future of Scotland with Macbeth in
command. Shakespeare writes these lines talking about Macbeth, but the lines send a message about
Shakespeare s thoughts on government. Shakespeare s opinions would still be strong today, with
corrupt political systems, the United States needs a man such as William Shakespeare to bring
attention through literature to the ruins of our nation s political system.

advancement of the technology. It has evolved with this society so deeply where such conveniences
are no longer luxuries but rather necessities. Unfortunately, the most affected group of people from the
developed technology is the younger age people (Subrahmanyam, 2000). In the past, children were
more lively and active: playing outdoors, running around, climbing trees and remaining active rather
than watching television and playing video game and computer. It is true that the use of the
technology has its own virtue. It provides value, convenience and entertainment, but it should not take
the place of movement and realistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This kind of fats increases the level of cholesterol that could develop problems of heart, joints and
spinal cord (Journal of obesity, 2005). Afterwards, the impact of this problem can lead children to
more intense psychological and medical issues, which can have future reaching effects even into
adulthood (Pitman, 2008). According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2004, 16
percent of children in the ages of 6 19 year old are overweight or obese which could really have a
great chance of developing Type II Diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol and blood pressure
(Obesity, 2011). In addition, technology can expose children to a number of other physical risks:
seizures, hand injuries and changes in heart rate (Subrahmanyam, 2000). Obviously, those of the
raised problems above are the developed negative health problems that come from the overused of
technology in the children s daily life.
The second reason why modern technology contributes to negative health problems is that children
independently use technology, which impact on their social development and relationship. As the age
of the kids, the majority of them still cannot control or understand how to limit themselves from their
wants. Some children spend so much time playing computer and video games all alone that they are
losing their ability to socialize with others, families and friends. Children can averagely spend six
hours each day watching television or

Massachusetts Estate Abatement
When an executor realizes the estate lacks the assets to meet estate obligations, including bequests, an
abatement process occurs. The abatement process allows for the distribution of limited assets which
results in reducing or eliminating bequests to beneficiaries. Basically, abatement involuntarily reduces
or eliminates a beneficiary s share of an estate to allow for payment of some obligations.
Initially, to determine the need for abatement, the executor will build an administration plan as
described in the article The Administration Plan: A necessity for the Executor. If the plan reveals that
the estate lacks the assets to meet estate obligations, then abatement will result. Additionally, if the
will excludes abatement instructions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the common executor should defer to an attorney to handle the abatement process.
Final Facts
In full disclosure, I am not an attorney. Also, in my estate administration, abatement was never a
concern. So, this article is a simple overview of what the abatement process entails. The abatement
process is much more complicated than this article reveals. As a result, any common executor facing
abatement should defer the matter to an attorney skilled in probate law.
Furthermore, since some articles in this blog indicated that property left in a will may be sold to cover
expenses, this article reveals the process of how that happens. The executor doesn t get to pick which
beneficiary loses a bequest. The decedent or probate court makes that decision through the will or
legal statute.
Also, for the most part, the abatement process protects the executor from legal action or contests from
beneficiaries concerning abatement. If a beneficiary or creditor doesn t agree with abatement and files
a lawsuit, they will certainly lose. The same happens if a beneficiary contests the will, that beneficiary
will lose. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule and that applies to estate law as well. However,
unless there are extraordinary circumstances, the abatement process will protect

An Imperfect Offering by James Orbinski
An Imperfect Offering is a powerful personal memoir from a James Orbinski, a Canadian who has
spent most of his adult life in front line humanitarian work in the world s worst conflict zones. Despite
its dark chapters, it is also a hopeful story about the emergence of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) as
a new and independent agent of civil society, and the possibilities of making the world a better place.
In An Imperfect Offering , James Orbinski tells the story of people who have been harmed by war, and
humanitarian workers who have come to heal them when possible. He engages in deep reflection on
the nature of humanitarian response and the many threats to this most human activity. He has sharp
criticism for governments who act to cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orbinski s use of evidence is very convincing because of the perspective that he gives. As a doctor in
war torn countries, Orbinski is able to give a first hand account of what is occurring on the ground.
This evidence is valuable to the study of international relations since information can become twisted
when taken out of context. In addition, this first hand account includes more than just the military,
economic and philosophical factors that resulted in a conflict, which are usually discussed when
studying from a textbook. Instead, this experience allows for the reader to understand what humans
are truly capable of and it restores a human element to a political narrative. Orbinski s writing never
stoops to sentimentality, even as he describes these profoundly moving moments. However, because
the book is written as a memoir, the author does not come into evidence counter to his own, and if
there is information that the author does not know he openly states this fact, and continues to move on
with his story. This is typically, seen as a pitfall to most ideas. However, since Orbinski does not deal
with counter evidence, his stories have not been tainted and come purely from his own point of view.
In addition, by stating his lack of knowledge in certain areas it allows the reader to go off

The Flaws Of The Titanic And The Titanic
Despite how entertaining the film Titanic actually is, it has many flaws that can be pointed out. Titanic
is a love story between a woman of the upper class and a man of the lower class. Throughout the
movie they face the difficulties of Jack (Lower class man) not being high enough stature to please the
family of Rose (upper class woman) while they sail through the ocean on a luxurious cruise ship. As
the Titanic sinks the film shows the two being together and going through the catastrophe that is the
final hours on the Titanic. In the movie, Titanic, director James Cameron used a few important actual
events that occurred in the history of The Titanic. However, there are some things that were only
added for detail, entertainment, and action in film. Real life survivors from the ship s sinking report
what is valid and incorrect in the movie.
Many things in the movie, Titanic, actually happened in the actual event. One similarity is when The
Titanic s band continued to play as the ship went under. The lead violinist realized the chaos around
him and started playing, soon to be joined by his band members. An article on the Titanic says, After
the ship struck an iceberg, Wallace Hartley assembled his eight man band, and they eventually ended
up on the Boat Deck near the entrance to the Grand Staircase. There, they played ragtime and waltzes.
( Questioning The Story ). This is reported by survivors to be a valid occurrence in the sinking of the
Titanic. Another similarity between the movie and actual event is when ice landed on the main deck of
the Titanic. When the ship hit the iceberg, huge pieces of ice fell onto the main deck. A story on the
Titanic says, Survivor William Lucas reported seeing about a couple of tons of ice on the fore well
[deck] on the starboard side of the ship. ( Questioning The Story ). Many people report seeing this
incident happen that were aboard the Titanic. The Titanic movie has many similarities to the actual
event.
The movie Titanic although, had quite a few differences from the actual event. The first difference is
how the director, James Cameron, made the movie primarily based around Jack and Rose. These were
not real people on board the Titanic. They are entirely

A Comparison of Vengeance in Electra, The Bacchae and...
Vengeance in Electra, The Bacchae and Frankenstein
In today s world, vengeance is still in existence, bubbling below our calm facade, waiting for the
catalyst it needs to break loose. Evidence can be seen right now in the reactions of the American
people towards Bin Laden. He destroyed so many lives, and now, there is probably not one American
that would not love to get their minute alone with him. The American people want to hurt him the way
he and his followers hurt their fellow Americans, their family. This hunger for vengeance is
completely Dionysian and is found in more than one written work.
Electra is saturated with the Dionysian quest for vengeance that prevails also in The Bacchae. It is
found again in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is what prompted Electra and Orestes into action. Their senses were presumably on the mark
considering their mother s reaction upon hearing of Orestes death. Her primary concern is her own
well being. Orestes feigned death cleared up any misconceptions readers might have had as to what
Clytmaenestra s true sentiments were, and gives more definition unto the rationale behind Electra and
Orestes conduct.
In Frankenstein, the Dionysian principle is found twice. It exists for the monster and for Victor in an
opposing manner. For the monster, it is a little more complicated to uncover due to its backwards
pattern and the strange relationships. Victor s monster is left alone to fend for himself and discovers
that he is hideous and grotesquely frightening to all human beings he comes in contact with. With the
basis of these experiences, he deems himself unworthy of love and curses his creator for bringing him
into such a cruel world. He is determined to get even with Victor and kills his younger brother, and
when Victor refuses to create a monster companion, the monster destroys more of Victor s beloved.
Victor, as the monster s creator, is in essence, his mother, making Victor s family the monster s family
as well. The monster forsakes these family members who were ignorant of his existence. Had they
known him, they might have shown him the compassion he wishes for,

Chicago Medical Malpractice
Just because of a medical malpractice, what could have been a grand moment in your life could turn
into a total disaster for you. A problem with a newborn arising from gross negligence on the part of the
health care provider could be classified under medical malpractice. The right recourse is necessary to
be taken by those affected by such malpractice issues, and getting a Chicago birth injury lawyer may
get you through this painful litigation process. Just like in any other lawsuit, it is important to get the
right counsel to face these legal procedures.
The Chicago medical malpractice lawyer is more than adept in handling the different issues on
negligence in the proper legal route. On top of this, it would serve you well if you would have ... Show

The normal route is for investigative people under the supervision of the lawyer to take the cudgels of
this task. It would be the responsibility of the aggrieved party to collect all medical and financial
documents and all pertinent personal information to the accused. A separate medical examination, and
in certain instances an MRI, is done on the child. This would be the supporting items to prove there
was injury caused to the child at the time of birth.
The deposition comes next, or the evaluation of the collected evidence which is treated individually
for their separate merits. Part of the process in this case includes the examination and cross
examination of the Chicago birth injury lawyer and his counterpart. This process would include the
testimonies of the physicians, nurses, technicians and all others involved in the delivery of the baby.
The negotiation phase would follow, and in most cases, the Chicago medical malpractice lawyer
would be in a good position to conduct negotiations after all the evidence has been collected and
collated. It would be the job of the lawyer to Assess the extent and seriousness of the injury,
considering the economic and other losses, actual and potential, and conferring the matter with the
insurance company. The trial phase would ensue should the negotiation stage

Essay on HOW DOES CHARLES DICKENS CREATE SUSPENSE IN

HOW DOES CHARLES DICKENS CREATE SUSPENSE IN THE SIGNAL MAN?
Dickens creates suspense in the signal man by keeping us interested in a number of ways. He portrays
the mysterious and deadly setting, the introduction of the signal man and the impression of the
narrator fully. He also describes the spooky sight of the first ghost, the unusual second appearance of a
ghost and the death aboard the train.
Dickens presents the setting of his story vividly. Often, he uses such personification as angry sunset ;
to show that the narrator may be angry as the sun would be blazing down in his eyes. This helps create
suspense and make us want to read more. Immediately in the book, we are shown the setting. It is
described as a deep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator believes that he is exact and ingulant and the safest of men employed , which starts to
build our curiosity not only of the man as he is gloomy and exact, but the plot. We start to expect that
something bad will happen and even a major twist in the plot.
In addition, we are told that he perused the fixed eyes and that the signal man gave grave dark regards
which adds more to our little understanding of the mysterious character. Grave dark regards is made to
sound as a warning as I believe he talked slowly, unsure of the man s (narrator) up coming actions.
The Signal Man is a ghost story, and as any story develops the writer must introduce the spectre. To
keep our interest in the book, he portrays the narrator s feelings against the signal man s visions.
Dickens writes, a disagreeable shudder crept over me , which suggests he was scared of the man s
story but refused to believe it. He may have refused to believe this as in those days, religion was much
dominant than it is now and in England around this time was Christian, and some parts of the
teachings see spectres as unclean and as blasphemy. However, the narrator does not come over as
religious, he is more scientific and perhaps believes it is the signal man s own delusions. The signal
man was said to have talked a tone lower than a whisper , that suggests he was weary of talking. The
word whisper to me is

A Presentation Of The Rationale For The Qualitative Case...
In this chapter, I will describe the methodology of my case study. I will begin with a presentation of
the rationale for the qualitative case study approach. Next, I will present the participant selection
criteria, the design of the study, and the methods of the data collection which will include the two
interviews (first and follow up), classroom observation, videotaping the participant during instruction,
and document data collection. I will also discuss the strategies I will be using to enhance the
trustworthiness of the study. At the end of this chapter, I will explain the methods of the data analysis.
Appendix A will be included at the end of the chapter. I will develop Table(s) of the data collection.
Rationale for Qualitative Approach
The choice to choose the qualitative approach will mainly be depended on my purpose and research
questions to be addressed. Since the purpose of this case study is to define the teacher s use of ASL
fingerspelling will be implemented during instruction. The purpose of my case study is not to compare
or measure the effectiveness of the participant s method of instruction, but to observe how the
participant uses ASL fingerspelling, if any, during class instruction and how it was implemented. The
qualitative approach will be carefully selected ....

Essay on Sharon Olds The Possessive
The Possessive
Teenage rebellion is typically portrayed in stories, films, and other genres as a testosterone based
phenomenon. There is an overplayed need for one to acknowledge a boy s rebellion against his father,
his life direction, the system, in an effort to become a man, or rather an adult. However, rarely is the
female addressed in such a scenario. What happens when little girls grow up? Do they rebel? Do they,
in a sudden overpowering rush of estrogen, deny what has been taught to them from birth and shed
their former youthful façades? Do they turn on their mothers? In Sharon Olds poem, The Possessive,
the reader is finally introduced to the female version of the popular coming of age theme as a simple

From here the tone of unease and apprehension often felt before a great battle is set. This is not a

The next image Olds puts into play is that of the vision of her daughter reborn as the enemy. Olds
describes the daughter s hair by saying, each strand now cuts/ both ways. The blade of new bangs
hangs over her red brown eyes/ like carbon steel. This is not a typical description of hair. Olds
specifically compares the young girl s hair to a freshly sharpened weapon. With words such as cuts,
blade, and carbon steel, Olds builds up an image of a lethal weapon such as a knife or perhaps sword,
weapons both clearly used for battle. Olds further describes the girl s hair by acknowledging that all
the little/ spliced ropes are sliced. The line break in the poem which leaves the phrase all the little
alone to be followed up by second line describing the sliced hair, adds to Olds image. All the little
appears as a memory of the mother of her former daughter, a memory that is quickly destroyed by the
second image of those little strands now taking on a threatening sliced form. In addition, the line also
holds a visual separation between the two different images that occupy the mother s same thought

Coercive Power And Its Effects On Society
In terms of social sciences and politics, power is the ability to influence or outright control people s
behavior. Power may be viewed as evil or unjust, but the exercise of power is generally accepted as
pervasive to humans as social beings. Never the less, power comes in many forms and each form has
its own implications. One of these forms is coercion, and it is usually called Coercive Power .
Coercive power termed as the ability to create fear in people with the possibility of inflicting pain or
punishment. People react to this power out of a fear of negative results or repercussions that may
occur if they fail to comply. Coercive power depends on the application, or threat, of physical
sanctions as inflicting pain, restriction of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large part of organizational behavior could be explained in terms of coercive power rather than
reward power. In a 1959 study, social psychologists John R. P. French and Bertram Raven developed a
schema of sources of power in order to analyze how power plays function, or fail, in specific
relationships. According to them, the concept of power is fundamentally relative, depending on
specific understandings developed into relationships, and recognition of a quality that motivates the
influence of the power holder, and carries out his or her intentions via the affected. It was French and
Raven, who argued and established five significant categories of power, in addition to other minor
categories. Coercive power is among the five significant categories, and the duo has noted that
coercive power tends to be the most obvious, but at the same time least effective form of power. This,
according to them, is because coercive power builds resentment and resistance from the people who
are subjected to it. As threats, punishments and force are common means of exerting coercive power,
relying on this type of power can result in a deficient leadership style. When viewed in a political
context, coercive power is applied, and even tolerable, when applied with the justification of social
and legal norms. It can also be tolerated when the leadership group is viewed as successful.
Coercive methods are

  • 2. The Death Penalty Should Be Legal Essay Throughout the United States an argumentative topic is the death penalty should it be legalized across the 50 states or be declared unconstitutional? Some believe the death penalty is a better option for those who deserve the highest form of punishment available. However, others argue capital punishment is a waste of resources and should be brought to an end. Therefore, while many believe the death penalty should be legalized throughout the United States because it offers a higher form of punishment, others believe the death penalty should be repealed because it causes unnecessary deaths. Many believe the death penalty has recently been discovered; although, it originated in the B.C. era. For example, the earliest forms of government had introduced the death penalty for those who had committed large offences. One researcher writes, Death Penalty laws can be traced back as far as the 18th century B.C. when the Code of King Hammurabi established death as the penalty for 25 different crimes ( Capital Punishment Timeline ). He claims the death penalty started before anyone would have thought; it had been used during the B.C. era. Hammurabi used this as the highest punishment for the most offensive crimes one could commit. Hammurabi had first developed the idea of an eye for an eye, meaning if one commits a horrific crime then the same horrific crime shall be done to him. Although it began in B.C. era, criminal punishment is still used today. Some of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Is Inequality Natural Is Inequality Natural? During the Enlightenment era, a critical concept addressed by many prominent authors was the equality of humankind. In Enlightenment terms, inequality can be defined as the difference in qualities capable of demanding respect (Rousseau 1995: 425), such as strength or skill, as well as difference in civil rights and liberties of man. Both definitions will be used in this essay, as well as how they are related. In Jean Jacques Rousseau s Discourse on the Origin of Inequality, nature, or the natural state of man, is portrayed as man before the rise of any social order. This essay will analyze man in this natural state to determine that humans are naturally unequal, and it is only through submission to a social contract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen (DRMC) states that, Men are born and remain free and equal in rights (French Nat. Assembly 1995: 467). So, using this logic, yes, humans are equal and entitled to the same rights and freedom of every other human being. Yet in nature, there is nothing that necessarily protects those rights and freedoms. Who is going to stop a stronger, more powerful enemy from ignoring these rights and enslaving those weaker than himself? Thomas Paine answers this question in his essay entitled African Slavery in America. He declares that every man has a natural, perfect right to their freedom, and it is the job of the government to, set them free, and punish those who hold them in slavery (Paine 1995: 647). Furthermore, the DRMC states that The aim of every political association is the preservation of the natural and inalienable rights of man. It is the role of government to protect the rights of its citizens. Rousseau held that this social order is a sacred right which is the basis of all rights. He goes on to argue that this right is not of nature, and must be founded on conventions (Rousseau 1995: 431). The only rights that nature guarantees for someone are those that they can defend for themselves. Therefore, by nature, rights are unequal from one being to the next, just as talents, strengths, and abilities are unequal. However, a person s claim to a social order guarantees them a protection of rights and freedoms that they can gain in no other way. Of course, during the time of these writings there were oppressed members of society, that even though they did their part, did not receive these same protections. In America alone, African Americans, Native Americans, women, etc. all were excluded from the equal rights promised to white males. Despite forward ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Negative Impacts Of Immigrants In the recent decades, immigration has become a more popular option globally. Many people choose to leave their home country simply for a better living environment or for other uncontrollable reasons, such as wars and natural disasters. There are some countries are more likely to accept immigrants; however some do not. One of the main reasons to rather accept or reject immigrants would be that it is a major impact on the country s labor market environment. Inviting immigrations into a country means that the labor force will increase due to the additional numbers of labor have been recently added into in. In general, as the supply in labor increases, the demand in labor decreases at the same time. That means it is then harder for the citizens of that particular country to find a job since there are more people competing for positions. However, most of the time it is not this simple. Different types of immigrant would make different impacts to a country s labor market. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, it would generally be more difficult of low skill local workers to find jobs that suit their abilities. However, low skill workers or people who do not acquire a high school diploma are usually low in developed countries such as Canada and USA. With that being said, job positions that do not require higher education is demanding because most of the educated people are not willing to work for positions that does not require critical skills. In many cases, low skill immigrants are willing to take those positions not just because those jobs suit their ability, but also because being employed by them is a major step to blend into the society and the ... • 5. Summary Of The Marginal World By Rachel Carson Andrew Han 10/24/2015 TLIT 437: Nature and Environment in American Literature Ellen Bayer Conversation Essay As reading this journal the topic that has come to my attention is how a lot of these nature writers are looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most of these shorts journals are looking at nature for not only for what it is, but what it offers, for example in the short The Marginal World written by Rachel Carson she portrays The Shore is an ancient world, for as long as there has been an earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet it is a world that keeps alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life. Each time that I enter it, I gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings, sensing that intricate fabric of life by which one creature is linked with another, and each with its surroundings. (481). Based off this quote, we can see that a lot of these authors did not only see nature as something that could be touched, but rather seen as a spiritual entity. For me I believe the title The Marginal World was clarified in the first part of the essay by the historic war even between both surfaces the wave and the land. She viewed both landscapes as both spiritual entities. When she talks about how the waves would always withdrawal, but never gave up, how the boundary of the sea was indescribable, this showed us how much Rachel Carson adored the ocean. It seemed ... • 6. The Effects Of Television On Children Television viewing plays a significant role in the everyday lives of most American children, and television sets have become a component of nearly all homes in the USA (Moses). Our society today is very strongly based on the media, especially television. Americans are not only always on their phones, but their televisions are usually on, either in the background or they are actually sitting and watching it. Most people acknowledge that sitting around watching television is not healthy. However, what most people do not realize is the effects television can have on the human brain. More specifically, the effects it can have on the developing brain of young children. Television effects the three domains of development: physical, social emotional, and cognitive. Although a few experts disagree, the vast majority believe that television is harmful to the three domains of development in the growing brain in young children. Understanding the effects, parents and caretakers can prevent the exposure to children and help find a healthy balance of tv time. What exactly are the domains of development? Human development is comprised of three major domains: physical development, social emotional development, and cognitive development. As stated in Child Development From Infancy to Adolescence physical development is biological changes that occur in the body and brain, including changes in size and strength and integration of sensory and motor activities (Levine and Munsch 158). ... • 7. The Effects of Sport on Levels of Mindfulness and... The area of research that will be of focal concern is conscious awareness in relation to the concept of mindfulness . In addition to this, analogous research surrounding the topic area will be integrated, with particular attention being paid to an important aspect of sport psychology known as flow . Mindfulness has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions, namely Buddhism (Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), and is commonly defined as the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non judgmentally to the unfolding experience moment by moment (Kabat Zinn, 2003, p. 145). Definitions like the preceding are common in contemporary literature, however many authors have suggested that mindfulness is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning with the work of Jon Kabat Zinn and the practice of mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR), which explored the use of mindfulness meditation in treating patients with chronic pain (Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), a growing body of research concerning the cognitive behavioural tradition emerged. Within this tradition it was assumed that cognition plays a vital role in determining behaviour (Huss Baer, 2007), therefore, by drawing on the two components of mindfulness put forth by Bishop et al (2004), clinicians established that the development of mindfulness skills, such as focussed breathing (which cultivates the state of mindfulness), can lead to; increased self awareness and self acceptance; reduced reactivity to thoughts and emotions; and improved ability to cope with problematic situations (Linehan, 1993). In addition to this, research revealed that those who undergo mindfulness training also experience improved ability to sustain attention in the present moment (Marks, 2008). From a similar stance, recent studies carried out by sport psychologists provided an indication towards a relationship between aspects of mindfulness and sporting performance, in which theories of flow and peak performance were evidently compatible with the constructs of mindfulness (Kaufman, Glass, Arnkoff, 2009). • 8. Reflection Paper On Public Relations Throughout the semester, the speakers have reaffirmed the fact that I would like to go into Public Relations. They have told me everything I already know about the business including writing is key and that networking is important. However, they have also mentioned things that I had not yet thought of before such as business papers are a lifesaver, charity is a must, getting to know your client is important and plenty more. Being able to hear first hand about the business and what it takes to be successful in the future has helped me prepare for any future jobs or internships. In our first class with a speaker, Kelly Rossman discussed about while the social media and writing is a key aspect of Public Relations you must also look at the business part of Public Relations. The business aspect you should have includes partner agreements, no competition contracts, confidentiality agreements and more. All of these things help your business run smoothly and ensure that your customers are protected. When dealing with people you never know what is going to happen because they are so unpredictable. Having the safety guard to protect you is not only important for your business but for yourself also. It gives you peace at mind knowing that if you were to wake up the next morning to bad news at least you have something to fall back on. This will help you focus on being the best Public Relations specialist you can be and take away unnecessary worry. Going forward I will make sure that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Study of History and Theory of International Relations To study international relations means to study the history of international relations, theory, practical application of those theories and the outcome after the practical application of the theory was applied. Smith spoke about international relations and said that international relations importance of not just theory, but history to understanding The politics of today (Smith 2006). So when you study international relations you should understand the theory but you need to know the history because a states history contributed the how and why the countries politics are the way they are today. Bipolarity exists when two states have a majority of the economic, military and cultural influence and can include alliance such as NATO or the WARSAW Pact or organizations but still have power. An example of this would be the United States and the U.S.S.R is the Cold War. In the Cold War the United States and the U.S.S.R. emerged as the two leading power, most western countries and capitalist states came under the influence of the United States and on the opposite end the communist states came under the influence of the U.S.S.R. and then then two major power fought indirectly for control of the other countries as can be seen during the Korean War, Vietnam, and the Russian Afghan War. Multipolar is a where more than two states have nearly equal amounts of military cultural and economic influence. Theorist argue that this is more peaceful that a bipolar system because since power is equal states would not want to attack other states however it could also lead to conflict if one states feels the others may form an alliance. This could lead to more indirect conflicts and frequent shifting of alliance to prevent one states from becoming the sole world power. • 10. Statue Of Winchester Research Paper What is the statue of Winchester? The Statute of Winchester was written in 1285. It indicated a breakdown in the traditional system of law enforcement and peacekeeping. Essentially, the statute of Winchester provided the legislative basis for law enforcement in England. the statue Reaffirmed the position of a constable and empowered urban constables to draft citizens as unpaid watchmen. During the 13th century, England was going through substantial social change. With the social change, the cities became larger and less organized by shared experiences and family power and were replaced by urban living. The watch and ward was the first organized attempt at policing. It consisted of a system. The hue and cry were established during this time, requiring citizens to come to aid watchmen calling for help. The people that did not come to aid watchmen during a hue and cry, where considered accomplices and punished as criminals. • 11. The Kite Runner And Lord Of The Flies Literary Analysis Loss of innocence in Amir and Ralph What would it be like if your best friend/acquaintance did not stand up for you when you were in trouble? This question is great for how the two protagonists Amir and Ralph lose their innocence after their closest relationship dies. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and Lord of The Flies by William Golding can be associated with one another in many ways. The first way that they are similar is the loss of innocence that is evident in each novel. Both Amir and Ralph experience a loss of innocence because of events that take place throughout the novel. This loss of innocence change Amir and Ralph in positive and negative ways. Some ways the two novels can be compared with regards to loss of innocence is firstly, how a death of a friend affects them, secondly, how Ralph and Amir deal with it and finally how they mature after their friends deaths. Regarding loss of innocence, a friend s death affected Amir and Ralph in similar ways, such as how they matured from it. An example is evident in The Kite Runner Why are you here? , For the boy , when Amir decides he wants to adopt Sohrab (Hosseini 267). It is evident in Lord of the Flies, the tears began to flow and Ralph was sobbing , when Golding tries to depict Ralph growing into a man as he matures through the book and after Piggy s death, acknowledging Piggy s intellect (Golding 202). Another way, a way they affected each other similarly is when Amir and Ralph feel remorse and grief to their dead friends. They both act like this in the book because they know they could have prevented it. In contrast, regarding the loss of innocence, a friend s death affected Amir and Ralph in different ways. One way they affected Amir is that he felt guilty and Ralph did not feel as guilty. This is evident because Amir lost his innocence after watching Hassan get raped when he clearly could have prevented it, I watched his face, but I didn t do anything. (Hosseini 76). Another way Amir is different from Ralph is that Amir seeks redemption and Ralph seeks salvation, an example of Ralph s disparity is when the savages are about to kill him and Ralph is frightened ... Not everyone in need of an organ transplant gets what is needed for him because there is a shortage in organ availability. Actually, there should be a fair distribution plan and everyone should be aware of it. Most likely there are two types of distributive rightness. The first type is called equal access, which means the available organs should be fairly divided among the waited patients no matter the sex or the race, and the waiting time length should be considered. The first on the list be treated first. Another type of distributive justice is called maximum benefit, which means that the doctor give the priority to the patient who the doctor sees that he/she will live longer or the transplantation will be successful. It is a way to avoid wasting the organs because they are rare. UNOS encourages the transplant centers in the United States to use those methods in distributive the organs: the medical need, probability of success, and time on the waiting list. ... • 13. Allen Ginsberg Beat Generation Analysis In and around the 1950s Allen Ginsberg, along with several other great poets interested in changing social consciousness and defying conventional writing, became known as the Beat generation. Beat poetry focuses on the battle against social conformity and literary tradition. These Beat poets, known for their unconventional lifestyle, unorthodox political views, rowdy behavior, and experimental drug use, caused a lot of controversy. In Ginsberg s Howl and Other Poems, Ginsberg employs a particularly confrontational and crude writing style to challenge the heteronormative, nuclear driven society that promotes the marginalisation and ostracisation of minorities and individuals whose ideology does not agree with that of the rest of the nation. Ginsberg believes that American society remains gravely repressed and his writing works to challenge that. Ginsberg, along with the other poets of the beat generation, introduce all the social taboos of the time such as heterosexual as well as homosexual sex, drugs, and addiction, into their writings. Ginsberg became one of the most influential poets in literary history, preaching his personal truths and promoting the idea of breaking the mold of the idealistic nuclear American society. Bond 2 At the time Ginsberg began to write, this idea of the perfect family, (working father, stay at home wife, kids and a dog), had been a widely spread idealistic way of life followed by the mass mainstream population of America. Although equality of opportunity is central to the concept of the American Dream, only those who fit the mold of the straight laced American man receive the privilege of equal opportunity. Ginsberg believes this concept of the idealistic American Dream proceeds to do nothing but harm minorities much like himself. • 15. Of The Vietnam War Burdens In Tim O Brien s The Things... Forty two years after the Fall of Saigon, the Vietnam War remains an affliction for Vietnam War Veterans and their families. Millions of our youth were forced to leave their home and carry inconceivable burdens. Thus, as a Vietnam War Veteran, Tim O Brien can depict thoroughly our Veterans burdens in The Things They Carried . His story brings us to First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross and his platoon in war torn Vietnam. Cross is the commanding officer; however, he does not concentrate on the war but on his unrequited love. As a result, a Viet Cong kills one of his subordinates, Ted Lavender. His death traumatizes the platoon, especially its commander. Furthermore, the narrator also depicts the burden of not only their equipment but also their psychological distress. In response to O Brien s short story, Steven Kaplan writes a criticism The undying uncertainty of the narrator in Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried. . In his criticism, Kaplan focuses on the uncertainty of the war. He argues that O Brien s ultimate purpose is to display the undying uncertainty of the Vietnam War (10). Despite his concrete and logical argument, he fails to address the significance of the soldiers physical and psychological burdens, which emphasizes the story s theme; therefore, his argument does not delineate the story entirely. Even though he does not describe the full theme, he uncloaks the general mood of the story. According to Kaplan, the only certain thing during the Vietnam War was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shakespeare s plethora of works provide information about his thoughts on society during his life. Many events and topics that are seen in modern culture are relatable to events that occurred during Shakespeare s life, such as government, assassinations, and controversies. Shakespeare s characters from his many plays reflect his thoughts and provide an instant ability to connect modern culture back through Shakespeare s writing. Shakespeare in his life had a strong view on government, Fit to be govern? The abatement process allows for the distribution of limited assets which results in reducing or eliminating bequests to beneficiaries. Furthermore, since some articles in this blog indicated that property left in a will may be sold to cover expenses, this article reveals the process of how that happens. The executor doesn t get to pick which beneficiary loses a bequest. The decedent or probate court makes that decision through the will or legal statute. Also, for the most part, the abatement process protects the executor from legal action or contests from beneficiaries concerning abatement. If a beneficiary or creditor doesn t agree with abatement and files a lawsuit, they will certainly lose. The same happens if a beneficiary contests the will, that beneficiary will lose.
