2. 2 Textbooks Tomlinson (2002) stated that by way of various activities, readings and explorations,
textbooks give the essential recommendations into class (as cited in Rahimi Hasani, 2011, p. 67).
There can be no disclaiming the fact that textbooks still keep very large recognition and most are
certainly here to stay even if one believes that textbooks are notably inflexible and one sided to be
employed instantaneously as instructional material (Mohammadi Abdi, 2014, p. 1149). Furthermore,
the advantages of the use of textbooks are:  Providing the structure of the teachers and students to
follow which can give a sense of security as the class advances through the book  Providing
attractive, motivational, colourful, and diverse content  Providing graded content suitable for the

Tsunami Research Paper
Tsunami are waves caused by sudden movement of the ocean due to earthquakes, landslides on the
floor of the sea, land falling into the ocean, volcanic eruptions, or large meteorite impacts. Most
tsunamis are caused by earthquakes of large magnitude at the seafloor. When large slabs of rock are
forced to slide along each other suddenly causing the water to move. The wave that is formed from
this moves outwards and away from the earthquake epicenter. Landslides can cause tsunamis and so
can land which falls into the ocean. Landslides happen when slopes become too steep to withstand
gravity. Other ways, but less common are tsunami initiated by volcanic eruptions. These occur in
several ways. If an underwater volcano erupts, the hot lava s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In 14 countries, this disaster killed approximately 280 thousand people with waves up to 100 feet
high, having the longest duration between 8 and 10 minutes of faulting ever recorded. This became
one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history, with an estimated death toll of 280,000
people, it is ranked second on the Top ten deadliest disasters since 1900 , and even triggered
earthquakes as far away as Alaska.
The epicenter was near mainland Indonesia. Despite a lag of several hours between the earthquake and
the impact of the tsunami, nearly all the victims were taken by surprise. The countries affected were
numerous, they ranged from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Maldives, Malaysia, Madagascar,
Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa. The Indonesia deaths tolled over 130 thousand, mainly
in the northern province of Aceh of the island of Sumatra. Some 37,000 people are still said to be
missing. Sri Lanka was less affected, and only saw casualties of 31,229, and 4,093 people missing.
Also, one and half million people lost their homes, and many orphaned or separated from their
families. Death casualties in India were 10,749 people and 5,640 people missing. Thai government
reported 5,395 deaths, 8,457 injuries and 28,17 missing on the 20th of June 2005. The damage of the

Joseph Stalin And Vladimir Putin
Over the last century, Russia has been led by two of its most dominant and imperious leaders: Joseph
Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many differences
as well.
Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following
Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party men,
and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian communist
system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were followed while
his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens and urged citizens to
spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech; violators of his laws were
sent to Gulags, labor camps .
After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir Putin
was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once again in
2012 . However, there is much skepticism about the legitimacy and impartiality of the 2004 and 2012
elections. Experts state that Getting the necessary fifty percent to avoid a runoff would have been
impossible without rigging the elections.
From a young age, Stalin was reared to be devout in the Greek Orthodox Church in accord with his
parents wish for him to become a priest; however, in the typical iconoclastic manner, when he ruled

Akanksha Srivastava, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi
Abstract:
This paper is an attempt to study Brand Apple and the extraordinary devotion and brand loyalty
portrayed and practiced by the Apple Tribe consumers of the brand that purchase, obsess, follow and

Presidential System Is Heavily Inclined Towards...
In both of his readings, Lijphart argues (or concludes) that presidential system is heavily inclined
towards majoritarian democracy, which can impede consolidating democratic regime in those
countries that face deep ethnic cleavages. He further argues that parliamentary system and its
consensus politics are much preferred to consolidate democracy in ethnically diversed countries. He
presents several compelling evidence to support his argument by describing the essential features of
presidentialism and how they account for the majoritarian tendency of the presidential system. In
chapter six of his book, Patterns of Democracy, Liphart states that the difference between majority and
consensus democracy is the range and depth of people s participation in the executive branch. He
distinguishes presidential system and parliamentary system as the former creates one party majority
cabinet where the power is concentrated in the hands of the majority and the latter produces multiparty
coalition where its consensual nature allows broad power sharing within the executive cabinet.
All these features indicate the strong link between presidential democracy and majoritarianism and
how they can impede democratic consolidation. First, the fact that the president is elected through
majority (or plurality) rule and that the executive power is concentrated to not only one person but
also to one party, creating one party majority cabinet, induce presidential democracy to lean towards

Smart phones allow us to not only talk and text on the phone, but also various other duties that a
computer would such as check emails, send documents, browse the Internet, and find locations. With
the allure of smart phones comes the catch of now transmitting personal and confidential information
into our phones, allowing unwanted users or hackers to view our data without our consent. In addition,
there was a time when the typewriter was the only machine used for data entry, but in present day, we
have laptops, desktop computers, and also netbooks. With these fancy gadgets, Web 2.0 had also been

Charles Mingus Essay

Jazz 219
Charles Mingus Charles Mingus is a very important and influential name in jazz; however he is left
out by many historians when talking about the history of jazz. The main reason he is left out by so
many historians, Mark Gridley in particular, is because of his attitude and ego. He is clearly not the
most pleasant person, and he surely does not display how a real jazz musician should act, at least
according to most historians. The way he acts during performances can be quite startling at first, if you
are not familiar with his ways and methods of playing. For example, he was known for using profanity
during performances, either geared at the audience if they were being too loud or the sound operators

Another chapter I would also include him in would be Chapter 5, How Swing Differs from Early Jazz
. I would include Mingus in this chapter as well because it talks so much of his most influential Jazz
artist, and at one point fellow band mate, Duke Ellington. I feel like Mingus truly does have enough
variance in his music to help point out and draw the fine line between early jazz and the newer swing
jazz. The main differences between these two categories of jazz are that in early jazz, you were a lot
less likely to have the big band feel to the music, and soloist played a more important role in early
jazz, whereas in the swing era, you were introduced to more of a variety of instruments as well as new
techniques on how to play them. Mingus puts out good examples and songs/performances that clearly
display how things transitioned from early Jazz to swing, and then onto other evolutions of jazz as
well. After learning and hearing many of Charles Mingus s music, I definitely feel it is unfair for any
historian to leave him out of an in depth jazz history book. I hope jazz book writers to come take note
of Mingus s accomplishments, and start to include him in the history books right up there with Duke
Ellington, Miles Davis, and Louis Armstrong. It is only fair to him and his fellow band mates,
however, only time will

performances are generally based on a religious setting of the several regions that the very detailed
and are represented in a very organized way. To begin, Missa Mirabilis is a piece that was celebrated
at the Westminster Cathedral for the feast of Corpus Christi on the 10th of June, 2007. This gave a
new setting of the Mass by world renowned pianist, Stephen Hough. He named the piece Missa
Mirabilis that is translated to Miracle Mass in English. While writing this script, he was involved in a
car crash while driving at about 80 mph, but the script and Hough survived the crash. The work is
bound by melodic lines with some choral structure that gives the piece a form of inner strength plus
some unique harmonic cushion. The piece was well organized to give it some comfortable assurance.
The speed that was employed in the piece was very moderate and was well handled by the chorus of
singers who sounded buoyant and fresh at all times, even to the very last stage of the performance.
The arranged movement that was used in the piece provided the contrast between different levels of
vocals in a very intimate manner and way. This was very instrumental in providing the path that paved
way for the difference between innocence and experience by the two different groups of performers. It

Defining the Victorian Woman Essay
Defining the Victorian Woman
In the Victorian Age, there existed a certain ideology of what constituted the
perfect Victorian woman. In the beginning of the eighteenth century, young girls
began attending schools that offered basic skills such as reading, writing, and
math. Manuals of etiquette and conduct instructed young girls in manners of
society and the home (Basch 3). All of this prepared a young woman for marriage,
which, in the nineteenth century, was put forward as being the culminating
point of a woman s life (Basch 16). Thus, the perfect woman was also the
perfect wife, an active part of the family, with specific regard to the children
(Vicinus ix). Yet, although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most often, marriage defined a woman s status and her attitude and emotions.
Married women represented the angel of the house. Women learned passive virtues
of patience, resignation, and silent suffering (Lerner 175). Women were
expected to take care of their families and the home as if it were the only
thing that mattered in the world. A good wife did not want to be outside the
home or do anything that would distract her from her duties. These virtues
characterized their lives. Society directed their use of them to guide their
families emotionally and morally as wife and mother. Women always maintained
their submissive, dependent status in their marriage (Basch 6). This idea of
wife as an inspiration was central to the Victorian concept of the home and its
meaning. Because the Victorians viewed the home as the haven from evil, it only
made sense that the woman s place, with these prescribed virtues, was in the
home (Basch 7). In addition, women were not emotional, especially when it came
to sex. Although part of her defined role included child bearing, a woman did
not exhibit any sexual impulses. Women were not supposed to generate passion or
even enjoy sex. Sex in the marriage was meant entirely for the purpose of
procreating (Basch

Experiment 1
Experiment 1 is a partial conceptual replication of Collins and Quillian s (1969) study on the hierarchy
network model for the organization of semantic memory. The purpose of experiment 1 was to test
Collins and Quillian s hypothesis stating that response time for category searching should be slower as
a function of an increasing number of levels separating a category subject and it s predicate term on
the semantic hierarchy model. We use the same basic procedure as Collins and Quillian s experiment,

Florence Nightingale Had A Big Impact On The Math World
Florence Nightingale had a big impact on the math world. We still use what she contributed today in
the medical field and in the classroom. She not only made an impact in the math world but also for
women s rights and in the medical field during the Crimean War. Florence had an interesting early life,
from begging her parents to study math to choosing to become a nurse. She is an example of how you
should never give up on your dreams and how you should not let other people tell you what you can
and cannot do. Florence was born on May 12th, 1820 in Florence Italy, which is where she got her
name. Her parents were William Edward Nightingale and Frances Nightingale Nee Smith. She had a
sister named Frances Parthenope, also named after the place in which she was born. They were an

Hampshire, and Lea Hurst. In 1838 Florence met Mary Clarky, Clarkey was a stimulating hostess who
did not care about what she looked like. Clarkey had no respect for upper British women. She mostly
spent her time around male intellectuals as opposed to the company of women. Clarkey demonstrated
that women could be equal to men. This is an idea that Florence s mother and sister did not support.

Space Noise And The Separation Of Noise Generated Within...
The major acoustical issues in public buildings are concerned with the exclusion of outdoor noise and
the separation of noise generated within the buildings. This chapter will consider specific types of
public buildings in which acoustic designs are a matter of importance, such as schools, offices,
libraries, recreational buildings, hospitals and government buildings. To obtain a space free from the
annoyance of noise and excessive reverberation, a few step one could take would be as follows:
planning the build with consideration of noise insulation so that rooms which contain sources of
considerable noise level are separated from rooms that are required to silent; providing sufficient noise
insulation for rooms where silence is need as well as implementing sound absorption to reduces the
reverberation and noise created by that room to a more acceptable level. It is well to recognise that
uncontrolled noise in public buildings will diminish their utility
Since the dawn of the twenty first century, public school have shown more attention to acoustical
problems in part due to the increased use of open planning, more informal teaching methods and an
increased use of audio visual aids. Classroom acoustics should neither be too high nor too low, but
rather a balance of reflective finishes to aid teaching and absorptive finish away from the front of the

Analysis Of The Article Testimonial Injustice And ...
In Miranda Fricker s article Testimonial Injustice, she highlights the significant effects for the
connection of ethics and epistemology. Ethics is one of the philosophies branches that asks the
question, What is a good life or how to live a good life? Epistemology is the theory of philosophy that
ask the questions, What do you know? and How do you know it? Fricker basically, combines the two
subjects at the matter and produced the concept of epistemic injustice. According to Fricker, epistemic
injustices comes in the form of testimonial injustice. Testimonial injustice involves preconceived
opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience; that cause any individual to put a label
another individual s words as a credibility deficit or a credibility excess. Fricker highlights, anyone
can be a victim of epistemic injustices. In this paper, I will support Fricker s argument that identity
preconception and prejudgments create credibility deficits consequently hindering right practice of
epistemic that everyone should have. According to Fricker, epistemic injustice can occur when the
regular everyday individual s filled his or her minds with prejudicial stereotypes and social power. A
disadvantage of epistemic injustice is that with these prejudicial stereotypes and social images, their
brains are programmed to trigger naturally a message to judge someone s accuracy on their
knowledge. Fricker states, social power is a capacity we have as social agents to

How Electric Vehicles Can Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Electric cars are vehicles, which, instead of internal combustion engines, are driven by electric motors
and controllers. They have proved to be a good substitute for conventional vehicles and are considered
as a revolutionary innovation designed to protect the earth from the damaging effects of global
warming, as they work on the electricity supplying the integrated rechargeable battery that can be
easily recharged. Compared to traditional means of transport, electric vehicles seem to be more viable
and environmentally friendly because they do not need oil or other fossil fuels as an energy source but
the high cost of such a car and other important issues of exploitation discussed in this paper make their
use very doubtful comparing to the usual cars. The studies have shown that electric vehicles can
reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 6.12 billion tons annually (Westbrook, 2001). Even though they
need mainly coal as a supply of electricity, they produce less harmful emissions than oil, which is the
main source of energy for transport modes, driven by gasoline (Westbrook, 2001). With the
development of renewable energy technologies that use the power of wind or solar energy, people can
get a clean source of electricity, which will make the electric car more friendly to nature. In addition,
the introduction of regenerative braking system will allow cars to convert the force of inertia into
electricity, thus, adding, extra batteries, which, in return, increase its

Eating Healthy on a Budget
We all know how easy it is to stop by a fast food restaurant on our way home from work or while
running our kids back and forth to their sports but we don t really stop to think what that food is doing
to our bodies and how much it really does cost to eat out rather than taking a detour to the grocery
store and buy healthy meals and snacks. Most of us are trying to save money any way we can right
now. As living on a budget becomes more important, it is helpful to look at how to stretch your food
dollars and still eat a healthy diet. In these days of bank closures, foreclosures and greater than 10%
unemployed, it is not easy to buy foods that are healthy for us. While eating healthier can cost more

Eat Well, Be Well Eating the required five servings a day of fruits and vegetables and cutting down on
saturated fat and sugar is proven to help your health.
Can you imagine the vicious cycle created for the American poor? One of the endemic plagues of
poverty, poor nutrition, has been further compounded by the fact that the less money you have, the
less able you ll be to buy any truly nutritious foods. Dr. Adam Drewnowski, director of the center for
public health nutrition at the University of Washington, reveals the very real daily challenge those on a
tight budget face: If you have $3 to feed yourself, your choices gravitate toward foods which give you
the most calories per dollar, not only are the empty calories cheaper, but the healthy foods are
becoming more and more expensive. Vegetables and fruits are rapidly becoming luxury goods. (Dr.
Drewnowski).
Older people are most likely to improve their eating habits, but nutrition is important for people of all
ages, says Walter Willet, M.D., chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of Public
Health. We know that when people have health problems or their friends become ill, these are strong
motivators of change, the more serious the health condition, the more serious the change. We d rather
have people make changes early and prevent health problems in the first place. (Willet).

What Are The Causes And Effects Of Legalizing Marijuana
Lauren Ferguson

1 December 2016
Cause and Effects of Legalizing Marijuana Legalizing marijuana, or known as weed, can produce an
abundant number of pros and cons. Associating the legalization of marijuana to tobacco may generate
verbal and physical arguments between many individuals. Observations from a source the NYLN
Youth Leader Blog reports, the legalization of marijuana can regulate crimes, protect law enforcement,
provide medical benefits, and boost income ( 19 Primary Pros and Cons of Legalizing Weed n.p.).
Although weed may benefit its seller, it can cause treacherous dangers for handlers and non users.
According to the NYLN Youth Leader Blog, even though marijuana has its pros, it contains risks such

Many people seem to push for the legalization while others not so much. Marijuana is believed to help
ease painful illnesses as well as provide safety for law enforcement along with their attention to deal
with more serious crimes. With that being sad there are endangerments that come with using
marijuana such as the potential for a dealer to sell you synthetic weed with harmful chemicals.
Another con is the alteration in one s awareness when the drug is present in the body such as, the risk
of getting behind the car and causing a fatal accident meaning death for yourself or another individual.
Anyone can argue the pros and cons on marijuana, but the ratification may turn out to only harm more
people than what it is sought out to be. Along with the legalization of weed, many people are on the
big topic of tobacco use compared to marijuana. Tobacco is believed to have worse outcomes on your
body than weed, and allow you to have addiction issues as well as health issues. The use of tobacco in
avid smokers can cause damage to your heart, lungs, blood vessels, etc. Although tobacco is said to be
worse, some of the outcomes have similarities in both substances and are being investigated in hope

Wilfred Owen s Diction
Wilfred Owen s diction creates unusual and horrific view of war, and its consequences. Owen begins
the poem with What passing bells for these who died as cattle (1). Owen sees the dying soilders as
cattle, which make it seem inhuman, and death with no cause, making human seem like animals.
Owen also uses these instead of those, creates a sense of closeness, putting the reader on the
battlefield. He continues Only the monstrous anger of the guns / Only the stuttering rifles rapid rattle
(2 3). Owen uses personification of the guns making them a monstrous anger, which creates a violent
and gruesome itea. The personification of the gun creates a complete opposite switch, where humans

The passing bells in the first line is a reference to how the church used to ring the bells when someone
died. Owen states that the soldiers that die in battle do not get the lovely church bells, but the
continuation of rifles firing. The soldiers deaths are not recognized until the soldier returns home,
families try to make sense of their senseless death with rituals, songs, and funerals. The pallor of girls
brows shall be their pall (12). Owen shows a girl that was left behind after the soldier s death. Owen
replaces the common placing of pall on the coffin with a grieving face, meaning that instead of the
pall, the girl s face will be metaphorically draped over the coffin signifies the girls greef. Owen wants
the reader to see the real suffering that war causes by showing the weight of the girls sorrow. Owen
ends the poem with, And each slow dusk a drawing down of blinds (14). Owen reinforces the thought
of death in the last line with the settling of dust. The closing of the blinds is symbolic, and shows how
the people at home keep the realities of war out of their minds. Owen is also showing how people do
not take responsibility for their actions. Owen choose to have the blinds close themselve, so no one is
to blame for the closing of the blinds. It could also simply be a symbol of someone mourning by

The Abolition of Capital Punishment in Australia
Since the last execution in Australia in 1967 of Ronald Ryan and the abolition of capital punishment in
Australia in 1973 imprisonment has been the only option as a sanction for murder. A survey conducted
in 2009 demonstrated that a clear majority of Australians (64%) believed that imprisonment should be
the punishment for murder as opposed to 23% stating the death penalty should be used and 13% did
not wish to comment. The death penalty is not an effective punishment for all cases and there has not
been any solid evidence stating that it is a more effective deterrent than imprisonment. Furthermore
capital punishment possesses the risk of executing the innocent, which has happened or almost
happened numerous times in the past such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, implementing capital punishment is much more expensive than life imprisonment. In a
government with capital punishment, both the trial and appeal process are much more expensive in
comparison to noncapital cases as the trials are generally longer and more complex. Australian
lawyers estimate that a single capital punishment case could cost taxpayers around $5.5 million while
life imprisonment approximately costs $1.5 million.2 Saving money should not be an argument in
retaining capital punishment. If Australia re instated capital punishment, Federal and State taxes would
need to be increased, all community services would be drastically cut, more hidden taxes would be
introduced and finally all essential services and local government costs would also increase. This
exemplifies how life imprisonment should be the only option for offences as it not only costs millions
less, it also still ensures that the public is protected and the money saved could be spent on programs
that actually improve the communities in which we live. This highlights how international
jurisdictions for various reasons should, in majority of cases, follow Australia s example and abolish
capital punishment for murder and all crimes, however in some cases including repeat offenders such
as Peter Dupas capital punishment could be a more effective punishment.
Although in majority of cases capital punishment should not be an option worldwide, some offenders
have too high of a chance

Cosmopolitan Canopy Analysis
In cities all across America, people congregate in certain areas to either accomplish daily tasks or just
for personal gain. Whether one may know it or not, these places can become refuges from the
sometimes chaotic nature of reality even if it s for less than an hour. The Reading Terminal Market in
Center City, Philadelphia, serves as just one place among many. There are people who rush either by
foot or in their cars to get to wherever their destination is outside, but the moment someone steps
through the entrance, the market itself transforms into its own domain. Occasionally, whenever
someone opens the door, you can hear the car horns and shouts from people who are frustrated.
However, when you just look at the market and all it has to offer, all the stress from the day seems to
melt away. In Elijah Anderson s The Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race and Civility in Everyday Life, the
Reading Terminal Market is a prime example. Through the atmosphere, people, and personal first
hand encounters, anyone could call the Reading Terminal Market a cosmopolitan canopy. To begin, it
may be useful to get some insight of Anderson s piece of cosmopolitan canopies. As defined by
Anderson, a cosmopolitan canopy is a place where people come together from all varying walks of life
to take time to themselves and away from their busy lives. It serves as a common ground for people in
a surrounding area through a common interest or activity. There is no evidence of bigotry or tensions

The Hurt Locker Analysis
I have recently watched The Hurt Locker with my class. I have never seen this movie before, but the
movie was about a guy who was a bomb detacher. I do not know the specific name for those people,
but bomb detacher sounds right. He and his bomb squad went through a lot together during the war.
They faced the thought of dying every day. They found bombs all over the place that they were at. The
director made the intensity of the scenes with the bombs very realistic. The emotion of the characters
while detaching the bombs were realistic and the reality of the emotion made the viewers feel as if
though they were at the site too. The movie s setting was during and in the war. The bomb guy was the

American Sniper is about a man in the Army, who was obviously a sniper. He was one of the best

sniper. He ended up being one of the most recognized men that has ever been in the Army. His funeral
procession was the biggest one that I have ever seen. It was amazing seeing all of those people lined
up along the roads and on the bridges to see him off. The difference between the two main characters
of each movie is that one was a sniper, and one was part of a bomb squad. A bomb squad is people in
the military who search for bombs and detach the wires that set them off. They have to wear special
suits and everything and risk killing themselves every day. They had two totally different jobs, but
both jobs were equally gut wrenching and terrifying. This movie mad tons of money when it first

four out of five stars because some of the scenes drag out, but this movie is a well liked movie and

Doping in Sports and the Current Issues for Management
Once and for all, I did not use steroids or any other illegal substance. (Mark McGwire) Doping in
Sport and the current issues and challenges for sport management, how did it all start and what now?
Sports in the world have been generating billions and billions of dollars for years. This money comes
from sponsorships, media rights, and legal gambling. All of a sudden, out of know where several
sports have been destroyed by doping. Doping has questioned the integrity of most sports on a global
scale. A combination of sports businesses and the federal government has joined forces to place laws
and punishments to stop the use of both performance enhancing and recreational drugs. For years it
has been argued that small progress has been made due to ineffective plans and strategies for dealing
with doping in sports because of commitment from the organization within. Many have opinions on
the poor management and lack of reliable information to implement an appropriate doping policy.
(Doping in sports, 2014)
The use of banned performance enhancing drugs in sports is called doping. Using drugs to enhance
performance is frowned on and is looked at from most as cheating and unethical. The reasons to shut
down this form of cheating are mainly because of the health risk that comes with it, wanting all
athletes to be equal in a since, and to push for a drug free sport for all. Anti doping authorities state
that using performance enhancing drugs goes against the spirit of sport .

Synaptic Of Alzheimer s Disease Essay
and synapses to prevent amyloidosis and inhibit further aggregation56. In the CNS, nonneuronal cell
linages like astrocytes have been reported to have an elevated level of HSPs to target misfolded
protein degradation53. However, a major gap in the field is the lack of any such reports about the
extracellular chaperons in the protection of CNS and neuronal structure and function.
Although not fully understood, but it has been reported that different cells have different susceptibility
to proteotoxic stress. The unfolded protein response evoked by cells in response to proteotoxic stress
involves an orchestered functioning of the proteostasis pathways57.
Neuronal cells and cell of the central nervous system bear an increased risk of being burdened by
misfolded protein aggregates under stress or disease conditions. For example, dopaminergic neurons
in the substantia nigra in case of Parkinson s disease, motor neurons in the motor cortex and spinal
cord in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cholinergic neurons in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex in
case of Alzheimer s disease, are those cells with greater susceptibility in comparison to other cells51.
One way of looking at this is to explore the difference in terms of the expression of the proteostasis
components in these cells, and that of the pathological marker proteins like amyloid β, α synuclein,
Lewy body, huntingtin and bunnina bodies51. A comparison of deficiencies or abnormal expression

the person affected and has therefore acted illegally. People can only bring cases against public

because the Act has affected the way that judges are interpreting and developing existing laws the Act
can also affect both individuals and private organisations.
Clearly though, there will be situations that will arise where the rights contained within the Act will be
in conflict between individuals and authorities or organisations. For example, Article 11: Freedom of

some circumstances this may interfere with the rights that are protected under Article 8: The right to

protested against outside of their home. An example of this would be when animal rights organisations
stage demonstrations outside of the homes of scientists who work in laboratories which use live

Additionally, there are limitations to some of the rights contained within the Act. These are known as
qualified rights and in some circumstances these rights can be breached. Article 10:

similarity between the two was that they had people work on farms for them in order to get their cash

Bike Lanes
Dear Tom,
I chose to address the problem of not having bike lanes at UNR because it is something that I see
affects students everyday throughout campus. As not only a person who walks, but also rides
throughout campus, I am able to see from both sides of the spectrum why this is a problem. Not only
can it be a safety issue, but it is an inconvenience for anyone here at the University. I was able to
identify the stakeholders because I am one. Anyone here at the University is a stakeholder because
everyone on campus is affected by this problem. Many students, staff, and faculty are concerned with
the safety and wellbeing throughout campus, so with this problem being a major inconvenience I was
able to see how it may be concerning to some people. The most valuable sources of information I used
when researching this problem was the physical field research, establishing a survey, and the archival
research, meaning researching other schools and seeing how they handle or handled the situation. I
was able to ask many students whether they see not having bike lanes as a problem and every single
student I asked agreed. Although, it was a major problem being able to perform this field research. It

There can be no disclaiming the fact that textbooks still keep very large recognition and most are certainly here to stay even if one believes that textbooks are notably inflexible and one sided to be employed instantaneously as instructional material (Mohammadi Abdi, 2014, p. 1149). • 5. Joseph Stalin And Vladimir Putin Over the last century, Russia has been led by two of its most dominant and imperious leaders: Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many differences as well. Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party men, and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian communist system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were followed while his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens and urged citizens to spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech; violators of his laws were sent to Gulags, labor camps . After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir Putin was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once again in 2012 . However, there is much skepticism about the legitimacy and impartiality of the 2004 and 2012 elections. Experts state that Getting the necessary fifty percent to avoid a runoff would have been impossible without rigging the elections. From a young age, Stalin was reared to be devout in the Greek Orthodox Church in accord with his parents wish for him to become a priest; however, in the typical iconoclastic manner, when he ruled over ... In both of his readings, Lijphart argues (or concludes) that presidential system is heavily inclined towards majoritarian democracy, which can impede consolidating democratic regime in those countries that face deep ethnic cleavages. He further argues that parliamentary system and its consensus politics are much preferred to consolidate democracy in ethnically diversed countries. He presents several compelling evidence to support his argument by describing the essential features of presidentialism and how they account for the majoritarian tendency of the presidential system. In chapter six of his book, Patterns of Democracy, Liphart states that the difference between majority and consensus democracy is the range and depth of people s participation in the executive branch. He distinguishes presidential system and parliamentary system as the former creates one party majority cabinet where the power is concentrated in the hands of the majority and the latter produces multiparty coalition where its consensual nature allows broad power sharing within the executive cabinet. All these features indicate the strong link between presidential democracy and majoritarianism and how they can impede democratic consolidation. First, the fact that the president is elected through majority (or plurality) rule and that the executive power is concentrated to not only one person but also to one party, creating one party majority cabinet, induce presidential democracy to lean towards ... • 11. Charles Mingus Essay Eddie K. Jazz 219 Charles Mingus Charles Mingus is a very important and influential name in jazz; however he is left out by many historians when talking about the history of jazz. The main reason he is left out by so many historians, Mark Gridley in particular, is because of his attitude and ego. He is clearly not the most pleasant person, and he surely does not display how a real jazz musician should act, at least according to most historians. The way he acts during performances can be quite startling at first, if you are not familiar with his ways and methods of playing. Another chapter I would also include him in would be Chapter 5, How Swing Differs from Early Jazz . I would include Mingus in this chapter as well because it talks so much of his most influential Jazz artist, and at one point fellow band mate, Duke Ellington. I feel like Mingus truly does have enough variance in his music to help point out and draw the fine line between early jazz and the newer swing jazz. The main differences between these two categories of jazz are that in early jazz, you were a lot less likely to have the big band feel to the music, and soloist played a more important role in early jazz, whereas in the swing era, you were introduced to more of a variety of instruments as well as new techniques on how to play them. Mingus puts out good examples and songs/performances that clearly display how things transitioned from early Jazz to swing, and then onto other evolutions of jazz as well. After learning and hearing many of Charles Mingus s music, I definitely feel it is unfair for any historian to leave him out of an in depth jazz history book. I hope jazz book writers to come take note of Mingus s accomplishments, and start to include him in the history books right up there with Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and Louis Armstrong. To begin, Missa Mirabilis is a piece that was celebrated at the Westminster Cathedral for the feast of Corpus Christi on the 10th of June, 2007. This gave a new setting of the Mass by world renowned pianist, Stephen Hough. He named the piece Missa Mirabilis that is translated to Miracle Mass in English. While writing this script, he was involved in a car crash while driving at about 80 mph, but the script and Hough survived the crash. The work is bound by melodic lines with some choral structure that gives the piece a form of inner strength plus some unique harmonic cushion. The piece was well organized to give it some comfortable assurance. The speed that was employed in the piece was very moderate and was well handled by the chorus of singers who sounded buoyant and fresh at all times, even to the very last stage of the performance. The arranged movement that was used in the piece provided the contrast between different levels of vocals in a very intimate manner and way. This was very instrumental in providing the path that paved way for the difference between innocence and experience by the two different groups of performers. It gave a clear ... In the beginning of the eighteenth century, young girls began attending schools that offered basic skills such as reading, writing, and math. All of this prepared a young woman for marriage, which, in the nineteenth century, was put forward as being the culminating point of a woman s life (Basch 16). The major acoustical issues in public buildings are concerned with the exclusion of outdoor noise and the separation of noise generated within the buildings. This chapter will consider specific types of public buildings in which acoustic designs are a matter of importance, such as schools, offices, libraries, recreational buildings, hospitals and government buildings. To obtain a space free from the annoyance of noise and excessive reverberation, a few step one could take would be as follows: planning the build with consideration of noise insulation so that rooms which contain sources of considerable noise level are separated from rooms that are required to silent; providing sufficient noise insulation for rooms where silence is need as well as implementing sound absorption to reduces the reverberation and noise created by that room to a more acceptable level. It is well to recognise that uncontrolled noise in public buildings will diminish their utility Since the dawn of the twenty first century, public school have shown more attention to acoustical problems in part due to the increased use of open planning, more informal teaching methods and an increased use of audio visual aids. Epistemology is the theory of philosophy that ask the questions, What do you know? and How do you know it? Testimonial injustice involves preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience; that cause any individual to put a label another individual s words as a credibility deficit or a credibility excess. Fricker highlights, anyone can be a victim of epistemic injustices. In this paper, I will support Fricker s argument that identity preconception and prejudgments create credibility deficits consequently hindering right practice of epistemic that everyone should have. According to Fricker, epistemic injustice can occur when the regular everyday individual s filled his or her minds with prejudicial stereotypes and social power. A disadvantage of epistemic injustice is that with these prejudicial stereotypes and social images, their brains are programmed to trigger naturally a message to judge someone s accuracy on their knowledge. They have proved to be a good substitute for conventional vehicles and are considered as a revolutionary innovation designed to protect the earth from the damaging effects of global warming, as they work on the electricity supplying the integrated rechargeable battery that can be easily recharged. Compared to traditional means of transport, electric vehicles seem to be more viable and environmentally friendly because they do not need oil or other fossil fuels as an energy source but the high cost of such a car and other important issues of exploitation discussed in this paper make their use very doubtful comparing to the usual cars. The studies have shown that electric vehicles can reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 6.12 billion tons annually (Westbrook, 2001). Even though they need mainly coal as a supply of electricity, they produce less harmful emissions than oil, which is the main source of energy for transport modes, driven by gasoline (Westbrook, 2001). With the development of renewable energy technologies that use the power of wind or solar energy, people can get a clean source of electricity, which will make the electric car more friendly to nature. If Australia re instated capital punishment, Federal and State taxes would need to be increased, all community services would be drastically cut, more hidden taxes would be introduced and finally all essential services and local government costs would also increase. This exemplifies how life imprisonment should be the only option for offences as it not only costs millions less, it also still ensures that the public is protected and the money saved could be spent on programs that actually improve the communities in which we live. • 33. The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent And Depraved Analysis The story I chose to read was The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent and Depraved, by Hunter S. Thompson. The story is about at trip in which Thompson was to cover the race mentioned in the title. He was to meet up with an English illustrator by the name of Ralph Steadman who in later years would continue to collaborate with Thompson. • 34. Doping in Sports and the Current Issues for Management Once and for all, I did not use steroids or any other illegal substance. (Mark McGwire) Doping in Sport and the current issues and challenges for sport management, how did it all start and what now? Sports in the world have been generating billions and billions of dollars for years. This money comes from sponsorships, media rights, and legal gambling. All of a sudden, out of know where several sports have been destroyed by doping. Doping has questioned the integrity of most sports on a global scale. A combination of sports businesses and the federal government has joined forces to place laws and punishments to stop the use of both performance enhancing and recreational drugs. For years it has been argued that small progress has been made due to ineffective plans and strategies for dealing with doping in sports because of commitment from the organization within. Many have opinions on the poor management and lack of reliable information to implement an appropriate doping policy. (Doping in sports, 2014) The use of banned performance enhancing drugs in sports is called doping. Using drugs to enhance performance is frowned on and is looked at from most as cheating and unethical. The reasons to shut down this form of cheating are mainly because of the health risk that comes with it, wanting all athletes to be equal in a since, and to push for a drug free sport for all. Anti doping authorities state that using performance enhancing drugs goes against the spirit of sport . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Synaptic Of Alzheimer s Disease Essay and synapses to prevent amyloidosis and inhibit further aggregation56. In the CNS, nonneuronal cell linages like astrocytes have been reported to have an elevated level of HSPs to target misfolded protein degradation53. However, a major gap in the field is the lack of any such reports about the extracellular chaperons in the protection of CNS and neuronal structure and function. Although not fully understood, but it has been reported that different cells have different susceptibility to proteotoxic stress. The unfolded protein response evoked by cells in response to proteotoxic stress involves an orchestered functioning of the proteostasis pathways57. Neuronal cells and cell of the central nervous system bear an increased risk of being burdened by misfolded protein aggregates under stress or disease conditions. For example, dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra in case of Parkinson s disease, motor neurons in the motor cortex and spinal cord in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cholinergic neurons in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex in case of Alzheimer s disease, are those cells with greater susceptibility in comparison to other cells51. One way of looking at this is to explore the difference in terms of the expression of the proteostasis components in these cells, and that of the pathological marker proteins like amyloid β, α synuclein, Lewy body, huntingtin and bunnina bodies51. A comparison of deficiencies or abnormal expression pattern of proteostasis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under this procedure judges will decide whether or not the public authority has infringed the rights of the person affected and has therefore acted illegally. People can only bring cases against public authorities. Cases cannot be brought against privately funded organisations or individuals. However, because the Act has affected the way that judges are interpreting and developing existing laws the Act can also affect both individuals and private organisations. Clearly though, there will be situations that will arise where the rights contained within the Act will be in conflict between individuals and authorities or organisations. For example, Article 11: Freedom of association and assembly. This Article protects the right to peaceful protest and demonstration. In some circumstances this may interfere with the rights that are protected under Article 8: The right to respect for private and family life. This could occur when the activities of an individual are being protested against outside of their home. An example of this would be when animal rights organisations stage demonstrations outside of the homes of scientists who work in laboratories which use live animals in experiments. Additionally, there are limitations to some of the rights contained within the Act. These are known as qualified rights and in some circumstances these rights can be breached. Article 10: ... • 40. Bike Lanes Dear Tom, I chose to address the problem of not having bike lanes at UNR because it is something that I see affects students everyday throughout campus. As not only a person who walks, but also rides throughout campus, I am able to see from both sides of the spectrum why this is a problem. Not only can it be a safety issue, but it is an inconvenience for anyone here at the University. I was able to identify the stakeholders because I am one. Anyone here at the University is a stakeholder because everyone on campus is affected by this problem. Many students, staff, and faculty are concerned with the safety and wellbeing throughout campus, so with this problem being a major inconvenience I was able to see how it may be concerning to some people. The most valuable sources of information I used when researching this problem was the physical field research, establishing a survey, and the archival research, meaning researching other schools and seeing how they handle or handled the situation. I was able to ask many students whether they see not having bike lanes as a problem and every single student I asked agreed. Although, it was a major problem being able to perform this field research. It takes time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
