Advantages Of Reflexive Standardization Of The Information...
According to Ole Hanseth et al (2010), reflexive standardization is the process of supporting efforts to
bring about order and organization in a function, and instead of achieving positive results, negative
results are achieved. Reflexive standardization brings about negative results as a result of failing to be
planned adequately from the onset. For instance, take for example the Norwegian hospital; the
development of the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) was developed as a fragmented record of
databases. The records brought about challenges in the manner in which they were accessed and as a
result, there was need to redesign the system. Instead of setting aside a development team to redesign
the system based on thorough research, the hospital decided to centralize the database and create
several views for different system users to view these records. This was deemed to be the reflexive
standardization of the information system. It had both advantages and disadvantages as discussed.
Necessity and Advantages
The proverbial elephant in the room was the scattering of records and the need to ... Show more

Most are not able to fully imitate a traditionally synchronized system such as an hospital. They thus
offer the necessary support to these systems instead of fully taking over their functions. In this case,
the systems present seemed to hinder the proper functioning of the hospital to its optimal potential. It
did not do much to increase service delivery thus came off as a hindrance to the success of the hospital
s functions. The system was also deemed by Ole Hanseth (2010) as a complex system. The word
complex is defined with respect to the ability of the new practitioners to understand the use of the
system. By being complex, the system fails in its quest to become a better solution as opposed to
traditional record keeping

Causes Of Drought In South Dakota
The focus of chapter three was about the federal irrigation systems, which was caused by weather
events. The year of 1880 s, South Dakota and nearby states survived a natural disaster. South Dakota
was hit by a blizzard and in the result of that suffer from a drought right after. This is when people
began to search for new homes and a place that had water and a fertile land. The drought affected most
the farmers that lived in that area due to the inexperienced with irrigation. The drought helped
irrigation companies start businesses to better the farming industry. Unfortunately, most of the
businesses failed and shut down very quick. The state of California initialed an attempt to create a plan
to conserve and ration out water. The outcome

When the two men come face to face they are both shot from below establishing that there they are
both strong figures, which is an important film noir tactic. The other officers around them are shot at
eye level. The tension between them begins with a racial comment from Quinlin stating that Vargas
doesn t sound like a Mexican. When Vargas reassures Quinlin that he wont he won t have any trouble
with him, Quinlin responds with, you bet your sweet life I wont. The shot ends with a second of
silence focused from below on Quinlin s shadowed face. The use of shadows is also a key element of
film noir, which helps to create the dark and mysterious world that surrounds the characters. Quinlin
increasingly represents a common character in film noir. Although he is a strong character in the eyes
of his fellow officers, he is portrayed as a loner who has become disillusioned and insecure. His
scenes with Tanya Tana (Marlene Deitrich) are revealing of Quinlin s past and his downward spiral
since then. She comments that she didn t recognize him and that he should lay off the candy bars
making it obvious that Quinlin has physically deteriorated since they were at one time involved. As
the film goes on Quinlin falls back into drinking and spends the later part of the film completely
intoxicated. Although Tanya acts indirectly as Quinlin s significant female, she does not represent the

Sound Connections Chapter Summary
Chapter 3 TONAL AND RHYTHM SYLLABLE SYSTEMS
Amber Hall
MUSE 100
Dr. Palmer
RT 2
The third chapter of Don P. Ester s book, Sound Connections, introduces many systems for teaching
pitch and rhythm. The chapter discusses the benefits and disadvantages of the many systems, such as,
Ester starts by introducing his idea of the criteria for selecting effective syllable systems. One of his
many points is, The syllables must connect very efficiently with the aural syntax of music, allowing
the learner to easily link syllables to patterns before encountering notation. The next being The
syllables must eventually link to musical symbols in a practical and intuitive manner. The last being,
The syllables should be appropriate for use with all ages. Ester also outlines specific guidelines for
tonal and rhythmic systems that vary from each other. The most successful systems chosen by Ester
meet these criteria points, and are outlined as to why they are the most successful. ... Show more

As Ester explains both of these methods, he is quick to point out the flaws and show why they are no
longer used today. The first method does not cover the primary focus of reinforcing specific letter
names, while the second method allows incorrect rhythm. There is a German version that has single
syllables, but it does not correlate with English flats or sharps. Another flaw quickly mentioned by
Ester, is the fact that a different syllable pattern has to be sung for each tonic triad associated with the
fifteen key signatures, making it nearly impossible for beginner level students to comprehend. This
clearly does not meet the criteria of being appropriate for all

The Black Sea Economic Cooperation
On June 25th, 1992 the Head of state and the government of eleven countries, Albania, Armenia,
Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine, signed in
Istanbul the Summit Declaration and the Bosporus Statement giving birth to the Black Sea Economic
Cooperation (BSEC). It came into existence as a unique and promising model of multilateral, political,
and economic initiative aimed at fostering interaction and harmony among the Member States. The
Economic Cooperation also wanted to ensure peace, stability and prosperity encouraging friendly and
good neighborly relations in the Black Sea region. While The Black Sea Economic Cooperation was
placed into existence in 1992, it was not till 1994 that the headquarters for the BSEC came into place.
The Permanent International Secretariat of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation
became known as the BSEC headquarters. On May 1, 1999, the BSEC acquired international legal
identity and was transformed into a full fledged regional economic organization: Organization of the
Black Sea Cooperation. The BSEC stretched out their wings out for one more country. On April 2004,
Serbia was the twelfth member added to the organization. The BSEC spans two continents and
represents a region of about 350 million people. It also covers a geography encompassing the
territories of the Black Sea littoral States, the Balkans and the Caucasus with an area of nearly 20
million square kilometers. As

Patience Between Caesar And Pompey The Sole Consul
Patience between Caesar and Pompey continued to wear thin, beginning with the dissolution of the
Triumvirate; the three leaders, Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus. Tensions continued to strain when the
senate appointed Pompey the Sole Consul. Appointing Pompey the Sole Consul was not meant to
offend or outrage Caesar, but soon it would become a matter of great importance. The city had been
distracted by frequent street fights between the armed bands of Clodius, a politician known for his
populist tactics; and the armed bands of T. Annius Milo, a political agitator who claimed that he was
defending the cause of the Senate. In one such fights, Clodius was killed; and his death enraged many
followers, resulting in angry mobs and riots. Followers burned his body in the Forum by a wild mob,
and the senate house destroyed during the anarchy. The senate felt obligated to confer power upon
Pompey, and so he was named Sole Consul. Under this title, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

48, Caesar transported his troops from Brundisium across the Adriatic to meet the army of Pompey,
with the few ships he had obtained. There were two battles between the armies of Caesar and Pompey.
In the first at Dyrrhachium (Pronounced: Dyratium), Caesar was defeated. Caesar then retreated across
the peninsula in the direction of Pharsalus, as to draw Pompey and his army away from their seacoast
supplies. In the second and final battle, the two armies led by their generals met in Pharsalus. With
about twenty thousand men, Caesar defeated the army of Pompey, whose army consisted over forty
thousand men. Fleeing to Egypt, Pompey was murdered. Caesar now accomplished the first part of his
plan to rule Rome by taking possession of Italy and defeating the two armies of Pompey in Spain and
Greece. He had established his title to supremacy, and honors were paid to him in Rome. He was made

London 1908 The Court of Honor
By day it is a vision of dazzling whiteness, with its tiled court and plashing cool waters, its pointed
arcades and lattice windows. At night it is equally effective with its thousands of lights and the
rainbow colours of the cascade. ~Robert W. Carden, Architectural Review July, 1908
Despite varied opinions about the 1908 Franco British Exhibition, an event designed to confirm the
friendly relations between France and Britain as described in the Entente Cordiale, there was
collective praise for the Court of Honor. The full grandeur of the Court can hardly be felt by an image.

Already impressive during the day, the view was brilliant at night: a cascade of water flowed over a
framework of semi opaque glass with colored lights beneath, producing a brilliant rainbow of light

Imre Kiralfy, its coordinator, was the driving force behind the fair. He had found previous fame in
running extravagant exhibitions, and lived up to expectations by planning the Franco British
Exhibition concurrently with that year s Olympiad, held in a stadium nearby. Kiralfy saw the fair as an
opportunity to gain cultural respectability; however, since he was not a trained architect, he received
much criticism on his designs. He designed the Court of Honor as well as the steel frames for all of the
major buildings, then consulted the architects who devised the plaster facades to create the White City.
Many critics felt that he limited the creativity of the architects by giving them pre planned structures
for their buildings. Placing blame on Kiralfy, they denounced the cosmetic role leading architects were
asked to fulfill, pointing out the vulgar error of putting the wrong end of the stick before the horse.
(Greenhalgh). There were also complaints that the buildings did not fit together, despite the overall
whiteness of the fair. This was mainly the result of two very different countries contributing

Typical American Teenager Essay
The typical American teenager goes through many stages of psychosocial change from the ages
between 12 and 18. Adolescence is a difficult time for most because it is a huge transition time from
being a child to becoming an adult. Many of these changes or challenges are so common that they are
experienced by almost everyone. Some are brought on by physical changes in appearance and
hormones while others are more psychological. Famous psychologist, Sigmund Freud, believed that a
person s biological activity will motivate their behavior and development. (Life Span page 36)

She is easily influenced and makes her care about what everyone thinks of her. Having so much
pressure being put on her by her peers causes her to be very pristine and preppy. Claire is the girly girl
of the Breakfast Club group and doesn t like being pressured into discussing her private life with
others. When she is made to feel like a prude she gets really upset. She is a good girl but doesn t really
want people to know it. Being called out makes her angry and she doesn t like being opened with
others because she is afraid they will judge her or make fun of her. As many teen girls do, she feels
helpless to how things are and that she can never truly be herself if she wants to be accepted by her
friends. Another teen in the movie is John Bender, also known as just Bender. He is considered to be
the criminal and is the more likely to exhibit risky behavior. He does drugs and often gets himself into
trouble. He is rebellious and does whatever he wants, whenever he wants. Bender is angry and his
attitude is sarcastic and judgmental. He has a tendency to say cruel things he doesn t necessarily mean
to get a rise out of people. He often acts out in a negative way to try and impress people. Crude and
vulgar language seems to be his favorite way of trying to impress others, especially if it offends them.

Rabbit Proof Fence Sociology
Rabbit proof fence directed by Phillip Noyce is a film about a true story involving three half cast
Aboriginal young girls from a school they were obliged to attend, far away from their hometown
under the laws made by A.O.Neville a government official. In 1931, they were taken away from their
mothers and were forcibly moved to the Moore River Settlement School in Perth, Western Australia.
They were educated in the British ways eventually to become servants and compulsorily had to adapt

Artificial Selection And Its Effects On Our Health
It would probably surprise most people to learn that broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, and kohlrabi
all hail from wild cabbage (Brassica oleracea), due to a process called artificial selection. Over
thousands of years humanity has manipulated plants and animals using artificial selection. However,
we now have a different process called genetic engineering, which opens new doors to countless
applications such as, genetically modifying plants to become cold, resistant. Traditionally we would
have to rely on artificial selection, but now we can manipulate the genetic material of organisms.
However, with new technology comes an issue of environmental impact. The very same organisms
that we create can become exceedingly detrimental to the environment it s ecosystems. Concerns on
the effects of these organisms on our health are justified as they can be a benefit or detriment. To
better appreciate genetic engineering, we first must explore artificial selection and its history. Artificial
selection is the process in which humans breed organisms based on physical traits they want to further
enhanced or eliminate, in a way artificial selection relies heavy on the phenotype of the organism.
Which is the physical trait expressed by genes. An example would be the domestication of the dog.
Around 15,000 to 16,000 years ago, we began to breed wolves and actively select for tameness. Li et
al. (2013), found this rapid evolution was probably driven by artificial selection during the

Symbols and Symbolism in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The...
Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne isn t noted for perfecting any famous literary style, for writing multiple best
sellers, or even for contributing largely to classic American literature. His only real claim to fame is
The Scarlet Letter: a novel that was originally only meant to be yet another Hawthorne short story.
Because of this, it actually possesses many short story characteristics. It is simpler and more complete
than his other novels. (James 285) It also has an excellent plot backed by an expert use of literary
techniques. One technique Hawthorne used was borrowed solely from drama: the use of the aside.
Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale delivers an aside in the midst of the action in chapter three, ... Show

At first, the scarlet letter meant Adulteress and was a sign of scorn. It was a brand used for easy
identification of an untrustworthy criminal. But as time progressed, and the initial shock of such
actions as adultery subsided, the townspeople, especially the women, took note of the fact that Hester
had accepted the responsibility of her actions by sewing the scarlet letter herself. They also observed
that she did so with unmatched precision. Eventually this made them yearn for needlepoint talent like
she possessed. They began relying on her to sew exquisite patterns for them, gradually inviting her
back in their society. By wearing the scarlet letter proudly, Hester had eventually changed the meaning
of the A from Adulteress to Able. The townspeople saw Hester for her inner beauty, not for the scarlet
letter forever branded onto her bosom. They realized the sacrifice and pain that she went through to
regain their trust and respect. Gradually, throughout the novel the scarlet letter becomes an article of
pride, and Hester a woman deserving respect.
One object that holds great symbolic value is often over looked and discarded as an unimportant
detail. It is the black glove that Dimmesdale left on the scaffold after his night vigil of regret and guilt.
What, on the surface, may seem as a minute, petty detail becomes rather powerful when the reader
realizes that the

The Pros And Cons Of The Collective Bargaining Process
The NLRB regulates and determines whether or not an employer has committed an unlawful act of
unfair labor practices during the collective bargaining negotiation process (Holley, Wolters Ross,
2012). During the collective bargaining process the labor union and the employer try to hash out labor
relations differences. The goal is for a positive resolution of labor relations disputes between
employers and employees. Positive labor relations are good for the economy and for the consumers.
Settlement of these difference also create a positive working relationship between the employees and
management and avoids work stoppages or economic losses. The collective bargaining process allows
for mandatory and permissive subjects to be part of the collective bargaining process (Sockell
Delaney, 1986). Section 9 of the NLRA states that issues such as wages, employment terms and
workplace conditions are required subject during the collective bargaining negotiation process
(McManemin, 1962). All these actions during the collective bargaining process must done in good
faith. Good faith means that the either side in the process meets at a reasonable time to discuss all the
mandatory and mutually agreed upon permissive subjects. If the issue is considered permissive the
employer is not required to negotiate these issues during the bargaining process. Since the language in
the law of the NLRA does explicitly state which issues are mandatory or permissive so these issues
have been

Rhetorical Analysis Of John Carpenter s The Thing
John Carpenter is one of the 21st century most original directors and cinematographers. Carpenter is
known as the master of horror narrative, but he offers the viewer more than a good scare. Carpenter
leaves his audience questioning their beliefs and identifying with the characters he personifies.
Carpenters use of allusion in his films plants direct messages into our subconscious. Carpenter has a
particular flare for slaying the innocent in his films and playing on the irony of the lease guilty or least
likely person tragically dying. In Assault on Precinct 13, the little girl getting ice cream laying slain
next to the ice cream truck man was not done by accident. Carpenter is deliberate in his approach to

Carpenter received critical acclaim for Assault in Precinct 13. From the introduction of the film, we
are given settle warnings about the events to come. Carpenter captures many street scenes with signs
that said no parking , do not enter and no seating . Interestingly enough these signs would appear right
before or after a scene of devastation. Carpenter uses color to convey symbolic messages as well. The
color blue is used on the African American officer tie to convey patriotism and civil service. On the
other hand the color red is used in the brae of one of gang members and stands out on all of the
warning signs to symbolize danger (bad guys). Even more symbolic is the dart board which is hung in
the police station, which had two blue darts and a red bulls eye reinforcing the conflict between good
guys vs. bad buys consequently as the movie plots envelopes, we find ourselves catching the settle
details along the way.
John Carpenters career began while he was still studying in college. He launched his career with the
makings of short films in 1962. Carpenter experienced success early in his career, going on to win his
first academy award in 1970. In 1974 Carpenter released sci fi comedy, Dark Star . Dark Star was an
independent film by Carpenter and only had a budget of about $60,000. Dark Star has been mentioned
as one of the Top 10 space movies of all time and has good reason to. Dark Star as a black comedy

The Influence Of Hadrian On The Roman Empire
Hadrian ruled the Roman Empire at the time it was considered the greatest empire in the history of the
world. According to Elizabeth Speller, Hadrian was the first Roman Emperor who went beyond the
common stereotype of good and bad Roman leaders (Speller 230 288). She describes his regime as
that which had a wavering beginning, a celebrated middle and a disastrous ending. He is known for
having made several travels and visiting almost all the provinces during his regime. However, his
travels were not pleasure oriented but rather driven by his determination to see the Roman Empire get
to the top by constantly keeping in check the discipline of the army around the provinces and ensuring
that the provinces had the right administration. Being the fourteenth Roman Emperor, Hadrian is
ranked third among the five best emperors who ever ruled the Roman Empire and emerged as the few
leaders who ruled justly. Speller also cites his great public speaking ability and his excellent
philosophical knowledge as some of the reasons which made him more powerful and projected his
authority. Therefore, it is important to note that there are several attributes, deeds and projects that
Hadrian used to project his authority and power.
Romans remember him for his massive contribution to the empire by actively taking part in projects
involving building where he built one of the greatest walls in the world knows as the Hadrian s Wall.
Even though he spent much time travelling and away from Rome

American Indian Political Activism Essay
American Indian political activism played a tremendous role throughout history, which has laid the
foundation for how Indians are being treated with more respect in today s society. In 1961, about the
same time as the meeting in Chicago, the National Indian Youth Council (NIYC) was founded
(Hudson). The goal of the NIYC was to protest against civil disobedience and to bring awareness to
Indian heritage (Document of Indian Militancy, pg. 527). To promote the NIYC, young Indians would
speak at colleges, important national organization meetings and hearings of government agencies
(Document of Indian Militancy, pg. 527). This group of activists served as a new generation that was

Many Indians resorted to alcohol, believing that a beer could solve their problems, He thought one
more beer could save the world. One more beer and every chair would be comfortable, one more beer
and the light bulb in the bathroom would never burn out (The Lone Ranger and Tonto First Fight in
Heaven, pg. 88). The goal of AIM was to help Indians get back on their feet and become successful
(Hudson). To achieve their goal of helping their fellow citizens, AIM would help other Indians find
jobs and get an education (Hudson). AIM simply wanted change for urban Indians by helping in
anyway possible (Hudson). In addition to helping other Native Americans, AIM was also concerned
with police abuse, specifically in Minneapolis (Hudson). In 1968, AIM created the Indian Patrol,
which would watch ghettos and listen to police calls (Hudson). If the Indian Patrol saw police being
unjust, they would take pictures to serve as evidence (Hudson). In 1969, AIM went to patrol Alcatraz
Island (Hudson). The members along side the NIYC were there to defend their culture (Hudson).
Through all of their efforts and actions, the outcome of AIM was quite successful. AIM was able to
expand from being local to national, which was a great source for many Native Americans. In 1944

[Attention Getter ] When I first came to Las Vegas in the summer of 2003, we visited the Lake Mead
very often and knowing now of how much lower the water has gotten over the years has been quite
shocking to me.
[Audience Justification / Relevance] Since I been living in Las Vegas for about 15 years now, I ve
noticed how much the drought has affected us here.
[Thesis Statement] Lake Mead has suffered a drought for more than 15 years, causing Nevada
residents to cut back on water usage.
[Preview of Main Points] That being said, I would like to inform you about what is causing the
drought in Lake Mead, how it s affecting Nevada residents and ways that we been trying to improve
the situation.

Conclusion
[Review of Main Points] In Conclusion the cause of the Lake Mead Drought, how is was affecting
Nevada residents and ways we tried to improve the situation were the main things happening with the
Lake Mead Drought. [Relevance to Audience] I hope you get a better understanding of the reasons
why Nevada residents had to become stricter throughout the years on taking care of the way they use
their water.

Investigating The Wave Speed Of Traveling Waves On A...
ii. Experiment 7
The first part of this experiment involved calculating the wave speed of traveling waves on a string
that was bounded on both sides (i.e. one side bounded by a clamp, and the other by a pulley) for three
different tensions being applied. The wave speed was calculated using two different methods:
1. By calculating the tension that was being applied to the string, T=(m_1+m_2 )g, where m_1 is the
mass of the hanging weight, and m_2 is the mass of the portion of the string hanging from the pulley,
and by calculating the linear mass density (μ) of the stretched string. After finding the tension (T), and
the linear mass density (μ), the predicted speed can be found using Equation (7.1):
v_predicted=√(T/μ)
2. By finding the total distance that the wave traveled (L), and multiplying that by two to get the total
travel distance, and dividing that quantity by the time it takes to complete one full oscillation, a
measured wave speed can be found:
v_measured=2L/∆t
For the first method, it is necessary to know the linear mass density of the string (μ), which can be
found by taking the total mass of the string (M), and dividing it by the total length of the string
(L_total). However, for this experiment, the string will be stretched to various lengths depending on
how much tension force is being applied by the hanging masses from the pulley. Also note that there
was no excess string hanging limply from the back of the pulley. Therefore, the linear mass density

The Theme Of Marriage In James Joyce s The Boarding House
The Boarding House is a short story by James Joyce published in his 1914 collection Dubliners. In the
short story The Boarding House the theme marriage is explored as it offers promise and profit on one
hand, but entrapment and loss on the other. What began as a simple affair becomes a tactical game of
obligation, manipulation, and reparation. Mrs. Mooney s and Mr. Doran s propositions and hesitations
suggest that this marriage is focus more on morals, fear, manipulation, social norms, public
perception, along with formal sanctions than about mere feelings. Mrs. Mooney, a butcher s daughter,
married one of her father s foreman. Her husband descended into alcoholism, ruining the family
business and becoming increasingly violent until Mrs. Mooney procured a separation. She took the
last of their money and set herself up in a boarding house to make a living. Her son, Jack, and
daughter, Polly, live with her in the house, which is filled with clerks from the city, as well as
occasional tourists and musicians. Mrs. Mooney runs a strict and tight business and is known by the
lodgers as The Madam. (pg. 416) Polly, is a slim nineteen year old girl, with light soft hair and grey
eyes. Polly, was a very lively girl. Polly, who used to work in an office, but now stays at home at her
mother s request, because Mrs. Mooney wants to give her a run of the young men. She flirts with
them, but none of the men are serious about her. Polly inevitably develops a relationship with one of
them, Mr. Doran. which Mrs. Mooney and everyone else knows about the relationship, but instead of
sending Polly back to work in the city, she monitors its developments. The narrator illustrates Mrs.
Mooney s knowledge of the affair between Polly and Mr. Doran by noting she waited for it to be the
right moment to intervened. (417) Finally, Mrs. Mooney intervenes, she first confronts Polly who
confesses all. Then she lets Polly know what she intends to do, she will confront Mr. Doran and tell
him that he must marry Polly. Mr. Doran was a thirty four or thirty five man who stayed in the
boarding house. He worked as an employee for thirteen years in a great Catholic wine merchant s
office. He

Stevens Johnson s Syndrome Essay
Introduction: This research was conducted to demonstrate the usage of allopurinol can result in
Cutaneous Hypersensitivity reaction. Stevens Johnson s syndrome (SJS) is a cutaneous
hypersensitivity reaction which occurs in 3 5% of hospitalized patients.1 These severe cutaneous
adverse reactions are characterized by epidermal necrosis, extensive detachment of the epidermis,
erosions of mucous membranes and severe constitutional symptoms.4 Despite the Low incidence, SJS
has a high mortality rate as stated by BMC Medical Genetics. According to Pharmacogenetics
Genomics, Medications are considered to be the major cause of Stevens Johnson s syndrome (80%).

Furthermore, new indications for the use of allopurinol in cardiovascular diseases have been approved
over the course of recent years.5 Allopurinol is the most common cause of SJS in some countries like
Europe and Israel. In 2008, it was documented that 59% of female patients were exposed to
allopurinol.1Although SJS is very rare but the death rate was significantly higher in patients recently
exposed to allopurinol (18 of 56, 32%) than among patients not exposed to allopurinol (59 of 313,
18.8%).1 The US FDA has received a total 23 cases of severe drug reactions to allopurinol over the
period 2002 2009.3 Recently, HLA B*5801 allele has been associated with severe cutaneous drug
reactions in Han Chinese.3 In 2009, Pharmacogenetics Genomics found a huge association between
HLA B*5801 allele and allopurinol associated Stevens Johnson s syndrome by 80 97 times compared
to those without the gene.4 Risk factors: HLA B*58:01 allele has been found to be a huge risk factor
for allopurinol induced Steven s Johnson Syndrome.4 Elderly women with renal dysfunction is
indicated to be a risk factor for allopurinol induced Steven s Johnson Syndrome.4 The strength of
allopurinol has been noted tto be a risk factor. The daily dose of 200 mg or greater has been associated
with a higher risk of developing this hypersensitivity reactions. Pathophysiology/Mechanism of

How Did Chinese Technology Change Over Europe
China enjoyed a number of technological advances over Europe in the period running up to the 15th
century, most significantly the development of gunpowder, compasses and printing. These inventions
revolutionised European technology facilitating exploration, conquest and literature. Unlike in Europe,
these inventions were not put to such use by the Chinese who held a fairly isolationist view. Meaning
that they did not involve themselves in trade to nearly the same degree as many Europeans. In this
essay I will be assessing China s technological lead over Europe before the 16th century and
commenting on the extent to which they held this lead. I will then go on to consider the main events,
which took place in China, and particularly in Europe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be contributed to the fact that China did not utilize their inventions to nearly the same extent
as Europe. Lynda Shaffer is to a broad extent in agreement with this as she argues that Needham s
question can thus be understood to mean, Why didn t China use gunpowder to destroy feudal walls?
Why didn t China use the compass to cross the Pacific and discover America, or to find an all sea
route to Western Europe? (Lynda Shaffer, World History Bulletin, Fall/Winter 1986/87). This can
broadly be explained by the fact that long historical unity of China, covering a large land mass, meant
that it was mostly self sufficient. China did not need the outside world, which was inferior anyway .
(Roy Bailey, EC120, week 3). Moreover, China was never exposed to the fiercely competitive states
system of Europe (Roy Bailey, EC120, week 3), which would have demanded China to remove itself
from an isolationist position in order for the country to survive. In contrast to this, European countries
took advantage of the newly discovered technologies. The use of gunpowder in Europe made castles
and other such structures associated with the medieval period obsolete, as castles were no matches for
something, which could destroy their walls. This helped to free Europe from its feudal

contain many similarities and differences in their persecution and accusation of people who are
identified as criminals of their societies. Both events in history contain extremely similar
circumstances, including the accusation of one person leading to a mass hysteria enveloping a society

including time, society structure, and the magnitude of the event. McCarthyism is named for Joseph

Another similarity between the two events is the fear of the unknown fear that swept through America
during these two time periods. In the 1600s, the people of Salem believed that they were besieged by
the devil, and became so scared of that possibility they began to see things from a perspective that led
them to believe that all things that happened that were not of a good nature were of the devil and
caused by a witch in the village. This movement reappeared in the McCarthy era, when people began
to see others spying, sending money, and supporting communism when, in fact, they were totally
against communism. Perhaps these people needed to read The Crucible and see how much they
resembled the girls in Salem on their witch hunt. In all their similarity, there are some major
differences between The Crucible and the McCarthyism of the fifties. The most obvious difference is
the four hundred year gap between the events of The Crucible and the events that occurred during the
McCarthyism period. This gap represents a distinct and different society between the two events in
history, and shows that circumstances pertaining to these events cannot be the same. Also, the source
of fear is different between the two times in history. The people of Salem feared what they considered
were the witches of their village,

Another Common Environmental Factor That Engineers Are
Another common environmental factor that engineers are concerned with when they consider the
conditions of bridges is wind loads. These are especially a hazard to cable supported bridges because
the system relies on a delicate balance of pressure that holds up the bridge, which can be easily
disturbed under high winds. One example of this is the Tacoma bridge failure in Washington state in
1940. While examining the evidence, engineers found that when the wind hits the body of the bridge,
it creates forces that oscillated the bridge, which caused instability (Gianni and Gazzola). Additionally,
when these bridges were built, the environment they were in was drastically different than it is today.
Although engineers took population increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this was the specific reason for the collapse, the broader problem was inadequacies in state
inspections and the federal government failing to audit the state`s work adequately.
Another reason why designs of bridges fail is because there is not cohesiveness in the theory behind
construction and actual construction. Sometimes construction is either too dependent on theory or
ignorant of it, either way the assumptions made during design and construction are dangerous. This is
shown in the case of the Williamsburg Bridge where:
The rationale justifying the use of non galvanized high strength cable wires on the Williamsburg
Bridge was summarized as follows: If the wires are maintained dry, they do not need zinc coating. If
not, it will not save them in the long term. This reasoning may appear sound, yet it lacks both the
practical knowledge of life cycle cable performance and a theoretical model of wire deterioration.
(Yanev 119)
This gap between theory and practice in directly related to a gap between engineers and management.
Currently, engineers are in control of the design and construction, but the process of this operation is
given to management whose primary concern is cutting production cost. Consequently, necessary
redundancies are lost during construction. Although this eliminates initial cost, it increases future cost
because

Some abiotic factors in the savanna biome include weather and climate, and forest fires. Climate is
very important to the biome because if the rainfall or the temperature alters from regularity, the
animals and plants will not be able to survive. Savannas have warm temperatures year round, with a
very wet season and then a very dry season. The rainy season occurs over the summer and brings

Comparative Analysis of Economic and Political Cleavages in South Africa and Zimbabwe
Introduction
Comparative politics is concerned with examining the characteristics or qualities of two different
political entities to discover resemblances or differences. These entities can be general in nature, for
example, the comparison of two countries, or more specific in nature, comparing two different
systems of government. But, whether general or specific in nature, comparative politics tries to
determine what caused the governments to form in the way that they did.
One way to do this is to look for the cleavages that affected each of the countries in question. A

This brief discussion will cover such areas as land reform and the impact of political decision making
on landowners and non landowners in a historically agrarian and ranked society and on race,
substandard housing, unemployment, and unequal allocation of funding for public health.
Land Reform
Historically, land reform programs in South Africa and Zimbabwe has been similar in some respects.
It is necessary to briefly review the history of each country in respect to this cleavage to better
understand current discontinuities and to note the clear differences in contemporary land reform that
are being implemented in the two countries.
Both South Africa and Zimbabwe were British colonies. All the land in these colonies was owned by
white Europeans and farmed by poor black Africans. In 1980, Rhodesia broke from the bondage of
white rule and elected its first black president, Robert Mugabe, who came with promises of restoration
of the land to native Africans, and of better health care and educational opportunities. The now
independent Rhodesia was renamed Zimbabwe in 1980.
But during the 1980 s, drought and white emigration badly damaged the economy, which already
strained by the need for massive government spending in the long neglected areas of black education,
health, and social services. The cleavages over land distribution, which continue today, present an
ongoing challenge to the government and an obstacle to agricultural development and will be

The Bastard Out Of Carolina
Bastard out of Carolina is a novel which examines the expectation of a mother child relationship, child
maltreatment and gender roles. It is based on the narrative of Ruth Anne Bone Boatright who grows
up in rural Greenville County, South Carolina in the 1950 s and 60 s. Bone s 15 year old mother,
Anney Boatright, conceived Bone out of wedlock after being injured in a car accident which
ultimately led to an illegitimate stamp on Bones birth certificate. Bone was raised in a very
disadvantaged part of town. In an attempt to make sense of the chaotic and confusing dark world she
lives in, she looked at her extended non traditional family for support (grandmother, Aunts, uncles and
cousins). Circumstances regarding socio economic status, gender, race, sexuality and child
maltreatment play out in Bone s life as well as in her relationships with others throughout the novel.
The focus is on Bone s relationship with her mother Anney, the abuse that Bone endured from Anney s
second husband Glen Daddy Glen Waddell and Anney s attempt to deal with the abuse she eventually
witnessed herself. Bone endured maternal neglect from Anney as Anney ignored the long term abuse
and ultimately ran away with the abuser to continue a relationship. Even after several witnessed
beatings, Anney would allow her love for Glen overpowers her need to protect and love Bone. Bone
was also a victim of physical, psychological and sexual abuse. After a couple of years into the

Observing another culture without your personal convictions influencing your hypothesis is nearly

How Did Jose Limón Changed My Life
What I saw simply and irrevocably changed my life. I saw the dance as a vision of ineffable power. A
man could, with dignity and towering majesty, dance... dance as Michelangelo s visions dance and as
the music of Bach dances. These were the words spoken by José Limón as he witnessed his first dance
program in the New York City in 1928. José Limón would come to be known as one of the most
critical figures in the development of modern dance. Coming from a country with a rich, diverse

19). From 1932 to 1933, Limón made two more Broadway appearances, in the musical revue
Americana and in Irving Berlin s As Thousands Cheer, choreographed by Charles Weidman ( José

al. 19). Limón made several more appearances throughout the next few years in shows such as
Humphrey s New Dance, Theatre Piece, With my Red Fires, and Weidman s Quest (Lewis et al. 19).
In the 1930s, Limón also developed his skills as a choreographer ( José Limón ). At the Bennington
Festival at Mills College in 1939, he created his first important work, Danzas Mexicanas (Lewis et al.
20). In 1943, Limón s made his final appearance on Broadway in Balanchine s Rosalinda, a piece he
performed with Mary Ellen Moylan ( Jose Limón ). After being discharged from the United States
Army at the end of 1945, Limón became a United States citizen ( José Limón ). In 1946, he

a cultural mission to South America to perform in 1954 (Limón et al. 121). Furthermore, Limón
scored a success with his first major work, The Moor s Pavane in 1949, which compressed the

Society And Puritan Similarities
The textbook and article have numerous similarities and differences that can be seen. This is a great
advantage in trying to show the truth in what is real and what is made up about the Puritan society.
The similarities offer greater comparison in the authenticity of the articles for the Puritan community.
The Puritans try to live their life as a community, instead of as individuals. Also, the Puritans tried to
live to the godliest standard that they could, and men were held to a higher standard than women in
the community. The textbook and article do a great job in comparing community, godliness, and
superiority in regards to the Puritan society. According to Steven Mintz and Susan Kellogg, For the
Puritans, family ties and community ties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gave little to no power to the wife or children of the family. According to Mintz and Kellogg,
Patriarchal authority in the Puritan family ultimately rested on the father s control of landed property
or craft skills (61). This shows that the family relied greatly on what the father offered and gave the
family, instead of what each person had to offer. The only way for women to have any power was to
be unwed, or be a widow. According to Mintz and Kellogg, The experience of widowhood did give a
small number of colonial women a taste of economic independence (65). This shows that women were
pretty much property in relation to their husband. From the textbook, Almost every adult man could
speak out and vote in town meetings, but all women even church members were prohibited from
voting (85). This shows that only men could make laws and had any say in what went on in the
community. According to Mintz and Kellogg, Customarily it was the father, as head of the household,
who represented his family at the poll (59). Again, this quote shows the power that men had in the
Puritan society. All of the above quotes do not show any real independence or equality for the women
of the Puritan community, but instead, show the dominance of being a godly man. Once a woman
become married, she became practically property to the man she had wed. This inequality gave
enormous power to the

  • 2. Advantages Of Reflexive Standardization Of The Information... According to Ole Hanseth et al (2010), reflexive standardization is the process of supporting efforts to bring about order and organization in a function, and instead of achieving positive results, negative results are achieved. Reflexive standardization brings about negative results as a result of failing to be planned adequately from the onset. For instance, take for example the Norwegian hospital; the development of the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) was developed as a fragmented record of databases. The records brought about challenges in the manner in which they were accessed and as a result, there was need to redesign the system. Instead of setting aside a development team to redesign the system based on thorough research, the hospital decided to centralize the database and create several views for different system users to view these records. This was deemed to be the reflexive standardization of the information system. It had both advantages and disadvantages as discussed. Necessity and Advantages The proverbial elephant in the room was the scattering of records and the need to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most are not able to fully imitate a traditionally synchronized system such as an hospital. They thus offer the necessary support to these systems instead of fully taking over their functions. In this case, the systems present seemed to hinder the proper functioning of the hospital to its optimal potential. It did not do much to increase service delivery thus came off as a hindrance to the success of the hospital s functions. The system was also deemed by Ole Hanseth (2010) as a complex system. The word complex is defined with respect to the ability of the new practitioners to understand the use of the system. By being complex, the system fails in its quest to become a better solution as opposed to traditional record keeping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the two men come face to face they are both shot from below establishing that there they are both strong figures, which is an important film noir tactic. The other officers around them are shot at eye level. The tension between them begins with a racial comment from Quinlin stating that Vargas doesn t sound like a Mexican. When Vargas reassures Quinlin that he wont he won t have any trouble with him, Quinlin responds with, you bet your sweet life I wont. The shot ends with a second of silence focused from below on Quinlin s shadowed face. The use of shadows is also a key element of film noir, which helps to create the dark and mysterious world that surrounds the characters. Quinlin increasingly represents a common character in film noir. Although he is a strong character in the eyes of his fellow officers, he is portrayed as a loner who has become disillusioned and insecure. His scenes with Tanya Tana (Marlene Deitrich) are revealing of Quinlin s past and his downward spiral since then. She comments that she didn t recognize him and that he should lay off the candy bars making it obvious that Quinlin has physically deteriorated since they were at one time involved. • 6. Sound Connections Chapter Summary Chapter 3 TONAL AND RHYTHM SYLLABLE SYSTEMS Amber Hall MUSE 100 Dr. Palmer RT 2 The third chapter of Don P. Ester s book, Sound Connections, introduces many systems for teaching pitch and rhythm. The chapter discusses the benefits and disadvantages of the many systems, such as, Ester starts by introducing his idea of the criteria for selecting effective syllable systems. One of his many points is, The syllables must connect very efficiently with the aural syntax of music, allowing the learner to easily link syllables to patterns before encountering notation. The next being The syllables must eventually link to musical symbols in a practical and intuitive manner. The last being, The syllables should be appropriate for use with all ages. Ester also outlines specific guidelines for tonal and rhythmic systems that vary from each other. The most successful systems chosen by Ester meet these criteria points, and are outlined as to why they are the most successful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Ester explains both of these methods, he is quick to point out the flaws and show why they are no longer used today. The first method does not cover the primary focus of reinforcing specific letter names, while the second method allows incorrect rhythm. There is a German version that has single syllables, but it does not correlate with English flats or sharps. Another flaw quickly mentioned by Ester, is the fact that a different syllable pattern has to be sung for each tonic triad associated with the fifteen key signatures, making it nearly impossible for beginner level students to comprehend. This clearly does not meet the criteria of being appropriate for all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Patience Between Caesar And Pompey The Sole Consul Patience between Caesar and Pompey continued to wear thin, beginning with the dissolution of the Triumvirate; the three leaders, Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus. Tensions continued to strain when the senate appointed Pompey the Sole Consul. Appointing Pompey the Sole Consul was not meant to offend or outrage Caesar, but soon it would become a matter of great importance. The city had been distracted by frequent street fights between the armed bands of Clodius, a politician known for his populist tactics; and the armed bands of T. Annius Milo, a political agitator who claimed that he was defending the cause of the Senate. In one such fights, Clodius was killed; and his death enraged many followers, resulting in angry mobs and riots. Caesar then retreated across the peninsula in the direction of Pharsalus, as to draw Pompey and his army away from their seacoast supplies. In the second and final battle, the two armies led by their generals met in Pharsalus. With about twenty thousand men, Caesar defeated the army of Pompey, whose army consisted over forty thousand men. Fleeing to Egypt, Pompey was murdered. Carden, Architectural Review July, 1908 Despite varied opinions about the 1908 Franco British Exhibition, an event designed to confirm the friendly relations between France and Britain as described in the Entente Cordiale, there was collective praise for the Court of Honor. Already impressive during the day, the view was brilliant at night: a cascade of water flowed over a framework of semi opaque glass with colored lights beneath, producing a brilliant rainbow of light (Carden). Surrounding structures were illuminated by lanterns and other electrical lighting. Imre Kiralfy, its coordinator, was the driving force behind the fair. He had found previous fame in running extravagant exhibitions, and lived up to expectations by planning the Franco British Exhibition concurrently with that year s Olympiad, held in a stadium nearby. Kiralfy saw the fair as an opportunity to gain cultural respectability; however, since he was not a trained architect, he received much criticism on his designs. He designed the Court of Honor as well as the steel frames for all of the major buildings, then consulted the architects who devised the plaster facades to create the White City. Many critics felt that he limited the creativity of the architects by giving them pre planned structures for their buildings. Placing blame on Kiralfy, they denounced the cosmetic role leading architects were asked to fulfill, pointing out the vulgar error of putting the wrong end of the stick before the horse. (Greenhalgh). There were also complaints that the buildings did not fit together, despite the overall whiteness of the fair. • 14. Artificial Selection And Its Effects On Our Health It would probably surprise most people to learn that broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, and kohlrabi all hail from wild cabbage (Brassica oleracea), due to a process called artificial selection. Over thousands of years humanity has manipulated plants and animals using artificial selection. However, we now have a different process called genetic engineering, which opens new doors to countless applications such as, genetically modifying plants to become cold, resistant. Traditionally we would have to rely on artificial selection, but now we can manipulate the genetic material of organisms. However, with new technology comes an issue of environmental impact. The very same organisms that we create can become exceedingly detrimental to the environment it s ecosystems. Concerns on the effects of these organisms on our health are justified as they can be a benefit or detriment. To better appreciate genetic engineering, we first must explore artificial selection and its history. Artificial selection is the process in which humans breed organisms based on physical traits they want to further enhanced or eliminate, in a way artificial selection relies heavy on the phenotype of the organism. Which is the physical trait expressed by genes. An example would be the domestication of the dog. Around 15,000 to 16,000 years ago, we began to breed wolves and actively select for tameness. Li et al. (2013), found this rapid evolution was probably driven by artificial selection during the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter Nathaniel Hawthorne isn t noted for perfecting any famous literary style, for writing multiple best sellers, or even for contributing largely to classic American literature. His only real claim to fame is The Scarlet Letter: a novel that was originally only meant to be yet another Hawthorne short story. Because of this, it actually possesses many short story characteristics. It is simpler and more complete than his other novels. At first, the scarlet letter meant Adulteress and was a sign of scorn. It was a brand used for easy identification of an untrustworthy criminal. But as time progressed, and the initial shock of such actions as adultery subsided, the townspeople, especially the women, took note of the fact that Hester had accepted the responsibility of her actions by sewing the scarlet letter herself. They also observed that she did so with unmatched precision. Eventually this made them yearn for needlepoint talent like she possessed. They began relying on her to sew exquisite patterns for them, gradually inviting her back in their society. By wearing the scarlet letter proudly, Hester had eventually changed the meaning of the A from Adulteress to Able. The townspeople saw Hester for her inner beauty, not for the scarlet letter forever branded onto her bosom. They realized the sacrifice and pain that she went through to regain their trust and respect. Gradually, throughout the novel the scarlet letter becomes an article of pride, and Hester a woman deserving respect. One object that holds great symbolic value is often over looked and discarded as an unimportant detail. • 16. The Pros And Cons Of The Collective Bargaining Process The NLRB regulates and determines whether or not an employer has committed an unlawful act of unfair labor practices during the collective bargaining negotiation process (Holley, Wolters Ross, 2012). During the collective bargaining process the labor union and the employer try to hash out labor relations differences. The goal is for a positive resolution of labor relations disputes between employers and employees. Positive labor relations are good for the economy and for the consumers. Settlement of these difference also create a positive working relationship between the employees and management and avoids work stoppages or economic losses. The collective bargaining process allows for mandatory and permissive subjects to be part of the collective bargaining process (Sockell Delaney, 1986). Section 9 of the NLRA states that issues such as wages, employment terms and workplace conditions are required subject during the collective bargaining negotiation process (McManemin, 1962). All these actions during the collective bargaining process must done in good faith. Good faith means that the either side in the process meets at a reasonable time to discuss all the mandatory and mutually agreed upon permissive subjects. According to Elizabeth Speller, Hadrian was the first Roman Emperor who went beyond the common stereotype of good and bad Roman leaders (Speller 230 288). She describes his regime as that which had a wavering beginning, a celebrated middle and a disastrous ending. He is known for having made several travels and visiting almost all the provinces during his regime. However, his travels were not pleasure oriented but rather driven by his determination to see the Roman Empire get to the top by constantly keeping in check the discipline of the army around the provinces and ensuring that the provinces had the right administration. Being the fourteenth Roman Emperor, Hadrian is ranked third among the five best emperors who ever ruled the Roman Empire and emerged as the few leaders who ruled justly. Speller also cites his great public speaking ability and his excellent philosophical knowledge as some of the reasons which made him more powerful and projected his authority. Therefore, it is important to note that there are several attributes, deeds and projects that Hadrian used to project his authority and power. • 21. Investigating The Wave Speed Of Traveling Waves On A... ii. Experiment 7 The first part of this experiment involved calculating the wave speed of traveling waves on a string that was bounded on both sides (i.e. one side bounded by a clamp, and the other by a pulley) for three different tensions being applied. The wave speed was calculated using two different methods: 1. By calculating the tension that was being applied to the string, T=(m_1+m_2 )g, where m_1 is the mass of the hanging weight, and m_2 is the mass of the portion of the string hanging from the pulley, and by calculating the linear mass density (μ) of the stretched string. After finding the tension (T), and the linear mass density (μ), the predicted speed can be found using Equation (7.1): v_predicted=√(T/μ) 2. By finding the total distance that the wave traveled (L), and multiplying that by two to get the total travel distance, and dividing that quantity by the time it takes to complete one full oscillation, a measured wave speed can be found: v_measured=2L/∆t For the first method, it is necessary to know the linear mass density of the string (μ), which can be found by taking the total mass of the string (M), and dividing it by the total length of the string (L_total). However, for this experiment, the string will be stretched to various lengths depending on how much tension force is being applied by the hanging masses from the pulley. Also note that there was no excess string hanging limply from the back of the pulley. Therefore, the linear mass density ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Did Chinese Technology Change Over Europe China enjoyed a number of technological advances over Europe in the period running up to the 15th century, most significantly the development of gunpowder, compasses and printing. These inventions revolutionised European technology facilitating exploration, conquest and literature. Unlike in Europe, these inventions were not put to such use by the Chinese who held a fairly isolationist view. Meaning that they did not involve themselves in trade to nearly the same degree as many Europeans. This can be contributed to the fact that China did not utilize their inventions to nearly the same extent as Europe. Lynda Shaffer is to a broad extent in agreement with this as she argues that Needham s question can thus be understood to mean, Why didn t China use gunpowder to destroy feudal walls? Why didn t China use the compass to cross the Pacific and discover America, or to find an all sea route to Western Europe? (Lynda Shaffer, World History Bulletin, Fall/Winter 1986/87). This can broadly be explained by the fact that long historical unity of China, covering a large land mass, meant that it was mostly self sufficient. China did not need the outside world, which was inferior anyway . (Roy Bailey, EC120, week 3). Moreover, China was never exposed to the fiercely competitive states system of Europe (Roy Bailey, EC120, week 3), which would have demanded China to remove itself from an isolationist position in order for the country to survive. In contrast to this, European countries took advantage of the newly discovered technologies. The use of gunpowder in Europe made castles and other such structures associated with the medieval period obsolete, as castles were no matches for something, which could destroy their walls. • 27. Another Common Environmental Factor That Engineers Are Another common environmental factor that engineers are concerned with when they consider the conditions of bridges is wind loads. These are especially a hazard to cable supported bridges because the system relies on a delicate balance of pressure that holds up the bridge, which can be easily disturbed under high winds. One example of this is the Tacoma bridge failure in Washington state in 1940. While examining the evidence, engineers found that when the wind hits the body of the bridge, it creates forces that oscillated the bridge, which caused instability (Gianni and Gazzola). Additionally, when these bridges were built, the environment they were in was drastically different than it is today. Although engineers took population increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this was the specific reason for the collapse, the broader problem was inadequacies in state inspections and the federal government failing to audit the state`s work adequately. Another reason why designs of bridges fail is because there is not cohesiveness in the theory behind construction and actual construction. Sometimes construction is either too dependent on theory or ignorant of it, either way the assumptions made during design and construction are dangerous. This is shown in the case of the Williamsburg Bridge where: The rationale justifying the use of non galvanized high strength cable wires on the Williamsburg Bridge was summarized as follows: If the wires are maintained dry, they do not need zinc coating. If not, it will not save them in the long term. This reasoning may appear sound, yet it lacks both the practical knowledge of life cycle cable performance and a theoretical model of wire deterioration. (Yanev 119) This gap between theory and practice in directly related to a gap between engineers and management. Currently, engineers are in control of the design and construction, but the process of this operation is given to management whose primary concern is cutting production cost. Consequently, necessary redundancies are lost during construction. Although this eliminates initial cost, it increases future cost because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparative Analysis of Economic and Political Cleavages in South Africa and Zimbabwe Introduction Comparative politics is concerned with examining the characteristics or qualities of two different political entities to discover resemblances or differences. These entities can be general in nature, for example, the comparison of two countries, or more specific in nature, comparing two different systems of government. But, whether general or specific in nature, comparative politics tries to determine what caused the governments to form in the way that they did. One way to do this is to look for the cleavages that affected each of the countries in question. A cleavage is a split that occurs within a culture and can cause conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This brief discussion will cover such areas as land reform and the impact of political decision making on landowners and non landowners in a historically agrarian and ranked society and on race, substandard housing, unemployment, and unequal allocation of funding for public health. Land Reform Historically, land reform programs in South Africa and Zimbabwe has been similar in some respects. It is necessary to briefly review the history of each country in respect to this cleavage to better understand current discontinuities and to note the clear differences in contemporary land reform that are being implemented in the two countries. Both South Africa and Zimbabwe were British colonies. All the land in these colonies was owned by white Europeans and farmed by poor black Africans. In 1980, Rhodesia broke from the bondage of white rule and elected its first black president, Robert Mugabe, who came with promises of restoration of the land to native Africans, and of better health care and educational opportunities. The now independent Rhodesia was renamed Zimbabwe in 1980. But during the 1980 s, drought and white emigration badly damaged the economy, which already strained by the need for massive government spending in the long neglected areas of black education, health, and social services. The cleavages over land distribution, which continue today, present an ongoing challenge to the government and an obstacle to agricultural development and will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I edited out the second group/center doing the same thing I did with the group that is in my video. Starting out I was really nervous about being in kindergarten, because I have mainly been in the upper grades during clinical and my first experience of student teaching. There was a lot I learned from first experience in different areas where I needed to grow as a future teacher. I took all of the comments from my mentor teacher and university supervisor, and applied them to this second experience so I could improve and find other areas I need to strengthen. As I was videoing this lesson I found myself so focused on the group that I was videoing, that some of the other groups were getting a little loud. One thing I need to work on is to not let videoing keep me from correcting other students when they need reminded to stay on task. This is something new that I felt like I struggled with this second video, because in kindergarten they do centers. This gave little to no power to the wife or children of the family. According to Mintz and Kellogg, Patriarchal authority in the Puritan family ultimately rested on the father s control of landed property or craft skills (61). This shows that the family relied greatly on what the father offered and gave the family, instead of what each person had to offer. The only way for women to have any power was to be unwed, or be a widow. According to Mintz and Kellogg, The experience of widowhood did give a small number of colonial women a taste of economic independence (65). This shows that women were pretty much property in relation to their husband. From the textbook, Almost every adult man could speak out and vote in town meetings, but all women even church members were prohibited from voting (85). This shows that only men could make laws and had any say in what went on in the community. According to Mintz and Kellogg, Customarily it was the father, as head of the household, who represented his family at the poll (59). Again, this quote shows the power that men had in the Puritan society.
