James Meredith Impact On Civil Life
When James Meredith recalled the events that happened on Sept. 20, 1962, all he said was I
considered myself engaged in a war from day one (James Meredith Quotes). But what does this mean?
In 1962, there was lots of segregation occurring, and that includes the town of Oxford, Mississippi.
The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) was segregated at the time, and there were a lot of problems
when they found out that 29 year old James Meredith wanted to enroll, especially because he had
colored skin. He knew that there was going to be some people who would disagree with the idea, but
he didn t realize how far they would take it. James Meredith was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on
June 25, 1933. He is the son of Moses and Roxie Meredith, and was raised on a farm with 9 siblings.
When he was old enough, served in the United States Air Force for 9 years. After he served, he
enrolled in Jackson State College, which was for colored skin only. He studied there until 1961, and
eventually sent his application to go to the University of Mississippi. At first, they were not aware of
his skin color, and initially accepted him, but then turned him down when ... Show more content on

Today, the school still recognized the anniversaries of the riot, and when they became integrated. They
are proud of their heritage, and have speakers, artists, and events hosted at the school to help the
students be more informed about the event. Meredith was also awarded the Harvard Graduate School
of Education Medal for Education Impact award and spoke to the school about the riot. This award
was the first award he had accepted in the last 50 years. He gave hope to African Americans wanting
to get into all white colleges and schools. He also helps with education today, and his family. Many
great civil rights speakers based some of their movements off what James Meredith did. He impacted
the United States and helped shape the world we live in today (James

and flaws. Keywords Performance Evaluation, Benchmarks, Network Monitoring, Traffic Generation.
Network communication is an increasing phenomenon as associated technologies are improving. This
is very important in the all aspects of life. In present time, there is a lot of traffic over various kind of
networks. Due to this, the network performance gets compromised. There are wide range of network
performance and traffic generation tools available and these are very useful for the network

A Look Into The Culture Of Yemen
A Look into the Culture of Yemen
Yemen has surprised the world with its unexpected collapse into war. Yemen has a great strategic
value to nations vying for regional super power status, yet remains a cultural mystery to most of the
Western World. The culture of Yemen and its key fundamentals will be addressed.
Culture is extremely important in understanding a certain area or society. Culture is customs or beliefs
of a certain place or society. Five characteristics that define culture are learned, shared, symbolic,
intergraded, and dynamic culture ( Chapter 9: The characteristics of culture, n.d.). Learned culture
passes on socially and physically. Their customs and way of life pass on through their immediate

The Red Sea is to the west, and the Gulf of Aden is to the south. The physical geography is a mix of
mountainous terrain and desert. Yemen can be broken down into six regions the Tihama, highlands in
the west, central mountains, high plateau in the east, limestone tableland, and the Gulf of Aden coastal
plain. The Tihama is an area on the along the Red Sea, which provides commerce and trade on the
ports of al Mukha and al Hudayda. Fishing and agriculture are very popular in this area. The highlands
in the west get rain round the year to provide water for the agriculture. The central mountain region
where the capital of Sanaa lies has urban area but also areas of plateaus and basins. The plateau region
in the east eventually connects with the Rub al Khal desert with somewhat primitive living styles.
Plateaus and wadis along with seaports such as al Mulkalla and al Shahr make up the limestone
tableland. Finally, the five to ten mile wide stretch that starts from Aden all the way to al Ghayda is
the Gulf of Aden coastal plain region (Advameg, 1985). In 2013, the population was 25.4 million
people (Asia, 2015). Sanaa, Yemen s capitol is also the largest city, having a current population of 1.9
million people (Asia, 2015).
Yemen is not a very advanced country and is actually very poor; therefore, its infrastructure is
deteriorating or nonexistent. Of the roads they do have, only ten percent of them are paved, making
transportation via roadway more

For long term goals you don t need to be as specific right now, but you should list them and under
them list a few steps or smaller goals that need to be achieved before you are able to achieve them.
With the long term goals always think big. Another good exercise for long term goals is to make a

King Solomon Research Paper
The temple of Jerusalem or the temple built by King Solomon. The establishing is in accordance with
the Divine Eternal Covenant between David and Yahweh. David wanted to build God a permanent
house of worships, where there could be centralized worship for the people of Israel. Through this
covenant with God, God would build David a family dynasty (House) and David s son, King Solomon
would build the house of worship for God.
According to the ABD, Nothing has survived to the present day of the temple built by King Solomon.

The most heralded of all was the building of King Herod. King Herod s plans or desires were more
self serving than Godly. His plans were more geared towards those groups he could glean something
from, his supporters, people he respected or people who might respect him, and the flat out admiration
he pined for. King Herod stayed true to the original dimension of the biblical temple. However, from
there all shackles of conformity were unlocked. Herod would expand and raise the temple platform,
thus creating an unparalleled and truly monumental temple precinct containing the sanctuary, courts,
gates, a fortress (Antonia), approaches, porticoes, and subsidiary buildings. In keeping up King Herod
s ego, the only thing that Herod really out did King Solomon in the way of building craft. Was the
Herod out blinged King Solomon in the gold over laying inside of the temple?
Not even the calamities of destructions to the religious temples could thwart the desire for a
permanent place to worship for the followers of Judaism and even that of Christianity. Past tradition
and customs is a cornerstone of belief and a way of life for these followers of God. The quest for
rebuilding the past will always be of paramount concern for the believers in Yahweh. As long as the
Torah exists, there will always be a blueprint for God s

Models of Metadiscourse Essay examples
Metadiscourse has traditionally been defined in general as text about text . This too broad, and rather
imprecise, definition entails a degree of reflexivity with which a text is enabled to refer to or to talk
about itself or its parts. The concept of metadiscourse may have borrowed its reflexivity property to
language in general, which can also function reflexively comment on the language or verbal system
itself. In this reflexive form of language, called metalanguage , the metalinguistic function of
language, which is also central to the metadiscourse model used in this study, is most evident.
The metalinguistic function is one of the six functions of language proposed by Jakobson (1998), and
the other five are expressive, directive, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These functions are apparent in a definition of metadiscourse by Williams (1989: 27 28), a researcher
into metadiscourse who works under this approach: the language that we use when we describe what
we are doing as we think and write about the content of our primary ideas, or what we want our
readers to be doing as they read. It is writing about reading and writing. Crismore et al (1993: 39) put
more consideration towards the improved readability of text as the main function of metadiscourse:
for how readers should read, react to, and evaluate what they have written about the subject matter .
Among researchers into metadiscourse who work under the broad approach is Vande Kopple (1985,
1988), whose classification of metadiscourse into seven kinds has been used and developed in
research by other researchers as well. A brief summary of his taxonomy, adapted from Adel s
summary with her examples (2006: 168 170) will be presented here. The first group is Text
Connectives , which highlights text organization and relations between one part of a text with another
and connects pieces of information in the text. It comprises four subgroups: Logical connectors (on
the other hand), Announcements (as we shall see, in later chapters), Reminders (the argument about
progress describe above), and Sequencers (First, ... Second, ...). Code Glosses (that is, contradiction)
give signals and hint at rephrasing and interpretations of the text; it anticipates responses towards the

Power Balance Controversy Analysis
Power Balance bracelets have been around for just over five years and ever since they came out they
have been surrounded by controversy. The bracelets claim to increase your ability to balance along
with prolonging your stamina. Both claims are completely false and are not supported by any actual
science. Despite having no real affect on your athletic ability hundreds of thousands of athletes
purchased and wore these bracelets in the hopes their abilities would be heightened. . A large reason
the Power Balance company has been so successful is due to the amount of celebrity athletes that wear
and endorse their product. For example, Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox has been wearing
balance bracelets since 2012. Younger baseball

Differences Between Rfid And Barcode
1) Differences between RFID and Barcode:
RFID and barcodes have some similarities since they both carry product information and they are both
data collection technologies, which automate the process of collecting data. However, they have
significantly differences which are as follows:
 Barcode readers require a direct line of sight to printed barcode; RFID readers do not require a
direct line of sight to either active RFID tags or passive RFID tags.
 RFID tags can be read at much greater distances; and RFID reader can pull information form a tag
at distances up to 300 feet. The range to read a barcode is much less, typically no more than 15 feet.
 RFID tags much faster; read rates of forty or more tags per second are possible. Reading ... Show

Reservation Blues Essay
Reservation Blues by Sherman Alexie continually forces you to think about the concept of
Americanization, more specifically of the Native Americans. Sherman Alexie used forms of racial
loathing in presenting how Native Americans handle the Americanization process.
In Reservation Blues, a group of Native Americans formed a band called Coyote Springs and struggle
to integrate themselves into mainstream American society. Their talents are overshadowed by their
inability to be accepted as Indians. While none of the band members exhibit any outright hatred for
their race, Victor and Junior do illustrate resentment for traditional Indian customs. Their attitude
concerning their identity does border self hate.
Whereas the other band members, Chess and Thomas embrace the tradition of storytelling, Victor and
Junior despise it. Storytelling was a rich tradition among all Native Americans. This is how stories
were passed down from generation to generation, through oral tradition. The stories passed down were
ways of recording the history, culture, and beliefs of Native American tribes. In her article Native

Individuality And Uniqueness In Emerson s Self Reliance By...
1. In the essay Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of originality and uniqueness
to depict the idea that these are the qualities that make people great. Emerson stated that We but half
express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represent in order to argue
that each person has a uniqueness because their environments is unique (Emerson 2). The quote infers
that every person in society has an ability to possess a unique idea. Every person has a unique idea,
which means that every person can become a free thinker. Those who do not act on their thoughts and
ideas due to societal rules lose the chance to become unique. Emerson believed that Society is a wave.
The wave moves onward, but the water of which it is composed does not , meaning something sparks
society to do something, everyone starts doing it but why they do it is lost over time (Emerson 20).
The wave of society represents the masses and the water that makes up the wave are the individuals in
society. Every person has an ability to possess a divine thought but cannot ferment it because of
societal restraints (the wave). Due to the influence of society, one lacks the strength to act on their
original thought and follows the crowd. Martin Luther acted on his original thought but thousands of
people adopted his thoughts, even though the reasons for his regional thought are no longer present.
Instead of creating and following their own ideas, they adopted Luther s instead. In society, many
people follow and imitate well established beliefs, thus leading to the lack of divine thought. In the
reading, Emerson came to a conclusion that all people have divine thoughts but cannot act on them
because of societal influences.
2. In the reading titled Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of truth and honesty.
According to Emerson, one who went Upright and vital, and speak the rude truth is unique (Emerson
4). Emerson followed this quote stating that one shall Speak what you think now in hard words, and
tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks...though it contradicts everything (Emerson 7). What Emerson
views as a man simply stating his thoughts and ideas can be seen in society as a contradiction in

Machiavelli’S The Prince Was Written During The Early Years
Machiavelli s The Prince was written during the early years of the sixteenth century and was one of
the most profound and controversial pieces of literature to emerge from the Renaissance. The political
treatise was written for Lorenzo de Medici in hopes that he would use the principles taught in it to rule
in Italy. Machiavelli planned for the piece of literature to impress Medici and hopefully persuade him
to give Machiavelli a position within the Italian government, a position that he longed to go back to.
The Medici family ultimately never implemented any of Machiavelli s recommendations, but one
could find examples of famous rulers from the past that exemplify Machiavelli s ideal ruler. The
Prince is a timeless piece of literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the very least, one could say that the books influence spread much farther than the author intended
or even expected to. According to Machiavelli, there are four main ways that a prince is able to come
to power. The first way to achieve power is through prowess (personal skill and ability). The second
way is through fortune, which means good luck. The third way is through corruption; examples would
be to attain power through a rebellion, plot, or assassination. The fourth and last way is constitutional,
meaning to attain power by support from either the nobles or commoners. The most important
comparison to be made between these four ways is between prowess and fortune. Attaining a state
through prowess is clearly going to be more difficult than profiting from sheer good fortune, however;
a prince that is blessed with prowess is more likely to hold a strong foundation on his rule, whereas a
man with fortune is erratic and unpredictable which potentially leads to a prince s overthrow just as it
had to his rise. That being said, preserving a prince s power is far easier when said prince attained
power through his own cleverness. Being that the preservation of power is essential to Machiavelli, he
determines that prowess is the better of the two routes for becoming a prince. Another similarity can
be made amongst the criminal and constitutional methods of attaining control. The main

Ignorance is bliss. Cypher is allowing himself to give into samsara because he believes that living in
samsara is superior to being enlightened.
Cypher can be seen as the one that gives into samsara while the other shipmates on the

displayed when Trinity and other crew members tracked down Neo at the beginning of the movie.
They were willing to go into The Matrix to help yet another person achieve enlightenment.

Essay on A Continuation of To Kill a Mockingbird
The day after my twelfth birthday, the money had almost completely burned a hole in my pocket.
Scout and I started to town in the early afternoon to purchase a steam engine for me and a twirling
baton for her. We took our normal path, right by Miss Dubose s house and unfortunately, she was out
on the porch.
Where are you going at this time of day? she shouted. Playing hooky, I suppose. I ll just call the

a confused, horrified look on her face. I kept on moving.
We got to town and I bought the steam engine I had been wanting. I did not really care, just tossed it in
my pocket like a gum wrapper. We went by Elmore s for Scout s baton that she had been longing for. I
could not think of anything. I was not mentally there. I don t think any part of me was there, except
my body.
As we were passing Mrs. Dubose s empty porch and gate, I lost it. With as much force as I could I
yanked Scout s baton from her and ran wildly up the wicked lady s steps into her yard forgetting
everything I knew. There was not a thought in my mind about what Atticus had taught me about being
a gentleman, or the kind of pistol Mrs. Dubose carried in her shawl.
I did not stop until I had cut the top off every sickeningly beautiful camellia bush the old hag owned.
As the ground collected green buds and leaves, I bent and cracked Scout s baton in half on my knee.
She was wailing after that, so like the mad man I was being I grabbed her by the hair and told her if
she did not shut up I would pull it all out of her head. She did not cease, so I kicked her so she fell on
her face. I helped

For Many Years, Academics And Athletics At The Ncaa Division
For many years, academics and athletics at the NCAA Division 1 level have been guided by different
priorities, admitting college athletes who are unqualified for an education of that level just because of
their ability to perform on the playing field. Now more than ever, professional teams are scouting
student athletes well into their high school days. In a lot of cases, these athletes need to spend
anywhere from one to three years in college before they can be drafted. This has caused many to
wonder what kind of an education colleges are really providing these student athletes. In many cases,
students are given special classes with less work, so that they can pass. There needs to be steps to fix
the problem. But first, we must see why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

entire institution, including donations, applications, regional economic returns, school spirit, and even

spending, especially during an economic downturn. Possible benefits aside, comparisons of spending

many institutions, spending on athletics is sacrosanct, even when academic spending (such as for

institutions faced financial pressure and cut academic programs, only a few Division I institutions

Conflict And Social Behavior Perspective
Introduction This paper will show how conflict and social behavior perspective play an important role
in Dasani s life (Hutchinson, 2015). The reader will have a better understanding of the perspective
through examples in Dasani s life. This paper will conclude with a reflection of the writer s future
profession in the social work field.
Conflict Perspective Defined Conflict perspective is seen through the lens of someone who has power
and seeks to oppress people with less power, sometime through discrimination or control (Hutchinson,
2015). Individuals who are not in the social work field would automatically assume that the conflict
involves a dispute between two individuals. An issue with conflict perspective is that it has the ...

Within this perspective, there are three theories that describe different ways in which learning occurs;
classical conditioning theory, operant conditioning theory, and cognitive social learning theory
(Hutchinson, 2015). Classical conditioning is often associated with physiologist Ivan Pavlov s
experiment with the salivating dog (Hutchinson, 2015). This experiment focused on conditioning the
dog to associate food with the bell while salivating, and eventually salivates when the bell is rung
even without the presence of food. Operant conditioning theory is changed behavior as the result of a
reinforcement (Hutchinson, 2015). In our society, we associate positive reinforcements with
compliments, smiles, high fives in order to encourage a behavior more. Negative reinforcement
involves jail, detention, and grounding, and this is to stop a behavior from continuing. A cognitive
social learning theory states that behavior can be learned through observations, beliefs, expectations,
and imitation of others (Hutchinson, 2015). A major difference between cognitive social learning
theory and the others, is a lack of manipulation to encourage the individual to follow through with a
behavior. Rather, cognitive social learning theories suggest that a change in thinking can ultimately
result in a change in behavior (Hutchinson, 2015).
Dasani s conflict Perspective A reoccurring conflict throughout this case assessment is the mayor s

Why Rome Fell Essay
I like clothes. 3 things that could go wrong with picking out outfits is colors, length/ size, or patterns.
Picking colors that match look better or if you were going to a party or celebration, wearing a dress
with 1 color is the best decision to go with. Lengths also matter, never wear anything to short or to
long for your comfort. Or if the piece of clothing is too tight or too loose. Patterns are the most
important when picking outfits, a lot like color the pattern(s) should match or at least compliment each
other. Just like an outfit can look ugly or messy, so can an empire.

Evidence that supports this reason is that there were 5 different invaders, 3 from asia and the other 2
were in already in Europe. One of the 3 invaders from asia, were the Huns. The Huns were described
as ugly, ignorant, savage, wild animals, slaughter s and refuges. This contributed to why Rome fell
because that 5 different foreign invaders attacked Rome from all angles.
While the first 2 reasons were important, the primary reason for the fall of Rome was because of
natural disasters. In Rome of 366 C.E. an earthquake hit Rome and killed 250,000 1 million citizens
and not only that, the earthquake also caused a flood that killed 50,000 more people. A total of
300,000 1,050,000 citizens/Romans killed by 1 earthquake.Therefore, this is the most important
reason for the fall of Rome.
It is true that there are other great reasons why Rome fell. For example, legal injustice which is a
quality relating to unfairness or undeserved outcomes. reference to a particular event or situation, or to
a larger status quo. In Western philosophy and jurisprudence, injustice is very commonly but not
always defined as either the absence or the opposite of justice. However, the three reasons represented
above political assassinations, foreign invaders, and especially natural disasters provide the best
explanation for why Rome finally crumbled in the 5th century

Summary Of Suburban Poverty In America
According to Elizabeth Kneebone, author of Confronting Suburban Poverty in America , the growth of
suburban poverty is partly due to the dark economic situations that forced people beneath the line and
by migration. She added that most low wage jobs in America are in the suburbs, and that people
mistakenly believe that more services are offered in the suburbs than in the cities. Looking at the fast
growing poor population in the suburbs, this phenomenon has become a community situation where
anyone is susceptible of. Furthermore, it indicates that there needs to be a synergistic, universal
change to better the situation (the government and organizations should change as well). Even if I had

The film informs that in the mid 1900 s, America was able to reduce poverty by half with private
organizations and charity, various government programs, and effort. Governmental aid such as food
stamps, James was able to finally start again and get employed. And it is absolutely the government s
responsibility in doing so, because it exists and functions to promote the general welfare of the
country, which includes the poor. The American Dream suggests that every citizen of the United States
should be granted equal opportunity in bringing about achievements and affluence through
intelligence, hard work, and perseverance. However, I ve seen many people who work extremely hard
and yet are having trouble going above the poverty line. I almost think that the idea of an American
Dream is perhaps an ideal, not something that is achievable anymore. Each story unites as they
suggest that hope is crucially needed and wanted by the people under the line, whether it comes from
government aid, communities, or ministers. And with the sources of encouragement, people should be

The Ivory-Billed Woodpecker Case Study
The case of The Ivory billed Woodpecker is one of disappearance. Research of this suspected extinct
species has been going on for years. With human renovation, the homes of these birds were destroyed,
thus leading to this suspicion. Although there has been some confusion with the variable of the
Pileated Woodpecker, there are some details that contradict that possibility. Furthermore, there is
glaring evidence in the vocalizations areas, where the noises can only be identified as the rare Ivory

Mobile Phone Is a Learning Tool

communication device that can connect people with others in any places. Students nowadays rely on
mobile phones as their communication devices with friends and parents. Some of them think mobile

phones are a necessary tool for education but also they are not necessary tool for education. Firstly, it
will explain why mobile phones are a necessary tool for education. Then it will explain why they are
not. First of all, Mobile phones are a learning tool. Beside teachers who are teaching students in

heart, internal and reproductive organs. Also, radiation from mobile phones can damage brain cell.
(http://hubpages.com/hub/Effects of cell phone mobile phone use on our brain and memory). For

brain and memory, Say that In brain, hippocampus is understood to be responsible for learning and
memory. That means, when the brain has affected by radiation from mobile phones, our learning ways
will be also affected because of hippocampus. So the mobile phones are not necessary tool for
learning. In conclusion, it is clear that mobile phones are not necessary tool for education beside that
they can be used as learning, researching, and communicating devices. They can produce many
problems that make learners distract from education, feel sick and experience cheating. So it is our

American Dream Short Story
Everyone has their own interpretation of the American Dream but no one can truly defend it unless
they have experienced, Base on the three short stories America and I by Anzia Yezierska, Among the

Dream it could mean anything, the general definition is an imagery or a dream for U.S citizen should
have an equal right or opportunities to achieve great success and prosperity. It just doesn t exist for
everyone because there are still homeless people on the street or people who are working very hard get
very little pay so it s just a shadow.
One reason why the american dream doesn t really exist because people who work hard all the time
and still doesn t get paid or don t pay enough. According to Yezierska 55 My first Job was as a servant
in an Americanized family. Once, long ago, they came from the same village from where I came..
What were to be my wages? . In other words Anzia Yezierska worked as a servant to a russian family
as she described an Americanized Family meaning they have forgot where they came from and change
their identities to be american . Another thing that the story states is They looked at me with a sudden
coldness. What have I said to draw away from me their warmth? Was it so low from me to talk of
wages? I shrank back into myself like a low down bargainer . In other words she felt like she was

Theme Of Ode On A Grecian Urn By John Keats
Life s mysteries are best stated in writing. Some mysteries are revealed, while others remain unknown
forever. John Keats, one of England s greatest poets, published several poems, including one of his
most famous ones in 1819, Ode on A Grecian Urn (Keats 247). Keats was a renowned poet during the
British Romantic period. Romantic literature focused on beauty and emotions. So, what is the
significance of the scenes depicted on the mysterious urn? Is the urn simply a masterpiece of art with
emphasis only on physical beauty? In the poem, Ode on A Grecian Urn , John Keats creates
mysterious scenes on a Greek urn to contrast between everlasting art and human life. Keats contrasts
both worlds through the urn s elaborate description, the theme of personal relationships, and the
ultimate message of beauty, with significant relevance to modern times.
The poems ambiguities begin with the speaker describing the urn. However, these ambiguities are not
just intended by Keats to remain enigmatic, they are there to be connected like a puzzle, piece by
piece. As the speaker, who is a mystery himself, describes the urn, it is evident that he is bewildered
with a spark of curiosity, attempting to grasp the meaning of the scenes (Mishra 51). The speaker first
states what he sees from a distance. He describes the distinct advantages of the urn as an object, Thou
still unravished bride of quietness...foster child of silence and slow time (Keats 247). He defines the
world of art as

The Effect of High Light Wavelengths on Pollen Tube Growth on Impatiens walleriana
Introduction
Flower reproduction is highly influenced by various environmental factors including external
temperature, moisture, and light. Each needs to be at a desired level for the flower to contain mature,
viable pollen. Pollen grains, being one of the most important factors of the flower s ability to
reproduce, need all these factors as well to become viable.
Solar radiation has become an expanding factor over the years caused by increased weather climates
and in turn causes reductions of the ozone layer in the atmosphere [6]. Most researchers have been
correlating this growing trend with agricultural vegetation success, damaging their vital tissues for ...

Made with all data obtained with each treatment using R program. Red light seemed to have a higher
mean length but the standard error of flashlight could have made an impact on their mean length
values, which could easily overcome red light. There is a statistically significant difference between
red and blue light. (n=30; un paired t test: P=7.79E 08). (Outliers red 583um, 549um).
It can be concluded that the flower treated with red light wavelength of 620 to 750 nm had similar
mean lengths of pollen tube elongation as the positive influence of flashlight treated flower with a
production of all wavelengths. Contrastingly the blue wavelength of 450 to 495 nm had a smaller
mean tube length compared to both flashlight and red light while still being longer than the negative
influence of sunlight.
Analysis:
In order to determine the correlation of the pollen tube length means collected from all four groups of
data, a one way ANOVA test was performed. The results only showed a significant difference towards
red and blue treated pollen with a p value of P=7.79E 08 (one way ANOVA). Based on this data, the
red illuminated flower produced longer pollen tubes, and since the means can be considered unequal
from one way ANOVA and there is a significant difference between red and blue tube lengths, our
hypothesis is supported that a higher wavelength of light is beneficial for flower reproduction
enhancing pollen tube

The separate but equal doctrine is one of the outstanding myths of American history for it is almost
always true that while indeed separate, these facilities are far from equal. Throughout the segregated
public institutions, Negroes have been denied equal share of tax supported service and facilities stated
President Truman s Committee on Civil Rights in 1947. In Topeka, Kansas the Brown s, a Negro
family, lived only four blacks from the white Sumner Elementary School. Linda Carol Brown, an
eight year old girl had to attend a segregated school twenty one blocks from her home because Kansas
s state segregation laws allowed cities to segregate Negro and white students in public elementary
schools. Oliver Brown and twelve other parents of Negro children asked that their children be
admitted to the all white Sumner School, which was much closer to home. The principle refused them
admission, and the parents filed a suit in a federal district court against the Topeka Board of
Education. The suit contended that the refusal to admit the children to the school was a denial of the

How Does Mayella Ewell Gain Power In To Kill A Mockingbird
Power can be obtained in many ways, however, there are three main ways to gain power. One could
gain power through their social class, race or gender. Many people throughout history have gained
power in one of these three ways. In Harper Lee s novel To Kill A Mockingbird, power is a common
theme. In this book, Mayella Ewell, a poor, 19 year old white girl, accuses a black man named Tom
Robinson of raping her. Mayella Ewell may not have power in regards to her social class or gender,
she does have power in regards to her race. Mayella is not powerful when it comes to her social class.
Her father, Bob Ewell, has ruined the family s reputation by being known as the town drunk and living
in a dump that was previously a negro cabin. In the novel it states, Maycomb s Ewells lived behind the
town garbage dump in what was once a negro cabin (Lee Document A). The Ewells live in a dump
that used to be owned by negros which is considered the lowest of lows, due to their social class. In

Natives and Self-government Essay
Natives and Self government
From the moment of organized European appearances in North America, negotiation has been a
central characteristic of relationships between aboriginal residents and newcomers. It is a
characteristic that has been evident in treaty making throughout Canada for more than three hundred
years and it continues to be the order of the day in modern treaties, claims and agreements being
negotiated with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis across in Canada. 1
One of the central issues in the negotiations over the past three decades has been the question of
aboriginal self government, which has taken second place only to comprehensive land claims
negotiations in areas where no treaties have been signed to date.
VIEWS OF ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among academics, political leaders, and government representatives differences of opinion and
concern abound: differences about the most beneficial structure of self government, about who
controls what, about when self government should be implemented, about whether or not a true form
self government can ever be achieved.
Those who are critical of current forms of aboriginal self government view them as little more than
convenient arrangements that allow aboriginal people administrative responsibility for services which
are ultimately controlled by the federal or provincial government.3 They argue that self government is
essentially glorified municipal government; arrangements which are far from the ideal of a third level
of government equal in legislative and financial authority to the federal and provincial governments.4
Self government proposals also have their critics among the very people for whom it is intended. For
example, Inuit women have objected to many parts of the Nunavut agreement mainly because of
concerns about an emphasis on conventional southern Canadian notions of resource management.
They also had concerns and about an emphasis on the economic, social and political roles and issues
for men at the expense of those of women in Nunavut (Inuit Women‰s Association, 1993). In

play is because it teaches kids valuable lessons like teaching them to work together and be
collaborative. For example, the article states, Competitive sports improve athletic skill and teach
players how to work with teammates and win, which can be helpful lessons. (Negatives about
competitive sports, T. Marcie Huggins, paragraph 2) This shows that playing competitive sports can

Health is very important to kids and staying in shape. For example, this articles says, These kids know
that the fittest among them play harder and perform better. (Should children play competitive sports,
Lisa Bigelow, paragraph 3.) This shows that allowing kids to play competitive sports can get them in
shape. Kids health is important at such a young age. For example, this article states, 2.1 billion people
nearly 30% of the world s population are either obese or overweight (Nearly ⅓ of the world
population is obese or overweight, paragraph 1) This is another why kids should play sports, they can
get overweight, and if they wanted to get fit, they would have to work even harder. According to the
same article, In the last three decades, not one country has achieved success in reducing obesity rates,
and we expect obesity to rise steadily (Nearly ⅓ of the world population is obese or overweight,

Human Culture Revealed In Daniel Quinn s Ishmael
Man lives life as though they are the ones to rule the Earth, instead of living as one with nature. Daniel
Quinn s Ishmael shows how man came to be this way, and why people should take a look at the past to
learn about the way people should live now. By comparing and contrasting controlling culture and the
thirst for knowledge between Ishmael and Planet of the Apes, it becomes clear that man believes
knowledge and power are the most important aspects of life.
One main argument Ishmael makes is that human culture is not based on humans as living beings of
Earth; it is based on them trying to be gods. The narrator says the reason for creation of man went
something like this, The world is for man... For nearly three million years he lived as ... Show more

It sets them apart from all other creatures of the world; which is how the apes in Planet of the Apes
feel about knowledge over humans. The anthropomorphic race would never think that another species
could control them. After all, they expect exemption from the laws of nature. In the movie, the main
protagonist was originally from Earth, and explained their thirst for knowledge, You d walk naked into
a live volcano if you thought you could learn something no other man knew. (Schaffner). Planet of the
Apes is not so subtly saying the undying thirst for power in the form of knowledge puts humans above
all else, including gods. In the tale of Adam and Eve, Ishmael explains to his student how foolish the
want for knowledge can make a man, Wielding the knowledge of good and evil, we have made
ourselves the masters of the world, and the gods have no power over us... isn t it sweeter to live in our
own hands than in the hands of the gods? (Quinn, 164). Both texts agree that knowing things other
races do not know makes them the more intelligent, and in turn, the dominant species. In the movie,
the main characters, Taylor and Landon, automatically assume that they would run the planet in a
short amount of time due to their seemingly high intellect. However, when they meet the apes, they
get caught, imprisoned, and treated like animals. Since they were always taught humans are superior,

Global Climate Change Is The Future Of The Entire Generation
Global climate change transcends the future of the entire generation. Yunjing Wang mentions that the
world is expecting warming that could be dangerous throughout the century (Wang et al., 2015). Not
only effecting species of animals but also determining the presence of human existence. New diseases
prevail on a daily basis specifically vector borne. These vector borne illnesses adapt to climate change
due to temperature fluctuations, constant precipitation, and population adjustments. Although diseases
such as Malaria and Zika are being researched on a daily basis, preventative measures for diseases
caused by climate change are being acted upon by many organizations. If a steady climate can arise in
the near future, virulence of many climate related diseases will eventually decline. The dynamics of
climate influence virulence due to unstable temperatures. The effects on the quality of life creates
vulnerability to those that surround these virulent environments. It is referenced that extreme
outbreaks occur after major disturbances to the population (McMichael, 2015). These climatic events
tend to trigger microbes, pathogens, and hosts to start infecting the nearest populous whether it be
animal or human. As McMichael mentions, microbes have the capacity that is stronger willed than any
biotechnological application and can reproduce a stable metabolism and maintain a relationship in the
most severe disturbance (2015). McMichael, also states that human driven climate

Significance of Hajj to the Life Muslim Adherents
Analyse the significance of Hajj to the life Muslim adherents (15 marks)
The Hajj is one of the 5 pillars of Islam and ultimately reflects many core Muslim beliefs. Through
spiritual rebirth, the wearing of the Ihram garments, the acknowledgement of Allah s omnipotency and
the experience of following in Prophet Muhammad s footsteps, adherents through the Hajj are able to
reflect the Islamic beliefs of Jihad, Umma, Zakat, and forgiveness in their own lives. By this Muslims
are able to become more intimate with Allah and his will, and are also destined to an afterlife in
heaven by his side. Accordingly, those who do not complete the Hajj in their lifetime will be sentenced
to an afterlife in purgatory. These consequences reflect how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These are very significant principles within Islam. Secondly, the use of the Ihram garments during the
Hajj also reflects core Islamic beliefs, particularly Umma. The white garments are worn by everyone
during the Hajj, resulting in it being impossible to differentiate a wealthy man from a poorer one, or a
sinful man from a cleaner one. This equality is synonymous with the idea of Umma, the unity of the
Islamic community as one religious body with similar views. Through the Hajj adherents learn to live
together and co operate in the name of Allah by also giving up certain mutual activities such as sex.
This unification and sacrifice further allows the adherent to become closer with Allah and also reflects
the Muslim way to live with one another especially during times like Ramadan, where certain actions
are haram. Furthermore, the following of Muhammad s steps as an integral part of the Hajj acts as a
guide for adherents to base their future lives upon. The Hajj traces around the Saudi Arabia region,
highlighting key components of the Prophet s life. This life is one that evidently reflects all core
Islamic values and teachings, and serves as the materialism of Allah s will on Earth. Prayer, such as
rak ah, Zakat, seen in the shaving of the head, and Jihad, present in the physical struggle required, are
all key values reflected in Muhammad s life, while Umma, given through the unity of the

Catherine the Great of Russia
I shall be an autocrat: that s my trade. And the good lord will forgive me: that s his ( Catherine II:
quote on leadership ). In history there have been many good examples of good and powerful leaders. A
person who exemplifies good leadership; protects one s nation, is a strong speaker and communicator,
is confident, and can organize a well developed government system. Catherine the second, was a
Russian ruler. She was ultimately one of the most powerfulest rulers. Many believe that Catherine
ruled during a period, in which was considered by many, a golden age for Russia. A golden age is
when a civilization has reached a period of peace, unity, prosperity, and achievements. In the year
1762, Catherine was crowned Empress of Russia. Catherine s motive of ruling Russia, was to make it
a powerful union by spreading and expanding education, and making a national culture. Despite many
failures such as not improving the lives of serfs, who were the majority of the Russian population and
it has been said by many that she ruled through dishonesty and scandal, Catherine the Great was
ultimately a successful leader of Russia. Due to the wonderful accomplishments she made and all of
the admiration she received from the people, therefore earned the powerful title of Catherine the Great
( Prominent Russians: Catherine II the Great ). Although she never accepted the title of Catherine the
Great, she

the defendant (Skinner) was convicted twice for armed robbery and once for the crime of stealing
chickens and was sentenced to compulsory sterilization as per the provisions of Oklahoma s Habitual
Criminal Sterilization Act of 1935. The act permitted sentences of compulsory sterilization for
habitual offenders in crimes involving moral turpitude (Showalter, 2012, p. 492). The Attorney

The Amendment also has the Equal Protection Clause that prohibits states from denying any person
within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. The laws of the state must treat an individual in
the same manner as others in similar conditions and circumstances (www.law.cornell.edu). The
question of whether the equal protection clause has been violated arises when a state grants a
particular class of individuals the right to engage in an activity but denies other individuals the same
right. Discrimination According to Showalter (2012), The guaranty of equal protection of the laws is a
pledge of the protection of equal laws . When the law lays an unequal hand on those who have
committed intrinsically the same quality of offense and sterilizes one and not the other, it has made as
invidious a discrimination as if it had selected a particular race or nationality for oppressive treatment.
It is also an unmistakable discrimination to sterilize those who committed larceny but provides

My Experience At The Art Department
Everyone has a passion in life mine is art. Not going to galleries and looking at paintings by artists
from the 1800s but using paint and pencils to show me and my life. The saying A picture shows a
thousand words which is very true but in my case a painting shows a thousand emotions.
I ve never hated school but I ve always loved being in the art department. All the different
possibilities, the different sizes of paper. It is somewhere that I feel as if I am me and nothing will ever
change that. Picking up a paintbrush and letting my imagination run wild has always been so much
easier than showing anyone my emotions. From red to blue, black to yellow, there is a colour to
represent how I am feeling. The colour wheel never lets me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It gives me a chance to make something which is mine, it may never become a colour used by millions
each day but it has a purpose to me and my work, it is something that I can add to my work that relates
to me and my emotions. In art there are seven visual elements texture, tone, line, shape, form, pattern
and colour and in second year when I was first introduced to these, they never really made sense. Now
it all makes complete sense, as when I m drawing I enter another world and I use these elements all
the time. The different patterns in a piece, the dark and light tones it just makes my work mine. I can
tell how I felt that day from how dark piece is, the simple dark shading can convey tonnes of different
emotions. Art is a part of my life that I use and think about everyday. It is something which I can just
escape into, leaving the world behind me.
Art is a way where I can be right no matter what anyone else thinks. Throughout school I have fell out
with my friends, argued, and had some difficult times. Rather than shouting and screaming about my
problematic life, I picked a paint brush up. Two years ago I fallen out with most of my friends I then
had became too scared to come to school and face people. I had transformed into a hedgehog in
hibernation. When I found the courage to come to school, it had turned into me hiding in the art
department every break and lunch. Hiding away from people with my

Abortion Is Illegal In The United States
Abortion is the termination of pregnancy before the embryo or fetus is able to live outside the uterus.
In complete abortion, the tissues surrounding the embryo or fetus are also expelled. For most of the
20th century, abortion was illegal in the United States. In the 1960 s, some states began to allow
abortions to be performed under various circumstances. In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court held in Roe
v. Wade that the right of privacy covered a woman s right to end an unwanted pregnancy in its first
trimester. Jane Roe, a 21 year old pregnant woman, represented all women who wanted abortions but
could not get them legally and safely. Henry Wade was the Texas Attorney General who defended the
law that made abortions illegal. The states govern

What Are The Achievements Of African Kingdoms Before...
African Kingdoms Before Europeans The achievements of the African kingdoms and cities were
better before the arrival of the Europeans. The Niger River created a place where all the kingdoms
could trade, since the kingdoms were all around it and made a way to transport goods. The salt and
gold trade was a way so one place that had to much gold and had very little of salt would get the salt
they need and the opposite for the other city state. Mansa Musa was so generous that he made the gold
worth go down by giving out so much gold. The western African kingdoms had achievements like the
salt and gold trade, the Niger River to help them trade along with, and Mansa Musa that gave out gold
and helped Mali become twice the size it was. The salt and

China s Rise And The Us Japan s Respond
China s Rise and the US Japan s Respond
China s rising has become predominant issue after more than two decade since it opened it economy
for the world capital. China has become center of economic growth in the region since it started to
become economically integrated to globalized world. Concurrently with that development, China
military capability grows to become more powerful. In 2013 SIPRI reported that China s military
spending had reached $188 million, which means steadily increase of 7.4 per cent from 2012, and
doubled from expense in 2004 (Deutsche Presse

The end of the Cold War that created peaceful space and flourishing Chinese economic growth
influenced the speed of military modernization and shifted its focus on protection of maritime
resources and defending of territorial issue in the south and southeast (Ross 2009: 55; Storey 2008:
115).
Meanwhile in southern part of its territory several maritime dispute disputes began to attract China s
attention. During early decade of 1990s, China had just ratified United Nations Convention on the
Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS 1982) in 1992. The ratification is going to allow China to claim 200
nautical miles as its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and could exploit oil and gas located in South
China Sea basin. Beside that, the growing tension because of Taiwan s independence in 1990 had
significantly altered China focus to the South and modernization its military force. Geopolitical nature
of the potential maritime conflict in the south had forced China to modernize its naval power (Storey
2008: 115).
This could be considered as changing posture of China s military capability from cumbersome
continental power towards more modern and dynamic naval power in responding future political and
military dispute in the southern part of its territory (Ross 2009: 56). China s military modernization
that aims to built capability to project its power

Controversial Topics- Beauty Pageants
Beauty Pageants: From Prim to Poisoned Her eyes glimmer with the latest layer of eyeliner. Her

William Pinsof, a clinical psychologist and president of the Family Institute at Northwestern
University says, Being a little Barbie doll says your body has to be a certain way and your hair has to
be a certain way. In girls particularly, this can unleash a whole complex of destructive self experiences
that can lead to eating disorders and all kinds of body distortions in terms of body image (Children).
Currently, 15% of young women in America have some type of eating disorder (Eating). Some grow
up with the idea that the thinner they are, the more attractive they are. This can lead to unfortunate
interpretations of their body. In order to fulfill their perception of the ideal figure, they dangerously
push boundaries; 50% of girls 8 to 10 years old say they are unhappy with their size, 40% of fourth
graders admit to previously being on a diet, and more than 50% of girls 9 to 15 years old have
exercised to lose weight (Pulling). Only to reward their behavior, the judges of the pageants asses the
contestant s physical appearance based on these superficial themes. The past winners are no role
models either. The majority of Miss America winners have been undernourished on the BMI scale, or

  • 2. James Meredith Impact On Civil Life When James Meredith recalled the events that happened on Sept. 20, 1962, all he said was I considered myself engaged in a war from day one (James Meredith Quotes). But what does this mean? In 1962, there was lots of segregation occurring, and that includes the town of Oxford, Mississippi. The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) was segregated at the time, and there were a lot of problems when they found out that 29 year old James Meredith wanted to enroll, especially because he had colored skin. He knew that there was going to be some people who would disagree with the idea, but he didn t realize how far they would take it. James Meredith was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on June 25, 1933. He is the son of Moses and Roxie Meredith, and was raised on a farm with 9 siblings. When he was old enough, served in the United States Air Force for 9 years. After he served, he enrolled in Jackson State College, which was for colored skin only. He studied there until 1961, and eventually sent his application to go to the University of Mississippi. Yemen can be broken down into six regions the Tihama, highlands in the west, central mountains, high plateau in the east, limestone tableland, and the Gulf of Aden coastal plain. The Tihama is an area on the along the Red Sea, which provides commerce and trade on the ports of al Mukha and al Hudayda. Fishing and agriculture are very popular in this area. The highlands in the west get rain round the year to provide water for the agriculture. The central mountain region where the capital of Sanaa lies has urban area but also areas of plateaus and basins. The plateau region in the east eventually connects with the Rub al Khal desert with somewhat primitive living styles. Plateaus and wadis along with seaports such as al Mulkalla and al Shahr make up the limestone tableland. Finally, the five to ten mile wide stretch that starts from Aden all the way to al Ghayda is the Gulf of Aden coastal plain region (Advameg, 1985). His plans were more geared towards those groups he could glean something from, his supporters, people he respected or people who might respect him, and the flat out admiration he pined for. King Herod stayed true to the original dimension of the biblical temple. However, from there all shackles of conformity were unlocked. Herod would expand and raise the temple platform, thus creating an unparalleled and truly monumental temple precinct containing the sanctuary, courts, gates, a fortress (Antonia), approaches, porticoes, and subsidiary buildings. In keeping up King Herod s ego, the only thing that Herod really out did King Solomon in the way of building craft. Was the Herod out blinged King Solomon in the gold over laying inside of the temple? Not even the calamities of destructions to the religious temples could thwart the desire for a permanent place to worship for the followers of Judaism and even that of Christianity. This too broad, and rather imprecise, definition entails a degree of reflexivity with which a text is enabled to refer to or to talk about itself or its parts. The concept of metadiscourse may have borrowed its reflexivity property to language in general, which can also function reflexively comment on the language or verbal system itself. In this reflexive form of language, called metalanguage , the metalinguistic function of language, which is also central to the metadiscourse model used in this study, is most evident. These functions are apparent in a definition of metadiscourse by Williams (1989: 27 28), a researcher into metadiscourse who works under this approach: the language that we use when we describe what we are doing as we think and write about the content of our primary ideas, or what we want our readers to be doing as they read. It is writing about reading and writing. Crismore et al (1993: 39) put more consideration towards the improved readability of text as the main function of metadiscourse: for how readers should read, react to, and evaluate what they have written about the subject matter . Among researchers into metadiscourse who work under the broad approach is Vande Kopple (1985, 1988), whose classification of metadiscourse into seven kinds has been used and developed in research by other researchers as well. A brief summary of his taxonomy, adapted from Adel s summary with her examples (2006: 168 170) will be presented here. Despite having no real affect on your athletic ability hundreds of thousands of athletes purchased and wore these bracelets in the hopes their abilities would be heightened. . • 13. Reservation Blues Essay Reservation Blues by Sherman Alexie continually forces you to think about the concept of Americanization, more specifically of the Native Americans. Sherman Alexie used forms of racial loathing in presenting how Native Americans handle the Americanization process. In Reservation Blues, a group of Native Americans formed a band called Coyote Springs and struggle to integrate themselves into mainstream American society. Their talents are overshadowed by their inability to be accepted as Indians. While none of the band members exhibit any outright hatred for their race, Victor and Junior do illustrate resentment for traditional Indian customs. Their attitude concerning their identity does border self hate. Whereas the other band members, Chess and Thomas embrace the tradition of storytelling, Victor and Junior despise it. Storytelling was a rich tradition among all Native Americans. This is how stories were passed down from generation to generation, through oral tradition. • 14. Individuality And Uniqueness In Emerson s Self Reliance By... 1. In the essay Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of originality and uniqueness to depict the idea that these are the qualities that make people great. Emerson stated that We but half express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represent in order to argue that each person has a uniqueness because their environments is unique (Emerson 2). The quote infers that every person in society has an ability to possess a unique idea. Every person has a unique idea, which means that every person can become a free thinker. Those who do not act on their thoughts and ideas due to societal rules lose the chance to become unique. Emerson believed that Society is a wave. The wave moves onward, but the water of which it is composed does not , meaning something sparks society to do something, everyone starts doing it but why they do it is lost over time (Emerson 20). The wave of society represents the masses and the water that makes up the wave are the individuals in society. Every person has an ability to possess a divine thought but cannot ferment it because of societal restraints (the wave). Due to the influence of society, one lacks the strength to act on their original thought and follows the crowd. Martin Luther acted on his original thought but thousands of people adopted his thoughts, even though the reasons for his regional thought are no longer present. Instead of creating and following their own ideas, they adopted Luther s instead. In society, many people follow and imitate well established beliefs, thus leading to the lack of divine thought. In the reading, Emerson came to a conclusion that all people have divine thoughts but cannot act on them because of societal influences. 2. In the reading titled Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of truth and honesty. According to Emerson, one who went Upright and vital, and speak the rude truth is unique (Emerson 4). Emerson followed this quote stating that one shall Speak what you think now in hard words, and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks...though it contradicts everything (Emerson 7). Machiavelli’S The Prince Was Written During The Early Years Machiavelli s The Prince was written during the early years of the sixteenth century and was one of the most profound and controversial pieces of literature to emerge from the Renaissance. The political treatise was written for Lorenzo de Medici in hopes that he would use the principles taught in it to rule in Italy. Machiavelli planned for the piece of literature to impress Medici and hopefully persuade him to give Machiavelli a position within the Italian government, a position that he longed to go back to. The Medici family ultimately never implemented any of Machiavelli s recommendations, but one could find examples of famous rulers from the past that exemplify Machiavelli s ideal ruler. The Prince is a timeless piece of literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the very least, one could say that the books influence spread much farther than the author intended or even expected to. According to Machiavelli, there are four main ways that a prince is able to come to power. The first way to achieve power is through prowess (personal skill and ability). The second way is through fortune, which means good luck. The third way is through corruption; examples would be to attain power through a rebellion, plot, or assassination. The fourth and last way is constitutional, meaning to attain power by support from either the nobles or commoners. The most important comparison to be made between these four ways is between prowess and fortune. Attaining a state through prowess is clearly going to be more difficult than profiting from sheer good fortune, however; a prince that is blessed with prowess is more likely to hold a strong foundation on his rule, whereas a man with fortune is erratic and unpredictable which potentially leads to a prince s overthrow just as it had to his rise. That being said, preserving a prince s power is far easier when said prince attained power through his own cleverness. Being that the preservation of power is essential to Machiavelli, he determines that prowess is the better of the two routes for becoming a prince. Another similarity can be made amongst the criminal and constitutional methods of attaining control. The main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within this perspective, there are three theories that describe different ways in which learning occurs; classical conditioning theory, operant conditioning theory, and cognitive social learning theory (Hutchinson, 2015). Classical conditioning is often associated with physiologist Ivan Pavlov s experiment with the salivating dog (Hutchinson, 2015). This experiment focused on conditioning the dog to associate food with the bell while salivating, and eventually salivates when the bell is rung even without the presence of food. Operant conditioning theory is changed behavior as the result of a reinforcement (Hutchinson, 2015). In our society, we associate positive reinforcements with compliments, smiles, high fives in order to encourage a behavior more. Negative reinforcement involves jail, detention, and grounding, and this is to stop a behavior from continuing. A cognitive social learning theory states that behavior can be learned through observations, beliefs, expectations, and imitation of others (Hutchinson, 2015). A major difference between cognitive social learning theory and the others, is a lack of manipulation to encourage the individual to follow through with a behavior. Rather, cognitive social learning theories suggest that a change in thinking can ultimately result in a change in behavior (Hutchinson, 2015). This contributed to why Rome fell because that 5 different foreign invaders attacked Rome from all angles. While the first 2 reasons were important, the primary reason for the fall of Rome was because of natural disasters. Linda Carol Brown, an eight year old girl had to attend a segregated school twenty one blocks from her home because Kansas s state segregation laws allowed cities to segregate Negro and white students in public elementary schools. Oliver Brown and twelve other parents of Negro children asked that their children be admitted to the all white Sumner School, which was much closer to home. The principle refused them admission, and the parents filed a suit in a federal district court against the Topeka Board of Education. The suit contended that the refusal to admit the children to the school was a denial of the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The descion of the principle lead to the birth of the most influential and important case of the Twentieth Century, Brown v. Board of Education, 347 U.S. 483 (1954). The federal district court was sympathetic to the Negro cause and agreed that segregation in public schools had a negative effect on Negro children, but the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One could gain power through their social class, race or gender. Many people throughout history have gained power in one of these three ways. In Harper Lee s novel To Kill A Mockingbird, power is a common theme. In this book, Mayella Ewell, a poor, 19 year old white girl, accuses a black man named Tom Robinson of raping her. Mayella Ewell may not have power in regards to her social class or gender, she does have power in regards to her race. Mayella is not powerful when it comes to her social class. Natives and Self-government Essay Natives and Self government From the moment of organized European appearances in North America, negotiation has been a central characteristic of relationships between aboriginal residents and newcomers. It is a characteristic that has been evident in treaty making throughout Canada for more than three hundred years and it continues to be the order of the day in modern treaties, claims and agreements being negotiated with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis across in Canada. 1 One of the central issues in the negotiations over the past three decades has been the question of aboriginal self government, which has taken second place only to comprehensive land claims negotiations in areas where no treaties have been signed to date. Among academics, political leaders, and government representatives differences of opinion and concern abound: differences about the most beneficial structure of self government, about who controls what, about when self government should be implemented, about whether or not a true form self government can ever be achieved. Those who are critical of current forms of aboriginal self government view them as little more than convenient arrangements that allow aboriginal people administrative responsibility for services which are ultimately controlled by the federal or provincial government.3 They argue that self government is essentially glorified municipal government; arrangements which are far from the ideal of a third level of government equal in legislative and financial authority to the federal and provincial governments.4 Self government proposals also have their critics among the very people for whom it is intended. For example, Inuit women have objected to many parts of the Nunavut agreement mainly because of concerns about an emphasis on conventional southern Canadian notions of resource management. They also had concerns and about an emphasis on the economic, social and political roles and issues for men at the expense of those of women in Nunavut (Inuit Women‰s Association, 1993). In ... Daniel Quinn s Ishmael shows how man came to be this way, and why people should take a look at the past to learn about the way people should live now. By comparing and contrasting controlling culture and the thirst for knowledge between Ishmael and Planet of the Apes, it becomes clear that man believes knowledge and power are the most important aspects of life. One main argument Ishmael makes is that human culture is not based on humans as living beings of Earth; it is based on them trying to be gods. Yunjing Wang mentions that the world is expecting warming that could be dangerous throughout the century (Wang et al., 2015). Not only effecting species of animals but also determining the presence of human existence. New diseases prevail on a daily basis specifically vector borne. These vector borne illnesses adapt to climate change due to temperature fluctuations, constant precipitation, and population adjustments. Although diseases such as Malaria and Zika are being researched on a daily basis, preventative measures for diseases caused by climate change are being acted upon by many organizations. If a steady climate can arise in the near future, virulence of many climate related diseases will eventually decline. The dynamics of climate influence virulence due to unstable temperatures. The effects on the quality of life creates vulnerability to those that surround these virulent environments. It is referenced that extreme outbreaks occur after major disturbances to the population (McMichael, 2015). The white garments are worn by everyone during the Hajj, resulting in it being impossible to differentiate a wealthy man from a poorer one, or a sinful man from a cleaner one. This equality is synonymous with the idea of Umma, the unity of the Islamic community as one religious body with similar views. Through the Hajj adherents learn to live together and co operate in the name of Allah by also giving up certain mutual activities such as sex. This unification and sacrifice further allows the adherent to become closer with Allah and also reflects the Muslim way to live with one another especially during times like Ramadan, where certain actions are haram.
