Modern Day Shakespeare
Throughout the evolution of the written word,no other man has made such an impact on the literary
form,William Shakespeare, has created themes that have not only represented the issues and topics
relevant to his time, but has created themes that still apply to modern day, such as: Romeo and Juliet,
with themes of love, youth, and mortality. If imitation is greatest form flattery;modern day media must
really admire the works of Shakespeare. Media has pump out many variations of Shakespeare key
works, using pieces from his plays and poems to give a alright movie or mediocre episode of a show
the right amount dramatic suspense or foreshadowing to become something thought provoking and
meaningful.
Upon this observation there is a key trope that is replicated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Scar. The aftermath that followed leads to Scar death faintly resembles the Caesar s death scene by the
hands of the his close inner circle and mirrors the exact part where scare is surrounded and

of the villain getting their just dessert can be see in blanten view, this can be seen in
Macbeth and Claudius deaths.Tropes that have originated from shakespeare s tragedies are used in
media a foil the main protagonist or to build suspense and pay off for theat the beginning and the end

unnecessary filler or sub plots to from making the story convolute. The death of characters is less
frequent in these movie, solely focusing on the quest or journey of the protagonist. The pluses and
minus of the tropes is that it can be used in interesting scenarios and used more in thriller and
dramas, but with their low recognition rate and suffering from the same problem that Romeo and Juliet

The Asian Development Bank ( Adb ) For The Reconstruction...
After the World War II, the United States led the European countries to establish the World Bank
(IBRD), which helped the reconstruction of Europe. And in the meanwhile, the United States led
Japan, China and some other Asian countries to establish the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the
reconstruction of Asia after the war. IBRD, ADB and IMF (International Monetary Fund), etc. occupy
the monopolistic and predominant status all around the world for several decades. In the other words,
they dedicate the economic and the political tendency all over the world. However, there are many
problems and unreasonable terms for the debit and credit, investment, financing and so on, which are
related to the political reasons, exist in IBRD, ADB and IMF. These restricts influence the
development of those Third World countries severely. Along with some other reasons and details, in
October 2013, China put forward suggestions to establish Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank
(AIIB), a multilateral development organization with 100 billion authorized capital, which supports
the infrastructure development for Asian countries especially, and the headquarter is set up in Beijing,
China. This initiative bring huge competitions among the United States, China and Japan. After
October 2014, the competitions spread and expand, in which some European countries are involved as
well. The establishment of AIIB is not only the economic development and breakthrough, but also

Essay On Lord Of The Rings Hero s Journey
I am glad you are here with me, here at the end of all things, Sam. Frodo reaches out his hand over the
flaming mouth of Mount Doom. The ring slips from his fingers and into the flames. The world returns
to where it was before the evil eye had taken over. The Lord of the Rings chronicles the journey of
Frodo Baggins to destroy the ring. It follows his transformation from a weak young hobbit to a hero
who saves Middle Earth. Frodo is an archetypal hero because he follows the hero s journey. Like all
archetypal heroes, Frodo begins in an ordinary world. He lives in the Shire with family and close
friends. He does not seek adventure, and he is content to sit, smoke a pipe, and tell stories. He receives
his call to adventure when Gandalf shows up and asks him to carry the ring to flames of Mount Doom.
The ring has been causing a disturbance in Middle Earth, and Gandalf believes Frodo can handle the
challenge. Frodo is reluctant to answer the call. He is comfortable and happy, and the journey ... Show

He offers him guidance and advice on many occasions. Gandalf helps to protect Frodo from outside
forces and inside temptations. When Gandalf is around, Frodo feels stronger. He learns how to control
the power of the ring with Gandalf s help. Frodo faces many tests and trials along the way to Mount
Doom. He is kidnapped, attacked, and imprisoned along the way. He narrowly survives many
situations that would break lesser hobbits. In addition to the outward trials, he also faces the constant
temptation to use the ring to gain power for himself and for others. He finds support in the travel
companions that join him along the way to help him in his quest to destroy the ring. These warriors
become his allies. He also meets enemies along the way. He encounters characters that want to use the
ring for their own gain. His greatest enemy is Sauron, the Dark Lord who wants to get the ring so he
can rule all of Middle

Edwin Abbott s Flatland
Flatland Summary The book Flatland, by Edwin Abbott Abbott, is all about A. Square in a two
dimensional world, called Flatland and his journey into the third dimension. The book is written in
first person with the narrator being the square. The first half of the book explained all about Flatland
and how everything worked in a two dimensional world. There were many different elements that had
to be explained before the reader could somewhat grasp the concept of life in only two dimensions.
The first thing explained was the social classes which relied on how many sides one had, with a
isosceles triangle being the lowest class and a circle being the highest class. If an isosceles triangle
does good deeds and lives a good life, he can become an equilateral triangle and move up into a higher
class. I really did not like this part of the book because it seemed really unfair to that a kid could be
born into a bad family and never have a chance at a good life. Of course ... Show more content on

Since all they could see were straight lines at everybody they had to use brightness from what they
called the fog to tell how many sides a shape had. I found this part super cool because they had to train
their eyesight for a long time just to be able to identify others.
The second half of the book had to deal with the square s journey into the third dimension. First, he
had a dream about a one dimensional world, called Lineland, where he had to explain to lines and
points that there is more than their dimension. Of course, they could not comprehend the second
dimension because it is virtually impossible to visualize another dimension than one s own.
Next, the square was visited by what he thought was a circle but in reality was a sphere. The sphere
told him that he had given him the dream of Lineland, and he tried to use the same reasoning he used
with the lines and points to convince him that there was another dimension, the third

What Is The Rebel Belle Character Analysis
The book I chose to read for the fourth quarter is called Rebel Belle . This book was written by Rachel
Hawkins. I was excited to read this book because the cover looked very girly and it seemed like a
book I would be interested to read. This book is about a girl named Harper Jane Price, whose life is
suddenly changed forever, all because she forgot to put on her favorite lip gloss. On the night of the
Homecoming dance, Harper is expecting to win the title of Homecoming Queen, dance the night
away, and leave feeling happier than ever. But this plan didn t exactly work out in her favor. She goes
to the bathroom to freshen up and soon is faced with a dying janitor, a teacher with a scimitar, and an
experience that will change her life forever. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an Oracle, he is highly valuable, and many other people want to take advantage of his powers.
Saylor Stark is David s aunt and she adopted him when he was very young. Saylor is the most
respected woman in Pine Grove because she is the head of almost every important event or group,
such as Cotillion. She is an elegant and classy woman who is also David s Mage, or personal witch.
The story is about a popular, girl named Harper Jane Price, whose life soon changes when she is
trapped in the bathroom with a dying janitor. Harper ran into the ladies restroom to put on her favorite
lip gloss before the homecoming dance, when the door was suddenly closed and locked by the janitor,
Mr. Hall. He was panting and visibly wounded, and as she leaned down to help him, he pulled himself
up to kiss her, dying right after. Dr. DuPont, her history teacher, flew into the restroom with a scimitar,
ready to kill Harper. When he ran at Harper, an unknown super strength kicked in and Harper killed
Dr. DuPont with her stiletto heel. Harper walked back into the bathroom to get her lip gloss a little
while later and she saw that both of their bodies had disappeared like nothing had

Augusta Ada s Life And Accomplishments
Augusta Ada Byron was born in London on December 10, 1815, and was the daughter of a famous
poet ,named Lord Byron. Her parents did not have a very happy marriage and once Ada was born,
they seperated. A few months after she was born, her dad left to England and never saw her again. He
later then died when Ada was 8. I assume that because her parents seperated at a young age and Ada
was too young to get to know her father, his absensce probably didn t affect her as much as it would
have if she were older when this happened. Because her father wasn t around, Ada was brought up by
her mother, who was always insisting on getting Ada tutors in mathemarics and science. Her mother
believed that if Ada distracted herself with her studies, then she ... Show more content on

Causes Of The Black Death
The plague, a mutated bacteria, spread rapidly throughout Europe because of the lack of sanitary
conditions and trade routes At first, people were unaware of the causes of the illness. The plague is
caused by a mutated bacteria called Yersinia pestis. It was named after Alexandre Yersin, a biologist
who discovered it in 1894 ( Black Death ). The lack of cleanliness in the Elizabethan Era contributed
to the rapid spread of the plague. Sanitation lacked immensely in large cities, such as London. There
were open sewers, garbage everywhere, and no running water. Fleas, lice, and rats flourished in the
environment (Alchin, Elizabethan Medicine and Illnesses ). The inhabitants of England did not
suspect that the plague was being carried around by rodents and insects. Although, animals and insects
are not to be the only ones blamed for spreading the plague, the movement of people along trades
routes also contributed. ...evidence available from rural continental Europe suggests a slow spread of
human mortality across trade and travel roots... (Carmichael). The plague, also known as the Black
Death, killed people by the thousands due to its lethal symptoms and its unknown origins. There was
no cure to the plague, and once the illness was contracted, the victim could only await death. The
victims suffered from several symptoms including painful swelling in the armpits, legs, neck, and
groin. Other symptoms included a very high fever, mental disorientation, vomiting, muscular pain,

Personal Narrative Of Pain Is A Funny Thing
Elle McGinnity 4 November 2014
Mrs. Siragusa Period 2AC
Paper #2: Personal Narrative
Pain is a funny thing. Sometimes it strikes suddenly, a lightning strike in a quiet blue sky. It tears
through you and for a few seconds you cannot breathe; cannot think. This was different. This pain was
patient and slow. It crept up on me; starting as just an annoying dull ache in my hip. Gradually
growing confidence, steadily growing until the roar of the pain became so loud, I could not focus on
anything else. But I was stubborn. I told myself I could push through it; that I had to push through it.
Nationals were only two weeks away. I could not afford to lose any time...
I was torn. On one hand, I had hope that maybe if I saw a doctor, they could fix it and ease the pain.
On the other, I was scared. The risk that they would pull me out of dance and not let me compete at
nationals seemed to outweigh the benefits. It was my dance teacher that finally convinced me to see a
doctor.
I remember feeling dazed walking into the hospital; everything was a blur yet seemed to happen in
slow motion. And the smell. It was overwhelming and stale. I was detached, just going through the
motions: walk here, get wristband, sit, stay, wait. The waiting was the worst part. My mind began to
spin. Worrying, and waiting, and contemplating, and waiting and waiting... My fingers began to
restlessly tap, dancing out the rhythm of my steps over and over. I fell into a daze, nothing processing

Imperialism in the Tempest
When one interacts with strangers, feelings of superiority and inferiority are bound to occur. In
Shakespeare s time period, most of the Europeans perspectives were disrespectful, arrogant, and full
of ignorance. Like the Native Americans, for most of the European colonists who landed in the New
World, it was their first exposure to the people of a different race. And yet, their first intuition of the
Native Americans was described as barbarians, savages, and cannibals. The Europeans thought
themselves as superior compared to the poor savages (Takaki 148); likewise in The Tempest,
Shakespeare portrayed Prospero as the rightful leader of Caliban s island, just as the Europeans
thought of themselves as the rightful rulers of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the name of Caliban is a mere metathesis and anagram of cannibals; and the word cannibal is
used by Christopher Columbus in describing Caribs cannibalistic behaviors in 1498. Therefore,
Shakespeare s bias in the play, The Tempest, illustrates Caliban as a savage, a born devil whose nature
nurture can never sticks and as with his body uglier grows so his mind cankers (4.1.188 192). The
European claimed that they had a God given responsibility to inhabit and reform so barbarious a
nation and to educate to uplift the filthy people (Takaki p 145). One of their responsibilities is planting
of religion among those infidels and increase the force of the Christians (Hakluyt p.125) and others
were showed by Shakespeare through actions of Prospero. He attempted to nurture, teach, and civilize
Caliban. Despite Prospero s contributions, Caliban is incapable of learning anything but curses in foul
language and even attempted to rape Prospero s beloved daughter, Miranda. Caliban s savagery is
vividly portrayed in his sexual assault with lack of affections, and his animalistic innate instinct of
reproduction and expanding its own kind. Judging against Ferdinand s conduct in accepting his

Adam Weishaupt Biography Essay
Adam Weishaupt was born on February 6, 1748. After graduating from the University of Ingolstadt in
1768, Weishaupt went on to become a professor of law. Through his work he adopted Kantian
Idealism, which would influence his ideals and lead him to start the Illuminati. At first, Weishaupt
attempted to join the Freemasons, but found that it was too expensive and that his ideas would not fit
into the order, leading him to form his own group. On May 1, 1776, Adam Weishaupt founded the
Bavarian Illuminati, which began with 5 members consisting of Weishaupt and 5 of his students.
Despite being unable to join the Freemasons, Adam used them as a prototype, using some elements

Niall Ferguson writes in his book The square and the Tower, from Freemasons to Facebook The
Illuminati were from the offset a contradiction in terms: an organization in the service of the
Enlightenment that shrouded itself in obfuscation. One thing to keep in mind is that the Illuminati was
founded during the Enlightenment era where orders such as the Illuminati were not uncommon. Italy
was still experiencing social unrest caused by the likes of Galileo and Copernicus in their discoveries.
Their beliefs however, are quite interesting. Their main goal was essentially was to take over the
world. They believed there was some hidden thing they could learn to enlighten themselves. Seth
Belfour writes in The Illuminati Vol 1 ...a hidden, out of sight mechanism which can be grasped by our

Historical Accuracy Of Henry Iv Plays By Shakespeare
Name Instructor Course Date Historical Accuracy in Henry IV Plays by Shakespeare Research shows
that Shakespeare s historical plays do not offer good sources for accurate rendering of historical
events. The details of place of issues such as place, time, and personality are all subject to a great deal
of artistic license just as most of modern Hollywood movies about the past. However, to some extent,
Shakespeare did research his materials. Close analysis of his famous works and plays indicate that
Henry IV draws upon a surprising range of disparate sources[CITATION Jam991 p 4 l 1033 ]. One of
the most obvious sources for Henry IV plays is Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland by
Raphael Holinshed, the 1587 edition. Holinshed style of history focuses on personalities and
motivations of important historical figures as well as much detail regarding Henry s IV tussle with
Percy. Another important source used by Shakespeare in historical plays was The Civil Wars between
the Two Houses of Lancaster and York by Samuel Daniel. The poems written by Daniel differ greatly
from that of Holinshed particularly on the emphasis on the Princes of Wales and the rivalry he had
with Hotspur. Shakespeare followed and used Daniel in portraying Hotspur as a much younger person
at the period of rebellion though history shows that he was older than King Henry IV was. Both
Daniel and Shakespeare use the battle of Shrewsbury as an occasion for the prince to prove his valor

Online Learning Vs. Traditional Classroom Education
Imagine waking up, eating breakfast, going to school, and completing your course work without
leaving the comfort of your home or even your pajamas. The idea of attending school online and at
personal convenience is an option that many high school and college students have difficulty passing
up. In today s education system, students have the option to attend school in a traditional classroom
setting or attend online in the comfort of their own homes. Both options have their benefits. However,
in most cases, a traditional classroom education better prepares students K 12 for their futures by
encouraging self discipline and communication between teachers and peers. Online learning, also
known as distance learning, is growing rapidly throughout the United States. The 2012 survey of
online learning determined that the number of students taking at least one online course has now
surpassed 6.7 million (Online Learning Consortium, 2012). With the 2014 online learning statistics
being released on February 5, it is expected that the number of students has grown significantly in the
past two years and is only set to increase into 2015. A traditional classroom setting exposes students to
what it will be like in their future workplace. In a classroom, students are expected to communicate
face to face with their peers and teachers. Every time students attend school in a traditional classroom,
they interact with their peers and learn what it is like to work amongst people that they

The Importance Of A Well Protection Of Well During...
This section is an overview of the demands and tests associated with the integrity of well during
production from and injection to a reservoir.
The process begins after the well construction/well intervention organization has handed the well over
to the production organization and concludes with a handover back to drilling and well organization
for intervention, work over or abandonment.
Well integrity during this phase is used to keep hydrocarbons from the pay zone inside the well and by
protecting it from leaking off to contaminating groundwater for environmental purposes.
Well barriers are an envelope of one or several dependent barrier elements preventing fluids or gases
from flowing unintentionally from the formation to the surface ... Show more content on

These well barrier elements have to be tested and must meet the requirements and guidelines that will
enable them carry out their demands. Demands are an event or a situation that needs functioning well
barrier elements and they could be continuous or instantaneous. A continuous demand is the constant
high temperature and pressure that a well barrier must be able to withstand to avoid burst or collapse
while and instantaneous demand could be an emergency shutdown of the system from the platform.
The importance of well integrity in the production phase cannot be undermined and it could be easily
categorized in three phases, namely pre production, in production/operations and postproduction.
Pre Production
This phase as the name implies, is the phase just before we start producing from the well and pumping
up the hydrocarbons. This is also the phase when the completion personal hands over the well to the
production crew. Well integrity in this phase is very critical because we have to check the well barriers
and the well barrier elements and make sure they can handle the different types of demand prior to
pumping the hydrocarbons out of the formation. Also important is the well barrier schematics and well
barrier diagrams for the well and the necessary procedures to be taken should there be a well barrier
failure . A well barrier schematic and well barrier

Virtual Private Networks Essay
Virtual Private Networks
Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are an easy and cost effective way to connect two or more networks
over the Internet. This is achieved by using encrypted tunnels for security and efficiency. VPNs use
encapsulated and encrypted IP packets and transport them across leased Local Area Network (LAN)
lines.
The benefits of using VPNs are reduced cost overhead, reduced management overhead, and added
security (Microsoft Press, 2000). Least network lines are expensive and VPNs reduce then need for
extra data connections. This in turn also aids in reducing the amount of overhead associated with
managing a network. The added security benefits for a network include encrypted transmission of

Cryptographic authentication is used for remote user authentication. Windows and Unix platforms can
both provide for this function. While payload encryption is used for encrypting the data that is sent

encrypt data without cryptographic authentication of the remote user.
VPN cryptographic authentication is used to securely validate the identity of a remote user and
determine the level of access and security appropriate for them. It may also be used to authenticate for
the exchange of secret or public payload encryption keys. Shared secret or Private encryption keys
rely on both parties knowing the keys value. Challenge response can be used to ensure that the hashes
of the Private key and not the key itself are transmitted. In addition, one time password variations can
be employed to ensure that the Private key is changed every time that they are used.
Before data is encapsulated and sent over the Internet, it is encrypted. This is called data payload

header, to hide any information about the nature of the network and data being transmitted. This will
prevent any snoopers from gathering information about the network that is sending the packet. Data

Great Butte Mining Research Paper
On June 8, 1917, one of the most devastating disasters in Montana took place. Over 160 miners died,
this disaster being the Great Butte Mining Disaster of 1917. It was truly a devastation... When a fire

weight of the line was unbearable, causing the line to drop down the shaft. Before plastic, wire was

However, with the inspiration of the French landscape painter Claude, the landscape at this Palladian
estate is completely manmade, with hills, lakes, trees, meant to look as nature had created it, and as in
Claude s landscapes it can be divided up into three layers, incorporating a dark foreground, light
middle ground and light hazy background. Stooped in classical Roman tradition the garden is a place
to break the rules, and Stourhead has architectural samples from all over the world incorporated into
the landscape as temples, grottoes, and classical statues together with a Chinese bridge, and Turkish

artistic movement and postmodern tradition that is mainly considering originality over a technicality
when it comes to artwork (Sooful 2). Today, especially with improved technology, artists have

`` Iron John Written By Robert Bly Essay
Iron John written by Robert Bly, describes the differences between a wild and savage man. This essay
will analyze the significance of both words and Bly s theoretical considerations about masculinity
towards Dave Egger s character named Thomas, from Your Fathers, Where Are They? And the
Prophets, Do They Live Forever?
Bly believes it is crucial to distinguish the Wild Man from the savage. He mentioned, The savage
mode does great damage to soul, earth, and humankind; we can say that though the savage man is
wounded he prefers not to examine it. The Wild Man, who has examined his wound, resembles a Zen
priest, a shaman, or a woodsman more than a savage. However, wilderness in an archetype of structure
within all of us. Unless one gets to know it, one is able to realize the potential and energy within itself.
MENTION A WILD MAN. Bly exemplifies this distinction between Wild Man and Savage Man by
comparing a man living in the Fifties and a man from the Sixties. According to Bly, a Fifties man was
aggressive and lacked empathy or compassion. ANALYZE MORE Bly mentioned, A receptive space
or intimate space was missing in this images of a man. The personality lacked some sense of flow. The
psyche lacked compassion... The Fifties male had a clear vision of what a man was, and what male
responsibilities were, but the isolation and one sidedness of his vision were dangerous (Bly, p. 2).

Paul McCartney felt comfortable playing with him, later joining Lennon s band, the Quarrymen.
By the early 60s, the band had changed their name to a new nickname, The Beatles. The band
included George Harrison, Richard Starkey and Stuart Sutcliffe. These musicians soon to be world
famous started playing in Hamburg, Germany, spending a couple of years playing at multiple pubs
there. Stuart left the band early, leaving Paul to pick up the bass becoming the new bass player. During
their stay in Hamburg, the Beatles recorded their first songs, acquiring the attention of Brian Epstein,
who rapidly signed on as the Beatle s manager. Pete Best was replaced by drummer Ringo Starr who
only helped the group gain attention.
The effect that the Beatles would have on 60s music popular culture is difficult to exaggerate.
Beatlemania soon struck the world and mainstream media, and when the band made their debut in the
USA, the media mixed the period of musical crossover between the two nations the British Invasion.
However, they didn t know that this era would truly have a lasting impact on rock n roll music.
In 1967, the band suffered a tragic loss, when their manager Brian Epstein passed away. From that
point onwards, the Beatles began to lose their unified creative focus, and all four members began to
develop their own individual ambitions. In 1969, Paul married his first wife Linda, whom he d met in

Essay on Organization and Management of Panera Bread
Organization and Management of Panera Bread The formation of Panera Bread began in 1978 when
Louis Kane bought Au Bon Pain, a retail producer of baked goods. Kane changed it to a wholesale
business by opening two cafes and staffing them with bakers and employees, but high production
costs made it impossible to cover his overhead. In 1981 Kane decided to remain responsible for site
selection and financing, but he chose Robert Shaich to help turn the company around as President of

In addition, they installed a database management system for store managers and corporate executives

adding franchises to their organizational structure (Thompson C 169). Shaich used franchises to
stimulate growth by requiring qualified outside investors to open and manage at least 15 franchised
cafes in a six year period under the company name (Franchise Information). Another organizational
crisis arose in 1995 when efforts to expand the Saint Louis Bread chain in order to increase brand
awareness backfired as consumers favored Saint Louis Bread over its parent company. To solve this
conflict, new divisional presidents were created for each chain, and in 1999 Shaich convinced the
board of directors to sell all the Au Bon Pain cafes and restructure the Saint Louis Bread chain under
the name Panera Bread. Panera s current organizational structure utilizes vertical integration, with 17
fresh dough facilities that deliver to 1,591 cafes and franchises ( Our History ). Upper level managers

Face Construct And Criterion-Related Validity Essay
There are differences among face, construct, and criterion related validity. Face validity assesses a task
under evaluation. A group of subjective experts evaluate face validity (Maribo, Pedersen, Jensen,
Nielsen, 2016). Face validity can be utilized to motivate stakeholders within an organization. If
stakeholders are not supportive of the results from face validity they will become disengaged. For
example, when measuring the level of professionalism during the hiring process questions should
relate to different levels of professionalism. If not stakeholders will not be motivated to give their
opinion and the true assessment of the hiring process will not be achieved. Face validity considers the

367, 2012). This particular validity is important when it comes to legal defensibility. Construct
validity explains how what is being studied matches the actual measure. Criterion validity answers the
question of whether a test reflects a certain set of abilities. One way to assess criterion validity is to
compare it to a known standard. A reference is needed to determine an instrument s criterion related
validity. Criterion related validity predicts the future. If a nursing program designed a measure to
assess student learning throughout the program, a test such as the NCLEX would measure student s
ability in this discipline. If the instrument produces the same result as the superior test the instrument
has a high criterion related validity. The higher the results the more faith stakeholders will have in the
assessment tool. A criterion related validity study is conducted by statistically correlating scores with
some measure of job performance (Biddle, p.308, 2010). Criterion related validity is most important
when it comes to predicting performance in a specific job, and predicting future

The Free Will in Meditations on First Philosophy by Descartes
I
In Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes takes the reader through a methodological exercise in
philosophical enquiry. After stripping the intellect of all doubtful and false beliefs, he re examines the
nature and structure of being in an attempt to secure a universally valid epistemology free from
skepticism. Hoping for the successful reconciliation of science and theology, Descartes works to
reconstruct a new foundation of absolute and certain truth to act as a catalyst for future scientific
research by showing that a mathematical [rational objective] physics of the world is attainable by
creatures with our intellectual capacities and faculties (Shand 1994, p. ... Show more content on

The will, at its most basic, consists in saying yes or no to ideas or propositions. Descartes adopts the
position that the free will is independent of the deterministic and fundamental laws that govern matter.
Human behavior is neither dictated by mechanical compulsion, nor persuaded or coerced by God, nor
influenced by any external force to act in a predetermined manner. Descartes, in a bold stroke,
proclaims the divine grace of God along with natural knowledge actually increases and strengthens
human freedom, as opposed to restricting its effectiveness.
As a thinking entity, Descartes is a consciousness mind aware of the potential to engage in various
modes of existence. To the numerous operations of thought he includes doubting, understanding,
affirming, denying, willing, refusing, imagining, and sensing. As varied and manifold as these
operations appear, they are but expressions of two principal types of conscious activity, to which
Descartes eventually traces the nature of error. Thinking and reasoning, together with all belief in
general, depend upon the operation of the twin faculties knowing and choosing, or the free will.
Garrett Thompson writes:
Descartes divides all thoughts into two kinds: ideas

What Were The Causes Of The First World War
By the fact, we know that there were four main causes, which led to the First World War. Exactly, they
are Militarism, Alliance, Imperialism, and Nationalism. Actually, each of them had an influence that
created the conditions to the First World War, however imperialism created tension that became build

(militarism, alliance and nationalism) were able to influence to the beginning of the First World War.
Generally, imperialism is known as a kind of government that tries to build its size, either by affecting
different nations to submit to their principle. Despite the fact that not all events that fall into the
imperialistic classification were about controlling another nation, they participated to the war, and
imperialistic events were the establishment of the reason for the First World War.

Comparison Of Watson And Winslow Homer Portrayed In The...
The works of art, that John Singleton Copley portrayed in Watson and the Shark and Winslow Homer
portrayed in The Fog Warning, strike a sense of mystery and fear into the heart of the viewer. With
The Fog Warning, I wonder if the fisherman will meet his destination at the large vessel before the
looming ominous fog swallows him up. If the fisherman does not arrive at the large vessel within the
given time, he may be lost at sea forever. When I admire Watson and the Shark, I contemplate if the
blood running from the mouth of the shark (where it presumably previously attacked Watson) and also
pouring into the water (where Watson seems to have lost the bottom portion of his leg in an attack)
will be the final blood shared amongst the two. Will the sailors save Watson from the ferociousness of
the mighty beast or will he suffer a terrible fate and perish at sea? While both compositions allow for
mystery and contain a quite eerie sense of doom, the artists portrayed these stories through painting
them in quite opposite directions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Troy In August Wilson s Fences
A literary strategy often used by the greatest of writers to make their work feel more real to life is
creating a morally ambiguous character. August Wilson is among those writers in how he portrays
Troy in Fences. In the play, some ways August Wilson portrays Troy as a morally ambiguous character
is through Troy s treatment and care for his family. August Wilson also depicts Troy as a morally
ambiguous character in the way of his interactions with Cory, how Troy holds Cory back from playing
a sport that Cory really loves, yet he says that he wants the best for his family. Finally, August Wilson
portrays Troy as a morally ambiguous character in how Troy always wants to be better than his father,
but then he falls right back into the pattern his father set by not taking his family seriously. This moral
ambiguity of Troy is significant to the play because it makes the reader connect more with the play
and keeps the reader entertained by having such a static character. It also makes the work feel alive
and fluid as the reader goes through the play, not knowing what to expect next from Troy. August
Wilson first depicts Troy as a morally ambiguous character in how Troy loves his family and how he
cares for his family, but then he goes and cheats on his family. This can be seen in the very beginning
of the play when Troy and Bono are talking about the new girl who just moved into town. They talk
about how nice her body is and how they want to get with her, but then Troy

beautiful beaches. What is the difference between El Salvadoran culture and American Culture? What
are their values, norms and traditions? What are the contemporary issues for this group? The
consequences of subordinate group status? Many people might be surprised to learn that El Salvador,
the smallest country in Central and South America, is among the top ten countries of origin of foreign
born persons in the United States. Two decades of civil war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Girls are expected to marry, look after children, and obey their husbands, none of which requires an
education, according to both parents and daughters. Girls are expected to be celibate on their wedding
night, but the value of being monogamous for young men is not equally important. While machismo is
commonly understood to be part of Salvadoran culture, the female version is less obvious but still
common. Machisma or matriarquia characterizes a woman who at home controls the family by angrily
scolding its members, especially the husband. A mandona, or one who orders another person about,
may bully a husband into doing household chores and going to the store. Men are not only the family s
wage earners, but they occupy most positions of authority and power in virtually every aspect of
Salvadoran culture, although this is slowly changing. Sometimes men look down on women, and
domestic abuse is not uncommon nor is sexual harassment at work or in public. Fathers and mothers
alike are deceitful in fostering the values and behaviors of machismo in their sons. Boys are
encouraged to attend school and to use their formal training to support their future families. They are
allowed to be more independent than girls, the low income population of rural El Salvador, which
educates the majority of the country, experiences an inordinately large amount of disadvantages within
their social structure. The gender gap within the culture itself

Hernan Cortez Expedition
During a time when there were many expeditions to the new world, Hernan Cortez was a man who set
out to expand Spain s grasp on newly discovered land. The Governor had scheduled for Cortez to
explore the newly discovered Mexico area in a small expedition. It was ultimately canceled, but
Cortez still set out on February 18th, 1519 with Spanish men to the new land.
In Mexico, Cortez claimed the land for Spain and prepared to take down the Mayans and their leader,
Montezuma II. He acquired an interpreter and mistress from natives at Tabasco and then teamed up
with the Tlaxcalans, enemies of the Aztecs. He and his men marched through Mexico and began the
Siege of Tenochtitlan. First, Cortez took over the main Aztec city of Tenochtitlan by coming

William Hogarth Age Of Reason
The Age of Reason was named for the years from 1700 to 1789 where the best minds passionately
believed in the power of knowledge to improve both the individual and society (EH 437). This time
was part of the Enlightenment, where educated minds were highly thought of and logical thinking was
favored over emotions. It was during this time that William Hogarth (1697 1764) lived and produced
paintings. One of his many famous sets is still notable to this day: Marriage a la Mode, an oil on
canvas six piece series. It is considered a social satire during the time it was produced, which we can
still prove by analyzing the 6 pieces it encapsulates. Using this analysis, we can see how it expresses
the theme of reason and emotion in the framework ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first painting there are seven figures that can be identified through their clothing. The more
colorful and vibrant the piece of clothing was the more money it cost. Due to this, others around you
would know of your social standing based upon your attire. A young man and woman are to be wed,
and in the first piece the lawyers are drawing up the marriage contracts. The woman is to be married in
to a more prominent family. This can be seen by comparing the clothes of the fathers as well as the
family tree the richer father holds. The second piece shows the now married couple in the morning.
The husband is passed out in a chair with a pair of underwear in his pocket. We know that back then
this was common after a night of partying. However, since the wife is sitting next to him fully clothed
we know that the underwear isn t hers. Additionally, we see her holding a man s hat in her hand as she
stretches while her husband has his hat still on from the night before. The third image reveals the
husband in a quack s office with a young mistress as he seeks treatment for the illness causing the
sores on his

Characteristics Of Ngo Dinh Diem
Ngo Dinh Diem was a man who had been described by many different titles. This was due to the many
decisions he made in order to advance in his political career. There is evidence which proves that
Diem had both nationalist and opportunist characteristics in him. This essay will investigate whether
he was predominately a nationalist or an opportunist through an analysis of different sources which
exhibit what Ngo Dinh Diem did. The essay will investigate whether he was a nationalist or an
opportunist by analysing the state in which South Vietnam was in, the decisions which Diem made
and how the people of South Vietnam and the world reacted to them.
A nationalist is defined as somebody who tries to obtain political independence for their country. An
opportunist is defined as somebody who takes advantage of circumstances to their benefit. In Source
H there is evidence which shows that Diem played an active and important role in achieving his
political success. This suggests that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the 11th of June 1963 in Saigon, a Buddhist monk named Thich Quang, set himself on fire in the
middle of a busy street. Quang did this in protest against Diem s anti Buddhist campaign, which did
not allow Buddhist to have religious freedom as the Catholics did. (Source B, Photographer: Malcolm
Browne.) Despite such a big form of protest Diem did not stop his anti Buddhist campaign. Diem
became unstoppable as many Buddhists were now being murdered (Source E: Author: J. Llewellyn et
al, South Vietnam , Alpha History.) this could have been a result of Diem s extreme dislike of the
Buddhist. Diem also may have felt like the Buddhists were standing in his way of gaining more
political power. This is evidence that shows that Diem was opportunistic as he was trying to get rid of
the Buddhists as he believed that they were the

And in the meanwhile, the United States led Japan, China and some other Asian countries to establish the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the reconstruction of Asia after the war. IBRD, ADB and IMF (International Monetary Fund), etc. occupy the monopolistic and predominant status all around the world for several decades. In the other words, they dedicate the economic and the political tendency all over the world. However, there are many problems and unreasonable terms for the debit and credit, investment, financing and so on, which are related to the political reasons, exist in IBRD, ADB and IMF. These restricts influence the development of those Third World countries severely. Along with some other reasons and details, in October 2013, China put forward suggestions to establish Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), a multilateral development organization with 100 billion authorized capital, which supports the infrastructure development for Asian countries especially, and the headquarter is set up in Beijing, China. The book is written in first person with the narrator being the square. The first half of the book explained all about Flatland and how everything worked in a two dimensional world. There were many different elements that had to be explained before the reader could somewhat grasp the concept of life in only two dimensions. The first thing explained was the social classes which relied on how many sides one had, with a isosceles triangle being the lowest class and a circle being the highest class. If an isosceles triangle does good deeds and lives a good life, he can become an equilateral triangle and move up into a higher class. I really did not like this part of the book because it seemed really unfair to that a kid could be born into a bad family and never have a chance at a good life. Of course ... The second half of the book had to deal with the square s journey into the third dimension. First, he had a dream about a one dimensional world, called Lineland, where he had to explain to lines and points that there is more than their dimension. Of course, they could not comprehend the second dimension because it is virtually impossible to visualize another dimension than one s own. Next, the square was visited by what he thought was a circle but in reality was a sphere. The sphere told him that he had given him the dream of Lineland, and he tried to use the same reasoning he used with the lines and points to convince him that there was another dimension, the third ... Causes Of The Black Death The plague, a mutated bacteria, spread rapidly throughout Europe because of the lack of sanitary conditions and trade routes At first, people were unaware of the causes of the illness. The plague is caused by a mutated bacteria called Yersinia pestis. It was named after Alexandre Yersin, a biologist who discovered it in 1894 ( Black Death ). The lack of cleanliness in the Elizabethan Era contributed to the rapid spread of the plague. Sanitation lacked immensely in large cities, such as London. There were open sewers, garbage everywhere, and no running water. Fleas, lice, and rats flourished in the environment (Alchin, Elizabethan Medicine and Illnesses ). It crept up on me; starting as just an annoying dull ache in my hip. Gradually growing confidence, steadily growing until the roar of the pain became so loud, I could not focus on anything else. But I was stubborn. I told myself I could push through it; that I had to push through it. Nationals were only two weeks away. I could not afford to lose any time... I was torn. On one hand, I had hope that maybe if I saw a doctor, they could fix it and ease the pain. On the other, I was scared. The risk that they would pull me out of dance and not let me compete at nationals seemed to outweigh the benefits. It was my dance teacher that finally convinced me to see a doctor. I remember feeling dazed walking into the hospital; everything was a blur yet seemed to happen in slow motion. And the smell. It was overwhelming and stale. And yet, their first intuition of the Native Americans was described as barbarians, savages, and cannibals. Historical Accuracy Of Henry Iv Plays By Shakespeare Name Instructor Course Date Historical Accuracy in Henry IV Plays by Shakespeare Research shows that Shakespeare s historical plays do not offer good sources for accurate rendering of historical events. The details of place of issues such as place, time, and personality are all subject to a great deal of artistic license just as most of modern Hollywood movies about the past. However, to some extent, Shakespeare did research his materials. Close analysis of his famous works and plays indicate that Henry IV draws upon a surprising range of disparate sources[CITATION Jam991 p 4 l 1033 ]. One of the most obvious sources for Henry IV plays is Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland by Raphael Holinshed, the 1587 edition. Holinshed style of history focuses on personalities and motivations of important historical figures as well as much detail regarding Henry s IV tussle with Percy. Another important source used by Shakespeare in historical plays was The Civil Wars between the Two Houses of Lancaster and York by Samuel Daniel. The poems written by Daniel differ greatly from that of Holinshed particularly on the emphasis on the Princes of Wales and the rivalry he had with Hotspur. Shakespeare followed and used Daniel in portraying Hotspur as a much younger person at the period of rebellion though history shows that he was older than King Henry IV was. In today s education system, students have the option to attend school in a traditional classroom setting or attend online in the comfort of their own homes. Both options have their benefits. However, in most cases, a traditional classroom education better prepares students K 12 for their futures by encouraging self discipline and communication between teachers and peers. Online learning, also known as distance learning, is growing rapidly throughout the United States. The 2012 survey of online learning determined that the number of students taking at least one online course has now surpassed 6.7 million (Online Learning Consortium, 2012). With the 2014 online learning statistics being released on February 5, it is expected that the number of students has grown significantly in the past two years and is only set to increase into 2015. A traditional classroom setting exposes students to what it will be like in their future workplace. In a classroom, students are expected to communicate face to face with their peers and teachers. The process begins after the well construction/well intervention organization has handed the well over to the production organization and concludes with a handover back to drilling and well organization for intervention, work over or abandonment. The importance of well integrity in the production phase cannot be undermined and it could be easily categorized in three phases, namely pre production, in production/operations and postproduction. Pre Production This phase as the name implies, is the phase just before we start producing from the well and pumping up the hydrocarbons. This is also the phase when the completion personal hands over the well to the production crew. Well integrity in this phase is very critical because we have to check the well barriers and the well barrier elements and make sure they can handle the different types of demand prior to pumping the hydrocarbons out of the formation. And the Prophets, Do They Live Forever? Bly believes it is crucial to distinguish the Wild Man from the savage. He mentioned, The savage mode does great damage to soul, earth, and humankind; we can say that though the savage man is wounded he prefers not to examine it. The Wild Man, who has examined his wound, resembles a Zen priest, a shaman, or a woodsman more than a savage. However, wilderness in an archetype of structure within all of us. August Wilson also depicts Troy as a morally ambiguous character in the way of his interactions with Cory, how Troy holds Cory back from playing a sport that Cory really loves, yet he says that he wants the best for his family. Finally, August Wilson portrays Troy as a morally ambiguous character in how Troy always wants to be better than his father, but then he falls right back into the pattern his father set by not taking his family seriously. This moral ambiguity of Troy is significant to the play because it makes the reader connect more with the play and keeps the reader entertained by having such a static character. It also makes the work feel alive and fluid as the reader goes through the play, not knowing what to expect next from Troy. August Wilson first depicts Troy as a morally ambiguous character in how Troy loves his family and how he cares for his family, but then he goes and cheats on his family.
