Argumentative Essay On Religious Discrimination
Religious Discrimination Discrimination, a word that can meet quite a lot, there are many different
types of discrimination some of course are harsher than others. There s just one type of discrimination
that has been on the rise for some time now, and that s persecution. Persecution just means bad
treatment simply because of race, political, or religious beliefs. The area that has been hit over and
over for some time is religious persecution. A very sad but true reality for many people having to hide
to worship their beliefs. The most persecuted religion in the world may come to a shock to some
people, but the most persecuted religion is Christianity. Followed by Islam, and third is Judaism.
Christianity is the most popular religion in the United States, but is the least popular worldwide. To
put it in perspective, Christians are persecuted in over 130 countries for just their beliefs. To add on to
that, each month about 322 Christians are killed, along with that each month 214 Christian churches
and properties are destroyed. Out of all the religions in the world, none are more persecuted than
Christians, with all of this in mind it s something else when most people have no idea of this at all.
Through several surveys I found that 7 out of 10 people thought that other religions such as Islam and
Judaism are more persecuted than Christians. Why is it that as popular as Christianity is in the United
States, that there is so little people that accurately know what is

Dictatorship, Conspiracies, And Uprisings
Dictatorship, conspiracies, and uprisings are what led to the Mexican Revolution. The long battle
among various sectors and changing alliances resulted in the victory of ending the thirty year
dictatorship in Mexico as well as the development of a constitutional republic. The Mexican
Revolution was the first revolution of modern times that focused on the needs and dreams of the
Mexican people. In the following discussion, we will dissect the history of the Mexican Revolution
and how it has shaped an essential part of Mexico s history.
During the 30 year period, there are several phases that caused the revolution to unfold. Between the
years 1810 and 1821, Mexico fought and won their independence from Spain. As a result of their ...

Additionally, a limited amount of powerful families and their clients dominated political and
economic power in the regions (Knight, 1980).
Porfirio Diaz was able to control the people of Mexico for such an extensive amount of time due to his
political system and the authority of his notorious Rurales. The Rurales were the government force of
men used to patrol the Mexican Pueblos (valleys). If the Rurales caught people stealing, intoxicated,
or disrespecting Diaz, they were either shot and killed immediately or sent to southern plantations as
slave workers. During this time, life for the Mexican people was filled with poverty, fear, and
hopelessness.
The Mexican Revolution commenced as a movement of the middle class in 1910. The people were
rising and protesting against the extensive, 34 year dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz. Francisco Ignacio
Madero, a wealthy business man, become part of and led the Anti Reelectionist Movement. Francisco
Madero announced his candidacy and demanded Porfirio Diaz not to force himself to be reelected.
Through corruption and coercion, Diaz declared himself the winner of the election and ordered
Madero s arrest; however, Madero was able to escape before being captured. While hiding alone in
San Antonio, Texas, Francisco Madero published his plan, Plan

The Twilight Sag Teenage, Vampire, Romance
Twilight Saga: Teenage, Vampire, Romance The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Myer created a massive
fan following that grew into a supernatural franchise. The story of Bella and Edward was in the hands
of countless teenagers and adults alike, captivating audiences with the classic story of young love, but
with a vampire twist. The books were published starting when I was a young teenager, and I was not
immune to the charms of a sparkly vampire fighting his desire for love for the sake of her safety. I
religious read all four books, a few times, until the hard covers cracked at the edges, and the open
books fell open to my favorite parts from being opened for so long. After the books created a
sensation, a movie series was created. In a non surprising fashion, the movies were popular, but as any
book lover will tell you about any movie made after a book, the book was better, way better. Reading
the story at the time, I ignored critics of the book, swearing by its love story and defending the text as
it stood in my world. Re reading this book as an adult who has continued to read, I came to the
realizations that my tastes have evolved over time. I still enjoyed the story during my re read this past
time, but the writing was not as striking; gone was the passion and addiction so deep I could not set
the books down. The first time I read Breaking Dawn, I read it straight it twelve hours not stopping for
anything. I read from 7pm until 7am, this month reading Twilight, was nowhere

Isolation In Stephanie Meyer s Twilight
Deeper Into the Twilight
Modern vampire interpretations are supposed to be relatable or desired, they are no longer supposed to
be feared. Stephanie Meyer s book series Twilight is one of the most popular teenage vampire
interpretations. The vampire characters within the movie are metaphors for the teenager.
It is common for teenagers to feel isolated from their surroundings and the people around them. The
Cullen s in the movie are automatically isolated from the rest of the town because they are the newest
citizens and live outside of the town isolated from everyone else. When Bella Swan invited Edward
Cullen to come to the beach with her group of friends he declined feeling like he would not be wanted
there. One of the characters, Angela, had this to say while they were at the beach, It was nice that
Bella invited Edward, nobody ever does. This is what Mike had to say in response, That s because
Cullen is a freak. The other male characters in the scene chimed in with their agreement on his
comment. Not only are the Cullen s isolated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The costumes of the vampires are all light and neutral colour clothing that stand out from the humans
who wear darker shades of clothing. This is an immediate difference to the audience that these people
are different therefore isolating them. The framing of the scene where the Cullen teenagers are
introduced, they are sitting in the top left corner of the cafeteria/screen furthest away from everyone
else in the cafeteria. There is a strong connection to isolation right away within this scene for the
audience from the costumes to the framing of the shot. Just like the vampires, what a teenager wears
or where they sit in the cafeteria could isolate themselves from the majority. These are common
worries that teenagers have because they wanted to be accepted and not be the one who is isolated

The Limits Of Growth ( Tltg )
Introduction
At the time it was written, The Limits to Growth (TLTG) was groundbreaking in its modeling,
analysis and subsequent predictions of future trends. It is a policy paper pushing for sustainable
development, coupled with technological modernisation. This essay will examine TLTG through an
ecocentric lens. First, this paper will briefly summarise ecocentrism. Second, it will discuss TLTG and
its findings in a contemporary context. It will be argued that TLTG ultimately failed in its ambition,
because it utilised a discourse system that did not address key systematic causes of resource depletion.
TLTG recognises human s overconsumption and disregard for the Earth s finite resources as a cause of
exponential growth. However, it very much focuses on the survival of people rather than the Earth s
intrinsic value. An ecocentric perspective argues that each fragment of the Earth has an intangible
value and should be treated accordingly; a concept that TLTG does not address.
An ecocentric perspective has the propensity to halt the over exploitation that occurs at such an
alarming rate. Ecocentrism should be applied on a systemic, domestic and individual level to avoid the
Earth s further degradation. Indeed, this would require the re structuring of capitalism. Subsequently, a
seemingly radical and alternative discourse system is needed to dominate policy documents such as
TLTG. This essay does not suggest that ecocentric perspectives would be successful in creating

Te The Drink That Changed The World
According to Laura C. Martin, in the book, Tea: the Drink that changed the World, tea is an aromatic
beverage widely consumed around the world. The beverage is prepared by pouring boiling water over
Camellia Sinensis leaves, the major tealeaves. The leaves grow in different areas in Asia, but most
notably in Chian and India (Martin, 2007). There are a variety of tea flavors. For example, Darjeeeling
and Chinese green tea have a bitter flavor, while other teas have sweet, grassy or floral flavor
(Teavana, 2015). The Historian John Griffiths explains that upon the European colonization of North
America, the colonizers introduced tea to the colonies (Griffiths, 2007). He continues that tea appealed
to all classes and has easily adapted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of a sudden, a light breeze caused little leaves to fall into the water. The emperor tasted the water
and found it delicious (Higgins Burke, 2014). Tea became an essential beverage in China. While the
story of tea indicates that tea was introduced from Ancient China, tea has been a crucial trade product
that travelled through centuries to reach almost every corner in the world. Higgins and Burke argue
that from China to North American, tea developed to new variations, flavors, uses, production
methods, and equipment. Also, tea rituals have developed and taken a significant place in local
cultures (Higgins Burke, 2014).
Tea in the United States:
According to the article, About American Tea culture, every time tea is introduced to a new country, it
implicates and mutates to a new tea culture that deeply influences the society (bonteavant, 2012). Tea
is probably the only beverage that spurs dramatic change in the societies to which it is introduced
providing propulsion for poetry, meditation, civil disobedience, economic shifts, social and spiritual
rituals. Also, tea has greatly been valued as a medicine or even used as currency or as food
(Bonteavant, 2012). The article mentions how tea has enhanced American economy as well as the
social and physical health of the society

Crimes Of Pygmy Case Summary
Question One
Cephu had committed many crimes, one being what is probably one of the most heinous crimes in
Pygmy eyes, and one that rarely occurs. His first and less major sin was to refuse to share and
participate with the other hunters and families. He had gone off to make a camp and fire of his own,
even though the group was supposed to be working together and had a mutualistic relationship. His
other crime was the major one and what everyone in the camp had been waiting for. Not only did he
name a dead woman, an unheard offense but also he denied that she was his mother. Even though
there was only the most distant relationship, and that by marriage, it was equivalent to asserting that
he did not belong to the same group as Ekianga and Manyalibo and the rest. Even though Cephu had
committed a heinous crime, the case was settled simply and effectively. He was ignored and not
offered a chair and had his food taken away from him and was ignored by the men in his camp. All of
these actions may seem small but in the eyes of a Pygmy, none of these actions/punishments were
quickly forgotten. Kelemoke had also committed a very serious crime; he had committed the crime of
incest. Kelemoke tried to take refuge in a hut, but he was turned away with angry remarks, and a
burning log was thrown after him. At this point three girls came running out of Cephu s camp, right
into the middle of the clearing. They carried knives and were shouting curses at Kelemoke and his
family all while

Compare And Contrast Krakatoa And Mt St Helens
Imagine being on an island when all of a sudden an ear shattering boom reverberates around you. On
August 27, 1883, 10:02 in the morning, Krakatoa erupted with immense force on a modern day
Indonesia island. Almost a century later, Mount Saint Helens, located in the state of Washington,
erupted at 8:30 a.m., on May 18, 1980. Although Mount Saint Helens and Krakatoa had a lot of
distance from each other, they were both composite volcanoes. Composite volcanoes produce a thick
lava that causes a lot of damage. When Krakatoa erupted, scientists were unaware of what was about
to happen. Because of Krakatoa s eruption, we were more prepared for Mount Saint Helens s
explosion. The information from both of these two volcanoes are continually gathered and reviewed

would soon erupt, there were government officials, scientists, T.V. headlines, and door to door
officials, all informing the nearby citizens that they should evacuate. Before the tragic eruptions of
Mount Saint Helens and Krakatoa there was a series of different natural disasters and explosions.

Gatsby and Daisy, Tom and Myrtle, and George
The relationship between Tom and Myrtle was different from Gatsby and Daisy s relationship. Tom,
described with physical strength, has his history, abilities, and sensuality that make him right. On the
other hand, his wife, Daisy comes out to be the weakest character from a reader s point of view,
because people ask her for a lot ( Great , Scott). Tom always claimed that he was deeply in love with
Daisy, but every chance he had to leave town he went and slept with Myrtle Wilson. She knew Tom
was married but that did not stop her from loving him. Tom left town one day and decided to drag
Nick along with him. He convinces Myrtle that he wants her to leave with him and Nick on the train to
the apartment on 158th Street (Baker). Myrtle is married to Wilson. After Myrtle buys a puppy, Tom
and her head back to their city apartment along with Nick. The apartment began to flutter with people
as Myrtle had decided to throw a party. Nick was curious to know what their appearance would look
like to an outside observer because the party only merged to get drunker as the puppy sat in the smoky
air ( Great , Novels). In the other room, Tom was having his affair with Myrtle. It was loud enough
that Nick and the women could hear them repeatedly. Nick was shocked that Tom took his wife s
cousin to such a place where he cheated on his wife. That is part of the reason Nick encouraged Daisy
to come to dinner with Gatsby. After a few short drinks, Myrtle starts getting loud. She begins to

Nokia Growth Strategy
Introduction
The finance term acquisition means a corporate action to buy a part of or all of a target company s
ownership states (Hill, 2012). This action aims at taking control of the target firm. In the common
scenario, a firm takes an acquisition towards the target company in order to achieve potential growth.
The company treats the acquisition as a beneficial step to take over an existing company s operation
instead of taking an expansive action by itself.
In the first quarter of 2013, Microsoft announced a deal to buy the mobile device business from Nokia

Jazz Concert Report The concert I decided to go to was held in Valley Brewing Company. The event
was called Take 5, Jazz at the Brew . I went to the show July 11, 2013. The group I saw didn t have a
name. It was just a group of people performing together. The concert hall was a very nice venue. It
was on an extended closed off area past the common area at the bar. The area was very dim lit and was
decorated very fancy and elaborate. The music that was played that night was Jazz. The group had 4
people in the group and they all came from different backgrounds. The Drummer was a young African
American male that was very talented. The trumpet player was a heavy set Caucasian male that looked

were competing with each other like the last song. The song had some form to it aside from the
trumpet. The trumpet was very wild and had many different ranges. The melody was the same
throughout the song aside from the trumpet as well. There was a steady flow throughout the whole
song. The dynamic of the song was very calm and quiet aside from the trumpet. I didn t appreciate that
because it was so distracting. The tempo was at a mild pace. Not all the instruments were played
during this song. It was only 2 instruments played at a time during the whole time. The next song on
the playlist was called Everything Happens To Me . The texture to this was very soft as well. The
instruments were playing off each other but it was still a freestyle type of song. I think jazz is
generally played like freestyle. There was no melody to this song. The rhythm was not existent as
well. It was more of a free flowing song. This song had a very quiet dynamic. It sounded very
romantic like something out of a movie. The tempo of the song was very slow and mild but the
trumpet was going very fast. The cello and the drums had a portion of the song where they fed off
each other s energy and the trumpet was doing its own thing. The last song on the set list was called

Dostoyevsky ‘Notes from Underground’ Critique Essay
Notes from Underground was published in 1864 as a feature presentation of his first 1860 issue The

challenges in his life. Dostoyevsky faced failure in the publishing of his first journal Time , his
financial position was becoming weaker and embarrassing. Moreover, his wife was dying and his
conservatism was eroded leading to a decline in his popularity with the liberal reading Russians and
consequently, he became the focus of attack by the radical and liberal press (Fanger 3). Therefore, this

By the time the author had completed writing Notes from Underground the society had moved to
liberalism and abandoned reasoning and enlightenment (Frank 35). This is clearly represented in this
novel since by the end, as the author concluded that there was more to man than enlightenment and
reasoning.
The underground man is an educated, literate, forty year old financially stable man, who, lives in a
modern society. As the novel progresses, the underground man remembers the days he used to work
without any affection. The man lives now alone in a place described as unattractive where he is
completely cut off from friends and family (Fanger 5). This situation provides an indication of the
troubles underground man is going through for they do not arise from work, money problems or the
lack of social interaction opportunities. This man has money, is educated and has plenty of social
interaction opportunities but he d rather remain in his solitude, Dostoevsky shows that in all respect
the man has reached enlightenment (Frank 36).
The problems of underground man are all concerned with what is happening to him from the inside.
This man is suffering from a disease that arises from his lack of feeling completely healthy. Though
the novel has depicted many medical discussions on doctors, liver problems, medicines, the real
disease is emotional distress. The entire first section of the book is about how emotionally troubled the

Silence Of Lambs
At first glance, The Silence of the Lambs is a murder riddle blood and gore movie with a science
fiction creature sort villain. This underhanded reprobate has superhuman capabilities that rouse
amazement and fear in the film s saints and also in the group of onlookers. This creature is reminiscent
of King Kong in that he builds up a defensive connection with the heroine who alone comprehends
him. But what distinguishes this motion picture from those where the villain is a Fly, a Blob, a
Creature from Outer Space, or a Devil that has a possessed an innocent little girl, is that here the
wonderful adversary is none other than a man, and, truth be told, a cultured, refined man, a specialist,
a therapist depicted in the film by Anthony Hopkins. Here, the issue is a man who is fearsome,
amazing, interesting, and an abhorrent incarnate. Indeed, even Dr. Frankenstein was not abhorrent in
this sense: It was his beast who played out the insidious demonstrations, and the specialist was just
pretty much aware of what was happening. Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As a young child, I remember being asked the question: what do you want to be when you grow up?
While I struggled with the answer for many years, in the course of my studies and work experience, I

Women s Gender And Gender Roles
In terms of the heterosexual majority, respectability applied deeply to women and their gender roles as
wives, because it was the way to distinguish between good and oversexed women (Kushner 9/25/15).
The characteristics of women consisted of being pious, pure and religious, as they were the moral
superiors to men (Kushner, 9/25/15). This moral superiority linked to the idea that Cott presents of
female passionlessness, which was the result of subsequent lack of sexual aggressiveness (Cott 1987:
220). Passionlessness however was not simply a gendered characteristic it played a vital sexual as the
controlling factor over hyper sexual husbands (Cott 1978: 235). The very structure of Victorian
marriages relied on women s passionlessness because it supported women s demure and respectable
nature in society, while also keeping men under control and containing sexuality to the home
(Kushner, 9/25/15). The concept of respectability not only shaped how women and men acted in both
sexual and non sexual ways but outlined the ways proper marriages ought to function. In order to
understand the re rise to conservatism in the mid twentieth century post war America, one must
consider the influence of Sexology on society. Sexology which is the study of sexuality, behavior,
functions, and identity gained importance between the late ninetieth century and the early twentieth in
the West. During this time Sexologists like Krafft Ebbing, Kinsey, and Ulricks, studied sexual

The African Continent has been the place that is known as a mystery for the Europeans. Despite of the

Essay on quot;The Raped Girl s Father quot;
The Raped Girl s Father
Bones, she was diced bones rolled on black. The Raped Girl s Father is a disturbing poem about a girl
who is unluckily raped, and how this brings incredible anger and shame to her father. Written by
Bruce Dawe, it contains an inept use of thought, feeling and language. It is an absorbing evocation of
the girl s feelings and her horrendous suffering, and how her identity has changed as a consequence of
the rape for herself, her father and society.

The malevolent personification of darkness creates the sense that it symbolising her father, and
perhaps the rapist wants to hurt, cause fear and distress, and is a genuine danger to her.
So the girl lies in that darker dark , where there is simply no hope or relief of the grief that she is
feeling. What is this darker dark ? This concept causes the reader to assume she has given up and is
powerless; that this dark is completely evil, and damaging her. A victim, she lies in what she believes
will not cease. For every second of her father s brutal anger she feels his jaws rasp on the naked bone.
Another auditory image, this is an incredibly harsh sound that evokes disturbing violence, a vicious
sense of him biting and cutting into her. Furthermore, the girl feels pain to his anger, right to her naked
bone or her core. She is raw and exposed, and a disturbing impression of death, violation and cruelty
is conveyed. Because of the rape and the consequence of her father s anger, she has lost all innocence
and is utterly vulnerable.
In a crescendo of pain, devastation and hysteria, the girl mentions her terror in reliving the rape when

The Mexican State Of Coahuila Y Tejas
American settlement in Texas began with the encouragement of first the Spanish, and then Mexican,
governments. In the summer of 1820 Moses Austin, a bankrupt 59 year old Missourian, asked Spanish
authorities for a large Texas land tract which he would promote and sell to American pioneers.
The request by Austin seemed preposterous. His background was that of a Philadelphia dry goods
merchant, a Virginia mine operator, a Louisiana judge, and a Missouri banker. But early in 1821, the
Spanish government gave him permission to settle 300 families in Texas. Spain welcomed the
Americans for two reasons to provide a buffer against illegal U.S. settlers, who were creating
problems in east Texas even before the grant was made to Austin, and to help develop the land, since
only 3,500 native Mexicans had settled in Texas which was part of the Mexican state of Coahuila y
Tejas. Texas or Tejas as the Mexicans called it had technically been a part of the Spanish empire since
the 17th century. However, even as late as the 1820s, there were only about 3,000 Spanish Mexican
settlers in Texas, and Mexico City s hold on the territory was tenuous at best. After winning its own
independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico welcomed large numbers of Anglo American immigrants
into Texas in the hopes they would become loyal Mexican citizens and keep the territory from falling
into the hands of the United States. During the next decade men like Stephen Austin brought more
than 25,000 people to Texas,

The Death Penalty Is The Ineffective And Expensive Process...
Introduction:
The ongoing problem of the death penalty system in California is the ineffective and expensive
process between sentencing and executing. The Death Penalty Information Center (DPIC), a national
non profit organization serving the media and the public with analysis and information on issues
concerning capital punishment, published the total numbers of death row inmates by states on July 1,
2016. From the data, California has the largest death rows in America. There are 741 inmates on death
row in California. The next is 396 in Florida and 254 in Texas. However, there are just 13 executed
prisons in California since the reinstatement of death penalty in 1978. The California Department of
Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), operating all prisons and parole systems in California,
published a document to analyze the time of execution. According to the statistics, the average time
served on death row is 17.9 years and the average age at time of execution is 49 years old. A typical
example is Clarence Ray Allen, who had been convicted in 1982, but he has not been executed until
2006. After the execution, one of the victims family members claimed that it has taken 23 years but
justice has prevailed today. Mr. Allen abused the justice system with endless appeals until he lived
longer in prison than the short 17 years of Josephine s life ( Clarence Ray Allen Summary 4). The case
of Allen reflects that most of the prisons stay on the death row for more than two

Biography Of John Singer Sargent s Life
John Singer Sargent began his life in Florence, Italy, on January 12th, 1856, and he grew up abroad, as
his parents became expatriates, leaving behind their home in Philadelphia to enjoy living and
travelling through Europe. It was because of this that Sargent s education was somewhat
unconventional, for his study was mostly informal, and this may have contributed to his singular
personality. Sargent s early exposure to European art and culture certainly had a profound effect on
him, and he was able to converse readily in French, German, and Italian through his travels. The
knowledge he gained through his life abroad proved to be quite helpful throughout his career, and this
exposure to such diversity would later become evident in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One of the best examples of Sargent s early style is his dramatic painting of 1882, El Jaleo, where his
emulation of Velázquez use of light and color is especially apparent (Fig 1). Possibly the painting in
which Velázquez influence is most obvious, however, is the painting The Daughters of Edward Darley
Boit of 1882 (Fig 2). Its candid arrangement, subjects, vast shadows, luminosity, and muted colors
bring to mind Velázquez renowned painting Las Meninas (Fig. 3).
Although Sargent was creating and studying art during the 19th century art movement of
Impressionism, his art did not reflect this exposure, apart from some of his early works, and it is not
generally considered Impressionist; nevertheless, certain of his artistic elements do show that there
was some effect on his style from the artists of his time. One such characteristic of the Impressionist
movement is Sargent s compositional arrangements that are somewhat candid. Additionally, a
prominent feature of Sargent s art is his fascination with and masterful handling of light. Light was
one of the principles that was of greatest importance in Impressionist art, and their art was in reaction
to the reflex of light, either real or imaginary. This definition of one of the aesthetic principles of
Impressionism truly encapsulates the work of Sargent, for, even in his earliest art, his attention to
light, its source real or fairly

The Effects Of Media On The Media Influences Viewers
Racial Bias in the Media Influences Viewers
Television reaches more consumers for more time than any other source of media. Its use for
entertainment or news is overly influential, persuasive, and authoritative. Through these
characteristics, any type of information or message influences its massive audience. Because of this,
what Americans see or fail to see has a powerful impact on how they view other races. Young children
are especially vulnerable to the information they are exposed to. TV is a vehicle to provide
experiences and information not otherwise available to them. Older audiences, however, are also
vulnerable to the information. Consistent messages about traits and stereotypes of other races
reinforce specific ideas to the adult viewer. Viewers aren t limited to racial bias when other races are
on the screen, but are also susceptible when races aren t included. As a strong and influential tool,
television uses both obvious and subtle racial bias to influence its viewers.
Television is a strong and influential tool. To first understand why television has a strong influence on
its viewer s, it is important to know some basic facts. According to Nielsen s National Television
Household Universe Estimates, there are 116.4 million TV homes in the U.S. prior to the start of the
2014 15 TV season. The number of persons age 2 and older in U.S. TV Households is estimated to be
296 million (Nielsen, 2014). This stat shows the enormous audience that TV and its messages

The Importance Of Work Place Culture And How It Has A...
People will typically be more enthusiastic where they feel a sense of belonging and see themselves as

business is successful, in the same way that Cameron and Quinn explained (2011) that some of today s

Another major factor is how the individuals will play a role in how the communication is received, for
example their role within the setting. This is supported by Tylor and Van Every (2000) when they
stress that with clear and concise communication between employees an organisation can emerge and
grow. Schins (1985) explained in his model that there are three basic levels of elements for culture ,
described as layers. One of these is artefacts which are the visible elements like uniform worn by staff
and children which shows a group presence and aides belonging, providing a sense of family,
furthermore there is organisational structure, the manager leading the setting with their values which
are fed down through the deputy to the early years practitioners, through strategies and goals set by
the manager, and any policies and procedures the setting follows. One of these is what the setting
stands for which is for all children to be happy and to achieve, another one is where the setting aims to
be in the future. Which in the case of early years is striving to achieve the highest grade with
OFSTED, if staff feel valued and confident in their work this will influence a more positive attitude in
their behaviour and feelings, and will want to achieve more as a whole.
Hofstede (1980) suggested that settings need to consider the individual values of the employees and
their personal values and they should be encouraged and not criticised to make a

Religion And Spirituality On The United States Of America...
Religion and spirituality have been complex issues in the United States of America. This is especially
true when it comes to Native Americans. Since the 16th century, contact between Native Americans
and Europeans has been filled with both good and bad. In this paper, the issue of religion and
spirituality and how they figure into the story of Indian European contact between the 16th and 21st
centuries will be discussed. The people of the Eastern Woodlands held beliefs about the human,
natural, and supernatural worlds. The people believed that there was no line between the human and
natural worlds. In some languages, animals were referred to as people. Humans were referred to as
extra people, or people people. They also believed there was no line between the natural and
supernatural worlds. They also had in their beliefs the idea of manitou. Manitou roughly translates to
spirit in English. They believed there was manitou in everything in the human, natural, and
supernatural worlds. They believed there was power in the natural world itself. In a reading done in
class, Farmers of the Woodlands, written by Peter Nabokov and Dean Snow, there is discussion of the
religious and spiritual beliefs of the people who lived in the Eastern Woodlands. For the Penobscot
bands, they had the spiritual belief of totems. These totems were animals. They believed the totems
were the ancestors to the people of the band. These totems linked them to the lands they lived, hunted,

Victorian Norms In Bram Stoker
Developing the inside versus outside tensions between England and Eastern Europe, Bram Stoker
challenges Victorian social norms. This tension is particularly evident when understanding the spread
of vampirism to be an invasion of England. Although this invasion is fantastical and not realistic, its
targets the legitimate Victorian fear of invasion. As an island nation close to other significant
European powers, England was able to escape many years of land invasions, but always had to remain
wary of the threat of a naval invasion. This fear of invasion is realized when Dracula launches a small
scale invasion of England. He enters by boat and proceeds to terrorize England through its women.
This idea of subliminally addressing the fears and desires of England is effective because Stoker
masks them in fantasy. Furthermore, this is effective because individuals in a culture act out certain
unconscious or repressed needs, or express in an overt and symbolic fashion certain latent motives
which they must give expression to, but cannot face openly (Cawelti, 11). Because this novel is a
fantasy, Stoker is able to challenge the social norms of the period within a popular work. Therefore,
aided by fantasy, Bram Stoker uses the contrast between Eastern and Western cultures to challenge
Victorian ideals and reveal the changing nature of gender roles and sexuality in British society.
The commentary on Victorian ideals stems from the differences between England and Transylvania.
While England was characterized by Protestantism, education, technological innovation, and Victorian
culture, Transylvania was entirely different with a dated technology and a balance between
Catholicism and more superstitious beliefs. These distinctly different cultures initially collide as
Harker travels to visit Count Dracula. As Harker moves further to the East, the mood shifts from
unfamiliarity to more evil and depressive. This is evident as he describes the darkness of his
surroundings as the road was cut through the pine woods that seemed in the darkness to be closing
down us, great masses of greyness produced a peculiarly weird and solemn effect (Stoker, 9). This
unfamiliarity and anxiety in Harker illustrates that he is entirely

Native American And European Interaction
Throughout the course of history there have been numerous accounts regarding Native American and
European interaction. From first contact to Indian removal, the interaction was somewhat of a roller
coaster ride, leading from times of peace to mini wars and rebellions staged by the Native American
tribes. The first part of this essay will briefly discuss the pre Columbian Indian civilizations in North
America and provide simple awareness of their cultures, while the second part of this essay will
explore all major Native American contact leading up to, and through, the American Revolution while
emphasizing the impact of Spanish, French, and English explorers and colonies on Native American
culture and vice versa. The third, and final, part of this essay will explore Native American interaction
after the American Revolution with emphasis on westward expansion and the Jacksonian Era leading
into Indian removal. Furthermore, this essay will attempt to provide insight into aspects of Native
American/European interaction that are often ignored such as: gender relations between European
men and Native American women, slavery and captivity of native peoples, trade between Native
Americans and European colonists, and the effects of religion on Native American tribes. By the
1500s, when Europeans first began arriving in North America, as many as 10 million Indians lived on

The Negative Representation of the East in E.M. Forster’s...
In this paper I would like to argue that E.M. Forster s A Passage to India has represented the East in a
negative way. This is a traditional novel for exploring themes of racism and the effects of colonialism.
It deals with the tensions between India and the Britain during the British Raj in India.
The theme which determines the plot line of this novel is introduced in the beginning through the
conversation of Hamidullah, Mahmoud Ali and Aziz as They were discussing as to whether or no it is
possible to be friends with an Englishman. (5) It is this question which is the focal point of the plot of
A Passage to India. Can the East meet the West on a plane where each not only tolerates but also
appreciates the other? E.K. Brown is his essay Rhythm in E.M. Forster s a Passage to India concludes
that such a friendship is virtually impossible especially in India.
Apart from quoting Brown s point of view I have quoted various other critics including Edward Said
and Benita Parry to substantiate my claim. The racist attitude of the British toward the native
population and the oppression of Indians can be seen through the cruelty of Major Callendar, who
brags of torturing an Indian by putting pepper on his wounds is the most outrageous example. But
there are many others from McBryde s views on Indian s lust for white women, to Mrs. Turton s foul
ranting, to Mr. Turton s arrogance and Ronny Heaslop s ignorance. All of them except Fielding

Cataracts Research Paper
Nahshon Brown

Human Anatomy 5th Period Cataracts
What is Cataracts if you may ask? A cataract is an eye disease in which the natural lens of the eye
gradually degrades the visual quality. The natural lens sits behind the colorful part of the eye known as
the iris in the area known as the pupil, which cannot be seen unless it becomes very cloudy. This is
crucial, because the lens plays a significant role in focusing a light on the retina at the back of the eye.
The retina turns light into a neurologic signal that the brains takes and then interprets it to be vision.
What cataracts do is block the light passing through the lens therefore causing visual symptoms ...

Secondary cataracts can be formed by if for example an eye was recently worked on for different eye
issues and diseases. Traumatic cataracts occur when a year after an event occurs and the eye is
damaged cataracts develops. It can occur from blunt trauma to the eye or from exposure of the eye to
alkaline chemicals. A congenital cataract is when a child is born with cataracts. Depending on the
genes, the inherited condition may be insignificant enough to the point where it does interfere with
vision. If the child s vision is disturbed the lens of the eye will be replaced with synthetic lens.
Congenital cataracts can also occur from specific illnesses or infections that the mother has during
pregnancy. Disorders such as Rubella and galactosemic increases the chances that your child will
acquire congenital cataracts. The last form of cataracts is radiation cataracts. This form of cataracts is
caused by an over exposure to ultraviolet sunlight and other forms of radiation. Exposure to sunlight
in a prolonged period of time doubles the risk of obtaining radiation cataracts. An interesting point I
found was that cataracts cannot spread from one eye to the other. The best way to prevent or try to
prevent cataracts from occurring is by doing and cutting back on many different things. Because
cataracts Is not completely preventable, you can at least delay its occurrence. You can try to quit
smoking, avoiding over exposure to sunlight, and avoid drinking excess

Criticism Of Medea
I cannot find one reason for divorcing theatrics from history why must history wear such a dry cloak
of dullness? I love theatre and you see its profound effects in my writing especially tragedy. History is
dramatized through speeches and conversations among the characters I portray, so much that people
have coined the term tragic history to encapsulate my works, in which I proudly claim ownership.
Euripedes has been thought to be a mediocre playwright but nonetheless determinedly produces more
plays. I have long admired his tenacity in being an innovator amidst a scene that constantly subjects
him to ridicule. With my status as a tragic historian as some may put it, I am in an informed position to
critique this play. My belief is that people accord him with less recognition than he actually deserves,
and I genuinely appreciate the ingenious tragic elements he incorporates to distinguish Medea from
other mainstream tragedies.

Small Business In The 20th Century
The Small Businesses of America in the 20th Century vs. Today
Small businesses in America have existed since civilizations first settled, whether people traded goods
in the place of currency, or offered services and talents for money. Over the past 100 years, the small
businesses and entrepreneurs of America have evolved in ways no one could have predicted. From the
invention of the internet to the sliding scale that is the American economy, small businesses have seen
their times of great success and struggle alike. With the changing culture, obstacles may morph into
opportunities, and, conversely, opportunities can be turned into obstacles. Small businesses today have
the opportunity to use social media as a marketing tool, but have the obstacle of demand; small
businesses in the early 20th century had the opportunity of demand, but had the obstacle of little
marketing resources; and small businesses of both time periods had the common obstacle of economic
fluctuations.
Unlike small businesses in the early 20th century, small businesses today can greatly benefit from
social media platforms. Not only can businesses run their own pages online, they can pay for ads that
promote their product in a unique and novel way. For example, social media can allow a smaller
business to grow on their chosen platform (such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and more) and
increase the amount of potential customers that view their product(s) or service(s). Everyday, there are

Numbers In Hinduism
Chapter 11: The Importance of Numbers in Hinduism
The scriptures state that numbers ranging from 0 to 10 have a symbolic importance for Hindus. They
are associated with some of the key principles and gods of the religion. According to historical
records, the Hindus developed the number system so they can systematically arrange their knowledge
regarding the gods and the theories of creation. This chapter will provide you with some examples as
to how numbers were used in Hindu ceremonies.
Thousands of years ago, Indian citizens were so religious. They worshipped and prayed to different
gods on a daily basis. They believed that the ultimate goal of a person s existence is to attain freedom
from the repetitive cycle of births and deaths. Also, they thought that withdrawal from the society and
abandonment of responsibilities were never needed to establish a relationship with the divine beings.
Happiness and wealth were important for Hindus but they didn t consider these as goals. They focused
their time and effort on achieving freedom from the illusions created by Maya. In order to attain this
liberation, they lived their lives and performed their tasks without any hint of passion. They consider
the gods as their saviors, guardians, guides, and witnesses. Because they needed to present their

Persecution just means bad treatment simply because of race, political, or religious beliefs. The area that has been hit over and over for some time is religious persecution. A very sad but true reality for many people having to hide to worship their beliefs. The most persecuted religion in the world may come to a shock to some people, but the most persecuted religion is Christianity. Followed by Islam, and third is Judaism. Christianity is the most popular religion in the United States, but is the least popular worldwide. To put it in perspective, Christians are persecuted in over 130 countries for just their beliefs. To add on to that, each month about 322 Christians are killed, along with that each month 214 Christian churches and properties are destroyed. Out of all the religions in the world, none are more persecuted than Christians, with all of this in mind it s something else when most people have no idea of this at all. Through several surveys I found that 7 out of 10 people thought that other religions such as Islam and Judaism are more persecuted than Christians. Why is it that as popular as Christianity is in the United States, that there is so little people that accurately know what is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Porfirio Diaz was able to control the people of Mexico for such an extensive amount of time due to his political system and the authority of his notorious Rurales. The Rurales were the government force of men used to patrol the Mexican Pueblos (valleys). If the Rurales caught people stealing, intoxicated, or disrespecting Diaz, they were either shot and killed immediately or sent to southern plantations as slave workers. During this time, life for the Mexican people was filled with poverty, fear, and hopelessness. The Mexican Revolution commenced as a movement of the middle class in 1910. • 4. The Twilight Sag Teenage, Vampire, Romance Twilight Saga: Teenage, Vampire, Romance The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Myer created a massive fan following that grew into a supernatural franchise. The story of Bella and Edward was in the hands of countless teenagers and adults alike, captivating audiences with the classic story of young love, but with a vampire twist. The books were published starting when I was a young teenager, and I was not immune to the charms of a sparkly vampire fighting his desire for love for the sake of her safety. I religious read all four books, a few times, until the hard covers cracked at the edges, and the open books fell open to my favorite parts from being opened for so long. After the books created a sensation, a movie series was created. In a non surprising fashion, the movies were popular, but as any book lover will tell you about any movie made after a book, the book was better, way better. Reading the story at the time, I ignored critics of the book, swearing by its love story and defending the text as it stood in my world. Re reading this book as an adult who has continued to read, I came to the realizations that my tastes have evolved over time. I still enjoyed the story during my re read this past time, but the writing was not as striking; gone was the passion and addiction so deep I could not set the books down. • 5. Isolation In Stephanie Meyer s Twilight Deeper Into the Twilight Modern vampire interpretations are supposed to be relatable or desired, they are no longer supposed to be feared. Stephanie Meyer s book series Twilight is one of the most popular teenage vampire interpretations. The vampire characters within the movie are metaphors for the teenager. It is common for teenagers to feel isolated from their surroundings and the people around them. The Cullen s in the movie are automatically isolated from the rest of the town because they are the newest citizens and live outside of the town isolated from everyone else. When Bella Swan invited Edward Cullen to come to the beach with her group of friends he declined feeling like he would not be wanted there. One of the characters, Angela, had this to say while they were at the beach, It was nice that Bella invited Edward, nobody ever does. This is what Mike had to say in response, That s because Cullen is a freak. The other male characters in the scene chimed in with their agreement on his comment. • 6. The Limits Of Growth ( Tltg ) Introduction At the time it was written, The Limits to Growth (TLTG) was groundbreaking in its modeling, analysis and subsequent predictions of future trends. It is a policy paper pushing for sustainable development, coupled with technological modernisation. This essay will examine TLTG through an ecocentric lens. First, this paper will briefly summarise ecocentrism. Second, it will discuss TLTG and its findings in a contemporary context. It will be argued that TLTG ultimately failed in its ambition, because it utilised a discourse system that did not address key systematic causes of resource depletion. TLTG recognises human s overconsumption and disregard for the Earth s finite resources as a cause of exponential growth. However, it very much focuses on the survival of people rather than the Earth s intrinsic value. An ecocentric perspective argues that each fragment of the Earth has an intangible value and should be treated accordingly; a concept that TLTG does not address. An ecocentric perspective has the propensity to halt the over exploitation that occurs at such an alarming rate. Ecocentrism should be applied on a systemic, domestic and individual level to avoid the Earth s further degradation. Indeed, this would require the re structuring of capitalism. Subsequently, a seemingly radical and alternative discourse system is needed to dominate policy documents such as TLTG. This essay does not suggest that ecocentric perspectives would be successful in creating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Crimes Of Pygmy Case Summary Question One Cephu had committed many crimes, one being what is probably one of the most heinous crimes in Pygmy eyes, and one that rarely occurs. His first and less major sin was to refuse to share and participate with the other hunters and families. He had gone off to make a camp and fire of his own, even though the group was supposed to be working together and had a mutualistic relationship. His other crime was the major one and what everyone in the camp had been waiting for. Not only did he name a dead woman, an unheard offense but also he denied that she was his mother. Even though there was only the most distant relationship, and that by marriage, it was equivalent to asserting that he did not belong to the same group as Ekianga and Manyalibo and the rest. Even though Cephu had committed a heinous crime, the case was settled simply and effectively. He was ignored and not offered a chair and had his food taken away from him and was ignored by the men in his camp. All of these actions may seem small but in the eyes of a Pygmy, none of these actions/punishments were quickly forgotten. Kelemoke had also committed a very serious crime; he had committed the crime of incest. Kelemoke tried to take refuge in a hut, but he was turned away with angry remarks, and a burning log was thrown after him. Women s Gender And Gender Roles In terms of the heterosexual majority, respectability applied deeply to women and their gender roles as wives, because it was the way to distinguish between good and oversexed women (Kushner 9/25/15). The characteristics of women consisted of being pious, pure and religious, as they were the moral superiors to men (Kushner, 9/25/15). This moral superiority linked to the idea that Cott presents of female passionlessness, which was the result of subsequent lack of sexual aggressiveness (Cott 1987: 220). Passionlessness however was not simply a gendered characteristic it played a vital sexual as the controlling factor over hyper sexual husbands (Cott 1978: 235). The very structure of Victorian marriages relied on women s passionlessness because it supported women s demure and respectable nature in society, while also keeping men under control and containing sexuality to the home (Kushner, 9/25/15). • 22. The Mexican State Of Coahuila Y Tejas American settlement in Texas began with the encouragement of first the Spanish, and then Mexican, governments. In the summer of 1820 Moses Austin, a bankrupt 59 year old Missourian, asked Spanish authorities for a large Texas land tract which he would promote and sell to American pioneers. The request by Austin seemed preposterous. His background was that of a Philadelphia dry goods merchant, a Virginia mine operator, a Louisiana judge, and a Missouri banker. But early in 1821, the Spanish government gave him permission to settle 300 families in Texas. Spain welcomed the Americans for two reasons to provide a buffer against illegal U.S. settlers, who were creating problems in east Texas even before the grant was made to Austin, and to help develop the land, since only 3,500 native Mexicans had settled in Texas which was part of the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas. Texas or Tejas as the Mexicans called it had technically been a part of the Spanish empire since the 17th century. However, even as late as the 1820s, there were only about 3,000 Spanish Mexican settlers in Texas, and Mexico City s hold on the territory was tenuous at best. After winning its own independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico welcomed large numbers of Anglo American immigrants into Texas in the hopes they would become loyal Mexican citizens and keep the territory from falling into the hands of the United States. • 23. The Death Penalty Is The Ineffective And Expensive Process... Introduction: The ongoing problem of the death penalty system in California is the ineffective and expensive process between sentencing and executing. The Death Penalty Information Center (DPIC), a national non profit organization serving the media and the public with analysis and information on issues concerning capital punishment, published the total numbers of death row inmates by states on July 1, 2016. From the data, California has the largest death rows in America. There are 741 inmates on death row in California. The next is 396 in Florida and 254 in Texas. However, there are just 13 executed prisons in California since the reinstatement of death penalty in 1978. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), operating all prisons and parole systems in California, published a document to analyze the time of execution. According to the statistics, the average time served on death row is 17.9 years and the average age at time of execution is 49 years old. A typical example is Clarence Ray Allen, who had been convicted in 1982, but he has not been executed until 2006. After the execution, one of the victims family members claimed that it has taken 23 years but justice has prevailed today. Mr. Allen abused the justice system with endless appeals until he lived longer in prison than the short 17 years of Josephine s life ( Clarence Ray Allen Summary 4). The case of Allen reflects that most of the prisons stay on the death row for more than two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Biography Of John Singer Sargent s Life John Singer Sargent began his life in Florence, Italy, on January 12th, 1856, and he grew up abroad, as his parents became expatriates, leaving behind their home in Philadelphia to enjoy living and travelling through Europe. It was because of this that Sargent s education was somewhat unconventional, for his study was mostly informal, and this may have contributed to his singular personality. Sargent s early exposure to European art and culture certainly had a profound effect on him, and he was able to converse readily in French, German, and Italian through his travels. The knowledge he gained through his life abroad proved to be quite helpful throughout his career, and this exposure to such diversity would later become evident in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the best examples of Sargent s early style is his dramatic painting of 1882, El Jaleo, where his emulation of Velázquez use of light and color is especially apparent (Fig 1). Possibly the painting in which Velázquez influence is most obvious, however, is the painting The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit of 1882 (Fig 2). Its candid arrangement, subjects, vast shadows, luminosity, and muted colors bring to mind Velázquez renowned painting Las Meninas (Fig. 3). Although Sargent was creating and studying art during the 19th century art movement of Impressionism, his art did not reflect this exposure, apart from some of his early works, and it is not generally considered Impressionist; nevertheless, certain of his artistic elements do show that there was some effect on his style from the artists of his time. One such characteristic of the Impressionist movement is Sargent s compositional arrangements that are somewhat candid. Additionally, a prominent feature of Sargent s art is his fascination with and masterful handling of light. Light was one of the principles that was of greatest importance in Impressionist art, and their art was in reaction to the reflex of light, either real or imaginary. This definition of one of the aesthetic principles of Impressionism truly encapsulates the work of Sargent, for, even in his earliest art, his attention to light, its source real or fairly ... • 25. The Effects Of Media On The Media Influences Viewers Racial Bias in the Media Influences Viewers Television reaches more consumers for more time than any other source of media. Its use for entertainment or news is overly influential, persuasive, and authoritative. Through these characteristics, any type of information or message influences its massive audience. Because of this, what Americans see or fail to see has a powerful impact on how they view other races. Young children are especially vulnerable to the information they are exposed to. TV is a vehicle to provide experiences and information not otherwise available to them. Older audiences, however, are also vulnerable to the information. Consistent messages about traits and stereotypes of other races reinforce specific ideas to the adult viewer. Viewers aren t limited to racial bias when other races are on the screen, but are also susceptible when races aren t included. As a strong and influential tool, television uses both obvious and subtle racial bias to influence its viewers. Television is a strong and influential tool. To first understand why television has a strong influence on its viewer s, it is important to know some basic facts. According to Nielsen s National Television Household Universe Estimates, there are 116.4 million TV homes in the U.S. prior to the start of the 2014 15 TV season. The number of persons age 2 and older in U.S. TV Households is estimated to be 296 million (Nielsen, 2014). This stat shows the enormous audience that TV and its messages ... People will typically be more enthusiastic where they feel a sense of belonging and see themselves as member of a community, in comparison to a workplace in which each person is left to their own devices Kohn (1999 pg. 188). This outlines that when people have a sense of belonging they will thrive, and demonstrates the importance of work place culture and how it has a large influence on if a business is successful, in the same way that Cameron and Quinn explained (2011) that some of today s successful firms have developed a distinctive culture that is identifiable by its employees, for example Disney. This is especially true when it comes to Native Americans. Since the 16th century, contact between Native Americans and Europeans has been filled with both good and bad. In this paper, the issue of religion and spirituality and how they figure into the story of Indian European contact between the 16th and 21st centuries will be discussed. The people of the Eastern Woodlands held beliefs about the human, natural, and supernatural worlds. The people believed that there was no line between the human and natural worlds. In some languages, animals were referred to as people. Humans were referred to as extra people, or people people. They also believed there was no line between the natural and supernatural worlds. They also had in their beliefs the idea of manitou. Manitou roughly translates to spirit in English. They believed there was manitou in everything in the human, natural, and supernatural worlds. They believed there was power in the natural world itself. In a reading done in class, Farmers of the Woodlands, written by Peter Nabokov and Dean Snow, there is discussion of the religious and spiritual beliefs of the people who lived in the Eastern Woodlands. • 29. Victorian Norms In Bram Stoker Developing the inside versus outside tensions between England and Eastern Europe, Bram Stoker challenges Victorian social norms. This tension is particularly evident when understanding the spread of vampirism to be an invasion of England. Although this invasion is fantastical and not realistic, its targets the legitimate Victorian fear of invasion. As an island nation close to other significant European powers, England was able to escape many years of land invasions, but always had to remain wary of the threat of a naval invasion. This fear of invasion is realized when Dracula launches a small scale invasion of England. He enters by boat and proceeds to terrorize England through its women. This idea of subliminally addressing the fears and desires of England is effective because Stoker masks them in fantasy. Furthermore, this is effective because individuals in a culture act out certain unconscious or repressed needs, or express in an overt and symbolic fashion certain latent motives which they must give expression to, but cannot face openly (Cawelti, 11). Because this novel is a fantasy, Stoker is able to challenge the social norms of the period within a popular work. Therefore, aided by fantasy, Bram Stoker uses the contrast between Eastern and Western cultures to challenge Victorian ideals and reveal the changing nature of gender roles and sexuality in British society. The commentary on Victorian ideals stems from the differences between England and Transylvania. While England was characterized by Protestantism, education, technological innovation, and Victorian culture, Transylvania was entirely different with a dated technology and a balance between Catholicism and more superstitious beliefs. These distinctly different cultures initially collide as Harker travels to visit Count Dracula. As Harker moves further to the East, the mood shifts from unfamiliarity to more evil and depressive. This is evident as he describes the darkness of his surroundings as the road was cut through the pine woods that seemed in the darkness to be closing down us, great masses of greyness produced a peculiarly weird and solemn effect (Stoker, 9). This unfamiliarity and anxiety in Harker illustrates that he is entirely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a traditional novel for exploring themes of racism and the effects of colonialism. It deals with the tensions between India and the Britain during the British Raj in India. The theme which determines the plot line of this novel is introduced in the beginning through the conversation of Hamidullah, Mahmoud Ali and Aziz as They were discussing as to whether or no it is possible to be friends with an Englishman. (5) It is this question which is the focal point of the plot of A Passage to India. Can the East meet the West on a plane where each not only tolerates but also appreciates the other? E.K. Brown is his essay Rhythm in E.M. Forster s a Passage to India concludes that such a friendship is virtually impossible especially in India. Apart from quoting Brown s point of view I have quoted various other critics including Edward Said and Benita Parry to substantiate my claim. The racist attitude of the British toward the native population and the oppression of Indians can be seen through the cruelty of Major Callendar, who brags of torturing an Indian by putting pepper on his wounds is the most outrageous example. But there are many others from McBryde s views on Indian s lust for white women, to Mrs. Turton s foul ranting, to Mr. Turton s arrogance and Ronny Heaslop s ignorance. A cataract is an eye disease in which the natural lens of the eye gradually degrades the visual quality. The natural lens sits behind the colorful part of the eye known as the iris in the area known as the pupil, which cannot be seen unless it becomes very cloudy. This is crucial, because the lens plays a significant role in focusing a light on the retina at the back of the eye. The retina turns light into a neurologic signal that the brains takes and then interprets it to be vision. Traumatic cataracts occur when a year after an event occurs and the eye is damaged cataracts develops. It can occur from blunt trauma to the eye or from exposure of the eye to alkaline chemicals. A congenital cataract is when a child is born with cataracts. Depending on the genes, the inherited condition may be insignificant enough to the point where it does interfere with vision. If the child s vision is disturbed the lens of the eye will be replaced with synthetic lens. Congenital cataracts can also occur from specific illnesses or infections that the mother has during pregnancy. Disorders such as Rubella and galactosemic increases the chances that your child will acquire congenital cataracts. The last form of cataracts is radiation cataracts. This form of cataracts is caused by an over exposure to ultraviolet sunlight and other forms of radiation. Exposure to sunlight in a prolonged period of time doubles the risk of obtaining radiation cataracts. An interesting point I found was that cataracts cannot spread from one eye to the other.
