The Characteristics Of Kathleen OConnell s Odile For Odette
I ve also wondered just what, exactly, Siegfried is guilty of. But I think that if he genuinely mistakes
Odile for Odette, that still could be considered a moral lapse. Kathleen O Connell makes that point in
the passage quoted, but doesn t see it realized in stagings. For me, it is there, in the traditional staging,
though perhaps requires the audience give some thought to what is happening. Siegfried should be
able to make the distinction between the two figures, especially given the archetypal weight the ballet
gives them. And he should not, say, behave like a ballet fan, who loses her/his head at the sight of 32
fouettes . I don t think it takes two different ballerinas dancing Odette/Odile to make this point.
In fact, it should be at least somewhat hard to tell them apart that s what makes it a kind of moral test.
If the two women are no more similar than Swanilda and Coppelia than Siegfried is just a dolt like
Franz. It could be done with two ballerinas, but it s subtler with one... But let s say Siegfried makes no
real error because he has simply been enchanted by Rothbart Something like that happens in the Ring
Wagner s Siegfried betrays Brunhilde because of a magic potion. Yet Siegfried s error in Wagner still
seems to bear a kind of moral/historical weight even if only Brunhilde really grasps it. The idea that an
idle/unintended mistake can have serious not to say tragic consequences IS sometimes a serious theme
in art. Somehow one is responsible

Rose Colored Dance Analysis
Most spectators would distinguish various forms throughout Rose Colored Dance , particularly ovals,
rectangles, and a multitude of lines targeted at a focal point (linear perspective). The most evident
feature is the symmetrical flower, centered at the intersection of the lines and placed in the foreground.
Descending the stem is black white photographs, where portraits substitute the 3 heads on the
surrounding birds. Likewise, the images contrast to the red and white hues in the shapes. On both
sides of the canvas, two proportionate and identical rectangles are in the background, while below are
two ovals containing women figurines. Both of these shaded silhouettes is mirrored, placed proximally
to the midpoint and their heads are covered

Tense Present Democracy, English, And The Wars Over Usage
Summary of Tense Present Democracy, English, and the Wars over Usage Published in April of 2001
by Harper s Magazine, David Foster Wallace s essay is both a review of A Dictionary of Modern
Usage by Bryan A. Garner and an interjection into the present day Usage Wars. Wallace s thesis for his
essay is stated after a list of grammatical errors that are overlooked on a daily basis and a few
paragraphs defining SNOOT. His thesis states, Issues of tradition vs. egalitarianism in U.S. English
are at root political issues and can be effectively addressed only in what this article hereby terms a
Democratic Spirit. A Democratic Spirit is an attitude a person can have only by being fervent in
his/her beliefs while also recognizing and respecting the beliefs of another. After sorting out what
constitutes a Democratic Spirit and how to maintain such an attitude the author questions who has the
authority to write a dictionary and, thus, determine which words go into the book and which words are
left on the wayside. Wallace praises Garner for his full discloser statement, which acknowledges
Garner s principles and gives background information to his text. Next, in his essay, Wallace notes
Garner s use of Ethical Appeal. The use of ethos, Wallace says, is refreshing because it is hardly ever
used in dictionary. Most dictionaries are political battle ground in a war that is fought between the
Prescriptivists (linguistic conservatives) and the Descriptivists (linguistic

Film Analysis Of Sunset Boulevard
Sunset Boulevard, directed by Billy Wilder features some very legendary and prominent actors as well
as directors which helps make this film and instant classic. What makes this movie so unique is that
there are both actors and directors in the movie who play themselves. The film stars notable actors and
actresses such as Gloria Swanson, William Holden, Buster Keaton, Hedda Hopper, and Anna Q.
Nilsson. It also features two very prominent directors, Erich von Stroheim and the infamous Cecil B.
DeMille. The actors and actresses seemed to be made for these roles and help turn this movie into a
classic. The over the top acting done by Gloria Swanson, the overly, flamboyant setting, and the
musical score by Franz Waxman all help contribute to make this film a classic.
Sunset Boulevard stars Gloria Swanson who plays a washed up silent movie star (Norma Desmond)
which was not too much of a far stretch for her since she had in fact been a silent movie star back in
her heyday. It also stars William Holden who plays a has been writer down on his luck (Joe Gillis)
who just happens to land himself in Norma Desmond s home. While sidetracked at her home, Joe
decides to help her redo the script she had written. She offers him a place to stay while helping her
with her script, he reluctantly agrees. She falls for him and the feeling isn t exactly mutual but he
realizes that being a kept man might not be such a bad gig. It is clear that they both need one another,

smoothly.
Functional Requirements: It describes an interaction between the system and its environment. In
which the functional requirements must correct, complete, consistent and unambiguous.
Non Functional Requirements: It refers to the constraints or restrictions on the system. It contain many
requirements such as resource usage, availability, cost and delivery data, and technology to be used,

Nike Social Responsibility Essay
CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility is a very important keyword for companies these days.
Consumers are being more and more aware and conscious about where their clothes come from and
how they are made. Consumers also put a lot of thought into where their food comes from, and how it
has been produced and treated before it is served at the dinner table. With other words, consumers are
demanding better quality and greater responsibility from the companies, than ever before. The
consumers of the companies have never demanded as much as they do today from them, and never
have companies needed put so much thought in their supply chains and to take this much
responsibility for their production and their products. But improving sustainability ... Show more

They had to step up their game and change it. Nike started off by moving past the labor issues. Simon

financing initiatives to improve worker conditions in global supply chains . Nike started some
campaigns which put a focus on important crisis or issues. Their Lace Up, Save Lives campaign, and
their Girl effect campaign boosted consumers believe in Nike improving themselves. By starting those
campaigns and initiatives Nike reversed their current situation and changed their consumers view in
the company. They regained their brand and made it even stronger, which led to regaining their
consumer s trust. They were now able to reverse their situation and to get people s attention away
from the child labor shitstorm that had been going on. They did this by reaching out to their
consumers and showing that they actually care about sustainability, being environmentally friendly,
and that they realized, that they have a responsibly as a company. This had a positive effect on their

Summary Of Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History
Oppression. It is the driving force behind many of the largest alterations in American history. African
Americans were oppressed due to their history of being kept as slaves even after this practice was
halted, the toxic remains of a society unwilling to recognize them as equals endured. Women faced a
similar hardship as gender roles forced them into lives of service. They devoted their time to caring for
their homes and husbands, even at the expense of their own potential careers and educations. Both of
these groups yearned to break these expectations. Women and African Americans desired the freedom
possessed by the white male. Malcolm X, author of Literacy Behind Bars , chronicled this struggle to
overcome the limitations placed on him due to his race. Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, author of Well
Behaved Women Seldom Make History , recorded instances of women retaliating against these
beliefs. Both Malcolm X and Ulrich propagate a message of self reliance through their individual
implementations of connotative diction, details, and anecdotes. Immediately, connotative diction is
used by both Malcolm X and Ulrich to incite pathos. For example, a majority of Malcolm X s work
was focused on detailing his struggles. He describes his initial writing as slow, painstaking, [and]
ragged (641). In the time period which Malcolm X lived, it was uncommon for an African American
to possess an education. Before the emancipation of slaves across America, many of these humans had

Spider Woman Worldview Research Paper
Owen James The indigenous worldview was very holistic. They believed that everything was in
balance, including male and female power, and everything was sacred. These views are reflected in
the creation stories When Jesus came, the corn maidens left and the sacred pipe . In the corn maiden s
story, everything is in perfect balance and society is functioning until a priest inappropriately touches
one of the maiden s. Outraged by this, the maiden s go away and let the people go into famine, as a
way to make sure everyone knows that they are not to be seen sexually (Gutierrez). The story of spider
woman provides that there is a collaborative effort in creation stories (Serinity Young 225). There
weren t only male deities; there were female deities as well. So, this is empowering to women. This
worldview defined women as equal parts to men. Women were all holy and sacred beings. Power was
spread out differently but between men and women it was all balanced. Women held a big role in
society. According to European intellectuals , women holding power was primitive (Women Religious
Traditions 142). Women in this society were healers. This includes mind, body and spirit (Women
Religious Traditions 145). Women were also close to God, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

were not discriminated against at all. In fact, they were seen as twice gifted and having talents and
insights that heterosexual people didn t have (Women Religious Traditions 153). Women were
compensated for their sexual activity with men. If a woman decided to have sex with a man, he would

Writing Is Defined As Fun
In my opinion, writing is defined as fun, a way to be creative and a way to help me clear my mind. It
allows me to express my own individuality. Writing may be known as a bore to others who cant seem
to find their own writing style, but if you have that gift of writing it comes easy no matter what subject
or topic. That s where my liking for writing comes in. I ve always been able to take a topic and write
about it without any problems. Once my brain gets going, its hard to stop.
Several years ago, I found my passion for writing. I was sitting in English class, the lights dimmed and
everyone starring into the teachers soul as she explained an writing assignment we had to do. She told
us to make up a story about what we thought the future was going to be like when we became adults.
At first, the topic didn t interest me. I felt as if the future was going to be the same as it was at that
time. I didn t know what to write. It was way too cold in the class and the scents of pumpkin pie and
sweaty gym socks surrounding the air didn t seem to help the situation much either. After a few
minutes of thinking, so many ideas popped in my head, I didn t know how to control it. I started
jotting down everything that came to mind, then I went back to organize it so I could start writing.
Once my teacher seen what I was doing, she asked Who taught you this technique? I told her it s just
something I ve always done, she then told me that s a good technique to have and that it ll

Lending a Helping Hand Essay
Lending a Helping Hand
There have always been organizations that provide help for the needy. Now the economy is going
through a downward spiral giving these institutions a greater importance in helping the lives of those
who need it. Miami County residents have seen firsthand that some people who live in this area really
need the help. The statistical evidence shows that Miami County, Indiana is being affected by the
economy. The average salary of a resident in Peru, Indiana ends up being $28,487. (Indiana) That
number may not seem profound, but when you have a family to support, the budget gets tight. The
normal wage annually for a resident in the state of Indiana is $45,434. (Indiana) That makes it roughly

Yet, hunger only makes up for a small part of the complications that poverty brings. Without enough
money, how does someone suppose to afford to live in a house? Though most Miami County residents
do not see homeless people, does not hide the fact we have people living without a home. Peru is not a
big city like New York, or Los Angeles, but no matter where you are at in America, there will always
be those who cannot afford to rent or own any type of housing.
Even if everyone could afford some type of housing to live in, it does not mean they can afford all the
necessary utilities. Air conditioning is not a necessity, but someone might not have enough money to
provide a fan. The cost for utilities such as electricity for a fan to keep the cool in the summer heat, or
simply having running water might be a problem for someone with little to no income. With winter
approaching even some people will have to go without heat in the Miami County area.
Helping Hands is a Non Government and Non Profit organization in Miami County. Hershel Manhart
was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul in Peru when he began to do research to determine if there was
a need for a food pantry. He started his research in 2000 and within two years determined there was
definitely a need for one. Helping Hands was founded in 2002 by Hershel. (Manhart) It is run by
volunteers from the area and provides many solutions to the dilemmas of poverty. Some of the

Hong Kong.
The Harbin Institute of Technology is in the C9 League (the top 9 universities in China), Chinese

universities in China, HIT places great focus upon the cultivation of mathematical ability and the
development of an engineering mindset. This is reflected in many aspects of an education at HIT: HIT
has higher standards for students in mathematics curricula, such as requiring mathematical analysis for
engineering instead of merely calculus, and some course designs include calculation by programming,
for instance, the calculation of implied volatility of option. Therefore, I have a sound base in

Rosencrantz Exile
When one is exiled from home, it is a terrifying, lonely experience. When two are exiled from home, it
becomes something much greater. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern do not have a specific place they call
home in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. If they did, they probably would not remember it.
Their home is their experience with and understanding of the world around them. Yet, they are exiled
from this home. They are never fully able to understand the world around them and have to face the
consequences of this. Exile is an enriching experience for them, helping them learn more about the
world. On the other hand, exile is alienating, and it takes away their ability to distinguish reality and
their sense of control. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern repeatedly experience one truth: those that have
not experienced exile cannot truly understand its consequences. In the first scene of the play, the

that our classic car s braking system provides adequate (safe) braking.
Also, considering that airbags and the standard safety features we find in today s vehicles are simply
absent in classic cars, appropriate awareness and precautions must therefore be exercised when
driving in a classic vehicle with family or children.
Conclusion
We think we ve safely dismissed the notion that classic vehicles are not mechanically reliable as they
tend to be driven less than modern vehicles, while having just as much or more care applied to them
by diligent owners.
Additionally, we concluded that the classic vehicles were held to the safety standards that were in
place at the time of their manufacture, so by and large, are safe.
This being said, as classic cars tend to be driven less frequently, less aggressively, driven during
daylight hours, less far and during better weather, the classic car mishaps tend to be few and far
between.
All in all, from the mechanics and brakes, to the seatbelts, we believe that if you have a classic car on
your hands they tend to be reliable and safe.

Today, modern society is experience more and more of a disconnect from the real world as we connect
more and more to the online world. People send text messages more than they call, and friends across
the world can interact in a matter of seconds, if not instantly. As society continues to modernize, we
experience the same sort of falling out with the natural order of things that authors near the turn of the
century felt as their culture changed. T.S. Eliot, Joseph Conrad, and D.H. Lawrence are only three
such authors to put pen to paper to explore this deracination. Eliot s The Waste Land, Conrad s Heart
of Darkness, and Lawrence s The Rocking Horse Winner explore the idea that modern life and society

Though the garbage is not in the river itself, it still surrounds the speaker to the extent that it is in the
speaker s consciousness. In addition, in the ambiguous scene between the typist and the clerk, the
typist is [h]ardly aware of her departed lover and is only glad it s over (13), suggesting that the typist
has removed herself from the link between physical relations and affection, which is most likely a
result of modernization. In Conrad s Heart of Darkness, Marlow views the people of Africa as being
other, due to the separation that imperialism and industrialization has created between Europe and
Africa. For example, he sees the Africans as unhappy savages (16), because they have not had the
advantages that industrialization has brought Europe. As Marlow travels down the river to where
Kurtz is stationed, he remarks, Well, you know that was the worst of this suspicion of their not being
inhuman (36). This revelation unnerves Marlow, as he finds it difficult to come to terms with the
thought of [his] remote kinship with people he deems savages. Marlow has had no connection to the
people in Africa as actual people, and when he does see a glimpse of their humanity reminding him of
that link, he seems to have to justify it to himself And why not? The mind of man is capable of
anything...he must at least be as much of a man as these on the shore (36). In The Rocking Horse
Winner, Lawrence explores the

Let Students Listen To Music In Schools
This solution can be put into action in many ways. One way is for schools to let students listen to
music in study halls or other times throughout the day that they are allowed to work on homework.
This can cause students to be more productive and study more efficiently. A second way is that
teachers can play quiet, background music in their classrooms while students take tests. This can
create some background noise so it is not extremely silent in the class because too much silence can
sometimes be distracting to students. It will also ease some of the nerves that they may have while
taking the test. A third way to put music into schools is to use songs that help teach a certain subject
that a class may be studying. An example of this would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A final way that schools could allow music to be a bigger part of their day would be making time for
students to just listen to music and relax. This can take a large amount of the stress of a day at school
off of them and they will be able to focus and learn better by simply being more relaxed. A fourth way
is to make it a requirement for students to take some type of music class in order to graduate. If music
is required, all students will have to take it for at least a year or semester and see many of the benefits
that can come from it. If they really enjoy the class, they will probably continue to take it and keep
performing well in other subjects too. As all of these examples show, one can clearly see that music
can be introduced into schools in multiple different ways. Schools should really consider trying and
using some of these techniques in order to improve the learning environment for their students and
help them to perform at higher academic levels. If students are earning better grades, it represents
schools well and shows that they are doing a good job of teaching their

Analysis Of No Country For Old Men And Stagecoach
The question is whether No Country for Old Men and Stagecoach provide adequate examples of the
decline in American moral values. From my perspective of today s world and my interpretation of No
Country for Old Men and Stagecoach, I can see how the argument could be made that they have
declined or haven t changed at all. I see a difference between the relationship of Ringo and Dallas vs
other members of their traveling group compared to Sheriff Bell vs Chigurh. These relationships, in
my opinion, explains a lot about the development of moral values, or lack of, in the western United
States. In this paper, I will describe the moral values that are represented in each movie and I will also
try to describe my understanding of why American moral values may have declined between No
Country for Old Men and Stagecoach. Beginning with Ringo, his entire character is based on the a
morally gray area. He escapes jail for a crime he hasn t committed, in order to get revenge for the
murder of his father and brother. Is this the right thing to do? Should Ringo get revenge by killing the
people that murdered his family? To me this is a attempt to gain equality. To drag the Plummer s
brothers down to his level. From my interpretation, he feels his life or wellbeing is lowered because
his removal from society because he s was in jail and later on the run from the law. And again, from
my interpretation, he views his path to redemption as a way to lessen the lives and wellbeing of the

Theme Of Individualism In Walt Whitman s Leaves Of Grass
Individualism is important. This statement is made clear in Walt Whitman s book, Leaves of Grass,
published in 1855. Leaves of Grass is a poetry collection composed in the nineteenth century, during
the Westward Expansion. Contrary to popular poetic style in that period, Whitman wrote in free verse,
meaning there was little to no rhyming or tempo. Individualism is a theme that sets the tone of
Whitman s poems. Whitman uses the literary devices of repetition, asyndeton, imagery, and conflict to
create the idea of individualism to set the tone. The repetition present in Whitman s works contributes
significantly to the theme of his poems. Repetition can be used to emphasize differences; moreover, it
can stress the individuality of every person. Whitman s work, I Hear America Singing, is an example
of emphasizing differences, with lines 2 4 being, Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should
be blithe and strong, /The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam, /The mason singing
his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,... Singing what belongs to them, each has a unique
song that only appertains to them. Similarities do appear in the repetition of Whitman s works,
revealing that this literary device can create an effect of resemblance between ideas. Taken from O
Me! O Life! is lines 2 3, Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill d with the foolish, /Of
myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish

Soccer Vs Football Compare And Contrast
Soccer vs. Football
Soccer and Football have long been high class sports with ample amount of respect and dignity,
groomed through history. Regulations and guidelines have been set in stone and shifted throughout the
course of competition. Safety is key in both recreational sports and has become essential for the
protection of the people that participate. Stylistically the two sports contain a different overall goal,
however the techniques vary. From a beginners point of view the sports seem derived from a primary
source, however in the overall scheme they differentiate through many different loop holes. These
differences will be depicted throughout the essay, allowing the reader to grasp a better understanding
of the sports as a whole. In reality soccer and football are extremely similar, yet diverse in many ways.
Historically speaking these sports derived from one another, if soccer was none existent there would

The official rules of soccer were founded in England ( A Brief History of Soccer ). Although we are
not sure when or how it originated, evidence dating back nearly three thousand years ago in China
shows that a small fur stuffed leather ball was used as the official game piece of a purely foot based
activity with the overall objective being to score into opposite teams net likely known as Tsu Chu. The
brutality of the sport grew over time as the games overall principles were toyed with, causing more
injuries and controversy with higher powers in England, during the ruling of King Edward, resulting
in expulsion and arrest if caught participating in the sport ( A Brief History of Soccer ). Hundreds of
years later the popularity in the sport had grown tremendously in England, allowing teams to be
formed in schools. Soon after, the Americans started to

The Environmental Impact Of The Fast Fashion Industry
Fashion is a clear reflection of the social, economic, political and cultural period. More and more
people are becoming concerned with their style and more importantly, how it affects their wallet. This
mindset has paved the way for the fast fashion industry to flourish. Fast fashion is clothing [being
produced] at increasingly low prices, prices so low that many consumers consider this clothing to be
disposable... the clothing equivalent of fast food. (Claudio) Consumers are so caught up on the fact
that they are getting a bargain, that they totally disregard the uncomfortable reality surrounding the
dark side of mass consumer fashion. The fast fashion industry has created a culture of mindless
consumerism.
One of the many things, people are unaware of, that is attached to fast fashion, is its environmental
impact. People are completely willing to turn a blind eye to the fact that this business is the second
most polluting industry in the world in order to be trendy. The first, and most obvious environmental
impact of the fashion industry is its pollution of water by the use of harmful, toxic chemicals, dyes,
and detergents. The textile industry uses more than 8,000 [types of] chemicals annually, (Scott). Some
of which, are carcinogenic for both people and animals. In fact, the World Health Organization reports
that in China, polluted water causes 75 percent of diseases and over 100,000 deaths annually. This
information about the materials used in their products is

Twelve Jurors In The Film 12 Angry Men
The film 12 Angry Men opens up the scene of twelve jurors in a court case where a young boy was
accused of murdering his father. The jurors move to an empty conference room in order to discuss the
boys trial and contemplate the trial. With a show of hands, eleven out of the twelve claim that the boy
is guilty without looking deeply analyzing the case. Only one juror, juror 9, who was an architect, had
reasonable doubt that the boy could actually be innocent. Throughout the film, juror 9 must convince
the other eleven jurors that the boy is actually innocent, starting a debate between the jurors. The
purpose of this argument reveals that despite the fact that juror 9 was out numbered, one to eleven, he
was able to come up with supportive evidence

The Administrative Principles of Management
The administrative principles of management, created in the early 20th century by French industrialist
Henri Fayol, changed the way that many view management. Fayol s principles focused mainly on the
management teams of businesses and helped establish a top to bottom hierarchal system to produce a
more structured organization (Brunsson, 2008; Yoo, Lemak, Choi, 2008; Fells, 2000). This essay will
focus on four of the 14 key principles of administrative theory unity of command, subordination of
individual interest for the interest of the organization, esprit de corp. and remuneration and analyze
how they have been applied in a leading New Zealand company, Pumpkin Patch Limited (Ltd.)
(Samson Daft, 2009, p.64; Wren, Bedian, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it has been adapted from Fayol s original idea, subordination of individual interest of
general interest, it is still present in Pumpkin Patch Ltd.
In a company that is downsizing, and even when it is not, Esprit de Corp is a principle that plays a
major factor in contemporary organizations today. Esprit de Corp is when a business creates, and
maintains, employee harmony, unity and morale (Fells, 2000; Rodrigues, 2001). This allows for a
happy working environment, and a happy employee means that they are more likely to achieve
productivity and efficiency outcomes. Pumpkin Patch Ltd. has adapted this to fit their family
environment that they feel the company has (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d.). The company believes in a
balance between work, leisure and flexibility as well as providing an in house kindergarten for
employees children (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d). This, although fairly minor, is a prime example of
how contemporary businesses have adapted one of the founding principles of management and
adapted it to fit their organization. As well as this Pumpkin Patch have organized their business into
teams such as the information technology (IT) team and the design team who are an integral part of
the organization in helping attain their goals and aims ( Brookes, et al., 2008). As Pumpkin Patch has
consistently produced profits, apart from the

What Are The Five Errors In Anaconda-A Flawed Joint Planning
What is the worst thing that a force can do before going into battle? The worst thing that a force
cannot do is have improper planning. In the article Anaconda A Flawed Joint Planning there was some
key steps that were missed in the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP). The article describes
five errors that the unit could have avoided by using MDMP. However I am only going to discuss four
out of the five errors and there are as follows: Poor Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield,
Underestimating Airpower Deployment Time, Lack of Tactical Coordination for Close Air Support
and the Lack of Operational and Strategic level Coordination. The first error that occurred was poor

the air assets were needed as well as the air planners. Once the air planners would have been involved

would have been less wounded causalities and certain terrorist leaders possibly killed. The third error
that happened was lack of tactical coordination for close air support. This error occurred because the
lack of air integration capability between ground and air forces. The CJTF did not even have some of
the proper equipment to call in close air support. According to the article an actual kill box was not
generated until four days into the battle. This error could have been avoided if the CJTF would have
complete step 3 of the MDMP process. Under step 3 it discusses generating options. Generating

  • 2. The Characteristics Of Kathleen OConnell s Odile For Odette I ve also wondered just what, exactly, Siegfried is guilty of. But I think that if he genuinely mistakes Odile for Odette, that still could be considered a moral lapse. Kathleen O Connell makes that point in the passage quoted, but doesn t see it realized in stagings. For me, it is there, in the traditional staging, though perhaps requires the audience give some thought to what is happening. Siegfried should be able to make the distinction between the two figures, especially given the archetypal weight the ballet gives them. And he should not, say, behave like a ballet fan, who loses her/his head at the sight of 32 fouettes . I don t think it takes two different ballerinas dancing Odette/Odile to make this point. In fact, it should be at least somewhat hard to tell them apart that s what makes it a kind of moral test. If the two women are no more similar than Swanilda and Coppelia than Siegfried is just a dolt like Franz. It could be done with two ballerinas, but it s subtler with one... But let s say Siegfried makes no real error because he has simply been enchanted by Rothbart Something like that happens in the Ring Wagner s Siegfried betrays Brunhilde because of a magic potion. Yet Siegfried s error in Wagner still seems to bear a kind of moral/historical weight even if only Brunhilde really grasps it. The idea that an idle/unintended mistake can have serious not to say tragic consequences IS sometimes a serious theme in art. Somehow one is responsible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rose Colored Dance Analysis Most spectators would distinguish various forms throughout Rose Colored Dance , particularly ovals, rectangles, and a multitude of lines targeted at a focal point (linear perspective). The most evident feature is the symmetrical flower, centered at the intersection of the lines and placed in the foreground. Descending the stem is black white photographs, where portraits substitute the 3 heads on the surrounding birds. Likewise, the images contrast to the red and white hues in the shapes. On both sides of the canvas, two proportionate and identical rectangles are in the background, while below are two ovals containing women figurines. • 4. Tense Present Democracy, English, And The Wars Over Usage Summary of Tense Present Democracy, English, and the Wars over Usage Published in April of 2001 by Harper s Magazine, David Foster Wallace s essay is both a review of A Dictionary of Modern Usage by Bryan A. Garner and an interjection into the present day Usage Wars. Wallace s thesis for his essay is stated after a list of grammatical errors that are overlooked on a daily basis and a few paragraphs defining SNOOT. His thesis states, Issues of tradition vs. egalitarianism in U.S. English are at root political issues and can be effectively addressed only in what this article hereby terms a Democratic Spirit. A Democratic Spirit is an attitude a person can have only by being fervent in his/her beliefs while also recognizing and respecting the beliefs of another. After sorting out what constitutes a Democratic Spirit and how to maintain such an attitude the author questions who has the authority to write a dictionary and, thus, determine which words go into the book and which words are left on the wayside. Wallace praises Garner for his full discloser statement, which acknowledges Garner s principles and gives background information to his text. Next, in his essay, Wallace notes Garner s use of Ethical Appeal. The use of ethos, Wallace says, is refreshing because it is hardly ever used in dictionary. Most dictionaries are political battle ground in a war that is fought between the Prescriptivists (linguistic conservatives) and the Descriptivists (linguistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Film Analysis Of Sunset Boulevard Sunset Boulevard, directed by Billy Wilder features some very legendary and prominent actors as well as directors which helps make this film and instant classic. What makes this movie so unique is that there are both actors and directors in the movie who play themselves. The film stars notable actors and actresses such as Gloria Swanson, William Holden, Buster Keaton, Hedda Hopper, and Anna Q. Nilsson. It also features two very prominent directors, Erich von Stroheim and the infamous Cecil B. DeMille. The actors and actresses seemed to be made for these roles and help turn this movie into a classic. The over the top acting done by Gloria Swanson, the overly, flamboyant setting, and the musical score by Franz Waxman all help contribute to make this film a classic. Sunset Boulevard stars Gloria Swanson who plays a washed up silent movie star (Norma Desmond) which was not too much of a far stretch for her since she had in fact been a silent movie star back in her heyday. It also stars William Holden who plays a has been writer down on his luck (Joe Gillis) who just happens to land himself in Norma Desmond s home. While sidetracked at her home, Joe decides to help her redo the script she had written. She offers him a place to stay while helping her with her script, he reluctantly agrees. She falls for him and the feeling isn t exactly mutual but he realizes that being a kept man might not be such a bad gig. It is clear that they both need one another, though for much different ... • 7. Nike Social Responsibility Essay CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility is a very important keyword for companies these days. Consumers are being more and more aware and conscious about where their clothes come from and how they are made. Consumers also put a lot of thought into where their food comes from, and how it has been produced and treated before it is served at the dinner table. With other words, consumers are demanding better quality and greater responsibility from the companies, than ever before. The consumers of the companies have never demanded as much as they do today from them, and never have companies needed put so much thought in their supply chains and to take this much responsibility for their production and their products. • 8. Summary Of Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History Oppression. It is the driving force behind many of the largest alterations in American history. African Americans were oppressed due to their history of being kept as slaves even after this practice was halted, the toxic remains of a society unwilling to recognize them as equals endured. Women faced a similar hardship as gender roles forced them into lives of service. They devoted their time to caring for their homes and husbands, even at the expense of their own potential careers and educations. Both of these groups yearned to break these expectations. Women and African Americans desired the freedom possessed by the white male. Malcolm X, author of Literacy Behind Bars , chronicled this struggle to overcome the limitations placed on him due to his race. Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, author of Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History , recorded instances of women retaliating against these beliefs. Both Malcolm X and Ulrich propagate a message of self reliance through their individual implementations of connotative diction, details, and anecdotes. Immediately, connotative diction is used by both Malcolm X and Ulrich to incite pathos. For example, a majority of Malcolm X s work was focused on detailing his struggles. He describes his initial writing as slow, painstaking, [and] ragged (641). In the time period which Malcolm X lived, it was uncommon for an African American to possess an education. • 11. Spider Woman Worldview Research Paper Owen James The indigenous worldview was very holistic. They believed that everything was in balance, including male and female power, and everything was sacred. These views are reflected in the creation stories When Jesus came, the corn maidens left and the sacred pipe . In the corn maiden s story, everything is in perfect balance and society is functioning until a priest inappropriately touches one of the maiden s. Outraged by this, the maiden s go away and let the people go into famine, as a way to make sure everyone knows that they are not to be seen sexually (Gutierrez). The story of spider woman provides that there is a collaborative effort in creation stories (Serinity Young 225). There weren t only male deities; there were female deities as well. So, this is empowering to women. This worldview defined women as equal parts to men. Women were all holy and sacred beings. Power was spread out differently but between men and women it was all balanced. Women held a big role in society. • 12. Writing Is Defined As Fun In my opinion, writing is defined as fun, a way to be creative and a way to help me clear my mind. It allows me to express my own individuality. Writing may be known as a bore to others who cant seem to find their own writing style, but if you have that gift of writing it comes easy no matter what subject or topic. That s where my liking for writing comes in. I ve always been able to take a topic and write about it without any problems. Once my brain gets going, its hard to stop. Several years ago, I found my passion for writing. I was sitting in English class, the lights dimmed and everyone starring into the teachers soul as she explained an writing assignment we had to do. She told us to make up a story about what we thought the future was going to be like when we became adults. At first, the topic didn t interest me. I felt as if the future was going to be the same as it was at that time. I didn t know what to write. It was way too cold in the class and the scents of pumpkin pie and sweaty gym socks surrounding the air didn t seem to help the situation much either. After a few minutes of thinking, so many ideas popped in my head, I didn t know how to control it. I started jotting down everything that came to mind, then I went back to organize it so I could start writing. Once my teacher seen what I was doing, she asked Who taught you this technique? Yet, hunger only makes up for a small part of the complications that poverty brings. Without enough money, how does someone suppose to afford to live in a house? Though most Miami County residents do not see homeless people, does not hide the fact we have people living without a home. Peru is not a big city like New York, or Los Angeles, but no matter where you are at in America, there will always be those who cannot afford to rent or own any type of housing. Even if everyone could afford some type of housing to live in, it does not mean they can afford all the necessary utilities. Air conditioning is not a necessity, but someone might not have enough money to provide a fan. The cost for utilities such as electricity for a fan to keep the cool in the summer heat, or simply having running water might be a problem for someone with little to no income. With winter approaching even some people will have to go without heat in the Miami County area. Helping Hands is a Non Government and Non Profit organization in Miami County. Whether it be an idea directly associated to a vehicle s age or a distant memory of an experience we had with our first used car, the question remains; are classic cars reliable and safe? The engine As we ve seen throughout this blog, there is a substantial amount of classic car owners that care for their classic vehicles as if it were a family member. Whether we re looking at a drum or a disc braking system, or a mix of both, we simply must ensure that our classic car s braking system provides adequate (safe) braking. Also, considering that airbags and the standard safety features we find in today s vehicles are simply absent in classic cars, appropriate awareness and precautions must therefore be exercised when driving in a classic vehicle with family or children. Conclusion We think we ve safely dismissed the notion that classic vehicles are not mechanically reliable as they tend to be driven less than modern vehicles, while having just as much or more care applied to them by diligent owners. Additionally, we concluded that the classic vehicles were held to the safety standards that were in place at the time of their manufacture, so by and large, are safe. This being said, as classic cars tend to be driven less frequently, less aggressively, driven during daylight hours, less far and during better weather, the classic car mishaps tend to be few and far between. All in all, from the mechanics and brakes, to the seatbelts, we believe that if you have a classic car on your hands they tend to be reliable and safe. Happy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One way is for schools to let students listen to music in study halls or other times throughout the day that they are allowed to work on homework. This can cause students to be more productive and study more efficiently. A second way is that teachers can play quiet, background music in their classrooms while students take tests. This can create some background noise so it is not extremely silent in the class because too much silence can sometimes be distracting to students. It will also ease some of the nerves that they may have while taking the test. A third way to put music into schools is to use songs that help teach a certain subject that a class may be studying. A fourth way is to make it a requirement for students to take some type of music class in order to graduate. If they really enjoy the class, they will probably continue to take it and keep performing well in other subjects too. From my perspective of today s world and my interpretation of No Country for Old Men and Stagecoach, I can see how the argument could be made that they have declined or haven t changed at all. I see a difference between the relationship of Ringo and Dallas vs other members of their traveling group compared to Sheriff Bell vs Chigurh. These relationships, in my opinion, explains a lot about the development of moral values, or lack of, in the western United States. Is this the right thing to do? Should Ringo get revenge by killing the people that murdered his family? To me this is a attempt to gain equality. To drag the Plummer s brothers down to his level. • 28. Theme Of Individualism In Walt Whitman s Leaves Of Grass Individualism is important. This statement is made clear in Walt Whitman s book, Leaves of Grass, published in 1855. Leaves of Grass is a poetry collection composed in the nineteenth century, during the Westward Expansion. Contrary to popular poetic style in that period, Whitman wrote in free verse, meaning there was little to no rhyming or tempo. Individualism is a theme that sets the tone of Whitman s poems. Whitman uses the literary devices of repetition, asyndeton, imagery, and conflict to create the idea of individualism to set the tone. The repetition present in Whitman s works contributes significantly to the theme of his poems. Repetition can be used to emphasize differences; moreover, it can stress the individuality of every person. Whitman s work, I Hear America Singing, is an example of emphasizing differences, with lines 2 4 being, Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should be blithe and strong, /The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam, /The mason singing his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,... Singing what belongs to them, each has a unique song that only appertains to them. Similarities do appear in the repetition of Whitman s works, revealing that this literary device can create an effect of resemblance between ideas. Taken from O Me!
