Theme Of Technology In The Veldt
Technology is viewed as revolutionary, inventions that make our lives simply better by the touch of a
screen to the click of a button. However, in the short story The Veldt , Ray Bradbury portrays that
technology, despite its benefits, has many significant flaws. The improper and overuse of technology
in The Veldt causes the characters to forget how to live for themselves. The technology takes over
their independence as well as their personal lives and relationships. In The Veldt , Ray Bradbury
asserts that becoming reliant on technology causes a strain on family relations, and can be dangerous
to the way one functions as a human, taking away one s purpose in life. To begin with, the Hadley
family abuses the luxurious technology in their home, which leads to the replacement of love and real
relationships to that of technology. The dynamic of the Hadley family is influenced by technology, and
its overuse causes the hindrance of affection in the children s relationship with their parents. When
psychologist David McClean comes to discuss the problematic African Veldt in the nursery, he
realizes the root of the problem and says: You ve let this room and this house replace you and your
wife in your children s affections (Bradbury 8). This quote conveys that as much as the children have
fallen in love with their nursery, it is taking away the love they should have for their parents.
Additionally, the Hadley children, Peter and Wendy, are replacing their parents with their beloved
nursery, completely shutting out their parents as a whole. As David McClean further analyzes the
children and the problems in their nursery, he exclaims that This room is their mother and father, far
more important in their lives than their real parents (8). Wendy and Peter have made the relationship
with their parents obsolete, as they now consider the nursery a substitute for their mom and dad.
Overall, the Hadley children have completely replaced their parents with technology, displaying the
cautions of technology straining familial relationships. Next, the Hadley s reliance on technology
revolves around and takes over their daily lives, restricting the way they should be functioning as
humans. The HappyLife home that the

The Limits Of My Language Are The Limits Of My World
History of Language
It is argued that the human species are a class of animal. However, the distinctive characteristic that
makes us unique, which makes humans different from all other species, is our ability to use complex
language. Language is thought of as multi sensory, containing not only the verbal and writing, but also
touch, smell, sound, and body elements. As humans are very social beings, people have the natural
instinct to connect and communicate with others, to share our emotions and ideas, and as a result,
learning a language becomes an instinct for each individual. Language is the device used for
communication, Ludwig Wittgenstein, an Austrian philosopher on language, said, The limits of my
language are the limits of my world . By this Wittgenstein implies that people use just one language
and therefore live in just one world, and if someone is not capable of using the language, their world is
narrowed. However, Albert Einstein had a conflicting opinion, he cheapened the importance of
language and said, The words of a language as they are written and spoken do not seem to play any
role in the mechanism of my thought. His quote shows that a scientist s mind works ... Show more

But before the creation of any writing system known to its speakers, the Indo European language had
died out. As Indo Europeans moved on from their ancestral homeland and brought forth new
generations, their language evolved, first into contrasting dialects, and then into equally complex
daughter languages. Ten proto language families are recognized today. In the centuries that followed
the Indo European proto languages themselves grew, each giving birth to its own family of languages.
Each family is recognized with the proto language from which it came

Women In The 1990s
On the other hand, certain women have prospered in getting positions of power. As a matter of
example, one of the best efficacious women in German government in the 1990s is Rita Süssmuth, she
managed to be the president of the Bundestag. Moreover, in the sector of business, Birgit Breuel
assumed the control and power following the murder of Detlev Rohwedder in the year 1991 of the
agency, the influential agency charged with denationalizing and ensuring privatization of the former
East German economy . Additional powerful and noticeable German women in the mid 1990s were
like: the manager Public opinion institute o Allensbach; Elizabeth Noelle, and Marion von Dönhoff
who became the coeditor of Die Zeit. Hitherto in spite of such progress, women still had the
responsibility to go out and achieve. A time had come that the women were to scramble for the limited
opportunities with their men. German needed skills and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the women even succumbed to death due to such vice and ended up losing three things at a

might have forced then to do so. Reportedly, in year 1991 roughly one hundred and twenty five
thousand women aborted. Of the entire figure indicates that the one hundred and twenty five thousand
women represented the number of lives lost in a bid to get job opportunities . The situation was very
disastrous to the economy. The law on abortion continued to work in force in both the Western and the
eastern Germany even after the unification. The legislation that appeared pleasing to the women to
combat their counterparts was killing more of the females in the coming generations besides the
males. However, before late the law was

My School s Investment Club Essay
Problem My school s investment club has decided to start trading through an online investment site.
This step is required to stay up to date in today s world of fast trading. The goal of my study is to
analyze various online trading sites and look for which ones will benefit the investment club the most.
In doing this study, a criterion needs to be established. The criteria will be able to resolve questions
like: What sites will be the best financial decision? What sites will be the easiest to operate? And also,
what online trading sites come with the best perks? Background Technology has been helping the
work force with productivity since the invention of the computer. One industry that it has been
impacted greatly is the world of investing. Twenty four hours a day and seven days a week, stocks can
be traded through various online investing sites. Trading isn t the only part of investing that is affected
by technology. Public companies earnings reports can now be viewed by anyone with a computer.
Anybody can be given the power to do their own research and become an informed investor in today s
world. As stated by Investopedia, With the Internet, an investor can find an online company report
from the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) website immediately after it is posted. Large
financial documents can be downloaded within seconds and can be searched for key words, topics or
specific financial statements (Ryan Fuhrmann, 2012). Technology has essentially made the

mapping. INTRODUCTION TO MOBILE PHONES Wireless communication has come a long way
since weighing around 1.1 kg in 1983 to the myriad of smartphones available in the market today that
are lightweight and loaded with endless features. But it all began towards the 20th century, when
telegraph and radio technology were evolving tremendously. The transatlantic telegraph was built by
1866. An affinity towards wireless communication was growing for a number of reasons: (i) Increased
mobility. (ii) No wiring. (iii) Remote access. (iv) Innovative solution. (v) Defence strategies. The
concept of mobile phones is based on a very sophisticated radio. Mobile phones have power run
transmitters in them. This power is supplied by a battery. A low power phone requires smaller battery
that allows use of hand held sets, which are not overly bulky. Transmitters convert voice/sound into
electrical signals sent over a frequency spectrum that are received at the station and converted back to

Awakened Short Story
Awakened (1) I awoke dazed and confused by the events that had happened the night before. As I sit
up I feel extremely light headed. I look around as my sight slowly returns. Everything is still kind of
blurry but I can tell that I m outside. I get up and slowly stumble to my left, I reach out to what turns
out to be a tree and try to regain my balance. As I sit back down I try to remember the events of last
night, all that I can remember is passing out here on the ground late last night. I think, right now it
must have been about 10am, and I didn t have the slightest clue of where I was, I was still feeling a
little faint. I stand up and walk toward what looks like a path of some kind and decide to continue

Terrified I jumped behind a tree hoping it wouldn t notice. It didn t even glance my way as it raced
ahead, it appeared to be chasing a black and white rabbit that was ahead of me. As it passed by me I
let out a sigh of relief he didn t see me. I think to myself with a hint of gratitude in my voice. I look
down and see a beaten up brown leather wallet under my foot. what s that doing out here in the middle
of nowhere? I ask myself. Just as I bent down to pick up the wallet my pocket lets out a shriek. What
the hell was that?! I ask myself as my pocket lets out another ear splitting shriek. I reach into my
pocket only to reveal my phone shrieking in unison with an incoming call. I look down at the caller ID
and it shows an unknown caller, I answer it hoping it s someone who can help me figure out where I
am. Hello? I say hopeful, Hello says the voice on the other end of the phone, his voice is slightly
unnerving but I decide to shake it off, until I heard his next words I heard you found my wallet, return
it to me and I will explain to you what happened to you last night. You were there? I asked scared but
with excitement in my voice nonetheless. Yes I was, but you would not remember me for I was
unimportant to the night s events Sam Knight. How do you know my name? I ask suddenly wary of
our words. Like I said before I was there just unimportant and unnoticed, bring me my wallet to the
mountain straight ahead I will give you two days time to get here and return it or a great misfortune
will befall you. His voice was deep and dark when he said these last words and remember Sam Knight

Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film A significant challenge for architects today is creating a balance
between preserving original, historic buildings, and creating functional additions for them. Additions
play a very important role in structures today; serving to work with what already exists while
accommodating changing functional requirements and aesthetic tastes. They seek to maintain the
original building s character, while becoming compatible with new design. The Vogelstein Center for
Drama and Film at Vassar College, an addition to the façade of Avery Hall, designed by Cesar Pelli in
2003, exemplifies multiple characteristics of a good addition. The addition is in dramatic ... Show

Prior to the addition, Ferry House challenged Vassar s preexisting architectural notions, being the first
modern building of its kind. In relation to surrounding buildings, Sanders Physics and Main Building,
Ferry is a misfit. However, upon completion of the Vogelstein addition, this section of campus was
transformed. The dark and light gray striped pattern addition fares well with the white painted brick of
Ferry House. The varying width of these stripes is representative of the contemporary nature the
architect was trying to further, similar to the rectangular shapes present on Ferry. Vogelstein s stark
burnt orange overhang again mirrors the style of Ferry building. The concrete masonry stands out not
only against the façade, but also against Vassar s many other brick buildings. These two adjacent
buildings share a common courtyard, known as the Frances Daly Fergusson Quadrangle, a venue for
outdoor theatrics. This minimalist courtyard serves to create a flow between the two buildings. This
addition meets demands for modernization, relatable to the Loeb Art Center and the upcoming science
facility on the opposite side of campus. These buildings work together to bring a contemporary mix to
an otherwise historically significant and beautiful, yet dated style of brick

Stock Market Crash of 1929
The Stock Market Crash of 1929 was the most devastating crash in U.S. history. It started on October
24, 1929 and the downfall ended in July 1932. I always wondered what caused this calamity. Before
starting this report, I knew basic idea about the crash. It was a time of decline and huge fortunes were
lost. Now I can figure out just why.
The research process for my report was no easy task. The simple part was choosing my topic. As soon
as I saw Crash of 1929 on the topic list, I had my mind fixed on it. After selecting that topic, I did a
couple days of basic research and got a feel for it. The harder part was choosing a question to base my
report on. The first question that came to my mind was How did the 1929 crash affect the U.S. ...

The following three paragraphs will discuss the reasons why the Crash occurred and possible
prevention methods. One reason the stock market crashed was margin buying. When you buy a stock
on margin, it means that you buy a stock on credit and a promise with your broker that you will pay
off the loan later. This method will increase your earnings if the stock s value rises thus making it very
popular. On the other hand, if the stock s value falls, you will lose even more money. This is why
margin buying is very risky especially at the high rates. When the Stock Market fell, many people
went broke. Male investors jumped off the top of buildings because they were in such a bad financial
situation. According to the Financial Times, the President of the American Bankers Association said
Bankers are gravely alarmed over the mounting volume of credit being employed in carrying security
loans, both by brokers and by people. The bankers should have lowered the rates to reduce the
negative effects of margin buying. The average rate before October 1929 was 50% 75%. Had it been
lowered to 10 percent, the crash would have been shortened to a couple of months.
Another big problem that led to the Stock Market Crash was public misconception. The general
conception was that the stock market was an easy way to make money. People began believing that
stock prices would go up forever. As a result, many people bought publicized stocks

The Sociology Research Methods Questionnaire
The Sociology Research Methods Questionnaire is an example of a badly designed survey. You could
improve several questions merely by separating them into 2 questions or narrowing the scope of the
question. Also the title would lead you to believe that it had something to do with research methods in
sociology, however, upon reading through the survey you soon realize that if there is an objective to
this survey it is not clear. The order of the question and answer in some parts of the survey are not
succinct and further add to the confusion created by the lack of subject matter. Finally there are many
questions as that could have been answered by the research through additional steps. Several of the
questions could be rewritten to gain clarity; however doing so would not eliminate the lack of subject
matter for this survey. Question # 35, which asks about respondent s level of comfort with
homosexuals; the answers offered are long, extensive and cannot be true all the time for everyone; the
answers should be more concise. For example the options could be as simple as:
 Extremely comfortable
 Comfortable
 Not comfortable at all
Question # 37 which requests responded stance or support of feminism, this first issue with this
question is the order in which the answers are offered, they are not in order, typically answer should
be in ascending or descending order of support not in random order. Also several of the answers are
compound thoughts, for example the first answer

Juliet takes her mothers line The County Paris, at Saint Peter s Church shall happily make you there a

against marrying Paris and does not agree that Paris will make her a Joyful bride . At this point Juliet s
mother is outsmarted by Juliet s intelligence and responds with Here comes your father. Tell him so
yourself, and see how he will take it at your hands. This shows that Lady Capulet does not have
control over her daughter and passes it over to Lord Capulet to deal with because she is weak and is
frightened of her husband because he is controlling. Then Juliet s father enters and he is furious that
Juliet is refusing to marry Paris. Shakespeare shows this by using rhetorical questions, by using
rhetorical questions this shows that Lord Capulet is not willing to give Juliet a chance to speak or

Teach For America Reflection
This semester was very informative as far better understanding some important and major events that
took place in the United States in regards to education. One of the subjects that really got me thinking
was when we talked about how privatization is taking over democratic public education. I truly
bothers me to think that we are starting to go into path where all that is valued is scores/standardized
test results. I truly believe we teach to help children to help them not only learn basic skills but also to
give them opportunities to be curious and want to explore different topics in different content areas.
This also is essential to help them better understand what they want for their future as far as possible

Standardized tests and benchmark targets are a distraction from the real lessons that children need to
rise above adversity and succeed in life (page 110). I completely agree with the statement made by the
author, children need to gain social skills, it is an essential skill. I also read Why I Quit Teach for

positive title could have so many flaws. Under the guise of being professional, the diversity sessions

Maine Nephrology Associates, An 11 Physician Specialty...
I am pleased to share with you my mock strategic plan for Maine Nephrology Associates, an 11
physician specialty practice that specializes in the treatment of kidney disease and hypertension. With
contributions from the National Kidney Foundation, patients, providers and staff, Maine Nephrology
was given the opportunity to influence the direction of the practice over the next several years. This
strategic plan represents a true consensus of the stakeholders of Maine Nephrology Associates. In the
plan you will find that Maine Nephrology will continue to serve the public that have made Maine
Nephrology Associates one of the leading private practices servicing the renal community in southern
Maine. As Maine Nephrology is broadening their scope of practice, they are not only helping patients
with end stage renal disease, but also those patients in early stages of kidney disease, along with those
at risk for kidney disease due to hypertension and/or diabetes. Maine Nephrology follows the vision of
The National Kidney Foundation which was established in 1950 by Ada DeBold in an effort to save
the life of her young son. As a small child, he was diagnosed with pediatric nephrosis, a disease that
causes the kidney to lose protein and in turn the body develops swelling. In the 1950 s this disease was
debilitating and had more than a ninety percent mortality rate. In an effort to find a cure, a group of
clinicians and researchers were put together to share their findings to develop

The Economic Disaster Of Detroit
Detroit, Michigan once stood as the epitome of industrial American cities. In the mid 1990s Detroit
had the highest income per capita and a booming automotive industry. During prohibition in the 1920s
Detroit served as a major gateway for the importation of alcohol from Canada, whereby it thrived
from this lucrative business. Also, around this same time the automotive industry was growing at a
pace where jobs were begging to be filled, and the population of Detroit rose to nearly 2,000,000.
There was a point in time where many other major U.S. cities envied Detroit and were jealous of its
ever growing economy and infrastructure. At this time it seemed as though nothing would stop the
economic growth of the Motor City. Sadly, these are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main causes of this economic collapse are the loss of thousands of manufacturing jobs in the state
of Michigan due to globalization, the subtle racism of residents leading to the suburbanization of the
Detroit area, and a group of crooked municipal government leaders that stole from the community.
Despite these overwhelming obstacles Detroit is on the mend, and many see a bright future for this
once great city.
It is however, important to note that everybody have a weakness, and the same remains true when
referring to a cities infrastructure. The most astounding reason for the quick decline of Detroit was the
closure of many automotive factories and the deterioration of the American auto industry. Detroit was
a city with everything going for it. Its quick economic growth in the early 20th century had a lot to do
with its geographical location. It was located close to the nations major coal and iron distributors and
it was easily accessible by water via the Detroit River. Edmund Wilson wrote in a critique of Detroit,
You can see here, as it is impossible to do in a more varied and complex city, the whole structure of an
industrial society. Wilson elegantly notes that Detroit depends entirely on the automotive industry as
its source of sustainability where other cities have a more diversified industrial scene. At the
beginning of the 20th century Detroit s auto industry began. Henry Ford opened the Ford Motor
company in 1903 and

Analysis Of The Story Delicatessen Essay
The story of DELICATESSEN begins at an apartment complex where the peculiarities of the time and
place are both ambiguous. There are several people gathering together to live. There is a specific
vertical social power structure in the building. The butcher, who works in a grocery store on the
ground floor and is also the landlord of the building, is the dictator who leads others There is one
unique rule, which is eating people who are visitors or unable to provide food for the building. One
day, a retired clown, Pinon, comes to the building to get a job and a room to live in and the story
commences. He lives there as a maintenance man without knowing that he will be a future meal. In
the building, he meets many types of people and also falls in love with Marie Laure, who is a daughter
of the butcher. They try to survive against the tenants, and, in the end, the butcher dies and the
building s dictatorial structure is destroyed. Pinon and Marie survive and start to happily live in the

Efficient Wireless Power Transfer Through Magnetic...
Imagine a situation where no electrical device has to be plugged into a wall. In this case, a laptop or
cell phone can charge itself easily and seamlessly just by being placing inside a room. This is the
ability of many experimental wireless power devices that will be adapted to domestic use in the future.
Today, the prevailing methods of energy transfer are wires and batteries. Wired connections are
perhaps the most common. With this energy transfer method, energy is delivered from a power plant
to a home. In the case of batteries, energy is stored as chemical energy in the battery cell. Once it is
needed, the chemical energy can be released as electrical energy. However, both these methods have
flaws. Both suffer from mild inefficiency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process eliminates the use of wires between the transmitter and receiver therefore making it
wireless. For example, solar power is essentially radiative wireless energy transfer. The sun is the
transmitter, the photovoltaic solar cell is the receiver, and the sunlight is a high frequency
electromagnetic wave (Little et al.). The process can be adapted for everyday use if electricity is
transformed into light by a light source and then absorbed by a photocell that transforms the light back
into electricity. However, due to issues with efficiency, this application will never be practical unless a
more efficient solar cell is developed. Of course, the efficiency can be increased if a focused beam of
light is used instead, but this still lags far behind compared to the efficiency of a standard wired
connection. For home use, this method is impractical, but in other fields, its advantages outweigh its
disadvantages.
Radiative energy transfer has many advantages and disadvantages. A distinct disadvantage that makes
this method impractical for home use is that the transfer can affect other objects and requires that no
object blocks the space between the receiver and transmitter (Kurs et al.). With this in mind, there are
a number of things to be concerned about. First, it requires that no object blocks the line of sight
between the receiver and the transmitter. Second, efficiency is

Summary Of To Techers By Rabindranath Tagore
Within the works of, To Techers, by Rabindranath Tagore, the reader is introduced to Tagore s
personal story of why he created his school. Tagore is a man who believed that the current educational
system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child receives when learning
from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when he was a child. However, He
describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only way for him to escape was to
finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the educational system, he had
created his own school, where students would learn in a natural atmosphere. To do this, he
implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different seasons, and brought in musicians
to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced his own songs and writings to show his
students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed that schooling should not be a prison, but a way
for many to come together and understand other s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a
university, but a meeting place for students of all countries and religions to come together to find
spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect
of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a great meeting place for individuals from all countries where
men who believe in spiritual unity can come in touch with their neighbors, (Tagore 44). To put it

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close Book Report
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, as written by Jonathan Safran Foer, offers a truly unique insight
into the life of too smart for his own good, nine year old Oskar Schell. The book mainly follows Oskar
in his search for closure in the aftermath of the death of his father, Thomas Schell, who died tragically
in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Months after his father s death, Oskar finds a
key in an envelope seemingly hidden away in a vase in his father s closet. Oskar wonders if this could
be another of his father s famous scavenger hunts; the scavenger hunt to end all scavenger hunts. The
envelope has the word Black scrawled on it in red pen, Oskar decides Black must be the name o

His story is told chronically; one of the many aspects of this book which contributes to the reader s
sensation of experiencing that which Oskar experiences, first hand. The disorientation Oskar feels as
he searches for something or someone to fill the hole the death of his father created is mirrored in the
style of Foer s writing. Foer masterfully crafts the depiction of events in such a way that the reader
rarely has a better understanding of said events than the character in question, contributing greatly to
the reader s sense of confusion and frustration. As readers, we are used to the privileges the average
reader can expect to receive, one most unknowingly take advantage of, that of the all knowing
outsider looking in. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is not the typical novel; there are no long

only knows that which the narrator chances to

faster during the test. Three subjects completed the VO2 max tests back to back days, leaving the
subjects feeling sore from the first VO2 max.
There are many important limitations of the lactate threshold tests that will be discussed. During the
treadmill lactate threshold tests, there was an occasion of errors read on the Lactate Plus. This would
lead to having to retesting, forcing the subject to pause for a longer period in between stages. The
delay could change the reading of the blood lactate level. Subject three is considered a highly trained
endurance athlete and required a different protocol for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is assumed that because the results are insignificant that a VO2 max test does not affect a person s
pulmonary function. A limitation during these tests could result of the subjects forgetting to wear a
nose piece. Not wearing a nose piece would skew the results by increasing the subject s FVC and
MVV. A set time after VO2 max test was not set, therefore, subjects varied on how many minutes it
took to complete the pulmonary function tests after the VO2 max test. The sample size was very small
and a very specific population. If a sedentary population would have been tested, results may have
been different like in Vendala et al. (2013) research. In Durmic et al. (2017) research MVV and FVC
were compared between endurance elite athletes and their age and sex matched sedentary control
group. This study found that there is evidence that exercise may affect spirometric indices that can

Essay about staffing policies
CURRENT POLICIES AND PRACTICES
In order to maintain a competitive edge and consistently reduce staffing issues, many companies have
turned to alternative methods of staffing. As companies continue to change with the times , so do their
staffing needs. Therefore, the traditional hiring of a full time employee is not the only option.
Companies have turned to more effective ways of getting the job done. They are using outside sources
to recruit employees.
United Healthcares hiring practices will be utilized in this report to identify the ways in which a
company fills its open positions. First there is the process of finding external candidates for a position.
The company uses a variety of sources to recruit these candidates: ... Show more content on

· Program measurements and reports
Other ways in which United Health staffs are more the traditional form of college recruiting and
employee referrals. These old fashioned ways of hiring are effective and continue be successful.
However, the use of these more sophisticated outlets mentioned above have proven to be just as
successful.
RESEARCH AND CURRENT THINKING
The staffing policies, which United Healthcare uses, are like that of many other organizations. Lots of
companies today are using the same or similar sources to fill their positions. There staffing policies are
often reviewed to ensure that they are similar to that of their competitors.
Unfortunately, like many other companies, United has had to go through the process of downsizing
with in the last two years. Downsizing is basically defined as cutting staff and eliminating positions.
Many companies go through this process as a result of needing to cut expenses. This process

Prostitution And Its Effect On Society Essay
For a free society to keep violent crime to a minimum with little disturbance on individual liberty,
government should, alongside prosecuting victimless crimes, minimize the opportunity for the corrupt
to create victims. Prostitution has been practiced in all ancient and modern cultures. In the United
States, prostitution was originally widely legal. Prostitution was made illegal in almost all states
between 1910 and 1915 due to the influence of the Woman s Christian Temperance Union which was
influential in the banning of drug use and was a major force in the prohibition of alcohol. In 1917 the
legally defined prostitution district Storyville in New Orleans was closed down by the Federal
government over local objections. In Deadwood, South Dakota, prostitution, while technically illegal,
was tolerated by local residents and officials for decades until the last madam was brought down by
state and federal authorities for tax evasion in 1980 (Weitzer). Prostitution remained legal in Alaska
until 1953, and is still legal in some rural counties of Nevada, including areas outside of Las Vegas.
Prostitution is the provision of sexual services for a negotiated payment between consenting adults.
Prostitution is a service industry like any other in which people exchange services for money or other
reward. No person s human or civil rights should be violated on the basis of their trade, occupation,
work, calling or profession. Additionally, no law has ever succeeded in

Reflection Paper On Christmas Angels
Christmas Angels Christmas in the Chapel has been a huge staple in my childhood, and every year, I
ve looked forward to seeing the signing angels from my church Jefferson Street of from Lincoln
Christian Church. In January 2015, I was able to join their group, Praise Handmade, and entered the
Heavenlies , as we call it, that December. Our Head Angel , Angela, and three other girls, Rebecca,
Bethany, and Erin, were in my first group for two years, and they had done it before. I was new to all
of this, and I was the youngest and the smallest (I was 11 my first year); being afraid of heights did not
help at all.
The platform we were on was the highest part on the stage, and there was was nothing to keep us from
falling; the stage is about 15 feet into the air. During my first rehearsal on the stage, my skin turned as
pale as a ghost and my body was as still as a statue; I was completely petrified. When the song was
over, I moved to a lower level of the stage to calm down. One of the angels (I don t remember who)
asked me, Are you okay?
I told them I was fine, though I was still trembling a little bit from fear. How was I supposed to do it in
front of several people if I couldn t even rehearse up there without having a panic attack? Thankfully, I
soon got used to the height, though the first time up there every year still makes my heart pound; I
think it does for everyone. For my third year, I was able to look up for our last sign for the very first
time.

QVC is represented in six countries and soon to be seven. QVC went live 1986 ruling the television

Emotions in Negotiations
We negotiate every day for different purposes, and each day we experience emotions, both positive
and negative. When negotiating, formally or informally, with family or in the organizational
workplace we often do not know how to handle ourselves, yet alone the emotions of the other person
or group. As educated people, we often try to ignore the influence of emotions on decision making.
Neuroscience evidence now shows that sound and rational decision making is contingent on prior
accurate emotional processing. The basis for this is the somatic marker hypothesis. The somatic
marker hypothesis provides a systems level neuroanatomical and cognitive framework for decision
making, the impact, and influence on it by emotions. The key idea of this hypothesis is that decision
making is a process that is influenced by marker signals that arise in bio regulatory processes, which
includes those that express themselves in emotions and feelings. This influence can occur at multiple
levels of operation, some of which occur consciously and some of which occur non consciously
(Bechara Damasio, 2000). Essentially, somatic markers are associations of stimuli that induce an
associated physiological affective state. We may feel embarrassed; have muscle contractions,
experience a heart rate increase, endocrine release, posture, and facial expression changes. These are
all a result of somatic marker interpretation. The physiological change occurs in the brain and is
relayed to the

The Influence Of Emmeline s Suffragette Campaigning
It is difficult to discern whether the voting rights for women over thirty was influenced by their years
of suffragette campaigning, or a prize for their contribution to the war. Nevertheless, the war has
removed the many obstacles to gain reformation, and allowing women to prove themselves on the
workforce. Emmeline renamed the W.S.P.U to Women s Party, and campaigned tirelessly for her
daughter, Christabel, to run in the House of Commons, but lost by a small margin. In the later years,
Emmeline became fond of Canada due to her numerous tours of lectures regarding the wickedness of
Bolshevism, to America. In June 1923, she was elected the vice president of the Public Health
Association of Canada, ensuring social hygiene among both children

Life Without Survival In Pi s Life
It is known that one of the most difficult things to do, is survive on sea in terms of a survival situation.
(Grade Saver). Surviving on sea is one difficult thing to do on your own although imagine doing it
with a Bengal tiger? Not imaginable, but it did happen with Piscine Molitor Patel of Pondicherry
India. Pi survives on sea for seven months (227) days from India to the coast of Mexico mentally and
physically because he had hope, Richard Parker, and religion. Without these three things he may not
have survived because he speaks about the importance of these things to him and the role that they
play in his life and the influence they have on him on this treacherous, lengthy journey.
Life without meaning brings no hope. Life without hope brings no faith. If you have both it will lead
you into the future. (statusmind.com) Pi had hope that allowed him to survive the journey but not all
the time, he has lost it a few times when he thought he was going to be eaten by the tiger but it was his
morals and his faith that keeps him going. Hope plays a big role in everyone s life. Hope is the belief
of what could possibly be and Pi is not sure that he is going to make it out of the sea alive but it gets
him to keep pushing when he feels like he is dying or that death is near. I was giving up, I would ve
given up if a voice hadn t made itself heard in my heart. The voice said, I will not die. I refuse it. I will
make it through this nightmare. I will beat the odds, as great as

Fishing for Trouble Essay
In 1999 near the Galapagos Islands, Rob Stewart, 22, an underwater photographer and filmmaker, was
driving when he discovered something that changed his life forever. It was a long line fishing rig hung
with hundreds of dead sharks on a single fishing line that Stewart explained had the potential to reach
from Earth to space. This fishing line is known by conservationists as a curtain of death (Kielburger).
Overfishing is the fishing of a species at levels too high for the species to reproduce. This can greatly
reduce fish population and drive species toward extinction. Fishing has provided the world with food
and jobs that have remodeled Earth s cultures and lifestyles. Fishing is practiced by local fishermen,
commercial fishing rigs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When fish populations are low in one area, fishing boats will need to move to another area where fish
are more abundant. This renders oceans and their sea life helpless and severely damaged until all of
the fish in the oceans are completely gone. That is why governments need laws establishing the length
of time a person could spend at sea fishing, in order to reduce overfishing and increase recovery of
fish populations. One example of a fish population suffering from overfishing is the Pacific bluefin
tuna. Overfishing has left the world with less than five percent of its Pacific Bluefin tuna, says the
Pew Environment Group (Kowalski). This statement explains to the world how overfishing can
drastically decrease a species population in an extraordinarily short time period. The Pacific bluefin
tuna and other fish are very much stressed by overfishing, and suffer severe losses of population every
day. Moreover, overfishing will soon lead to the extinction of fish species like the Pacific bluefin tuna.
The European Commission even admits that the EU s [European Union] stocks are 88% overfished (
An Icelandic Success ). This reveals Europe s failure to prevent overfishing from spreading
throughout the continent and beyond its borders. The majority of Europe s fish supply undergoes the
harmful effects that overfishing brings. Additionally, the fish

Alternate Outcome At Fort Ticonderoga
Alternate outcome at Fort Ticonderoga
In order to come to an alternative outcome, one must first address the instructional letter sent from
General Gage to General Carleton after the battles at Lexington and Concord. The letter took far too
long to get to General Carleton. General Gage had credible human intelligence suggesting that the
colonists wanted to take Fort Ticonderoga. While one understands that one must use the chain of
command, one would think the immediacy of the letter was far more important and should have gone
directly to Fort Ticonderoga, instead of the 10 day long ride to Montreal. And even if that was not
proper protocol, General Gage could have at least sent an advisor with knowledge of surveillance
techniques to Fort Ticonderoga to aid in their post and give better forewarning of a potential attack.
Secondly, had the British force at Fort Ticonderoga had cavalry scouts assigned to it, there would not
have been much of an American Revolution. The cavalry scouts would have picked up the trail of
Colonels Allen, Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys. The Scouts could have performed
reconnaissance and then reported back to the garrison commander, putting the whole fort on guard.
Then the garrison commander could have contacted both the British sloop in Lake Champlain and the
garrison at Fort Crown Point for further aid and reinforcements, beating back the patriot attacking
force.
Thirdly, with more troops at the fort, the British could have afforded a couple

Iron Curtain Speech Analysis
A cold war is a conflict of ideas, an argument more than a fight. In a cold war bombs are not dropped,
bullets are not fired. The United States and the Soviet Union fought such a war during the years 1945
through 1991. The United States developed a policy of containment toward the Soviet Union after
Winston Churchill s Iron Curtain speech. The speech highlighted the difference in philosophy of
government, the US was a Democracy and the Soviet Union was a communist nation. These
differences helped heat up the Cold War.
It all started on March 5th, 1946, Winston Churchill had just got done telling his speech in retaliation
of Stalin s speech. Winston s speech was about how communists were rising to power and how
Eastern Europe was divided into two, calling it the iron curtain. Churchill also called on US to help
keep Stalin from caging any more nations behind the iron curtain of communist dictatorship and
abuse. These two speeches by Stalin and Churchill set the mood for the cold war. The rivalry that
advanced between the US and the Soviet Union was power and influence in the world.
Containment was the idea of the diplomat George Kennan, he suggested that the us prevent

The Thought Fox, Two Trees, And Digging
Have you ever sat within a group of friends reading poems and getting flattered with the inferences
and connections each one of you make? Yes! That is the best thing about poetry; it can be interpreted
in several ways. None of them is wrong though. It is just a matter of creativity and imagination.
Stumbling across three poems ( The Thought Fox , Two Trees , and Digging ), you can see that each of
them may look different. However, in some way, they all relate! The poems include various forms of
creativity and art; yet, they all contribute in describing the process of writing a poem in their own
unique styles.
In the poem The Thought Fox , the poet, Ted Hughes, establishes a dark and sneaky mood from the
very beginning with the conceit Fox ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is special about the poem is that it is open to various interpretations and points of view; the
reader can think about it in one way today, and in another the next day, which is actually quite
enthralling. Concerning the paraphrasable content, Paterson is talking about two men, one who had a
clear image of what he is doing and took care of his trees, and another who bought the house who did
not have a vision and messed up everything. Well, this is how it may seem from the first look;
however, after being attached to the poem and reading it again, you will notice another aspect. You
will notice that the poem is basically a long metaphor about relationships. It shows how a person can
be devoted and dedicated to someone that they are mainly rooted to them; things will take their time,
but once the two persons are lashed tight , all the good memories will happen, hope will always be
there just like the two lights in the dark leaves , and moments will be mesmerizing just like magic .
After that, conflicts and problems start popping up leading to separation and the end of the
relationship. During this stage, Paterson uses jarring phrases such as led him to take his axe and split
the bole demonstrating the cruelty of breaking up that it even buries the couple in two holes . Even
though everything is just as close as four yards , yet it lost them everything and made them desperate
to meet again. At the end of the poem, Paterson tries to contradict this long metaphor by saying trees
are all this poem is about , but deep readers will know that it just an attempt from him to grab further
attention to the idea! He uses rhyming couplets throughout the poem to enchant the readers and give
the poem a sort of a tale feeling. Now the hypnotizing part is here! Succeeding a couple of deep
readings, I have come to a quite

  • 2. Theme Of Technology In The Veldt Technology is viewed as revolutionary, inventions that make our lives simply better by the touch of a screen to the click of a button. However, in the short story The Veldt , Ray Bradbury portrays that technology, despite its benefits, has many significant flaws. The improper and overuse of technology in The Veldt causes the characters to forget how to live for themselves. The technology takes over their independence as well as their personal lives and relationships. In The Veldt , Ray Bradbury asserts that becoming reliant on technology causes a strain on family relations, and can be dangerous to the way one functions as a human, taking away one s purpose in life. To begin with, the Hadley family abuses the luxurious technology in their home, which leads to the replacement of love and real relationships to that of technology. The dynamic of the Hadley family is influenced by technology, and its overuse causes the hindrance of affection in the children s relationship with their parents. When psychologist David McClean comes to discuss the problematic African Veldt in the nursery, he realizes the root of the problem and says: You ve let this room and this house replace you and your wife in your children s affections (Bradbury 8). This quote conveys that as much as the children have fallen in love with their nursery, it is taking away the love they should have for their parents. Additionally, the Hadley children, Peter and Wendy, are replacing their parents with their beloved nursery, completely shutting out their parents as a whole. As David McClean further analyzes the children and the problems in their nursery, he exclaims that This room is their mother and father, far more important in their lives than their real parents (8). Wendy and Peter have made the relationship with their parents obsolete, as they now consider the nursery a substitute for their mom and dad. Overall, the Hadley children have completely replaced their parents with technology, displaying the cautions of technology straining familial relationships. Next, the Hadley s reliance on technology revolves around and takes over their daily lives, restricting the way they should be functioning as humans. The HappyLife home that the ... However, the distinctive characteristic that makes us unique, which makes humans different from all other species, is our ability to use complex language. Language is thought of as multi sensory, containing not only the verbal and writing, but also touch, smell, sound, and body elements. As humans are very social beings, people have the natural instinct to connect and communicate with others, to share our emotions and ideas, and as a result, learning a language becomes an instinct for each individual. Language is the device used for communication, Ludwig Wittgenstein, an Austrian philosopher on language, said, The limits of my language are the limits of my world . By this Wittgenstein implies that people use just one language and therefore live in just one world, and if someone is not capable of using the language, their world is narrowed. However, Albert Einstein had a conflicting opinion, he cheapened the importance of language and said, The words of a language as they are written and spoken do not seem to play any role in the mechanism of my thought. The emergence of cell phones has been identified as such a case study in this paper. Keywords Technology evolution, innovation, cellular phone, emergence road mapping. INTRODUCTION TO MOBILE PHONES Wireless communication has come a long way since weighing around 1.1 kg in 1983 to the myriad of smartphones available in the market today that are lightweight and loaded with endless features. But it all began towards the 20th century, when telegraph and radio technology were evolving tremendously. The transatlantic telegraph was built by 1866. An affinity towards wireless communication was growing for a number of reasons: (i) Increased mobility. (ii) No wiring. (iii) Remote access. (iv) Innovative solution. (v) Defence strategies. The concept of mobile phones is based on a very sophisticated radio. Mobile phones have power run transmitters in them. This power is supplied by a battery. A low power phone requires smaller battery that allows use of hand held sets, which are not overly bulky. Transmitters convert voice/sound into electrical signals sent over a frequency spectrum that are received at the station and converted back to the original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They seek to maintain the original building s character, while becoming compatible with new design. Prior to the addition, Ferry House challenged Vassar s preexisting architectural notions, being the first modern building of its kind. In relation to surrounding buildings, Sanders Physics and Main Building, Ferry is a misfit. However, upon completion of the Vogelstein addition, this section of campus was transformed. The dark and light gray striped pattern addition fares well with the white painted brick of Ferry House. The varying width of these stripes is representative of the contemporary nature the architect was trying to further, similar to the rectangular shapes present on Ferry. Vogelstein s stark burnt orange overhang again mirrors the style of Ferry building. The concrete masonry stands out not only against the façade, but also against Vassar s many other brick buildings. These two adjacent buildings share a common courtyard, known as the Frances Daly Fergusson Quadrangle, a venue for outdoor theatrics. This minimalist courtyard serves to create a flow between the two buildings. I always wondered what caused this calamity. Before starting this report, I knew basic idea about the crash. It was a time of decline and huge fortunes were lost. Now I can figure out just why. The research process for my report was no easy task. The simple part was choosing my topic. As soon as I saw Crash of 1929 on the topic list, I had my mind fixed on it. After selecting that topic, I did a couple days of basic research and got a feel for it. The harder part was choosing a question to base my report on. The first question that came to my mind was How did the 1929 crash affect the U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The following three paragraphs will discuss the reasons why the Crash occurred and possible prevention methods. One reason the stock market crashed was margin buying. When you buy a stock on margin, it means that you buy a stock on credit and a promise with your broker that you will pay off the loan later. This method will increase your earnings if the stock s value rises thus making it very popular. On the other hand, if the stock s value falls, you will lose even more money. This is why margin buying is very risky especially at the high rates. When the Stock Market fell, many people went broke. Male investors jumped off the top of buildings because they were in such a bad financial situation. According to the Financial Times, the President of the American Bankers Association said Bankers are gravely alarmed over the mounting volume of credit being employed in carrying security loans, both by brokers and by people. The bankers should have lowered the rates to reduce the negative effects of margin buying. The average rate before October 1929 was 50% 75%. Had it been lowered to 10 percent, the crash would have been shortened to a couple of months. Another big problem that led to the Stock Market Crash was public misconception. The general conception was that the stock market was an easy way to make money. People began believing that stock prices would go up forever. As a result, many people bought publicized stocks ... Despite these overwhelming obstacles Detroit is on the mend, and many see a bright future for this once great city. It is however, important to note that everybody have a weakness, and the same remains true when referring to a cities infrastructure. The most astounding reason for the quick decline of Detroit was the closure of many automotive factories and the deterioration of the American auto industry. Detroit was a city with everything going for it. Its quick economic growth in the early 20th century had a lot to do with its geographical location. It was located close to the nations major coal and iron distributors and it was easily accessible by water via the Detroit River. In this case, a laptop or cell phone can charge itself easily and seamlessly just by being placing inside a room. This is the ability of many experimental wireless power devices that will be adapted to domestic use in the future. Today, the prevailing methods of energy transfer are wires and batteries. Wired connections are perhaps the most common. With this energy transfer method, energy is delivered from a power plant to a home. In the case of batteries, energy is stored as chemical energy in the battery cell. Once it is needed, the chemical energy can be released as electrical energy. However, both these methods have flaws. Both suffer from mild inefficiency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process eliminates the use of wires between the transmitter and receiver therefore making it wireless. For example, solar power is essentially radiative wireless energy transfer. The sun is the transmitter, the photovoltaic solar cell is the receiver, and the sunlight is a high frequency electromagnetic wave (Little et al.). The process can be adapted for everyday use if electricity is transformed into light by a light source and then absorbed by a photocell that transforms the light back into electricity. However, due to issues with efficiency, this application will never be practical unless a more efficient solar cell is developed. Of course, the efficiency can be increased if a focused beam of light is used instead, but this still lags far behind compared to the efficiency of a standard wired connection. For home use, this method is impractical, but in other fields, its advantages outweigh its disadvantages. Radiative energy transfer has many advantages and disadvantages. A distinct disadvantage that makes this method impractical for home use is that the transfer can affect other objects and requires that no object blocks the space between the receiver and transmitter (Kurs et al.). Tagore is a man who believed that the current educational system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child receives when learning from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when he was a child. However, He describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only way for him to escape was to finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the educational system, he had created his own school, where students would learn in a natural atmosphere. To do this, he implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different seasons, and brought in musicians to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced his own songs and writings to show his students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed that schooling should not be a prison, but a way for many to come together and understand other s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a university, but a meeting place for students of all countries and religions to come together to find spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a great meeting place for individuals from all countries where men who believe in spiritual unity can come in touch with their neighbors, (Tagore 44). A set time after VO2 max test was not set, therefore, subjects varied on how many minutes it took to complete the pulmonary function tests after the VO2 max test. The sample size was very small and a very specific population. If a sedentary population would have been tested, results may have been different like in Vendala et al. (2013) research. In Durmic et al. (2017) research MVV and FVC were compared between endurance elite athletes and their age and sex matched sedentary control group. This study found that there is evidence that exercise may affect spirometric indices that can lead to a higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Prostitution And Its Effect On Society Essay For a free society to keep violent crime to a minimum with little disturbance on individual liberty, government should, alongside prosecuting victimless crimes, minimize the opportunity for the corrupt to create victims. Prostitution has been practiced in all ancient and modern cultures. In the United States, prostitution was originally widely legal. Prostitution was made illegal in almost all states between 1910 and 1915 due to the influence of the Woman s Christian Temperance Union which was influential in the banning of drug use and was a major force in the prohibition of alcohol. In 1917 the legally defined prostitution district Storyville in New Orleans was closed down by the Federal government over local objections. In Deadwood, South Dakota, prostitution, while technically illegal, was tolerated by local residents and officials for decades until the last madam was brought down by state and federal authorities for tax evasion in 1980 (Weitzer). Prostitution remained legal in Alaska until 1953, and is still legal in some rural counties of Nevada, including areas outside of Las Vegas. Prostitution is the provision of sexual services for a negotiated payment between consenting adults. Prostitution is a service industry like any other in which people exchange services for money or other reward. No person s human or civil rights should be violated on the basis of their trade, occupation, work, calling or profession. Additionally, no law has ever succeeded in ... • 24. Reflection Paper On Christmas Angels Christmas Angels Christmas in the Chapel has been a huge staple in my childhood, and every year, I ve looked forward to seeing the signing angels from my church Jefferson Street of from Lincoln Christian Church. In January 2015, I was able to join their group, Praise Handmade, and entered the Heavenlies , as we call it, that December. Our Head Angel , Angela, and three other girls, Rebecca, Bethany, and Erin, were in my first group for two years, and they had done it before. I was new to all of this, and I was the youngest and the smallest (I was 11 my first year); being afraid of heights did not help at all. The platform we were on was the highest part on the stage, and there was was nothing to keep us from falling; the stage is about 15 feet into the air. During my first rehearsal on the stage, my skin turned as pale as a ghost and my body was as still as a statue; I was completely petrified. When the song was over, I moved to a lower level of the stage to calm down. One of the angels (I don t remember who) asked me, Are you okay? I told them I was fine, though I was still trembling a little bit from fear. How was I supposed to do it in front of several people if I couldn t even rehearse up there without having a panic attack? Thankfully, I soon got used to the height, though the first time up there every year still makes my heart pound; I think it does for everyone. For my third year, I was able to look up for our last sign for the very first time. The chapel has 5 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Emotions in Negotiations We negotiate every day for different purposes, and each day we experience emotions, both positive and negative. When negotiating, formally or informally, with family or in the organizational workplace we often do not know how to handle ourselves, yet alone the emotions of the other person or group. As educated people, we often try to ignore the influence of emotions on decision making. Neuroscience evidence now shows that sound and rational decision making is contingent on prior accurate emotional processing. The basis for this is the somatic marker hypothesis. The somatic marker hypothesis provides a systems level neuroanatomical and cognitive framework for decision making, the impact, and influence on it by emotions. The key idea of this hypothesis is that decision making is a process that is influenced by marker signals that arise in bio regulatory processes, which includes those that express themselves in emotions and feelings. This influence can occur at multiple levels of operation, some of which occur consciously and some of which occur non consciously (Bechara Damasio, 2000). Essentially, somatic markers are associations of stimuli that induce an associated physiological affective state. We may feel embarrassed; have muscle contractions, experience a heart rate increase, endocrine release, posture, and facial expression changes. These are all a result of somatic marker interpretation. The physiological change occurs in the brain and is relayed to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Influence Of Emmeline s Suffragette Campaigning It is difficult to discern whether the voting rights for women over thirty was influenced by their years of suffragette campaigning, or a prize for their contribution to the war. Nevertheless, the war has removed the many obstacles to gain reformation, and allowing women to prove themselves on the workforce. Emmeline renamed the W.S.P.U to Women s Party, and campaigned tirelessly for her daughter, Christabel, to run in the House of Commons, but lost by a small margin. In the later years, Emmeline became fond of Canada due to her numerous tours of lectures regarding the wickedness of Bolshevism, to America. • 28. Life Without Survival In Pi s Life It is known that one of the most difficult things to do, is survive on sea in terms of a survival situation. (Grade Saver). Surviving on sea is one difficult thing to do on your own although imagine doing it with a Bengal tiger? Not imaginable, but it did happen with Piscine Molitor Patel of Pondicherry India. Pi survives on sea for seven months (227) days from India to the coast of Mexico mentally and physically because he had hope, Richard Parker, and religion. Without these three things he may not have survived because he speaks about the importance of these things to him and the role that they play in his life and the influence they have on him on this treacherous, lengthy journey. Life without meaning brings no hope. Life without hope brings no faith. If you have both it will lead you into the future. (statusmind.com) Pi had hope that allowed him to survive the journey but not all the time, he has lost it a few times when he thought he was going to be eaten by the tiger but it was his morals and his faith that keeps him going. Hope plays a big role in everyone s life. Hope is the belief of what could possibly be and Pi is not sure that he is going to make it out of the sea alive but it gets him to keep pushing when he feels like he is dying or that death is near. • 29. Fishing for Trouble Essay In 1999 near the Galapagos Islands, Rob Stewart, 22, an underwater photographer and filmmaker, was driving when he discovered something that changed his life forever. It was a long line fishing rig hung with hundreds of dead sharks on a single fishing line that Stewart explained had the potential to reach from Earth to space. This fishing line is known by conservationists as a curtain of death (Kielburger). Overfishing is the fishing of a species at levels too high for the species to reproduce. This can greatly reduce fish population and drive species toward extinction. Fishing has provided the world with food and jobs that have remodeled Earth s cultures and lifestyles. Fishing is practiced by local fishermen, commercial fishing rigs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When fish populations are low in one area, fishing boats will need to move to another area where fish are more abundant. This renders oceans and their sea life helpless and severely damaged until all of the fish in the oceans are completely gone. That is why governments need laws establishing the length of time a person could spend at sea fishing, in order to reduce overfishing and increase recovery of fish populations. One example of a fish population suffering from overfishing is the Pacific bluefin tuna. Overfishing has left the world with less than five percent of its Pacific Bluefin tuna, says the Pew Environment Group (Kowalski). This statement explains to the world how overfishing can drastically decrease a species population in an extraordinarily short time period. The Pacific bluefin tuna and other fish are very much stressed by overfishing, and suffer severe losses of population every day. Moreover, overfishing will soon lead to the extinction of fish species like the Pacific bluefin tuna. The European Commission even admits that the EU s [European Union] stocks are 88% overfished ( An Icelandic Success ). This reveals Europe s failure to prevent overfishing from spreading throughout the continent and beyond its borders. The majority of Europe s fish supply undergoes the harmful effects that overfishing brings. Additionally, the fish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Alternate Outcome At Fort Ticonderoga Alternate outcome at Fort Ticonderoga In order to come to an alternative outcome, one must first address the instructional letter sent from General Gage to General Carleton after the battles at Lexington and Concord. The letter took far too long to get to General Carleton. General Gage had credible human intelligence suggesting that the colonists wanted to take Fort Ticonderoga. While one understands that one must use the chain of command, one would think the immediacy of the letter was far more important and should have gone directly to Fort Ticonderoga, instead of the 10 day long ride to Montreal. And even if that was not proper protocol, General Gage could have at least sent an advisor with knowledge of surveillance techniques to Fort Ticonderoga to aid in their post and give better forewarning of a potential attack. Secondly, had the British force at Fort Ticonderoga had cavalry scouts assigned to it, there would not have been much of an American Revolution. The cavalry scouts would have picked up the trail of Colonels Allen, Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys. The Scouts could have performed reconnaissance and then reported back to the garrison commander, putting the whole fort on guard. Then the garrison commander could have contacted both the British sloop in Lake Champlain and the garrison at Fort Crown Point for further aid and reinforcements, beating back the patriot attacking force. Thirdly, with more troops at the fort, the British could have afforded a couple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Iron Curtain Speech Analysis A cold war is a conflict of ideas, an argument more than a fight. In a cold war bombs are not dropped, bullets are not fired. The United States and the Soviet Union fought such a war during the years 1945 through 1991. The United States developed a policy of containment toward the Soviet Union after Winston Churchill s Iron Curtain speech. The speech highlighted the difference in philosophy of government, the US was a Democracy and the Soviet Union was a communist nation. These differences helped heat up the Cold War. It all started on March 5th, 1946, Winston Churchill had just got done telling his speech in retaliation of Stalin s speech. Winston s speech was about how communists were rising to power and how Eastern Europe was divided into two, calling it the iron curtain. Churchill also called on US to help keep Stalin from caging any more nations behind the iron curtain of communist dictatorship and abuse. These two speeches by Stalin and Churchill set the mood for the cold war. The rivalry that advanced between the US and the Soviet Union was power and influence in the world. • 32. The Thought Fox, Two Trees, And Digging Have you ever sat within a group of friends reading poems and getting flattered with the inferences and connections each one of you make? Yes! That is the best thing about poetry; it can be interpreted in several ways. None of them is wrong though. It is just a matter of creativity and imagination. Stumbling across three poems ( The Thought Fox , Two Trees , and Digging ), you can see that each of them may look different. However, in some way, they all relate! The poems include various forms of creativity and art; yet, they all contribute in describing the process of writing a poem in their own unique styles. What is special about the poem is that it is open to various interpretations and points of view; the reader can think about it in one way today, and in another the next day, which is actually quite enthralling. Concerning the paraphrasable content, Paterson is talking about two men, one who had a clear image of what he is doing and took care of his trees, and another who bought the house who did not have a vision and messed up everything. Well, this is how it may seem from the first look; however, after being attached to the poem and reading it again, you will notice another aspect. You will notice that the poem is basically a long metaphor about relationships. It shows how a person can be devoted and dedicated to someone that they are mainly rooted to them; things will take their time, but once the two persons are lashed tight , all the good memories will happen, hope will always be there just like the two lights in the dark leaves , and moments will be mesmerizing just like magic . After that, conflicts and problems start popping up leading to separation and the end of the relationship. During this stage, Paterson uses jarring phrases such as led him to take his axe and split the bole demonstrating the cruelty of breaking up that it even buries the couple in two holes . Even though everything is just as close as four yards , yet it lost them everything and made them desperate to meet again. At the end of the poem, Paterson tries to contradict this long metaphor by saying trees are all this poem is about , but deep readers will know that it just an attempt from him to grab further attention to the idea! He uses rhyming couplets throughout the poem to enchant the readers and give the poem a sort of a tale feeling. Now the hypnotizing part is here!
