Nietzsche s Contradictory Concept Of Freedom
The concept of freedom is contradictory in the Genealogy of Morals: for Nietzsche, true freedom will
occur when every individual can live according to their true nature; however, this version of freedom
would allow the strong to easily enslave the weak, negating any possibility of true freedom for an
entire society. Thus, any theory of morality that seeks to explain this concept of freedom must be able
to reconcile the contradiction it produces. Gandhi s Hind Swaraj comes close to being able to resolve
Nietzsche s contradictory concept of freedom, but applying Gandhi in this way highlights his own
difficulty situating freedom within his theory of home rule. With close analysis of passages from
Nietzsche s On the Genealogy of Morals and Gandhi s Hind Swaraj, the reader discovers that,
according to how one defines freedom, he or she will perceive an individual who they believe to be
truly free as having achieved moral perfection.
In Genealogy of Morals, Nietzsche s appeal to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As aforementioned, in Nietzsche s ideal society in which all are free to live according to their natures,
the strong would quickly enslave the weak. Adding Gandhi s path to freedom to Nietzsche s ideal
moral code equation would resolve the complications it produces because of Gandhi s association with
the weak. Gandhi claims that every reform must be preceded by discontent (23). In order for the weak
to commence their journey to becoming passive resisters, they must first experience unrest. Similarly,
Nietzsche believes that slave morality always first needs a hostile external world (37); and, his ideal
moral code produces this hostile environment that will generate unrest within the weak. However,
instead of seeking to change the moral code as they have done in the past, the weak would begin to
walk Gandhi s path to true

Friends And Such Good Friends Judith Viorst
In the reading, Friends, Good Friends and Such Good Friends, Judith Viorst illustrated that friends are
ranked based on their usefulness, closeness and truthfulness. I agree with the writer as the usefulness
of friends can determine their level of significance in one s life. Firstly, a friend who has the capability
to provide the help required for another would be perceived as more noteworthy. For instance, imagine
if Bill Gates offered to be your pal and forked out ten million dollars to clear your colossal debts,
would he not be immediately shot up to the top of your friends list? Secondly, the level of closeness is
crucial in shaping the rating of a friend. One would only consider another a good friend if both of

In The Time Of The Butterflies And Empress Orchid
In a metaphorical sense, Stanley Kunitz depicts human experiences through the piece The Layers as
all unfolding along the same constraints while in a constant struggle against mankind s free will. That
being said, the layers discussed in the verse above could be seen as the passage of time, each era
building upon those that came before it. This linear motion of time continues infinitely, yet is
paralleled by the rise and fall of empires, nations, and peoples across the globe. Both the novel In the
Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, and Empress Orchid by Anchee Min each highlight their own
eras, each its own layer. Although centuries apart, these two works coincide in the perspectives taken
on their respective time period through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both novels each woman had a set way of perceiving the world, regardless of the fact they had not
yet encountered hardships based upon the gender norms of her society, either imperial China or
dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. Both Patria and Nuharoo were women, who after being
exposed to the gender bias of both their cultures, took on roles that fit within those parameters in
hopes of leading fulfilling lives as mothers and wives. Patria was coming out, hands first, as if
reaching up for something...[her] mind, [her] heart, [her] soul in the clouds. It took some doing and
undoing to bring [her] down to earth (Alvarez 44). In this sense Patria turned to religion and her faith
to guide her in her journey towards a good life and in turn following the traditional roles laid out for
her. She was willing to be as selfless as possible in order to ensure a place in heaven and a good
connotation to her name. This same saint like trait corresponds to that of Nuharoo who removed her
necklace and bracelets and took down her hairpins (Min 135). She was willing to give up some of her
most prized possessions in order to help pay for the growing damage caused by mass famine. This
action perfectly correspond with the notion that women must do

Media Coursework Production Evaluation ( 760 Words )
A2 Media Coursework Production Evaluation (760 WORDS)
The focus of my investigation was to analyse the representation of women in horror films. The films I
had selected were Resident Evil Retribution (2012) and Halloween (1978). In the film, Resident Evil
Retribution, the representation of women was stronger, whereas Halloween represented females as
weak and vulnerable as they were from a different epoch. I have used codes and conventions and also
subverted the representation of women in my opening sequence of the horror film.
The codes and conventions I discovered include:
ā¦ Females are represented as weak and vulnerable
ā¦ The close up on Halima s face screaming (Elder Sister)
The subversion of stereotypes of Trapped 2016
ā¦The females are not sexually objectified
ā¦ Females from an Islamic background
The opening sequence I have created has similar conventions to Halloween (1978). During the closing
equilibrium of Judith Myer screaming, implies that she is weak and vulnerable, likewise I have
included this in my horror film, where both of the young, female characters scream once they see the
person with the anonymous mask. The purpose of including this element is to ensure the film is easy
to market success, as stated by Steve Neal that if there are repertoires of elements in a film, audiences
are more likely to see it as it follows the codes and conventions.
I have selected a medium shot to ensure the audience clearly see the character s body and it provides

Black Rights
Write a full account on the struggle for racial equality in post war America.
During World War II, around one million black men served in the army. They were in different units to
the white men. Riots and fights occurred when black men from northern America had to face the
discrimination in the south during training. This lessoned peoples opinion of them, in a prejudice way.
They were never allowed to join the Marines or the Air Corps, but this changed for the first time
during the war due to the military needs. After the war, blacks began to challenge their status as
second class citizens. After their country fighting Nazi Germany, who killed six million Jews, and a

A similar incident happened when a young man tried to enrol for the University of Mississippi, an all
white university. An angry mob and the governor of Mississippi tried to stop him. The case was
brought to court by the NAACP and won the right for him to enrol. President Kennedy also sent
troops in to protect the young man when he was enrolling but riots broke out ending in 375 people
injured and two dead. The rest of the state universities in the south were slowly desegregated.
In the north, blacks and whites attended different schools because they lived in different parts of the
city or state. The laws to desegregate the schools were not just for the south. So they brought in
bussing. This meant that black children could get the bus to white schools that had been desegregated
so there was a racial balance in the schools. A lot of northern cities resisted this court order, and some
cities even fire bombed the buses. To get around these laws, many white people sent their children to
private schools. Most black children stayed in public schools due to lack of money.
There wasn t just racial segregation in schools. Restaurants and buses are just a couple of the other
places where racial segregation occurred. Racial segregation on public transport was enforced by the
Jim Crow laws. This meant that blacks had to sit at the back of the bus, whites at the front. A black
person had to give up his seat if

Sign Here If You Exist By Jill Sisson Quinn
Austrian British philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein once said, The real question of life after death isn t
whether or not it exists, but even if it does what problem this really solves. The idea that death is
inevitable is well known by everyone, yet no one is certain as to what happens afterwards. Even
though the subject of life after death has been argued for centuries by many philosophers and
theologians. In the article Sign Here If You Exist, Jill Sisson Quinn adequately employs figurative
language, rhetoric questionings, and personal anecdotes to demonstrate a controversial argument on
the topic of life after death. In her article, Quinn uses multiple figurative languages to strengthen her
claim that life after death does not exist. This is a very opinionated piece therefore using figurative
language such as metaphors, simile, diction and symbols help enhance the validity of the author s
argument, while effectively giving her opinion to the readers in a subdued manner. Quinn s use of the
Ichneumon wasp as a symbol for the process of human life is a subtle way of writing it. Her article
starts off with a detailed description of the physical features of a Female Giant Ichneumon Wasp,
which then proceeds to a biology based background explanation on the specie. During her
descriptions, Quinn uses carefully chosen words that is meant to let the reader go beyond imagining
the wasp and to think of it as something more. She explains Her overall appearance of fragility the

How Bill Gates Has The World s Most Successful Man
Bill Gates has always been known for being one of the world s most successful man. It is largely
known that he, with Steve Ballmer, created Microsoft both the software and the company. Microsoft is
one of the world s most popular computer software companies that was created by Gates and Ballmer
in 1972 at least that s when the idea was formed. But what many people don t know or don t realize is
that fact that both Ballmer and Gates were college dropouts. They weren t dropouts from just any
college, though, but from Harvard University. Now, Gates often jokes about how he is, according to
Crimson, Harvard s most successful dropout . In his 2007 Harvard Commencement Address, Gates
uses three key factors to make his speech a greatly memorable one. He used humor, seriousness, and
motivation all in an adequate way that helped his speech be one for the books.
For example, after addressing the listeners, Gates uses the following quote to open up his speech and
hook his listeners attention; I ve been waiting more than 30 years to say this: Dad, I always told you I
d come back and get my degree . That immediately results in laughter from the crowd. From then on,
the humor and laughter continues for the majority of the opening. Gates proceeds to joke about how
Crimson s quote makes me (Gates) valedictorian of my (Gates) own special class...I (Gates) did the
best of everyone who failed . He also jokingly says how he is a bad influence and that is why he was

Fred Astaire s Ability To Dance
Fred Astaire, a well known stage and film dancer, is considered to be one of the best American dancers
of all time. His classiness and his ability to be light on his feet developed the musical film industry
into what it is today. Astaire s dancing style seemed effortless with exceptionally fast footwork.
However, his grace required endless hours of practice, but it wasn t all for nothing. There wasn t a
movie back in the 1920 s that didn t require some form of dancing and his ability to look classy
eventually landed him a signature role. Gene Kelly, a world famous Irish dancer said, he can give
people pleasure just by walking across the floor. In his younger years, Fred was considered to be frail
and weak in comparison to other boys of his age. His mother, Johanna Geilus, was his initial push into
dancing hoping he would develop a greater athletic figure. Over time, his ability to dance began to
come naturally and complimented that of his sister s style. Fred was considered to be more of an

to be on the forefront of acting again. Fred Astaire continued to make more films including one of his
most famous musical hits, Funny Face (1957) with Audrey Hepburn. To this day, Funny Face is still
regarded as one of the best musical style films ever made. His final film appearance was in John Irvin
s Ghost Story (1981). Due to his age, this was a smaller role for a horror novel adaptation.
Astaire contributed his wonderful dancing to dozens of films. Throughout his film career, he won
numerous outstanding awards including two Golden Globe awards, three Emmy awards, and one

very diverse student body and as students transition into becoming teachers having gained skills with
diversity issues will help greatly in dealing with diversity in the classroom.
Along with dealing with diversity future teachers will have to collaborate and communicate
effectively with fellow teachers and administration at the school. Participating in collaborative
activities will prepare students for being effective communicators in the classroom. Learning new
technologies will greatly benefit future teachers with effective communication tools in the classroom

Japan Baseball History
The sport of baseball was not established until the late 1800 s. The sport was not played at the
collegiate or even pro level until the early 1900 s. Whenever the first colleges started playing baseball,
there were two colleges that aided in the help to form the Tokyo Big Six University League: Keio and
Waseda. There was also a high school championship that occurred in Osaka, which helped spark the
love of baseball across the nation. The country of Japan didn t have a professional team at this time,

Pacific League and the Central League. Each of these leagues were made up of six teams that played
each other up until the Japan Series, as well as the All Star game. Despite the many athletes that Japan
has, not very many of them went on to play in the Major League. One major factor that kept Japanese
players from playing in the Major League during this time was World War II. The Japanese players
felt that they shouldn t leave their country during that time of turmoil, so many of them turned down
contracts to play in the majors. Another reason many of them stayed to play in Japan was the contracts
that many of them had with the NPB. Around 2000, the NPB and MLB worked out the differences, in
order for Japanese players to play in the MLB without there being consequences because of their NPB

Federal Emergency Management Agency System
Allison Taggart Federal Emergency Management Agency SEMT335 E1WW January 31, 2015 Federal
Emergency Management Agency Creation The Federal Emergency Management Agency can be traced
back to the Congressional Act of 1803. This act was the result of an extensive fire in a New
Hampshire town needing assistance, and is generally considered to be the first piece of disaster
legislation (About the Agency, 2014). Over the next century or so, disaster legislation was put to use
in response to natural disasters including hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, tornados, etc. approximately
100 times. The Disaster Relief Act of 1950 gave the President authority to issue disaster declarations
that allowed Federal agencies to provide direct assistance to State and local governments (IS 230,
2014). This creation of legislation led to a complex system of agencies, programs, policies which
often overlapped between state and local governments. Because of this, the National Governor s
Association asked President Carter to centralize federal emergency functions. FEMA was signed into
law on April 1, 1979 by President Carter through Executive Order 12127 (IS 230, 2014). However,
during the 1980 s there were not many large scale disasters in which the agency needed to respond and
it became a quiet administrative department. Then, in 1992 Hurricane Andrew, a category 5 hurricane,
struck Florida leaving thousands of citizens without food or water. Local agencies had to wait five

Specializations of The U.S. Special Operations Teams
The U.S. Special Operations Teams are some of the toughest men in the entire world and are trained to
endure the most extreme conditions in order to be properly prepared to serve and defend our country,
The United States of America. There are three different branches of protection in The United States:
the Navy, the Army, and the Air Force. Accordingly, each of these has its own tribute to the Special
Operations Forces. The Navy contributes the Navy SEALs, the Air Force provides Air Force SOCOM,
and the Army provides the Green Berets, Delta Force, and the Rangers. Each of these sectors is very
selective and secretive. The SEALs are likely the most highly trained forces out of all of the Special
Operations Units. SEAL stands for Sea, Air, and Land team. The SEALs must know how to do many
different things. The SEALs are commandos, which is a soldier who is in the United States Special
Operations who specializes in water landings, parachuting, and repelling down mountains. These
commandos must also know how to take down enemies while in various places including underwater,
in speedboats, helicopters, while parachuting, or by land espionage (Stanley). Their job is complicated
because they must know how to do what the Air Force Units do such as parachuting, how to deal with

For the Central Avenue project there was a near total absence of structures (Paul 1998, 18) and thus

Essay On Home Equity Line Of Credit
Home Equity Line of Credit
Let s set the stage by stating that a home equity line of credit is an effective financial tool for some
folks. It is a variable rate revolving credit line that uses the equity in your home as collateral.
The word equity in home equity line of credit is defined as the difference between your home s market
value and the amount outstanding on your mortgage. It s similar to having a credit card with a low
interest rate and high credit limit.
One important point to bear in mind is that a home equity line of credit is not your traditional loan. A
home equity line of credit is very closely related to a home equity loan but the subtle differences
between the two can mean a lot.
Not Your Standard Home Equity Loan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The home equity line of credit is a better match than a home equity loan if you have to to have access
to funds for more than one academic period for instance (each semester over the next four years). And
best of all, the interest is generally tax deductible (discuss with your tax advisor for additional
information).
A home equity line of credit is one of the most practical tools that a homeowner can have in his or her
financial arsenal. Available to qualifying homeowners, it is a smart choice for financing nearly
anything. They are a great way to consolidate high interest credit cards, free up money for home
improvements or get your kids off to college.
Pay Interest Only On the Amount You Use
Another of the positive aspects is that it can sit idle until you need it. Once you are approved, you
withdraw the cash as the need arises. The great thing about this is that you simply pay interest on the
credit you use, saving you hundreds or even thousands of dollars each year on interest payments. A
home equity line of credit is an efficient tool because you only meet with interest charges when you
tap the line.
Once your home equity line of credit is set up, you ll have access to an continuing source of low cost
funds to use as you see fit. The interest is normally lower than other types of credit and as we
mentioned above, an additional benefit is that the interest is often tax deductible.
A home equity line of credit is excellent for emergencies and debt

This myth pertains to modern day internal conflicts people have. They struggle, try to put it off, stress
to keep their secret from coming out, and create an escape route without taking the blame. Or create a
lame excuse to excuse themselves entirely. This is what initially Acrisius had done once receiving the
prophecy from Delphi, a priestess, that [one day] his daughter would [conceive] a son who would kill
him (Hamilton, Edith). Continuing through the myth, Acrisius is characterized as a wealthy King who
cares more for his willpower to live since the only reason Danae was never killed in the beginning was
because of his fear from the Gods, and to contain all his power, especially since he had wanted a son.
He never really cared for Danae, even though she was beautiful above all the other women of the land,
but this was small comfort to the King for not having a son (Hamilton, Edith).
So Danae endured...to change the glad daylight for brass bound walls...that

Peter Kramer s Listening To Prozac
Book Summary Peter Kramer s book, Listening to Prozac investigates the use of the medication
fluoxetine, or better known as Prozac. Prozac is a selective serotonin inhibitor (SSRI) which means
that it affects chemicals in the brain believed to responsible for depression, anxiety, and obsessive
compulsive symptoms. Prozac is prescribed to treat these mental illnesses and is currently one of the
most widely used antidepressants used in the United States. According to Kramer s book, not only
does Prozac treat depression but it make people feel better than well. It was explained in this book that
Prozac can transform the client s behavior. Early in the book Kramer discusses the case of a woman
named Tess. Tess had a difficult childhood and was at the time clinically depressed. She was a parental
child meaning that she had to take on the role of her absent parents (pg. 3). Tess present life was ...

She meets at least 4 criteria including: preoccupation with organization and details, shows
perfectionism that interferes with task completion, is inflexible about values, is reluctant to delegate
task to others, and shows rigidity or stubbornness . Kramer never gave a formal diagnosis of
Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder but rather suggested that Julia s symptoms matched
several criteria but they were not enough to diagnose. However, it appears by using the DSM V rather
than the DSM IV, a diagnosis is able to be obtained. In Kramer s book Julia is eventually prescribed
Prozac and sees a drastic change in her personality. After the effects of the drug took affect Julia felt
that her life much like Tess had be transformed. She was able to get along with her children better and
she was able to enjoy her marriage more. When her medication was decreased, Julia reported that
many of her symptoms reappeared and she stated I don t feel like myself (Kramer, 1993 pg. 29).

Facets Of Motherhood
MOTHERHOOD AS INSTITUTION AND EXPERIENCE: A STUDY OF THE POEM AN
INTRODUCTION BY KAMALA DAS. By: JASVEERA PARMAR
ABSTRACT This paper is based on the two facets of motherhood, as postulated by the feminist
theory. The first is the political facet, in which motherhood as an institution serves to enslave a
woman. This opinion was entertained by the second wave feminists, who supported the view that
institutionalisation of motherhood served the patriarchal design. The second is the personal facet, in
which motherhood as an experience serves to empower a woman. This view is supported by the third
wave feminists, who proposed maternal revivalism to encourage women to empower themselves
through motherhood. Kamala Das poem An Introduction has been analysed to explore this theory.
KEYWORDS: Experience, feminism, facet, institution, motherhood.
INTRODUCTION
The feminist approaches, on the issue of motherhood, show that in the late 1970s the feminist views
regarding motherhood and mothering were totally anti women and pro patriarchy; it was only the

Matrix Essay
Epistemology is the nature of knowledge. Knowledge is important when considering what is reality
and what is deception. The movie The Matrix displays a social deception in which Neo, the main
character, is caught between what he thought was once reality and a whole new world that controls
everything he thought was real. If I were Neo, I would not truly be able to know that I was in the
matrix. However, it is rational to believe that I am in the matrix and will eventually enter back into my
reality later. The proof that that I can know that I am in the matrix and that I will return to reality
comes from the responses of foundationalism, idealism, and pallibalism.
To begin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once you know what you are sure of, you can build up knowledge from there. Many wonder how we
can wonder we are not dreaming. Some agree that you cannot feel pain in a dream, but others say they
have. The argument that dreams are not related to memory is strong because most people do not
remember their dreams. Descartes explains that in a dream you can feel as if you are using all of your
senses, but they seem to be more vague than when awake. Descartes struggles with the dream issue
until he comes upon his conclusion. I now notice that there is a vast difference between [being asleep
and being awake], in that dreams are never linked by memory with all the other actions of life as
waking experiences are. ... But when I distinctly see where things come from and where and when
they come to me, and when I can connect my perceptions of them with the whole of the rest of my life
without a break, then I am quite certain that when I encounter these things I am not asleep but awake.
(Med. 6, AT 7:89 90) (Lex, Newman) This dream argument attributes to how we can know anything.
For Neo s sake it helps him decide weather he is really in the matrix or not.
In addition to foundationalism proving that knowledge is built up from what we are certain of,
idealism plays an important role of arguing that all reality is in the mind. Descartes argument for
idealism explains how knowledge of reality is possible. He goes through the process of using an
example like a pen and

Analysis Of Aphra Behn s Oroonoko
Aphra Behn, since the start of story Oroonoko takes on an apologetic tone in her narration of the story.
She starts of by apologizing (examples) as to the form of her writing and why she writes some parts of
the story while omitting others. It is not fully understood whether when Behn refers to being a female
pen she does so in a sarcastic way or with a deeper meaning, giving a double sense to her story. That
although she writes about a male character, she decides to write and exalt those parts of his life that
were influenced by a woman, making them as something as a very meaningful part of his story that
influenced his actions, exalting the role of a woman in this great man s life.
First of all speaking of the characterization of women in her story, we see that women are treated
merely as objects and do not have the power to make decisions for themselves, they are mostly always
under the strict rule of a man. Starting off with the character of Imoinda, we see that she only has a
considerable power because of her beauty. It is because of her beauty and her shy manner that
Oroonoko finds her so attractive, and therefore decides to marry her and have her as his only wife for
the rest of his life. After getting married, Imoinda is called by the King of Kalimenes to join his
multitude of wives. The only reason that Imoinda can proclaim to let her be slightly safe from the king
is to tell him that she is married; meaning that only by being under the protection of marriage to

Rituals Of Nacirema
Culture is very fascinating becasue it entails so many elements. Differences in food, talk, dress,
religious beliefs and even schooling often determine what region you are from in the U.S. much less

It is hard to understand how they have managed to exist so long under the burdens with which they
have imposed upon themselves. (Miner, p507). The fascinating thing about this society is that they
have a seemingly possessed fixation with the mouth. It s both admired and despised simutaneously. To
them it is the gateway to both lasting or doomed friendship as well as the riddence or existance of
physical and mental illness.

A Summary Of The Film Iron Jawed Angels
Women have been fighting for equal rights for quite some time here in the United States. As stated in
Chapter 3 of Gendered Lives by Julia T. Wood and Natalie Fixmer Oraiz, there have been three waves
of women s movements in the United States alone. The first wave starting as early as 1840, and the
third wave still continuing to this very day. However, the first wave, that started in the 1840 s and
lasted until around the 1960 s will be the main focus of this paper. This first wave came about as an
ideology of liberal feminism. Fixmer Oraiz and Wood describes liberal feminism as the idea that
women and men are alike and equal in most respects. Therefore, goes the reasoning they should have
equal rights, roles, and opportunities (Gendered Lives, p58). The ideology of liberal feminism is
represented profoundly, especially as far as women rights to vote, in the 2004 film Iron Jawed Angels.
This paper aims to discuss the first wave of women s movements in the United States as represented in
the movie Iron Jawed Angels, as well as the impact of this movement on gender, and an emotional
reaction to the movie itself. Before discussing the movie, a brief summary of the first wave, and what
it entailed will be provided. The main focus of the first wave was to gain basic civil rights for women.
According to Fixmer Oraiz and Wood it all started when Lucretia Coffin Mott and Elizabeth Cady
Stanton met at an international antislavery convention and were both denied entry based on

Manager Role in Implementing Change There are successful ways to implement changes in many

they ever managed the old way. Overall, they feel good about the change and accept it as the status

or determine how long changes will take to implement. If employees were not aware that any changes
were required then reaction of employee may be, why change if change is not working or that the
change was a waste of time. Mangers should be ready for the resistance to any change, prepare for it,
and make special efforts to assess and deal with individual reactions to change. A manager or a person
in leadership must develop a proper attitude toward the resistance of change that their employee may
have. Looking at the thoughts that many may have and carefully listen to their concerns is something
that managers must do to help with the resistance of the change. Engaging many with the change
should be done after fully understanding the concerns of others. The best way to minimize resistance
to change is to involve those who is responsible for the change and those who are affected by it.
Consulting employees from the areas affected first hand and not leaving in the dark is another method
of handling resistance. With involving those who are affected a test run of the new changes could help

Characters Of A Dog In The Golden Compass, By Philip Pullman
Three years ago, my family adopted a dog. I ending up being the one who was most reluctant to
making the final decision and still was even after he had entered our family. I was the one who
thought of all the negatives for we don t need a dog incorporated into our busy lives. For the first few
weeks I did not like this dog, and the dog new it. Over time, I started to relate and bond with this dog.
I saw how he was different, he did not act like a normal dog of his breed, different from the rest. I find
the same thing in myself in my family, not like the others, but were both of us are still included and
loved. Now, the dog that I didn t want and I are closer than any of my other family members are with
him. In the novel The Golden Compass, the author Philip Pullman develops a similar type of
relationship for each of his characters called daemons. These companions reflect a certain person s
identity, soul, and changes in feeling through their different forms, usually as animals. I am being
considered for Mr. Pullman s next novel and he has asked me to develop daemons of my own for the
next book in his series. After a few days of thinking I have decided on three animals that would be a
great representation of me in daemon form, an owl, a lemur, and a butterfly. Throughout my academic
career I have tended to be a good student who got excellent in elementary school and straight A s in
middle school. So what better daemon to have than owl to represent this side of me. I tend to have the
ability to understand concepts and make them concrete easily when explained complete and
thoroughly. This form of myself not only comes during school work but any time that I have to be
analytical. One place that I have to show my thinking is on the tennis court, a sport that I play year
round. Tennis is very much a mind game and at my higher level of play, I am forced to compete more
and more strategically while also maintaining my consistent fundamental skills. This means observing
what your opponents weakness is and applying it to the match so swing it into your favor. Placement,
direction, speed, spin, are all things that need to be considered during every point. My owl is not only
limited to its analytical side but its

The Music Of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an Austrian composer who mastered the range of contemporary
modern instrumental and vocal forms including the symphony, concerto, chamber music, and
especially in the opera.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria. Mozart mom and dad,
stressed about the importance music to their children. Wolfgang received in depth musical training
that by the age of six he was a rising composer and a soon to be keyboard performer. In 1762 Mozart
dad presented him as a performer at the imperial court in Vienna, Austria, and from 1763 to 1766 he
lead both of his children on a continuous musical tour across.
Mozart was the most praised child prodigy of this time as a keyboard performer. He also made a great
impression as a composer. In London he won the admiration of musician Johann Christian Bach and
he was exposed from an early age to different variety of musical styles across Europe.
Although he had great musical ability, Mozart s lack of a normal childhood caused him much
suffering. During his youth, Mozart was constantly in the news and was extravagantly acclaimed by
all. He was well aware of his precious talent and developed an arrogant and overly confident
demeanor. He had little discipline and maturity outside the subject of music. Mozart frequently went
through periods of financial difficulty.
At age 4 Wolfgang himself began keyboard lessons playing without fault and with great sensitivity,

  • 2. Nietzsche s Contradictory Concept Of Freedom The concept of freedom is contradictory in the Genealogy of Morals: for Nietzsche, true freedom will occur when every individual can live according to their true nature; however, this version of freedom would allow the strong to easily enslave the weak, negating any possibility of true freedom for an entire society. Thus, any theory of morality that seeks to explain this concept of freedom must be able to reconcile the contradiction it produces. Gandhi s Hind Swaraj comes close to being able to resolve Nietzsche s contradictory concept of freedom, but applying Gandhi in this way highlights his own difficulty situating freedom within his theory of home rule. With close analysis of passages from Nietzsche s On the Genealogy of Morals and Gandhi s Hind Swaraj, the reader discovers that, according to how one defines freedom, he or she will perceive an individual who they believe to be truly free as having achieved moral perfection. In Genealogy of Morals, Nietzsche s appeal to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As aforementioned, in Nietzsche s ideal society in which all are free to live according to their natures, the strong would quickly enslave the weak. Adding Gandhi s path to freedom to Nietzsche s ideal moral code equation would resolve the complications it produces because of Gandhi s association with the weak. Gandhi claims that every reform must be preceded by discontent (23). In order for the weak to commence their journey to becoming passive resisters, they must first experience unrest. Similarly, Nietzsche believes that slave morality always first needs a hostile external world (37); and, his ideal moral code produces this hostile environment that will generate unrest within the weak. However, instead of seeking to change the moral code as they have done in the past, the weak would begin to walk Gandhi s path to true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Friends And Such Good Friends Judith Viorst In the reading, Friends, Good Friends and Such Good Friends, Judith Viorst illustrated that friends are ranked based on their usefulness, closeness and truthfulness. I agree with the writer as the usefulness of friends can determine their level of significance in one s life. Firstly, a friend who has the capability to provide the help required for another would be perceived as more noteworthy. For instance, imagine if Bill Gates offered to be your pal and forked out ten million dollars to clear your colossal debts, would he not be immediately shot up to the top of your friends list? Secondly, the level of closeness is crucial in shaping the rating of a friend. One would only consider another a good friend if both of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. In The Time Of The Butterflies And Empress Orchid In a metaphorical sense, Stanley Kunitz depicts human experiences through the piece The Layers as all unfolding along the same constraints while in a constant struggle against mankind s free will. That being said, the layers discussed in the verse above could be seen as the passage of time, each era building upon those that came before it. This linear motion of time continues infinitely, yet is paralleled by the rise and fall of empires, nations, and peoples across the globe. Both the novel In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, and Empress Orchid by Anchee Min each highlight their own eras, each its own layer. Although centuries apart, these two works coincide in the perspectives taken on their respective time period through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both novels each woman had a set way of perceiving the world, regardless of the fact they had not yet encountered hardships based upon the gender norms of her society, either imperial China or dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. Both Patria and Nuharoo were women, who after being exposed to the gender bias of both their cultures, took on roles that fit within those parameters in hopes of leading fulfilling lives as mothers and wives. Patria was coming out, hands first, as if reaching up for something...[her] mind, [her] heart, [her] soul in the clouds. It took some doing and undoing to bring [her] down to earth (Alvarez 44). In this sense Patria turned to religion and her faith to guide her in her journey towards a good life and in turn following the traditional roles laid out for her. She was willing to be as selfless as possible in order to ensure a place in heaven and a good connotation to her name. This same saint like trait corresponds to that of Nuharoo who removed her necklace and bracelets and took down her hairpins (Min 135). She was willing to give up some of her most prized possessions in order to help pay for the growing damage caused by mass famine. This action perfectly correspond with the notion that women must do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Media Coursework Production Evaluation ( 760 Words ) A2 Media Coursework Production Evaluation (760 WORDS) The focus of my investigation was to analyse the representation of women in horror films. The films I had selected were Resident Evil Retribution (2012) and Halloween (1978). In the film, Resident Evil Retribution, the representation of women was stronger, whereas Halloween represented females as weak and vulnerable as they were from a different epoch. I have used codes and conventions and also subverted the representation of women in my opening sequence of the horror film. The codes and conventions I discovered include: ā¦ Females are represented as weak and vulnerable ā¦ The close up on Halima s face screaming (Elder Sister) The subversion of stereotypes of Trapped 2016 ā¦The females are not sexually objectified ā¦ Females from an Islamic background The opening sequence I have created has similar conventions to Halloween (1978). During the closing equilibrium of Judith Myer screaming, implies that she is weak and vulnerable, likewise I have included this in my horror film, where both of the young, female characters scream once they see the person with the anonymous mask. The purpose of including this element is to ensure the film is easy to market success, as stated by Steve Neal that if there are repertoires of elements in a film, audiences are more likely to see it as it follows the codes and conventions. I have selected a medium shot to ensure the audience clearly see the character s body and it provides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This lessoned peoples opinion of them, in a prejudice way. They were never allowed to join the Marines or the Air Corps, but this changed for the first time during the war due to the military needs. A similar incident happened when a young man tried to enrol for the University of Mississippi, an all white university. An angry mob and the governor of Mississippi tried to stop him. The case was brought to court by the NAACP and won the right for him to enrol. President Kennedy also sent troops in to protect the young man when he was enrolling but riots broke out ending in 375 people injured and two dead. The rest of the state universities in the south were slowly desegregated. In the north, blacks and whites attended different schools because they lived in different parts of the city or state. The laws to desegregate the schools were not just for the south. So they brought in bussing. This meant that black children could get the bus to white schools that had been desegregated so there was a racial balance in the schools. A lot of northern cities resisted this court order, and some cities even fire bombed the buses. To get around these laws, many white people sent their children to private schools. Most black children stayed in public schools due to lack of money. There wasn t just racial segregation in schools. Restaurants and buses are just a couple of the other places where racial segregation occurred. Racial segregation on public transport was enforced by the Jim Crow laws. The idea that death is inevitable is well known by everyone, yet no one is certain as to what happens afterwards. Even though the subject of life after death has been argued for centuries by many philosophers and theologians. In the article Sign Here If You Exist, Jill Sisson Quinn adequately employs figurative language, rhetoric questionings, and personal anecdotes to demonstrate a controversial argument on the topic of life after death. In her article, Quinn uses multiple figurative languages to strengthen her claim that life after death does not exist. This is a very opinionated piece therefore using figurative language such as metaphors, simile, diction and symbols help enhance the validity of the author s argument, while effectively giving her opinion to the readers in a subdued manner. Quinn s use of the Ichneumon wasp as a symbol for the process of human life is a subtle way of writing it. Her article starts off with a detailed description of the physical features of a Female Giant Ichneumon Wasp, which then proceeds to a biology based background explanation on the specie. During her descriptions, Quinn uses carefully chosen words that is meant to let the reader go beyond imagining the wasp and to think of it as something more. Federal Emergency Management Agency System Allison Taggart Federal Emergency Management Agency SEMT335 E1WW January 31, 2015 Federal Emergency Management Agency Creation The Federal Emergency Management Agency can be traced back to the Congressional Act of 1803. This act was the result of an extensive fire in a New Hampshire town needing assistance, and is generally considered to be the first piece of disaster legislation (About the Agency, 2014). Over the next century or so, disaster legislation was put to use in response to natural disasters including hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, tornados, etc. approximately 100 times. The Disaster Relief Act of 1950 gave the President authority to issue disaster declarations that allowed Federal agencies to provide direct assistance to State and local governments (IS 230, 2014). This creation of legislation led to a complex system of agencies, programs, policies which often overlapped between state and local governments. Because of this, the National Governor s Association asked President Carter to centralize federal emergency functions. FEMA was signed into law on April 1, 1979 by President Carter through Executive Order 12127 (IS 230, 2014). • 33. Characters Of A Dog In The Golden Compass, By Philip Pullman Three years ago, my family adopted a dog. I ending up being the one who was most reluctant to making the final decision and still was even after he had entered our family. I was the one who thought of all the negatives for we don t need a dog incorporated into our busy lives. For the first few weeks I did not like this dog, and the dog new it. Over time, I started to relate and bond with this dog. I saw how he was different, he did not act like a normal dog of his breed, different from the rest. I find the same thing in myself in my family, not like the others, but were both of us are still included and loved. Now, the dog that I didn t want and I are closer than any of my other family members are with him. In the novel The Golden Compass, the author Philip Pullman develops a similar type of relationship for each of his characters called daemons. These companions reflect a certain person s identity, soul, and changes in feeling through their different forms, usually as animals. I am being considered for Mr. Pullman s next novel and he has asked me to develop daemons of my own for the next book in his series. After a few days of thinking I have decided on three animals that would be a great representation of me in daemon form, an owl, a lemur, and a butterfly. Throughout my academic career I have tended to be a good student who got excellent in elementary school and straight A s in middle school. So what better daemon to have than owl to represent this side of me. I tend to have the ability to understand concepts and make them concrete easily when explained complete and thoroughly. This form of myself not only comes during school work but any time that I have to be analytical. One place that I have to show my thinking is on the tennis court, a sport that I play year round. Tennis is very much a mind game and at my higher level of play, I am forced to compete more and more strategically while also maintaining my consistent fundamental skills. This means observing what your opponents weakness is and applying it to the match so swing it into your favor. Placement, direction, speed, spin, are all things that need to be considered during every point. My owl is not only limited to its analytical side but its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
