Gulliver s Travels By Jonathan Swift
A Humbling Inspiration In 1726 author Jonathan Swift published a satirical, narrative entitled Gulliver
s Travels (Davis, Harrison and Johnson 229). Gulliver s Travels is a novel that has continued to
contribute and thrive in both literature and the film genres. Swift uses comical events and
extraordinary characters to address moral issues that remain decades later in today s society. Gulliver s
Travels has since been reproduced in the film industry multiple times, most recently in 2010 (Gulliver
s Travels). Swift s creative work takes his prideful main character and protagonist, Lemuel Gulliver
through many events which leads to his most traumatizing and humbling experience. A minor
characters within the text, Don Pedro de Mendez is one of the most influential characters that impacts
Gulliver s traveling experience. Don Pedro de Mendez is a character that helps uplift Gulliver from
mild depression and encourages him to embrace who he is while remaining thoughtful of his
shortcomings. Don Pedro de Mendez as a minor character contributes to both Gulliver s life and the
theme of the text. Mendez is a Portuguese captain who discoveries Gulliver on an island after his exile
by the Houyhnhnm tribe. During Gulliver s and Mendez s interactions the readers are introduced to
the moral concept of humbleness and how pride can affect one s perception. Gulliver s exile from the
island of the Houyhnhnm tribe and Yahoos causes him to fall into a great depression, due to his
passion

The Foundation Of Social Philosophy And The Philosophy Of...
III Social Philosophy literally means philosophy of society. Society means general society, the
network of social relations, and not any particular society because the philosophical view points
towards universality. According to Daya Krishna, society is the sort of reality, the truth of existence of
every being in relation with each other. Hence, the subject of social philosophy is the human society as
a whole. As the relations that exist between the objects of nature are different from social relations,
social philosophy does not concern itself with nature and creatures other than man. Mere coexistence,
either among the people of one nation or among the nations themselves, is not enough for social
relations. In the field of social relations, social change and control cause integrative and disintegrative
processes. Both similarity and dissimilarity are to be found in society, though the former is more
important. Unity in diversity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So are all the social sciences. But it is concerned only with their more general aspects not with each
one of them. The scope of social philosophy can be understood by comprehending its main problem
which is to discover the philosophical foundations of the society. Since the beginning of knowledge,
philosophers have been trying to study the philosophical foundations of various aspects of human
society. They have discovered how far the society is eternal and natural and how far it is changing and
artificial. Whereas some thinkers believe that the individual is independent of society, others
emphasize the social nature of the individual. According to Aristotle, man is born social animal. On
the other hand, Jean Jacques Rousseau held that man s social nature is the product of a social contract.
Indian philosophers too have studied the social nature of man as natural. About the main problem of
social philosophy, John Stuart Mackenzie may be quoted

The pigment called melanin is found in this layer. Melanin protects the sensitive cells beneath, from
the harmful effects of the sun. The greater the exposure to sunlight the greater the production of
melanin. 2. The dermis or the inner layer is located just under the epidermis. This layer is highly
sensitive because it contains nerve endings. It also contains numerous blood vessels, lymph vessels,
sweat glands, sebaceous glands and hair follicles. These are held together by collagen and elastin

Each hair follicle has a sebaceous gland, which produces sebum. Excess sebum makes your skin look

deficiency in the production of sebum produces dry skin. Your teenage years could be your best time

Creating The Constitution Summary
Jack Rakove wrote the article Creating a Constitution to explain the process of the adoption of the
Constitution and to explain how the Constitution was approved. Along with those two topics, Rakove
wrote the article to explain how the appeals and demands of the initial drafts of the Constitution are
challenging and difficult yet vital. In addition, Rakove desired the article to compel readers to
understand how the Constitution was framed and the boundaries of the document along with alerting
the reader to James Madison s importance in framing and elucidating the fundamental, primary
principles of the Constitution. Professor Rahove begins the work with an explanation of the gathering.
He explains there were those that would come and go, those that would voice quite opinionated views,

He describes James Madison s role through the entire process as being one of the most important
architech at every point in the process of crafting the Constitution.(Rakove,15) Rakove explains how
Madison called for the convention, help craft the Constitution, backed and ratified, determined the
value of adding the Bill of Rights to it, and perceived what the future government would be with the
Constitution in place.(Rakove, 15) Professor Rakove makes it abundantly clear that Madison is the
source that most turn to for a insightful explanation of the original intent, original objective, and
original philosophy of the Constitution.(Rakove, 15) Rakove holds to the belief that Madison is the
lighthouse in the storm: Rakove wants readers to understand that Madison is the one to turn to for
clarity in the chaos. Rakove writes, To an extraordinary extent, we rely on Madison for basic insights
into the original theories and ambitions of the Constitution. (Rakove,

Does Biological Motion Transmit Information about the...
Literature Review: Does Biological Motion Transmit Information About the Emotional States of
Others?
Actors and normal people alike, have exploited the ability to display emotion through body movement
for centuries. However, until not long ago, psychologists considered body movements only as displays
of the intensity of emotions not their specificity. Instead, facial expressions were thought to be crucial
for the judgement of emotions (Ekman, 1973). It was not until the second half of the twentieth century
that research into biological motion illustrated that emotional state can be judged by body movement,
even if only basic emotions such as anger or happiness. However, the evolutionary function of humans
ability to express emotion was suggested a whole century earlier by Darwin (1872).
According to Darwin (1872), each basic emotion has a combination of postures, expressions and
gestures and the ability to recognise emotions has an adaptive advantage. Following on from this
theory, Walk (1984), later proposed the alarm hypothesis which states that the emotions of anger and
fear are more readily recognisable in order to aid survival. Several of the following studies have
addressed this theory. This review will examine the literature into the human ability to detect the
emotional state of others through biological motion as further insight could help people with impaired
social functions, such as those suffering from autism or schizophrenia. The following areas will be

The Threat Of The Security Council ( Ips ) Is Of Paramount...
The concept of threat to international peace and security (IPS) is of paramount importance for the UN
collective security system. Article 39 determines the identification and removal of threats to peace as
one of the most fundamental tasks of the UN Security Council (UNSC). Still, there is no clear and
exhaustive definition of threat to IPS . In the first part of the essay, I will explain how the notion of
threat to IPS has evolved after the end of the Cold War. Secondly, I will focus on the UNSC practice,
on its unsolvable relation with the definition of threat to peace and on the possible challenges posed to
the UNSC by the expansion of the notion. Finally, I will briefly take under examination the Gulf War
case as a cornerstone in the concept expansion trend.
Article 1(1) of the UN Charter sets the maintenance of international peace and security as one of the
main purposes of the United Nations. With this objective in mind Article 24(1), in order to ensure
prompt and effective action appoints the UNSC as the organ primarily responsible for the maintenance
of international peace and security .
However, the legal pivotal basis of the collective security system is represented by Article 39. As
rightly noted by Dinstein, Article 39 prescribes the UNSC s mandatory duty emphasised by the use of
the verb shall of determining the existence of any threat to the peace, breach of the peace, or act of
aggression and of making recommendations or binding decisions in

War with Iraq Essay
The war with Iraq began about fifteen years ago. Still to this day people are torn between going to war
and trying to keep peace with Iraq. Back when the United States first had a problem with Iraq was
when they invaded Kuwait in 1990, and refused to leave. Their were three main causes that made Iraq
invade Kuwait. The Iraqi leaders have always considered Kuwait to be part of Iraq because of the way
it used to be a long time ago. Second, the country of Kuwait is full of oil. I am sure that was the main
reason why Saddam invaded Kuwait. Lastly, Kuwait wanted complete sovereignty from Iraq, and
Saddam was not ready to give them that.
I think it is really ironic how the United States government was helping Iraq ... Show more content on

Summoned before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to clarify her role in the Administration s
relations with Iraq before August 2, 1990, Ambassador Glaspie offered her version of the events that
led to the invasion. She recalled that Iraq had first and foremost just finished a long, drawn out war
with its neighbor, Iran. Hussein, she said, had made repeated threats against the state of Israel in the
first half of 1990, but suddenly switched his focus from Israel to Kuwait and another neighbor to the
south, the United Arab Emirates (Brethour, Patrick) He announced in a speech, that if Kuwait and the
United Arab Emirates did not revise their oil policy and produce according to their OPEC quotas, Iraq
would take upon itsel effective measures to make sure they did. quot; The Americans were determined
to go to war from the start, quot; and Saddam Hussein quot;walked into a trap, quot; according to the
former French foreign minister Claude Cheysson (Brethour Patrick). Evidence has been found to
suggest that the Persian Gulf war is the result of a long process of preparation. For a decade during the
war with Iran and Iraq, Saddam Hussein s Iraq had enjoyed US and Western military, political and
economic support, including $ 1.5 billion of sales approved by the U.S. government (Amhed Nafeez).
I think the war with Iraq in 1990 was very fishy. I also think that the war that is going on today

Ism Witch History
Despite al Dawānīqī s threat, al Ṣādiq designated his son, Ismaʿil, as his successor and imam.
However, al Dawānīqī s persecution, threat, and frustration brought a new twist to the life and history
of Shīʿa communities. The key twist in this part of the Shīʿa history is the issue of Ismāʿīl s imamate
and occultation. Historical accounts vary on Ismaʿil s death and life during al Ṣādiq s lifetime. While it
is beyond the scope and focus of this paper to enter into a debate on this matter, it suffices to state that
the ʿAbbāsid threat and persecution caused the emergence of many splinter groups among al Ṣādiq s
followers. Remaining with the Ismaili line of imamate, Ismaili communities firmly believe in Ismāʿīl s

According to Ibn Nadīm s and Niẓām al Mulk s accounts, al Hallāj was the first dāʿī of Jibāl in present
day Iran (Ibn Nadim, 2002:352; Niẓām al Mulk, 1999:283 4). He might have been the first person
who could have assumed an official title of dāʿī, but, as the presented analyses have demonstrated, he
certainly was not the first person who was involved in the Ismaili daʿwa in Persia. Ghiyāth fled to
Khurasan around the end of the third/ninth and the beginning of the fourth/tenth centuries, when a
certain Sunni cleric, ʿAbd Allāh al Zaʿfarānī, incited public opinion against him (Niẓām al Mulk,
1999:284). Al Zaʿfarānī was the founder of the al Zaʿfarāniyya faction, one of the three schools of
Najjāriyya (al Barghawthiyya, Mustadrika, and al Zaʿfarāniyya), and a follower of Ḥusaīn ibn
Muḥammad al Najjār. He attacked Ghiyāth in order to create a bigger space and fame for himself.
Consequently, Ghiyāth migrated to Khurasan and settled in Marw al Rūd, in present day Bālā
Murghāb in north western Bādghīs province of Afghanistan, which is still populated with many
Hazara groups. Ghiyāth s major achievement was the conversion of Amīr al Ḥusaīn ibn ʿAlī al
Marwarūdī or al Marwazī (hereafter, al Marwazī). He governed Sīstān, Hirāt, Ghūr, Gharjistān,
Bādghīs, and Marw (Stern, 1960:60 61; Niẓām al Mulk, 1999:285) for the Sāmānid amīrs. As has
already been mentioned,

Gretchen Am Spinnrade
Gretchen Am Spinnrade Franz Schubert composed the German Lieder, Gretchen Am Spinnrade, in
1814. This composition is one of Schubert s pinnacle compositions, which introduced the world to the
idea of the Romantic Lied, veering away from the already existing Classical Lied. Observing the form,
rhythmic structure, key modulations and dynamics with relation to the text, Schubert paints a beautiful
emotional drama for the listener allowing them to dive into the thoughts and emotions the woman,
Gretchen, is experiencing while longing for her lover, Faust. Gretchen Am Spinnrade is a modified
strophic composition in a seven part rondo form ABACADA. The A sections could be interpreted as

Shifting our focus back to the key modulations, the A section returns once we reach m 73. The D
section begins in m 85 just as it did in the C section with a dominant 7th chord preceded by its key
modulation, so Bb major 7 to Eb major to C major 7 to F major to D major 7 to g minor to E major 7

the lyrics. Looking at the beginning A section, it utilizes a crescendo from the beginning pianissimo in
m 6, which then decrescendos with each word repeat I ll find it, never more and completely

even though the wording describes a silent grave , as if she s begging to break free of this silent grave
that she claims to be trapped in. Then, in m22 there is a crescendo with and my poor head and in m27
by thoughts of him . This leads into a decrescendo in m 28 when describing who has my heart . The
return of the A section in m 31 uses a bit different dynamics. This time, rather than having a
decrescendo in I ll find it, I ll find it never, never more a crescendo is utilized on both I ll find it
expressions. Forte is then

Man and Nature after the Fall in John Milton s Paradise Lost
Man and Nature after the Fall in Paradise Lost
In Paradise Lost, the consequences of the fall and the change in relations between man and nature can
best be discussed when we look at Milton s pre fall descriptions of Eden and its inhabitants. Believing
that fallen humans could never fully understand what life was like in Eden and the relationships purely
innocent beings shared, Milton begins his depiction of Paradise and Adam and Eve through the fallen
eyes of Satan:
So little knows
Any, but God alone, to value right
The good before him, but perverts best things
To worse abuse, or to thir meanest use.
Beneath him with new wonder now he views

Adam and Eve are tall and erect like the trees, pure and nude, uncovered like the rural landscape.
Adam s hair cut short, almost as if the pair had pruned it. Eve s body seems to be supported by the
garden, but her hair is described as wild, unadorned and wanton, not unlike the landscape outside of
Eden: Steep wilderness, whose hairy sides/ With thicket overgrown, grotesque and wild... (IV, 135

With special care and a watchful eye the Eden will not smother itself, just as Adam and Eve are safe
from Satan when they are together. When Eve leaves Adam, she is tempted by the Serpent and decides
to eat the forbidden fruit. When this happens, the earth feels the fall profoundly:
So saying, her rash hand in evil hour
Forth reaching to the Fruit, she pluck d, she eat:

Casino Industry in Macau
The Casino Industry in Macau
Research Question
I intend to evaluate the Casino Industry in Macau including the reasons for its high demand and
growing success and compare it to the Casino Industry in Las Vegas.
The gaming industry is the livelihood of Macau. It is responsible for 75% of the government s income
and provides the people of Macau with millions of jobs. Even though gambling was first legalized
under Portuguese rule to finance the government, it remains the same under Chinese rule today. The
rules and regulations set forth oversee the casino industry and grant companies with casino
concessions. It is dramatically more profitable than Las Vegas because of the devastating effects of the
American Recession.

This only attracted more tourists to the country and encouraged locals to gamble more. The
construction and operation of new casinos also dramatically increased employment rates.
Who Regulates the Casino Industry in Macau? After the casino monopoly ended in 2001, the
government formed rules and regulations that would administer the gaming industry. The dissolution
of the monopoly meant that companies besides STDM were now allowed to build and operate casinos
in Macau. Theses rules and regulations were to ensure that the new casinos were operating properly
and fairly (Loughlin and Pannell).
Soon after the monopoly ended, the Legislative Assembly passed a law (No. 16) that clearly outlined
the definition gambling and casino . The law stated what would be acceptable and what would not be
acceptable in terms of gambling in Macau. It also explained the guidelines for the concession system
and the procedure for bidding. In order to enforce these rules and regulations, the Legislative
Assembly established the Casino Commissions Committee. This committee consists of eight members
and is overseen by the Secretary of Economics and Finance. At the time of its establishment, this man
was Francis Tam Pak Yuen.
The bidding process began in November of 2001. The Casinos Commissions Committee started to

Inevitable Crime In America
It is inevitable crime in America is at an all time high and something needs to be done. I believe the
main thing that can be done to decrease the crime levels in America would be to incorporate
neighborhood watches. Within these neighborhood watches, meeting should be held at least two times
a month with their surrounding neighborhood watch committees. At these local meetings the
community should assign a few individuals to be the community patrol who work with their local
police department. The committee should also help individuals with porch lights, making sure
everyone has a well lit home. If the street lights in the neighborhood aren t working properly, the

The neighborhoods in America make the determining factor as to how someone may turn out. If the
projects, low income, and ghettos in America were clean with well kept streets, buildings that were
actually occupied, and businesses that are actually open for business, this would be an encouragement
to the community. When the communities look horrible it can make a person feel horrible. If your
current surroundings were full of drugs, infestations, alcohol, abuse, and run down buildings, would
you think you would be a college graduate someday? I surely wouldn t. I feel if communities could
work together with the help of the Public Works department, they could have an all hands on deck
week. This would include members of the community as well as the Public Works to clean the streets
first. Then the communities can try to work as one to get the abandoned building either rebuilt, or
refurbished so the community can actually have something it might absolutely need. A nationwide
cleanup would preserve the minds of individuals who are thinking of committing a crime and moving
their attention to making their home a better place. This could be vital to neighborhoods all across
America, not just in the low income or poverty stricken areas, but every neighborhood in America

Objections To The Adminstrative Process Theory
Croley faces many objections to his administrative process theory. Some objections are in defense of
the public choice theory while others seek to disprove the administrative theory itself. Despite the
outcome of these arguments, Croley seeks to emphasize publically interested regulation is a possibility
according to the administrative process theory and that under the right circumstances it will prevail.
The main claim being there is more not less to the story of regulation than legislative control and
interest group influence, notwithstanding the inordinate explanatory weight these factors are usually
thought to carry. An initial objection uses the basic argument that a few cases of regulation
successfully advancing the public interest does not undermine the public choice theory. This theory,
known as the straw theory, puts forth the idea that regulation does not always end with interest groups
receiving regulatory rents, but does enough times to draw attention to the efficiency of the regulation
process. The theory should be able to incorporate these few cases. Croley responds in this case first by
explaining the conceptual criticism of the theory would remain regardless of the analyses of the cases
in this particular circumstance. Furthermore, if the theory were to accommodate those few successful
examples of regulation it would not have predictive or explanatory power because of its inability to
rule out any regulatory outcomes. In this case, the previous

Why Women s Women Have Been Repressed For A Long Period...
Why not Women?
Women have been repressed for a long period of history. Only recently have women started to gain
respect as equals and individuals. While women s rights have advanced in many ways in the past 50
years alone, it is obvious that there is a significant disconnect in the advancement of women in the
church. The promotion of gender equality is a slow and painful process, and has barely begun to
progress worldwide. Attitudes towards women as leaders in the church, and in religion in general, are
rooted in Biblical interpretations of women s involvement, not only in leadership in the church, but
also in marriage, society, and government. The role of gender in religion is one that is often ignored;
yet the issue should be addressed in that most religions, particularly Christianity and Catholicism,
place women in submissive roles. This encourages the gender gap in society as a whole.
Traditionally, Christianity has given men the position of authority in marriage, society, and
government. The Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches, and many conservative Protestant
denominations emphasize today that only men can be ordained as priests, clergy, and as deacons. Even
though women are not seen as traditional leaders in the church, the majority of Christians have
immense respect for women. After all, God chose a woman, Mary, to have the honor of giving birth to
Jesus, the Son of God. Historically, women have played very significant roles in religion. Nuns,

economic system ( doc5). The increase impedance to the Chinese economy would fill the pockets of
moneylenders instead of benefiting the economy. Likewise, the increase in silver production, while
benefiting Spain early on, in time hurt the Spanish empire. Tomas de Mercado, a Spanish scholar,
wrote how the high prices of luxury goods caused silver to only flow out of Spain, hurting the
economy (doc2). Mercado wrote this account in 1571, yet already Ming ships conducted extensive
silver trade with the Spanish Empire via Manila. In addition, Antonio Vasquez de Espinosa, a Spanish
priest, shows another side that the silver production affected in negative way the social side: Vaquez,
writing about Potosi, the largest silver mine in Spain s colonial possessions, describes the terrible
condition that Native American dealt with in the labor in the mines ( doc6).Although the encomienda
system had already been dismantled in 1542, Vasquez shows the continuing manipulation of the
Native American population by the Spanish. Vasquez, a Spanish priest, is obviously a priest

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bioremediation
a better and a more cost effective option.
Bioremediation is a process which employs microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes and
algae for the cleanup of the environment contaminated with pollutants. Bioremediation is of many
types, which are biostimulation, bioaugmentation, intrinsic bioremediation, phytoremediation,
bioventing, bioleaching, land farming, composting, rhizofiltration and bioreactors. Biostimulation
refers to the method where the environment acts as the stimulant and it stimulates or motivates the
microorganisms to carry out bioremediation. This stimulant is usually in the form of nutrients made
available to these microorganisms. The nutrients supplied are either carbon sources, nitrogen sources,
phosphate, electron acceptors etc. bioaugmentation is the introduction of certain actively growing
microflora which in turn induce the resident microflora to carry out the bioremediation process.

The contaminated sites are directly treated using the microorganisms. Underground petroleum pipes
sometimes have leakages. Such sites of contamination are directly treated with microorganisms that
can degrade petroleum hydrocarbons. The same is applicable in case of oil spills and heavy metal
contamination. Phytoremediation is brought about by certain special plants which can take up the
pollutants and make them less available in the soil. Some examples of such plants are mustard, alpine
pennycress, hemp and pigweed. When the soil which is to be treated with the microorganisms is
stimulated by providing it with oxygen, it is known as bioventing. Bioleaching is a process where
living organisms or microorganisms are used to extract metals from their respective ores. This process
ensures that there is not much expenditure of both chemicals and energy to bring about the extraction.
Land farming refers to amending the soil with organic amendments like vermicompost, bulking agents

How I Learned From The Class Writings
As I look back to when I first started taking this class I began to think about the things that I have
learned. It had been quite a long time since I wrote anything other than basic notes or letters before I
started taking the EN100 course. In fact, I have never been much of a writer even when writing about
subjects I enjoy, so when the Justice was brought up as the main topic of the papers that we would be
writing over the semester I was less then pleased. Now that my misgivings as a writer and my distain
for the overall subject matter are out in the open, let s get back to the subject at hand. What have I
learned in EN100 or more specifically, what have I learned from each of the papers I wrote on justice
and from the in class writings? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing I learned from that first paper is that it is not acceptable to forsake the freedoms of some
in order to better the majority. John Rawls, wrote in his book, A Theory of Justice that Each person
possesses an inviolability founded on justice that even the welfare of society as a whole cannot
override. For this reason justice denies that the loss of freedoms for some is made right by the greater
good shared by others. So not only should justice be upheld for all people, regardless of their situation,
but that these rights should not be overlooked in order to merely appease a majority.
My second paper entitled Unjust American Justice showcased an article by Talia Jane called 5 ways
America s Justice System Is Designed to Screw You. I learned from writing this paper is that someone
cannot simply use facts that are based on a single persons experience if that person does not allow
people to check their facts by withholding the name of their source. When writing one should always
try to state facts, not opinion or bias experience. When reading any article

Romeo And Juliet Tragic Love Character Analysis
Superficial Romance: The Tragic Love Story of Romeo and Juliet During the Elizabethan era, the sole
job of people was to marry and have children to carry on the lineage of one s family. Many individuals
married into families of higher status to raise their own status, and were also married for their beauty,
which was thought to continue through their descendants. The love that was felt at the time was, in
most cases, based on these outer attributes rather than internal ones such as personality. The practice
of loving for appearances is clearly expressed in the drama, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, written
by William Shakespeare, where two opposing families, the Capulets and the Montagues, coexist in the
town of Verona. Romeo, from the house of the Montagues, is infatuated with Rosaline for her beauty,
but his feelings for her immediately disappear when Romeo sees the far more beautiful Juliet,
daughter of the Capulets. When they meet, Romeo s feelings are requited by Juliet, who then no
longer wants to accept the arranged marriage with her suitor, Paris. The romantic love among Romeo,
Rosaline, Juliet, and Paris, as well as the expectations Juliet s family has for her love is highly
superficial, revealing that these characters value their loved ones for their external appearances, rather
than who they are on the inside. Romeo s love for Juliet is unreliable and overexaggerated. In a short
summary of recent events, the Chorus states that now old desire doth in his

Non Corporations And Its Impact On Fostering Change
Abstract
Despite the fact that many organizations have embraced the new management strategies in reflexivity,
there are still countless issues in the same regard. It is also vital to remember that for an entity to
remain competitive in the market, it must formulate workable management strategies. In this survey, it
is demonstrated that it is the sole responsibility of the reflexive managers to make sure that there is a
flow of communication pattern in the company. The models include the research the organization
undertakes to understand the ethnography behind the rationale of self reflexivity. The structures of the

Therefore, it is vital for public administrators to become vigilant in embracing reflexivity when
dealing with employees, business partners, and the entire stakeholders. Management should make a
habit of understanding self reflexivity so that it can help in realizing the realities and the critical nature
of the organizational processes. There are two levels of reflexivity including the self and the critical
decision of minds (Cunliffe and Jong, 2005).
Reflexivity in Organizations
In the philosophy of science, reflex and reflection have been used categorically to mean the same kind
of phenomenon. It is vital to differentiate the two processes so as to know the better one that suits the
functions and operations of an organization. Reflection is primarily the check up of the actual life
issues in the mirror of knowledge and differentiating it from the vague assumptions. Researchers look
at h reflex mode as a means to diversify the workplace and obtain a high standard of performance. The
professionals involved try to use their skills to maintain the situational improvement in the knowledge
and class of actions in the administrations (Adriansen and Hunne, 2013). The leadership of any
organization must embrace a further calculative and emotive approach to addressing public
governance. It only means that for an organization to govern their work professionally, an assessment

The World War I And The Persian Question And A History
Late 19th century political narratives, like Persia and the Persian Question and A History of Persia,
greatly influenced the social political discourses behind creation of Britain s perception of Iran as a
major world power. The British saw Persia as a great empire that could rise from the ashes of its
glorious past, but in reality this imaginary perception never existed because policy argued against this
notion. The current scholarship regarding Persia in Great War still requires more in depth research to
erase this current narrative of the middleman/victim perspective because everything is based on a
British source base. This source base dominates the current political narrative that allows for things to
be presented in Eurocentric fashion, which makes it difficult to change the current narrative to find
Persia s place within the General context of World War I. Most general monographs on World War I
offer a tale of humanity admits a conflict that will change the known world after the assassination of
Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Yet, this story is far more complicated because it involves the crumbling
of empires and the development of nation states in the Middle East. Hew Strachan s The First World
War demonstrates the complicated nature of the Great War in the Middle East and the involvement of
Persia. Most generalized texts on World War follow the traditional political rhetoric set by 19th

battle in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. The battle was between The United States of America
and the Empire of Japan. This would be the second battle that would feature of the United States in
World War II, as it took place 6 months after the Japanese attacked the U.S. naval base Pearl Harbor in
Hawaii. Major advancements in technology would be seen for the first time in this battle, which would
prove to be crucial. Today, the battle is recognized as a big contribution for the Allied Power s victory
in World War II. On December 7, 1941, Japanese fighter pilots attacked the U.S. naval base of Pearl
Harbor in Hawaii. Just over 2,000 men lost their lives during the attack. Just a few days later, the
United States declared war on Japan. Five months after the attacks in May 1942, The Battle of the
Coral Sea took place, which featured a victory for the Japanese. This battle happened to bo the first

The Eight Stages Of Erikson s Psychosocial Development
Abstract
This paper studies the eight stages of Erik Erikson s psychosocial development and the impact is has
had on how the people view the personality development during infancy to late adulthood. These
stages are split up into specific age groups and show how the developments occur. There are
difficulties presented within the groups that the child, teenager, and adult go through and experience
within their lives. These are positive and negative experiences that ultimately decide the outcome of
each person. Each person has a different life experience so these stages help to show how a person
grows into their personality as they age in life. These experiences show that they can define who a
person is and they are crucial.
Erikson s Eight Stages of Psychosocial Development
Erik Erikson s eight stages of psychosocial development have made a major impact on how people
view where and how a personality develops within a person. The many stages go in order from
infancy to late adulthood. The stages have some sort of difficulty that each person goes through while
one being a positive outcome and one being a negative outcome. According to McLeod, Erikson s
ideas were greatly influenced by Freud and his theory regarding the structure and topography of
personality. (McLeod, 1970) According to the textbook, the first stage is the Oral Sensory stage. This
stage goes from birth to one year of life. It studies basic trust versus mistrust. In this stage, the mother

Historical Reliability Of The Story Of Jesus
We often approach the Gospels with tightly held presuppositions. Many people, myself included,
believe that the Gospels are a reliable historical resource. The Story of Jesus documentary both
undergirds and challenges these presuppositions. The historicity of the Gospels is a thread which
underlies the entirety of the Christian faith. The reliability of the Gospels is integral to the life and

Globalization And Globalization
With the changes in the global economy, pegged with the advancement of technology, companies in

instruments beyond research, entertainment, and communication, and into the world of digital and

markets where profits could be astronomical. Many developing countries are beginning to adopt
practices and methods of developed countries on a smaller scale, with the help of technology. As the
prevalence of new markets and a new form of currency grows, there is no doubt larger companies will
be able to seize the opportunity to make in these markets. One should consider the following

America Needs Freight Trains Essay
Our homes are filled with stuff. Some of it is essential, such as a stove and a toilet, but much of it is
superfluous and properly classified as wants rather than needs, such as wallpaper or DVD players. An
inventory of the items found in our homes would undoubtedly produce a list of substantial length.
Where did it all come from? A trip to the mall and we glean insight. But how does all this stuff get
there? This is an important question for several reasons. In particular, a closer look at the means by
which goods are transported reveals much about our economic, environmental and social
commitments.
There are obviously many ways in which products make it to us. To get materials from overseas
obviously requires ships or aircraft. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A more holistic (i.e., inclusive) examination of the rail versus truck debate suggests that discounting
the environmental and social costs has been and will continue to be a serious mistake.
Trains have many advantages over trucks for transporting materials across our nation. Some of these
benefits are intuitive while others are much less obvious. And given the evidence that follows, we
must consider seriously the current move to displace freight trains in favor of trucks.
First, there are monetary costs that must be fully appreciated. Costs, seemingly simple considerations
that get convoluted very quickly, include many factors including fuel, congestion, maintenance, lives,
and land use. Estimates vary, yet on a ton mile basis, trains are about three times more fuel efficient;
the ton mile is a very useful unit because it represents work (force multiplied by distance, for all you
physics gurus). That is, it takes trucks about three times more diesel fuel to get from one location to
another; a recent study indicates that the actual number ranges from a factor 1.4 to 9, depending on
equipment types and terrain (Lowe). And since a gallon of burned fuel results in nearly twenty pounds
of carbon dioxide being emitted into the atmosphere, trucks are a much worse

Foster Care Abuse
The foster care system is designed to remove children from abusive homes or house them if they are
without caretakers. Often times this can be a great opportunity for children. Children who come from
difficult backgrounds have the opportunity for a fresh start in a a safe environment. Other times,
children experience the same kind of abuse inside of the foster home as they did outside. There are
many reasons for this: bad judgment of character when hiring foster parents, other children in the
group home who are misbehaved, or even unsafe neighborhoods. My uncle Bud used to foster boys

This causes many of these individuals to take on the mindset of, why bother, I m going to end up

because foster homes are more often unstable than stable. In the Pacific Northwest, 65% of former
foster children had attended seven or more schools beginning in elementary school through high
school. Other studies show that children tend to lose between four and six months of educational
progress per school change. Reasons being curriculum changes, teacher changes, and previous school
records often don t transfer at all or in a timely fashion. Curriculum changes impose obstacles when a
child in the third grade might have previously studied multiplication facts but in their new school they
are studying division facts. When a child first joined the class with the new teacher, it can be difficult
for the teacher to narrow down the child s capabilities, struggles, and learning styles. And finally,
when a student s records don t transfer, he or she may be placed in an incorrect grade, causing them to
struggle for reasons such as being behind and not understanding, or being ahead and being held back.
All of these factors can discourage and leave children unmotivated to catch up. They increasingly fall
behind and are less likely to catch up. These academic factors often times discourage students in their
social life as well. They find it not worth their while to invest academically or socially. Activities such
as ballgames, prom, homecoming, and graduation are all apart of a high school student s experience.
Because of the emotional withdrawal of foster children, they are unlikely to attend these school
functions, leading them to have even less to relate with other

Observations For centuries, the beneficial effects of maggot infested wounds were noted by military
surgeons who observed that injured soldiers abandoned on the battlefield fared better and that their
wounds healed faster when those wounds were infested with maggots.7 Himself having observed
maggot infested wounds during his service in World War I, the orthopedic surgeon, William Baer, was
the first to apply maggots systematically to nonhealing wounds while a professor at Johns Hopkins

her some tea and little cakes to go with it. She drank it in solitude at first, but later, she began inviting
her friends and other ladies to join her. The drinking of tea led to the birth of a thing beyond a habit or
addiction. It became a culture. Tea rooms popped up all over the place, private teas and teas in hotels
were in demand. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Other sweets are often served, sponge cakes, cupcakes, trifles and seasonal fruits. The cake served

Hiring Independent Contractors
Engaging independent contractors can be beneficial to employers in various aspects especially to
small business owners. Although hiring independent contractors require higher pay, employers are
more likely to save money by doing so. Because when businesses hire them, they may not be eligible
for benefits such as health insurance or paid for taking time off work, they are not provided coverage
by the worker s compensation insurance, and they will be responsible for submitting their own income
taxes. In addition, it also lowers the administrative costs because payroll taxes, CPP and EI do not
have to be withheld or remitted. Whereas, when employers hire an employee, there are various
expenses that come along, including the cost of employer contributed ... Show more content on

Hiring independent contractors would lead to losing some control over your workers since employers
cannot control how they perform their task because you can t closely monitor their work, unlike
employees. You can guide them to how you want a particular job to be done, but usually they will run
their business their way. Since they enjoy autonomy to decide how to do the job at their best for which
they have been hired. (Forbes, 2006) Independent contractors are hired as a short term worker, which
means that they might not be working with the same company for another project the next time. Since,
they usually operate on a first come, first serve basis, which can become inconvenient and disruptive
for employers if they want to work with the same contractor for all of their projects. In addition,
different contractors may perform their job in a different manner, which can lead to various results
from each contractor. Therefore, hiring employees would be a better option for such employers.
Another disadvantage is that because they are freelancers and work with various employers, they
would only focus on promoting their brands but not the employers. Furthermore, when an employee is
injured at the workplace, employers use the worker s compensation insurance program to compensate
for the injuries so that employees do not sue them for the damages. However,

Examples Of Failure In Life
How to Fail in Life If there is one thing that every human being is guaranteed, it is a lifetime of
suffering, regrets, embarrassment, and, most importantly, failure. No one is perfect. In fact, our culture
embraces this ideology. There is a sense of comfort in knowing that you are not alone in your flaws.
So why even try to succeed in life? Instead, learn these precise techniques and methods to fail in life.
The first step at failing in life is to not make the best use of your time. Work, pressure, school and
many more aspects of life take too much time and effort. The average person spends most of their
weekday working on something for at least eight hours. That happens to be at least one third of the
day going to something that would most likely not make your day better. How about we ... Show more

As we have previously established, you are not perfect, and will never be anywhere close to
perfection. And that is perfectly okay. Once you have established this belief, it is also important to
never believe in any of your dreams. If you accept that you will never graduate from college, or
acquire your dream career, or marry your soul mate, or live a generally happy life, then you will not
have to suffer any disappointment. Furthermore, this lack of self confidence will prevent you trying to
accomplish a goal or overcome an obstacle. This is an essential key to failing in life. As you can see,
there are many ways to fail in life and many reasons to do so. Making the best use of your time
ensures that you are number one priority in your life and that you use it on something that could
benefit you the most. Sometimes in life, one must learn to give up and not try to make things more
complex for them by doing things that they know they could not bear. One must get used to fearing
life itself to prevent oneself from making bad decisions that would haunt them later on in

What Are The Causes Behind The Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange; the true collision of cultures and the fervent overlap and exchange of
societal advancements. Although the exchange had positive aspects, such as introducing crops,
livestock, and technology, there were also many mistakes made along the way. More specifically, the
diseases, specifically smallpox that was introduced so haphazardly.
The smallpox epidemic that was introduced into the Americas by the European travelers was
devastating, especially to the natives. Killing off 80 90% of native populations in just the first 150

INTRODUCTION The efficient market hypothesis (EMH) promoted by Fama (1970) is considered an
important theory in financial area. However, the existence of momentum profits has threatened EMH.
One typical study in this issue is done by Jegadeesh and Titman (1993). They found that momentum
strategy realizes significant abnormal returns in each of the 12 months after portfolio s formation date.
In addition, Rouwenhorst (1998), Doukas and Macknight (2005) and Antoniou et al (2007) confirm
the existence of momentum profits in European markets. Liu et al (1999); Hon and Tonks (2003),
Galariotis et al (2007) and Li et al (2008) find significant momentum profits available in UK markets
over the sample period. Hart et al (2003) report momentum profits in 32 emerging markets. Griffin et
al (2003) observe the profitability of momentum strategy internationally, as too did Richards (1997),
Chan et al (2000) and Balvers and Wu (2006). A study by Hameed and Kusnadi (2002) address the
existence of momentum profits in Asian markets, whereas Demir et al (2004) prove its existence in
Australian markets 2 years later. The profitability of this strategy is also shown by Naughton et al
(2008) when they examine Chinese markets. Sources of momentum profits are an important issue that

What It s Like To Be A Gang Member
The lives of gang members, especially ones that are young, were filled with many challenges of
everyday life. Both the analytical essay What It s Like To Be A Gang Member and the poem We Real
Cool portray the life of a participant as short and fatal. This demonstrates that its life is very violent
and scary. They foreshadow that the organizations recruit young kids to do the dirty work.
In What It s Like To Be A Gang Member, the author Bill Lee, a previous member, portrays what then
life is like. According to the quote I was just 8 when I got into the gang life, boys are recruited when
they are very young which becomes scary and violent. Bill Lee also quotes I started with stealing,

Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler
Both Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler were pioneers and both had a phenomenal impact on the world
of psychology. However, while they were raised in the same era, came from the same city and were
educated at the same university, they had decidedly different views regarding personality theories
(Schultz, 1990, p. 120). Freud and Adler were both colleagues in the psychoanalytic movement that
Freud started. However, because of personality differences and vastly contrasting views about
personality theories (Mosak Maniacci, 1999, p.6) Adler left to begin his own faction, which he called
Individual Psychology. It is my intention to briefly describe the main areas of their theories, compare
and contrast their ideas of personality development, explore what types of experiences contributes to
unhealthy development and what types of interventions they would have each prescribed to patients
experiencing difficulties in their lives. However, while both Freud and Adler continue to influence
many areas of contemporary personality psychology, only one of them can truly be called a
humanitarian. Personality Development Freud believed that an individual s personality is formed
through five psychosexual developmental stages. The oral stage which is formed in the first year of
life is preoccupied with oral activities. The anal stage involves bowel function and control, and occurs
during the second year of life. The phallic stage which occurs at approximately the third year to the

  • 2. Gulliver s Travels By Jonathan Swift A Humbling Inspiration In 1726 author Jonathan Swift published a satirical, narrative entitled Gulliver s Travels (Davis, Harrison and Johnson 229). Gulliver s Travels is a novel that has continued to contribute and thrive in both literature and the film genres. Swift uses comical events and extraordinary characters to address moral issues that remain decades later in today s society. Gulliver s Travels has since been reproduced in the film industry multiple times, most recently in 2010 (Gulliver s Travels). Swift s creative work takes his prideful main character and protagonist, Lemuel Gulliver through many events which leads to his most traumatizing and humbling experience. A minor characters within the text, Don Pedro de Mendez is one of the most influential characters that impacts Gulliver s traveling experience. Don Pedro de Mendez is a character that helps uplift Gulliver from mild depression and encourages him to embrace who he is while remaining thoughtful of his shortcomings. Don Pedro de Mendez as a minor character contributes to both Gulliver s life and the theme of the text. Mendez is a Portuguese captain who discoveries Gulliver on an island after his exile by the Houyhnhnm tribe. During Gulliver s and Mendez s interactions the readers are introduced to the moral concept of humbleness and how pride can affect one s perception. Gulliver s exile from the island of the Houyhnhnm tribe and Yahoos causes him to fall into a great depression, due to his passion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Foundation Of Social Philosophy And The Philosophy Of... III Social Philosophy literally means philosophy of society. Society means general society, the network of social relations, and not any particular society because the philosophical view points towards universality. According to Daya Krishna, society is the sort of reality, the truth of existence of every being in relation with each other. Hence, the subject of social philosophy is the human society as a whole. As the relations that exist between the objects of nature are different from social relations, social philosophy does not concern itself with nature and creatures other than man. Mere coexistence, either among the people of one nation or among the nations themselves, is not enough for social relations. In the field of social relations, social change and control cause integrative and disintegrative processes. Both similarity and dissimilarity are to be found in society, though the former is more important. Unity in diversity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So are all the social sciences. But it is concerned only with their more general aspects not with each one of them. The scope of social philosophy can be understood by comprehending its main problem which is to discover the philosophical foundations of the society. Since the beginning of knowledge, philosophers have been trying to study the philosophical foundations of various aspects of human society. They have discovered how far the society is eternal and natural and how far it is changing and artificial. Whereas some thinkers believe that the individual is independent of society, others emphasize the social nature of the individual. According to Aristotle, man is born social animal. On the other hand, Jean Jacques Rousseau held that man s social nature is the product of a social contract. Indian philosophers too have studied the social nature of man as natural. About the main problem of social philosophy, John Stuart Mackenzie may be quoted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Creating The Constitution Summary Jack Rakove wrote the article Creating a Constitution to explain the process of the adoption of the Constitution and to explain how the Constitution was approved. Along with those two topics, Rakove wrote the article to explain how the appeals and demands of the initial drafts of the Constitution are challenging and difficult yet vital. In addition, Rakove desired the article to compel readers to understand how the Constitution was framed and the boundaries of the document along with alerting the reader to James Madison s importance in framing and elucidating the fundamental, primary principles of the Constitution. Professor Rahove begins the work with an explanation of the gathering. • 6. Does Biological Motion Transmit Information about the... Literature Review: Does Biological Motion Transmit Information About the Emotional States of Others? Actors and normal people alike, have exploited the ability to display emotion through body movement for centuries. However, until not long ago, psychologists considered body movements only as displays of the intensity of emotions not their specificity. Instead, facial expressions were thought to be crucial for the judgement of emotions (Ekman, 1973). It was not until the second half of the twentieth century that research into biological motion illustrated that emotional state can be judged by body movement, even if only basic emotions such as anger or happiness. However, the evolutionary function of humans ability to express emotion was suggested a whole century earlier by Darwin (1872). According to Darwin (1872), each basic emotion has a combination of postures, expressions and gestures and the ability to recognise emotions has an adaptive advantage. Following on from this theory, Walk (1984), later proposed the alarm hypothesis which states that the emotions of anger and fear are more readily recognisable in order to aid survival. Several of the following studies have addressed this theory. This review will examine the literature into the human ability to detect the emotional state of others through biological motion as further insight could help people with impaired social functions, such as those suffering from autism or schizophrenia. • 7. The Threat Of The Security Council ( Ips ) Is Of Paramount... The concept of threat to international peace and security (IPS) is of paramount importance for the UN collective security system. Article 39 determines the identification and removal of threats to peace as one of the most fundamental tasks of the UN Security Council (UNSC). Still, there is no clear and exhaustive definition of threat to IPS . In the first part of the essay, I will explain how the notion of threat to IPS has evolved after the end of the Cold War. Secondly, I will focus on the UNSC practice, on its unsolvable relation with the definition of threat to peace and on the possible challenges posed to the UNSC by the expansion of the notion. Finally, I will briefly take under examination the Gulf War case as a cornerstone in the concept expansion trend. Article 1(1) of the UN Charter sets the maintenance of international peace and security as one of the main purposes of the United Nations. With this objective in mind Article 24(1), in order to ensure prompt and effective action appoints the UNSC as the organ primarily responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security . However, the legal pivotal basis of the collective security system is represented by Article 39. As rightly noted by Dinstein, Article 39 prescribes the UNSC s mandatory duty emphasised by the use of the verb shall of determining the existence of any threat to the peace, breach of the peace, or act of aggression and of making recommendations or binding decisions in ... Back when the United States first had a problem with Iraq was when they invaded Kuwait in 1990, and refused to leave. Their were three main causes that made Iraq invade Kuwait. The Iraqi leaders have always considered Kuwait to be part of Iraq because of the way it used to be a long time ago. Second, the country of Kuwait is full of oil. I am sure that was the main reason why Saddam invaded Kuwait. Lastly, Kuwait wanted complete sovereignty from Iraq, and Saddam was not ready to give them that. Summoned before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to clarify her role in the Administration s relations with Iraq before August 2, 1990, Ambassador Glaspie offered her version of the events that led to the invasion. She recalled that Iraq had first and foremost just finished a long, drawn out war with its neighbor, Iran. Hussein, she said, had made repeated threats against the state of Israel in the first half of 1990, but suddenly switched his focus from Israel to Kuwait and another neighbor to the south, the United Arab Emirates (Brethour, Patrick) He announced in a speech, that if Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates did not revise their oil policy and produce according to their OPEC quotas, Iraq would take upon itsel effective measures to make sure they did. quot; The Americans were determined to go to war from the start, quot; and Saddam Hussein quot;walked into a trap, quot; according to the former French foreign minister Claude Cheysson (Brethour Patrick). Evidence has been found to suggest that the Persian Gulf war is the result of a long process of preparation. For a decade during the war with Iran and Iraq, Saddam Hussein s Iraq had enjoyed US and Western military, political and economic support, including $ 1.5 billion of sales approved by the U.S. government (Amhed Nafeez). However, al Dawānīqī s persecution, threat, and frustration brought a new twist to the life and history of Shīʿa communities. The key twist in this part of the Shīʿa history is the issue of Ismāʿīl s imamate and occultation. Historical accounts vary on Ismaʿil s death and life during al Ṣādiq s lifetime. While it is beyond the scope and focus of this paper to enter into a debate on this matter, it suffices to state that the ʿAbbāsid threat and persecution caused the emergence of many splinter groups among al Ṣādiq s followers. He might have been the first person who could have assumed an official title of dāʿī, but, as the presented analyses have demonstrated, he certainly was not the first person who was involved in the Ismaili daʿwa in Persia. Ghiyāth fled to Khurasan around the end of the third/ninth and the beginning of the fourth/tenth centuries, when a certain Sunni cleric, ʿAbd Allāh al Zaʿfarānī, incited public opinion against him (Niẓām al Mulk, 1999:284). Al Zaʿfarānī was the founder of the al Zaʿfarāniyya faction, one of the three schools of Najjāriyya (al Barghawthiyya, Mustadrika, and al Zaʿfarāniyya), and a follower of Ḥusaīn ibn Muḥammad al Najjār. He attacked Ghiyāth in order to create a bigger space and fame for himself. Consequently, Ghiyāth migrated to Khurasan and settled in Marw al Rūd, in present day Bālā Murghāb in north western Bādghīs province of Afghanistan, which is still populated with many Hazara groups. Ghiyāth s major achievement was the conversion of Amīr al Ḥusaīn ibn ʿAlī al Marwarūdī or al Marwazī (hereafter, al Marwazī). He governed Sīstān, Hirāt, Ghūr, Gharjistān, Bādghīs, and Marw (Stern, 1960:60 61; Niẓām al Mulk, 1999:285) for the Sāmānid amīrs. As has already been mentioned, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Gretchen Am Spinnrade Gretchen Am Spinnrade Franz Schubert composed the German Lieder, Gretchen Am Spinnrade, in 1814. This composition is one of Schubert s pinnacle compositions, which introduced the world to the idea of the Romantic Lied, veering away from the already existing Classical Lied. Observing the form, rhythmic structure, key modulations and dynamics with relation to the text, Schubert paints a beautiful emotional drama for the listener allowing them to dive into the thoughts and emotions the woman, Gretchen, is experiencing while longing for her lover, Faust. Man and Nature after the Fall in John Milton s Paradise Lost Man and Nature after the Fall in Paradise Lost In Paradise Lost, the consequences of the fall and the change in relations between man and nature can best be discussed when we look at Milton s pre fall descriptions of Eden and its inhabitants. Believing that fallen humans could never fully understand what life was like in Eden and the relationships purely innocent beings shared, Milton begins his depiction of Paradise and Adam and Eve through the fallen eyes of Satan: So little knows Any, but God alone, to value right The good before him, but perverts best things To worse abuse, or to thir meanest use. The dissolution of the monopoly meant that companies besides STDM were now allowed to build and operate casinos in Macau. Theses rules and regulations were to ensure that the new casinos were operating properly and fairly (Loughlin and Pannell). Soon after the monopoly ended, the Legislative Assembly passed a law (No. 16) that clearly outlined the definition gambling and casino . At these local meetings the community should assign a few individuals to be the community patrol who work with their local police department. When the communities look horrible it can make a person feel horrible. If your current surroundings were full of drugs, infestations, alcohol, abuse, and run down buildings, would you think you would be a college graduate someday? I surely wouldn t. I feel if communities could work together with the help of the Public Works department, they could have an all hands on deck week. This would include members of the community as well as the Public Works to clean the streets first. Then the communities can try to work as one to get the abandoned building either rebuilt, or refurbished so the community can actually have something it might absolutely need. A nationwide cleanup would preserve the minds of individuals who are thinking of committing a crime and moving their attention to making their home a better place. • 17. Objections To The Adminstrative Process Theory Croley faces many objections to his administrative process theory. Some objections are in defense of the public choice theory while others seek to disprove the administrative theory itself. Despite the outcome of these arguments, Croley seeks to emphasize publically interested regulation is a possibility according to the administrative process theory and that under the right circumstances it will prevail. The main claim being there is more not less to the story of regulation than legislative control and interest group influence, notwithstanding the inordinate explanatory weight these factors are usually thought to carry. An initial objection uses the basic argument that a few cases of regulation successfully advancing the public interest does not undermine the public choice theory. This theory, known as the straw theory, puts forth the idea that regulation does not always end with interest groups receiving regulatory rents, but does enough times to draw attention to the efficiency of the regulation process. The theory should be able to incorporate these few cases. Croley responds in this case first by explaining the conceptual criticism of the theory would remain regardless of the analyses of the cases in this particular circumstance. Furthermore, if the theory were to accommodate those few successful examples of regulation it would not have predictive or explanatory power because of its inability to rule out any regulatory outcomes. In this case, the previous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Why Women s Women Have Been Repressed For A Long Period... Why not Women? Women have been repressed for a long period of history. Only recently have women started to gain respect as equals and individuals. While women s rights have advanced in many ways in the past 50 years alone, it is obvious that there is a significant disconnect in the advancement of women in the church. The promotion of gender equality is a slow and painful process, and has barely begun to progress worldwide. Attitudes towards women as leaders in the church, and in religion in general, are rooted in Biblical interpretations of women s involvement, not only in leadership in the church, but also in marriage, society, and government. The role of gender in religion is one that is often ignored; yet the issue should be addressed in that most religions, particularly Christianity and Catholicism, place women in submissive roles. This encourages the gender gap in society as a whole. Traditionally, Christianity has given men the position of authority in marriage, society, and government. The Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches, and many conservative Protestant denominations emphasize today that only men can be ordained as priests, clergy, and as deacons. Even though women are not seen as traditional leaders in the church, the majority of Christians have immense respect for women. After all, God chose a woman, Mary, to have the honor of giving birth to Jesus, the Son of God. Historically, women have played very significant roles in religion. Nuns, specifically, ... It had been quite a long time since I wrote anything other than basic notes or letters before I started taking the EN100 course. Now that my misgivings as a writer and my distain for the overall subject matter are out in the open, let s get back to the subject at hand. For this reason justice denies that the loss of freedoms for some is made right by the greater good shared by others. • 23. Romeo And Juliet Tragic Love Character Analysis Superficial Romance: The Tragic Love Story of Romeo and Juliet During the Elizabethan era, the sole job of people was to marry and have children to carry on the lineage of one s family. Many individuals married into families of higher status to raise their own status, and were also married for their beauty, which was thought to continue through their descendants. The love that was felt at the time was, in most cases, based on these outer attributes rather than internal ones such as personality. The practice of loving for appearances is clearly expressed in the drama, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, where two opposing families, the Capulets and the Montagues, coexist in the town of Verona. Romeo, from the house of the Montagues, is infatuated with Rosaline for her beauty, but his feelings for her immediately disappear when Romeo sees the far more beautiful Juliet, daughter of the Capulets. When they meet, Romeo s feelings are requited by Juliet, who then no longer wants to accept the arranged marriage with her suitor, Paris. The romantic love among Romeo, Rosaline, Juliet, and Paris, as well as the expectations Juliet s family has for her love is highly superficial, revealing that these characters value their loved ones for their external appearances, rather than who they are on the inside. Romeo s love for Juliet is unreliable and overexaggerated. In a short summary of recent events, the Chorus states that now old desire doth in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The World War I And The Persian Question And A History Late 19th century political narratives, like Persia and the Persian Question and A History of Persia, greatly influenced the social political discourses behind creation of Britain s perception of Iran as a major world power. The British saw Persia as a great empire that could rise from the ashes of its glorious past, but in reality this imaginary perception never existed because policy argued against this notion. The current scholarship regarding Persia in Great War still requires more in depth research to erase this current narrative of the middleman/victim perspective because everything is based on a British source base. And given the evidence that follows, we must consider seriously the current move to displace freight trains in favor of trucks. First, there are monetary costs that must be fully appreciated. Costs, seemingly simple considerations that get convoluted very quickly, include many factors including fuel, congestion, maintenance, lives, and land use. Estimates vary, yet on a ton mile basis, trains are about three times more fuel efficient; the ton mile is a very useful unit because it represents work (force multiplied by distance, for all you physics gurus). That is, it takes trucks about three times more diesel fuel to get from one location to another; a recent study indicates that the actual number ranges from a factor 1.4 to 9, depending on equipment types and terrain (Lowe). In the Pacific Northwest, 65% of former foster children had attended seven or more schools beginning in elementary school through high school. Other studies show that children tend to lose between four and six months of educational progress per school change. Reasons being curriculum changes, teacher changes, and previous school records often don t transfer at all or in a timely fashion. Curriculum changes impose obstacles when a child in the third grade might have previously studied multiplication facts but in their new school they are studying division facts. When a child first joined the class with the new teacher, it can be difficult for the teacher to narrow down the child s capabilities, struggles, and learning styles. And finally, when a student s records don t transfer, he or she may be placed in an incorrect grade, causing them to struggle for reasons such as being behind and not understanding, or being ahead and being held back. All of these factors can discourage and leave children unmotivated to catch up. They increasingly fall behind and are less likely to catch up. These academic factors often times discourage students in their social life as well. They find it not worth their while to invest academically or socially. Activities such as ballgames, prom, homecoming, and graduation are all apart of a high school student s experience. Because of the emotional withdrawal of foster children, they are unlikely to attend these school functions, leading them to have even less to relate with other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abstract In the 21st century, eighty years after William Baer presented his groundbreaking work treating bone and soft tissue infections with live maggots, thousands of therapists around the globe have rediscovered the benefits of maggot therapy. But before those studies could be carried out, and before widespread use of maggot therapy was imaginable, several technical challenges first had to be overcome. History of Maggot Therapy Early Observations For centuries, the beneficial effects of maggot infested wounds were noted by military surgeons who observed that injured soldiers abandoned on the battlefield fared better and that their wounds healed faster when those wounds were infested with maggots.7 Himself having observed maggot infested wounds during his service in World War I, the orthopedic surgeon, William Baer, was the first to apply maggots systematically to nonhealing wounds while a professor at Johns Hopkins and Children s Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Baer presented his preliminary results in 1929,8 and his entire work in maggot therapy treating over 100 children with osteomyelitis and problematic soft tissue wounds was published posthumously in 1931.9 Technological Advancements That Have Optimized Maggot Therapy Within 5 years of Baer s groundbreaking work, over 1000 American, Canadian, and European surgeons were using maggots in their practice.10 Many hospitals operated their own insectaries for rearing and disinfecting the larvae. Rise and Fall of Maggot Therapy in the 1930s The three most common objections to maggot therapy during the 1930s were the hassle of making dressings, the difficulty in obtaining viable, germ free ... Although hiring independent contractors require higher pay, employers are more likely to save money by doing so. Hiring independent contractors would lead to losing some control over your workers since employers cannot control how they perform their task because you can t closely monitor their work, unlike employees. You can guide them to how you want a particular job to be done, but usually they will run their business their way. Since they enjoy autonomy to decide how to do the job at their best for which they have been hired. (Forbes, 2006) Independent contractors are hired as a short term worker, which means that they might not be working with the same company for another project the next time. Since, they usually operate on a first come, first serve basis, which can become inconvenient and disruptive for employers if they want to work with the same contractor for all of their projects. In addition, different contractors may perform their job in a different manner, which can lead to various results from each contractor. Therefore, hiring employees would be a better option for such employers. Another disadvantage is that because they are freelancers and work with various employers, they would only focus on promoting their brands but not the employers. Hart et al (2003) report momentum profits in 32 emerging markets. Griffin et al (2003) observe the profitability of momentum strategy internationally, as too did Richards (1997), Chan et al (2000) and Balvers and Wu (2006). A study by Hameed and Kusnadi (2002) address the existence of momentum profits in Asian markets, whereas Demir et al (2004) prove its existence in Australian markets 2 years later. However, while they were raised in the same era, came from the same city and were educated at the same university, they had decidedly different views regarding personality theories (Schultz, 1990, p. 120). Freud and Adler were both colleagues in the psychoanalytic movement that Freud started. However, because of personality differences and vastly contrasting views about personality theories (Mosak Maniacci, 1999, p.6) Adler left to begin his own faction, which he called Individual Psychology. It is my intention to briefly describe the main areas of their theories, compare and contrast their ideas of personality development, explore what types of experiences contributes to unhealthy development and what types of interventions they would have each prescribed to patients experiencing difficulties in their lives. However, while both Freud and Adler continue to influence many areas of contemporary personality psychology, only one of them can truly be called a humanitarian. Personality Development Freud believed that an individual s personality is formed through five psychosexual developmental stages. The oral stage which is formed in the first year of life is preoccupied with oral activities. The anal stage involves bowel function and control, and occurs during the second year of life.
