Analysis of the Handsomest Drowned Man in the World
The Handsomest Drowned Man in the world, written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez shows how the
villagers change from their everyday lives to an unknown experience that unites the people. This
change is symbolized through the drowned man. Marquez shows this as a valuable change that
develops the village in a beneficial way. The people show the common human instinct (that changes
from the norm) is appreciated and acknowledged. In the short story, The Handsomest Drowned
Man in the World, the drowned man transformed the village change from becoming an isolated and
ignorant village to a much happier and improved village.
The drowned man made such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It shows that a person has the ability to change an entire society and inspire others. The
transformation of this society comes entirely from within. The dead man is dead, which means
the change and transformation comes from the villagers entirely and that they are responsible
for whatever the society has turned into. It also shows that the village is entirely based on their
fantasy about a man who is dead. The people make the dead man a symbol of improvement,
when really it is their fantasy which they portray to change the atmosphere around them. The
villagers have a fantasy in their mind about the drowned man. They show their admiration and
project qualities onto him which they find to be valuable. Many people were paralyzed with
regard and attraction which can be shown when Marquiez states, Fascinated by his huge size
and his beauty the women then decided to make him some pants from a large piece of sac...
(Marquiez 3). This shows that the women had such a strong admiration and falling toward this
dead old man that even without knowing him, they judged him by his beauty. They called him
Esteban because of his looks and because they re perceived that if a man should be handsome, they
would be royal and smart. This scenario can be related back to a common phrase, judging a book
by its cover . The people looked at the man as a cover where they only saw

Candid View Of Leibniz s Optimism
A Candid View of Leibniz s Optimism
During the Age of Enlightenment, 18th century France was a hotbed of changing political and
intellectual thought. Many people began to question how things work and look to reason and
science rather than superstition and metaphysical thought for answers. Nontraditional thinkers
known as philosophes began to make their radical ideas public and soon European society was
taken by an intellectual storm.
The primary satirist of the French Enlightenment, Voltaire, was a deist and a renowned playwright.
Using his quick wit and talent with words, Voltaire satirized popular philosophy and political
thought through his most famous work titled Candide. With its fantastical and violent plot, the story
served as a public platform for Voltaire to criticize modern issues of religion, government and
philosophy. Specifically, Candide critiques the main ideas of German philosopher, Leibniz.
Candide is a parody of Leibniz dominant theory of possible worlds and pre established harmony.
The plot assaults Leibniz s optimism but provides some practical wisdom on how man should live.
According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voltaire wrote about the earthquake in Candide and also wrote a poem about the disaster to
challenge philosophical and theological optimism. In Candide before the earthquake, Pangloss
prevents Candide from saving a drowning character by reasoning that the specific place in which
he was drowning was created for the character to drown in. After the earthquake, Pangloss attempts
to console the survivors with the idea: things could not be otherwise... For, all this if or the best ...
for it is impossible that things should not be where they are, for all is well (241). Pangloss s
unconvincing justification for such great devastation weakens Leibniz theory that this world, where
so much suffering exists, is the best possible

Persuasive Essay On Dental Care
We all have 32 teeth in our mouth and they are indispensable. The tooth, in itself, consists of two
parts: the root buried in the bone and the crown that is in the oral cavity. In addition, the cost of a
quality brush is now quite low compared to the many benefits.
Dental care can help in many cases: to restore a devitalized tooth, to cover and support a tooth
that has a large filling when there is not much left healthy material, to protect a weakened tooth,
to cover a dental implant it is fixed with cement or is glued, to restore a broken cracked or very
worn tooth and to cover a poorly formed or discolored tooth. Dental care is usually reimbursed by
insurance.
The gum is the part of the oral mucosa that covers the maxillary bone and the mandible at the
level of the tooth implantation area. First of all, let s give you a little reminder of what dental care
is and why it is needed. Remember, many dental practices also offer periodontal dentistry, which is
gum care.
Regular brushing of the teeth allows removal of plaque. Today, the brush does almost everything
alone. The purpose of these devices is to eliminate food residues and dental plaque in the most
inaccessible areas of the mouth.
Different instruments allow to get rid of tartar. That s why dentists today almost unanimously
recommend the use of the electric toothbrush. Its micro pulsations and rotational movements are the
enemy of tartar. The tartar is then taken off. It is therefore an effective preventive weapon

The Threat Of New Entrants
3.2.3.1 Threat of New Entrants
The threat of new entrants is low in the natural food industry. Economies of scale decrease long
run average costs which generate lower prices for customers and give a firm the ability to expand.
Significant economies of scale for the natural food markets, including Whole Foods, are high, with
the ability to create large volumes with low costs. The barrier for both entering into and exiting
from the industry are strong. Entry to the natural food markets is either supermarkets changing their
corporate images or health retailers moving into supermarkets. The natural food industry is
currently dominating, which expands through new store openings with an assertive approach in its
founding years. Organic food markets diminished their expected comeback to increase volume by
choosing from incumbents through mergers and acquisitions. It is doubtful for local farmers to
become a strong force and enter the market individually since the majority is not willing to invest in
getting authorization with the government. It is easier for major companies to enter the market
because they can finance the kind of goods the consumers are looking for. Network externalities are
strong while there is no impact in spite of government protection of incumbents on profitability.
3.2.3.2 Power of Suppliers
The power of suppliers is medium to high for natural food industry. Several organic food markets
have a strong network of suppliers. Supermarkets are developing the

Daisy Miller Research Paper
In the novel Daisy Miller, writer Henry James shows the different cultures between American and
European. Henry James more like the American culture, he had confidence in American culture
and believed that America was a country of democracy and freedom. For his novels he always set
against a larger international background, usually between America and Europe by showing the
two different culture with two different groups of people representing two different value systems.
The pattern of his novels is use young American man or her destiny to show the conflict between
two cultures. The immature boy or girl would be cruelly wronged, betrayed and beguiled at the
hand, those who pretend to stand for the highest possible socialization. James usually uses marriage
and love as a focal point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this novel from those characteristics we can find how Henry James set this up. Europeans were
more concerned with are, more cultured and more aware of social situations. Americans were
innocent and have more moral issues. When James lived in Europe and he knew the European
culture that the rules you live by cannot be changed. So he uses Daisy Miller as represent
American as freedom, but Daisy Miller has never become the American girl in Europe. Just like
Giovanelli tells Winterbourne that Daisy was: the most beautiful young lady I ever saw, and the
most amiable... and the most innocent. In my opinion, if a person wants to successfully deal
with a new culture. He must first learn to affirm and respect different rules in that culture.
Because those rules are the rich experience of unman experience. Then, he should adjust himself
in a way based on who you are and how you live, so you can fit in the current situation. At the end
you should be able to socialize in a way that fits the old rule you usually live by and the new rule
you live by

Assess the Potential of Three Sources of Renewable Energy...
After experiencing the replacement of manual and animal labour by steam engines in the
Industrial Revolution, cheap fossil fuels then became the main source of energy. However, faced
with the notable increase demand for energy, fossil fuel, as a non renewable resource becomes
scarcer and more expensive nowadays. To solve this problem, the world needs to replace fossil
fuels with other sources of energy which are relatively low cost and more secure. Renewable energy
is such a potential energy. This essay will give an outline of three sources of renewable energy to
be used in developing nations, which are solar energy, wind powerand biomass. First, it will give a

Other developing nations such as Mexico, India, Egypt, etc are now making great efforts.
Admittedly, it will be worth an investment if the expense continues to fall down to an acceptable
extent, as predicted (Aringhoff et al, 2005; Seitz, 2002; and Middleton, 2003).
As another renewable energy widely used, wind power, which is now mainly used for generating
electricity today, has been used for thousands of years powering human activities. Unlike solar
energy previously mentioned, wind is caused by the uneven heating of the earth s surface by the
sun so that wind energy is an indirect form of solar energy (Volker, 2005). Wind is called a
renewable energy source owing to the infinite sun shines.
However, one crucial part of establishing a wind power system is high technology, which is now the
main defect in the developing world. Even in some developed countries such as Demark, lack of
expert engineers in the wind industry is noticeable. It is convincingly argues that there is quite an
engineering challenge especially for the less developed nations to design an efficient wind turbine
harnessing energy and turning it into electricity. In addition, it seems rather a challenge to offer
opportunities for technology transfer, training and practical experience for the industry and
potential wind energy supporting industries and organisations for the current developing world.
Contributions made by wind energy seem mainly to be the

Donald Trump And Xenophobia In The United States
Xenophobia an intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries. The idea of
xenophobia was heavily prominent in the 2016 presidential campaign, so it is not surprising that it
was voted the word of the year for 2016 (Dictionary.com, 2016). Donald Trump is considered to be
an xenophobic politician based on his comments made against different ethnic groups, such as
Mexicans; however, it is difficult to understand how a generation that supports diversity elected a
xenophobic president.
Historically speaking, there are genuinely xenophobic politicians who achieve votes from a sub
population that is indisputably xenophobic in nature. For example, American President Andrew
Jackson was elected as the 7th American President, resulting in the execution of the Indian
Removal Act of 1830, forcing several Native Americans nation to relocates from their ancestral
homelands . . . all to make way for those enslaved Africans being forcibly hauled into the Deep
South (Kendi, 2016). That being said, Americans maybe xenophobic due to significant historical
events that resulted in xenophobic policies, which eventually grew directly into the ideals of the
American people. Yet, the spread of the xenophobic ideas was not only due to... Show more content

Unfortunately, these policies become absorbed as xenophobic beliefs by the American population,
causing the continual support of xenophobic orders. Luckily, the implementation of xenophobic
ideas today is must more difficult than they were in the early Americas. That being said, what
differentiates past generations to present/future generations, is the accepting trend of diversity. In
other words, newer generations are supporting diversity and going against xenophobia; therefore, in
order to convince this new generation, politicians today use the media as tool to portray how
xenophobia is a necessary

Role Of Guilt In Macbeth
Focus Question: How do characters in the texts attempt to repress their guilt, and to what extent are
they successful?
Guilt is an emotion that we are all familiar with. It occurs when we act against our conscience, and
violate our moral code, which as humans, we often do. The degree of our guilt depends on how
significantly we view our misdeed. A psychotherapist, Maud Purcell, describes the more severe
cases of guilt as the greatest destroyer of emotional energy and says that staying consumed with
guilt will keep you from moving forward in a positive and productive way. Hence properly
dealing with guilt is crucial, which would explain why it is explored in many texts, including:
Macbeth by William Shakespeare, The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar... Show more content on

Set in the 11th century Scotland, killing her king would have been the greatest crime Lady
Macbeth could commit in her community. However, blinded by ambition, she chooses to ignore
her conscience, seeking spirits to stop up the access and passage to remorse, that no
compunctious visitings of nature shake my fell purpose. Lady Macbeth wants to be inhumane,
as she wants to feel and show neither remorse nor compassion the emotions that are part of being
human. Lady Macbeth s refusal to acknowledge her conscience may explain why at the start, we
as readers cannot identify any traces of her guilt. For example, immediately after the regicide,
unlike the guilt ridden Macbeth, Lady Macbeth declares that a little water clears us of this deed
. We can infer that she believes her sin is so insignificant that mere water can wash it away;
implying that there is no reason to feel guilty. Likewise, the narrator of The Tell Tale Heart at
first also tries to ignore his conscience and hence his guilt. We know this because Poe initially
positions us to see the narrator as a psychopath, someone who feels no empathy nor remorse, as
the narrator murders an old man whom he loved and who had never wronged [him] . Unlike
Lady Macbeth, object there was none the sole reason for his controlled and calculative murder
was because of the old man s vulture eye which made the narrator s blood [run] cold and chilled
the very marrow of [his] bones. After the successful murder and the cunning concealment of the
body, the narrator smiled gaily as [the old man s] eye would trouble him no more. He is so
cunning and has full control of his emotions that he even satisfied and convinced the police
officers. Poe compels us to question the humanity of the narrator, as he seems emotionless and
ruthless. Both characters denial of guilt seems to be successful at first. However, as the stories

Abstract: the open nature of the wireless medium leaves it vulnerable to drive or wedge packets
forcibly into a tight position referred as squeeze. This intentional interference with wireless
transmissions can be used as a launch pad for mounting Denial of Service attacks on wireless
networks typically; squeeze has been addressed under an external threat model. However, person
with depth knowledge of internet protocol specifications and network secrets can launch low
effort squeeze attacks that are difficult to detect and counter. In these attacks, the adversary is
active only for a short period of time, selectively targeting messages of high importance. We
illustrate the advantages of selective squeeze in terms of network performance degradation and
adversary effort by presenting two case studies; a selective attack on TCP and one on routing. In
this work, we address the problem of selective squeeze attacks in wireless networks. We show that
selective squeeze attacks can be launched by performing real time packet classification at the
physical layer. To reduce these attacks, we develop three schemes that prevent real time packet
classification by combining cryptographic primitives with physical layer attributes. We

Joe Sacco s On Satire
How and why is a social group represented in a particular way?
The cartoonists are the main social group portrayed in the cartoon On Satire by Joe Sacco, which
is published in The Guardian. On Satire portrays other cartoonists as obnoxious, insensitive
cavemen who often cross the line between satire and just outright offensive mockery of the
religious beliefs of Muslims. The purpose of the cartoon is to ridicule the black and white way of
representation of all Muslims as terrorists. Also he is aiming to get cartoonists to convince
governments and news outlets to consider ways in which to stop terrorism by understanding why
terrorism exists instead of just eradicating all Muslims and hoping that terrorism dies with them.

They are attempting to appeal to Logos, the logical side in the readers, and Pathos, the
emotional side or more specifically ability to empathize, respectively. Many cartoonists make
satires and ironic cartoons that are meant to bring something important to the artists into public
knowledge, and some just want to poke fun at some habits or traditions of other cultures and
religion. However there are those who take it too far, which is where Logos comes in. Most
readers, at least the ones the cartoons are not ridiculing, find it very easy to just laugh off an
offensive joke, but as demonstrated by Sacco, it s very easy to cross the line between a harmless,
informative joke and a borderline cruel mockery of something that is important or sacred to others.
Pathos, on the other hand, is used to appeal to the emotional side of readers by asking them to
empathize with the Jews that have been persecuted, as some believe, for simply been more
successful during a time of high rates of unemployment. Sacco obviously wants us to see that in the
right context almost anything can be hurtful. The statement When we draw a line, we are often

Carnival And Calypso Dance
The West Indian Dance of Calypso has a long history. Where its origins trace back to Africa it s
become popularized in Trinidadian culture and becomes the most popular around the holiday time
of Christmas. Since Calypso and Carnival have such strong connections there is some background
information that you definitely need to know. Carnival and Calypso are part of the colonial and
post colonial history of Caribbeanislands such as Trinidadand Antigua. As early as the 18th century,
Africans, who were at the time slaves living in Antigua, celebrated Carnival. They had used these
dances as a form of communication between each other, often times this was used to mock the
slave masters without them knowing. During this time in the 18th century the French planters used
carnival times to celebrate the period as a pre Lenten celebration, which was basically a
preparation period for the coming of lent . (Hughes)
All through these carnivals involved street procession costumes, music, dancing, and feasting. The
culture continued even after the British changed the French as colonial rulers. all through colonial
instances, slaves held separate celebrations. Their Carnival practices included stick fighting,
dancing, drumming, making a song and the staging of quick plays. role playing turned into an
integral a part of Carnival and remains the case these days. Ex slaves masqueraded as White slave
masters at the same time as others had been costumed as Kings and Queens of Britain, angels,

How Did Shakespeare Changed The World
Have you ever anticipated anything with abated breath, or have you ever been stuck in a pickle?
Maybe not, but most people have heard these common expression before and would know what
they refer to. What most people do not know is that these expressions are being quoted directly
out of parts of Shakespeare s work. Although for many it may not be readily apparent,
Shakespeare is an extremely influential person. He has affected the arts from literature to theater.
Although many people do not realize how important Shakespeare is, he has changed the world.
Shakespeare s influence on the English language and literature can be seen through many different
ways. One of the ways that Shakespeare has influenced our language is through the vocabulary
that he added to our dictionary. Shakespeare had a working vocabulary of more than 30,000
words. But if he did not have a word that he needed in order to adequately describe something, he
would simply create and merge existing words together.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have used the term of having gone on a wild goose chase you would be using a phrase that
originated from Romeo and Juliet (Anderson). Unfortunately, most people do not realize that
Shakespeare plays such an extremely important role in our dialect every day. Most people who
unknowingly use phrases and sayings that have come from Shakespeare on a regular basis do not
realize Shakespeare s importance in their lives. Marjorie Garber, a writer who holds great respect
for Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare sampled, Shakespeare quoted without quotation marks, has
become a lingua franca of modern cultural exchange (Garber). Many people use words, phrases, or

Summary Of Amy Tan s Rules Of The Game
Henry Wright Mrs. Chadwick English 10H 13 September 2017 The Rules of Relationships On a
day to day basis, it is easy for one to not acknowledge or think about the complexities of
relationships. It is often lost on the average person the introspective abilities necessary to
address and objectively view how they interact with others on a relational basis. This is an ever
present idea in the short story, Rules of the Game as a daughter struggles to prove herself to her
mother and seeks validation as comfort for not understanding why a mother treats her child the
way she does. In the short story The Rules of the Game , Amy Tan sheds a light on how

Asians more readily attribute a person s achievement to familial and communal nurturing, whereas
Americans more readily give this credit to an individual s own efforts and talents. Implicit in this
mother daughter struggle is a conflict contrasting Asian values, which emphasize familial and
communal honor, against American values, which reward individual achievement. Meimei s
decision to pursue chess as a passion creates a cultural divide between her and her mother.
Meimei veers toward American behavior as she pursues chess. Tan has her approach the game in
a classically American fashion, the result of which is a classic American success story. First
Meimei watches her brothers play, then begs them to teach her, and then takes more extreme

Essay about The National Health Services
The National health services (NHS) provides a comprehensive healthcare services across the
entire nation. It is considered to be UK s proudest institution, and is envied by many other
countries because of its free of cost health delivery to its population. Nevertheless, it is often
seen as a political football as it affects all of us in some way and hence everyone carry an opinion
about it (Cass, 2006). Factors such as government policies, funding, number of service users,
taxation etc all make up small parts of this large complex organisation. Therefore, any imbalances
within one sector can pose a substantial risk on the overall NHS (Wheeler Grice, 2000). This essay

However, a healthy lifestyle was seen to prevail among the rich population (Webster, 2002;
Geoffrey, 2011). Later, findings from a series of reports including report from Royal commission on
National Health Insurance in 1926; The Sankey Commission on Voluntary Hospitals in 1937; and
reports from British Medical Association (BMA) in 1930 and 1938, all collectively indicated that
inadequacy existed in the pattern of the services (Christopher, 2004; Webster, 2002). Evident were
reports of conflicting care and duplication of work between the municipal and voluntary hospitals
(Wheeler Grice, 2000). Additionally, world war had a huge impact on the health services and the
conditions in which hospitals, theatres, radiology and pathology department operated was very
poor. Thus, no machinery existed that supported running of a coordinated healthcare system, hence
a need for unified, simplified and cohesive system was felt (Smith, 2007). Furthermore, Royal
Commission s report suggested that funding for the health services might benefit from general
taxation rather than its basis on insurance principle (Christopher, 2004). However, it was not until
the Beveridge report in 1942, which provided a huge drive and momentum for a movement of
change in the health services. And within subsequent years seen were the proposals for NHS drawn
through the White Paper in 1944, then in 1946 the National Health Service Act and at last in 1948

The Pharos Lighthouse: Seventh Wonder of the Ancient World
The buildings of early Egypt were so impressive that two became known as wonders of the
ancient world. The first was the Great Pyramid of Giza which was built during Egypt s earliest
thriving years. Despite being considerably older, this pyramid dwarfs the seventh wonder of the
ancient world the Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria which was constructed over 2000 years later.
Built by one of the last rulers of ancient Egypt, Ptolemy I Sorter, the Pharos Lighthouse of
Alexandria sadly has been almost entirely lost, due to what is thought to have been the work of
earthquakes. Even so, the Pharos Lighthouse was estimated to be the ... Show more content on

From a poet named Poseidippos of Pella, who lived in Alexandria during the third century BC, we
learn that this statue almost certainly depicted Zeus the Savior, and he may have been
accompanied by Poseidon, the lord of the waves. However, others have suggested that the two
statues depicted the Dioscuri, who were the twin sons of Zeus and Leda and protectors of
seafarers. In fact, a gem which has recently been examined suggests that in fact the beacon on the
lighthouse may have been open and the statue, or perhaps a number of statues may not have

Aristotle And Heidegger s Views On What A Human Or Beings...
Aristotle and Heidegger have conflicting views on what a human or beings are. Although, there
are some similarities to each of their set of ideas. Aristotle has a clear hierarchical framework
classifying the differences between humans, animals, and plants. Heidegger opposes this strict
definitions by discussing this idea of Dasein which states of being there. Although, their approaches
to this topic are different with the types of question one asks and how they theorize about what is a
being. There is key similarities that they discuss almost two thousand years apart. Aristotle and
Heidegger are two philosophers that have tackled the enormous question, what is it to be a being?
This paper discusses the two different approaches to defining this long standing question. Aristotle
asks many what questions when talking about what is a living being. He discusses us as a specific
type of animals and how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy
when discussing the differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled
destructible mobile substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can
disintegrate when no soulis in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul
but not a rational soul compared to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal
is a living item that has perception. (413b1 5) These perceptions state that the animals have wants,

Flowers For Te An Invaluable Technique
Flowers for Tea Chabana, flowers for tea, is an invaluable technique that can be found in the
Japanese tea ceremony (Chanoyu). It was derived from the art of flower arranging, Ikebana, and has
its techniques rooted in Shintoism and Buddhism. First, the arrangements began as a way of
celebrating the seasons in conjunction with life and death that nature exhibits. It is the ephemeral
realm found within Buddhism and the celebration of nature which Shinto embodies that brought
these arts to their fruition. Also, this form of decoration near or in the tokonoma (alcove) is
displayed as a way of indicating the seasons or evoking the meaning of the kakejiku (scroll), as
well as, the feeling of wabi. Several varying themes are found throughout chabana in reference to
the underlying themes in chanoyu those being shin, gyo, so. These themes are attributed to the
formal, semi formal and informal teagatherings found in bowing, floral arrangements and floral
vessels found in the tea ceremony.
The development of chabana from ikebana is attributed to the tea master Sen no Rikyu. There are
several theories as to the reason why Rikyu brought flowers into the tea ceremony; the first was
that his wife placed a beautiful flower in the tokonoma in which a guest admired and the second
involved Toyotomi Hideyoshi. According to author Henry Mittwer, Hideyoshi had heard of rumors
of Rikyu s garden in which beautiful morning glories grew; when he was invited by Rikyu for

We ll never bring out just a me too product echoed in every department. The Gillette Connection
In 1967, the Braun brothers sold the company to an American consumer products giant, Gillette.
The Gillette Company, well known for its mass produced, mass marketed products like razors,
blades, and toiletries, hardly seemed the company to become the parent of an elite class German
firm. But Gillette was no stranger to Europe, having marketed its goods on the continent and in
Britain since the turn of the twentieth century. It now saw the Braun acquisition as an opportunity
to cover the dry end of the shaving business, as well as to extend its influence upward. Braun, for
its part, had by 1967 grown to over 5,700 employees and operated in 144 countries, but it was too
small to compete with the multinationals. Its management saw Gillette as a source of funding to
enable them to do so. Shortly afterwards, Braun moved its headquarters from Frankfurt to
Kronberg, a few kilometers away. For the first several years, Gillette left Braun s product strategy
intact while infusing some of its management expertise into the organization. Very few people knew
that this German company par excellence had an American owner. Braun expanded its operations in
other countries and began to extend its target markets beyond the opinion leaders it had originally
cultivated. Braun s Spanish operations were a case in point.

The Culture Of The Peoples From The Highlands Of Guatemala
Internally displaced peoples from the highlands of Guatemala, as in much of Latin America, often
seek refuge in the outskirts of their nations capitals. In Guatemala City and in other populous
Guatemalan cities throughout the country, families have made their lives anew after years of
violence and tragedy. The history of mass migration towards city centers and their outskirts can be
traced to the overthrow of the democratically elected president Jacobo Arbenz, in the year 1954,
which was the catalyst for a 36 year long civil war in the Central American nation. Many of the
countries indigenous Mayan population faced and still face high levels of discrimination, genocidal
violence, inadequate housing, coupled with high infant mortality rates, and low levels of literacy
and education attainment, their plight is one that is well documented. The indigenous populations
have remained in a more or less stagnate position, until recent upturns in the 21st century. In
addition, in the year 1992, Rigoberta Menchu, an indigenous Mayan woman was awarded the
Nobel Peace Prize for her activism and account of the extent of the Guatemalan genocide. The
Guatemalan republic one with high levels of biodiversity, and extremely abundant in natural
resources such a woods, jades, and minerals, I argue, has lead it s poor and its disenfranchised on a
road towards high ecological and environmental disaster, through misuse of their military,
inadequate policy, and planning when it comes to the dangers

How Does Alcohol Dehydrogenase
Question 1:
1.Enzymes: Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and Aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH)
2.Alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase helps separate the alcohol molecule, making

My Identity Crisis
My identity crisis started when I was about 9 years old. The realization that I was different from
friends, family, and my classmates were scary and hard to bare. As a young child, we are taught
and framed to be a certain way, think a certain way, and live a certain way according to the
family structure. Like most young girls I often fantasized about my wedding. What type of dress
I was going to wear, what colors I would pick and what type of dress my wife would choose. My
fantasies were often disrupted by the sound of my mothers voice instructing me to complete a task,
or letting me know she was home. At that very moment internal shame, and denial would set in.
This is not normal, a wife, why was I thinking about a wife? I don t like girls! I like Josh. That s
who I will marry, Josh. This type of self doubt and shame I would live with for years. What was
wrong with me, who am I, and why was my desires so different from my friends? Growing up I
kept pushing these feelings aside to follow the social norm. Often, I had thought about telling
my best friend, but the fear of being rejected or outed were way too much for a 14 year old to
deal with. I would go along with my friends, laugh about how cute the new boy was, put posters
on my walls of the most popular teen idols, and drool over the cute guy in the mall. Eventually I
would detach myself from a lot of my girlfriends and form friendships with guys. Guys were much
easier for me to relate to. I didn t have to talk about

Summary Of Imogen In Cloten
Imogen attaches her lover s personhood to his belongings, creating an association between one s
clothing and moral character, demonstrating the Elizabethan belief that materials were a physical
manifestation of one s identity.
After Imogen s refusal, Cloten is spurred to action and desires revenge, mentioning Posthumus
clothing four times before the scene ends, emphasizing how Cloten s materialistic mindset
identifies Posthumus primarily through his clothing (II.III.156, 158, 172, 180). As the play
progresses and Cloten learns of Imogen s whereabouts, he acquires some of Posthumus clothes and

Imogen s alter ego of Fidele allows her to experience new privileges, such as joining a hunt, that
she was previously denied because she was a woman, demonstrating a clear discrimination based on
gender (III.IV.107). Though crossdressing, Imogen is able to evade social gender rules, something
which those in power neither supported nor encouraged (Baker 313).
Imogen s maintains her disguise until the final scene when she pressures Iachimo into confessing
his trickery. Because he doesn t recognize Imogen, Iachimo admits he tricked Posthumus into
thinking Imogen was unfaithful so he could win the ring. Outraged, Posthumus hits Fidele,
thinking he played a role in Imogen s demise (V.V.268). Imogen s outfit that initially equated her
with the other men in the play s patriarchal society now negatively affects her by making it
acceptable for her to be hit. She immediately discards the identity of Fidele and reverts back to a
woman s place in society as a virtuous daughter and most constant wife (V.V.542 546). Despite the
freedom Imogen finds through her male disguise, the scene uses her re domestication to remind the
audience of the early modern belief that women s submission and obedience to their husbands and
fathers was considered best for society.

The Three Troubled Troopers
One for all, and all for one. This quote, traditionally associated with Alexandre Dumas novel The
Three Musketeers exemplifies the quixotic camaraderie often associated with soldiers in war. This

Maya Angelou Literary Analysis
Literary works represent an important part of culture. Literary has many elements that serve as
levers that every literary work stands on. Settings compose the nucleus for literary works and

Theatre As A Form Of Theatre
Theatre and live performance can serve so many purposes and one of them is to globally entertain
the audience and to shape the society through the lessons learnt from a performance or play. Theatre
exists because we are mimetic and communal beings, we seek order, finally we enjoy and need
entertainment.
Theatre as a form of entertainment is extremely popular all over the world, and it has been
designed to hold audience s attention for a long time, it has been the primary form of public
entertainment way before the advent of radio and movies (Foreman). Live performances are
known to get audience off their seats due to excitement and it can also change one s mood from
bad to good or vice versa.
Examples of theatre as a form of entertainment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This play has been revived many times since its premiere(Cruttwell).
The Role of the audience when it comes to theatric entertainment can be affected by the genre of
the play, space of the theatre, sitting arrangement and demographics. It is up to the audience to
make a performance better due to different reactions like echoing (being loud), laughter, standing
ovation and gasping.
Another great importance of theatre is the way it shapes the society. Firstly, theatre brings
people together as a community, Greek theatre is a good example of this, especially during the
festival of Dionysus, where the audience for plays would be over 1000 people. This gives the
community something to talk about therefore bringing people together. Theatre can also be of
importance because of the sense of identity it brings people, Theater, being such an ancient art,
has become part of the cultural heritage of many cultures. Peking Opera, Bunraku, Noh are all
specific to a culture and form a part of the identity of the people who belong to these cultures.
Theatre being used as an instrument for change is also important, nowadays, social media and
video are probably a more effective tool to effect change in society, but there is no media that can
cause a bigger impact than theater. Watching a live performance is much more likely to compel
you to act for change. The work of theorists like Bertolt Brecht and Augusto Boal is pretty much
completely based on this idea.

How Does Twain Use Irony In Huck Finn
After abandoning a wrecked ship and leaving a gang of murderers stranded, Huck thinks back on
what he has done, and how he feels wrong. Mark Twain criticizes the way people think about
others only after they have taken care of themselves. Only after saving himself and making sure he
was ok, does Huck begin to take others well being into consideration. Mark Twainshows the irony
in this as Huck went to great lengths to put the gang of criminals in the position they were in,
only to feel pity for them afterwards. This has always been apart of human behavior, and Twain
sets out to satirize this innate quality in people through the use of irony. By using the phrase,
even for murderers Twain shows that people are able to feel pity and remorse for anyone, yet, it
is often too late when people realize what they have done. This is one of Twain s more subtle
critiques in the way society functions, yet it is still an important critique. Instead of think of other

In order to justify it, Huck merely brushes off what he did, blaming it on the way he was brought
up. Twain criticizes another form of mob mentality through this quote, in that people often believe
that they cannot change themselves due to the way in which they were raised. Many people from
the time period would often stay in the same class as they were born into, simply just accepting
the fact that they could do nothing about it. While huck may seem serious about what he is saying
in the book, Twain s approach to the situation seems to be sarcastic, as he criticises how society
does not challenge how things are. Instead, the status quo seem to simply accept where they are in
life and just live. Twain tries to satirize and bring attention to the problem of acceptance within
social status, and thus, reveal that any person can take their life into their own hands if they truly

Molecular Visualization With High Throughput Screening (...
The in silico discovery of drugs saves millions of lives each year. As such, there is extensive
research into drug discovery. Molecular visualization is one of the most important parts of
structural biology and the drug discovery process. Molecular visualization with high throughput
screening (HTS) has been successful in the discovery of new drugs. Though HTS has been
effective it is expensive and covers a limited space. For these reasons, the high level visualization
of molecules provides help to cut the work performed in HTS. Together, they offer one of the most
effective methods in structure based drug discovery. On the whole, my aim is to simulate molecules
to find hidden proteinligand binding sites for the discovery of new drugs. I... Show more content on

This analysis follows a shift in genomics from identifying molecules to analyzing interactions in
the molecular network [12]. The effectiveness of each application is found by comparing several
features offered. Features compared include cost, availability, extensibility, difficulty, command
line access, scripting, selection and documentation [14], [15]. By comparing these categories, I
decide the most effective tool to use in structure based drug discovery. In a classic approach to
drug, discovery testing would begin in vivo. This would need the analysis of millions of molecules.
The molecular visualization of protein ligand interaction analysis tools can cut the number of
molecules that need screening by calculating their potential docking scores. I can narrow the scope
down to only those that are most likely to show strong performance. The first tool I look at is
Cytoscape [7]. A standalone application that has historically been successful in drug discovery. In
addition, I discuss molecular pathway techniques, proteome scale maps and, chemogenomics which
have all shown potential for drug discovery in the future.
Cytoscape is a popular tool used in molecular visualization. There are hundreds of plugins that can
enhance its functionality. In the analysis I use UCSF Chimera (Chimera), StructureViz2 and
RiNalyzer to uncover the protein ligand binding pockets contained in

Deteriorating Patient Essay
Effective observation of patient is the first crucial phase to identify deteriorating patients and
apply effective measure to care for them (Mandy, Christina David, 2009). Nurse s role is taking
care of patients, supporting, and helping them recovery them from disease or any medical
condition they came with and improving their quality of lives and get, them back to community to
function as normal. However, not always things go efficiently as planned. Nurses work with other
multi disciplinary team to accomplish the goal. A nurse encounter load of temperamental cases
therefore Nurse has immense responsibility for recognizing and rescuing the deteriorating
patients. It s a challenging work, which comes with plenty of clinical experiences and great deal
of knowledge. This can be very overwhelming and intense at time. Not all the nurses are
experienced and know how to handle it. Decision making is very crucial to the time. Partial
experience and basic level knowledge can make it difficult to care for deteriorating patients.
Reporting the doctor about any concerns regarding any changes of the patients can resolve the
patients. The lack of communication between disciplinary teams and the nurses can be a cause for
untimely action taken for deteriorating patients. The verbal information given to the doctor can be
irrelevant sometimes. Hence, it s very crucial in a health setting to recognize the deteriorating
patients. In this paper I will be transcribing how can a nurse recognizes

A Media Controlled Race Riot
A Media Controlled Race Riot
The very first thing millions of people do when they wake up is check their phones, and log into
whatever social media sites that they are a part of, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr,
and many more. On these sites, there are several ads or newspaper articles depicting different
political messages or views. These advertisements and news articles can easily influence our
thoughts on different aspects of life, such as religious view or racial identity. During the era of the
race riot, the people of this time had their own version of media: the newspaper. More often than
not, the first thing people did in the morning was read the newspaper. The image that comes to
mind is businessmen sitting on trains or families gathered together in the morning reading the
newspaper. In 1908, Springfield, Illinois experienced a race riot that was mainly controlled by the
opinion they were receiving from the material from the media that they read and viewed.
Material that was available to the people of Springfield were newspapers and occasionally plays.
A play that was taking place almost a year before a riot was seriously on the minds of Springfield
citizens was The Birth of a Nation. A major occurrence that happened almost every time this play
was to take place in a northern community was interracial violence in and around the theaters that
offered it (Roche pg. 25). It may have been a mistake, but Springfield s black newspaper the Forum

Essay on Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury was a dreamer. Bradbury had a skill at putting his dreams onto paper, and into
books. He dreams dreams of magic and transformation, good and evil, small town America and
the canals of Mars. His dreams are not only popular, but durable. His work consists of short
stories, which are not hard to publish, and keep in the public eye. His stories have stayed in print for
nearly three decades.
Ray Bradbury was born on August 22, 1920, in a small town of Waukegan,
Illinois. His parents were Leonard Spaulding and Esther Moberg Bradbury. His mother, Esther
Moberg loved films, she gave her son the middle name Douglas because of Douglas Fairbanks, and

After graduation Bradbury sold newspapers until he saved up enough money to buy a typewriter
and rent a small office. In the early 1940 s his stories appeared regularly in Weird Tales. quot;I
sold a story every month there for three or four years when I was (in my early twenties). Made the
magnificent sum of twenty dollars for each story. quot; Bradbury sold his first stories in 1945 to
quot;slick quot; magazines Collier s, Charm, and Mademoiselle.
Shortly after his marriage to Marguerite Susan McClure in 1947,
Bradbury s first book, Dark Carnival, was published by Arkham House. About this time, the idea
for an important book about Mars, a collection of loosely connected stories, came to Bradbury.
The subjects that engage Bradbury s pen are many: magic, horror, and monsters; rockets, robots,
time and space travel; growing up in the Midwest town in the 1920 s, and growing old in an
abandoned Earth colony on another planet.
Despite their themes, his stories contain a sense of wonder, often a sense of joy, and a lyrical and
rhythimic touch that sets his work apart.
Using an analytical approach to such stories is to do a kind of violence to them, but between the
dream and the finished story is a

An Interview With Modest Mussorgsky (1839 1881)
When were you born?
I was born on March 21, 1839 in Karevo, Russia. My father was a landowner.
Did you come from a musical family?
No, not really. My mother taught me to play the piano, but my father wanted me to pursue a
military career. I was not formally trained as a musician.
So you ended up in the military? Tell me about your experience.
I was a teenage officer and I met many people. At the time, I didn t know that I would later work
with them as composers. I met Aleksandr Borodin, who was a medical officer. I was also
introduced to Cesar Cui and Miley Balakirev. They too were military officers.
I have heard that you were in a group called The Mighty Five or the Mighty Handful . What was
this group?
At age 18, I joined a group of other part time Russian composers. It was formed by Mily Balakirev
and Cesar Cui, both of whom I met during my military career. The three of us were joined by
Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov and Alexander Borodin. We were all musical

Daisy Buchanan is going to stay with her cheating husband Tom Buchanan instead of leaving him

seems to be a closer connection with Gatsby. A love triangle is then created between the three
which leads to an extraordinary argument between both Tom and Gatsby fighting over Daisy and
later leading to the death of Gatsby himself. Although many say Daisy should have not ended up

With this Daisy see s that Tom will always have his wealth to support her whenever it is needed.
To respond to the arguments Gatsby made, Tom first argues that Daisy Doesn t know what she s
doing (pg 138). This argument made by Tom is important in his argument since saying that
about Daisy is almost a snap back into reality for Daisy. By her hearing what Tom said, Daisy is
able to realized that maybe she really does not know what she is doing by having any thoughts
about leaving for Gatsby while she is married to Tom. After that being said, Tom goes on to
expose Gatsby and his past secret life and how I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw
him, and I wasn t far wrong (pg 140). This argument made by Tom is his attempt to show how
people whose wealth is new money, which is what Gatsby qualifies under due to him earning his
money through the new bootlegging business, is not as respected as his own wealth coming
from old money, which is what Tom qualifies under since he was borned and raised in a wealthy
family and has always had a source of wealth to live off from. By Tom showing Daisy the bad
connotation Gatsby s wealth contains, he would want Daisy to realize how she is both better and
safer off with Tom who is wealthy with old money and will always be wealthy rather than Gatsby
who earned his wealth in a shady way and might not always have a wealthy

Becoming Charlemagne Summary
Becoming Charlemagne: Europe, Baghdad, and the Empires of A.D. 800
2006
The subject of this report is the book Becoming Charlemagne: Europe, Baghdad, and the Empires
of A.D. 800. While reading this book, it seemed as if the author was quite biased towards
Charlemagne, and he wanted him to look better than he really was. Also this book was written as
if it were a novel, so it did not come across as a nonfiction book, even though the entire story was
based on facts. The author s main purpose of this book was to better Charlemagne s image in history
by, his portrayal of Charlemagne s accomplishments, how well the author believes Charlemagne

Sypeck, gave a very good overview of the accomplishments of Charlemagne, even though he may
have glorified him a little more than necessary, but his accomplishments were quite extravagant.
However the author left out bad things such as, how Charlemagne had tribes of local Germans
killed. The author gave a large amount of information on the other kingdoms of that time, almost
as much as he did on Charlemagne. He did however, show how one man could influence so
many people even hundreds of years later. Sypeck wrote about how Charlemagne had to
overcome so many obstacles and he is still considered one of the great rulers of the olden days.
Another great feat of Charlemagne was keeping the Byzantine Empire from taking over his vast
empire. He also wrote about how Charlemagne was a very good military strategist, and a very
convincing diplomatic leader. There were two maps in this book that would allow the readers to
see what Charlemagne had under his control, and also the surrounding kingdoms around him had
under their control, as for charts and graphs, there were not any. These maps showed how
Charlemagne s empire was so close to the Byzantine empire, so it was a constant struggle for him
to keep them at

Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain Essay
Marcel Duchamp s Fountain by Sarah Shea HUMN406 01 Professor Nelson
Marcel Duchamp s Fountain People often ask what constitutes good art. Who decides whether or
not a piece is art and whether it is good art or not? Marcel Duchamp challenged popular notions
of his day about what art actually is. Duchamp, a French artist living in New York at the turn of
the century, believed that it was up to the artist to determine what art is. Duchamp is most famous
for a type of sculpture he created called readymades 1. Readymades are ordinary functional
household objects that have either been joined to other objects, or chosen to stand alone as
sculpture. Examples of his readymades include a coat hanger nailed to the floor of his studio, a hat

There was much ado over these happenings. Articles appeared in major newspapers regarding it,
but still no one knew who Richard Mutt was. An article also appeared in The Blind Man, an art
journal Duchamp himself published. The anonymous author of the article defended the
Fountain as art and went on to say The only works of art America has given are her plumbing
and her bridges. 3 This was the early 1900 s, so at this time the idea of modern art was still fairly
new. People were starting to get use to it, but were not comfortable enough to be introduced to
something such as Fountain. A bathroom fixture, especially a urinal, was considered too
inappropriate, and was even said to be immoral. In that same article in The Blind Man, the
author defends Fountain on this matter by saying, Now Mr. Mutt s fountain is not immoral, that
is absurd, no more than a bath tub is immoral. It is a fixture that you see every day in plumbers
show windows. This is a very true statement; after all, bathtubs are not considered immoral are
they? However, it being a urinal, and because of its reference to unpleasant bodily functions, it
may seem inappropriate to have to study and examine it for any period of time, like art is suppose
to be studied. This is certainly valid reasoning. Perhaps, however, because the urinal was flipped
onto its back, and called Fountain rather than Urinal , it is divorced from the whole bathroom scene,

Tattoos and Society Essay
A persons image is vital when meeting someone for the first time. Our peers, employers, family,
superiors, even strangers that you walk past can automatically judge someone, and imagine how
they present themselves to the world. Tattoos have been predominantly linked with a rebellious
attitude and pictured on out of control stereotypes such as rock starts, bikers, sailors, and
disobedient teenagers who want nothing more than to hack off their parents. With a new coming of
age generation and a step into a more lenient and liberal society these types of patrons still

Tattoo artist were mainly middle aged men, who worked at the hole in the wall tattoo parlors.
Body art also became known to be seen at circuses, and freak shows sometimes being next to
people with disabilities or natural born wonders (DeMallo). Until the golden age of tattooing, which
took place in the twentieth century, when parlors were actually next to things like barber shops,
and retail stores. Margo DeMallo describe body art at the end of the sixties as fragmented into
different forms that corresponded to different social groups: servicemen, gang members,
convicts, bikers, and working class men and woman (DeMallo). Not only have attitudes towards
tattoos changed from their historic start but also the reasons for getting them. As time progressed
so did the art of the tattoo, it has largely always been a favorite of individuals serving in the
armed forces but outcast archetypes began to use tattoos as an outlet for artistic expression and
shock value. Biker gangs all along the West Coast used tattoos to signify which gang they
belonged to. Rock stars began to paint themselves with tattoos to illustrate their outlaw ways. Rock

anything deemed cool by them were from then on out banned by most middle to upper class
citizens. It was not the act itself of painting your body it was what it represented. Teenagers acting

injury such as knee, elbow and hand injuries. Basketball can be high risk. I ve seen some very
graphic injuries from watching a basketball game. All sports have some sort of injury possibility,
but this oe would definitely be on the bottom of the rest. Main injuries are ankle sprains, jammed

The New York Times Of India, And The Guardian The United...
The three different newspaper article providers that I chose are the New York Times, The Times
of India, and The Guardian the United Kingdom edition. The article that I chose to compare
between the three of them is about President Trump choosing his security advisors. I thought that it
would be something that would spark many different opinions on a recent debate would be
interesting to explore. The article itself is about President Trump choosing three of his new
advisors for CIA Director which he appointed Mike Pompeo, for Attorney General, Jeff Sessions,
and for National Security Advisor, Michael T. Flynn. It will be interesting to see what these
newspapers have to say about their opinion of these men and how they portray them.
The problem for many people is that people are afraid of what Donald Trump is going to try and do
with the United States government during his four years in the presidential seat. With his selection
of who he has asked to be leaders within his cabinet is another problem that the newly elected
President is going to have to face in the coming months. Many people in the U.S. are upset over his
picks due to the fact that they feel that they will be unfair and possibly unjust to the immigrants
living within the U.S. While the other portion of people here are looking forward to a new positive
change within their government with the new conservative leaders.

Mid Term Break By Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney is a poet born in Northern Ireland, County Derry, in 1939. His birth thus aligned
with the beginnings of the second world war and he was exposed to conflict and sectarian violence,
division between Catholics and Protestants, from a young age. Themes of nationalism, patriotism
and British imperialism are often featured in his works. This is the case in Requiem for the
Croppies, a poem published on the 50th anniversary of the Easter uprising of 1916 which alludes to
the 1798 Vinegar Hill Rebellion for independence. Through structure, irony, the creation of a
persona, rhythm, iambic pentameter, rhyme and intricate figurative language, this text invites us to
experience the lives of the Irish rebels fighting for freedom and... Show more content on

Through the use of emotive language and diction to create a binary opposition, Heaney
highlights his struggles and the themes of coming of age and growing up by constructing the
persona as uncomfortable and awkward. This is done through the binary opposition of I was
embarrassed by old men standing up to shake my hand and my mother held my hand in hers
where the repetition of the diction of hand creates direct contrast. While in the first example
Heaney is being treated like a man, in the latter he is shown as a boy, vulnerable and in need of
support. The diction of embarrassed further implies how he is uncomfortable at the idea of being
treated like a grown up. The poem is also narrated from a first person point of view, thus
positioning the reader into Heaney s perspective to showcase the effects of the passing. It not only
directly conveys Heaney s experiences, such as the way people treated him, but also his internal
struggles and feelings. In this way, the poem invites us to experience the internal and external
facets of his life. Mid term Break is composed of stanzas consisting of three lines each, the
regularity of which is juxtaposed with the large amounts of caesura and broken iambic pentameter
to make commentary on the sudden nature of death and the fragile human experience. The
uniformity of the stanzas size mirrors the everyday, ordinary life which may seem boring and
monotone. The poem s punctuation in terms of caesura breaks

  • 2. The Handsomest Drowned Man Essay Sneha Mittal Ms. Lepore 8 November, 2015 AP English 11 Analysis of the Handsomest Drowned Man in the World The Handsomest Drowned Man in the world, written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez shows how the villagers change from their everyday lives to an unknown experience that unites the people. This change is symbolized through the drowned man. Marquez shows this as a valuable change that develops the village in a beneficial way. The people show the common human instinct (that changes from the norm) is appreciated and acknowledged. In the short story, The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World, the drowned man transformed the village change from becoming an isolated and ignorant village to a much happier and improved village. The drowned man made such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It shows that a person has the ability to change an entire society and inspire others. The transformation of this society comes entirely from within. The dead man is dead, which means the change and transformation comes from the villagers entirely and that they are responsible for whatever the society has turned into. It also shows that the village is entirely based on their fantasy about a man who is dead. The people make the dead man a symbol of improvement, when really it is their fantasy which they portray to change the atmosphere around them. The villagers have a fantasy in their mind about the drowned man. They show their admiration and project qualities onto him which they find to be valuable. Many people were paralyzed with regard and attraction which can be shown when Marquiez states, Fascinated by his huge size and his beauty the women then decided to make him some pants from a large piece of sac... (Marquiez 3). This shows that the women had such a strong admiration and falling toward this dead old man that even without knowing him, they judged him by his beauty. They called him Esteban because of his looks and because they re perceived that if a man should be handsome, they would be royal and smart. This scenario can be related back to a common phrase, judging a book by its cover . The people looked at the man as a cover where they only saw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Candid View Of Leibniz s Optimism A Candid View of Leibniz s Optimism During the Age of Enlightenment, 18th century France was a hotbed of changing political and intellectual thought. Many people began to question how things work and look to reason and science rather than superstition and metaphysical thought for answers. Nontraditional thinkers known as philosophes began to make their radical ideas public and soon European society was taken by an intellectual storm. The primary satirist of the French Enlightenment, Voltaire, was a deist and a renowned playwright. Using his quick wit and talent with words, Voltaire satirized popular philosophy and political thought through his most famous work titled Candide. With its fantastical and violent plot, the story served as a public platform for Voltaire to criticize modern issues of religion, government and philosophy. Voltaire wrote about the earthquake in Candide and also wrote a poem about the disaster to challenge philosophical and theological optimism. In Candide before the earthquake, Pangloss prevents Candide from saving a drowning character by reasoning that the specific place in which he was drowning was created for the character to drown in. After the earthquake, Pangloss attempts to console the survivors with the idea: things could not be otherwise... For, all this if or the best ... for it is impossible that things should not be where they are, for all is well (241). Pangloss s unconvincing justification for such great devastation weakens Leibniz theory that this world, where so much suffering exists, is the best possible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sun was already setting, even though it was just after three. I remembered when I had gone to Middle School, during winter, of having to walk through Arkham s icy atmosphere instead relaxing in the warm luxury of riding in the car, which we d sold to defray, in part, another of the old man s expeditions, this time to Nepal in search of the legendary Plateau of Leng. Across the room, however, was my real arsenal: a two tiered bookcase made of pressed particleboard that I d picked up at a garage sale for five dollars. Crammed in it and disguised by a simple holographic misrepresentation which caused the volumes on the shelves to appear as a complete run of the Ace Science Fiction Specials from the 1960s, was in fact such a collection of ancient tomes of mind blasting lore as to give the cognoscenti of such things many sleepless nights: The Book of Eibon, Cultes des Goules, De Vermis Mysteriis, The Eltdown Shards, The People of the Monolith, The Pnakotic Manuscripts, the Seven Cryptical Books of Hsan, Unaussprechlichen Kulten, and the dreaded Al azif itself, know also as the Necronomicon. I d registered earlier the sound of my client or so I hoped standing and moving desultorily about the outer office. • 9. Persuasive Essay On Dental Care We all have 32 teeth in our mouth and they are indispensable. The tooth, in itself, consists of two parts: the root buried in the bone and the crown that is in the oral cavity. In addition, the cost of a quality brush is now quite low compared to the many benefits. Dental care can help in many cases: to restore a devitalized tooth, to cover and support a tooth that has a large filling when there is not much left healthy material, to protect a weakened tooth, to cover a dental implant it is fixed with cement or is glued, to restore a broken cracked or very worn tooth and to cover a poorly formed or discolored tooth. Dental care is usually reimbursed by insurance. The gum is the part of the oral mucosa that covers the maxillary bone and the mandible at the level of the tooth implantation area. First of all, let s give you a little reminder of what dental care is and why it is needed. Remember, many dental practices also offer periodontal dentistry, which is gum care. Regular brushing of the teeth allows removal of plaque. Today, the brush does almost everything alone. The purpose of these devices is to eliminate food residues and dental plaque in the most inaccessible areas of the mouth. Different instruments allow to get rid of tartar. That s why dentists today almost unanimously recommend the use of the electric toothbrush. Its micro pulsations and rotational movements are the enemy of tartar. The tartar is then taken off. It is therefore an effective preventive weapon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Threat Of New Entrants 3.2.3.1 Threat of New Entrants The threat of new entrants is low in the natural food industry. Economies of scale decrease long run average costs which generate lower prices for customers and give a firm the ability to expand. Significant economies of scale for the natural food markets, including Whole Foods, are high, with the ability to create large volumes with low costs. The barrier for both entering into and exiting from the industry are strong. Entry to the natural food markets is either supermarkets changing their corporate images or health retailers moving into supermarkets. The natural food industry is currently dominating, which expands through new store openings with an assertive approach in its founding years. Organic food markets diminished their expected comeback to increase volume by choosing from incumbents through mergers and acquisitions. It is doubtful for local farmers to become a strong force and enter the market individually since the majority is not willing to invest in getting authorization with the government. It is easier for major companies to enter the market because they can finance the kind of goods the consumers are looking for. Network externalities are strong while there is no impact in spite of government protection of incumbents on profitability. 3.2.3.2 Power of Suppliers The power of suppliers is medium to high for natural food industry. Several organic food markets have a strong network of suppliers. Supermarkets are developing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Henry James more like the American culture, he had confidence in American culture and believed that America was a country of democracy and freedom. For his novels he always set against a larger international background, usually between America and Europe by showing the two different culture with two different groups of people representing two different value systems. The pattern of his novels is use young American man or her destiny to show the conflict between two cultures. Because those rules are the rich experience of unman experience. Then, he should adjust himself in a way based on who you are and how you live, so you can fit in the current situation. • 12. Assess the Potential of Three Sources of Renewable Energy... After experiencing the replacement of manual and animal labour by steam engines in the Industrial Revolution, cheap fossil fuels then became the main source of energy. However, faced with the notable increase demand for energy, fossil fuel, as a non renewable resource becomes scarcer and more expensive nowadays. To solve this problem, the world needs to replace fossil fuels with other sources of energy which are relatively low cost and more secure. Renewable energy is such a potential energy. This essay will give an outline of three sources of renewable energy to be used in developing nations, which are solar energy, wind powerand biomass. Other developing nations such as Mexico, India, Egypt, etc are now making great efforts. Admittedly, it will be worth an investment if the expense continues to fall down to an acceptable extent, as predicted (Aringhoff et al, 2005; Seitz, 2002; and Middleton, 2003). As another renewable energy widely used, wind power, which is now mainly used for generating electricity today, has been used for thousands of years powering human activities. Unlike solar energy previously mentioned, wind is caused by the uneven heating of the earth s surface by the sun so that wind energy is an indirect form of solar energy (Volker, 2005). Wind is called a renewable energy source owing to the infinite sun shines. However, one crucial part of establishing a wind power system is high technology, which is now the main defect in the developing world. Even in some developed countries such as Demark, lack of expert engineers in the wind industry is noticeable. It is convincingly argues that there is quite an engineering challenge especially for the less developed nations to design an efficient wind turbine harnessing energy and turning it into electricity. In addition, it seems rather a challenge to offer opportunities for technology transfer, training and practical experience for the industry and potential wind energy supporting industries and organisations for the current developing world. The idea of xenophobia was heavily prominent in the 2016 presidential campaign, so it is not surprising that it was voted the word of the year for 2016 (Dictionary.com, 2016). Donald Trump is considered to be an xenophobic politician based on his comments made against different ethnic groups, such as Mexicans; however, it is difficult to understand how a generation that supports diversity elected a xenophobic president. Historically speaking, there are genuinely xenophobic politicians who achieve votes from a sub population that is indisputably xenophobic in nature. For example, American President Andrew Jackson was elected as the 7th American President, resulting in the execution of the Indian Removal Act of 1830, forcing several Native Americans nation to relocates from their ancestral homelands . . . all to make way for those enslaved Africans being forcibly hauled into the Deep South (Kendi, 2016). • 14. Role Of Guilt In Macbeth Focus Question: How do characters in the texts attempt to repress their guilt, and to what extent are they successful? Guilt is an emotion that we are all familiar with. It occurs when we act against our conscience, and violate our moral code, which as humans, we often do. The degree of our guilt depends on how significantly we view our misdeed. A psychotherapist, Maud Purcell, describes the more severe cases of guilt as the greatest destroyer of emotional energy and says that staying consumed with guilt will keep you from moving forward in a positive and productive way. Hence properly dealing with guilt is crucial, which would explain why it is explored in many texts, including: Macbeth by William Shakespeare, The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar... However, blinded by ambition, she chooses to ignore her conscience, seeking spirits to stop up the access and passage to remorse, that no compunctious visitings of nature shake my fell purpose. Lady Macbeth wants to be inhumane, as she wants to feel and show neither remorse nor compassion the emotions that are part of being human. Lady Macbeth s refusal to acknowledge her conscience may explain why at the start, we as readers cannot identify any traces of her guilt. For example, immediately after the regicide, unlike the guilt ridden Macbeth, Lady Macbeth declares that a little water clears us of this deed . We can infer that she believes her sin is so insignificant that mere water can wash it away; implying that there is no reason to feel guilty. Likewise, the narrator of The Tell Tale Heart at first also tries to ignore his conscience and hence his guilt. We know this because Poe initially positions us to see the narrator as a psychopath, someone who feels no empathy nor remorse, as the narrator murders an old man whom he loved and who had never wronged [him] . Unlike Lady Macbeth, object there was none the sole reason for his controlled and calculative murder was because of the old man s vulture eye which made the narrator s blood [run] cold and chilled the very marrow of [his] bones. After the successful murder and the cunning concealment of the body, the narrator smiled gaily as [the old man s] eye would trouble him no more. He is so cunning and has full control of his emotions that he even satisfied and convinced the police officers. Poe compels us to question the humanity of the narrator, as he seems emotionless and ruthless. Both characters denial of guilt seems to be successful at first. Packet Hiding Methods For Avoiding Attacks Packet Hiding methods For Avoiding Attacks R.Roopini M.Tech, Software Engineering Ganapathy Engineering College , Hunter Raod ,Warangal Mr.K.Ranjith Khanna Assistant Professor, Department of CSE Ganapathy Engineering College , Hunter Raod ,Warangal Abstract: the open nature of the wireless medium leaves it vulnerable to drive or wedge packets forcibly into a tight position referred as squeeze. This intentional interference with wireless transmissions can be used as a launch pad for mounting Denial of Service attacks on wireless networks typically; squeeze has been addressed under an external threat model. However, person with depth knowledge of internet protocol specifications and network secrets can launch low effort squeeze attacks that are difficult to detect and counter. In these attacks, the adversary is active only for a short period of time, selectively targeting messages of high importance. We illustrate the advantages of selective squeeze in terms of network performance degradation and adversary effort by presenting two case studies; a selective attack on TCP and one on routing. In this work, we address the problem of selective squeeze attacks in wireless networks. We show that selective squeeze attacks can be launched by performing real time packet classification at the physical layer. To reduce these attacks, we develop three schemes that prevent real time packet classification by combining cryptographic primitives with physical layer attributes. We ... It was derived from the art of flower arranging, Ikebana, and has its techniques rooted in Shintoism and Buddhism. First, the arrangements began as a way of celebrating the seasons in conjunction with life and death that nature exhibits. It is the ephemeral realm found within Buddhism and the celebration of nature which Shinto embodies that brought these arts to their fruition. Also, this form of decoration near or in the tokonoma (alcove) is displayed as a way of indicating the seasons or evoking the meaning of the kakejiku (scroll), as well as, the feeling of wabi. This is not normal, a wife, why was I thinking about a wife? I don t like girls! I like Josh. That s who I will marry, Josh. This type of self doubt and shame I would live with for years. What was wrong with me, who am I, and why was my desires so different from my friends? Growing up I kept pushing these feelings aside to follow the social norm. Often, I had thought about telling my best friend, but the fear of being rejected or outed were way too much for a 14 year old to deal with. I would go along with my friends, laugh about how cute the new boy was, put posters on my walls of the most popular teen idols, and drool over the cute guy in the mall. Eventually I would detach myself from a lot of my girlfriends and form friendships with guys. Guys were much easier for me to relate to. I didn t have to talk about ... Summary Of Imogen In Cloten Imogen attaches her lover s personhood to his belongings, creating an association between one s clothing and moral character, demonstrating the Elizabethan belief that materials were a physical manifestation of one s identity. After Imogen s refusal, Cloten is spurred to action and desires revenge, mentioning Posthumus clothing four times before the scene ends, emphasizing how Cloten s materialistic mindset identifies Posthumus primarily through his clothing (II.III.156, 158, 172, 180). As the play progresses and Cloten learns of Imogen s whereabouts, he acquires some of Posthumus clothes and plans, With that suit upon my / back, will I ravish her (III.V.163 164). Imogen s alter ego of Fidele allows her to experience new privileges, such as joining a hunt, that she was previously denied because she was a woman, demonstrating a clear discrimination based on gender (III.IV.107). Though crossdressing, Imogen is able to evade social gender rules, something which those in power neither supported nor encouraged (Baker 313). Imogen s maintains her disguise until the final scene when she pressures Iachimo into confessing his trickery. Because he doesn t recognize Imogen, Iachimo admits he tricked Posthumus into thinking Imogen was unfaithful so he could win the ring. Outraged, Posthumus hits Fidele, thinking he played a role in Imogen s demise (V.V.268). Imogen s outfit that initially equated her with the other men in the play s patriarchal society now negatively affects her by making it acceptable for her to be hit. She immediately discards the identity of Fidele and reverts back to a woman s place in society as a virtuous daughter and most constant wife (V.V.542 546). Despite the freedom Imogen finds through her male disguise, the scene uses her re domestication to remind the audience of the early modern belief that women s submission and obedience to their husbands and fathers was considered best for society. This quote, traditionally associated with Alexandre Dumas novel The Three Musketeers exemplifies the quixotic camaraderie often associated with soldiers in war. Vonnegut gives us an image of Billy as limping up and down and not walking in an orderly, straight manner. This contrasts with the quick, smart march often associated with soldiers. Theatre As A Form Of Theatre Theatre and live performance can serve so many purposes and one of them is to globally entertain the audience and to shape the society through the lessons learnt from a performance or play. Theatre exists because we are mimetic and communal beings, we seek order, finally we enjoy and need entertainment. Theatre as a form of entertainment is extremely popular all over the world, and it has been designed to hold audience s attention for a long time, it has been the primary form of public entertainment way before the advent of radio and movies (Foreman). Live performances are known to get audience off their seats due to excitement and it can also change one s mood from bad to good or vice versa. Examples of theatre as a form of entertainment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This play has been revived many times since its premiere(Cruttwell). The Role of the audience when it comes to theatric entertainment can be affected by the genre of the play, space of the theatre, sitting arrangement and demographics. It is up to the audience to make a performance better due to different reactions like echoing (being loud), laughter, standing ovation and gasping. Another great importance of theatre is the way it shapes the society. Firstly, theatre brings people together as a community, Greek theatre is a good example of this, especially during the festival of Dionysus, where the audience for plays would be over 1000 people. This gives the community something to talk about therefore bringing people together. Theatre can also be of importance because of the sense of identity it brings people, Theater, being such an ancient art, has become part of the cultural heritage of many cultures. Peking Opera, Bunraku, Noh are all specific to a culture and form a part of the identity of the people who belong to these cultures. Theatre being used as an instrument for change is also important, nowadays, social media and video are probably a more effective tool to effect change in society, but there is no media that can cause a bigger impact than theater. Watching a live performance is much more likely to compel you to act for change. The work of theorists like Bertolt Brecht and Augusto Boal is pretty much completely based on this idea. ... Mark Twain criticizes the way people think about others only after they have taken care of themselves. Mark Twainshows the irony in this as Huck went to great lengths to put the gang of criminals in the position they were in, only to feel pity for them afterwards. This has always been apart of human behavior, and Twain sets out to satirize this innate quality in people through the use of irony. By using the phrase, even for murderers Twain shows that people are able to feel pity and remorse for anyone, yet, it is often too late when people realize what they have done. People were starting to get use to it, but were not comfortable enough to be introduced to something such as Fountain. A bathroom fixture, especially a urinal, was considered too inappropriate, and was even said to be immoral. Margo DeMallo describe body art at the end of the sixties as fragmented into different forms that corresponded to different social groups: servicemen, gang members, convicts, bikers, and working class men and woman (DeMallo). Not only have attitudes towards tattoos changed from their historic start but also the reasons for getting them. As time progressed so did the art of the tattoo, it has largely always been a favorite of individuals serving in the armed forces but outcast archetypes began to use tattoos as an outlet for artistic expression and shock value. Biker gangs all along the West Coast used tattoos to signify which gang they belonged to. Rock stars began to paint themselves with tattoos to illustrate their outlaw ways. Rock n Roll was the devils music to those unfamiliar ears listening to it in the mid 20th century and so anything deemed cool by them were from then on out banned by most middle to upper class citizens. It was not the act itself of painting your body it was what it represented. Teenagers acting out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some sports require more pads than others do. Not all athletes feel safe in their own sport. Some athletes are more prone to injury in other sports. The injuriesplayers face in football are awful. It s a high risk sport. Players of the sport retire so early from the NFL because of the massive hits. It really takes a toll to their body. Some players retire by thirty years old for reasons like injuries. ACL/MCL tears are the most common injurythat is actually serious. Hits, blocking shots, constantly being hit by sticks; all of these can cause some form of injury. Players face lots of bruises, but some of these can cause a more serious, long term injury such as knee, elbow and hand injuries. Basketball can be high risk. I ve seen some very graphic injuries from watching a basketball game. All sports have some sort of injury possibility, but this oe would definitely be on the bottom of the rest. Main injuries are ankle sprains, jammed fingers, or some of the possible more severe injuries include knee injuries. My experience with injuries aren t a whole lot, because I would like to say I don t put myself into situation to get hurt a whole lot. I have faced a lot of bruises in lacrosse and they hurt, but they eventually go away. I have been in a lot of pain after a few slashes to my hand, I came out right away because of the pain. • 52. The New York Times Of India, And The Guardian The United... The three different newspaper article providers that I chose are the New York Times, The Times of India, and The Guardian the United Kingdom edition. The article that I chose to compare between the three of them is about President Trump choosing his security advisors. I thought that it would be something that would spark many different opinions on a recent debate would be interesting to explore. The article itself is about President Trump choosing three of his new advisors for CIA Director which he appointed Mike Pompeo, for Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, and for National Security Advisor, Michael T. Flynn. It will be interesting to see what these newspapers have to say about their opinion of these men and how they portray them. The problem for many people is that people are afraid of what Donald Trump is going to try and do with the United States government during his four years in the presidential seat. With his selection of who he has asked to be leaders within his cabinet is another problem that the newly elected President is going to have to face in the coming months. Many people in the U.S. are upset over his picks due to the fact that they feel that they will be unfair and possibly unjust to the immigrants living within the U.S. While the other portion of people here are looking forward to a new positive change within their government with the new conservative leaders. The headline for the New York Times is Donald Trump is Choosing His Cabinet. Here s the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Mid Term Break By Seamus Heaney Seamus Heaney is a poet born in Northern Ireland, County Derry, in 1939. His birth thus aligned with the beginnings of the second world war and he was exposed to conflict and sectarian violence, division between Catholics and Protestants, from a young age. Themes of nationalism, patriotism and British imperialism are often featured in his works. This is the case in Requiem for the Croppies, a poem published on the 50th anniversary of the Easter uprising of 1916 which alludes to the 1798 Vinegar Hill Rebellion for independence. Through structure, irony, the creation of a persona, rhythm, iambic pentameter, rhyme and intricate figurative language, this text invites us to experience the lives of the Irish rebels fighting for freedom and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the use of emotive language and diction to create a binary opposition, Heaney highlights his struggles and the themes of coming of age and growing up by constructing the persona as uncomfortable and awkward. This is done through the binary opposition of I was embarrassed by old men standing up to shake my hand and my mother held my hand in hers where the repetition of the diction of hand creates direct contrast. While in the first example Heaney is being treated like a man, in the latter he is shown as a boy, vulnerable and in need of support. The diction of embarrassed further implies how he is uncomfortable at the idea of being treated like a grown up. The poem is also narrated from a first person point of view, thus positioning the reader into Heaney s perspective to showcase the effects of the passing. It not only directly conveys Heaney s experiences, such as the way people treated him, but also his internal struggles and feelings. In this way, the poem invites us to experience the internal and external facets of his life. Mid term Break is composed of stanzas consisting of three lines each, the regularity of which is juxtaposed with the large amounts of caesura and broken iambic pentameter to make commentary on the sudden nature of death and the fragile human experience. The uniformity of the stanzas size mirrors the everyday, ordinary life which may seem boring and monotone. The poem s punctuation in terms of caesura breaks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
